Read complaints for CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY LWB (2006)

Our 2006 chrysler town and country air bag warning lights lit occasionally in fall 2009.by dec 2009 both driver and passenger air bag warning light are always lit when the van is running.our internet search found that 270,000 2005 chrysler minivans were recalled for this same issue (warning lights stayed on, airbag sensors were corroded causing airbags to either fail to deploy or deploy at an improper rate).this seems to be a significant safety issue.why haven't the 2006 chrysler minivans been recalled?

Vehicle has about 4000 miles on it.airbag light illuminates intermittently when turning the steering wheel.this happens several times during a drive, and sometimes the light seems to turn on and off randomly, but it's fairly repeatable with turning the wheel.i am sending this complaint because i have seen this problem on several chrysler minivans starting with a 1998 model and i am surprised that this systemic safety problem has not been fixed in at least eight years.

In march of 2009 we purchased a 2006 chrysler town&country minivan from a chrysler dealer with 27k miles on it.i purchased an extended warranty.in the past month i realized the airbag light was on and this week i took it into the dealer for inspection and repair.the dealer contacted me and told me the 2 sensors in the front were rusted and corroded and that they no longer were sending a signal rendering them useless.they told me it would be $401 to fix.i told them i had never heard of airbag sensors corroding and that is sounded like a safety issue.they told me it happens some times.i checked the internet and found that this is a known issue with the 05/06 vans.i called the dealer and told them i was upset that they didn't tell me this was a known issue.they claimed that they never heard of it.based on what i have read, it sounds like chrysler is doing a voluntary fix on about 350,000 vehicles.how do i get mine fixed without paying the $400?i already had to pay the dealer $100 just to diagnose the issue and $35 for a rental car because it was not a warranty or recall repair.

Airbag fault light illuminated at 36,400 miles. Vehicle in service for 27 months. Dealer replaced 2 sensors and 2 wiring harnesses. Dealer did not charge for repair, citing "1-time out of warranty goodwill" for repair.

Roof began to leak when car was about 1 year old. Leaks passenger side mainly occ. Drivers side. Dealer replaced pass side moon roof drain tube - did not fix leak. Rains seldom in so. Cal. So problem not noticed during dry season. There is now intermittent electrical failures such as air-bag lights going on. Unable to turn on headlamps at times.

I hit a power pole and a ditch at 55mph.the car went airborn, hit the pole, spun around and landed on the passenger side.no airbags deployed.i filed a complaint with chrysler and they said that i did not decelerate fast enough for the airbags to go off.i was injured slightly but my seat belt was on.the key was jammed in the ignition and twisted and the car was shut down.the impact was that hard.i find it hard to believe that the airbags would not go off.the state trooper, insurance company and the man who owns the garage where the vehicle was towed all said in their professional opinion the airbags should have gone off.i don't know where to turn at this point.it is my understanding from what i saw on the news that the airbag sensors may be being recalled in the near future.however, i don't feel like they addressed this issue at all.i was alone in the vehicle and i was on my home from work after a 12 1/2 hour shift.i did fall asleep and was less than one mile from my home.

I own a 2006 chrysler town and country with 54,000 miles.the airbag light is continuously illuminated on the dashboard.since the airbag light is illuminated, the airbag will not deploy.i had a mechanic look at the codes, and the driver's side frontal sensor is corroded.this is the same problem as the 2005 chrysler town & country which has a recall with nhtsa campaign number: 07v192000.i hope you can amend the 2005 recall to include 2006 models, that way; this can be paid for by the manufacturer.the cost for a mechanic to repair is approximately $160 or parts and labor.

Air bag light went onin my 2006 chrysler t&c van, took to dealership to check out.found out on line previous year 2005 had a recall for exact same problem (over 250,000) vehicles, since my year did not have a recall required to pay 320.00 for repair.don't understand, since obviously problemstill exists why i had to pay for repairs that were done for cars one year older than mine. Chrysler basically told me since there was no recall it was my problem.if i did not get this fixed i would have had to drive not knowing if airbags would work or work when not needed. Only happens in car in cold weather states corrosion of electrical wire to airbags which i then shorts out sensors.

The airbag warning light in my 2006 chrysler town & country touring van is constantly illuminated. It first became illuminated while driving in a heavy rainstorm earlier this year and it would then go off and on intermittently during operation. The airbag light now stays on continually whenever i run the vehicle. I believe this issue to clearly be due to the circumstances contained within chrysler's "safety improvement campaign j38" and the nhtsa campaign id #10v008000/nhtsa action #rq09003. My vehicle was also built within the time frame described within this campaign. When i contacted chrysler, they informed me that my vehicle was not a part of this campaign with no further explanation. I do not see how this can be and i do not feel that i should have to pay to correct this safety issue where chrysler clearly admits that it has a problem with its front airbag sensors on the make and model for this 2006 year. Any assistance that you can provide in a remedy to this situation would be appreciated. Thank you.

Passenger airbag disabled light is constantly on. I purchased the vehicle on 1/28/06. I took the car to carmax on 1/31/06 to have it repaired. Carmax isstill unable to cure the problem as of 2/8/06. The ordered a new seat belt retractor and that did not work. They tried to replace the seat with a seat from another vehicle and that did not work.

I was in a car accident on 9-16-06, which was caused by another driver running a stop sign and smashing the front, driver side of my 2006 chrysler town & country.the estimated damage thus far is over $8,000.the car is still at the shop being repaired.none of the air bags deployed.i have since learned, by reading this website, that the front air bags used in this vehicle are currently being investigated by the nhtsa.chrysler corp. Advised me that it would investigate the air bags in my car (purchased one week prior to accident), but i have not heard anything yet, despite submitting a complaint on line, writing a letter and placing telephone calls.the dealer, chrysler paramus, of new jersey, has also been uncooperative in this regard.i was advised today by the mechanic that the car repairs should be complete in another week or so.however, that only refers to the damage from the collision.the car will still have defective airbags and that is of grave concern to me.

The passenger side slider door gets requested to open from the overhead console switch by the driver to let out my 6 year old son for school who has his book bag with him.on multiple occasions this procedure results in that door return back forward toward my son prior to completely opening; it reaches about 75% of full open.because of cost, timing and hopes that the door would not crush him if he could not hop out quick enough, no repair has been made yet.however just lastnight while making a left turn through an intersection that same door opened slightly without warning but immediately closed making the common loud actuator noise.afterward to test the system we tried to drive with the door open and an alarm sounds and the cluster has the door ajar message so i am fairly confident that the door was initially closed during our trip where the slide door opened.i willtry to adjust the door height soon because i know it is a little low due to an operable noise from the top track.i doubt this will fix theissue, but that is all i can find for service info through the bulletins and service manual i have access to.

Whenever headlights are turned on, or the interior lights are turned on, the lights dim and the brighten repeatedly.

The catalytic converter was replaced so nys inspection could be passed. In may of 2014 i was told that it is bad again & needs a replacement but the shopcan't get it because the regulations have changed to use ca standards and the unit us not available.this us resulting in unreasonable expense.

Filled up our van with gas. Left the gas station to cut across oncoming traffic. The lane was clear so i went. As i accelerated the van shuddered and cut off in the middle of traffic!. Lost all power, steering wheel locked up, and the engine cut off.luckily we were not in a head on collision or were t-boned in theside. My wife and 1 year old were in the car and could have easily been killed.immediately i went and started doing some research on what happened. Come to find it a lot of people are having this problem with these vans. The problem is a design flaw in the gas system of these vans.i found multiple people who are experiencing the same thing.to date there have been no recalls on this issue.multiple people are experiencing the same problems and you can see their stories found here:http://en.allexperts.com/q/chrysler-repair-807/f/stalling-refueling.htmalso this problem has been documented: found here : http://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/engine-stalls-after-filling-tank-chrysler-minivan/now that you have been notified of this, i hope there is a recall order for this to be fixed.it is only a matter of time before someone is killed due to this design and engineering flaw.maybe someone already has been, and didnt live to tell the story. All i know is it doesn't get much worse than losing all power steering, acceleration, and the engine shutting off.hopefully someones death or an accident with serious injuring is not what it takes for a major recall to happen.thank you for your concern and keeping us safe.

The rear evaporator has leaked since september 2008 making the car only 2 years old to have to have such an expensive fix.

Chrysler town and country 2006 air conditioner went out they unable to fix because of multiple failures and unable to get parts. For people who are seventy as us it becomes a health problem.

At 49,000 miles the check engine light comes on. Knowing i probably couldn't afford the repairs at our dealership, i decided to diagnose and repair the vehicle myself. The check engine code read p0480, a code noting a problem with the cooling fan system. After researching the code online, i realized that i was not the only one with this problem. It turns out the town and country, in winter weather, tends to have cooling fans freeze up. As a result, the cooling fan relay will blow out. As i waited for my new relay to arrive in the mail ($47 online, $90 at your dealership) the check engine light turned off. Thinking that maybe the vehicle had made a clean trip, i checked the computer again. P0480 was still stored within. The next day i received my new relay via mail, and went to install the part. Upon calling brookdale luther's service department to acquire the location of the relay on my vehicle, the service employee, though very helpful, noted that chrysler new of the problem and that i would need an update to my vehicles computer ($120). In response to my question why, i was told that the computer needed to know when the fan motor was jammed to turn the motor off before blowing out the relay. So i could keep buying relays, or pay the $120. My question is this. If chrysler knows of a problem that could cause a vehicle to eventually overheat, which in some cases could cause a fire, why wouldn't they issue a recall.

The air conditioning stopped working in spring 2009.the air conditioning was recharged, but failed again less than 2 weeks later, in early july 2009.at that time, we were told the rear air conditioning evaporator was leaking and needed to be replaced.we cannot get it replaced because the aftermarket replacement parts are on national backorder.however, if we buy the same parts from the dealer, at a total extra cost of over $200, we can get the parts now.i have also tried to charge the air conditioning with a kit from a parts store, but after 3 cans, the air is not as cold as it should be and the pressure is not as high as it should be.we have had the car since march 2006 and it has about 43,000 miles on it.

Turn signal doesn't work, or else it will blink the opposite side than what is turned on.

The map light bulbs made incomplete electrical contact.this caused arching between the contacts on both passenger and driver side map lights.the plastic then melted and resulted in a fire inside the map light assembly(oem wagoner part no. J5-pc579).

Turn signal will flash either right or left, and actually changes to right when turning left, and left when turning right.i have had two very near mishaps due to the person behind me not knowing which way i am turning.i took the 2006 chrysker town and country van for repairs, and they knew what was bad, but did not have the part(s) avaliable.i am still driving this very unsafe vechicle, waiting for them to get the part(s).

Stalls at stop after full gas tank refueling, doesn't stall if not completely full.

After filling fuel tank, engine would stall while in motion, stopped or at any speed on a road soon after leaving the fuel station.the engine stalling only occurred after a fill up and was not affected by weather conditions, fuel vendor or fuel amount pumped. No engine lights or codes showed up after the incidents. This is a safety hazard especially while driving.

2006 chrysler t&c: passenger sliding door will not unlock or open with remote or console switch.driver door switch will sometimes unlock to allow manual opening.

For some history, i owna 2006 chrysler town and country lx that is less than 21 months old, i do not have power doors.the van that has less than 20,000 mileson it made and odd noise.got out to check and saw nothing.it did it again while turning,so i stopped again to check, and as i was putting it into park the noise was continuous,it was a busted cv axle.nowi know what the malfunction was, but at that point i had no clue. I was attempting to get my three year old out of the car and the sliding door would not open.i double checked that the doors were unlocked and was trying to pull the handle to get the door to release.at this point i gotfrantic, and when the door finally released, it flew back so hard that it caused a dent in the rear corner panel.i understand that the vehicle must be in park in order to open the back hatch.the issue i have is that the door did not release properly to the extent that hadthe car been on fire i could have lost my child.i have looked up some things about chrysler vehiclesand people getting trapped in them and it didn'tseem all that uncommon.after i had my child out i even tried turning the van on and off to get it to shift into park.ispoke with the dealer, and even the customer service people , and was told that they will adjust the door but nothing more.i didnot think they were taking this seriously, even after the service manager had a hard time getting the door to release.

While driving a new 2006 town and country, the vehicle would not shift out of 2nd gear.initially, pulling over, shutting the car off, and restarting the car would resolve the issue.however, after this shut-off procedure the car would downshift very rough (with an audible banging noise).vehicle was brought to the dealership where it was purchased within 24hours of the first symptom.the check engine light did illuminate.dealership has had the car for 4 days at this point without even having diagnosed the problem.we are driving a rental vehicle as a substitute.

I've been experiencing issues with my a/c unit however, whether this issue has anything to do with what happened tonight or not, i don't know.i had gone to turn my 2006 chrysler town and country off while it was in park & it just started to roll backwards! i quickly reached for the gear shift to make sure it was in park but it already was!i then went to step on the brake & it still wouldn't stop!i have to believe this was nothing less than a major malfunction of some sort!the only thing that stopped me from rolling backwards was when my van crashed into my father-in-laws truck parked several feet behind me.this incident could have seriously hurt, even killed someone had they been in the way of my van rolling backwards!my 7 month old daughter was in my arms as this occurred.i had simply reached across from the passenger side to shut the engine off when all of this happened.i managed to jump one leg across to the drivers side to put my foot on the brake just to find out it wasn't going to stop the van from rolling backwards anyways!

Our 2006 chrysler town & country minivan had experienced a broken axle at just 16,000 miles.quite a short distance for something like that to happen.

Left front drive axle shaft broke while driving slowly in destin florida while we were on vacation.if this had happened while i was driving 70 mph on the interstate i can imagine several tragic consequences.this van is gently driven, well-maintained, and gave no warning of failure before-hand.

Seat belts "lock up" on my 2006 chrysler minivan.this problem happens occasionally - possibly 4-5 times in the past 12 months.the seat belts will neither retract nor advance but are instead locked in place.the belt ultimately seems to "correct itself" after a few hours of sitting.the problem is exclusively to the seat belts in the middle row captain chairs.yet this is where my children sit.in the past, we have needed to move their car seats to the rear to belt them in.i asked the dealership when it first happened in 2008 if this was covered under warranty, the dealership indicated it was not and we would have to pay to get it fixed.the last occurrence was december 2009.

Rear rotors delaminated causing severe vibration while braking and partial loss of brakingability in vehicle less than 4 yr old with 42k miles.i have retained the rotors and can send photographs if requested

When car is in cruise the brake sometimes requires excessive pressure to brake or disengage cruise control.it is as if the brake is stuck.

While conducted an oil change, i noticed that both rack and pinion boots are wet with power steering fluid.this is a low mileage vehicle and am disappointed that the steering is already leaking fluid.i have not had this checked with a mechanic as of yet but i imagine that after reading complaints here and on other sites, i will end up having to replace the entire rack and pinion assembly to correct this leak.a simple boot replacement will not be sufficient as dirt and water will already have damaged the assembly.i would recommend having chrysler conduct a recall and replacing these with quality components at no expense to the vehicle owners.

Power steering rack failure at 38,000 miles. Whine on start-up. Leak discovered when car was inspected. Mechanic says it is occurring on lots of these vans and the parts are back-ordered the problem is so bad.

The van was purchased used in 2007 with approximately 4,000 miles from flemington chrysler in nj.at approximately 10,000 miles, the rack was found to be leaking and it was replaced under warranty.soon after, the steering seemed a little tight but we chalked it up to the new components.fast forward to 2012, the van now has 80,000 miles and the steering has begun to whine, groan and shudder.i have flushed the fluid and now replaced the pump.the whine and shudder are still there so it looks like the rack has failed again.the van can easily become a safety problem and chrysler should be ashamed.definitely the last chrysler product i buy which is too bad because they've put out some really unique, good looking cars lately. My family's safety is more important thanks.

I started experiencing a loud whining sound coming out of the engine compartment area on an extended trip.i took the vehicle to the dealership while under warranty and they told me they could not replicate problem and suggested changing and flushing and complete service on transmission.while the whining sound subsided somewhat the sound still remained.now i come to find out the power steering pump is leaking fluid all over the exhaust with a terrible and nauseating odor coming into the cabin area.not only is this a potential fire hazard but also can be damaging to the respiratory system.the failure of this system is premature at best and extremely hazardous at its worst.

Rack & pinion leaking power steering fluid.

The steering began to whine and groan, particularly when cold and not having been driven for a day or more.it often continues to whine, especially when being turned more than one full circle, but sometimes even when sitting still and straight.the repair shop identified leaking steering rack boots and the fluid is a bit low.at this time, we have not done anything, because replacement of the boots is very expensive and replacement of the rack is more expensive.at the time, we hadthe minivan less than 3 years and it had just over 40,000 miles on it, just out of warranty.

2006 chrysler town & country mini van. When driving in the rain or through standing water over 1 inch deep the serpentine belt gets wet and you lose power steering immediately with no warning making it difficult if not impossible to turn. There are several reports on line of this happening as well as service centers saying they have even seen the vehicle throw the belt once it begins to slip. Chrysler does not have a fix for the problem nor does their customer service say there is a recall of any sort.

My 2006 town and country mini van has lost all power steering driving through modest puddles.this seems to happen when going through modest puddles (approximately 6 inches deep), and has only happened at low rates of speed.it has happened on 4 different occasions.when this happens, all steering is completely lost.the vehicle quite literally will not steer at all, but then the vehicle eventually "comes out" of it - after driving and attempting to turn for maybe 1/8 mile.almost as if what ever moisture caused the problem evaporates.the last occurrence was this past january.

My car was making a whining noise when the engine was cold.i brought it in to the chrysler dealer, and they informed me that the power steering pump was leaking, which had resulted in damage to the rack & pinion mechanism.the entire mechanism had to be replaced.not performing this repair could have resulted in the entire steering system locking up.my professional opinion (i am a mechanical engineer) is that this pump should not have failed at such low mileage (~45k).

My 2006 chrysler town and country had a terrible whining noise upon starting it. When you would turn corners, it whined even louder. It constantly leaked power steering fluid so bad that it was all over the exhaust. I took my van to the dealership where it was purchased to find out that the whole steering rack needed to be replaced. They then advised me to take my van home and drive it to florida while waiting up to 6 months for a replacement steering rack from chrysler. I refused to do this. This is a serious hazard. Power steering fluid was leaking all over the exhaust of the van, and they wanted me to take it on a 12 hour drive to florida!i told my dealer i would not leave the dealership with this vehicle, nor would i put my 3 small children (all under age 3) in this fire trap. They gave me a loaner. This is a serious safety concern, and i would hope that the nhtsa would be willing to help consumers out. The dealership even said there is a major problem. There were over 13000 of these "steering racks" on back order with chrysler. What is going to happen when powering steering fluid gets all over the exhaust, catches the vehicle on fire, and an entire family dies in a burning vehicle. Is this what it will take to get chrysler to do something. I would hope not, but it looks that way, luckily my dealer gave me a loaner vehicle, and within about 5 days, i had the power steering rack replaced. This is absolutely a safety hazard. Power sterring fluid is highly flammable. It is time to do something about this. Chrysler obviously does not care! thank you for your response and hopefully, quick action that is needed. Crystal

I made a u turn and the steering column locked which could have caused the vehicle to crash resulting in injury or death.i heard a loud pop while forcing the steering wheel back to the normal driving position.i stopped the vehicle and noticed the brake lights were on.i was unable to get them to turn off, so i took the vehicle to a chrysler/jeep dealership since it is still under warranty.they said that the aftermarket brake control wiring harness was routed too close to the steering column.the knuckle on the steering column pulled on the wiring harness which pulled on brake light switch and broke switch loose from it's mount.this inturn activated the steering wheelinterlock system.the dealer said repairs could not be done under warranty and any repairs were at my expense.i authorized them to replace the brake light and interlock system switch.they also said the whole steering column needed to be replaced if i wanted the steering wheel to lock after turning off the key.i don't know if a few small wires actually caused the problem.even if the wiring caused the problem, it seems like a real design flaw for a brake light switch coming loose from it's mount to cause the interlock system to lock the steering wheel while the vehicle is in motion.

Power steering rack assembly on 2006 chrysler town and country touring minivans:pre-mature failure causing possible loss of control of the vehicle.experienced intermittent hard steering, causing possible loss of control due to defects in the oem power steering rack design. Diagnosed by dealership as bad power steering rack... Internet data supports that multiple vehicles of this type are all failing at between 35k and 50k miles...

2006 town & country van failed nys inspection for safety reasons due to rack and pinion leaking seals.vehicle had under 48,000 miles.purchased new 12/31/2005.rack & pinion was replaced but was not covered by warranty. Neighbor reported same problem with their 2006 town & country van. Also had part replaced.are these all defective steering components?we are sending a letter to chrysler corporation today with a copy to nhtsa. Updated 03/24/10 updated 03/29/10. Updated 04/05/10.

2006 chrysler t&c: passenger sliding door will not unlock or open with remote or console switch.driver door switch will sometimes unlock to allow manual opening.

Discovered that valve stem had broken off. Valve stem is attached to tpms sensor and replacement valve stems are not offered. The breaking of the valve stems seems a common occurrence. Very disconcerting. This happened while driving, even though i did not notice until later and luckily, the tire did not deflate rapidly.

Stopped to inflate tires.as i started to remove the left rear tire cap it the stem blew out in my hand.i changed the tire but the additional weight blew out the second stem this time on the left front tire.i shot into the curb.by the time i got it up on the jack the right front tire stem blew and the right rear started to lose air.i had to replace 2 sensors.the right rear had been replaced already.

It was a clear day and the pavement was dry. I was driving about 55 mph on a 2 lane highway heading west on dayton-yellow springs rd near fairborn ohio. The car appeared to speedup on it's own, i hit the brakes and let up to try and gain control. The mini van went left of center, spun back to the right and flip on it's side into a ditch. I had been complaining to my husband that something was wrong with the van. He drove it a couple of times because of the high mileage had new tires put on. A couple of days prior to the accident, a co-work drove the van and she said something did not feel right with it. She has drive my van numerous times in the past.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 60 mph in the rain at night, there was a loud grinding noise noticed coming from the windshield wiper motor resulting in windshield wiper failure.the next day the vehicle was taken to the dealership for inspection.upon inspection, the dealership replaced the windshield wiper motor, which remedied the problem.the manufacturer was not alerted.
