Several weeks ago, i noticed a 1/2" vertical slice in the passenger side crash pad coincidental to the left edge of the airbag. I could feel the airbag cover breakout line on the same vertical path a couple of inches above and below the slit. This slit has since grown to 3" and yesterday a similar slit has now appeared on the right side of the crashpad in line with the right edge of the airbag. The vehicle had 35,000 miles at the time of occurrence but was past the 36 month warranty window. This looks like a potentially dangerous situation to me, relative to airbag deployment failure and the car dealer doesn't have a "no cost" solution for me.
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler 300m. The contact stated that the clock spring failed to work and the air bag warning lamp illuminated when the failure occurred. Also, the contact mentioned that the horn failed to work and the cruise control malfunction. The vehicle was not inspected and diagnosed. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 99v343000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
On aug. 4, 2004 i was in a crash that resulted in my 2000 chrysler 300m being totalled. I was going approximately 35-40 mph when a oncoming truck turned in front of me. My airbags did not deploy. I am wondering if they should have the vin # is [xxx].updated 07/25/2012information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
Dashboard padding cracked around the air bag on the passenger's side compartment/cover area. Consumer had a concern that it may cause a problem withair bag deploying improperly or inadvertently.
Spontanius dashboard cracking over passenger airbag cavity. Dealer refuses to repair because of expiration of warranty. I am worried about the airbags ability to safely deploy.
Highway crash at 60+ mph where most of impact was in front and on front passenger side.neither the driver nor passenger airbags deployed.
One week ago a 3" split appeared in the passenger side dashboard vinyl near the air bag.my concern is that this is in someway related to, or is going to affect, the operation of the air bag deployment.i understand this is beginning to occur in many 1999 and 2000 300m's.four years seems much too early for a problem like this to occur.the vinyl is still resilient and pliable, not hard or brittle.my local chrysler dealer (allen jay) tells me they have never heard of it.they suggested i see about having repaired by someone who does vinyl repair.in my opinion this would further affect the deployment of the air bag.thank you for your time.
Possible airbag defect.
Dash cracking around passenger side airbag
I was stopped at a red light vehicle behind me did not stop and rear ended me. Both front seats in my car let loose and the seat backs went fully reclined. My wife and i were both laying on our backs with heads on the back seat. The car was still moving, it was hard for me to get upright and stop the car. Chrysler told me the seats are designed this way. Here is what they said "the seats in your vehicle. Our design to progressively tilt just during a rear impact collision. The idea behind that, is that it does lesson injuries to the front seat vehicle occupants once that happens so that would be a normal occurrence for your vehicle in a rear end collision". I say [xxx]. If someone was in the back the seat would have broken their legs. It was not a"progressive" tilt, they flew back. They air bags did not deploy.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The air bag light flash on and off while driving
A 2 inch cut is now visible in the passenger side dash, which is the edge of the airbag housing.i am concerned that any dash repair will cause the airbag to not operate properly in the case of a collision.
12-29-00traveling at a speed of 45mph another car made a turn without yielding with no time to stop i hit the other car both cars were total loses but the airbags never opened up to prevent injuries---- thanks chrysler -
Last year, i noticed a crack following the left side of my passenger side airbag. Last week, i noticed a similiar crack following the right side of the airbag. Local dealership will not repair because of airbag and states the entire dash needs to be replaced at my expense. I know of many other chysler 300m owners that have this exact same problem with cracks around the passenger airbag.i feel this is a safety related issue resulting from a manufacturing defect and should be considered for a recall.
I own a chrysler 300m 2000 air bag housing (dashboard) is cracking and this could cause the air bag to be defective. Dealer notified. Refuse to do anthing about it.
Was involved in an accident where i hit a tree dead on going about 35 mph, and airbags never deployed.the front of the car is "totalled"however, it can be repaired.exact damage cost have yet to be figured, but it will be betwee $3000-$5000.the car is only 6 months old.
Consumer stated that the air bag housing is cracking and this could cause the air bag to be defective. Dealer notified. Ts
2000 chrysler 300m, front impact with 1,600 lbs steer, at 55 mph.totaled car and severely injured driver.air bags did not deploy.this happened at 1 a.m., cow was a black angus that ran out of ditch directly in front of car. Back of cow crashed through entire windshield, stopped car immediately on impact.
A slit has opened in the dashboard, apparently on the left hand side (when viewed from inside the car) of the passenger side airbag.chrysler initially denied any responsibility for this, saying it must have been our problem.follow up conversations with the local dealer suggest that chrysler now knows it is a problem .
2000 chrysler 300m developed a 10" crack over passenger airbag.
Consumer was traveling about 60mph on highway andhitice, vehicle spinnedinto another vehicle, anddualairbags didn't deploy. There were no injuries reported.
Air bag failed to go off in 2000 chrysler 300m.i was hit head on by a small pick up. Witnesses says other driver doing 55/60 mph. I was traveling at 45 mph. Both obviously braking at impact but no driver side air bag deployed.my head hit the steering wheel. Lump and bad bruising as a result.contacted chrysler and they offered to fix air bags free if car still under warranty. Car was totaled so point is mute.
The dashboard cover is cracking in two places which are directly above the drivers side air bag.the air bag appears to be expanding underneath the dash cover.the air bag may not properly deploy if there is a collison.auto is out of warranty and chrysler has refused to inspect or repair this situation although there was a recall for the same vehicle with slightly different assembly dates.chyrsler owner's manual warns against any repairs to the air bag except by their authorized dealers.i have seen this condition in the same model and year of manufacture, and there are several reports in the nhtsa data base.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 40 mph the contact hit another vehicle from the rear and the frontal airbags did not deploy.the vehicle sustained frontal damage and a police report was filed.although the dealership was alerted, no appointment for inspection has been made.updated 4/11/2006 -
The portion of the dashboard covering the front passenger airbag on my 2000 chrysler 300m has two large cracks corresponding with the left and right side of the airbag storage area.one crack is over 12" long and the other is approx. 8" long.they are unsightly, especially for a top-of-the-line vehicle like the 300m, but i am afraid to have them repaired because of the potentially adverse affect it may have on deployment of the airbag in a collision.i understand that many 300m dashes are beginning to crack and it seems like this could result in a real safety issue if people start repairing these with vinyl patch kits that hamper airbag deployment.chrysler needs to do something about this dash problem.they have a design flaw in the thickness of the dash skin.
When applyingabs brakespedal went to the floor, causing extended stopping distance, and resulting in a collision. Also, rear passenger's seat belt did not lock up, seatback collasped, and the air bags did not deploy.please give any furher details.
Front passenger air bag cover (on dashboard) is gradually splitting open.
About a year and a half ago, i noticed that on the passenger side dash, a 1" crack had started to develop around the air bag of my 2000 chrysler 300m.i am the crack is now on both sides of the air bag and each are at least 10" long.i am concerned that the airbag will not deploy properly.my local chrysler dealer said to fix it with a vinyl repair kit, but it would be unsightly.i am very disappointed to have such a new car have this dash condition.
A crack has developed on the dashboard around the passenger airbag of my 2000 chrysler 300m.the crack developed around 40,000 miles.
6 inch vertical crack directly over the passenger side airbag.i feel that due to the close proximity to said airbag, this poses a serious risk to anyone riding in the passenger seat.
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler 300m. The contact stated that the key failed to eject from the ignition properly. The key would only eject from the ignition after multiple attempts. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The ignition switch was replaced, however, the failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,236.
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler 300 m. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the passenger seat began emitting smoke from underneath. The contact pulled over and put the fire out by pouring water on it and disconnected the seat motor. The contact had not called the manufacturer or the dealer. The failure mileage was 180,000.
(1) my heater in my 2000 chrysler 300m comes on every 8 seconds automatically.i took it toa mechanic and after two days, he advised that he cannot fix the problem.what he thought would be the appropriate part -- wasn't.(2) my dashboard on my 2000 chrysler 300m has two long cracks in it.they are approximately 10" (or more) long.i am afraid that they may affect the deployment of the airbags, should they be needed.i believe this could be a safety hazard.
The door locks on the front and rear have stopped working.i suspect the actuators are defective.dealer is no help.
After starting my car before work in the morning, the drivers steering column/dash area burst into flames that were bright blue/white in color and unable to extinguish. The fire department report stated an electrical fire in the drivers dash area or steering column. This fire engulfed my entire car very quickly, and nearly burnt down my house! the car was in my driveway about 6 feet from my home. As it was burning, i heard the engine keep restarting itself as if something was going on with the ignition cylinder or system. It was stationary. Please help!
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler 300m. The contact stated that the clock spring failed to work and the air bag warning lamp illuminated when the failure occurred. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 99v343000 (air bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
Consumer stated the vehicle was installed with an aftermarket bodyguard electronic corrosion control system, the vehicle's engine caught fire.(claim#51-0490-684)
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler 300m.while the engine was running, the headlights and instrument panel would flicker intermittently.on one occasion, the engine was turned off and the headlights were still flickering.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired.the contact was unsure of what repairs were made; however, the failure still persists.the failure mileage was 12,000 and current mileage was 61,120.
While operating the vehicle, the instrument lights, radio and compass lights flicker intermittently or become very bright for a few seconds then become very dim for a few seconds.i have only noticed this occurrence while driving at night when the headlights are in use.during this event, the headlights also appear to become brighter or go dim at the same time.
While driving 65 mphvehicle stalled out and died without warning.dealer has not been able to duplicate or correct the problem.
Vehicle will shut completely off, as if the key were turned to the off position.very random in occurrence.this problem seems prevelent among the owners of other 300m vehicles i have spoken with.this is an issue as it has occured while driving at highway speeds and during city driving as well.
When driving at night dashboard lights continuously flickered.when the lights flickered they fully illuminated. This caused a distraction to the driver.dealership has replaced the headlamp switch, but the problem recurred.
Takata recallthe key ignition kept getting stuck until the key broke off in the ignition. The seatbelts gets stuck sometimes when i put son the car and they dont come out all the way. Also having problem with the engine water pump went out on the freeway, transmission went out after the water pump.white smoke sometimes come out the tail pipes while driving.dash broard lights keep coming off and on when driving. The truck and hood does not stay up the air holder giving out. When you pop the truck or the hood it does pop all time.
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler 300. While driving approximately 25-50 mph, there was a sudden loss in the power steering. The contact maneuvered to the side of the road and noticed the serpentine belt disconnected. The serpentine belt was reconnected in oder to resume driving. The failure recurred twice while driving to his destination. An independent mechanic was notified of the defect and they informed the repair kit was unavailable. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem.the approximate failure mileage was 128,000.
The temperature gauge works slow to read outside temperatures.
The crank shaft pulley failed and caused the drive and v-belt to separate from all remaining pulleys.among other things, i lost power steering traveling at 65 mph on the interstate.it was fortunate i was not travelling on a curvy country road or i probably wouldn't be alive to write this report.as it was it took a lot of strength to be able to steer the vehicle clear of the roadway.the parts distributor told my mechanic they were shipping an average of 55 replacement cranshaft pulleys a month.
Hello. I have a 2000 chrysler 300m and it has not been reliable enough for me to drive for about a year now. It will periodically decrease in speed and just stall. I have taken it to about five shops including the chrysler dealership, and noone knows what the problem is. I researced online to see if i was the only one having this probelm with my car,but there are hundreds of others with the same vehicle, and same problems. They have also taken their vehicle to many shops including the dealer, and noone knows what the problem is. I wanted to contact you first to see if there is anything you can do to help me. I contacted chrysler via e-mail about a month ago and i am still yet to hear anything back from them. I have put so much money into this car for shops to try to fix the problem, and i even had to pay diagnostic fees to a chrysler dealership, and others when they have not been able to diagnose it. This is absolutely ridiculous, i feel this car should have been a re-call, with as many people having the same exact problem, that we call the "enginestall". Please contact me back as soon as possible. Thank you for yourtime!
Dt: 2000 chrysler 300m.the consumer's husband was driving andheard a knocking noise. Vehicle stopped running. Vehicle had to be towed to dealer, who statedthat vehicleneeded a new engine. Incident occurred onseptember 23,2005. Chrysler dealer determined engine failed internally. The results in damage was apparent from connecting rod protruding from oil pan. Chrysler proposed to replacefaulty engine witha chrysler remanufactured long block engine. The engine will cost $6,100.
There were no eventa leading up to the failure- my chrysler 300 m had been sitting in our garage for 4 hours.. And started on fire, which then caught our house on fire ( which we owned 19 days) , resulting in a total loss of our home, the vehicle, and 2 outside buildings- deemed a total loss.
While driving 10-15 mph, car shut-off.continued to shut 5-7 times. Dealer has yet to get this to happen again..computer shows only 6 start cycles so they know the computer had a power failure. They have no idea why it will not shut off for them..
While driving vehicle pulled to the right and stalled. Then, it just completely failed. The tires and emissions failedinspection. Consumer took the vehicle backto the dealer , who originally did not do a good job.
Vibration noise coming from engine when car is in drive/reverse at low rpm 1000-1500 rpm.tested and seems to come from catalytic converters.
When the climate control is turned on to warmer temperatures, cold air will blow.
Chrysler 300m (2000) have to re-charged w/freon every 4 weeks. Over summer months. This has been happening since the car was 3 years old, but with more frequency. It used to hold freon re-charge for entire summer. Have had checked for leaks, but none can be found. System blows "fog" just before needing to be recharged.
A/c evaporator leaking freon.
A/c unit on car.replace freon 3 times, o rings once , compressor once and now the evaporator core needs to be replace.
I have a 2000 chrysler 300m and when the headlights are on they will go off and on , on there own while driving also the dash panel will go completely out and back on i feel that this is a life and death situation with my vehicle i was wondering if you have other complaints on file as my dealer says there is nothing they can do for me.
Headlights will not always come on at nighht after pullingswitch.vehicle would fail to start. Took to dealer & mechanic was suppose to have repaired problem. Picked up vehicle & the headlight problem still exists. Been back & forth numerous times for the headlight problem.
When driving at night dashboard lights continuously flickered.when the lights flickered they fully illuminated. This caused a distraction to the driver.dealership has replaced the headlamp switch, but the problem recurred.
Driver shut the vehicle off and noticed the tail lights will not go off.
Dealer replaced fuel cell assywhich included pump form a stock unit , replacement appeared to be satisfactory for approximately 5000 miles and it now is noisy, unknown if the pump is operating properly, only occurs after vehicle has been sitting for a period of time usually overnight weather and temperature as well as fuel load make no difference
The fuel tank strap on the drivers side snapped. It is severely corroded. The passenger side is also corroded but has yet to break. I contacted chrysler to request they put in a recall or special warranty to cover replacement of this item and reminded them of the ford fuel tank strap recallhttp://www.autoweek.com/article/20110801/carnews/110809984chrysler advised me that they cannot consider my request.i let them know that i would inform you of this serious safety issue as the fuel tank could drop and cause an explosion and/or environmental hazards (i.e. Fuel tank dropping and fuel spilling).these straps should have been coated with an anti corrosive during or prior to manufacture of the vehicle.
Reporting plastic fuel tank have punctured by running over somethingwhile traveling at highway speed of 50 mph, and caused fuel leakages, priblemoccurredbecausefuel tank is located too close to the ground; dealer / manufacturer were notified, and unwilling to assist. Provide any further information.
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler 300m.while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stopped in the middle of the freeway.it was determined that the fuel filter was the cause of the failure.once the fuel filter becomes clogged, it stops the water pump from working and the vehicle will shut off when it reaches 100,000 miles and over.the fuel filter is located in the gas tank.the owner's manual does not mention how to change the fuel filter.the contact spoke with the dealer and they stated that attempting to change the filter would be risky.the failure mileage was 106,000.
Smelled gas coming from drivers side rear of engine with small drops falling on exhaust pipe i looked this up and there was a recall on 1999 chryslers but did not list my 2000 model. Apparently this problem was never remedied as the previous year was recalled but the next model year used the same parts but was not recalled. I went online checking to see if others had this experience and there were many others that complained of this problem. Most of them said it was from a plastic part that hooked to the fuel line connecting to a fuel injection distribution center. I called a chrysler parts department at a dealer and was told that chrysler had changed the way this line was made because of the problems with the lhs and 300m models. These model cars are unsafe to operate because of a faulty manufactured gas line that is something that should never have to be replaced and could cause fires and possible injuries or worse.
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler 300m. While driving 15 mph, the contact noticed a strong fuel odor outside and inside the vehicle. Also, the misfire fuel injection warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to sahara chrysler jeep dodge ram (located at 5050 w sahara ave #3400, las vegas, nv 89146, (800) 506-5050) where the contact was informed that the fuel supply line tube connected to the fuel injector rail was leaking, which caused the vacuum tube, fuel line clip, fuel supply tube, and fuel vapor to have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure twice and the contact was informed to file a complaint with nhtsa. The failure mileage was 169,000.
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler 300m. While driving various speeds, the contact noticed that the interior dome light turned on and off intermittently. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 110,820.
Buzzing noise from drivers side front/rear doors when pressing the locking mechanism.this also occurs when the doors automatically lock after reaching a certain speed.this noise does not occur when unlocking the vehicle, only when locking.
The consumer stated that the rear passenger automatic door lock burned out. *tc the consumer would have to hit the front auto lock and the buzzer, then go around and open the door manually. There were several other makes and models that had the same problem. *sc
The unlock mechanism on both of the passenger side doors is "stripped."in order unlock either of those doors, i must first cycle the automatic lock button - either from the driver's side door or the automatic button on the key fob, then get inside the car and manually raise both of those locks by hand.neither door will open without this process.when using the autolock button to unlock the doors, there is a horrible, loud, grating noise, which leads me to believe that the gears are stripped inside the door.there is a definite safety hazard, as anyone inside the car cannot exit the vehicle without first using the button, which does not work.
Door lock buzzing and failure to unlock door. Occasionally door will not open from the inside until the electric lock is toggled a few times and then the manual button is pulled up. Often times the button will not pull up unless the electric switch is toggled first. I have exited car on occasion to have the door still be locked when i attempt to open it (door should unlock upon opening from inside).talked to dealer and dealer stated it was due to "possibly playing with the locks by my children" first failure occurred less then one year after purchase.*la
The passenger's rear door locks will not lock or unlock on their own.consumer took vehicle to the dealer, and mechanic replaced the lock mechanism. Consumer informed the mechanic that the driver's door lock problemoccurred more than once, andproblem had not been resolved.
3 inch centers of wheels corroded off.chrome door handles chrome peeling off driver & passenger door.weather stripping hanging off rear doors.door lock actuator motor malfunction. *nlm
The door lock on the passenger side doorhas stopped working correctly.there is a buzzing sound when the power lock is pressed as well as when the car reaches 15 mph and locks automatically.the door cannot be opened with the door handle and in the event of an accident the front passenger would be denied an immediate exit. The dealer says it appears to be actuator failure at a cost of $250.00 to repair.this is a significant safety issue and a threat to the welfare of anyone riding in the front passenger seat.recall should be immediate.
When my chrysler 300m was less than 2 years old, the lock on the front passenger door began making horrible grinding noises, and no longer opened electronically.i ultimately had to replace the entire locking mechanism at a cost of $228.99.less than a year later, the rear passenger door lock began making the same grinding noise, and stopped working electronically.it's about time chrysler recalled this and fixed it once and for all as i see that i'm far from the only person being inconvenienced.in addition, should there be an accident and immediate need to evacuate the vehicle. Precious moments would be wasted trying to get the back door lock released to the button can be manually raised, and the door opeed.
When my 2000 chrysler 300m was under warranty, my drivers side door would not unlock.there was a buzzing or screeching sound when you tried to lock the doors manually, with the remote, or while driving with the 15 mph auto lock feature.the drivers side front actuator was replaced.on 10/10/03, the same thing happened with the passenger side door which was not covered under warranty and cost me $220.96 to replace the passenger side front actuator.others have complained about the same issue, when is chrysler going to recall these faulty components?*la
The rear door locks failed. The 1st right rear at 46000 and the next left rear at 62000.the first time the lock actuator became very noisy,k and i had it replaced before total failure at a cost of 220.00 at the dealer, off warranty. The next was this past week at 62000. This time the lockcompletely failed and made it impossible to open the door from inside or out. This time it cost 340.00 i consider both failures at fairly low mileage as a sign that this lock mechanism is very defect prone and the fact that the door would not open in any way a huge safety hazard in case of an accident or fire.
My wife purchased her 300m in 2003 within the first year thedriver side rear door lock would make a loud noise and not unlock. Now a year later the front passenger side door is making the same noise and cannot be unlocked unless you cycle the lock switch and manually raise the lock. I consider this a very unsafe condition and with the number of complaints i've read so far it is far from a isolated incident.
The inside drivers door latch broke where the latch mechanism connecting the rod attaches. I can only open the door from the outside. The handle assembly is moldedi can't open the door quickly in the event of an emergency. The repair has not been completed, the door panel is on backorder.
2000 chrysler 300mdefective door latch actuator.i have a small child and fear the hook-up connection between the speed cables and door latch actuator may create a deadly situation.on december 13, 2003 cowles nissan chrysler replaced the right rear door lock actuator latch assembly due to it malfunctioning. Three weeks later the left front lock actuator assembly malfunctioned and requires replacing. My dealer cowles nissan chrysler, woodbridge, varefused to address this safety issue or assist with contacting the manufacturer with the replacement of the remaining defective door lock actuators. The n.h.t.s.a office of defects report on the 2000 chrysler 300m found the following problems:"vehicle speed control:1.linkage2.cables3.accelerator pedal
Right front and left rear door lock/release selanoid went out at the same time.once locked, the passenger(s) cannot manually unlock the door to normally exit, escape a fire or drowning, etc.the driver or front passenger has to use the front door electric release button to get the malfunctioning (selanoid) lock to unlock to the halfway position.this then allows the passenger to manually unlock the locking button fully and open the door.a passenger inside the vehicle can not use manual force to open his/her door, especially women or children who may try to exit the vehicle.the locked door may be open externally by use of the key.the automatic keyless entry device will not work (open) on these defective door locks.i have an extended warranty they will cover the repair, with a deductible, however i thought you should know about this since the passenger or a driver will definitely be trapped in the vehicle if they need to get out.also, i am a retired police supervisor and have had extensive accident investigations experience and have never seen a lock malfunction in this manner.if you have had any similar complaints, i would appreciate it if you would let me know prior to getting my locks repaired.*la
Not able to totally lock all doors.system is electrically controlled.very noisy when automatically activated at 15 mph.necessary to deactivate, thus having to manually lock doors.because this was a standard option, it should work for reasonable length of time.when ordering replacement part, was informed of a two week wait because of local back order on like part, indicating many other owners were having same problem.this was second failure.first time was on driver front door, second time was on passenger front door.can the back doors be far behind?dt
Rear driver side door lockfailed.consumer was unable to lock/unlock the door to enter/exit the vehicle.
The actuators for the door of my 2000 chrysler 300m has been replaced three or four times. The part itself seems faulty, and there should be a recall so that the part gets fixed.
Automatic door lock motor making loud buzzing noise.failure soon to follow. Common problem with many other owners.why is this not beong repaired by manufacturer?
My steering has a life of its own. Steering pulls hard to the right, almost hit a public bus. I've had 2 alignments and brand new tires, the problem still exist. The front end make a clunking noise and vibrates really badly. I've taken it to a chrysler dealership and got the same response as other have with the same problem "unable to duplicate" the problem. I told them there is a problem. Im afraid of losing my life an risking others on the streets and highway because of this serious issue the no one wants to fix.
The gear shift stick beginning sticking, making it hard to change gears.i had gotten the gear in reverse to back out of my yard but when i tried to put it in drive the entire gear stick broke apart. I was in the road with traffic coming from both directions unable to move.the car had to be towed to repair shop where the entire gear components had to be replaced.
The transmission jerks from 40-46 mph, at slower speeds the transmission clunks from 1st to 2nd gear.
The contact owns a 2000 chrysler 300m. The contact stated that the vehicle would not shift into park.in order to park the vehicle, the contact had to place the gear in neutral and apply the emergency brake. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
While making a left hand turnvehicle started to drive like it was in neutral. Please provide any further information.
While driving transmission failed and replaced (happened in schomberg ontario, canada zip l0g 170).
Vibration noise coming from engine when car is in drive/reverse at low rpm 1000-1500 rpm.tested and seems to come from catalytic converters.
I have a 2000 chrysler 300m, purchased september 2000.this particular model allows both an automatic or a manual shift (i've never used the manual shift). On the date in question, i went to put the car into gear, and the gear shift sheared off in my hand.whereas no one was injured in this particular incident, i do believe that had the car been in motion it could have caused serious injury or death. One does not expect in a 2-1/2 year old car for the gear shift to come off. I believe that this is a serious safety issue. Ts
Shifting mechanism on 2000 chrysler 300m becomes difficult to move from park to other stick locations.mechanic says it is a cable linkage issue that is adjustable but should be done by qualified mechanic.failure would result in inability to shift car.

Said that it was like that on all 300m cars. Took him on a new 300m with 5 miles on the odo and he coudln't notice it then.he then said it was the vehicle shifting into overdrive and rpm'ing "low" causing that rumble. Told him that was hogwash and to fix it or i'll invoke the lemon law.so, this thursday will take it back for another service.

On monday, 5/20, i was exiting my 2000 chrysler 300m and as i pulled the interior driver's side door handle, the chrome plating on the handle split along the top seam, slicing a deep gash in my middle finger.after attending to the wound, i found that the center of the door handle now has a 2" section of the chrome finish that has torn away from the handle, leaving a horizontal, razor-sharp protrusion that could cut me again at anytime.fearing this hazard would cause further injury to me or members of my family, i contacted my dealer, brandywine chrysler jeep in wilmington, de about getting a replacement handle for the driver's door.the parts department told me that chrysler doesn't make replacement door handles; i would need to order a whole new interior door panel at a cost of $309, not to mention the $70/hour labor to install it.i went to their service department yesterday, 5/21, and the service guy remembered having a door panel in the shop and went to see if there's something he could do.he returned to tell me that there's no way to remove the handle from the panel without damaging it, and told me that the only option is to replace the door panel because the protruding strip of chrome finish cannot be repaired.even if it were possible to remove the treacherous 2" section of finish from the handle, that would leave two equally sharp and dangerous vertical edges running completely around the handle. Today i contacted chrysler customer service via email about the defect, and they sent me a cursory response that said theres nothing they can do since the handle is part of the door assembly.they didnt even mention the injury or defective handle.

Cannot keep tires balanced. Balanced 3 times in last 6 weeks. Also had 2 tires replaced to try and correct. I was told by a friend in dayton ohio that he had same problem. According to goodyear dealer this is a recurring problem on the 300m with the 17 inch wheel package. Every time i ask chrysler dealer if they know of such problem, they say no, but goodyear dealer says that i am not alone with this problem, and he has had many complaints, and this is just one goodyear dealer. He says there are no problems with these tire on anything else. Only the 300m with 17 inch wheels. (dot number: mk438mdrtiresize: p225/55r17)

Since i got my 2000 chrysler 300m, everytime i go over speed bumps it shakes and pops. I also noticed everytime i make a turn it gives a loud popping noise. Everytime im going 25-35 mph it feels like my front tires are loose and shaky. Seems like its only getting worse.
I noticed when driving my 2000 chrysler 300m over bumps there is a clunking noise. My steering has noticeable play and when i make turns the steering wheel seems to bind slightly and i have to give a little more force to correct the wheel back straight instead of the wheel spinning freely back into place like normal. Also when turning the steering wheel left or right there is this popping noise that i can hear and feel in the wheel. I recently had the inner tie-rod ends, outer tie-rod ends, and adjuster sleeves replaced. A wheel alignment was also done. I test drove my car after the repairs and there is the same exact problem as before. I did see my old inner tie-rod ends and the bushings were worn, but i guess that was not the main problem. We put the car back on the lift rack and all the other visible suspension components were tight. I went online to see if anyone else had this similar problem and i was shocked of the outcome. There are so many complaints of the steering and suspension components of the lh car (300m, intrepid, lhs, concorde). I read that there are many cases of the rack & pinion gears going out. I also read that the bolt that tightens the steering shaft to the rack & pinion shears of and then you loose complete control of the vehicle. I have read that there were a few deaths and possibly more caused by this rack & pinion failure or the bolt shearing off. I now have to bring my car back in and try to explain this to the mechanic. I have read these complaints in so many different websites and there are so many complaints in each website. I hope and pray this problem of loosing control of the steering does not happen to me. I will take my car in immediately for an inspection. In conclusion, chrysler should have come out with a recall for this or at least give out a notice for this known complaint and have and updated bolt kit for the steering shaft so they do not shear off. Everyone should feel safe when driving. I know that i no longer feel safe.

While turning a corner my steering wheel turned one direction while my tires stayed straight. Also while driving down the highway at 45 miles an hour. My car went into the opposite lane almost head on into another vehicle when my wheels decided to turn back when i turned the steering wheel almost to the end of steering ratio. This car is going to end up killing someone. Then there will be a major law suit. I replaced the rack & pinion. Worked for about a month and now it is starting to do it again. Also replaced the tie rod ends. The bolts back outor become loose on the rack & pinion. Have had to tighten them on many occasions.

2000 chrysler 300m.
I have a 2000 300m. It has experienced sloppy steering, ?hitches? and a lack of smoothness, especially in left hand turns, and a tendency to not have the wheel come back to center without undue force being exerted. The front end also makes several different types of noises. The car is now in a asce shop with copies of information and tsb?s found on this site. I am hoping to have it properly repaired and to have my son use it for college (approximately 125 miles away). I am now concerned that, even repaired, the car will be unsafe. I believe i had an issue early on with it and the dealer replaced some tie rods or something. The car now has 160,000 miles on it and i have spent money on many items like brakes, tires, complete suspension replacement, several front end alignment issues, battery, air conditioning, etc. I thought it would be a good safe car for my son. Now i don?t know what to do.two days ago a 19 year old family friend lost control of his 300m and hit a tree. He is dead.

This past weekend after taking a day trip to va i discovered a leak under the front hood. It smelled and looked like oil. The previous monday i had my oil changed at the local chrysler dealer and thought that maybe something may be wrong with the filter. On monday the 31st of mar i talked to the service mgr and he told me to bring it in. He looked under the hood and under the engine and found that it was a power steering leak not an oil leak. He stated that this is a common problem with the 300m. I stated that this seems to be mfg'ing problem. He stated it didn't happen to all of them so that is why it was not a recall or service bulletin. I disagree with his statement. I had extended warranty to they fixed it and it cost me $100.00 deductible. I feel this is not something i should have paid for. According to this dealer this is a problem with the 300m and it should be identified as a recall or at least a service bulletin.*nlm

Vehicle started leaking fluid on the ground, i had it checked out and the resultwas power steering hoses leaking fluid.manufacturer is having me replace the part.old part is still on vehicle, due to i heard they had faulty hoses on their mini vans and i feel mines should be replaced at no cost to me by dealer! also steering wheel is not leather and melts.it has been replaced once by the dealer and they refuse to replace it again as it has melted again due to them saying its the cream in my hands.the seats have not melted and i also own a 1993 jeep grand cherokee with leather steering wheel that has not melted and it has 180k miles on it, so its not any cream i am using!

Having problems withinner/outer tie rods.
Found play in rack-n-pinion needs replaced and aligned. Found to be unsafe and needs to be replaced as soon as possible.
Unable to adjust vehicle toe. Dealer replaced steering wheel due to peeling and did a front end alignment and oil change. Vehicle came back with steering wheel cocked at a 45 degree angle when driving straight. Took vehicle back and it was returned to me with the wheel straight. I ran through two sets of tires when the tire dealer admitted the toe adjuster was frozen on one side and that he and possibly the mechanic before had set both wheels to a slightly toe'd out condition to allow the steering wheel to be straight. Otherwise the vehicle would have the steering wheel cocked at a slight angle. The vehicle is no longer under warranty. But the adjuster has been "stuck" of frozen since the first trip to the dealer.*la

The steering on our 2000 chrysler 300m became very loose.the steering worsened to the point that we felt uncomfortable driving the car.we took the car to a local dealer, lithia dodge, to investigate.the problem was a failed steering rack and pinion.the car only has 46,000 miles.the repair was $850 for a refurbished rack and pinion replacement.the repair was not covered under warranty: the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty had expired and the steering rack and pinion is not covered under the 7 year/70,000 mile power train warranty.we strongly believe this is a serious safety issue and consider ourselves lucky that we did not experience complete steering failure.

My 2000 chrysler 300m suddenly lost steering as i was driving. Luckily nothing happened. I was able to force the steering wheel to get it to a gas station. $850 later, its ok now but how can the rack and pinion go bad on a 45000 mile car? my mechanic said it was all apart beyond repair. I saw on the internet other people complained about steering on their chryslers, so i figured id add to the pile.
The first thing i noticed was about 6 months after the purchase of my 2000 chrysler 300 m in 2003 (less than 50,000 on the vehicle at the time) was a popping noise when making right turns.i took it back to the dodge dealer where i purchased it from and was told it was nothing.within 2years, i went through two sets of 50,000 mile tires/finally, the bolt in the rack assemble broke (in a parking lot thank god) a piece of the bolt was left in the assembly.this led to 1200 in repair work.a year later, there was so much play in the steering it was non drivable.i took it into the shop again and paid another 1100 to replace tire rods and other front end parts due again to "torque problems" with the steering.i have since had the same, brand new bolt tightened twice to keep it from snapping again.also, been through an additional set of tires.chrysler needs to do something.i am not the only person with this problem that i know, and there are websites complaining about it all over the place.

Premature failure of the safety related steering equipment has occurred on my 2000 year chrysler 300m. The rack and pinion failed and i am now scheduling repairs at my cost as the warranty is expired. I took the vehicle to a dealer numerous times for over a year without satisfaction on their review. They initially would say the condition was "normal". I have found an independent repair shop and will be having them replace the rack and pinion. Dashboard padding began to split as a small 2 inch area on the right side of the air bag on the passenger's side compartment/cover area. Over the course of the last 2 years dashboard padding finished splitting on right side and all of left side spontaneously. Is now split on both right and left sides of the airbag compartment leaving only bottom side of padding left holding airbag in dash. Clearly visable that dashboard padding spliced too deep around airbag compartment when manufactored. Asked dealer-jack wolf to look at, told it would not be able to be replaced by manufactorer for free, unless risk of harm. How could it not be a risk of air bag deploying inadvertently? consumer concerned that it will cause a problem with air bag deploying improperly or inadvertently.
Dash is cracking along the lines of the passenger airbag; this appears to be a structural failure of the material; possibley due to internal scoring to provide directed air bag deployment.
Dashboard on the passenger side of my chrysler 300m is cracked on both sides of the airbag.
There was a crack in the dashboard located over the passenger's side air bag compartment. Consumer contacted chrysler online customer service which advised consumer to have the entire dashboard replaced.also,it was indicated that this procedure could modify the air bag's effectiveness.
The dash pad is cracked approximately at the seam for the passenger side air bag.
The dashboard on passenger's side is coming apart. The driver is able to see the lining of the air bag. Dealer has been contacted.
The consumer saw cracks on the front passenger air bag compartment.
Front passenger air bag cover (on dashboard) is gradually splitting open.
The dash cover along the left side of the passenger air bag on my chrysler 300m has cracked. This crack has grown until it matches the entire length of the air bag compartment. Another crack has recently developed along the right side of the air bag. Body shops refuse to repair this area because of the liability involved with the air bag deployment.
I purchased a 2000 chrysler 300m in 2009. I didn't understand why the weather stripping around the doors was different until my mechanic said it shrunk. I spoke with chrysler and was told there was never a recall for this. I found complaints from people with the same problem online. They all said chrysler knew it was a defect but would do nothing about it. I feel it should be replaced at their cost not mine.
2000 chrysler 300 m ---cracked dashboad on passenger side of car. Dealer not willing to replace known problem.
The dashboard is starting to crack in three separate locations all surrounding the passenger side airbag creases. It appears this would be a safety issue since it compromises the airbag component where my wife sits everyday to and from work.if the three cracks continue all the way around the airbag will the airbag spontaneously deploy?if i decide to seal the three cracks will this effect the way the airbag deploys (or possibly make it not deploy) to the vehicle passenger?
My 2000 chysler 300m has a cracked dashboard along the seam of the passenger side airbag.this seems to be a common problem based on research i have conducted.the dealer has indicated that there is no recall on this item, even though this is a manufacturer fault that cannot be repaired short of replacing the dashboard.
Crack on dashboard - 2000 chrysler 300.
Two lengthly cracks in the vinyl covering of the dash above the airbag on passenger side.
Chrysler 200m front dash passenger area.vertical crack appeared at 2" and has increased in size to over 12" over time.passenger air bag is located in this area of the dash; appears as if internal pressure is causing crack to increase in size.unclear if passenger air bag has been compromised or will operate properly if deployed.multiple complaints of cracked passenger dash area have been documented with no apparent corrective action to resolve systemic issue.local dealerships are hesitant to repair/replace due to airbag liability and while i fully understand the age of the car should be taken in to consideration (normal wear and tear) this vehicle has been meticulously maintained.the car is still being manufactured and chryslers' quality control team should be engaged to evaluate number of complaints, risk analysis of passenger air bag functionality, and recommended corrective action plan.beyond cosmetic inconvenience, the crack in my dashboard continues to grow in size and i am uncertain if my passenger air bag is, or will be compromised. Doing nothing does not resolve the question of air bag reliability, and i understand the financial implication of a bulletin for a nine year old car, however there is also the potential to offer some type of fix for the dashboard for those whose vehicle is still is good working order and who wish to keep the car.recommend engagement of chrysler quality control team and resulting bulletin to provide owners with an option to repair the dash.
Dashboard padding cracked around the air bag on the passenger's side compartment/cover area. Consumer had a concern that it may cause a problem withair bag deploying improperly or inadvertently.
The dash cover along the left side of the passenger air bag on my 2000 chrysler 300m has cracked. This crack has grown until it matches the entire length of the air bag compartment.
Dashboard crack over passenger side air bag. Dealer will not repair under warranty/dealer cost. Chrysler says dash must be replaced. Concerned about additional cracking and airbag deployment problems.
We recently bought a 2000 chrysler 300m.about a month after we purchased this car a crack started on the dash over the passenger side airbag.it has since grown to about 10 inches.we are concerned this may be a safety issue and could affect the deployment of the airbag when needed. This seems to be an overall problem with this car as we have seen in online message boards and believe chrysler should respond and fix this problem before someone gets injured because of this.

The weather stripping on three of four doors on my 2000 chrysler 300m (43,300 miles) has shrunk and is not covered under warranty.i researched several consumer websites and learned that this is an inherent problem on this model.i would like to know if this problem has been or can be investigated.
The inside drivers door latch broke where the latch mechanism connecting the rod attaches. I can only open the door from the outside. The handle assembly is moldedi can't open the door quickly in the event of an emergency. The repair has not been completed, the door panel is on backorder.
1)car made loud clunking noise when going over bumps and traveling at slower speeds. Had car looked at by 2 different mechanic shops and they couldn't figure out the problem.2)finally took car in for a 3rd time and mechanic found the problem.3)car needed new tie rods, sway bars, etc. For steering/suspension problems. Car only had about 50,000 miles on it. Repairs cost over $1000.
The suspension jars and thumps over small bumps.
Steering is loose and makes noise over bumps.noticed this at about 40,000 miles and dealr confirmed the problem on myy 9, 2003.this seems to be an extremely common problem with this car and the their siblings.daimler chrysler certainly knows about this problem as it has been a point of discussion on numerous web sites.just search chrysler 300m steering problems and you'll see pages of complaints.
While driving vehicle pulled to the right and stalled. Then, it just completely failed. The tires and emissions failedinspection. Consumer took the vehicle backto the dealer , who originally did not do a good job.

I have a 2000 chrysler 300m and i have replaced the two front struts of the car about a dozen times and i have only owned the car for two years. I have seen my mechanic fix the problem each time and it is due to the poor quality of chrysler car parts. My front wheel has become disaligned 3 times to the point that the car was undriveable and had to get towed. My mechanic says each time i bring it in im lucky that the wheel didn't come off. I am afraid that the tire will eventually come off and that it is a severe safety issue and that chrysler should recall the part.

Tire pressure drops weekly. I must check my tire pressure at least every other week or it will drop below 20 psi. I usually run my tires at the maximum recommended tire pressure to reduce the interval at which i must check the tires.replaced tires and changed brands without any difference. Right front tire looked low and was checked to be at 26 psi. I hit a pothole on the way home and put a severe dent in the rim. Tire went flat approximately 30 seconds later. (speed at 45 mph). Replaced front wheel/tire with full size spare. Rear tire which had 30 psi went flat and rolled off the rim in a corner within 5 minutes. Rear rim also had a dent. It appears to be a corrosion sealing issue. The rims are 17" aluminum with steel center cap mounting brackets and bolted to a steel hub. I will paint the new rims and hubs to prevent the steel to aluminum contact which has been suggested to be the cause of the corrosion by a different dealer.*la

Windows stick to weather striping/molding causing motors to stop working.continuous problem.can't afford to fix rear windows, so they no longer open.motors are burning out because of defective weather striping material.normally happens during warmer time of year.dealer says that it's normal for all 3 or 4 to stop working at same time - pay the $800 to get it fixed - again.hazard - passengers in back seat cannot get window to roll down in an emergency - same in front seat when they stick.chrysler acknowledges problem in service bulletins.their 'expert advice' to service departments:use a credit card to unstick windows.use silicon spray to keep windows from sticking.we did that.they still stick because rubber material gets very soft in hot weather and then adheres to the window, causing it to seal tight and not roll down.only one touch on controller and the motor stops working.no advance notice.chrysler will fix the motor for $200 each, but will do nothing to replace the rubber window striping that is causing the problem.

This complaint has to do with what i believe is a defect on all chrysler 300m 1999 thru 2004.my complaint is the defect in the window design that lets the window glass come in contact with just rubber. There is noting between the glass and the rubber. This is what happened to my car twice, and not the same window. My complaint is the glass sticks to the rubber and gets pulled out of its track. All i did was put the window down and it pulled out of the track. The first time that happened the cost to repair was $130. Now it has happened again. I am doing nothing wrong just putting the window down. Felt should be between the window glass and the rubber. Chrysler should pick up the tab on that repair. Please help? others are complaining of this same problem in web groups on the internet.
I was unaware until recently that my car had side mirrors that were to automatically "swing down" when car is placed in reverse.whether they always did or it was not noticed because i didn't look into them while backing.about 5 months ago i occasionally noticed my side mirrors being misaimed.it was most disconcerting, to say the least to see the road surface when i looked in the side mirror.apparently from time to time the mirrors swung down when i had put the car into reverse, as they should.unfortunately, they did not swing back up when i put the car into forward.clearly, this creates an unsafe condition. *nlm
The windshield reflected the dash board on a sunny day, which made it difficult to see. *ph
There is a reflection coming from dashboard that blindsdriver on sunny days. Dealer says it's the design of the windshield being at an angle.
My real concern is that i may have purchased a test car without knowledge of such. On the top of the windshield reads, "chrysler proving grounds" visible only when the windshield is wet. Is this something that should be investigated further?
There have been repeated stress cracks in the windshield.i have on two occassion experienced the same crack. It starts under the seal on the drivers side about 4" off ofthe bottom, travells out about two inches, turns towards the top and travells to the sun visor area.it has not been caused by a strike to the window and each crack is almost identical in size and location.it looks like an "l" if viewed from the exterior.i suspect that the body lacks rigidity and is thus stressing the glass as it flexs.if the crack were to connect to the top portion of the window, the windshield could fail.the car is a 2000 chrysler 300m.
There is a glare from the front of the windshield.
The safety problem is with the design of the car. With the windshield having such a high angle of slant, during mid-day sunny days, the upper dash reflects so badly in the windshield that safe operation of the vehicle is greatly impaired. Even though the dash is in a matte finish, there is still considerable reflection. In my opinion, enough reflection to raise serious safety concerns.
Consumer states that while driving and no warning there is a terrible glare coming form the front windshield and it is distracting the consumer visibility.nlm

Wheel center cap falls off. Rusted through spindle dust cover.wheel center cap is held in place by steel spring tabs. The rim is aluminum. The center caps start getting loose and wobble when driving followed by them braking and falling off. This last time when i got the tires replaced the tire installer informed me that severe corrosion was taking place and that the spindle dust cover had rusted through allowing moisture and dirt to attack my wheel bearings. This vehicle has just turned three years old and i expect the wheel center caps and spindle dust covers should last more than a year each. This is the third time the wheel center cover(s) are to be replaced. I talked to the dealer and they said that it is an extremely common problem due to the weather in va. I also noted several 300m vehicles in parking lots with the center caps flopping around or missing. I firmly believe this is a defect of combining steel with aluminum without a protective coating or insulator to stop the corrosion.*la

Over the past 3 years the tires on the vehicle go flat due to a defect in the chrome plated aluminum rims that came on the vehicle.the dealer has indicated to me that there is a problem with all rims of this type due to the fact that the chrome plating when put on an aluminum rim causes a reaction that causes the rims to corrode from the inside out.when the corrosion erupts along the bead area of the tire it breaks the seal and causes the tire to go flat. I have spoken to chrysler directly and they claim that they are not aware of any such problem.however the new vehicles that have this type no longer use chrome but have a plastic chrome piece which is glued on to the aluminum rim.if this had not been a defect why would they have changed the design.
I have a 2000 chrysler 300 m that has chrome/aluminum wheels. About 8 months ago i noticed that i was losing substantial pressure in my tires on a regular basis. Thinking this was a problem with the tires, i took the car back to the store where i purchased the tires. Upon inspection, the service technician pointed out that my rims were corroding from the inside and that this affected the bead on the tire and caused it to lose pressure. He indicated that this was a "big problem" for chrysler cars and that the rims were "junk".i experience additional loss of pressure about every 5 weeks or so and have taken the car back to the tire dealer three times. Each time they point to the corrosion and their frustration with chrysler not dealing the problem. After the last incident i contacted a local chrysler dealer and spoke to one of their service technicians. When i explained the situation he said that it was a known problem and that other chrysler vehicles had the same issue, including the pt cruiser. He said that there was no recall and that chrysler was not allowing them to do anything about it other than grind down the corrosion and remount the tire, at the owners' expense.this is unacceptable. Having tires lose pressure because of a defect in the design and performance of the wheel is a clear safety hazard. I hope nhtsa will look into this and require chrysler to stand behind its product.thank you.

Complaint is with the alloy wheels on the 2000 chrysler 300m sedan.the design of the alloy wheels apparently is open and is very prone to winter roadway salt which over time creates pitted areas on the wheels resulting in the loss of tire pressure.over the past year or so, i have experienced this 4 times with pressures dropping to 10-25 lbs.the temporary fix suggested by the dealer is to have the pits ground down on the wheels (which i have had done to each wheel both at the dealer and at the tire company where i purchased the tires).the cost to replace the wheels at the dealer is $665 each!!i am very concerned about the safety of the car.the tires are 225/55 r 17 97h ch95 and it is difficult to determine if they are low on air by just looking at them.i worry about the tire air pressure dropping causing an accident on an expressway at high speeds. The dealer is aware of this condition occurring on other 330m's. What options do i have?
Problems with the rims leaking air and the tires collapsing while driving.*ph the consumer was told by the dealer that the rims were the problem, however they refused to replace them.the aluminum and chrome rims wore out from the winter salt on the inside of the rims and caused them to leak and eventuality the tire broke away from the rim and collapsed.
