The vinyl on the passenger side of the dash in my 2001 chrysler 300m has cracked. The crack is about four inches long, and based on information from other 300m owners, is in the vicinity of the passenger-side air bag.there is concern that repair of this crack is unsafe due to its proximity to the air bag, and that the crack may affect deployment of the air bag.
My son was driving to college on the interstate and both the driver and passenger front air bags deployed.he did not have an accident, hit an animal or hit a pothole.there was no damage to the vehicle other than the airbags deploying.my son was not injured, he was still able to see the road and pulled over to the shoulder and called me to inform me what happened and ask what to do.as he was close to his college i told him to be careful but continue on to school, i would call his uncle who is a mechanic and then let him know what to do after his class was over.i called the insurance company and my brother.my brother said to have him drive it to his shop so he could look at it.the insurance company started a claim.the insurance company has investigated and does not believe it will be covered as there was not a collision of any kind and the airbags deploying for no reason is not covered under my comprehensive insurance.my brother ran a diagnostic and these are the codes that came up: active - "driver squib" and "passenger squib", stored - "orc accelerometer", "driver squib #1 circuit open", "passenger squib #1 circuit open" and "driver squib #1 short to ground".there was obviously a malfunction somewhere within the airbag system.any assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated.thank you.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler 300m. When the vehicle was started, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
Dashboard cracked. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the mechanic determined that passenger side air bag caused the dashboardto crack.dashboard along with the air bag were replaced.
I have been trying to get the air bag recall resolved on my car.i checked in september and again october 16 and told that they do not have replacement parts.when i go on the chrysler web site for recall information, it says that parts are available.i feel that chrysler, or the dealer, are not giving me top priority.in the mean time, i am at risk.i checked this out again today with the same result.
While driving at 40 mph the consumer was involved in a head on collision and none of the front air bags deployed.the cost of damages to the vehicle is about 7-8 thousand dollars.contacted dealer.*mrthe consumer states that the driver was turning in front of him while the consumer was entering an intersection with a green light.the consumer hit the other vehicle at about 40 mph.neither front air bag inflated, even though the vehicle was impacted in the front.the other driver was taken to the hospital.*scc
Paaenger side dahboard splitting open along underlying air bag tear line. Split getting longer.
I have a 2001 chrysler 300m with a crack along the left side of the passenger airbag. This is a very common problem on 300 miles and has been happening since the 1999 model. Chrylser has done nothing to rectify the issue and will not even consider speaking to you about repairing it unless your car is under warrenty. Repair shops will not fix it due to its proximity to the airbag and the only option is to have the dealer replace the entire dash which will cost $1200. Not only is this a poor quality issue, but a safety issue as well as i have been told by the dealership that this could affect the way the airbag deploys -- if it will deploy at all. Chrylser should be responsible for fixing this issue regardless of whether car is under warranty.mine is 3 months past warrenty and they refuse to even talk to me about the issue. They also deny knowing anything about the problem. I find this hard to believe since it has been happening since 1999.
Yesterday i noticed that a small crack near the passenger side airbag had appeared.i couldn't imagine why being that my car is not that old and i keep my car clean and the dashboard moisturized.i started doing research on the problem and have found that nothing can be done about the crack because my vehicle is out of warranty.and, i cannot repair the crack because it might compromise the airbag deployment!i have read that serveral other people have experienced the same problem. Is there anything that can be done?*la
Tl-the contact owns a 2001 chrysler 300. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, she noticed flames and smoke emitted from underneath the hood. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road.the driver exited the vehicle immediately without sustaining any injury. The fire department extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The cause of failure had not been determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The failure mileage and vin were unavailable.js
While traveling on the highway the vehicle light will shut off and the vehicle will shut down.please provide additional information.dealer is aware of the problem.ts
The vehicle lights illuminated on their own even when the engine was not on and the key was not in the ignition.thedealer is aware and they are replacing some type of box.*nlm
While driving the torque converter failed.as the consumer accelerated, the vehicle stalled in traffic.the consumer had toplace the gear in park and shift back to drive to make the vehicle proceed.the consumer was almost rear ended.the clutch on the torque converter failed.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the engine light.the consumer was told that the electrical surges caused the light to come on.this seemed to be a common problem. *sc
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler 300m. During inclement weather, the vehicle stalled. The contact had to shift the vehicle into neutral while depressing the accelerator pedal and turn the engine off in order to restart the vehicle. The contact also stated that the air conditioner and heating failed to fully function and the interior lighting would randomly remain illuminated when the vehicle was off and the key was removed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to provide a specific diagnosis, but indicated that the failure may be electrical. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
2001 chrysler 300 m had a crack in the vinyl of the vehicle's dashboard directly over the passenger side air bag.the dealer told the consumer it was a cosmetic problem, which her warranty did not cover. The consumer was informed that it could be repaired, but more than likely, it would crack again due to the vibration generated by the normal use of the vehicle.the consumer stated the vehicle also has an electrical problem. This involves the flashing on and off of the digital display on the radio when the lights are on.the display goes dim and then becomes bright.
I have a 2001 300m chrysler with 50,000 miles on it.my car already has to have a new steering rack assembly.the steering wheel wanders, with excessive play in the wheel and makes a large grinding sound when wheel is turned to the right or the left.also, sporadically the gauges will all drop to zero for 5 to 10 seconds and then reset while driving down the road.
I bought the car from a dealership that was aware of its engine problem and did not notify me or make me aware before they had the enhancing paperwork ready for me to sign a binding agreement on a car they had me believing was mechanically sound/.

I have a 2001 chrysler 300 with 143,000. The car stalls while going through intersections without any warning. The car has been in the shop 5 times and had many things replaced including cam and crankshaft sensors, rewired, and fuel pump and the car still stalls. I have a 3 year old child and this car is a huge road hazard but chrysler refuses to address the issue.

2001 chrysler 300m 3.5l ho engine failure at 68,000 miles. Car was maintained with oil changes every 6000 (manual schedule a says every 7500) and engine has failed with major damage and estmiated parts bill of over $5000. I have contatced chrysler customer service and taken tyhe car to dealer and the service manager has spoken with chryskler district manager and neither resource cares about my problem. Detroit says it is out of warranty period. The district manager says that since there was never any other complaint by me regarding the engine problem, which was unknown to me, they can't justify helping me. They do not care that engine was maintained within their standards. I am willing to do whatveer i have to at this point to solve the problem.i can't afford to have the car fixed for that much money and still have one year left on the lease.i have decided to take any and all action within my legal rights to resolve the issue.i am even considering putting the car on a trailer and parking it in front of a different delear every day until they help me.i am unemployed right now, so yes, i do have the time to do this and am willing to do it. Chrysler is seriously ripping people off here and they need to be stopped.class action anyone?*la
While traveling on the highway and without prior warningthere was knocking underneath the vehicle.
2001 chrysler 300m-noticed vehicle idling roughly, then about 2 days later the performance at take off was very poor, then at driving speed with constant rpm the vehicle would mis-out, shake violently and experince extreme lack of power, performance and response, virtually undrivable at low rpm and city driving. Vehicle has 47,748 miles. Chrysler has issued a service bulletin on this issue and have determined that the condition is weak exhaust valve springs. There claim is that i am not a client of theirs because i bought the vehicle used, original purchaser was a fleet operator, and that they probably did not perform proper pm for the vehicle and this was the cause of failure. Though there are no contibutory sighs of lack of schedule pm, worn rings (smoking) ,valve tapping, pinging or performance issue.
My timing belt went on my chrysler 300m 2001, causing a complete valve job.in looking on the web it seems as if many people have been having this same problem for years.we need to hold our car dealers to the same standard as they hold us for payment.
I own a 2001 chrysler 300m.i bought the car september 2000 with 10 miles on it.i have had nothing but problems, at 40,000 miles my 4 disc cd changer/tape player/am-fm stereo with 12 speakers went completely out.it used to ding (like when the lights are turned on and you take the key out of the ignition, that annoying "ding") constantly.i couldn't get it to stop.the i was told by the 5-star service technicians that it was an "internal electrical problem" but they could replace the stereo with another one at the tune of $450 plus $50 for labor. At 50,000 miles my transmission light came on and i called three different 5-star service departments i was told "no problem, that light really doesn't mean anything, but you should get the car in so we can look at it, we can't get you in for a week, in the meantime, it's okay to drive."three different dealership service departments told me the exact same thing.i also told them the car wouldn't make it for another week because it felt like it was "slipping," like it wouldn't stay in gear.finally, a dealership 40 miles away took me in, the car almost didn't make it there.by the time i got to the service department the engine was making a winding sound, and it wouldn't stay in gear at all.the next day i was told i needed a new transmission - at barely 50,000 miles.i was then told it would cost me at least $3500, maybe more. I called chrysler customer service and complained.chrysler said that if i paid the first $950, they would pick up the balance, but the stereo's internal electrical problem was still mine to deal with.i said okay and i got the transmission fixed - but as of today i'm still experiencing shifting problems, sluggishness, and hesitation.my heated leather seats don't work, my on-board overhead digital info center, none of that works.the brakes shake and shudder every time i slow down. The pads and rotors have been serviced, but to no avail.now i hear a loud "clunk" every time i turn the steering wheel to the right.*la

Very very strong gas smell while driving cannot find leakafraid of fire found suggestions on forum on line says near driver side exactly where it smells. Still smells 35 min after driving.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler 300m. The contact noticed an abnormal fuel odor coming from the vents inside the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
The emergency brake cable popped when disengaged. Vehicle was parked on an incline in the driveway when this occurred, resulting in the vehicle rolled backwards 2 inches followed by the wheel locking up and the stop moving.vehicle had to be flat bedded to the dealership, who was replacing the parts that failed.
While driving the vehicle at 30 mph, i got a check engine light. The vehicle transmission would not shift to the next higher gear during acceleration. Note: this was also evident by an increase of engine rpm's on the tachometer. This vehicle was purchased new by myself in 2001. It has only 17,508 miles on it!. Checkingof the engine fault light revealed a p0601 trouble codei. This is an internal fault in the powertrain control module (pcm). I have seen similar problems noted by other 2001 chrysler 300 m owners, upon conducting a search on the computer. Since this appears to be a common problem for this vehicle, i would like to know why there have not been any recalls!
There was a transmission problem in the consumer's 2001 chrysler 300 m.*sc
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler 300m.while driving 75 mph, the vehicle began to make loud noises and then shut off.the vehicle was placed into neutral and pushed to the dealer.the dealer stated that the diagnosis would cost $1,700.the state of california requires a smog test and the vehicle failed due to the transmission.the current and failure mileages were 76,000.
Check engine light came on after turned right out of parking garage.pulled on i-71 s and tried to accelerate to merge.transmission locked in low gear and could not accelerate past 50 mph (current speed limit was 65).rpms were past 4000 and other carhorns were blaring because car would not shift and was going incredibly slow.tried to go to the manual shifter and still would not shift.pulled over, turned off car.turned car back on and car was fine.car did it three times on the way home.had previously taken to the dealership and spent $600 replacing transmission module.after researching the internet, there have been many people experiencing this problem in this car.dealership appears to refuse to fix the problem.extremely frustrated and unhappy.

Chrysler 300 m 2001. Tourqe converter, flow meter and selinoid. All failed only 2500 out of warranty. (70000 mile) is this a common problem with this vehicle.
Transmission slips in first gear and has started slipping in reverse. In reverse car fails to move when on an incline of 35 degrees or greater.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler 300m. The contact was decelerating from 30 mph when the vehicle independently shifted into first gear. The vehicle was shut off and when restarted, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and they advised him that the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred within six months. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
There was no initial warning previous to malfunction. Traveling down i-64 in norfolk, va transmission failed at 63,000 miles. Transmission needed to be replaced. Estimated $3,800in damage. Failure could have easily caused a catastrophic accident.

I have a chrysler 300m, which has the gen3 seatbelts. Recently my daughter hit her seatbelt with her elbow when she was just moving around and the seat belt opened up. That scared me so i looked into it and found out there is a problem with the belts but chrysler will not replace.
On 12/17/07 i was in the back seat of a 2001 chyrsler 300m that was involved in an auto accident.we slipped on ice and hit a tree at appx. 50 miles an hour, my lap belt held my back while my shoulder harness did not. I was sitting behind the passenger.the crash caused me to have broken ribs, a broken back and internal injuries along with broken face bones from hitting the seat in front of me. The car was totaled.is there any defect that i should be aware of that would cause the seat belt not to lock up or the car to loose such control on the ice?
Safety issue!! heated seat drivers side stopped working, other electrical components started malfunctioning brought in for service, dealer made diagnostic check, we were told heated seat circuit shorted and showed burn marks. Not replaced too costly called chrysler customer service was told by senior supervisor they could not help us. Our concerns are safety issues not only cost. Asked senior customer service if other heated seat should be used and was told she could not advice us what to do that would be up to us and the service techto decide.
2001 chrysler 300m suffered from seat recliner bolt breakagein december 2008 after 03v035000 campaign was supposedly completed by dealer in 2003.paid to have repaired again as dealer said it had been fixed.
The drivers power seat is not stable, during slight acceleration the seat lurches backward slightly, dealer stated all the seats do this.

My wife was driving our 2001 300m when she smelled something burning in the car ,the lights started flashing, and it smelled so hot that she was afraid the car was going to catch on fire. She stopped and could not find the source at the time. After she got home we discovered that the heated drivers seat had shorted out and started to burn the seat back before power was cut off to the heating element. We took the car to the dealership to complain about a possible fire hazard. The service manager did not seem to concerned and would not cover repairs because it was out of warranty. It was never repaired.

Complete failure of brake system.fortunately, this occurred while moving the vehicle out of a parking space.the brake pedal went suddenly and completely to the floor with a "whoosh" sound and fluid spilled all over the ground due to a ruptured brake line.the line was corroded and upon subsequent inspection all lines were found to be corroded and in need of replacement (the adjacent fuel lines were totally fine). Repair estimate is $1200+.given the sudden and potentially disastrous nature of the failure especially when compared to the fuel lines which were subject to the same conditions but without similar corrosion, perhaps there were improper materials used.this vehicle has about 60k miles on it, good overall condition, maintained, etc.
December 20th 2008 accident occurred. Vehicle started on fire and was totaled on the right passenger side. Inner tie rods and bushings were replaced not even two weeks before along with two tires and brakes. Vehicle pulled to the left while in an intersection. A truck coming from the opposite direction hit the vehicle on the front left passenger side and the hood. Vehicle was in a 180 degree position with little damage to the left side.
I have had a brake problem with this vehicle since it was purchased new. It went back to the dealer many times and the rotors and pads were replaced. It really never corrected the problem of a vibration in the pedal when brake applied at any speed but very noticeable at speed over 40 mph. Also the brake seemed to fade. I never got satisfaction in cause or repair. After vehicle was out of warranty i had the rotors replaced with slotted rotors and bare pads on all brakes. It seemed to be better but never perfect. Now the brake pedal is soft and goes to the floor. I had the system checked for leaks and air and also had the master cylinder replaced in hope against hope that it would be something simple. Still no brakes. This vehicle only has 50k miles on it and is well maintained.
2001 chrysler 300m rack and pinion had to be replaced because the rack broke.the brakes failed and the car accelerated out of control, due to a failure in the vacuum system.

Brake pedal had fluttering feeling like rotors were warped.took car to dealer where i purchased it because i could not believe it could be the rotors at such a low mileage on the vehicle.both front disc brake rotors were warped and required refacing at very low mileage (15k).disc pads are almost like new.i've owned several other vehicles w/disc brakes and never had this problem at such a low mileage.suspect defective or extremely poor quality rotors.nlm
Today i was driving my vehicle at a speed of about 50 mph.i was coming upon a intersection and the light had just turned red.there were other vehicles traveling along the road in the same and opposite direction as i was.there were two lanes in each direction.approximately 2 vehicles in front of me coming up to the light.as i began to stop my brakes completely failed.i tried pumping them, but got very little help from my brakes. Thinking quickly i moved into the second lane, that had no other vehicles. However it was very close for me to have rear ended the driver in front of me.i was traveling with my two children.i thought may be my brakes were wet.so i continued driving, but was cautious.as i came up to the next opportunity to stop, i encountered the same problem.however this time, smoke came billowing from my hood.i had about 3 more miles to make it home, so i continued home and there was no accident.however my husband inspected my vehicle and said that the brake line was burnt by the catalytic converter.he said it looked as if they brake line was installed to close to the converter. He felt this was a hazard.this incident could have turned out very differently, had i had hit another driver. Luckily we were safe and now have the opportunity to fix this manufacturing defect.i hope chrysler recognizes this defect and notifies other owners, as people could be seriously hurt without brakes!!
2001 chrysler 300m steering noise over bumps / play on steering wheel/ seems very unsafe to drive, dealership has replaced the tie rods as well as i did also i also replaced all suspension and the noise is still there it is definitely in the rack and pinion, it feels lose and like other complaints the rack and pinion may share off and cause a fatal car accident i need this fixed before it harms me or someone related to you. Please advise.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler 300m. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle began to pull to the left without intent. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in motion and would also pull to the right sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who informed the contact that the power steering rack would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000.
Backing out of a parkingstall i heard something popthen i couldn't turn left or right i could only go up or backso i was stuck in the middle of the parking lot had t o get towed steering wheel just kept turning.
Noise in front end, when turning steering wheel would catch and not return to normal position, steering wheel would not re-align properly.
Wife backed out of driveway, heard a popping sound, then attempted to pull back into the driveway. The car lost all steering. Discovered one bolt had sheared off the steering system, considered the rack and pinion, and the other bolt had backed out. The night before we had just traveled on interstate 20 in alabama, running interstate speeds with a child onboard. . if this had happened during the travel, no doubt fatalities would have resulted.
Chrysler 300m 2001, on 7/9/09 -car was seen and inspected for any trouble at a certified chrysler dealership.original estimate was $200, total work cost $1,871.car released to us and we were told it was in perfect running condition.on 7/31/09 total loss of steering causing the car to turn and run up on sidewalk even though driver was attempting to turn opposite direction.had vehicle towed and inspected by independent repair shop.steering rod bolt had snapped causing loss of steering in both wheels.estimated repair cost at $1,675.chrysler dealer claims to have no knowledge of any problem concerning the steering on any 300m chrysler.
While driving, i experienced violent shaking which didn't correct until i reduced my speed to about 50mph. The issue persisted whenever i drove the highway, no matter the condition of the road over a week's time.
Oct 2013 five months after i just had my car fixed . As i was driving throughthe green light i heard a noise like grinding my car stopped i could not go forward or backward, i was stopped in the far right lane of a three lane street i had to put on my flashers. I could notbe move only by a tow truck.i had just had tire rods changed in may2013 and rack n pinionfixed in may which that broke as i was backing out of a parking spothad to be towed. As i was taking the car to the dealership that had fixed it.tow truck driver noticed tire rod bracket had brokeas he was putting car down into parking area. So what i paid to get fix was broke again part could have been defected tire rod bracket. With my familyi could have been hurt if i had been on the freeway.
I was stopped at a city intersection waiting to make a left turn.when traffic cleared, i attempted to make the left turn.i heard a 'clunk' and the wheels did not turn. The steering wheel turned, but the tire wheels did not!i had no function except forward or reverse, so i was forced to drive into the curb in an attempt to get out of the way of oncoming traffic.i was not able to get safely off the roadway and my car blocked an entire lane of rush hour traffic which put me in a very dangerous situation.the police were called and a tow truck had to lift the car to move it out of the roadway.i was petrified.the car was towed as instructed by the police officer and is currently with the repair shop pending availability of a steering rack kit. The bolt to the rack was severed!there was no warning prior to this incident.although i was not injured thanks to the slow speed i was traveling i am very concerned about others that may have this same experience when traveling at a higher speed and making a turn or exiting a highway off ramp.this is clearly a mechanical safety hazard and appears to be faulty workmanship in the automobile.my car is maintained regularly and i have never been advised by chrysler to replace the steering rack.i have contacted the chrysler customer assistance center (reference # 18030539), but they are of no assistance concerning this incident. I'm shocked that there has not been a recall as research shows this is a recorded known deficiency in the workmanship.
Poor steering, accompanied by knocking when going over bumps. Car wanders as the road surface change. No visual sign of problems. Told the rack and pinion may be bad.
My sister's 2001 chrysler 300 m experienced sudden steering failure while driving.fortunately she was travelling at low speed, so no one was killed.she described the feeling at failure as a loud noise followed by the sensation of sliding on ice.it was towed to a repair shop, where they found that the threaded holes on the steering rack that the inner tie rods connect to were both stripped out and that the bolts had fallen out, resulting in complete loss of steering control.this seems to be a common problem with the large chrysler vehicles, and puts a lot of people at risk of death.please force chrysler to recall these cars and to install a redesigned steering rack and tie rods that are not going to kill people.
Cluncking noise coming from front end and steering locks up while turning full right or left.car was serviced and rack and pinion was replaced under warranty at 50,000 miles.returned to dealer after 100,000 miles for wheel vibration problems especially while braking.inner tie rod bushings were replaced.
The contact owns a 2001 chrysler 300m. The contact stated that the tie rod on the rack and pinion was loose on the front passenger side of the vehicle. The contact was driving 20 mph and was able to drive onto the emergency lane. The mechanic stated that the bushings burned and that the failure occurred in several vehicles identical to his year, make and model. The failure mileage and current mileages were 144000.
Violent shaking began while traveling at highway speed, approx. 70 mph.the shaking seemed to be originating from the right front end of the vehicle.vehicle was brought in for service and mechanic informed me that the right side tie rod was defective.the mechanic showed me the "play" of approx. 3 to 4 inches to the left and then an additional 3 to 4 inches to the right of center.apparently the shaking i felt was the right front wheel swinging left and right while i was traveling straight along the highway.
2001 chrysler 300m with 68, 300 miles has steering vibration at 60 mph.
Rack and pinion steering on 2001 chrysler 300m has suddenly work loose internally.company will not explain why steering has become loose.there is 50,000 miles on vehicle.we do not know if vehicle steering system is breaking down and are replacing rack and pinion before accident could occur.there is now a quarter turn of slack in steering, creating a driving hazard.chrysler will not stand behind the issue. It appears as if the worm gear in the system is breaking loose from the shaft.

While driving 50 mph rack and pinionsteering failed. As a result, the tires failed to respond to steering movement.
Per dealer "steering rack has internally failed and needs replaced". The car was bought used with 32,000 miles and condition existed then although i did not recognize it at the time.car now has 44,000 miles.the steering felt a little loose and front tire wear were my only clues and i attributed those to car possibly being out of alignment.took car in for alignment and told cost to fix rack will be $1,100 or as much as $1,500 if tie rods need replaced.not a please experience with my first chrylser product and on their "premium" car no less.
While traveling 40 mph, the consumer noticed play in steering wheel.when the vehicle was slowed to make a left turn the steering wheel became stuck.the dealer was notified.*scc *nlm
Poor steering, accompanied by knocking when going over bumps. Car wanders as the road surface change. No visual sign of problems. Told the rack and pinion may be bad.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving at 15mph, the rack and pinion fractured with no prior warning.the steering was extremely difficult while making a left hand turn.the vehicle was driven to an independent repair shop for inspection.the repair shop offered to make repairs, however the repairs were not made.
I have a 300 m 2001 and the rack an pinion has went out for the second time.i lost steering in town. There was a knock in the front end that the dealer ship could not find.
Grinding noise - and play in the steering wheel - steering wheel sticking on turnsi brought it in to the dealer and the cost was $934.10 for the part and $412.50 for labor plus the cost of another front wheel alignment of $60 - not under warranty and an email to customer service at chrysler was not fruitful, they really don't care that the power steering rack went out at just over 40,000 miles.
2001 chrysler 300m rack and pinion had to be replaced because the rack broke.the brakes failed and the car accelerated out of control, due to a failure in the vacuum system.
Power steering locked up going around a corner due to faulty power steering rack at 58,000 miles
Dashboard cracked. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the mechanic determined that passenger side air bag caused the dashboardto crack.dashboard along with the air bag were replaced.
Cracked dashboard pad above passenger side airbag.seems like safety issue if it can affect airbag deployment.
10inchcrack in dashboard above the passenger's side airbag.it also has started to crack the wood grain, pretty soon it will be from windshield to glove box.a 2001 car that' has been garaged and well taken care off,and theywere saying it wassun damaged.after doing my own investigation on the internet, ifoundout that therewere a lot of people who also had the same problem, and everyonewas helpless as to what to do! i am worried that the airbag may not deploy properly in an accident.why won''t daimler/chrsyler do something.wasit because theycould notafford it.
I bought the car from a dealership that was aware of its engine problem and did not notify me or make me aware before they had the enhancing paperwork ready for me to sign a binding agreement on a car they had me believing was mechanically sound/.

My 2001 chrysler 300m has only 29,000 miles on it and had an extended warranty purchased. One day i was driving and heard a bad rubbing noise and felt a vibration by my foot. Before this trip, the car had been totally silent. When this noise began, the car started to wander on the road, especially when braking. I checked under the wheel well and found oily residue splattered around. I took it to larson chrysler and was told the drivers side strut was totally blown and the passenger side strut was about to fail. He said it was totally unsafe to be driving. The scary thing is this just failed out of nowhere without hitting anything or going over any bumps. Luckily i was on a 35 mph road and not the freeway. The dealer told me they would not replace this under warranty because somehow they decided it was worn before i bought the warranty even though it was not making any noises or showing any symptoms of failure before this. I asked the dealer what would cause it to fail and he said it was normal for a chrysler vehicle due to age. I pointed out that it only had 29,000 miles on it and he said it failed not because of the mileage, but because the car is 7 years old. He also talked to the chrysler headquarters and they said the same thing. This proves that chrysler is aware that they have a common problem with strut failure and are doing nothing to correct the problem. People's lives are in danger due to this if there is a failure on the freeway at 70 mph! please do anything you can to help make chrysler take responsibility for this safety problem. If you need more information, please feel free to call or email me.
Chrysler 2001 - 300 m with 65,774 miles. All required service at dealer only.on 24 nov 10 car made "clunking sound" pulling into parking lot and then completely stopped running.aaa tow truck came and when he stated to pull on truck entire front drivers side wheel fell off.he looked at the area and noted that a bolt in the control arm was completely gone. Said if it had happened 10 minutes early on freeway, would have been unable to control car.towed to chrysler dealer who noted that "left front lower control arm bolt apparently snapped and went away, left front suspension compromised."called chrysler corporate customer service on 26 nov 10 and reported. Told them that i felt this was a part failure and safety issue.they opened case file.chrysler customer service called back on 29 nov 10 & said they needed one more bit of information from dealer and they would call me back that day.no call back to date (06 dec 10) despite numerous follow ups with them. Picked up car from dealer on 04 dec 10.due to collateral damage cost $2,717.84.they noted that there was no evidence of impact damage as cause of failure.
Had dimished strut performance onfront driver's side which caused vehicle to pullleft, into oncoming traffic. Dealer said thatit was normal because vehicle was floating.

The trim around the doors is badly peeling, cracking, totally fallingoff. I thinkthat the quality of products they use must be bad. Cars are too expensive to have to deal with that. The trim is very expensive to replace and with a car that isn't that old you shouldn't have to anyway. If there is such a problem with this they need to correct it.
2001 chrysler 300m smell of gas inside and outside of car after sitting overnight. Changed o rings and no visable leaks. Baffling mechanic..... [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'*pm
After about 3 years the dashboard started cracking.same place as everyone else, over the passenger side airbag.this crack has grown in size to over 12 inches.the other problem is the trim on the car door ways.all doors this has started to peel off.some kind of plastic materila
There is an approximately 7" long crack on the passenger side dash.the car has not been hit or abused in anyway to cause this damage.
2001 chrysler 300 m customer states that substantial cracks in the vinyl dash boards directly over the passenger side air bags**cc
2001 chrysler 300m rack and pinion had to be replaced because the rack broke.the brakes failed and the car accelerated out of control, due to a failure in the vacuum system.
While driving, i experienced violent shaking which didn't correct until i reduced my speed to about 50mph. The issue persisted whenever i drove the highway, no matter the condition of the road over a week's time.
While driving 60 mph right front tire went flat due to corrosion of the wheel. Poor finish materials on the inside of the tire caused the bead at the time to un-seat causing rapid deflation at 60 mph.*mr
Dt: on august 25 2005 while driving on interstate the owner pulled over to get off theinterstate.approached the stop sign, turned right, and the right passenger's side tire fell off. The owner was going about 8 mph when the tire came off. The owner got out and inspected the vehicle. The tire rolled 300 yards down the street. The owner retrieved the tire. The studs that held the lugs:nutsbroke. The lugs:nuts were still attached to the studs. The police came and made a report which indicatedthat the cause of the accident were these studs. The car was towed to an auto body shop. The owner has not called chrysler yet, but will do so soon. The owner contacted the dealership, and they advised the ownerthat he would have to pay for repairs. The owner did not have a problem with the tire, but aproblem is with the lug:nuts and studs. The owner had no previous problems with this vehicle. There were no recalls on the wheels.
