My car will stall out in low or idol. It would just shut off. While driving and switching gears it will sound like its missing. I took it to get it smog. They said that the computer in the car was resetting every time i start the car. They also said that it was doing the same problem as the chrysler cirrus 1996 was doing.
Dt:on july 3 the consumer's vehicle caught fire.the insurance company hired an investigator and they found it started on the lock on the driver's side door.the police and fire department were both called.the vehicle had not been in use for four hours.the fire originated on the upper front of the left door trim panel adjacent to the dash.the fire originated at the location of the power mirror and lock switches on the upper front of the door trim panel.it is evident that the fire was caused by a malfunction that caused high resistance heating in one of the switches.the exact switch that caused the overheating could not be determined because of the fire damage.the following are incidents that occurred before the fire:the vehicle would take up to ten minutes before it would catch.the vehicle would lose power at times.the dealer replaced the solenoid which may have not of cured the problem.a few days after the solenoid replacement, the problem recurred.the dealer placed a new distributor in the vehicle and stated that the wires need to be replaced.*sc
I have a 1998 chrysler cirrus with 84,730 miles on it. This car keeps shutting off while i am driving.i've been told i need to replace the computer, the fuel injection system, crankshaft/camshaft sensors, new battery- you name it i've been told.now my check engine light is on as well as my oil light and no one can tell me what needs to be done!the following website, www.carsurvey.org/reviews/chrysler/cirrus/r64403/comments/page-5/, has a list of complaints about this vehicle and the same problem people have experienced- sudden stop syndrome.something needs to be done about this car because i have four children and i do not like risking our lives, but it is my only mode of transportation.i cannot afford to make these costly repairs, especially when no one can tell me what is wrong.the brake pedal becomes hard to operate and if i go under 15 mph, it will shut off.sometimes it won't even turn back on for at least 10-15 minutes.i thought i was the only one with this problem, but i'm not and chrysler needs to be held responsible!
1.complete electrical failure while speed was at 45mph caused full brake pressure to be applied to vehicle in traffic.vehicle would not restart.i was informed after service a bolt was missing having something to do with the alternator.i asked what could cause this.the response from the service advisor was "it probably was never tightened on at the factory."2. Fog lights failed twice first time i was told "the saudering at the junction sometimes does last long initially"the second failure is unresolved3. Dash instrument panel illumination failure is unresolved.
I bought my car in feb 2014 used with a little under 70,000 miles.overall the vehicle was in excellent condition with a few minor paint issues.within the 1st week of buying it i noticed the check engine light would come on and act like it would stall, or would actually stall all together once coming to a complete stop. The scariest is when you are driving on a highway & the car looses all power!i have learned is if i throw it into neutral then the power will come back up & i don't have to come to a complete stop most of the times.i have taken it to my mechanic who i have used for over 10 yrs & he still has not been able to find the cause, he said the check engine light code is coming back as the park/neutral switch (which would be the transmission and costly and could not guarantee this would fix the problem).last week my car died & i had to have it towed since it would not start. Ended up being the fuel pump, but when they put the new fuel pump, the pcm shorted it out so that ended up being replaced as well as the crank shaft sensor .he thought this would have fixed the problem but sadly it is still happening :( this is very frustrating to see that so many people have the same issue and yet chrysler is still not issuing a recall for this.when someone like me has a kid(s), it makes it very scary every time you get in to drive not knowing what will happen.as a single parent, i can not keep putting in thousands of dollars for a problem that should have already been identified and recalled and fixed. I have had the car for almost a year and still wont drive outside of orlando for the fear of breaking down too far from home.please find what is causing this and recall so i can stop throwing money away on senseless fixes!!
Car stops while driving and also doesn't start on some days and not others.you can be going 60mph on the highway and car will stop for no reason and then start up again after sitting for a while.i've had an engine code reading with no codes showing. Replaced battery, spark plugs and wires, plume gasket, crank shaft sensor, rotor cap and button.i am now getting a "no bus" reading when it won't start.it's getting a spark and tries to turn over.i have looked up this problem and there are numerous complaints about the same problem with nobody knowing, including the dealerships, as to how to fix this problem.if something is not done soon, someone is going to die from this.this has been happening for 4 months with three trips to the shop.it will drive fine for a couple of days and then you go to start it and it won't.or you're driving on the highway or regular streets and the car will stop.it's scary when you have a semi on your behind flying at you and all you can do is pray that you can get over to side of the highway with your car when it's stopped.this is a recipe for disaster.please help.please look this up on the internet with a google search and see that this is a big problem for so many consumers of this car.there really should be a recall.
My 1998 chrysler cirrus with only 75000 miles on it was sitting in the driveway for 5+ hours, not running (keys inside my home) and it caught on fire.the fire was deemed to be an electrical short somewhere in the drivers door panel, possible the electric mirror location switch.no accidents with this car, no modifications where done, everything is (was) stock as it rolled off the assembly line in 1998.my daughter received a slight burn putting the fire out. The car is a complete lose but did not burn completely.

My car dies while driving down the road and takes a while to start back up. I have taken it to a shop on 4 occasions to have the problem fixed.the distributor has been replaced 3 times, neutral safety switch, complete tune-up.still no luck.
The contact owns a 1998 chrysler cirrus.while driving approximately 40 mph, the engine races on its own.he must place the vehicle in neutral or a lower gear in order for the racing to stop.the failure does not self-correct.the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure.the contact believes it is a manufacturer defect.the current mileage is 134,776 and failure mileage was 132,200.
Car loses all power when driving especially after it rains. You have to let it sit awhile and then it will start up. This happens frequently and is quite dangerous.from what i have researched on the internet this is a common problem with this car and alot of frustrated people are wondering why this hasn't been a recall problem since it seems to happen in allcirrus models. This is an expensive repair and it seems to be an extremely life threatening one since it happens on major highways without no warning what so ever.
The contact owns a 1998 chrysler cirrus. While the contact was driving approximately 45 mph, the engine began to overheat and steam emitted from underneath the hood area. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and towed to an independent auto shop. The technician stated the coolant hose fractured. The part was ordered. The vehicle would be repaired once the part became available. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The mileage was 170,000.
Have had problems with the car overheating, not switching gears and also fan motor had to be replaced 3 times in a 3 week period last summer.
I recently purchased a 1998 chrysler cirrus. Not even two weeks into driving i've been having problems with it. The car stops without any warning. I have taken it to 3 mechanics for them to hook it up to a computer with no resolution. The car stops when i am idle and stalls when i am driving.i have not driven the car once without it stopping on me. The check engine light only comes on when it stalls out.the engine has been replaced, new spark plugs, evg valve, fuel cleaning, asd relay, sensors, and so on. This is a big problem. Thanks

The repairing chrysler dealer says repairs will cost approx. $1200.00. He is going to be talking to the chrysler rep.,but does not think she will do anything about the problem, from a co. Standpoint. Does a consumer have to replace transmissions every 27 - 29,000 miles of service. I would like to know if this is a big problem with chrysler products. I know several people who have had transmission problems with their chrysler autos..
Possible gear shifter involved with original problem.
While making aright turn, rear axle broke. There was no prior warning of this happening. Vehicle is being repaired by the dealership.
While driving, vehicle came to a complete stop, consumer restarted the engine and proceeded to put the car in drive, however it only drifted backwards, a mechanic stated that chrysler uses plastic sensors to hold on the transmission case, these sensors became cracked due to poor quality material, which resulted in a transmission leak, the mechanic had to replace them with the same plastic sensors, consumer is concerned that this will occur again. *dt

Noise onleft front tire was due to left side inner tie rod malfunctioning. Consumer contacted chrysler and they told him that, it wad a normal wear part.*yd
Dt: the consumer was driving the 1998 chrysler cirrus at a speed of around 5 mph when the tie rod broke. The tie rod was on the passenger's side on the front. The mechanic that looked at the vehicle stated that the tie rod shouldbreak at low mileage. The mechanic told the consumer that the tie rod was flimsy. The tie rod has been repaired. We have two of your1998 cirus. They both had warranties. My car had the paint shield, and now, and now for 3 years, they both have rust on the hoods. I just found this site, but, had taken the cars to the dealers and they would not fix either car.thanks for any help, gregg.
I have a 1998 chrysler cirrus. It has developed rust along the whole front of the hood, for a car that is six years old this should not be happening. Has this happened to anyone else.

I noticed that my car had a flat tire, which was no big deal, until i opened up my trunk and tried to access my spare tire. The wing nut on the pole holding the plastic cap on the cover broke. Secondly, the plastic cap is stuck on to the pole, making access to the spare tire impossible. This oversight on the part of chrysler has vexed me to the point where i am considering talking to a lawyer about it. What kind of an idiot engineered the spare tire set up of my car? a blind monkey could have done a better job. Now, instead of putting a spare tire on and driving to a meeting, i have to call for a tow, costing me precious money. I'm not a billionaire like the ceo of chrysler, i can't be spending money on tows for problems i could have fixed myself...
Dealer tried to fix these defects, but could/did not?both situations are potentially dangerous! no safety defectmentioned.

On 2/16/99, i was in the drive through lane at a bank to make a deposit.there were approximately 8 vehicles in front of me.as each vehicle advanced to the window, i took my car out of park, put it into drive, and advanced the little you do when you are sitting in line.i did this approximately 5 or 6 times while waiting to get to the window.as the pick up truck in front of me advanced to the window, i took my car out of park which you can not do without puttingfoot on the brake.suddenly, the car leaped forward at a high accelerated speed.my foot was on the brakes as the vehicle crashed into the bank.both airbags went off.when they got me out of the car, the girl in the vehicle right behind me said that that was the wierdest thing she had ever seen.she said that my brake lights were on, but the back end of the car was up and the wheels were spinning rapidly.the whole incident happened in a matter of seconds.i know that i had my foot on the brake. I was sitting in the drive thru lane at a bank.my foot never was near the gas pedal at any time.this was the most frightening experience of having no control whatsoever of your vehicle when it suddenly lurches forward out of control and the brakes are being applied.fortunately, i sustained minor injuries, and thankfully there were no pedestrians outside at the time.my vehicle is now back at the chrysler dealership with an estimated repair of $8,000.00.i will have the vehicle repaired, but i do not intend to keep it.i would never feel confident or safe in that car again.something malfunctioned very wrong that day.i am advising you of this incident in the hopes that this does not happen to someone else and . Also, to notify you of a very dangerous problem with this vehicle.i thank you for your time in reading this complaint.please feel free to contact me if you should have any further questions or require additional information.sincerely, patricia a. Marco.
