I purchased the 1997 chrysler sebring in november of 2014.i did notice that the passenger air bag is slightly ejected.i have gone to automotive shops and even a chrysler dealership, and both inform me that the airbags for this particular car are no longer made.i need help on how to fix this problem to ensure the safety of my passengers. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day.
Module on airbag went out. Airbag will not deploy if in collision. Dealer and manufacturer contacted.
I was driving in a 1997 chrysler sebring lxi, when i began getting light-headed, and knew that i was about to pass out.i turned into a parking lot to get off the roadway, and the last thing that i remember was turning into the lot (because i indeed did pass out, due to a medical condition).my vehicle continued to travel through the parking lot, i struck a raised concrete sidewalk (at a store front) that was approximately 10 to 12 inches high, then struck the brick wall and store front window, entered the building and struck display cases, furniture, etc. Upon entering the building.when i came to, i was still in the vehicle, vehicle was running, and the airbags (neither one) had deployed.i immediately called 9-1-1 from my cell phone to summon police, fire & ems. The investigators from the local police indicated that when i passed out my foot had to have hit the vehicles accelerator to cause me to travel the distance, hit the sidewalk, and continue into the structure (building).i am very concerned that the safety features (air bags) did not deploy!
Was traveling 60mph when vehicle in front had an accident. Swerved to miss it,andlost control. Went into tail spin andhitbridge head-on. Unpon impact, neither air bag deployed. Consumer lists one injury and one death on form.
Was traveling approx. 20-25mph when traffic was backed up. Applied brakes which fail to stop vehicle. Rearended another vehicle.air bags failed to deploy upon impact. Sustained no injuries.

While driving at 20 mph rear ended another vehicle that pulled out in front of the consumer's vehicle, the air bags on both sides didn't deploy.
While driving 35 mph the vehicle had a direct frontal impact with a truck and both driver's and passenger's air bags did not deploy.manufacturer stated due to not enough deceleration it did not trigger the sensor, but the vehicle was totalled in front end.
Was traveling approx. 20-25mph when traffic was backed up. Applied brakes which fail to stop vehicle. Rearended another vehicle.air bags failed to deploy upon impact. Sustained no injuries.
While traveling on highway and without prior warning another vehicle was turning in front of consumer's vehicle.she applied brakes, and she ran into other vehicle.upon impact, dual airbags didn't go off. *jg

Crashed head on at 50 mph on a road of 55 mph into direct frontal impact of a gaurd rail ,frontal section of the car is highly damaged and air bags never deployed upon impact on eith driver or passanger side, both victiums were wearing seat belts at the time but did substain many bruises on face, head, shoulders, chest and legs and abdomone. To my knowledge and of other auto body repair specialist air bags are defective and the sensors should have gone off at time of deep impact and should have deployed.
The contact owns a 1997 chrysler sebring. While driving at unknown speeds, the driver blacked out due to a medical condition. In doing so, he unknowingly depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle proceeded to crash into a building. The vehicle was destroyed. Upon impact, the rear windows were blown out due to the severity of the crash. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed accordingly. The vehicle was towed to the contacts home. The manufacturer stated that an investigator would inspect the vehicle further and upon doing so, found it unusual that the air bags did not deploy due to the severity of front-end damage. The failure and current mileages were 100,000.
Vehicle rear ended another vehicle at 40 mph, and neither driver's side nor passenger's side airbags deployed. Dealer has not seen vehicle.

We had to replace the oxygen sensors to be able to get the engine light off and then the ignition fuses started to burn out.they only burn out when you turn right.it also happened at a low speed of 35 miles per hour.can you tell me what the problem is.nlm
The vehicles console does not work correctly.dealer notified. *nlmthe odometer and tachometer were intermittent.possibly due to a short.the consumer has talked to others with the same vehicle who have experienced the same problem.scc
When i purchased my car, i purchased it used. I noticed the engine light was on. I was then informed by the dealer that there was a short or a sensor problem. I then took my car to dealership to have them check it out. I was informed that it was a sensor light burn out, and that iswas not getting oxygen to the engine. I paid $250. On a tuesday to get that fixed. That wednesday the light was back on. I brought the car back down to the dealership. I was then informed that there is about 3 sensors in the engine, and another one has gone out. And it will cost me another $250. To replace that one. This was all in a 2 day span. I would like to know if there is anything that i can do about this, or will i have to keep paying till all the sensors are replaced, and how will i know if they all have been replaced. Very upset costumer. And i work for chrysler, this is terrible business.*la

Flagged safety issue-hi note and lo note horns repeat failures afterdriving vehicle at 40-50mph in2-3 days of heavy rain one or both horn fail. Dealer has replaced horns willingly,no acknowledgment from chrysler.dealer has mounted left horn to right mounting and mountedright horn to left mounting.horn bodies now face rearward ofvehicle in an attempt to prevent rain water being jammed up horn assemblies and rusting horn internal parts. Horn tone is reduced byabout 7 percent, but better 93percent horns than none,or next tonone.recommend designing new arraigement for this vehicle.

In passing a vehicle the accelerator cable broke and the throttle jammed in the full on position.this caused the car to dramatically increase speed on a busy highway.i shifted the car into neutral, and the engine raced to over 7000 rpm.i then had to turn off the engine to stop the racing.the automatic gas cut off did not appear to work.i ended up in the grassy mediam to avoid hitting cars as i had little braking and steering power.upon restarting the car it appeared to work and i was able to get almost home when it happened again.the pedal was full open and when i shut the car off, the automatic cut off apparently worked as the car wouldn't start again.it was towed to a service station.i am told the cable was seriously frayed which caused it to jam in the open position.i was lucky to have not had an accident and was grateful my daughter or wife were not driving.

On the date mentioned, i was driving at about 45mph when the accelerator cable failed and caused the vehicle to accelerate out of control.the vehicle raced to about 60 mph even while i used the brakes to attempt to slow down. After a few minutes i knew i had to put the car in neutral and shut it off to stop the car.in the meantime i had to avoid other cars and stoplights as i couldn't stop. The short use of my brakes caused a fire and i put out with an extinguisher. Fire dept. Was called. No warranty, my big bill. I feel it was a part defect as the mechanic said he had never replace on in all his years. Please respond to this questionnaire. Thank you.
Tachometer and odometer intermittenly work - defect in circuit board, they only work 10% of time.

Dealer mechanic says transmission must be replaced with less than 80,000 miles on the car.also stated that this is a typical problem at this mileage to the tune of over $2,000.have also been told we can expectthat the water pump fail about this mileage.can't believe there is major problems such as these without chrysler being investigated.
Transmission failed causing gears to stick.
Why would the transmission start to fail at 58k miles, never before has this happened with any other car i have owned.
Chrysler 1997 lxi coupe, 11330 miles. Driving on highway transmission went and fillings from transmission got into radiator, had to replace both and chrysler dealer and zone office refused to help with cost, they told me car was out of warranty. Could accept if car was misused or had excessive mileage, car was garage kept and as you can see hardly ever used.
The engine light kept coming on until the transmission failed. Also, the vehicle experienced delayed gear engagement. Engine races like it was in neutral 3-4 seconds but in drive.
The transmission has been acting up since the car hit around 57,000 miles.i have had the transmission serviced, however, the engine keeps racing and the speed doesn't keep up.the car now has 87,000 miles on it and is slipping again.
On several occasions the transmission failed when shifting the gear lever / when depressing the accelerator the engine would idle loudly and quickly but the vehicle would not move, prior to recall notice (98v183000).
Vehicle was parked inside of a garage , itjumped out of gear, and crashed into a parked car. Driver drovevehicle home and will contact the dealer the next day.
Transmission won't go into 3rd gear.consumer was going 65mph set on cruise control and felt a slight popping,it started to slow down.consumer was stranded for a while. Vehicle will not go over 30mph. Consumer has appointment withdealer on 06-mar-2001.
My transmission is starting to fail at 62,000 miles.why?my water pump was recently replaced.then my engine light went on and the plugs and wires had to be replaced and the mechanic told me the transmission is staring to go.i have noticed that the engine is racing but the car is having a difficult time keeping up with the engine.sure sign.
While driving at any speed and when shifting from first to second gear vehicle stalled. Consumer had a certified mechanic check the vehicle, and was told thattransmission needed to be replaced.
The vehicle failed to shift gears.
While driving my 1997 chrysler sebring the car felt as if fell out of car and turned completely off. This happened on a major highway in nothern new jersey and cost several hundred dollars to be towed back to philadelphia. The problem is believed to be with the transmission, but there were no wornign signs and the car only has a little over 76,000 miles on it. My life and the life of the passengers were very much in danger since we were stranded on the highway for several hours until a tow truck arrived.

Driver's and front passenger's seat belts would not release from theirslots.
The driver's side seatbelt twisted on the spool and will not retract.because the car is a convertible the seatbelt unit is located in the seat.there is no way to get at the seatbelt unit to unjam the spool.the seatbelt is unuseable.i called the dealership where i purchased the car and they told me they can't repair seatbelts they must be replaced and it will cost me $345.00.the seat must be removed in order to get to the seatbelt unit.i live in ny, with a mandatory seat belt law.i can not afford $345.00 at this time.i don't understand how a seatbelt design does not allow for the possibility that the belt will twist and jam upon retracting.i am having the same problem with the passenger side, however i have been fortunate enough that i have caught it before it jammed.shouldn't a thing like a seatbelt have a warranty for the life of the car, especially in a convertible?
Driver's seat belt retractor failed to retract back into position. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The driver seat belt didn't unlock.one would have to manually remove the seat belt out of the full retract position. *sc

I have called the chrysler corporation about the draining holes of my sebring and they have said there is no problem. I've asked a couple of people and they said that the holes are too small. My car will get destroyed at this rate. When it was still under warranty they could not figure out the problem at the dealer they thought it was from the convertible top or the seals of the windows.now i know what the problem is but they say there are no recalls on this problem.i don't know what to do anymore.

Anti lock brakes grab and release, causing loss of control/collision.
The brakes were not operating and were making noise when they were applied. Consumer picked up the vehicle after repairs, and while pulling out the brakes failed once again. Took vehicle to dealer for repairsagain, and results showed that the rotors were warped.

The short use of my brakes caused a fire and i put out with an extinguisher. Fire dept. Was called. No warranty, my big bill. I feel it was a part defect as the mechanic said he had never replace on in all his years. Please respond to this questionnaire. Thank you.

1997 chrysler sebring lxias i was driving down the freeway at approximately 75 - 80 mph, i felt this really hard jerk in my car where i had to rapidly grab the steering wheel with both my hands to control the car.the jerk slightly made my car steer to the right and the person on the right of me had to move out of the way.luckily nothing happened, but what if something would of.chrysler needs to really pay attention to these things and make sure that everything is safe, especially when it comes to a person's safety.i consider this bad business practice because chrysler does nothing to fix this problem to the already existing chrysler car buyers.good business practice is keeping the client happy, and this goal is not being met by this company.i'm 20 years of age and now i'm stuck with a car that doesn't work, i still owe on, and is my only way of transportation.*la

On april 23, 2005, my son was traveling to work, about 12:30 in the afternoon, traveling westbound on the 210 freeway.at some point, his left rear tire went flat.his car lost control and spun counterclockwise, across four lanes of traffic, and head on into the center divider.his car continued to spin in the same dirrection and impacted again at the right rear quarterpanel, and the right rear bumper.my son got out of the car, and the chp arrived within ten minutes to have his car towed.i contacted daimler chrysler to let them know what happened and to express my concern.they sent an inspector to the salvage yard.two weeks later i got a letter from chrysler saying that their recalled upper ball joint had nothing to do with the crash.i had a mechanic examine the vehicle, he had it lifted up with a forklift, and showed me the rack and pinion that was dangling down on the passenger side.he said that since there was no structural damage to the rest of the undercarraige, the broken steering was what caused my son's car to spin out of control, and crash into the median, injuring him, and threatening the other commuters.
The steering column and rack and pinion broke while driving the car at a speed of 35 - 40 and as a result, my husband had no control of the steering and we veered across the lane of the on-coming traffic and hit a light pole.

Luckly no one was hurt.although they say that this time it was the steering column.we investigated the part that was replaced and found that it was steering rack again.dealer admitted that the part installed was defective.

While driving down a side road at 15 mph, after going through the 2nd of 2 small dips, the front ball joint broke on the 1997 sebring and the car stopped. We got out, saw front wheelturned out atsharp angle, the right front of car dropped. Sheridan police drove by,we made an accident report. After having the car towed 2 blocks, the ins. Co. Was called we contacted phil long chrysler in littleton co. To find price on the part. They asked for vin number and determined there was recall on that vehicle. They said car was fixed once under recall, they wanted to see it. We had it towed there. Bernie said they would at least fix the ball joint. They estimated the damage and called district rep to come see the car. We were called and told district rep said no, they would not fix the car under the recall. We also owed them $100 (diagnostics).we were told byservice manager, scott vansickle, there was nothing they could do. The car was 10 years old, had 160,000 miles. [recalled part was fixed at 20,000 miles in 1998.]decision was made by the district rep. And, besides, those parts wear out. I asked for name and number of district rep - chris g. At 1-800-992-1997. I called, was told by alex, after much referral with his supervisor, that car had already been fixed and there was nothing they could do. I told him i wanted to speak with district rep, chris g, he said he was not at that number, they didn't have a district rep there, i needed to go through dealer for that. I asked him for his name, alex, and supervisor's name, ryan.chrysler's rep, ( chris g.) has offered to do absoluteley nothing to remedy this problem and is unwillling to do anything. I am lucky i was going slow and noone was hurt.this accident could have happened at 65 mph on the freeway and the 3 of us could have been killed. I find it appalling that chrysler claims no responsibility for the fault of this part.

Beads of the rims uneven resulting in extreme vibration.
I have had 8 tire failures during 15000miles of driving. Been to goodyear dealer 56 times and car dealer 6 times. Bothsay there is nothjing wrong, but aaa truck drivers all say it is faulty rims on the sebring. I have read of dozens of similar problems on the nhtsa web sitre. Took copies to dealer who disputes the validity of persons' report to nhtsa. I have spoked to chryslerhotline 3 times and goodyear's once.all say there is no reported problem and to go to dealer. I told dealers i am afraid to drive this car on a freeway. The car has been farther than 30 miles from home.most occurences happened during the warranty but dealer now says it is past warranty.i suspect cvhrysler is hiding information from other sebring owners andthere have been no deaths from flat tires, so there has been no recall. I will continue to contact chrysler to get total failures of the tires on the sebrings. Nhtsahas reports onwheel problems on 1998 and 1999 sebrings.i have all the records of aaa calls, dealer visits and tire dealer visits. (tiresize: p215/50ri7)
Tires are deflating and rolling off wheels due to a problem with rim.the consumer indicated that 12 tires deflated, but the dealer says it happens only to this vehicle. (goodyear tire p215/50r17 and dot # m6pclnwr0200).
