The distributor has gone out twice (2x) on my 1999 chrysler cirrus. The first time was in 2007 while i was sitting in a car wash. I thought perhaps some water had splashed in and shorted something out. So i didn't report it. But the second time was on friday, may 29th. We were driving on the i-210 freeway in the carpool lane - near azusa, ca. Suddenly the car lost all power and i had to pull across 5 lanes of traffic in order to safely get off the freeway. It was very scary and very dangerous. If i had not been able to pull over, the car would just have stopped dead on a busy freeway on the friday afternoon of the memorial day weekend. I asked the mechanic at clippinger chrysler in covina where we had the car towed if the distributor went out often on their cars. He said it was "rare." i think that the fact that it has gone out twice on my car in the past 2 years is very strange and could constitute a serious defect.

About 2 years ago, my car began stuttering and stalling out with no warning.the oil light repeated flashes on, the check engine light flashes and then stays on, and the car wont start or just cuts off.the transmission speed sensor was replaced.the transmission was replaced.the oil was changed.this past 3 months alone, it has been at the service department 6 times for this same problem.i am now being told that i need a tune-up, which will cost $700, then the egr needs replaced, and a few other things.however, when the mechanic had it last week, he could not find anything wrong with it.i have found out that the cirrus vehicles have this same problems that i am having.i was on my way to the mall via the parkway when the car stalled out.luckily traffic was slow because if i was on the parkway and it stalled out, my sister and i could have gotten killed.there is no predetermined time when these problems occurred.the car only has 89500 miles on it.i have all of my original repair papers.proper maintenance has always been done on my car.when it works, it is great.unfortunately, i just never know when it is going to not start.

The upper hinge on the driver side door has snapped and causing a loud popping noise when opened.i am afraid the door is going to fall off.the dealership has not been notified as of yet.i cant afford to take it in.i alos wanted to complain about the fact that i have had to have the engine decarbed 3-5 times.dealer states that it is considered normal by chrysler that the engine has severe carbon build up and that it may some day cause my heads to crack.i dont feel that is right and i should not be responsible if it does happen.general motors offers their customers component coverage letters when they have a concern like this with the engine to show thier customers that they stamp behind their product.i think that chrysler needs something like this.
I am getting crankcase fumes in the passenger area which make me drowsy. My concern is i may have an accident.

Unknown fumes are getting into the passenger area of my 1999 chrysler cirrus causing drowsiness, and poor health. The chrysler dealer claims the problem is with aftermarket undercoating material being heated by the exhaust. The undercoating dealer, kastner's rust shield, 40 clark, aurora, il 630-897-3609, said he is unaware of any problems with fumes. My personal opinion is that they are combustion fumes. Whatever the origin, the fumes are becoming unbearable. Thisvehicle safety defect has me not only feeling like sam saddriver, but also like an accident waiting to happen. Thomas ortega.
I purchased a 1999 chrysler cirrus from linnes nissan west in stanhope nj 8 months ago. Since then, i've been having dangerous problem with this car. I took it back around 5 times to nissan. They gave me the run around. At one time during the winter my oil light,battery light came on,the car would cut off..i called nissan and told them the problem.they instructed me to take it to nissan in bloomfield. My car was there one week.they called and said they haven't found any problem. So i went to pick up my car.i was about 10 minutes away and it cut off again. I was stuck on the street in winter storm trying to get this car started. I called nissan in stanhope to tell them bloomfield didn't fix my car because it cut out on me again. The next morning nissan in stanhope came to my house and had my car towed to them. My car was there for three or four days.a few month's pass. Around april or may, i purchased a new battery from sears.one month later my battery light comes on while driving home from work. So i brought the car to nissan in stanhope. They look at it and said it was my battery but i had just purchase that battery a few weeks with that time frame. So i took it back to sears they installed another battery and said if this matter happens again take it back to nissan as it might be my alternator . A few week ago, this occured again so i called nissan and they aren't trying to help me out at all. I'm so fed up with this car & nissan.

When consumerapplied gas, vehicle would hestitate.when consumer took off gas tank and fuel pumphe found burningwire inside and outside of gas tank. Dealershipwas aware ofproblem. Consume rreplaced the fuel pump and the problem has ceased.
Consumer states that the check engine light in the vehicle came on.the dealership examined the vehicle and informed the consumer that the vehicle was safe to drive if the window is kept open.the dealership ordered a new fuel pump and replaced the component two weeks later.upon examination of the old fuel pump, the wires of the pump looked as if they were burned.consumer feels that this is a safety defect.please provide any additional information.
Consumer states while driving home, vehicle decelerated and stopped running while being driven under cruise control, incident continued to happen on several occasions where vehicle would decelerate and cut off repeatedly, consumer took vehicle to dealership and was informed that problem could not be duplicated, the vehicle stalled again, consumer contacted dealership and was advised to bring vehicle in for inspection, consumer was then told that the fuel pump was replaced which seemed to have solved the problem.
(1)a 1999 chysler cirrus was run to near empty on gas.the gauge read between a quarter tank and empty on the way to the gas station.upon arriving at the gas station the tank was filled.after filling with gas, i proceeded to try after start my car and it failed to function.my husband who is a self-employeed mechanic thought it to be a problem with the fuel pump.(2)upon removal of the gas tank unit and the fuel pump assembly, we found there to be a possible hazard with the wiring harness located inside of the gas tank unit itself.the wires actually began to melts together instead of disturbing the fuel pump fuse located nuetrally on the fuse panel in another area of the car.we feel that if the melting of the wires had been more intense that there could have been an explosion due to the mixture of heat and combustable gases/fumes.(3)the fuel pump was replaced with a new unit and installed.
While driving the engine light illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who found that fuel vapors were leaking from the gas tank.the dealer replaced the fuel tank seals, but the engine light continued to illuminate.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the mechanic determined that thevehicle should not be driven because of safety precautions and recommended replacing the fuel tank.the seal was replaced again however there was a small indentation where tank seal fit. *sc
I just felt this problem needed to be reported since it involved gas leakage.my vehicle started by leaking a small amount of gas and then progressed to larger volumes.i beleived this was possibly a problem that needed to be reported since it could involve injuries if left undetected and unrepaired.

1999 chrysler cirrus, will not start after rain. There is no distributor and i feel that it could be a problem with the fuel system. I pump the gas and try to turn it over it just cranks sometimes it does eventually start. I have missed days of work. So when ever it rains i am always worried, this happens often.
Gas guage stated well over a fourth , service manager said the gas tank concaved giving a false reading.car had to be towed and gas lines had to be flushed out.tow bill plus repair bill over $200.00.service manager said it was a defect with the gas tank. (hot weather made it concave)said to replace gas tank cost would cost over $600.00.i orginally bought this car in winston salem, nc at northpoint chrysler but i took it for service to the mount airy , nc location, patterson chrysler.

I was driving to work on highway 302 when suddenly the speedometer needle moved to zero, the check engine light came on, then the transmission shifted to first gear locking the wheels almost causing a wreck, all of this happened within two to three seconds not much time to slow down.dodge/chrysler wouldn't cover the cost since i bought a program car as is no warranty, but before i purchased it, they did a bumper to bumper check and stated everything checked out, the very next day after i purchased the car, the rear power windows failed, a year later i had a flat and the compact spare they put in the trunk when i bought the car didn't match the bolt pattern,on 12/26/02 the pin in the differential of the transaxle came loose and destroyed the transmission and will cost $2,600.00 to replace.chrysler surely out did themselves with this lemon and luckily for me i avoided two major accidents, and 15transmission shops stated this is the most common problem with this make.i can't believe you have not made chrysler recall the defective speed sensor and defective transmission which can cause a devastating wreck without warning.scc****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****770796

I currently own a 1999 chrysler cirrus v6. Auto is equipped with a 41te automatic transmission with104,000 miles on it.according to alweb sites i have come to find that the 41te automatic transmission has proven to be an unreliable unit resulting in premature failure and bearing failure. Chrysler has refused to acknowledge the defect. As of this writing the pinion bearings have failed in my vehicle and chrysler has refused to repair as this is an ongoing problem with this transmission for which the manufacturer denies an responsibility. There are thousands of people like me out there with no recourse. Gear shift moves without depressing the brake.
Nhtsa recall 04v021000 on the floor shift ignition park interlock. After having a new load-limitingpush rod into the floor shifter lever installed, the check engine light appeared on the dashboard. Consumer was also having problem shifting gears. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic could not duplicate the problem please provide further details.

I have a 1999 chrysler cirrus. My wife took the car for the day 10/15/08, she called me at work to say the brakes were making a very loud grinding noise. The next day i drove the car to the dealer to have the brakes serviced. On the way over, the brake pads completely stopped functioning. I had to down shift to stop. I drove at 10 mph or slower the last mile to the dealer. They told me the rotors needed to be replaced along with the brakes. This car had no brakes. What troubles me, is that the brake pads had no wear indicators on them. Had i heard the screeching of the indicators, i would have had the pads replaced sooner. I had no idea the pads was that bad. A few days earlier, i was in rhode island to visit my daughters. I was traveling at highway speeds. This could have caused a bad accident had the brakes failed then. The dealer told me that not all brake pads have these wear indicators. I think this is a safety issue that should be addressed. The cost of including these on all brake pads couldn't be that much. Pass the cost on if they have to.
Brakes failed at approx 30,000 miles with no indication (brake noises, brake pressure, nothing) resulting in 30-35 mile collision at stop light extensive vehicle damage. Got ticketed, lost case. 30,000 miles-perfect.

Sudden acceleration when applying brakes intermittently. Vehicle been in dealer shop on three occasions, and unable to duplicate problem. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

When applying the brakes there is a pulsation.delaer says the rotors are warped and need to be replaced.
Every eight to ten thousand miles the rotors warped. Whilestopping at 70 mph steering wheel felt as if it was going to come right out of consumer's hands. Consumer stated that chryslermanufactured the vehicle with the wrong part. The brakes were worked on three times. But, problem recurred.
While driving the brake vacuum hose completely came off, causing total brake failure. Consumer applied the emergency parking brake to stop the vehicle.
Bolt on the steering column connected to the base pertrudes.when making a turn bolt grabs the rug, causing the rug to jam between the accelerator pedal and the steering column. Dealer has inspected vehicle. The customer states that something is missing when the steering column connects to steering linkage at the floor.the dealer syas there is nothing wrong.

While traveling west bound on i-10, a vehicle cut me off my lane, i swerved to the right and at this moment the car left the road the right ,came back across the road to the left traveling w/b in the median for a shor distance before going right crossing back over i-10, striking a guardrail, flipping over it and coming to a rest against a tree. I tried to correct the car but took of to the left very sharpely, i was unable to control the car which i suspect was due to faulty steering mechanism. Please advise if any other accidents have happen similar to mine due to steering failure.

Light bulb in the trunk is too intense with no protective cover, causing a foam pillowto catch on fire, and resulting in2nd to 3rd degree burns .

While driving, there was a tremendous bang, and then the vehicle started to swerve, consumer pulled off to the side and discovered the entire tire had separated, therre was really nothing left on the michelin-x-green mx4-195/65/r15 tire for the tire shop to prorate, mechanic informed consumer that the stem tore off the tire.8jb

Paint has begun to blister on hood.rust visible on underside of hood, but hood not yet perforated.chrysler says not covered unless metal has been perforated by rust.
Design of dashboard reflects on windshield causing distraction and poor visibility which could result in an accident.

When vehicle was put into drive it suddenly accelerated out of a bank parking lot without foot being on accelerator pedal, vehicle accelerated across the street into a commuter parking lot. Vehicle impacted a truck and 2 cars in another parking lot. Then, crossed street and went up onto a curb.consumer's wrist was broken, and had bruised knees/legs.dealership and insurance company notified.

I was driving to work on highway 302 when suddenly the speedometer needle moved to zero, the check engine light came on, then the transmission shifted to first gear locking the wheels almost causing a wreck, all of this happened within two to three seconds not much time to slow down.dodge/chrysler wouldn't cover the cost since i bought a program car as is no warranty, but before i purchased it, they did a bumper to bumper check and stated everything checked out, the very next day after i purchased the car, the rear power windows failed, a year later i had a flat and the compact spare they put in the trunk when i bought the car didn't match the bolt pattern,on 12/26/02 the pin in the differential of the transaxle came loose and destroyed the transmission and will cost $2,600.00 to replace.chrysler surely out did themselves with this lemon and luckily for me i avoided two major accidents, and 15transmission shops stated this is the most common problem with this make.i can't believe you have not made chrysler recall the defective speed sensor and defective transmission which can cause a devastating wreck without warning.scc****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****770796
On two separate occasions, three days apart, nothing worked in the car except the ignition.fuses are fine but all gauges and equipment (wipers, ac, windows, gauges, remote entry, headlights and tailights) did not work.car was standing still when problem was identified.
