The service air bag message intermittently turns on and off for no reason.car has not been in an accident.
When a passenger gets out of the front passenger seat a warning will flash saying to service the airbag.problem will persists until the car is shut off and won't show up again until a passenger sits in the front passenger seat again. Seems to be a problem with the passenger occupancy sensor.the problem has persisted since beginning of ownership approx. 1 month ago, and continues until the date of this report.
Car was purchased used on 9/12/18 with 50k miles and soon after purchase the service airbag warning pops up intermittently everyday during short or long drives. Common complaint is passenger airbag sensor but i have not taken it to be diagnosed since common repair costs is over 800 dollars.
"service airbag" warning on 2015 volt, which apparently is a well-known issue for which general motors refuses to take any responsibility. Airbags should not be a concern on car--ever.they want over $800 for the repair when it is clearly a manufacturing defect.
The contact owns a 2015 chevrolet volt. The contact stated that the air bags warning light activated intermittently while accelerating or during hard braking conditions. The vehicle was taken to bergstrom chevrolet of middleton (3605 tribeca dr # 101, middleton, wi 53562, (800) 353-1150) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the seat belt pretensioner needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired twice. The vehicle was taken back to bergstrom chevrolet of middleton, where it was diagnosed with needing the wiring harness to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
While driving on the highway the instrument cluster went blank and turned off. This houses information like warnings, speed, fuel level, battery level, traction, navigation, odometer, light signals and other information. This is a huge safety issue while traveling down the road and losing your ability to look at the speed or if your blinkers or lights are on.
I leased a 2015 chevy volt, i used the supplied charging station to charge the vehicle. This device overheated earlier in the day, i decided to unplug it and try another outlet. I checked on it 20 minutes later and discovered it was still warm. I thought this was normal, considering it was charging a car. I plugged it in later in the evening. This charger supplied by chevy then caught fire after being plugged in for about 2-3 hours, and that fire spread to our garage. This fire started from the charger itself and caused damage to our belongings and could have destroyed our entire home.
The contact owns a 2015 chevrolet volt. The contact was unable to roll the front driver and passenger windows up or down. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The vin was not available.
On 8/30/19, i started the vehicle to find the center console in the vehicle is completely blank and the computer controlling the screen is failing to boot. As a result, the operator cannot control the amperage at which the vehicle charges resulting in a reduced charge/range. Additionally, the voice command, stereo, climate control and reverse camera are inoperative. Further, all vehicle controls associated with when to charge (charge delay), security features such as audible horn when locking, which doors to unlock when unlocking vehicle, navigation and fuel efficiency information are inaccessible.researching similar issues, has resulted in identifying numerous complaints and issues with this center console.the vehicle has a 5 year powertrain warranty; however, chevrolet does not associate this known issue with the powertrain, instead associating the component part with the infotainment system which is covered under a lesser 3year/36k mile warranty.
My '15 volt (99k miles) center information display stopped working 3 days ago. In the first 2 days, occasionally it was on. Once on it stayed on, then next restart might not work again. I checked fuse box on the left side of the drive panel. F4 (10a) is supposed for center information display, and continuity was good. I did try pulling it out and putting back in a few times hoping if it was contact issues with the lead i might see difference, but display was still not on. Becausethe display was not on, the ac does not work, neither do the backup camera, sensors and navigation systems. The vehicle is unsafe to drive.when i googled the same problem, there are many volt owners eporting the same problem with the center information display not working for both gen 1 and gen 2 chevy volt. It was a problem that chevy has not fixed in a long time. Volt owners should get together to file a class action about this.
While driving my volt on the freeway, both the navigation display and the instrument display went blank. I had no visibility of my speed, fuel status, engine status. I attempted to re display the nav system, but i had to drive the rest of my trip with no display. Played with the lights, on then off no change. I have had this happen on 3 different occasions. All three times, the display was returned on the next day.
I had my 2015 volt (at ~95000 miles) serviced at american chevrolet(modesto, ca) on june 19th for regular maintenance.i had 2 miles ev charge left leaving dealership parking. 2 min out of dealership, just before stopping at a red traffic light, i saw an error: "propulsion power is reduced" on display. Then i realized the car had no power at all. Turned off engine, and turned it back on, the screen says "initializing....." and it lasted more than 20 seconds, still no power.all cars were moving again, and i was stuck on the second to the right lane with no power! i power cycled again, still no power. Emergency lights didn't light up during initialization. This meant cars behind me wouldn't see my lights.i have a camera facing the rear, and it should have caught the horrific experience. Now came the scary part, i saw a big suv driving at probably 60mph came right behind me!!luckily the suv was able to brake really hard and swerved to my right lane before rear ending me.i got out the vehicle, and started signaling to cars behind me, and all the cars now could see me and changed lanes.i called dealer, and two advisors arrived in just a few mins.they could not figure out why and gave me a ride back to dealership and told me the car would be towed back and diagnosed. My volt has been still at the dealership being test since june 19th.today, june 24th, my chevy advisor, juan moreno called said they've done all tests, and everything has been fine, and they would do some more testing, after which i should be able to pick it up today.on june 19th, i received a letter from gm about a software update, hpcm2. I requested dealer perform the update. I don't know if the software defect caused my volt losing power. But now i really had concern over the safety of the volt as it was a family car to haul family.
Driving on 55 mph straight two lane road when car ahead slowed.to recover energy to the battery, dropped from "d" to "l" in gear selection rather than using brakes (was plenty of distance, but not enough to coast).car in front turned off to right.i advanced selector to drive, but overshot into neutral.realized my error when pressing accelerator yielded no speed increase.put selector into "d", verified visually and pressed accelerator without result. Verified again visually that selector in d.advanced deliberately into n, then back to d, then reapplied accelerator with functional result this time.i am a pe with siemens vdo, retired.since vehicle is single speed "transmission", i assume computer glitch
I returned home from vacation.my car had been sitting in the garage.when i started it up and put in reverse the backup camera was black, the back up lights failed to come on.i checked online and several other people had experienced the same thing that was caused by a short in the driver's side visor that is on the same fuse as the back up camera and lights.i took if to the dealer, when they replaced the fuse, it blew immediately.they ran diagnostics then replaced the visor.the diagnostics cost over $350, the new visor $80.the car had 38000 miles on it.this is a known defect in this vehicle and because of the design of the car, the back up camera is critical to driving safely.this should be a recall item.
The contact owns a 2015 chevrolet volt. The contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated at various times. The vehicle was taken to ourisman chevrolet of bowie (16610 governor bridge rd, bowie, md 20716 (301) 262-7600) where it was diagnosed with a wiring harness malfunction and the wiring harness connectors had shorted out due to missing protection. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred while leaving the dealer. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000.

The contact owns a 2015 chevrolet volt. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v145000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the part needed to do the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.
Total loss of power climbing a hill at freeway speed. The behavior was like the car had shifted itself into neutral. This then manifested itself three other times over the next 20 miles of driving.

2/24/17 while driving on a public business 2 lane road with 30 miles battery life and 150 miles gas available, the car driving at approximately 25 miles per hour on a very slight declining slope when it completely stopped in the middle of the "fast" lane of traffic on a four lane road - two lanes in each direction.the warning "propulsion power reduced" and check engine light were both on. I was only slightly able to control the car by forcefully turning right into a driveway across another traffic lane while rolling slightly downhill. I was only able to make it into the driveway before i started rolling backwards and i forcefully had to keep my foot on the brake so the car would not roll.when i turned off the engine, the hazards went off so i had to turn the engine back on so that the hazard lights would work.the tow truck driver was able to load it onto the stake bed and told me that it was working fine. No errors on display.it sat off for about 5 minutes and he drove it onto the stake bed. The sierra chevrolet in monrovia ca had the car for a week, but said that the codes did not show up when they tested it. And they even drove the car around town for 70 miles. I explained to them that this wasn't the first time that the code showed up but the other two times, it showed up the car lost power, while driving up a hill at about 35mph, but immediately restarted itself....and the code disappeared.i informed the dealer that a full charge from my house used to be more than 40 mile range, now it is down to 30 - 35 miles...never 40. I got the car back with no work done. On the freeway it had trouble going more than 55 mph so opted for slow lane rather than the usual car pool lane and immediately got off the freeway. This was a very straightfreeway, no inclines. Problem still exists, feel manufacturer needs to be notified as it just stopped!

Friday october 30 at 1 pm pacific coast time, my volt lost all power on the middle of the san mateo bridge.there was no shoulder and the car went from 70 miles an hour to a dead stop in about 100 ft. I had a "propulsion system failure" message on the display screen. I was nearly rear-ended by a semi, who in turn nearly turned over trying to swerve out of my lane.the semi nearly pushed another car into san francisco bay.this is a dangerous vehicle and the government should not allow it to be sold.

I purchased a new 2015 volt on july 5, with a charged ev battery. I drove it 41 miles in electric mode, and then the car started using gasoline. Once it did, i experienced an issue withvery limited acceleration.the car did not accelerate normally from a standstill. The display went slowly from 0 to 1 mph, then 1mph to 2mph, etc, with about 1 second interval in between. It took about 15 seconds to get to 15mph. It did so twice at two consecutive red lights, until i found a parking lot, parked the car and turned it off . Then i turned it back on and drove it again. It accelerated ok right off the parking lot the first time, but about a half mile later, the acceleration problem was back at the next traffic light for a third time. I stopped driving got the car towed back to the dealer. The 3 instances of acceleration issue all happened within the first 2.5 miles the car was driven on gasoline. There was no warning on the screen; or any diagnostic code recorded in the vehicle according to onstar. On july 6, my dealer could not reproduce the problem when they drove the car from cold. They wanted me to come in and demonstrate it. I declined, as i no longer felt safe driving the car. I got in touch with a volt advisor and the gm executive office as this was a safety issue. On july 8, gm recommended replacing the transmission control module. The part was ordered and installed. On july 13, my dealer's service manager took the car for an extended 100 mile test drive on gasoline, and actually experienced the issue multiple times. He mentioned that switching the car to neutral and then back to drive was a successful workaround for the acceleration problem. Based on this, gm recommended replacing the drive unit.i did not think such a major repair should be necessary on a new car and was able to cancel the sales contract and purchase another volt without this issue.

I was driving on the 880in fremont and my car stalled. Than i was driving to work from my home in san jose on alum rock ave and car stalled before the intersection. I called the gmc helpline and towed the car to capitol chevrolet. This happened in the first week of april. My car was the chevrolet dealer for seven days.the invoice says that coolant was low. Few days ago my car stalled again in mountain view near rotton robbie gas station and checked the coolant and was no coolant. I bought the coolant and refilled( june) it. I am really worried that it might cause a major injury if the engine catches fire or stalls again on the freeway? please help. Dealers number where my car was fixed 408-266-4000.

We bought a used certified california lemon from a chevy dealer in wisconsin 2 years ago.they claimed the car came from california and result of its 3 strike lemon law.they claimed the brake system had been totally replaced.as of today we have had total brake failure twice, first time they again replaced the complete brake system.right not the car is at the dealer, waiting to here back.the dealer claims this is the second volt this week with the same issue.to our knowledge this has now happened 5 times with our car, twice with us and three times prior in california.
On may 13th, approx. 11:10am, clear and sunny 75f redondo beach, ca. I entered the volt to back out down a downward sloping driveway. I powered my volt up with foot on brake proceeded to shift the volt in 'r'. As soon as i released pressure on the brake pedal i started to move down the driveway and picking up speed. I applied pressure to the brake pedal, which felt mushy. And my volt continued picking up speed and would not stop. I continued to apply the brakes, which felt very mushy, and the volt continued and crossed the street and impacted the residence directly across to finally stop my volt. The brakes felt extremely mushy extending aboutto the floor but not completely to the floor. When this occurred, i was in battery mode but the engine was engaged and running at high rpm and heard by me and a passerby while the volt was moving.i called aaa to pull me out. I was stuck on the tree and front steps.i called in the incident to my insurance company so i could start the claim and have a claim #. Police arrived 40 minutes later to take a report and give me a field sobriety test. That was a little embarrassing but glad it was done. Now it's documented that i was totally sober.i've read 1-or 2 threads regarding non-operating mushy brakes but nothing about a volt in r coming down a slope and not being able to stop. I called on-star to see if they have a log of codes generated from my volt within the last 24 hrs and was told no.i am very grateful that i did not hit another person, animal or vehicle while not being in control of a fast moving volt crossing sidewalks and a residential street. I have contacted gm allegations and have a claim #. I am supposedly to receive a call by monday the 19 to discuss next steps. Another thing the 2015 does not have a emergency brake but a parking brake which will not slow the vehicle down in an emergency situation.
This vehicle has 84,500 miles on it as of june 2020. I am the original owner. During a state mandated safety inspection in june 2020, both oem outboard rear brake shoes were found to have separated into 2 pieces and failed inspection. The semi-metallic brake pad had separated from its metal backing plate. I believe the two parts of the brake pad assembly are held together with an adhesive, and the adhesive failed on both pads in similar fashion. An internet search revealed that this brake pad separation has occurred to a number of chevy volt vehicles. Regenerative electric braking means that the hydraulic brakes (and thus the brake pads) are rarely used on this vehicle. The brakes had never been serviced on this vehicle, so the pads were oem. I have retained the brake pads for review or analysis.
I have had a serious clunk in the front end since purchasing june 1, 2015. This happens when hitting bumps and road irregularities and only on the left side. It took until september 16th to get it into the shop and it's been there 49 days now. Chevrolet is saying this is 'normal noise' and my contention is it's a problem or a defect or worse - a safety issue. I find it funny (not really) that they've been telling me all along that the cruze uses same components. Now the cruze for 14 and 15, and the 14 volt is recalled. For a tie rod problem and replacement of steering gear. Not a nut or bolt has been touched by the people looking at my car, why are they so concerned unless there is something they don't know, that they aren't telling me. 49 days without my car now, 'everything is fine' is what i keep being told, so who is concerned with the safety of my family? certainly not chevrolet. There's a problem, and someone, chevrolet, needs to make it right!!
When it rains or the car gets wet, there will be water that runs down from the upper right corner of the passenger side into the floorboard causing the carpet to get soaking wet as well as the electrical components that run underneath the carpet.it appears the sealant under the hood and under the cowl is faulty causing water to leak into the cab.this occurs when the car is stationary or in motion.this is a factory defect and needs to be corrected, not to mention that the electrical components getting wet could potential cause a fire or hazardous situation. Also i took it by a chevy dealership but they couldn't find anything in the allotted diagnostic time without have to charge me more to remove seats and carpet. I declined.

If the exterior thermostat detects the temperature is at or below 37 degrees fahrenheit, the a/c compressor will turn off and all of the windows (windshield included) will fog up. Resulting in extremely reduced visibility. If the exterior thermostat detects the temperature of 38 degrees fahrenheit or higher, the a/c compressor will enable and the windows would immediately clear.
