I would like you to investigate a total recall of the chrysler vehicles with the 2.4l engine.

Over a period of several months the "check engine" light would come on and the car would run rough when sitting in traffic for long periods of time.then i began to smell gasoline fumes in the passenger compartment of the car while driving, and also outside the car after getting out.i took the car to a reputable mechanic.he stated that the fuel rail seal is leaking at the fuel injector and that he has seen this frequently before. There is already a recall for the exact same problem on 1996 - 1999 and some 2000 dodge caravans, but when i called chrysler they refused to do anything.i am concerned because this is an obvious fire hazard.my vehicle has only 59,890 miles on it.

Automatic transaxle floor shifter moves from park back and forth without depressing the detent button. The dealer failed to correct the recall problem. The ignition would become trapped once in while.after gently wiggling it, the key would snap out and operate properly, staying in park and allowing the key to be removed. Recall#98v183000*sc
While driving 10 mph, flames were bursting from rear left speaker. Fire department put out fire. Factory representative determined that fire was caused by wiring of rear brakes getting hot. Damage to vehicle was $ 5000.00, no injuries.consumer adds chyrsler has denied any responsibility.
Car not braking in a timely manner
Consumer was driving and pulled out from roadside into traffic and there was a construction site, a pedestrian stepped out.when consumer pressed brake pedal there was no braking, and consumer rearended vehicle in front.also, the air bags did not inflate, even at 30mph.
When driving at stop and go brakes went down to the floor. Consumertook the vehicle to the dealer, who bled the brakes, and test drove the vehicle.told consumer that there wasd nothing wrong. Later, consumer was driving and the brakes continued to go to the floor. Consumer feltinsecure when driving this vehicle.
Abs warning light came on.brought car to dealership for diagnosis.diagnosis showed system relay output circuit code.testing showed faulty power distribution center due to corrosion.proper repair is replacement of power distribution center and harness.service center found part is no longer manufactured.service center conducted nationwide parts search to no avail.as a consequence abs system is now non-functional.
Have contacted 2 dealers for service/confirmation of faulty part, and both report that the pt # is on "national backorder"with no estimted receipt date.abs light is engaged, and dealers are unwilling to declare the vehicle unsafe.dealers have been extremely non-cooperative in resolution.concern is that extended warranty may expire prior to part replacement, or that vehicle safety may be compromised and involved in an incident.
When applying the brakes there is a ticking noise. Dealer has not seen vehicle.

I was upseted about their comment because i was good customer and only 1500 miles over the limit. They understood and give chrysler phone call and negotiated if they could take care of this cost $1800. They accepted to pay 50% finaly. I had no choice to accept. My wife was still get angry to pay $900. I do not want to have chrisler car because i have heard from my friends that it is quite common transmission problem. Plz suggest me how to do. Brake hose blewout. Vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic.while driving the brake hose blewout and caused the brake pedal to go to the floor.there was no indication that the failure was about to occur, no brake fluid leakage or erratic braking. Fluid covered the left front wheel and caliper.the dealer noticed evidence that the brake hose rubbed on the caliper. *scc *nlm

On my way from work from downtown baltimore, while going north on the ramp of i-395 the steering became unresponsive. First, the cirrus ran into the left barrier, and it pick up speed across the ramp and hit the right barrier. There was no controling or stopping the cirrus. Since i was by myself , there was no witness, and the highway was clear and dry.
The tie rods were worn out.the vehicle lost steering control while driving.please provide details. *ph
When turning a corner from a stop sign tie rod end on passenger's side broke. Consumer stated both wheels went in separate direction instead ofsame way.the left side also needs replacement.
Turning to the right, steering locked and had a near collision.was strong enough to straighten vehicle adn have towed to dealer for repair.
The contact owns a 1997 chrysler cirrus. The contact stated that while making a right turn, the rear passenger door swung open abnormally. The contact had to screw in the bolt that held the latch into place. The contact was concerned with the possibility of someone falling from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Driving on expressway and hood flew up and shattered the windshield and wrapped up over roof.
At first i heard a squeaking noise that gradually turned into a grinding noise. After having my brake pads replaced and front driver side caliper replaced, the grinding noise turned into a metal on metal grind with a peculiar metal smell which resulted in something ceasing up (only way to describe how tight the tires were rolling and how tight the steering was). It was the lower arm and ball joint separating from each other, all of this was discovered while driving down a city street at a speed of 20 mph, we were able to access the problem better when we jacked up the front end and removed the tire and brakes on the driver front side.
When riding on rough roadways thevehicle experiences extreme vibration and noise.

I have taken this car to the dealer right before the 36k warranty was expired complaining of a sweak coming from the driver front left.they told me there was nothing wrong and that if it get worse to bring it back even after the warranty expires.i have since relocated and the problem has gotten significantly worse, the dealer i listed on the prior page will not do anything about it until i talk to chrysler because the warranty is expired.however, the customer service number for chrysler is busy all day long everyday and is impossible to get through to someone.the number i have been dialing is 1-800-992-1997 and i have called at all different times during the day on multiple occassions and i always get a busy tone, in the mean time my car is getting worse and i don't know where to turn....the problem is with the lower control arm ball joint not holding lubrication according to an independent repair shop i took the vehicle to after mike shepherd supposedly lubed something and then assured me that the problem was resolved when infact they didn't even lube anything close to the problem according to this other repair shop.can you offer me any help??possibly another number to get through to chrysler??
Contact stated:contact has had to put two ball joints on this vehicle ,a left ball joint and a right ball joint. When he parked the car he heard a bang. The wheels would be on an angle because the vehicle was a front wheel drive.

Both tie rods on the left rear tire broke causing the tire to lock up. Which caused loss of control of the car sending the car into a ditch. Front end of car stopped in ditch and rear then came over landing upside down. None of the air bags empolyed.

We travevelled from our ontario canada residence to our florida residence on november friday november 3, 2000.a few days prior to the trip, we had our vehicle serviced which included rotation and balancing of the michelin tires. On our return, we put our vehicle in for service again on november 21, 2000 and we were advised that 3 of the 4 miichelin tries had developed cracked sidewalls and were unsafe to drive.on contacting, michelin they admintted the tires were defective but stated their policy was manufacturer list less 20% which amounted to $107 per tire for the 4 tires.my concern that 3 out othe 4 tires being cracked and unsafe were ignored.the tread wear measured on the tires was 6/32 versus a brand new tire at 9/32. They admitted that the tires had been rotated, balanced and were not worn.i believe michelin has far greater problems with the mx4 plus than they care to admit.we have filed a complaint wiht michelin via the web and with chrysler canada.
