Engine accelerated while at stop with foot on brake only, transmission in drive. Aggressive brake pressure needed to prevent vehicle from surging forward on it's own.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring.while driving 10 mph, the air bag light continued to dim.the vehicle was taken to a dealer twice.during the first visit, the dealer attempted to correct the failure, but it recurred seven days later.during the second visit, a new computer system was installed in the dashboard.the repair lasted approximately eight months before the failure recurred.the failure mileage was 36,489 and current mileage was 48,936.
Dt*:the contact stated the air bag light illuminated and the turn signals did not work.the dealership was alerted however, the vehicle has not been inspected.
Car cold stalls, stalls when at traffic lights, engine shakes violently, brakes squeal an grind, when starting car floods itself and cannot be turned on for a few hours, had an accident at 44-50 mph and airbag did not deploy, gears stick and do not come out of gear at times:insurance was called at time of accident and said noreason could be identified as to why airbag did not deploy. Car has had new brakes every 3-4 months, brand new cooling system, tune-up, oil change every 2500-3000 miles, dealership updated software, cold start stalling problem could not be duplicated, check engine light keeps coming on and off and no problems found at auto shop. I contacted the dealership and they informed me that since the car was used they were not going to and could not do anything about it and refused to check anything out or even listen to my concerns. I have researched and there have been many complaints on this model of vehicle doing all of these things. Since the first initial time of problem problems have continued. Car is at 96,000 miles but has left me strandeded since and keep having to replace parts.
Air bag lights come on while driving down the road.driver side door does not close properly.chrysler has not repaired because they claim they can't find problem.
I have owned 2 2004 chrysler sebring convt and both have had problems with the air bag light coming on.on vehicle #1 the seat belt tensioners were replaced on the front seats twice.i was in a collision in that car and it was a forceful front impact and the air bags did not deploy. Now i have had the second car for almost 6 months and the air bag light has already come on. I got upset and pulled the fuses out of the fuse box hoping the light on the dash would go off until i could get it to the repair shop on monday.when the fuses were replaced the repair shop told me all info was erased and when the light came back on to bring it back in.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring.while driving 30 mph, the contact's vehicle crashed into the side of another vehicle.there were no injuries.the entire front end of the contact's vehicle was damaged.the air bags failed to deploy.the contact was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.the road conditions were dry.a police report was filed.the current and failure mileages were 35,000.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v338000 (air bags); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Vehicle was purchased used with 18,455 miles on it. After vehicle was purchased we noticed a grinding noise with the brakes. We took the vehicle into the dealership and had the rotors replaced because they were warped. The vehicle continued to have the grinding sound, we brought thevehicle back to the dealership and again work was done on the brakes.we did not have opportunity to drive it much after as our daughter got into a car accident withthis vehicle on oct 13, 2005, she was pulling out of the elementary school parking lot (no more than 5-10 mph) to go across the road to enter the high school and another vehicle hit her front corner passenger side (other vehicle was going approx 40-45 mph).the real issue is that both front airbags did not deploy until several minutes after the accident occurred...that is what caused the majority of the injuries to my children.
Air bag light on dash is on. Meaning air bag is not operational.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. While driving at 70 mph, the contact was involved in a crash and struck a guardrail twice. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The vehicle had to be towed. A dealer was not contacted. The contact was not injured. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and sent two inspectors to examine the damage. The manufacturer informed the contact that it was an insurance issue and they were not liable. There were no recalls associated with the vehicle. The failure mileage was 145,000.
The air bag light came on and stayedon. Told it wasa tensioner switch in the seat belt clip side. They want an over priced $200 to fix this problem. Plus $88 just to diagnoseit.i think this wasall quite over priced. I will baypass this switch shorting the wires before if i have to pay for something like this. Chrysler should pay for this regardless of in or out of warranty. This was a defective part it was their fault in my opinion.
2004 chrysler sebring has a recurring air bag problem.*mrthe air bag light warning light would come on and go off numerous times while driving.a seat belt pre-tensioner was required, but that did not resolve the air bag light problem.the a/c would only blow on the highest setting. The left front window made a creaking noise when going up or down. The thermostat and gasket were replaced due to a coolant leak. The driver side mirror was loose.
I have several acquaintances that are emits, and on several occasions they have spoken to me about responding to accidents in which during the deployment of the drivers and passengers airbag systems passengers and drivers have been severely injured.for example, the cover on the steering wheel, when activated, and depending on the positions of the drivers hands on the wheel, digits have been severed.while passengers are riding, they often place their feet on the dash, then when the airbag is deployed if they do not react and move their feet, their knees are driven into their face or chest causing severe injury.i would like to know why these incidents have not been addressed in any report that i have read nor has the general public been notified as to the hazards of leg or hand position while riding or driving.is this not information that the public should be made aware of?yes, airbags save lives, but lives were saved by only seat belts prior to airbags.living is always better than dying, however loosing digits or suffering facial or rib cage damage, when unnecessary is uncalled for--don't you agree.these incidents have occurred over the last several years in various makes and models of vehicles, so please do not pay any attention to the incident date, year of vehicle, type of vehicle, etc., required by this form.please let me know if there is a report or information available to the general public on this matter that i am not aware of, and its location.if not, could action be taken to notify the general public?
On sunday morning i was traveling north bound on i-35 passing the i-35 & i-40 junction traveling about 60 miles per hour, when on my drivers side i noticed a white dodge neon coming over into my lane.i immediately honked horn and moved over slightly.car continued to come over into my lane so i hit my brakes which slowed me down some to about 50 miles per hour, and then my cars front end started vibrating vigorously and car went into tailspin and hit head on into center highway concrete median and then tailend swung around and also hit median on passenger side of vehicle.my airbags did not deploy and i want to investigate if they had previously deployed and were not re-installed properly.or if the vehicle manufacturer had a defect in the airbags themselves.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. While driving at approximately 35 mph, the air bag warning indicator illuminated and would not allow the arm system to activate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,742.
While stopped at a stop sign, looking left to make a right turn, my right airbag deployed and smashed windshield.

- the contact tookthe2004 chrysler sebringwith current mileage 50,084 to daimler chrysler dealership in orlando florida. The manufacturer stated that there was not a problem with the contacts vehicle because the contacts vehicle was not a part of the recall issued for this vehicle. He was having problems with the air bags, horn, front passenger window, and oil light. The contact stated that this problem was first noticed on february 1, 2007. The contact stated that the vehicle was normally driven at 45 mph.the dealership has not repaired the vehicle.the current and failure mileage was 50,084.updated 05/21/07
Dt*: the contact stated that while driving 70 mph on the highway, the vehicle was involved in a collision with the guard rail due to an obstruction in the road.the driver and the right rear seat belts failed. Plus, the passenger and driver air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed, and the vehicle was determined to be a total loss. The driver also sustained a shin injury in the accident.updated 7/18/2006 - the consumer also sustained injuries to her head, hand and neck and back muscle strain.
I am poa for james hampton owner of the vehicle, 2004 chrysler sebring convertible was involved in a headon collision , james hampton suffered serious injury , the convertible top was down at time of accident. Observing him prior to the accident in the vehicle i made the observation that he didn't appear to fit this car well, he is six foot three inches tall, top of windshield is about mid forehead in height on him, at time of incident air bag did deploy, still severe head injury to forehead on left side, observation of injury and location leads me to question that had he been under six foot in height air bag would have afforded more protection from impact of windshield, or if height of windshield was higher impact might have been different, car was determined a loss. I am concerned that consumer height, above average could possibly predispose one to more serious or fatal injury due to height of windshield relevant to area of impact.
Issue:air bags failure to deploythe car was involved in an accident during which, in my opinion, the air bags should have deployed.had they done so, the injuries suffered by the driver would not have been so severe.
Loose brakes, transmission slips, accident and airbags did not deploy it takes a long distance to stop. Brakes are not abs. 9/11 truck pulled out in front of me, stomped on brake, wheels did not lock, car did not stop rolling and i hit the vehicle. Transmission always slips, especially at 30 mph. I have been in two frontal hits and airbags did not deploy. Dealer has been told about the problem numerous times. *la
Dt:the abs brakes failed on the vehicle.she purchased the vehicle used with 19,000 miles on it.after she purchased the vehicle she noticed a grinding noise with the brakes.she took the vehicle into the dealership and had the rotors replaced because they were warped.the vehicle continued to have the grinding sound, but because they would not supply her with a loaner vehicle she did not take it in.on may 31, 2005, she was going around 40-45 miles per hour and she tried to apply the brakes when the abs failed.she skid 75 feet on dry pavement.there was a police report taken and a ticket was issued, but she is fighting the ticket because it was due to the brakes failing.none of the airbags deployed.this caused the consumer to hit her head and she has post concussion syndrome with possible seizures and is out of work.she also had bruised ribs and a neck and shoulder injury, all on the left side.the doctor has put her on complete disability and she can not even drive a vehicle at this time.she is currently on seizure medication.the vehicle is in new jersey, she was coming home from memorial day weekend in atlantic city.the damage is all on the drivers side front.the vehicle is considered totaled.
Hit on front left by another driver, damaged to the front end left tire tilt, can't open hood, my front airbags did not deploy but the other passenger's did, she was driving a ford taurus.
After being struck head on at 40 mphair bags did not deploy. Driving car down on princeton road in hamilton. Ohio reached posted speed which was 45 mph suddenly brakes locked, and consumer's vehicle rear ended an oldermodel car, cutlass supreme doing about 40 mph. Upon impact, air bags failed to deploy. No serious injuries, just aches and bruising.
Dt consumer states the seat belt buckle will break while snappinginto the latch. Consumer states the dealer s fixed the seat belt buckles twice. Also when putting on the brakes the back seat is all one piece and it will go forward and will rise up going toward the front seats. Consumer states on the passengers side the air bag cover is warped, and the dealershipstated if involved in a car accident the air bag would not deploy. Consumer stated they started noticing these problems onjanuary 16, 2005.
The contact owns a 2004 chrylser sebring. On seven occasions since she purchased the vehicle in july 2005, the air bag light was illuminated. The dealer has been unable to diagnose the failure or repair it. Chrysler advised her to have it diagnosed by another dealer. In september 2005, the dealer stated that the code was cleared and no repair at present was needed.one week after the the vehicle was diagnosed, the air bag light was illuminated. One month later, the dealer also stated that they performed a brb test, restored the code, checked the wiring and seat belt pretention. The air bag light continued to illuminate and the dealers stated that the contact complained about the light and they replaced the air bag control module. On july 16, 2007, the dealer stated that there were no codes and the vehicle was operating to factory specifications. The air bag light continued to illuminate and the manufacturer advised her to have the vehicle diagnosed at her expense; however, the contact stated that after seven attempts she doesn't feel the need to have it diagnosed due to the safety risk involved, it needs to be repaired. The fuel system was not available. The failure mileage was 24237 and the current mileage was 42000.
Dt*:the contact stated at various speeds the vehicle stalled, but restarted each time.the dealership determined the engine had sludge in it and needed to be replaced.also, the seat belt on driver's side sticks, and the airbag light stays on. Taken several times to the dealer to be fixed, but it was never fixed. Updated on 06/07/2006.
I purchased this car new as a christmas gift for my wife in 2004. She had informed me a couple of times prior to the reported date that she'd experienced the car failing to start when she turned the switch. She stated when she turned the ignition to start the car nothing would happen-- the car would just be silent. After returning the key to the start position again and attempting to start it--the car would start. It has also happened to me on a few occasions. The problem was never located. We just continue to use it as is.over the years we have experienced other electrical related issues-- none having bee resolved. First the car lighters stopped working. I had them replaced several times but they continued to short out. The fuse (under the dash for the lighters) just blows out (literally tosses out) any fuse you put in it. So it too is no longer in use. We have a problem with a tail light that keeps blowing out. We keep replacing it because it only last about three months at a time. Meanwhile the other tail light has never had to be replaced-- it works just fine! the sun has now now warped the dash board and it has began to buckle. It's a 2004 not a 1954!i've never seen a car with these numerous problems. We have a 1996 honda civic it looks good, runs great, and is all original, and we've cared for it just as we do this sebring. What's the deal with this piece of junk??? that's why most people no longer buy american cars anymore... They are poorly made. We'd like to get a new car; but are nearing our retirement years and do not need the debt.
Electrical and engine problemsdefective engine caused car to cut off intermittently.
Consumer complained about anelectrical system problem.vehicle caught on fire and burned the wiring. Also, transmission experiencedproblems, such as down shifting. While driving automatic transmission would go into a lower gear and remain their for an extensive period of time.
I can remember all of the dates that these problems occurred but, i did have automobile insurance and they did have a tote truck to take my car to a body shop.this been repaired some time three to four time a year.i keep going to get this repaired.i bought two cars same make and model and everything on both cars been repaired and its not because of an automobile incident its because of the barron been coming aparts. I have bought a new motor on both cars.i have had nothing but. Problems with this car the same problems with both cars.i am so afraid of these cars because i bought them new and i know i bought a new engine.

After driving car and leaving it parked for 2 days; when going to start it again, the horn didn't work properly (really weak!), and it wouldn't start until several attempts and giving it gas.also......the rear right side window defrost (wire harness that is soldered to window)popped off the window without reason.when repaired at dealership, the guy said it was the 3rd one he had fixed recently and it was always on the same side of the vehicle.this could cause window to fog up.also approximately jan of 2005 i went in to a dealership because a strange noise was coming from my rear left suspension/wheel.it made squealing/grinding noise when turning or over bumps.they couldn't find the problem......suggested to get rotor turned.....maybe it did help!
Purchased the 2004 chrysler sebring in november of 04. Have had an electrical issue since the purchase. While driving the dash board lights will flicker on and off, the radio will make a poping noise, and the car will stall out. Has down this numerous time while driving down the interstate. Dealership has replaced the battery, reformatted the main computer and still has not solved the problem.
Air conditioner stops working.
While driving 55 mphvehicle stalled. Without warning.driver restarted the vehicle, and took it to the dealer for inspection.howevwe, mechanic couldnot duplicate the problem.
Cuts off when idle or moving at low speeds, irradically jerks when stopping or pulling off, smell of gas. I took my car to the dealer on three separate occasions. The first time they made me pay for fuel injectors. The second time they relearned the computer. The third time they said they could not find anything wrong.not once did they say anything about the recall and i have still not received notification of the recalls.
My 2004 chrysler sebring lt stalled out on me in the middle of in intersection in a left turn lane. Could not get car restarted immediately and was in heavy traffic. Once i had restarted the vehicle i moved over to the shoulder where it happened again, and this also happened in a parking lot. This is dangerous. If stall would have happened 2 seconds later i would've been t-boned by a pickup truck. Upon stall the car engaged the e-brake and also lit up the following warning lights : engaged ebrake, oil, battery, andengine.
On 2/25/04 had electical problem dealership confirmed and said nothing to fix, on 3/13/04 driving on freeway car had no power all electrical system shut down now dealership replacing cluster & battery cause gauges not working but unable to detect what caused electrical system to shut downi fear for my life.
While driving down the road, my radio would produce a loud popping noise and then the display would go blank.my odometer would begin blinking and the rest of the guages would go down.my car stalled and i had to restart it.the first time this happened, i took it to the dealership and they found nothing wrong.the second time, they replaced my battery.the third time, nothing wrong.the fourth time, they reformatted the computer in the car.the fifth time nothing found.today was the sixth time and it is still at the dealership.i'm beginning to fear for my family's safety because it is stalling while driving.this has become extremely frustrating because they haven't been able to duplicate the problems at the dealership.
Vehicle failed emission inspection.vehicle computer will not reset. Dealers insist that the vehicle must be driven over 400 miles for the computer to reset. Vehicle was driven the recommended distances and the computer failed to reset. When the vehicle was taken back to the dealers they ask for the vehicle to be driven for an additional 400 miles. At the cost of fuel, tolls, and time spent on the road, the emission inspection is costing a fortune fro vehicle that is only four years old. The computer is under warranty but it seems like dealers don't want to honor the warranties due to the replacement cost.
Air bag light on dash is on. Meaning air bag is not operational.

Horn is not functioning properly.it has been in to the dealership approx. 4 times for this problem, and it still does not work.it appears to be some kind of electrical short or malfunction.the horn does not work properly to be used as a safety device.this has potential to have dire consequences.
When drivinghorn will not blow. When the vehicle was not in motion, the horn blew in 2 second intervals. Consumer contacted the dealer and the manufacturer, and neither was willing to assist the consumer.they told consumer that the problem was being worked on.

My vehicle in may 2006 starting showing signs of ignition failure. My check engine light remains on while i am driving the vehicle.when i attempt to turn off vehicle off,it remains on for at least 15 minutes or longer until i can get it to turn off w/o the key in the ignition.this means my car is drivable w/o a key in the ignition. This car started having problems at 29,000 miles.the hood of the vehicle gets extremely hot. According to the recall reports which states that a break in molding in the fuel pump can lead to ignition failure which is a safety hazard and can cause a fire. My car has been in the shop 3x in less than 5 months. Ancira jeep chrysler has failed to fix this problem and has continued to charge me for a fuel pump, cam sensor, and ignition. I picked up my car from the dealership just a few days ago and not even 10 min later when i got home the problem was still occuring but worse. My car is in the shop as we speak and i have yet to hear feedback unless i call; even then, they can't give me an answer. The service advisor called me to ask me how to turn my car off, there is a huge problem when a certified dealership w/mechanics is asking their customer how to fix their car. I should not have to pay at all, this is a defective product and the service and qualityi have recieved is unacceptable. I was not provide transportation for there errors and i am relying on others for transportation.

Dt*:the contact stated there was a burning smell coming from the inside of the vehicle.the next day the vehicle caught on fire.the fire department was called and filed a report.upon inspection the insurance company determined the electrical wiring in the rear defroster caused the fire.previously, the vehicle was taken in for repair because the rear defroster, turn signals and the windshield wipers had failed.
Intermittently while driving vehicle hesitated when accelerating or stalling.vehicle was taken to2 dealerships, in which the second dealership, found loose wiring in the engine compartment. The wires were tightened, but the failure recurred.
While driving on the highway dashboard lights flickered on and off.vehicle was taken to the dealer, who told the consumer to come back once the lights stayed completely off.
Electrical and engine problemsdefective engine caused car to cut off intermittently.
For the past few months, my car has been stalling while waiting at a stop sign and while running smoothly on the highway will suddenly skip and miss.i attributed this to "bad gasoline" or as my father would say, air in the line.i finally took the car to an automotive shop and he was unable to find the problem and advised me to take it to a chrysler dealer to check for idle quality on their computer. I took the car to the local vero beach chrysler dealer yesterday and was told they could find nothing wrong.when i was leaving, the young woman advisor told me to call aaa if it happened again, even though i told her i had no trouble restarting the car.something is very wrong here!

I recently saw that you are investigating chryslers for stalling while driving. I had this happen to me on several occasions in my 2004 chrysler sebring convertible. I have since sold it. I took it in and reported this to the dealer over 3 times to which they said they found nothing wrong. Once time it stalled in the middle of an intersection while the light was changing. I was in constant fear of it stalling while driving. Another time it stalled while i was going 15 miles per hour. It must have happened at least once a month. It often happened after refueling. I can provide you with the vin. I both purchased the car and took it here with complaints on several occasions to:dadeland dodge chrysler jeepmore 16501 south dixie highwaymiami, fl 33157(305) 278-9994

Engine seized up while driving it.i was on the parkway and this put me in a very dangerous situation.no lights or warning at all....car was well maintained and oil changed every 3,000 miles.sludge build up in engine and i was advised this was a defect on these engines.i was advised by the mechanic that changing the oil regularly would not of prevented the build up, this is a defect and is happening to these engines.

I was driving down the road coming to a stop light when i noticed my car had just turned off without warning. Luckilythere was a turn lane and the light was red so i didn'tcause any accident. After that i took my car to see why the engine light came on and the mechanic said the code stated it had to do with the oxygen sensor. I replacedthe part and the car ran ok until another time i was stopped at a light and the car turned off again. I've noticed the engine light comes on and then goes off after a couple of days. I was told i probably need to replace the intake manifold gasket which i bought but haven'treplaced because someone told me about the recall of other sebrings that had the same problem. The car was running fine and the engine light had gone off and then it happened again with no warning. I looked upand saw there have been other same complaints of the engine stalling as one is driving. The code given was h07. I am disabled and cannot afford to take a risk to drive down the road and this happen again. Please let me know where i should take my carto have the defective part replaced. I am also having problems with the driver side window coming off track and going through the rubber and i am afraid the window will shatter because it won't stop going up. I greatly appreciate any help you can give. Thank you
I purchased my car in nov 2005 and on several occasions the car has stalled on me i started the car back up immediately.on other occasions the engine would rev up while sitting at a red light or either in a drive thru lane at a restaurant.the car was not in park it scared me to death.i don't know the reason for this.the car isn't under warranty any longer and i know the wont fix it problem.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. The contact was accelerating from a stop when the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning the contact then coasted to the side of the street and tried to restart the vehicle but to no avail.the vehicle was then towed to a dealer and they advised him that he needed to replace the oil pump, the cam shaft, and additional valves. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was approximately 131,000.
Car has 5500 miles on it and has stalled three times under different circumstances. It has lunged forward on two separated occasions along with idling rough at times. I am picking it up at dealer this afternoon for the above problems. They have reset the computer. I will keep you posted.after reading this site i am worried about my safety and the safety of others. *la
I want to get as much information as early as possible.on the way to town, my car stalled at a stop light.started it, stalled again, restarted and now i can hear a loud knocking(the rod)i eased it in to the local grocery store, where the knocking persisted.i then went towards home, got on to my road and called my father in law and we decided to push it in to the driveway.i called the local chrysler dealerships (2) and the first words out of their mouths was, "as long as we don't find any sludge, this will be covered under warranty."in researching the engine on the internet, there are something like 1500 or more complaints regarding chrysler not fixing this car, on cars that are under their warranty.they are denying under the "guise" that the owners are not maintaining their vehicles.this is pure hogwash, because this issue is a manufacturer defect and has been present since models back to 1999.it is embarrassing that a car manufacturer is so cheap that they can not admit their mistake, cover it under the warranty and just be done with it.i had my 4 year old daughter in the car, i am glad that i did not have a total engine failure and end up in the ditch or rear ended like many others i have read about.when it stalled, luckily the people behind me realized that i was having an issue and got over to the other lane quick enough, they only honked their horn at me, as to which my daughter wanted to know why.chrysler should be forced to take care of these issues.there are several other major car manufacturers, audi, toyota, that have had similar sludge issues and they have stepped up andstarted engine replacement, and/or repair programs to take care of their mistakes.everyone in the united states needs to hear about this, to avoid buying this terrible engine and the sleepless nights.for the safety of all of us driving a vehicle with a 2.7l engine and for all of our families, please do something about this terrible injustice.
Air conditioner stops working.
This is my second complaint filed on this website. My car has been placed in the repair shop at least 3 time for the same problem with no resolution. Car stalled again on 2/22/09 and 2/24/09.
2002 chrysler sebring , the car was found with sludge in the engine. Oil changes were done every 7500 miles with the eception of the first which was at 4800 miles. The dealer changed the first one but was told not to bring the car in until every 7500 miles . The next two oil changes were done at the dealership at 13454 and 20932. The next two was done by the customer at 26532 and 33750. The last one was done at the dealership at 41258 and then the car at 46819 was taken back to the dealer for a knocking sound and car not being able to go past 35 miles an hour.dealer blames customer.after customer investagation he found serveral complaints on the internet with the same "sludge in the engine". This sludge was due to small oil flow passageway causing the oil to heat up to a high enough temperature to form into sludge. This causingno oil in the car withoil light never coming on and the sludge clogging the filter causing oil starvation to the engine.dealer acusing customer of not changing the oil the two times since he only has it written in a calendar book. Customer has two other vehicles with 180,000 miles and 100,000 miles that he changes the oil in and they run perfectly fine. In fact the 180,000 mile car always ranpowerfulthan thesebring with less miles. Warrenty denies claim and blames customer for the sludge in the engine.what is the truth behind the sludge in the engine ? is their a defect in the engine? did the dealership change the oil at 41,258 miles?.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, a popping noise emitted from the engine. The contact inspected the engine and noticed that the radiator overflow tank was punctured and spilling coolant over the engine. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic, where the mechanic replaced the radiator overflow tank and gasket for the upper intake valve. The failure mileage was 73,737.
The problem begins in this order of occurrence:i can immediately feel a drag like the engine is working really hard. The tachometer goes up to 3 or 3.5.shortly thereafteri feel a strong vibration and i can't pick up speed. The car starts bucking. It just feels like i am braking and accelerating at the same time.the tachometer starts fluctuating from 1 to 3 and sometimes up to 4. The dashboard lights start to flicker.i start losing power and begin to decelerate rapidly and the speedometer drops to about 10 mph within a few seconds. Trying to accelerate does nothing except make it buck even more.there were two times when a was almost rear ended, once when i was doing 55 and suddenly lost power and the car behind me had to avoid hitting me by going off the side of the road and another time while accelerating in the process of making a left turn on a green arrow, the car lost power and 3 cars behind me had to slam on their brakes and swerve out of the way. Everyone was apparently paying attention both times so there were no collisions, or damage to anyone's vehicle.this problem is completely intermittent.updated
I have a 2004 chrysler sebring.for 1 year beginning in october 2006, i had a check engine light that would come on and off intermittently.i was unable to bring it to the dealer because it was over the warranty mileage.i have had stalling problems, when i would apply the brakes the cra would either stall or jerk forward.on july 26, 2008, i had to have the tie rods replaced.since i had the vehicle i also had to have a bearing replaced.i do a lot of highway driving, but, have had vehicles in the past that never had these problems.when i had the tie rods replaced (at sts), they also checked on the stalling.the only thing they were able to find was "dirty throttle plates" which did not fix the situation.i have done a lot of research on my vehicle and discovered that these problems are common with my model, year, and vin number.this is one reference i used:http://www.lemonlawclaims.com/2004_chrysler_sebring_and_engine%20failure.htm.
When coming to a stop vehiclestalled.consumer was able to restart the vehicle, and drove it home. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
My car has cut off on me 4 times in the past 2 months. It seems to happen every 2-3 weeks, when i come to a full stop.also, when my foot is on the brake, the car will vibrate violently and then lunge forward by a foot or so.i have almost hit cars in front of me because of this.this has happened 4 times as well. I've gotten my catalytic converter checked- no problem, i've gotten radiator and transmission checked- all fine.i've had an a/c flush, transmission flush, and air induction/.fuel system cleaned out. Everyone says that the car is fine, and i've had half a dozen mechanics check everything out.no one can find a problem. And a new thing happened, just the other day, when i had started my car up for the first time in the day, the car didn't want to shift above 30 miles.the rpms were really high, but i was at 30 mph. The mechanics can't find anything wrong with it at all. I saw a posting on another website where someone had the same problems, but no one could find the problem.june 23rd is the first day that these things started happening.
Vehicle stalled intermittently.dealer could not duplicate the problem. Manufacturer contacted dealership about several other vehicles withsame year, make, and model, whereby the same problem existed.........vehicle since acknowledged by chrysler under lemon law, and in process of repurchasing. Two subsequent chrysler sebring returne dto dealer for same stalling problem.
Dt vehicle has stalled twice, called to make an appointment to bring the vehicle in by that time it had overheated. Tookvehicle to the dealer, they said thermostat was bad, and they replaced it.then it did it again.called a tow truck, they took vehicle to the dealer. Tthey needed to bleed the line. Got the vehicle back and the engine light came .currently, was making funny sounds. In the book it said if the light was on it could be engine problems. The vehicle is at dealer.
When theair conditioneris on and the brakes are applied engine revs high. It is an intermittent, butdangerous problem.driver has to put the vehicle into neutral to avoid an accident. Consumer almost crushed some pedestrians against the cross traffic. This failure occurred three to four times in four days.*ph
The motor in my 2004 sebring failed on my way to work one morning almost a month ago. I took it to the dealer who immediately asked me about oil changes. I said that i didn't have any receipts but could find them at home if necessary. 4 days later they wanted the receipts. I faxed them over and they said they were not sufficient and that i would have to pay $7000 for a new motor because they would not fix it under the warranty. They said that there was sludge in the motor and it had to be replaced along with the timing chain. They said that the receipts i had sent them were not in the proper format and they would not accept them. I told them that those were the receipts i was given by a licensed garage in the state of nevada and they could take it up with them. They called the garage and wanted them to submit new receipts in a different format. According to the garage they were very rude and condescending and the garage agreed to give them new receipts. The new receipts were faxed over and after 4 days when i did not hear from the dealer i called them and they said they never got the new receipts. I asked why they didn't call me and they said that it was not their job to track down my receipts. I called the garage and they faxed them again and this time it took the dealer 3 days to acknowledge receipt of them. They said that everything was in order and someone from chrysler would be out to look at it. 3 days later they called again and said they would not fix it under warranty because the oil filter in the car did not match the receipts. I now have a 2004 sebring with 41,000 miles on it (it had 22,000 when i bought it last year) that needs a $7000 motor. The dealer will not give me any satisfaction and i have called chrysler 4 times and they don't care.
1) parking gear gets stuck in gear and will not come out of gear at times. 2) even when car in park the key will not come out or go into the access key mode.3) car cuts off at the spare of the moment with no notice and no indication why.
Dt:consumer owned a 2004 chrysler sebring touring.vehicle was cutting off without warning. Consumer's vehicle was at cross walk at queens chapel road and ager road whenconsumer was forced to slam brakes to stop due to the vehicle in front stopping quickly. Vehicle stalled and would not start when tryingto start it. Consumer turnedhazard lights on to keep from getting hit in the rear, she waited a minute then tried to start vehicle again.vehicle started and shook real hard, thenwas able to pull away and drive home. This happenedon july 28, 2005 at about 7:40 pm. Vehicle stalled9 times.dealer ran a diagnostic check and could not find anything wrong. This was the last time vehicle stalled.vehicle stalled three times today, and consumer was worried that vehicle was not safe.
Engine was leaking some type of red fluid. Turned out to be transmission fluid, paperwork said replaced trans hoses, clamps, and solenoid pack (2/6/07).blower motor only worked on highest setting, the replaced the bad blower motor for heat/cooling(10/17/06). Replaced resonator pipe and muffler after noticing acceleration was sluggish and loud (3/22/06).
I bought my used touring model sebring in may of 2011, and since then it has repeatedly jumped or leaped forward when coming to a stop or idling, even with my foot on the brake. I have almost caused a few accidents by ramming the car in front of me at a stop light and such. As well, it stalled out on me when i made a complete stop on 10/11/11. I have seen many, many of the same complaints and wish i knew what the issue was. Will be taking it into the repair shop tomorrow.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring.while driving approximately 30 mph onnormal road conditions proceeding to make a turn;suddenly, the engine stalled without warning.the driver was able to restart the engine and resume operation.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing; however, the technician was unable to duplicate the failure.the vehicle also intermittently exhibited unintended acceleration.the contact had concerns of the safety risk involved.the failure mileage was 90 and the current mileage was 30,000.
Dt*: the contact stated the engine developed sludge causing the engine to die.the service dealer determined the contact must not have changed the oil often enough.the contact stated the oil was changed every 3000 miles.
Dt: the contact statedtransmissionfailed after owningthe car for one year. Shecalled the dealer and the manufacturer ,and because she didnot have a warranty, no one will do anything about it.the cooling system malfunctionedshortly after she bought the car. Then, thefollowing year, the engine went out. The labor will be $2,000 and the parts will cost$5,000.00. When she bought the car it had 28,838 miles on it.currently, ithas 51,488 miles on it.
I have a 2004 sebring with an intermittent problem with engine surging, dying, reving up while driving at slow speeds. The dealer has tried several fixes without solving the problem, they can't duplicate the concern so they say there is no problem. I have found 19 complaints on this website that share the same concern. If you have one of these problem cars, lets compare notes. [email protected].
I had a problem with my thermostat overheating in 2007. The car was only a little over two years old. I purchased the car brand new in 2004 and started having problems with it two years later. Then the engine had a tapping noise in it and the car started going down hill after that point.
The contact owns a 2004 chrylser sebring. The contact stated while driving 25 mph the warning light illuminated indicating the vehicle was overheating. The vehicle was driven to a mechanic who replaced a heating element. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and gave her the nhtsa number to file a complaint but offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 86,700. Updated 9/13/11 updated 10/28/11
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle built sludge in the engine and caused the engine to fail permanently.the service dealer determined the vehicle had sludge built up when looking at a different issue and on the way home from the dealer the engine died.
Wife was driving car when vehicle stalled/stopped when came to complete stop.engine restarted, but now afraid to drive only has 350 miles.
2004 chrysler sebring stalls and jumps forward when foot is on brake. Then it cuts off.

Engine ceased while stopped at stop light. Vehicle had to be pushed out of the way. Later found engine failed do to sludge in the engine.
Thermostat fail 2004 chrysler sebring.
I have had recurring problems with the engine stalling when the engine is hot.after driving for some time on an interstate, the car will stall when taken down to a lower speed- like getting off the exit ramp, or just braking to slow down for traffic.this has happened no less than 20 times in the last year.i have been fortunate to not have an accident- the car just stalls in the middle of traffic on the highway, exit ramp, or intersection.i have taken it to the dealer 3 times for the problem, and they say they cannot recreate the problem and just reset the engine timing, etc.it has happened as recently as this week.i have just read at least 24 similar complaints on this site- i had no idea it was common.the dealers should have a remedy for this by now. I am scared someone will plow into me. This is my fifth sebring convertible and now i will never buy another one.
Car kept stalling and just died one morning. A passerby stopped to help me and said the oil was low. I put oil in it and headed to the dealer. The dealer asked for receipts to prove i had oil changes over the past year so the work would be covered under the warranty. I provided receipts and was told by the dealer that the receipts were unacceptable because the garage that did the oil changes did not use the proper format on their receipts. Chrysler wanted me to pay $6950 for a new engine. My mechanic then faxed over receipts that would be acceptable to the dealer and because the receipt said that i had a fram oil filter put in the car and there was still a factory oil filter in it they would not replace the motor under the warranty. They said the engine was full of sludge and would need to be replaced along with the timing belt and heads.
Engine idles rough and often stalls... Vehicle was taken to two different service dealerships... The oxygen sensor was changed 1st....then the plenum gasket and tsb 18-041-03 was ran.....vehicle still stalls and continues to idle rough like many others that have perfomed a complaint....anybody want to compare notes e-mail [email protected].
2004 chrysler sebring touring 20000 miles. When car is stopped with foot on brake car jumps forward forno reason like some one had put their foot on the gas this has happen couple times took it to the dealer.he found a service bulletin and was going to do it when i take it back. But after reading it seems like there is a lot of people with thisproblem there should be recall before some one is killed!!!! also when in traction control it makes a terrible noise like the brakes grinding on the rotors when the wheels are spinning dealer not sure what is wrong and is going to look into it.
Car acts as if it will cut off when at a complete stop.
Since purchasing our 2004 chrysler sebring (touring) new off the dealer's lot in the summer of 2004, we have experienced several cases of sudden and unexplained stalling.the problem seems to happen most often when we come to a stop during highway driving.the car usually sputters a few seconds before stalling.i then have to put the car in park, turn off the ignition and then turn the keys back.this has resulted in several near-misses because cars approaching from behind do not realize my vehicle is dead.over the past two years, we have experienced about 15 to 20 stalling incidents.after the first few cases, we took the car to the chrysler dealership and they could not replicate the stalling and could not find any fault codes or obvious defects.we have contacted the dealership several times since our visit to see if chrysler has issued any updates on the apparent manufacturing issue.so far, we have not received any advice on what to do about the problem.
Engine failure.
2004 chrysler sebring touring sedan with a 2.7l engine shuts off when car is decelerating.the car started malfunctioning with about 35,000 miles on it, it now has about 69,000 miles.the problem was intermittent, but now it happens more frequently.i have had it checked out but the technician could not figure it out nor are there any codes associated with the problem.please help.thanks, jimmy l. Atkins, jr.
Engine died intermittently. Once when the engine died vehicle rolled backwards, and almost hit another vehicle.
Driving our car in chicago and we live in ohio.stop at a light and the car starts making this loud noise.get the car to my sisters (thankfully).had to rent a trailer to get the car home.brought it to the mechanic who said the engine failed due to sludge.oil was changed 3 days before.engine could not be rebuilt.contacted chrysler and they told me there was nothing they could do.this is a faulty engine and chrysler should stand behind there product.
I bought the car in august of 06'.it's an 04' chrysler sebring.the [xxx] car started stalling and stopping when i came to a stop.it dies on me at least once a day now.it finally stopped while driving today in the middle of traffic on a highway.it scares me.i read on auto beef (which is where i found you) of other complaints frommany other people with the exact same problem.the dealerships and other mechanics cannot seem to find out what it is.i took my car to the dealership today and they ran a test and found nothing wrong with it.the same problem everyone else is having.i don't get it.i don't know what else to do....please help!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
2.7l v6 engine failure in our 2004 sebring with 48,300 miles.the engine failed while driving, had to have the car towed and find a way back home 30 miles away.the dealership states the cause as oil sludge will not cover under 7 yr/70000 mile warranty.we complained that the car was not acting right on 3-26-06 and was told nothing wrong.
Vehicle stalls/slows downwithout incident when the driver is coming to a stop sign or traffic light, causing hazardous driving situations.
Bought a used 2004 chrysler sebring touring.noticed 1000kms later that the engine sounded rough.saw the oil was black.took the car for an oil change.car was fine for awhile.about 1000km later problems arose.yet another oil change was need for black oil.this continued for months.i was just about to make the switch to synthetic oil when my car gave out on me.mechanic said he thought exhaust was getting into the engine b/c of poor internals, said his cousin had the same problem.p.s. Car gave out on the 401 thank god it was 1 am!

Follow up to odi #10064593. Vehicle continues to accelerate unexpectedly while sitting at a stop. Has also stalled on three occasions and idles rough. It has been to two (2) dealerships 8 times. Tcp sensor, ad solenoid, map sensor and pcv valve all been replaced. Service bulletin #18-041-03 has been ran twice. The vehicle has almost hit two cars, one motorcycle, one concrete piling and two buildings. The only thing that has kept me from hitting anything is the fact that i always have my foot on the brake. Why won't chrysler or the nhtsa begin an investigation? i have found over a dozen complaints regarding chrysler/jeep vehicles with the same dangerous malfunction. I love my car, but i am afraid someone is going to get hurt.
Wetook our vehicle for yearly inspection and our mechanic said that our 2004 chrysler sebring, with approximately 32,000 miles had a cracked resonator cap. He has already seen one sebring with 29,000 miles with the same problem and recommended to us to call the dealership.the warranty had expired in june and they said that it would not be covered.

While driving on the interstate at 70 mph headlight and the fog light went out without warning.consumer pulled off the interstate. Consumer had to follow another motorist to a hotel because she couldn't see to travel.
Headlights and brake lights turn off. Dealer states that the multi-function switch is defective and needs replacing. Google search has several similar complaints in forums by other chrysler owners. A few stating that they flash on an off while they are driving at night. The dealer tapped the part for me and they turn on...tap again...they turn off.the dealer charges 300 to replace this part. Are they replacing it with another part that will go defective or have they fixed the root cause of the problem. This is a huge safety issue. Our headlights should be reliable...

Within the first week after purchasing a 2004 sebring convertible limited, the problem of the engine almost dying or dying started.this problem occurs more often at higher ambient temperatures.when coming to a stop the engine drops down to 200-250 rpm.when it recovers it overshoots the low idle speed causing the car to lunge forward.several times the engine has died.the engine will restart immediately.one day as i was going through a green light a car turned right in front of me.i had to make a panic stop in the middle of the intersection and the engine died.i almost got rear-ended because the cars behind me were not expecting me to have to restart the engine. Your web site defines this as a safety issue because the driver has an unexpected event that puts the driver in a situation where the driver cannot safely control the vehicle.after starting the car and backing out of the garage the engine is running like a sewing machine.suddenly the engine begins to run rough.it reminds me of the days of carburetor cars when the choke was stuck on.suddenly it starts running like a sewing machine.most mornings, but not everyday, after backing out of the garage and putting the car in drive then accelerating the car will stumble 1-4 times.the engine speed begins to come up and then stops accelerating, then suddenly accelerates again.this only happens shortly after the engine has been started.once the engine warms up this problem will not happen.continued 1 of 3the consumer believed the fuel drains back to the tank when the vehicle sits overnight. After the vehicle is started the fuel system is not properly pressurized for a short period of time, which could be a result of a defective componet.

I purchased my 2004 sebring at shellby chrysler jeep\eagle dealership. Just a few short months later ,my car started just cutting off. Then it started jumping forward while i had my foot on the brake almost causing me to get hit in several intersections. I took my car in more than 7 times to be told that they could not find a problem because the check engine light did not come on therefore it would not pull a code. Meanwhile, i have to take it back for a leak somewhere. This happened twice. Now 2 years later just as my warranty has ran out, the car starts cutting off and leaving me stranded. I had to have towed to the dealership only for the service department to smart off at ma and tell me that it was out of gas. I knew this was not true because the first time this happened the first thing i did was try to put gas in it. Also, when i was having trouble only a few months after i bought the car that something was wrong with the gas gauge, but of course, they could not find a problem. The car cut off again and i took it back, asked them to check the gas gauge and then was told the sending unit in the gas tank was bad,now that its out of warranty and i have to pay over 700.00 for the part to be replaced. Oh yeah, and the paint is peeling off!

The fuel line leading from the firewall area to the fuel distribution rail leaking allowing pressurized fuel to spray in the engine compartment.this was not noticed at highway speeds but was detected by the odor after shutting car off.chrysler has not been able to get me the correct part to repair and so an aftermarket part was used to return the vehicle to service temporarily.
2004 chrysler sebring convertible, 29,500 miles. Engine running rough. Engine light would go on periodically then go off. Took to dealer. Did diagnostics, charge $84.00. Found cracked resonator pipe, replaced, no charge. Cylinders 3 & 5 misfiring. Dealer tells me that they need to take out the fuel injectors to clean, charge would be $234.00. So much for 3 years, 36,000 mile warranty. I have never taken any car in for the injectors to be taken out and cleaned. I replace the spark plugs my self and put in injector cleaner in the gas. Car is running better but still misfires on occasion. So much for american cars and the workmanship. This is the last chrysler product i'll ever lease. Called and complained to dealer. He tells me who do you think will pay for the diagnostics? obviously, not them. Call daimler-chrysler in detriot. Too bad, not listed under warranty. The dealer in cleveland ohio was crestmont chrysler for those interested. Don't buy there!!!!i would assume that if the engine light comes on, there is a problem and being under mileage and the 3 years, this would be taken care of.
My car, 2004 sebring sedan with 19,000 has had a surging problem for several months. As i,m coming to a stop, with my foot on the brake, the car will surge forward as if i was giving it gas. On 10/28/04, i've had the car examined coon rapids chrysler dealership mechanics and was told they found nothing wrong with it outside of misfires in three cylinders. They said they road tested the car and did not experience what i experience every day during every stop. I was told they reset the pcm as this is what manufacturer recomends. When i left the dealership,i experienced the same surging from the very first stop and all the other stops during the fifteen mile drive home.nextweek i'll take it to another dealer and see if they can fix this. I've noticedthat mycarstats.com has numerous complaints regarding this problem and the dealers/manufacturer appears to not dealing with it.i've come very close to rear-ending cars during my travels. I expect the surge and prepare for it but there has to be a fix.
Recall campaign 04v313000, after driving the vehicle a short distance consumer smelled gas, pulled into a gas station, and there was gas leaking out the vehicle. Dealerrepaired the fuel line.thiswas the second occurrence.
I heard a pop the a lot of smoke came in the car, i pulled over and popped the hood and there was a fire by the firewall, the fuel rln had caught fire.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that there were strong fumes of fuel coming from outside the vehicle and a puddle underneath the vehicle.the contact was unable to determine where the fluid originated. An independent mechanic inspected the fuel tank, which was removed, and determined that there was a fire near where the return line entered into the fuel tank. The components were internally burned and needed to be replaced. The mechanic replaced the fuel tank assembly. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 04v313000 (fuel system, gasoline) and 03v443000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that whenever driving between 10-20 mph, the vehicle would jerk or hesitate abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they advised the contact that there were two recalls for the failure under nhtsa campaign id numbers: 04v313000(fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings) and nhtsa campaign id number: 03v443000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump), but the contact's vehicle was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and also stated that the vehicle was not included in the recalls. The failure mileage was 59,000.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring.the contact stated that the driver's side front door lock is inoperative, preventing him from opening the door from inside the passenger compartment.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer for repair; however, the part is on back order.the contact has to wait 6-8 weeks to have the vehicle repaired.the manufacturer did not provide any assistance.the failure and current mileages were 38,000.
Interior door handles have an aluminum tape or sheet over them, and is coming off on the edges, leaving a razor sharp edge that several people have sliced their hands on.i don't see anything in the recalls, but wonder if you have received similar complaints.any suggestions how to remedy the situation?thank you.
Air bag lights come on while driving down the road.driver side door does not close properly.chrysler has not repaired because they claim they can't find problem.
Vehicle was vandalized.the thief broke into the vehicle by pulling up on the handle of the automobile and using some tool to pop open the lock.they stole over $130 worth of cds.cell phone equipment and irs papers that contained my social security number.
I have a 2004 chrysler sebring with a 2.7l v6 engine. The potentially dangerous problem which has come up numerous times is the engine rpm will surge causing the car to lurch forward. The problem occurs when coming to a stop - the engine rpm will drop to the point where the engine will almost stall, then surge excessivelycausing the car to lurch forward. This surge of rpms has caused me to almost hit cars in front of me and worse, sending me into an intersection with oncoming cars.i have called about this issue and brought my car in to have this issue examined - the only thing that was does was to reprogram the transmission pcm. I do see that this is a fairly common problem with other owners.
For approximately 2 weeks, my 2004 chrysler sebring has been having what i consider to be a huge safety issue. When the car is placed into reverse to back up, then shifted into drive and the gas pedal pressed, the car continues to travel in reverse. I placed the car in park, then shifted to drive. The car continued to travel in reverse. Again, shifted to park and back to drive. The car the drifted forward while the engine sounded like it was revving. I continued to shift from park to drive numerous times, and the car continued to drift and make the revving sounds. For the past 2 days, i have shifted from reverse to drive and have to stomp on the gas pedal, at which point the engine seems to lurch into gear and then drives fine. And when i say stomp on the gas pedal, i mean stomp - hard.
I purchased my sebring touring fall 2005.since my purchased i have noticed that there is a vibration (the car kind of shakes) between the speeds of 30 mph and 45 mph.once it shifts again (automatic transmission) it stops.
I bought the car used at in 2005 with 23k miles. After about a month we noticed a hard shift problem between 1st and 2nd mainly. We took the car in for repairs several time but the dealer claimed they couldn't find a problem. Finally they acknowledged the problem and did a partial rebuild on the transmission. After about two weeks the problem resurfaced and the dealers still could not find the problem. I tried a different dealer just after the car hit 36k and they also claimed no problem and charged me for the service since it was just out of warranty. The driving lights also quit just after the warranty ran out. At this point i'm just living with the problem because the dealers can't seem to find the problem.

*la
Transmission was replaced after only 1,000 miles.also, vehicle experienced intermittent power surges. Consumer contacted the dealer, and dealer could not duplicate the problem. Then, dealer stated no problem, good-bye.consumer was extremely upset.
My 2004 sebring has been taken to the dealership on a number of occasions. Tomorrow 8/23/05 will be my fourth or fifth attempt to resolve the on going problem of my car surging forward while at idle/coming to a stop or while setting at a light hold the brake. The car stalled while crossing traffic. The car shakes as if the engine is about to rock out of it. It miss-fires on a regular bases. The last time i took the car in they told me it was the spark plugs this was 6/23/05.
Purchased 4 door chrysler sebring sedan (4 cylinderat mcdonnough chrylser of east brunswick, nj 7/9/04 w/ 13 miles.2 days following the purchase, car stalled at approximately 42 mph on a crowded interstate, and started right back up.drove to dealer to find that i needed a computer software update.took the vehicle back, idling rough, rpms jumping all over the place.several weeks later, vehicle stalled again this time on nj turnpike while slowing down, but not before surging forward, my foot was not on the accelerator, and again started right back up.returned to dealer @ 994 mi, nothing registered on diagnostic check, another cpu update.car still in same condition only did not stall.surging got progressively worse, finally at approximately8,000 miles car stalled countless times in the 13 mile ride to dealer, check engine light illuminated, could hardly drive the entire way.dealer found bad ignition coil, but only because the light was illuminated could they detect a problem. Dealer kept car 3 days, did not offer rental or comp car, nor transportation to my work. Picked up car, not stalling but still idling rough, steering wheel visibly shaking.car surges forward at every stoplight, i have just learned to control the brake to avoid accident, not accelerating properly & transmission slips at low speeds.why can't this problem be erradicated, this is my first brand new car, and runs as poorly as my trade in did at 230,000 miles!i need a break, and i need a solution.in addition, car makes loud whistling noise between 68-73 mph , and headlights have shut off 2 times in the middle of driving at night and flickered back on also, not tracable by dealer computer.
Dt: the contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring convertible.the vehicle has beento the repairshop to fix the transmission three times. The vehicle will buck , and the rpms will go up to 3000-4000 rpms. It will not shift out of second or third gear.it was a hazard to drive. The dealership could not do anything to correct the problem. Chrysler has been notified. Chrysler changed parts vendors to try and correct the problem . He received vehicle back yesterday, and the problem recurred. The problem first began in august 2005. And has been occurring since then. Updated 11/15/2005-
2004 sebring 4 door sedan has occasionally lunged or surged forward when stopped at a light or in traffic. This occurs while my foot has been on the brake and i hate to think of what could happen if i did not have my foot on the brake when it lunges forward. I could hit someone or something. Have had it to the dealer 3 times for this. The 2nd time i had found a service bulletin on this website describing what should be done to correct the problem.(the first time they just said they couldn't do anything because they couldn't make the problem happen)when i brought the service bulletin to them last dec 2005, they said they fixed it. It has now happened again, and is back into the dealership where i was at first told that if they couldn't make it happen, they couldn't fix it. I told them this was the 3rd time in the shop for the same issue and it is a safety issue. They are going to try replacing a throttle positioning sensor. I was reading other complaints on this website and decided it was time to write one because this is definitely happening to other people and is a safety issue. Is chrysler waiting for someone to get hurt before they find out what the problem is? someone needs to hold them accountable. It only happens occasionally so it is hard to recreate it when you bring it to the dealer, but there are many people with the same types of problems on this site.
Ongoing issue with 2004 chrysler sebring convertible (limited edition) automatic transmission "clunking when changing gears", "not engaging gear selected" and twice transmission shift to high, then lower gear resulting in vechicle surging.first time this happened it caused the car to jerk straight forward (was in a curve) toward a bridge abutment.second time the surging occured, was slowing down for a red light with a car in front of me.i barely missed hitting the car in front of me.dealer replaced transmission pump, then notified me that the shift cable was broken. It was replaced.vehicle continues all symptoms described, including new problem with clunking when shifted from park.this is new and was identified by dealer service department on 5/5/04.dealer says they can't identify the cause so repairs cannot be made.i took the car back within days of taking possession in august 2003 only to be told that it was new and needed some time to break in.
I purchased a new 2004 sebring limited convertible from egolf motors, hendersonville, nc in sept., 2003.i immediately noticed the engine idle was a problem because when the brakes are applied when slowing to stop, the engine seems to pulse or rev up and then die down to a normal idle.no accidents have occurred, but the engine has died on two occasions while idling.when the transmission shifts it is jerky and at times noisy.i have had the service manager and transmission specialist at egolf motors inspect and drive the car and their response is that it is normal for this vehicle.however, i drove another new sebring on the car lot and found the transmission to shift smoothly and the idle had none of the surging features of my car.i pointed this out to the service manager and he said my car is normal and if i could replicate what is happening then to bring the car back.i left the car over night for them to examine under cold conditions and they still said it was within normal range according to their computer analysis.granted, the idle, transmission and stalling problems are somehwhat intermittent, but i would hope their is something that can be done to fix these annoying problems.in one on-line suggestion i read that some of the problem could be caused by a faulty idle control sensor.
I have just bought a chrysler sebring 2004, and experienced some problems. I have not been to teh dealer yet for them, just wanted to conform the problem first. I did a search online and saw this website an dthe i agreed with all the complaints already on here.1). The car idles badly, and when slowing down at a light or while u have your foot on the brake, the vehicle will jump forward suddenly! i almost hit the car in front of me. This has happened twice so far. I have 128 miles on my car. After reading same complaints on this website, i am affraid that the dealer will not be able to fix this, which is pathetic that a 30000 dollar car would have something like this that is so annoying.2. When u are decellerating with ur foot on brake to stop at a stop light for example, just before the rpm needle reaches teh idle point at "1" almost.. It will suddenly go back up to about 1.5 and then come back to 1. I dont know if its bad gear shifting by teh autotran or just bad timming adjustement? but its annoying, cuz it make teh car jump a little if you are soft braking.3). Twice already the engine just dies.. And i think thsi is related to the previous two problems. I was backing up in my parking at hime.. And as soon as i put gear in reverse.. The rpm sudeenly dropped.. And eventually engine shut down. Same thing happened when i pulled up to the parking entrance at work to show my access card, and when i put it in p, the rpm dropped causing the car to stall.4). Transmission makes clunk sound sometimes while driving when changing from n to d. Or when i do a cold start in teh morning and then put teh gear in d, as soon as i move teh car an inch.. It makes thsi sound.. Somethimes looks liek coming from teh front end not the tran.. I donno what that is. But this also has been reported by other people on this same site,no one is hurt but i see my self bumping someone in future sooo clearly.!!
My 2004 sebring convertible has made two distinctly different noises:1st at any speed when i release my foot from the gas pedal i get what i call a cricket sounding noise - very annoying. 2nd at speeds of 70 mph and up i get what i call a whistling sound that is also very annoying and stays on when i use cruise control.i have had the car in for service at massey yardley, hobe sound, fl on at least 3 different occasions and gone for test drives with the service manager.he recognizes the problem tries to fix it to no avail.finally have had chrysler look at the problem - they also acknowledge the problem, but tell me i have to live with it.i am going to arbitration shortly.
On two separate occasions when releasing the brake pedal from a stopping position vehicle suddenly accelerated and lurched forward, consumer had to slam on the brakes to get the vehicle under control. Vehicle had been to the dealer on two separate occasions, andthe transmissionwas replaced twice.
Consumer complained about anelectrical system problem.vehicle caught on fire and burned the wiring. Also, transmission experiencedproblems, such as down shifting. While driving automatic transmission would go into a lower gear and remain their for an extensive period of time.
1) parking gear gets stuck in gear and will not come out of gear at times. 2) even when car in park the key will not come out or go into the access key mode.3) car cuts off at the spare of the moment with no notice and no indication why.

The airbag light on my 2004 chrysler sebring convertible came one.taking it to the dealer, they indicated the driver's side seat belt pre-tensioner needed to be replaced. It had already been replaced once before under warranty. The dealer stated that the car was 3 months out of warranty that it would be my responsibility to replace it.when i balked, the dealer "gave" me the part and charged me for the labor. I followed up with chrysler indicating that i felt this was a recurring safety related defect and as such, they should fix it for free. I was told that the free part was all the "goodwill" gesture that i would receive. The car currently has less than 14,000 miles on it and a component of the safety restrain system has already failed twice.chrysler does not seem to be concerned, so i am filing a complaint with the nhtsa as i feel that this is not an isolated occurrence.

Passenger seat had been feeling warmer than usual for a couple months so kept the seat at heat level 3 instead of 5.it was ok for awhile but then burned a hole thru the seat as well as my jacket.smelled the burning so i turned the seat off.turning the seat off stopped the burning.
2004 chrysler sebring lx.consumer writes in regards to drivers seat malfunction.the consumer stated when his wife entered the vehicle, the front driver's seat collapsed backwards into the back seat. Apparently, bolts had broken causing the seat to collapse.the consumer was informed a recall was issued for previousmodels.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, he activated the front driver's heated seat warmer and the seat became extremely hot. The contact stopped the vehicle and noticed that there was a burnt hole in the middle of the seat. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
The seat warmers overheat.when driving, i smelled something burning.the seat warmers burned a quarter-size place in the passenger seat while my daughter was sitting in it.she got out of the car and i turned the seat warmers off, but there is a black mark in the center of the passenger seat and we can no longer use the seat warmer safely.why hasn't the car model been recalled by chrysler?
While driving, the passenger seat started to smoke due to seat heater failure. The dealership did not resolve the problem.*mr
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that the driver's seat electrical heating system failed and burned through the material. The manufacturer's engineer inspected the vehicle and concluded that the failure was not caused by a manufacturer defect. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 97,000.
Heated seat fire on 2004 chrysler sebring limited.on a trip with our family - the passenger heated seat was turned on at some point getting in our out of the car.a standard insulated cooler was sitting on the seat so nobody knew it was on.we continued to smell a foul burning smell (similar to diesel fumes) and began to move lanes, roll the windows down, etc.a short time later, the smell became severe and the car began filling with smoke (while traveling down the highway).i pulled over, made sure everyone was out of the car and started to look around the interior.found a portion of the cooler melted to the seat bottom.several sandwich bags had melted to seat also.i turned the switch off, and let it cool, then continued down the road.within 5-7 minutes, the car was filling with smoke again - i had to pull off the highway immediately and remove the relay from the pdb to cut the power supply to the seat.we called poison control that night since our newborn infant was in the car with us and inhaled the burning by products.i scheduled an appt at the dealership shortly there after to have this addressed -it took months to get this repaired - and when delivered back to me - was supposedly checked by technician.the relay was not even installed in the pdb! i have more information and pictures - the website limited information in this box.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact detected smoke inside the vehicle. The contact coasted over to the side of the road and noticed that the driver's seat was really hot and had two burn holes. There was also a hole in the contact's jeans. The contact was not injured. The front passenger seat was also burned through the seat cover. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
On a recent trip out of town i smelled smoke which i thought was coming from the car in front of me. As i went further the smell becamea bit stronger and i knew it was coming from my car. I wound up pulling off the interstate, pulling into an empty lot and jumping out. When i reached in for my pocketbook i saw smoke billowing up out of the passenger seat of my chrysler sebring. After turning the car off and the control to the seat, which had been turned on accidentally, the smoke dissipated. I took it to the garage and they in turn unplugged the heating elements and told me they would order a new one and a new seat cushion since that was damaged in the fire.my husband called to check on the parts he was told they had received the heating element but were waiting on the cushion. When he asked if they were going to replaceall the elementshe was informed that only the faulty one would be replaced at this point.i then contacted chrysler only to get the same response from them.my feelings are that if one element was faulty then the rest most likely are. The dodge caravans have been recalled for this reason. Wouldn't it seem they're using the same combustible elements in the sebring as in the caravan? i know of 3 other people in our small community that have had their seats go up in flame. How many people or injuries does it take before they'll do a recall?the worst case scenario would have been if my oxygen-toting mother-in-law had been in that seat as she is on most occasions!
While driving to work i began to smell something funny, the drive to work takes about one hour, i checked around the car for a reason for the smell but could not find anything. On my way home that evening from work i could smell it again. When i stopped bya store near my home i picked my purse up off the front passenger seat and noticed a hole on my front passenger seat that had burned through and also burned though a piece of paper that had been on the front seat and it had also burned through to the bottom of my purse. I immediately turned off my heated car seats both passenger and drivers seat. This could have been much worse if someone was sitting in the passengers seat at the time or if this was the driver seat that overheated and burned through.i called the next day to chrysler but they were closed until mon. I plan on calling them on monday to report this and see what their responsibility is for defect.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. While driving 65 mph with the driver side heated seat activated he noticed that the mechanism burned through the seat which caused injury to the drivers right leg. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the heating element needed to be replaced. There were no prior warnings. The current mileage was 90,000 and the failure mileage was at 86,000.
Thank you
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring touring convertible.the contact heard a medal to metal sound in the wheels.the contact took the vehicle to a mechanic who repaired the brakes on april 20, 2014.the mechanic advised the contact that if the ball joints were not replaced, an accident could occur. The ball joints were not replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the defect but did not offer a remedy. The mileage when the brakes were repaired was 40,921.the current mileage was 41,220. Lg
Rear brake failed,leaked fluid.
While braking vehicle stalled intermittently.consumer pulled over, and restarted the vehicle. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Rotors broke and had to be replaced along with pads at a cost of $453.rocker panels under both doors rusted out at the seams, chrysler would not fix, i was told it was a factory flaw not covered under warranty.
Consumer took vehicle to the dealer on numerous occasions, there was a noise in the brakes caused by the rotors which were chipped and scratched.

As i drive my sebring, every dip, hole or crevasse my car hits(going 30 and up its dangerous) sends it way to the side, doesn't have an exact side either. Does it both ways. I believe it has something to do with my lower ball joints so possibly my control arms and i was told it was possible that this specific car had issues with the control arms. The way the car drives right now is seriously dangerous and i was just curious if this car did actually have a recall or a manufacturer defect.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that while accelerating and making a left turn, there was an abnormal noise coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. The failure recurred on several occasions when making turns. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10e059000 (suspension). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Thhe stearing will lock up and belt will sqeel even when the belt is tight got worse till line blew wide open not good when having kids thank god not in car when it happen.almost lost it.this is not a normal thing ive looked alot up on this.
After turning around in a trailer park parking lot just started going forward when the lower ball joint separated from the lower control arm causing the left front tire to collapse from under the car and disabling the steering. If this had happened on the street at normal speeds it would probably have caused a major crash.
Me and my kids was leaving our house and driving down the street i rode about 5miles and then my car start to swirl then it was hard for me to steer. So i got out the car and notice my front tire had went in. And i had to have a tow truck take my car back to the house. And come to find out the ball joint had broke. But before all of this i had never receive no recall to bring my car in to get this check and i'm doing research and it states that they have had a recall on this but i never receive no information. To fix this problem. This could have been the end of me and my kids lives if i had been on the highway.
Purchased 2004 chrysler sebring from ed tomko dealership in avon lake, oh on sept 23rd.after 270 miles (9-29-03) the steering column started to shake while idling at stop lights (visibly shaking and makes it difficult to keep my hands on the steering wheel, as my entire upper body feels the affects). I took the car into the ed tomko dealership on oct 6th and was told this was normal for a 4 cylinder (i have owned 4 cylinder chrysler vehicles for 14 years and never encountered this defect). I called the dealership the next morning and spoke to the gm who passed me off to the service manager (later i was told this was no longer the sales dept's concern-it was now a service issue).the service mgr, dave tomko, told me he was involved with the car the previous day and saw no problem. I brought the car back on oct 9th for dave tomko to visually confirm the defect via a road test. He told me this was normal and i had no other recourse than to seek arbitration. I have contacted chrysler's customer assistance center (reference # 11733597) and have been brushed off. They sided with dave tomko and several e-mails later, told me if i didn't think this was normal to go to another dealership. I have since taken the car to another dealership (oct 20th). They agreed it was not normal and upped the curb idle speed (as the shaking became more prominent when the idle speed dropped). The problem has re-surfaced and the car was returned to the dealership on nov 6th. They have faxed the sensor readings to chrysler. I have not heard anything as of today, nov 8th, and the car remains defective. I am concerned about not being able to maintain control of my vehicle while idling at intersections, since it is uncomfortable to keep my hands on the steering wheel while idling.

My vehicle has a loud rattle/clunk coming from the other side of the firewall. My car has been in the repair shop twice with no results. The service manager heard the noise during a test drive with me, but now claims that there are no noises in my car "out of the norm". I am concerned that this could be something serious, since no one gas determined the problem. Chrysler corporation will not get involved because they are claiming that it is a dealer problem.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring.while the contact was examining the vehicle, she noticed that the entire dashboard was lifting up and becoming warped.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.prior to the failure, the contact noticed that the dashboard was warped directly on top of the instrument panel.the current and failure mileages were 87,500.
2004 chrysler sebring rear upper strut mounts broken from corrosion.replacement parts not available. Back ordered by the thousands.
The locking component for the convertible latch on the passenger side has pulled off.*mrwhen it pulled off it left a gouge in the bottom portion of the locking mechanism.the problem has occurred two to date.the part has been ordered but the consumer is not sure if the new part will also fail.
Consumer states:back came off car while driving down road and screws came out of bumper. The bumper ripped out of the snaps that hold it in place.
Dt*:the contact stated the inside handle on the driver side door had chrome separation causing a cut on the hand.the vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined the handle needed to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring.the contact's daughter was severely cut when she opened the door from the outside.the chrome plating on the door handle was failing.the contact believed that the handle was faulty and a major safety issue.the dealer has not inspected the vehicle.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 47,728 and failure mileage was 47,650.
Dt: the contact stated the chrome door handle on the inside ofcar cut a passenger's finger while exiting. The passenger's finger slid down the handle. The dealership was contacted. They said they could reorder handles at contact'sexpense. They suggested that she covered the handles with tape if she did not want to reorder them.
I had just turned around in a parking lot when the drivers side lower ball joint separated from the control arm and the wheel collapsed and the inner cv joint separated. If i had been traveling on the street at the time, a major accident would have been likely. About a thousand miles later the passenger side ball joint separated from the control arm just as the car was put into reverse. This time the didn't move more than about 6 inches and no other damage was done.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. While driving 5 mph, the front passenger side ball joint detached from the vehicle. The contact lost control of the vehicle and the front passenger tire turned sideways. The vehicle swerved on the road and the contact had to pull over quickly. The vehicle was immobilized and was not able to be driven. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 109,021.
This chrysler sebring convertible had the left front lower ball joint fail and separate from the lower control arm while being driven. This failure resulted in loss of steering control at a speed of approximately 30 miles per hour. The location happened on smoothly paved spring run road extension located in pennsylvania, allegheny county,in moon township. The time of this event was approximately 6:15 a.m.

I was driving my vehicle and started to hear a knocking in the rear of my vehicle.i stopped at a muffler/shock dealer and they had to replace a broken upper strut plate and bearings on the right rear, because these parts had completely rusted away.my vehicle is only 4-years old.about a month later, the same thing happened to the left rear of my vehicle, but the shop could not locate any repair parts.there are so many of these parts breaking the dealers can't keep the parts on hand.i was told by chrysler corp and other parts dealers; that there are over 9,000 of these strut-plates on back order.this makes driving the car unsafe, and with these many breakdowns the vehicle should be included in a recall to reimburse owners for this expense.
Drivers side ball joint broke while turning onto highway. Tire separated from car and axle separated from transaxle. Approximate speed less than 6mph. No contol of car after incident.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. While driving approximately 10 mph and making a left turn, the ball joint snapped and the front passenger side tire went beneath the vehicle. The vehicle crashed into a curb. The air bags did not deploy. It was unknown if a police report was filed. There was an injury that did not require medical assistance. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Ball joint broke whileleaving from in front of my home lucely
Have loud clunck in front of vehicle, repair job was done, ball joint and control arm, driver's side front wheel, but one day laterproblem returned.i am being told cannnot do anything else until the problem returns, the problem is intermittent.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring convertible. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the rear driver's side of the vehicle exhibited a loud, abnormal noise.the contact inspected the vehicle and found that the rear driver's side tire had become separated from the wheel well. In addition, the lower ball joint was fractured.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number 10e059000 (suspension). The failure and current mileage was 115,000.

I was turning right after a stop, and my front right ball joint failed, causing the car suspension to fall onto the wheel rim, and i lost my steering.i backed up to get out of the way of cross-traffic, and inadvertently pulled the right boot out of the transmission, and the front passenger corner of the car fell all the way to the ground.car was towed, inspected, and found tat the left ball joint was also loose, so i replaced both sides, as well as a new right drive axle and boot.the mechanic said that this model has greaseless bearings in the ball joints, which is a problem he has seen before.total repair bill was over $770.i feel lucky, in that in another 5 miles i would have been on an interstate highway.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, she rear ended another vehicle. Twenty minutes later, the front passenger tire suddenly blew out. A spare tire was installed; yet, within fifteen minutes while driving to an authorized dealer, the contact suddenly lost control of the vehicle, veered off of the road and crashed. The contact was injured and the vehicle was destroyed. The police report listed a statement from awitness indicating that the front passenger side tire was not on the vehicle properly. The contact stated that the front passenger side tire was the same area which she had the two prior failures.she stated that the failure was related to nhtsa recall 09e056000 (suspension:front:control arm:lower ball joint). The manufacturer had not been notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 60,000.
-the contact states that while driving on the highway at 65 mph, the vehicle's upper control arm broke off, on the rear passenger side tire.the tires got locked inside the body and the rear end went broadside.thecontact states that his mechanic explain to him that the problem with the vehicle was the upper control arm, both bolts broke off in the rear.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. While driving 20 mph he heard a noise in the rear of the vehicle. Upon further inspection he noticed that thepassenger rear tire failed. He removed the tireand discovered corrosion on the driver and passenger rear shackle. He speculated that the shackles failed since they weremade out of aluminum. He replaced the left and right rear shackles with metal shackles. The vehicle identification number was not available. The failure and current mileages were 80,000.
I had owned the car less than 4 years when the rear strut mount on the passenger side broke from corrosion and caused me to have to have the rear mounts and struts replaced.i emailed chrysler and they responded that since the car was no longer under warranty for those parts that there was nothing they could do about it.
Incident:outer, or upper plates for strut assembly deteriorated; vehicle deemed unsafe to operate; parts on nationwide backorder; approx. 3,000 vehicles affected by this.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring.on june 25, 2007, while driving approximately 50 mph, the contact heard a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle.the contact took the vehicle to the shop and found that the rear shock mounts were corroded.the rear passenger side shock mount had detached from the vehicle.the manufacturer stated that it was not their problem and the contact would have to pay for the repairs.the current and failure mileages were 71,931.
2004 chrysler sebring rear upper strut mounts broken from corrosion.replacement parts not available. Back ordered by the thousands.
04 chrysler sebring 4 door sedan v6 2.7l rear strut to body mounts failed.the mounts appear to be cast aluminum and dissolved to nothing cause suspension failure.this then caused the fronts to be replaced as well.the whole car become dangerous to drive causing the car to sway and have excess play in steering.
Upper rear strut mounts for 2004 chrysler sebring severe corrosion causing mounts to fail.if not caught in time strut assembly could wear through inside side-wall of tire and cause blowout, possibly wreck.replacement parts are all but impossible to find.
Rear shock mounting plate on 2004 chrysler sebring disintegrated from corrosion, causing the spring to rub on tire and tire failure at high speed. No injury.
I was driving along, and suddenly a rattling noise started coming from the right rear of the car when i would hit bumps.the car's handling was the same and the vehicle still felt stable, so i continued driving until i got to the dealership the next day.the y advised that the rear strut mounts had deteriorated, and that chrysler had revised the mounts after my vehicle year because of so many people having the same problem.now i have to pay $300 to get them fixed!
Umball stud separated from the socket of the bolt joint causing the control arm to collapse and the wheel to fold in. Upon hitting the ground, big amouny of unknown oil spilled.
When slowing down to stop, the vehicle lungesforward.(forcefull), so much that i hit someone that was 5+ft infront of mei do not have pictures with me. But i can provide them and also the repair bill
I purchased this vehicle. The law enforcement has fair me. My car has been reported stolen 3 times and never made it to a data base. This vehicle is being looked for in 14 data bases in 12 country's. This car is a thousand pounds light and i would like to i ow how holds tow companies and law enforcement responsible for the faulty vehicle reports? the dealer?. Why has this car not been criminally processed.
Thhe stearing will lock up and belt will sqeel even when the belt is tight got worse till line blew wide open not good when having kids thank god not in car when it happen.almost lost it.this is not a normal thing ive looked alot up on this.
I have owned a 2004 chrysler sebring for about 3 years.this issue has been sporadic throughout the time i've had the car.after driving on the highway and then needing to come to a stop at a traffic light, stop sign, or toll booth, the car periodically does one of two things;it either stalls, which then i have to restart the car and all is fine, or the rpms drop and this causes the car (by itself) to react by revving up the rpms and lunging forward while my foot remains on the brake.it's not so much the stalling part that bothers me, as i restart the car and go.however, on several occasions, i nearly hit the car in front of me when the car lunged forward.the occurrences are infrequent, but it is only going to take one time that the nearly becomes an accident.this issue occurs maybe 15-20 times per year.out20 occurrences, it will stall 18 times and lunge 2 times.nothing has ever been found to be mechanically wrong with the car. After doing some research, it appears to be a common issue with this year, make and model.i've seen enough complaints to take the time to send this to you.
While at a stop light vehicle suddenly accelerated and hit another vehicle. *la
When coming to a stop with my foot on the brake, the idle will drop down and then surge causing the car to lurch forward. It has also stalled on 2 occasions. I have almost hit another car and a pedestrian when the car unexpectedly jumped forward. I am afraid i will hit something. This problem needs to be investigated now.
Shortly after i took delivery on my 2004 sebring sedan in july, 2004, i returned to the dealer because the car would shake and stall out at low idle speeds.the dealer addressed the problem.the problem recurred again in late 2005, but this time, it didn't always stall out.at times while i was breaking or even stopped with my foot on the break, the car would suddenly surge forward without my touching the accelerator.i took it to the dealership again, and it was fixed, i was told, by a computer update, and i got it back on 12/1/05.i noticed that the problem was recurring as i drove about 450 miles on january 3rd and 4th of 2006.i planned to take the car back to the dealership after driving home on 1/6.but on the last leg of the trip, as i applied the brakes coming up on cars stopped at a traffic light, the engine surged and the car hurtled forward as i yelled and tried to get the brakes to override the acceleration.i rear-ended the car in front of me at the light, but only knocked out her left brake light.the sebring sustained over $5000 in damages.i drove the car the rest of the way to my home, but on reflection, i was too afraid to drive it to the dealership for repairs, and they came and drove it to be repaired.when they checked for the surge i described, this time they were unable to duplicate it, so they said they could do nothing.i have not accepted the car back.too dangerous.
Dt:consumer has a 2004 chrysler seabring. Consumer complained about an intermittent stalling problem.vehicle has been worked on twice due tostalling. Dealer cleaned the throttle body twice. The vehicle was at the dealer onaugust 12, 2005. Then the vehicle stalled again on august the 13, 2005.dealer said the problem was build up in the throttle body. When the vehicle stalled there was no warning, and the vehicle started up with no problem after stalling. She contacted dealer august 15, 2005 and the dealership assured her the vehicle was safe, and did not offer to try to do anything else to fixthe problem. She did not think vehicle was safe, and was scared to let her family ride in it.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, she approached a traffic stop signal as the engine stalled without warning. The engine restarted and resumed normally. In addition, on numerous occasions an unintended acceleration occurred when depressing the brake or accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and they were unable to locate the problem. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. The vin was not available.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring.he stated that the engine would race and the vehicle would surge. Surge forward.the engine would rail until he turned the key off.the current mileage was 43,500 and the failure mileage was 41,000.
My 2004 chrysler sebring limited convertable has an ongoing problem of the engine intermittently surging, revving, and dying at slow speeds. I've been to the dealer 11 times. He can't duplicate problem but has found oil on map sesor, pcv valve & hose and intake plenum. He has replaced these parts and finally had to replace whole engine along with running service bulletin # 18-041-03. The surging, reving, and dying has started again. The first time was at 531 miles and the most resent was at 18500 miles. The chrysler people told me mine was the only case but i've found 9 more on this website. Something must be done!!!!
When i brake to park the vehicle, it surges forward. It has done this several times. The dealership has replaced the throttle position censor, but it continues to surge.
When slowing down to stop, the vehicle lungesforward.(forcefull), so much that i hit someone that was 5+ft infront of mei do not have pictures with me. But i can provide them and also the repair bill
Sitting at a stop light, the vehicle's rpms increased and it tried to surge forward, but foot was still firmly on the brake so the car didn't move more than a couple of inches. The next day a truck stopped in the road and it had no brake lights, so my wife had to slam on the brakes. She released the brake and as she did the engine's rpms revved up very strongly and the car surged forward. The brake was applied again and the car came to a stop and held the car back until the engine's idle speed returned to normal a few seconds later, because of the surge an accident almost occurred. Took the car to the dealership, they looked at it and found no problems, said it may have been a computer glitch. A few weeks later, while letting off the brake the car surged again, brake was applied and car came to a stop. Then a week or two after that while stopped in a parking lot with the transmission in drive and the brake applied, the car revved up again and tried to surge forward, but again only moved a couple of inches because the brake was firmly applied.later car died, but was able to restart right away. Car taken back to dealer in regard to both problems. The dealer said the stalling problem could have been because of the oil filter. They replaced the oil filter and the oil switch, as for the surging problem they said they could not find anything wrong, and again it could have been a computer glitch.
I have already submitted one complaint and this is an extension of that plus a new complaint. On 7/11/2004 my vehicle surged again when i started to take my foot off the brake while sitting at a stop sign. When will an investigation begin on this problem? including my past complaint i have found 10 complaints about this problem. Does someone have to die before an investigation is started? the odi id# for just the surging issue are: 10075295, 10079965, 10079969, 10072311, 10063597, 10064593, 10074633, 10065378, 10075041, and 10080475. I informed the dealership about the problem and they looked at all the sensors and computers and said they found no problem or record of a problem in the car's computer, this was on 7/12/2004. Also a problem from months ago, the car suddenly died, luckily my wife was cruising through a park and the speed limit was 10 mph, she was able to restart it and it hasn't happened since. We took it to the dealer and again they checked everything and found no problem. 3rd issue, my sebring has been idling very rough every now and then. I drive my car every single day, but it appears to do it mainly when it is the first start of the day but it has done it at other times. The dealer has been notified about this issue and they requested we leave it with them over night so they could test it on the first start. Service arrangements for this issue have not been made yet.i have found many complaints about all three of these problems on this website, but there is not a single investigation open on this model of chrysler, why?
2004 chrsyler sebring surging issue. Consumer states that the vehicle will accelerate without warning causing the driver to take emergency action.
Dt:the contact stated the accelerator pedal stuck , causing an accident.when the accelerator pedal stuck the contactcould not control the vehicle.there was a problem with the accelerator pedal sticking prior to the accident.then, the vehicle was inspected to determine the problem, but was not repaired.after the accident a diagnostic test was performed, but it did not show anything wrong with the vehicle.this was an intermittent problem.the vehicle has not been repaired.updated 11/7/2005.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler sebring.whenever she puts the convertible top down, the rear defroster does not work. She took the vehicle twice to two different dealerships to have it repaired on eight different occasions. The technicianadmitted that it was a manufacturing defect and repaired it free of charge. She contacted the manufacturer numerous times, but was not provided with assistance.the defroster was currently inoperative and no dealers in her area would assist her. The current mileage was approximately 105,600. The failure mileage was approximately 5,667.
During normal use of the car, the rear-window defroster stops working. The defroster stops working because a power wire comes disconnected as the tab attached to the glass detaches.the car is a convertible with limited vision to the rear, when the defroster doesn't work the driver's vision is limited even further.this makes driving dangerous. The tab was re-attached at the dealer.
While putting the top down, the rear windshield shattered. The top shatterd while in park.there was a grinding noise heard in the rear when the window shattered into the vehicle. *sc

We have two chrysler sebrings, one is a lxi and the other is a convertible.both are 2004 models and both of the hoses to the wiper sprayer broke at the bend where the hood closes, next to the window. They have used a plastic tube that is not flexible, and after a few hood openings, it breaks.i would think that all other sebrings would have the same problem, but when i contacted chrysler, they just brushed me off.
The switch that controls the windshield wiper function separated from the steering column when it was used. The dealership indicated this failure was due to a factory defect.
Dt*: the contact stated there was corrosion on the inner part of the rim which caused the tire to become deflated completely.the service dealer and manufacturer were not contacted.
The rear wheel bearing on 2004 chrysler sebring touring failed.
