2000 cirrus 2.5l engine randomly stalls and frost / freeze plugs rust through.stalling:engine stops running while car is being driven at any speed, which leaves the operator with no power steering or brakes. No trouble codes are displayed or pending. After a period of time, roughly 20 minutes, the engine will start and run fine for several days or weeks. When stalled, if you activate the alarm system and lock and unlock the doors it seems to clear the anti-theft system and allow the fuel pump to run, which allows the engine to start. Haven't crashed yet, however we have had several harrowing experiences. The internet is full of chrysler owners with this same random stalling issue, to which they have spent thousands of dollars replacing sensors....etc only to find that the car continues this random stalling behavior. Bottom line, they sell the car, which moves this dangerous issue on to another unsuspecting owner. Bottom line the engine should not randomly stop during operation, and if it does shutdown as programmed in the computer due to a pending or perceived mechanical issue, the trouble codes should be activated. Chrysler knows this is and issue and they have chosen to ignore this life threatening defect, hoping it will go away with time.frost or freeze plugs are rusting out, never in my 40 years of driving have i had a car that did this. Looked on the internet and again this is a common issue with chrysler. Save 50 cents cost the customer owner thousands. I fixed two plugs front and back on engine however now the plugs between the transmission and engine are leaking do to rust. Yes i've changed the coolant and this started in 2004 when i purchased the car.
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler cirrus.after being previously driven, the vehicle caught fire five minutes after it was parked.the vehicle was never repaired under recall because the dealer stated that it was fine and did not need repairing.the contact feels that the dealer should be responsible for the failure.the recall number was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 123,000.

I have been looking for the fuel filler neck for my 2000 chrysler cirrus for over a month. It has been on factory backorder and from what i have been told it is not even being made...leaving me with a car that is unsafe to drive. Also, because the part rusted out it ended up damaging my fuel pump and i needed to replace it...costing me over $300 alone.
2000 chrysler cirrus lx 2.4 liter engine.car parked, with engine off.fire starts in engine compartment, started by either the fuel lines on the top of the engine or the power steering unit on the rear left of the engine by the reservoir.there were no signs of overheating, no smoke and no strange noises prior to the fire.the fire started approximately 10 mins after i got out of the vehicle.
While driving at any speedvehicle lost power withoutprior warning. This has happenedthree times, onecepower went low. Another time,it stalled.third time, engine went low, butdid not lose power. Thechnician replaced fuel pump/ computer, and part offuel tank.
While driving 2000 dodge stratus i experienced a fuel pump failure.upon inspection of the fuel pump it clearly shows a short of the four wire electrical wire connection that is housed within the fuel tank.this failure did not result in an explosion or fire however if conditions were right this could have caused fire or an explosion of the fuel cell potentially resulting in loss of property and life.i have the part and photographs which are available upon request.

Chrysler cirrus lxi 2000with 65,000 miles on this car i am now going for my third set of brakes not counting the brakes the car came with.the second time i replaced them i had to get rotors also.i will never buy another chrysler.*nlm
Front disc brakes began making noise, mechanic checked and found the rotor surface was delaminating and informed me that this happens on all chrysler cirrus's they have worked on this year. This may answer some of the other complaints listed in this section. Also, the 15" wheels mounted on the lxi model cirrus's, take 14" brakes. The suspension on the lxi is only designed for the 14" wheels, due to this effort on chrysler's part to save money, the lxi owners are driving vehicles with incorrect suspension and wheels. This is on all chrysler cirrus vehicles, that is why there are steering, suspension and brake problems.
Driver went to make a panic stop , applied absbrakes hard, but vehicle did not seem tostop ,causing a rear end accident. Please provide further information.

When applyingbrakespedal stiffens and the vehicle does not stop right away. Dealer has seen vehicle, and cannot duplicate the problem.
When driving vehicle stopping time is reduced and brakes shake upon appying normal pressure.sometimes they make noise.contacted dealer and told it was due to brake dust accumulated.
I reported this incident to nhtsa earlier. Odi id = 862355, never received a follow up questionaire. The damage estimate was to the cirrus only. No idea of damage to the other vehicles. Brakes were checked bycrown collision after repairs were made and no problem found. Stopping distance still seems longer than i have and still experience in my old non abs braking system car. Strongly feel accident would not have occurred if brakes were not abs.
While depressingbrake pedal vehicle continued to travel.brake pedal became hard. Dealer has been contacted, they were unable to duplicate the problem. *ml

Complaint received via e-mail. We own a 2000 chrysler cirrus lx and a 2003 chrysler van, so the cirris is only driven about 4000 miles a year. I have been having an ongoing problem with the brakes, which i have complaint about each time it's serviced. The dealership tells me it's just dust in them. The vehicle was in for inspection, and they said the brakes had disintegrated, the rotors needed replacement and the back cylinders were leaking.the brake pads are hardly worn in the center, but are disintegrating in the ends. Them manufacture indicated that the brake pads disintegrated from non-use. I spoke to other chrysler van owners and they are having the same problem. After checking the vehicle the mechanic found the cylinders leaking so they were replaced.*tc

2000 chrysler cirrus safety recall e23- high pressure power steering hose customer feels unsafe in the car**ccthe consumer made an appointment to have the repair done. The dealer had the vehicle for over 7 hours. One mechanic told the consumer the vehicle had not been repaired and then another mechanic told her it was ready to pick up. The consumer took the vehicle to her own local mechanic, and he told her it looked as though the hose had not been replaced.
I receiveda recall notice in the mail from chrysler.the recall was for a high pressure power steering hose.smith chrysler made the repair on 07-06-06.when i started the car i noticed that the drive belts were slipping and making a strange sound.later that night i jacked up the vehicle and inspected the work that was performed. I found power steering fluid on numerous parts pf my engine and frame.there was also fluid on the belts which was causing them to slip.on 07-07-2006 , i returned to the dealer to have the fluid cleaned.when i arrived at my home later that day i noticed that there was still power steering fluid on some parts of my car.i called the general manager and made a complaint.the manager interviewed the mechanic and found out that there was a lot of fluid lost while replacing the hose.i was never told why they parked my car on the ready line with so much flammable liquid on it that my belts were slipping.the general manager now wants me to return a third time.i am concerned that the fluid might catch on fire.i have been cleaning it up for over one hour now. Can you help me with these people ........the very least that needs to be done is a engine wash............thank you.
I had just parked my car in my friends driveway. While getting out i noticed there was smoke coming from under the hood. The fireman made a report and took pictures. The fire damaged the electrical wiring, piping and hoses, and anything else that was a composed of plastic melting in the vehicle. I received a letter in the mail about the safety recall on my vehicle.the safety recall number is e23 (06v001000) for the 2000 chrysler cirrus.i brought my vehicle into a local dealership to have the problem fixed on saturday june 3, 2006 at the courtesy chrysler jeep of sanford located at 1100 rhinehart rd, sanford, fl, 32771.i scheduled an appointment for 10 am and my car was not ready until2:30 pm (4 1/2 hours later).later that evening i checked my power steering fluid to make sure it had been properly filled.i discovered that there was no power steering fluid at all on the dip stick and that my air filter compartment was undone.i looked inside the air filter compartment and found a wrench laying on top on the air filter.i brought my vehicle in to resolve a safety issue but instead another safety issue was created.that was my first time having my car serviced at a chrysler dealer and will be the last!i would like to be informed of what actions are taken upon receiving this letter of complaint about the inexcusable service i received.thank you.

I bought a car from a dealership in birmingham, al not knowing the car had a recallconcerning the hydraulic poqwer assist pump, and it burned after having it for only 2 months.

The lower ball joint is very loose and making alot of noise.there was a recall for lower ball joint failure for this car. Don't understand why my car is not part of the recall.
After the car is driven for 30 or 40 minutes, a sharp tapping sound can be heard coming from the engine compartment. Some sort of "kick" can also be felt through the steering wheel. The longer the car is driven, the louder the sound and the more pronounced the kickback in the steering wheel, at times fairly violent. The taps/knocks occur as many as several times per second, then stop for a few minutes, then return. The occurrence is nonrotational (ie, happens at equal intervals whether at highway speeds or in a parking lot) and has nothing to do with road surface conditions. Chrysler technical service bulletin (tsb) 19-02-99 rev a, dated 10/99, describes this problem. I've brought the car to two chrysler dealers a total of four times, who mostly claim they can find nothing wrong. On one occasion, tenafly jeep... Claims to have replaced the steering column (part #4690543-am) under warranty pursuant to the tsb, but the noise and kick returned within the first 2 hours i drove the car on the highway. Note that the tsb applies to 69 different chrysler/plymouth/dodge configurations from 1995 to 2000. According to the dealership, the replacement steering column they installed carries the same part number as the old, meaning they continue to install known faulty replacement parts, perhaps hoping the car will be sold before the problem reappears. Bottom line: i'm stuck with a car the dealer won't fix under warranty and which i can neither sell (without disclosing the material defect) nor drive comfortably (i don't want to be killed when the steering assembly flies apart one day).
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler cirrus. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel would shake and the vehicle was difficult to keep in the lane. Additionally, there was an abnormal sound while driving over bumps in the roadway. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the ball joints were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

Dt: the contact statedtookvehicle to a service dealer because the vehicle has difficulty starting. When the key was turned over, the vehicle would not start, almost causing the battery to die.when the vehicle finally did start it had a rough idle, butcontinued to run.this only happened during the morning when the contactfirst started the vehicle.the contactwas afraid to drive the vehicle out of town because it may not start back up. The consumer rented a vehicle any time he needed to go out of town.the vehicle was towed to the service dealer on two occasions.the service dealer replaced the throttle position sensor, but this did not remedy the problem.the service dealer couldnot duplicate the problem, but did say the next time this happened to contact them and they will come out and look at the vehicle.

External power mirrors do not have heating system installed, although it is supposed to be according to the owner's manual. Cannot adjust the mirrors when they freeze. Dealership say's chrysler did not provide the heated mirrors for year 200 cirrus, although the fuse panel has the heated mirror fuse installed.dealership say's they can't help with this situation.this is a safety hazard because the mirrors cannot be adjusted properly. This component was always installed on all prior year models and is not an optional cost item.it was just not installed, period!
Back windshield cracked with two holes on opposite sides. It blew from the inside out. Dealer said there was a defect with the vehicle pressure build up.
