I was in an accident september 11th at 10:5 0am.i was sitting on the 15 freeway in san diego california waiting for on-coming traffic when i was hit at about 60 miles per hour from behind.i was pushed into the car in front of me and my air bags did not deploy.my car was totaled by the insurance company.my sister called chrysler september 15, 2005 and asked why my air bags did not deploy.she was told they would have to investigate.chrysler was given all the information needed to start an investigation.i called again, september 19, 2005 at 2:40 pm and was told that my case was sent to another department, but couldn't tell me what department.then when asked"how can you tell me it was transferred to someone and you can't give me a name i was told that's all they could do.i called again september 20, 2005 at 8:53 am and spoke with chris who told me that the investigation was still pending.i asked him to transfer me to someone who could tell me the status of this investigation and i was transferred to larry (no last name).i was told they had a week to complete the investigation and i still have not heard anything effective october 5,2005.i would like an investigation as to why chrysler gives their customers the run around when something this serious happens.i am out of work until ocotber 31, 2005 (so far). I hit my head on something because my air bags did not deploy.i can't remember what i hit my head on.of course as of now the bruises have healed, but my sister did get picutres of me from this accident. If thereis something else i can do please advise me in which direction i cantake.thank you in advancesherry bourbon.

Vehicle would not start, this has happened numerous times in the past. I have replaced the fuel pump relay and this has corrected the problem. In the past the vehicle did start with a jump or by cleaning the positive battery terminal.
Was driving at 45mph when the car shut down and will not re start the key ignition in the column went out i feel i should not have to pay to replace this so early in the cars life at low miles?
My car caught on fire
I have a concern about all the issues with this car. On march 29th my fog lights would not turn off even when ignition switch was turned off. I went on line and saw several "blogs" about this issue - i am an older women with minimal knowledge of these things so i went to a parts store that was open and the clerk pulled the #8 fuse out - for the fog lights so my battery would not run down before service/repair was open on monday- the mechanic stated he could fix it and also that the dealership just took in a used cruiser and the fog lights did not work - they found that someone had took the fuses out for that cruiser also - is this a defective issue- appears now according to the internet the replacement part has been improved. I also had to replace the entire computer and again seems other cruiser owners have had this issue also - this is a lot of expense and with the loan on the car is difficult to now get a different car as this does seem to be a lemon - but i have to keep it till i can afford to get a different car - with all these issues - no one will want this one either.
I have a complaint about the air conditioner in my 2005 pt cruiser touring edition.when i use the air or the heat or defrost i can smell sour smell coming from the vents. I took it to the dealer service department, they checked it and told me the air conditioner had moisture built up in it. They told me they would have to clean and deodorize it but they would have to order the cleaner and deodorizer and the equipment to fix it. I called them back the following week they said they had everything to fix it, but when i returned on november 11, 2005 they still did not have all of the equipment to fix it.
My wife's 2005 pt cruiser with only 10,100 has a continual problem starting. By replacing or reinstalling the fuel pump relay the engine will start. Recently on one occasion the engine stalled; gladly in a parking lot, had this happened on the road or freeway an accident could have been caused. Has chrysler been notified about the problem and is it just this particular vehicle or are there others with similar problems and will there be a recall by chrysler to fix this problem before or after an accident?
Windos dont work for 2nd time in 8 months. First time they claim bad wiringnot sure second tme had nt taken it in yet taking in jan.21,2016 to dealer.
I own a 2005 pt cruiser; i have 134,000 miles on the car, and keep it serviced regularly. I have had numerous issues with safety factors concerning this vehicle since october 2009. December 2009 my timing belt went out on interstate.i lost control of the vehicle as the vehicle was traveling 70 mph. I had it repaired by a certified mechanic, which included a new water pump. I continued to have overheating issues, and continued to have diagnostics and nothing could be identified as the problem. February 2010: i had to have valves seals repaired due to them leaking oil onto the engine which was a potential fire hazard. This was done by a certified mechanic. April 2010: i continued to have overheating issues. I was also now having electrical issues where my taillights were continuously blowing the bulbs completely out, to where the bulbs would be broken and i would have no lights at all on the back of my vehicle, there were times this would occur at night which was a serious safety issue. May 2010: i brought my vehicle back to chrysler dealer; again nothing could be resolved. June 2010: brought the car back for diagnostics. The dealer kept the vehicle all day. The dealer concluded that the cooler sensor and sensor plug needed replaced, and tail light receptors were changed out. June 2010: alternator went out and it was replaced, and also installed a new battery. When traveling i set my cruise control on 55. The cruise control took over my acceleration and in no my vehicle accelerated to 115+ mph, i could not turn off the cruise control, the brakes failed to work, the key would not turn off. I finally pulled the e-brake to slow the car, and had to put the car into neutral, then into park. It was not until i managed to get the car into park that the vehicle stopped accelerating by itself. I turned off the vehicle. I feel these issues need to be addressed. These safety issues are of a serious nature. Your time in looking into this.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. While the vehicle was stationary, the contact noticed smoke coming from the root of the turn signal switch. The contact immediately pulled the fog lamp switch, which diffused the smoke. A police report was not filed. The contact stated that the fog lights were illuminated at the time of the failure. An unknown chrysler dealer was made aware of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 106,000.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser.the contact stated that the flood warning light would illuminate sporadically.the contact would have to turn the vehicle off and back on for the warning light to disappear.the manufacturer denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 32,000 and the current mileage was 36,000.
Dashboard lights go out at will and engine lights show codes even after replacing sensorsnow 02 sensors not working .look like this had been a ongoing problem for years now and chrysler fails to address the problem. Please help myself and other pt drivers having the same problem.
The defects in my vehicle are primarily related to the electrical system failing resulting in the engine shutting off. All of the power goes out; the engine dies and comes back on after either a few moments or a few minutes.during this time the vehicle is very difficult to steer and near impossible to brake.this occurs intermittently, on multiple occasions while at speed on the interstate.to date (1/16/2006) this has occurred 18 times on my vehicle.the dealership has told me on many occasions that they are not confident on what is causing this problem.this condition has been witnessed by others.i bought this car new in april 2005.i began having problems with it at around 12000 miles in september 2005.this problem is still present and dc does not know what is causing it.they offered a similar 2005 pt but refused to buy the vehicle back.from what i have found so far, there have been 9 similar occurrences of this and none have been solved.thereby, i refused to take another 2005 pt cruiser.i do not have any confidence in the car so it sits parked while i must continue to make payments while this matter goes through the courts.they also stated that they were only attempting what daimler chrysler directed them to do.the dealership has attempted to fix this problem with no success on four occasions (10/06-10/07, 10/20-10/24, 10/24-10/28, 11/07-11/17).the dealership promised to make necessary part replacements and then drive it one to two hundred miles after.they did not do either.they said that they do not have the manpower to have someone drive it several hundred miles to replicate the problem.most times the car is on the highway for several hours before it dies.i have given the dealership plenty of opportunities to fix this problem.this is a very serious and severe safety issue for both me and other drivers on the road.

I have a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The fog lights come on unintentionally and drain the battery when the engine is turned off. I was left stranded in empty parking lots 3 times with my car battery dead. It seems the multi function switch is the culprit and this issue existed since 2001 models, chrysler has done nothing to fix it for 10 years.
My 2005 pt crusier bought used with 27000 miles on speedometer in june 2009. Recently the motor stubbles and shakes like it wants to stall. I have even had it just quit in the middle of traffic causing traffic to avoid me by near miss. I see that others have had the same problem isn't this a safety issue warranting a recall.
2005 chrysler pt cruiser touring ed. - purchased at dodge dealership, extended warranty contract purchased, and veh. Was a certified veh. At time of purchase, within the first 30 days veh. Was in for a new headgasket, less than 13k miles, replaced front brakes and shoes within the first 15k miles, now driving to work in heavy traffic conditions, and as i was coming to a congested intersection, the car went completely dead, total loss of pwr, cars were slamming on brakes swerving to not rearend my veh. That was pwr less. No brake lights, no hazz. Lights, and nowhere to go but sit frantically in the middle of cars near missing me as each one passed by, it must have been 3 min. As i continually tried to start the veh, and now power at all, not a sound, then out of nowhere it started up as if there was never a problem at all, 73k miles and now this. What next, am i going to find out what the other 10 incidents that are identical to this pwr failure situation that there is no mechanical resolution to this at all, and i will just have to take my chances every time i get in and drive hoping that it never happens on the freeway, is someone going to have to loose their life before chrysler ack. That this is a life threatening problem?
Windows on car will not work after having it repaired 8 months ago 2nd. Time it has happened since we had it.
Car stalls while driving.sometimes wont start.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, an abnormal smelled a plastic odor in the vehicle. The contacted then noticed that there was smoke coming from the turning signal arm connected to the steering wheel column.the vehicle was turned off once the smoke decreased and was towed to an authorized dealer. The contact was awaiting repairs to the vehicle. The failure and current mileage was unknown.
05 pt cruiser has had electrical problems since feb 05 (bought new.)the first time i filled up, the "check engine" light came on.referring to the owners manual, i restarted the car a couple of times and the light went off.at the first oil change, i told the service manager, and was told that the gas cap was probably loose.ok -- maybe.they re-set the computer and downloaded a software update from chrysler.within 3 days, the light came on again.took it in & reset and was told again it was probably the cap.not -- i made sure the cap was tight after the first incident.over the next year, the "check engine" light has come on at least once between each oil change.some times it stays on the entire time, sometimes it comes on and goes off two or three times. The service departments (2 different dealers) can find no stored code, nor can they replicate the problem.they -set the computer each time. I've also had both the rear windows open without notice several different times under different circumstances.once, the passenger-side rear window stayed open for nearly 40 min before closing on its own.usually happens upon first starting the car.in addition, the entire rack & pinion has been replaced because of a failed sensor earlier this year.3 months ago, the car started stalling within 5 miles of starting.sometimes, the entire motor shuts down; sometimes i just loose 1000-1500 rpms. After popping the clutch, the engine is fine for however long i want to drive.again, the service department couldn't replicate the problem.this month (10-07) a 3rd dealer replaced the o2 sensor and a new factory software download, after having the car for a week.the car seemed to run much better for 10 days, then the light came on again.so far, it hasn't stalled again.i'll take it in for an oil change &have the computer re-set this week.do i have a lemon?

While driving my turn signals and windshield wipers stop working.took it in to the dealer and they said it was a blown fuse.they replaced the fuse and away we went.this has happened 3 times altogether within the last 2 months, and the dealer can't find the problem.what actions do i take next?this is a safety hazard when i have to turn signals or wipers especially when it is raining.
Please help, this is my only car and my son and i depend on it for everything. While driving on the expressway my vehicle began missing ( shaking etc..) until it finally died on the expressway. It started when i pulled away from a stop light and began to pick up speed accelerating to blend in with traffic flow.i was not able to get over 40 mph.1.the rpm gage jumps all over the place2.the car quits while driving down the road3.the quits while running in heavy traffic moving slow (more often on hot days)4. Car dies at stop lights (random)5. Car engine dies when trying to accelerate (random)6. Car dies no response for seconds then it restarts at high speeds on the express way.i took it to an auto parts store that will diagnose problems with cars using a tool that they hook up to the car.they said it was the cam shaft sensor, my father contacted the local service station and they recommended replacing the timing chain as well. This problem has been on going since 2012, though i would love to sell it i would feel responsible if someone was killed because of this problem.i never know when the problem will start i have spent more money that i should trying to fix this.is there someonewho can help so my car will be safe for me and my son?
My car caught on fire
While stopped at a stop light the car just turned itself off.restarted again by turning the ignition.has done this several times since and even wile running on the freeway at freeway speeds.have to manage to get off the freeway and wait a bit to restart via the ignition switch.one time a gentleman even pushed the car to help be get it off of the roadway.have tried numerous times to repair auto by changing out the various sensors indicated by the code shown in the mileage/speedometer gauge.numerous technicians have tried to remedy the situation.works for awhile, then reverts to stalling again and again.
After coming from the store i notice a big spot of oil on the garage floor,i wipe it up went inside the house the next day i went on some errands came back to the house and some more oil, at this point call my localparts house he came up with a bad front oil seal. So i wanted to did further into this, and found a lot of dodge, chrysler, owner had this same problem.i pull up and copy these problem's some p/t owners said the dealer wanted to charge them to change the engine because of the thrust bearing was to far out of specs.and pushing the front seal out and causing leak. If this would happen at high speeds, this would have a terrible terrible problem. I think chrysler knows about this, because one chrysler tech did say he knows the 2.4l has a crank seal issue on a handful of the vehicle. Now our p/t only has 55,000 miles on it and this problem should not be. Most owner that i've read about has mileage no more than 110.000.andsome have had the seal replace two-three times. I think chrysler needs to step up to plate and address this problem now we are stuck without a car. This could cost in the thousands, this problem should have address long ago.the hole under carriage is soak with oil.
While getting on interstate my car would not go but only 30 mph then my check engine light came on and car died. Got my car started after waiting a few minutes. Took it to advance auto and they said it was cam shaft position sensor; so i replaced it. 6 months later it did it again. I replaced it. Now every 2 to 3 months the sensor goes bad and the people at advance say something has to be wrong because the car shouldn't be going through that many sensors. I have had my car die in the middle of the street with my kids in the car. I am scared that it is going to die and i will be hit.
I purchased this vehicle used from fred beans, boyertown, pa on 8/1/13 with approx. 78k miles on it.i was driving in traffic, slowing down for a traffic, when my vehicle lost power and then began to hesitate when i attempted to pick up speed.there was no acceleration and it appeared the car would stall.it never stalled but i did pull over and shut the car off, started it again and after a few moments, was able to drive normally for a few miles.the check engine light went on and the car hesitated again.this was looked at and determined, since there was no other occurrence, to be a "glitch" and the check engine light was reset by the garage (no charge and no diagnostics).in january the same problem occurred and the garage replaced the cam sensor.shortly after that the problem occurred again and the sensor was again replaced.it is now april and again the problem is occurring, all of these incidences while driving, causing an unnecessary slow down which could have resulted in a rear end collision.i've spoken with the dealership who referred me to the original shop that replaced the sensor (scooty's, pennsburg, pa) and to auto zone who sold me the next sensor.i still owe money on this vehicle and apparently it's not worth half of what i owe due to these problems and i am concerned about driving it more than a mile in case this problem occurs again.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that she noticed a leak on her driveway. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 29,500.

The contact owned a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. Approximately ten minutes after parking and turning off the vehicle, it caught on fire. The contact noticed smoke and flames under the front driver's side of the vehicle where the engine was located. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was invalid.
My car suddenly started leaking massive amounts of oil.i brought my car to tires plus to see if there was something they could do to fix my car and how much it would cost.they advised me that chrysler has been aware of the failure issue for some time but has not issued a recall to fix the issue.they also advised that they were unable to fix my car as once the gasket failed initially it would lead to serial failure of the gasket and the replaced part would only last from 3 to 6 months.how is it possible that chrysler could know about this and not take responsibility?
I was driving from blackwell ok to perry oklahoma on 7/07/14 to drop off a friend when all the sudden the motor starting knocking light then hard and then it just quit all with in five minutes my motor blew up i called my da to have him come and check it out as he is a mechanic he looked it over and said the oil cooler line that runs under the oil pan blew the line right at the connectors on the oil cooler line he then loaded it up on the trailer and took it back to my house had another mechanic come check it out he said the same thing about it we just bought it on 06/07/2014 from pioneer auto group out of ponca city oklahoma the motor cost is 1400.00 to 1800.00 to replace it my dad gave 3800.00 for it what do i do now no car.
Front crank seal is pushing out, massive oil leak.i have had this repaired 2x and it still leaking oil.the repair shop has told me that it is a manufacturers defect and that they should fix it for me.they said that it is not a matter of if it will happen again but when it will happen and it should be fixed by manufacture for me.when it leaks it leaks on timing belt and than the engine slips.please help!

Recently, i noticed a puddle of oil forming under my car when it was parked briefly.a check of oil showed that it was slightly below normal, but well within range.topped up oil and started engine, and steady stream of oil was seen to be coming from crank oil seal. The day before this car did not drip a drop of oil.mechanic found seal was in tact, but completely loose from engine.had seal replaced by certified mechanic, and in less than 15 miles the oil leak returned. After seeing multiple similar accounts on internet, had the mechanic open the engine and found the crank end play to be well over .020" and the thrust bearing wiped along with damage to the crank thrust face. Oddly chrysler seems to only install the thrust bearing on only the top half in this design. The problem seems to be the thrust bearing fails, the crankshaft then walks into the back of the seal and knocks it out. Fortunately, i noticed the puddle, before this failed at highway speed. This could have emptied the oil in minutes and seized up the engine at speed. This is clearly a known design flaw that chrysler is avoiding taking responsibility for.no engine should have this sort of failure in the 21st century!
I purchased a 2005 pt cruiser in june 2008. Several months later i noticed that my car would shake once i turned on my ac. While it was under warranty, i took it back to the car dealership and they advised me that i needed a tune up. So i had my car serviced for a tune up to only find out that the problem on persisted. I took the car to several mechanics and no one could figure out the problem. They all said i needed spark plugs although i just had them replaced. Flash forward to november 2010, on my way to work out of no where my car started putting and my engine was shaking as if my car was about to explode. Again i took it to a mechanic and he said the same thing... Tune up. Clearly this was not the case, however i had my gaskets changed to see if that was the issue...negative. So i decided to google what the problem was myself just to see if i missed a recall or if this is a problem. T o my surprise i found several forums specificallly for teh chrysler pt cruiser. To top the cake their issues was the exact same issues i was having with my car. Engine shaking, car putting, and the car cutting off while driving! i called chrysler to see if there was a recall and i was so baffeled that there was not. This is clearly a safety issue and i'm very dissapointed that chrylser is ignoring the seriousness of the matter! this can potentially cause a fatal accident. How scary is it driving on the highway and your car just stops or starts putting! i have spent over $500 trying to fix this issue and others have spent thousands on chryslers behalf. My car still has the same issues today 8/26/2011. I can't afford a new engine especially when this is a more than common issue. Please google "pt cruiser engine shaking problems" and see the many blogs and complaints. Each blog has the same issues listed, and i know this has been brought to chrysler's attention but they choose to ignore it. Fyi.. It only took toyota 11 complaints for them to recall their vehicals.
Since new, feb. 2005, my 2005 pt cruiser shakes and stumbles at idle. At 180 miles, the engine stopped in freeway traffic. I was able to get the car restarted, but it ran extremely rough. The dealer replaced a crankshaft position sensor. The engine hasn't died since, but i still experience rough idle and stumble on acceleration. The dealer tells me they can do no more to correct the problem.
Dt*: the contact stated the engine light continued to illuminate and the engine stalled at various speeds.the vehicle has been to the dealership four times.the dealership replaced the pcm module twice.the dealership replaced four spark plugs and various wiring twice, but the problem persisted.
The pt cruiser 2005 turbo was purchased new and currently has 68,296 miles. The vehicle has shut off on numerous occasions while we were driving. We immediately contacted cerritos dodge chrysler jeep (cerritos, ca) and glen e. Thomas (signal hill,ca}andboth serviced vehicle. Neitherdealers fixed the problem.the last time we paid a service technician almost $100 to just ride around with us to see if vehicle would stop. Again nothing was done. After finally bringing the car back 6 times for the same problem, within a 12 week period, they told us to contact the corporate division at chrysler because they would not service our vehicle.the most recent occurrence was in september 2011( which put others life in danger)we were driving on the freeway at 60 miles/hr. The car just shut off, again without any warning. We are afraid to drive the vehicle on a regular basis, for fear of risking the lives of others and ourselves. We are currently seeking a recall because we know of other ownerswho has experienced the same problem.
I have a 2005 touring edition pt cruiser and it has been a headache for the last 21 months. In spring 2009, after having the car only 2 years, it starting leaking oil so i took into the dealership. They said the oil pan gasket was loose. They fixed it in a day and it ran fine, then a few months later, in august, it started leaking again. This time they said the oil was leaking from the front of the engine so they had to replace the cam seals, front crank seal and the oil pan gasket.i got it back a week later and was told the front brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced. I took it to a repair shop for the brakes and the mechanic said he'd never seen rotors wear that fast before. It ran pretty good until september 2009 when it started leaking oil again, took it to the dealership again this time they said they had to replace the short block, gaskets for the upper and lower engine, timing belt cover, crankshaft sprocket, and all the fluids in the car.they didn't charge for fixing this time because the said it was a manufacturing defect.another week in the shop and they said it was in running condition again. In may 2010 all four tires needed to be replaced because of tire rot and the spare didn't look that much better then the tires. Later the same month the car started making a horrible noise need slowing to stop and starting. Took it to the dealership again, the starter and flexplate need to be replaced.it was in shop a week, went to pick it up and was informed that one of the motor mount bolts was broken. It needed to be replaced along with the motor mount itself. They also said they deemed the car unsafe to drive and would not test drive it to make sure it was running correctly.i took the car home, two days later as i was driving home the gas pedal broke. It was against the mat and i could not get the engine to rev. Thankfully i was by the median lane so i could roll out of traffic.
I was on the freeway, and the road had a natural "bump" in it, causing a slight bit of lift with the vehicle, and the vehicle swayed from side to side, and i had to immediately slow down, and counter steer in order to keep it in my lane.i took it to my mechanic today, and the right lower motor mount is broken. I just replaced that same mount less then 6 months ago. My mechanic said they know of a cruiser that had 8 front right motor mounts replaced. There is an entire site on the internet dedicated to people who have had major issues with motor mounts going out over and over again on their cruisers.

I purchased a new 2005 chrysler, pt cruiser.i have experienced rough idling at times.lately, i am experiencing stalling while driving.i loose all power i can press the gas pedal to the floor and it does nothing then in a few seconds it will go.at stops it will almost godead.i looked on the web site and saw a lot of complaints filed with my problems.i feel a recall should be done before someone is badly injured because their pt cruiser stalls while driving!below are the odi id numbers: 10102249, 10126616, 10138986, and 10163025. Thank you.
While driving in city i noticed a knocking in the engine. I pulled over and saw oil pouring out of front of engine. I shut engine off. At no time did oil pressure warning light come on. Called aaa and had car towed to nearest chrysler dealer. Dealer diagnosed problem as blown camshaft seal. Replaced seal but when running engine still made knocking sounds. Waited for engine specialist to come back from vacation. He said engine needed to be replaced and he would contact chrysler. Chrysler insisted engine be torn down to identify source of problem. Problem was crankshaft thrust bearing broken in half allowing crankshaft to move laterally forcing out crankshaft seal, hence all the oil, and more extensive damage to other engine components. I requested a "crated" engine be installed. Dealer said none available. At present waiting for delivery of cylinder head. Car has been in the shop 20 days. Mileage at time of incident: 3,541 miles. Fortunately this failure did not occur at highway speeds where the result could have been much worse.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact noticed that there was a slight oil leak. She checked the engine and saw that there was an adequate amount of oil inside of it. Later that evening, the oil light illuminated on the dashboard. When she checked the engine, there was no oil on the stick at all. The next morning, she put four quarts of oil in the engine. Before leaving work, she put two more quarts in the vehicle as it showed that she was two quarts low. By the time she reached home, the oil light was illuminated again. She put four quarts of oil and took the vehicle to a repair shop the next morning. The mechanic told her that cam seal failed and possibly caused the oil leak. The vehicle was repaired. When the mechanic restarted the vehicle after it was repaired, all of the oil leaked onto the ground. The mechanic then called her to say that the failure could have been caused by the engine pump. She called the dealer and was told to instruct the mechanic to inspect the thrust bearings. The mechanic confirmed that the thrust bearings were defective. She called the manufacturer and was told that someone would call her in 24 to 48 hours (she was currently awaiting a response). The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 66,000.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser.while driving at various speeds, the vehicle's temperature gauge dial would rise above the halfway mark.the fan had to be activated in order for the dial to return to its normal position.the dealer stated that the fan and thermostat failed and needed to be replaced.there was no recall regarding this failure.the current mileage was 69,029 and failure mileage was 64,000.

The windshield of my 2 year old pt cruiser has a very large crack which is getting bigger every day. The cooling system failed and the vehicle overheated after driving a few miles. The diagnostic engine light came on and remained on. The ac stopped working. Huffines chrysler charged me over $500 to repair the cooling system.
Car bought with 180 miles on it. At a stop, while in idle, the car shutters and shakes.now the car has 1700 miles on it and it still shutters in idle. Engine seems to be consistantly misfiring.
2005 chrysler pt cruiser engine caught fire. The vehicle was serviced two days before the fire occurred.a passerby extinguished the small fire.
The headgaskets on the engine are leaking.the car has approximately 30,000 miles on it.it is being repaired.
I purchased new,2005 pt cruiser in el paso, tx. Returned car for service at 3 weeks with engine problems- missing, misfire. Dealer said nothing wrong & reset computer. Returned car following week- engine used 1/2 qt oil in one week. Could smell gas while driving car. Dealer said nothing wrong. I spoke with sales manager and tried to return car. They said no, this was normal. They said cars could use oil in first month of usage. They said this would never happen again. I was being transferred to dallas following week, they said no problem, if anything was wrong go to dealer in dallas. Sept- car used 1/2 qt oil again, gas/oil smell getting stronger while driving- effecting my asthma. Returned car to dealer for service- service said oil usage normal for up to one year. Service said that chrysler would not do anything about issue until car was using 1 qt oil every 500 miles. Service did oil change. Service started oil usage report on car and said to bring car in every 500 miles for check. I drove car 500 miles and checked oil. Service has overfilled oil level and is 1/4 inch over the fill line. Returned to service and they refused to check oil and said that i needed appointment and would need to leave car again. Car to go to service for fourth time on monday, oct 10.
2005 chrysler pt cruiser 71144 mile blew crankshaft oil seal, but needs engine replaced. This is defective product premature defect on all 2.4 engines a recurring problem.
My son, who lives the orlando area, was slowly turning right at an intersection in his 2004 pt cruiser when he sustained catastrophic damage to the vehicle without having an accident.according to the service advisor at the dealership, this is what happened.the air intake for the engine is located behind the right front wheel.he slowly went through a puddle of water only a couple of inches deep while having the wheel turned to the right.a few drops of water off of the wheel got into the air intake, causing the engine to immediately seize.$5000 repair job.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser.the contact stated that the timing belt inside of the engine failed while driving 60 mph.a near crash almost occurred.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the warranty only covered three years and 36,000 miles.the dealer informed the contact that he would have to pay for the repairs; however, he does not want to pay.the failure mileage was 55,805.
I have had nothing but trouble with my 2005 chrysler pt cruiser, but the final straw is when, after filling the gas tank and starting it - the car backfired and blew the plugs.cost to replace $2,900.00.this happening right after i spent $1,400.00 to replace bushings and tie rods.chrysler corporate asked me to take it to one of their dealers in which i did.chrysler corporate nor the dealer will discuss the factory defect stating no know reason for a vehicle to blow two plugs when it only has 81,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that after inspecting the vehicle he noticed the air conditioner accumulator leaks water onto the fuel lines. The fuel line had rusted through and was leaking fuel. The contact stated the fuel line needed to be replaced and a shield would have to be installed between the air conditioner accumulator and the fuel line. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 96,086.
Headlights are so cloudy, looks to be unsafe. Have tried 3 different products on the market to correct this but so far nothing has helped. Seems like something that is going to be out in the weather like a headlight could be made from something better than they are.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact was driving 25 mph when the fog lights failed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that the switch for the fog lights needed to be replaced. The there were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 40,000.

The fog lights on my 2005 pt cruiser come on by themselves. Engine off - keys not in ignition. Dead battery twice in the past 24 hours.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the headlight icon illuminated independently on the instrument panel when the headlights were not activated. In addition, the contact noticed smoke coming from the turn signal handle. The contact deactivated the fuse but later noticed smoke coming from the window control switch on the dashboard console. There was also an excessive vibration coming from the front end of the vehicle when being driven at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the motor mounts would have to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
The fog lights would not shut off.technician at the dealership removed the fuse until we could schedule them to work on it.when we took it in to be fixed, they replaced the multifunction switch.
Front tires keep going flat and i am told because car heavy in front.i air them once every 2-4 weeks.front lamps are not strong enough and hard seeing at night.car purchased from bellevue, wa ford which just burned down few weeks ago as a used car and was not informed of this
I have a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The fog lights come on unintentionally and drain the battery when the engine is turned off. I was left stranded in empty parking lots 3 times with my car battery dead. It seems the multi function switch is the culprit and this issue existed since 2001 models, chrysler has done nothing to fix it for 10 years.
Fog lights going on/off without activation by driver. After motor was shut off fog lights continue to stay on. Trying to control fog light function thru multi-function switch not successful. Had to pull fog light fuse from fuse panel. Pt cruiser websites confirm this is a common problem with multi-function switch on most model years of pt cruisers.
It was discovered that the rear lights were not on with the headlights and the brake lights(same bulbs) were not working. Upon investigation, both light bulbs had burst.when taking it to the parts store, they felt that the bulbs had broken because water had gotten into the housing with the bulbs.the housing was not cracked, so it was not due to an accident.and the bulbs on both sides had failed similarly which would indicate a common cause which would seem to be a design defect.this could have easily resulted in a serious accident.thanks to a stranger, i was informed about it before an accident occurred.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)malfunction on the headlight/foglight multifunction switch on a chrysler pt cruiser 2005, [xxx] (export vehicle, runs in brazi). It started unwittingly turning on the foglights even when the car ignition was off, it lead to drain car batteries and for me to think at first that was a problem with my battery, since when i saw the car the foglights were off because it drained the power. Then, after a hot day i was driving at night on a rainy and dangerous highway and my foglights went off and i felt a smell of burn cable and smoke inside the car, so i stopped the vehicle and saw smoke coming out ofthe multifunction switch and got really scared.after so many days and searching on the internet i finally discovered that the battery drain had to do with the foglights switch.i took almost 6 months to discover it and so my foglights reflector started to melt and loose there flexibility.i went to chrysler dealers in brazil and they said they cant do nothing for me since the car is no longer in warranty.the thing is, there is more than 550 complaints (and counting) on a website explaining the problem and what the many dangerous possible consequences. And 95% of the cars in those complaints are not under warranty from chrysler manufacture.now i actually run with the car without the fuse responsible to foglights. It cost me a brand new battery and 2 damaged foglight reflectors and the obligation of running without foglights on highways. (that are extremely dangerous without the proper illumination! http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chrysler-pt-cruiser/tf81khbdldvt92ah2.
Both brake lights failed at same time.this is the third time.bulbs receive major damage.major chance for rear end collision when bulbs blow.any other reports of this type?this is a big safety issue.
Fog lamps remain on when switch is in the off possition. This problem has been identified in many "pt" forums on the internet. The solution is the replacement of the multifunction switch that controls all the lights.
The fog lamps stay on even when the switch is in the "off" position. I have read many other owner's complaints of the same problem. This has resulted in my battery being drained twice.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. He stated that whenever the vehicle was driven, the headlights would become cloudy which made it difficult to see at night. The contact is concerned about the safety risk while driving at night. The dealer was contacted and they stated that there were no related recalls. The dealer confirmed that the headlights appear to be cloudy during the day since the sun reflects on the lens and that the plastic on the lights has deteriorated. The headlights have not been replaced. The failure mileage was 14 and the current mileage was 47000. Updated 02/17/10updated 02/17/10
Vehicle would not start, this has happened numerous times in the past. I have replaced the fuel pump relay and this has corrected the problem. In the past the vehicle did start with a jump or by cleaning the positive battery terminal.
The pt cruiser 2005 turbo was purchased new and currently has 68,296 miles. The vehicle has shut off on numerous occasions while we were driving. We immediately contacted cerritos dodge chrysler jeep (cerritos, ca) and glen e. Thomas (signal hill,ca}andboth serviced vehicle. The car just shut off, again without any warning. We are afraid to drive the vehicle on a regular basis, for fear of risking the lives of others and ourselves.
The fuel line/pressure regulator assembly has been replaced for the third time because the pressure regulator leaks, spraying gas on the firewall. Including the original part, this is now the fourth assembly in this vehicle. We have had the service performed at an independent facility, not chrysler, but the parts have been purchased form chrysler. My service tech says he replaces 50 or 60 of these per year. This isa potentially dangerous problem. When the assembly fails, the odor of gas permeates the inside of the vehicle and is very strong outside the vehicle.this vehicle only has 55000 miles on it and the first replacement was at about 40000 miles.

Fuel injector o rings come loose causing injectors to tap.
O rings on fuel injectors came off, causing injectors to tap. Chrysler will not touch it. They keep saying the injectors are supposed to tap! i went to 4 chrysler dealerships, and 3 said it`s normal, and one said they couldn't hear the tap. I went to 3other mechanics ( non chrysler) and they all said it`s not normal, and to get it fixed right away. But chrysler will not admit there`s anything wrong, and they refuse to fix it. Because of that, i have to get a different car! after the warranty runs out, i won`t be able to afford to fix the problem!i wouldn't recommend any chrysler product to anyone!
In 2006 i purchased a 2005 pt cruiser with 12000 miles, it ran great until may,2009with approx. 28000 miles, when it started spittering and sputtering upon acceleration and would not exceed a speed of 25 for 15 to 25 seconds, sometimes longer. I found this out on a 275 mile round trip up us hwy 40 after stopping to get gas. Upon reentry to hwy 40 with cars traveling 70-85 mph, my car just would not go. I felt my life as well as my husbands was in grave danger. I immediately put my flashers on and stayed on the shoulder of the road until it returned to normal speed. Then while going up hills, or stopped for red lights, stop sign or slowing down to yield, it would again, spitter & sputt and backfire. Upon my arrival back home i took it to my local chrysler dealer and was told it was in need of a tune up (atl ess than 20000 miles),and i was told by the dealer it was not covered by warranty, which i believed was a unlimited 5 yr/50,000 miles, costing in excess of $300.00/which i did not and do not have the funds to get repaired., but still feel this is a danger factor for anyone riding in it. (which i seldom have anyone with me except my husband occasionally.)the pt cruiser is still the same even though i have added gas treatments and fuel injector cleaners trying to resolve this severe, and potentially deadlyproblem.the car to date only has a little over 35000 miles and is still acting up, and the "check engine" light continues to stay on. I have taken the car to a trusted local mechanic who informed me that it is a tune up problem or the fuel injectors, and that it should have been covered under warranty that was still in effect at the time. (what is the warranty worth? (not life or limb.)i might add that if i hadknown of this web site or how to file a complaint when this first happened i would have. Thank you for your interest in the "peoples rights and safety."
Fuel line has begun leaking fuel every time you start the car. Have replaced fuel line and continues to leek. Searched on the internet and there is no real fix and chrysler plastic connection was a poor build making this an issue for almost every pt cruiser out there.

Purge control valve is faulty, causing vehicle to stall after fueling. Every. Single. Time. This occurs both at the pump immediately after fueling as well as when the car is in motion, pulling into traffic from the fuel station. The latter has caused safety hazards & near-accidents countless times.

There was no injuries sustained in the fire. The vehicle remained at the residence. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were contacted. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000. The vin was not available. Piir = y.ah *dt
Stalls out while driving, car completely stops and you can't go forward, have to put the car in park and back in drive multiple times in order to even be able to drive... Car completely shut off in the middle of a busy road...
In 2007 i was driving when i started hearing a knocking sound in my tires. I was had the vehicle checked immediately, but no determination was found. Over the year i was forced to replace my tires 3 times because they would wear and i would slide and the tires would skid in simple weather. In march of 2008 i had to repair more tires and my ball joints on both sides in the front with wheel alignments. Also in 2007 i started hearing a squealing sound in the engine, i had it checked immediately and was told my power steering pump would need replacing.but decreased once the mechanic put in power steering fluid. Since then even now i still hear the squeaking and every month i have to put in steering fluid. I called chrysler regarding recalls relating to these problems and was told no recalls were in effect. I have not received any info in 2008 regarding these recalls that i now see online. Also my automatic stick shift sticks especially when it's cold outside.i have almost hit something head on twice since december 2008 because it is hard to shift in park or neutral.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving approximately 60 mph the engine stalled and restarted. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer seven times but the technicians were unable to detect a trouble code during the diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified and they stated the failure was related to the power train wiring harness. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 63,278.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for state inspection when the contact was advised that the power train control module was programmed incorrectly and caused the on-board diagnostic system software to provide a fuel system reading. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure where they advised the dealer to perform a diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 105,000.
This is not the first incident. While driving the vechile will suddenly stop in the middle of the street. The temperature gage goes up and the car shuts off. Cause me and my family body to jerk back and forth. The car is stopped in the middle of the street. When the car shuts off there is no warning, therefore other vechiles almost crashes into the back of the pt cruiser. My children and i feels in safe.

In july 2014 noticed back window on passenger was loose, window fell out while driving 11 2014... Had times when car was acting like it wasn't getting gas while driving and check eng. Light came on but would go out after it quit. Finally made it to an auto repair to have it scanned and part replaced after 9 mos. Setting.ran good for one week then started acting up again doing the same thing.in august of 2015 i was approaching my home going down a big hill on my rd. Where the speed limit was 45 mph with a semi right behind me.the cars speed was 45 thenwent down to 20 in a matter of seconds fast enough for the tires to squeal. I had my 2 yr. Old grandson in the back seat when this happened. I knew i couldn't make it in my driveway so i immediately turned on my 4ways and pulled in my neighbors house across the street so i didn't get ran over by the semi truck. Also when i had the car repaired in june of 1915 the steering in the car was real stiff and still is only when turning but has power steering fluid.bought my own scanner and it says i now need to replace a trans. Control unit part # p0700 along with the part that was just replaced.i'm at wits end, would like to know if there are any recalls on any of these problems .please help me because i really need my car and feel right now it is a death trap and don't know where else to turn.
Shift lever gear control snapped backing out stuck in street would not shift into drive vehicle in motion
Dashboard lights go out at will and engine lights show codes even after replacing sensorsnow 02 sensors not working .look like this had been a ongoing problem for years now and chrysler fails to address the problem. Please help myself and other pt drivers having the same problem.
Transmission parking pall broke.after placing car in park and exiting vehicle, the car started to roll backwards.had to get car open quickly again and apply brake to keep vehicle from striking a person or another vehicle.
Car had shake in front through steering wheel and rt. Floorboard. Change tires and wheels. Changes tires twice. Replaced left front axle with single axle. Replaced same axle with two piece axle. Still has shake in it. Factory tech said live with it.
2005 pt cruiser (turbo) was taken to dealership for annual inspection and oil change. Inspection was not granted.vehicle was pronounced "unsafe to drive" as the bearings on the spindle (on axle) were destroyed and both front wheels were wobbling.mechanic said one or both wheels could come off.in the next bay was another pt cruiser (turbo) with the identical problem.the mechanics discussed whether the design was sufficient to support the power of the turbo.until the parts arrive (we have to pay the $600+ for them) we have a rental at the dealers suggestion and our cost.
Have a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser and only 45,000 miles on it. After feeling a bad vibration for a week or so and noises when making turns, i took my car back to where i had new tires put on thinking they had defective details to them. Come to find out that the front bearings are bad already. Thinking to myself that this shouldn't be happening in this early of mileage, i started looking into trying to replace them myself as the costs everywhere for this repair is too much for our family to bear right now. In looking for the diagrams for the front end, i came across this forum with 155 posts of the same complaint on this model car from 2001 to current models, including one post of a lady who lost her son in an accident due to this faulty part/assembly. I truely believe this warrants further review as it seems with so many of the same issue (and this is only what had been posted, not including people who had this issue and just keep paying for the repair over and over) it makes me question the quality of chrysler pt's for sure. Please review this as it may save someone's (including my own) life. Website for posts for your reference is http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chrysler-pt-cruiser/til09od8d72erulqa/p4
I have a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser and the middle seatbelt latch has become completely removed.i did not get in an accident the cause of this issue is unknown.yesterday the right rear seatbelt buckle broke as well.now i have one working belt in my back seat and two children.i am extremely dissatisfied and want to know what i can do about it.i have no confidence in the safety of this vehicle and i feel that seat belts should not malfunction let alone completely break for no reason.
Consumer's vehicle rear end another vehicle in front at 30 mph.driver's seat belt fail to hold the driver.driver sustained head and back injuries. Consumer's father transported him to the local hospital.dealer was notified.
No events leading to failure other than noticing the seat heaters seemed to put off more heat than other comparably equipped vehicles.seat heater burned through seat cover and seat cushion foam into a pillow that had slipped behind my daughters back.if it had not been for the pillow, my daughter would have had serious burn injuries as she was asleep at the time of the malfunction.so far chrysler has done nothing to correct the problem.the old parts are still in the vehicle.chrysler has inspected the vehicle and says the seat heater unit itself malfunctioned otherwise the system is normal.however, the drivers seat also reaches temperatures that will cause burns also.
I recently purchased this vehicle about 3 months back. I was driving from vegas back home to los angeles on the i-15 freeway. I was on the far left side of the freeway and just touched the brake pedal. It was rock hard. It just wouldn't press down. I somehow managed to not get into a collision at that speed and moved over to the right shoulder, waited for the car to slow down and then started pulling the emergency brakes slowly. The car slowed down and since the brakes wouldn't get pressed i had to turn off the engine on the drive mode. I called 911. The state trooper that came checked the car, sat on the driver seat nd drove the car a bit. He looked at me and said "i don't know how you survived this. There are no brakes in the car". He checked the coolant, brake fluid, oil and everything was good. I called aaa who towed my car back to vegas to fix it. That cost me $424. The repair guy who fixed the car said he has never seen something like this. The manifold from where the pipes are connected to the brakes has a metal elbow that connects the pipes to the manifold. That metal elbow fell off and he tried setting it back on but it just wouldn't stay. This is a factory defect since the metal elbows comes with the manifold and that is made at the chrysler factory. I took it to the dealer and he said the same thing. I called chrysler and they wouldn't help me since there was no collision and the part is not under warranty. I checked online and this has happened to others as well. There have been no recalls!
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving 40 mph, the brakes failed and the brake pedal became stiff.
When replacing front brake pads on my 2005 pt cruiser, turbo,i noticed one front rotor had excessive wear, so i needed to purchase two new rotors. I went to o'reilly's auto parts store, and they had everything in stock. After replacing one rotor, i attempted to install the brake pads into the brake pad bracket, but they wouldn't go over the new rotor. After comparing the old rotors to the new ones, i noticed the new ones were much thicker that the old rotors. I went back to o' reilly's with both set of rotors thinking they gave me the wrong rotors. At o' reilly's after looking through thier manuals, they told me that the rotors they gave me are the correct rotors. After further investigation it comes out that my 2005 turbo pt cruiser has non- turbo brake parts on it. The rotors, pads, and brake pad brackets are for a standard cruiser. I think chrysler should be notified, and install the all the correct brake parts that belong on my pt turbo.
I have achrysler 2005 pt cruiser. It has been the shop four times now for the same thing. On nov. 5, 2005 the brakes failed, the car acted like it was stuck in gear. It went to the shop by wrecker. I got the car back onnov 9, 2005 no problem was found with the car, was told it runs beautiful. On nov. 30, 2005 going home stopping in traffic the brakes failed again, almost hit a truck in front of me. It is right not setting at a chrysler dealership and they called me this morning and said the car is running fine and no problem was found. This car is very unsafe. I have rode around for a week with a co-pilot in it and nothing show up on that. I have lost over 100 miles per tank in gas mileage. No chrysler dealer can seem to find what is wrong with this car. What can i do.

Whether in motion or standing still, tilt steering wheel clamping mechanism has worn through wires connected to the air bag and its warning system, creating intermittent (short?) failure of air bag warning light, presenting possibility of sudden airbag deployment without warning.when air bag warning light is off, horn will not sound but ventilation fan runs.with airbag light on, horn will sound, but if activated, ventilation fan stops running.must constantly adjust steering wheeel tilt to make fan run or honk horn - creating a distracted driving hazard.
There is a clicking sound when the steering wheel is turn to either side. I had the power steering pressure switch replace twice and the rack and pinionreplace and the car still makes a clicking sound when the wheel is turn. Dealership replace the part and an individual mechanic has replace the same switch. To no avil , i'm having this problem.

The power steering system in general is faulty. We have paid to fix the power steering pressure switch & the high pressure power steering hose & now the pump itself has gone out. Would love to see this whole line of vehicles recalled. We were driving when all of these problems persisted & i know that our vehicle isn't the only one having this problem.
I began hearing a popping noise from the steering column at approximately 25000 miles.at 27000 miles, i took the vehicle to the dealer, who diagnosed the problem as a bad rack & pinion unit.the dealer replaced the unit under warranty.at 30000 miles, the noise returned. I returned to the dealer, who re-diagnosed the problem as a defective steering column.the dealer replaced the steering column under warranty.

The 2005 chrysler pt cruiser has metallic-silver dash inserts around the instrument cluster and covering the passenger air bag compartment.when the sun is high in the sky the glare from the metallic-silver instrument panel is blinding.the glare is so bright it leaves spots in your eyes.the molded curves above the instruments seem to concentrate the sun??s energy.my wife is shorter and is able to adjust the top of the steering wheel to block the reflection.i am unable to do this and still handle the steering wheel comfortably.i placed electrical tape on the panel just above the center instrument to block the glare.
2005 chrysler pt cruiser with speedometer problems**ccthe consumer was not able to read the speedometer during daylight hours. The consumer believed that the problem was due to the deep inset of the instrument.
I was driving down the highway and my rear right window flew off while going 55 mph.this is extremely unsafe!i had no idea the window was only glued on!i am curious if there are other people who have had this issue and what can be done.

I was driving on the highway 75 mph, at some point the side rear windowblew out , i heard the sound of a open window but could not figure out where it was coming from, i pulled over and noticed the window was gone. If there had been a motor cycle or another vehicle it could have caused an accident.

I own a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser with 40,000 miles on it.the warranty is up and i just found out that the front axle bearing is shot.my mechanic was very shocked to discover this on such a new car and said it was very unsafe.i am very upset with chrysler since i have come to find out that this is a chronic problem with the pt cruiser and happens on every model and year.i have read about many exact same complaints from owners of this vehicle.

At 23,021 miles my 2005 pt cruiser had the lower left control arm replaced (8/28/2007).seven months later, i experienced the same problem with the car (clunking noise when going over bumps). I took the car back to the dealer and they replaced the other lower control arm on 3/25/08 at 27834 miles. I had the front brakes replaced at 38,033 miles and at 60,349 miles. I have read many complaints in online forums from people with similar problems with this model and brake wear has been reported due to front wheel bearing issues. My car is now at 62,570 and i am having the same clunking noise in the front when hitting a bump along with a loud noise upon braking at high speeds. I am highly concerned about my safety in this vehicle now. Many people have reported the same issue. This is a safety and life threatening issue and chrysler nees to do something about this vehicle. Prior to this car, i owned a 2001 pt cruiser and had the control arms replaced in that car before 40000 miles. There has to be some defect with this vehicle.

I have owned a 2005 pt cruiser for only two months and it has only 53,000 miles on it. Today i found out that both the front wheel bearing have to be replaced and will cost 565.00. From what i am reading, this is a very common problem and maybe should be made a recall!! this could be very dangerous if not found and corrected. One of mine wasn't even making any noise but there was quite a bit of play in the tire. Very dangerous!
Front wheel bearings on bth sides failed after 40k miles, lower control arm bushings failed at 30k miles.
Vehicle front end and steering wheel vibrate at about 10-15 mph acceleration from a stopped or slowed position. Once accelerated beyond that speed, vibrations remain, but less intense. Vehicle will pull upon applying brakes, making it harder to control. Feels as if the vehicle front end and tires are "grinding into the pavement", this at street speeds of 35-40 mph. Had tire pressure checked on all four tires and pressure was as suggested by manufacturer. Had brakes checked at dealer and they stated they could find no problem with the brakes, "the brakes are fine." this vehicle has less than 15,000 miles. If chrysler/fiat dealers cannot pinpoint the causes of these defects/problems and fix them (at no cost their customer) once and for all, then who? these problems pose serious safety concerns, and recalls should be issued. With these problems unresolved, there is little enjoyment in driving this vehicle.
Tl * the contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving atapproximately 40 mph, the driver experienced vibration from the front end of the vehicle which was caused by defective control arm bushings. He experienced the failure on three different occasions and took the vehicle to the dealership three times to have the bushings repaired. However, the contact still experienced the problem even after the three repairs. The current and failure mileages were approximately 51,000.updated 6/21/10 updated 07/19/10
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser.while performing an oil change, the mechanic discovered that the front wheel bearing needed to be replaced.the current and failure mileages were 27,150.
My 2005 pt cruiser started making noticeable noises from the front right side.the dealer has now told us that the right and left front wheel bearings have to be replaced.i don't know the actual mileage, but i believe that it is less than 60,000 miles.there is a previous complaint on the nhtsa database for the same model year, for the same front bearing issue, but i did not check other years.while researching online to see if others have had similar problems, i found the following link which contains many incidences of pt cruiser front bearing failures with relatively low mileage:http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chrysler-pt-cruiser/til09od8d72erulqa
Car only has appx 55,000 miles - brought car in for oil change and to fix slow leak in tire, was advised that front wheel bearing has to be replaced.this is a part that supposedly should get at least 85k worth of use before replacement and is part of a completely sealed system in the pt, so this is a rather dangerous and expensive ($400) repair for such a "young" car.
Vibration in rear end of vehicle; vehicle drifts to right; excessive/uneven tire wear since new.
Car had shake in front through steering wheel and rt. Floorboard. Change tires and wheels. Changes tires twice. Replaced left front axle with single axle. Replaced same axle with two piece axle. Still has shake in it. Factory tech said live with it.
While driving in the rain vehicle hydro planed, crashing into a bus. When explaining to manufacturer whathappened, she was told that the vehicle had incorrect tires for the rain.
My car caught on fire
Dashboard lights go out at will and engine lights show codes even after replacing sensorsnow 02 sensors not working .look like this had been a ongoing problem for years now and chrysler fails to address the problem. Please help myself and other pt drivers having the same problem.
I bought my car in june of 2006, and when i was driving and had to brake whether it was a quick braking or normal braking anything on the floor like a cheezit box or water bottle, or any nylon clothing(gymrunning pant) went under my seat and under my brake pedal and 2 out the 3 times i almost wrecked. I have had the last straw this week when i stopped at a light normal braking and my rain jacket along with my water bottle rolled under my seat and i could stop my car for all of the stuff under my pedal again. Pt cruisers need a recall a drawer or something should be put under the seat to stop articles in the back seat from going to the front.
Windows on car will not work after having it repaired 8 months ago 2nd. Time it has happened since we had it.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and caused the speed to increase to approximately 85 mph.also, the contact indicated that the brakes malfunctioned and the vehicle would not stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,293.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the accelerator failed with the illumination of the check engine warning light. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
My car has only about 1,500 miles on it, and it usually drives beautifully, but today i slowed down (from about 35 mph) to make a right turn at a light and the brakes seemed soft somehow, then i had to come to a complete stop at a four-way stop about two blocks further along and it was hard to stop and i could hear the engine racing. In fact the car jumped out into the intersection a little waysafter it stopped. I looked this up and read about sudden unintended acceleration and i can say that i did not have my foot on the accelerator (if i had, the car obviously would not have stopped -- it jumped forward after i'd had to push the brake to the floor, and the engine was racing madly even after i looked to see if for some reason the gas pedal was stuck and shifted out of desperation into park). I believe that the throttle malfunctioned for some reason and i will take the car to a dealer the day after tomorrow.
I was driving my car and it began to chug and jerk. I thought it was bad gas and called a friend.the next morning out of the blue it began to self accelerate. I tried to hit the gas to see if it was stuck, hit the cruise on/off, applied the brakes - nothing.it was going 60 mph by itself. I flew thru stop signs, unable to stop the car, nothing worked.i could have been killed. I eventually put it in neutral and turned off the key and had it towed.the hard plastic cover that covers the accelerator had broken off and lodged itself on top of the accelerator, making the car accelerate even when no gas was applied.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. While driving 40 mph, the brakes failed and the brake pedal became stiff. After removing pressure from the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000. The vin was not available.
Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle was stopping after driving 10 mph through a parking lot with brake pressure applied, the vehicle lurched forward into a concrete pillar and the front airbags did not deploy.the contact was wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries.moderate damage was sustained to the front of the vehicle.the police were on the scene and a report was taken.the vehicle was towed to a dealer who was unable to determine a failure or defect.the manufacturer was alerted.updated 09/15/06. I am writing to ask has there have been any reports of the 2002 pt cruiser having an acceleration problem?on 11/30/2005 as i was making a u-turnwhen my car accelerated at a high rate of speed that caused me to hit a curb and blew out my right front tire,it also left me in a disoriented state of mind.i had no control over that car until it hit the curb. Please at your earliest convenience can you let me know if there has been other reports of this.
I lost control of the pt cruiser accelerator pedal and could not control the speed of the vehicle.i had to ride the brake with both feet.the engine rpm went over 4000 rpm.when i came home, i needed all my strength to move shift into park while keeping both feet on the brake pedal.the vehicle was in motion. I was entering a rotary.
-the contact stated that while drivingon a secondary roadthe05 chrysler pt cruiser accelerated from 30 mph to 90 mph.the contact believed that the turbo on the vehicle engaged.thecontact pressed on the brakes and kicked the accelerator pedal at the same time, once the vehicle started to decrease in speed he turned the vehicle off.he had the vehicle towed to adealership.the failure and current mileage were both 23800.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the rear driver side window detached from the seaming. I own a 2005 pt cruiser. Two months ago, the wipers suddenly stopped working. Mechanic identified problem as a faulty intermittent wiper switch that needed to be replaced and had to be ordered through chrysler. The vehicle in unsafe to operate without wipers because we live in florida where it is now rainy season and it rains nearly every day. The mechanic could not get the part despite many calls to chrysler, and we contacted every dealer/junkyard in the state of florida trying to get either a new oraftermarket part with no luck. We now have no way to get to work, and if we do drive to work, we get stuck often sitting by the side of the road if/when it rains because we cannot drive without wipers. We contacted chrysler corporate a few days ago after getting the runaround from dealers for two months, and learned there are several hundred backorders for this very same part all with owners whose wipers don't function! ! this is a health, safety and hazardous issues, particularly for customers in tropic climate in southeastern u.s. Where rainy season lasts four months! the part number is 5019-710aa. How can chrysler be allowed to deny owners the ability to fully enjoy their cars by failing to provide parts for a late model car? this car has only 50,000 miles on it, and i need it to drive 54 miles to work each day, and can no longer get to work because chrysler cannot get and won't make the part, and has steadfastly refused to get me a loaner car until they figure out how to fill my order and the backorder for this wiper part for hundreds of other consumers across the country who have chryslers that can't be driven because they can't use the wipers!
I was driving down the highway and my rear right window flew off while going 55 mph.this is extremely unsafe!i had no idea the window was only glued on!i am curious if there are other people who have had this issue and what can be done.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that when driving approximately 70 mph with all the windows closed, the rear passenger quarter side window suddenly exploded. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer and they advised him that the window needed to be replaced due to the sealant not holding. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were approximately 28,000.
Rear quarter window is popping out, it is leaking and has a gap align the top i have duct taped it in place to prevent it from coming out
I was driving on the highway 75 mph, at some point the side rear windowblew out , i heard the sound of a open window but could not figure out where it was coming from, i pulled over and noticed the window was gone. If there had been a motor cycle or another vehicle it could have caused an accident.
While driving yesterday, the left rear quarter window fell out. Chrysler had a recall no. G01 for this problem, and i was told by the chrysler rep that the windows on this vehicle had been replaced under the recall and they could do nothing for me. The repair was not done properly or the window would have not separated from the vehicle, as vehicles should not have windows falling out of them driving down the road. I feel that chrysler did not properly address this safety issue.note: i am an agent for the vehicle owner, she is an elderly person residing in assisted living.her name is [xxx] .information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
While driving down interstate 95 the left rear quarter window separated from my car. I very thankful another car was not following closing. That would have been ugly. Chrysler had a previous recall on this problem but they said my vin was not included in the recall. Reference: nhtsa identification number 07v-149.

Leather boot for cover of convertible top damaged inside at time of purchase, ordered new one from dealer and received another damaged one.chrysler says all of them are like that, and will not replace it again!
The windshield of my 2 year old pt cruiser has a very large crack which is getting bigger every day. The cooling system failed and the vehicle overheated after driving a few miles. I have a 2005 pt crusier turbo and i recently had one of my tires go flat with no puncture or damage to the tire.i replaced the tire and in two weeks the new tire went flat, again no apparent damage.i took it back to the tire store, they said that the tire was fine, however the inside of the rim was peeling off and the seal that is formed could not hold due this peeling of the coating on the rim.i asked for a new tire, they agreed and it held for about three weeks, however when the weather got extremely cold, the tire went flat over night again with no damage.the rims are defective according to the tire dealer.
I own a 2005 pt cruiser turbo.have had continuing problems with the air leaking out of the tires.finally, was told the rims had a coating problem that eroded so they don't seal properly.had to buy 4 new rims.sounds like a manufacturing defect to me since the tire company said this was common on the pt cruiser.
The tire on my 2005 pt cruiser was flat and when i went to get it fixed was told that the tire was fine but the finish was coming off the rim and this caused the tire to go flat. I went to a national automotive repair chain to get it fixed. I was told that they could put a type of sealant around the tire so it would not go flat. They could not guarantee it would not go flat as they stated this was a common problem for pt cruisers. I have talked to other pt cruiser owners and looked on the internet in regards to this and found that indeed, this is a very common problem with this particular car model. I feel that this is a defect and that the company should replace the rims before a tire or tires go flat while driving the car. I was fortunate as the car was parked. But to be stuck in winter with the possibility of having multiple flats while driving is a very risky venture for me as well as the public. I would appreciate having this matter looked into and what my future options are in regard to my pt cruiser.
Pt cruiser 2005, from wheel bearing are defective.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph when one of the tires became flat. The contact could not recall which exact tire was flat because the failure because the failure recurred approximately twelve times and each time, it was a different tire that experienced the failure.the vehicle was taken to and independent mechanic where the contact was advised that the front and rear driver and passenger side rims were corroded and pitted. The rims were cleaned but the mechanic advised that air would continue to escape from the rim and cause the tire to go flat. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
The contact owns a 2005 pt cruiser. While driving 35 mph the front end of the vehicle elevated up and down.the contact stopped the vehicle and noticed that the driver side tire was separated from the wheel. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who located the failure due to the wheel hub steal band speared causing the tire to fail. The dealer replaced the wheel hub band and tire. On october 31, 2010 the right wheel hub steel band, bolts, and bearing separated causing damage to the tire, front and rear fender. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who replaced the right wheel hub, steal band, bolts, bearing and tire. The manufacturer will be contacted. The failure mileage was 22,000 and the current mileage was 40,000.
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser. The contact stated that the chrome wheels were flaking. As a result, the air pressure was seeping out and causing the tires to go flat. The contact stated that he had to replace the tires a total of seven times. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the problem was not with the tires but with the rim itself. The manufacturer was made aware of failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and current mileage was 91,000.
Front tires keep going flat and i am told because car heavy in front.i air them once every 2-4 weeks.front lamps are not strong enough and hard seeing at night.car purchased from bellevue, wa ford which just burned down few weeks ago as a used car and was not informed of this
The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser.the contact was having new tires installed on her vehicle when one of the lug nuts suddenly came off the front passenger side tire.the other three lug nuts were found to be extremely loose.the mechanic stated that this was a very common issue with the pt cruisers and recommended not to drive the vehicle because a tire could fall off at any moment.the contact believes that a recall should be issued since this was a common failure.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current and failure mileages were 75,000.
The rims on my 2005 pt cruiser (22,000miles) need to be replaced due to leaks. I have been told by a goodyear dealer that many chrome rims are corroded. I also have heard from other pt owners that they had to replace their rims. Has there been a problem/recall?
