The airbag warning light comes on fairly constantly. The dealership says the passenger seat sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced. It is an expensive repair at over $1,000.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet volt. The contact statedthe air bag warning light illuminated intermitantly for several months. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer stevens creek chevrolet (3640 stevens creek blvd, san jose, ca 95117, (408) 490-0013) where it was diagnosed with needing the passenger's side occupant detection module to be replaced. Consumer was quoted $1300. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.*dt
We have a 2014 chevy volt with approximately 88,000 miles. It is out of manufacturers warranty and recently our service airbag light came on. We took to dealer and they are asking us for roughly $850.00 to replace a passenger seat sensor. They tell us that our airbags will not work in an accident if we do not replace this sensor. I did a search on-line and this seems to be a common problem with the chevy volt. We purchased this car new and it's still in very good shape besides having this issue. Just wondering if any pressure can be placed on gm to step up here and fix what seems to be a flaw in their manufacturing process or product? after reading how many others have had the same issue and knowing that the airbags will not deploy if involved in a serious accident, it seems there's most certainly a safety issue here. Can anything be done about this?
Service airbag light came on while sitting in garage. No water spilled on seat. No pot holes. No collisions.
Car tells me that the airbag needs to be serviced every time the car turns on and continues to alert me as i drive, even after i acknowledge the error. Apparently the front passenger detector for turning on the airbag must be replaced. The previous owner says he's driven with this problem for over a year. Over $600 to replace. From reading forums online, i see that this is not an uncommon problem. The part should be recalled.
Around 7/1/2019, an airbag service light started flashing intermittently. I took the car to the dealer (harbor chevrolet in long beach) who said that they could not reproduce the problem but said that if i wanted they could replace it for ~$1000. I did not get the work done as i though i could find a better price. The light is now on continuously which means that the passenger side air bag will not deploy. This occurs both when the car is stationary and when it is moving on both city streets and highway. There are currently 52k miles on the car.
The "service air bag" message intermittently appears on the dashboard while the car is in motion.the cost to replace the sensor per chevrolet dealer is very expensive, over $800.i understand the same issue is reported in prior years model.the problem seems to apply to the 2014 model as well.
Air bag sensor and computer system malfunction the driver side sensor at times malfunction and so the software disable the air bag system as a whole. The service air bag message comes on for few minutes and then disappears assuming everything is ok. Took it to the dealer and they informed me that i need to change whole airbag sensor kit and would cost me more than 1300 dollars. This should be a recall as this relates to safety
Volt has 90,000 miles on it & i have air bag sensor error message. Never been in an accident & never spilled anything on the seats. This is a major issue with the volt. Chevy will not repair the issue & want $880. Enough people have had the same issue
My volt is giving me a "service airbag soon" warning on startup. Car is kept in a garage. The dealership said it was because i cleaned my seat and got it too wet, but i used standard seat cleaner sparingly. Also, the drivers seat appears to receive the error and this seat has never seen any "moisture".secondly, with no accidents or collisions, one of the front sonar sensors failed, with the dealership claiming it was due to bug buildup. Another $600 fix that i didn't do because it's nothing of my doing and that's an outrageous amount of money.
Several months ago my "service airbag" light started randomly coming on. I thought at the time that it was due to a failing 12v battery. So i replaced the battery and initially, the warning went away. Then after about 3 weeks it started randomly coming on again. Then after another week or so, it would come on every time you drove the car, but i could just acknowledge the warning and it would stop. Now, just 2 days ago, that no longer works. It will come on every time you start the car and also randomly as you are driving down the road. In my 1.5 hour commute to work, it probably came on 40-60 times. Sometimes not for 5 or 10 miles, sometimes just as soon as you pushed the button, it would come on again. This is a known issue for volts and other gm vehicles and i've heard the problem is in the airbag sensor in the passenger seat. If that is the case, it is definitely because of a bad part and not wear and tear because i use my car to commute 100+ miles and i hardly ever have anyone sitting in the passenger seat. I have been told this repair will cost anywhere from $800-1500 to fix. There needs to be a recall for this serious issue because there is no way a safety system should just fail like that, rendering the car dangerous for any passengers. I also shouldn't have to pay $1000 to replace a poorly designed part on my car that causes a major safety issue.please investigate this further and implement a recall to get this repaired before someone is killed.
My car has an intermittent "service airbag" warning. It has been throwing a fault every so often for about a year. According to the dealership, the passenger seat presence sensor wiring is faulty.
Takata recall: i received notification that my car is involved in the airbag recall andto date have heard nothing from the dealership or manufacture.
Airbag sensor light is on.garage has already replaced left front and right rear impact sensors.problem still exists.garage has already spent 2 days trying to figure out problem.no luck.i just discovered, via a google search, that this is a common problem with my volt.there should be a recall!
Service airbag is turning on.
My passenger occupancy sensor is malfunctioning resulted in an airbag warning light appearing. I understand this is a common problem with this model of chevy volt. The replacement part is prohibitively expensive ($800+).is there a recall in the works?thank you. Matt b.
The airbag indicator for the passenger seat will ding intermittently no matter what is placed in the passengerseat. This leaves in question whether or not the air bag is engaged or disengaged properly.
All of a sudden, my 2014 chevy volt with 70k miles start having airbag sensor errors on and off. I started to research and found a lot of other owners with chevy voltsgeneration 1 and 2 have similar issues. Very surprised that gm has not issued a recall for this and expect us to pay for the repair on their faulty system.
Not long after purchasing my 2014 chevrolet volt, i got a warning light telling me to check my airbags. I immediately took my car to my local chevrolet to be looked at. I was told ā€oh this happens a lot with the earlier voltsā€¯ and was quoted $1100+ to fix the issue. I took it to another shop and was quoted a similar amount, around $1000+ with parts and labor. The safety of myself and any passenger of mine is at risk indefinitely because of this issue. I cannot have any passengers sit in the front passenger seat because the airbag will toggle on/off even when there is an adult sitting in the sit and not moving around. The problem was not reproduced, but was confirmed by a mechanic at chevrolet in tallahassee. The only thing that mechanics tell me is that ā€this is a common issueā€¯ and upon looking into this issue online, there are many people having the same issue. Iā€™ve done nothing that would have damaged this airbag sensor so i do not understand why it is malfunctioning, and why iā€™m supposed to pay over $1000 for an issue that should not exist in the first place?if the passenger airbag is having issues, what if my drivers seat airbag has an issue that iā€™m unaware of? i can honestly say that i am not 100% confident that my airbag will deploy if i get into an accident. When driving my car i am constantly afraid for myself and for my passengers. I cannot afford to pay $1000 for an issue that doesnā€™t make sense. My mechanic could not explain why this happens, just that it is common with my vehicle
Ca has only been driven 20k miles and always garaged. Recenlty, about a week ago, the "service airbag" light came on.the ealership has told me it's a known issue but it's not covered by any recalls or warranties!
I'm receiving intermittent warnings to service the airbags. This comes as a surprise since this is fairly solid state and not something that gets depleted such as oil, brakes, or tires. I have no idea who the manufacturers are of the airbags but would like to know if they are takata. Chevrolet should not be dodging responsibility with safety equipment.
Problem started by itself. No outside stimuli.
The warning "service airbag" appears randomly on the display. This may concern the passenger airbag sensor.appears with or without any passenger on the seat.
Service airbag light warning. Repair shop says the passenger side seat 'passenger presence module' needs to be replaced. What is the safety risk of not paying the $500?
A used chevy volt.it came with a level 1 charger. Basic 110 v takes 8 hours to charge 18kvh battery. This charger was repaired from the looks of it.i used it for a few times and it burnt. Luckily it was not near any flame able material, or it may have caused fire.
Ignition shut off on massachusetts turnpike when trying to change from normal (electric) to hold (gas) mode. Mode button is too close to ignition powerbutton. I had to stop in rush hour traffic to put car in drive and restart, could have been hit. I called onstar emergency service in the moment, but they were not aware of a way to restart the car while it was rolling. Discovered later that there is a 3-step process to restart the car while it's still moving, but it is complicated and difficult to remember while panicking about the danger of being hit.there is no automatic way to restart in case of accidental shut off. This should be fixed or someone will get hurt or killed. This has happened to me several times on the highway and i have been very lucky not to have been hit while figuring out how to restart the vehicle. I commute daily into boston and have to keep eyes on the road at all times; with the mode button next to the power button, there is constant danger of shutting the car down at precisely the moment when i expect and need to be accelerating.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet volt. While driving in the electric mode, the vehicle's battery voltage suddenly failed and the propulsion system warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle went into its backup mode, which was the use of the fuel generator, and lost power. The contact took the vehicle to dyer chevrolet fort pierce (located at 4200 s us hwy 1, fort pierce, fl) where the hpcm2 system was reprogrammed, which related to the hybrid propulsion system. The failure occurred. The contact stated that the failure was similar to nhtsa campaign number: 18v397000 (hybrid propulsion system). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000. *cw the consumer stated the vehicle has been sold.
The electric heating system failed on my volt which disabled the windshield defroster, creating a dangerous visibility situation.the volt has two heating systems, the traditional waste heat from the engine's cooling system and an all-electric resistor pack.when the car runs in all-electric mode, the engine does not engage and the traditional heating system is ineffective.there is a mode that will operate the engine while the battery still has a charge, but the car still runs primarily on battery power and only runs the engine to maintain a certain charge level.there is no backup mode to force the engine to run if the electric heater fails.i park outdoors overnight in a parking lot.this morning, despite engaging the vehicle mode that operates the engine to sustain the battery charge level, the engine did not operate often enough to generate enough heat to defrost/defog the windshield until travelling nearly 2 miles.you can't sit and wait for the engine to heat up because the engine stops when the vehicle is stationary.
I received the chevy volt 2/20/14 at around 10:45 am. My partner and i had a very important meeting at 12:30 p.m. In jersey city, nj so we left directly from the dealership in the brand new volt, 7 miles on the odometer.at approximately 12:00 p.m. The car alarmed with two messages: 1. Engine not available and 2. Propulsion power reduced. The alarms/engine failure came at the most inopportune time---while on the new jersey turnpike in a construction zone and no available shoulder.with semi-trucks bearing down on us, we luckily made it to a construction pull off area and called on star.on star informed us the turnpike is a restricted zone so they could not send anyone, they were helpful and got in touch with the turnpike authority which sent a tow truck.while i was on the phone with on star my partner called the dealership where we got the car.they were helpful and contacted the dealership where the car would be towed?malouf chevrolet. After waiting over 30 min for a tow truck to arrive, all the while fearing i was going to be mowed down by a semi-truck on the shoulder, the brand new volt, my partner and i were off the turnpike. Upon arrival to malouf we were greeted by a member of their service team, he asked me how many miles were on the car.i said?66?, he asked ?6600?, i responded ?no! 66, the car only ran for a little over an hour after delivery!?we now have a loaner from malouf and have not heard anything about what caused this catastrophic failure of the brand new chevrolet volt.

Chevrolet volt 2014 head unit reboots while vehicle in motion (city streets and freeways). No user auxiliary device plugged in. Fh daily san leandro could not identify problem. Rebooting occured approximately 1 month ago after manufacturer recall repair. Car was last serviced 11/22/16 for stated problem. Head unit rebooted 12/1/16 while in motion on city street. Head unit provides vital information including vehicle off/on status and audible tones.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet volt. The contact stated while the brake pedal was depressed, he inadvertently touched the ignition switch.also, the contact stated that the operating buttons were too close together which may cause a crash.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 700. Updated 9/9/14the consumer stated the drive mode button was near the ignition power button. When he was in the middle lane driving, he reached over to change the drive mode, he accidentally pushed the power button. The vehicle did not shut off, because his foot was not on the brake. Now, if he his foot was on the brake, and the power button would have been hit, instead of drive mode, the vehicle would shut off and could not be re-started by pushing the button again. The vehicle would have to be shifted into neutral and push the power again to re-start it. Updated 10/21/14
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet volt. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle during an electrical storm the power would shut off causing the vehicle to become inoperable. On one occasion the power shut off causing the vehicle to roll into the rear of a second vehicle causing damage to the bumper.no injuries were reported and no police report was taken. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure and no repairs were performed. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 46,000.
When using the turn signal with the radio barely on i cannot hear the turn signal indicator at all. The turn signal sound is extremely low. Today i left it on accident and a vehicle pulled out in front of me assuming i was turning, however i was not. This could have caused a fatal accident if he did pull out, the vehicle stopped just inches before being in the road. If the blinker indicator is through the vehicle audio system, it needs to be increased. I have left my blinker on multiple times >10.
Chevy volt was driven into the garage with 10 miles left on the battery, the car was plugged into the electric charger for over night charge. In the morning in the attempt to turn on the car a message appeared stating. "not able to charge" "battery range 0 miles""charging override/interrupt occurred"my husband came and checked out the car we plugged into our 110 volt charge to make sure that it wasn't our charging system.waited several hours still no charge. On star was called theycould not collect any data because the car was totally shut down.some time later possibly the next day (sunday) there appeared a message."charging override/ interruptiona charging override or interruption has occurred due to one or more of the following events:* override of charging settings by vehicle owner via onstar. (this did not happen)* unintended interruption of ac power kath the vehicle's charge port. (also did not happen)*interruption of charging by the utility company via onstar as authorized by vehicle owner. (also did not happen) see owner's manual for further detail."monday morning car was towed to dealership. Dealership attempted to charge and run tests to find out what had happened. After five days they decided toorder a part, not sure what the parts actual name was, something to do with an electrical starting module.dealership says the problem is solved, picking up on the 6th day at dealership.hoping all is well.
Service airbag light warning. Repair shop says the passenger side seat 'passenger presence module' needs to be replaced. What is the safety risk of not paying the $500?
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet volt. Started car while parked in garage and the instrument panel became inoperable without warning. As a result, the contact was unable to determine the amount of fuel that was inside the vehicle and the speed. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and told me to go to a dealership which will result diagnostic fee. The failure mileage was 61,000.
The 120v charging cord that came with the volt has cracked and frayed, exposing electrical wires to the elements and creating a fire hazard. See photo of cord condition. The charger is a necessary element to using an electric-hybrid vehicle. We asked the chevy dealer from whom we bought the volt (see business card photo) to provide a replacement charger, and they refused to. This equipment is an unacceptable fire hazard, and its condition should not have resulted from normal wear and tear.
The screen that displays speed, fuel remaining, etc goes dark at random times while driving.it happens most often when i first turn on the car and lasts for several minutes.occasionally it happens when i have been driving for a while.
Saturday on 09/5/2015 around 12:00 noon while driving our 2014 chevy volt, while i was passenger, my wife who was driving the car suddenly noticed the car computer program has gone crazy and started throwing all kinds of errors starting with 1) program cluster error 2) ice may be possible 3) washer level low 4) some other kind sensor errors 5) battery level started showing zero ( it was full )6) fuel level was zero ( had over 1/2 tank fuel) 7) odometer indication had changed on its own to km from miles8) no proper vehicle speed indication.9 ) suspension need adjustment etcall these errors kept repeating over and over while driving causing a big panic to driver and passenger (me) besides resulting in distracted driving. Both driver and passenger seat heating kicked in on its own. For a short period we were not sure whether the vehicle is moving under our control or not.on the center panel also the information system was showing all kinds of errors like, battery was showing empty, the ambient temp was showing - 27calthough it was quote hot at that time and the miles had changed to l / kmetc. Looks like all the units changed in the car to metric on its own.all the symptoms indications were similar to the video some one has already posted here at the below you tube link. Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07zmnh5z1goscariest part was our vehicle started doing while it was being drivenit was like car losing its brain ( computer program getting corrupted ) while on road. This situation poses a big safety risk to people. Currently as of today 09/09/2015 vehicle is still at dealership and yet to be fixed and handed over back to us.i have already called general motors customer service and expressed the safety concerns, besides they expect me to pay in part to fix this. I can provide nhtsa my case number that gm representative gave me.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet volt. While driving 25 mph in battery mode, the battery emptied and the vehicle switched to gas mode. The vehicle emitted a loud noise and lost acceleration. The contact stated that the on star system activated and indicated a system failure. The contact was able to coast the vehicle onto the road shoulder. The vehicle was towed to bedard bros (391 south state road, chesire, ma 01225, (413) 743-0014) where it was diagnosed that the electronic control module (part number: 12670036) failed. The dealer replaced the electronic control module and reprogrammed the vehicle immobilizer. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 33,509.
Starting up the car in the morning, the display panel went dark.i turned off the vehicle and tried starting up the vehicle again with no change.the display panel is dark.i am not able to see gas information, battery information, speed, and turn signals.
A similar issue is currently listed under the 2013 volt here but i experienced it on a 2014 volt & it led to complete engine failure while driving, very different than just "reduced propulsion power".i was driving my volt on its extended range mode with the gas engine (days earlier, i had taken the car to a repair shop & gotten a green light on it) & i got an error message "service power steering--drive with caution".that error message then turned to "service parking assist" & then "service stabilitrak", but it was driving fine & i intended to take it to the dealership the next day.then before i could get home, the message changed to "propulsion power is reduced", so the car couldn't drive as fast as before. I still needed to drive home so i turned on my hazards & then that error message morphed into "engine not available, service soon". Now it's still driving okay but then all of a sudden it decelerates completely and stops moving in the median on the highway.i was lucky to be alive.i was never informed of any recall on any volt & i previously owned two other 2013 volts.
I was driving on the freeway at 65 miles per hour. As i began to brake because of traffic, 3 lights came on the vehicle. Stabilitrak failure, abs and brake assist failure. When the lights came on, there was a loss of breaking. I almost crashed. Had i been closer to the vehicles, i would have had an accident. Fortunately, i keep a distance from the vehicles in front of me at all times. I called general motors and they told me to take it to the dealer and they would look at the repairs and find out if it is something that is related to the vehicle's safety. When i took it to the dealer, i received an estimate fro m jackie, the technician at mark christopher auto center 2131 e convention center way, ontario, ca 91764. Stated that there is two separate issues with the vehicle. One issue was the stabilitrak and the second issue had to do with the abs. Each of the items were estimated differently even though they were related. I ended up coughing up $290 for just an inspection of both items (not repairing them). 160 was for the check engine, stabilitrak and brake assist falure. The second charge was to look at the abs at $130. I disputed the charges but they stated that they were valid. When i spoke to the technician ( jackie) she stated that the car was repaired and the problem stemmed debree going in to the i told them that i had a case # with gm. Jackie stated that gm would not honor the repair becauseit was the speed sensor. She stated that the sensor was cleaned and the vehicle does not have the problem anymore. It is difficult to understand that such a simple fix does not have a re-call. This is a safety sensitive issue that has implications for society as a whole. Imagine a person driving and they do not know the system is malfunctioning. This can be harmful to pedestrians walking in the streets. The system does not allow you to brake. Please help!!!!!!!

Car is a 2014 volt with 1900 miles. I bought it new recently as a dealer display model with 100ish miles on it.last night (10/22/15) on our trip to visit family and friends out of town, i was driving the car in hold mode (cruising at highway speed) and l. It had about 20 miles of charge left. Speed was approximately 65mph cruising. I suddenly get a dash indicator indicating that i am in reduced propulsion mode. The car's power is reduced, throttle input is decreased, and i am not able to accelerate as before. I move over the the slowest lane asap. The internal combustion engine was now off and i had switched to using the remaining charge. I then called onstar. They ran a diagnostic and came up with two codes (these are as detailed as my passenger could write down):1. P0700 transmission not preforming as expected. 2. P0777 power trans? system detected malfunction with transmission control system. May affect vehicle performance including shifting behavior.luckily we were able drive to the nearest dealer and have a family member pick us up. The dealer verified the codes, cleared them, but was unable to "reproduce" the problem. Therefore they made no change and returned the car to me. Multiple other owners have also had this problem and has not been systemically troubleshooted by chevy as the local dealer's had no idea how to service.
While driving in gas mode, while coming to a stop the engine feels like it is rattling loudly and vibrates the steering wheel.when accelerating, the engine feels like it is rattling the car, shaking the car, and the steering wheel is shaking.

My car stalled on the freeway ramp with engine warning reported on the dashboard.the issue was identified to be due to engine propulsion and transmission failure and they would have factory technician replace/rebuild all related components as a preventative maintenance/repair.later they said that they found that the replaced part had again failed during overnight test and they were repairing the car again.i am concerned that this is a safety issue with the car stalling in the freeway and the component seems to fail easily as demonstrated by the repair that failed again in the dealers shop floor.this issue with volt needs to be investigated before lives are lost due to improper design/component.
Starting up the car in the morning, the display panel went dark.i turned off the vehicle and tried starting up the vehicle again with no change.the display panel is dark.i am not able to see gas information, battery information, speed, and turn signals.
2014 chevrolet volt.consumer writes in regards to electric drive malfunction.the consumer received two error messages on the dashboard that read propulsion power is reduced and engine not available, service soon. The vehicle stalled withinminutes. The consumer tried to re-start the vehicle, but it stalled again within seconds.
The waterheater pump on the car is out at just 53l miles and chevy states that this is not their problem even though we cant get the part because it is back ordered due to so many individuals with the same problem. The reason this is a safety issue is that the car can not defrost the window for visibility. This is an issue and there are several volt owners that are having the same problem due to their fault waterpump system.
Loss of propulsion power. Car almost shut off was able to pull over. Was going up on a very small hill on the highway. Car was seen last year for the software update however loss of propulsion happened again.
While driving at 45 mph, the vehicle battery system turned off losing the ability to accelerate.the engine did not turn on when the battery drains to zero.the battery was fully charged at about 95% with about 40 miles of range remaining.the gas tank was 3/4 full.had to come to a complete stop in traffic, place the car into park, turn off the car completely then begin restarting it for all functionality to return.
Good morning,i need to file a complaint against gmc for my car not meeting pre-certication as advertised. After three months i had to have my tires replaced and the fuel system is not providing the gas as advertised. The fuel is only around 12 miles a gallon when the air conditioner

On june 4, 2018 i was driving with 4 miles left of electricity power, once i ran out of electricity it switched over to the gasoline tank which was half full. Once this switch occured i received the message on the dashboard that read "propulsion power reduced" and "engine not available, service soon". I was drving on a regular flat street (no steep hills) for about 15 minutes then went into freeway. Once in the freeway my vehicle began to slow down significantly giving me just enought time to pull over to the right shoulder lane. I was very lucky to have been able to pull all the way to the right which in part was due to the fact that i was already on the right lane, but if i had been on the left lane i can guarantee i would not have made it safely to the shoulder lane. Prior to this i have had absolutely no other issues with the vehicle. On march 26, 2018 i took my vehicle to the dealership were it was purchased for an oil change and for a complete check and all results were normal.
On 2/17/2020, i was driving on i-5 northbound at about 10 pm near burlington, wa. My speed was about 60 mph on a relatively flat highway. Weather was normal for the time. No rain, no wind. Shortly after my car switched from the electric-powered over to gas-powered, the car started to rev very high and quickly decelerated even though my foot was fully pressed on the accelerator pedal. "propulsion power reduced" message came on, followed by "engine not available, service soon" message came on. The cel also came on. I had never seen these messages before. Semi-trucks were bearing down on me from behind. It was a very dangerous situation. Luckily, i was able to coast to the right shoulder without any car damage or injury. Easily this could have been more serious damage and/or injury if there was more traffic nearby or i stalled in the traffic lanes. I was able to re-start car at about 10 minutes and slowly drove home at a very reduced speed.subsequently, my car seemed to drive fine. But every time the car goes from electric to gas, i get nervous that this incident will reoccur and cause an accident. Many times, the high rev will start and the "propulsion power reduced" message comes on and the car decelerates but thankfully the car has not completely lost power like the first incident.about 1 month later, i took the car to a chevrolet dealership for diagnostics. The cel went out prior. They could not find any faults and said everything was normal. Nothing was stored in memory. They could not reproduce the problem in the shop. The "propulsion power reduced" message has appeared again after servicing. I am fearful to drive this car.
While in full motion on the highway, the car suddenly decelerated to 5 mph despite pressing on the accelerator and then a minute or two later completed stalled out.two error messages: engine not available, service soon and propulsion power is reduced.an earlier incident, a few months ago, while accelerating up a slight incline, the car decelerated to a few miles per hour despite pressing on the accelerator.
The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet volt. While driving 65 mph, the propulsion power reduced warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle decelerated to 35 mph. The vehicle was pulled off the road and the battery died. The vehicle was towed to miami lakes auto mall (16600 nw 57th ave, miami lakes, fl 33014, (305) 455-3540) where it was diagnosed that the software to the propulsion system need to be updated. The software update was performed, but the failure recurred three times. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 53,016.
Gm sent me a letter in june, 2019 notifying me that my 2014 chevy volt was in need of a software update ā€that is intended to increase the amount of warning time provided to you before your vehicle enters a reduced propulsion mode while driving, loses propulsion, or might not start.ā€¯the letter goes on to say: ā€what we will do: your chevrolet dealer will update the hybrid power control module (hpcm2).ā€¯ and: ā€this service will be performed for you at no charge until june 30, 2021.ā€¯ (note: this was later extended until october, 2021.)as suggested, i made an appointment to perform this service with a local chevrolet where i live and took my volt there. However, they told me that this service is covered only as part of gmā€™s ā€customer satisfaction programā€¯ and since this vehicle has a salvage title, they would have to charge me (>$150) for this service. For your information, when i bought this volt, it only needed some relatively minor body work and there are no mechanical of safety issues associated with it. Furthermore, my onstar diagnostic report warns me that this vehicle should seek service under gm recall #n172130462 due to "loss of propulsion due to low cell voltage."so it seems to me that that this isnā€™t just a matter of customer satisfaction, but rather a serious safety issue if i should suddenly lose propulsion while driving down the road. However, after writing a letter to gm and having several conversations with their customer care department over the last year, they refused to perform this service at no charge to me as promised in their june 2019 letter. Gm should do the right thing here and fix this problem.
The airbag warning light comes on fairly constantly. The dealership says the passenger seat sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced. It is an expensive repair at over $1,000.
I suddenly totally lost braking power at a stop sign. Was at about 30mph when i tried to apply brakes. I cross the street at good speed and car finally stops about 100 meters away. Display messages: regenerative braking disable, service your brakes, service stabilitrack. Warning light: abs, stabilitrack and maybe others. I then drive this car very slowly in this condition for 5 km. The brake pedal was up and very firm. At home, i shot off car and plug it. One hour later, it was back in perfectly normal condition, no warning light and no message. Test drive show good brakes. I bring the car to the dealer on monday. They found one hidden to customer (no check engine) code, c12e6. They follow instruction and replace abs module. They told me that if i get same problem again they will replace abs pump. I argue with no luck that i cannot go away driving a car with possible sudden brake lost issue. I then contacted gm (volt advisor)with no better results. Gm apparently study my case for 3 months. After that, advisor call me and ask if i have lost brakes again. She said since you haven't lost brakes for 3 months, we consider your car to be well fix, case is close.i personnaly believe that the code is not related to the total brake lost. An abs module can not shut off brakes. The electric brake booster may have a design flaw. Nissan had similar problem with the leaf at low temperature, they made a safety recall. Volt and leaf have similar electric brake booster. Temperature was 18 deg f, road was covered with packed snow, traction was fair. I was getting the usual low traction message when applying brakes too hard before the total brake lost event. Volt brake system involve computer in order to blend regenerative braking and friction brakes. The brake booster is electric (no vacum) and computer driven. I happen to be the actual brake engineer for ski-doo snowmobiles!!!
Incident occurred while coming to a stop at a traffic signal on city streets.reached approximately 5 mphas i approached he intersection, when brake pedal went to floor, and normal braking failed.pressing the pedal as hard as i could, was able to get car to a stop in 2 car lengths, but overran the limit line. Luckily there were no pedestrians or other vehicles in front of me.no injuries or property damage.car was towed to dealership for diagnostics. Car reported "leaking brake circuit" via remote manufacturer diagnostics.internal displays indicate "brake assist failure", "abs failure" and"stabilitrak service required".
On wednesday, december 13, 2017, i was backing up from a starbucks parking lot when i hit my brakes hard to avoid another car (also backing up). The car was in reverse gear at the time i applied the brakes full force. Fortunately, we did not hit each other and i drove on and exited the parking lot.at the first intersection i noticed my brake and stabilitrack warning-indicator lights came on. I was on a surface street with light traffic and when i attempted to brake, as i did, the car swerved and would not brake properly nor come to a full stop even when the brake pedal was fully depressed.pumping the break i was able to manage with intermittent braking ability and drive the car to my home (which is only a short distance from the starbucks).i opened the hood to check the brake fluid reservoir and saw that it was almost completely empty.i could see fluid dripping and pooling under the engine of the car. I contacted the chevrolet dealership and towed the car to them for servicing the next morning.at the dealership, i explained what happened to the service manager and filed a report on gm's online reporting system.the manager came back after inspecting the car and told me that there was extensive damage to the braking system but could not give me a complete assessment other than the master cylinder and brake line would need to be replaced.the car was repaired according to the work order but after testing they found that the problem persisted. I was told that the brake pressure moderator value needed to be replaced.14-days from the time i towed the car in the final repairs were completed.
Warning lights for brakes, abs, and stability control system illuminated on start up and backing out of the vehicle from a parking space.the brakes were mushy but would still stop the car but with much greater effort. The volt apparently has a mechanical fail safe braking mechanism (other than the parking brake) in the braking system even if the hydraulic pressure fails.contact with on star indicated a dtc of c1121 - left front hydraulic system leaking.there was no external evidence of brake fluid leaking on the vehicle and the master cylinder reservoir was at the maximum level.the vehicle was repaired by replacing the master cylinder since the brake pressure could not be maintained over 159 psig.while recognizing that any vehicle part can fail at anytime, failure of a brake master cylinder at such low mileage should be rare.this submission was only to help identify if the master cylinder in the 2014 volt is failing at more than normal rates.
While backing up at low speed, my wife applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor, she lifted her foot and applied the brakes and once again the pedal went to the floor.the car did not slow or stop.the speed was so low that the car came to a stop on its own when there was a small rise.the indicator light said "low traction".this occurred in a private parking lot.the car was backing straight with no steering.
Beginning at approximately 11,000 miles and on relatively straight sections of highway above 50mph, the steering develops a mechanical lock or catching sensation that takes approximately 5lbs of force to overcome and makes it difficult to make fine changes to the steering to maintain straight driving.after the locking is overcome, there is then an increased degree of play in the steering (a few degrees of turning the steering wheel results in no corresponding turn in the front wheels) that leaves me with the sensation that i am not in control of the vehicle.it is more of an annoyance, but it is very fatiguing and distracting on longer drives to be constantly grappling with the steering system for control of the vehicle.interestingly, i discovered exactly the same problem on a rented chevrolet cruze in december.since the volt and cruze share many components, i wonder if this is an endemic problem.
My volt steering wheel sticks in the center position after driving in straight line. It then requires some force to "break out". After this breakout it operates normally. This is concerning while driving on the highway. It is also a known issue and gm issued bulletin 14232a to address it. However my despite my vehicle suffering the same problem as the campaign, my vin was not included in the campaign. Please update the campaign vins to include my vin so gm will repair it.
I've experienced sudden and complete loss of power steering. It can be temporarily alleviated by turning the vehicle off for serveral minutes, however, the problem will usually persist at some point thereafter. This has happened at both low speeds and at highway speeds.

Sticking steering. Temporarylocking feeling steering while driving freeway speeds as well.
3-7-18we have a 2014 volt which is charged with our charging station. My husband was in the vehicle and ireached with my left hand to pop the charger lid open and with my right reached for the charger hose. My left hand finger got trapped in the hinge of the driver door unknowingly my husband slammed the door and crushed my finger with severe lacerations. I was cared for by the fire depart and was told to immediately go to emergency because of the severe injury ,needing stitchesetcthe user booklet has no warning of this nature. The charger lid xis 1.5 inches from the driver door hinge. I wrote to gmacand was denied any claims to my injury.i asked if it is possible to take my grievance to the deign engineer and was ignored. I asked if the charger lid could be altered to open from left to right making it easier to reach with the hose but was ignored. We are a retired couple and do things together. I never thought i would go through the pain and suffering thaat left my finger attached but deformed.

The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet volt. While operating the vehicle, the door ajar sensor indicator illuminated because the rear liftgate door would not remain latched and secured. In addition, the rear liftgate door was hard to open at times and would come down very hard when attempting to close. The contact's son sustained a fractured right thumb when the door slammed down onto the thumb. Medical attention was not received. The local dealer (cable dahmer chevrolet in st. Louis, mo) and the manufacturer were notified, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 40,000.
There is water leaking into the passenger front and rear footwells of the car. This occurs with or without rain, the a/c condenser appears to not be draining onto the ground when the car is stationary as no puddles are showing up under the car like they used to before this problem occurred. Yesterday and today there was no rain, having used a wet vacon the carpet2 days ago the carpet was fairly dry before, using the car last night, today driving it a total of 2 1/2 hours in the last 2 days with no rain, i vacuumed out another pint or 2 of water out of the passenger front, the back was just a little damp but wasn't soaked like the front. I run the a/c whenever i'm driving, as i live in s florida where it's always hot and humid. This problem was first noticed about 2 weeks ago. When i had to wet vac over a gallon out of the car.
Driver's side window failed to return to closed position upon demand, resulting in distracted and unsafe driving condition at minimum road speed.vehicle was in motion and at speed.this occurred in southern california in june.had this occurred in chicago in january, this may have presented an additional hazard for vehicle occupants.alleged cause of failure is a window regulator with a repair cost of $500.this defect appears to be common based on a quick internet search.
Front window defroster not working resulting in poor forward visibility while operating vehicle.window defroster not working because heating system failed.no heat while operating vehicle in electric only mode.forcing vehicle to operate in gasoline engine mode provides some heat, but is not effective in cold climate city driving due to infrequent engine operation.it is not possible to force engine to operate continuously.based on chevrolet volt owners forums the electric heatceasing operation is a common failure in these vehicles and is the result of an electric heat / circulation pump component failure.this component is unique to this type of plug in hybrid vehicle that does not produce enough engine heat to keep the windshield defroster working. Dealer replacement of the failed component was not covered by the voltec warranty though this is a unique component required as part of the voltec propulsion system to provide enough heat for window defrosting in cold climates.the electric heater / circulation pump component failure rate should be investigated for these vehicles and determined whether a safety recall is warranted.
Good morning,i need to file a complaint against gmc for my car not meeting pre-certication as advertised. After three months i had to have my tires replaced and the fuel system is not providing the gas as advertised. The fuel is only around 12 miles a gallon when the air conditioner
