The problem i have been having with the air bag light of my 2005 pt convertible cruiser has been going on for 7 years and 6 attempts to fix it.chrysler customer care service has authorizedthe napleton dealership in lake park, florida, to fix the problem with the air bag light twice: once in september 2012, and most recently in may 2014.the service department performs the same replacement of the harness buckle apparatus each time, but that is clearly not the underlying reason that the air bag light comes on after every attempt to fix it. After the fourth attempt to fix it failed by a different dealership in tallahassee, florida, it was suggested that the underlying problem was probably with the entire wiring system of the car, but during the 5th and 6th attempts to repair the air bag light, the dealership did not seem willing to look into this and ended doing the exact same repair that has been attempted for 7 years.meanwhile i have been told that the car is not safe to drive when the air bag light is on.

Car stop at red light hit from behind by 2016car driven by girl just got liscensecar was driven into a ulitey truck air bag never engaged was hit with enough force to send truck forwardabout 2 feet

The contact owned a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser convertible. While driving at various speeds, the contact's vehicle was rear ended by a commercial vehicle. As a result, the contact lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle did a nose dive and flipped several times before coming to a stop. Some of the vehicle's occupants were ejected and others were stuck in the vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact and two other occupants sustained injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 41,000. The vin was not available. Updated 06/15/16*lj

Vehicle air bag light flashes on and off when a person around 75-150lbs sits in the passenger seat.this happens at any speed.occasionally the airbag light will work normally; issue seems to be related to whether the seat is occupied when the engine is started, or occupied after the engine is started.many others on pt cruiser forums report similar symptoms.

My daughter was driving a 2005 pt cruiser convertible and was involved in a frontal crash at freeway speed. She was restrained by her seatbelt, yet her airbag did not deploy. I am the owner of the car and i am very concerned since she was injured and the car totaled and yet no airbag. I am concerned as to why the bag did not deploy.

Engine lite came on. Replaced recommended parts. Lite came off and on over a year or so with same diagnostic. Replaced same part in late 2013 and lite still stays on. I am told now it is the computer itself. Have been told this is a common problem for pt cruiser owners and that many replace the same parts i did and it is to no avail. To my best of recall it is the upper/in lower/out oxygen 2 sensor. With the computer (engine lite) causing this problem chrysler should have a recall on it.

Car went completely dead at car wash at night leaving me and my young granddaughter stranded until we could get a jump.this happened several times with the battery not having any problems nor any lights being left on in interior.happened to notice the other day the fog lamps were on but the switch was not turned on. It was draining the system.hadto pull the fuse to fog lamps in order to stop the drainage. This has left me stranded with small children forcing reliance upon strangers in order to restart the vehicle, on more than one occasion. Now the fog lamps are inoperative until a fix can be found, which could lead to a potential collision if driving in foggy conditions which could prove fatal due to it being a convertible. I have been having trouble with my p.t. Cruiser with problem starting. It has gone on for many years. I was looking for information on any recalls. It was said it was the starter, but the problem continued sporadically. I still do not know what the problem is. The car wont start but there is connection with the battery. I have been told its the manufactures alarm having a kill switch, that it may be electrical, the fog lights do not turn off unless the fuse is pulled and it drains my battery. The dealer i bought it from went out of business. I want to know if chrysler has had any issues with this type of car.since they are not making them anymore.

Date:january 9, 2012current case file #[xxx]; previous case file #[xxx].to date, chrysler dealerships have not been able to diagnose and consequently fix a recurring stalling problem with the above referenced vehicle; a problem that first occurred in october of 2010.the mckinney dealership in easley, scfirst attempted a fix, then the big o dealership in greenville, sc (twice), and most recently the benson dealership in greer, sc.overall, the vehicle has been out of service 3 weeks and 2 days while at these dealerships.mckinney's attempt occurred while the vehicle was under the chrysler extended warranty.big o and benson's attempts have been made after the expiration of the warranty (from time, not mileage), as a follow up to a pre-existing condition.meanwhile, between attempted fixes the vehicle poses a safety hazard, actually putting chrysler at a liability risk.a stalling vehicle in heavy, fast moving traffic has a high potential of creating an accident, an injury, or even a death.in reality a very serious accident almost occurred recently on interstate 26 in hendersonville, nc as a tractor trailer was following the vehicle when it went into a stall.fortunately, the shoulder of the highway gave an escape route from being run down.wide shoulders are not always available for escape.additionally, within the time frame beginning in 2010, we have not been offered an opportunity to speak with a chrysler area representative and have not had the best co-operation from the chrysler case managers in auburn hill, mi.without chrysler offering the options of fixing , trading or buying back the vehicle, we must exercise other options available to us.note:this vehicle was purchased new and i have been the only owner.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Car intermittently will not start.we had the car towed so many times that the insurance rate went up and we paid for repairs that we did not need because it never fixed the problem.repairs include (battery, starter, ignition, spark plugs and wires)we now believe that the problem is the tipm.the other problems we encountered are window won't go up or down.dealerships do not know how to diagnose the problem so they continue to charge us for unneccesary repairs.

At first the engine surges after car stops at intersection. Slightly at first and then occurrence increases at subsequent stops with greater surge. Then engine surges and dies at stops until engine dies and will not restart. The last time the engine died at 45 mph and would not restart until the following morning. Took car to a chrysler dealership for repair and dealer cannot locate the problem.the car is a safety hazard to the driver and passengers, as you can never tell where or when the car is going to quit running.

Fog lamps intermittent on and off with switch off. Drained battery and shorted fuse.

2005 pt cruiser convertible fog lights came onwhile the vehicle was stopped and parked in parking lot.came back 1 hour later and the battery was dead.had no phone and had to walk 4 blocks in a dark vacant, "scary part of town" by myself.called bcaa and they came out to give me a boost.the tech told me this is a rampant problem with these cars.

My chrysler 2005 pt cruiser, bought in may of this year, suddenly loses its power while i am driving (twice on the highway). This loss of power resulted in my nearly being in a rear end collision from a truck coming up behind me!it has been towed to 2 chrysler dealers on 3 separate occasions. They cannot identify or fix the problem although it has had two additional failures documented by them. This last time they have had my car for over two weeks. It has a serious driveability issue. They have already replaced several parts including the entire onboard computer prior tothis most recent breakdown.this should not happen to a new car and chrysler customer service took the information over a week ago has not gotten back to me.

Approximately 3 -4 months ago i took my car to the mechanic because the airbag light was intermittently coming on.a complete diagnostic was completed and the mechanic determined that "nothing is wrong with it."a week later the problem continued and the battery light became coming on.about a week after that, i was traveling about 40 mph when all of the lights (battery, traction off, abs, brake, airbag, oil, etc) came on and began flashing at different intervals.my headlights and dashlights also began to flicker before the car died and would not restart.i had purchased a new battery just weeks prior, so this was not the problem.i again towed the car to the shop where i was again told that there were no problems. I've been driving the car for two weeks and trying to ignore the battery and airbag lights flashing.last night while traveling on a major road at 50 mph, the car's lights again began flashing, the automatic transmission would not shift, and the car eventually died and would not restart.the car was towed home and after sitting for an hour, it restarted, but the lights were still flickering.

2005 pt cruiser multifunction switch failed . Fog lights would not go off even after i removed the key. Smoke came out of switch.

Chrysler 2005 pt cruiser convertible. Defective multifunction control switch. (turn signal, headlight, fog light lever). Causes fog lights to stay on even when the ignition is off, draining battery on a consistent basis. For now only way to remedy problem is to pull the fuse for the fog lamps. Cannot find a replacement part.dealer says they ordered 50 replacement parts over 4 months ago, nationwide over 3000 are back-ordered, so chrysler obviously knows they have a problem.

We own a 2005 pt cruiser convertible and have had problems for the past year with the multifunction switch located on the steering column. The fog lights come on by themselves and will drain the battery dead. There must be a short in the steering column which is causing this problem. We turn our left blinker on before we shut off the ignition and this seems to keep the fog lights off. With this being a short, it could result in a fire which may cause an accident while driving - resulting in possible death. My expectations are high for the service that the nhtsa performs and i anticipate their action on this well known issue to be coming soon.

My '05 chrysler pt cruiser (that i bought 3 months ago!) has started to not start on me. I will come out from work, and it is completely dead. Battery completely drained. I get a jump, and it will run, but is then sluggish at first.this has happened now at least 3 x a week for a month. I have replaced the battery, and was told by chrysler that it is the alternator, but i went to two other mechanics for confirmation and both told me it is not the alternator. This means the dealership i was at pretty much had no clue, or didn't want to admit the issue.i have since looked around, and i see on blogs that this is a recurring issue for many other pt cruiser owners. I just want mine fixed.

Left work to find the battery was dead.got it jumped and went home.when i turned the car off and removed the key, i noticed that the fog light indicator light remained on.i checked the lights and found that they were still on.i turnedthe lights on, signaled left and right, jiggled it around and the indicator light finally went off.after a couple more occasions of battery dying (at this point the fog light randomly stayed on) eventually i figured out that if i left the light controlled in the left turn signal position when i turned off the car the fogs would turn off.this was the only way they would turn off.at some point we replaced the fuse, but the problem continued to occur off and on.other electrical issues have occurred as well.the passenger side windows no longer go up or down.this is especially problematic because it is a convertible and the windows move up and down an inch or so whenever the door is opened and closed in order to seal shut.rain comes into the gap between the window and roof because the window no longer seals shut.i haven't even tried to put the top down in a couple years for fear that i will not go back up, so i don't even know if that works.living in the city of atlanta, i am required to get an emissions test done each year in order to renew my registration.due to the battery dying, i failed the emissions test because the computer system did not have enough mileage to show necessary data.i truly regret the purchase of this car!

I have had problems with this car more than any other new vehicle i've owned.i had ac compressor problems still under warranty... I replaced the alternator and battery at 36700 miles.now, both front wheel hub and bearing assemblies are shot, and will be replaced at 43,000 miles.i bought this car new, and it is my 3rd and last chrysler product.i had an 2002 pt, this 2005 cruiser, and i've got an 2006 cruiser that is starting to show signs of wheel bearing issues.

My 2005 chrysler pt cruisers horn is not loud enough .the dealership said that is the way the horn is . Chrysler failed to add the second tone horn on this vehicle . They only put the low tone horn in these cars . Many times i have used my horn to warn other vehicles of a potential accident , only to have them ignore my weak horn . I have had to take evasive action to avoid these accidents .

The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser convertible. The contact stated the vehicle was idle. However, there were times when she approached a stop sign when the vehicle began to surge and stall without warning. The vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was being driven. The vehicle was taken to both an authorized dealer and an independent mechanic a total of four times. The technician informed the contact that the engine would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the engine no longer being produced by the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.

2005 chrysler pt cruiser engine light flashed and car stalled while driving. The engine light illuminated on 3 separate occasions. Several repairs were made, but the consumer continued to experience problems.

Going over a speed bump my underbody scrapped the bump. When i got home i had a small amount of radiator fluid under my car the next morning. A few days later there was still small amounts of liquid under my car. Jack furriers repair shop said the oil cooler was damaged and had a small hole from the fins being bent. Repair is quite expensive because chrysler haschanged the styling of the part and it has to be replaced with the new part. The new part i was told would be being put in the place where it should have been put in the first place to be safer from the types of damages i got. Should be a recall covered repair. The car could overheat and cause other problems.

I am so unhappy with this car, it has given me nothing but headaches. I have had front endbearing problems to electrical, but the worst problem is the one i have right now. My car is at the dealership as we speak, and i am being told that chrysler may not cover this problem. The car has various leaks, the oil has leaked into the spark plugs, and other areas that they are not certain off, they suggested one is coming from the head gasket a part of the engine. The problems started about six months ago, first it wanted to stop on me at every light, second the engine light went on, third the oil light. I would take it to mechanics and they could not find the problem, it was getting worse and i would replace parts that were going bad, but still the problem was there. When i went to chrysler dealership they told me we can't see the problem, but i told them that i would not leave until they found the problem.i am waiting the status on this matter from chrysler extended warranty. I suggest you recall this car, it has some serious issues relating to the engine, my perspective of this vehicle is the life span lasts 70,000,mile because the problems.get worse.

2005 pt cruiser overheats when idlinghave spent 700.00 dollars and they cant find the problemsee online there are many people with this problem.

Dt: the contact states while traveling at50-55 mph the vehiclestalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, they stated the problem was with the turbo and it was repaired. However, the vehicle was flooded by hurricane wilma and was totaled.

My pt cruiser since i have owned it burns oil prior to 3,000 miles due oil change. Chrysler claims "it is normal for this car to burn 1 quart of oil every 1,000. Miles. They refuse to check in between oil changes that this is in fact happening.

In december 2007, while on an extended trip, the fog light on my 2005 pt cruiser activated themselves and could not be turned off. The entire control lever on the steering column had to be replaced when we returned home.

I own a 2005 pt cruiser convertible. I have had problems for the past year with the multifunction switch located on the steering column. The fog lights will not turn on as the switch is broken and sometimes there is visible smoke coming out of the column followed by the stench of burning rubber. I researched and found out this is a common problem with this make and model of car. The following link is a webpage devoted to the problem with the multifunction switch and will give you an idea of how many people this is effecting. Chrysler is aware of the problem as the part has been on back order. I have not gotten the part fixed as i see this as something that needs to be recalled and fixed at the cost of chrysler. In the website you can see over 800 people with this same problem. There have been active posts since 2005.http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chrysler-pt-cruiser/tf81khbdldvt92ah2.

The multifunction light switch causes the fog lights to turn on and off at random, even when ignition is off. Issue happens at all speeds.

Fog lamps intermittent on and off with switch off. Drained battery and shorted fuse.

2005 pt cruiser gt convertible with 50,000 miles.i looked out the window and noticed fog lights on. The fog lights cannot be turned on without the headlights being on. But here was the fog lights on and it drained my battery completely. The only way i could turn the fog lights off was to tape the universal switch, so that the fog light switch was forced to close.after see how many people have had the same problem for several years, i am wondering why the nhtsa doesn't do something about this.

After refueling gague still reads empty ,never know how much fuel you have, dealer had car for seven days to run tests could not find the problem so they changed instrement cluster this only lasted 4 on&off cycles and back to same problem

With only 21,000 miles my 2005 pt cruiser convertible base model experienced a failure of the manual clutch assembly. I had driven about 100 miles of open highway and was entering a more urban setting with frequent stops and starts due to traffic lights. After about the 5th or 6th light my gear shift lever would move but the car would not go into any gear. Luckily i had roadside assistance and was able to have the vehicle towed to a chrysler dealership in savannah ga. It took 3 days to complete the repairs because the entire clutch assembly and housing had to be replaced. Although a manual clutch is classed as a "consumable" part chrysler agreed to sharing half the replacement cost for the parts due to a mechanical failure. I drove my first pt cruiser ( an early production 2001 model ) over 86,000 miles and never had a clutch problem. I am now 18,000 miles into the life of the replacement clutch with no signs of any problems.

The contact owns a 2005 pt cruiser turbo convertible.the contact stated that the vehicle caught fire, while the vehicle was turned off.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure.the fire department filed a report and diagnosed that the seat heater ignited the fire.the vehicle was destroyed.the failure and current mileage was 65,000. The vin was unavailable.

My 2005 pt cruiser is equipped with anti-lock brakes and a traction control system.during a recent snow storm the indicator lights for both of these systmes illuminated.i have just returned from my local chrysler dealer, who has informed that the lights came on because these systems were not functioning.the reason for this, they believe, is that snow had collected in the wheels.as i understand it, their posistion is that the anti-lock brakes and traction control systems provided on this car will function except during a snow storm with wet, stick, slippery snow.is this typical of these types of systems?it makes no sense to me that car companies be allowed to provide safetysystems which don't work when they are most likely to be needed. By the way, i live in new hampshire.we get snow regularly.it is frequently wet and sticky.

Took 2005 pt convertible for oil change, mechanic informed me i was very low on power steering fluid, he refilled it.gradually began noticing whining/groaning sound when turning, the tighter the turn the worse the sound.sound increasingly became more frequent.returned to mechanic (a different one) and he said i was out of steering fluid.i informed him that it had been filled about a month ago.going from memory here...he checked for leak and found none, and refilled.problem continued to increase until the power steering stopped completely and i could barely turn the car.returned to previous mechanic to find that the hose had popped off.he reattached.a couple months later when turning left i heard an odd sound, can't really describe.within a week the groaning was back, hose had popped off again, and fluid ran out in a matter of days.the mechanic again reattached and said something about the way the equipment is arranged under the hood, causes something to rub against the power steering hose, causing it to detach.this ordeal was repeated 3 times within about a year.i was finally able to pin down the type of movement that caused the hose to come off...turning left while at an incline or decline.through-out all this (i am not good with cars and am a girl) i ended up needing to replace the steering column.i wish i had thought to check into this sooner as i see this is not an isolated problem.

In december 2007, while on an extended trip, the fog light on my 2005 pt cruiser activated themselves and could not be turned off. The entire control lever on the steering column had to be replaced when we returned home.

The contact owns a 2005 chrysler pt cruiser convertible. While driving various speeds, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned and caused the steering wheel to become very difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the power steering hose was faulty and caused the power steering fluid to leak out. The vehicle was repaired. The local dealer (jeff wyler chrysler, 1117 state rt. 32, batavia, oh) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.

A hole was made in the power steering line. All the fluid dumped out. I was driving forward and suddenly it was very difficult to steer. The line should not be run like that. I attempted to put in more fluid and it all just poured right out!

I have been having trouble with my p.t. Cruiser with problem starting. It has gone on for many years. I was looking for information on any recalls. The car sits too low to the ground.i am a cautious driver, but the bumper too easily scrapes when driving over bumps or slightly steep inclines/declines, as well as when parking, too easily to scrape over curbs.this has caused the bumper to crack on the left side, over the head light, completely detached from the car in along a 6 inch line. There is no way to fix without replacing the whole bumper/grill cover.i am in constant fear of the bumper falling off as i struggle to save enough money to replace.i truly regret purchasing this vehicle!

2005 pt cruiser convertible 5 spd manual.have been very unsatisfied w/ car's performance.bearings in both front axles had to be replaced at 61,000 miles b/c of significant wear, making car unsafe to drive.right front wheel squeaked when i turned or just drove straight, and started making thumping noise in axle as i drove.also, roof has a minor leak into trunk when it rains hard; cannot find the source where it is leaking.

My pt cruiser convertible started making a thumping noise when i would turn. The noise would come from the front passenger side. Limped it to les schwab and was told i needed to replace struts and some plate thing that goes on top. I will have to $750.00 out of pocket. I have read numerous complaints and believe this should be a recall.

Heard thumping noise on right passenger side and new tires wore out prematurely.mechanic investigated and found front end sealed bearings were completely shot.since car is no longer under warranty it cost us $800 to repair.based on the other complaints we have found, this seems to be a recurring problem with this model and should be subject to recall.

Our previous speed had been about 60 mph.this car has had regular maintenance had been serviced at the chrysler dealer with in the past three months.

While driving felt like car was going over mini-speed bumps.took it to tire store and found out it wasn't the tires and they recommended the dealership.at the dealership they informed me it was the left-front bearing and i shouldn't be driving on it at all because the wheel could fall off.had it repaired there.picked up vehicle a week later and steering still didn't feel right.took it back and they determined that the right front knuckle needed repaired.also had it done there because i was visiting from out of town and needed work completed to get back home.less than 9 mths later and car sounds like an airplane.living on different coast so went to a recommended mechanic.informed left front bearing needs repaired.

The plastic used for the windshield washer nozzles on the chrysler pt cruiser gt model is not correct for the application, in that the extra heat under the hood from the turbo charger causes the plastic to become weak and crumble, which results in windshield washer fluid leaking down on top of an electrical panel located on the firewall of the drivers side of the vehicle, which ultimately results in a safety hazard.

Rolling down the back passenger window on my 2005 pt cruiser convertible 2-dr while the front window is up causes the insulating strip between the windows to slide off the back window and stick in the window mount.i asked the dealership to evaluate the problem, and they said the windows were out of adjustment which caused the seal to stick, and suggested if i didn't want to pay $500.00 to fix it i could put adhesive on it.i have a fear if my children shut the door hard the front window will break from slamming against the exposed metal on the side of the back window.

I have a 2005 pt cruiser turbo convertible with factory 17" chrome wheels. The chrome is flaking off of inside of wheel rims prevents tire from gripping proper seal. Tires repeatedly go flat while parked and while driving. Have replaced all four tires with new ones and had tires cleaned, re-mounted & resealed multiple times. Three different tire professionals tell me it is a factor defect.tire blew out while driving last week and i almost lost control. Online, i have found several other pt cruiser owners with the same problem. I have made the dealership and doug betts (chrysler vp of customer relations) aware of the problem but they refuse to correct it. This is a safety issue, especially since it is not an isolated incident. I can provide additional information if needed and cite online resources where i saw others complain of same issue. I have been dealing with this problem personally since feb. 2010.

Wheels on car are defective, flake and tires will not hold air . Bought the car in december, 2012 with -53,000 miles on it. After researching, i found this is common with the 2005 pt cruiser's. I own a 2011 chrysler product and 2005 pt cruiser and they refuse to replace the wheels. Said wheels are $884/per wheel+60 labor/per wheel+tax. Went to ceo of chrysler. Corporate office called, acted like they were going to help, then backed out. Cost to replace my wheels/tires today (cheapest i can get is $1,600.00). Two of many complaints on internet: contact owns 2005 chrysler pt cruiser and stated that the chrome wheels were flaking. As a result, the air pressure was seeping out and causing the tires to go flat. Contact stated he had to replace the tires a total of 7 times. Vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed problem was not with the tires but with the rim itself. Manufacturer was made aware of failure, offered no assistance and vehicle was not repaired.failure mileage was 65,000 and current mileage was 91,000.
