The air bag light comes on and chimes all the time. No one even has to be sitting in the seat. Goes off all the time. The air bag will not work if it is in a crash. This should be recalled and fixed

Passenger seat airbag light remains off when unoccupied, goes on and chimes when someone is seated. Horn sticks.overheats when idled short periods (traffic lights, etc.)blows cold air when at idle, only provides heat when rolling. All these problems are common to this vehicle.

A car turned from left turn lane in front of me, about two ft. I hit it at slight angle on the drivers side. My car is totaled . Driver side air bag did not deploy.

On april 8th, this year, i was in an auto accident in my 2008 chrysler pt cruiser and broke my back; there is a chance i may not be able to work as a hospital inpatient nurse ever again because i have to be able to lift 100 pounds.my6 air bags did not deploy and my seat belt malfunctioned (it lengthened during the flipping of the car) allowing my body to turn around, facing the rear, and crushed my spine against the steering wheel.i had just finished a 12-hr night shift at the hospital, was just one mile from home, swerved to the shoulder to avoid a rabbit. The tires slipped off the shoulder into the grass (the speed limit was 50mph & i usually drive a little under), i was very tired & over-corrected which caused the car to roll sideways 4 times and then hit two trees. It was about 8am and no one found me for almost 1/2 hr.i was conscious the entire time.i fractured one vertebra (t11) which was surgically fused with my t10 and t12 vertebrae, as well as the 3 vertebrae repaired with titanium rods and screws, and packed with donor bone. I'm blessed it was not worse.i was told that it was a miracle that i survived. I am also very interested in forcing chrysler to do a recall on the 2008 p t cruisers.if i'd had my children or grandchildren in my car, most likely one of them would have died.i see enough people dieevery day at the hospital so i don't want any child, etc., to die if the same thing happens in their pt cruisers.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser.the contact stated that the driver's side door and front end of the contact's vehicle was crashed into by another vehicle.the driver's side air bag failed to deploy.there were no injuries, but the vehicle was destroyed.a police report was filed.the speed of both vehicles was unknown.the failure mileage was 99,833.jcc

Passenger sat in seat driving less then mile airbag light comes on once passenger gets out seat light goes off.

Passenger airbag lite and sensor goes off with no one sitting in seat and if someone is in seat it goes off. It seams as if there is a short in a wire. Others i have read after have had this same problem.

Air bag warning light and chime activated.indicates no airbag deployment and possibly no srs capability.per lithia dodge chrysler jeep #4, "witech test codes set, b1b57, b1b55, b1b56, b1b54"."replace pass side front seat belt receiver (buckle), on national backorder no eta at this time".problem, reduced passenger safety, continues chiming at approximately 60 second intervals and bright red warning light; no fix available.

Vehicle was moving at approximately 30 mph when a vehicle was hit crossed into my lanes and i hit the vehicle head on, police report was filed. Injuries to knee, chest and lap from belt. Airbags did not deploy.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. While the vehicle was parked, the air bags deployed when the vehicle was started. The air bag warning indicator illuminated before the deployment. The failure mileage was 15,770.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the air bag light remained illuminated and there was an abnormal noise. The dealer was notified of the failure, but the contact was undecided upon authorizing the dealer to inspect and diagnose the failure. The contact was to check with the manufacturer for a repair solution. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

Airbags light and ding sound that doesn't go off for driver and passenger. There's no protection for either side.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruise. The contact stated that when the horn was engaged, it remained activated and would independently disengage until much later. The dealer replaced the air bag horn assembly however the failure was not corrected. The failure was recurring. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 52,000.

I had stopped at a signal light and was hit in an front /head on crash there was no air bag deployment - thecar was deemed as a total lost per my insurance the damage was front leftfinder - hood = bumper - grill left suspension parts radiator oil cooler and frame i feel that if the car is going to sustain that much damage the car would have deployed the air bags. I have seen cars that the airbags deployed when hit hard enough to scuff the front bumperalso the horn would like to stick when depressed some time the horn would sound some time the horn would not make any sound till you beat the darn thing.

The contact owned a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact was involved in a head on collision with another vehicle. A police report was filed. The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the back, arm, and neck that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a impound lot where it was deemed destroyed. -airbags lights are always on. -at times turning car off the fan will remain on till power drained. -while driving, all the lights on dash will turn on and car will shut down. This has happened countless times. After awhile the car will turn back on and be perfectly normal again to drive until this reoccurs.

The contact owned a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, another vehicle at a high rate of speed switched lanes and crashed into the driver side of the contact's vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed into a tree. The air bags did not deploy. The contact mentioned that the windows shattered, the front passenger side doors were jammed, and the driver had to be removed from the vehicle by the fire department. The passenger seated in the rear was able to exit the vehicle. The driver sustained head injuries and back pains and the child passenger sustained whiplash and minor bruises. Both the driver and the passenger required medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

When passenger is seated in front passenger seat . Airbag light turns on and chimes until passenger exits vehical.

The airbag sign for passenger 2 turns on after a while of driving, speeding problem when when trying to accelerate the car takes forever to speed up

I think their is a serious safety concern on the 2008 chrysler pt cruiser.the air bag off light on the dash is supposed to be illuminated when less than 30 lbs is in the seat.the airbag light off light never comes on.the airbag problem light however does come on and dings constantly.i have no idea if the passenger air bag is even working.i have seen this problem all over the internet and i think it is common.i do not think this should be overlooked.

At 10:15am on thursday, 8/14/2014, the driver side front airbag spontaneously deployed while i was traveling <5mph pulling into a parking space. The vehicle has never been in any kind of accident nor has sustained any other damage, including from potholes (my family took original delivery of the vehicle in 2008). The local chrysler dealership declined to look at the vehicle, and instead provided a phone number for the chrysler customer assistance center (ccac). Thirty minutes later, the passenger side front airbag spontaneously deployed while i was traveling 35mph. Fortunately, i was able to maintain control of the vehicle and arrived home safely moments later. I immediately contacted the ccac; the representative forwarded my information to chrysler's special investigations unit for further inquiry. The vehicle was inspected on tuesday, 8/19/2014, at a chrysler dealership by a third-party contracted by chrysler. The investigator carefully documented the vehicle's condition, including putting it up on a lift, and took 40-50 images. Particular attention was paid to the airbag control module. The inspector found no damage and informed me it has been "beautifully maintained." i received a letter dated 8/25/2014 from chrysler stating, "we have had the opportunity to review the inspection report and must inform you that we are not led to believe that the incident was due to manufacturing responsibility." my request for a copy of the inspection report was denied in a letter dated 9/12/14, claiming the report is "confidential" and "proprietary." my second request to view the report was denied in a letter dated 10/13/14; i mailed a third request 11/10/14. The body shop manager of the chrysler dealership and my insurance carrier both concur this was most likely due to manufacturing defect. While chrysler stonewalls me, i am forced to drive a vehicle lacking functional airbags.

Takata recall the car was in motion on the highway. An object was struck in the road and the airbag deployed only on the driver side of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser touring. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph through fog, he crashed into the rear of an 18-wheeler. Upon impact the air bag underneath the dashboard deployed and fractured his leg. The steering wheel air bag also deployed and fractured his nose along with other facial injuries sustained. The police were called and a report was filed. The driver was transported to the hospital via ambulance with serious injuries. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was pending an investigation. The failure and current mileages were approximately 79,000. The vin was unavailable.

This has happened about 3-4 times while driving and at starting the car..lights start flashing and bells ring on the dash indicating trouble with the steering control, seat belts, oil, etc...the engine has not died yet, but now that i have read that this appears to be a happening to a lot of cars i am leary of taking the car a long distance. I have not made a complaint to the dealer , but intend to do so this week..my car only has 42,000 miles.

-airbags lights are always on. -at times turning car off the fan will remain on till power drained. -while driving, all the lights on dash will turn on and car will shut down. This has happened countless times. After awhile the car will turn back on and be perfectly normal again to drive until this reoccurs.

There are a few issues with my car and the local dealer says they may be related.stalling while driving: this has happened twice within 2-3 months. First time i was on a highway off ramp slowing to stop. Not sure of my speed, but i noticed it stalled as i was almost to the light.i stopped and the car started up fine. The second time was 1-2 months later in jan. 2017.i was driving in town about 30 mph and shifted (automatic) from 3rd to drive. I pushed the gas to speed up and realized the car had stalled. Once again it started back up just fine. Malfunctioning instrument cluster: this has been an intermittent problem since probably 2011 or 2012. The dials on the gauges will swing back and forth wildly. Dash light will flash on and off. Sometimes the cluster makes a popping sound like it is popping popcorn inside there. Trouble starting: for a few years now (possibly matching the timing of the cluster problem) it can take 2-3 tries to start the car.this is intermittent. I don't hear a sound that it is struggling to start, it just does nothing when i turn the key.horn malfunctioning: this has only happened a few times, but when i go to give a quick honk, it sticks and sounds like i'm giving someone a loooong honk.the stalling while driving is obviously a safety risk.the local dealer said i should get the instrument cluster replaced with a refurbished one because it could be causing the stalling. "electrical problems can cause strange things to happen" i was told. I bought my car brand new and have taken very good care of it.other than for tires, i only take it to the chrysler dealer. It has only 54,000 miles. It is a great car, until now. I can no longer drive my toddler son in it for fear of an accident. I spent $700 on maintenance & repairs a month ago and now the dealer wants me to spend about $550 on something that may take care of the stalling.

While driving on a major interstate, and crossing a bridge across the columbia river with no shoulder, the cars electrical system went haywire.all the gauges started to cut in and out (gas, speed and rpm all the dash lights came on), and then the car stalled and died.there was an 18 wheeler directly behind me and he saw my flashers and i was frantically honking my horn because i thought i was about to die. He was able to get out of the way, but there was another 18 wheeler directly behind him and that one nearly hit us.this would have easily killed me and my family ( a beautiful 16 month old daughter and a beautiful wife who is a newly graduated dvm.miraculously the car restarted during my panic, and i was able to drive off.i immediately took the car to the dealership , and told them of the problem.they ran exhaustive tests and could not find anything wrong, and said they have never heard of the problem either, which is odd because i did a little research on the internet and found others have had this problem as well: http://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/tech-performance-forum/33457-flashing-icons-gauges-go-up-down-then-car-dies.htmlthen i found this site and found even more problems that are earily similar.this car is not safe!please initiate an investigation!!!!

I bought this pt cruiser from a local dealer, the first time it turned off i was at a stop sign and thought it just stalled from not being warmed up. About a week later i was driving down a local road doing 50 miles per hour when i bumped the key in the ignition with my knee. The car turned off. Luckily it was a straight road with no traffic and i was able to guide the car to a stop then restart it.this has happened a few times more, all with bumping my knee against the ignition key. It instantly turns the car off.with the gm recall in the news i wasn't paying attention since i don't have a gm car but decided to look when i heard it involved the ignition turning the car off. I saw that it is similar yet nothing being done about my ignition so i am filing this complaint. I have notified chrysler of this problem i am experiencing. I know that many parts are used across brands and these parts may be the same. I am worried i may bump my knee on a windy road with my children in the car and not be able to recover stability and steering if it turns off. Please check into this immediately!!

My infant nephews and my niece were in car seats in the back, i have had the vehicle for 2 months. I have noticed the car locking itself while i drive, but this time it locked itself and would not respond to the clicker (remote) or the key to unlock until my nephews were panicked (about seven/ten minutes that time) it opened and i got them out, but it upset me since then it has happened with my passengers and this morning, it locked me in from the inside and nothing would release the locks, not the door not the remote, not the manual. I looked online and found that a lot of people are having this problem and they are being told its the rkem, this is a hazard and a half, i was about ready to bust the windows for myself (i was locked in for almost twenty minutes/had to keep restarting the car to get air in, because it was hot. I cannot imagine how this would not be a recall item.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the seat belt warning light would illuminate, followed by the illumination of the every warning light on the instrument panel, and then the vehicle would stall. The vehicle was able to be restarted after a few moments. The contact stated that the failure would occur on an intermittent basis. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the headlights were not working properly, the turn signals did not work, the horn sounded without warning, and the windshield wipers did not work. The vehicle was taken to be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 123,417.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, all the instrument panel lights illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The dealer diagnosed that the instrument cluster and wires needed to be replaced.the vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 133,274.

The brake lights and tail lights and turn signals all stopped working at an unknown time this year another driver told me they weren't working and the dealer told me it was a problem in the fuse box or part of it and wanted over $800.00 to fix it. My pt cruiser is a 2008 with apx 48,000 miles on it. The a/c system also failed when some smoke came from the front of the car. Not sure if there is a connection but the lights is a safety problem and the turn signals come on inside but not outside so i wouldn't know unless some one told me. I think the manufacturer should be responsible for this and the service adviser and parts department indicated this is a common problem.

Just after i bought this car, i have had this intermittent problem...while driving, at some point, all the dash lights go on, seat belt etc. As well as all the needles, speedometer, gas etc will go down...this can happen several times in a row, at which point the car has stalled out. About april 2012 the ic panel was replaced. After several times at the dealer and they couldn't get the car to make the problem happen. Well, it doesn't end there...last fallthe problem started happening all over again!!!! the dealer had it again several times, but this time they never diagnosed the problem. So, i figured i could drive the car with no heat, or air conditioning, no radio, no cruise control and the problem hasn't occurred, until just recently...this time it goes off continually, sometimes. This is so scary! the car can stall anywhere! i have been seeing this same issue on several blogs...still unresolved.

While driving the vehicle at any time, on a city street or highway, all of the lights on the cluster would light up, all gauges would fluncuatate and the car would stall and shut off.i have taken vehicle to independent mechanics and a certified chrysler service center and the problem is not able to be resolved. This issue causes concern and is effecting my transportation for employment and creating fear of driving the vehicle on highways.

While driving all instrument gauges began flashing and going up and down. Could not accelerate. Was able to pull over and turn off ignition. Restarted and proceeded on my way with no further problems. 3 days later while driving 70 mph down a busy interstate it happened again. I jiggled the key in the ignition and everything went back to normal. I was able to replicate the issue by jiggling the ignition switch. This incident occurred on 4 separate occasions. Took vehicle to dealer and no codes were found. Had the ignition switch replaced and after 1 week have not had the problem again. The ignition switch has always been easy to move and now with a new switch it feels "normal". With the recent recalls of ignition switch issues perhaps this needs to be investigated on chrysler models. This could cause serious injury and/or death if the engine stalls completely in traffic. Not to mention the fact of having no steering control if the engine does stall. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.

I have had multiple instances over the past three years where the vehicle loses power intermittently. On four occasions i have lost power and had to pull over to the side of the road to stop and restart the car. After the first incident i brought the car to my local mechanic and he could not determine any error codes dealing with the ignition. After my third visit he suggested going to the dealer who could not come up with a solution to the stalling or intermittent power loss. I asked both my local mechanic and the dealer if there was a technical service bulletin for this problem and was told there was none. Also, dash warning lights flash off & over time i learned if i touched the ignition key and moved it slightly the problem might go away. There have been multiple instances over the past three years when the vehicle would experience intermittent power loss and i have dealt with it by slightly moving the key. The intermittent dash warning light problem happened two or three months ago then stopped. Within the past two weeks 6/3/14-6/8/14 the dash warning light incident recurred three times and the vehicle stalled out in traffic on 6/14/2014.

I was coming home from work and driving down the street when the lights on the dashboard went out, the gas gauge went to zero and the car just died.i lost power steering and braking and i was lucky there was no one behind me at the time.the key was locked in the steering wheel and i could not restart.i called 911 for help as cars were now zooming up behind me stalled in the lane.i was so scared that someone would hit me. I sat waiting for the tow truck for about 15 minutes when the lights suddenly came on again and the gas gauge went back to full.i tried to start it and it started right up.i was able to drive it 2 blocks home.the next day i drove to the cleaners and while trying to park it died in the parking lot.i again waited and it finally started again.i took it to the chrysler dealership and they say they can find nothing wrong.they suggested i junk it for about $100. I have also taken to an independent mechanic and he said he could not find a problem.i see there are others who have reported a similar problem. And now there is a chrysler recall on other 2008 models with what seems like the same problem. I cannot drive this car because it is unsafe in traffic.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the instrument cluster would flash on and off while driving at various speeds on an intermittent basis. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they advised him that the vehicle would have to be reprogrammed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the dashboard light indicators would all illuminate erroneously while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they advised him that they were unable to diagnose the failure and that he would have to take the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

During driving operations, this is after start up,thedash board indicators will blink on, light up.this description includes all of the indicators, such as low tire pressure, oil, seat belt, etc.

The issues started at the end of november early december 2013. My car battery was unable to hold a charger and my car continuously would not start. I spent about 200 to have the alternator and starter tested as well as get a new battery put into my car. I then had the same situation happen the mechanic tried a new battery and my car worked for a week. Then it died again the mechanic sent me to an electrician the electrician still claimed it was the battery. Then today i had the car jump started again only to find i got not even half a mile from where i was and my car lights all over started flickering then my car completely shut off to the point my emergency four ways would not even work this happened right at a green light my car wasn't even stopped. This happened late at night so it was dark out and i had to call 911 because i was unsafe and so was anyone else trying to get down the road because i had no ability to signal to people in a safe way to move into the other lane. I have also found numerous reports by people driving my year and other years of the same make and model who have had very similar issues to mine. With a constant response of being told that there either is no problem with the car or they can say there is because they cannot duplicate the problem at the time. These cars are walking death traps to there owners when this happens cause it comes out of nowhere with no explanation and the company/dealer refuses to acknowledge the problem. I really don't think it is right for this to go unspoken any longer because if no one has been killed by it yet its a huge chance someone will/could! a vehicle cannot be perfectly fine if it just quits while driving for no reason at all.

When i purchased the car in january 2014 it had 58,000 miles on it. One week after purchase the right rear brake light blew out. I went back to the dealership (carmax) and had it replaced.no problem.three months later the light has blown again. I get a mechanic to look at it, needs a socket replacement. #issue 1in may 2014, there was a slight elevation in the temperature (high 80's), i wanted to try on the a.c., when doing so i heard a "pop" that sounded like it came from the vent. I thought maybe it came from not being used for awhile. The air did not blow cold right away, it took about 15 mins before the car began to cool. Now on the second attempt to run the a.c., the same things happened (the "pop", 15min cooling time) but a new problem came up...when i put the car in park it began to shake! it was idling, while sitting; then when i put it in drive it was okay (slight idle, but stopped). This problem does not happen all the time, it is very spontaneous.my plan was to get service on the a.c but i'm not sure that's the real problem #issue 2please help!!!!

Dashboard, inside, outside lights stopped working; windshield and back window wipers stopped working.according to dealership service dept. - instrument cluster need to be replaced; it happened again in 2011, and now again in 2012.per dealership service dept., ca law requires it be replaced - for safety sake.

I was driving in traffic when all of the dash lights came on and the engine quit running. At that time i lost all steering and braking for the vehicle. It has happened about 10 times since then, twice while i was on the highway.

In april 2012 my air conditioner started turning to warm air while waiting at a traffic light and acting as if it wanted to cut off. I took it to the dealer they couldn't find anything wrong. On august 6, 2012 i returned to the dealer with same problem, i was told there was a leak in the line, and if more problems bring it back. On august 8th the air conditioner not only turned warm the car cut off. As long as i'm running steady on the highway it works fine.iactually have to turn the air off at traffic lights or not run it at all around the city,i returned again to the dealer to no avail. I went on line to just answer today, chrysler expert informing me that possibly the electric cooling fan needs replacing which is common in pt cruiser.i am concerned it will cause more problems to my car.

A couple months ago my pt started acting up. The volume on the radio will turn up and down without touching anything. Also the radio will change stations back and forth without touching a button. I took it to the dealership and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with my car. The problem still happens to this day, just at random times.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and all the warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who recharged the battery, but could not repair the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to mark thomas motors inc (2315 santiam hwy se, albany, or 97322) where the dealer stated that the vehicle had the wrong battery, and changed the battery. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to mark thomas motors where it was diagnosed that the pcm, alternator, and wiring harness failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred once again. The vehicle was taken back to mark thomas motors and was still there at the time the complaint was filed. The dealer unable to replicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and the case manager stated that they likely could not assist because the vehicle was out of warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 93,500.

When passenger is seated in front passenger seat . Airbag light turns on and chimes until passenger exits vehical.

Car has had repeated issues with all warning lights coming on while driving and speedometer, tachometer and gas gauge all going dead.after a moment the gauges come back to life and the warning lights go off.it looks like the car was just started.the engine keeps running and the radio, wipers, etc all continue to function.issue is confined to the instrumentation panel.this can occur several times and then go for days without happening.i am not able to 'force' the condition and get it to occur on demand so the dealership is unable to address the issue. Internet searches reveal a number of possible issues including ignition switch and the totally integrated power module -i would just like to get it fixed so the car will be safe. This youtube video is very similar to what occurs with my car - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xovo0sic9bkor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcim1aypbhi.

While driving, the instrument warning lights start flashing off and on, the gauges drop to zero then com back up, and the engine falters sometimes and stops other times. When engine stops, power steering is lost. Car will start up again with starter.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the lights on the instrument panel began to flash and the vehicle suddenly stalled. The speedometer also malfunctioned. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who could not find the cause for failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.

When driving the car, dashboard lights start flickering, gauges start bouncing. Sometimes this is all that happens, other times it's as if the car stalls as i have no acceleration.a couple of times, the engine has shut itself off.in researching this online, i find dozens and dozens of instances of this same thing happening with pt cruisers.

Driving on frwy speedometer and rpm go crazy car turns off and turns back on. Very close to getting rear ended several times it is very scary.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving at any speed, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power and all the warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure intermittently occurred two minutes after the vehicle was restarted. The contact stated that the failure manually needed to be restarted in some instances of the failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Car looses power, dash lights turn on and off, occasionally turns completely off while driving. All power turns off including throttle and braking power. All lights in car dash light up and flicker while driving. This has gotten worse and happens everyday and everytime car is driven. Has been happening for the past 6 months.

Ignition cut out on freeway at 65 mph several times. Jiggled ignition key to get engine to run again. Should be recalled and corrected

Same as other owners, dash lights go on,gauges die,and car shuts off. It will restart after a bit and run fine until boom it happens again. No check engine lights or codes so dealer and shops cannot findproblem. Some even refuse to look at the car. I can not trust this car for any long trip or on the freeway.

Trunk lock will not open. There is no trunk keyed lock for insertion of a physical key and there is no emergency manual release on the trunk door itself. Lock only has functionality from key remote or lock release on driver door which is not working.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the gauges would suddenly malfunction and display erroneous information before the vehicle stalled. After restarting the engine, the vehicle would operate normally before the failure recurred. Also, the contact indicated that an electrical burning odor was present inside the vehicle during the incidences. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 106,000.

Fog lights turn on an off by themselves, does not matter weather the car is turned on or off, or even if the key is in the ignition.came out of work to find my battery was dead because the fog lights were on.if you go to the following link, you will see over 300 postings regarding the exact same issue:http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chrysler-pt-cruiser/tf81khbdldvt92ah2.

The engine will not turn over, all other power seems to be on.taken to mechanic and it will start.had it for a few days and it did the same thing.i had to pay for two tows so far, and they are saying that it turns on for them.i'm seventy years old and afraid to drive this car, because it might do it again when i'm further away from home.i live alone and drive the car alone.each time the car was parked.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the entire instrument panel illuminated and the vehicle hesitated to accelerate when depressing the accelerator pedal.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

While driving my 2008 pt cruiser home, all of the dashboard lights came on at one time and stayed on for the ten minutes it took me to get home.they came on again briefly two more times for no known reason. I searched the internet and found several possible solutions, wrote them down and i took the car in to the chrysler dealer in escondido, california.the dealer was unable to replicate the symptoms after checking everything on the vehicle so there was no repair made. I took the car home. Again in may, 2012, the car's instrument panel lights came on all at once and briefly while driving home. This is an extremely unsafe issue for consumers to deal with and i also urge an investigation and recall of the instrument panels on the 2008 pt cruisers.

The contact rented a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving 45 mph the contact pushed the horn and received an electrical shock. The contact was injured due to the shock. She spoke with the branch manager and was advised that there was nothing that could be done. The failure and current mileages were not available.

At 9 o'clock a.m. I was driving to the hospital to pick my girlfriend up everything was working fine but when i was leaving the hospital with her the gauges were going crazy so my girlfriend told me to go to auto advance to have my car checked out. On my way to auto advance the gage were going crazy again and the car shut thank god the car started up again. The a guy at auto advance checked the battery and the posts. He said that the battery and the posts are fine. So he ran a test on my car and said no codes are showing up. I don't know what's going on.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the entire instrument panel began to illuminate as the engine stalled. The vehicle was restarted after one hour and the contact was able to resume normally. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. The vin was unavailable.

My transmission will not go into the last gear and was slipping. Car has 38,000 miles on it and when i had it checked out the mechanic said there was a cellinoid bad in the transmission and when he replaced it the transmission still was not working properly by not changing gears and when he took the part back to the parts store he was informed that there was a problem with chryslers transmissions. I had a town & country van several years ago and that transmission also was defective. Now i cannot get my money back from buying a part that really wasn't needed because the transmission it self is defective. My mechanic felt so bad about this that he checked the internet and discovered chrysler has a problem with their transmissions. What rights or what can we do about this? i do not have monies to squander and i am still paying for my car. Thanks.

All lights and gauges flash or go to zero , engine fails and car stalls while going at highway speed. This has happened many times. Three times it has stalled to a halt, many times it just shudders. Car is almost undriveable.

Vehicle was moving at approximately 30 mph when a vehicle was hit crossed into my lanes and i hit the vehicle head on, police report was filed. Injuries to knee, chest and lap from belt. Airbags did not deploy.

I was driving in traffic when all of the dash lights came on and the engine quit running. At that time i lost all steering and braking for the vehicle. It has happened about 10 times since then, twice while i was on the highway.

Passenger seat airbag light remains off when unoccupied, goes on and chimes when someone is seated. Horn sticks.overheats when idled short periods (traffic lights, etc.)blows cold air when at idle, only provides heat when rolling. All these problems are common to this vehicle.

While driving, the instrument warning lights start flashing off and on, the gauges drop to zero then com back up, and the engine falters sometimes and stops other times. When engine stops, power steering is lost. Car will start up again with starter.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle jerked back and forth as if the brakes were being depressed and released. In addition, the vehicle began to smoke without warning. The contact was an independent mechanic and repaired the vehicle; however, the diagnosis was unknown. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 137,000.

My pt cruiser from time to time on a regular basis will suddenly stall. All gauges on instrument panel will light up and fall of at which call will stall. This action occurs either while idling and or at highway speeds while driving. The action sometimes will shut car down then after a few seconds start back up. Please find a solution. I've been investigating this situation and know one seems to care or no what the problem is. This has been occurring since 2006. I would like to no what has been done so i can get this dangerous problem fixed.

Everytime i turn on the ac unit the fan doesn't come on right away and when it doesit pops and the car begins to over heat. At the time i turn off the power.

Letter from senator brown on behalf of constituent re concerns about a mechanical failure she has experienced with her 2008 chrysler pt cruiser (dot/i#2010-1236) respond to cleveland, oh office *tgwfive months after the vehicle was purchased, the engine light illuminated.the consumer stated the 3rd cylinder failed.

My 2008 pt cruiser has a bad #3 valve. I had the car tuned up due to a misfire code of the #3 valve. After driving for two days with new spark plugs and wires, the car idled rough and the same code for #3 misfire valve came up on the dash. My mechanic checked the pressure in the valve and #1,2, & 4 had a pressure of 175 with # 3 having pressure of 110. My car only has 77,135 miles on it. I found another complaint with the same valve on the same year and their car only had 38000. Seeing how more than one car has the very same problem, doesn't this need looking into. My mechanic told me the only way to fix it was to replace valve or replace the engine head which costs around $1500.00.

Safety notice pt cruiser 2008car wash water can readily infiltrate the rear tail lights through the anterior vent, and cause both rear stop lamps to immediatelyheat fracture in the 2008 pt cruiser while washed by an automatic system. The high pressure waterenters through the top and glides back off the cavity boss, and runs down into the open vent. The ventshield is ineffective to this level of water flow. Additionally, the vent is paced at the top of the lightallowing for water to drip directly on a hot bulb. Preferably, the vent should be a bottom drain; but thiswould require redesign. (delta sonic , touch car wash route 277 orchard park, ny)my name is rc mechanical engineering b.s. Previous automotive fuel system safety productvalidation engineer, and now a hvac controls engineer. The likely failure mode of having a car wash is probably high speed impact at a stop light during nighttime driving. People could die. I recommend a service repair where narrow bent tube is aluminum taped tothe existing vent.

Windows go down on own or won't go down at all. Head lights come on when no one in car. Wipers come on when driving down road on own and go off on own.

2008 chrysler pt cruiser. Consumer writes in regard to vehicle fuel line.the consumer stated she had to pay $ 109.25 to have the fuel line removed and replaced.

The car tends to stall when driving in excess of 50, it will jerk a couple of times before going forward. It has been doing this for two weeks, i bought this car about a month ago. When going online to see if others were having this problem, i found it to be a common problem with people seekingand trying all types of solutions. Even taking the car back to the dealership and still having the same stall and rough idling. It appears to be a defect in the manufacturing.

The contact stated the rear trunk interior and exterior locks failed to release. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

I have been driving this car for a while and on the day this happened i had returned from work parked in my driveway with no problems.when it was time to go back to work i backed out of the driveway and noticed the car handled hard. I stopped shifted it back into park and then went back into drive still the steering was hard to turn.of course the was late friday memorial day weekend so i ended up renting a car for 5 days because of the holiday and the fact i had an extended warranty so no chrysler certified mechanic was on duty to work on my car.tuesday morning i go over to the dealership only to be told a belt had slipped and there was no explanation for why it happened.i wasn't charged for this but it cost me a tow and 5 days of rental for a car so i could get to and from work.when i got on this site i couldn't find any info so i still am not sure if the car is safe to take very far.

My daughter was on her way to nursing school when her 2008 pt cruiser accelerated on its own, with her foot off the gas pedal, to approximately 85 mph she had to use both feet on the brakes to stop it. I arrived about 15 minutes later, started the car, the accelerator was still stuck in the wide open position.chrysler towed the auto to olathe chrysler, they said no codes were stored and said nothing was wrong with the automobile. After a extended conversation, the service manager agreed to replace the accelerator cable and the throttle body. But stated he did not thinkthey were the problem but had no other ideas. When i asked if it was safe for my daughter to drive, he said i should drive it for a while in case it happened again. My response was is it safe forme to drive he said be careful. I also called chrysler but got the same response, without codes stored it is very hard to fix. They were very non-committal when asked willthe car be safe to drive after the cable and throttle body are replaced?

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal became stuck to the floorboard, while driving at 60 mph. The contact also stated that the horn activated and the vehicle jerked. The contact attempted to merge to the shoulder of the road and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact also mentioned that the air bag warning light illuminated intermittently. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.

The clutch started to make it hard to shift the transmission.this is arizona so it starts to warm up to about 100 degrees around this time (end of april).this then occurred again in 2011 and 2012 from april to the end of october (when it starts to cool off below 100 degrees).every year it has become progressively worse and today it is almost impossible to shift.there should be a recall since this an ongoing issue with all warm weather located pt's.

Have a 2008 pt cruiser.i had a issue with transmission.i was told by mechanic that there is a alert that the car needs a computer software update ($150).car is shaking.was told that this happens to all the pt cruiser that several bushing around the engine very fast wear out.passenger window sometimes does not go all the way up.these are safety issue that chrysler knows about but do not do anything.it is not like battery or tire that wear out.do they want to people get injured or die before they do anything?

The front passenger-side airbag sensor in the passenger seatbelt quit working after normal use. This causes the airbag light to go on whenever a passenger is sitting in the seat. The seatbelt needs to be replaced at a cost of $300.00.

Our 2008 pt cruiser was going north and a woman exiting an interstate going east ran a red light and hit us. The impact ripped off the front bumper, destroyed the engine, and twisted the front of the cruiser so the passenger door could not open. We were going 35mph i estimate her speed to be 55mph. None of the air bags in the cruiser deployed and the seat belt in the passenger side did not hold the passenger back. The passenger in the cruiser hit the dash causing injuries. The seat belt did not lock or tighten at all. This has to be a defective seat belt because the driver's side seat belt held them back.

Passenger seatbelt locks up, will not perform, i am 75 & wife is 71, danger for our lives....

Air bag warning light and chime activated.indicates no airbag deployment and possibly no srs capability.per lithia dodge chrysler jeep #4, "witech test codes set, b1b57, b1b55, b1b56, b1b54"."replace pass side front seat belt receiver (buckle), on national backorder no eta at this time".problem, reduced passenger safety, continues chiming at approximately 60 second intervals and bright red warning light; no fix available.

I had to have my passenger front side seat belt replaced too as the air bag light and sound would go off when any one sat in that seat. My replacement was under warranty.

I took a trip to pick my son up from college the night before thanksgiving.i was in heavy traffic on highway 91 and at times it was bumper to bumper.wheni got on the 91 my electronic driver's seat began adjusting itself without any input from me.the seat bottom moved up and down, at angles and forward to backward.all this happened continuously.i tried pushing the button that controls the seat and got not response.i ended up having to lurch around on my seat for almost an hour before i could get off the busy highway.it was a strain to remain in lane and staying upright.other drivers must have thought i was drunk and it was all i could do to keep from having an accident.the seat finally stopped moving when i turned off the car and got out.i woke up the next morning with a pulled muscle in my back and could barely walk.

I have changed the drivers seat trim panel many times now where it is held by 4 cheaply made plastic tabs then add insult to injury charge over a $100 for a cheap piece of plastic the size of a small dinner plate. When this breaks the seat adjuster switch is exposes the electric contacts to touching the seat frame and shorting drains the battery or worse case may start a fire, if chrysler is going to be allowed to make such a poorly engineered part to start they should at least offer a reasonably affordablereplacement, this replacement shouldn't cost more than 20 bucks

When passenger is seated in front passenger seat . Airbag light turns on and chimes until passenger exits vehical.

The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited an increased stopping distance when the brakes were applied. The brakes also emitted a squeaking noise during the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent dealer, who conducted a drivable performance check and a body electrical system check but could not find the failure. The dealer inspected and readjusted the rear brakes. The dealer then advised the contact to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer to perform another diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 51,954 and the current mileage was 68,000.

The contact owned a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. In addition, there was a loud abnormal noise. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the vehicle functioned as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not provided.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over on a dirt patch, which stopped the vehicle. The contact turned the vehicle off and smoke entered into the vehicle. The brake pads melted, which caused the smoke to rise from beneath the tires. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The vin was unavailable.

In dec. 2013, at 71k miles, in the car used by my college-age daughter, when starting the car on a cold morning (20's) i noted rock-hard brake pedal and no power assist whatsoever while backing down our driveway.by the street, it had a normal pedal feel and assist.this repeatedly happened in cold-morning starts.the dealer, klaben chrysler jeep dodge of kent, ohio, was helpful and eventually replaced the brake booster a few weeks later, for free.a year later my daughter mentioned the car was doing this again (cold weather had returned).i took the car back to klaben and said i was compelled to contact nhtsa as if i or my daughter hit a person because of no brake assist whatsoever, it would be tragic.in march of 2015, klaben again replaced the booster and pcv filter, free, informing me that there was oil in the booster.while this service was appreciated, when my daughter was home from college recently (jan. 2016), i started her car and the brake pedal was rock-hard when pushing it to take the car out of park.it immediately had power assist after that, but this tells me the problem is returning.there was a safety recall last year (after our car's last booster replacement) on 2013-14 dodge dart models for the same problem and the repair was identical--replace booster if oil is found in there.i believe other chrysler models besides the dart are experiencing this issue, as our car has.the recall should be expanded and hopefully a permanent fix found.i believe our car's cold-weather braking will continue to deteriorate and i don't want this problem to rear its ugly head in the next winter.

I was driving in traffic when all of the dash lights came on and the engine quit running. At that time i lost all steering and braking for the vehicle. It has happened about 10 times since then, twice while i was on the highway.

Driving 25 mph on a stop and go highway with traffic lights. It was not raining, but the pavement was wet. The vehicle in front of me stopped abruptly. I applied the brakes and they immediately locked causing me to skid 120 feet into the vehicle in front of me.

While driving on 10/7/2018 the steering became hard and upon stopping there were flames under the hood.i did research and found that there had been a recall on pt cruisers in the past, 04v268000. When i contact daimler chrysler i was told there were no recalls on my vin. Before driving the car on 10/7/2018 there was not any steering fluid under the car.luckily the fire was noticed prior to leaving the car or the car would have been engulfed in flames.i will like chrysler to pay for this repair.the car only has 70,000 miles and has been cared for very well.please let me know if you can help with this claim.thank you,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was exiting the highway and heard a pop and my car started spinning out of control and i almost hit a medium. My car was stuck on the exit ramp.

A car turned from left turn lane in front of me, about two ft. I hit it at slight angle on the drivers side. My car is totaled . Driver side air bag did not deploy.

Vehicle was moving at approximately 30 mph when a vehicle was hit crossed into my lanes and i hit the vehicle head on, police report was filed. Injuries to knee, chest and lap from belt. Airbags did not deploy.

I was forced to brake quickly and the car skidded almost as if on ice.after inspecting the car and not being able to see any visible problems i was on my way to find that the car was now pulling to the left and the rear passenger side tire was shaking violently when taking light bumps.upon arriving home i found that the rear support beam had broken clean through.

The check tire light came on in my 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. Upon filling the tire, the air-hose popped off and hit me. I found that the threaded portion of the stem was broken off along with the valve. I contacted chrysler about the sensor and the problem that i had experienced and was told that it was "common wear and tear" and that they did not cover this. I have checked with multiple tire sales companies and have found that this is a common problem and how the problem occurs. The air hose has to be placed and held totally straight on the valve. The stems are extremely fragile and often break if the hose is bent or pulled.i suffer from parkinson's and back problems and cannot stay bent down for very long so i was using a station that allows pre-set pressure and a clamping device for the stem. This is the first vehicle that i have owned with the new sensors and have had no warning about the danger involved. I feel that this item is either defective, cheaply made, or too fragile to be used on the tire. I also could have suffered worse than a bruised leg when the hose broke.chrysler will not replace this part and i cannot afford it.

Tpms light came on.stopped to check low tire. As i was trying to air it up i had a hard time.i inspected the valve stem to find it cracked around the threaded part.i took it to a chrysler dealer.i was told the tpms was not under warranty because it was not an internal failure.however when i had them order me one i was told that this tpms part was on back order.75,000 of them.sounds like a manufacturing defect to me.

Valve stem failure and rapid loss of tire pressure due to galvanic corrosion.

Can not shift into park to start car, and go into gears on 2008 automatic, once car starts and engine is warm no problem shifing

While attempting to add air to the rh rear tire a section of the valve stem broke and the valve core was expelled. This caused an immediate loss of tire pressure.had this valve stem failed while traveling at turnpike speeds it is quite possible the car could lost stability.the stem demonstrated advanced corrosion.an additional note the valve cap in use was not metal by plastic eliminating galvanic corrosion from dissimilar metals.

Vehicle is not shifting correctly.does good in first 3 gears but when increasing speed to 70 mph (legal limit on fl hwy)...vehicle will not shift into high gears but rpms rev to 4 and stay there until i back off gas pedal.additionally, car loses power when attempting to increase speed and especially when going up an incline.took vehicle to dealership and their claim of repair needed:performed a flash update to the pcm module and that the module is faulty.will cost 830.00 for pcm/tcm and not able to guarantee that is even the problem.but if not the pcm, then we are stuck with repair and possibly be something else wrong with vehicle.has anyone else had a problem like this?if so, please contact me so i know which direction to take as i cannot afford this repair.thank you.

Leaving a restaurant-backed out of parking space, had turned wrong way to leave; re-enter parking space, went to back out again when gearshift broke, was loose & couldn't put in gear to go forward or backwards. Was pushed back into parking space. Called for help. Several people looked at it & found a way to turn transmission/gearshift into gear manually. Took pt cruiser to shop to be fixed. The gearshift selector cable had broken. Had to remove & replace shift selector cable - automatic trans. The gearshift was slightly tight to shift when we first got the car, but the day before the cable broke, it was getting really hard to shift.now that it is fixed it shifts really easy. Wondering if the cable was already tightening up from the beginning.

Following an oil change and air filter replacement at a valvoline express shop, the technician used an air hose to blow out debris (seeds, nuts, etc.) from the air filter box.approximately one mile after leaving the shop, the gas pedal on the car went loose, and the engine kept revving, steadily increasing the speed of the car.i was able to slow the car by braking hard and eventually switching to neutral, and pulled the car safely to the side of the road.the engine continued to rev as though i had the gas pedal to the floor.when i contacted the valvoline shop, they sent out a manager and technician to check the car.they quickly found that one of the "nuts" from the air filter box had become stuck in the throttle assembly, causing me to lose control of the cars acceleration.after removing the obstruction, there have been no further problems.although i was able to control the car and bring it safely to a stop, this could have resulted in a serious accident under other conditions (heavy traffic, higher speeds, etc.).it seems that there should be a safety mechanism that recognizes when the brake is being applied while the throttle is wide open, and allows the driver to regain control.also, i strongly believe that removing debris from the air filter box should be done with a vacuum rather than a high pressure air hose which essentially blows the debris throughout the engine compartment, potentially causing problems like this one. The affected vehicle was a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser touring with 50,000 miles , and was traveling at approximately 40 mph when the accelerator failed.

The contact owns a 2008 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving 40 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the transmission made a loud knocking noise and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to marx auto center (132 rockdale ave, south dartmouth, ma 02748, (508) 997-2377), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

The airbag sign for passenger 2 turns on after a while of driving, speeding problem when when trying to accelerate the car takes forever to speed up

Dashboard, inside, outside lights stopped working; windshield and back window wipers stopped working.according to dealership service dept. - instrument cluster need to be replaced; it happened again in 2011, and now again in 2012.per dealership service dept., ca law requires it be replaced - for safety sake.

While driving to work in the rain the wipers stopped mid cycle, when i made adjustments on the column control the wipers went into low speed mode and would also work in the high speed mode, however the wipers would not stop working until several tries to turn them off worked.the problem continued to present it's self and at one point the wipers continued to run with the key in the "off" position.i made an appointment with dick hannah chrysler in vancouver , wa on 3 dec 2011 where the problem was found to be in the t.i.p.m (fault code b3205) .i have made arrangements to have the t.i.p.m replaced by this dealer when they get the t.i.p.m replacement from chrysler (5 days out).the cost of this problem caused by one circuit of the t.i.p.m is $840.00 and there is no way to have the one circuit replaced or repaired on the defective unit in the pt cruiser.the cost of this problem is only one issue in this matter the major issue is safety caused by the distraction of attention when the problem presents itself while the vehicle is being driven.there are many sites on the internet that have information regarding the t.i.p.m failure on chrysler vehicles which indicates a safety problem with the t.i.p.m.i feel that this matter should be looked into as it is a potential safety hazard waiting to present loss of visibility and distraction of attention in regard to safe operation of the vehicle.

Windows go down on own or won't go down at all. Head lights come on when no one in car. Wipers come on when driving down road on own and go off on own.
