The contact owned a 2002 chrysler sebring. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle was involved in a crash. The air bag on the driver side exploded. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. The driver had metal fragments in the arm as a result of the explosion. Both the driver and passenger received medical attention. A police report was filed. Consumer 2002 sebring air bag light illuminated and seat belts were inoperable. ***nar***the driver's side seat belt retractor was defective.
Once i turn on the car the airbag light goes on and off constantly
Airbag/clock spring broke while making a right hand turn into a parking space. This failure made the airbag light come on and the steering to make a clicking sound while turning. I contacted the selling dealership and was advised to bring the car in as soon as i could. The airbag could deploy on it's own or may not deploy in case of a collision. I took the car to the dealership for repairs. I found technical service bulletin #0801001 and #1900702 pertaining to this problem and notified the dealership. The dealership repaired the car which i purchased new less than 2 years ago, but is out of warranty because of mileage. I was charged for the repairs. I think a safety issue, such as this, which is known about, should be covered under policy by the manufacturer.
After ten days of purchase air bag light came on and remained on even afterdealership replacedair bag light module.this part wasn't available for two months from the manufacturer.consumerwas told thatvehicle wasfine even thoughair bag lightwas stillon. Dealership still has vehicle.please describe details.

The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed a total loss. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
While driving air bag warning light illuminated andstayed on the remainder of the time while vehicle was being operated. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. A rattling noise could be heard in the dash area.the consumer found a nut and notified the dealer.the dealer informed the consumer that the nut did not belong in the dash and they insulated the dash so no more noise could be heard.the consumer feels the nut came from something in the dash. The seat belt pre-tensioner was replaced three times.the transmission fluid began to leak.the dealer determined that the cooler line clamps became loose and caused the transmission fluid to leak.
When stoppingat a stop air bag indication light began flashing, and passenger's side aig bag deployed inadvertently.air bag smashed the windshield and console.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 45mph a deer and telephone pole were struck with the front end of the vehicle.the frontal air bags did not deploy during the accident however, an hour later both frontal air bags deployed.the contact was not the driver of the vehicle therefore, it is uncertain if there was pre-impact braking.the driver of the vehicle was wearing a seat belt and no injuries were sustained.the air bag warning light did not illuminate.as a result of the accident the vehicle caught fire and the check engine light illuminated.the vehicle has not been inspected by the dealership.the insurance company has the vehicle performing an investigation.the police were alerted and a report was filed at the scene.the vehicle is a 2002 chrysler sebring lxi.

Air bag fault light on.chrysler says that it is the seat belt tensioner on drivers seat.internet search shows this is a common problem in chrysler vehicles.
2002 chrysler sebring conv. Experienced complete loss of electrical system and engine shut-off. Towed to dealership, tested, but no repeat of symptoms. Owner requested chrysler repair personnel actually drive car.upon doing so, all symptoms appeared with total loss of all electrical systems and non-starting engine. Even though the problem presented itself to the dealer, they could not diagnose or repair the problem.dealer (harbor chrysler, ventura, ca) had car for 18 days. Car released in non-repaired condition.upon picking-up the car, the owner attached written statement of concern to the dealer regarding the safety of operating a vehicle that can suddenly stop operating with complete loss of all electronically controlled systems including brake lights, signals, flashers, wipers, airbag deployment sensors, head and tail lights, etc., as well as a non-running/non startable engine.chrysler dealer advised owner to drive vehicle until the failing component(s) experienced complete failure, at which time the problem could be accurately diagnosed. This translates into an obligation on the part of the owner to operate an unsafe vehicle in order to help the dealer diagnose the problem.the vehicle is effectively unusable, as strong safety and liability issues continue to concern dr. Rolff, the owner/driver.
The vehicle's engine seized while driving. The vehicle had a continuing brake problems and would die while in motion.the consumer requested reimbursement.when the vehicle was first purchased at 92 miles, there was a problem with low oil.the consumer was advised that the transmission leaked.the vehicle would continue to lose power and the oil light had come back on.other problems were:the brake light was intermittent, the front end would vibrate, the brakes squealed, there was slight leak at the proportioning valve, the top was pulled down and the radio had become inoperative, the side mirrors and the power locks had become inoperative, and the brake pads had worn down to 2/32. *sc

First i had continuous oil leak so the pan or some part was ordered and installed. The oil is still leaking out of that pan or part? that was a couple hundred bucks including checking the constant flickering oil light which now just flickers and i pay it no attention. The second issue was a computer chip or something, the car would just not start so i took it in that was 800 something by the time the car was going again. The third issue was the connecter that has three hoses to it went bad and smoke came from under hood and when i opened it the water was spraying leaking and of course empty which was another 300 bucks after towing parts labor etc...the current problem is the steering which i don't know what's wrong with i just do my best to stay in the lane. Also i have found out the wheel are really really cheap and flaking so my brand new tires were immediately punctured which i've paid a bunch to keep them sealed and balanced and not to mention the wear from the steering and flats has pretty much ruined the new tires.
When ur driving down the road the engine just shuts down like u turned off the key. It isn't over heating and no check engine light so i cannot figure out why it keeps doing this and it has a new battery . I just bought the car.
I have had my 2004 niacin maxima for 1 month and have the switch controlling the sun roof no longer works. I brought it back to the dealer to repair and they ordered the parts from nissan. It has been almost 3 months and the parts have not come in. Nissan says they are on backorder and have no idea when thre will be available. They said it could be 1 more month or maybe 6 more months. They do not know.this is a $900 dollar option that does not work, and nissan says they have no idea when the parts to fix it will be available.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring.the contact stated that on numerous occasions the vehicle failed to start, also the vehicle remained on after it was turned off and the key was removed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the ignition. Since the vehicle was repaired, the entire instrument panel failed to give an accurate reading.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was unavailable.
Dt:vehicle caught on fire.itburned the antenna. Vehicle was towed to dealer.a representative was sent to find out what happened. She did not know if she should get it fixed or leave it as it is for further investigation.but consume r wanted to know what started the fire. Dealer did not know what started the fire. Had never seen anything like this. The representative said he will turn in his report and the manufacturer will get back to her within a week.manufacturer has not called her back yet. The opinion of those that looked at vehicle said it might be an electrical problem.
Problem # 1 - started as intermittent / now constant. Speedometer intermittently "wacky". Earlier in nov. 2008, exhibited a problem that i first saw two winters ago. In dec 2006, had the same symptom - speedometer going wild.in the repair shop, the rep replaced inner & outer speed sensors based on codes he saw from computer. Problem not seen since 12/06 until recently. In early oct 2008, only about three brief instances. Now the wacky speedometer is frequent / constant. Going along at 55 mph, suddenly speedometer needle flips to 10 mph (presumably the car is still really traveling along at 55 mph). In fraction of a second the needle swings back up to 60 mph, then down to 20 mph, then up to 70 mph, then down again to 5 mph...i took the car in for service at a local garage. Garage tech replaced both inner & outer transmission sensors on 12/5/2008 -based on computer codes, and reset ?check engine? light. Since replacing both speed sensors the ?wild speedometer? problem still happens; swing of the needle is just a little less, engine light comes back on (constantly) after having speedometer swing wildly for a few minutes. Problem # 2 - possibly related (or not) - at lower speeds (5-30 mph), the car transmission seems to respond fine (other than the wild speedometer issue). I mean that is the car registers 1000-2000 rpm, sounds like engine is running well.car seems to drive fine at higher speeds after driving for some time at 50-60 mph, then slowing to exit (down or up a ramp) when speed is slowed to around 20 mph, transmission seems to abruptly downshift to lower gear (small buck can be felt); then car seems to stay in low-gear. I can still drive the car but when the speed is around 30 mph, the rpm is over 3000, can hear the engine straining. I pull over, turn-off engine, sit a minute, restart car, it is ok once again to drive. It can go over 30 mph or higher and maintain around 2000 rpm (until speed is reduced to 20 mph (cycle continues).
Problem with the speedometer, car is in driveway in park, the idle will go up a little , but the speedometerwill go up to 80-100 km will sitting still. If you give the vehicle gas in park the speedometerwill go to 240 kmagain while in park and not moving. I have had it the vehicle rescanned, but the issue did not go away..i took it to the dealership where we purchased the car, and the put almost 200 km on the car and the problem never happened again. Thishappened more that enough times, but when it wentinto service to get checked out they could notsolve or get the car to do the same problem.it wasvery frustrating ,and our concern was that when the warranty ran out and there was a serious problemthere will be a costly bill. I am also concerned for my family's safetywhile my wife wasdriving the car.
In november i noticed that in the mornings when i would get ready to drive to work my car would reverse when put in drive. Since i had just move to california for my new job and was in training i didn't get the time off to take my car to a dealership until january06, 2003.
My wonderful father brought me this convertible sebring lxi on 04/17/2014. After my chevy impala/2002 stalled due to transmission/ignition switch the total cost is $3100.00. So my dad pays cash for the convertible sebring lxi. On 05/03/2014, i was driving on the interstate attempting to attend a barbecue. It was a very nice day out. The car starts to overheat and the car stalls and slows down. I pulled over to the side of the road. The very next day, sun may 4,2014. I had the car taken to a mechanic and the engine had jump time and the engine had sludge build up. I was advised that it would cost me $3000-5000 for a new engine. I have lostmy job in hr due to not being able to go work. I now own to vehicles that i can not drive and cant even afford to fix the car since i have lost my job. It really upsets me about the condition of the vehicle. There should be a recall on these engines. We the consumers should receive some type of relief. We the consumers rely on the intelligence and integrity of those that manufacture and make the engines. I'm asking that chrysler pay for me a new engine. That is a small amount compared to the fact i could have lost my life behind the wheel of this car. Had this turned out any other way such as a fatality. My parents would have ensured that " heads would roll". I would hate to see chrysler in the same "hot seat" that gm is currently sitting in. I had my starter replaced in sep 04 and today it went bad again.the first repair cost me over $500 and only the dealer could get the part.
In 12/2001 i purchased a 2002 chrysler sebring lxi and discovered the interior lights blinked.i reported to the dealer, who neglected to repair the problem.on april 26, 2007theradio intermittently stopped operating and began to blink even while turning off and/or not operating the vehicle.i took it to the dealer on 05/18/07 for diagnosis and repair, and as it turned out the radio was causing the interior light to blink.once the radio was replaced the interior lights no longer blinked.the problem with the radiowas electronically back feeding into the electricalsystems , causing the radio and everything it back feed into to become charged by the battery and on constantly.thiswas a serious fire hazard while the car was parked in my garage.thiswas a problem chrysler was aware of by issuance of their technical service bulletin #08-026-01 dated 12/14/01 for 2001-2002 sebring/sebring convertible/stratus and 2002 liberty.chrysler refused to take responsibility for the problem even though they knew the problem existed.other than the interior lights blinking, the electrical problem did not become evidentuntil april 26, 2007.i was left to pay for factory defective equipment.it took this problem 5 years to surface, but it has the potential to cause a great deal of damages to the vehicles and personal property as well as cause serious injuries or death by fire.please help me and anyone else who own these vehicles.
Windshield shows a refection of the vehicle. This causes the driver's vision to be obstructed. Had tried to alleviate problem by covering or painting it, but problem still exists.
When ur driving down the road the engine just shuts down like u turned off the key. It isn't over heating and no check engine light so i cannot figure out why it keeps doing this and it has a new battery . I just bought the car.

Vehicle was running well and well maintained.then had issues starting and suddenly died without warning.seems to be a similar engine failure of these models.
Car completely stalled when driving on highway. Mechanic said it was extremely common in these cars.
When ur driving down the road the engine just shuts down like u turned off the key. It isn't over heating and no check engine light so i cannot figure out why it keeps doing this and it has a new battery . I just bought the car.
We were the original owners of this chrysler sebring limited 2.7l. Took the car in for regular service. Oi changes, air filter, tune-ups, you name it. We made sure to keep this car up and the engine running. At 100752 the engine blew. Since the car was out of town we had it towed to a local chrysler dealership for repairs. They informed us that the engine had sludge build up and the engine would not move. At the recommendation of the dealership we had the engine replaced with a used 2.7l chrysler engine. Less than a year later the water pump went so we replace that. We were told that thethat second engine also had sludge build up. They replaced the oil and filter. 2 months later that engine blew up as well from the sludge build up. At that point we decided not to throw good money after bad and dumped the car. This is a production defect of the 2.7l chrysler engine that was installed in our 2002 sebring. We kept up our end of the bargain and took the car in for service. Chrysler should pay damages for a faulty engine. This vehicle should have lasted much longer.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring. While driving approximately 60 mph, the engine stalled without any warning indicators illuminating on the instrument panel. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the engine would need to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 151,000.
On june 3 2012 i heard a knocking sound coming from my engine on the way to church. When i left i had problems getting the car to start. I finally got it started and returned home. The next morning it would not start at all. I called around to see if i could have someone look at it. When i told them the make, model and engine size of my vehicle they informed me that the type of engine that i have are known for failing. It has a 2.7l engine which is known for sludge build up. I had the oil change regularly. I found that the water pump was leaking fluid with the oil causing it to fail. Now i have to replace the engine which is going to cost $3000 including labor.

Chrysler sebring 2002failed engine twice - one was the result that not enough oil change and it blew the engine.the 2nd time - claim the transmission blew the engine, which was to be under warranty but have refused claiming the abuse of the driver that caused this to happen.my believe is that there's a problem with the sebring engines.the vehicle only have 65,000 plus miles and we had onlyhad the car back 3 weeks when the engine blew the 2nd time.the dealer that repaired this vehicle has failed to provide me with all the work that was completed on this vehicle.the company is bob frensley chrysler in goodlettsville, tn - 615 859-0000.i have requested this infomtion on serveral times and has yet being faxed.the vehicle is still at this chrysler dealership.

The vehicle was taken to an independent where it was diagnosed the all four ball joints and struts needed to be replaced. In addition, the vehicle was also diagnosed that there was a water pump malfunction and the fuel tank filler neck had corroded with the vehicle. - the contact ownsa 2002 chrysler seabring.the contact stated that there was sludge build up in his engine ,and now the entire engine needed to be replaced.the contact believed that the sludge caused this problem.the contact stated that the engine kept making noises, and hetook thevehicle to a repair shop on 3 different occasions.on one occasion during a test drive the vehicle completely lost power.the contact wasconcerned about the engine shaking and making noises and will not use the vehicle, also the engine was overheating.the contact had been traveling approximately 12 hours the previous day when the vehicle began overheating the following day.the contact stated that they had maintained the vehicle regularly.the weather was nice and the contact was driving between 65 - 70 mph.the failure mileage and current mileage were both 73,298.
A quiet squealing noise under the hood over a period of 3 to 4 months getting louder leading to trouble starting car and finally car would not start with jump and new battery. Took car to mechanic and it turned out to be a simple frozen pulley except for the fact it was connected to the air-conditioner shaft. The pulley can not be removed without replacing the ac unit and serpentine belt. This design is apparently on many chrysler models and is a very expensive fix should and when it occurs.
Due to an oil sludge issue, my engine cut out on me and now i am having to replace the timing chain and possibly the motor. I haven't gotten the full report back yet.
Bearing blewno warninghave had regular oil changes.
The vehicle would intermittently stall when applying the brake to come to a stop.the vehicle has been to the dealer on 5 separate occasions. The dealer reset the timer the first time and was not able to duplicate the other 4 times.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring.when starting the vehicle, the contact heard a knocking sound coming from the engine.when accelerating, the sound would increase.he drove the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the knocking sound was due to sludge build up.the engine needed to be replaced.he called the manufacturer and they stated that because the vehicle was 16,000 miles over the warranty, they were not liable for the repairs.the vehicle has not been repaired.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 86,000.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring.while driving 25 mph, the engine began to make a loud knocking sound.the contact took the vehicle to a local repair shop, but they were unable to duplicate the failure.through online research, the contact found that this was a common issue with his year, make, and model vehicle.currently, the vehicle is not working and the contact feels that it is due to the engine knocking.the current mileage was 153,775 and failure mileage was 153,800.
Dt*: the contact stated the engine made a knocking noise.the vehicle was taken to 3 different dealerships.the first dealership was unable to duplicate the problem.the second dealership was to duplicate the problem, but did not feel repairs were needed under the warranty.the third dealership was able to duplicate the problem, but the check engine light was illuminated and would not turn off.the third dealership replaced an unknown computer part and performed a tune up, but the check engine light was still illuminated and the knocking noise was still present.
I regularly maintain the oil in my car, yet the oil seems to disappear. I add oil in between changes and the technicians at the oil change have never seen any leaks. I continued to drive and noticed a knock in the engine. I checked the oil, and it was low. I was not due for a change, so i put oil in the engine. The knock continued until one day it became an awful sound, and shut off. I had the car towed back to my house where it has sat for a month. I had a mechanic diagnose ,y car and he said it was a rod, and that i needed a new engine. I have noticed where several people have had problems with the chrysler 2.7 valve engine. I do not feel that this is my problem, especially if chrysler has a faulty product.
Sudden engine failure- 2002 chrysler sebring lxi sedan, 62,400 miles- no warning.two opinions have both stated total engine replacement is the only option- $3000 for a used (60,000 mi) engine.have not yet decided if i will fix, and then immed unload, or try and trade- and get nothing! (still owe $3500).
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring.for more than three weeks, the contact has been waiting on a part to repair her vehicle.the dealer has over five hundred orders waiting for the mapping sensor, which is the mass air flow pressure sensor, that allows the engine to start.without this part, the contact's vehicle stalls constantly.she was involved in three crashes due to the failure.there were no injuries.after it stalls, the vehicle restarts within a minute.the dealer cannot provide a specific time of when the part will be available.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 53,000.
2nd engine failed in 2002 sebring at 50,000 miles i will never ever buy chrysler again, this is a safety as well as economic issue.
I was driving me car and the engine locked up. I had no warning from the oil and engine lights. I had it towed to the dealer, and they said a bearing in the piston had spun from engine sludge. I saw on line that they are having problems with this and won't do anything about it.
Dt*: the contact stated the motor stalled while the vehicle was in gear and would not restart.the check engine light did not illuminate prior to the incident.a mechanic determined that sludge built up in the engine caused the motor to stall. The manufacturer determined that the vehicle's proper oil levels have not been maintained, however the contact disagreed
2.7 liter v6 engine- sebring convertible. Regular oils changes at 3000 miles.engine failed at 76000 miles on the car due to water mixing with the oil..(a direct result of a head gasket failure- i assume)the mechanic noted that there was severe oil sludge build up in the engine and that it needed to be replaced at a cost > $5000.he also indicated chrysler is aware of this issue and there is a class action lawsuit pending. Chrysler has since modified this engine for its newer vehicles.
I was driving on the freeway in a construction zone. My car started accelerating and then the engine just stopped. It was during rush hour traffic, and due to the construction there was nowhere for me to avoid the ongoing traffic. A nice gentleman assisted me to the off ramp. I took my car to the nearest mechanic (tunex). They shared with me that i would need to tow the car to the dealer so that my warranty would cover the problem. I needed a new engine. The dealer is refusing to cover my car, even though i have oil change records and my mechanic went personally to the dealership, where his cousin works, and testified to my regular maintenance. The car is sitting in my garage pending arbitration.
While driving 60 mph vehicle seized. As a result, vehicle had to be towed to the dealership.
The 2.7 liter engine in my sebring acquired a load knocking noise. I took the vehicle to a repair shop and found out that this engine has a chronic sludge problem that caused this failure. The repair shop replaced the engine at a cost of $4,895.09.
Was driving along us 27 south in indiana when the car made a terriable noise and stopped running....motor locked up....(still had about 1200 more miles before the next oil change
2002 chrysler sebring engine failed. Diagnosed as excessive oil sludge.dealer denied claim citing inadequate oil changes which is incorrect, oil change was done when specified, oil light never had to come on. I bought the car new and had it maintained. What happened: the car stopped after a loud tapping noise in the engine. I was driving to work and had to stop immediately. I sent complaint letterto chrysler's ceo and they refuse to fix. They wantto charge $6000 to repair.chrysler should replace those engines. Too many complaints. I cannot afford to fix car and i still have a loan on the car but it is not driving.
The water outlet housing on a chrysler sebring 2.7l engine year 2002. According to the parts personnel, there is a large number of failures regarding this specific housing which causes overheating etc.
Problem: vibration noise under hoodloss of cool air with air conditionerdealership replaced expansion valve.
Engine failure.while driving west on hillsborough avenue in tampa, fl, the engine suddenly cut out.this is a 55 mph road -- in some parts 60.husband was able to steer us off the road into a target parking lot.the car is still at the shop while we wrestle with the warranty company over them replacing a sludged engine.had problems with timing belt screaming if the outside temperature is over 65 degrees for over a year.had this replaced on first incident -- still screams.since having it replaced the fan now only works on "high".
Our 2002 chrysler sebring's engine failed at an off ramp of a highway.the car had to be towed.the car started to smoke after it was driven from the garage that it was towed to.the engine needs replaced.*bn
2002 chrysler sebring with 2.7l v6 engine.engine has not failed yet, but only because i no longer drive car for fear engine will seize while i'm driving, causing an accident.oil light started flickering beginning of aug. 2009; replaced oil pressure switch, which did not resolve problem; mechanic recommended replacing oil pump; after researching, discovered oil sludge issue, which i am 100% positive is the problem with my sebring.87,000 miles on car; have changed oil every 3,000 miles; more often than recommended by chrysler.
*sc
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible.while driving 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly shut off.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the engine needed to be replaced.the current and failure mileages were 67,000.
I purchased the 2002 chrysler sebring lx sedan in october 2003 used with 43,000 miles. I had received free oil changes from the dealership where i purchased the car for two years. I did not receive all of the oil changes for the two years, but oil was changed on a regular basis. In october2005 i was on my way home for the weekend when i noticed a loud knocking noise coming from the engine.i pulled off the interstate ,and as soon as i stopped, the engine died. I waited about ten minutesand restarted the engine. I drove to a gas station and checked the oil, no oil. I placed two quarts of oil in the engine and drove home. Over the last 1 1/2 years i had four mechanics, including chrysler mechanics, tell me that it neededa new engine due to oil sludge in the engine. I have been paying on this vehicle for over three years, and only been able to drive it for about two years, i still owe $5500.00 on the vehicle, and am not able to drive. If this was to happen to a person in the right situations it could be devastating, and lives could be lost. Chrysler stateditwas a problem with people not taking care of their vehicles, but they were aware that therewas a problem with the oil return heating up the oil too fast and causing the oil to sludge. Toyota, audi, volkswagen have all had similar problems, but they h owned up to them. These complaintswere becoming more numerous, andwere starting to come in more dangerous situations, how long will this go on before somebody was actually injured? i am personally out of a lot of money, and will be out of this money for at least 2 more years, unless i run into a winning lottery ticket to purchase a new engine. Every body was making money off of these engines, except the consumer. I know it sounds bad, but i hope somebody somewhere will give their life to give you the hint that something needs to be done for these 2.7 liter v6 engines in the sebrings.
2002 chrysler sebring engine failed.diagnosed as excessive oil sludge.extended warranty and dealer denied claim due to inadequate oil changes.i bought car used in july, 2003.what happened:the car stopped after a loud tapping noise in the engine.i was driving in rush hour traffic when the car stopped in the middle of the street.i sent complaint letter sent to chrysler's ceo on 9/22/04.
The vehicle stalled without warning. When driving 45-50 mph, consumer would take foot off the gas and vehicle made a whining noise. Dealer repaired problem.
The contact called regarding the 2002 chrysler sebring.while drivingat 60 mph the driver heard a loud noise and the vehicle started to vibrate near her feet.the contact heard a loud pop and saw smoke coming from under the hood.the contact immediately stopped the vehicle and towed it to a repair shop. The failure mileage was 131,164.the mechanics diagnosis stated that the engine needed to be replaced.chrysler refused toauthorize the engine repairs.
With relatively low mileage the engine began to smoke.then the oil pressure light came on when at an idle.now, the engine needs replaced because it is worn out due to lack of lubrication.this should not happen when oil changes are done at correct intervals.
Sludge build up in the engine, there is coolant like into the oil line. Which has made the oil spit out from under the head gasket and spit out on top of the motor cover. The water pump and time change needs to be replace when they notice the sludge in the oil pan of the car. They in turn took of the top of the engine and the sludge was just thick and gritty. I was told by a chrysler technician that chrysler is aware of the problem with the 2.7 liter engines.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring.while driving 30 mph, the vehicle lost power without warning.the vehicle was towed to a local mechanic and he stated that sludge build up and a frozen engine compartment caused the failure.the vehicle has not been repaired because the cost is expensive.the contact has yet to notify daimler chrysler or the dealer.the failure and current mileages were 101,000.
Dt:contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring.the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving..upon taking the engine apart and inspecting it, the service dealer stated that there was a buildup of sludge in the engine.the dealer suggested the contact replace the engine.the manufacturer needed to see the oil change receipts.the consumersent the invoices to the manufacturer.the consumer did not know what the manufacturer or service dealer was going to do about the problem.
While drivingthe engine failed without warning. The cause has yet to be determined. Please provide additional information.
Sebring developed sludge problem, cost almost $6,000 to drop in a replacement engine. Chrysler should issue a recall and reimburse everyone that's had this issue.
On april 30, 2009, my well maintained 2002 chrysler sebring experienced total engine failure. The engine in question was the defective 2.7 litre v6 engine which are prone to oil sludge. A stalled lawsuit claims as well do i, 'the engines were defective in that the engine design caused the formation of engine oil sludge to an unacceptable and improper degree, that the build-up of such oil sludge resulted in excessive heating of the engine, excessive wear and tear of the engine, excessive formation of carbon deposits which blocked oil passageways and restriction of oil circulation in the engine, and resulted in substantial failure of the engine''. Chrysler corp and my local dealer refuse to investigate and deny knowledge of the class action lawsuit, which is stalled due to the filing of chapter 11.
My 2002 chrysler sebring's engine seized up when i was driving down the road one night to take my husband to work. I had it towed to my dealer just to find out that i was 32 miles out of my extended warranty and that i had apparently not changed my oil and that caused my engine to lock up. When my engine locked up i had floored it to go around a slow-moving semi on a little 2 lane highway. The engine started making a terrible knocking sound and i noticed that even though i was pushing down on my gas pedal, the rpms were going down instead of up. I finally got back into the right hand lane and my car sort of wobbled a couple times. It kept losing speed and when we stopped at a stop light the engine died and would not restart. Now i am stuck with a $5500+ repair bill only to find out that this engine was and has been defective since day one. I want chrysler to pay for my engine and all my heartache.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring.while driving 60 mph, the contact heard a loud bang and the vehicle shut off.as of december 26, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle.the current and failure mileages were 82,249.
Oil sludge in engine.
These are safety/defect issues regarding my 2002 chrysler sebringengine:i have a 2.7 liter v6 engine and i have recently readabout common problems after experiencing a knock in the engine.just today, i had a mechanic listen to the engine noise and he speculates that it is a rod or rod bearing.this appears to be a symptom of the sludge problem that your web site has documented.i have not yet confronted a chrysler maintenance rep and would be interested in tactics that have been documented as successful.i have been somewhat regular about oil changes, but i am not the original owner, so would have a problem proving the maintenance intervals.steering:last summer i first experienced a problem with the steering tightening.basically the general feel of the steering was tight and it would not return to a 'home' position after turning.a mechanic estimated that it would take $1500 to replace the rack assembly and the power steering pump. On a hunch, i had the power steering fluid replaced and within a week the steering returned to normal.around oct/nov, the symptoms returned and i had another power steering fluid replacement.this time the symptoms have been intermittent and have not completely disappeared.i have read a few complaints on the internet of other sebring owners having similar problems.
My 2002 chryslersebring was sitting in the shop right now gettung a new timing chain at 64,000 miles. My outside extended warranty will not cover a new enginge because they know that chrysler has this as a defect. It's not right, and chrysler should be held accountable. We all have had the same exact issue.
On may 17,2010 while driving to college, i noticed a loud whining rough sound, and every time i hit a bump it would sound like something was loose coming from my tires. Before, i could stop to see whatthe problem was, my steering wheel locked and my car ran off the road when i attempted to regain control my sebringover corrected and entered a counterclockwise spin. I crossed 5 busy lanes before striking a ditch.my car stopped opposite direction of oncoming traffic!!!july of 2013 i had my lower control arms, and ball joints replaced.and again in february 14,2014 i had to take my car to the shop again for lower ball joint disconnect and replace lower control arms.and again this year february 24, 2015 for the exact samething; replacement of lower control arms and lower ball joint.this car is very hazard i was blessed there were no injuries in 2010 when i had my accident!every time; i drive this car i am so frantic of knowing around the time i am going to hear that sound of something rattling and sounding like loose bolts coming from the tire.my 15 year old daughter this year, made the remark;" mama i hear that rattling sound again!"please someone, somewhere; do something about the costly repairs on the chrysler sebring 2002 cars.the economy is not cheap to live in, especially when you are fixing the same repairs year after year on the only vehicle you have.and yes, i do have all receipts on repairs and accident report. Thank you very much for your time and consideration of helping.
Vehicle has a fog horn sound due to build up in air conditioner's expansion valve. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer could not duplicate problem.
The problem is with the sound system.specifically, the problem appears to be related to the bass sound.whenever the radio or cd is on, there is a horrible buzzing/droning noise accompanied by a vibration in the speaker panel on the doors. It is unbearable.
I own a 2002 chrysler sebring with approx. 35k mileage. The transmission started acting funny about three weeks ago. It would not budge when in drive gear or would stall at red light. It was worse when cold. I took it to chrysler dealer in greenvale, new york. They indicated a transmission leak requiring change of transmission oil and cleaning, even though chrysler manual itself does not indicate transmission service before 45k mileage. They changed the transmission lines and hoses and charged me over $400 for the service. Chrysler fails to acknowledge a design defect requiring this service. Ultimately, i discovered that you have received many complaints regarding the same issue and also outright transmission failure which chrysler fails to address. I know that a recall was issued by nhsta for 2001 chrysler sebring regarding similar issues. Perhaps it is time you issue the same recall for 2002 chrysler sebring. Even better, please issue a cease and desist order against all american manufacturers of crap they call motor vehicles, so we need not make similar complaints in the future.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring. While parked, the contact stated fuel was dripping from the fuel railing and he noticed a fuel smell. Also the check engine light was illuminated on the instrument panel the contact stated there was recall 03v443000 (fuel system, gasoline: delivery: fuel pump) for the 2003 model. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that the check engine warning light intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was leaking. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Dt*:the contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle gas fumes entered the vehicle.the vehicle was inspected and gas spraying from what appeared to be a gasoline line near the gas tank was observed.the vehicle was towed to the dealership however no repairs have been made.the manufacturer was alerted.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled numerous times without warning. The mechanic replaced the starter and the fuel pump sensor; however, the failure was not corrected. The vehicle continued to stall without warning. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic for further inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 102,000.
I am extremely dissatisfied with a particular quality of my 2002 sebring.this is the second time i am bringing this to the attention of chrysler and i am demanding further inquiry and resolution be offered on my request.i am very adamant about this request as it has put my children in a very dangerous situation and could cause harm or even death to others. The problem itself is rather simply to understand but can have very dangerous ramifications. The driver side door lock does not have a safety feature preventing the driver door to be locked while the keys are in the ignition or in the vehicle.on every other manufacturer vehicle i've owned there was a feature that prevented this from happening - whether the car was running or not. In this particular situation, my 1 1/2 son was in his car seat as my wife parked our sebring in friends drive way.she accidentally depressed the car lock while closing the door.the car was locked, with the engine running and my child inside the car.it took over a 1/2 hour for me to drive to the location with the spare keys to unlock the car.this was extremely dangerous and nerve racking and could have been worse in extreme heat or winter conditions without proper ventilation. I would very surprised if chrysler has not be notified of this complaint and will be extremely dissatisfied if i don't receive resolution to fix the problem or at the very least a compensation for the situation, frustration, time and money spent.unfortunately to date, chrysler has not done anything other than to guide me to this site. This series of events (if unresolved) will seriously sway my decision of chrysler products in the future.
Front brake rotors warped beyond repair at delivery. Front grill area deeply scratched on both sides of grill. Transmission jerks badly when going into gear. All tires badly out of balance at delivery. Because of the out of balance tires and the warped brakes the abs system sensor could receive false signals therefore rendering the abs inoperable.
2002 chrysler sebring. Consumer writes in regards to follow up on multiple mechanical issues case .*as
My wonderful father brought me this convertible sebring lxi on 04/17/2014. The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring. While driving 40 mph, the driver side tie rod fractured and the contact lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The tie rod was replaced. While driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the screen on the transmission was replaced. The failure recurred, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 133,000. Updated 09/25/15*ljupdated 12/12/2017
When i purchased the car with approximately 44,000 miles i test drove it and it ran fine. At 60,000 miles the transmission began to give me problems, it made noise only while the car was in drive. I took it to a certified transmission place and they had it for two days and stated that my transmission was fine. Less than 2 weeks later the transmission went out. I had it repaired but im still having problems now the transmission jumps while slowing down between 35 to 30 mph.
Transmission slips occasionally. Transmission fluid under car.dealership repaired transmission cooler lines (clamps)
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle would not switch gears.the non service dealer determined the vehicle needed a new transmission to correct the issue.
Was driving vehicle between 50-60mph and transmission downshifted on its own. Took vehicle to dealer andwas informed "smart car" has to learn driving habits of owner.
While the vehicle was in thepark position on a slight grade , the vehicle rolled backwards, resulting in a collision.there were no fatalities, but there was extensive damage in the amount of $3,000.
Automatic transmission has been jerking hard when shifting to 5th gear since the purchase of the car. When reported to the service department, the response was there is no problem. Check engine light would linger on intermittently but no code returned. At 70,350 miles, the check engine light came on, when shifted from park to reverse and neutral to drive, the car jerks hard andthe transmission will not shift out of first gear. Immediately took it to an auto shop (speedy auto) and left the car for two days. The check engine light was still on but the transmission shifted fine. No code available. Problem was clear for 3 days then recurred. After the car sat for over 12 hours, the light went out and car shifted fine. The light has now been on for 8 days and still jerks when shifting from park to reverse and neutral to drive.
Transmission had a minor leak then one day the car would not engage in drive for several seconds. Once the car was moving it had a very sudden and harsh down shift when the vehicle slowed to a stop. Now the whole transmission is being replaced on a 2002 sebring sedan with 28000 miles.
*sc
When shifting from park into reverse vehicle wont move, but from park to neutral vehicle would go forward. Dealer inspected vehicle several times and replaced some sensors. But problem recurred.
Since i bought my car 4/13/03 i have had brake system problems on 6/2002,9/23,11/27-3/2003,5/03,9/03,9/18,10/01/03,10/07/03 each time adjustments, repairs, replacement have been done. Now since 9/23/03 along with the brake problem that still existing i am experiencing very a heavy, vibration this is felt when the car is at a standstill car can either be in neutral or park and it feels as though there is a vibrating mechanism attached to your car. The service department says they couldn't detect anything on their scanning device. *la
Recently while driving my 2002 chrysler sebring lx i was slowing down off an exit ramp and the car suddenly grabbed at around 32 mph. I found out by monitoring my speeds that you have to go over 36 mph and slow down to 32 mph for it to grab and it does it every time. The check engine light has never came on and has been checked for working operation. I recently had the car taken to a dealer to be put on a diagnostics machine where there they said they can't even say what is wrong, they said something is wrong but for the machine to not even pick it up something isn't right. All fluids have been checked by myself and the mechanic and they have maintained proper level. We have reason to believe maybe a sensor or just to reset the whole car all i know is this is costing me lot of money. I wanted to report this case.this may be a start to a recall on the car. If the dealer and the computer can't find it maybe you can help?
I am currently driving a 2002 chrysler sebring lxi and everytime we reach about the speed of 50-65 mph the transmission sounds like the old bat mobile. It whines and has a real loud wind whistle.can you tell me if you have recievedany other complaints about this year and model vehicle?i have connected the dealership where i purchased it and they said that is normal sounds. I have also taken it to another dealership and recieved the same response. We can't believe that a company would make a car that has a bad wind noise coming from the tranmission.it has started slipping on occasions and when we come to a stop it shifts hard and again the dealership said that is normal.
While shifting from reverse to drive, car feels like it is in neutral.i must shift back and forth to get vehicle moving again.this usually is not a problem because it usually happens in a parking stall, where not a lot of moving cars are around to hit me.almost always after the neutral/drive problem, the transmission will shift down hard when going from second down to first gear, causing a jerking motion.this has caused me to take it into the shop twice now, and it was different problems each time.the first was a sensor, the second, a "tsb" needed updating. Each time i take it in, i am guaranteed about a $200 charge.
When slowing down, transmission jumps very hard when going into 1st gear.when driving 45 to 55 mph, when hitting a bump in the road, there is a thump in the passenger side front.not consistlently, but enough to cause concern.
I own a 2002 chrysler sebring with approx. 35k mileage. The transmission started acting funny about three weeks ago. It would not budge when in drive gear or would stall at red light.
- the contact was at a stop with the gear in park; when she applied the accelerator pedal the gear shifted toneutral. This incident has occurred on two occasions.the contact has researched similar complaints on the nhtsa website related to the 2002 chrysler sebring. The contact's mechanic stated the failure is due to a failure in the drive shaft.the contact's vehicle was taken to the mechanic on december 18, 2006 for repair.the power train is under warranty.
In november i noticed that in the mornings when i would get ready to drive to work my car would reverse when put in drive. Since i had just move to california for my new job and was in training i didn't get the time off to take my car to a dealership until january06, 2003.
Dtconsumer states when the key is out of the ignition switch, the gear shift can slip to another gear.
I have now had two incidents where i have accidently/unknowingly moved the floor transmission gear shift from drive to neutral while driving my car.they have both been while proceeding to make a left hand turns with oncoming traffic and were near accidents. The gear shift moves so easily from drive to neutral with just the slightest pressure causing the loss of engine power as it goes into neutral.i didn't realize what had happened when just the force of stopping, before turning, with my hand resting on the shifter pushed it out of gear.the second time just moving my purse onto the console pushed it out of gear. I have owned 4 other vehicles with floor shifters and have never experienced the movement of the shifter without first pressing in the release button. I thought the reason the gear release buttons were installed on vehicles was to prevent the accidental movement of the gear shift. When sitting in this vehicle the only place to comfortably rest your right arm is on the arm rest which then extends to your fingers resting on the ball of the shifter.to access the release button you have to actually go under shifter to press it in, this is a safe procedure, but now that i found out that it does notwork that way i am consciously aware of getting into an accident because of it.i now find myself sitting on my right hand while driving and when a passenger is in the front seat i warn them not to bump the shifter while reaching for their drink in the holder.i called the dealer to make sure this was not a defect and he assured me that it was normal design of the car.is this a normal design of all cars?if it is, it is a very poor design.
At brothers graduation in lansing when the problem came up.called home dealership who said it was too far away to do anything about.had the car towed to the nearest dealer, where it took a month to get it fixed.chrysler said they would only fix it and would do nothing else until it happened again. The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring.on june 25, 2007, while driving 25 mph, the transmission failed.the contact was able to restart the vehicle several times.the vehicle was towed to a repair shop.the mechanic stated that the transmission needed to be replaced and will cost between $1,500-$2,300.the vin, purchase date, and engine size were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 64,800.
While driving the vehicel at 40mph the automatic trasmission broke causing consumer to pull off the road. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information. Ts
Consumer 2002 sebring air bag light illuminated and seat belts were inoperable. ***nar***the driver's side seat belt retractor was defective.

I was driving on a surface street at approximately 35mph and slowing down to make a stop at an approaching red light when the driver side seat back collapsed throwing me backwards while the car was in motion. At that point my leg was stretched straight and i had difficulty reaching the brake pedal. I was able to pull myself back up by pulling on the steering wheel with both hands only to see that i was quickly approaching a car that had stopped for the light in front of me. Once sitting back up in my seat i was able to apply the brakes in time to avoid rear-ending the car in front of me with only inches to spare. The car at that point was barely drivable but i did manage to drive to my mechanic without a seat back.this is a power seat able to adjust forward/backward, up/down, and tilt back/forwardthe mechanic had to replace the entire motor assembly as there was no way to purchase only the defective replacement part.
Consumer statesseat heater isworking only when vehicle is running, not when is idle. Dealer has inspected three times and could not duplicate or correct the problem.
Rear disc brakes.i had a repair shop and a dealership assess what they both found to be what's called a backplate.it mounts onto both left and right spindles.the backplate on left and right hold or guide the pads in place on both sides of the caliper.the pins show to be almost rusted out.the dealership told me the left and right backplate is unavailable and obsolete.so my options are to find a shop that can fabricate the parts or modify the rear brake system.truly a poor design.a prototype that slipped through the cracks.i have invested thousands over the years into the vehicle so i would have a problem free efficient ride when i retire.i now had to finance another vehicle because the chrysler sebring is no longer driveable.the dealership told me 100.00 to scrap it.unacceptable! i will continue to pursue my options. I invested alot of blood money into the vehicle and the help i received to date is park it or junk it.that is not even a remote consideration.
*la
Serious vibration when braking.had to have front and rear brakes replaced and all rotors resurfaced.
The braking system on our 2002 chrysler sebring seems inadequate.hard applicaton on a very cold and wet road at highway speeds does not result in brake lock up.i understand lock up is bad, but certainly the car should have enough braking power to lock the brakes under those conditions
Consumer states while applying brakes, consumer states the brake pedal went to the floor. Consumer finally got vehicle to stop, but engine was reving high.consumer feels vehicle was going to take off.please provide any further information.
While driving the vehicle and the consumer applied the brake the pedal will go down and wont release back, and the vehicle can experience extended stopping distance. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information. Ts
*sc
Car delivered with badly warped front brake rotors and the tires were way out of alignment. The conditions described could compromise the abs system and cause great bodily harm or death to the driver, passengers and anyone hit by this vehicle. Dealer fixed problems at first said vibration was normal for that car. Car was difficult to stop safely. Mr
Enterprise rental, mount kisco, ny. Consumer applied brakes at 25 mph and pedal went to the floor. There was no braking action, and vehicle rearended another. Consumer sustained minor injuries.amount of damage to vehicle unknown.
Braking does not seem to work properly, car fishtails while braking, especially on damp or wet surfaces, to the point that i have almost hit other vehicles even with plenty of advanced stopping distance. The car is almost out of control to drive on a wet road, and it certainly isn't completely effective on dry road surfaces. Problem has occured since vehicle was brand-new, and brakes/rotors are in excellent condition.
My front brakes failure, without any warning the fron brakes on my 2002 sebring.
On 2/5/05 car started to vibrate every time i applied the brake. I took the car to the dealer 2/8/05.the rep called to say the car needed brake pads and that the rotors could not be turned because the problem had gone on too long.when asked what problem he indicated that the brakes had been scraping.i told him that was not true.he then indicated that the rotors were warped and that a lot of sebrings and 300 m's came in for warped rotors.i asked if that were not an indication that the rotors were defective.he answered, well yes and no. On a car with less than 40,000 miles, the brakes and rotors were replaced. My ticket only shows that they were replaced.if the dealer does not report potential problems to the manufacturer how can consumers be safe. Warped rotors could compromise the abs system and bring great bodily harm to the driver, passengers, and anyone hit by the vehicle.
The steering is tight 80% of the time. I found out i had bad struts after putting it on a lift what else could it be?
Steering column makes a creaking sound like a door hinge when turning left or right with the steering wheel, even if moved while auto is parked and makes this noise also when braking.the dealership was notified during a recent oil changed on 1/13/05 and only checked brakes and did not listen to me and check the tie rod or steering column for noise.this occurs every time the vehicle is driven.
On february 10,2012 i just got off the express way and came to a complete stop at a traffic light when suddenly i heard a loud popping sound up front. I got out to look and found that my wheel on the passenger side was turned all the way to the right. After i had it towed to the shop the mechanic informed me that the control arm broke. I had to pay $450 to get it replaced.
I knew about an active recall on control arms for this make/model car, yet when i called the dealership they claimed my vin was not associated with any recalls. Soon after, my car started to make noise and the control arm/ball joint failed causing damage to my car while driving and almost causing accident.
My front end control arm and ball joint collapsed, causing other parts to be damaged. Ever since this has happen my chrysler has never been the same. My insurance company did try and fix the problem, but to my dismay nothing has been corrected. I am now being told that my car the chrysler sebring always have major front end suspension issues. Since this is the case, i believe chrysler should correct the problems on these makes and model. I would like to feel safe in my car, however i do not. I have been spending money frivolous to figure out the problem. I hope that chrysler can correct this issue immediately on my car. Please help.
Serious clunking noise upon acceleration / braking.dealership determined the lower ball joint was loose and replaced the left front lower arm control. Glad i made it home on my 250 mile drive without killing myself or others!
The contact owned a 2002 chrysler sebring. While driving approximately 25 mph and attempting to make a turn, the steering wheel seized and caused the vehicle to crash into a concrete divider. The air bags did not deploy. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact was not sure if a police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries that required medical attention. On may 17,2010 while driving to college, i noticed a loud whining rough sound, and every time i hit a bump it would sound like something was loose coming from my tires. At 41,000 miles my 2002 chrysler sebring lxi 4 door sedan required the replacement of right outer tie rod.i was told at that time if it had failed it would have caused a major and possibly deadly accident. One year to the day - at 47,000 miles the left outer tie rod required replacement. There were no accidents nor events which lead up to these failures.
The problem to my car happened while it was sitting in the garage. My 2002 sebring convertible has had a complete failure of the steering rack and tie rods at 28,000+ miles.the car is unsafe to drive.the dealer stated it was $1800. Repair.a call to chrysler service resulted in am offer to pay for the parts not the $1000. Labor charge.i called back to negotiate this offer.i was promised a call back which i received by voice mail asking me to return the call and stating that was there best offer. .when i attempted to return the call to the person who left the message i was hung up on twice. I am still trying to communicate with chrysler by phone so far after several hours i am still unsuccessful.after checking on the web i found many incidents of this kind reported by other sebring owners.why hasn't there been a recall on this obvious defect that could be life threating?this is a lightly driven car and should not have suffered this type of dangerous failure.
Consumer complained about a rack and pinion steering problem.when making a left turn the steering was binding.driver would turn the steering wheel and it would stick, making turns very difficult.
A knocking noise started coming from the front of the vehicle while driving. The driver noticed, while steering, that steering wheel failed to turned on its own.the driver was able to drivevehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined thatrack and pinionsteering needed to be replaced due to solenoid switch.
The consumer is experiencing problems with the rack and pinion. When making a left turn, the steering is binding. The driver would turn the steering wheel and it would stick making turning very difficult. Provide further details.
Problems with the front end, steering. It locks up and becomes very tight then very loose. I was told possibly rack-and-pinion by a mechanic. After looking at these complaints on the web site, i'm afraid to drive it. I have 2002 sebring w/87,000 miles. I will have it checked out monday for sure. How do i get chrysler to fix this?

Power steering rack and rust issue.

When i traded in my 2003 mazda suv on july 28, 2007, i did so in good faith that i would get a fair trade. I disclosed information regarding the mazda suv to the alameda county auction (aca cars) sales department. My car just had its oil changed, its tires were brand new, its brakes and pads were in working proper order. I had expected the same courtesy and respect from the car dealership. I traveled from sacramento to dublin because i put my trust in this dealership and had faith that it would sell me a car that had passed their safety inspection. However, i was very disappointed and felt betrayed when i found out later that the front bumper of the 2002 chrysler sebring convertible was held by velcro tapes. I was emotionally distressed over the thought of what might and may happen if i did further driving, fearful that the front bumper would drop or "fly off" while i was on the road. I could hurt myself and even others. I was further disappointed by the reaction over the phone by the same person who sold me the car. To imply to me that i could have done the damage myself, repaired the front bumper with velcro, and put the blame on the car dealership was totally unacceptable behavior. The velcro-bumper situation could be just the "tip of the iceberg." i no longer have any trust left in this car dealership and am wondering what other "hidden" flaws they did not disclose. As a consumer, it is my right to be fully informed of all aspects regarding the car that i purchased. I believe that this dealership has not only failed to give me that respect, it has also dealt me with a fraudulent transaction.

I drove into a gas station and as i pulled in the tire sounded as if it was flat i checked it and it looked fine.i tried to drive of and the front drivers side wheel did not move.i removed the tire in the parking lot to try and find out what was wrong, i couldn't see any visual issues. As i backed out to try and drive the car the balljoint came out. I had to pay to get my car towed from new jersey back to my town in ny for $110 and then on top of that had to pay to get towed again to a mechanic and with the repair fees ended up spending $500 for repairs. Also my oil light comes on when the car is in idle. Even came on as soon after i got an oil change.

Dt: whiledrivingthe tire came off onfront passenger side.the dealer said thelower ball joint failed.themanufacturer said they will talk to the dealer. They said they will pay for half. Serious clunking noise upon acceleration / braking.dealership determined the lower ball joint was loose and replaced the left front lower arm control. Glad i made it home on my 250 mile drive without killing myself or others!
While driving the ball joint popped out of the left front upper control arm.
In feb. 2006 the front wheel feel off my 2002 chrysler sebring because of a ball joint failure (non greaseable joint).luckily no one was killed or injured, but they could have been!i had the front joints replaced and other damage repaired.two months later (april 2006) the ball joints in the rear of the car failed and the rear wheel fell off.again no one was killed or injured, but they could have been!
2002 chrysler sebring with broken ball joint. Consumer states that the ball joint broke and almost killed him. He would like to know if she should file a lemon law complaint.
When slowing down, transmission jumps very hard when going into 1st gear.when driving 45 to 55 mph, when hitting a bump in the road, there is a thump in the passenger side front.not consistlently, but enough to cause concern.
When the vehicle was purchased the consumer noticed that the front left end vibrated. Vehicle was serviced, and technician determined that wheel bearing needed to be replaced.
Upon rotating tires on jan 2, 2007, i noticed severe corrosion on the rear strut mounts of my 2002 chrysler sebring lxi. Had these mounts not been replaced it could have caused severe injury to the passengers as the springs would have let loose through the external wheel well and enter the passenger compartment. This could cause damage to the vehicle as well as bodily injury to the occupants. Failure of these parts also could have caused the driver to experience a degraded response in handling. I purchased 2 new (modified by manufacture) strut mounts and installed them. The strut mounts cost were minimal. Rear strut mounts are severely corroded, cracked and broken.
Dt*:the contact stated there was a clunking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was determined the rear passenger side strut bracket fractured and penetrated the tire.the strut bracket and tire were replaced.
Driving 5 mile p/hr (luckily)upper control / arm bal joint, left rear, cracked, separated...tire fell off tbd (probably replace both parts or more depending on extent of residual damage.
Loud clanging noise from rear.mechanic advised that both both struts and shocks were broken and needed replacement.estimated $600.00 .
Dt:the rear mount that holds the rear mcpherson strut in place, disintegrated.the consumer stated it was made of aluminum.it fell apart and the part made a rattle sound, which was the strut moving around.the consumer was going 20 mph.the vehicle was taken to the dealership, they replaced it.
Was driving home and hear loud noise got out and checked and found that the strut bracket had broken on the rear of my 2002 chrysler seabring. I got home and called the dealer to get a new one they told me that the part was on backorder and that there was around 8000 on backorder so i called chrysler and asked why they haven't recalled this part yet with 8000 parts needed there must be a problem with this part. They told me that there wasn't any of these parts in the usa. Now why is this? this part is known to go bad they told me. Then why can't they issue a recall and get these parts made so these cars can be fixed.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph when there was a loud, abnormal pop from the vehicle. The front end of the vehicle then collapsed as the vehicle abnormally accelerated, independently steering right. The vehicle skidded and crashed into a pole. There were three persons reported injured. A police report was filed and the vehicle was destroyed. A field inspector was sent from the manufacturer to inspect the vehicle and found that the rear driver side ball joint had separated from the upper control arm and caused the contact to crash. The manufacturer offered no assistance as they did not claim responsibility for the failure or the crash. The current and failure mileage was approximately 140,000.updated 05/16/11updated 2/8/12
On july 10th,2008 i heard a loud noise coming from the back of my 2002 chrysler sebring 4dr sedan.i pulled over and noticed the rear passenger strut had fallen from the mounting bracket.i took the car on july 11th to get it fixed.the repair shop told me that the bracket required (4879072ad) is on extreme backorder and it couldn't be fixed.i called all over the country searching for this part.it is only available through the dealers.there is no aftermarket replacement.all dealers everywhere are out and have orders placed on chrysler but never get the parts.i called chrysler customer service and they acted as if they didn't know of the problem.after being persistent, i found that there are over 10,200 on backorder in the us as of 7/17.assuming 2 per car and some dealer "safety stock", this could add up to 4000 cars which are not being driven because of the parts availability or are being driven unsafe.every chrysler parts dealer i called said the potential exists for the wheel to fall off without the strut attached.it also causes damage to tires and other components.i checked with junk yards hoping to find a set.i did find them and they are in the same condition as mine.if the carpet in the trunk is pulled back you will see white dust and corrosion everywhere. I heard from a dealer that the parts come from mexico and the plant is on strike, there have been cars sitting and waiting for this part for up to 3 months, best case i can get parts in 1 month.from a parts, safety and awareness standpoint, chrysler has dropped the ball on this one.unacceptable.i am out car rental fees and have been on the phone for days!they could at least acknowledge the problem!i am certain they know of it.
Vehicle control arm on right rear wheel broke while driving.
In may, while driving my passenger side rear strut mount on my 2002 chrysler sebring broke.i took my car in and had it fixed and had to leave it as the dealership (golling chrysler) advised me that it was a safety hazard to drive with the broken strut mount.on 06/29/08, my driver side rear strut mount broke.this time, the dealership (clarkston chrysler) stated that there are no replacement parts as there is a design flaw with the part and they had to be reengineered.so, i have been unable to drive my car since 06/29/08.my car only had 65,000 miles but it is parked and unusable.i have been told that this is a common problem and there is a backlog of 10,000 parts on order.chrysler called to state that they estimate that the parts would be in on august 11th.this is obviously a safety hazard - or at least that what the dealership told me and i cant imagine that very many people can shelve their car for 6 weeks and instead - like me, have had to drive there car on occasion.i was able to burrow someone's vehicle but there were still times when i did have to drive my sebring when another vehicle wasn't available.it should be noted that of those 65000 miles, well over 99 % were on highway and paved roads.there are no dirt roads in the area and it is rare that i ever drive on one.
Dt*: the contact stated at various speeds, a noise was heard coming from the rear section of the vehicle.an independent repair shop determined the driver side rear strut mount was corroded and fell apart.the part was replaced.the vehicle was located in a salt belt state.
July 1 driving on bluewater bridge right rear strut snapped off. Two weeks later while in st. Thomas ontario the drivers side strut snapped off.both of them had rotted right off.replaced with reconditioned struts - $500.00+ towing.
Rear upper shock mounts broke. Made of allum. Why? corrosion will happen if you install allum next to sheet metal, also they were not painted. The new ones are at least painted. It does not seem to me to be very smart to have allum. Mounts and unprotected.
Right rear top strut mount became noisy/creaking/thumps) during the winter. 2 weeks ago while driving home we heard excessive noise/creaking/thumping from right rear. While driving to work the next day noise was even louder. Upon inspection i found the shock had dropped through the mount and were wedged in the coil. Temporarily pushed it back up, purchased a new mount from dealer which was installed. Old mount, aluminum),had completely deteriorated. Now the left side was getting louder. Will replace before shock damage as well.
Mr
After driving off the lot with a new 2002 chrysler sebring lxi, consumer observed a noise from the lower drivers side and felt vibration from the steering column. The noise is a rattling noise that sounds like metal slapping or tapping against metal. This occurs regularly at high and low speeds once the engine reaches normal operations (after the car has been driving for a few minutes). The dealer has been notified three times and has not solved this problem. They resulted to saying that the noise is from a transaxle splash guard, but they tried to recreate the noise by pushing the splash guard against the transaxle, but the noise did not disappear.
Again another heavy rain leaving a pond on the passenger side floorboard. Witnessed the entry of the water, passed info on to dealer.dealership replaced right side door weather shield and sealed the mirror.
More water after another heavy rain - only on passenger side floorboard this time.dealership resealed all windshield molding to correct water leak.
Volumes of water on driver side and passenger side floorboards after heavy rain!dealership resealed cowl panel (left and right), resealed firewall, realigned front right door!
All 4 interior door handles the chrome plating has split leaving a razor sharp free edge. Passenger door handle caused a serious cut to a passenger who attempted to open the door.
I have attached the paperwork 4 my 2002 chrysler sebring. As you can see my first payment was april 13th 2018 this was my deposit $700. Again on april 24th i paid another $600. May 20th i paid another $700. June 5th i paid $105. June 5th is when i took possession of the car. July 1st is when i had the car accident, where i was informed that the damage on the car was so severe because the undercarriage was all rusted out. The car was totaled. The first day i took the car home the battery was dead i had to buy another battery for $75. I noticed the car was bottoming out i told the mechanic jim who is also the man that sold me the car and he assured me it was safe. They had three months to check the whole car out and make sure it was safe and it sat in the same spot until i picked it up. Now either they never checked the car or they checked the car and sold it to me anyway. The way i see it is they were wrong either way. Not to mention that jim the so-called mechanic is the one who sold it to me. Right after the battery died the radio took a crap. They also charged me extra 4 tax tags and title which was supposed to be included in the $2,000 that they wanted for the car. I tried to negotiate with them seeing that it was under a month that i actually had the car in my possession i explained to jim what the police told me about being all rusted but they insisted i had the car too long and that they weren't going to do anything about it. So here we are. I have a personal injury case going on right now, i was told i needed your type of attorney to fight llapi auto sales hudson fla. Flora is the person who "made the sale" (her number is 727-478-5632), but it was jim the mechanic who really sold me the car, that's why i trusted his word it was safe.

The vehicle experienced sudden acceleration.
When applying brakes, engine revs up really high.consumer can barely control car, even with foot on brakes. Dealer could not duplicate problem.
Vehicle will accelerate without prior warning, while applying brakes vehicleroars up. Dealership is aware ofproblem.

Why is chrysler allowed to get away with their rim problems? we have had issues with two separate chrysler vehicles' rims being unsuitable for consumer safety. One caused a blowout on an interstate highway, the other causes constant air pressure issues. The rim actually has a corrosion crack on the flat part of the rim, not even on the bead (that is the problem with the other rim). If you have a chrysler, have your rims checked regularly. Chrysler conveniently kept this off their warranty program. Perhaps they knew something???
Dt:the wheels corroded from the inside at the center hubs. Thishappened on all four wheels.the consumer took thevehicle to the dealerfor a state inspection last week and the inspector found this problem. Contacted manufacturer, and was told to take the vehicle to the dealer, but this was not covered under warranty. The consumer was going to replace all four wheels, one wheel was almost completely corroded. Consumerwas still driving the vehicle. There was no mailing address provided for the dealer by the consumer.
Consumer states:noticed air leaking from tires.chrome wheels were corroded, and it caused the tires to leak. However, dealerconfirmedthat they wanted to charge consumerout of pocket to fix it.
Dt*:the contact stated the aluminum wheels have become pitted over time with normal use.the pits allowed air to escape through the sidewall, where the rim and tire meet. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the wheels needed to be replaced with stainless steel in order to avoid the same problem in the future.
My front passenger tire was low and would not keep air.my tires are original to the car.i thought that i just had a slow leak.took the car to repair shop to have tire checked out.was told by technician at repair shop that the chrome is severely peeling off the rim causing bead not to seal.the technician said he has never seen anything like it and that my wheel looked like it was ten years old already.was informed by them that the chrome continually flakes off and doesn't allow the bead to seal to the rim.they noted this problem on my invoice.
For some time now i have been forced to replace all my tires once, and bring my car into ntb multiple times regarding my tires going flat despite that the car could sit in my garage all week, after speaking with ntb they said they deal with these things all the time, a chrysler pulls in and he can tell you exactly what is wrong with it. The wheel rim on the chrome ones, are corroding causing a rim leak, this causes many uninformed customers to go out and buy brand new tires when this is not necessary, it also forces customers to waste time either by having their car checked out every month b.c of these leaks or make them stop at a gas station and fill their tires up with air like i do. I please ask you all who read this to write to chrysler to explain to them this poor performance, ihave read others complaints which could lead to blow outs, as far as i last checked this is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed and addressed now!chrylser get off your lazy butts and do something before someone gets hurt or worse killed, and if that happens i hope they sue your company to bankruptcy and i'll be happy buying foreign.
Since i have purchase my new car, 2002 chrysler sebring, keeping the tires inflated have been a problem. At first i thought it was the tires. The car has been serviced by goodyear and the car still has problems holding air in the tires. Later i changed tire manufacturers and had firestone tires put on. The tires still need air put in them every 2-3 days. Firestone has serviced the leak on several occasions. We tried putting tubes in the tires and i have gone through 3 tubes in two weeks. There is a defect in the rims stocked from chrysler. It is not a tire problem. These aluminum rims are not covered under standard or extended warranty. Firestone mentioned that they have a chrysler 300m with the same problem as mine. The tires won't seal on the rims. I have heard of other chryslers with the same problem and would like to launch a formal complaint to have this looked into. It is not safe to drive the car with this problem (low tire pressure and flat tires). Last night i walked to the dark parking lot after work to find another flat tire on my car again. Please help make chrysler own fixing this problem.
For the past several months , my tires have been losing air- i thought that perhaps this was caused by the extreme temperatures. I continued to make sure my tires were at the correct level. Three weeks ago, i had a blow-outwhile traveling home from atlantic city, nj.. The tire was replaced the next day... A few days later, the new tire, as well as the others, continued to lose air..i brought back to the service station and was told i would now need another tire.all tires continued to lose air- i brought to the service station again and it was discoveredthat all my rims are cracking and the sharp edges are cutting into the stem valves and causing my tires to go flat. Ihave now had to replace 2 tires that should have lasted me quite a bit longer and this problem will continue to occur as long as my rims are in the condition they are.i was told that it was inadvisable to go anywhere long distance until this problem is resolved. I have made an appointment today at the dealership for them to inspect and hopefully work with me on this defective issue. I have also contacted chysler's customer service center and reported to themthis safe issue. Please document and contact me with any further information.thank you-jo ann worbetz.
Dt:the consumer states that at approximately six or seven weeks ago he noticed air leaking froma tire after checkingthe tire with a gauge.the consumer took the tire to a tire repair company, and was told that there was a problem with the aluminum rim.they stated that the chrome flakes off and doesn't allow the bead to seal to the rim.this is the original tire for the vehicle.the tire is located on the front passenger side.*sc
I am having problems with my tires.they keep leaking and lug nuts won't tighten.i've been told by two garages that my rims are defective and of poor quality.rims are oxidated and corroded on my 2002 chrysler sebring.i've been told that driving this car is dangerous.
Dt*: the contact stated all 4 rims on the vehicle are corroding.the aluminum is shredding off the rims, which is causing the tires to loose air pressure.the left rear tire seal will not hold air at all.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.a representative from the manufacturer inspected the rims and agreed the rims were corroding and would replace only 2 of the rims however repairs were not made.the vehicle is not being driven.
