Air bag light on 2002 chrysler sebring gtc convertible mysteriously goes on & off.this seems to be a stock trouble for this particular auto as seen on the internet.
Airbag clockspring failed under normal driving conditions.car has 41,000 miles.
"air bag" light began illuminating intermittently when car was approximately 9 months old.could not duplicate for repair. Problem continues intermittently and brought in to a chrysler dealer about november of 2004 and resulted in replacement of "seat belt tensioner".problem continued intermittently after about 3 months.brought into a chrysler dealer for service a third time in december of 2005.dealer wants $500+ for replacement of "seat belt tensioner" again and a clock spring (?) in the steering column.
Airbag light staying on, and clicking noise in steering wheel when turning.took to dealership where we purchased vehicle.they replaced a clock spring.
The airbag light in my 2002 chrysler sebring lxi convertible comes on constantly. It comes on and off as it pleases. I am worried this is a safety issue. The chrysler dealership "fixed" it but a few months (after warranty was expired) it was back on. This has been an ongoing issue for about a year.
Air bag light is on, stays on, and the alarm for it intermittently sounds.
The airbag light has come on and off for the last couple of month. I took it to the dealership and also did some research online regarding the light only to find that this is a more than common, irreparable issue. On 2/10/2015, while driving- specifically coming to a stop, i saw a swirl of what appeared to be smoke, coming out around the steering column.a woman, with only my son in the car, i was fearful, pulled the car to the side and had it towed.i have since been advised that what i saw was not smoke, rather, powder from the airbag which is apparently leaking. That has not been repaired. I resumed driving and after about a day and a half, the air bag light is back on.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible.while the contact's daughter was driving 30 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed.his daughter crashed into another vehicle and the front air bags failed to deploy.a police report was filed.the insurance company stated that the vehicle was destroyed and would not investigate why the air bags did not deploy.the contact's daughter received injuries to her face and neck.the failure mileage was 68,000.
My clock spring failed rendering my horn, air bag, and cruise controlinoperable.this seems to be a common problem with chyrsler products.
The horn doesn't work , check engine light always on, airbags light onclock spring needs to be replace, and it seems that a lot of people are having the same problem ...my car wont be able to pass the emission test...ac compressor doesn't work .
Heard cracking noises from steering column. Air bag indicator light came on; horn does not work; cruise control does not work. Note: dealer aware of problem. "air bag clock spring" failure.part is currently on national backorder from chrysler, according to dealer service mgr. As a result, vehicle does not have a functioningair bag srs, horn, or cruise control. Basically, this one part failure has rendered the vehicle unsafe and illegal to operate while i await a manufacturer's back ordered part.
Second failure of2002 chrysler sebring convertible air bag deployment .my wife had a head -on collision of left fender while turning. The airbag did not deploy. This is athe second timeof anaccident and the airbag did not deploy.my wife suffered asevere concussion again from the steering wheel although she was wearing a seat belt. Is there a sebring air bag problem similar to the chrysler mini-van deployment. Car is currently located at dealer undergoing repairs. *nlm
My air bag light has come on and has been on for over 3 months. I saw today on wink news that 2002 chryslers were being recalled due to air bags. I looked up my vehicle by vin number and it says 0 recalls. Could you please let me know if auto is safe to drive.
2002 sebring convertible lxi with multiple still yet unresolved "electrical" problems : door locks (8+ times attempted repair) front passenger power window(2x attempted repair) , airbag light resulting failed seat belt tensioner(2x), wiper moter failed, stereo sytem (2x), other issues.
Major headache has been the recent engine damage as a result of what may be oil sludge gathered in the motor.engine seized briefly upon switching from 1st to 2nd gear, then began "clicking" upon acceleration or deceleration to/from high rpms (upshifting and downshifting).chrysler dealership claims the problem is broken connector rod and bearing in #2 cylinder, which necessitates a new engine.estimated price tag: $10,000 (more than vehicle's worth).other problems with this vehicle have included faulty passenger airbag part that required replacement; persistent dimming/flickering of instrument panel lights; multiple battery and headlight burnouts; emission leaks on two separate occasions requiring two separate repairs; and cd player skipping, requiring (according to chrysler) a completely new stereo system.speakers are somewhat shot and the driver-side sunvisor clip broke under slight pressure.
Ran in back of vehicle.air bag didn't deploy.car is in shop being repaired.would like to know if this is happening on all chryler
Air bag warning light has come on several times for varying periods of time.under warranty they have replaced right front seat belt tensioner and seat belt buckle. Warning light still comes on sometimes.they said that the bags will not operate when the light is on.the light must be on for them to work on it and it will normally be out by the time that i make an appointment and get it in.
1.airbag light intermittently goes on.. No accident or damage yet3.multiple trips to service dealer to fix seats, seat belts, and air bag light/sensor.
Dt:the contact stated the srs light came on intermittently.the first time he took the vehicle to the dealership, and they were unable to diagnose the problem.the second time, they replaced the retracting spring in the passenger's side seat belt.the problem recurred. The dealership replacedthe clock spring in the steering column and the retractor spring in the seat belt.the vehicle is currently at the dealership being repaired.
Engine light sensor, air bag sensor keeps coming on.took in to dealer for engine light sensor 3 months ago to correct that.today, took in to dealer for air bag sensor light which kept coming on every 10 seconds.dealer stated because of a bad sensor in the seatbelt contraption air bag light was coming on--doesn't make sense to me.so, of course they had to order some kind of part to the tune of 118 dollars plus labor so bill was 330 dollars to fix something which i believe is defective and their fault.what the air bag light has to do with the seat belt is beyond me.noticed a similiar complaint on your site dated september 30, 2004 at 03:21 pm for same model car.i think this needs to be investigated.as the person stated in their complaint, air bag can deploy for no reason, or air bag will not deploy in the event of accident.i believe this is a severe safety issue here.
I have leased my 2002 sebring convertiable lxi on sept 9, 2002 since then the car has been back for numerous times. Beginning not even 3 months and 500 miles into lease. I started having problems with it. Electrical (air bag light, altertator light, engine light, driver side heated seat), transmission has recently had been serviced and parts have been replaced, i have been telling chrysler (dealership) since about 500 miles and they told me it wasn't anything, they recently replaced a couple of things at about 26,866. I was having and still having trouble with the ignition key not coming out of the ignition on my last service (march 04) they've replaced the ignition collar. I have tried to return or trade in for a new chrysler car but they say since i am in a lease there's nothing i could do about it. The air bag light is still coming on every 10 seconds since my last service march 04 but they say nothing is wrong. From what i understand correctly there's two things that could happen 1. Air bag will not deplote if i was in an accident and 2. It could deplote at any given time while i'm driving. So needless to say i do not feel safe driving this car. The dealership doesn't seem to care.can you help me .
While driving on the highway, the word "deck" appeared on the dashboard. Then a series of numbers appeared, along with a beeping sound. Before i could pull over, the steering and brakes locked up and i went into a 360 degree spin. I had no control of the car. The chrysler final came to a stop on its own. Chrysler has refused to investigate the mechanical aspects of the car and so the car is totaled. I have since met others who have had similar experience but traded the car before they were injured. This was a definite mechanical failure that i was able to survive and others around me. Chrysler should check this out.
I have a 2002 sebring limited convertible that he had purchased in august 2012 with at the time just over 64k on the digital clock. It now has just over 71k on it. A few months before this i had an electrical issue that looked like a burned wire somewhere and a puff of smoke under the drivers side engine compartment. I tightened up the loose remote ground on the strut tower and everything was fine. A few weeks late i turned the car off and restarted and it was fine. Well about 2 weeks ago i went down to the doctors office and back and armed the security system like normal. Later i happened to look in the car and the security light was not flashing. I open the door and there is no miles on odometer, no dash response from the gauges, warning lights except for the e-brake light and oil pressure light. Also no horn, wipers, dome lights, trunk release, power door locks/keyless entry, ac, rear defroster, dash lights, warning lights, the trip computer indicates the compass heading but nothing else, no power top or heated seats either. Now, here's what's working. The car starts and seems to drive as normal, i have as i said the e-brake light and the oil pressure light on the dash, the power windows, outside lights, turn signals and hazards, reverse lights, radio/amp, power mirrors. The transmission indicator on the dash. I basically now own a 2500lb paperweight.
I bought the car brand new, added the extended warranty and had several things go wrong.just to name a few:engine shut down without warning and had to be replaced when it was just over the 100,000 mile warranty even though oil changes and regular maintenance was done 3-4000 miles, transmission pan had metal shavings in it which resulted in poor performance, control arm had to be replaced after chrysler dealership told me the problem was the motor mounts(i did not need the mounts replaced and the repair was not done under warranty), water pump & thermostat housing(was told both weren't covered and should have been), rear window defroster replaced and/or fixed three times, driver power window regulator replaced(glass had to be replaced because of damage from the regulator, which i paid), visor vanity light-part ordered but "too late" when tried to have it replaced(was not notified that part was in), dash lights-on & off, headlights replace several times, hub seal replaced, passenger seat adjust arm broken, lighter inoperative, check engine light on first month i had the car!
My chrysler sebring gtc, with standard transmission, without warning would not allow me to shift the car.i had to come to a stop on a busy street.the car would not let me shift to any gear, it was still running.this was caused my the failure of a disc modular (electrical device) part number spd 05062200aa.it does not make since that this electrical part failure would make the car inoperative.this is not safe.this could have happen driving at a higher speed.i was in town on rt. 7in slower traffic when it happened.i could see the check engine light coming on with the failure of this part, but not the car being totally inoperative the car had less than 3,500 miles of use when this happened.

Approximately a month after i purchased the car new, i was driving home from work very late at night, my lights went out about 4 or 5 times. They would come right back on when i hit the dimmer switch, but it was really frightening. I took the car back to the dealer and they found a loose wire in the steering column. Now, 2 years later, may 2005, on the way home from work at 2a.m. My lights went out two times and came back on when i hit the dimmer switch.

Dt*:the contact stated the air bag lamp intermittently illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the dealer determined the problem was in the wiring of the seat belt.the vehicle is currently having the wiring harness to the seat belt connections replaced.

We bought this car used in 2010 with 69,000.it was great for a minute and then...hoses, water pump, tensioners, a lot of tensioners, drive chain, sensor for some timing issue, thermostat, fuel pump, a bolt that sheared off the oil pan. Check engine light was on, with the coded for gas cap.no matter how many gas caps (5).it leaked oil from different places.get one seal replaced , it would leak from somewhere else.towed at least 6 times.last time it was 100 degrees, it started missing, smoking.it ended up being the battery, but i was way too paranoid to drive this car any more.too much money and stress.not sure i ever want to own another chrysler.i traded it in and i am sorry for the next person that owns it.these issues started at approximately 75,000.traded in at 132,000.
Oil light comes on a lot, especially when stopped, car smells badly of oil burning and smokes a lot, scary when driving, also air and heat only work on high very annoyingi would never buy a chrysler again.
In april 2011, we purchased a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible limited edition (with 2.7 engine)from a privite owner.in january 2013 it was towed to napleton chrysler dealership in kissimmee.they still have our vehicle.we had purchased an extended warranty from gold key for $2695.00 which is still in effect, but they will not cover the engine due to the sludge build up.this car was only used for leisure and we put less than 3,000 miles since we have owned it.also, we had the oil changed using synthetic. My husband is on disability and we can not afford to pay for an engine replacement.unfortunately, i think we will have to junk the car.
This was a properly maintained vehicle which had sudden engine failure at just over 55,000 miles.the oil pressure light flashed on and within seconds, the engine began to lose power.like many other registered complaints (on this site and other sites), investigation revealed oil sludge and excess oil burnoff which led to catastrophic engine failure.i was quoted a minimum of $3500 for engine replacement, though research suggests that the engine for the vehicle is flawed (though chrysler has apparently refused to address ongoing issues with oil sludge and engine failure).
I purchased a 2002 sebring convertible limited edition one year ago.i maintained the car, changed the oil regularly, and put 20,000 miles on the car before it threw a rod.i had changed the oil 2 days prior to this event.the car has under 100,000 miles total.the dealership quoted me $8000 to repair the engine.they will only give me $1000 on a trade, leaving me in too much negative equity (-$6400) to afford another vehicle.they are unyielding in every aspect and refuse to help me get into another vehicle or to repair what is clearly a common problem with these engines.it didn't take much research to learn these engines are junk.now i am renting a vehicle and still do not know what i am going to do.they are forcing me into a repo situation, which will absolutely ruin my credit.not to mention, i cannot get into another car with that one still in financing.since i had the oil changed at another shop, they blamed the shop and said they did something wrong.funny, the same shop and same guy has been changing my oil for 20 years and i've never had any problems before.i was almost hit when the incident occurred as i could not safely get off the freeway.this has been a nightmare!and still, i have no vehicle.
Car takes forever for the engine to warm up, sometimes stalling & hard to start. The heater most of the time does not work in my 2002 chrysler sebring lxi, it only blows cold air.the seat heater works, however it has a loud noise on the drivers side when operating.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible.while driving approximately 70 mph, the contact heard a loud noise and the vehicle spontaneously stalled.the vehicle was towed to a local repair shop and the technician speculated that the oil pump locked up, which may have caused the failure.the technician also stated that he needed to replace the engine at the cost of $4,700.the contact is in the process of having the vehicle repaired.the manufacturer was unable to assist.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 65,000.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible.while driving approximately 50-55 mph, the contact heard a knocking sound while braking and accelerating.the noise persisted for three days.on the fourth day, while braking to stop the vehicle, the engine shut off.in order to restart the vehicle, she had to shift the gear into park.later the same day, the vehicle lost power while driving approximately 55 mph.the contact was able to drive to a local repair facility and a diagnostic indicated that the map sensor was defective, and the oxygen in the fuel injection was not operating properly.the mechanic advised her that the part would be available the following day; however, she was later informed that there was a national back order.this meant that they had no idea when the part would be available.the contact is unable to reach the manufacturer.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current mileage was 53,000 and failure mileage was 52,500.updated 10/30/08. *ljthe consumer stated the vehicle would stall at various times. I bought the car 2 weeks ago. Everything was fine. I change the oil, replaced spark plugs like i do to all cars i buy. About 2 days ago the oil light started to turn on. Took it to the mechanic and he told me it might be a sensor. Changed the sensor but the light still turned on. Took it back to the shop & after a better inspection he told me it was the oil pump. Told me not to drive it until i get it fixed and that it would cost me $1000 to replace it. I'm writing this complaint because after a search online i can see i was not the only one with this type of problem.

This complaint follows others that own the sebring conv. And the sludge buildup,.i also do reg. Maint. On the vehicle and now have an engine that has seized & failed in the middle of the highway almost causing a pileup. I have researched this vehicle and have found numerous complaints on this problem, not only on this site but several others, i also understand that a class action suit is being brought against chrysler on the 2.7ltr engine for this fact. The oil light kept flickering took it in to have it checked out and could not find anything wrong, levels correct, it would go out for a while and then boom. This would go on like every 3 months or so since i have owned this car .never again chrysler. Will it take a death for you to order a recall on these engines???
My car quit in the middle of the street because the engine failed.cost of repair is $3,600.
I was on my way to work on june 28th the car began to knock and shake wildly. My engine just blew, i had oil changes regularly. After doing some research and working to find me a new engine, my mechanic said that this engine is notorious for blowing and they usually go at 50,000 miles. At least i got 70,000. It is sitting in his shop right now, i can't pay for it. This car cost $30,000. New. I leased it now it will cost $36,000. And i will have nothing to show for it come december!
Dt:the contact stated the engine started to knock, it was taken to a chrysler dealership, and they stated the crankshaft needed to be replaced.the dealership then called and said it needed a new engine, and chrysler would provide a rebuilt engine.according to the dealership, the problem was due tothe contact'snegligence.he changed the oilhimself, and had no proof to show it was maintained properly.therefore, chrysler was not going to fix the vehicle under warranty.
A fuel pump was replaced in the car. After the repair the car ran bad and the engine light was on. Dealer advised it was only oil sludge and it was okay to drive.the car experienced a complete engine failure while driving on the interstate.
I just bought a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible.i have had the car for a month, i bought it from my mother.the oil was changed right before i bought it and i haven't driving more than 3000 miles since i bought the car.on friday october 22nd, 2010 my engine started knocking when i started it up and when i started driving it, the oil light started flickering and the engine stalled out at every stop light.the car started jerking while i was driving it and i had aaa come tow it to their auto shop and they confirmed that i will need a new engine for the car.it has approximately 92,000 miles on it and the mechanic told me about the problems the 2.7 liter engines in chryslers and dodges.i can't afford to replace the engine especially since i just paid money for this car about a month ago!i am so upset!
I was driving on freeway and engine gave out and i got stuck on shoulder, had to call a tow truck and my mechanic said my engine seized.i have my care serviced regularly and did not know of this engine/oil sludge problem.i cannot afford a new engine or to buy a new car.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 20 mph on a dry smooth highway, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning.the vehicle started back, but there was a very loud noise coming from the engine.there were no problems prior to this incident.the contact maintained oil changes every 3,000 miles.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined the engine failed and needed to be replaced.the mechanic informed the contact this was an ongoing problem with this motor.
I followed the maintenence schedule on my 2002 chrysler sebring with regular scheduled oil changes, yet i am now faced with replacing the engine because of oil sludge build up in my 2.7 engine.i understand that this is a well known and common problem.the quote from the chrysler service dept is 10k for replacement.
Engine died due to oil sludge problem, however, we kept the car in good condition and performed maintenance regularly.
The horn doesn't work , check engine light always on, airbags light onclock spring needs to be replace, and it seems that a lot of people are having the same problem ...my car wont be able to pass the emission test...ac compressor doesn't work .
I have a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible, with 56k miles, with a blown engine, rod thru it due to oil sludge.oil was changed on the car every 4 months.
The enginedied. Taken to repair shop, no compression, engine shot. 63,000.
While traveling on the highway she heard a noise coming from underneath the vehicle.the vehicle started shaking andshe lost power.vehicle completely shut down.the dealership is aware of the problem.mr
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible.while driving 50 mph, the engine stalled.there were no warning indicators prior to the failure.the vehicle would not restart and was towed to the dealer.the dealer stated that there was oil sludge in the engine that caused the engine to fail.no repairs were made.the current and failure mileages were 81,000. Updated 03/18/08.*ljthe consumer stated the vehicle is still under warranty. Updated 03/18/08
While driving 20 mph driver heard a loud knocking noise coming from the front. Suddenly, the vehicle jerked and vibrated. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the engine needed to be replaced.
Auto was running normal.. Then heard noise from car.. Started tofeel hesitation as i pressed on gas pedal. It would run ok for a few minutes then hesitation felt again. Drove to chrysler dealership nearby..days later i was calledto be told a new engine is required..dealership and chrysler refusing to honor warranty, despite fact that car has been maintained properly..told by dealership car is too dangerous to start or drive without new engine..had to have it towed off their lot april 04..fearful to even turn the ignition ..it sits in my garage..owned car for 18 months attime of failure with less than 28,000 miles.. Please help..edc.
Driving on the morning of august 6, 2007 and my car's oil came on, which it has in the past and nothing could be found wrong. A few miles down the road my car's engine began to knock and smoke. When iopened the engine the car was completely out of oil. And there was no leak. When i got the car to a local dealership i was told that my engine was gone.
Motor failed at 75,600 miles when the oil had been changed every 3-4,000 miles.
I am yet another owner of a chyrsler sebring with the 2.7l motor going bad do to engine oil sludging that chrysler refuses to address with a recall.it is in a 2002ith 72,000 miles on the engine.brian kleshinskio od
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible.while driving 60 mph, the vehicle shut off in the middle of the highway.the road conditions were not a factor.the failure occurred while exiting off of the highway.the contact struggled to maintain control of the vehicle.he was informed that a new engine would be needed at the cost of $3,000.the failure occurred without warning.the contact did not want to restart the engine because there was too much oil all over the engine and hood of the vehicle.the vehicle was towed to a mechanic and he stated that the failures were caused by a jump timing and faulty parts.there were no crashes, injuries, or property damage done to the vehicle.the vehicle is still at the repair shop, but no repairs have been made.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 112,000.

I recently purchased a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible from a private individual and after a few weeks had the car in the garage for a quick checkup.my mechanic said the engine with only 50,000 original miles looks like it is from a vehicle with 150,000 miles because of the sludge buildup.i am afraid to purchase a used engine (which is hard to find to begin with) because it may fail because of the problem with these engines from sludge and also the timing chain problem i have discovered after much research of the 2.7l engine on the internet.instead i have to pay over $5000.00 to have a remanufactured engine installed in my used vehicle.
Driving on i-295 in the evening when engine suddenly, dramatically and without warning lost power and started stalling.my wife was very nearly struck by traffic from behind due to the sudden loss of power while on a major highway.we were informed by a local mechanic that the engine is blown and needs to be replaced.
2.7 liter engines my mechanic said they are bad designs he has had alot ofcome in his shop with rods knocking.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible.while driving 50 mph the vehicle suddenly decelerated and shut off.the contact waited five minutes, and was able to restart the vehicle.approximately ten minutes later the vehicle shut off again without warning.the contact opened the hood, and noticed oil and antifreeze leaking throughout the engine.the mechanic stated that fluids backed up into the engine.the roads were wet due to rain, however there was no water found in the engine.the mechanic stated that the engine needed to be replaced.no additional failures have occurred.the current and failure mileages were 95,000.
Automobile was running normally, suddenly there was a loud "clacking sound" from the engine, oil light went on, car shut off as i slowed down and pulled off of the turnpike.chrysler is refusing to honor warranty, despite fact that car has been maintained properly.a new engine is required (this is the infamous 2.7 chrysler/dodge engine).

Upon acceleration engine hesitates, nearly causing driver behind to rear end me. Pulled off street to check that car was running ok, seemed fine. 9 miles into commute. Oil light flickers, pulled into gas station within 4 blocks, scared engine would lock up or blow. Checked oil, dry dipstick! purchased 2 quarts, added 1 & barely registered on dipstick. Added 2nd, now registered over filled (oil in engine was held back due to sludge, & released while adding new oil?). Oil light stops flickering & is off. 1 more mile to work. Engine hesitated a couple of times during a.m. & p.m. Commutes.9:58 p.m., 11 miles into p.m. Commute stop at gas station, check oil. Before opening hood, noticed antifreeze odor, couldn't tell if coming from my car or others nearby. Oil still registered on dipstick as overfilled. Noticed steam coming from engine near mid front of car, passenger side, could not find exact location. Purchased coolant just in case. Final 2 miles of commute, temp gauge registered higher than normal.10/29, 8:00 a.m. Take car to dealership. Drip marks on driveway from evening before. Arrived at dealership service, informed me they were no longer chrysler dealership/service as of oct. 1, (sign outside & cars in the lot had not been taken away). Diagnosis: replace water pump, oil, ac & power steering belts, oil sending unit, timing chain & gears, tensioners & upper connectors. Estimate: $1,548. 2nd opinion: replace water pump, valve cover gasket, thermostat, belts, & oil for $1,371. Also suggested replacing timing chain, total $2,500. However, the shop had 15-year former chrysler service veteran on staff who suggested i not make repairs because the engine will seize soon, and i'd be wasting money.still making payments on car.
Engine started to knock , shut off towed home parked ever since . 4000.00 to replace engineunable to afford.
On 1/15/2002 consumer was driving at a speed of 55 miles per hour. Suddenly, the car began decelerating rapidly.consumer pushed down on the accelerator, but the vehicle failed to respond.instead, it continued its rapid deceleration.it felt as though the engine had simply died.there was a vehicle behind consumer which came very close to my rear end.this experience nearly caused an accident.after a few moments, consumer was able to proceed at a normal speed.consumer contacted a local chrysler dealership the next day, described the problem, and brought the car in for testing.the dealership was unable to recreate the problem.jlg
The car began to make a loud noise from the engine area that sounded like a loud muffler.we took it to the mechanic near our home who diagnosed it with a failed tensioner spring on the timing belt which caused engine sludge.
Sludge in engine makes loud noise nees new engine.

The horn doesn't work , check engine light always on, airbags light onclock spring needs to be replace, and it seems that a lot of people are having the same problem ...my car wont be able to pass the emission test...ac compressor doesn't work .
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible.the contact could not see the road when driving various speeds at night.he could only see when the high beam lights were activated.the mechanic stated that the lenses should be replaced.as of december 20, 2007, the mechanic had not replaced the lenses.the failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 159,000. Updated 01/17/08 the consumer stated the mechanic informed him the cost for the repair would be $600.00. Updated 01/17/08

A fuel pump was replaced in the car. After the repair the car ran bad and the engine light was on. Dealer advised it was only oil sludge and it was okay to drive.the car experienced a complete engine failure while driving on the interstate.

Driving on i-295 in the evening when engine suddenly, dramatically and without warning lost power and started stalling.my wife was very nearly struck by traffic from behind due to the sudden loss of power while on a major highway.we were informed by a local mechanic that the engine is blown and needs to be replaced.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle was taken to the dealership because there was a loud rumbling noise coming from the right front side of the vehicle.the dealership determined the right front axle was defective due to the poor quality of the material.the right front axle was replaced.within 1,000 miles later, the noise and the vibration returned on the right front side of the vehicle. The dealership determined the left front axle was also defective and replaced the left front axle.the consumer stated there is still a noise present. Updated 08/14/06.
Passenger seat pre-tensioner replaced.

1.airbag light intermittently goes on.. No accident or damage yet3.multiple trips to service dealer to fix seats, seat belts, and air bag light/sensor.
Driver side seat belt pre-tensioner failed twice. Under 25,00 miles at time of failure. Dealer service department stated "open ciricut in pre-tensioner electrical component.have friend with same car which had seat belt pre-tensioner fail four time. This is a safety issue as it effects correct operation of seatbelt resulting in possible injury to driver and/or passenger.
Seat belt tensioner on driver's side has failed twice.the first time at 27k miles & the second time 1 year & 5 days later at 43k miles.when it fails the air bag light comes on & i'm told this means that the air bag has been disabled thus possible severe injury if a crash occurs. Warranty is 12 months or 12k miles.

Car takes forever for the engine to warm up, sometimes stalling & hard to start. The heater most of the time does not work in my 2002 chrysler sebring lxi, it only blows cold air.the seat heater works, however it has a loud noise on the drivers side when operating.
The front passenger seat heater caught on fire and brunt a hole through the seat and through a pillow that was laying on the seat.the seat heater was accidentally engaged because of the location of engage button. The fire occurred due to an electrical failure in the seat heater system.dealership is only recovering the seat.

I purchased this vehicle last dec,2014.. It is a used vehicle though, its in very good condition.i was backing out of my drive way approx. 2 weeks after i bought it & the right side passenger side the suspension, arm & ball joint just fell out.. The day prior to this i heard a definite knock from that wheel base.in fact when i was backing out of the drive, i was on my way to the mechanic. Well, being stranded, i had to call a tow service to haul it in for repair.. They said they could replace it,& the charge for the assembly would cost $112.00 plus.. Havingit replaced & repaired. It is now 10 months later & the knocking is back & my concern is that it will fall out when i'm driving causing an awful accident. This is wear i stand now w/ this issue that is recorded under your recall descriptions. Thank you..

Driving north on i-75 i lost control over my 2002 chrysler sebring convertible - the car veered left crossed one lane and hit the median concrete divider.2 failures were the brakes and the steering became unresponsive as i was unable to apply the brakes and unable to steer the car. There was no skid marks reported by the police report.the driver airbag ripped and did not successfully blow. The passenger airbag deployed properly.i suspect that the main cause cause of this accident was the lack of steering, which caused the car to veer left and hit the center concrete divider.the car is currently in storage in royal oak, michigan and is a total loss.
11/7/2003 traveling north bound on sprinkle rd. In kalamazoo michigan, my fiancee was stopped at the red light at bl-i94 my vehicle came off the red light traveling at 35 miles per hour.a van or suv that had also been stopped at the light in front of her swerved into another lane bringing to her view a slow or stopped kalamazoo township police cruiser.my fiancee hit the brakes and the pedal locked to the floor and locked the wheels on the car.at the same time the engine accelerated leaving little to no braking power.my car slid 78 feet according to the skid marks on the pavement only coming to a stop after rearending the police cruiser.*la

My 2002 convertible chrysler sebring limited edition left steering axle ball joint fell out of place while i was driving at about 25 mile per hour. The vehicle has mileage of 80,000. I made a complaint to chrysler corporation after i found that there is a recall since october 2009 on the same part that failed and the same make and model. I was told by chrysler that my vin was not on the list of cars recalled. I have already paid for the repair and seeking reimbursement from chrysler corporation.
On the way home from work the left front ball joint socket separated. I was going 50 mph. On a straight road, no pot holes or bumps.there was a loud bang, front end dropped down, left front tire flipped sideways and there i was stuck on the side of the road. I have 35 years in the collision industry and do not understand how this happens, other than a poor part from the start. These parts should never separate. I checked for recalls and there are none on my car. But i would think there should be. I have insurance that will pay for repairs other than the ball joint. Going to have the other side replaced also. This happened at 5pm on a busy road, there was lots of traffic. I was pleased that nobody creamed me while i tried to gain control of car and man handle it off the road. I see many of the same complaints on here. This could have been a lot worse.

I was parallel parking and my tire came off ?!? i only have 110000 miles on it ! thats unexpectable . I'm could have been in a serious accident. I could have. Have been killed
Water/rain leak excessively through the seals of my convertible.dealership is aware of the problem and after taking the vehicle there four times for this problem, they told me that it is a convertible and it is suppose to leak.i know other people who have the same vehicle and do not have the same problem as i. *nlm

On may 22, 2011, i was driving my 2002 chrysler sebring convertible onto a main road here in florida and all of the sudden there was a huge thud, my car crashed to the ground, and it jolted forward after forcing a stop. I got out of the car and the body of my front passenger side had fallen on top of my tire. The police arrived and said that it was my control arm. I spent over $150 getting it towed numerous places and i was finally told that it was my front control arm and lower ball joint. They told me it was going to be $1500 to repair because my drivers side control arm and lower ball joint look like they are going to do the same thing. I went to the vehicle center section on my car insurance website and to my surprise there are three vehicle recalls for my year and model. I did not think that i was going to find anything, but there is a recall for the exact thing that happened to my car. I called the manufacturer and they said that my vin does not match for any recalls. This is a very dangerous situation. The exact thing that is being recalled happened to me, but it doesn't seem to matter. Shouldn't my safety be number one?the police and towing company, as well as my parents, said that i am lucky to be alive. If i would have been on the highway that i was headed to and the control arm and ball joint would have broken/fallen off, i could have been seriously injured or worse. There needs to be justification for them to deny my claim. Just because it doesn't fall under their recall list doesn't mean it shouldn't.these types of parts are made to last in all other cars. My car is not that old, and this didn't just happen out of the blue. I think that my car should be checked out for the recall, otherwise the other one is going to do the same thing, and next time i might not be so lucky.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the rear passenger side wheel became fractured and folded under the vehicle. Also, the contact mentioned that moments later the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the technician diagnosed that the upper control arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred on the rear driver's side wheel. The failure mileage was 107,000 and the current mileage was 112,000.
Car has been brought in for service 3 times to correct a thumping sound from the front of the car when starting from a stand stil or very slow rolling.dealers (2) have been unable to find reason, tightening front axel bolts on one occasion with no effect.

There was a creaking sound underneath the front passenger side seat when all of a sudden the front of the car dropped down and i had difficulty controlling the car.the right front ball joint had broken.prior to this event i had been driving 55mph with 2 children in the car.thankfully, i had dropped the children off and was traveling at 25 mph when the failure occurred.
Driving across rr tracks at less than the posted speed and the driver's side rear strut mount broke and began banging in the well area of my 2002 chrysler sebring convertible.i contacted several local garages, the chrysler dealership where i purchased the car, and mopar parts online to get price and availability on the part. I've been told by everyone, the part # 4879071 ad is on national back order with no availability date. Per mopor some customers have been waiting over 5 months for the part. Per the dealership no recall or safety bulletin has been issued on this part.per the dealership and mopar there are over 5,000 mounts on backorder and none are getting filled. I can not fix the failure due to unavailability of the part.with this many on back order, apparently there is a problem and no one is addressing or willing to admit there is a problem and correct it.

I just got my car and it already has problems i was interested in the dealer where i got to fix it since i only had it about 2wks i really like my car.
To whom it may concern, on thursday, may 13, 2015,at approx. 2:00 p.m.,i was breaking to make a right turn onto another road when i noticed my car kept accelerating when my foot wasn't on the gas pedal. (there are no floor mats in the car). My boyfriend was sitting in the passenger seat.i had never experienced this in my life!i kept my foot on the brake and each time i let off the brake, the speed accelerated w/o my doing it.my boyfriend put the car in (n) & told me to pull over in the grass off the shoulder.he then turned off the ignition.(it was a mix of grass & mud). I needed assistance to get unstuck.thankfully, i was able to get the car to stop before going into an intersection that was just ahead.with the car off, my boyfriend pumped the gas pedal aprox 3 times then started my car.the problem had stopped.i was very shaken up since realizing i we &/or others could've been killed because of this defect.i purchased this car on 4/2/15 from an individual.please help me and others, by contacting the chrysler corporation about this preventable matter of life & death.thank you for your immediate attention!

Dt: 2002 chrysler sea bring convertible lx - the car was bought used. Since owning the car several times asapproachinga stop the vehicle will rev and surgeforward.once the vehicle surges forward hasto slam on the brakes to get the vehicle to stop. Took it to a chrysler dealership, and they were unable to duplicate the problem. Also, were are unable to tell the consumer why the vehicle did this.the last time this happened was when the consumer pulled into my garage and the vehicle surged. The consumer lost control, hitting objects in the garage. The vehicle was not under recall.
On a number of occasions, vehicle will accelerate without warning. When applying brakes, engine revs up to 4000 rpm and vehicle becomes impossible to control. Major rear-end freeway accident resulted on third failure. Airbags did not deploy. Dealer is aware of problem but has been unable to duplicate.
This is a brand new car, my first problem with the car happen when it had about 1,300 miles.when i go to accelerate car (press on the gas) the car does not respond, but then "lurches" forward at a high rate of speed, requiring me to slam on brakes.when the brakes are applied to stop the car, it then shakes and stops or almost stops working.this has happened to me 4 times since buying my car in december, 2001.once, near my home, the car started lurching at a very high speed--when my foot was not on the gas, and i almost hit a small child in our neighborhood.this car gives no forwarning and if i turn the motor off and let it rest for several hours, it begins to drive normally again.this car is unsafe, in that it is hard for me to control when it mysteriously accelerates at high speeds and then stops running. I have taken the car in 3 times for repairs, and once a different computer part was replaced, etc. But the problem persists.the other times i experienced this prbolem was on downtown bridge, and on inner city streets.each time, i was lucky not to have injured myself or others.please note that very similar problems have been recorded for this same make and model for the year 2001.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible. While reversing out at 2 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 4000 rpms. The contact engaged the brakes but the vehicle continued to rev. She then engaged the parking brake, shifted into park and shut off the vehicle. The failure occurred six times in one month. The contact stated that on one occasion, the vehicle accelerated and when she attempted to brake, her forehead hit the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the engine was cleaned along with other repairs (the contact was unsure of what the other repairs were). The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000 and the current mileage was 81,049.
Car takes forever for the engine to warm up, sometimes stalling & hard to start. The heater most of the time does not work in my 2002 chrysler sebring lxi, it only blows cold air.the seat heater works, however it has a loud noise on the drivers side when operating.
On 2002 chrysler sebring convertible the wires and connectors for the rear window defrost get pulled of the rearview window everytime the top is being lowered / raised.this has happened since the car was new and at the end of the summer we have it reattached by the dealer at a cost of nearly $100.-. This is the 4th time, and it cannot be fixed anymore without changing the glass. Even after the glass will be replaced the same problem will happen again. The wires for the rear defrost are either too short or routed wrong. The dealer has informed us that they have more customers with the same problem. Dealer says they tried to contact chrysler but they are unable / unwilling to find a fix.dealer is town & country chrysler, 13733 aurora ave n, seattle wa, tel# 206 365 3530. The silver team (jeff) is the one that has serviced the car and has been dealing with the problem.

Rear window defroster wire is always falling off the glass, so that it never works.
While driving 55 mph during icy conditions, the consumer could not see out of the exterior rear view mirrors, due to icing.the consumer was under the impression that the mirrors were heated .the dealership claims that the mirrors were not heated.the consumer has sales papers claiming that the mirrors were suppose to be the heated type.
While driving and looking through windshield would get a very distorted view.windshield was very blurry, consumer have contacted dealer. Consumer stated vision distorted, makes the road appear to move, dealer is aware of problem, windshield has been replaced 3 times.
Windshield wipers completely failed when switched to high speed operation.went back in operation after pressing down on wiper arm.2nd time this failure occurred driving in blinding rain on the highway.chrysler did nothing to remedy.
Winshield wiper stopped when switch turned to high power under terrible conditions pouring rain, going through construction site, no breakdown lane.wipers were frozen in a non-parralel position, switch unresponsive and visiblity was 0.managed to get off highway and was assisted by a gentleman who pushed the wiper blades down. Then tried switch and it worked.wipers have worked since and repair dealer (crowley) was unable to duplicate failure.crowley replaced wiper arm system but they are unclear as to what happened and consequenlt if the problem is solved.lack piece of mind now about driving and needing wipers afraid they might fail again when most needed.dt

I was driving residential streets when i suddenly heard a knocking noise coming from the right front passenger wheel well when the car went over bumps in the road at about 20-25 mph. But i didn't feel any compromise in vehicle handling. I pulled over, visually inspected the tire and tried to bounce the car front to replicate the sound with no success. I decided to proceed on and entered the highway and accelerated to about 60-65 mph. After 15 minutes of highway driving the engine made a loud clanking sound and the car began vibrating. I moved off the road, to the right and stopped with a great deal of difficulty both in braking and steering. Upon stopping the vehicle made a loud single bang noise and black smoke rose up from the right front passenger tire. The vehicle could not be moved forward or backward and was towed to the dealer repair shop. The diagnosis was that a bolt fell off of a support arm that holds the right brake caliper in place. The support arm had become entangled in the rim and locked the tire. I replaced the premium rim, support arm, bolt and was able to keep the brake caliper. My brakes have not been changed, my car is 3 yrs old and has 27,000 miles and is in otherwise perfect condition.
Forced to replace all my tires once, and bring my car into ntb multiple times regarding my tires going flat despite that the car could sit in my garage all week, after speaking with ntb they said they deal with these things all the time, a chrysler pulls in and he can tell you exactly what is wrong with it. The wheel rim on the chrome ones, are corroding causing a rim leak, this causes many uninformed customers to go out and buy brand new tires when this is not necessary, it also forces customers to waste time either by having their car checked out every month b.c of these leaks or make them stop at a gas station and fill their tires up with air like i do. I please ask you all who read this to write to chrysler to explain to them this poor performance, i have read others complaints which could lead to blow outs, as far as i last checked this is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed and addressed now!this is ongoing for over a year.
The contact owns a 2002 chrysler sebring convertible. The vehicle was parked when the contact noticed that the tires were partially deflated. The contact added air to the tires but found that the tires were exhibiting a slow leak. The tires were replaced three times but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the contact was advised that the rims of the vehicle had become pitted over time and was allowing air to leak. The mechanic also advised replacing the rims.the rims were not replaced and the failure persisted. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 125,000.
Chrome on rims of 2002 sebring are flaking off. I have had 6 flat tires in the 14 months i own the car. I put air in the tires 2x week. Rims have been cleaned by a tire shop, but he said the corrosion of the wheels are making the tires leak because they do not hold a seal.each time i have the car serviced (every 3k miles) i complain that the tires leak. Dealer service dept does not find anything wrong with wheels, puts air in the tires.car has a full size spare with same rims. When i needed to fix one of the flats and put the spare tire on,the spare was also flat.. It had been returned to the trunk after being repaired 6 months earlier, but it had also been on the car, became flat, was replaced by the spare, that was now flat again.
