Takata recall ?spontaneous combustion both airbags deployed while driving

The contact owns a 2005 chrysler sebring convertible. The contact stated that the horn sounded for an extended period of time and would not stop. The vehicle was taken to more than one repair shop, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who indicated that the air bag malfunctioned, expanded, inflated, and caused the horn to sound as the wires fractured internally in the steering wheel. The dealer replaced the steering wheel to ensure the horn and air bag were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

The horn just randomly goes off.to get it to stop i had to pull the fuse which also disconnects the air bag.after reading about the exact same problem by hundreds of sebring owners, i feel that chrysler should replace the horn and air bag (chrysler mechanic told me it was all one unit and to replace it would be over $700).this is a safety issue, not only for me but for others on the road.

Airbag warning light remains on.

We have 2 2005 chrysler sebring convertibles in the family and both of them have an airbag warning light on.previously our horn would go off sporadically but the dealer repaired it. Is there a recall on the problem with the airbag warning lights?

Horn blows for no apparent reason. Usually occurs when using the remote to unlock doors but has happened when just opening the car door. Continues to sound for several minutes. Occasionally will stop if holding horn pad down on steering wheel but then resumes when pressure is released. Service department unable to replicate. States it is probably a faulty horn pad which is connected to air bag assembly so all must be replaced. Very expensive fix! apparently this is a frequent problem with sebrings for this year. Why not a recall?

The horn goes off at anytime that it wants. Unable to stop it unless i pull the horn relay. My air bag light stays on all the time. Cruise control does not work. I had the same problem in chevy tahoe and i know what the problem is. It is the clock-spring and i have searched and made calls to everyone and i will not pay $700-$1,000 for a small peace of plastic which from most of the complaints on this list is about. From what i under stand from the dealer the part they do not make anymore and the cheapest that i can find it for is$417.00. That is a joke. Chrysler should do a recall on this because is your airbag is not working and your horn going off with it feels like it it is to dangerous for myself and for other drivers. This is a big issue and should be fixed. They had the same problem on the minivans and caravans from 98-2000 and they did a recall on those.

My horn has started going off for no reason.it will not work when i press on it, but will sound itself at any time during the day or night.the lights on my stereo have been flickering, and the components on the steering wheel (such as the stereo volume and crust control) will turn themselves on and off or up and down.the car has also had problems shifting into gears like it is supposed to.i have only had the car for a year this month, and i have had nothing but problems with it.when i have had it looked at, i am told there is nothing wrong with it.i know it is not normal for the horn to sound off like it does, and for the stereo controls on the steering wheel to turn the volume up or down without anyone pressing on the buttons like they do.i read another persons report about the airbag system that is very similar to my problems, and i feel like the manufacture should be responsible to fix these problems.if i would have known that this car would end up with problems like this, i never would have bought it!

I purchased a used 2005 sebring in may 2010 shortly after around july the first week the air bag light came on and now it is a nagging problem it goes on for awhile and then goes off for awhile is this a safety problem driving with no air bag please tell me if it is still under warranty can i take it back to the dealer for repair.

The horn randomly begins honking.it occationally happens as i'm driving down the road.when the car is turned off it continues honking.it occationally begins when i push the button on the remote to open the locked doors.it will then suddenly stop honking, only to start again further down the road.the only way i can get it to stop while i'm driving is to push hard on the center of the steering wheel with one hand while i steer with the other hand.this is a major safety hazard.i took it to the local repair shop.the mechanic told me that the problem is a switch in the steering wheel that controls the horn and the air bag.the switch costs around $500 and labor will cost about $500 more.since i can't afford to pay that now, the technician suggested i remove the relay for the horn.he told me that would stop the horn from honking, but also disable the air bag.so now i am driving without a horn and without an airbag.this is also a major safety concern.

The contact owns a 2005 chrysler sebring convertible. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle was unstable on the road and suddenly spun out of control. The contact crashed into a guardrail and stopped facing in the opposite direction of traffic. None of the air bags deployed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed by the insurance company. The manufacturer sent an independent investigator who stated that the air bags were not faulty based upon the speed and location of impact. The independent investigator and the manufacturer provided no specific diagnosis on why the air bags did not deploy and sent a letter with a response. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 10e059000 (suspension), 09e056000 (suspension), 04v579000 (steering), and 15v338000 (air bags). The failure mileage was not available.

When driving my 2005 chrysler sebring conv/gtthe horn started blowing. I had to repeatedly punch the steering wheel until it stopped. It has happened several times. Took it to the dealer, and they told me itwasthe air bag, andit was not covered byextended warranty. They want $750. 00to fix the problem. I have no horn, except when it wants to work, and no airbag in a gray 2-door convertible - scary. The carwas unsafe to drive.

Driving a 2005 chrysler sebring, started to rain and skidded sideways into a curb.the air bags deployed and smoke started to billow from the steering wheel area.the other bag broke the windshield.i turned off the ignition and got out of the car.i suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.upon release from the hospital i went to put on my coat and discovered that it was me that had been on fire.1/3 of the sleeve had been burned by the exploding air bag.if i had been unconscious or it was summer i could have suffered from smoke inhalation or burned at least my arm.something should be done about the sparks and possible explosion that the air bags set off.

The seatbelt restraint carriage failed and has to be replaced.

2005 chrysler sebring gtc conv. At 3:00 o'clock in the morning, i awoke to my horn just honking away. The air bag light is on all the time. It happened another time in the middle of the night and then happened when i was stopped at a light. Everyone was looking at me as i *dramatically* pounded on the steering wheel. I don't think the pounding is really helping, as it seems to just stop on it's own. The last time it happened was yesterday. As i pulled up to my friends house, and was just about to shut it off, the horn started honking short honks then progressed to looooonnngggg honks. Being labor day, needless to say all the neighbors came out to see what all the racket was about. After pounding on it for a few, i decided to drive away as i was sooo humiliated by this time. It stopped about 6 houses down the street. Go figure. However, it was the first time i was aware that there was a ticking sound coming from the area where the control panel for the mirrors were, on the left side of the front of dashboard. *ln

Horn will start working on it's on and will not stop until fuse burns out. The only way to fix this is by replacing the driver airbag since the horn pad is inside the airbag assy. Needless to say, a vehicle without an horn will not pass inspection and since this is the only way a driver has to communicate with the surrounding drivers in case they get too close or to warn them of a danger a head, this most certainly is a safety issue. By chrysler avoiding their responsibility for this bad design, there are a lot of people out there who are driving sebrings with no horns (since they can not afford $800 for a new airbag, which by the way is going to be no more then a temporary solution since no change in the design have been made). That posses as much as a threat on all of us who share the road with them as it does on those sebrings owners...i have to admit i'm skeptical about nhtsa making sure chrysler make things right, but at least i'll give it a try.to see how big of a problem this is i suggest you google "chrysler sebring horn fix".thank you.p.sthere was no incident just yet, but i had to choose a date of the "* approximate incident date:" or it will not let me go to the next page.

[ 2005 chrysler sebring]i smelled and saw smoke coming out of steering column, car towed to dealership. I was told they could not find a problem. Two weeks later same issue. The car went back to the dealership and i was told the wiring harness burnt up. About 3000 in damages.....

Horn goes off by itself and continues to sound, until pounding on the steering wheel center.dealer says it is a bad horn switch which is integral with the airbag assembly, which is not a covered part with extended warranty and costs >$750.this would be very unsafe in a high traffic situations, or bad neighborhoods.

The contact owns a 2005 chrysler sebring convertible. The contact stated that the horn activated independently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 83,000.

My car lights on the inside do not turn on have tried replacing all fuses the radio also will not come on also have tried replacing fuses the right door does not latc and can only be opened from the inside the left door only can open from the outside the steering wheel makes a noise when trying to turn and tries to locked up but i do have steering fluid in there the right back blinker stops working at random timessage even with a new bulb the seat belt light blinks and dings even with seat belts on also the oilast light comes on even with oil in it and the horn does not work.

Purchased 2005 sebring convertible in early 2006 with 18,000 miles on it. Was pushed into an extended warranty that has went out of business. Car cruise control quit working, was a wiring issue, had to have steering wheel tore apart and repaired. Dealer cost $374. Interior lights in car flicker and continue to flicker. Car goes into gear hard sometimes, like a clunk. No the blower motor in the vehicle has went out and the car only has 84,000 miles on it. If you google this vehicle for blowers it is all over the internet, a manufacturer problem that only has a service bulletin. How nice of chrysler to know they have thousands of this issue and they do nothing about it. I am very displeased with the problems i am experiencing with this vehicle. Signed a very upset customer.

Horn goes off when door is opened, or when driving .have to beat the horn to turn this off.i smell an hot electronic smell.this is the 3rd time it has happened.

The horn will not stop blowing, i will be driving & the horn will go off until i beat the steering wheel to turn it off, it has scared several drivers & upset several drivers as well.it alsowent just sitting in the driveway waking up the neighbors. I have taken the car to the dealership & am being told it is something within the airbag & needs to be replaced, @ my cost not covered in the extended warranty.i have heard of a few other complaints of the same thing. It is a costly procedure & something i can not afford, this is a somewhat new car, i shouldn't have to pay for this, it sounds like a manufacuringissue.

The horn on my 2005 chrysler sebring gtc convertible started honking intermittently six times during the past 2 months.it is a safety issue, at least to me, that when the horn starts honking in heavy traffic on the freeway that not only am i distracted trying to shut the thing up but everyone around me is alarmed because a honking horn signals danger.i have taken out the fuse for the horn, so now i do not have a horn but that is preferable to repairing the problem or having a horn.i read on the internet others with the exact same problem and it seems no one is really sure how to handle it as there were different 'fixes' and some didn't work.

My wife and i had purchased an 05 chrysler sebring touring convertible from the huntington dealership with 22,800 mile on the clock. Several weeks after our purchase the nightmare had begun. The engine had over heated on the freeway, we had the vehicle towed and inspected by the glendale chrysler dealership. They released the vehicle back to use. We ran into the same problem another 2 times, and the exact same way and problem. The third time the dealership said that their was an air bubble and they had fixed the problem. Guess what happened recently the engine overheated again, but this time the engine has been damaged but chrysler doesn't want to fix the problem. I had the car towed to the semi valley dealership. Even though my warranty covers this, they don't want to be out of pocket. I have been without a vehicle for over a week, with them not allowing me a rental. I have had to seek other transport means which has cost me. At the current moment i am still without a vehicle i had to approve of an engine tear down to find the problem which has taken three days and will need an inspector from chrysler to come and approve the findings and the repair. All just so chrysler can try and point the finger (when the car has been nothing but trouble from the get go). And i'm not ever sure if chrysler will approve of the repair. I hope they will do what's in the customers interest considering the stress and heartache this has caused. I do know that i will never buy a chrysler again.

My chrysler sebring has had oil changes on, and the last time it was change the mechanic has informed that there is sludge in thenet and it is preventing the correct oil pressure to get to the engine and it could blow the engine.the cost however is more than i can afford (2500.00) to overhaul the engine.i have a 2005 sebring with approx 60,000 miles.

We already had a complete engine failure at 58,000 miles with our sebring in 2008.the car was under warranty and chrysler refused to fix the problem.we had to hire a lawyer and 5 months later we had an entirely new engine put in.one year later, the car is back in the shop because it overheats every 5 miles.we our on our third try after the dealerships has been sending it back saying they can't find anything wrong with it.

While driving, the seat belt lights come on when i am already buckled in. For example, 8.5 miles into my commute today (1/20/05), the seat belt light came on three times over the next 1.5 miles to my destination. I was buckled in.

Seat belt indicator light and tone will not stop even with seat belt securely attached.this causes a major distraction when driving and also leads to uncertainly as to the air bag interconnect system.the dealer was contacted on 05/15/09 and diagnosed it as a seat belt buckle/pretensioner failure and that this was not covered by warranty and wanted to charge $500.00 to fix it.this is a standard safety interconnect system and should not be subject to warranty issues and should be repaired.if this is happening with this automobile, which is a very common model, then it surely is happening to others and may have already caused or is going to cause accidents and possible failure of air bag, safety belt systems as they are interconnected.this is a constant problem and the driver has tried various methods of interfering with the warning system such as locking and unlocking the safety belt, jiggling the safety belt, holding the safety belt away from the body while driving etc.this is a very dangerous situation for drivers to have to deal with as it is distracting and could also result in improper restraint in the event of an accident.chrysler should fix this problem without question and should investigate to see if a recall is warranted.this began just over 30,000 miles and the owner contacted the dealer about 10,000 miles later when it was obvious that this problem was going to persist and there was nothing the owner could do to mitigate the problem.the dealer said it was not covered because the warranty on this item expired at 30,000.this vehicle has a 7 year, 70,000 mile drive train warranty.the vehicle, a 2005 chrysler sebring convertible, was purchased in 2006 from willits motors in susanville, california.willits was purchased by susanville auto center, 530-257-5092 and that dealership has been the one the owner has been dealing with and who has refused to repair the problem unless paid the outrageous sum of $500.00.

The seatbelt restraint carriage failed and has to be replaced.

The seat belt light/ chime lights up and sounds when driving, even though the seat belt seems to be securely buckled. Wiggling the seat belt makes the light go off. This occurs at least once per drive 90% of the time i drive the car. This causes a distraction while driving.

Seat belt light/bell goes off while driving, even though seat belt is buckled.jiggling seat belt latch takes care of it each time.

My friend rented a 2005 chrysler sebring convertible. I was releasing the front sear to get into the back seat. When i released the seat it came forward with tremendous force hitting on the side of the head and giving me essentially a case of whiplash. I then realized when i pulled the seat back they have very strong springs essentiallycocking the seat so that it springs forward with tremendous force. My friend made fun of me until he ended up doing the same thing the next day. I hope that you can find time to investigate this matter. I am sure we are not the only two that have experienced this type of injury. My neck is still stiff. If a smaller weaker person were hit in the side of the head with the same force, it might do some serious damage.

Going down curvey, hill, when started to brake my brakes malfunction.

I have 2005 chrysler sebring convertible, purchased in 2006, used from a local chrysler dealer with only 9000 miles. Today, july 16, 2009. It had a warranty of 3 years or 36000 miles. The upper ball joint is rattling around, took it to the dealer they gave me a estimate of 389.00. This is unacceptable. The part is clearly defective. My boyfriend is a mechanic. Ball joints should go 100,000 miles before replacement. I want to filea defect complaint. Laurie treadwell

The arm suspension went out.

I was backing out of driveway and the passenger side ball joint came apart. This let the control arm fall in to the rim. Breaking it and blowing out tire. Also damaged cv axle and passenger side fender. Prior to that about 3 months before the driver side ball joint did the same thing. This time i was slowing down to turn left. Also dropped control arm through the rim and tire. Thus damaging cv axle and fender. After this l checked in to this and seen there was a recall on this year vehicle. After checking my vin# i saw that my vehicle was not on the recall list. It seems to me that this should be investigated. An perhaps more vehicles should be added to the list for recall.

On 1/3/11 the horn malfunctioned worse then ever. It was like the horn has a mind of it's own. In the past it was only when i unlocked it and then it would finally stop a few minutes later. But then i honked my horn at someone coming into my lane and the horn would not stop. Then it would do a few short honks and then it just stopped. I went to run errands and it just kept honking at all different times. I tried hitting the horn really hard but that didn't always work. Then it didn't work when i wanted it to. I pulled into the dealership, with it honking, they couldn't do anything, said the fuse was also for the steering column and couldn't be disconnected and still be drive-able. I have researched this issue and can not believe how many people with sebrings from 2000-06 have had this same problem without any resolution and their has not been a recall from chrysler. This is a major safety issue, especially since i don't know if my airbag still works. I had to disconnect the horn fuse (which the dealer said couldn't be done). Because the mechanics there couldn't figure out how to repair the horn malfunction and it was no longer under warranty, i could not afford to pay them to try to figure it out on my dime. My ex put in a button and connected it the horn.they was an okay fix but then my battery started draining and i would find it dead if i didn't drive for a couple of days. The way my ex wired the button is was putting a drain on the battery. So again, no horn!!! total safety issue!!! well, it happened, which so many times i was able to avoid, yell or whistle out the window to an driver not paying attention. Well, on 5/3/14, it couldn't be avoided, i had nowhere to go, a driver t-boned right into me. Had my horn worked, it may have been avoided or at least minimized. I was out of work for months, still in major neck pain and where is chrysler with the recall?????

Dt*:the contact stated while sitting in the vehicle for 30 minutes the passenger side window exploded.the passenger side door had not been opened nor had anything hit the window prior to the incident.glass was blown both inside and outside of the vehicle; however no injuries were sustained.the temperature was in the low to mid 70's on the day of the incident.the dealer was alerted.
