I am very displeased with my purchase of this vehicle.i will not ever purchase another chrysler vehicle for the rest of my living life.i will also make sure to tell everyone i know which exist of my friends, family, coworkers and any other individual who even plans to purchase a chrysler, to change their mind.when i took my car in for an oil change i asked them to check my car because it was making this clanking sound whenver i went on a bumpy road.i was told by the first mechanic once he inspected underneath the car, that my motor mount was broken and my main seal was leaking due to this broken motor mount.the mechanic said it appeared to be a manufacturer default because motor mounts are suppose to last a long time.i had a second opinion done on the car since the damages were so high in cost.the second mechanic said the same and thought it very suspicious that the motor mount was broken for a car that was only 3 years old.both mechanics suggested i go to the dealer for warranty repairs.i had a personal mechanic friend of mine look at it also and he said it was strange that the motor mount was broken.he told me that he had a mercedes with the original motor mount in it with 300,000 miles on it.when i called the chrysler dealership they said it was not under warranty.i feel as though i have been very cheated at this point.all three mechanics said it was very strange and that it was a manufacturer default.i am completely fed up with this car of mine and wish i could get rid of it.i have had various other recalls with this car and have had to taken it in for repairs.when these repairs have been done, i have to pay money out of my pocket for these repairs.i do this because i need a car rental for the day so i can commute to work and to my babysitter's home.i lose time from work at my cost of an hourly rate of $16.00 and still spend another $36.00 to $67.00 a day for a car rental.please try to aid me, i would greatly apppreciate it.
Engine oil galley plugs blew prior to recall repairs. *sd
We noticed major oil dripping.our mechanic found it to be coming from the head gasket.we referred the problem to the dealer and to the 1-800 customer complaint number for chrysler.we were told: a) the car is out of warranty b)they would not stand behind a bad head gasket at 40,000 miles, and c) although there was nothing wrong with the original head gasket design that the gasket has been completely redesigned and was on national back order.our mechanic was able to obtain a new type and fixed the car.he said he has talked to other mechanics who are seeing this gasket oil leak problem on this chrylser.he said the old gasket was faulty and that the new design is three layer thick and very well designed.but, remember, we were told by chrysler that the new one was not designed because there was any problem with the old one.
Vehicle was losing oil because head gaskets were leaking oil. Dealer is fixing the defect.

Intermittent stalling.
While driving at 75mph down the highway a flash offire was noticed coming from under hood.when pulled over to lift hood, the engine burst into flames. The fire suddenly went out on its own. Dealer was contacted.it was found that the galley-plug had blown out, thus dumping all the oil out onto the manifold causing the fire.this plug was recalled and was taken in for repair, but according to the investigator, the actual repair was never done.

On numerous occasions while slowing down from a high speed (for example- paying a toll on a highway) the engine cuts out and all power is lost including breaks and steering.i have been able to restart the car and avoid any accidents.i read an article where mitsubishi is admitting to covering up problems.the car is chrysler but the engine is mitsubishi!!i owned the car for two months and they had to conduct a major overhaul of the wiring.i noted in the article that in the mirage, engines were stalling because of a defective engine shaft.perhaps this is what is happening to my car??
Had just pulled out onto the road when the vehicle died. Took vehicle tomechanic & wa s informed thatalternator belt had sheared off & caught in timing belt. Vehicle was not able to start.

I did not receive and owners manual, and would like to know if i am entitled to receiveve one. Also i would like to know if i am entitled to receiveve a copy of any and all factory warranties. I was told, by a third party that catalyc converter is covered by factory warranty up to 8yrs or 80,000 miles and that applies even though i am not the original buyer of the car. If this applies to me, i would like to know how i can go about getting a copy of the owners manual as well as the factory warranties. When ms. Claveau starts the car she smells fumes and sometimes after smelling the fumes she feels sick.
Dt*: the contact stated there were three recalls were performed on the vehicle, which were not performed correctly.the fuel pump recall #06e091000, hood attachments #97v095000, and the ignition switch #98v183000 were the 3 recalls.all 3 recalls were completed but the problems were not corrected, and the service dealer and manufacturer were not willing to correct these issues further under the recall.

My 1996 cirrus with only 87+++ miles suddenly downshifts while driving over 40 mph.this is a recent purchase.i live in wyoming and it is winter time with icy road conditions nearly everywhere.i am a single mother with a 10 year old daughter.when this happened to us on the highway, it caused us to spin off of the road.luckily we were unhurt.this automobile is unsafe!!!the limp mode appears to be activated due to faulty/low quality parts by chrysler.why isn"t this recalled???i have no choice but to drive this car.i will sue chrysler if we have another incident!!!this incident occured when we were driving straight at about 50 mph.
A week ago while driving at 40 consumerfelt like car was down shifting, rpm's would rev up, but consumer could not go faster than 40 mph.on 14th of september, while on the interstatecar down shifted. Consumer said gears would not shift.
The vehicle 'changed gears' while driving along a major highway, as if it slipped into park or reverse. The tires began to spin uncontrollably and the rpm and engine was raised. Managed to maneuver the vehicle off the main road to avoid being hit from the rear by oncoming traffic. Turned engine off, put the car into park, and restarted car. Put the car into drive but the car would not shift beyound 2nd gear. Mechanic does not recognize 'code' and states that the transmission has to be rebuilt. Thank god, i was alone in the car (i was headed to school to pick up my teenage daughter), and could manage to get it off of the main highway and out of heavy traffic to avoid a major accident and posible fatalities.
Problem was diagnosed as a failure of the transmission control module (tcm) and the solenoid pack.however, it is apparent that the transmission itself is faulty, as it makes a "moaning" sound at what i presume are the shift points. Dealer does not recognize this issue as a problem, although it is getting progressively worse.original diagnosed problem, failure of the tcm, would cause the auto to go into "limp-in" mode. (auto defaults to second gear, which would happen at low speeds or when stopped.)
Driving about 20mph, it would pop out of gear; 2nd time at 55mph popped out of gear; would not downshift to neutral;3rd time about 30mph, popped into low gear. 1st time cooled off; 2nd/3rd had towed to dealer & who will order parts after checking vehicle.
Car would shift out of gear at various speeds and at stop.the car also jerks into gear at various speeds. It has been taken back to the dealer on numerous occasions, each time they can't seem to find any problems with the vehicle.the last instance of this occurring was february 5th 1999.while pulling into my development at a speed of 35mph the car jumped out of gear, and i was unable to get the vehicle into drive or reverse.i had to push the vehicle to my driveway.my concern is that my family was in the vehicle when this occurred and we had just come off the highway.
After stopping the vehicle, the vehicle shifts out of gear.please describe.
Dealer replaced failed componets. The starter took three tries to fix in 1997. It was intermentent.

Transmission failed and had to be rebuilt at 42,534 miles.transmission failed again 800 miles later.eventhough i had reported an earlier problem on trans (while still under warranty), they would not cover this failure due to the fact i was 6,000 miles over warranty.
Auto will not downshift even though the manual states that it should down shift.
The gear shift can move without the release button applied. Dealer says this is normal.
Dt*: the contact stated the shifter could be taken out of gear without the key in the ignition and the check engine light illuminated.a nhtsa recall, #98v183000 was performed on the vehicle concerning, the park/neutral start switch however, the recall did not remedy the problem.the dealership would not offer a second repair under the recall.

Possible interlock system failure caused the vehicle in accident. The consumer had filed claim with the other vehicle's insurance.the subrogation specialist jacqueline martin attached the recall.
Vehicle experienced recall failure on the ignition park shift interlock system resulting in vehicle rolling down a hill and hitting a tree. Mjs

While driving driver'sseatcollapsed.there was no accident ,and dealer was contacted, and stated they could not order the seat.
Both a 3rd party inspection station and the dealer mechanic acknowledge that the front rotors on this vehicle are pitted...in manufacture...at an 'unreasonably' premature lifespan...23k miles.since chrysler does not participate in the bbb lemon law arbitration...their direct contact 1-800-992-1997 maintained the warranty of 1yr/12k miles...disregarding the supporting evidence from the above sources that the pitting was a manufacturing flaw...and therefore clearly the responsibility of chrysler to replace...at no cost.
While driving, upon applying brakes to make a gradual stop the brakes failed to respond. Vehicle would need an extended stopping distance. Vehicle was involved in a crash.consumer has contacted the dealer which determined that the front brake rotors were the incorrect size causing the problem.frontbrake rotors were replaced. Ts
The rear brake hose collapsed from excessive hardware dust, which caused the rear wheel cylinder to leak, the rear brakes were replaced, the master cylinder was replaced under recall, however it had to be replaced a second time. Ts
When applying the abs brakes the steering wheel vibrates, cause unkown.also, the abs warning light illuminated, indicating malfunction.dealer replaced the relay pump.please give any other details.
The master cylinder is empty because there's a crack in it which caused a complete brake failure.the pedal goes to the floor before the vehicle is stopped.
Loss of abs when applying brakes.this happens at all levels of braking, i.e. Heavy, medium and minimal braking.when loss of abs happens, the pedal decends to the floor and a buzz/racheting noise is heard.this problem has lead to potentially 4 major accidents.to solve the loss of braking, driver has to "re-pump" the pedal after loss has occured.(no mil/scan tool code recorded) .
Abs brakes have a tendency to fade, also grind in panic stops.
Abs; the front brakes are grinding metal to metal, have to start stopping ahead of time to make sure you are going to stop, 3rd time in the shop for brakes.
Abs brakes failed 3 times, brake pedal dropped almost to the floor and felt spongy for a little while.
Abs brakeslocked up,causing vehicle to slide.
At 55,000 miles the abs light came on on my vehicle's instrupment panel.upon taking same to a certified mechanic i was advised that the abs motor was no longer working however the vehicle brakes them selves were in working order. I contacted chrysler and was advised that my vehicle was not on the recall list as other 1996 2.5 liter chrysler cirrus(s) were for their abs master cylinder piston (recall#686) and master cylinder primary piston(recall#687).at 75,000 miles i was exiting off of interstate i-95 onto i-395 when i attempted to brake for a traffic signal(red light) the abs light which normally stayed lit constantly began to flicker/blink . While my foot was pushing the brake pedal the pedal began to pulsate and pushed up. The vehicle was unable to stop and i was headed into an intersection when i steered the vehicle into a high curb symotaniously shifting the vehicle into park to avoid colliding into any vehicles at the intersection(conway st. And i-395). The vehicle was towed to my mechanic where the front driver's side tire and wheel/rim was replaced .the mechanic advised he was unable to locate the reason forthis incident. The fuse to the abs motor located in the fusebox under the hood was removed to ensure same incident would not occur again. I am giving you this information not for restitution but to investigate why no recall was issued for my and maybe other chrysler cirrus(s) vehicles. Sincerely, franklin lee adkins.
Consumer was traveling about 35mph on a highway street, and went to apply brakes andpedal went all the way to the floor. He passed the stop sign, there were no brakes. Then, as he rode down the street, three blocks later the brakes came back and the emergency brakes handle was up.
Equipped w/abs brakes; when brakes are applied the pedal descends to floor then returns to normal. Problem unknown w/dealership not able to duplicate.
Experienced total brake failure prior to/afterrecall repairs (96v075/074).
When consumer applied the brakes suddenly to avoid a collision, thebrakes locked up which caused vehicle to skid.vehicle had been checked by 2 dealers and an independent mechanic who have all confirmedthe hydraulic control unit had failed. Ts
Brake pedal failedwent all the way to the floor. Contacted dealer and manufacturer.
When driving on wet pavementandupon depressingbrake pedal to make a sudden stop, consumer heard noise coming from the brakes, and there wasextended stopping distance. Recall no-96v075000. Was fixed on 8-2-96. The master cylinder is still leaking. Consumer states dealer has checked 5 times and master cylinder is still leaking.
The master cylinder is empty because there's a crack in it which caused a complete brake failure.the pedal goes to the floor before the vehicle is stopped.
Steering problems.
Steering problems.
Consumer states that where the steering column meets the floorboard there is a knuckle. The knucleisnot covered. The floor mat slides into the knucle, resulting in loss of steering. The dealer has recommended that the owner use manufacturer's floor mats to prevent sliding.
Steering column failed.
Power steering fails to work and locks up daily until the engine is warm.
Power steering failure.

The drivers side tie rod completely separated from the wheel as the car was being backed down a driveway.this made the car immediately uncontrollable.fortunately this happened at very low speed in the drive.my wife was driving the car and she had our 3 year old son in the car.if this would have happened at high speed a terrible accident could have occurred.the shop that fixed the tie rod said that they have had many of the cirrus' with this failure.the joint on the tie rod installed by the manufacture was a sealed type and had dried out and rusted away.
Passenger side rear wheel "knuckle" broke off where support arm to vehicle attaches.this causes rear wheel assembly to loose structural support.rear wheel is then free to twist in all directions causing loss of control of the vehicle.at highway speeds this can cause a catastrophic accident.the "knuckle" is cast aluminum and has no moving parts which can wear out.
While backing into garage, right front tie rod end broke. Dealer contacted. Dealer found the ball and socket had rusted badly causing the socket to fall off the ball. Manufacturer notified.
While driving 60mph onexpressway, was turning a corner near home at 5mph whenouter tie rod broke. Driver lost control. Vehicle stopped suddenly. Was towed to dealer & mechanic indicated tie rod should not have broken due to vehicle being new. Been in contact with dealer for tie rodpart.
While driving at 35 mph consumer's left side of the vehicle was shaking, and the tie rod blew out.
Tie rod end broke at right front wheel, wheel turned sideways and car was completely uncontrollable.road was dry and the car slid straight ahead. Replace both outer tie rods

Thanks to your web site the cirrus is now at the dealers for recall (6) checks, i received a call today that while checking this vehicle the "sway bar links" are worn, cost to replace $266.00. I called dealer/service and was told this is a potentially dangerous situation, and if not replaced immediately could snap. I asked if this is normal for a car two years old, answer was no. I asked if they have seen any other cases of this. The answer was yes, a few. Service rep told me that prior to 1996 models this part could be greased and no problems ocurred, beginning with the 1996 model there is no way to grease this part, therefore the wearing occurs
My front tires feel like they are going to break off the vehicle due to the lower ball joints, steering control arm, inner and outer tie rods; accelerates all by itself. Will not lock shifter with key out of ignition. Ecm is faulty because it shuts the lights off, turns engine, all lights, off . Unpredictably! seat belts do not engage when stopping. Traveling on the freeway at 55 mph. Abs malfunctions as well even when driving 15 mph.

Several times when i applied the brakes in stop and go traffic, at a speed of about 5 to 10 miles per hour, as i was pushing down the brake pedal, the engine would suddenly increase its speed.in order to stop i had to apply a great deal of pressure to the brake, or put the car into neutral.in a few seconds the engine speed would decrase on its own.i did not have my foot on the gas while i was braking.
