1994 chrysler lhs accelerated without warning causing consumer to strike two vehicles and a telephone pole. The consumer stated the air bags failed to deploy.
During a minor collision there was violent deployment of the air bag causing injury to consumer (bruised face) and broken glasses.
My father noticed the passenger airbag lifting, and warping soon after purchasing the vehicle.the vehicle was still new, yet chrysler refused saying that it was normal due to the material.there are numerous complaints regarding a defective passenger airbag for the 1994 lhs and numerous technical bulletins.even though it is 20 years old, the vehicle is in excellent condition. The airbag condition has worsened tremendously, and poses a severe safety hazard. The vehicle only has approximately 13k miles, has been garaged, and is in excellent condition.there is nothing else wrong with the vehicle except for the fact that the airbag is defective.this poses an extreme safety hazard and i am afraid that it will not deploy in the event of an accident, and result in death.chrysler said that their seatbelts and airbags have a lifetime warranty, yet they refuse to resolve this matter.please assist.
I hit a car in the rear at 12 to 15 mph, air bags did not deploy. Should they have?
While driving 5 mph vehicle in front was rear ended by consumer's vehicle. The air bags deployed and shattered the front windshield.

Consumer was driving approximately 35 mph when applied the abs, and pedal went to the floor. Vehicle rear ended a honda, anddriver 's side air bag did not deploy. Passenger's side air bag raised up, but did not come out.
I was in a full frontal crash on 7/2/01, both driver and passinger airbags failed to deploy. Both my daughter and i were injured due to the air bags not deploying.

Passanger side airbag compartment cover is disengaging from it's designed apparatus.it appears to be caused by direct sunlight that is removing the vinyl covering to the housing compartment of the passenger side airbag.my concern is the safty of the deployment of the airbag.has the proper functionality of the airbagsdeployment been compromised due to the defective cover. And due to the covering being loose, could the airbag deploy at anytime without it's designed cause.

Takata recall; my transmission goes in "limp mode" often and i smell electric wiring burning in side my vehicle, under dash or under hood some were?! the vehicle was in motion on a city streets.
Dt: the consumer states that the car is locking and unlocking, the door locks by itself. The trunk is also opening by itself. The owner has not taken the vehicle to have it looked at yet. She has called the dealership to check on recalls and there were not any on her car, according to her dealership. The owner bought the car used from a friend and she is also the third owner. The previous owner put in a new motor. The manufacturer has not been contacted. This has been happening with the trunk for about three weeks and the lock for about a week. The owner is locking her car doors at night and the next morning the car is unlocked and the trunk was open.she is going to have the car checked today, but she doesn't want to pay $85.00 to have the car looked at and checked. This car is a 1994 chrysler lhs. The owner suggests that this is an electrical problem. The information is all that the consumer had available to her. The owner has the vehicle regularly maintained.
In july 2004, i purchased a used '94 chrysler lhs w/95,000 miles in very good condition (exterior/interior) but within the first few weeks i experienced electrical problems (electric current not going to gauges, gauges going haywire), transmission problems (periodic 'limp mode', car erratically surging) and steering problems (rack 7 pinion, inner/outer tie rods). Within a few months i replaced the inner/outer tie rods and front/rear stabilizer links that all improved my front suspension.just recently about a month ago, i had my local dodge dealer replace one broken transmission mount ($305) then the following week at 124,500 miles while driving to work on my local highway my transmission failed, which resulted in loss of power steering and loss of drive gears, i was able to exit safely onto my jobs parking lot before it finally gave out. I had it towed to an exclusive auto transmission shop, they had to rebuild/overhaul the transmission and torque converter ($1,800).a whopping $2,100 in repairs in about a month. There went my christmas money.
The vehicle electrical system is not working properly causing the heater to come on but unable to be turned off until consumer takes the circuit out.and the instrument panel lights work intermittently.nlm
Right steering tie rod has rubbed throughtransmission harness, causing a short circuit which resulted in an electrical system malfunction. A recall has been issued onvehicle's make and model. However, this vehiclewas notincluded due to vin. Vehicle was repaired at the owner's expense.

While driving vehicle would constantly stall without warning. Vehicle was towed home, restarted& drove to dealership. Informed by mechanic a tune up was needed, which was done. Half hour later, stopped for fuel & vehicle would not restart. Problem happened more than 7 different times. Vehicle was not included under recall #94v024000/ electrical wiring due to vin. Parts have been replaced, but problem not solved.crankshaft sensor was replaced at consumer's cost.
Owner states that while driving vehicle on highway the engine dies out, he also notes that dealer ran diagnostic test on vehicle and could not find anything wrong.
When slowing down engine dies, causing total loss of power steering and power brkaes, vehicle has been checked by two different dealers who can not duplicate the problem possibly engine related.

Bad ignition switch...i have had 2 of these cars and same thing on both. The transmission will not shift, lights on dash and speedometer wouldn't work...put in new transmission...still would not shift...had the ignition switch changed...now it works.how many people put in new transmissions?when it is the ignition switch?since this has happened on both of my cars i believe it is a default.*la

Windshield wiper stops working (no power) during rainstorm. It's very dangerous to change lanes to the shoulder in the rain without wipers.slamming hood starts wipers again.all gauges (speed, tack, gas etc) either go full on/off or stop at 1/2 actual speed/ rpm without any apparent reason. At the same time, the seat belt and air bag lights illuminate. Pounding on dash sometimes returns the gauges. Turning off the engine and re-starting correct the gauges/lights but not the wipers. Car is at dealers for repair and they can not find problem(s).
While driving the vehicle suddenly slowed down and almost came to a complete stop, the mechanic found the problem to be the wires under the front bumper, the plastic wire protector is not produced to be completely closed therefor it allows dirt and water to gather inside of it, this debris rubbed against the wires weakening them.nlm

Consumer was experiencing problems with the transmission skipping and not shifting, consumer was informed that there was an internal wiring problem in the transmission, consumer was then informed by the mechanic that there was a recall on the wiring in the transmission, consumer then contacted the manufacturer to find out the process for reimbursement and was told that her vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.(recall #94v024000)
I purchased the car in june 06, car was ok, barely drove it, when the summer arrived more driving. Car stared to shut off while driving the vehicle, numerous time, called tow truck, mechanic. Mechanic says car fuse blowing, major electrical issue. Could not find part to replace wiring chassis and harness. So i kept driving the car, sometimes when turningleft car dies out, might restart but might not. Parked the car for a while to sell, cant get a buyer 4 an electrical issue. Drove again, same trouble almost always when turning left, engine control fuse 20amps, blows out, replace may restart may not. Had an electrical specialist look he says this was a recall, i checked looks like my car not in the vin# sequence, chrysler says no way won't help.

Vehicle stalls due to wiring harness malfunction as stated in recall. Chrysler claims to not be able to determine cause of stalls and denies any recall.
Frame of vehicle is weak and is moving under steering gear.cause is unknown.consumer states that he replaced the rack and pinion and in doing so, found that the wiring harness that goes from the solenoid control module and the solenoid control valve had been put in between the crossmember and the rack and pinion, a bolt had cut and shorted out the harness, this is the bolt that holds the mount of the rack and pinion, while turning the wheel to the left and right, the master cylinder and rack and pinion move, dealer recomended replacement of the rack bushings and right sway bar link, however stated the steering was not a problem.
Recall 94v024000// 611; car started bucking and engine was skipping, electronic analysis ran, dealer contacted and stated the wiring harness shorted out completely and affected another wiring harness, no repair work done. Consumer paid to remedy the problem.
Transmission is leaking, connot find problem. Transmissionline/fittings checked and replaced. Heavy smoke under hood cannot find problem. Undercarriage has excessive corrosion. Vehicle has been undrivable 4 times (on tow truck 4x's in past 2 weeks).

Computer module needed to be upgraded.
The contact owns a 1994 chrysler lhs. While driving 25 mph, the contact noticed smoke coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle stalled and was unable to be restarted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.
The contact owns a 1994 chrysler lhs. Within a few seconds of parking his vehicle the contact noticed smoke coming from the front end of the vehicle, then he saw flames coming from the underneath the hood. He and the passenger got out of the vehicle and ran away from the vehicle. Within a few minutes, the flames were at least 30 feet in the air. The fire department arrived within 5 minutes and they extinguished the fire within 15 minutes. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed and he was not sure if the fire department also filed a report. The contact had scheduled an appointment with an authorized dealer for january 3, 2011 because he heard a noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle.he referenced recall 98v184000, fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system. His parents were the original owners of the vehicle and stated that the recall repair was never performed on the vehicle.the failure and current mileages were 145,000. Consumer states while driving there is intermittent bucking, the rpm races, the engine light and cruise control light is on and vehicle losses power and will not restart.this has happended 12 times. On other occasions, experiencing long cranking time.dealer replaced battery, water pump, tensioner, timing belt, idle speed motor, cleaned the throttle body, wiring at the crank sensor, cam sensor, positive terminal, connector to computer, found battery terminal corroded, and overhaled the transmission.the internal engine temperature is incorrect.dealer replaced coolant sensor and thermostat.fan belts are cracked.belts replaced. However, problem still exist.manufacturer notified.

We are not satisfied with the reliability and performance of the original and replacement parts on a chrysler lhs we purchased new in 19994.the following are the high failure parts and systems on the car:1.water pump and associated parts (2 times) .it has failed twice, the first time was at 59,559 miles when it froze up and took the timing belt with it.the second time the pump developed a leak at 102,275 miles, which was 42,716 miles on the replacement pump.2.disc brakes and associated parts (2 times and need to be turned again).the rotors warp due to overheat from the brake pads.the first time the rotors were turned at 56,441 miles and then again at 84,347 miles.right now the car has 102,750 miles and the rotors need to be turned again.3.airconditioning system and associated parts (2 times).the airconditioning system evaporator coil leaked at 62,299 miles, but was covered by an extended warranty.the evaporator coil is leaking again at 102,750 miles and is not covered by warranty.this is a very expensive procedure in that the dashboard has to be removed.4.fuel rail and associated parts (1 time).due to a strong gas smell the fuel rail was replaced.when the dealer insisted that the problem wasn't covered by warranty, we paid to have the problem fixed.we were later reimbursed by chrysler when we called their customer service.

1) rack & pinion steering components are becoming worn after only 59000 miles. As the steering wheel is moved, a "clunking" noise is heard coming from the rack & pinion gear box, resulting in vibration through steering wheel at low or high speeds. 2) trunk is filling with water due to body welding cracks. Welding cracks are located in each rear corner of trunk lid near each turn indicator. 3) engine ticking is coming from valve train wear.
Poor original design of timing belt tensioner, new one metal.

Plastic timing belt pulley shattered inside casing and broke the timing belt.
Vehicle had stalled out while traveling 30-40mph. Happened 3 other times. Oil light sensor came on, but oil was not low. Not at dealer.
Fire in engine compartment that totally destroyed car. There was a large puddle of gas in driveway under car prior to fire. Car had been idling in driveway for about 10 to 15 min. Before driving the kids to the bus stop.wife and kids were in car with engine running and had smelled something like fuel. First bus had picked up 2 kids left then wife saw smoke heard noise saw flames from under hood and got other children out of car just before passenger compartment was starting to burn. Car was totally burned through out. Reported incident to chrysler due toa previous recall that had been performed to the fuel system about 3 to 4 year before incident. Was told due to the extensive damage to car (after inspection by chrysler's inspector) that fire was of undetermined cause and was not their responsibility because recall had been performed. Even though prior to their inspection i (a mechanic of 20+years ) could not see a problem with the fuel supply lines to engines fuel rail. Would like a further investigation into this incident to prevent possible future injuries to people or possible loose of life.
The pivot bolt attaching the camshaft drive belt idler assembly to the engine block broke causing the engine to stop immediately while we were in an intersection.fortunately there was no other traffic endangered.the engine could not be restarted and the car had to be towed from the location of the incident.damage occurred to the tensioner pulley and the timing belt and to the valve train.major service was conducted on the vehicle at about 70,000 miles when the timing belt was replaced along with the water pump and other components.the official service manual does not even suggest replacing the idler assembly or pivot bolt (integral to the replacement assembly), and when i spoke with daimlerchrysler customer service at their headquarters they admitted that they also have no service bulletins suggesting that item be serviced.i still have the broken parts available.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55 mph the vehicle started to jerk, the engine and cruise control light illuminated and the vehicle stalled and was unable to restart.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where thevehicle remained for a month. The dealer determined the problem was the computer module (or chip) and it needed to be replaced coupled with a fuel injection cleanse.two miles later after leaving the dealer the vehicle presented the same problem and stalled.the vehicle was towed back to the dealer.

Consumer received manufacturer's recall790 for an oil leak.vehicle hasbeenstill leaking oil. Consumer has contacted dealership.
After starting from a full stop at a controlled intersection, the engine died without warning or indication.we rolled the car out of the intersection to the curb.it failed to restart.mechanical inspection revealed a broken pivot bolt in the tensioner assembly for the camshaft drive belt.the condition created was dangerour and without any warning in that the engine failed suddenly without warning leaving no power assists for steering and required guessing as to what was happening.the check engine light came on as the car was still rolling.i do not have the vin readily available as the car is not drivable since the failure also resulted in the engine bending valves in the combustion chambers.

The vehicle is experiencing stalling, it will stall while stopped in traffic and while driving.
Engine stalls without notice.this is the third time it has happened on the interstate in traffic and could cause an accident.there is no indicatio that it is going to stall.the first sign of a problem is when i press the accelerator pedal there is no response and the oil indicator light comes on .there is also a problem with the transmission not engaging in reverse and low in the the first time i go to drive it in that day.it takes about 2 minutes before i can get it to engage.when driving after the transmission is warmed up, there is some hesitation when accelerating. Also the headlights are very dim when driving at night.the hood lift assist cylinders do not function allowing the hood to drop without notice.i was struck in the head twice while checking fluids.

I was pussing on the gas to heat up the engine, while my foot on the gas pedal the gear changed from park to reverse, thank god there was no one behind the car because it moved in reverse direction like a rocket from the drive way to the street to hit another standing car and moved off the street. Other than body damage the engine didn't work after the accedent and i had to replace it and until now since 4/2000 i'm fixing things related to the engine because it was used.right now i can change from park to reverse without pushing any where! not even on the brakes! i think what happend wasn't fair to me and i was lucky enough because i didn't cause any death or enjury to anyone.emad.thx.

Dear nhtsa, in january i bought a 94 chrysler lhs in good condition from a friend.it had around 75000 miles on it when i bought it.before i bought it, she told me that she had repaired the ac numerous times and the warranty had even been extended on it until 70,000 miles.also, i read in consumer reports that in canada, the chrysler lhs ac warranty was extended to 7 years or 150,000 km to address ac evaporator problems.with that in mind, when i tried to use the ac in the spring/summer, it smelled like the nastiest, worst smell ever and i couldn't use it.when i took it to the chrysler dealership, they told me that i needed a new air conditioning system for $1500.when i brought up the history of repairs, they offered no payment help whatsoever.i decided to take my car to my regular repair shop, and they told me that it was only the evaporator, and it would cost me around $500 to fix.i paid for that.the reason that i am telling you this is because the part was defective, and the dealership not only wouldn't help me with the repairs (even thought they knew the ac had a history of problems) but they tried to sell me more unnecessary parts (the rest of the ac system).the second problem that i am having, which has not been fixed is the rack and pinion.in mid january i turned on the car one day and the power steering was out.i took it to my good mechanic (not the liar/thief chrysler dealership) and he told me that the rack and pinion needed to be fixed/replaced, another $400-500 job.instead of fixing it, i decided to do a little bit of research and i noticed your investigation pe99044 which started on june 28,1999 and i wanted you to know that my rack and pinion is also defective, and it needs to be replaced.thank you for all of your help and please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] again!!!

Recall 883dealership did not fix inboard pivot bracket. Said another part could not be found or welded. Changed bracket myself. Dealership had car 16 days and we had to have it towed home. Now air conditioner doesn't work after receiving car. There was no other part needed.

We are not satisfied with the reliability and performance of the original and replacement parts on a chrysler lhs we purchased new in 19994.the following are the high failure parts and systems on the car:1.water pump and associated parts (2 times) .it has failed twice, the first time was at 59,559 miles when it froze up and took the timing belt with it.the second time the pump developed a leak at 102,275 miles, which was 42,716 miles on the replacement pump.2.disc brakes and associated parts (2 times and need to be turned again).the rotors warp due to overheat from the brake pads.the first time the rotors were turned at 56,441 miles and then again at 84,347 miles.right now the car has 102,750 miles and the rotors need to be turned again.3.airconditioning system and associated parts (2 times).the airconditioning system evaporator coil leaked at 62,299 miles, but was covered by an extended warranty.the evaporator coil is leaking again at 102,750 miles and is not covered by warranty.this is a very expensive procedure in that the dashboard has to be removed.4.fuel rail and associated parts (1 time).due to a strong gas smell the fuel rail was replaced.when the dealer insisted that the problem wasn't covered by warranty, we paid to have the problem fixed.we were later reimbursed by chrysler when we called their customer service.

The air conditioner was not working properly when we bought the car in august of 1997. We are the third owners so the chrysler warrenty was not transferable and they would not do any repairs. We had the a/c recharged at an independent repair shop and it worked for about a week.we then had the evaporator coil replaced.it lasted for a month. We now find out that chrysler has had problems with the a/c and extended the warrenty to 7/70000 but we are now past it.to replace the evaporator is a $300 + repair.
This car had a bumper to bumper 60,000 mile warranty - transmission and air conditioning should have been covered 100% i did not purchase this vehicle from vandynhoven's only had it serviced through them.they are reimbursing me 50% on the airconditioning because chrysler has agreed to pay 50% but i feel that the evaporator core was warranteed up to 70,000 miles and now i'm at 71,700 and they aren't covering it in full.the car was brought in at least 2 times while under warranty with air problems ?same with the transmission - it was brought in on several occations where it should have been fully covered and i had to pay $750.00 the intake manifold was leaking on 10/04/99

Consumer has noticed the headlight bulbs have gone bad when attempting to change the bulbs. Also,entire socket would need replacing. Consumer has contacted the dealer, please provide any further details. Dealer furnished information to manufacturer that parts was broken. That information was not correct according to consumer.
1. Headlight focus and illumination has been very poor, no solution seems to be available.2. Front disk brake rotors warped at the first hard application of the brakes.dealer attempted repair four or five times and when they would no longer honor the warranty took the vehicle to an independant shop and they finally fixed the problem.3. Twice the right driver's seat back hinge has failed when the driver sat back. Repair accomplished by independent shop.4. After noticing a strong smell of gasoline, discovered fuel leaking from the front of both left and right fuel injection rails.vehicle has been taken to the dealer for repair but seems that there is a long waiting list for the repair parts which are back ordered.

I own a 1994 chrysler lhs. On jan 2, 2011, i parked the car and turned the ignition off. The car had been making a strange sound (like it was stuck in 3rd gear) for approx 2 months. I had scheduled an appointment with my mechanic for jan 4,2011. What i thought wassteam start rising from under the hood, but then i saw bright red, yellow and orange flames along the hoods edge. My passenger and i exited the vehicle and began running. Within 15 seconds flames shot 30 feet in the air. I called 911 and fire and police responded. The fire dept was there within minutes and the fire had only burned approx 15 minutes. The entire front end of the vehicle was destroyed. Just the engine block sat on the tar street. The tow truck driver said for the fire to have burned so hot, so fast, it must have been leaking fuel for several months or even a year. He also told me about the fuel injector recall, the car was a total loss and i only carried liability insurance. Do i have any recourse.

While driving i noticed a strong odor of gas coming through the vents as the heater was on. I stopped the vechile and noticed gas leaking from the fuel rails. By the time i got home gas was squirting out of the fuel rails and leaking on the floor. The dealer looked at the car and verified that the fuel rail fitting was broken. The vechile is being repaired on 12/21/1998. I noticed in the complaint database that there were numerous complaint on the same subject.

The contact owns a 1994 chrysler lhs. Within a few seconds of parking his vehicle the contact noticed smoke coming from the front end of the vehicle, then he saw flames coming from the underneath the hood. He and the passenger got out of the vehicle and ran away from the vehicle. Within a few minutes, the flames were at least 30 feet in the air. The fire department arrived within 5 minutes and they extinguished the fire within 15 minutes. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report was filed and he was not sure if the fire department also filed a report. The contact had scheduled an appointment with an authorized dealer for january 3, 2011 because he heard a noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle.he referenced recall 98v184000, fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system. His parents were the original owners of the vehicle and stated that the recall repair was never performed on the vehicle.the failure and current mileages were 145,000. Timing belt.so many things have went wrong with both these cars and they both were 1994 ch-lhs.dont have the dates in front of me when all the things happened.i had trouble with this car 3 days after i bought it. Fuel injection leak,experienced spraying of fuel over engine due to 'o'-ring fuel bar deterioration, resulting from reformulation of fuel in california.
Nhtsa recall 98v18400 / manufacturer's recall 790; fuel leakage. Was repaired ,and about 1200 miles later ,fuel started spraying and drenching all of front end of vehicle and liner of hood, causing serious fire hazard.
Around 9/15/03 - my 1994 lhs started to vibrate while idling.the problem got worse and one day i noticed the smell of gas.i took it to my repair shop for repair.he had the car from 10/7 to 10/11 trying to determine the problem and finally repaired it.after paying $433.89 for the repair, i looked at the repair history (the car belonged to my husband) and found out that the car had a o-ring recall in 1999.that was supposed to have fixed the problem.i contacted russ darrow, authorized chrysler dealer, about the recall work and they said the repair should have lasted longer than 4 years.they weren't willing to do anything since i had work done by archer auto.i have the receipts for all repair work.i would like to get a refund of the money i paid but more importantly i would like someone to verify that the work done was correct and that i am not going to have a problem with a fire from gas leaking from the o-ring. *la

As we were driving at about 30 mph, the interior of the car became filled with gasoline fumes. We got to a parking lot and gasoline was flowing from under the hood. It was in puddles on the ground and on horizontal surfaces of the engine. In january 1999 we took the car to bert ogden and had a o-ring replaced due to a recall. The parking lot was by sears and the mechanics there said it appeared that some type of o-ring on the fueld injection system had failed.

1994 chrysler lhs developed a hair crack in the fuel injector rail.*mrwhen the consumer inquired about the recall, he was told the recall was only for the o-rings, despite what the internet stated and the o-rings on the consumers vehicle had been replaced in the past, so the consumer would be responsible for the current problem.the consumer went to another dealer where they honored the recall.in dec 2004 while driving,the fuel pressure hose burst, the consumer went back to the first dealer and again inquired about the recall, once again the consumer was denied the recall repair.there was a problem with the steering which is always turned to the right or left or sometime straight.the rack bushing were replaced 3 alignments were performed.the problem was the entire frame under the hood moved when the wheels were turned.(recall 98v184000)

Throughout the last 3 months we have noticed that our cars transmission has been acting up. It has been shuddering everytime it shifts from 1st to second gear and from 3rd to od. It also has slammed into gear occasionally. We are very concerned for several reasons. One is obviously the safety of my wife and children in this car because this is her car and they are usually with her. Engine stalls without notice.this is the third time it has happened on the interstate in traffic and could cause an accident.there is no indicatio that it is going to stall.the first sign of a problem is when i press the accelerator pedal there is no response and the oil indicator light comes on .there is also a problem with the transmission not engaging in reverse and low in the the first time i go to drive it in that day.it takes about 2 minutes before i can get it to engage.when driving after the transmission is warmed up, there is some hesitation when accelerating. I was pussing on the gas to heat up the engine, while my foot on the gas pedal the gear changed from park to reverse, thank god there was no one behind the car because it moved in reverse direction like a rocket from the drive way to the street to hit another standing car and moved off the street. Other than body damage the engine didn't work after the accedent and i had to replace it and until now since 4/2000 i'm fixing things related to the engine because it was used.right now i can change from park to reverse without pushing any where! not even on the brakes! i think what happend wasn't fair to me and i was lucky enough because i didn't cause any death or enjury to anyone.emad.thx.
There is a vibration when accelerating which becomes worse nearing highway speeds. The condition persists after replacing the powertrain mount and resecuring the harmonic balancer on another visit. I test drove the vehicle with the shop foreman and now the transmission assembly (shaft bearing) requiring a complete replacement and two axle shafts which exibit excessive wear. The problem that i complained of earlier when the vehicle was covered by the used car warrenty by 100% minus a $50 deductable and documented will now cost an estimated $2400 dollars at my expense. I will pursue legal action if necessary.

In july 2004, i purchased a used '94 chrysler lhs w/95,000 miles in very good condition (exterior/interior) but within the first few weeks i experienced electrical problems (electric current not going to gauges, gauges going haywire), transmission problems (periodic 'limp mode', car erratically surging) and steering problems (rack 7 pinion, inner/outer tie rods). Within a few months i replaced the inner/outer tie rods and front/rear stabilizer links that all improved my front suspension.just recently about a month ago, i had my local dodge dealer replace one broken transmission mount ($305) then the following week at 124,500 miles while driving to work on my local highway my transmission failed, which resulted in loss of power steering and loss of drive gears, i was able to exit safely onto my jobs parking lot before it finally gave out. I had it towed to an exclusive auto transmission shop, they had to rebuild/overhaul the transmission and torque converter ($1,800).a whopping $2,100 in repairs in about a month. There went my christmas money.

I took the car in for the recall but no work was done, ecept to check for broken "pivot brackets"the replacement kit which includes the guides was not installed.

Recall 883dealership did not fix inboard pivot bracket. Said another part could not be found or welded. Changed bracket myself. Dealership had car 16 days and we had to have it towed home. Now air conditioner doesn't work after receiving car. There was no other part needed.
While driving driver's seat back broke and failed to support driver's weight causing seat to fall back.driver was not able to hold onto the steering wheel and could not see over the dash.this brake was the subsequent brake of a pin in the seat frame.

The headrests do not lock in place. While driving, they drop. Dealer says nothing that they can do.
While parked consumer adjusted the front driver's power seat and it failed to move on its own. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that themotor needed to be replaced.butvehicle was not on recall, and the warranty expired .the driver had topay for parts and labor.
There are only 2 bolts that are attached to front driver's side power seat. But passenger's side power seat has two bolts in the front and in the rear.2 bols in rear were never installed, these bolts mount the seat track assembly to the vehicle frame.*ml

During a routine passing of another auto the upright portion of the drivers seat gave way. Traveling at a relatively low speed and having both hands on the stearing wheel, i able to keep the car under control and come to a safe stop. When the seat collapsed it put the driver out of reach of the stearing wheel. Had i not had both hands on the wheel, or i was traveling at a higher speed it could have been tragic. The only damage was the repair cost.

When driving the vehicle and coming to a stop have to pump the brakes several times before the vehicle would stop. Consumer stated the inside of brake pads were disintergrated so that when the brakes were applied the right side exploded leaving a gap between rotor and metal braking of pad, thus it took several pumps pf pedal to close gap and allow brakes to work, there was no warning of the pads going bad since the outside pads of both sides were next to new condition and they are the one with squealer.

Abs computer failed.

Our traction controll went out in december of 1997 and then our abs went out. After the dealer made repairs under warranty our car never seemed to run the same again. Very sluggish and the transmission appeared to slip at times.took it back in march 1997 and was told there was a problem with a electrical module for the abs. Never were told of a recall.after that the card got terrible fule mileage and the transmission started to lock in second gear at times.when you turn the car off and re start it would be fine. We out it back in the shop three more times before i finally got it to lock into second gear and i drove it to the shop.the problem was fixed but we are still getting very bad fuel mileage. Had the fuel rail fixed for a leak on recall but still having bad fuel mileage.the transmission is still acting up.we are taking it back in again but the dealer doesn't feel there is a problem. When the dealer was repairing the fule rail they told us that they blew out a piston. Had to leave the car to rebuild the engine. Dealer did give us a rental car and have been very good to us.this car has too many problems and will be sold, no more chryslers in this family.

Aprox. 2 months ago i took my 1994 chrysler lhs to the dealer due to the traction control system light and the abs light were on.the dealer determined the problem was the " brake pedal travel sensor" , on the brake booster.i was advised the part is no longer available from chrysler.it was discontinued, after 1995, but it was 2005, so the 10 year rule on parts should not have been imposed yet.
Dealer said computer for abs and traction control malfunctioned.

Vehicle would not shift into park (would only go as far as neutral) and engine could not be turned off.emergency brake was applied and had to be released manually.when released the vehicle suddenly accelerated crashing before it stopped.fuses had to be disconnected in order for engine to shut off.consumer was injured in this accident.vehicle experienced an engine malfunction, the alternator belt burned, causing engine to smoke and stall.battery failed.turn signals did not work.tires were out of balance and caused vibration.transmission experienced vibration, gears malfunctioned, a code revealed a problem between the transmission control module and the powertrain module under heavy acceleration, consumer was informed this was possibly caused by a sticky throttle position sensor.brakes experienced vibration due to brakes being out of round, the front brakes and front rotors were replaced.
While traveling on highway and without prior warning brakes gave out. Pedal went down to the floor and no power.dealership was aware of the problem.

This is the 3rd set of disc brake rotors. The rotors can only be refaced one time. They warp, due to heat. The heat generated is uneven, causing the warping, because the brake disc pads are unequal in size, by design. Chrysler is purposely designing failure into its components. The unequal sized brake pads are not necessary as there is adequate room for equal sized pads. All lhs chryslers should be recalled and repaired at manufacturers expense, requiring them to redesign the brake pads to prevent unequal heating of the rotors. It is high time that chrysler be made to answer for their engineered failure of safety components.

We are not satisfied with the reliability and performance of the original and replacement parts on a chrysler lhs we purchased new in 19994.the following are the high failure parts and systems on the car:1.water pump and associated parts (2 times) .it has failed twice, the first time was at 59,559 miles when it froze up and took the timing belt with it.the second time the pump developed a leak at 102,275 miles, which was 42,716 miles on the replacement pump.2.disc brakes and associated parts (2 times and need to be turned again).the rotors warp due to overheat from the brake pads.the first time the rotors were turned at 56,441 miles and then again at 84,347 miles.right now the car has 102,750 miles and the rotors need to be turned again.3.airconditioning system and associated parts (2 times).the airconditioning system evaporator coil leaked at 62,299 miles, but was covered by an extended warranty.the evaporator coil is leaking again at 102,750 miles and is not covered by warranty.this is a very expensive procedure in that the dashboard has to be removed.4.fuel rail and associated parts (1 time).due to a strong gas smell the fuel rail was replaced.when the dealer insisted that the problem wasn't covered by warranty, we paid to have the problem fixed.we were later reimbursed by chrysler when we called their customer service.

Safety alert:while driving, a bolt holding the rack and pinion arm sheared off and the steering failed ! ! !the steering completely failed. It was inoperable.when i called chrysler customer service they hung up on me...we just bought a toyota.
Frame of vehicle is weak and is moving under steering gear.cause is unknown.consumer states that he replaced the rack and pinion and in doing so, found that the wiring harness that goes from the solenoid control module and the solenoid control valve had been put in between the crossmember and the rack and pinion, a bolt had cut and shorted out the harness, this is the bolt that holds the mount of the rack and pinion, while turning the wheel to the left and right, the master cylinder and rack and pinion move, dealer recomended replacement of the rack bushings and right sway bar link, however stated the steering was not a problem.
While backing around a corner, the righthand cv shaft popped out of the housing.the cv shaft was replaced only to have it happen again while backing up and turning the wheel. Closer inspection showed that the lower control arm mount had torn away at the weld area. I can email a picture of the area if you would like.thanks...dandt

Within a few months i replaced the inner/outer tie rods and front/rear stabilizer links that all improved my front suspension.just recently about a month ago, i had my local dodge dealer replace one broken transmission mount ($305) then the following week at 124,500 miles while driving to work on my local highway my transmission failed, which resulted in loss of power steering and loss of drive gears, i was able to exit safely onto my jobs parking lot before it finally gave out. I had it towed to an exclusive auto transmission shop, they had to rebuild/overhaul the transmission and torque converter ($1,800).a whopping $2,100 in repairs in about a month. There went my christmas money.

Dear nhtsa, in january i bought a 94 chrysler lhs in good condition from a friend.it had around 75000 miles on it when i bought it.before i bought it, she told me that she had repaired the ac numerous times and the warranty had even been extended on it until 70,000 miles.also, i read in consumer reports that in canada, the chrysler lhs ac warranty was extended to 7 years or 150,000 km to address ac evaporator problems.with that in mind, when i tried to use the ac in the spring/summer, it smelled like the nastiest, worst smell ever and i couldn't use it.when i took it to the chrysler dealership, they told me that i needed a new air conditioning system for $1500.when i brought up the history of repairs, they offered no payment help whatsoever.i decided to take my car to my regular repair shop, and they told me that it was only the evaporator, and it would cost me around $500 to fix.i paid for that.the reason that i am telling you this is because the part was defective, and the dealership not only wouldn't help me with the repairs (even thought they knew the ac had a history of problems) but they tried to sell me more unnecessary parts (the rest of the ac system).the second problem that i am having, which has not been fixed is the rack and pinion.in mid january i turned on the car one day and the power steering was out.i took it to my good mechanic (not the liar/thief chrysler dealership) and he told me that the rack and pinion needed to be fixed/replaced, another $400-500 job.instead of fixing it, i decided to do a little bit of research and i noticed your investigation pe99044 which started on june 28,1999 and i wanted you to know that my rack and pinion is also defective, and it needs to be replaced.thank you for all of your help and please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] again!!!
This car had a bumper to bumper 60,000 mile warranty - transmission and air conditioning should have been covered 100% i did not purchase this vehicle from vandynhoven's only had it serviced through them.they are reimbursing me 50% on the airconditioning because chrysler has agreed to pay 50% but i feel that the evaporator core was warranteed up to 70,000 miles and now i'm at 71,700 and they aren't covering it in full.the car was brought in at least 2 times while under warranty with air problems ?same with the transmission - it was brought in on several occations where it should have been fully covered and i had to pay $750.00 the intake manifold was leaking on 10/04/99
Two and only bolts of rack and pinion completely sheared off exiting from gas station resulting in total loss of steering.original rack and pinion was replaced at 47k miles with a new one.dealer being very cooperative in trying to get reimbursement for us ($800+).our concern is possibly defective bolts and need to issue recall for replacement of bolts.we kept original sheared bolts and rack.dealer now has bolts and has sent them to detroit for testing.dealer also has now taken possesion of rack and pinion showing remnants of sheared bolts inside.we have had many problems with the front end/steering of this vehicle.each time repair is made, problem gets worse, now culminating in total loss of steering which could have also resulted in the death of my wife, who was driving the car.fortunately, she had pulled into a gas station after driving several hours on i-74 at 65 mph.should a 1994 chrysler lhs now be on its third rack and pinion.i think not.i'm not optimistic dealer will come back with a definitive answer although the bolts were sent to chrysler engineering for metalurgy testing.if you need further information, we have documented all repairs/problems with this vehicle and would supply you with same.

As the steering wheel is moved, a "clunking" noise is heard coming from the rack & pinion gear box, resulting in vibration through steering wheel at low or high speeds. 2) trunk is filling with water due to body welding cracks. Welding cracks are located in each rear corner of trunk lid near each turn indicator. 3) engine ticking is coming from valve train wear.

On february 2002, 2 bolts connecting to the rack and pinion and tie rods snapped in half and nearly caused me to crash my vehicle. The snapping of the bolts caused the malfunction of the rack and pinion and i had to replace the rack and pinion plus the bolts (from chrysler). On january 23, 2004 , the exact malfunction occurred again almost causing another accident. I can't understand how a solid steel bolt manufactured by chrysler can snap in half after only 2 years. I have owned other automobiles older than the chrysler lhs and never had a bolt break in half at any time. I have been lucky on both occasions that i was able to maneuver the vehicle before an accident occurred. Also, these repairs are costly and cause one to be apprehensive about driving the vehicle again.

While cleaning engine the lift supports failed and fell on consumer head and neck causing bone spur to develop which will require operation.nlm
At 35mph the hood came up and pushed windshield backward one inch and bent roof of care, also destroyed hood.there was not wind that day. Front right fender also replaced.

Transmission is leaking, connot find problem. Transmissionline/fittings checked and replaced. Heavy smoke under hood cannot find problem. Undercarriage has excessive corrosion. Vehicle has been undrivable 4 times (on tow truck 4x's in past 2 weeks).
1994 chrysler lhs developed a hair crack in the fuel injector rail.*mrwhen the consumer inquired about the recall, he was told the recall was only for the o-rings, despite what the internet stated and the o-rings on the consumers vehicle had been replaced in the past, so the consumer would be responsible for the current problem.the consumer went to another dealer where they honored the recall.in dec 2004 while driving,the fuel pressure hose burst, the consumer went back to the first dealer and again inquired about the recall, once again the consumer was denied the recall repair.there was a problem with the steering which is always turned to the right or left or sometime straight.the rack bushing were replaced 3 alignments were performed.the problem was the entire frame under the hood moved when the wheels were turned.(recall 98v184000)

While my 1994 chrysler lhs was in for safety recall, the technician found subframe damage on the left front of car.he told me that it was obvious that the car had been like that for some time. The safety recall cannot be performed, until the damage is repaired. The only accident i had with the car was in 1996, while i was insured by citizens. Citizens looked at the vehicle, but claimed the vehicle had been in another accident, and that i should contact my current insurance company.the car has not been in another accident (isn't what they are suggesting -- fraud?).my current insurance company has also written to citizens, explaining that the car has not been in another accident.
Frame of vehicle is weak and is moving under steering gear.cause is unknown.consumer states that he replaced the rack and pinion and in doing so, found that the wiring harness that goes from the solenoid control module and the solenoid control valve had been put in between the crossmember and the rack and pinion, a bolt had cut and shorted out the harness, this is the bolt that holds the mount of the rack and pinion, while turning the wheel to the left and right, the master cylinder and rack and pinion move, dealer recomended replacement of the rack bushings and right sway bar link, however stated the steering was not a problem.
Manufacturer's recall 837 repairs, done at owner's expense. Owner did not agree withremedy manufacturerhad.also, was solicited for additional parts from dealer that were not neccessary forrecall repairs.949-472-7462 dlr #.

When driving in low speed and making any type of turn, there is knocking noise coming from the front end ofvehicle.
Loud noise comes from front end when a bump is hit in the road, we have spent over $800 trying to repair this problem but have not been successful.we have replaced the rack & pinion rack, the struts & the tie rods.we would like some kind of assistance in figuring out this problem.we had several mechanics say it was the rack, we did that & it didn't help at all.i think if chrysler made a good car, we wouldn't be investing this amount of money in a car.we have 8 people in our family that owns chrysler & dodge cars & trucks & we have all had problems.we would like to continue buying chrysler products, but can't seem to afford the car payment when we are spending more in repairs monthly.

Engine stalls without notice.this is the third time it has happened on the interstate in traffic and could cause an accident.there is no indicatio that it is going to stall.the first sign of a problem is when i press the accelerator pedal there is no response and the oil indicator light comes on .there is also a problem with the transmission not engaging in reverse and low in the the first time i go to drive it in that day.it takes about 2 minutes before i can get it to engage.when driving after the transmission is warmed up, there is some hesitation when accelerating. Also the headlights are very dim when driving at night.the hood lift assist cylinders do not function allowing the hood to drop without notice.i was struck in the head twice while checking fluids.

While driving 55 mph vehicle suddenly accelerated uncontrollably. Driver was not able to maintain control of the vehicle, and it collided into a utility pole. Driver sustained minor injuries, and was transported to a hospital. The vehicle was towed a garage for inspection. The cause has not been determined at this time.

Intermittently when accelerating to pass another vehicle transmission downshifts. When letting off the accelerator,transmission shifts up. Vehicle surges and stalls. Also, crank sensor was replaced last week, but the problem came back.problem was reported to the dealership. Problem seems to be related to recall campaign 94v024000. Heater would not shut off.
Whenever the heater or defroster is turned on under 26 degrees temperature,all the windows will fog up on the inside if it's under 19 degrees january 8, 1995, was the first time this happened, and consumer has taken vehicle in to localchrysler dealership eleven times for same problem. Chrysler has not found the problem.

The windshield wiper fluid makes the blades of the wipers melt, black residue off the blades spills onto the window. Dealer has not seen.
