I have a crack in my dashboard above the passenger side airbag.the crack is approx. 10" long.i have learned from other owners that the crack is a defect in the dashskin material of my 1999 chrysler 300m.i am concerned that the crack may allow the airbag to deploy too strongly or that the repair of the dashskin my restrict the proper operation of my passenger airbag.the crack is also unsightly.
Crack developing over the passenger air bag this seems to be a very common problem with these cars and chrysler doesn't care.99 chrysler 300m.
My airbags exploded on my chrysler 300m 1999 july 8th. The car doesn't have a recall on the airbags. Clean title.i came home from work, parked my car and everything was fine. 3 hours later i had to run to the store and as i walked towards my car i noticed both of my front airbags out. I looked around my car to see if there was any damage and i couldn't find anything. I assumed that the explosion of the airbags could've been due to the severe weather we had in our area, there was some flooding and also the hot/humid weather. I didn't move my car after seeing the airbags out, the car was left as is. I called my insurance company and told them what happened and they sent one of their agents to take a look and take pictures and check the car out himself. He was surprised to hear that airbags exploded without the car being in an accident, but he said that he would have to talk with some other people and see what they have to say because they've never come across a problem like this. About a week later he sent another agent to take a look at the car and he was surprised as well, he took a look at the car, inside and out, couldn't find anything. This was basically an investigation at this point. A week later the first agent calls back to notify me that they are unable to pay us for this damage and that we are on our own because they don't know what to do, they didn't know who to put the blame on. I then decided to call chrysler tell them what happened and they said they didn't know what to do either and also told me they couldn't help because it's a 99. In order to replace the airbags i would have to pay 4k out of pocket.
The dash on my car is splitting in the seam of the passenger side airbag. There is obviously a manufacturer's defect with airbag system. Chrysler has refused to repair the problem. I think that there is a possibility of the airbag not deploying properly.
The dashboard cracks along the srs airbag enclosure. This crack can not be repaired without jeopardizing the integrity of the airbag.
The dash board began to rip at the air bag component on the passager side of the car.the dealer will not cover it under warranty stating that it is cosmetic.dt
I own a 1999 chrysler 300m and the passanger side air bag is in the dash and has developed cracks around the air bag in the dash i have called and talked to chrysler customer service and complained about this and they basically told my out of warranty out of luck. Basically i would like something taking care of from chrysler what if this problem happens and i happen to be in a car accident and the passanger side airbag doesnt deploy for this reason now whats going to happen lawsuit, los of life maybe something should be done about this and i know im not the only one who has this problem with there 300m and also the seal around the doors of the car have a problem of shrinking they have shrunk so much sometimes not able to open the door. Theres another problem there if im in an accident and the car starts on fire and i cant get my door open because the weather gasket has shrunk so much i can't get the door open then what. I believe chrysler should take a look at the problems with there cars more and listen to the customers
The dashboard on my 1999 chrysler 300m has split on the right side just to the left of the air bag.my car has 36,00 miles and has been in a garage most of the time.i am concerned the air bag will not work properly.chrysler is not willing to repair the dashboard because the year warranty is out.the dash should certainly outlast the first set of tires and the original battery.i also know of several other 300m's with splits in the same spot.is this a safety issue with right side airbag?
The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m.the contact was attempting a turn when the vehicle abnormally accelerated and crashed into a residential home. The airbags did not deploy.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure and crash.the vehicle was destroyed.both the driver and passenger sustained minor injuries.a police report was filed.the failure and current mileage was 55,000.updated 05/10/12
I am not sure who manufactured the airbags in 1999 chrysler 300s, but i am wondering what would cause an airbag to have a hole in it and where the hole is, it was frayed, my daughter was the passenger when they were hit on the front passenger quarter panel and passenger door, the airbag deployed but had a big hole in it and was frayed where the hole was, like a flag that has been blowing in the wind for years,i am coming up on statue of limitations so your immediate response would be so appreciated!!!! my lawyer does have pictures of the airbag with the hole in it, and showing also how it was frayed.my daughter sadly lost her life in this accident, she was wearing her seatbelt. This accident occurred november 29th 2014 on hwy 23 near waite park mn, car was in motion, her name is [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Consumer states the air bag module has a crack where you can see the air bag material.dealer was contacted. Mr
I was recently in an auto accident and hit a driver who had turned in front of me when i had the right of way. I was traveling 55 mph when my 1999 chrysler 300m smashed into the man who tuned in front of me . To make a long story short, both of my front air bags did not go off during the crash. Who can i contact or what can i do about this.
Split in dashboard where passenger airbag is. Safety concern.
The passenger side dashboard where theair bag is located is cracking. The consumer is concerned that the air bag will malfunction.
My dash has cracked on the passenger side of my veicle, over the airbag.i am concerned about safety issues since it is over my airbag.there was not impact to the dash.it was not there went i parked the vehicle on mondy night and on tuesday afternoon i noticed it.
The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m. While driving at 15 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle's battery dropped to the ground. The failure caused a loss of power steering that later caused the vehicle to crash into a sewage area. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
A little under 50,000 miles when i got the vehicle. About a month later two vertical cracks appeared along the seams of where the airbag deploys.a friend informed me that they knew someone who had cracks in their dash too...in the same location!i thought that this was unusal.i did a little research and found out that this wasn't an isolated incident.several other 300m owners experience the same problem.there is indeed a problem with the materials used.i called repair shops and they said they would not touch it (due to the proximity of the air bag/ legal issues) i'm afraid that in the event of an accident the air bag will not deploy properly and will cause bodily injury to a passenger if this issue is not resolved .
"takata recall" on nov. 04,2015 a car pulled out in front of me. I had the right of way and was moving approx. 30-35mph. I t-boned the other vehicle. The airbags failed to deploy. There were 2 other passengers other than myself. The driver had hit his leg under the dash. I was in the front passengers seat and bothe my knees hit the lower part of the dash. My seat belt did work on impact and i went to the hospital by ambulance. My daughter inlaw was in the back seat behind the drivers side and she suffered 2 bumps on her head. As for me, i didnt have any broken bones but i sufered severe bruising. I was in shock and minutes after the accident i started feeling sharp pains to the left part of mychest constantly like needles stabing over and over. It was difficult for me to breath. I couldn't get a full breath. The last few days i've started having muscle spasms in my left side of my neck and upper left arm/shoulder. Other pain i've been having i've explained to the doctor and others and they tell me that it is my siatic (don't know how to spell it) nerve. If i stand wrong or reach up with my arms the pain goes from my lower back and all the way down the back of my legs. It's a deep aching pain that seems to be aggrivating. It is worse in the mornigs or when it it cold. I have to take muscle relaxers, dont know if there is any permanent damage. Only time will tell. Cat scan and x-rays came back ok. No broken bones. I have the police report of the incident but at this time i do not have the resources to scan and download. If its needed i can provide it at a later time. I have an attorney.
I have a chrysler 300m- 1999 model.for no reason, the dash now has a 6 inch split over the passenger airbag.i talked with the dealer, and they said nothing has caused it, and chrysler refuses to fix the defect.i think this is a safety issue, and i believe chrysler should stand behind their product and fix their problem.
Passenger airbag cover is cracked all the way around.
This is a huge problem with top of the line 300m cars.my car has only 60000 miles and the dash is cracked on both sides of the passenger side airbag.every dash repair person i called said this was their #1 complaint for 300m but they will not fix them due to liability issues.as consumers we are lead to think we are buying chryslers top of the line car.now they have a wide spread problem and are not willing to help loyal customers. The consumer must be protected with this terrible issue.
The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m. While driving at an unknown speed, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a telephone pole. The air bags failed to deploy. No injuries were reported and no police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000. The vin was unavailable.
I have a 1999 300m. Whan it was about 3 years old the dash board cracked in the air bag area on the passengar side. And a few months later another crack formed about 12 inches toward the driverside. Both on the air bag seams.
1999 chrysler 300m. 8 inch crack in dashboard following the seam of the passenger airbag. Can not be repaiered only solution is to replace the entire dashboard cover.
Dt: the contactwas involved in a crash. The contact's vehicle was struck by an eighteen wheeler on the driver's side frontand quarter panel. The vehicle went airborne and landed on all four wheels. However, the front airbags never deployed. The occupants in the vehicle were wearing seat belts. Upon initial impact the passenger seat belt unbuckled, she was thrown around the vehicle and landed on top of the driver. The driver and passenger sustainedinjuries to the back and neck areas. The police filed a report at the scene. The vehicle was repaired. Updated 02/13/06.
While vehicle was at the dealer, the front air bags deployed afterthe mechanic pulled the release button for the hood.*scc
I own a '99 chrysler 300m. The dash has develop a 10" vertical crack on the dash above the air-bag. I spoke with several other owners of similar 300m's, all have experienced this problem. I feel thesis a flaw in manufacturing and a major safety issue that needs to be corrected.
I am informing your office of a possible saftey issue regarding the air bag system.on my car, the dash board began to rip at the air bag component on the passager side of the car.i have brought up the rip to the chrysler serivce dept but to no avail.since contact other companies for the repair of the dashboard at the rip, i was told i should report this to your office because they had seen this rip on other vehicles as mine.they said the rip is due to the dash around the air bag was thinner for the air bag to deploy, but repairing the tear around the air bag was not possible becasue of a liability issue.the tear is right on the edge on the right side of the air bag system on the passenger side of the car.i felt when i first noticed a very small tear in the dash over a year ago, that the air bag would either deploy or would interfere with the deployement.over the year, the tear has gradually increased to the length of about 12 inches on the edge of the air bag system.
Six to seven inch crack appeared in dashpad on left side of passenger airbag. Appears that airbag could deploy or perhaps malfunction in the event of a frontal crash.
While driving hit median concrete and ran into some trees head-on, airbags did not deploy. Vehicle totaled. Dealer contacted.
2 inch vertical crack in dashboard over the passenger airbag.
While vehicle was parkeddual airbags deployed inadvertently.no injuries reported.
I have a split over the passenger side air bag.the split started out 3 inches long and now is 8-9 inches in length.my vehicle was taking to the chrysler dealership and told this was not a warranty item and the car is out of warranty, so i would have to come up with 1500.00 plus installation for a new dashboard.there are at least 50 300m's in this area, that have the same problem and i wish i could get all of them to put in a complaint, but some people never do what needs to be done.this seems to be a material problem were the material is stretched over the air bag.i am not sure if the air bag will deploy or if it will deploy when not necessary startling me as i drive and cause an accident.i've looked on this web site and see where several others have complained and i complained previously.is this defect being investigated?this seems to be a safety issue and could cause serious problems.my vehicle was taken to a vinyl repair shop and the service man said he wouldn't fix it, because he would be afraid the air bag wouldn't deploy properly.
Involved in a front end 50mph accident/airbags did not deploy.
10 inch vertical crack over passenger side air bag compartment.
While waiting at a stop sign vehicle was involved in a head-on collision. Upon impact, air bags not to deploy.
Was struck on front passenger side of car by oncoming vehicle.airbags did not deploy on impact.
Consumer states that there is a crack on the passener side dash.consumer is concern that the vehicles airbag may or may not deploy.please provide any further information. Ts
1999 chrysler 300m less than 3 years old has dash splitting where passanger side airbag is placed. Dealer refered me to a vinyl repair place who had repaired several others for them. Repairman refused to repair for fear of possible interference with proper operation of air bag. He stated that he had seen many with same problem.
Passenger side air bag has created enough pressure on the dashboard material so as to cause a 6 inch vertical split in the material. Is this an indication that the air bag could prematurely discharge and possibly present a hazard to a passenger and/or startle the driven sufficiently so as the precipitate an accident.*nlm
Last spring when i pulled my car out of my heated garage that it was stored in all winter i noticed about a 3" crack on the left side of the passenger side airbag.since then, that crack has grown to over 7" long and another one appeared this winter on the right side of the airbag that is about 3" long.i am afraid that the airbag will deploy without provacation.i also found that this may be a common problem on this website:http://www.chelstyle.com/chelstyle_jeep_complaints_chrysler_complaints_300m_dashboard_complaints_before_you_buy_a_chrysler_jeep.htmi went to the dealer and he said there is nothing the dealership can do about it and he has seen others with the same problem.
While driving about 60 mph and changing line to the middle, both air bags deployed without a prior warning.manufacturer was contacted.
While driving40 mph had head-n crash, and airbags did not deploy.contacted dealer. Pleas add vin.
Noticed foot long crack above passenger side air bag shorlty after buying vehicle. 1999 chrysler 300m. More information can be found at: http://p209.ezboard.com/f300menthusiastsclubfrm8.showmessage?topicid=647.topic.
Cracks appeared on the front passenger's side air bag compartment. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
Dashboard has cracked open around the outline of the passenger side airbag.separate cracks of 3,4, and 6" lengths.cracks began appearing right after expiration of warranty.according to manufacturer, only fix is to replace whole dash and they will not cover it.afraid of airbag deployment implications.
The car was in the park position with the engine running.when the car was shifted into the drive position, it suddenly surged forward at a great and uncontrolled rate of speed.the car struck the rear sideof the recreational vehicle, becoming impaled on it.the recreational vehicle was hit with such force that it was turned about thirty degrees counterclockwise.the recreational vehicle then struck a neighbor's parked vehicle.all three vehicles sustained significant damage.additionally, both the driver and passenger airbags failed to deploy.
The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m.the contact experienced air bag failure in the dashboard.the dealer stated that no repair would be performed because the vehicle was no longer under warranty.the failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 56,000.updated 03/18/08.*ljupdated 03/18/08
Passenger side air bag is not a separate unit in the dashboard area.there is a very large vertical tear/crack on the left hand side the entire length of the airbag.it is obvious this is a defect in the dashboard area where the airbag sits underneath.the crack is of concern because we are concerned the airbag could disengage and our safety is a factor.the cost to repair this is the cost of an entire new dashboard in the amount of $1200 plus.chrysler calls this cosmetic and will not cover the repair.
Speedometer drops to 0, transmission stuck in 2nd gear, engine light comes on.this has happened twice in the last 6 months.a/c keeps going out.thought it was a freon leak, but then the evaporator had to be replaced.a/c has now gone out again.right, rear power windows are also not operating at this time.
1st time pulling into traffic it stalled i lucked out had momentum to make it across. 2nd time not so lucky stopped at light attempted u turn stalled half way through stopped all traffic it would not restart for 4 min. So the rest is the same story put in shop cannot diagnose. Very bad safety issue.stalling and hard starting both intermittent and with out any warning and seems to happen more frequently (3 to 6 times a day).
My vehicle has been randomly stalling on me since july of 2008.it usually happens when i am on the highway.it will unexpectedly stall and the engine will shut down. I usually have to coast to the berm.it happens every one to two weeks.this week it has happened 4 times!i had it put in the shop yesterday and they ran a diagnostic check and cannot find anything wrong.they say it sounds like the crank shaft sensor but since it wouldn't cut off on them and there are no codes in the computer they cannot be sure.
-the contact has a 1999 chrysler 300m . While at a complete stop the vehicle completely lost powerwithout prior warning.the contact was able to put vehicle into park and restart it.thentook it to the dealership.at the dealershipthey couldn't detect any failure. Also, on 01/25/07 while vehicle was parked, all indicator lights flashed.
Dt:there is an electrical short throughout the vehicle.the problem first startedonmay 1, 2005.the first thing to go wrong was one of the speakers, whick made a static sound when it was turned off.then, the lights on the dashboardstarted flashing on and off.next all the electrical units flashed.the problem was constant and ongoing.it occurred even when the engine iwasturned off.this has caused the consumer to havethe battery replaced twice.
In 10/2005, 1999 chrysler 300 m was purchased. Two weeks later, lights would start flickering on inside of car. In the same time period, entire electrical system failed, and car would not start up. Car was jumped with battery vac, allowed car performance for one trip. Same day, battery was replaced and car would start, but inside light flickering was still a problem. In 11/2005, car shut down again. Vehicle was taken to warranty's body shop. Body shop claims car has electrical problem, and is not covered under warranty. Body shop says they jumped vehicle; when vehicle was returned, car operated correctly with no more inside light flickering failure. On 4/16/2006, car's electrical system shut down again and required jump from battery vac; jump only allowed car one trip, car fails to start up again.
I recently purchased a used 1999 chrysler 300m. I had no problems with the car for the first couple of months. After about 3 months i noticed the interior lights began to turn on and off by themselves. Shortly after that my factory stereo went out. The next thing i noticed was the transmission slipping. After that my driver and passenger side speakers went out. After that my headlights began turning on and off by themselves when the car was parked and turned off. After that my heating unit would come on automatically whenever i would start the car. I've noticed a slight burning smell inside the car once i've started it up. My heated seats work when they want to. There's a whistling noise underneath the hood. My engine sounds loud now. There's a strange noise coming from the rear wheel on the driver side. It sounds like something electrical is shorting out. Its has a dense high pitched sound. Sometimes when i'm driving at night and i have my headlights on they will flicker on and off. When i try to start the car the engine struggles to turn over. It seems as if either my battery is dying or my alternator has had it. The car has died on me before while i was driving it. There is a mysterious electrical problem with these chrysler 300m cars. I've taken my car to several mechanics and none of them could pinpoint the exact cause of all these problems i'm having with the car. I guess i'm '!@#$%. I can't afford to pay for all of these defects and i no longer have a warranty on the car. Yeah, i'm really !@#$%.
The electrical system failed, which caused the vehicle to lose all power.
The contact owns a 1998 chrysler 300m. While driving approximately 20 mph intermittent electrical failures have occurred since the vehicle was purchased. The electrical power windows failed and were replaced. The heated driver seat burned the contacts coat.the electrical instrumental panel was dim. The electrical didn't occur when the battery was replaced. The dealer stated that they can only diagnose the failure if it was duplicated. The dealer information was not available. The vehicle does not have antilock brakes. The current mileage was 94,751 and the approximate failure mileage was 5,000.

There were problems with electric windows and a crack in the dash.the electric windows had stuck shut due to the tight seal designed to reduce the wind noise, and the crack in the dash was around the passenger side air bag and appeared where the material was stretched over the air bag underneath.also, when the vehicle was two months old, the front wheel rotors had to be replaced, the battery was replaced in the first year, before 50k a defective bearing on the cooling fan was required to be replaced.*mr*scc *nlm
Consumer stated that while driving and without warning the battery caught on fire under the hood and the consumer was force to pull over. Dealer notified.mr

Dash is spliting around airbag i think this should be recall chrysler will not replace my dash because the warranty is over i think this is a real safety problem if the bag pops out anytime it get ready.
I own a 1999 chrysler 300m.purchased in january of 2001. When i purchased the car, it had already been repaired on the left side of the passenger air bag.when i asked the salesman about it, he said that they had repaired something electrical under the dash and probably had to go into the system at that point.after approximately 6 mos. The dash start to split in a verticle line along the right side of the passenger airbag.the service manager at the dealer said that he could not replace the dash under warranty because it was not covered and was only cosmetic.i tried to convince the manager that it was actually a manufactures defect.but instead of chrysler backing their product and focusing on customer satisfaction, replacing the dash, they repaired it one more time, and they gave me a cheap dash board cover to "hide" the defect - which slides all over the place every time i turn the car.i do not wish to use the sticky tape to hold it in place as i fear it will leave gummy substance melted into the dash causing more depreciation of the car.one of the service people told me that the split is occurring in the seam of the dash where the passenger's side airbag would deploy and that it is common!obviously there is a defect in the dash.i then contacted chrysler's customer service department in michigan, again nothing but a lot of excuses and no one willing to really listen to my complaint. I am not trying to ask for something unreasonable, i am only asking chrysler to fix something that they should have fixed while the vehicle was under warranty. The defect in the dash is affecting the resale value of my car and i think there is a potential safety hazard now with the passenger's side air bag.*ph
This vehicle seems to generate a high level of static electricity, or it's very sensitive to it.i receive electrical shocks when starting the car.it doesn't matter what clothing i wear.dt

The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m. The contact stated that her step-father was driving the vehicle and the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle coasted off of the roadway. The contact waited and restarted the vehicle before driving to the destination. The vehicle occurred several times and was towed to an independent mechanic was unable to determine the causes of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
Car started on the evening of august 12th, driven approximately 17 miles, stopped for 10 mins, restarted & driven 5 more miles. I went to start it again after about a half hour, would turnover but would not start. Car towed by mechanic 8/13/2014. As of 9/26/14, car has been in mechanic's care & unable to fix. Car being towed back to me with no further information on how to fix it. Mechanic has had vehicle on 2 separate diagnostic machines. Mechanic informed me he thought it was the computer then flywheel then back to computer but unable to fix it & giving up trying. This car is in good shape with low miles on it, i'm at a loss as to what to do or how to get it fixed. It was with mechanic 6 weeks & now being returned as "unfixable".
I was stopped & just put it into drive from park & the car just took off.i put my foot on the brake but it didn't stop right away.the car is totaled.the vehicle did property damage.
The car for no reason stalls andleaves no codes. It has been checked out at the dealers 2 timesand a mechanic once, they both say they cant fix it if it isn't broken. The dealer said drive it until it fails for good, my problem with that is if it stalls in say the outer lane of the interstate going 70 mph and i have no power to get out of the way from a 70 mph semi what do i do thenbodies all over the interstate and whos at fault then?

Engine died as i was making a left hand turn.pulled to the curb and tried to restart the engine.engine would turn over but not start.car towed to local mechanic who diagnosed problem as defective crankshaft sensor.hard to steer with the engine dead.not sure if my wife could have turned the car or not.extremely dangerous.
1999 chrysler 300m - have had the car since 2002.about a year ago we noticed it would stall during operation then immediately restart.now it has gotten worse.it just stops while at highway speeds, during city driving or even at a light.usually re-starts right away but lately it takes about 10 minutes before re-start is possible. Took to dodge dealer and they cannot find the problem.i won't allow my wife to drive the car as it is too dangerous.any feedback on what the problem is would be greatly appreciated.
While the vehicle was parked and while driving, oil was leaking from underneath the vehicle.consumer took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic i could not duplicate the problem, and claimed vehicle was operating as designed.
The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m.on july 29, 2007, while parked in the driveway for five hours, the vehicle caught fire.the vehicle and three other vehicles were destroyed.the driveway sustained property damage.a fire report was filed.the powertrain was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 110,000.
The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m.while driving approximately 15 to 20 mph the vehicle stalled, the oil light came on and the steering wheel locked.he shifted the vehicle into park gear and restarted the vehicle.the vehicle restarted and within a few minutes it stalled again after several attempts. Two days after the failure he took the vehicle to an authorized dealer who confirmed that the egr valve caused the failure to occur. The vehicle was not repaired since the parts are on backorder.the dealer does not know when the parts will be available. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000 and the current mileage was 111,065.
The evaporator coil needs to be replaced. 1 month after i purchased this vehicle used, i returned it to the dealership because i was having problems with the a/c making a whistling noise and not cooling properly.it was still under warranty at this point and they found nothing wrong. I took it back 2 more times since then and finally on the 3rd try they diagnosed it as a evaporator coil.i am trying to get the dealership/chrysler to pay, we'll knowtommarrow.

The first incident happened 3 days after purchasing our 1999 chrysler 300m, while driving the engine just stopped running, that meant that everything stopped working the steering, gas, etc. And then i found that if i don't warm the car up for about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes it will stop and while warming the car up it will stop at least 3 times in the process.my friend also has a 1999 chrysler 300m and hers recently started doing the same thing. I think this a very dangerous thing that happens while driving. It could possibly cause a serious accident.it has to be something wrong with these particular cars and chrysler should do something about it.

I have been in contact with an engineer at chrysler who is familiar with the lh jack and will be looking into the root cause. No word yet from chrysler's customer service.
The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m. The contact stated that the headlights would intermittently illuminate at night. The contact had to continue driving the vehicle to correct the failure. I have a chrysler 300 m vin # [xxx]. The aerodynamic head lights on the car developed a haze that severely reduces the illumination of the roadway at night. I have complained to the dealership and they say that the problem is not covered warranty. It seems to me that there is probably a government standard or engineering standard for the required amount of road illumination needed to make operation of a vehicle safe at night. I wonder how many cars are driving in substandard lighting conditions due to having these plastic lenses that do not hold up to road conditions and are so hazy as to make safe driving visibility questionable. I know that all the modern cars have these type lenses but how can the nhtsa not require that these devices be made to endure the expected life of the vehicles they are installed on. When they are new they look good. Beyond 2 years they begin to deteriorate rapidly. And here is the real customer rip off: the dealer tells me that for a mere $700 plus dollars they can replace these fixtures. They also come with no guarantee!. What was wrong with the earlier model cars that had glass head lamps and could be replaced for less that $ 10.00 total. They did not haze up like this expensive cheap plastic. It would be interesting to know how many night time accidents really happen because of poor visibility, yet do not get attributed to such simply because the drivers did have their lights on and that is all that was considered necessary. Again if you drive very much you probably have been stopped by the road patrol at night due to having a head lamp out. Seems to me that this problem is just as significant as driving with a head lamp out. What are we missing here? is it against the law for me to drive at night without any lights? there must be some requirement to ensure thatmanufacturers designwith adequate lighting for driving at night, and that should mean that the lighting be serviceable for the expected life of the vehicle. *lainformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of informa

Our 1999 chrysler 300m (vin #2c3-he66g2xh-622721) has plastic aerodynamic head lamps that have developed a "haze" that severely reduces the illumination of the road at night.i am not an engineer and do not purport to offer a professional opinion on this issue, but can report as a consumer that the illumination appears to be about half of what it was when the car was new.this haze began appearing somewhere in the three to four year of age range.it took a while to figure out what was going on but by five years of age the deterioration was at a point where we believe it is a lighting safety issue.i discussed this situation with ted vogalie who is the district level representative for chrysler on january 16, 2004 at the ancira chrysler dealership in san antonio, tx.i requested that chrysler treat this as a defective part and replace the headlights.mr. Vogalie refused to offer this assistance.in our conversation he made much of the fact that the haze appeared to be on the outside of the headlight and cited this and the age/mileage of the car (5 years/ 57,000 miles) as reasons for not offering to replace the headlights.i explained to him that this car's usage can be characterized as "coddled" since it is routinely parked in a garage and has no unusual road conditions or other unusual usage.this condition is dangerous enough that i have ordered replacement headlights and am going to replace these defective parts even though the retail cost of doing this replacement is around $800.it is unconscionable that chrysler is allowed to equip an automobile with a defective part like this that poses a safety issue so early in the automobile's life and unload a very expensive repair on the consumer.i have an extended warranty issued by chrysler on the car and this part is not covered.
Headlight lens (both) have become very cloudy and is reducing brightness of lights.will need to be replaced soon.over $300 each plus labor.
There is a film that covers the headlights. Consumer states that it is hard to see while driving at night. Tookvehicle to the dealer, and was told that he could replace the lens for a total of $1,000.
Dt: contact stated the plastic covering on the headlightsfogged up and became dirty . They are no longer effective during use.the service dealer stated there was nothing that they could do about it because it was not covered under the warranty, they could replace the covering of the lights at the consumers expense. .the consumer stated she must use the high beams at times.
Dash lights blink on/off when head light switch is in the automatic position.the automatic head light switch is no longer reliable. Lights need to turned on/off manually.at the dealership i was told this was a common problem with the 300m, this faulty switch is not covered under warrenty.one year later, interior dash lights now blink on/off causing distraction.drivers seat position button is now starting to move up and back during incorrect times.at times seat power doesn't work at all.totally electrical???

The car for no reason stalls andleaves no codes. It has been checked out at the dealers 2 timesand a mechanic once, they both say they cant fix it if it isn't broken. The dealer said drive it until it fails for good, my problem with that is if it stalls in say the outer lane of the interstate going 70 mph and i have no power to get out of the way from a 70 mph semi what do i do thenbodies all over the interstate and whos at fault then?
1st time pulling into traffic it stalled i lucked out had momentum to make it across. 2nd time not so lucky stopped at light attempted u turn stalled half way through stopped all traffic it would not restart for 4 min.

1999 chrysler 300m, driving along freeway at 60 mph, sudden deceleration. Big scare for wife coming home in rush hour. Speedometer read zero, and the transmission was stuck in first gear. My chrysler 300m loses its power brakes whenever it is cold and it seems damp out side. The power brake booster seems to be the problem. When the car warms up it works good enough to drive but the brakes are still sluggish. After driving the car for 15 min to half hour the brake booster seems to start working ok. It has done this since i bought the car. I have no braking when the car is cold sometimes! and a loud sucking sound comes out of the brake booster when its hanging up.

Shakes & shimmies; wobbles & bobbles. Steering somewhat unpredictable. Goodyear tires rebalanced 5 times, and 2 front end alignments by dealer. Replaced all 4 tires at 12k. Still shimmies/bumps/vibrates. Installed third set of tires (michelin) at 25k. 1999 300m chrysler "steering wheel problems". We purchased the vehicle in 2000 at a used dealership with 30,000 miles, ever since we have been experiencing the same problem over and over again and cost us a lot of money. On one occasion wherewe were driving on the freeway all of sudden the steering wheel locked itself and luckily it was not busy on the road and safely pulled on the side. I took it to the chrysler dealer and pay $1400 to replace the whole steering wheel. As of today, again, the steering wheel looses its steering and it just keep rolling and it so loose. I contactedand did not want to assist in any way or even offer me a discount to fix it. They said warranty was up. I cannot believe the lack of attention from chrysler to my problem and i think its a safety issue here.

Alignment has been off for about 2 years.took to mymechanic friend and he said that all the bolts associated with my rack and pinion had become loose.he tightened the bolts up, and the very next day they worked loose again.he did research on my vehicle and found that there are several complains about the rack and pinion and is shocked that chrysler has not made a recall yet.i have not had any major accidents or problems, but as i read on the internet someone has died from the rack and pinion problems, and there has been several problems due to the rack and pinion not functioning properly.my mechanic friend is going to try to tighten the bolts again using lock tight(?) on the bolts and hopefully this will help the problem.my fear is that there are others who have the same problem, as listed on www.arfc.org/complaints/2000/chrysler/300m/steering/problem.aspxand cannot get the help that they need and their only help lies within a recall by chrysler especially due to the difficult economy.not everyone is lucky to have a mechanic that is a friend.
The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m.the contact was informed by a repair shop that the suspension needed replacing on her vehicle.she further stated that if she drove over the slightest bump at 50 mph, the steering would fail.she experienced the same failure in her previous vehicle, a 1996 chrysler concorde.a mechanic informed her that if she drove around a curb, there would be a good chance that the steering would greatly malfunction.the powertrain was unknown.the current mileage was 140,000 and failure mileage was 138,000.
Streering in the chrysler 300m has been a problem from day one.it has 56,000 miles and the steering has 3 to 4 inches of play in it.i've had this in the dealer to fix the steering problem at least 6 times. It now seems that to fix the problem it will cost $1,500.this problem is serious and affects the operation of the vehicle.
It is seemingly impossible to align a 1999 chrysler 300m, and this has been quite an alarming recent experience for me, having just bought a used one and having changed a lot of front-end suspension parts before aligning and re-aligning. I feel so horrible for the people who bought and continue to buy these 300 cars today. In comparison to my other cars, (a 1993 pontiac firebird and even an older chrysler product, a 1986 daytona) which can be easily aligned if all the right parts are in and work well, the 300m simply cannot be aligned it seems, no matter what parts are changed. What a shame for america manufacturing! shame!
The consumer experienced total steering failure on 1999 chrysler 300m.*mrthe failure occurred when the driver was backing out of a parking space.
While attempting to make a right turn into a shopping mall the power steering on my 1999 chrysler 300m went out.(note: this is the first time this had happened) i had to use most of my strength to complete the turn. I pulled into a nearby parking space with the same difficulty and ran my errand. When i re-entered the car the steering was back to normal until i got to my house about 5 minutes later when the power steering again went out. I left thecar parked until the next morning. I drove to a dealership about 20 miles away and then later back home when the dealer could not find any problem. I did not experience any issue with the power steering either on the way to or from the dealership nor has it occurred since then. I am reporting this because of my concern that this may be a precursor to a dangerous situation. I have read about the many steering related problems with my type of vehicle and felt it was important for the safety of others to pass this information on.

One night turned left and car wanted to turn right. While normal driving the car would pull left and right. Countless amount of events were i almost crashed. 3. Rack and pinion was replaced along with tie rods. Old parts are available if requested.
The steering was very loose and dealer fixed tie rods as possible cause, but the problem continued and rack and pinion steering was replaced twice.

This a complaint in regard to an article i read about a law suit with the chrysler company in reguards to steering problems with their lh series cars. I own a 1999 chrysler 300m and for about the last year there has been rattling noises but just noises then in august of 2002 i started to get excessive play in the steering. I stopped driving the vehicle until i could get it fixed but in feb 2004 i was in an accident in my pick up truck so i had to start using the vehicle to go back and forth to work. I put 200 miles a day on it. I have just bought a used steering rack because i have determined that to be the cause, but after reading about the article i don't think i should use it and as far as i can tell there is really no suitable replacements. What am i supposed to do not drive a car i am still paying on because it is unsafe!!! i feel chrysler should have to recall these vehicles!!!
My rack and pinion failed.the replacement out of warranty was preceeded by very sloppy steering and knocking in the suspension.this is a major problem for chrylser lh cars but is not being addressed by chrysler outside of warranty.there are numerous complaints on 300m internet forum sites about this issue.this problem manifest itself in wandering steering and ultimately complete steering failures.surely this is a safety issue that chrysler should be made responsible for especially for those that do not want to pay $1200 to get the unit replaced.this procrastination, due to cost, will insure that the wandering and knocking will ultimately result in a steering failure and accident.the dealership fixed the problem.i contacted the chrysler main and regional offices to see if they would assist in the expediture to fix the problem.they declined.mr
Steering rack binds when vehicle is turning making it very hard to control vehicle. Dealer said dc will do nothing to help cover costs of replacement rack @ 1200$. Have put almost a million miles on various vehicles and have never come across a defect that is as unsafe as the 300m steering.
While driving 45mph steering rack broke, causing loss of steering.
Last evening, i lost steering power.i was backing out of a parking space! i have a 1999 chrysler 300m. The steering rack was replaced by the manufacturer in july 2000 when i complained of noise in the steering and i was told then by the dealer there were problems with the steering rack on the 1999 300m - apparently there was a design flaw in the part, and because it was being replaced with the same model piece, the dealer could not guarantee it would not happen again.at the time my car had 23,482 miles on it.the dealer told me last night that the steering rack has now been redesigned. The cost to replace it will be $1,156.95 plus tax.my car now has approximately 51,200 miles on it.i called chrysler and requested, that since this was not ordinary wear and tear, and since the part was defective from the beginning, they should pay for it.they argued that since they paid for the first replacement because the car was under warranty, they are not obligated to pay it again.i was told there had been no recall and since i did not have an extended warranty there was nothing they could do.i very nicely told them that in my opinion, the fact that the part was defective in the first place, and the same part was put back in, it most certainly is their problem and they are extremely lucky that i was not driving on the roads or a severe accident would certainly have taken place, and a lawsuit would be filed against them.they told me the only recourse i had was to ask for a discount from the service manager.is there anything you can do?this is a very dangerous situation and don't understand why chrysler did not recall it.i certainly am not the type to complain for the sake of complaining.i believe i have a legitimate complaint against chrysler and would like to pursue this issue further. I would like to be reimbursed for the cost and any guidance you can give me will be most appreciated.

After parking my car in my heated garage for most of the winter in sw pa, i got into it in the spring and noticed a small crack in the dashboard on the passenger side where the airbag is.since then, that small crack has grown to about 8 and another one appeared on the right side that is now about 4.i am afraid my airbag will accidentally deploy on even a small bump in the road.my car currently has about 53k on it.i will soon be contacting my local chrysler dealer to complain!any hints you can provide on handling this will be appreciated!

Over the course of the past couple years, i have developed a 7 inch crack in the dash above my passenger side air bag of my 1999 chrysler 300m.crack continues to grow and concerns safety.no repairs done due to proximity of air bag.
The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m.therewas a crack in the dashboard on the passenger's side of the vehicle, near the air bag.the failure mileage was 100,000.the contact took the vehicle to three dealers, and no one would repair the vehicle due to liability issues involved with the crack being so close to the air bag.the dealers diagnosis was to replace the dashboard.
5" crack in the dash cover(passenger side) to left of air bag in my 1999 chrysler 300m.am hesitant to fix myself due to proximity of air bag, and new dash cover costs approx.$ 1,000.00--300m owners web-site lists this problem chronically.
My 1999 chrysler 300m has developed 2 cracks on the right side of the dashboard, on either side of the passenger side air bag. I researched this online and it is a very common problem. The cracks form only on the passenger side and always on either side of the air bag. I tried to get the cracks repaired, but no one is willing to do the work due to the proximity of the air bag. I believe this is much more of a safety issue than simply a cosmetic one due to the following reasons:the air bag is designed to deploy with a given amount of force. In my car, the amount of force necessary to break through the dashboard material is factored into the force of airbag deployment. The dash is already cracked, the air bags may (note, i did not say "will"--i'm not a chrysler engineer) deploy too forcefully, thereby causing greater injuries to a passenger-side occupant.it's also possible that the dash won't break away properly, causing an excessive amount of dashboard foam or other material to be projected toward the face and body of the passenger-side occupant and causing lacerations and/or eye injuries that might not otherwise be encountered in a medium-speed front-end collision.and it's also possible that if the dashboard is compromised, it may interfere with air bag deployment altogether.please note my complaint and take any action that your office may feel is necesary to correct this problem. Thank you in advance for your time.please see this link for others who are havign the exact problem that i am having.http://300mclub.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3903&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=garage+door.
There was a split in the middle of the dashboard where the air bag was located.the dealership was unable to repair the split because it may render the airbag operation.the cause of the split had not been determined. *sc
Consumer stated leather on the dashboard split where the airbagslocated, the splits were on both sides of the air bag section. Consumer tookvehicle to the dealer, and was told that the warranty on the vehicle did not cover the leather splitting on the dashboard. Then, consumer called the manufacturer, and they said the same thing. *tc

Vertical crack in dashboard over air bag in my 1999 chrysler 300m. I'm concerned this will pose a safety issue if the airbag ever needed to deploy.
As many people have told me there seems to be a recurring problem that has happed to my chyrsler 300m 1999.the passenger side dashboard is cracking by the air bag.i believe this should be a recall that has not yet happened.
Crack developing over the passenger air bag this seems to be a very common problem with these cars and chrysler doesn't care.99 chrysler 300m.
Dash on my 1999 chrysler 300m has a crack on the passenger side where the airbag is located. We bought the car new and have kept it in our garage. The crack is not new it has been there for years. My uncle had the exact same crack in his 1999 300m as well. I've learned via the internet that this is a very common problem. I feel it could be a safety hazard since it exists right over the air bag.
The passenger's dashboard where the air bag is located has developed a 12 inch crack.

The passenger side dashboard where theair bag is located is cracking. The consumer is concerned that the air bag will malfunction.
Split in dashboard where passenger airbag is. Safety concern.
The dashboard had developed a cut or tear, where the passenger side air bag is installed.this could result in premature deployment of the passenger side air bag.the dealership indicated that the tear is a cosmetic issue and it is not covered under warranty.the tear cannot be repaired because it's a safety hazard, so the entire dashboard needs to be replaced. Consumer heard from other service dealers that the tear was due to the thinning of the dashboard to make the deployment of the air bag easier.*la
I own a 1999 chrysler 300m and i noticed that the dashboard has a crack along the left side of the passenger air bag.i went to a vinyl shop to get it repaired and they told me they would not be able to repair it because it could affect the airbag deployment.my only option is to get the dashboard replaced which my dealer told me would cost $1000.the dealer told me that having the crack there could also affect the airbag deployment.i am not the first person to complain about the dashboard cracking in this area on this car.this repair should be covered by chrysler, as it's their shoddy vinyl.it should be noted that this problem doesn't seem to be occurring in newer models and therefore i would assume chrysler has found a fix.

The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m. While examining the vehicle the contact noticed a crack in the dashboard near the passenger side air bag. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the dashboard was resurfaced; however, two weeks after the vehicle was repaired the failure recurred. There were no prior warnings. The failure mileage was 70000 and the current mileage was 72000.
Soon after warranty on my 1999 300m expired a crack developed on driver side of vehicle. I complained to the dealer and nothing was done. No repair shop would attempt to fix it because they would not want to be responsible for airbag.months later a split developed on passenger side near airbag.i am very concerned that the airbagmay or may not deploy. I now have a 12 inch split on driver side and a 8 inch split over the passenger airbag. It is unsightly and unsafe and effects the resale of the vehicle.

6" crack in dashboard above passenger air bag.
I have a 1999 chrysler 300m.on the passenger side of the dash board, a crack exists on the whole left line of the airbag.now, another crack is forming on the right side of the airbag line.i know of another 300m that has the same problem.i am complaining because chrysler refuses to fix this obvious defect because my car is past the factory warranty (53,000 miles).even that being the case, i feel chrysler should be responsible for fixing this problem.i am concerned if this could affect the way the airbag will perform, or cause it to deploy when it is not intended to.i would appreciate your help and inquiries on this subject.*nlm
My passenger vehicle has a crack developing in the dash on the left side of the passenger air bag. This crack is about 5-6 inches long and appears to be growing. It is in line with what appears to be a slight depression where the air bag is located. This cannot be repaired by any cosmetic means due to the possibility of rendering the air bag ineffective. The dealer says it is not covered by any warranty or service recall. They will replace it for a mere #1100.00 plus. I don't understand why the safety devices are required to be installed in the cars when they are new but they are not covered by any warranty standard that requires the devices to be functional beyond the day you purchase the vehicle? for me as a customer this neither protects me by assuring my personal safety nor does it protect me financially. This is a rip off. Could any independent manufacturer survive building these devices and selling them under conditions that they will most likely to fail before you need them and cost a bundle to repair and that includes no warranty. *la

1999 chrysler 300m, tan interior, two 12" cracks along air bag on dashboard.
I recently noticed a crack in the dashboard of my 1999 chrysler 300m over the passenger airbag. The crack is about two inches long and getting bigger. There is also an oily substance surrounding the crack. I feel that this is a safety concern and may compromise proper deployment of the airbag resulting in bodily harm or possible death in the event of an accident. I am concerned that if i were to repair the crack it would it would further compromise the deployment of the airbag. Having researched this online it appears that many of the other identical models have the same problem.
Dt:the consumer stated there was a crack by the air bag on the dashboard.another crack formed above the dashboard.the dealer said that they could not do anything about it and said there has not been any complaints.the consumer went online and discovered there was numerous complaints about this problem on the website.

My vehicle has a severe shimmy/vibration between 55 and 65mph which is progressively getting worse.the dealer has put on three sets of tires and wheels and has done mutiple wheel balancing.the problem is progressively getting worse and the chrysler factory representative has admitted the diamler/chrysler is aware of the problem and their engineers are working on the problem.i have had my vehicle ito the the dealer 14 times for this problem.their final answer last week was that neither the dealer or diamler/chrysler will attempt to correct this problem again and that i should file under the georgia lemon law for compensation.i am not sure where the problem lies so consequently the multi-choice component list.i do not believe it is wheel or tire related after all of the changes but chrysler does blame the goodyear tires, however they have never swapped them for any other brand.this is a dangerous condition that has been shared with other 300m owners on the web.it is particularly severe in hot weather and in rainy conditions.if the manufacturer admits to a defect, then i believe it is required to remedy the situation.
The vehicle exhibited a continuous problem with tyhe steering, on two occasions the vehcile was taken tot he dealer where they installed a new part, but within 6 months the problem reoccured, the vehcile was then taken to a different shop where they determined that there was a design problem and they replaced the frony link pin, currently the vehicle is working fine.

Bought 300m chrysler in june 2000. From time of purchase numerous tires were replaced due to belts shifting.in dec '03' started hearing a metal to metal noise in the right front especially on slow turns.after arriving in fla on vacation due to an increasing noise in the right front on jan 17th brought car to flagler chrysler dealer, after $582 worth of work they informed me they could not detect the source of noise.onfeb 4th brought car to a goodyear front end garage, after $260 they were sorry but could not find source of ever worsening noise.on feb 20th brought car to pompano beach chrysler dealer, again after $330 they also were sorry they could not find sorce of this noise.considering the long drive back home we decided for safety sake to get rid of this problem car and buy another vehicle to drive home.obviously as we no longer have this car our complaint if more for informationalpuposes. There were various symptoms which seem to have culminated in the crash on 6/29. The first time tires were rotated, one tire could only be "almost" balanced; i drove the car from chas., sc to atlanta had a flat tire that turned out to be a defective rim not tire. Recently had tires rotated and alignment done. Car pulled to the right; took it back now car pulls to the left. Evening of 6/29 on i-26 east-bound experienced a complete loss of steering control. Car spun out and hit center retaining wall. No injuries other than seat-belt bruises. Waiting for estimate on damage - entire right side damaged.
While driving on "non crown" roadvehicle pulls to left which may cause a loss of vehicle control.also, defective differential and vent leaked fluid 3 times.dealer could notdetermine the cause of the problem.please provide further information.

Shakes & shimmies; wobbles & bobbles. Steering somewhat unpredictable. Goodyear tires rebalanced 5 times, and 2 front end alignments by dealer. Replaced all 4 tires at 12k. Still shimmies/bumps/vibrates. Installed third set of tires (michelin) at 25k. At 26k after 2 front end alignments, 6 tire rebalances, and 3rd set of tires, vehicle continues to shake and wobble and steering seems a little bit dangerous.

My problem is with my 1999 chrysler 300m. This is my wife's primary source of transportation. She is a stay at home mother. The vehicle has relatively low miles, 77k because the vehicle is driven little and only for errands and short trips with our (2) small children. The vehicle is stored in a garage. Our experience was upon returning home 6/17, we turned onto a residential street approx. 1/4 mile from our house. We heard a loud noise. We got out of the car to find the entire passenger side wheel assembly detached from the vehicle. The chrysler service technician has since told us the failure was the front ball joint breaking in turn snapping off the spindle and bending the strut and front fender. He told us " we don't even stock these parts because they never go bad." and " this shouldn't have happened."my concern is that this happened at a low speed. 15-20 mph. At high speeds, it seems certain to me serious damage and bodily injury could occur. Chrysler has offered no compensation or explanation for this problem. I was rebuffed to even get information for a possible recurrence on the driver side. Can you tell me if this vehicle is safe? chrysler did tell me part of the reason they rejected responsibility was because the car had multiple owners and the previous one may have mis-handled the vehicle. We know the previous owner. It was my father-in-law. He enjoyed the car so much he leased another one. This car has regular maintenance checkups. Nothing in my service manual indicates there may be a failure of this magnitude at this point in the vehicles life. I'm reporting this to nhtsa so there is a formal record on file in the event there is a catastrophic accident again. I feel blessed to have been on a surface street as the entire family was in the car. The bill for this repair is excessive. The chrysler 300m, to my knowledge was chrysler's most expensive vehicle in 1999.

Initially in may 2002, i had to replace a rim on my 1999 chrysler 300m because it had cracked due to corrosion (this is what i was told by the technician who discovered it). I have had my 300m for a little over a year now and noticed that there was a small crack developing on the left side of the passenger airbag. The crack quickly grew from about 1 inch to about 7 inches in a matter of days. I had a local company cover the damage but there was not much they could do without interfering with the reliability of the airbag deployment. After searching the internet for other people having these issues, i have found that just about everyone that owns a 300m has this same problem including my sister. I read that the tear in the dash is because the dash is thinner around the airbag to allow deployment, thus a pricey repair (replacement). I believe that since this is a safety issue, that chrysler should pick up the tab on this one.

The dashboard on the passenger side started to split open near the airbag compartment.i showed this area to a service department employee, and he told me i would have to pay to have it repaired. It was considered trim, not an item covered by warranty.i told him it appeared to be a problem with the airbag compartment and i felt chrysler should be responsible.i had the repairs done at my expense, and the person who did the repairs, said he has repaired 6 or 7 other 300m's, in two different states, with the same problem. He also stated he would, if needed tell the appropriate people, that it appears to be a manufacturing defect. All the cars he repaired, had no attachments placed on the dash to cause the split, and all appeared to be too straightto be a tear. It was an area that was pulling apart. I am concerned about the possibility of my air bag deploying ,unexpectly and causing an accident or injury.

My answer from them was to go to a junk yard and buy a dashboard.i tried several shops to get this repaired and no one would touch it because of the liability.i do not feel safe not knowing if the bag will deploy right in case of an accident . The repair shops i took it to said this is not the first one they have seen on this model and thought it should be reported to you.
3" crack in passenger side dash where the airbag is deployed from.i have a 1999 chrysler 300m.
Dashboard is cracking wherepassenger's side air bag is located.there isone and three quarter inch crack ondashboard section directly aboveair bag. Dealership and manufacturer refused to examinevehicle.a private mechanic informedconsumer that this crack could affectoperation ofpassenger's air bag.please provide any additional information/attachments.
My dash has a 12 inch vertical crack left of the airbag.this is in the area of the dash were it is set in for the air bag.i called chrysler and they said this isn't a hazard.i don't agree with them.no one will even touch the dash in that area to fill or fix the problem because it could case the air bag not to work!so, i don't understand why this wouldn't be an issue with chrysler.to me it is a safety issue and i want it fixed.my life and my families life is more important than the manufacture not taking responsibility.i read the web site of complaints on the dash and it seems to be a very common issue with the 1999 300m.i think the government should make them fix this and quick!!!
1999 chrysler 300m the dashboard had 2 vertical cracks in the dashboard along the passengers side airbag.
I own a 1999 chrysler 300m.in february of 2001, i took my car to elkins chrysler in durham, nc, to have several things looked at before my car went out of warranty.everything was fixed with the exception of my dashboard. The service manager at the time said that he could not fix the dash under warranty because it looked like to him that the dash had been cut. I tried to convince the manager that there was no way that my dash had been cut, but that it was actually a manufactures defective. Instead of chrysler backing their product and focusing on customer satisfaction, i was referred to a man who does vinyl and leather repair. I spent a hundred dollars out of my on pocket to have the split in my dash repaired. Since that time i have had to live with a dash that was not very appealing to the eye.recently my dash has started to split again. It is along the same vertical axis as the first split, but about 6 inches higher. Charles emanuele of elkins chrysler told me that the split is occurring in the seam of the dash where the passenger's side airbag would deploy. Obviously there is a defect in the dash. Again elkins chrysler refused to fix my vehicle, because now they said it was out of warranty. I then contacted chrysler's customer service department in michigan, again nothing but a lot of excuses and no one willing to really listen to my complaint. I am not trying to ask for something unreasonable, i am only asking chrysler to fix something that they should have fixed while the vehicle was under warranty. The defect in the dash is affecting the resale value of my car and i think there is a potential safety hazard now with the passenger's side air bag.

Speedometer stopped working, transmission hung in 2nd gear, check engine light come on.31,000 miles.
Vehicle was in park and idling. When put into reverse, the engine raced full throttle and car crashed into cans. Whenput into what appeared to be park, car took off forward with tires burning so much smoke, visibility was impossible.car was uncontrollable and crashed through wooded area into a tree. Engine was still racing and did not stop until ignition key removed. Foot was never once on the accelerator. Seemed throttle was somehow stuck wide open. Speed uncertain as it went approx 200 ft before crashingand tire smoke was so thick. Three people witnessed incident.
Throttle stuck wide open when flooring gas pedal.i was accelerating to merge into highway traffic.throttle remained open as i turned ignition off and on (alternating full power and no power while proceding to next exit of highway.)at full stop, i completely shut down engine, and placedshift lever in park. I started car again and it raced to max rpm, and finallyreleased throttle.
The contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300m. While driving at 45 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated when the contact attempted to slow down to make a turn. The failure occurred on two prior occasions and both times, the contact was trying to accelerate to pass another vehicle but the vehicle would not stop accelerating. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 100,500. The current mileage was approximately 101,000.
The consumer's vehicle was side swiped.the consumer attempted to swerve out of the path and then the accelerator became stuck which resulted in the consumer not being able to stop the vehicle.

When the failure occurred, no obstruction was found on the throttle pedal, hazard lights were turned on and the brakes were applied to keep from further acceleration until the ignition key was turned to off shutting down the engine.repair was performed at a chrysler dealership. Problem identified by dealer as ' high idle', corrected by tightening throttle body screw and fixing misaligned throttle body. Repair cost - $45.00.
Dashboard started cracking from windshied area all the way down ,then another crack did the same.one crack is on passenger side and one in the middle of dashboard.
Right front and left rear windows will not open. Right front was fixed once under warranty but is no longer covered. Car only has 22000 miles. Dealer says they see this problem all the time.
Dt: the windows will not work, none of the windows go up or down.
1.normal everyday driving2.several power windows on the car have stuck closed. Couldn't roll down window.3.several power window motors were replaced on the car.fortunately, this was covered under the warranty.however, i now have a back glass that sticks intermittently and have repaired it several times myself!
I have approximately 69000 miles on my 1999 chrysler 300m.as a retiree i was looking forward to owning it for at least 10 years before considering purchase of a new car.my problems with the 300 started in jan of '99inoperable window motorsa ) 1/28/99957 miles drivers sideb)3/30/993792 miles right rearc)6/7/99 6301miles right frontd) 8/01/0127364 milesleft rear indow also crack in dashall of the above were under warranty.the following were not under warranty1) 7/25/0240046 milestransmission sensors (wouldn't shift properly)2) 2/14/03about 46000 miles drivers side window again.i replaced the motor3) about4/03 47000 miles, right rear window motor caput.still caput.4) about50000 miles, 2 of 6 radio speakers do not work5) 6/03/04 58528 milessignificant shimmy after new tires and alignment and balance.still shimmies. 6) 6/19/0458561air coditioner compressor failsmy problem is i guess i don't complain enough.i was prompted to do so this time after surfing the net and found i was not alone in this regard.perhaps some good will come of my plight, if not for me, someone else.this was the 1st and last chrysler daimler product i will own.
The power windows have malfunctioned on every windon in the vehicle.the power window motors have been replaced 8 times.each time they are under warranty, but warranty runs out soon.regarding the front suspension.the car shimmies and the steering is loose (steering wheel shacks in your hands).had front end alignment done but this did not fix the problem.contemplating new tires but see others with similar problems and this did not correct the problem.
Had to replace motors in both rear windows and the window had to be replaced on the driver side due to the broken tab at the bottom of the window.according to the salvage yard owner this is a very common problem.front end also shimmies had alignment didn't fully correct problem.
Left rear window stuck in up position.will not operate at all.paid for extended warranty and the dealer says that it is not covered, yet i see a real "history" of this same complaint for both this car and it's "sister" - the intrepid.*ph
No summary listed for above vehicle.
Power window motor has failed/been replaced 5 times, it is now out again and manufacture/dealer refuses to cover under warranty because of vehicle milage.i have found from other owners of this vehicle that this is a common failure in this vehicle.i believe that the manufacture should fix and recall defective components.
Right side windows went out.now left sides are going out.chrysler corp will not replace left windows. Potential safety issue as i cannot exit vehicle if door is jammed.
Windshield design allows for distorted view causing driver to become dizzy.
Dashboard is in two different colors. Where it makes the division of colors , it makes glare on windshield, causing poor visibility.
Traveling on freeway at 60 mph and rear windshield was sucked out and flew to side of freeway.no prior problems with rear windshield, i.e. Cracks, leaks, etc.entire rear window and casing flew off moving vehicle on freeway.contacted dealer who claims to have contracted manufacturer.response was that the car was no longer under warranty and had too many miles on it.safety issue of other motorist/vehicles as well as any passengers in backseat.response from dealer/manufacturer not suitable.
Razzari dodge (tim razzri, 20.-383-3673) has contacted the chrysler's regional office ot request a new windshield.chrysler acknowledges being aware of the problem and admits that all new chrysler windshields have the defect.they state that there will be no windshield replacements.
Windshield refection from the dashboard which causes poor disability. Dealer notified and nothing is being done at this time.
The wheels are crumbling apart.the metal on the wheels are dropping offin large flakes.manufacturer anddealer are aware of the problem.
Dt:caller said the alloy wheels oxidized and lost air in the tires. All 4 wheels were doing it. This has been going on for 3 years.consumerwasputting air in tires, cleaned them, and by night all the tires were flat. Dealer said there was nothing they could do.manufacturer has not been contacted yet.
I have had multiple wheel problems with the wheels on my 1999 chrysler 300m.the wheels have corroded and as a result the tires continually go flat.the valve stems have been replaced numerous times only to leak around them again.yesterday i took my car to the tire service center because it was leaking again.this time to my surprise there was a hairline crack amid the corrosion necessitating replacement of the wheel.i was told that the chrome wheels corrode and all shouldto be replaced.furthermore replacement would not solve the problem since the replacements would also corrode. The problem is one of poor design and the wrong choice of materials.i have the replaced wheel. Currently i have to air my tires at least once a week.this has led to lower tire mileage and premature tire failure.
Dt:the contact owns a 1999 300m chrysler. Ever since he bought the car he had problems with flat tires. Had about fifteen flat tires, not punctured because the wheels will not hold air. He stated this wasa well known problem with chrysler chrome wheels because of a problem around the rim that caused corrosion andthe tire losing air. He stated this was based on what don smith told him. He states that don smith tried to get him new tiresa nd tried to help him solve this problem, but was unsuccessful .he complained to the dealer whenthisfirsthappened, and the dealerkept putting him off. The service man at the dealership told him it was a well known problem. The tire serviceman told him he would have this problem for as long as he owned the car.in january 05 he talked to the manufacturer, and they told him it should not happen after putting new tires on the car. He put new tires onand it still happened. The new tires havd 4,000 miles on them.he was still having flat tires. Also talked to the manufacturer last on 10-03-05 and they told him they could not cover it.his last flat tire was on10-7-05.updated 11/16/2005 -
All four wheel centers(chrome wheel option) have separated form their clips and fallen off within a period of about 4 months. Chysler replaced them under warranty; however the parts appear to be of defective design. I have word that several other owners of similar vehicles have recently had the same problem. While the separation of these wheel centers may not cause harm to th driver and occupants, they may cause harm to property or persons outside the vehicle. If the centers fall off at high speed, they will become unguided 3" metal projectiles traveling at the same speed as the car.i have contacted chysler, but they intend do do nothing other than replaced the failed components with identical ones during the warranty period.
The vehicle's pinch bolt broke while driving. As a result the passenger side wheel separated from the vehicle. The consumer statedthat two weeks prior to that incident the driver side bolt became loose.
On two occasions, the lug studs on the right front wheel have sheared, leaving only two (2) lug nuts holding the drive wheel on the vehicle.this occurred in april of 2007 and again in april of 2008.both times, the wheels had been rotated prior to a long trip on the vehicle. The vehicle was driven from west virginia to florida, and on the return trip after approximately 1300 miles, the same wheel (drive wheel) lugs again failed. If this had not been noticed while operating the vehicle at highway speeds, the potential for disaster could have been very real.
The contact's spouse owns a 1999 chrysler 300m.while his spouse was driving approximately 25 mph, the front passenger side of the vehicle fell on the ground.the contact inspected the vehicle and found 5 lug nut bolts sheared on the wheel hub.the vehicle was towed to a dealer; yet it has not been diagnosed. There were no injuries.the current and failure mileages were 125000. Updated 12/04/07
Front driver's sid e and passenger's side f along witht passenger side rear tire have been leaking air due to design of rims. Contacted dealer. Please provide further information.
Dt:there was a problem with the tires not holding air because of the rims.the issue occurred on all four tires.the problem has been occurring sincethe consumerpurchased the vehicle inaugust 1999.there have been no accidents.
The wheels of our 1999 chrysler 300m have been leaking for over two years.the problem seems to be the chrome plating over the aluminum.it is scaling and corroding along the edge of the rim, so an air seal is almost impossible.we have had occasion when employees have taken the car and found it to swerve to the left or right - only to find that the air pressure has been depleted to 10-15 psi.
I have been having problems with my wheels for at least4 or 5 years and have been trying to get chrysler to replace them. I get flat tires often which is a pain.i am 63 now and do not have help with this.i bought a compressor to assist me in an emergency.i have bee out in snow storms with flat tires.i was told by marketplace chrysler, rochester, ny that i could buy some wheels to replace the ones i have.the main company daimler chrysler was contacted by email and telephone and they would not replace them. Both daimler and marketplace have been aware of the problem, but it is too costly for them to correct. I have gone to dunn tires. Rochester, ny.they said that this is a problem in the north.dunn put nitrogen in the tires which has helped a little, but i still get flat tires.i feel when you pay as much as i have for a car, you do not want to buy new wheels.my coworker told me about your site when i was talking about the problems i was having with chrysler.i noticed that they made sure that the300 does not have the same wheel problem.interesting.
I had a 1999 chrysler 300 which developed wheel erosion at 3 years old and 97000 miles driven. A vibration developed that could not be fixed because the wheels could no longer be balanced. All 4 wheels had to be replaced at my expense as chrysler refused to consider any warranty.wheels are not a consumable.
Consumer states that right rim cracked down the middle of rim. Dealer notified.
The rim on the front driver sidevehicle was causing the tire to go flat, which is affected the driver's ability to control vehicle when on the road. Owner contacted manufacturer and they were aware of the problem.
The consumer states she has to replace all four tires every six months. The dealer states the rims are corroded which causes a leakage. *ph in warm weather the rims were fine but when the cold had come the tire pressure was checked everyday. *sc
The manufactured rims on our 1999 chrysler 300m no longer hold air (rim #lg40rav or lc40rav).all four rims have a slow leak, even after new tires were installed.the local dealer and a few local tire shops have inspected the rims and all concluded the metal rims are defective, they are deteriorating on the inside; all seem to suspect it is likely the rims were made with poor quality metal.chrysler customer service (800-992-1997, millie, emp#4mc, & her supervisor, robin, emp#5rs) indicates they have no way of knowing why the rims no longer work (suggested a driver may have hit a curb) and chrysler will not replace the rims or look further into the situation, because the warranty is no longer valid.they indicated that they do not and will not replace these rims unless forced by a recall.the local dealership indicates the replacement cost for the rims is $2,828, the car's value is only worth a little more than twice that amount.
Mag rims eroded from the inside, causing the tire not to sealor hold air.consumer did not take the rims back to the dealer.
Dt: the contact owns a 1999 chrysler 300 m.the contact stated that tires werelosing air pressure, and has to put air into the tires about two or three times per week.the contact stated that this problem has been occurring since 2001.the contact replaced the tires five times since he purchased the vehicle.the tires were replaced approximately every 30,000 miles.the contact had the vehicle inspected by a dealership, and they stated t there was a problem with the rims of this type of vehicle.the dealership stated the contactneededto replace the rims. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall on this vehicle.
Initially in may 2002, i had to replace a rim on my 1999 chrysler 300m because it had cracked due to corrosion (this is what i was told by the technician who discovered it). Now, in 2003, three of the four tires are leaking air to the point where they need to be refilled every week or two. When contacting the service center where i had the work done, they advised me that the 300m & town & country mini-vans seem to be experiencing the same type of problems as i'm describing.
Dt: contact statedwheel rim peeled and caused the air to come out of tires.two out of four tires were flat in the morning. They rotated them, and eventually all four tires became flat. Shetalked to the chrysler dealership, and they told her that the beads in the tire rusted and popped loose. This caused the tires to lose air. The manufacturer said there was nothing they could do about it.noticed this problemone year ago.
