I have a 2005 chrysler sebring that i purchased used. Around the end of march of this year the horn started blowing intermittently. I took it to a chrysler dealership and they said they found nothing. On april 8, 2007 my horn started going off again. This continued for that entire week the horn would blow even during the middle of the night disturbing myself and my neighbors. I took the car back to chrysler and was told the horn pad and airbag needed to be replaced for $730. After letting my car sit at the dealership for over a week i had to call chrysler myself to find out that the part was backordered. Had i not called, i never would have been notified. Due to such a lack of customer service i took my car back. I emailed chrysler and told them i should not be responsible for a defective horn and it should be recalled. Their response was of no help at all. I am also getting the brakes done frequently, and now my driver's side window is stuck it will not roll up. I have gone onto the chrysler website and entered my vin number for a recall search but they find nothing. I still feel there is something wrong with my car. A two year old car should not have this many issues.

Just as everyone else is complaining about my horn has a mind of its own and goes off on its own and lasts for several minutes. It is embarrassing and dangerous because the remainder of time i have no horn at all. There have been several times when i desperately needed to honk my horn to protect my safety. I have been lucky and uninjured this far. As is well known, to fix the horn i have to replace the whole air bag assembly. My estimate was about $800 which i simply cannot afford. I too think chrysler should own its responsibility for this common issue and cover the costs of repairs.. It is a significant safety hazard and whose stupid idea was to connect the horn to the air bag anyway? duh!
Air bag warning light comes on and off intermittening while drivering
When you push the horn it will not turn off. I pulled the fuse out so that i would not have to deal with the horn having a mind of its own. My fix was to purchase a switch about $4-5 at the auto store and rewire the horn in on my own. It looks a little tacky, i put the switch under the turn signal, but it is far better than being in traffic or at a light and having the horn go off for 5 minutes. Straight. I never took it in but i am guessing it is an issue with the horn switch which is under the airbag. Expensive fix which is why chrysler will never pay to fix the issue.

This complaint is on behalf of my father. Robert mulcahy sr. He owns a 2005 chrysler sebring (touring) auto. I don't have the vin number, but could get it. He was just involved in an accident that had him impacting another vehicle with the front of his car at or around 35-40 mph. We both find it incredible that neither air bags deployed. Does this sound like a normal operation of safety equipment? this accident happened in oak lawn, il., on the 9th of august, 2007.
Started engine, airbag light came on, and stays on. Checking for recall before going to dealer.

Safety hazard of driving on the interstate and the horn goes off scaring the driver next to you who could then run into you or run you off the road or they could run off the road themselves.this did not happen but i am worried it could...not only with my vehicle but anyone else driving one of these sebrings.

My vehicle was involved in an accident july 2010, damage was to the front driver's side.upon picking up car i complained of an engine knock and axle noise. Geico determined this was not due to the accident. I was told to take my car back to where the axle was replaced in april 2010 by pep boys. While waiting to be seen by an adjuster from geico, my vehicle would not start.i then had my battery and starter replaced by pep boys. My vehicle still had engine knock which geico said was not cause by accident. I then had my car taken to a repair shop where they diagnosed an oil pump problem.they later determined before replacing the oil pump that there were metal shavings in oil pan. They inspected my engine block and determine that engine block was clean due to my use of synthetic oil, but was not operable. The warranty regarding this was not covered for this by chrysler.

I've written to you people before about this problem and a girl called back and said she'd call again because you people are so busy. While driving or sitting still the security alarm system (horn blows off & on) goes off.the only way to stop it is to pull over, get out of the car ,open fuse box and remove the small yellow fuse marked for the horn.upon replacing the fuse i have driven as much as a day or up to (3) weeks before happening again.the vehicle is out of warranty so i took the car to (3) different repair facilities and they were unable to find a problem or solution.i contacted chrysler corporation and they said i would have to have a chrysler dealer run a diagnostic but that did not find the problem ($106.90) . They kept the car overnight and the next day called and said that i would need a horn module ($600.00) part and 2 1/2 hours labor ($320.00).i called to find a cost on a horn module but no parts store ever heard of it, even other dealers never heard of it. On a web site called carcomplaints.com it seems that a lot of us 2005 car owners are having the identical problem.can a class action suit be presented to chrysler?

I have had to disconnect the horn on my 2005 sebring, because it was going off anytime anywhere and it was causing huge problems for me. It just started for no reason one day. Does so randomly with no warning.it does this when i am parked or driving, makes no difference. It?s been doing this for months. The temporary fix was just to have it disconnected, but then i am left without a horn. The estimates to fix it are quite pricey. I have been informed that the horn is made with the wires too close. If you tap on it when it?s going off it will stop beeping. I can't believe this is not covered under warranty.... The horn is a safety feature of the car and if there is an electrical problem or whatever with it shouldn't there be a recall on this? i have spoken to chrysler and they have denied fixing this saying that my car is no longer covered under warranty since it is over 3 years old.

Horn randomly goes off, had to take the relay out to get it to stop going off at night. Only happens in the winter, when it is colder. Had to stop driving, about got ran off the road with out a horn that works. Dealer said it would be about $900 to fix. Should have been recalled years ago from all the complaints i have seen online.

Six months after purchasing a used chrysler sebring 2005 from a local dealership, a large stream of oil began (and continued) to pour out of the drive shaft seal when the engine was running. The car was taken to a service center where the problem was diagnosed as a bad drive shaft that had ruined the engine block and drive shaft seal. The only fix they offered was an engine replacement (which would cost more than the original cost of the vehicle).

I purchaseda 2005 chrysler sebring in 2006 with approx. 25k miles on it, 1 yr. Later it started leaking oil badly. It was found that the front seal on the crankshaft was pushed out. The garage through there resources found found that this was a problem with the 4 cyl. That chrysler knew about and even knew the serial numbers of the beginning and the end of the defect that had been machined in there engine blocks. This defect allows the crankshaft to float back and forth length wise and push the seal out. They have not done a recall for this and refuse to do anything about it. The fix for this defect is a new short block that is over $4k to be done. The oil leaks so bad that it soaks the undercarriage and rear of the car and could cause a fire by the exhaust being covered with oil.
2005 chrysler sebring transmission delays shifting from drive to park. ***no answer required***.*mrthe engine light had come on, there was a transmission delay from drive to park, if placed in neutral the vehicle would shake and jerks when placed in drive.the mechanic stated that this was normal.the engine light had come on again and the mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem.the third occurrence resulted in an evap leak, due to the gas cap which needed to be tightened.the fourth incident showed a diagnostic result gas leak code of 0441.on the fifth occurrence, the mechanic suggested that the wires were eaten by rodents.*sc

I have a 2005 chrysler sebring that has "sudden acceleration" that happens without warning.on december 30th '13 shortly after i registered the car i was driving off an expressway ramp i felt the car accelerate on it's own - i couldn't stop it. I turned the wheel into a snow bank and shut the car off.the same day on the way home it happened again. I had someone drive it perhaps 50 miles and it didn't happen for him.i drove it a few more weeks, then on february 27, 2014 pulling into a parking space it happened again, i applied my brakes but it wouldn't stop and the snow bank stopped us from going over an embankment. I removed my foot from the brake pedal and the engine continued to race with the wheels still spinning up against the snow bank i then shut the car off.the brakes just won't stop itthere is never enough time to put it in neutral.finally on march 18, 2014 i pulled slowly into a parking spot and the engine revved up so loudly and crossed over a center strip and through bushes into the back of a parked car with no one in it.i have not used the car since this accident. Fortunately my husband was with me each time and we know i handled the situation properly .i am a good driver with no accidents or tickets in over 40 years.every day i drive either a handicap van or a three quarter ton crew cab pickup, i've never had problems before this car. I also have a surcharge on my auto insurance for the next few years.i contacted chrysler and they had someone look at it.i had the car towed to and from the chrysler dealership. The engineer said, he drove it seven miles (big deal perhaps he should have parked it a few times).i received a letter saying (see below) that the car was okay.that was it! no satisfaction at all.in the meantime we have found on the internet other people are having the same problem.
2005 chrysler sebring hood opened while the consumer was driving and smashed against her windshield.the consumer stated back in july she could not get the hood to open. (ohio traffic crash report)
I've been a chrsyler person all my life. One day about two months ago i noticed my transmission not shifting properly, it stuck in low gear and after i gave the vehicle more and more gas it then finally shifted into second gear. After parking on a slight grade on a hill something with my fluid level was not proper.i checked my fluid and all was good. I have a associate degree in mechanics. So, after another week went by my transmission again would not shift properly after leaving work on day.this time i was parked on a level parking lot. It done this a couple time before sending to get looked at. I made an appointment at the dealership to look at it at this point. I advised that my transmission was shifting weird and it didn't do it all the time. So they did a diagnostic test, road tested and was advised noting was wrong with it. I advised them that why would i bring my car in for service if there was nothing wrong with it. Again i advised it doesn't do it all the time and i also asked if they had any service problems with that transmission? service manager advised me- they had a few issues. But until they come up with a diagnostic problem there is nothing they can do. They did advise me to change my tranny oil also at that time. I only had 49,000 on my car at that time. I am still experiencing this shifting problem to this date. I hope nhtsa could help in this manner.
I have been very pleased with my car and it's performance, till one day about two weeks ago i noticed the rpm's running a bit too high at 65 mph. I turned the radio down and the engine sounded like it was working to hard on a flat straight plain. I tried to downshift the transmission into 4th from drive(5th) but it did not change. So the trans. Will not go into 5th gear and on cold days it will rev up to 4 to 5 k before it will shift from 3rd to 4th gear at about 30 to 40 mph. I'm going today to get the oil changed and will tell the dealership of the problem and the recalls and other transmission problem reports i have read today...........................it is now later in the day, the dealership looked over my car, hooked it up to the computer, and found nothing wrong.no action was taken, no explanation for what i am experiencing was given.i have the report from the dealer and i am now submitting this, i will leave this paper trail to get some cost recoverydue to the car and dealerships inability to fix this seemingly common problem.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler sebring.the contact exited the vehicle without the key in the ignition.her elbow struck the gear shifter and placed it in reverse; however, the vehicle moved forward and struck a house and a porch.the contact entered her vehicle and drove to her residence.the dealer and manufacturer have not been notified.the front fender and the top of the hood were damaged.the insurance company will be notified.the failure and current mileages were 85,744.
Dt: since vehicle was purchased the gear shift has been hard to put into gear.there are grinding noises and it shakes.when this occurs the check engine light comes on. Vehicle was taken to the dealernumerous times. The dealer said they were unable to find anything wrong. Had not contacted themanufacturer. The consumer stated wires and hoses were replaced because of rodents.
Had a major oil leak. Thought it might be a cracked oil filter. Took it in to local shop and found out it was a failure in the crank case seal. They said it was caused by excessive vibration in the engine. They said it was caused by an unacceptable variance in the drive shaft causing excessive pressure on the seal. The vehicle only has 60,000 miles on it and we change the oil regularly. The shop checked and found several other like problems with the sebring over the past several months in identifix.com.this cost me $675.00 and only fixed the oil leak. The major issue with the drive shaft isn't fixed. The vehicle hasn't been in an accidents to cause any internal problems that are my fault. I think chrysler should help with these costs to the owners that have incurred these excessive costs.
After fastening my driver side seat belt i started driving down the highway and all the sudden the seat belt light came on and then started chiming it distracted me to the point that i almost went off the road trying to refasten the belt to no avail now it chimes almost constantly and unless i hold pressure on the release side of the seat belt it won't shut off and every time i hit a bump or if i release the pressure i'm exerting on the belt connector it starts chiming again it is very dangerous because you constantly have to take your eyes and attention off the road to play with the seat belt.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler sebring. While the vehicle was parked, the driver side air bag warning indicator illuminated.
I was pulling out of craft street onto south main st came out wide then straightened out my cumbys chug jug cup was loose in the cup holder on the passenger side.it tipped over under my feet and, it rolled under the brake pedal.we both tried to reach for the cup at the same time.as soon as we looked up we were heading into a parked vol ks wagon.i tried to hit the brakes and, my foot slid off the brake pedal and, hit the gas instead.i turned the wheel as soon as i saw that we were about to hit the car.
Brakes locked up on a city street when trying to stop at a stop light. Weather conditions were wet and cause vechicle to crash. This has happened before but this was the first time i crashed as a result.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler sebring. While driving various low speeds with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated. The contact applied excessive force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and something is eating the battery, the battery was replaced 2 so far under warranty. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times and the vehicle barely missed crashing into other vehicles each time. On another occasion, the engine continued to run after the key was removed from the ignition. The key was re-inserted, but the engine did not stop. The contact pressed hard on the brake pedal and the engine shut off. The contact stated that this failure occurred once and was diagnosed. The contact called northland chrysler jeep dodge at 248-398-8200 (located at 14100 eight mile rd, oak park, mi 48237) and the contact was informed that a diagnostic test was recommended. Steering became hard to control. When i turned the steering wheel to the left, a noise and the front right wheel was sideways therefore unable to drive. I just missed getting t-boned...scared to death. I see 3 different recalls listed for the make and model year. Per chrysler, per my vin, my car was not included in the recall. I find it very interesting that what happened to me is exactly what the recall description reads.
