The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring. The contact noticed that the air bag warning light was illuminated on a consistent basis. When the horn was engaged it failed to function. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised her that the clock spring failed and needed to bereplaced. The vehicle was repaired for the clock spring. The failure and current mileage was approximately 109,000. The vin was unavailable.

Bought used in 2007 sebring 2001 at 87k miles. At round 95k, while pulling out of parking space, heard cracking noise in steering wheel..resulting in no horn, air bag light cont illuminated so can't tell if there's a problem, and no cruise control. Took car to private dealer and diagnosed clock spring, but chrysler says its not under recall protection any longer!!! crazy, i know! also, since purchase have many probs with electrical dash probs ie flashing on/dimming and radio just turning off...also not covered! and had strange humming noise since purchase while driving...finally found out what it was and had to replace both front hubs. All of these safety issues seem to be a continuing prob with other drivers as per the complaints i've read here at least as far back as i read (thru 2006). Why is chrysler not being made to rectify at least the air bag (clock spring) issue they already admitted to???? really kind of the same thing with the elect issues too, but i kind of understand poss issues with that after so many miles. Would really like help/advice on how to make chrysler take responsibility for that expensive clockspring/air bad issue.

The dash, radio, & cd player lights flash off and on intermittently. This occurs on random occasions. It also happens when operating the turn signal. The lights will dim low and will not return to a "normal" brightness until you adjust the turn signal arm.or the lights completely go off. Turn off the car and the displays will start up. The suspension problem is the noise of metal and banging in the suspension. The air bags, horn do not work as well as cruise control. The a/c fails to work most of the time.

Clockspring: i have a 2001 chrysler sebring and my airbag light is illuminated, therefore my airbag will not work. My horn and cruise control will not work either.

Air bag light came on as i was pulling out of a parking lot. Turning the steering wheel, it made a bit of a crunching sound. Light stayed on; sound happened whenever steerting wheel turned. Called mechanic and was told the car is unsafe to drive as the air bag may deploy. Further diagnostic revealed the need for a replacement clock spring for the air bag which is an expensive repair but the car was deemed too unsafe to drive as it is. Some time back, i was hearing a squeaking while turning the wheels very slowly and thought it was a tire issue, but nothing appeared to be a problem there.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 16v401000 (air bags); however the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect. Updated 05/17/17*lj updated 09/07/2017

I had to slam on my brakes and had a passenger in the car with me.nothing deployed...but the airbag light came on the next day...well i took it to dinovos and they said the passenger seat belt pre tensioner was open...cleaned it and greased it and the light went off...if i was in an actual wreck..would i have had an airbag..that is the question of the day.

When the vehicle hit a dip in the road the drivers and passenger side airbags deployed.*nlm

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.the contact took the vehicle to a repair shop to have the shock absorber replaced and the mechanic noticed that the air bag light was illuminated on the instrument panel.the day before, the contact made a right turn in the vehicle and heard a crackling noise accompanied by the air bag light illuminating.the failure and current mileages were 64,000. Updated 9/3/09 the consumer stated chrysler authorized the repair to replace theclockspring, but she was charged $155.00. Updated 09/04/09.

The contacted called the dealer months ago and they indicated that the part had not been available to schedule the recall repair. The contact was unable to verify when the vehicle would be repaired and was advised to contact the manufacturer to determine when the parts may be supplied to the dealer. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

Started the vehicle and the air bag light lite up and i heard a chime, after about 15 seconds it went off and then kept repeating this cycle.

Consumer stateswhile driving at 40 mph the consumer ran off the road and flipped the vehicle several times and none of the front or rear air bags deployed. Contacted dealer. Please provide further information.

I was going down 250 at 40 mph and a woman stopped in front of me not giving me enough time to stop and i rear-ended her. The front drivers side was smashed and the airbag did not deploy. I was taking to the emergency room with injury to my back and head.

The gray coating to the air bag cover started peeling two months after i bought the car.i brought it in to get fixed and the dealership replaced the wrong part.the person who replaced the wrong part damaged that part (steering wheel) and they had to replace both parts again.i finally got both parts replaced 8/01 and the air bag started peeling again three weeks later.there is an obvious defect in the material.

The contact owned a 2001 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, she attempted to avoid another vehicle from crashing into the vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed into a concrete wall and the air bags deployed. The front passenger sustained face injuries from the plastic cover from the air bags and required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a police lot. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that there was an abnormal cracking and popping sound coming from the steering wheel. The air bag then deployed inadvertently. The contact was not injured. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 00v306000 (air bags) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vin was not included in the recall campaign. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,300.

Heard something rip or break inside steering wheel when pulling out of a parking space, followed by the air bag light turning on.no problemswith steering, but fear a costly repair for the air bag and or clock spring mechanism.had to replace hub bearings 3 times.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision oat 40 mph and neither air bag deployed.dealer and manufacturer were not notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further information.

My wife was in a frontal crash with enough impact to nearly push the engine into the passenger compartment.the car was totaled by the insurance company.the air bags never deployed.i believe this was defective equipment or design. I do have digital pictures that show the extent of damage.

Driver was involved in a frontal collision. Upon impact both frontal air bags failed to deploy. Driver sustained minor injuries. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.

Consumer's vehicle was involved in a front end collision while driving at 20 mph and the front air bags did not deploy.there was no indication or warning that there was a problem with the air bags before the collision.*ph *nlm

Driver's airbag did not deploy in front end collision.

Airbag/clockspring failure. Was in front end crash at 25-30mph and airbags did not go off. This was on 06-26-04 got the car fix at earnhardt auto body a five star dealer.on 10-09-04 the airbag light came on. So i took it back they said they would call my insurance to see if they would cover the work. They would if it was from the crash. The computer showed no error code so i had to pay. Body shop said they can't fix i would have to take to service.but the tech at body said it was a bad clockspring. So on 10-11-04 i took to service and they told me they would have to do a diagnostic which i had just paid for at there body shop. I told them this but this did'nt matter.but i need my car getting to work. So i let them keep it for a diagnostic. A few hours later they called and said it was a bad clockspring and it would cost about $481.00. Because my warranty was up in time not miles. Was up by abot a month and week or two. I ask them if this was a safety concern and they no. Call for more info on this story.

While driving approximately 30 mph brake pedal fell apart, causing vehicle to hit a temporary concrete wall in a construction zone.upon impact, front air bags did not deploy. Driversustained minor injuries to the head and arms. The rubber grip on the brakes popped off when brakes were applied.consumer noted the air bags were a design flaw since they didn't deploy even though there are two sensors. Vehicle has been repaired. (father on behalf on son). *ph

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.while at a stop light, the passenger side air bag suddenly exploded and shattered part of the windshield.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the entire air bag needed to be replaced.there were no injuries.the current and failure mileages were 62,299. Consumer states that while driving at 30 mph the consumer hit a pot hole in the road and with out any warning the two front air bags deployed, the passenger side air bag went throught the windshield glass. Mr

December of 2002 - rear window defogger quit. Wire connector came loose from rear window. Could not be repaired. Window had to be replaced to fix problem. May of 2004- air bag indicator came on and chime sounded. Sensor or some sort replaced at an expense of over $300.00june of 2005 - repeat or above problem. Appointment to bring car in for servicing on june 28th. June of 2005 - repeat of rear window defogger. Item has not worked for months. I have run a report on mycarstats.com and have found both of these problems with other owners of this model. Appears we have a problem here. I should not have had to pay for the air bag problem the first time and i certainly shouldn't have to pay next week when i bring it in for servicing.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.whenever the contact comes to a complete stop, the vehicle will suddenly shut off.occasionally, the vehicle does not immediately restart.he also noticed that the vehicle would suddenly stall while accelerating past 60 mph.in addition, the radio and instrument panel lights stop working whenever the check engine indicator illuminates.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 82,000.updated 11/28/08the consumer believed the camshaft sensor was rubbing the wiring causing it to heat the wiring under the protective shield and slowlygrounding out the electrical system. Updated 12/02/08.

1.normal use of fan blower with a/c or heater in a 2001 chrysler sebring sedan lxi.2.blower becomes inoperative intermittently at all speeds with either a/c or heater on.the intermittent part of the problem has been occurring since my wife bought the car new. Fan blower motor was replaced twice, blower resistor block was replaced three times. In troubleshooting the problem, i found that the contacts of the power wire from the blower fan to the blower resistor at the resistor electrical connector developed a high resistance thus causing the contacts to overheat.the contacts overheated to the point of melting both sides the connector's plastic together.in order to replace the resistor, i had to break the plastic of the resistor connector in order to remove it.further examination revealed the presence of a smoke trail coming from the pin 1 (power wire) side of the connector.several days before, i thought i detected the odorof a burning electrical component. If the contact had not changed, thus lowering the resistance, a fire would definitely result.the melted plastic of the connector ends leads me to say that a fire did occur.the resistance was high enough to melt the plastic, but not blow the 30 amp fuse.3.the electrical connector blower resistor was cut off.since there are no replacement connectors available, i used insulated female "spade" quick disconnect terminals crimped to each wire to connect the blower resistor.a small dab of rtv silicon was applied to each terminal to help lock them in place.before reinstalling a new blower resistor, i enlarged the hole to the air duct where the resistor mounts into.the original hole cut out from the factory was too small for the resistor to easily fit into.this i feel contributes to the problem.i have kept the old parts as evidence.

I have had electrical system go out twice while driving.the tires were replaced at 22,000 because they were worn out. Stering wheel vibrates to the point it is inoperable.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring. The contact stated the horn and the drivers rear window failed to function properly. The horn would not work and the window would not open or close.the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic test that located the failure within the window regulator and the horn wires. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.updated 8/30/11 updated 09/26/11

Dashboard cluster lights work intermittently and other electrical problems.talked to a auto electric specialist who told me this is a known problem and has had several customers with same problem.the dealership must repair the problem because they are the only ones with the equipment to fix it and the dealers are charging over $1,500 to fix.with so many people having the same problem it seems like it should be on the recall list.it certainly is a safety problem.

2001 chrysler sebring turns off while driving - the exact same problem as the hundreds of thousands of chryslers recalled last year. Everyone wants to try a body control module, fuel pump, new crank shaft but the problem keeps occurring - perhaps because they were not aware of this recall/problem as not even my local chrysler dealership knew. This has happened to me frequently over the past 1.5-2 years or so, it comes and goes. I was rear ended once but it was light enough (thank god) that it did not cause any damage. Extremely dangerous. Almost a quarter of a million chrysler vehicles were recalled last year for this problem. As of right now, i believe just van/crossover models - why not all models with this same problem? please leave your complaints on the message boards alone and bring them to nhtsa so that chrysler can be held accountable for these issues.

After it rained, water collected in a puddle on the back interior floorboard.the dealer previously suspected the water came from the door seals and replaced them, however the leak resurfaced and it did not come from door seals.consumer believed the leak came from the chassis.other problems are as followed:cd player malfunctioned, a/c unit failed and was repaired two times, the door panel was replaced, the steering column was replaced/squealed when turned/repair kit was installed/clockspring was replaced, the vehicle wouldn't start, there were electrical problems, a loud sound had come from the brakes, the window buttons were loose at the switch, and the engine cranked but did not start and was found to be flooded.scc

The passenger rear and front floor is completely soaked after driving in the rain.the service technician stated that there is a leak in both the front and rear doors.at the same time, the heater/ac fan does not work.it will only be on when the selector is turned to 4, otherwise it is off.technican says the resistor is blown.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.the contact stated that while traveling 10 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact smelled a burning odor coming from the vehicle.the vehicle failed to restart. Upon inspection, it was found that the wires in the interior fuse box melted. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 92,000.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring lx1. While driving, the vehicle stalled and would not shift out of first gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the electrical wiring caused the failure to occur. The vehicle was not serviced. The failure and the current mileages were 119,000.

Consumer states per dealership there was signficant electrical faultiness to ignite the wiring installation and immediate combustibles into open flame. Vehicle was totalled.

After stopping and parking car, it was a completely dead sound when i tried to start it again. This has happened twice so far in a month. I jacked up the car on drivers side, just let down the jack; and it started both times. The locks don't work and the windows can only be controlled by the driver. Checked all fuses but the bottom line is this car has electrical problems.

None of the gauges work on the dash. Such as the odometer the gas gauge, the radio. I really don't know what led up to the failure. For this is a used car.

Dt*: the contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the gauges oscillated back and forth rapidly before returning to normal.the dealership determined the instrument panel needed to be replaced.the repair was not made and the problem corrected itself.the consumer stated whenever he went to accelerate, the needle would not move. On friday, april 16th i noticed my battery light on in my car as i drove home.that evening we drove my car to a friends and noticed the light stayed on.when we got there, 3 people looked at my car and noticed that my alternator was smoking and smelt hot, the wire that goes into the alternator was burnt completely in two and was seperated from the alternator.it was thankfully touching just enough to keep my car running.the next day, they took my alternator out of my car and one side was completely melted.we called serveral parts stores and were told by each one that chrysler has not released some of its parts to be sold yet, and the alternator was one of them.leaving us to only go to a dealer to have it replaced and pay numerous charges to have it replaced when we could of done it ourself.one, a 3yr old car, should not be having problems with an alternator yet unless its faulty, two it definetely shouldn't be catching on fire, three, chrysler should be letting parts stores sell their parts....

Sporadically the fuse that controls the starter and fuel pump blew upon starting the vehicle. When the fuse is replaced everything is fine. On 1 occasion when this occurred 12 fuses where replaced, and they all blew out when the vehicle was restarted.the starter was diagnosed as the problem and replaced. The following day the problem recurred.dealership kept the vehicle for a week, and indicated that they were not able to get the problem to constantly recur in order to further diagnose the problem.

On december 13, 2003 i was involved in a car accident where damage was sustanined to the front driver side of the vehicle. Since the acccident the radio has not worked. The insurance company did not find that the problem with the radio was as a result of the accident. The car dealer indicated that there may have been a defect with the radio. The radio has not been replaced or fixed.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, she noticed an abnormal rubber smell as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was driven onto the emergency lane and was restarted after approximately one hour. Additionally, the contact added freon to the vehicle.the vehicle was drivable but continued leaking freon. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who indicated that the water pump needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified.the approximate failure mileage was 131,000.

Engine failure due to sludge buildup despite better than recommended maintenance.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.while driving 35 mph, the contact heard a knocking noise coming from the vehicle.the vehicle is currently at the garage and the cause of failure was diagnosed as the timing chain and housing.the powertrain was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 53,813.

2001 chrysler sebring 2.7l motor. 69000 miles. Motor quit. Diagnosed as broken timing chain, new motor needed $6,900. Failure occurred while driving, motor just stopped. I was fortunate to get to the side of the road without an accident.

While driving 30 mph engine seized. Asresult, vehicle stalled in traffic, and had to have it towed.dealer stated that sludgebuilt up in the engine.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled without warning.in addition, there was smoke coming from under the hood.the dealer advised the contact that the recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 00v299002 (engine and engine cooling: engine) was not associated with the contact's vin.a local mechanic inspected the vehicle and diagnosed that antifreeze leaked into the engine, causing the vehicle to stall.the failure and the current mileage was 138,000.

Smoking (oil burning everywhere) oil pressure switch failed apr. 07. Had major tune up done in aug. 07. Then had battery troublecar died had towed to shop, mec. Checked battery and recharged it said to replace it soon, then thenext day heard a ticking noise and a big clunk on my way to work but went to the shop instead they found intermix through-out, head gasket failure.

On or about march 30, 2004 my car developed a ticking noise.i discovered the noise when ordering food at a drive through window. The noise was only evident when i had my window down.my car also had no heat by this time.over the last two winters i would not have heat when the car was idle, but this year it had gradually deteriorated to no heat when idle or upon accelaration.according to the ower's manual no antifreeze would cause this problem. The car was low on oil and had no antifreeze.i took the car to an independent mechanic for an oil change and to check the antifreeze.the owner's manual stated you needed to do something special to add antifreeze, but the manual fail to tell you what that something special was.the oil was changed and the antifreeze was filled.the ticking noise persisted and then the red oil lamp came on one week after having this service performed.i made another appointment with the independent mechanic to see what was causing the ticking noise.after checking my car over i received a call saying that it appeared i needed a new engine, the anitfreeze that had been put in two weeks prior was completely gone.my car had no visible signs of leakage.where did the antifreeze go?why is my low oil light coming on as well?it appears that the 2.7l engine fails regardless of maintenance due to design of the engine (limiting passage of oil) and this failure is also linked to the antifreeze leakage over time, causing the engine to over heat and build up sludge.the dealer then tells you that engine problem is due to sludge build-up or rather poor maintenance on your part and voids the warrantyor refuses any assistance in the repair expense.my engine failed at approximately 52,000 miles.this problem is costing consumers thousands of dollars.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring convertible.while driving 75 mph on the freeway, the engine shut off and the vehicle lost all power.the contact pulled the vehicle over and had it towed to an independent mechanic.after inspecting the vehicle, the mechanic noticed sludge build-up.he also observed leaks in the head gasket and radiator, and engine and transmission failure.the contact feels that the vehicle is unsafe to drive because a crash could have occurred on the freeway.the current and failure mileages were 98,000.

This was the second failure of chrysler's 2.7 v-6 engine. Neither engine failure warranty was upheld by providers. First one was at 49000 miles and failed due to engine sludge, extended warranty was not honored due to owner neglect, even though i provided all receipts for all oil changes required. This problem seems to be common for premature failure of this engine. I purchased a new engine and 3 years and 14000 miles another failure occurred. This time no reason could be found for the failure and in spite of mechanics statement that all fluids were present at time of engine removal to be shipped for inspection, it was determined to be owner caused and warranty not honored. Currently engine is being examined by a third party independent facility to determine cause for a future legal action.

Engine failure driving in traffic- just luck i was not hit by another vehicle... Was able to pull over to curbside with forward momentum and then get vehicle towed. Could have been catastrophic on a busy day or on a more crowded highway.

While driving my 2001 chrsyler sebring all of sudden knocking and tapping noise started.proceeded to pull over and turned the car off.attempted to restart vehicle and it would not start. Call towing company and had it towed to chrsyler dealership.paid for diagnostics and was told that it was engine failure due to oil slug.car is inoperable.this 2.7l engine has been known for engine failure and chrsyler indicated that it was due to lack of maintenance.oil changes were made according to the owners manual and this should not have occurred.

Heard knocking coming from the engine at around 59,000 miles.said to be the result of oil sludge. Was told that i need a new engine at a cost of $6000.00. Haven't replaced engine. Still have to make the car payments on a car that does not work.

Engine on my 2001 sebring sedan is idling roughly from loss of compression in one or two cylinders. Car had just over 60,000 mile when it started and dealer took car for two days, charged me hundreds of dollars to clean injectors and replace the injector in the low compression cylinder, and couldn't fix the problem. Then stated it's probably the engine but i just went over the 60,000 coverage and a repairwouldn't be covered.i maintained the vehicle and have records for all work done on it since i bought it new. Chrysler should make good to repair or replace the problem whatever it is since i'm now becoming aware of many other sludge problems in the same 2.7 6 cyl engine which apparently has defects in itsmanufacturing.

On friday june 11, 2010, i was involved in an automobile accident.my car, a chrysler 2001 sebring lxi failed to stop when the brakes were applied.i steered the car away from rear-ending the vehicle in front of me avoiding a crash.however, i steered my car between two lanes of stationary traffic.while going into traffic exiting off highway 270.i tried to apply the brakes but the car wouldn't stop.the engine revved up and the car wouldn't stop.my car made contact with a mini van.my passenger side view mirror struck the mini van causing damage to both the mini van and my car.i contacted my insurance company immediately.the driver of the mini van and i exchanged information and i called a tow truck to tow my car to my home.the following wednesday june 16, 2010.. Farmers insurance adjuster paul gallagher contacted me.i received a rent-a-car from enterprise leasing.today, june 16, i contacted the chrysler coporation to voice my complaint and i was told that a contact investigator would contact me within 3 days.i told them i need authorization for a rent-a-car while they investigate the crash.i asked that a supervisor contact me to advise about the rent-a-car.shortly after, i was contacted by the supervisor and he told me to get my car fixed and i would not receive any assistance from chrysler.i went online and contacted your agency and found that chrysler knew that my 2001 chrysler sebring lxi, was on the recall list since november 2000.i would like your assistance with this matter because my granddaughter, the driver of the mini van, and myself could have been seriously hurt. I need cooperation from chrysler corporation.i will contact my adjuster to inform him of the recall notice that i discovered on your website. I'm afraid to drive that car and my car only has 68,000 miles and is in mint condition.i have records of every oil change and other repairs that have been made.i need help.

I have a 2001 chrysler sebring lxi2.7l v6 sedan. On february 28, 2009, engine overheated and failed on highway i-77 north. I pulled out of traffic as asap. Engine locked up and would not start. Engine ruined. Car had to be towed from hwy. Car ran perfectly before going on the hwy. I have service records to prove the oil was changed with synthetic oil every 3,000 miles. I have a receipt to prove i topped off the coolant prior to the engine failure. My extended warranty denied the claim on march 3. I found that extended warranties either reject these claims automatically or pay them and then cancel your coverage. After denial, i researched the problem and found that this chrysler model has had numerous complaints due to engine and cooling defects, including the engine itself, the water outlet/coolant arm, and head gasket. Engine failure happens frequently to consumers driving 60 mph or faster (highway conditions). Consumers report that this problem occurs despite proper maintenance of the car. There is no warning prior to engine overheating and failure. You don't know there's a problem until smoke starts. My car smoked long before the temperature gauge showed red hot. The hand was still in the middle when smoke first started. Local mechanics, salvage yards, and even chrysler master techs confirmed these problems and that you cannot foresee them. Chrysler should have issued a recall regarding these problems but never did. The only engine-related recall actually issued was for the harness for the crankshaft position sensor. Obviously, chrysler has tried to avoid such costly replacements. A new, remanufactured engine (without the original defects) costs around $6200 in my area. My problem came from chrysler defects. Chrysler should be required to install a brand new, remanufactured engine and all other damaged parts at no charge to me.chrysler should also pay for the towing of my car to a chrysler service shop and reimburse me for the previous tows.

While driving my newly bought 2001 chrysler sebring, i started hearing some rattling sounds and saw smoke coming from the engine. I was in the middle of the highway andi prayed that it would die on me as i tried to exit to the next gas station. Luckily i managed to exit and parked at the station. I quickly took out my two sons and my wife from the car because i didn't know what was going to happen. I then called a mechanic and had the car towed to a chrysler dodge dealership. I was told that the car needs a new engine at a cost of $5000. I am still in shock. Looking online i found out that there are thousands of people who have reported similar engine problems on this particular 2.7l engine. I think that chrysler should be held accountable for their inadequate standards especially with this kind of engine. My family's life was in danger and i hope that you will help me resolve this issue. I don't have any money to buy a new engine. Thanks.

My sebring died today literally 6 seconds from home. I pulled out into traffic from the local mijer and it died!i just sank a bunch of cash into it to which makes this really great. Around last june i noticed a rattling that kind of made the car sound like a diesel semi. Trouble was it would happen during initial startingand kick out and go back to normal after 5 - 10 min. So naturally no professional ever heard this rattle as by the time i got it into a shop it seemed fine!!! even better, in the last couple of months a new problem cropped up you might be familiar with the flickeringlow oil pressure gauge at idol? that's just the beginning. It gradually required higher rpm to make it fade away and eventually always on. Well $200.00 replaces the oil sensor but don't expect that to fix the problem you just get to start the process all over again!!!two days ago i had it in again for a cam shaft sensor another $200.00 and the mechanic warns me not to invest too much more into this pos because the rattling and the low oil pressure are probably a sign that the engine is going. "it could be two months it could be two years but it's going go." how about two days. Engine failure!!!!!!!to any one willing to give it a try, i wish i did if only for feeling proactive is you can purchase a pure one purelite oil filter which will add 5lbs of pressure to the system and run a thicker oil. This advice i received from chrysler's head mechanic! a busy man im guessing. He said that the rattling was because low oil pressure was not pushing it up into the (technical mumbo jumbo) im no pro. For the record i did not do this. It's winter here! and this fancy oil filter is not sold any where i know short of ordering online. The best part is i was planning to figure it out tomorrow on my only day off in two weeks! my wife's ford has twice the miles my sebring does and at least it still runs!!!! a ford!!!!

I was driving down the road when i heard a loud knocking noise.my car stalled.i was able to restart the car and drive home.i was informed that the rod bearing had gone out and the motor would have to be replaced.after a few days of talking to chrysler they told me to take it to one of their dealerships so they can look at it at my cost.the car had 82,121 miles on it so there was no warranty.chrysler gave me the run around for about a week. They wanted to charge me 200 to 400 $ just to look at it.i was told that chrysler would not pay for any thing because of excess sludge in the motor.need less to say i went to a different company to put in a remanufacture motor.these 2.7 liter apparently has a lot a defects.

While driving the engine seized up. There was no warning. The blocked had to be replaced. Please provide any further information.

While driving 55 mph vehicle stalled.consumer managed to pull over, and had the vehicle towed.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

After i received a tune up of my vehicle, it started a problem.after my car has been running for about 20 min, the engine starts to almost die out, then come back to life.this is w/o using ac or heat.however, if i use my a/c or heat, it becomes much worse.in both situations, w/or w/o ac & heat, the problem became so bad my car died out.the dealer doesn't know what's wrong with my car, and claimed it did not do this to them when they had it in their possession.i myself, have changed the air filter, got an oil change, changed my trans fluid, pcv valve, & put in fuel injector cleaner.the problem has not stopped.when i took my car to murrays auto parts, they did a diagnostic test, giving it the code p1391 misfire code.i called the dealer to find out this code, nobody had any idea what it meant.every time i have spoken with the dealer, they deny they had anything to do with it, and put me off like i don't know what im talking about.i just want my car fixed.

I was driving down the road when i heard a loud knocking noise.my car staled, i was able to restart the car and drive home.i was informed that the rod bearing had gone out and the motor would have to be replaced.after a few days of talking to chrysler they told me to take it to one of their dealerships so they can look at it at my cost.the car had 82,121 miles on it so there was no warranty.chrysler gave me the run around for about a week. The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.the vehicle has had engine failure due to sludge.there were no warning indicators prior to the engine failure.the contact noticed the failure when she started the vehicle and it made a terrible sound.the dealer stated that the vehicle needed a new engine due to improper maintenance.the contact stated that her vehicle was routinely serviced for scheduled maintenance.through research, she discovered numerous complaints on the same failure, but no recalls.the vehicle is currently at the dealer and has not been repaired.the vin, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown.the failure and current mileages were 17,000.

My son bought his fist car, a used 2001 chrysler sebring with the 2.7 engine. Day two of driving the car he blew the motor. Dealer says he can't find a replacement motor so i talked to my mechanic about it and he said the 2.7 chrysler motor has a problem with oil sludge that causes the motor to fail. It is a very common problem. Now my son is making car payments on a car that isn't fixable.

I have a 2001 chrysler sebring with the 2.7 liter v6 engine.it has recently experienced engine problems up to and will probably include complete engine failure from oil sludging in the engine. The oil was changed every 5000 miles and we have documentation of these oil changes. The car only has 29500 miles right now. I contacted chrysler and they said that they can not warrant the product because it is out of their warranty period. They even went as far as to say that even if it is a manufacturing defect they can't be held responsible because the car is out of warranty.so basically i am just reporting to you my complaint. I know you probably have received hundreds of other complaints regarding this same issue with this engine. Please urge chrysler to extend their warranties or offer a recall. I have never heard of an engine failing because of oil sludge with only 29500 miles on it.thanks, joe raguse.

Two weeks after a regular oil change, the 2.7l engine on my '01 sebring made a large clunk. The dealership mechanic said it had blown a rod (ruined). Cause of the failure according to dealership was "oil sludge." not covered in warranty. Price quoted for replacement was $7-8000. Mileage at the time was 47443.

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 50 mph, the vehicle's engine blew up on the highway.the contact suffered minor injuries.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic shop who determined that the cause of the engine blow out was due to oil sludge build up and the engine would need to be replaced.the dealer was notified.

Consumer replaced rear defrost on chrysler sebring on numerous occasions.the rear defroster does not work.the rear vision glass needed to be replaced.chrysler offered the consumer a 50/50 split.also the drivers side window rattled, red fluid was found in the consumer's driveway due to transmission pan and cooler line leakage, the convertible was leaking on the drivers side window area due to weather strip and there was a slow leak in the r/r tire due to a hole.*sc

I have a 2001 chrysler sebring with 2.7 liter engine that has failed.

Car enginge shows normal running temperature but when its at idle blows cold heat.withrpms up it blows hotter air.been in shop several times with no cases filed in dodge's database that shows reason for suspision.even swithced dealerships to no avail. All test ran shows normal but car is about to hit its 75000 mile warrenty so im not sure if they are trying to limp me along for future gains. It started in the fall of 2002 and continues to this day had replaced thermostat flushed cooling system tested pressure but nothing.. Ive been told it could be the heater core but thye wont go there unless they have reason to but thats the only thing that hasnt been checkedit never overheats etc..great carbut just has to keep rpms up for heat.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring lxi. While cruising at speeds of less than 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. He was unable to restart the vehicle. The dealer stated that the water pump caused the radiator fluid to leak into the engine. He would also need to replace the engine. There were no recalls for the failure. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure and currently mileages were 137,000.

Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle is at an idle, the engine intermittently stalled without warning.the vehicle restarted without any problems.the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer.there is a nhtsa recall #00v299002 regarding the engine. The vin was not included in the recall.the manufacturer was alerted.

Engine surges and dies out.standed on interstate, no accident.after replacement of camshaft and crankshaft sensors, determined that problem was with wiring harness.identified recall notice from nhtsa, 00v29902.after contacting chrysler several times, they do not have any information on the recall nor acknoledge any recalls for my vehicle.

-the contact stated that the water outlet housing failed and all of the water in the engine came out along with a lot of steam.the contact stated that the water pump was replaced and that the gaskets were worn and leaking oil.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.intermittently, the vehicle experiences catastrophic engine failure.the vehicle also locks up without warning.the contact's son is a mechanic and inspected the vehicle with the oil dipstick.he started the engine and heard a knocking sound, and then the vehicle shut off.the manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer for a diagnostic; however, the contact would be responsible for the expenses.the failure mileage was 60,100.

When driving any speed, the consumer heard a tapping noise coming from under the hood. The mechanic informed the consumer that the problem was pertaining to engine sludge.

I have a 2001 chrysler sebring that stopped running on the express way and come to find out it was my motor that had failed. The only thing that happened prior to the engine blowing was a slight noise and then it quit.i changed my oil every 3000 miles like recommended but obviously that didn't matter.i've replaced my whole engine with a rebuilt one but i'm extremely disappointed in chrysler.

Engine failed without warning while driving.dealer was not able to determine cause.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55 mph on a dry highway, a very loud noise that sounded like the engine revved was heard.the oil light illuminated and the vehicle stalled.there were no lights illuminated prior to the noise.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined the engine needed to be replaced. There were no problems with the vehicle prior to the incident.the oil changes were maintained every 3,000 miles. Updated 10/4/2006 - the wheels corroded causing the tires to lose air.each time the tires were rotated the wheel caps came loose and fell off.the caps have been replaced twice.

2001 chrysler sebring 2.7l24v dohc engine failure- completely dead and left me on highway. Water pump failed, timing chain inside engine broke ruined engine. Had to replace for $8000.00.

Engine quit at 34,000 mi , took to dealer they stated there was sludge in the engine and that the car was neglected do to lack of oil changes "voiding warranty". There appers to be a problem with the 2.7 liter engine. Oil changes were performed at regular intervals between 3k-5k miles.

I am another 2001 sebring owner with a 2.7l engine that has died. My wife was on her way home on the interstate when the motor died with no warning and approximately 10 miles from the nearest exit. Having seen chrysler's lack of concern for the thousands of complaints, i now have a worthless automobile that is worth about $250-500 for a trade or a $4000-8000 engine replacement. It seems that whether you have maintained this car or not, there is no promise of satisfaction from chrysler. My promise to chrysler is that we will never buy another of their vehicles!

Dt:the contact stated there was an irregular engine snapping sound coming from underneath the hood.the contact first thought it was a nail in the tire, but upon inspection it was determined that there was no nail in the tire. The engine first started with the snapping sound, then vibratedwhen the vehicle wasslowing down.the noise has been the same since it started.a certified mechanic inspected the vehicle, and found there wasa service bulletin dealing with this problem. The consumer has contacted the manufacturer; they stated there was no recall.

2.7 liter engine of sebring lxi seized up without warning. Had changed oil 1400 miles prior to failure. Purchased vehicle from auto auction within last 2 months.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.the contact heard a loud noise coming from the engine while driving.she had a mechanic perform an oil change and remove all of the sludge in the engine.two days later, while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning.she was relatively close to her home at the time of the failure; therefore, some of her peers pushed the vehicle back to her house.the mechanic inspected the vehicle and stated that there was a continuous issue with sludge build up and they also noted that the timing chains were failing.the dealer stated that her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 00v299002 (engine and engine cooling:engine).the manufacturer did not provide any assistance.the failure and current mileages were 71,000.

We own a 2001 chrysler sebring that had been well maintained by us for the two years that we owned it.while my daughter was driving back to school the engine seized in the middle lane of a very busy highway, leaving her stranded.we were told this incident was not uncommon in engine 2.7l). So we followed through by contacting isg.(chrysler) were only offering us a very small portion of the cost to replace the engine, so we are out a lot of money, besides the fact that they drugged their feet in this matter ,and our daughter has been without a car since 3/28.i just believe that therewas a definite engineeringproblem with this engine , from what all i saw.and chrysler needed to take a little more responsibility!we will be having a jasper engine installed shortly.

Engine failure driving in traffic- just luck i was not hit by another vehicle... Was able to pull over to curbside with forward momentum and then get vehicle towed. Could have been catastrophic on a busy day or on a more crowded highway.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.while driving 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated and completely shut off.the vehicle would not restart and was towed to an auto service shop.the technician stated that the 2.7 liter engine failed, which was a common issue.the dealer has not been notified and the vehicle has not been repaired.the vehicle is still at the repair shop and will cost $6,000 to repair.the failure and current mileages were 117,000.

Vehilce is a chyrsler seabring convertible (2001).car has been maintained according to schedule.while driving, car died without warning.clanking noise happened under hood and car stalled approximately 30 seconds later.two mechanics have diagnosed the need to replace the motor.quotes to repair range from $3,700 to $8,700.called chysler customer service.was told they will not do anything because vehicle is out of warranty.sent letter to ceo of chrysler usa and have not rec'd response to date.

Consumer had a leak in engine, due to sludge in chrysler sebring. The consumer read an article which mentioned that there are at least 797,000 questionable chrysler engine that could experience sludge problems. The consumer contacted the manufacturer but they refused to provide the consumer with any financial assistance.the dealer claimed that the sludge was the result of oil maintenance neglect.

The engine is gone out.the vehicle has been taken to the dealer for repairs.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.while driving 65 mph, the engine seized without warning.the contact noticed smoke rising from underneath the hood.a local mechanic stated that the head gasket appeared to have failed.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that there was a crack on the cylinder wall and the engine needed to be replaced.the powertrain was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 103,000.

Since i bought my vehicle in 2001 i had problems with my window, steering clicking, power train computer and transmission computer, tapping in the engine, engine failure, crankshaft, now servere knocking.i will not advice anyone to purchase a sebring from chysler.it's sad that chysler not helping correct the problems that their vehicle has.

2.7 liter chrysler engine declared destroyed by sludge buildup.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle was taken to an independent shop for an oil change when the lube specialists heard a knocking sound and suggested that vehicle be inspected by a mechanic.the vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics who determined that the engine was failing and that it had to be replaced.problems with the vehicle's engine increased and the vehicle had to be towed to the service dealers for the parts to be replaced.the contact viewed online that the vehicle was experiencing similar symptoms of recall.

Car overheated, mechanic says a new engine is needed, no repair at this time not drivable.

2001 chrysler sebring with a 2.7 liter engine prematurely failed at 74,000 miles.started having problems at 64,000 miles with excessive engine noise and smoke from the tail pipe. This car was purchased new by myself and maintained per the service schedule in the chrysler manual.the engine gave out about 4 blocks from our home while my wife was driving it, fortunately no one was injured.we have since replaced the defective motor with a jasper remanufactured engine which has several design modifications and a better warranty than the factory engine.

The dodge/chrylser 2.7l engine failure. Engine failed without warning premature.estimated cost of new engine that will also fail, $7400.00.car that failed was a 2001 chrysler sebring with91000 miles.

S10 appropriate handling-letter from regarding 2001 chrysler sebring *tgwthe consumer stated when he turned the steering wheel to the left or the right, he could hear a grinding sound.the dealer found the left lower ball joint was worn, which was the cause of the noise.also, the front struts, oil pan and cooler lines were all leaking, and the drive belts were cracked. The heating and air condition controls were not performing as designed.

Premature engine failure due to sludge.*mrwhile driving, the vehicle just all of a sudden stop running, there were no warning lights.

Purchased a 2001 chrysler sebring new with 101 miles in aug 2001.vehicle currently has 42,000 miles and the engine failed due to sludge build up in the engine.the chrysler's 2.7l engine has many internet documents showing this is a common problem.not covered by chrysler or extended warranty.was driving vehicle 65 mph on a highway at 8:00 am when the car just died.fortunately (although rush hour) no one was directly behind the vehicle.car has not been repaired as chrysler wants $6,000 to fix the engine and the vehicle is only worth $8,800.car is still sitting at dealership.chrysler has not made any changes to this engine so even if repairs are made this problem will keep occurring.

Engine failure only 67,000 mi. Caused by defective engine 2.7l.

While the vehicle was on and parked, the driver heard a loud knocking noise coming from the front. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the engine needed to be replaced. Please provide further details.

Oil changed every 3,000 miles. Knocking started to occur. As i was driving to get it looked at, motor just stopped.2001 chrysler sebring 2.7l motor. 69000 miles. Diagnosed as broken timing chain, new motor needed $6,000-$7,000. Garage had seen quite a few recently with the same problem.one option was to buy a new engine that had been modified to correct original manufacturing problem, or to purchase a new or rebuilt engine.since rebuilt engine was $1000 less than other options went with that option.

Engine failure, oil light comes on.chrysler has installed a mitsubishi engine in sebring model 2001.this engine has had numerous problems associated with oil blockage.they call it sludge.this is a design failure in the ability for the engine to maintain reliable oil pressure to the total engine components and has cause numerous engine replacements.it is a hazard for these vehicles to be on the road.mitsubishi has a voluntary program to support replacement from what i understand.

Oil light started coming on when car was idling or driving slow, kept oil changed regularly and had no leaks or anything. Engine went out while driving down road almost causing an accident.

While driving, car stalled in the middle of the boulevard; restart and drove to nearest parking lot. Hadvehicle towed to automotive shop. Upon investigation found water in oil, 544 other cases filed 2001 chrysler sebring weak engine block failure after 34k miles, we lucked out after 66k miles.

Engine failure in 2001 chrysler sebring with 2.7 l. Engine at approx. 65,000 miles without any forewarning.no warning lights or overheating occurred.engine must now be replaced due to cracked block.chrysler will not pay for any of the repairs.

2001 chrysler sebring lxi 2.7l v6. Vehicle purchased april 2002 as certified 8/80.loud knocking from engine. Engine siezed up on freeway and died. Dealer found timing chains broken, thew a rod, engine failure due to oil sludge build up. Chrysler refused to cover under warranty claiming lack of owner maint. Records.had engine replaced for $7500.00.

While driving consumer heard a loud knocking noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Consumer was able to drive the vehicle home. Consumer has contacted the dealer for an appointment to bring it in. Mechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced.the consumer would like chrysler to recall this vehicle due to the all the other consumer complaints about this vehicle.*tc

I drive a 2001 chrysler sebring.i am still under the extended warranty (fewer than 80,000 miles).the engine, 2.7l, failed on 2/7/08 with absolutely no warning.it was towed to the dealership and i was told that it was my fault because i did not properly maintain the vehicle. Chrysler has already publicly admitted that this engine is faulty which can cause premature engine failure.yet, chrysler is quick to point the finger at me.i was told to gather all of my oil-change receipts (from 2002 - 2008) and forward to chrysler for reconsideration.first of all, if the engine is faulty from the beginning, how can i be judged for properly maintaining an inferior product?what type of guidelines does one follow for taking care of a faulty engine?

Approximately 2 years ago, i had my oil pan gasket replaced (at the advice of the chrysler dealership in fredericksburg, va).when the oil pan was removed, there was sludge at the bottom of it (which was cleaned out).the new gasket and pan were replaced (which seemed to fix any problems my car was having).now, my car is burning oil and coolant and stalls when i slow down.my spark plugs were replaced yesterday and everything seemed okay as it sat idling in the driveway; however, this morning, my car stalled while i was turning through a busy intersection!i have the 2.7l engine and am concerned that my car falls into the same category as the rest of the 2.7l engines (that have sludge build-up from coolant getting into the engine oil).i don't want my engine to seize up before i can afford to purchase a replacement (which will not be another chrysler) since i can blatantly read that no one is getting any satisfaction out of chrysler in replacing their faulty engines.i'm sending this as a preventable measure.

Going to town about two miles from home when the engine made a noise and stopped.the engine would not recrank so had the car towed.find out that the timing chain jumped time and ruin the engine.have not repaired yet.finding that the 2.7 eng has a mutitude of problems.

Have a brand new car and engine oil now leaking.dealer said it is oil galley plug and cylinder head must be removed to fix.

2001 chrysler sebring 4.7liter engine. Had oil changed two weeks ago. The next morning oil was all over top of engine. Returned to shop and determined that oil pressure low. Making loud knocking noise when idle sounds like diesel engine! mechanic stated engine fixing to go.it has only 92,000 miles. Understand that there is a design issue with engine and has still not been recall. Chrysler is well aware of this continuous issue and assume they feelits the consumers problem now since you purchased it. Will never buy another vehicle from chrysler.

I bought a 2001 chrysler sebring with a 2.7 l enginein november 2005. While driving on the interstate 59 from louisiana to alabama on jan. 2, 2006 my engine seized and stopped. I had to pull off of the interstate immediately to keep from getting hit. I had my car towed to a repair shop where they found it had sludge all over the engine. I have kept my car maintained and had an oil change the friday before the incident. There was no indication that something was wrong with the engine. This left me vulnerable to have injured myself or someone else. I was offered an extended warranty when i bought the car, but was told sludge was not covered. I was told i would be responsible for the repairs.

Oil was changed every 3000 miles.no warning lights or any type of warning when my engine failed after only 43,000 miles.it is a 2001 chrysler sebring sedan.after researching i found that these engines 2.7 liter found in the sebring and intrepid are prone to sludge and premature failure.my warranty was up at 36,000 miles and i am going back and forth trying to get some help with these repairs consisting of $4988.45.a new engine should not be needed in a vehicle with 43,000 miles.(and i am not the only one)i have spoken to 5 different mechanics and they are all aware of these engine problems.i was stranded 150 miles from home, it was graduation wk-end so no hotel rooms and no rental cars available.i was outside of kirksville mo. And had to ride with a stranger to get to somewhere that i could phone since my cell phone was out of raduis.

The 2001 chrysler sebring with the 2.7l engine burnt out.it has 55,000 miles on it.the first problem was with the oil light coming on.i took it to kasing dodge in hermitage pa. And they said that it was a wire and fixed it for almost 200 dollars.a week later the engine made noise that sounded like it would explode.i had to towed to kading dodge again and they said that the crankcase bearing broke from oil starvation.they said that it would be over 4000 dollars to put a new engine in.what they did instead was a fix of the broken bearing which cost me another 250 dollars and told me that may work for awhile but they would not guarantee that work.well it did not work.why did they only do same jobs that cost me money when they all know that chrysler is having a possible class action lawsuit against them for this very engine?

Leased new car for 6 months, had oil ahcnge at 3,000 miles, have 5,000 miles now. Entire oil leaked out of the engine and engine stopped.chrysler's waranty will not cover the damage since the plastic guard under the car was litttle broken maybe by hitting a pothall and therefore is my negligence. Cost $2,500 to fix engine.

I have a sludge build up in my 2.7 chrysler seabring lxi 2001. I have faithfuly changed the oil every 3,000 miles. The chrysler factory warranty and most of the extended warranty plans will not cover engine repairs if they find sludge in the engine.my car failed with no warning while driving down the road which could have lead to a serious injuries.

Timing chain failure causing engine failure on my 2001 chrysler sebring my only solution is to let the car sit for the two years i owe on it because the only solution is to replace the engine because it is apparently a design flaw.

The engine on my chrysler sebring (2.7) quit due to excess sludge from a defective design.i called chrysler and was told that my vehicle was out of warranty and that they would not reimburse me any costs.i had regular oil changes and maintenance on my vehicle.the service manager at the dealership stated that they have to repair 6 or 7 cars a year due to engine failure.i had the engine rebuilt at a cost of nearly $2,500.if the dealership had performed the work it would have cost nearly $7,000 and they would have put a new, but the same defective engine in my car.a jasper engine employee documented that chrysler has never done the updates that would have prevented the problem.

The heating and air condition controls were not performing as designed.

Dt:while driving my chrysler sebring the engine just stopped.it starting making a loud noise and then the consumer heard a crunch.when the consumer opened the hood the timing chain had cut a slice out of the plastic value cover. The vehicle was towed to a mechanic where it was confirmed that the timing chain did break.he also told the consumer to search the internet to find out if there were any other complaints on this same motor.the consumer hasn't done any research to see if there has been any recalls on this vehicle yet.

2001 chrysler sebring2.7 liter dohc performed routine maintenance on 9-11-05, due to a long trip. Everything was good as far as fluid levels, performed an oil change, vehicle ran fine oil was not burnt or low oil change interval was on schedule. On 9-12-05 at 9:30 a.m., at interstate speed vehicle shut down, as it shut down temp. Gauge went to the max. My wife and seven month old child were stuck on highway off-ramp. Very hot and humid day about one-hundred miles from home. Towed vehicle back to home area. Vehicle acted as if timing chain had broke. Upon removal of intake and valve cover, twelve intake valves are bent and stuck open do to the timing chain jumping or water pump failure. Have not inspected any lower in the engine yet. Vehicle has 88,374 miles on it. After researching this problem, i found that this is a fairly common problem. Made contact with chrysler to see if their was a possible recall. Chrysler said they do not have any timing problems with this engine, but were very evasive when challenged with questions. Old parts are available.

Tried to stop approx. 1 month ago and first applied barkes, went to floor.i released them and applied them a second time and they stopped me but to avoid a rearend accident, i veered my car to the shoulder.i contacted the service department of tupelo auto sales they asked me where the car was.i told them that it only failed the one time so i was just cautious as i drove on into work.they told me that it would be hard to find until it messed up more often so they could see the problem.i had no more problems until dec. 5th on my way home from work..i started hearing a clanking sound that sounded like i was having a flat tire so i pulled over to check.the tires appeared to be fine.i was only a mile or so from home so i drove on home.once home, i inspected the underside of the car and the wheels but could not see anything different.the following morning, when i left home, the car seemed ok.once i arrived at my first stop sign which is at the bottom of a hill, i applied my brakes and again they went to the floor.the second time i applied them, they caught and i stopped.i turned onto the highway and travelled about 150 feet and the front (seeming) locked up similar to the way it does when you place a car in park and cut off the key.i was headed to the right onto the soft shoulder of the road and was fighting the car because i was headed for the ditch and an electrical generator on the side of the road.the steering or brakes (?) broke loose, sending me into an oncoming pickup, the pickup hit the front of my car, then the truck hit a van which was following me.my airbags did not deploy, my steering locked and my brakes failed, all within 1 1/2 miles of my house.chrysler has sent an investigator to look at the car today, but even he said that it would be difficult to find a problem that only happens periodically.now, even if the car is repaired, i am afraid that i will have the same problem again.i had no blemish on my driving record.

On turning into a main street in our town from a driveway, the inner and outer tie rod ends on the right front wheel on my car pulled apart, resulting in a complete loss of steering control. Due to the low speed involved, i was able to force the car to the curb with no further damage. I had been driving on interstate highway i-89 earlier, and had this failure occurred then, complete loss of control, and the possible death or injury to my wife and i would have occurred. The car was towed to vermont tire, here in south burlington, where the tie rod ends (401-1704 & 401-1737) were replaced and the front end was re-aligned. I have the old parts for inspection, if desired. Total mileage on the car was 62285. Note, the tie rod ends normally thread together. In this case corrosion allowed these parts to pull apart completely. Except for about a half inch at the very top of the threaded end of the rod, the rod could be inserted and withdrawn with little or no resistance, and this is how the failure occurred. There was no warning in the steering control of the car to indicate the failure was about to occur.

At about 51,000 miles my car began making loud squeaking noises from the front end every time you pass over a small bump in the road. It also developed major vibrations in the steering wheel and the brake pedal when the car was slowing up to stop. When i took the car to the chrylser dealer i was told that the inner tie rods were metal to metal and it also needed new rack and pinion steering. This amounts to nearly $1,000 expense on a car just a little more than one year from the time the warranty expired. The car is dangerous to drive since the steering can go out. I had very little advance warning of this problem and am not prepared to invest this kind of money in order to have a safe car for me and my family. We had planned to drive this car on vacation in three weeks. If i had not taken it to the dealer to investigate, it very well might have caused a fatal crash with my two sons in the car.

Also,it sounds as thoughnoise is in structure of vehicle.consumer states sound has been present in vehicle since day one, dealer has replaced the front and rear sway bar link, both bushings, left ball joint, steering gear, differential/transaxle, and now dealer feels the problem is with the exhaust pipe, while driving consumer would make frequent stop and go motions which would make the noise even worse, consumer thinks the problem seemed to be expanding steel when vehicle was hot, dealer listened to the noise through headphones and stated the noise was not coming from the suspension, since dealer can not fix problem, consumer has decided to go through arbitration.when air conditioner is on a loud humming noise can be heard through the vents.

I was taking my son to school and as i turned the corner the ball joint completly popped real loud and my left rear tire caves in completely. Then a week later the right side rear did the same thing except i was on a long stretch road and a loud pop, tire caves in and i started swirling uncontrolably. Unknown as to why or how it just all a sudden popped. I did fix both rear ball joints my receipts are with oriellys auto. And also steering suspension is sounding funny and no mechanic can find the problem.

I purchased a 2001 chrysler sebring 5 years ago.nice looking car, but the engine is total junk.transmission leaks, leaks oil, power steering, massive vibration when at a stop, massive engine noise.engine is junk.had to trade in for a much better and reliable car.i will not purchase chrysler again.

I have had electrical system go out twice while driving.the tires were replaced at 22,000 because they were worn out. Stering wheel vibrates to the point it is inoperable.

I just bought this car from someone that bought it from the action and the shock suspension are totally gone real bd wanted to see if there was a recall on them also other little things.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ball joint and the control arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. On february 14 2012 something on my left driver side wheel broke, i could no long steer and the wheel laid outward toward the ground. There is a long arm like part, that was literally hanging off the wheel. It is now unoperable. This is very dangerous and i am so glad i was only going about 30 mph due to traffic, i was able to move to the shoulder without a auto accident.

It was christmas eve we were leaving a friends house headed home i was at a stop sign making a right turn when i started to smell rubber burning but assumed it was the car ahead of me i started to pick up speed i was in a 35mph zone when we heard a loud boom i pulled over at a local park. I looked to see my driver side back tire was facing inward and would not stand straight i call my father inlaw who is a mechanic and he replaced the lower control arm. I am now having to replace the front passenger side now because it is sitting on the side of the road for a second time.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring.while driving 30 mph, the steering wheel locked and the driver side front wheel assembly detached when making a left turn.the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure; however, he replaced the driver side front axle and both front ball joints.approximately two months later, while driving 5 mph, the steering wheel locked.the contact stated that he had to turn the vehicle off and restart it for it to perform normally.as of december 17, 2007, the mechanic had not inspected the vehicle.the failure mileage was 136,000 and current mileage was 138,888.

The contact owns a 2001 chrysler sebring convertible. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact heard a loud banging noise. The contact pulled over and shut the vehicle off. Upon examining the vehicle, he noticed that the front passenger side wheel became loose. The ball joint fractured from the control arm. The vehicle had not been repaired. The vin was unavailable. The current and failure mileages were approximately 104,000.

While driving in rush hour traffic on a busy interstate, the right front ball joint failed catastrophically and the front end began to shake violently.fortunately i was able to stop quickly and pull into the median.i had the car at the dealership only 2 months prior with "popping" noises in the front suspension.the service department performed an inspection and said "all front end components tight and sound /no failures detected".less than 2,000 miles later, the ball joint failed!what is even more concerning is that the same exact symptoms were experienced 2 years ago and many components of the front suspension (including both ball joints) were replaced.the first occurrence of this problem was at 37,000 miles and cost me $598.66 (since the warranty only covered to 36,000 miles - ironic, huh?).the most recent failure occurred at 63,000 miles and cost me $693.06.upon driving the car into the garage after being towed, the service manager said that the ball joint popped completely out of it's joint and showed me that the tire was only barely hanging on.he also said i was "lucky" thati hadn't went 20 more feet on the freewaybecause the tire would have fallen off and there would have been much more damage and possibly injury.the dealership made the repairs but would not cover any of the expenses.the dealership also would not accept responsibility or refund the cost for the faulty inspection that was performed 2 months prior to the catastrophic failure of the ball joint.

On my 2001 chrysler sebring one of the ball joints on the passenger side front wheel separated in a parking lot, causing the wheel to become detached.the mechanic determined it was rusted out which was surprising since the car only had 37k miles.the vehicle was in michigan and ohio for 5 years and california for 2 years.the mechanic was surprised and he said it normally takes over 100k miles for this type of problem.there were no injuries and the car was repaired (with replacement of all ball joints and the control arms) and i have the parts.

Dt:caller said the wheel fell off indriveway without warning. The topupper ball joint gave way, leaving the bottom ball joint to hold the tire. Dealer said this was normal. Manufacturer has not been contacted yet. Caller has not had it fixed.

Upper ball joint in passenger side rear suspension failed causing the wheel to fold inward with an associated temporary loss of vehicle control. New part was installed and upon inspection, the old ball joint appeared rusty and corroded.

I heard a rattling noise coming from the back end of my 2001 chrysler sebring.i needed to pick up children and intended to look into noise when i got home.about a mile from home on a bumpy country road, the rear passenger side tire blew out.while changing the tire, it was discovered that the strut support had corroded and broken, throwing the shock into my tire.tire is destroyed and strut/shock needed to be replaced.the mechanic looks at the other side and finds that it too is corroded and ready to break.a friend is a mechanic for a chrysler dealer and says he has seen this before and chrysler knows this is a problem, but has not issued a recall.this malfunction sent my car into the oncoming traffic lane, and i was just lucky that i was in the country and no one was coming the other way!the warranty on my car expired 2 months ago.is chrysler in any way responsible for the repair costs?

The rear shock mounts completely corroded away and had to be replaced. I noticed a knocking sound when i would hit a bump and the shock and spring was completely loose from the frame because of the faulty brackets that had failed. Also the radio stopped working when the battery failed and the only thing it will do now is flash the treble/bass lights and will not function.

I have a 2001 chrysler sebring 4 door sedan.since the purchasing the new car directly from the dealer the car has frequently experienced unexpected acceleration.i fortunately have not be injured as a result however, this isa well know problem as my previous chrysler did this as well.it will happen while sitting at a stand stillthe car will propel itself forward and if your foot is not on the brake it will take off.

(1) the course of action when leaving my employment workplace on thursday, july 21, approximately 6:00 p.m. Cst:i started my 2001 chrysler sebring with my remote start (which i have done daily since 2002), got into the car to leave the parking lot, secured my seat belt, and depressed the brake in order to put the car into drive (no cars were parked in front of mine).(2) the moment i put the car into gear (drive) it took off like a bullet without any acceleration.the car was accelerating independently (runaway) and headed toward a 4-lane, busy street.braking had no effect on slowing the car but i could steer.i turned to avoid entering the busy street but crashed into the corner of a brick building.elapsed time from the point of failure to the crash was very short; i estimate it to be 5 seconds.i was injured and hospitalized with a fractured heel bone, ankle bones, and ribs.(3) the car was declared a total loss so there has not been any repair or replacement.

On 3/4/01 my husband was driving the car with his foot on the brake going around 15 mph when the car accelerated, he put the car in neutral to get it to stop. On 5/25/01 i was driving 45 mph when i went to accelerate and the car would not, it felt like the car was in neutral and it was in drive. On 5/25/01 i went to pull into a parking spot with my foot on the barke when suddenly the car accelerated and was out of control. I went over 2 sets of parking blocks hit a sign and crashed into a parked car. After i hit the car my son who was a passenger in the car put the car in neutral to stop it.

Traveling on i 95 south in the city of jacksonville fl - gas pedal stuck while at a speed of 65 and began increasing, it was necessary to use brake with all the force that was possible to control the car - it was at least 2 miles until we could exit the freeway - this was downtown and in an area of construction over a new bridge - there was not the opportunity to leave the road, place the car in neutral or do anything but ride the brakes until we could exit, west side dodge in jacksonville examined the car the morning of 9/17 and found a plastic cap that was used to cover a sensor had not been discarded and had found its' way to the linkage. We are asking the dealer here in south carolina to replace the roters and pads - is there anything else that i should be concerned with? thank you for your time and concern. I have a 2001 chrysler sebring lx sedan. I have had problems in the beginning as far as the digital odometer skipping, and other electrical problems with it. I have called the dealership, and have had it in there for inspection, but they claimed they never found anything. The dealership also never told me about the recalls. I noticed several months ago that the cruise control was causing me to speed without control, so i turned it off and never used it again, thinking i would take it in when i was able, due to the fact that the dealership fluctuated back and forth whether i had 3-year/36k bumper-to-bumper, or 7-year/70k powertrain, although it was with my understanding that the salesman offered both of the warranties.last week, my son was asking me about the cruise control and he turned it on. He experienced the lack of control with the speed. I told him to turn it off and never use it, and that i was going to have it looked at asap. The next evening, my son was driving the car, and he experienced lost of control with the accelerator. In a panic, he tried to pull the emergency brake, but ended up crashing into a guard rail. I have photos to prove that there were no tire marks of any kind at the scene: the policeman claimed that there were 90ft of tire marks, but they have no proof, and there were parents at the scene at that moment who are willing to testify that there were no marks at all. This proves to me that there was failure with the acceleration and/or brakes. This morning, i read in the paper that there was another sebring involved in a crash in the middle of a st. Patrick's day parade, the cause was due to a faulty acceleration system.

When car bought shared driver interior door handle loose. Took back in for warranty repair. Months later power window buttons are falling through same door handle, rendering window inoperable. This failure of the wheel hub cap is the third time that this item has failed and departed the vehicle while it was in motion.the design of the wheel hub on the chrome optional wheels is extremely poor as these hubs do not stay in place.each time i have had to purchase a new hub at $58. These center hubs should be redesigned and replaced on all vehicles.dt

My car (2001 chrylser sebring) came equipped with chromed wheels.apparently the chrome over time cracks allowing air to leak from the tires.as i was driving i noticed that there was a strange vibration from the front so i pulled over and discover the low tire.i reinflated the tire and took it to a repair shop.they told me what the problem was and patched the tire.they also told me that the patch was only temporary and that eventually all the wheels would fail.i would either need to rechrome the wheels or replace them.i took the car back to the dealer who told me that this was normally wear and the wheels were only covered for 3 years even though i have an 7 year warranty. I have not yet decided which option to do but i feel that wheels that can fail like this are a danger.this time i was not driving that fast and the leak was not that bad but it could be worse in the future.also researching the issue over the internet, i discovered many people with this problem across many makes and models.

Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle was idle,a wheel was observed to be cracked and corroded.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer who determined that all 4 wheels were corroded and needed to be replaced.the service dealer also mentioned that this has been a common problem with vehicles of this same year, make and model.the manufacturer was alerted, and offered no additional assistance since the wheels were not covered under a recall.

Driver noticed that all four tires were losing air pressure from the wheels. The wheels contained alumina chromealloy plated, and the seal deteriorated.this caused low tire pressure.driver took vehicle to the dealer, andmechanicdetermined that the wheels would be changed atdriver's expense.

Dtconsumer states the wheels on his vehicle have corroded and caused air to leak out.when the wheels were replaced by the service dealer they stated it was from the road salt during the winter.the vehicle is still under warranty

The design of the center hub cap on the 2001 sebring with the chrome wheels is defecient. I have replaced 4 wheel hub caps in 51,000 miles of driving due to it departing the car while in motion.

Consumer states that two of the wheel center caps separated from the wheel while driving. The dealer and manufacturer were notified. Consumer found many complaints relating to this one and determined that this condition is a manufacturer defect.also, consumer noticed a third cap is loose and will probably fall off shortly.

Owner was changing tire and cut hand on rim.owner found chrome plating peeling away from the back of all four rims upon further inspection.pieces are metal chards >2 inches which are peeling away around weld of spoke (backside of rim).could cut or injure a person or cause tires to puncture if metal fragments were to break off during travel.vehicle was taken to dealer (laflam chrysler, runnemede nj) where dealer stated that rims were "cosmetic" and not covered under warrantees.chrysler service line was contacted same day (file#129-7146).dealership denied inquiry about rims and then claimed that they felt it was cosmetic also.owner feels there is a huge safety risk and is very concerned at changeing tires and what may happen while driving.manufacturer has stated that there is "nothing you can do about it".the owner has a cut on his finger to prove this is not cosmetic.

Chrome wheel rims provided on this vehicle are badly corroded which causes the tires to loose air pressure.i have taken this car to several tire shops and there is nothing that can be done to correct this issue.apparently, chrome is notorious for having this problem.i have to use air every other day to maintain a safe air pressure on these tires.this problem has been going on for 18 months.

All four rims are bent due to running over bumps. Dealer / manufacturer were not notified at this time.
