The clockspring on this model is defective and needs to be replaced. After trying to order the part for repairs from numerous distributors and dealers, it was determined that chrysler has not released an order to make and distribute the part! this is going on over 2 years for our vehicle and possibly longer for other owners of the same model.this part is vital to the safety of the driver, it's passengers and the operation of the vehicle, because it controls the airbag, turn signals and horn!!! the vehicle is unsafe in this condition and posses a possible risk to the driver and passengers in the event of an accident. I was backing out of my parking turning my squeaky steering wheel and the air bag light came on. I have almost had several accidents because then my horn stopped when the air bag light came on. So i checked the cruise control that don't work either now none of the buttons behind the steering wheel work. I did my research and it seems it's the clockscrew!! how do i get this part????

The air bag light comes on and stays on while consumer after the vehicle has been started.

Airbag clock spring defect! how many complaints need to filed before nhtsa responds to a major safety issue and investigates this for a possible recall? according to their guide lines, there is no specific number. Maybe they should consider all other vehicles manufactured by chrysler in 2001, in the same group size but different models, i.e. Intrepid, concorde etc. And this doesn't include cars that people had fixed and or, cars no longer in servicewho's owners are not aware that it is a safety issue because it's out of warranty. Why are all of the other year and model cars from 1998 to present being recalled, except for the 2001 lhs??? why is chrysler charging 3x's as much more for this clock spring as compared to all the others that are almost identical. There can't be that much difference!!! maybe i should go on social media and launch my own campaign to see how many other people have this issue and are not aware of this process. This has been going on for me since 2012. Contacted chrysler numerous times about this issue!

The contact owned a 2001 chrysler lhs. While the contact was driving 40 mph, another vehicle did not yield to the right of way. As a result, the contact slammed on the brake pedal and crashed into the rear side of the other vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact's sustained minor injuries and bruising to the head and both arms. The contact sustained a concussion. Medical attention was not received. A police report was filed. The contact drove home and the insurance company towed the vehicle to their location where it was deemed destroyed. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 159,000.*pm *tp

I bought the car in 2005 and recently the airbag light has come on and remains on and i cannot get my horn to work.i also smell gas in the winter when starting the car (have been to several places to find a leak).visibility wipers are not working properly.

While driving 40 mph the driver noticed that the srs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that the front passenger air bag was defective and needed to be replaced.the chrome was peeling from the handle on the right front door and was replaced.the passenger seat air bag squib had an open fault. *sc

2001 chrysler lhs. The vehicle has about 100,000 miles on the odometer. Issue #1the vehicle dies suddenly while driving. This is a random occurrence, but very unsafe. I intend to contact chrysler about this issue, but no safety recalls have been made for this vehicle. Issue #2 vehicle engine surges suddenly when stopped while the driver has their foot on the brake and not touching the accelerator at all. The idle jumps around anywhere from 1,000 - 2000 rpm and then settles back down to normal idle on it's own after a few seconds. This is a random occurrence, but could be a safety issue if thebrakes do not hold.

Been having electrical problems on going with the interior lights blinking on and off even when the car is parked and ignition is off.the electrical problems occurs approximately every 5-6 months increments, causing the battery to go dead.can be driving down the road and the car will just cut off. Have spoken with several people with chryslers that has been having the same or similar problems but there has been no recalls concerning the electrical components of the chrysler.the problem has begin to get worse and worse.we need some help.there are several different complaints on various sites on the web concerning electrical issues with the chrysler.this was a new car.it is not a used car.could you please help or give guidance on how to handle this.there has been no recalls concerning this issue.the car has been on the interstate and just cut off.

My ignition/park interlock does not work allowing car to be pulled out of park at any time.

Key in ignition won't turn- locksmith says he sees a lot of new chrysler cars with this problem. Burrs on cylinders in ignition. 1st time this happened the car was under warranty and was towed to dealership. Happened again in august 2003 and same locksmith showed us how to hit on key to get it to turn. Now have to do that each time the car is started. Needs a recall. Locksmith is kenny hammack 812-372-0309. Want dealership to correct this problem at no cost to us.

2001 chrysler lhs headlight lenses have clouded and reduced nighttime visibility.this is something that should not have happened, as it can be dangerous at night.

Was turning a corner at 15mph when a book on the passenger's side slid across the seat andhitbelt buckle, releasing shoulder an d lap belts.

Dt:consumer'swife worked at a place where she parked by concrete posts. When she was backing out of parking space, the seat back malfunctioned, causing her to hit the side mirror. Consumer checked vehicle when wife got home and seat seemed to be locked in place. Today consumer was traveling on a dirt road when the back of the seat collapsed. The consumer ran up onto the berm that was along the side of the road. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, and dealer would not look at vehicle without charging $94.00 . Seat will not stay in place.if one touches the seat with any pressure theback seat will fall. Consumer is worried that the seat might fail on the highway while doing high speed.when the seat goes up and down consumer can hear a noise. Consumer says he will not drive on highway because of concern for what might happen.

The steering wheel squeaks when turning. Usually when it is cold weather, below 60 degrees or so. Took it to dealer who said that it is coming from the steering box and there is no danger. It is safe to drive and to "live with it". I took that to mean that it would be very expensive to fix, although no quote was ever given. After reading numerous complaints about steering problems with chrysler products, and specifically my make, model and year, i think this may be a precursor to something much more serious. The problem has been intermittent for the past 18 months, although i just recently took it to the dealer for their diagnostic evaluation.

While driving 60 mph the plastic 25 feet of trim attached to the front hood flew off and over the vehicle. Consumer has a concern that the trim could have struck another vehicle and caused an unexpected crash. The dealer was not notified.

Splitting dashboardi noticed that is was a slight slit in the dashboard throughout the summer it started getting bigger, as time went on it has gotten almost half foot long. I paid to have it repaired it cracked again in the same spot, i tried to repair it myself and it didn't look too good so i took it in to have it repaired again and they told me that they were afraid to fix because it was near my airbag and did not won't to be responsible for any damages of the airbag so i left it alone. I am afraid thatit may affect the function of my airbag. I would like to have the dashboard replaced but the dealership quoted me over $2000 to have this done and it is not in my budget.

Dash cracks around passenger side airbag.appears to be expanding and the only option for repair, due to the location, is complete replacement of the dash.

Dashboard is splitting on a 2001 chrysler lhs.the split/tear started small (less than 3 inches) and over the past year has grown to approximately 10-12 inches.this was not due tooutside action or force.

*sc

While packing/placing packages into the trunk the vacuum lid fell, striking the consumer on the head.no injuries.

Four sub frame bushings had to replaced.this could have effected the steering and the transmission. In its present state it could cause these parts to lock up. Vehicle had 39,028 miles on it. Consumer had the repairs done by an after market mechanic. Currently, manufacturer will not reimburse consumer.
