Horn was not working indicates that since horn switch is attached to airbag in steering wheel that airbag is defective and must be replaced. No indication in instrument panel that airbag is not working or off. Tried to blown horn and was inoperable took it to dealer who fix the horn on 11/04/15. Took back to dealer today 12/03/15 who indicated that it must be the airbag since the horn is attached to airbag and it must be the airbag that is corroding the switch to the horn in the steering wheel.
I own a 2004 chrysler crossfire. As i was driving through the city yesterday 07/30/07 i made a right hand turn onto a cross street and suddenly my steering locked. I was able to stop just inches from a parked car. The steering wheel would only move slightly to the left. I exerted some force to the wheel in the left hand direction and suddenly it broke loose and became free again, at the same time the airbag warning light on the dashboard came on. I carefully drove the car to a dealer where i was informed that the clockspring had broken and jammed the steering column. The dealer says they have never seen a clockspring break on this type of car. The car is to be repaired 08/01/07, at a cost to me of $350.00, and i have requested that they give me the old parts. This car is one of very few produced and it only has about 22,000 miles on it. It scares me to think what might have happened had this occurred at highway speeds, and i would like to know if this could happen again, or if it has happened to others.
This is my 2nd request. I have defective airbags & they have been this way since the car was new. It only has 40k miles on it. I have tried contacting chrysler numerous times, they have not replied. This is very dangerous. I have gone to numerous dealerships, private repairs and put over $2500 of my own money into this issue, but it still isn't working etc. Everyone says this call should be recalled. I need help!
I had a accident on 09/07/2017, and the air bags deployed. Due to the deployment of the air bagssmall silver iron particles flew across my face and arms that came out of the airbags , and i have to severe burnsfrom the air bags,
Airbags have been identified as defective by numerous mechanics.
After being involved ina front end collision the passenger side air bag deployed striking the window. The driver side air bag did not deploy. There was no passenger in the vehicle at the time of the accident.*tc
I was in a car accident on july 24, 2005 where i rear-ended a buick rendezvous in my chrysler crossfire.i did extensive damage to the front end of my crossfire and there was no airbag deployment on the crossfire.i sustained minor seat belt injuries on my shoulder and across my stomach.i did call chrysler to let them know that the airbags did not deploy on the car and they stated they would have the car and accident investigated.i learned later that the reason the airbags did not deploy on the crossfire was that the release for the front airbags is in the frame of the vehicle and the only way to deploy them is to bend the frame of the vehicle.this is a major failure in that the crossfire has such a low profile that there are very few cars that you could be in an accident with and then have the airbags to deploy.
2004 chrysler crossfiremy son was driving this car, lost control and hit a pole.he suffered a concussion and facial lacerations because his head hit the steering wheel before the airbags deployed.
Ignition on my 2004 chrysler crossfire has stopped working and the key will not turn. This does not allow me to start my car.brought my car to the dealership and they lubed the ignition and worked fine for the last three months. Now my car is having the same problem and the dealership says that my warranty has expired and they want to charge me $800!!! the car is an 2004 i bought the car in 2006 with 2,080 miles and the car only has 24,000 on it now and i haven't had any other problems except for parts on the car!! this is sooo frustrating because i am constantly having to take off time from work again costing me more money to have this fixed. Not to mention how the car companies want the tax payers money to bail them out with the financial crisis. Then they should starting building better cars except for from their perspective it is probably fine because that means they will have more cars sales which is more money in their pockets. When are we going to start taking care of the tax payers??
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that she attempted to start the vehicle but the ignition failed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the ignition switch and cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,000.
I have a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The radio display is very dim and cannot be read n normal daylight conditions. This a possible safety hazard for those who will concentrate on the radio instead of the road. Althought i don't believe i woould do this i find myseld looking at the radio trying to see the station when i should be keeping my eyes on the road. The situation is made very sangerous by the dim display.
Vehicle leaks water into driver side compartment every time it rains. As it does so the blower motor fills with water and can lead to a fire starting in the cars cabin. Chrysler was contacted but no repair was offered though this problem is a manufacturing defect.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that the ignition switch failed to turn. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 118,000.

It begin not starting,so i have had fuel pump replaced, oil changes, batterycheck, fuel filter change, crank sensor replaced, to find out when the sensorwas replaced,i have a wire harness defect,i have called all over trying to getthis problem taken care of,but to no avail. This car,2004 crossfire hasall mercedes benz parts and i really believe this is very hazardous condition. My husband and i were driving and the car just cut off in the mist of the drive, itsvery dangerous, not only to me driving, but to people on the highway as well. I wish the chyrsler or mercedes dealers would come to an agreement to recall and fix the problems of this vehicle. This is not good business at all.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that after inserting the key into the ignition, the steering column seized and the key could not be turned. The failure recurred six times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis but no cause for the failure was found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 26,000.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that the ignition switch and steering wheel lock prevented her from starting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who was not able to diagnose the failure, but stated that the ignition switch might be defective. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance and referred the contact to nhtsa. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.
This is a common problem on 1000's of crossfire's and mercedes (all models from 1998 forward).this issue is the bas system and brakes.intermittingly, and usually during warmer weather when applying the brakes the bas light comes on, as does the light indicator.the issue is that the brake lights do not come on.there is a fault where if the bas is not working, the brake lights do not come on.they are tied together in the electronics.the bas is not required to stop the vehicle, however no brake lights because of the fault is extremely unsafe.the vehicle cannot be driven.research online has found 1000's of complaints, no resolution and typically hundreds or thousands in repair costs that do not fix the issue.the brake lights should run independently of the bas system. A common fix is connecting an inline fuse from the brake switch to the brake light, if one is mechanically inclined to do so.contacting mb states they know the issue but cannot determine the causethey also stated too costly to change the system for a % of owners.other car manufacturers have brake lights wired separately from bas systems.
I'm the owner of a 2004 chrysler crossfire.my car will not crank-up anymore because my key will not completely turn.i called for a locksmith and he informed me that my key cylinder needs replacing and only a chrysler mechanic (approx. $1200) should repair it.i've found that this is a common trend with all of the chrysler crossfires, 2004-2008.i believe this to be a manufacture defect and warrants aninvestigation and recalled.
Very dangerous---wire's get weak and corrosion start engine fire. Car computer blow up .....fire under hood.....
My car was on the highway and it shut down.no warning. No check engine light on prior to the car shutting down while driving 60 mph.when i attempted to turn it on all of the loaner lights would turn on.including the air, radio, windows etc.i tried to get a jump and nothing happened. Called for a tow truck and as soon as it showed up it cranked up.this has happened again after turning off my car and trying to start it again but nothing happens.i've heard of this happening with crossfires and it's unbelievable that there has not been a recall.also there has been no recall regarding the ignition. Problems with turning the key if removed. The key has to remain in the ignition.i've had a friend who's crossfire does that also as well as mine.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and also failed to start on several occasions. The failures recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure was unable to be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.
Ignition completely locked when key put in cannot turn at all. Dealer said the only solution is to completely replace the ignition with housing unit totaling right around $1500. Also having problems with alarm going off randomly and cannot diagnose that until ignition is fixed and car can be turned on.very expensive just to find out what is wrong with the car. Seen this problem reported all over the place and seems to be inevitable with this car but still no recall.
When trying to start car ignition is stuck cannot turn motor oncar was stationery
The skreem (sentry key remote entry module?) failed while my daughter was pumping gas. Evidently, the car cannot be started if this module is not functioning properly, thus leaving my 17 year old stranded. After much research, mostly via crossfireforum.org, it appears as though this part has an extremely high failure rate. My understanding is that the engine and components are essentially the same as the mercedes slk and that mercedes recalled the compatible module, but chrysler didn't. Moreover, this particular part can only be ordered and programmed by a chrysler dealership, which means no options and big bucks! please look into and monitor past and future complaints concerning this poorly designed/manufactured essential component in the chrysler crossfire. Thank you for your time and effort on our behalf.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. While attempting to start the vehicle, the ignition failed to start and an unusual warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ignition failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that the ignition locked, which prevented the vehicle from being driven for an extended period of time. Kernersville chrysler dodge jeep ram (950 nc-66, kernersville, nc 27284, (888) 656-5791) diagnosed that the electrical wires caused the failure. The vehicle was repaired momentarily, but the failure recurred. The dealer was contacted again and stated that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. A second dealer (ilderton dodge chrysler jeep ram, 701 s main st, high point, nc 27260, (336) 804-8536) also diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer had not issued a recall for the failure and suggested taking the vehicle to the dealer for repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Drain pipes do not drain water, causing the rain, car wash, or any excess water to drain into the car. About 2 gallons ended up on the passenger floor board. Very common problem.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that the ignition failed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis where the contact was informed that the ignition housing, ignition lock cylinder and the ignition switch would all need to be replaced. In addition, a new key would also be required. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileage was 120,000.
Its two things. I think because of one failure, it has caused another. The electronic system and over voltage, the failure of the voltage regulator in the alternator, i believe has caused the problems with the drivetrain (automatic transmission, and the hydrolic braking system) i have noticed significant pressure loss when applying brakes. In addition to that, when coming to a stop the car jerks back and forth in while in 1st or 2nd gear , as if the clutch wasn't engaging. However i could get that to jerking to stop if i applied the brakes really hard. 3-d wouldn't jerk, however it would slam down into the lower gears when coming to the stop.the electrical problem started happening back in october. The trans, and hydrolic issues just started happening may 23, 2005.
Vehicle shut down while driving and would not restart.
At 50 mph on a maryland state highway, the engine unexpectedly shut off resulting in the vehicle coasting to a stop in the traffic lane (there was no shoulder).fortunately, i was not struck by another vehicle, but it was dark and vehicles coming over a small hill and slight curve had to take evasive action to avoid a collision.the engine would crank and start briefly and then sputter to a stop.or, it would just crank and not fire or not crank at all.i was eventually, with assistance, able to push the vehicle off the roadway into a residential driveway. I had the vehicle towed to my residence for further diagnosis.the vehicle would later start and run normally for a short period, but then was plagued by a large list of issues to include: malfuncitoning indicator lights illuminated - brake light, brake wear indicator, traction control, stability control; p0600 data link loss code; vehicle not shifting out of park; speedometer not working, etc.eventually, the engine would no longer crank at all.all issues were remedied by replacing the relay control module (rcm) - a part that was, and still is, manufactured by stribel.this part has know issues related to poorly soldered connections that cause no-start conditions or cause the vehicle to stall while operating.the rcm is also plagued by failure of the internal relays (engine control, fuel pump, traction control, secondary air pump) themselves which may be hastened by overheating as a result of the poor solder joints.if it has not already happened, someone is going to be seriously injured or killed when their chrysler crossfire (or any one of a number of mercedes benz vehicles utilizing the same stribel relay) stalls due to this widely know defect and is struck by another vehicle.
While driving car at 30 mphjust died steering locked up and no response. After sitting for about an hour and restarted. Happened again about 2 days later. Hooked up to diagnosis machine and it said it was the cam shaft possession sensor that was replaced. Car ran fine for about a week and the issue began again. Hooked it up and it said it was same part. Took part back got new one no response. Took car to dealer but machine read no problem. Changed crank shaft sensor after googling similar issues but issue still exists. We have spent several dollars on parts that do not resolve the issue. I am just thankful for the first time it happened to have not been on the highway and just on a side street close to home. We have not been able to drivethe car because u never know when it may stall out and if or when it will restart. After goggling many others are having same issue and i don't know how this could possibly be safe more how no one can resolve or fix the issue. So basically paid $10,000 for a nice yard ornamnet at this time. Very frustrated and wishing chrysler would step up. Owning 3 dodge/chrysler vehicles at this time is to the point where i would never own another if this issue is not resolved soon!
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler cross fire. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. After several attempts, the contact was able to restart the vehicle yet the vehicle later stalled without warning as the contact decelerated to a stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer five times where the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
I was driving down the interstate and engine suddenly cut off and i had to push it to the side of the road, i could have been rear-ended easily. There was no power and engine would not turn over, only electronics would light up and engine fan would run at a high rate of speed.i do not understand why chrysler/mercedes would not have a recall on this yet. Apparently it is the rcm module that has bad solder points so i have heard. Very dangerous that this is happening to a vehicle with under 100k miles. It has happened before and left me stranded a couple times, and this time it would not start at all so i had to get a tow truck to tow it 27 miles home. If this happened to a new driver or elderly person this could have been very dangerous. I can't even imagine what would have happened if this happened while i was on a road trip or driving through atlanta or something.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start when the key was turned in the ignition. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to chapman chrysler (3175 e sarah avenue, las vegas, nv), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 43,802. The vin was unknown.
The vehicle was being driven on the interstate with the cruise control set.upon approaching an exit, the brakes were applied and the car lurched forward.the brakes were applied again and the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed.after several successive attempts to brake the vehicle, the cruise control was finally overridden.the dealership where the vehicle was obtained replaced the switch that governs the cruise control and braking system.this switch failed, which caused the vehicle to accelerate when the brakes were applied.according to the dealership's service department, this occurred because the vehicle identified the braking as climbing a grade and it was accelerating in order to maintain the speed at which the cruise was set.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire.in july of 2007, the motor in the vehicle began to fail intermittently.in march of 2009, the vehicle would shut down without warning.after the vehicle was parked, it would not restart.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure.the dealer believed that the failure was electrical and suggested replacing some parts in the electrical area.the contact would have to pay $300 for the part replacement.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 44,000.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that the ignition key malfunctioned and the vehicle could not be started. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 60,000.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated the ignition key failed to turn while in the ignition. After numerous attempts, over a period of two hours the key was turned. The failure occurred fourtimes. Previously when turning the key in the ignition it became extremely difficult and required force. The failure was not diagnosed nor was the vehicle repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
Early september my son experienced problem with vehicle that resulted in the car not starting when he attempted to start it at his university parking lot.all electrical worked in car (windows, radio, etc), but there was no indication of power to starter when key switch was activated. Car was towed to the purchase dealership and a repair was completed. Pulse control module was replaced on 9/12/15.net search & dealer indicated this was an issue previously seen in this make/model/year.10/2/15, while driving approximately 70 mph the car suddenly stopped running.the car was successfully pulled over to the right side. Driver was my son and he was on a major interstate with heavy traffic.roadside service came to signal vehicles of stranded vehicle.when key was turned after event, there was no start.electrical (power windows, radio, etc worked without incident.there was no starter motion when key was turned was only result.app. 40 minutes later the auto started like normal with no apparent issues.car was driven home.10/5/15 drove vehicle two times, 23 miles each with no issue.10/7/15 drove vehicle to work (23 miles) no issue.on return trip, experienced same issue.i had completed interstate driving, and was at the exit stop light in line, when car stopped running while idling at app 21 miles into return trip from work. Folks behind me assisted pushing the vehicle to side of road. Same symptoms.key doesn't result in start.waited 25 minutes and car restarted.car was returned to repair site, but they were unable to replicate the failure.car is currently returned to me on 10/15/15 and i will continue to drive it to try to establish additional factors for problem.concerned about risks due to other driver reactions due to risk of power loss while driving. Will attempt to use less traveled routes in my attempts to replicate.
My car's spoiler malfunctioned the first day; it would jam in the up position. My windshield sprayer wouldn't work either. The clock advances on its own by approximately 2 min each day. All of these problems existed from day one, as i drove off of the dealers lot. First two problems were fixed with a lot of agony. My clock hasn't been fixed. I've taken it to the dealer twice and they were unable to reproduce the "code" each time. I'm ready to return the car.
Auto/transmission/electrical system.i'm just so glad that this is a drive by wire car, especially when the cars electrical system can't regulate its voltage properly. You would think that daimler would have the electrical system built as tough as nails. Seeing that the cars life support is all dependent upon pulse power. So my complaint is do to the cars failure to regulate its power, it cooked my transmissions drive plate located internally on top of the valve body. Then surged back to the transmission control module & fried that. And some how, and i can't figure out why this occurred but, the internal gears inside my throttle body got fused together. This is strange to me seeing that the gears are made out of a composite.so with all that has occurred it has left the car lifeless for over 90 days now. I have contacted chrysler corp. Offices through there website, pleading with them to exchange the broken pieces. They only responded with "contact you dealer" so i have sent multiple "parts and service requests" to the two dealerships that i can go to. One isa " " five star dealership, and the other is not. I never once got a response from either one. Daimler said take it to the dealership, so i replied "the car does not drive", so again i requested a parts exchange, and again the same stock response "contact your dealer"...bla bla. I am more than qualified to install all parts that are needed to be replaced. I guess the rumors are all try, about chrysler turning their backs on customers once the car has been sold. All i know is i am not paying for this, or heads will roll.
Steeringwheel it lock and when i want to start the car , the key in the ignition will not move . Is the second time it happened . The first time was two years a go ( year 2010 ) when i had 30000 miles on the car ,and i had to buy a new assembly ( the lock-cylinder housing , ignition lock cylinder ,switch and the key . )now the dealer told me i need a new ignition lock cylinder and maybe a new key again ) .
Steering wheel locks, ignition will not work (car won't start accessories won't work) will need tow truck to move vehicle. Cost for repairs 1400.00 which included new key, new ignition cylinder.virtually dead in the water wherever you parked it.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that the ignition switch would lock sporadically, which prevented the contact from starting the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileage was 35,824.
Ignition problem turning the key to start my 2004 crossfire. There are times it is taking 10 to 15 minutes to start my car. I have to keep jiggling the steering wheel and repeatedly turning the key to get it to finally turn to start my vehicle. I am seeing other complaints about the same problem and believe this is a defect that chrysler should be addressing. I also now am wondering reading the other complaints if there may be a problem with the steering lock system that will cause a problem while driving. Since i am experiencing the trouble now with starting my vehicle i don't want to have problem with this locking while driving. I will be contacting the dealership in my area to see what needs to be done to fix this issue. I believe something needs to be addressed with this because being a women i don't won't to be stranded because of this issue that i feel is a defect in the design. I don't believe at 46,000 miles i should be having this issue.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact sated that the ignition failed and the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who located the failure at the ignition housing. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure and the current mielage was 112,000.
Ignition key will not turn in ignition cylinder.car can not be started.steering wheel will not unlock.the repair must be done at achrysler dealer.my repair took 7 weeks and i had to pay the entire bill of $1,600.00.
The ignition the car will not start and should have been recalle
Car shut down in traffic would not start turn ignition dead. Had to have car towed after 45min to and hour started. Broke down in city street traffic. Very scared on going traffic (stop)
Daimler chrysler have issued a recall to all merc brand cars for a voltage regulator check and replacment. The crossfire has the exact same system as the slk but has not been included in the recall, there are dozens of cases where the lights dim at stop lights and at idle where it is clearly down to the voltage not being regualted. Dc have brushed aside my complaints.
I purchased a used 2004 crossfire 8/15/2007 (yesterday) at 47k, great condition. Right off the back, it was difficult to turn the key in the ignition. The wheel was hard to turn and really hard to get the car started. I drove home, because the dealer guy started the car for me, right then i should have questioned the situation. Later that night i took the car out and was stuck in a parking lot for 2 hours. Had to get a cab home, get my fiance to come help me turn the key. He couldn't do it either. We finally seeked help from 2 guys and one was able to finally turn the key. Got home, and was not able to turn it again. I fear that the steering wheel will always do this and what if it locks while driving, like the other complaint i read. The dealer said they will pick up the car today and take a look at it.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that she was unable to turn the ignition on. The vehicle was towed to a local repair shop, where they stated that the ignition switch was defective and as a result, the ignition tumbler needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and current mileage was 79,516. Updated 08/31/11 updated 09/01/11
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. While attempting to turn left at 15 mph, the steering wheel turned, but the wheels continued forward.the contact attempted to turn the steering wheel for approximately fifteen seconds and then stopped the vehicle.the vehicle was towed to the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 44,120. The consumer stated when the vehicle was first towed to dealer was also unable to start the vehicle with the keys. The consumer stated the vehicle was released on the september 21, 2007 and driven no less than 25 miles and the malfunction happened yet again. Updated 10/10/07
Ever since i have had my chrysler crossfire the ignition cylinder has given my problems, key will not turn in cylinder, not even to position one! and this happens of a daily basis. After a few tries to jerk the steering wheel it will turn on but not the last time and took it to the dealership and they said $1250 to repair the cylinder and that may not fix the problem. Have talked to many crossfire owners and they all have had to same issue, why is this not a recall?
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle decelerated without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times. The technician diagnosed that the ignition control module, the crank shaft sensor, and crank shaft wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 96,000.
The anti braking system on the 2004 chrysler crossfire is not working correctly, the warning light comes on when you slow the vehicle or when youare braking. The warning light is the anti-brake system failure light. Also with that light, is the brake assist light indicator. Although the car is running fine and there seems to be no issue with the system the lights come on.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that after the terminal battery was replaced, the bas and esp warning indicators remained illuminated. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.updated 9/4/14the dealer replaced the battery. However, the bas/esp lights remained on.the dealer stated, he would have to deal with the other lights being on. Updated 09/18/14

I was driving 70 mph on i81 when my 2010 chrysler crossfire simply stopped running.i was beside a truck with one in front and 3 behind.barely made it to the side of the road and caused a lot of breaking and honking.the 5th time this has happened, and was extremely dangerous.... The crossfire does not start after the engine stalls and the steering wheel locks up. I'm amazed that i made it out alive each time.have spent $1800 trying to have it fixed but the chrysler dealership doesn't know what the problem is.this is ridiculous

After driving 30 miles without problems engine stalls.attempts to start it failed but when key is in on position not start position starter engages.attempted several times and each time key turned on starter engaged even without clutch depressed which is normally required, even in gear with clutch released starter engaged.have yet to get engine started tho condition continues.towed car home to my shop where im investigating this issue.

I was driving home on the highway from work and my car suddenly shuts down tried to crank it, but nothing happens all the lights and radio comes on, but the engine doesn't start. Hasn't been cranking for over a little over two weeks now. This is very dangerous could have caused a wreck to harm me or other parties. This needs to be looked in further.

Vehicle shut down while driving and would not restart.
The chrysler crossfire is a nice "looking" vehicle but i've had an issues that my engine would shutdown without warning. The car would restart upwards to about 2 hours later but would shutdown again several miles later. Took it to the dealership three times and they have not been able to sort it out. I am now unable to use the car.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler cross fire. The contact stated that intermittently while driving the vehicle will stall. As a consequence his risk of vehicle crash was increased. Also when attempting to start the vehicle it exhibits a no start condition. The vehicle was in the process of being inspected to determine the cause of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 24,000.
The engine cuts out without any pre-indications.afterward the starter will not respond although the lights work ok.the transmission locks when put in park.hours later the response stays the same.the first time it started working a day later, the second time it hasn't started yet.the dealer seems to have no idea on what to do.it left me stranded late at night.this seems to be a chronic crossfire problem.

Seems chrysler has stop producing the front turn signals for this car and cannot find aftermarket parts for it. I'm told that 7 years after the car leaves production that the production of the parts are stopped. I cannot got to mercedes since it does not have a mercedes part number and any cross reference number that is given does not work for mercedes. Any help would be appreciated.
Late model cars of all makes have these clear plastic head lamps that turn discolored and yellow and do not illuminate properly after a few years and are very expensive to replace. The auto manufacturers should be able to make a headlight that lasts for a very long time, not 4, 5 or 6 years. How come tail lamps and directional light do not have this problem?
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that the field of vision was limited because the plastic covers on the head lamps were severely fogged up. The contact also stated that the failure occurred when the vehicle while still under warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.
While driving on 08/17/14 my crossfire suddenly stalled and would not restart.i had to have the vehicle towed to a local chrysler dealer for repairs.the following repairs were needed:fuel pump#14073001filter fu #14029003relay non #08052328these seem to be the same parts recently recalled on jeep vehicles.will chrysler add my crossfire to the recall list?what can i do?
1st gear will pop out of gear during acceleration.increases risk factor of accident if vehicle pops out of gear while making a turn with oncoming traffic.service bulletin issued but no recal ever issued
Car pops out of first gear on take off almost got rear ended once and hit broad side by a truck when trying to merge into trafic. Chrysler had issued a technical bulletin for this problem . I fully belive this was and is a safty issue and should be listed as such.
As i've read on here, this car has a tendency to drop out of 1st gear on take off.this happens frequently enough that i've studied whether my hand on the shift or not makes a difference.it doesn't.just why chrysler thinks this isn't a defect is beyond comprehension.its a 6 speed and i quit using 1st gear, too unpredictable, or rather too predictable as i know its going to drop out.

Car pops out of fist gear about every 100-200 miles.i have taken it to the chrysler dealership four times.each time they perform what "star" recommends.this never helps the problem.the car still pops out of gear. Now i'm told because there unable to duplicate the problem, nothing else will be done.i explained to the dealer it does it between 100-200 miles.the tech's only drive the car 3-6 miles.
The contact owns 2004 chrysler crossfire. While the contact was driving approximately 5 mph into his driveway, there was a loud noise outside of the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and detected that the clutch spring bracket disengaged from the vehicle and fell on the ground. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the technician confirmed that the cause of failure was contributed to the clutch spring bracket. The vehicle was being repaired when the complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 23,000. Updated 01/06/11updated 03/02/11
Chrysler cross fire 2004. The manual transmission violently slips out of first gear into neutral after the car is moving the vechile and the clutch is disengaged. Albeit infrequently. This causes a very dangerous situation, crossing traffic that isn't controlled via a sign or light. Or, at any stop with someone behind you. In the 1,500 miles i've driven the car since i purchased it, i have narrowly avoided being rear-ended three times due to this problem. The dealership's service personnel have observed and verified the tendancy of it to slip from gear, (however chrysler stars reponded that the problem wasn't frequent enough to repair). Leaving each start into traffic is the chance of a collision.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire.while traveling 20 mph, the vehicle's gears are slipping into first and second gear, causing the vehicle to shut off.the contact must restart the vehicle in order for the gears to function properly.the chrysler dealer referenced service bulletin # 2100505.the current mileage is 10,000 and failure mileage was 9,000.
The 6 speed transmission pops out of first gear on an intermitent basis when starting off.this problem has been ongoing since we purchased the car new.

However, the bas/esp lights remained on.the dealer stated, he would have to deal with the other lights being on. Updated 09/18/14

When putting key into ignition, you can not disengage steering column to start car, steering wheel stays locked and you can not turn key.
When putting key into ignition, you can not disengage steering column to start car, steering wheel stays locked and you can not turn key. This just started this year on 2004 crossfire.
Design of vehicle did not allow for camber adjustment to front tires unless a weld is cut and a new piece is installed.therefore, over time the camber of the tires can became such that the front tires wear on the inside edge that cannot be seen by the owner of the vehicle during a normal walk around inspection.this places the owner of the vehicle in a position that a tire which appears to be in good condition when inspected, may blow out without notice when at highway speeds.it would seem that a manufacturer's design that requires a weld to be cut and a new part installed at a later date to allow for a simple tire alignment adjustment and may lead to a potential tire failure until discovered by the owner, is not a vehicle design which incorporates a high degree of safety engineering.
Vehicle leaks water into driver side compartment every time it rains. As it does so the blower motor fills with water and can lead to a fire starting in the cars cabin. Chrysler was contacted but no repair was offered though this problem is a manufacturing defect.

The problem is same as below. Hyundai is recalling 91,202 my 2002-2003 hyundai sonata vehicles. Repeated use of the interior door handle may cause wear of the chrome plate. If the top edge of the handle has very thin chrome plating, that portion of the plating may wear away more easily than more thickly plated areas as the door handle is used. The worn chrome plating on the upper edge of the handle may result in a crack or separation between the chrome plating on the inboard and outboard surfaces of the handle, which may form a sharp edge.2004 chrysler crossfire.
The wrapping of the interior driver's side door grip appears to have begun to separate on the inside and is pealing.a sharp edge of the metal is being exposed and as a result, i have cut my left hand fingers on several occasions when closing the door. The passenger side is also beginning to exhibit similar problems for the door grip.
Drain pipes do not drain water, causing the rain, car wash, or any excess water to drain into the car. About 2 gallons ended up on the passenger floor board. Very common problem.
The passenger side rear stabilizer body mount bracket was found to be 90% separated from the body.the mount bracket has 4 weld points on the body frame.the welds are electrical welds.one break was along the weld at the junction point of the bracket to the body.the other 2 separations were along the midpoint of the bracket support legs.the rearward support legs are approximately 1 inch wide.both were broken.the forward legs are approximately 1 half inch wide and one was broken on the outboard passenger side.the driver side bracket shows no sign of problems.the thickness of the steel in the bracket is approximately 3/32 inches.this vehicle was involved in a low speed front end collision approximately 3 years prior to this problem forming.images are available.
Dt*: the contact stated there was a chrome piece as the handle in the passenger inside door panel that was peeling.a passenger sliced the index and middle finger on the right hand when closing the right passenger door.the passenger was taken to the hospital.
The metal wrapping of the interior driver's side door grip has separated on the inside and is pealing, exposing the sharp edge of the metal.as a result, i cut three (3) of my fingers, which required nine (9) stitches, three (3) in each finger.the passenger side is also beginning to separate and peal.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving the vehicle going 55 to 60 mph it started vibrating.the vehicle was taken back to the dealership four times within a six week period.the dealership inspected the vehicle the first time and could not duplicate the problem. After driving the vehicle for a short amount of time it was taken back a second time having the same problems.the dealership balanced the wheels and stated the vibration should go away.this did not fix the problem; the vehicle still vibrated at various speeds.it was taken back to the dealership once again, but the problem could not be duplicated.after driving a week or so the vehicle was taken back this time all four tires were replaced. This still has notfixed the problem.the dealership states there is nothing mechanically wrong with the vehicle.the manufacturer has been alerted.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire. The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle was not aligned. The failure recurred multiple times. The dealer was unable to locate the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

I get my x-fire maintained at maplewood dodge -chrysler dealership service center in maplewood nj. I first took in for new brakes in nov. 2005 and also asked them to check the rear right wheel because it was making a metal rattle noise when i go over bumps. They told me that they had to order a right front strut. They called me and said that they had to replace the front strut and released it to me. Jan 3, 2006, i returned to the service center with the same noise problem. They kept my car for 7 days. I was told that they had to order a rear strut for my car. I asked why did they replace the front strut. I was told that they did not replace it, they just ordered it. (first lie)three 3 days in on jan 6, 2006 i asked about my car and service rep chuck said "what's up bro. I asked about the status of my vehicle. He said "if it was ready i'd called you". Yes i'm a black man, but i am not his bro. I am a customer. I made a complaint to the service manager al. Nothing was done.i came back on tue. Jan. 10, 2005. While waiting to talk to al the manager, he was talking to the mechanic who assigned to work on my car and chuck. Unknowing of my presence, al say to them that he needed them to look into what is going on with the white crossfire, the customer has been in a rental for close too 5 days. The mechanic say "so,that is not my problem". That is a problem!i ask chuck, exactly what is wrong with my car. He look at me and said "i don't know" i ask, did any one look at my car, because everytime i call here you tell me that they are working on it. He then called the mechanic and i ask him what part is being ordered for my car if any. I looked at chuck then me and said "i don't know". No one there could tell me why they had my car for 5 days or what part is being ordered or if any needed to be ordered. Then the person assigned to work on my car said "i'm not even qualified to work on that car.now it is wed. Jan. 11, 2006 and i still don't have my car.
I have a 2004 crossfire.i took the vehicle in for an oil change and rear tire exchange (sold with michelin sports and had to purchase continental all season for midwest winter driving) that i had three bent rims on the vehicle.the bent rims were two on front and one rear.the damage according to the dealer techwas probably due to "potholes".my issue is 1)what constitutes normal driving?potholes are a normal factor in life with the us road system.2)the technician stated thatthe bent wheel was an issue with the low profile tires used on crossfire and sebring products.i have not found any reports on this, so am using this mechanismto file formal product report on wheel reliability and safety.i travel 45 miles one way on interstate driving.what can happen with bent wheels at 70mph?the wheels cost $ 400+ for the front and $ 500 plus for the rear.does the consumer have to continually pay for poor design?

Car shut down in traffic would not start turn ignition dead. Had to have car towed after 45min to and hour started. Broke down in city street traffic. Very scared on going traffic (stop)
Vehicle shut down while driving and would not restart.
Failure in key and ignition.the key will not turn so the car can not even be towed.this is such a common failure yet no recall.now the car is stuck in a parking lot.60 miles from my home.
The contact owns a 2004 chrysler crossfire.while driving between 5-60 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed.the vehicle would not accelerate without warning.the contact pulled over and was restarted.the failure stopped after the vehicle was restarted.the failure occurred intermittently.the dealer was unable toduplicate or repair the failure.the failure mileage was 32,000 and current mileage was 34,150.updated 03-04-08 the consumer was told the problem was the accelerator pedal sensor. Once it was replaced, the problem stopped.
2004 chrysler crossfire has a radio screen that cannot be adjusted for brightness in any light. It is no visibly in daylight and a true road hazard while driving at high speeds. No response to many owners from chrysler-see page chrysler crossfire forum for much more info. These radios need to be fixed or changed asap.*nlm
