The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the air bag indicator turned on and off by itself while driving 20 mph. Also, the horn did not work due to the air bag indicator that was wired into the horn. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The contact called hilltop chrysler dealer and was advised that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The dealer stated that if there was a failure with the horn or air bag, the repairs would be at the contact's expense. The failure mileage was 77,000.
Air bag light comes on and stays on.back hatch will not open.
"takata recall" after starting the car the airbag light comes on when someone is sitting in the passenger seat. This has been happening since 60,000 miles. I have had my car hooked up to a machine to tell me what the light is supposed to mean and no codes come up. Each time the light appears it will make a ding sound about ever 30 seconds. I've tried checking the fuse and checking to make sure there weren't any lose wires. This is driving me crazy and makes me wonder if my passenger airbag is going to pop out at any min. This has to be dangerous so i have to warn people before they sit there and most of the time they elect to sit in the back seat and i'm up front like a personal driver.
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated while traveling 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The contact applied the brakes, but the vehicle did not slow down causing the contact to crash into a tree. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was73,000.
1.)when vehicle horn is applied it will not shut off unless steering wheel center is punched hard several times to release horn. No crash but hurt hand and wrist while punching steering wheel to shut off horn. Dealers services dept. Diagnosed horn switch circuit open and air bag springs are weak. Dealer replaced the horn pad switch and drivers side steering wheel air bag under warranty at no charge.2.)wipers will come on infrequently in right turns for no reason. Startling and highly distracting since it the wipers movement is unexpected and comes and goes without rhyme or reason. Dealers services dept. Inspected and performed diagnostic test. Dealer concluded: no codes noted at this time, could not duplicate concern.
Last year (2013) i was driving around 35mph, all panel lights flash on and off intermittently for several days.then one day it started again all panel lights came on again and all gauges dropped down, fuel tank gauge dropped to empty, etc and engine died.placed car in park and thankful the car started up again.took car to chapman dealership and no error codes appeared and they couldn't find the problem.now it is april 2014 and the same problem is starting again all panel lights are blinking on and off and i am afraid the car will shut down while driving at a higher speed.i believe this is an safety issue.
Driving down the road, all gauges go crazy, all dash warning lights come on and off, vehicle loses power and stalls, very dangerous while driving. Dealer unable to locate the problem despite numerous repairs and having the car for weeks at a time. I cannot express how unsafe this is.seems to be a problem reported by others but the dealer acts as if they have never heard of the issue before.
Intermittently all dash lights come on and all gauges begin fluctuating and the car will begin to sputter and sometimes dies and then it doesn't do it again for miles
I was in a hwy. All of a sudden, all the gauges light up and i lost power. I push the gas pedal but no acceleration. I managed to park on the side. I turnedoff the engine and restarted the car again. This happened just 3 weeks after i bought the car. It happened again one month later. It has been now one week later. I am afraid it is going to happen again. It is a very safety hazard since i always travel on a busy highway.
The car was in motion when passenger airbag off light on dash illuminated, and then all gauges on dash dropped to zero and reset several times in succession. This has occurred several times, often including a loss of acceleration or engine stalls (though engine has never shut completely off, often it is only revived with a press of the accelerator). As with other complaints on this site, the vehicle was taken a dealership on several occasions for diagnosis, but the issue was never replicated. It has occurred several times in the past years, the most common symptom being the passenger airbag light coming on (practically weekly), indicating my passenger has no airbag and could be jeopardy in the event of an accident. No one has ever found this issue, which as repeated even after battery, electrical system, and battery contacts have been replaced. The vehicle has undergone numerous repairs related to the electrical system but this hasn't stopped, and i don't have the money to replace this car. Please look into this, the lives of my family are at risk if the passenger airbag doesn't work!!
Purchased a used 2009 pt cruiser in may 2011, with 37,000 miles. Approximately 2 months and 3,000 miles later the instrument cluster on the dash started to light up like a christmas tree. First the seatbelt light came on, then the whole cluster lit up and then the seatbelt light came on and went off. The speedometer and tachometer also dropped. I thought this might be an alternator problem, but it checked out ok and i did not have the problem again for a few more months. This time it flashed on and off approximately 3 times. Today, 10/29/11, at 49,000 it happened approximately 10 times. I did not lose power or acceleration, but at one point i did feel a hiccup in the acceleration. I have heard that several people have stalled out in traffic and that the dealerships cannot explain this. I looks like there is a problem and chrysler needs to address it.
I purchased this 2009 pt cruiser in 2012 with about 45000 miles.since the odometer has reached about 80000 this problem has been recurring.while driving at any speed or even when parked and during all types of weather, all warning lights flash on and off.then all gauges go up and down dramatically.sometimes this is all that happens.however if it happens too many times in a short period of time, the car's engine just stops.it comes back but it is jerking the transmission violently.i have pulled off of the road and turned the car off, waited a couple of minutes, and then turned it back on.so far i have been lucky that it hasn't stopped at high speed and have been able to get out of traffic fairly easily.however this is very dangerous.this is our only vehicle, so we have to use it, but we are unwilling to leave town with it doing this.
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.updated 12/03/14*ljupdated 8/31/2017
Purchased vehicle a couple of years ago with about 32,000 miles, everything has been great until a couple of weeks ago. At about 41,000 vehicle has started stalling when moving, horn will not quit, starting issues and dash lights flash on and off.this is a very dangerous issue and i have read most of the prior 60 complaints dating back to 2010 and nothing has been done by chrysler . I have heard on the national news that there is finally a recall with this vehicle but my vin # is not included for some reason.
Driving at various speeds, all warning lights flash on and off, then all guages go up and down dramatically, the loss of power, car comes to stop but engine doesn't die.turn off engine, then on then same thing 2-3 more x on way home.dangerous. Due to faulty tipm made by chrysler? this has happened 20 different days in last month, also battery dead once, engine cooling fan failed twice, rear taillights blew from electrical surges 3x, twice power window wouldn't go. Taken into shop two diff. Occasions but can't repeat problem so they can't fix it.help!car was on highway several times and on 30-40 mph streets other times.
Driving vehicle on highway all warning lights on the dash light up and gauges fall the vehicle stalls. This is very dangerous when driving and could cause serious harm. I have taken it to the dealership and they have changed several items on the vehicle. They can't replicate the problem therefore the issue still exists.chrysler is no help with solving the issue.
Door will not open after car is in park, engine turned off, key is removed from ignition. I have to re-start engine to power down driver's window to reach through open window to open door from outside door latch.this has happened muliple occurrences with no obvious reasons.should there be an emergency to exit vehicle, my concern is would i be able to get out.
Driving at 55mph and all the gauges (gas, speed, tach) went to zero and fluttered up and down, the vehicle stalled.was fortunate enough to be able to pull over safely and restart the vehicle without incidence.the vehicle has repeated this on several occasions.i was able to record on my phone the instrument panel while it was acting up.think i have isolated the problem to the key and ignition.i have found if i wiggle the key when this happens it stops.this could be very dangerous since you lose power to the vehicle while driving, it happens without warning.several internet searches reveal alot of people with the same complaint.i think chrysler should so be responsible for repair of this problem, they evidently produced a product with a defect that could potentially cause loss of life or bodily damage.
I'm driving the car and all the dash lights instrument cluster lights come on & off blinking . All the hands like fuel hand and rpm start blinking up and down. It drops in speed. So i press on the gas. It comes back upbut it guns the engine and starts jerking. Every time warning light comes onall the hands start blinking again and it drops in speed but this time it cuts off! in the middle of the highway! i coast to the side and crank the car again. The dash lights and all the hand gauges blinging but this time it didn't cut off.i purchased this vehicle on 2009! if i had known that pt's were faulty, i would never have bought it. This incident has happened numerous times since. Sometimes at higher speeds sometimes at lower speeds. Sometime just sitting parked it cuts off! from the research i've done since, there have been a lot of the same complaints about the pt. It's not safe!it's not safe when you're going 70in heavy traffic and the car cuts off!
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving at various speeds, the speedometer and fuel gauge fluctuated and the engine stalled. The failures recurred numerous times. The dealer diagnosed that the camshaft, alternator, battery post, and battery needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
While driving down the road all the dash lights came on and the car started beeping, the gas gauge and mph andrpm dials go to zero. Can't pull a code and there seems to be no apparent problem that can be located by the dealer or a mechanic. This is very dangerous!
I was driving on a major highway, doing about 55mph. All of my gauges started to light up, the speedometer went from 55 to zero then up to 65, the lights flashed on and off, the car then started to slow down to about 40, would not accelerate, then eventually just shut off. I was driving on a major highway, but able to pull off to the right side lane. The wheels tightened so i could not steer, i shut the car off and left it for about 20 mins. It started again but struggles to go over 40 before it starts acting up again. I can not find the problem, no codes are recorded. I am convinced that this is a serious safety issue with pt cruisers as i have read similar problems.
Engine dies at speed, and will restart in a second or two (manual transmission).gauges go haywire.can sometimes reset condition for a while (minutes to an hour) by turning key off-on, or restarting while at speed - sometime not.has gotten much worse, car now has 185,000 miles.replaced engine pcm - no effect.replaced engine tipm - no effect.kind of scary when this happens pulling out into traffic.software design defect?
Gauges go crazy, sometimes it dies but will start up again. Wont trip codes to find the problem.
All warning lights flash while driving, car dies then restarts, very dangerous in traffic.chrysler can't find the issue, took it mechanics they can't find the issue.seems like there are 100's of issues with many different years of the pt cruiser however chrysler is ignoring and there is nothing to fix.some days this happens a lot then it will go 3 or 4 days without.
More often than not, all the lights on dash illuminate when the car is first started, sometimes flashing on and then off when driving.if driving, sometimes the car will either accelerate or slow down. Because the speedometer goes back and forth, i have no idea how fast i'm going.if i slow down when approaching a red light or to make a turn, the car has cut off.looking online, this appears to be a common problem of pt cruiser owners, yet i've never seen a recall. Diagnostics ran a few times and no reading shows up.only told, it appears to be an electrical issue.
This occurs all the time wether i am driving on residental road or on a highway going 70 mph. My car feels like it is losing power which it is. All the lights on my dash are lit up like a christmas tree and i have to pull over to the side of the road very carefully as i lose steering as well. Sometimes i can just restart the car and everything is fine, sometimes it is a few minutes and a few times it has taken a few hours. I have taken the car in to get the codes read but they tell me it is either the gas cap is loose or another issue with the fuel. I took it to my mechanic and they put it on their computer and got different readings. I was told it was a fuel vacuum problem which was corrected. I still have the issues. Now sometimes the engine jerks and pulls but i don't loose power. Mechanic is unable to find problem. Did not take to dealership after reading all the horror stories about paying dealers tons of money and still not having a working car. Also if i have more then one key on my keyring then the ignition switch doesn't work. If i limit my keyring to just my car key and house key then my car starts everytime and no cutting out while at complete stop like it has in the past. We bought the car used in july 2011 and it now has aprox. 66,000 miles.
Dash lights start flashing motor starts to stall and lose power has happen several times in past year almost causing me to wreck brake lights exploded and shattered several times.
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the speedometer fluctuated abnormally and the vehicle stalled. Once restarted, the vehicle was able to resume normally. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to various dealers for inspection, however they wereunable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 22,441.
My vehicle shuts off randomly while driving 2 mph and while on the highway going 65 mph. Very scary, do not feel safe in my own car. Fear for the safety of my family.
While driving at speed of 40 mph all lights on the console began blinking repeatedly, the tachometer and speedometer began going up and down, car began to rapidly decelerate and then died giving me just enough time to get off the side of the road before causing an accident. Turned off ignition and restarted the ignition car gave no indications of malfunction, drove home and have not drove since. If you google "pt cruiser console going crazy" you will see multiple other owners are having the same issue. This is not just a simple malfunction this is a danger to not only the owner but to others on the roadway. Chrysler should be checking into the issue, but instead after contacting them and letting them know others are experiencing the same issue, they told me "unfortunately, we are unable to provide technical assistance to diagnose the situation you have outlined in your email...if you have been working with an authorized dealership but the problem is not yet resolved, seeking a second opinion from a different dealer may be a viable option." which i take to mean take it to a dealership, get charged an outrageous amount for them to see if they know what is wrong, if they still don't know after charging you $600 then take it to another dealership which may know more about our cars than we do.<br>this is an irresponsible, slipshoddy way to run a company. If we want to have a good reputation for cars then the companies that make them have to stand by them and not try to send their customers off to other dealerships after charging them an arm and a leg and still not knowing how to fix it. They should know their cars better than say a honda dealership would. I hope other people have posted complaints so that chrysler will fix this life threatening issue because going from 40 to 0 on a busy road is dangerous!
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving 65 mph, all the warning lights illuminated, the gauge readings fluctuated, and the vehicle stalled. The failures recurred multiple times. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle had "an electronics problem." the contact did not know what parts needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
I'm driving the car and all the lights come on in the middle. All the hands like fuel hand and rpm start bobbing up and down. It drops in speed. So i press on the gas. It comes back up in speed but it guns the engine and starts jerking. Every warning light comes on again all the hands start bobbing again and it drops in speed but this time it cuts off! in the middle of the highway! i coast to the side and crank the car again. It starts doing the warning lights and the hand gauges bobbing but this time it didn't cut off. This was the first incident on 12/23/2014. I purchased this vehicle on 11/22/2014! if i had known that pt's were faulty, i would never have bought it. This incident has happened numerous times since. Sometimes at higher speeds sometimes at lower speeds. Sometime just sitting parked it cuts off! from the research i've done since, their have been alot of the same complaints about the pt. It's not safe! you know it's not safe when you're going 70 on the interstate in heavy traffic and the car cutts off! this is not good.
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving approximately 40 mph the instrument panel warning lights illuminated, began to flash and the reading on the gauges began to fluctuate. The contact stated the failure would occur erratically. The vehicle also stalled three times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice where the technicians were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
After starting and running normally for about 20 minutes, the vehicle will begin to exhibit electrical issues. The gauges will drop to zero and then slowly return, the warning lights will flash, and the warning chime will sound repeatedly. It seems like when this happens the engine goes through a start cycle. Most of the time, this problem is otherwise asymptomatic, but occasionally it results in sudden power loss to the engine. It does not seem to matter if the vehicle is moving or not; it happens if the vehicle is stopped, moving slowly, moving quickly, etc. The engine has lost power more than once at a critical moment (turning left, clearing an intersection) and multiple times in moving traffic.
Purchased automobile 12/07/2010...repairs conducted on 1/21/11(1) replacement drivers (outer) l paneldriver seat switch bezel broken*same exists panel continually "breaks" down after sitting on drivers seat(2) power lock systeml/r door would not lock/or/unlock* additional electrical problems with "late" automatic locking of automobile doorson 11/14/11during oil-change (mechanic) discovered(1) broken motor mounts (upper/lower) rf engine (2) shock leaking...mechanic stated in 20 plus yrs of work as a mechanic he has "replaced" manypt cruiser-broken motor mounts...myself, i documented all above in an email to chrysler 11/14/2011. Suggesting "lemon" automobile & requested total compensation or (new automobile) replacement free of charge.
Sporadic instrument cluster powers on and off illuminating all lights. When condition occurs it is vastly distracting unable to determine vehicle speed accurately. When the issue is present the engine will typically shut off. This seems like an incredibly bad condition to allow in a vehicle and contacting chrysler led to no solution for resolving. Internet search suggests this is not a one off situation and exists across several model years. Chrysler does have a recall notice "01v288000" for model year 2001 which appears to be very similar in nature. Due to the highly distracting nature of this condition and frequency of similar owner reports it seems particularly egregious that a recall notice does not exist.
Driving in a snow storm when all dash lights came on - and gauges dropped.repeatedly went off and on. Car eventually stalled.this happened repeatedly in spite of having many things replaced (battery alternator and ignition)when the weather warmed the problem seemed to be resolved but during thefirst snow this winter, it happened again.now this occurs frequently.seldom occurs before 20 minutes of driving.randomly occurs making detection nearly impossible.no definitive answers from computer testing.judging from other complaints, this appears to be a common problem.
While running at 45 mph all the warning lights came on, the gauges went to zero, and the motor started stumbling. Trying to nurse it home, i stopped at a red light where the previous things happened again but also the motor completely shut off. This left me stopped in the middle of a busy 4 lane highway. Engine finally restarted where i drove it home. This is the 3rd time this has happened and i see where online this has been complained about over and over. I can not afford to throw thousands of dollars at it and chrysler doesn't care.
I purchased the vehicle in december of 2016. The odometer reading was 74,000 miles at that time.it functioned without problems until march 2018.the car was driven about 2 miles and then was parked for about 5 hours.i started the car and drove about 2 blocks at about 25 mph when all the dashboard lights came on, the gas gauge went to empty and i felt a loss of power.it recovered after a few seconds.it happened again about 1 minute later.i coasted to a stop sign and turned off the engine.i turned it back on about 30 seconds later and drove on.i turned onto a busy street and after driving a few blocks in traffic the power loss happened again. It recovered on its own after about 5 seconds. I got off the busy s street and onto a side street.it happened again after driving a few blocks and did not recover.i coasted into a parking spot and turned off the ignition.after about 5 minutes i started the car and drove about 1.5 miles to my house without incident.the car spent several weeks in a reputable local repair shop.they could not replicate the problem, so could not diagnose.i then drove the car for about 2 months without incident.it has started doing it again.i do not believe i can safely drive it on a busy street or a freeway.
While traveling down the qew highway in ontario, the instrument panel on mypt 2009 cruiser started blinking on and off, the gauges went wild with up and down full-range swings, then blinking on and off on and off; i thought the seatbelt may be the problem since the fasten seatbelt indicator remained "on."it happened again a second time right away (less than 2 minutes)accompanied by loss of engine power. I heard sputtering, and then the engine died, and i had to guide it to a resting spot on the side of the road without power steering;not fun.i was in near hamilton, ontario, and managed to get off the highway safely.i inspected under the hood and nothing seemed out of the ordinary at all.engine restarted right away, and i was able to make it back to e. Amherst ny. This is totally unsafe!i was concerned about getting my family home safely.and there is no way to know what is wrong with the vehicle!i cannot trust my car and that stinks!i had same type of problem with a grand caravan (1994?) and the mechanics could never locate the problem.makes me wonder about chrysler.
This is the 2nd pt cruiser that i have owned.the first one was great!but...this one!!ongoing problems since we have owned the car!!!!seat belt wouldn't unlockcouldn't get out of car. I was locked in.someone had to open door from outside.lights always flickering.loss power.acts up while driving.finally got so bad that the car would just stall out.took to dealership and was told they couldn't find anything wrong.they said...and i quote"remember we didn't do anything." why would they say that? the latest... Lights flickering, radio going on and offstopped at a store. When i came couldn't unlock the car with my remote.had to use key to get in, alarm went off, had to jump in and start car to turn alarm off.pulled out into traffic and the car quit.completely stalled out.turned everything off, put in park and it started up but i parked it at a friends that lived one block away.was afraid to drive it.3 hours later went to pick car up and nothing worked.no lights no juiceno clickno nothinggot it jumped started.went straight to advanced auto because it was late.alternator okbattery oki just want to get rid of it but don't want someone else stuck with this lemon what do i do?????
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, all of the gauges and warning lamps illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 47,000.
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser.the contact stated that while driving various speeds the instrument panel malfunctioned. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who could not duplicate the failure.the manufacturer wasnotified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 57,639.
Travelling at about 60 mph on the freeway, suddenly i noticed all the warning lights on the instrument panel coming on at once, for about 2 or 3 seconds, then going off again.i also noticed the fuel gauge and tachometer needles dancing around at the same time, before stabilizing. This happened several times within approximately 40 minutes of driving.i was afraid that the engine could stall but luckily the motor kept running without any indication of stalling.i have read several other posts and descriptions of people with identical problems and some of them described the engine stalling.many of these state that dealerships are unable to find the problem and that chrysler has not publicly acknowledged it.i find this difficult to believe as this has the potential of a major lawsuit waiting to happen as soon as someone gets hurt as a result.there are just too many of these descriptions to believe that this issue has not been identified.
While driving the dash lights flash and the gauges go up and down, the car dies. I put the car in park and it starts right up. This problem is intermittent and the dealer is unable to duplicate the problem. No codes are stored. This has happened to me several times, and most of them end with me having to pull over to the side of the road, turn the car off & back on.twice it has happened to me while on a major highway...the car shuts off & i'm literally coasting on a major highway trying to get over for safety.this is dangerous and all the repair shop tells me is they can't fix it and don't know what causes it.
2009 pt cruiser purchased 10/2010 from rental fleet. Had 40,000 miles then, has 45,000 now. While driving (mph not relevant), the instrument panel warning lights come on and go off within seconds. Sometimes it's just the driver seat belt light, sometimes it's the entire cluster. The gauge needles fall to zero then go back to current reading. Failure occurred sporadically since 10/2010, but issue never impaired the performance until 08/09/2011 when the vehicle shut down. Got it to curb (without getting hit from behind), turned off key, waited a few seconds, restarted, and has not occurred since. Took it to mechanic 08/13/2011; could not duplicate failure. Called chrysler dealership, described issue; they want to put on computer which my mechanic just did. No repairs made. From what i've been reading online of similar electrical problems, i'm fearful chrysler dealership service departments cannot resolve.
All the lights on the dash light up, dials start dropping, engine goes quiet and car starts coasting. Sometimes engine shuts off completely then turns on after a second or two; other times have to put the car in park, turn the ignition off and back on again- starts up normally. Has died at very low (sub 5mph) and very high (about 60mph) speeds; have blocked roads and intersections.
While driving on the interstate, my car's dash board started going haywire. All gauges (except fuel and temperature) would drop down to zero for a second, and then go right back up to where they should be. The car never actually stalled, but acted a couple times like it might. I gave it a little extra gas and it kept running. This continued for the entire trip on the interstate. (approximately 100 miles.)
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, all of the lights on the instrument panel flickered followed by the vehicle completely stalling. The vehicle was diagnosed by two different dealers, who both stated that they could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 25,500. The current mileage was 66,000.
After driving for about 5 minutes and going about 35 mph the lights on the instrument panel went on and all the gauges went to zero.i didn't totally lost power but slowed down and the gauges popped back and the instrument lights came back on.it has continued to run ok for the last 3 days.took it to the dealer and was told nothing could be done unless they could duplicate the problem.this exact same thing occurred on september 8, 2013 at a mileage of about 39,100.the car has run ok since up to this latest incident on june 1, 2014.
While driving all the warning light come on engine stalls even at freeway speeds. Car has to stopped, key turned off and restarted and the errors clear. It has done since it was new.. It has been researched by dealer while in for service.never fixed it is still doing it..
While driving on the highway, all the gauges on the dashboard light up, car loses power.sometimes it will restart but sometimes i will have to pull over to the side of the road.i have had the battery replaced and wires checked.i am afraid to drive for fear of getting into an accident since the car just stops without warning.this is so unsafe and seems to be a common issue for this car.
I've had my pt cruiser for atleast 3 years now. Today as i was driving all the lights started going on and off on the dash board and was acting as if it were going to stall out. However , every time i hit the gas the mph gauge would go up. However my gauges on my dash board had stopped working until i'd hit the gas petal again. It did this for at least a few minutes i was on a busy road when it happened and was not able to pull off the road. I've been hearing a lot of rumors going on about pt cruisers losing power and locking up on people and bad things happening i think chrysler needs to get on the ball and fix these issues with their vehicles since we are only the ones that buy them under faith of safety. I had this happen one other time when i first got it but i didn't think nothing of it. The issue seems to be happening more and more often. It's not even at 100,000 miles yet and i am having this many issues. This pt cruiser needs to be recalled! me or my children best not get hurt it this thing due to chrysler's neglect on this issue. I've seen many people complain about this issue and nothing being done. Who has to die before it's resolved?!?i would've had pictures but the lights turned off and it went back to normal before i was able to take a snap shot or video of it.because if i lose power again and it malfunctions and me or my kids get hurt when chrysler has been notified and they don't do anything there will be a law suit. If i had known this issue would occur i would have never bought it, infact i'm still paying on it for another 2 yrs.
While driving to work the gauges all dip to zero then all the dash lights come like when the engine is first started. If the gauge dip is short then the engine continues to run. Lately (since jan) the gauges have staying in the zero position longer and the engine loses power. Sometimes the engine will pick back up sometimes not. If it doesn't then i have putthe car in neutral and it will restart. This happens several times in succession and sometimes just every once in a while but almost always 4 or 5 times in 45 miles. Once the car has had a chance to sit during the day i don't have the problem on the way home. It seems to have this issue the most on days when we have a heavy dew. Rain does not seem to be a problem. I think moisture is being pulled in during the cool down and causing this issue. I just don't know where. The dealer (after 4 days) can't seem to duplicate the problem. My biggest fear is if this should happen when pulling out in traffic or in a corner as i lose power steering.
3 times in 3 yrs. I've found water in my driver-side rear tail-light????? i've had to unscrew it and drain the water out and replace my bulb..
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle exhibited a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the front driver and passenger side wheel bearings and hubs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the technician verified that the wheel bearing and hubs were defective once again. In addition, the contact stated that she had to replace the battery on three different occasions within a very small time frame. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.
2009 pt cruiser has a electrical problem that no one has been able to slove.while driving car all dashlights flashes off and on gauges dance up and down car looses power and shuts down while driving.almost involved in many accidents due to this problem.
While driving the car will just stop, the gauges will flicker on and off and the gas gauge will drop to empty. After it shuts off, it will start back up as if nothing happened. You might be okay for a few days or months before it happens again. We have had the car back in with the dealer at least 5 times and they can't seem to duplicate the issue. Even after keeping the car for over a month or more. We then caught the gauges going crazy and recorded it for the dealer. They couldn't find a code for the issue. We had the battery replaced and it didn't fix the issue. Now they think it might be the ignition switch. We are having that replaced now. This same issue is affecting many 2009 pt cruiser owners and chrsyler has not stepped up to address the problem. It is extremely dangerous to be driving a car that just comes to a complete stop whether you are on the highway or a residential street. My hope is that there is not a loss of life or limb before something is done.
While driving all dash lights going crazy, car engine shut down, driving approx. 55 miles per hour. This has happened approximately 3 times. Took to chrysler dealership. Unable to replicate the problem. I was directly in front of 18 wheeler when engine just shut down.
I just purchased this vehicle and had it for less then 3 weeks. I drove it a total of 5 times. When i was driving to work on a major highway, the car started to act up. The speedometer went from 55 to zero then back up to 80, i lost the ability to steer and accelerate, all of the lights came onthe dash board, the car fuel gauges went up and down, and finally the car stalled. I was on a major highway which was a very scary. No codes were recorded for a mechanic to find out the problem. The problem is not fixed, and seems to be a problem with several pt cruisers from what i have researched. I am working with the dealer attempting for a refund, as i feel my safety and the safety of others are at risk.
While driving car all dashlights flashes off and on gauges dance up and down car looses power and shuts down while driving.
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. When the contact entered the vehicle, the driver's seat switch bezelfractured and resulted in exposed wiring. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. Prior to the failure, the vehicle experienced the same failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the component fractured and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving various speeds, the engine stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact stated the failure occurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the timing sensor failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
My vehicle shuts off randomly while driving 2 mph and while on the highway going 65 mph. Very scary, do not feel safe in my own car. Fear for the safety of my family.
While driving all the warning light come on engine stalls even at freeway speeds. Car has to stopped, key turned off and restarted and the errors clear. It has done since it was new.. It has been researched by dealer while in for service.never fixed it is still doing it..
While driving all dash lights going crazy, car engine shut down, driving approx. 55 miles per hour. This has happened approximately 3 times. Took to chrysler dealership. Unable to replicate the problem. I was directly in front of 18 wheeler when engine just shut down.
While driving down the road all the dash lights came on and the car started beeping, the gas gauge and mph andrpm dials go to zero. Can't pull a code and there seems to be no apparent problem that can be located by the dealer or a mechanic. This is very dangerous!
Engine leaking oil
As stated in a previous complaint.the gauges start lighting up and the vehicle shuts off, i have found that if you wiggle the key it can stop what is happening.it is very dangerous because the vehicle loses all power when this happens and when traveling on the highway or trying to pass this could cause serious injury.i received notification that this item has been addressed by your office for other chrysler and dodge vehicles but the recall did not include the pt cruiser.nhtsa campaign id number: 14v373 sounds identical to what my vehicle is doing.i also have video that shows what the vehicle is doing.please advise if the pt cruiser is going to be included in this recall and if not and i pay to have the ignition switch replace will i be refunded in the event that the pta cruiser is included in the recall.this is a very costly repair. In addition i would like to address the horn on my vehicle.it has been repaired previously by the chrysler dealer but does not work properly.when depressed it sticks or doesn't work at all without alot of force.thank you for your time and consideration.

Lights started flashing & car stopped on more then 1 occasion
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser.the contact was driving 60 mph when the vehicle stalled three times without warning.the contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test.the contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 61,000.
I hope other people have posted complaints so that chrysler will fix this life threatening issue because going from 40 to 0 on a busy road is dangerous!
I brought the car on 3/25/14 from a toyota dealer ship. Complain about a knocking noise coming from the engine at the time of test drive. Toyota promise me it would be fixed pick the car drove it a couple of days and notice the control panel lights started going on and off along with the car shutting down. Took it back to the dealer for service nothing was found. I let my daughter drive the car and while on the fwy at 65mph the lights on the control panel starting going on and off they car shut off on her. Lucky she was able to guide the car over to the emergency lane avoiding from getting hit. I was in the hospital for about 4 months so car really wasn't driven that much. But i have this car less than a year with a protection plan and need transmission and engine work the involved getting solenoid pack, bracket-torque reaction,t-stat, oil switch, gasket, and camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor as of 2/10/2015. Now 2 days later the check engine light comes back on take it back to the dealer and was told i need a cooling fan module. Which is not covered under my protect plan and would have to pay almost 700.00 dollar. I have this car less than a year and have been having so many problems and have almost gotten killed behind it cutting on and off on the highway. I have research this car and everyone has had the same complaint.

3 times in 3 yrs. I've found water in my driver-side rear tail-light????? i've had to unscrew it and drain the water out and replace my bulb..
Driving along at any speed the dashboard lights flicker from bright to dull.
My rightrear tail keeps filling up with water which could cause a brake light malfunction, or an accident because it short out the bulb.i have the vehicle in the shop now repairing the rear latch that quit working could that be related?
Brake lights continually burning out/blowing up. Have to replace them every few months. Put in correct replacement bulbs, don't know why they keep burning out. When i go to replace them there is shattered glass like they blew up.

Problems withhard clutch which makes it difficult to drive and the clockspring which both are known issues with this type of vehicle.
My vehicle shuts off randomly while driving 2 mph and while on the highway going 65 mph. Very scary, do not feel safe in my own car. Fear for the safety of my family.
2009 pt cruiser with 53,000 miles was informed by dealer that hydraulic clutch assembly is not releasing causing hard shifting.
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that when the clutch was engaged, the gear selector was extremely difficult to shift in and out of gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the clutch assembly would need to be replaced. The faulty clutch was not covered under the service warranty and the vehicle was repaired at the owner's expense. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The failure mileage was 42,000.
The passenger seat belt is torn. The stitching unraveled from the belt part which goes across the chest. The metal piece is in the fastener, but no belt is attached to it. It is dangerous for the passenger and unlawful in the state of mississippi.
The contact stated that the rear seat belts were fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 89,426.
Front control arm bushings need to be replaced.car has only 39,000 miles on it.i purchased this vehicle used as a rental return with only 389 miles on it.seems that the bushings shouldn't be going out with less than 40,000 miles on a vehicle.vehicle has had all required maintenance and new tires - i baby this car.also, panel with controls on left side of drivers seat has detached.i have tried to reattach many times with no success.i will need to bring to the dealership to fix.unfortunately both of these items happened just after my 36/36 warranty was up and is not covered by my lifetime powertrain warranty.have been quoted nearly $1000 to fix both.
For 2009 pt cruiseri called the chrysler store requiring about recalls on the side plastic piece were your automatic seat adjustments are. They explained to me that there has been over thousandsof cars has come in to get that fixed and is dangerous due to while your driving you seat will move cause the plastic will readjust you if you go over a bump or stopping. Its costing over 300 dollars to fix something that should be a recall item due to dangerous driving hazards. If the seat moves even more it can cause an accident or even worse death.*ln
The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while the brake was depressed the brake pedal extended to the floor. He experienced the failure numerous times. The dealer replaced the brake pads and rotors four times. The brakes and rotors were replaced on december 21, 2010. The contact had not driven the vehicle since it was repaired. The manufacturer filedtwo reports #20028521, #19428228, and advised them that they could no longer assist him. The failure mileage was 3,806, and the current mileage was 11,407. Updated 02/09/11*ljthe consumer stated the vehicle has been recalled. Updated 03/09/11
Purchased vehicle new in march 2009. In august 2012 had to have both front lower control arm bushings replaced - with only 3 years and 9,000 miles. Later learned son had to have same repair on used 2008 p/t he had bought. In october 2015, only 3 years and 9,000 miles more, had to have the same repair done again.

Control arm bushings are bad. Now the control arm hits the subframe while driving. The car wobbles at all speeds and pulls to the right, only 48,000 miles. Very disappointing.*ln
Tpms failures. 3 out of have failed so far. The first occured when i filled the the tire with air.the valve stem had broken off . The second and third have appeared before doing front brakes this past weekend. Both valve stems are about to fail.they have multiple cracks and need replacing.
Failure of aluminum valve stems on tpms sensors resulting in rapid loss of tire pressure. Can result from simple service to add air to tires or during highway use resulting in loss of control similar to a blowout.
While driving the car on a highway at approximately 50 mph the driver side rear window shattered. Most of the glass went inside the car. No rock or other object was found that might have caused the failure.
The valve stems corrode & have to be replaced ??????? why should i as the consumer need to replace because somebody came up with the idea of "new improved " stems ??????not only is this an inconvience, but also a great expense !!!!!! people who live a limited income should not have to worry about this... I had the car 1 year & had to "rebuild" my stems because i could not afford the price of new ones .now i am having problems again ??? this is not fair. I never had this problem with my other cruiser, how can you verify this as not being a problem ???
Takata recalli bought a 2009 pt cruiser from imperial chrysler in mendon, ma in august 2013.immediately, it started to act up-this was sept 2013. During driving the dash lights would suddenly go on, the gauges would go up & down, and then it would stall.i would pull off the road and it would start right up, however, this could occur 3-4 more times during that day, or it wouldn't happen for a couple weeks.it was very inconsistent and extremely dangerous to drive.when imperial chrysler had it in september 2013, they did a few different things that were not working when i bought the car, unrelated to the issue described above.they stated that they weren't experiencing the issue that i was having and couldn't find anything wrong with the car.they advised that i should leave the car for a week so they could determine what was really happening. After the car seemed to be ok until the summer of 2016 when i was driving on route 128 and the dash lights started flashing, gauges up and down and the car stalled.thankfully i was able to pull over into the breakdown lane, where i was able to re-start the car and move on.this was a very scary position to be placed in, being on a major highway with cars racing by.as a result, i have been extremely uncomfortable driving anywhere but locally. During the nearly 4 years i have owned this car, i have put on just under $16,000 miles due to these unresolved issues.i purchased the car with just over $68,000 miles on it.as you can see, i have had no luck with the chrysler-trained experts at imperial chrysler.i have taken it to several local mechanics who have theories on what the problem could be.however, they cannot guarantee a solution to the problem.
I have a 2009 pt cruiser, i have on 2 separate occasions, engaged the cruise control, to find that it has surged and caused the car to speed up with out warning. I thought it was me until it happened again. I have not used it since.it did not want to disengage and i had to hit the brakes really hard and hold them down to get the car to release the cruise control feature.contacted dealer to ask if anyone else was having problems, was told i must be driving a toyota? did not find that humorous, this is a serious issue and needs to be dealt with. I do see that they had an issue in the 2001 models for something similar to what i am reporting.

Intermittently all dash lights come on and all gauges begin fluctuating and the car will begin to sputter and sometimes dies and then it doesn't do it again for miles
2009 chrysler pt cruiser. Consumer states unintended acceleration *tgwthe consumer stated when the cruise control was activated, the vehicle would surpass the set speed, by 2-3 mph. The consumer stated he had an accident when he went around a curve with the cruise control activated when suddenly the vehicle accelerated out of control and left the road way. The consumer attempted to regain control of the vehicle, but consequently the vehicle rolled over twice and landed upside down. The vehicle was totaled.

The contact owns a 2009 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated while sitting idle, the vehicle abnormally accelerated. The contact crashed into the rear of a preceding vehicle. He then attempted to shift the vehicle into neutral to stop the unintended acceleration but instead, the vehicle reversed and crashed into the vehicle behind his. The vehicle was inspected at an authorized dealer but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. On a separate occasion, while sitting idle at a stop sign, the vehicle independently accelerated. He attempted to depress the brakes but to no avail. The contact then shifted into neutral and applied the brakes. He was able to stop the vehicle. The contact previously encountered unintended acceleration and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The dealer was unable to duplicate or provide a reason for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 7,800 and the current mileage was approximately 8,000.
The windshield on this vehicle cracked for no apparent reason. The crack started at the bottom, just left of center. The crack ran up the windshield for about 3 inches, then turned 90 degrees to the right. Over the course of the next few weeks, the crack ran all the way to the right a-pillar. It bears mentioning that the crack started while the vehicle was in my driveway. The car hadn't even been started yet.i've seen many mentions on-line of pt cruiser's with problems identical to mine, and my neighbor's pt also has this same crack. When i took it to the chrysler dealer, they denied any knowledge of an issue with pt windshields, and denied my repair request under warranty, even though the vehicle was still covered by chrysler's 36/36 bumper-to-bumper warranty. When i called chrysler customer care, they agreed, after a great deal of wrangling, to fix my windshield if i paid a $100.00 deductible. I did, reluctantly, because here in texas, a vehicle will not pass a safety inspection with a cracked windshield. It's obvious that chrysler has an ongoing safety issue with the pt cruiser windshields. It also seems obvious that chrysler has their head buried in the sand. Chrysler needs to be forced to deal with the pt cruiser windshield issue in a proper manner, before it causes injury or worse.
Wheel sensor /air valve blew out of wheel itself on the interstate 79 @ 70 mph ; obviously lost all air suddenly ; have heard of this problem from another pt cruise owner ; these are factory installed wheel sensor/air valves................no damage stopped with 10 seconds. I see reports here as far back as 2011 ; shown under tires.
A follow-up to complaint 11001939 ; where the wheel sensor/valve blew out of the rim ; took the tire and rim to "costco tire" where i had bought the tires ; the chrysler aluminum sensor was still inside the tire ; they said the aluminum was so corroded ; they could not repair it ; now as an engineer in the metals industry ; you n e v e r ; put aluminum and steel parts together because just them touching each other ; causes a galvanic reaction which does exactly what happened here...............corrosion and separation. Any time the two metal touch you get this reaction; to put these together you surround the metal with a sleeve called a "jock" kit to keep the separate; obviously to prevent this.even though i stopped the vehihcle as soon as my sensor light came on i also destroyed the sidewall of the tire (bfgoodrich advantage)........the tire manager asked how i kept the vehicle from crashing; i told him i was an experienced race car driver and didn't panic.now ; all chrysler pt cruiser to my and costco's tire manager have seen have the same set-up for wheel sensors in all their models ; i own 2 of them ; love them ; but this has happened before and with water etc. Added to the facts, i'm sure their are others' with the same problem and maybe not the experience to not make this a "rollover" or "other lane swerve " situation.i live in pa. But this vehicle is never driven the winter thru salts for snow ; really a concern in my mind how these are in steel rims.............probably does not effect the aluminum optional wheels they offered.thanks
Tpms failures. 3 out of have failed so far. The first occured when i filled the the tire with air.the valve stem had broken off . The second and third have appeared before doing front brakes this past weekend. Both valve stems are about to fail.they have multiple cracks and need replacing.
The contact owns2009 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that a loud noise emitted outside of the vehicle. The contact maneuvered to the side of the roadway and noticed that the tire pressure sensor was defective, causing the rear driver's side tire to deflate. The spare tire was installed and the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the tire pressure sensor was replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 29,997.
