Air bag light goes off and on when starting and driving then the gages on the dashboard stop working. Sometimes just the red air bag light goes and the dials still work.when the red air bag light goes off usually the dials come back within 10 minites or 5 miles.

The representative could not advise me.i stressed my concern but was told to drive the vehicle until the light came on again and to bring it back in.well, that is what i did this last time.i must admit that the representative was very nice and tried to help, but honestly did not have the answers.on 10/16/06 i picked up the vehicle.no light was on.on 10/17/06 i telephone chrysler customer service and was instructed to go back to the dealership.i am very concerned with my safety, as well as my family's, and am getting the run around with no answers.i rely on the experts at dealership and do not understand how they can acknowledge there are trouble codes and not be able to advise if the vehicle is safe.please help!i should also note that eventhough the vehicle is a 1996, there are only 18,396 original miles on it.

Safety interlock system is jamming, cannot get key out of ignition.

There was noise infront end whenever turning steering wheel at any speed or no speed. This also caused vehicle to vibrate. Sounded like metal on metal. Also,when key is inignition, it can not be removed as per recalls 97v201000/ 98v183000.

There is something wrong with the brakes, i have taken the car to two different shops and it still makes a metallic sound like something is grinding when you step on the brakes, the odometer and rpm gauge work intermittantly at best probably some kind of a short in the system, when you start up the car the passenger side window motor comes on, the window doesn't go up or down but the sound is coming from the inside of that door, sometimes the powere buttons for the windows don't function right away, you have to tap on the button several times for it to work. The connection for the rear window defrost came apart where it connects to the window

My 1996 chrysler sebring convertible almost caught fire from the dash stereo speakers mid 10/05 .. Screeching noises came from my speakers and then smoke began to come out of them. I turned off the stereo andsoon after went to my mechanic. When they turned my stereo on smoke came out of the dash speakers again. I asked them to pull the fuse so that it wouldn't happen again. On 2/16/06 i called chrysler. I received a letter from them dated 2/21/06 stating that they would not do anything about it because the time or mileage warranty had expired. On recall sights i have found where there were recalls for the same problem in slightly newer models. This could have ended in injury or even death to myself and my two nieces that i was driving to school that morning. I am hoping that you can help me have the problem corrected by chrysler. There are also other electrical problems and i've also had a few problems with the steering and timing belt. I await your reply.

I took my car to get diagnostic for smog.the shop i took it to smog smart explain they have dismateledmy car claiming engine, coolant, and timing belt. They have removed parts and claim they contacted chrysler and its company states its repairs is not worth the vehicle.the engine claim, the coolant claim and timing belt they have made againstthe manufacture. The engine checked fine before dropping the car off. The car would stop due to heating the fuel running since the car had been a non op for 3 years andreason for smog.the car was deliberatley dismanteled can i get its information of the claim the smog mart 7070stockton sacramento ca 95820 is making so i can settle with the sheriffs in there distruction of my proeprty without invoice signature to remove any partys on my car except ordered to run diagnositcis.

The contact owns a 1996 chrysler sebring.while driving at an unknown speed, the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel.the vehicle then immediately stalled.several minutes later, the vehicle restarted.the dealer replaced the cam shaft sensor and the battery.the vehicle failed an emissions test due to smog.the dealer reprogrammed the pcm.on february 21, 2008, the vehicle had a second emissions test and failed again due to smog.the failure mileage was 167,000 and current mileage was 204,083.

On the engine i had the pulley on the timing belt come apart and just last month i had the head gasket start to leak from the back.timing belt 28,000 head gasket 37,500. I have had to replace all 4 tires that whereon the car.all by 29,000 miles--some earlier and then later.the brakes were replaces at the same time as the timing belt pulley.i knew they needed replacement and had an appointment to get them replaced when the timeing belt went out. It is a 1996 but i only have 37,500 miles.

Radiator:the whole inside of the pipes; hoses; radiator is rusted.every time i get an oil change i must get my radiator flushed and the coolant is completely rust color.it takes about 6 flushes for it to be clear again.this is abnormal for a car with only 86000 miles on it.i want all the hoses and radiator replaced free of charge.convertible top: all the seems have come unstitched...i've had to glue them with special glue.the edging around the windows leaks.this should not happen!

Head gasket between head & engine block leaking oil excessively. Mechanic says is a common problem for chryslers due to aluminum head, bad design & cast iron engine, (these 2 metals are not compatible). Feels chrysler should recall this because dealerships know of this problem because service managers know this is a growing problem and our having noted several complaints throughout this website.

Engine head gasket started leaking. Surprised to find out that the dealer could not fix the car right away as the head gasket was not available because it was being re-designed. Found several other people with the same problem plus the ntsa site reports that chrysler has designed a multiple layer head gasket to solve thisproblem. Owners should be re-imbursed for the cost to fix this problem.

Serpentine belt failed causing noise on acceleration.

Front suspension would wearout excessively.front wheel bearings had to be replaced. Also,lower left ball joint/ outer tie rod end/ sway bar link, andbushingswere replaced bymechanic. In addition,head gaskets were leaking water andoil, and theywere replaced.

When drivingandapplying the brakes they are soft but the brakes make a loud noise. Consumer had the vehicle in for service fourteen times. This is the fifth engine in the raleigh area that has had this failure between 60000 and 80000 miles, it is similar to the failure noted with the similar neon engine, and a technical bulletin has been released.

Doing hwy speed (60-65mph) when vehicle suddenly died out. Let vehicle sit for a while & would be able to restart. Took to dealer & could find nothing wrong. Dealer at first dealer stated that the fuel pressure was low possibly due to a faulty fuel pump, however later dealer stated that dirt and water in gas caused problem, another dealer stated that it was impossible to be able to even drive 200 miles on a contaminated tank of gas, however current dealer insisted this was the problem and that consumer would have to pay for repairs, dealer removed fuel tank, installed new fuel pump, replaced fuel filter, and reinstalled new tank.

Emission complaint related to possible o2(oxygen )sensor: defect:my vehicle has recently been emitting a sulphur smell from the exhaust and the 'check engine light' has remained on. When i took the vehicle into the dealership(to correct recall notification 827) the service department stated i needed a new o2(oxygen) sensor to correct my problems with the exhaust. Moreover,the dealership stated the problem with the exhaust was the reason the 'check engine light' remained on. I have done research on the internet and have checked with other owners of chrysler sebrings and the majority of them have also had to have this o2(oxygen) sensor replaced. I believe the ntsa should investigate a possible recallrelated to the o2(oxygen) sensor in the 1996 chrysler sebring lxi.

Air conditioner failed.

Air conditioner evaporator quit working at 86,000 miles. I am unable to read the mileage on the car . The odometer is not lit up. The tachometer is not working either.

Took car in to 3 different dealers to have them fix water leaks & air whistling and none could fix it.they said there was a flaw in the design of the top.they tried spraying foam on edge, adding an elastic strap (#8894 part), tried adjusting top - none of these exercises worked.now yet another dealer in joplin too tells us there's nothing that can be done as it's a flaw in the design/construction.there is also a whistling in the a/c system or vents when a/c is on and driving 40+ miles an hour.several times while driving in "d"the transmission doesn't shift out of low gear.

Vehicle stalls intermittently, mostly when slowing down and using electrical part, such aspower windows. Dealer replacedfuel pump, but it did not remedy the problem.

Doing hwy speed (60-65mph) when vehicle suddenly died out. Let vehicle sit for a while & would be able to restart. Took to dealer & could find nothing wrong. Dealer at first dealer stated that the fuel pressure was low possibly due to a faulty fuel pump, however later dealer stated that dirt and water in gas caused problem, another dealer stated that it was impossible to be able to even drive 200 miles on a contaminated tank of gas, however current dealer insisted this was the problem and that consumer would have to pay for repairs, dealer removed fuel tank, installed new fuel pump, replaced fuel filter, and reinstalled new tank.

I took my car to get diagnostic for smog.the shop i took it to smog smart explain they have dismateledmy car claiming engine, coolant, and timing belt. They have removed parts and claim they contacted chrysler and its company states its repairs is not worth the vehicle.the engine claim, the coolant claim and timing belt they have made againstthe manufacture. The engine checked fine before dropping the car off. I have had so many problems with this car.the car looks very nice on the outside but has many issues on the inside.this car has cost me a fortune since my warranty went out at 75,000 miles.i have replaced brakes, rotors, and drums almost every year.this is very costly (over $350 every time). My transmission failed on me twice, once under warranty and the other without a warranty.i spent over $1,000 for repairs to replace a gasket, o-ring, and transmission pump.my o2 sensor failed twice.when i try to adjust my mirrors with the button on the driver side, the mirrors won't respond at all.i constantly hear a knocking noise from the engine.the service advisors at the dealership continue to tell me that chrysler cars sounds like that.that's normal.all the tings i have shared with you are just some of the things i have experieced.in my opinion,this car will put you in a bad financial situation.it's not worth the trouble.i traded mine for a more reliable car (a german car).

Gearshift lock failed causing vehicle to roll uncontrollably.

Vehicle has same problem as described in recall 98v183000, ingition key shift interlock, consumer contacted chrysler who informed himthat vehicle was not affected by recall.the consumer states that this vehicle should be considered for recall because identical problems that had been recalled in the part exists.

Because the shifter was broken at housing for interlock, the driver is able to remove the key from the ignition before it is put into the park position. This will be repaired.the vehicle was parked but rolled out of the driveway and crossed the street.

1996 chrysler sebring has problems with roof leaking, front passenger tire separating from the vehicle as well as problems with the transaxles floor shifter/park interlock which caused driver to hit nine cars and be ejected through the windshield. I asked the service manager if the car was safe to drive, and he replied yes.the next day , while making a right hand turn on a residential street (5 - 10 mph) the car collapsed onto the right tire.when i looked at the damage i saw the the tire almost flat on the ground, the driveshaft was out of the transmission, the cv joint was pulled from the transmission and the ball joint was cut in half.there was also damage to the fender of the car.salerno chrysler inspected the left ball joint and said it was fine.the car was repaired and a little over two months later the left side began to make the same noise.i brought the car back to the dealership, and they told me they could not reproduce the noise.the car was makingnoise the next day, and i decided to bring the car somewhere else.i broughtthe car to another chrysler dealership service center and they found the the left lower ball joint was failing due to lack of lubrication.i have that part in my possesion and would gladly send it to you.my concern is that i have spent a significant amount of money on repairs due to these lower ball joint failures and they seem to be manufacturer's problems, not my driving habits.thee have been recalls for other chrysler cars for this very problem, but not the sebring.i think that someone should think about recalling the sebring also.i encourage your office to contact me at any time.thanks,richard settino.

Lap and shoulder belt on passenger's side locks up. Withoutany type of movementbelt locks up.seatbelt has to be unlocked, and rolled all the way back to correct problem temporarily. The driver's side seatbelt is defective.several times, including recently, the seatbelt shoulder harness locks-up preventing it from being worn.the seatbelt housing is contained in the seat and is not anchored to the car.the seatbelt seems to catch and won't provide any slack.the seatbelt, while in the resting position appears to recoil improperly.the problem of the seatbelt jamming/locking has occurred several times since i have owned the car.usually i can unlock the belt by repeatedly pulling the minimal available slack until the belt loosens.this most recent incident has proven impossible to unlock the belt.i will notify the dealership on 6/16/00.this safety defect is very hazardous to drivers and may prove to be fatal if an accident occurs.i hope i'm the only individual experiencing this safety defect and if not i would hope that chrysler would take immediate action.thank you.mike fisher

The passenger's side seat belt locks up when there is any type of movement,causing the occupant to be trapped in the seat belt. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer has replaced the seat belt on two occasions, problem still occurs. Chrysler notified the dealer that if you extend the seat belt beyond a certain point it will lock up, it was designed to do so a child seat could be put in the front seat.*nlm

Front passenger shoulder failure.if passenger leans forward belt will lock and continue to tighten.

The driver's side shoulder belt does not stay on the upper chest region.it continously slips below the breast area, cutting across the arm.the seat back has to be placed completely erect in order to maintain proper placement of the shoulder harness.it is uneffective for someone who is tall and must have the seat partially reclined as it does not properly restrain the driver.

Plastic mechansim withinrear shoulder belt assembly breaks, causing seat belts to become inoperable. The rear seat belts keep breaking apart. The plastic over the latch fell off and the springs were lost.

I've went to sevral dealers about the problem including the dealer ship i bought it from.they all say i have to pay for the problem since ther is no recall on the item.what has happened since the problem started is my driver and passenger seat have rusted to the point that they appear brown.now i know that ifthey have rusted to that degree then the body underneath must be in the same shape .i know if the body under the seats gives out while driving then some one "chrysler" is geting sued. The contact owns a 1996 chrysler sebring. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact crashed the vehicle into a ditch. There were no injuries. The independent mechanic repaired the brake chamber, both rear brake lines, and the adjuster; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. There is something wrong with the brakes, i have taken the car to two different shops and it still makes a metallic sound like something is grinding when you step on the brakes, the odometer and rpm gauge work intermittantly at best probably some kind of a short in the system, when you start up the car the passenger side window motor comes on, the window doesn't go up or down but the sound is coming from the inside of that door, sometimes the powere buttons for the windows don't function right away, you have to tap on the button several times for it to work. The connection for the rear window defrost came apart where it connects to the window

On the engine i had the pulley on the timing belt come apart and just last month i had the head gasket start to leak from the back.timing belt 28,000 head gasket 37,500. I have had to replace all 4 tires that whereon the car.all by 29,000 miles--some earlier and then later.the brakes were replaces at the same time as the timing belt pulley.i knew they needed replacement and had an appointment to get them replaced when the timeing belt went out. It is a 1996 but i only have 37,500 miles.

Brake pads wear excessively and destroys the rotors. When it rains the brakes are completely inoperable.the pedal goes to the floor and rotors "scream", metal against metal.

While driving on three seperate occasions on or about 15 mph, trying to come to a complete stop brakes failed . Manufacturer was contacted. There was an inspection on the vehicle, the manufacturer could not duplicate the problem, but the connection was tightened.

After replacing head gasket, i now have rust deposits in the radiator fluid.the window in back falls with a thump when put down, and the brakes constantly squeak.my dealer told me there was a national back order on head gasket replacement parts, and that he had a whole parking lot waiting to be repaired.

The vehicle had remained stuck oncruise control. It kept on accelerating. Had applied brakes; vehicle did not slow down. Relaxed on brakes & vehicle accelerated again. Had worn brakes out. At side of road & turned vehicle off & disengaged cruise control. Restarted vehicle & had no brakes. Used emergency brakes. Had vehicle towed to dealer.

Cable connecting gas pedal to engine frayed and stuck at full throttle.brakes did not work.was traveling in rush hour traffic at full speed two times.the first time repeated stomping on the gas pedal and brake pedal and throwing the car into neutral unjammed it after a couple of minutes.the second time also in rush hour traffic these efforts did not help.i wove in and out of traffic until i got to an off ramp, and luckily was able to get through the traffic light at the intersection at the off ramp and onto a sidestreet where i put it into neutral and landed it like an airplane on a landing strip with the brakes smoking and the engine screaming and the car glided to a stop.was told the cable had unwound like a frayed piece of rope and stuck inside the cable connecting the pedal to the engine.

When applying the brakes, under any circumstances, there is a very loud squeaking noise coming from the brakes. The vehicle has been serviced 3 times for this problem, but the noise continues. Brake pedal did not go down all the way to the floor & i was still applying pressure as the car continued forward. First time just went thru stop sign. Second time (10 minutes later), i had the same problem and hit a car. Estimated damage given was only to their car. Did not estimate mine. Chrysler's independent advisor said nothing was wrong with the brakes. Don't know what they checked but they said they wouldn't do any more. Terrified to drive car again. Traded it in to another dealer for a different brand. They considered the estimated damage in the trade-in price. I hope nobody gets killed next time. Considering they had a recall on the 96 sebring convertible, you would think they would look harder for the cause of this double brake failure. Maybe they fixed the problem and just did not want to admit that there was one.

Brake problems; intermittently, while driving the vehicle at 30 mph and applying the brakes, the pedal goes to the floorboard and the vehicle keeps traveling at 35 mph. When driving at any speed and applying the brakes, brakes are working intermittently. Vehicle has been into repair shop five times for brake service, and the dealer can't determine the problem.

Consumer stated she is having to replace the brake pads every 25,000 miles, pads have been changed 3 times.

Before i bought this car in march 97, the dealer promised to fix the brake problem (warped rotor-made the car come to a pulsating stop). They ground the rotors down before i bought the vehicle. Then in may 97, the rotors warped again and the dealer replaced the rotors.then in jan 98, the rotors warped again, but the dealer said "he could not find any problem". But of course there was a problem because it kept getting worse and worse so i took the car in again and the dealer replaced the rotors again in may 98.then in nov 98, the rotors became warped again but this time both the dealer and daimler chrysler (i filed a formal complaint with the manufacturerfile# 5313863)refused to fix this recurring problem.in the past they only fixed the symptoms, not the cause of this defect, otherwise, the problem would not keep recurring. I have sent both thedealer and manfacturer a complaint letter but they have not responded. Ithas been about 1 1/2 weeks.

Front rotors require resurfacing every 3000 to 5000 miles.car was purchased used with 24,000 miles.front rotors had to be resurfaced shortly after purchase and again 4000 mile later.local dealer (not one listed above) was questioned on cause and if any recalls were in effect.dealer had no cause and suggested the rotors be replaced.rotors were replaced with after market components at approximatly 39,000 miles.the rotors now require resurfacing to eliminate pulsating brakes.i'm frustrated with the cost and time i have to invest.i'm also concerned that others may not have their brakes repaired and be left with ineffective brakes.

I have had so many problems with this car.the car looks very nice on the outside but has many issues on the inside.this car has cost me a fortune since my warranty went out at 75,000 miles.i have replaced brakes, rotors, and drums almost every year.this is very costly (over $350 every time). My transmission failed on me twice, once under warranty and the other without a warranty.i spent over $1,000 for repairs to replace a gasket, o-ring, and transmission pump.my o2 sensor failed twice.when i try to adjust my mirrors with the button on the driver side, the mirrors won't respond at all.i constantly hear a knocking noise from the engine.the service advisors at the dealership continue to tell me that chrysler cars sounds like that.that's normal.all the tings i have shared with you are just some of the things i have experieced.in my opinion,this car will put you in a bad financial situation.it's not worth the trouble.i traded mine for a more reliable car (a german car).

The brakes would keep locking up whenever they are applied. Vehicle would shake. Been to dealer & entire braking system was replaced. One month later, problem had started over again.

Front disc rotors warp within 3,000 miles of repair causing poor braking control at 40+ mph. Caused by bad brake design. Also abs module failed at 90,000 miles , leaving no abs implementation on vehicle.

Driving vehicle, heard a loud grinding noise from rear of vehicle; took into dealership, was informed hold down spring had broken off.

Loss of control/steering on car.first incident was traveling on highway approx. 45 mph and needed to break suddenly.car lost control and began to fishtail.luckily was able to gain control.second instance was traveling approx. 65mph went to merge into right lane and noticed a vehicle there.jerked the car back into my lane (no brakes applied at that time) and the car lost control again and began fishtailing uncontrollably. .could not gain control this time and ended up hitting the middle barrier of the expressway resulting in another car hitting mine.crash could have been a lot worse.am now waiting for chrysler investigator to determine if this is a result of a recall.but, will bring to independant mechanic for their opinion first.just curious if this has happened to anyone else.

Took car in to 3 different dealers to have them fix water leaks & air whistling and none could fix it.they said there was a flaw in the design of the top.they tried spraying foam on edge, adding an elastic strap (#8894 part), tried adjusting top - none of these exercises worked.now yet another dealer in joplin too tells us there's nothing that can be done as it's a flaw in the design/construction.there is also a whistling in the a/c system or vents when a/c is on and driving 40+ miles an hour.several times while driving in "d"the transmission doesn't shift out of low gear.

A part was not mounted securely to the firewall resulting in firewall/part striking the engine.

Vehicle has been designed too low to the ground. When parking in parking lots where there is the front parking stoppers, the spoiler gets past the stopper and gets hookes. When backing up the spoiler gets stuck and more often than not will tear.

Door's exterior panel doesn't stay on.panel has been replaced before, butproblem has reoccurred.

Convertible top flew off due to lack of "boot clip"..

Problems with the left front locking device of the convertible top. Threads of hold down bolt stripped, causing the top to come loose. Replacement unit purchase from chrysler looked a lot sturdier than the original, so they must have experienced more problems with this device.

Mechanic refused to repair as according to recall. Failed to clean and put special sealant on ball joints for prevention of moisture. Been in contact with manufacturer.

Upon receipt of a recall noticeconsumer notified the dealer.the dealer inspected the vehicle and determined that the vehicle wasokay. Since that inspection, ball joints have failed. Manufacturerhas been notified.

Dealership is not performingrecall oov421002for the lower ball joints within a reasonable time frame.

In august of 1998 i began to detect a creaking noise when i turned the steering wheel (even at a full stop).i brought it back to the dealership where i purchased the car and they determined that the lower right ball joint had lost it's lubrication.the service manager indicated that since there wasn't a grease fitting on the ball joint it needed to be replaced.the repair could not be done that day and an appointment was made for a couple of days later. I asked the service manager if the car was safe to drive, and he replied yes.the next day , while making a right hand turn on a residential street (5 - 10 mph) the car collapsed onto the right tire.when i looked at the damage i saw the the tire almost flat on the ground, the driveshaft was out of the transmission, the cv joint was pulled from the transmission and the ball joint was cut in half.there was also damage to the fender of the car.salerno chrysler inspected the left ball joint and said it was fine.the car was repaired and a little over two months later the left side began to make the same noise.i brought the car back to the dealership, and they told me they could not reproduce the noise.the car was makingnoise the next day, and i decided to bring the car somewhere else.i broughtthe car to another chrysler dealership service center and they found the the left lower ball joint was failing due to lack of lubrication.i have that part in my possesion and would gladly send it to you.my concern is that i have spent a significant amount of money on repairs due to these lower ball joint failures and they seem to be manufacturer's problems, not my driving habits.thee have been recalls for other chrysler cars for this very problem, but not the sebring.i think that someone should think about recalling the sebring also.i encourage your office to contact me at any time.thanks,richard settino.

Dealership could not perform recall 97v201 for ball joint replacement due to lack of parts and tools that were stolen.another dealership replaced both deteriorated ball joints and informed consumer that both ball joints were completely deteriorated and was hazardous.*dt

The vehicle was inspected for recall 99v-066 of the front ball joints, the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that no problem existed, 21 days later vehicle was taken to a garage for a front end alignment and consumer was told the upper ball joint needed to be replaced along with the left front wheel bearing and hub assembly, the consumer feels the dealer did not properly diagnose the problem and requests reimbursement for repairs made.nlm

Nhtsa campaign 00v421002; daimler chrysler issued a lower ball joint recall. This vehicle is not included in the recall. The consumer was driving55 miles per hour when all of a sudden he heard a popping noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The consumer lost control of the vehicle before coming to a complete stop on the side of the road. Theconsumer took the vehicleto the shop and results showed that the lower ball joints needed to be replaced. Ball joint snapped and resulted in the wheel turning sideways.as a result the driveer lost control of the vehicle.when vehicle finally came to rest the tire was totally destroyed and under carriage sustained damage. *sb

The consumer received recall notice in 1999. Nhtsa's recall # 99v066003. When taken to get serviced, they did not service the vehicle, they only inspected it.the consumer was told that the ball joints where fine. Recently, the consumer was involved in an incident where he was driving on the highway at approximately 55 mph. The front left ball joint broke causing him to loose control of the vehicle, he was able to avoid an accident. He again took the vehicle to get serviced and was told that they would only cover the ball joints and not the additional damage.

Consumer stated while driving, the right front ball joint came completely out of its socket, causing the right front tire to turn side ways, consumer was informed by represenative from the corporate recall 800# that consumer was entitled to a refund, consumer is now requesting payment in full.

Recall 00 v 421 000 cncerning lower ball joint failure. Vehicle was repaired underrecall.however,replacement part failed. Boot was damaged, andjoints were dry.manufacturer has been notified.

Dt: june 30 2005 the left front ball joint broke while driving. The consumer was driving 35 mph. There was anoise, sparks were flying, and the consumer lost steering control and bounced off a curve. There were no warning lights on the vehicle. The vehicle was recently inspected in may and no problems were reported. There was a recall, but the consumer was not aware of it. The consumer noticed there was a corrosion problem with the ball joint. The consumer didn't have the recall number. The vehicle is now having repair work done. Chrysler is willing to pay the repairs. The bearings had to be replaced, the left front wheel bearing was replaced twice.

Consumer contacteddealer in reference to recall number 99v066003/ manufacturer'srecall 827.dealer stated recall work needed no correction. Consumer stated when driving at 5 mph and upon making a left hand turn, right front wheel came off the axle.please provide any further details.

Knocking in front right/ mechanic said it was ball joint/that was repaired /knock is still there/ now he says it is the strut.

Lower control arm bushing fell out while vehicle is in motion, causing bottom strut pin tosnap off.

While returning from las vegas, i thumping sound began in the right front section of the car. I looked but could find no immediate problem. Upon returning home, i made a closer search for what was causing the clunking sound. As i looked above the right front tire, i could see that the welding for the shock tower had broken loose. I immediately took it to the dealership where the car was bought (van wyk's). The car was still under extended warranty. After van wyk's inspected the vehicle, they insisted we must have hit something in the road to cause the welding to break. I pointed out that there was no damage or other indications that something had been hit, but they refused to repair the vehicle. I felt i had no other choice but to seek independent repair. I then contacted independent wheel and frame inc. Inspection of the vehicle by eldon fussel indicated the welding of the shock tower to be defective in that mr. Fussel stated that the should sustain a major head on collison before those weld points should have broke. Mr. Fussel also confirmed that there was no damage contradicting van wyk's theory that we had hit something causing the welding to break. Independent wheel and frame proceeded to complete repair which resulted in $385.00 out-of-the-pocket expense to myself. Mr. Fussel also expressed how dangerous this situation (failure of the shock tower welding) could be (potential total loss of steering).

While driving, there would be a "clunking" noise coming from the front of the vehicle.taken to dealership and vehicle was diagnosed, sway bar end links were defective and had to be replaced.please note:parts available for inspection.

Rear compartment of vehicle misaligned.

I had the vehicle in 2 weeks prior to 7/9/01 for regular service and a recall on the boots, the right being worse than the left side. I also complained about the rear end swaying when i drive over a rough road. There was no even flow.it turned out the inner tie rod ends had to be replaced.within 2 days of receiving the vehicle back there was still a sway in the rear end but not as bad.i parked the car for 6 days because i used my father's new vehicle.when i used the car again especially on 7/9/01 i made a right hand turn into a parking lot and heard a loud metal thumping sound.i heard the sound again when i applied the brakes to stop.i brought the vehicle back to my residence and noticed the strut not only came undone but also broke the body frame under the front right wheel well.vehicle was flat bedded back to dealership where they thought work could be done.unfortunately,it had to go to an auto body shop.i am waiting to hear from body shop to see how this job will be done as well as what expense it will be to me.i saw on nhtsa's web site under complaints that there were 5 other complaints about the noise as well as the strut actually breaking off.i called to complain to crash, a data base site for vehicle problems who advised me they had just taken the same report on the same side on a dodge neon.i do not understand how this strut broke.when i asked the dealership how this happened, they advised me normal wear & tear.now i amin the insurance business for 12 years and have owned 2 other vehicles in my life, this is not a "normal" wear and tear.you have to have a serious car accident with extensive front end damage for the possibility of this to happen.i have also noticed that all the recalls that chrysler has had on the sebrings in particular, are mainly the front suspension.maybe there was a problem whith manufacturing.i am extremely disappointed.i could have been seriously injured.

On the engine i had the pulley on the timing belt come apart and just last month i had the head gasket start to leak from the back.timing belt 28,000 head gasket 37,500. I have had to replace all 4 tires that whereon the car.all by 29,000 miles--some earlier and then later.the brakes were replaces at the same time as the timing belt pulley.i knew they needed replacement and had an appointment to get them replaced when the timeing belt went out. It is a 1996 but i only have 37,500 miles.

I took my car to get diagnostic for smog.the shop i took it to smog smart explain they have dismateledmy car claiming engine, coolant, and timing belt. They have removed parts and claim they contacted chrysler and its company states its repairs is not worth the vehicle.the engine claim, the coolant claim and timing belt they have made againstthe manufacture. The engine checked fine before dropping the car off. The car would stop due to heating the fuel running since the car had been a non op for 3 years andreason for smog.the car was deliberatley dismanteled can i get its information of the claim the smog mart 7070stockton sacramento ca 95820 is making so i can settle with the sheriffs in there distruction of my proeprty without invoice signature to remove any partys on my car except ordered to run diagnositcis.

Emission complaint related to possible o2(oxygen )sensor: defect:my vehicle has recently been emitting a sulphur smell from the exhaust and the 'check engine light' has remained on. When i took the vehicle into the dealership(to correct recall notification 827) the service department stated i needed a new o2(oxygen) sensor to correct my problems with the exhaust. Moreover,the dealership stated the problem with the exhaust was the reason the 'check engine light' remained on. I have done research on the internet and have checked with other owners of chrysler sebrings and the majority of them have also had to have this o2(oxygen) sensor replaced. I believe the ntsa should investigate a possible recallrelated to the o2(oxygen) sensor in the 1996 chrysler sebring lxi.

The consumer purchased a 96 chrysler sebring in april of this year, and was told by the private owner, from whom he purchased the vehicle, the odometer worked intermittently.but since he had the vehicle, he learned the whole dash board did not properly work.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and was told, in order to repair the odometer, it would cost $ 500.00. The consumer requested assistance.

Nhtsa has been kept apprised of my lack of progress thus far with the dealer and chrysler customer service in michigan via copies of my letters to them. Maroone had attempted to install this recall 5 times but still being unsuccessful have now just blamed the problem on me and other drivers. As far as i know, they are "through with it.". The contact owns a 1996 chrysler sebring.the contact stated that the vehicle accelerated without driver intent.she finally got it stopped by putting it in park, using the brakes had no effect.the manufacturer was contacted and they stated there was no recall on her vehicle.the failure and current mileages were approximately 200,000. Cruise control once disengaged and resumed, vehicle will accelerate highly, kicking into second gear. Two area dealerships can't duplicate problem.

Consumers son and grand daughter were travelling aprrox. 60 mph. The accelerator was released but the vehicle remained at 60 mph. The brakes were applied and the vehicle only slowed to 55 miles per hour. Upon releasing the brake the car sped to 65 mph with no mechanical acceleration.brakes would not slow the vehicle down.when the floor accelerator was released the rpms reved and the speed stayed the same.smoke began to emit from the tires.the speed was steadily rising.vehicle was shifted into neutral and turned off.*jg

While driving the vehicle down hill throttle cable broke, causing the accelerator pedal to not return to idle and the brakes did not work. The driver had to downshift into low gear and use the emergency brake to stop. Dealer has vehicle.

Cable connecting gas pedal to engine frayed and stuck at full throttle.brakes did not work.was traveling in rush hour traffic at full speed two times.the first time repeated stomping on the gas pedal and brake pedal and throwing the car into neutral unjammed it after a couple of minutes.the second time also in rush hour traffic these efforts did not help.i wove in and out of traffic until i got to an off ramp, and luckily was able to get through the traffic light at the intersection at the off ramp and onto a sidestreet where i put it into neutral and landed it like an airplane on a landing strip with the brakes smoking and the engine screaming and the car glided to a stop.was told the cable had unwound like a frayed piece of rope and stuck inside the cable connecting the pedal to the engine.

Had received recall notice 02v186000 for throttle. Contacted dealership, and set up an appointment.took vehicle in for repairs on throttle cable.was informed by mechanic after arriving, that no parts were available. Parts for throttle cable were on back order.delucka chrysler/plymouth, bedford, ohio 44146, 440-232-0880.

While driving throttle cable fell apart, causing the vehicle to suddenly accelerate.brakes would not work, which almost resulted in a crash.dealer replaced the throttle cable.please provide further details.

Accelerator stuck at 60 mph and it was due to a frayed cable. Chrysler dealer said that it happened to most of the sebring conv. The current cable is discontinued from chrysler and a new throttle body must be purchased for the new cable to be installed. Dealer said that a new aftermarket replacement cable would be unsafe due to its design and are forbidden to install anything but the new "safer" cable.

Car has been out of commission over twenty times during possession...it was a demo, not a true "used car" .

After replacing head gasket, i now have rust deposits in the radiator fluid.the window in back falls with a thump when put down, and the brakes constantly squeak.my dealer told me there was a national back order on head gasket replacement parts, and that he had a whole parking lot waiting to be repaired.

Nhtsa recall 97v015000 manufacturer recall 717; car was parked and unoccupied and it caught on fire.fire department came and put fire out. Cut all the wires, to make sure no other fire started.specialist determined the cause of fire. Dealer and manufacturer contacted to investigate problem.

Recall #97v015000, consumer does not feel switch was replaced because water is still leaking into the switch.

Replaced warped front brake rotors/pads.in addition, rear main seal malfunctioned/vc boot cover flew off/ fuel injections dirty and mirror switch failed.

Had received recall notice in the mail (#97v01500),manufacturer's recall (3717). Contacted the dealership.after arriving, dealership refused to perform the recall repairs.

This problem has almost cost meand my passenger our lives. It is not something that is reproducable on demand, but i have witnesses on the happenings. It happens at different speeds, different timings, but the amount of rain seems to be a factor. I have tried several times to resolve this at the dealer but since it is not reproducable they will not fix it.i reported this before my warranty ran out. I can not be taking chances during the rain and snowy weather an having my wipers just stop working. Roads are dark, many have no shoulder to pull off on and highways now do not have shoulders either. Please help me with this issue and getting it resolved.no safety defect listed.

Wheel lugs: studs are of defective material.in the last 6 months, there have been 6 failures where the lugs had to be replaced.the lugs and nuts sieze and cannot be removed and replaced without an air wrench.these replacements are documented.the "merchants tire" dealer says it is widespread among chryslers.this is a safety issue since it makes the spare tire useless (lugs cannot be removed with manual lug wrench).i use the car to get to remote areas and being stranded by a flat tire is dangerous.i hope that a recall can be issued for this defect.please advise.

1996 chrysler sebring wheel came off while driving on the ohio turnpike. While the driver pulled off to the right berm, the wheel crossed the median and struck another vehicle.according to the police report, the lug nuts sheared off.ohio traffic crash report # 10-0734-90.

Checked for recall, given ok.at 55 mph without warning bolt "broke or fell out" causing wheel to separate from car, arm dropped, resulting in severe body and mechanical damage.
