I have a 2000 chrysler town and country limited all wheel drive mini van.i brought the van in for service on june 30th because the airbag light was staying on , also nothing was working on the steering wheel. The radio controls, the cruise control, the horn, and i presume the airbag. The dealer is charging me $500.00 to replace the clock spring in the steering wheel. This is a electronic control box that operates everything in the steering wheel.there should be a recall on this part.

I took my 2000 chrysler mini van to the conyer, ga dealership to find out why my airbag light came on and my horn stopped working and i was told by the service man that i would be charge $89.00 just for them to look at the problem. I just recently found out that this is a major problem with all mini vans dating back several years ago. I was almost hit by another vehicle because my horn in my van wasn't working. This is a safety issue and the manufacturer should issue a immediate recall before someone gets kill.

The consumer was involved in an accident. The vehicle was struck from the side as well as the front.the air bags did not deploy.

When driving through puddles, or large amounts of water on roads, the alternator belt falls off causing the loss of power steering, engine over heating, and the battery to die. Could be while turning or driving straight.

I purchased a 2000 chrysler town & country in july 2007 from a chrysler dealer in nj. Several weeks after purchasing the car it suddenly stalled out while in motion on the highway with no prior warning. While coasting i was able put the van in neutral and restart it. Over the course of the trip the van stalled several more times while in motion. After several weeks of sporadic stalling i called the dealer that sold us the car and explain the problem. They stated that the car was sold with no warranty and that there was nothing that they would do for the vehicle. The problem was so sporadic that it would go away for a few months and randomly returned. The car does not give any signs prior to stalling such a sputtering. The van even stalls while going through curves and turns leaving the driver to muscle the car safely to a stop before having to restart it. There have been several occasions where my wife had been driving around a curve and it stalled out and she almost went off the road because she barely had the muscle to control the steering wheel and brakes. I have taken it to a local dealer but they said that the problem hasn't thrown a code for them to diagnose and they were unsuccessful in getting the car to stall out for them during test drives. The dealer had recommendations for fixing the car which included replacing the alternator, wiring harness to the alternator, battery, ignition module, plugs & wires and various sensors, none of which has fixed the problem. I did a search online and found a discussion forum where it appears that the problem that i have is very common amongst owners. Some of these owners had spent much more money at their dealers until their mechanics eventually gave up. From the complaints that i've seen it appears that the stalling problems are occurring on town&country models ranging from 1997-2007 and is affecting both the 3.3ltr engine as well as the 3.8ltr engine. It seems that this problem is common enough among owners.

After several months of problems with my power seat memory system(my seats would switch to a setting that was not programmed by myself), i contacted my dealer and advised them of my situation. This unwanted adjustment could be replicated by pressing the unlock button on my fob. I began unlocking my van with my key. I advised my dealer again. This past june, while operating my van onto a freeway, the seat began to change positions and the mirrors readjusted. My children and a family friend observed this action as it occurred. I grabbed hold of the wheel and readjusted all of the above mentioned items while still maintaining control. This process has recurred on at least five occasions. Upon return from our vacation, i notified the dealer and made an appointment. After several hours at the dealership, they stated that my options were to disconnect the auto-setting or return the vehicle when a particular computer was returned to them. My visit cost me several hours and a bill of over $98.00. Currently i am able to manually adjust the seat and mirror.

This letter is regarding a manufacturer defect in the 2000 plymouth grand voyager and 2000 chrysler town and country vans. We own both vehicles, and both have experienced this problem. There is an issue with the vehicles in wet weather.when it rains and the driver goes through water, the vehicles shut themselves down completely. Lights turn off, power steering is arrested, and the driver has to coast to a stop. This has happened several times to my parents, and more than once, they have had to secure the services of a towing company to get the vehicle(s) home or to a repair shop. This has happened at night on two-lane highways, leaving them stranded in pitch-black darkness. These are the only vehicles that my parents have to drive to and from work, which is an hour and a half away from home. My father has visited the chrysler-dodge dealership several times, and they told him that this is a large-scale problem with these particular models of vans. They are well aware of the issue, but there has not been a full-scale recall on the vehicles. There is a kit to fix the problem. The kit is over $300, and the onus is on the consumer to purchase the kit and have it installed. My dad spent over $700 to have the kit installed on both vans. This manufacturer defect is dangerous not only to the drivers of the vehicles, but to other motorists. Please consider doing a national recall for this factory defect.thank you for your time and consideration.

Once after hitting water puddle and then while driving in rain, belt slips off pulleys and steering loses power.then battery dies quickly while flashers are on.very dangerous on the side of the road in rain!

Update to the problem related to the serpentine belt of a 2000 town and country.(odi number: 770436 12/4/02). A fifth (5th) occurence occured on jan 17, 2004 . Still without resolution other than tow the van and put back the serpentine belt.

All 4incidents happened on a rainy day (spring 1x (wife driving and turning from a stop light 5-10 mph), fall 2x in one day(30-40mph), last incident 12/4/02 (30-40mph)). When belt slips off, power steering disabled, power brake disabled, alternator disabled, cooling system disabled, engine overheats, stalls when battery runs out. The horn became inoperative at 3,ooo mile due to a defective horn assembly.please provide further information.

Air bag warning light began flashing in january 2012; cruise control & stereo controls on steering wheel quit working in june 2012; horn quit working in july 2012. Read about recall on 1994 - 2000 models for faulty clockspring.

The clock spring lost the connection to the electrical system.as a result, horn, air bags, and cruise control become inoperable.

Short in the horn switch causes the horn to sound erratically and without warning.the temporary solution is to pull the fuse, thereby overiding the safety device.the permanent solution is to have the switch replaced, which we are told also requires the driver's airbag to be replaced at a cost of over $800.00.

While starting up the vehicleair bag light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.this caused thehorn to becomeinoperative. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the clock spring needed to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2000 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph during rainy weather, the steering wheel seized without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where they advised that the serpentine belt had become detached. The vehicle was repaired by replacing the serpentine belt on the correct track. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 148,000. The current mileage was approximately 149,000. The vin was unavailable.

Stalls when driving, will not start, stalls while warming up.

Engine suddenly stalls while van in motion. Losing power steering and power braking. Once van coasts to a stop, restart with no issues. Normally occurs after van sits overnight and engine isn't warmed up as yet.

The contact owns a 2000 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the serpentine belt separated from the alternator causing the alternator to fail. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test and advised that the vehicle did not have a protective splash guard and caused water to penetrate, separating the serpentine belt from the alternator.the battery was replaced but the failure was not corrected and the serpentine belt continued to fail. The manufacturer advised that the failure was not recalled. The failure mileage was 149,000, and the current mileage was 196,000.

Vehicle leaf spring has weakened causing the rear of vehicle to sit at an angle.problems with front wheels and brakes. *mr the dealer was unable to repair the re-occurring problem with the front brakes, and the rotors.the front wheels and or brakes were squeaking again, which meant that new front brakes were needed again.(this was the fourth time the brakes were replaced)the consumer requested a full refund of the purchase price of the vehicle.other problems are as followed:the left rear shock had blown and a bolt had broken on the right shock and were replaced, the brake light would come on when going around corners, the rear view mirror was loose along with the right side mirror(both readjusted), noise in the steering and was hard to steer at times, there was a metal sound in the front strut especially when the temperature was cold, and there was overheating so the all the parts of the cooling system were replaced. *scc

The serpentine belt on my 2000 chrysler town and country slips off when i drive through puddles resulting in loss of power steering, cooling and electrical.this event strands us where ever we happen to be.

The contact owns a 2000 chrysler town & country. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, he drove over a pothole and the serpentine belt slipped off of the engine. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have the belt changed, but that did not remedy the failure. The contact stated that the belt had fallen off four times. The failure mileage was 107,000.

Driving through small puddle of water (drainage from waterhose run off not storm type drainage). Serpentine belt comes off rendering the vehicle unusable. Happens in all weather conditions. I have replaced the water pump, the tensioner, the idler pulley. I've had the alignment of the pulleys checked, all have had no effect on the serpentine belt. It still comes off going through any form of moisture. This has been ongoing now for over a year, i have gone through 4 different belts trying to see what could work. The first time it happen was early in the morning (approx. 3am) while my wife was on her way to work, with the sudden loss of power steering she ran into a curb. The only damage was to the vehicle front bumper and bottom valance.

Update to the problem related to the serpentine belt of a 2000 town and country.(odi number: 770436 12/4/02). A fifth (5th) occurence occured on jan 17, 2004 . Still without resolution other than tow the van and put back the serpentine belt.

We were driving in the rain on the interstate when all of sudden lights come on..my husband says that the power steering has gone and the engine lights come on and the engine starts to overheat.it was terrifying.we find as we are pulled to the side of the road that the serpentine belt has come off.it was a brand new belt.i had it replaced prior to going on this trip.my husband and son get it back on and it comes off again.i had the vehicle towed.the overheating did some damage.had to replace radiator and hoses.then driving down broad street a week later, the hose comes off again.i don't feel safe in this vehicle.tensioner has been replaced along with other damaged parts.

Several incidents of serpentine belt disengaged (slipped off pulleys) caused loss of steering and overheated engine. First time happened in car wash and three times driving through rain puddles.

While my wife was pulling into a driveway she drove thru a small puddle and the water splashed up on the idler pulley and caused the belt to slip. This in turn caused the vehicle to lose power steering. She ended up in the yard instead of the driveway. I have been in quality since 1985 and i am currently a quality manager so i am really surprised with chryslers' lack of concern with this design problem. I am really disappointed with chrysler and the nhtsa for not doing something about this issue. Maybe it is time to let some of the national investigative tv shows know about the problem.

My 2000 chrysler town and country serpentine belt keeps slipping off after driving through puddles. This problem has been "repaired" 4 times already and is still slipping off. This is a potentially hazardous problem as it is not always immediately known that the belt has slipped off which cause driver to lose power steering (among other things). Being unable to steer while driving is an absolute danger especially depending on the speed of the car!

All failures occurred within 2 hours. No safety defect mentioned.

My 2000 chrysler town and country van, has a problem with the serpentine belt coming off while it is raining. This is a very difficult and dangerous problem because it cause the power steering to go out and the most inopportune times.i really wish someone would be ethical enough from chrysler or nhtsa to do a recall before someone get killed.

While raining and on vacation we drove through a puddle. Almost immediately the radiator light came on, the temperature gauge read, "hot," we lost power steering, and then the alternator light came on.we had the vehicle towed only to learn that the serpentine belt slipped off and was dragging on the ground.

The fan beltslipped offthe van while driving down the road at 25 mph.. Power steering was lost.this was the second occurrence.*tc

The front driver side top strut is coming through the chassis.thepower steering failed when making a right turn.the driver side gets wet and the driver shoulderharness is getting wet, and molding, and theanchorage is rusting. .

On 2 separate occasions the serpentine belt came off the pulley while driving.when this occurred the vehicle lost engine coolant, power brakes and steering, almost resulting in an accident.the dealership could not indicate why the serpentine belt came off. They just replaced it.the first incident occurred duringlight rain.the second incident revealed a drain form a priorrepair to an evaporator had fallen off and allowed water to drip directly onto the serpentine belt, which supposedly allowed the belt to jump off of the pulleys.*sc

At least 6 times since owning a 2000 chrysler town and country, the serpentine belt has come off either in the rain or snow. Once causing property damage as i pulled off the road when the car overheated.it also caused the head gasket to fail.gates has a correction kit for this. Chrysler should supply them on a one time basis t every owner. Failure of this design causes occupants to be put at risk in the most inclement weather conditions when you need the car to perform it's best.additional there is loss of power steering, power brakes, and alternator.

Complaint involves a 2000 chrysler town & country ltd awd minvan 3.8l engine.during its annual safety inspection, my mechanic discovered the flywheel was cracked.i had brought the vehicle in to a) have it inspected b) check a metallic noise the engine had when the a/c was on.vehicle passed the safety inspection, however he informed me the flywheel was cracked and should not be driven until fixed.it was my understanding that if it failed completely it could cause an explosion with the transmission case being blown apart - not a good thing when this vehicle is used primarily by my wife with our children as the main cargo.i had the vehicle repaired which cost approxiamately $560.

During rain or snowmelt events, splashing water causes the serpentine belt on the engine slip from the engine idler pulleys.they are smooth and rounded in design, allowing water to slip beneath during operation resulting in the belt slipping from the pulleys.the steering on these vans is extremely inadequate without power assist, even while the vehicle is moving.our belt has slipped off in the past, requiring belt replacement, but this recent event caused a loss of steering while the vehicle was in motion, resulting in a crash.no one in my family was seriously injured, but the valence at the front of the vehicle was damaged. After calling my local dmv to find out where to report this, and searching the internet about the problem, i find it unconscionable that chrysler and the nhtsa have not acted on a solution sooner.

The engine "revved" directly ahead of me was a telephone pole, had my foot on the brakes at that time it could not hold to stop the car.

On three separate occasions consumer expienced loss of power while traveling at 60 to 65 mph.

The serpentine belt on my 2000 chrysler town & country van pops off causing loss of power steering, alternator and water pump. Very dangerous to have to safely drive to a stop without power steering. Belt has been replaced. Tensioner has been replaced. Pulleys have been replaced. Dealers and private shops have no clue what is wrong, but owners do- the tensioner gets out of alignment! goodyear and gates have begun to market kits to fix the problem, but the manufacturer should do a recall. Just "google" to see how many owners are affected. This is a serious safety issue! the incident date i list is the last of 4 incidents in the past 2 years.

- the contact stated that the v2000 chrysler town & countryhad a number of problems with the serpentine belt popping off while driving.the contact stated that this had happened on four occasion. There was heavy rain and while driving 30-35 mph under heavy traffic, the battery light came on and the vehicle was difficult to steer.he was able to pull off the road into a parking area.the contact opened the hoodand noticed that the serpentine beltcame off again.the contact called aaa to have the vehicle towed to the dealership, and they also informed him that the serpentine belt had come off.the contact stated that the vehicle is still at the dealership.the contact will have the belt available for investigation. The contact will be calling the manufacturer of chrysler to file a complaint.the contact felt that if this continued to happen, one day the serpentine belt will pop off and he will lose control of the steering and something drastic could happen.this vehicle had 62,500 miles, and was not sure how many miles were on the vehicle when the serpentine belt popped off the first time.the contact will have all repair orders available for this investigation.the consumer states the belt was okay per dealer and reinstalled. The consumer has provided invoices of repair.updated 05/04/07.

Whenever serpentine beltgets wet under any condition, rain or running over a puddle,it tends to slips off of the pulleys, making vehicle inoperable.

My serpentine belt has come off 4 times. I have informed the dealer of this problem during warranty time period and nonwarrantly time period. The dealer and other mechanics keep charging me to temporarily fix a manufacturer"recall" problem. My wife drives the van, normally with children with her. This is very dangerous and needs to be corrected immediately. This is a very common problem for this type of vehicle.

While driving 65 mph vehicle lost power steering and power brakes. Dealer determined that serpentine belt had broken. Mileage was 10000.

2000 chrysler town and country lxi**nar**ccthe consumer stated for the past several years the serpentine belt that operates the power steering, engine cooling, and alternator has periodically jump from the pulleys during heavy rains on well drained streets.

Mounting bolt for serpentine belt idler broke, complete loss of power steering -no accident due to low speed-would have been disaster at higher speed.

While driving 15 mph the fan belt slips off only when raining. As a result, vehicle overheats very quickly ,steering and brakes malfunction. Still waiting on a part, dealing with dealer.

The consumer stated that whenever it rained or the belt became wet in any way it slipped off the pulley.when this happened the consumer lost control ofvehicle.this incident has happen twice since owning the vehicle.

While driving ina rain storm, the consumer drove in a water puddle and the serpentine belt became disengaged. When this happened the dash light illuminated,. The battery light came on and the lights started to go dim. The vehicle became difficult to drive. It also, over heated.

Every time the vehicle ran on wet road the serpentine belt came off the pulley. This caused the vehicle to stall and lose power steering control.vehicle had not been taken to the dealer.dealer was contacted, they were familiar with the problem and had asuggestion for correction.consumer wants to know why would the dealer be so familiar with the problem if it wasn't a regularly occurringproblem.

Serpentine belt falls off when driven through a puddle of water.the chrysler dealership i contacted informed me that this was typical with my make and model (2000 chrysler town and country).when the belt falls off, the van loses power steering and is very difficult to control.

Serpentine belt slipping off for the 6th time during a rainy day. Control for steering, power brakes and power to battery lost. Previously reported: odi number: 770436 12/4/02; 100544831/20/2004. Issue has not been resolved.

It is a well known problem with chrysler minivans - whenever there is a heavy rain and the water puddles in the street, the serpentine belt slips off and all power to the vehicle is lost. This has happened to me multiple times. I have spoken to my local mechanic about this problem and he stated that this happens to all chrysler minivans (dodge and pontiac minivans as well) and has occurred since they started making minivans. Every time there is a heavy downpour he has a lot full of chrsler vans that need their belt put back on. I called my local chrysler dealer in urbana, il and spoke to the service representative. She told me that they are fully aware of the problem because two of their own service vans are out of commission due to the recent rain. She agreed that every time it rains heavily, the belts come off these vans. I called chrysler automotive and spoke to a customer service rep. About the problem. She checked and told me that chrysler will not do anything about this because it is a known problem and because the national highway traffic safety administration has not issued a recall. Since chrysler will not address this known problem until nhtsa issues a recall, please issue a recall. What could be more dangerous than for people to lose power while driving on crowded roadways and interstate?

- the contact stated that the 2000 chrysler town & countryhad a number of problems with the serpentine belt popping off while driving. This happened on four occasions during heavy rain and while driving 30-35 mph under heavy traffic, the battery light came on, and the vehicle was difficult to steer.he was able to pull off the road into a parking area.the contactopened the hood of the vehicle and noticed that the serpentine belt had come off again.the contact called aaa to have the vehicle towed to the dealership, and they also informed him that the serpentine belt came off.the contact stated that the vehiclewas still at the dealership.the contact will have the belt available for investigation. The contact will be calling the manufacturer of chrysler to file a complaint.the contact felt that if this continued to happen one day the serpentine belt will pop off and he will lose control of the steering and something drastic could happen.the contact stated that this vehicle had 62,500 miles and was not sure how many miles were on the vehicle when the serpentine belt popped off the first time.the contact will have all repair orders available for this investigation.

Chrysler town & country with 3.3 liter engine. The idler pulley freezes on this engine (since 1992 dodge dynasty same motor, same problem) causing the serpentine belt to come off causing a lost of power steering among other equipment failures powered drive belt. (i.e. Water pump, alternater, ect).

Dt*: the contact stated after a long trip the driver had a headache.upon inspecting under the hood, the contact noticed the pipe that ran from the cylinder head to the exhaust was leaking.the dealership confirmed the pipe was leaking and needed to be replaced.

Vehicle making loud whistling noise, two dealers unable to locate sound.while transmission was out for another repair, discovered the exhaust crossover pipe is cracked.this is a $550.00 dealer item only part.dealer states common problem, part is often replaced.i have to pay $550.00 plus labor to replace this part.

The exhaustpipe was defective, anddealer was unable to obtain the part. Manufacturer stated it will be in aroundthe end of december.

The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 10e034000 (equipment) but was advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was not available.

Consumer states that the vehicle is leaking fuel in cab of car.consumer can smell fuems, and feels unsafe. Dealer also discovered that the air condition evaporator needs replacing.please provide any further information.mr

While drivingat 65 mph and with no warning, theautomatic transmission failed.the dealer stated that the vehicle was only covered up to 36000 miles.the vehicle lurched forward, screeched and the transmission had gone out.also, the front seat adjustment motor stopped working in the up and down position. *sccthe driver and passenger window motors, ac compressor, and the automatic tailgate close latch all had to be replaced.

Not knowing how fast your driving can be dangerous.i've been having this problem with my van starting way back in september 2001 with 13,000 miles on it and am still having the same problem. The problem is the abs light comes on all the time, dashboard lights flicker, the speedometer, odometer and rpm's randomly go up and down and sometimes don't work at all.they have tried to fix this problem many times, it has been in the shop sometimes for 2 weeks at a time.they have replaced the computer, harness (twice), ignition switch, fuses, etc.they just had it last week and today i still have the same problem.basically it is an electrical problem.by the way, i have been taking it to a chrysler shop in nanuet, ny.i called the chrysler customer service 800 number and they said basically all that they could do is to try to help the service center get the right information to help them fix it.but again, they just had the car last week after i called and the problem is still here.i have had to rent cars and borrow cars to use while it has been in the shop.i really hasn't cost me all that much money because they are fixing it (trying to fix it) under warranty.i've only had rental car expenses.the big inconvenience is getting the car to the shop, etc...it has been very frustrating to say the least.

Sudden loss of transmission fluid resulted in engine light warning. Internet searches on this vehicle provided similar complaints on this 2000 town & country van.it has 56,000 miles.also reported leak of brake fluid and dealer suggested replacement of faulty brake fluid drums (potential safety issue).informed chrysler regarding this matter but they refused warranty coverage, resulting in expensive repair work over $600 for transmission fluid and brake pad repair work.also, driver's side automatic window motor stopped functioning and replacement was necessary $325.dealer reported frequent problems with motor.dealer informed 9 out of 10 times issue related to replacement of motor so glass can function correctly.required to function to pass de safety inspection.when attempted to change flat tire, the hydraulic gauge did not hold the weight of the vehicle and buckled.faulty and dangerous hydraulic tire replacement equipment and can cause very serious injury.

(1) raised vehicle up off the ground with new jack; (2) while person under car, jack colapsed and almost crushed person;(3) reported problem to chrysler, and they stated too bad, couldn't do anything.

- the contact has a 2000 chrysler town and country andstated that the plastic headlight cover turned gray and cloudy.this interfered with the amount of illumination it displayed.the dealership stated that they have had numerous complaints regarding the same problem, but unfortunately theycould notcover the repair cost until the manufacturer set up a recall. Updated 1/26/2007 -

There is no independent adjustment foraero lights/ halogen lamps. When high beam is activated, they all come on, and should be pointed slightly below the horizon.

The headlights on our 2000 chrysler town & country awd van have faded to an unsafe dim level of light.we took the vehicle to the dealer and were told it wasn't under warranty. They wanted over $1000 to put all new headlight assemblies.we tried new bulbs on our own, but it didn't fix the problem.this vehicle is an expensive, top-of-the-line model and much too new to have something as important as headlights fail.we still feel they have dimmed and are not safe.this is the first complaint we have made. My 2000 chrysler town and country van which i purchased new from a braun mobility dealer in oklahoma has smelled like gas for a long time.i especially noticed it after i filled up the tank. Ithought that it was from being over filled.the smell continued to get worse so i finally investigated further with my dealer. I was told that the braun mobility corporation had to remove the original chrysler fuel tank and install a braun fuel tank for the mobility portion of the van to work. The van has a ramp that allows a wheelchair access.the dealer informed me that they have had 9 braun fuel tanks leak due to a warp in the plastic braun tank.my van has never been wrecked, it has always been stored in a garage, it is in almost new condition and is all original. I have never heard of a gas tank not outlasting a car. My intentions are to keep this van for as long as it is practical.the braun conversion is very expensive but is worth almost nothing on the used market.i consider this issue to be worth of a recall . I also consider thisissue to be a major life safety concern that needs to be investigated immediately before somebody dies. The mechanic at the dealer told me not to drive the car under any circumstances until the new tank is installed.the new tank was installed and i noticed it is a totally new and improved design that supposedly doesn't warp.i have written braun through the braun dealer but have given up on getting a response.i understand replacing parts that have normal wear.transmissions go out, brakes wear out, air filters need changed, engines lose compression over time, spark plugs need replaced, but a gas tank? i've never heard of a gas tank warping and leaking fuel.am i crazy?

Manufacturer has issued a recall for these minivans (#895) but will not pay for inspection and repair parts are not available to dealer.a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could injure or kill passengers.shame on chrysler!

Clockspring has failed leaving me without a horn and operational air bag. In addition the fuel pump is also not functioning properly. Could this be related to the fuel injection system recall?

The contact owns a 2000 chrysler town & country. The contact stated that there was a fuel leak. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number 00v268000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was approximately 192,000.

Exterior handle on rear sliding doos break easily.my daughter in law puled one side to oen and it broe off.my 5 year old grandson puled on the handle on the other side later and it to proke of.the cost of the new handle is 166.00.i appears the the quality of material is of a poor quailty and the price for a new one is outrageous.

While traveling doors opened on their own.

Van side power sliding door depressed, closing button and sliding door closed, smashing consumer's fingers.

About a week after we picked up the new vehicle the entire rear liftgate handle assembly fell apart inside the door. Consequently it wouldn't open and had to be taken back to the dealership. Chrisler repaired the rear entry mechanism but then the dealership, in its hasty repair, stripped out all of the screws that hold the rear liftgate molding in place so they all fell out. Fearing more damage would be caused by the dealership in another repair i replaced the screws with larger sheet metal screws which look dumb.

Tranmission cooler line leaks it was repaired by stevens of milford in february of 2001 2 months after i purchased vechicle.the second time was november of 2002 the dealer (scap motors) said it was not covered and charged me $91.20.i called chrysler customer service and they reimbursed me.the third time was january 2003 same problem (which has now damaged my new driveway) scap motors said that the lines become loose due to weather and driving conditions they repaired it again.i know of at least 5 other owners of chrysler grand voyagers (town and country) and dodge grand caravans that have had the same problem with their vechicles.i hope that you can look into this matter and get chrysler to repair it so that it does not happen again.to tell me that weather and road conditions are causing this problem is crazy i own 3 other cars and it does not affect the tranmission lines on those.either chrysler used (uses) defective or poor quality hoses or it is a manufactures defect.i was told that there is a technical bulletin that was sent to the dealers on this problem so i know they are aware of the problem but they are not fixing it only repairing temporairly.

The contact owns a 2000 chrysler town and country. The contact stated that the vehicle was shut off when a child was able to move the gear shifter into drive without depressing the brake pedal, while the contact was standing in the exterior of the vehicle . The vehicle began to roll away. The contact was able to enter the vehicle while it was in motion and placed the vehicle into park. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 152,000.

Serpentine belt comes off every time that is raining hard.i took it to the mechanic and he change the tensioner and the belt without improvement.when this comes off the vehicle dies which will cause an accident because i have no control over it.so far me and my wife are been lucky.

This 2000 town & country has had numerous problems with its drive train/drive selector. The recent has been the following case that has occured twice in the last month with no reaction from chrysler daimler due to local dealer not being knowledgeable of processes to register occurance.the vehicle, when parked, with engine turned off, and keys out of the ignition, comes out of gear and rolls out of the driveway by itself, with no one in the vehicle.has spoken with chryser-daimler and they are sending an independent engineer to investigate within 72 hours.

The awd drive component of our vehicle is causing problems, and i am concerned that there may be a safety aspect.there is squealing noise at low speed, a roar at high speed and poor gas milage for this type of vehicle.it feels as if something is bound up in the transmission and i am concerned that something could break loose and enter the passenger compartment.the dealership agrees that there is a problem with the vehicle, but chrysler refuses to acknowledge the problem and asserts that it is a characteristic of the vehicle.

(1)i own a 2000 chrysler town & country (with less than 70,000 miles) which i purchased only five months ago.while on vacation far from home, the transmission started whining loudly and shifting roughly.(2)i had the vehicle checked by two different mechanics who both informed me that the transmission was failing.(3)the transmission had to be replaced completely at a cost to me of approximately $2800.

All failures occurred within 2 hours. No safety defect mentioned.

I have a 2000 chrysler town & country minivan.i was under the impression that all vehicles must be made so that a car can not be put in gear without pressing on the brake.currently, if my vehicle is in park i can just pull down on the gear shift and it will go into gear, without pressing on the brake pedal.i was surprised as our 1996 jeep had been recalled so they could fix this problem.i am concerned because my 3 yr old son put my car into neutral and it started rolling forward and was stopped by a parked car.we only moved 2 ft in a parking lot, but it could have been worse had we been on a hill or something.

At 70 mph on overtaking the transmission shifted into neutral......this happened again one week later.

Intermittently while pulling out gear shift will move by itself into neutral or in reverse. Consumer has taken vehicle to dealer 3 times, and performed diagnostic test, but no codes were found. Vehicle checks out normal ,could not duplicate defect. Consumer states while vehicle is on and after shifting from park to drive, the vehicle will move into neutral or reverse on its own, this usually happens after driving approximately 1000-2000 miles, on one occasion while pulling out of a parking space, consumer put vehicle in drive and vehicle began to move backwards instead of forwards, dealer will be installing a co-pilot to help determine the cause of the problem.

2000 chrysler town and country with 54,000 the differential pin went through the transmission case.fortunately, i was only going 5 mph and only had another 50 feet to drive.i mainly drive highway with my toddler and i am fearful of what could have happened had we been on the highway during our normal commute.my husband was a mechanic for 19 plus years and was able to quickly determine the problem.it is my understanding from experienced mechanics and chrysler certified mechanics that this is a common issue with the vehicle and it a defect in manufacturing the transmission.this is not normal wear and tear.i contacted chrysler on july 9th, 2003 to report the problem and see if they would cover the cost of replacing the transmission.i spoke with eric who refused to provide me his last name nor would he transfer my call to anyone else.he said he is the final deicision maker and that his manager's role is to manage people and no deal with customers.he also told me if was my fault for buying a used vehicle.it is not my fault the transmission malfunctioned.he also told me that i could get it installed for free since my husband was a mechanic.eric hung up on me because i was continuously asking to speak to a manager.i did not get any resolution or assistance from chrysler.i am in need of my vehicle being replaced but most importantly, i am concerned about the safety of other drivers if their tranmission also malfunctions at high speeds on the highway.any suggestions on how i can proceed with chrysler to have the transmission replaced?

This 2000 town & country has had numerous problems with its drive train/drive selector. The recent has been the following case that has occured twice in the last month with no reaction from chrysler daimler due to local dealer not being knowledgeable of processes to register occurance.the vehicle, when parked, with engine turned off, and keys out of the ignition, comes out of gear and rolls out of the driveway by itself, with no one in the vehicle.has spoken with chryser-daimler and they are sending an independent engineer to investigate within 72 hours.

This vehicle has flawed seatbelts. It unhooked during the crash and flew in the air, landed in the squarepants family yard then came back up and landed on a 1995 plymouth magic wagon that rolled away at principal brown's house.

We have had numerous occasions of the seat belts coming unlatched for no apparent reason, or seeming to be latched correctly and then finding out miles later that it pops out and maybe wasn't latched correctly in the first place. I have 4 children, ranging in age 2-11, and we have had this problem with all of the seats. I have also read online while investigating this issue, that this is not an isolated incident and that death has occurred due to this problem. Why has there not been a recall of these seat belts when they are clearly defective? i am requesting that you, daimler chrysler, replace all of the seat belts in the chrysler town and country owned by us, listed above, free of charge, to show your good will in this situation. It would be disastrous for this issue of the seat belt unlatching itself in a wreck to happen again and leave us with an injured or dead child or adult. I am confident that you will stand up and be responsible and fix this issue.119134 miles2000 town & country lxi.

The contact owns a 2000 chrysler town and country.whenever the contact depresses the brake pedal, her child's seat belt unbuckles.she took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the failure occurred because her child did not weigh enough.they further stated that after 50 mph, the seat belt would lock automatically.if she travels below 40 mph, the seat belts would unlock due to the weight of the child.the contact was advised to install a tether strap, but she already had one in the vehicle.the current and failure mileages were 85,000.

Drivers seat belt will not release, the push button is very hard to press. Passenger is not properly restrained.

Child hit seat belt and it came unlatched by itself. These were the gen-3 seatbelts.dealer contacted.

When the driver made a sudden stop the seat belt, which secured the child seat positioned behind the driver's seat, became unlatched and as a result the seat hit the back of the driver's seat.the child was not injured. The consumer had the buckles checked at two different dealership and both times the consumer was told that the buckles were fine.the front brake pads and rotors were replaced.the driver's side tail light cover fell off.the sliding door handle came off.

I just read about the seatbelt concerns, and i would like to help get the belts recalled.i have two children and have not had an incident and would like to prevent one also.

While driving and coming to a sudden stop rear driver's side seat, which could be unlatched and taken out but in this case was latched, moved forward, hitting front driver's seat. Usually their child would be sitting in that seat. This might have caused injuries. Dealer said there was no problem with seat latch system.

2000 chrysler town& country (limited) owed for 2 years 11 months, 57300 miles -i went to my vehicle to run an errand.while sitting in my driveway, i turned on the seat heater to warm it up due to the severe cold.the seat began to smoke and burned through the leather seat.i immediately turned off the seat heater and saw glowing embers around the hole that was created from a high heat source.i turned seat heater back on to confirm the source of the glowing embers.sparks began to shot out of hole in burnt leather seat.my thoughts are that something in the heater caused the smoke and glowing embers.although, this car has high mileage, the leather seats are in excellent condition.i would expect that the seat heater would be reasonably durable.this car has the chrysler basic warranty, but the issue of safety/hazard cannot be denied.if this had been the passengers seat with a child, instead of an adult, the outcome may have been completely different.also, if i had been driving in heavy traffic on the interstate (my route to work is va interstate 66 and is usually very heavily traveled) i might not have been able to get to the side of the road safely.note, during this event, no fuses burned out to my knowledge.

While drivingand turning on the seat warmer within fifteen seconds consumer's skinburned. It didn't matter if it was on high or low. Consumer was concerned with electrical problems or a possible fire.

The consumer notice an unusual smell inside the vehicle. Upon further inspection the consumer noticed that the seat warmer was on and a jacket was in the seat.when the consumer removed the jacket from seat she saw burn holes in the seat and jacket.

I have a year 2000 chrysler town & country vanthe seat heater set fire to the leather on the seat. The dealer would not fix the seat due to the van being under extended warranty not the factory warranty.from the information on the net chrysler knew about this problem in 1999 and it looks like they didn't bother to fix it in the vans built for the year 2000. Having to put out a fire while driving is not something i bargained for when i bought the van.what would have happened if no one saw the fire and left the van next to the house?*la

Oem seat heater caused fire and burned hole in the leather.can't seem to get chrysler interested in this potentially serious issue.dt

While driving my car with the seat heater on, it suddenly got very hot, so i turned the heater off. When i got to my destination i saw a hole about the size of a pencil eraser had burned through the leather. I later realized that there was a hole in my pants and the back of my leg was burnt. When i contacted chrysler, i was told that i would have to pay for all repairs since my 3 year warranty was up. By the way, the heater no longer functions, although the light on the switch still activates when depressed, meaning any fuse in the system never blew.

Driver's side seat warmer overheated and burnt through the seat's leather anddriver's clothing.this resulted in the driver's back being burnt.

On september 30, 2003,while my wife was driving around town on errands with our four children, she noticed smoke coming from the front passenger seat.ultimately, a hole burned through the leather seat as a result of a malfunction/failure in the heated seat system. Luckily, my wife had the presence of mind to shut off the seat and get everyone out of the car in time to avoid a full blown fire.however, this situation was extremely dangerous and a tragedy was averted only by her quick reaction.a seat heating system that does not have a mechanism to shut itself off before it gets this hot is unreasonably dangerous and should be recalled immediately at the manufacturer's expense.*la

While using the heated driver's seat, some spots became very hot.then, the heater did not work anymore.

We own a 2000 chrysler town and country limited minivan.the middle row of seats are removable.from time to time, we remove and reinstall the seats per the directions in the manual.after each time we reinstall the seat, we ensure that the seat is secure by making sure it can't disengage.despite this, the middle seats periodically disengages spontaneously, pops out, and tips forward or backward with our child in it. When this happens, we stop the car, pull over, and put the kid in a different seat.then we reinstall the seat when we are at safer spot.we test again to make sure the installation is secure and continue driving.then, a few weeks or months later, the seat pops out again.the most recent such incident is dated below.

I was driving in traffic and tried to stop applied brakes and the pedal went down to the floor. I had to veer to the right to prevent hitting car in front of me. This happened with my daughter driving several times before and she did not tell us. We put new brakes on the car and still have the problem.

On march 10, 2010 my husband was driving our 2000 chrysler town & country home when he applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor! luckily he was on our street near our home therefore he wasn't going very fast. There was brake fluid coming from under the van & the brake fluid reservoir was empty! thank godhe didn't have an accident and no one was hurt! this ,however did happen approx. 5 years ago with this van and he was in an accident and we did report this to daimlerchrysler.com. Now i do think this year & model car should be looked at. My husband, in both cases, never had a brake light go on or any sign of anything to think the brake line was in need of attention. He is very strict on maintenance with our vehicles. The 1st time, when the brakes were applied, the seals in the rear brake blew out which caused the loss of the fluid hence no brakes. We now have had the van towed and will it be looked at tomorrow 3/11.

Vehicle vibrated when the brake was applied, dealer replaced the rotors and changed tire pressure, but the problem was still there.

Brakes failed to stop vehicle. Pedal goes to floor. After investigating, found both brake lines ruptured under drivers side door area due to corrosion.

Driving chrysler town and country (2000) awd in heavy traffic. Metal / braided brake line from abs control module to proportioning valve on my 2000 chrysler town and country ruptured after slight movement to separate line from rubbing on each other.

On friday afternoon may 30 my brakes suddenly failed as i was leaving one stop light intersection and stopping for another. Luckily i was only traveling at about 10 mph and by pumping brakes, gearing down and steering, i was able to avoid an accident. On inspecting my vehicle, under the driver?s side i found a leak in the brake line where the braided gas line joins with the steel gas line. There are 2 braided lines with connections at both ends to 2 steel lines. All 4 connections show extensive corrosion at the joint. The problem appears to be caused by galvanic action between 2 dissimilar metals at the joint. I contacted the dealer neuwirth motors in wilmington nc and will have the car towed in on monday.as of this point i do not have a problem with the dealer or chrysler concerning the repair. My concern is, if i had been traveling at a regular highway speed and had to stop my family and i could have been seriously injured or killed. There was no previous warning or indication that there was a problem. If the same lines i observed under my car is standard, and i believe it is, then chrysler has a death trap traveling the highway waiting to kill or injure thousands of other town and country owners. I have attached the 4 pictures that i took from underneath the vehicle (2000 chrysler town and country). The line that actually went out is the bottom line shown in picture 2 and 3. Luckily i had just left a stop light at one intersection and stopping for another light about 10 car lengths up. My speed was about 10 mph so i was able to stop and miss the car ahead by using my emergency brake, gears and steering. Basically i went from fully working brakes to no brakes at all.i had an extended warranty so it was fixed and all i paid was the $100 deductible. I called the service center and spoke with a female representative.i asked if they would investigate my complained. She said noonly if there was an accident would they investigate.

Update to the problem related to the serpentine belt of a 2000 town and country.(odi number: 770436 12/4/02). A fifth (5th) occurence occured on jan 17, 2004 . Still without resolution other than tow the van and put back the serpentine belt.

First failure was on a road at 20 mph in a school zone on a rainy day. Applied pressure to the brakes and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor without the car stopping.car advanced 3-5 feet before i realized my foot was on the brake pedal and they were not working.i applied pressure to the brakes again and the car came to a complete stop.brakes appeared to work at the next couple of stops.pulled into parking space and parked car.brakes appeared to be working fine.pulled out of parking space.brakes appeared to be working while backing out.proceeded to intersection at about 5 mph.applied pressure to brakes and they did not work.my vehicle proceeded into intersection hitting a car. My airbags deployed.my foot was on the brake pedal the whole time.it happened all to fast for me to have realized that my vehicles brakes failed me again and to apply pressure to them again.my car was totaled.i do not know what happened to the other person's car. I called chrysler and they retrieved the car in less than 24hrs.(they originally told me 2-3 weeks!)chrysler inspected my car and sent me a generic form letter relieving them of responsibilty from this accident.the letter stated, "per inspection, the information at hand would not permit us to associate this accident with a manufacturing or assembly error."they never mentioned what they checked or how they inspected the vehicle.no where in the letter was abs brakes mentioned.

September of 2000 my wife and i purchased a 2000 chrysler town & country van.we have had fairly good service until now.at about 12,000 miles we noticed when you were on the highway and would start to exit and put on the brakes it would vibrate a little, we should have had it looked at then but did not.we now have 20,000 miles and it is (2) years old, and the braking began to get worse so we took it to the place we purchase from for repair.they looked at it and then called me and told me what was wrong, the brake pads were bad and the rotors we bad and would have to be turned and this would cost$149.00.i just could not believe what the man was telling me that this was not in the warranty of the vehicle. He called it a ware and tare item. We purchase a new car about every (2) years and i have never had a vehicle that needed brakes at 20,000 miles. I asked if this could be a defect in parts and he told me it is the way we drive????? (that got me hot when he told me it was the way we drive). Well i've had a lot of new cars and i have never had the brakes replaced at 20,000 miles. The car being(2) years old and only 20,000 miles tells me that we do not drive it that much. I did get with the management and he told me he would be in touch with me (i'll bet).i was told by several people when i purchase this van that i would be sorry, first of all buy buying a chrysler and second the dealer i purchased it from. I just wrote it off. Guess i should have listen to them now.i know there has to be someone else thats had the same problem with brakes on their van and i just feel that this is a manufactures defect. If the car was say a year old and had 30,000 miles i could understand, but being (2) years old and only 20,000 miles i just can not. Also the personal service was not good at all, i think chrysler needs to check on this (5)??? star dealer, i would not give them (1)star. I had to pay for the service to be able to get my van and i was not happy camper.

Brakes have been squealing since brand new/ had rotor and pads replaced and brakes still squeal.

As i backed out of my downward sloping driveway the brake pedal went to the floor and it was necessary to apply emergency brake to prevent entry into the street. Visual inspection of the rear brake lines revealed rust/corrosion on both sides of the flexible stainless steel segments which are located about 1 foot to the rear of the abs module. One of these sections had ruptured causing the loss of braking. I have removed the line from the abs module and cut it about a foot from the rupture. I have pre-removal pictures of these areas and the affected parts are available. Repairs will be made to both the ruptured line and to the other rear brake line as it looks thatone will fail shortly if used.

On saturday, march 3, 2007, i experienced a sudden loss of my brakes upon stopping at a stop sign at a four-way controlled intersection. A pick-up truck on my right side had the right-of-way and had begun to proceed through when my 2000 town & country lxi brakes failed and went through the stop sign. Fortunately, the other driver was able to stop without incident. I had my minivan towed to our mechanic who found the brake lines were both severely corroded/rusted, one totally through the metal, the other nearly so. Both were replaced at a cost of over 600.00. The corrosion problem is electrolysis, the result of the joining of two different metals in the construction of the brake lines. This design flaw resulted in a potentially deadly loss of the brakes. My mechanic can communicate his findings if needed to your personnel. The fact that the parts service he uses stocks this item is telling in that there is an apparent need for the replacement of the lines on a regular enough basis to stock the parts. I have contacted daimler chrysler with this information.i hope something can be done to instigate a recall on this problem as i am concerned about the potential loss of life that could result. 24 hours before this brake failure, i was driving the freeway from milwaukee to oshkosh, wisconsin and back with my 17-year-old for an appointment at the university of wisconsin oshkosh for his admission to the music business program in the fall of 2007 semester. We were in blowing snow on a completely snow-covered highway the entire distance. It is truly a miracle that no harm came to anyone. We lost our two oldest sons, as teenagers, in a deadly car crash and would not wish this tragedy on anyone. This was an extremely close call for our family and i hope that no deaths have to occur before this issue is addressed. This design flaw is one that others have experienced as well and deserves close scrutiny. Thank you for any attention to this matter.

Several incidents of serpentine belt disengaged (slipped off pulleys) caused loss of steering and overheated engine. First time happened in car wash and three times driving through rain puddles.

After getting caught in an early evening's thunderstorm,i attempted a regular, right turn off us 34 toward our subdivision.our 2000 chrysler mini van lost power steering during the turn.i was unable to keep completely with in my lane. Thankfully, no one was in the opposing traffic lane.after regaining my composure, i deciding it was ok to "limp" home with the van, through the subdivision.i noticed a lot of the dash lights were triggered, which indicated to me that the alternator was no longer working for the final couple of blocks. This affected the brightness of the headlights and slowed the wiper speed.this also affected the air conditioner and that prevented the defogger from working properly.once at home, i found that the serpentine belt had come off.in another moment of time, the belt's coming off might have easily have resulted in more disaster. Consulting the auto repair place, (which had replaced the same belt in june), i had the van towed in, where a new belt was installed. Nothing else was found amiss in the system.it was suggested that perhaps the rain or a particular puddle had the effect of causing the wet belt to slip off during the turn.and it was mentioned that they had seen similar "wet belt" issues from my van's manufacturer.now i'm afraid to drive in the rain with the van for fear of it happening again with worse consequences.

I own a 2000 chrysler town and country with a 3.8 liter engine.i've had the serpentine belt fall off numerous times in the past starting at 95000 miles and then at 131000.i replaced the belt 3 times along with the tensioner and belt along with the water pump to try to eliminate this issue and it worked....for a year.... It just had it happen again.after reading issues on the internet, this apparently is a common issue.luckily when it happened, i was driving and was able to steer the vehicle without power steering.if it were my wife driving, the steering issue becomes a safety issue.i feel chrysler should be held accountable for this safety related issue.i've not seen any recalls with regards to this issue.

Local dealer (spirit chrysler, lubbock) has no idea why the problem persist.dt

After repeated serpentine belt replacement on 2000 t&c the belt has slipped off during a "minor" rain storm, the belt slipped off again and caused me to lose power steering and i crashed into another vehicle as well as a business. I contacted the dealer and they informed me that even though there have been repeated complaints about this problem, that because the nhtsa has not issued an "official" recall of this problem that there was nothing that could be done. What are my tax dollars being spent on?

Update to the problem related to the serpentine belt of a 2000 town and country.(odi number: 770436 12/4/02). A fifth (5th) occurence occured on jan 17, 2004 . Still without resolution other than tow the van and put back the serpentine belt.

Up to 1999 model town & country, by chrystler, we under recall for a part in the steering column.my vehicle was produced in 1999, but was the 2000 model.recently, i had to have the same part replaced in my vehicle that was under the recall from chrystler, but it is not covered.i feel that the same part should be covered regardless of the model year.

2000 chrysler town and country belt problems.*mrthe drive belt for the power steering slipped off while driving through a puddle.the dealer replaced the idler pulley but the belt has slipped off twice since then.

Consumer states that the steering column has been replaced twice and there is still a noise when making a turn. Please provide additional information.

When turning the steering wheel consumer heard a popping noise coming from the steering column.consumer took vehicle into the dealership for inspection.however, the problem recurred.

When drivingin the rain vehicle lost power steering. This caused the vehicle to drift to the side of the road. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership on two separate occasions, but problem recurred.

While driving my 2000 chrysler t&c in wet weather, the drive belt slipped off during a left turn. The steering immediately became very hard due to the loss of power. If my wife had been driving there could have been a serious accident as she is not strong enough to turn the vehicle. The service department at bermont motors said that this happens often when going though puddles. Loss of steering happens often when going through puddles? the drive belt slips off in wet weather and puddles! how safe is a loss of steering, even just for a little while?

The front driver side top strut is coming through the chassis.thepower steering failed when making a right turn.the driver side gets wet and the driver shoulderharness is getting wet, and molding, and theanchorage is rusting. .

It sounded like an explosion.the van began to decelerate and the steering began to lock within about 10 seconds of the explosion sound.the van stopped and the tires locked up.

When making slow turns in wet road conditions, in either direction, power steering goes out for 3-4 seconds. As soon as turn is completed power steering is back on. Vehicle has been examined twice by dealer, could not find a cause.

The vehicle lost power steering while driving over puddles.when this occurred the steering wheel became hard to turn.the dealership indicated that the manufacturer is aware of the problem but they don't think it's dangerous. The van has been serviced 5 times for this issue.

While negotiating a curve, i lost all control of steering.my van went into a ditch.the tie rod end just came out.there is no rust, no damage, etc.it just came undone.i had to buy a new one and have it replaced.the auto parts dealer has never seen one that just came apart.

Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 5 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle striking another vehicle.upon inspection, the driver side front tire was observed to be leaning inward.there was a police report filed at the scene.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic that determined the spindle assembly fractured, and would need to be replaced.

This vehicle has veered to the right ever since i took delivery. I called the dealer within 30 minutes of delivery and returned with the vehicle. They have worked on it 4 times now replacing parts and making adjustments. They now tell me that it is a caracteristic of the vehicle and that i need to get used to it. I feel very unsafe driving it. I have an appointment tommorrow with another dealer to have them take a look at it. The mechanic at metro c/p agrees that i have a problem, but is at a loss on how to solve it. He told me that there was a similar vehicle with the same problem just before i had had mine in.

Drivers side strut tower rusted so bad that a hole has appearedaround where the strut mounts to the tower.

The contact owns a 2000 chrysler town and country.while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed rust on the strut tower underneath the hood.there were no prior warnings to this defect.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the strut tower needed to be replaced at an autobody shop.at this time, the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 118,000 and current mileage was 119,000.updated 08/15/08.

The contact owns a 2000 chrysler town and country.the contact stated that he had to use force in order to open the liftgate.he stated that the bolts that attach the gas struts had failed and was related to nhtsa campaign id number 99v123000 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings).the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle.he has not called the dealer and no repairs have been made.the current and failure mileages were 190,000.

The contact owns a 2000 chrysler town and country.the contact stated that the driver side shock tower is corroding, which can cause the three bolts to rust and become a safety issue.the manufacturer stated that they are not responsible.the vehicle has not yet been to the dealer.the current mileage was 92,750 and failure mileage was 68,000.

Consumer complainedabout seat beltslocated in the middle which secured child safety seat.

Rusted left strut tower cap on a chrysler 2000 town and country. This is a common problem with the van just check the blogs on a computer or call an auto repair shop. This is a dangerous problem i'm told if the problem was not discovered it's possible the strut could force through the rusted tower top causing the driver to lose control of the steering. The repair will cost me $300.00 to $400.00 dollars. This is an obvious bad design that needs to be recalled by chrysler before people lose their lives.consumers purchase autos in good faith that they will be safe and that we will not have to be financially penalized for bad designs.

1996-2000 chrysler and dodge mini vans. Could be any model of the van within each divisions lineup. Not every van has this problem but many many do and chrysler has dropped the ball not picking up the tab for the repairs of hundreds of thousands of these mini vans.chronic rusting of the strut towers in these vans. Especially the drivers side (like mine). I have found this is a very prevalent problem in these vans due to improper manufacturing and sealing of the strut tower after doing some extensive research on the internet. If not repaired the strut tower completely rusts/rots through allowing the strut assy to collapse through the support tower and potentially causing a loss of control or crash of the vehicle.chrysler made available (at customers cost for the repairs) a support cap that addressed the problem if it was caught in time. A band aid solution at best. Many vans are rusted/rotted beyond what the cap is designed to fix and require very, very expensive and potentially unreliable replacement of the entire strut tower unitmy car has not been repaired yet but is rusted/rotted well beyond what the chrysler cap unit can fix. All the body shops i have visited have mentioned this is a very common problem with these model year vans and the repair is in the $2000 dollar range to fix. 2 said they did not want to even touch it and i better get it repaired asap and avoid pot holes etc.

Chrysler 2000 town and country strut tower rust. Drivers side of strut tower rusted so bad that the strut is going to rip through the top of the rusted tower. This is a common safety issue problem that should be covered under a call back safety issue. My van is parked in my garage when not in use, so my van has little exposure to the harsh weather elements. We keep our van washed and waxed oil changed every 2000 miles so the van is kept mechanically and cosmetically in good repair. This is definitely a design flaw that chrysler will not stand behind. Why would anyone want to purchase an american vehicle? with all of our technology we produce flawed designed vehicles. I will not get into chevy silverado steering column banging and transfer case pump rub. I will no longer purchase american flawed technology vehicles. Shame on the american auto industry for ripping of consumers that don't have the money waste on repairing the ongoing flaws.

Normal use of the vehicle has led to strut towers rusting and separating under the hood, causing a potentially dangerous loss of control while driving the vehicle. Repair shop told me to repair with a "strut tower repair kit". They then explained this is a very common defect in chrysler/dodge minivans from 1996-2000 and there is a technical service bulletin #23-044-02 about the condition and repair. If left undiagnosed and un-repaired, this could cause a vehicle owner to lose control of the vehicle while driving. Due to the # of incidents & repairs, this seems to be a product design defect. Chrysler refused to pay for the kit. I don't understand why a recall would not be issued...because no one has died yet?

The l/h strut tower on my 2000 chrysler town and country is rusting out.i have found many complaints on the internet about this and understand that chrysler has not considered this a safety issue.i am a mechanic and i believe it to be potentially dangerous.i will be repairing my own vehicle using chryslers tsb 23-044-02 as a guide.

Bumper is too low and will scrape against ground, causing damage to vehicle. Dealer notified.the manufacturer should pay for the wear and tear of the bumper which resulted from the design defect.

While ten year old child was getting out of van side power sliding doordepressed close buttonand sliding door closed on child. With force child pushed door open.

The rear door handles are apparently faulty. My mother tried to open the rear drivers side door and the door handle broke off in her hand, then approx. A month later the rear passenger door handle also broke off as i was trying to put my child in the car. No excessive force was used, it appears that the handles are just cheaply made. In order to have them replaced at the dealership, the handles/labor will be $198 each to be fixed, which to me seems incredibly ridiculous considering the parts are cheaply made.

Van makes metal bending noise when not driving on smooth surface/ already had to have the floor board welded to the frame on other side of vehicle.

2000 chrysler t&c - strut towers rusted through.

I have a 2000 chrysler town and country van with rusting strut towers. The drivers side has more than the passengers side. The drivers side is about to push through and go into the hood. I asked my dealer about any safety recalls or modifications, they said no. I have seen the chrysler service letter and asked my dealer about it and they said that the work should be done when working in that area under warranty to in stall the chrysler update kit. I had my struts replaced back in 11/2004 and asked about the rust and loss of metal then and they said it would not be warranty. I have also been told by a former service advisor at that dealer that they have performed this work under warranty or policy. This is a serious safety concern, the mini van is a family vehicle which my wife and kids ride in daily. I am one person and i need help with the large carmaker please. I have not had any injuries yet but please help me before i do.

The shock tower mounting which holds the strut wheel and steering assembly has corroded due a design defect and has allowed the strut and wheel assembly tobecome disconnected to the vehicle causing an unsafe /catastrophic condition to exist.this design defect was noticed during an unrelated inspection. The defect was reported to chrysler dealer on 7/23/08. The service dept. Was aware of this recurrent problem and stated that a service bulletin had bee issued to dealers in 2002 but owners had not been notified via a vehicle recall notification.

Since consumer bought vehicle it had always pulled to theright due to bent subframe, possibly done at assembly or damaged at delivery.please provide further information.

While vehicle was having over $1000.00 in unexpected repairs for defective parts (shattering drive plate, $550.00 exhaust crossover pipe) it was discovered that both strut towers have rust perforation and are structurally unsafe. I have been told that this is a common problem that all chrysler minivans manufactured between 1996 and 2000 experience.i have owned this vehicle since new and it has always been well maintained, garaged, and well cleaned and waxed.i am always particular about washing road salt off the underside of my vehicles frequently. I am particularly upset that chrysler knows about this problem, and has the nerve to charge me over $1000.00 to fix the defect in their vehicle.without this repair my vehicle is dangerously unsafe to drive.i am just thankful that i was alerted to the problem before it killed my family.

I have not driven the van anywhere, it has been sitting for 2 years and the strut towers are rusting out at the top.

The contact owns a 2000 chrysler town & country. The contact stated that the driver strut mount was completely corroded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician verified the failure and stated that the struts needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 177,000.

The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 123,000.

While driving at any speed car pulled to the right. Consumer has taken vehicle to 3 chrysler dealers and on outside source. While the vehicle was at a body shop, the mechanic informed the consumer that the front strut and the strut tower needed to be replaced. The dealer was not notified.

I am experiencing corrosion penetration of the driver's side strut tower on my 2000 chrysler town and country limited minivan.the body of the van including the passenger side strut tower is absent of any corrosion.i just became aware of a service bulletin chrysler issued on october 14, 2002 for correcting this problem (bulletin # 23-044-02).it seems apparent to me that chrysler has been aware of this issue for some time and should have as a minimum alerted owners to this potential problem before it magnified itself.i believe chrysler now should incur the cost for repair of this obvious defect.

The strut towers are rusting .

Chrysler town & country shock towers rusted-out made year 2000i havetalked to a body shop and they said that itwill fully rust out with in the year . This si a hazard and he said he has all ready replaced a buch of shock towers.on this type of van. Some he said he's sean 3 years after they were madeif you do a gogel surch on the subject you will find alot ofstorys about this year van. I guss chrysler make a a plaet that has to be welded in sothattells me they know about it but would rather make money off of peoples safety rather then recall it for the shock towers.

Event leading to failure: none -(low battery) apparently causes failure (wear/tear item) meaning this is guaranteed to happen every 4-5 years!failure: sudden failure of the tachometer and speedometer guages - after work was performed dealer claimed the pcm module shut off (do not know what this is) which apparently controls these items.correction: battery replaced due to low battery - apparently i was told that, by design, the pcm module will shut off on a low current condition from the battery but still allow the motor vehicle to operate.this places the vehicle in a condition that it is illegal to drive the vehicle with an inoperable speedometer.in addition, since the module is 'shutoff', no battery warning or check engine warning indicators function to notify you of a problem.this was incorrectly replaced 6 months earlier (jan 2005) with a new speedometer control.

The clock spring lost the connection to the electrical system.as a result, horn, air bags, and cruise control become inoperable.

I had a clicking in my steering wheel with air bag light going on & off then it final stayed on. I had no horn or cruise control or radio controls on steering wheel. Took to dealer for repair.

Airbag warning light illuminated and horn, radio and cruise control functions on the steering wheel stopped functioning.this is related to a "clock spring" mechanism that was similar to prior year recalls, but not included in the 2000 my.

Water condensation from air condition leaks inside the vehicle at the driver's feet . I bought the vehicle ( chrysler town & country minivan) in april 2000, and the leak started in 2002. The dealer attempted four times to fix it since 2002. Now the van is out of waranty, and the dealer thinks that the a/c evaporator is at fault and they want to charge me to fixt.i declined to paybecause i believe that the dealer should have fixed the van before the warranty expired. The dealer still charged me $78for telling me that in order to fix the problem they have to replace the evaporator.

Exiting highway at 30 mph when rain started. Attempted to engage electric control button to raise drivers side window; window jammed about one inch from top. Pushed control button again but window did not move. Within about 20 to 30 seconds smoke began entering interior of car from under the control buttons panel; also distinct odor of burning plastic and/or rubber started coming from inside my left front drivers door panel. Smoke and acrid fumes became very strong as i pulled over and stopped. I threw open my door, got out and immediately used my always present ratchet screwdriver to remove the control button cover and was able to disconnect the two electric plugs which i observed and luckily within about 2-3 minutes the smoke ended. About thirty minutes later i restarted my car and drove immediately to my dealers servive center. After about three hours the service mgr. Informed me that a short circuit in the electrical system had taken place and had "fried" several of the computers within the system. As i had purchased the extended service contract, i was told that the repairs were totally covered. It was overheard by me when the mechanic was speaking to the svce. Mgr. That their was evidence of water within the inner door and also in and around the control buttons on the inside. Is it possible that the real problem is with body design which allows rain water to somehow leak into the interior of the drivers door unnoticed and therby causing this emergency? perhaps the electrical system is ok but not the channeling away of rain water or even car wash water. Also, when they repair the electrical components on my car, do i have to worry about this happening again whenever it rains? i really could have been seriously injured or killed as well as other people near me on the road had the smoke and fumes overcome me before i had the chance to pull off the road.

I am on my third power window cable and motor. All three on the passenger side.

While driving chrysler t&c front right wheel shook, then came off.bolts shaved off.i see many other complaints of this, so there is clearly an issue here.i feel so fortunate that i was only driving 15 mph on a side street and was not crossing a busy highway when this incident occurred!

2000 chrysler town and country right front wheel came off while driving. The driver was able to slow down and pull to the side of the road safely.the right front wheel lugs (rim studs) were broken.the studs appeared to have rusted through.the bumper, disk brake, the body around the wheel well and some parts under the van were clearly damaged.there may be additional damage.

After having to replace the tires three times air is still leaking from the rims.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Consumer noticed a flat tire due to a slow leak which came from the rear driver's side aluminum rim.the dealer had been contacted.the tire was water tested and a slow leak was detected at the edge of the rim.the tire was removed from the rim and it was observed that the rim was flaking/corroded.the edge of the rim was cleaned with a power tool and greased.the tire was installed and inflated.this was the second flat tire due to a slow leak at the edge of the rim.the first incident occurred on the opposite side a few months earlier.the same repair procedure was used. *scc *nlm

The consumer stated that the rear and front rim medallion chrome completely rusted and was leaking air.the dealer stated they had never seen this before.on two occasions the tire was replaced due to the rim leak, on another occasion, the tire was repaired due to a slow leak, then one last tire repair was due to the slow leak but had massive corrosion on the inside. *scc

Dt: the contact stated that three of four tires wereleaking air. This air leakage was due to defective wheels. There were pits where beads set in the wheel of the vehicle. The tire dealer tire added sealant to the bead, and this did not correct the problem. The tire dealer recommended that the wheels be replaced. One of tires experienced extreme overnight leakage. The other twotires only leaked slowly. The wheels have not beenreplaced at this time. The manufacturer would not cover the wheels under personalized service contract warranty.the wheels were chrome plated aluminumand corrosion caused these pits. Updated 12/7/2005.
