Air bag warning light is illuminated due to a failed sensor in the passenger seat. Had to replace with a used seat.
Passenger side airbag sensor warning.no damage, no cause, it just came on and the service department wants $800+ to fix it.this is a known issue effecting serveral other owners of the same vehicle.it is a defect!
Service air bag light and sound alert began going off random times and now it comes on all the time.i did not realize this indicator meant my air bag would not deploy in case of an accident and the repair for this sensor issue is on the owner.this should not be the case, this is a serious safety issue.the repair estimate of $800-$1200 is not acceptable.i attempted to go to an independent repair shop in hopes of resolving within my budget but due to chevrolet patent on the parts and tools needed for repair independent shops cannot help me.this should be considered a recall as it impairs the safety of drivers and passengers.
The passenger's seat detector for airbag is not functional. There's a report at my dealer (action chevrolet) of the default. I also filed a complaint at the gm customer service and aftersales and was told that they would not pay for the seat component involved beeing outside my 60,000 km warranty (was a little over then!). This is not the result of a misuse or water spill on the seat. I feel that the security of my family is jeopardised by this defect. The cost of repair is important and exceeds our budget of operation for that car. Learning now that many volts of those years were affected by this important problem, i feel that it qualifies for a recall and fixing by gm. Thank you for treating my demand accordingly. Air bag sensor pad in front passenger seat is faulty. Dash light comes on and off at random in front seat. May lead to airbags failing to go off. Front passenger seat faulty, air bag sensor pad is not installed beneath the foam in the seat, instead it is on top. Has lead to numerous problems when even just setting a bag on the seat. This is a safety problem. Powertrain issue, battery section 3 failed prematurely due to a $5 temperature sensor failing. Cost to replace the entire battery section was $3000+ dollars for a $5 part.
Service airbag warning appeared.all other functions checked ok, no codes.one day later the multifunction screen display is blank and all buttons but the climate control are non functioning.only capacitive touch buttons that work are front dehumidifier, and fan control buttons (including auto).air conditioning is stuck on an no other buttons function.may be related to prior submission: nhtsa id number: 10872363
My 2012 has a "service airbag" code that pops up when i start the car. After doing some research on the web, i've come to find out that this is a very common issue, especially with the 2012 chevy volts. The problem is with the passenger airbag sensor in the seat. The repair for this issue is very expensive, and i afraid to have a passenger in my car. This should not be an issue the consumer has to pay for out of pocket. This is a safety issue. Thank you.
Vehicle message said "service engine" "engine unavailable, low propulsion" "service airbag" and airbag light stays on. Took it to hendrick chevrolet apex north carolina. They said there is a recall #n172130462-02. They said that recall did not cover service airbag and airbag light. They said i would need to replace the bcm for $900+. Many complaints for the same problem online at various forums and car websites. Also was reading there was an investigation into these airbags but i do not see a recall for it yet. Please let me know if there is any solution to this issue. The car is used daily to take kids to school and back and i'm concerned the airbags will not go off if needed. Thank you.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
An air bag error message appears on the dash. We discovered if a person sits in the front passenger seat the error clears. We just bought the car, and the dealer states that this safety feature would fall on us to repair. When we test drove the car there as someone in the front passenger seat so we were not aware of the issue till after it was purchased.
Airbag problem warning light.dealer said there is likely a problem with the passenger sensor in the seat and i would have to pay $1200 but that might not fix the problem.we declined the service.i have since read about many more volt owners with this problem.ours started around 80,000 miles.we are currently around $120000 miles.
The service airbag light is on and the dealer said it is a common problem.that a cell phone sitting on the seat can cause the light to come on.it seems to be a flaw in the design and something that the manufacturer should fix for free.
Front passenger seat airbag module is bad. No accidents. Sensor failure comes on when you start the car. Chevrolet is saying it's over $800 to replace. 99950 miles on odometer. Airbag sensor started coming on sporadically while an adult was sitting in the front passenger seat during the last 10,000-20,000 miles of driving vehicle. Now the airbag sensor comes on every time vehicle is started.
Service airbag warning light now stays on permanently. Dealerinspection reveals the front passenger seat passenger discriminating sensor needs to be replaced. Estimated cost is $900.00 +/-this seat has never been wet or damaged, the vehicle has not been in any accident where the airbags deployed.
Occasionally, receive a warning on dashboard that airbags require service. According to the dealer, the passenger presence sensor is defective and disables all airbags (including driver-side) in the vehicle. In september 2019, nhtsa launched an investigation into similar complaints and gm vehicles: https://gmauthority.com/blog/2019/09/chevrolet-volt-under-investigation-for-airbag-warning-lights/
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. The contact stated that the passenger's side air bag warning light would intermittently illuminate with an occupant seated in the passenger's seat. The contact took the vehicle to bob bell chevrolet of bel air (1230 belair rd, bel air, md 21014) where they diagnosed the vehicle with a defective passenger side air bag sensor. The contact was given an estimate for repair which he declined. Recently, the contact stated that the passenger's side air bag warning light would remain illuminated with or without an occupant seated in the passenger's seat. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
Air bag warning light is illuminated due to a failed sensor in the passenger seat. Had to replace with a used seat.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. The contact stated upon starting vehicle, the service air bag warning light illuminated. The contact referenced the nhtsa action number: pe19013 (air bags). The local dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was 115,000.
The air bag warning light keeps going on and off randomly for different lengths of time.i looked up the problem online and it seems like i'm not the only one with this issue and that it has been reported multiple times before.the light normally turns on while the car is in motion.i have not taken it to the mechanic yet because, according to the article i saw regarding similar complaints, sometimes the mechanics can't figure it out if the problem can't be reproduced at the time.i know that this is a problem for this car though and has been reported multiple times.
Service airbag message due to faulty pressure sensor in front passenger seat.cost $800 to replace.
My passenger seat frequently generates a service airbag warning. The last time i talked to a dealer rep about this, i was told it was caused by a faulty "passenger presence module." as i am out of my bumper to bumper warranty, the cost to fix is over $800. I've also seen numerous complains on volt forums about this same issue.
While the vehicle is parked and the key fob is carried inside the owners pants pocket, the owner's keys will inadvertently press against the unlock button on the fob for an extended period of time (5 secs ?). The remote will in turn signal the volt to power all four windows in the car to the "express window down" feature. During this time frame the owner of the car is unaware of the windows in the lowered position and if rain enters the interior of the car the interior & seats become saturated. This in turn may cause the passenger airbag occupancy sensor to malfunction and display the "service airbag" warning light on the driver instrumentation screen. There are reports from gm service departments telling customers the airbag occupancy sensor is defective because the owner got the seat wet and offer very little assistance. The express window down feature can not be switched off from any menu settings of the car.this is a clear recall that can adversely effect the driver / passenger airbag safely deploying.
The passenger seat airbag sensor has gone bad an constantly goes on and off even when there is nothing or nobody in the seat. I have read kn forums and it is a very common issue with the first few years of the volt, and it is a quite expensive fix. I have recieved quotes ranging from $850 - $1200 to replace it. The service airbag light usually goes off and notifies me as soon as i start the car unless there is a person sitting in the passenger seat before i start. Ic it does not trigger the light when i start, then it will trigger the warning light when the passenger moves even slightly. The seat has never been wet or abused.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. The contact stated that while there was a passenger seated in the front passenger's seat, the service air bags and passenger air bags off warning light was illuminated. Colonial west chevrolet of fitchburg located at (314 john fitch hwy, fitchburg, ma 01420) was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not subjected to a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
This issue appears to be related to an open investigation (pe19013).airbag warning displayed after passenger has exited the vehicle ('service airbag').appears to be caused by faulty passenger presence sensor.fault cleared when vehicle is turned off/on.dealer (paradise chevrolet, ventura, ca) advised that passenger presence and airbag systems have an 'internal fault' (b0074, b0081) which dealer service rep stated may cause the passenger airbag not to deploy correctly in the event of an accident.quoted repair cost of $499 for sensor and 3 hours labor (@$150/hr).
Intermittent "service airbag" warning, despite the vehicle never having been in an accident. Occurs while vehicle in motion, sometimes with passenger, sometimes without. Seems to be a sensor/wiring problem.
The passenger front seat occupancy sensor is faulty causing the air bag to not be armed while passenger is in seat.sometimes the air bag will be on but when passenger moves in seat or we hit a bump the air bag light goes off.it will cost $989.00 to fix for a sensor inside seat is what dealer told me.this is a problem several other owners are having.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the reduced propulsion error message was displayed on the instrument panel. The engine revved up and the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to beaty chevrolet (9615 parkside dr, knoxville, tn 37922) where he was informed that the voltage on the battery was low and needed to be replaced. The contact spoke to serra chevrolet cadillac buick gmc kia (189 stonebridge blvd, jackson, tn 38305) where the dealer discussed trading in the vehicle, but offered no assistance for the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 162,000.
I was traveling on a straight city street when i was struck by a vehicle coming off a side street that had lost control of their car. I was hit on the drivers side door. I was going about 25 mph. I hit my head on the door frame above the drivers side window. The side air bag did not deploy. I was taken to the hospital where i had a ct scan of my head and neck performed. I had a slight concussion (memory loss). Had head and neck pain after the accident. My car was a total loss.
My "service airbag soon" light has come on for the passenger side and requires a replacement of the passenger presence sensor and module. I have been quoted by the chevy dealer at $897 before tax. This has been reported by many other people before. Due to the sensor malfunctioning and not knowing if there is or isn't a passenger in the seat the airbag may or may not be active. This is extremely dangerous.
The "service airbag" light starting coming on. I took the car to the dealership and they said that the harness in the driver's seat has a bad sensor or plug and cannot be replaced because gm no longer makes this part.they suggested that i might try to find a replacement seat in a junkyard.this means i have car that is less than 10 years old with a driver's side airbag that may or may not deploy in an accident.the dealership does not have a solution.
While driving the airbag light came on for the passenger airbag.it would come on and go off even while someone was sitting in the seat the airbag would just turn off and then turn back on.
My vehicle for awhile now has given me a service airbag warning when someone sits in the front passengerseat. This also happens randomly when no one sits in the passenger seat. The sensor will switch on and off and continually give me the dash warning light. I have researched this and found tons of other volt issues with the same problem invoking a daily seat sensor that will not properly detect an occupant and will trigger the airbag on and off. This is extremely dangerous as it will not always properly detect if the airbag should be on or off which in the event of a crash could be fatal. Something this dangerous involving the airbag system should be part of a recall. I would like to chevrolet to fix this ongoing issue that so many volt owners are having. This repair is estimated at $800 and is very expensive to me for a safety feature that should work properly. I take great care of my car and have never spilled anything on the seat and have never been in an accident.
Service airbag light appears at random times, none of the seats have any damage or spills. Appears to be a common issue that chevy does not want to fix. Please help.
Airbag light coming on intermittently took car to chevrolet dealer and was told it was a bad sensor in the passenger seat and the cost would be 900 dollars for part and labor.
Vehicle displaying service airbag warning.was told by dealer the passenger airbag will not deploy unless a $1000 part is ordered and installed.this is a critical safety device and should be covered as a safety recall.this warning appears upon starting the vehicle and remains on.the dealer stated the passenger sensing module shorted out internally.the vehicle currently has 124k miles on it.
Constant service airbag warnings, started as intermittent, now it's constant.the passenger seat sensor is defective and would be extremely expensive to repair, this is an obvious design flaw with this vehicle, there's thousands of reports of this from other owners, it's something chevy should recall and repair free of charge.
Passenger front seat sensor for airbag system malfunctions, resulting in passenger airbag being turned off while adult passenger is in seat.this occurs when the vehicle is moving or stationary and both in town and on the highway.dealer indicated this repair would cost nearly $1000 (~$500 in parts and over $400 labor).this vehicle has approximately 62,000 miles.
Air bag sensor error keeps going on and off in dashboard. Took volt in and service department says a faulty passenger side sensor located in the passenger side seat.to fix over $1000 + labour + tax. When error is on, service department says passenger side airbags will not function, my volt is up to close to 100,000 miles read that other 2012 volt owners were experiencing the same error.air bag error started around feb of this year and has been off and on since then.longest period it was on for, was about 3 days so then i took car in. Before that the error would appear for an hour or 2 before disappearing
Randomly when driving it will say service airbag and then the light for the passenger airbag turns on showing that it will not deploy.
Passenger side air bag / seat sensor malfunctioned shortly after purchasing the vehicle. Seen many other complainants exactly the same issue. Got in a car accident and my passenger was almost killed as the air bag did not deploy. The manufactures really needs to recall and fix these seat sensors. This has been going on way to long. Also the conditioning unit failed due to faulty manufacturing.
When passenger is seated, randomly a message stating "service airbag" seems to only happen with people who's weight is over 180 lbs. Happens while in motion or stationary, it seems like a faulty sensor underneath the seat. Dealer\gm stated is not covered under warranty, it should be its a safety issue.
The check airbag sensor comes on sporadically, and the car does not seem to recognize when someone is in the passenger seat. The estimated cost of the sensor repair is ~$900 even though the warning is not consistent. This happens while driving. As far as i can tell, there is no known cause.
Constant updates on the dashboard related to airbag service related issue. The notification frequency is exacerbated when something or someone is in the passenger seat.
Basically when anyone sits in the front passenger seat our 2012 chevy volt the air bag warning detection/ failure come on; this happens when the car is stationary and driving.it started happening sporadic, but lately it has been more consistent with the safety alert defect. It presents some huge safety concerns for us because we are not sure if it would protect the passenger sitting in that seatif there would be an impact. We believe general motors should address this issue.we can't be the only volt having this issue.thank you!
Service airbags warning light on dashboard with no cause.seat and interior has not been exposed to water.many other owners have expressed this problem.no codes indicate anything to isolate what part of the system is affected.
The service airbag light comes on for no apparent reason.it doesn't matter if someone is sitting in the seat or not.if someone is in the seat when this happen the airbag is not armed so it would not deploy in an accident. I am the original owner, it was purchased in october 2011 and has over 90,000 miles on it. This is an important safety issue since the airbag won't deploy during an accident.
Last june i took my car in for normal service and right as i was exiting the lot, i got a "service airbag' notification that was not on there anytime within the 5 years i've had the car, nor before i dropped it off. I asked the dealer to look at it because maybe a sensor or wire was loose and they refused without additional payment. I raised such a question that the manager of the dealership sent me paperwork stating that the dealer i bought it from sold me a salvaged car, however the vin was one number or letter off. The dealer where i received service from also kept asking me if i was in an accident and i have not been; however with my car being a certified pre-owned, maybe there was one previously that was not reported? suffice it to say, a lawyer would be pricey. All & all the paperwork i was sent did not match the vin on my car and i started looking in forums and found many other people were having the same "service airbag" issue out of the blue, which led me to wonder why this hasn't been classified as a recall.
My 2012 chevroletvolt started experiencing problems with the sensor that detects the weight of a individual in the seat. The problem has progressively gotten worse and began around 19,000 miles. It has gotten to a point where if i have a passenger in the car, the air bag warning light will come on after they exit the car. Several other owners in the volt owners club and various other forums have experienced a similar issue. In my car the air bag warning light comes on when someone rides in the passenger seat and then gets of. The "service air bag" message will stay on until i turn of the car or push the seat cushion with my hand. The problem is that gm is not covering the cost on a car with less than 32,000 miles. Leaving customers with a bill of 800 dollars to fix a component that should last the lifetime of the car. As time progresses it seems to problem is becoming more common place and owners are stuck with the bill.the biggest problem is that the airbag may fail to deploy in the event of a crash.
Air bag sensor inside the seat started failing intermittently.over 6 months it went from going off and back on once a trip, to multiple times in a trip.then full on failed.appears to be a common issue based on discussions here: https://gm-volt.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-306433.html
Passanger airbag sensor faulty requiring replacement. When it was malfunctioning the airbag would default to off. Making it not deploy in the event of an accident even if a passager was in the seat.
After a front seat passenger has exited the vehicle, a warning message appears stating service airbag. This will appear immediately after the persona has exited and, in some cases, following the restart of the vehicle without a passenger. Pushing down hard on a certain section of the seat will often make the warning message disappear, but this is happening with regular frequency. Dealer quoting cost to repair is between $900-$1100 dollars. I belive this is part of investigation pe19013.
Air bag warning light is illuminated due to a failed sensor in the passenger seat. Had to replace with a used seat.
The service airbag sensor keeps coming on. We are worried the passenger airbag will not work correctly if needed.
Service airbag sensor for passenger side airbag. I will get the warning ding, then the airbag light will illuminate for a few minutes, then go out again. It used to happen infrequently, when something, like a handbag was on the seat, but is becoming more common as time goes on when there is nothing on the seat. The quote for repair is over $1000. This is not an isolated incident; this should be a recall item by chevy.
Airbag light comes on when even the slightest pressure is placed on the passenger seat. I was told that replacing the sensor in the seat is the only remedy, and that is repair is not covered by warranty. This is a major safety issue that is known to gm.
I purchased my 2012 chevy volt in 2016 at 65,000 miles. Very shortly after purchase, i noticed the airbag light come on. It was not on all the time, but if someone was in the seat or if my purse was on the seat the light would come on and off. Sometimes it will be off, but come on if i hit a pothole - which is inevitable in houston. I took the car to my local chevy dealership, and they told me that i have a faulty airbag sensor in the passenger seat and it would be $800+ to fix the issue. I thought i had an isolated issue until i saw many others with the same problem.
Air bag warning light is illuminated due to a failed sensor in the passenger seat. Had to replace with a used seat.
Service airbag alert was displayed after driving over bump in the road possibly compromising the function of the airbag system in a crash.
Intermittent passenger side airbag warning light illumination. The warning light comes on when very light items are placed on the seat and when a passenger is present.
Passenger side airbag sensor in seat failing on and off for a couple months, steadily getting worse and light/warning coming on more often until it's continuously failing. Seat did not get wet or damaged.
I was making a left hand turn and was hit by an suv who ran a red light doing about 35 or 40 miles per hour on front of my car. It hit the front of my car spinning it to the right [about 160 degree turn] when my car spun i hit the back of my head and left shoulder on the door pillar, my head hurt and i was dazed. The airbags had not gone off i hit the onstar button nothing happened ismelled burning so i turned the car off and got out. I now have a minor concussion due to the failure of the airbags to deploy.
When unoccupied, the driver information display shows "check airbag" and the red indicator on the drivers display indicates that the passenger airbag is disabled.this problem has gone from intermittent to consistent over the past year.
Air bag sensor light is on and from i'm reading on message boards this is a common complaint. I'm trying to find out if a recall is in order.
Airbag sensor warning. 117k miles. Just came on, dealer wants $1100 to fix it. As this is a safety issue gm should fix it free.
In my used chevrolet volt 2012, the airbag light has come on. I took it to a chevrolet dealership and they said that the passenger presence module wasn't functioning, and so it was causing the airbag light to go on and thus making my airbags inoperable. Chevrolet says that my car is out of warranty, but this issue is widely reported on chevrolet volt forums, and makes the car unsafe to operate as their are no working airbags when i drive it. Chevrolet wants me to pay for the repair, but something like a module that detects whether or not a passenger is present should not be a wear-and-tear item like tires or even an engine. I don't think its reasonable to say that this is operater error, and instead i believe it is manufacturer error and by not doing the right thing and correcting their design flaw and manufacturer defect, chevrolet is causing many volt drivers to operate unsafe vehicles that have no operable airbag or pay a large amount of money for a new passenger side seat with a new presence module. Through research on forums, many chevrolet volt drivers have already paid anywhere from $500-$1200 for this repair, and i believe they should also receive compensation. I have not paid to have this fixed yet and am still trying to find a resolution with chevrolet, but as it is a widespread issue, i thought the nhsta should know about it and do something to protect consumers.the car has never been in an accident, and i have no idea why the airbag light came on in the first place.
The air bag sensor warning light is on and air bag will not work for passenger seats. Per the dealership there is an issue with the airbag sensor that they are aware of the cost of repair is 800. To replace the airbag sensor module. They said placing a cell phone or laptop on the seat causes the malfunction but there is no recall at this point. I can't believe placing an electronic on a seat causes the module to go bad and they will not replace the module.
2012 chevy volt airbag passenger side. Light car has been tampered with by the dealerships. Have been dealing with this since i bought the car. Refusal to fix. Issue allows for third party access to my vehicle. Using sub language menus. For spanish and french. This is a major problem and no one is doing anything about it. This calls for a major investigation into chevy dealerships, fraud. My car had this right after my first in warranty service at roseville chevy dealership. Please help. My vehicle is being illiegaly monitored . And exstorted for money to fix a problem that is related to tailight switching bulbs and antilockout issues with the car.
The passenger airbag system will intermittently code for service airbag. It will do this when a passenger is in or not in the seat. When it does this the airbag indicates as off instead of defaulting to on. This is worrisome cause the airbag could not deploy in the event of any accident on the passenger side when it is occupied.
The service airbag light came on due to a sensor in the seat cushion being faulty
The volt was purchased in november of 2012:in / around june of 2013 a warning light came on and it was taken into the local dealer (where it was purchased) it was found to have a leaking coolant system for the primary electric battery (lithium ion battery).they could not find the leak so they refiled the system and included a fluorescent dye and returned it to me (the amount of coolant was ~7 liters).12 months later (plus or minus a few weeks) in 2014, the same light came on, it was again serviced (they claimed to have fixed the leak) and it was returned to me (~7 liters coolant).12 months later (plus or minus a few weeks) in 2015 again the light came on, this time a substantial part of the coolant system was replaced around the lithium ion batteries (claimed to have found a few leaky connections). The vehicle was again returned to me (~all knew coolant).12 months later (plus or minus a few weeks) in now 2016 the same light has come on yet again and it will be returned to the dealer for repair yet again.leading to the warning light the car's fan runs longer and longer while charging (its trying to cool during charging) and the ac stops working / blowing cold. The light usually come on shortly after starting.attempts are currently being made to contact a chevrolet volt / electric car advisor to work with the chevrolet zone manager on fixing / repair this vehicle.this is not only an obvious manufacturing defect, which the dealer clearly can not repair.but also, a major safety concern, if they warning light failed and the battery of this car overheated it would likely cause an intense fire (its a large lithium ion battery).furthermore, they coolant being released by this vehicle is a substance monitored by the epa.this is again a genuine manufacturing safety defect and needs to be resolved or the vehicle declared a lemon.
Was driving volt at low speed in traffic.attempted to switch modes (normal to sport).this is accomplished by pressing a button on the dashboard twice in quick succession.the button is located right next to the start/stop button.i accidentally pressed the start/stop button twice in quick succession, which shuts the car off.the car shut off and i was unable to restart it until i came to a full stop, shifted the car to park, and pressed the brake.the resulted in a small traffic backup behind me.however, this the design and placement of these buttons is very poor.i believe the start/stop button has been designed to shutoff the car relatively easily in light of the recent and public "sudden acceleration" problems by other manufacturers.however, accidentally switching off the car is also an undesirable consequence.had this event happened at higher speeds (on the highway) it could be quite dangerous.

Without warning the illuminated instrument panel goes black. Usually it happens during start up after the car has set for a few hours. The problem resolves itself after driving for several miles,or, if the car is shut off and restarted.numerous complaints about the issue are stated in the chevy volt forum online. The problem appears to be occurring in first generation volts.
The main display on the dashboard is blank. I cannot see my speed or remaining charge or gas.
Purchased car 5-31-12-received gm's '19 recall to reprogram hpcm to eliminate ppr some vehicles had. Prior to service no issues. Coolants replaced same time. Service done 11-19-19 by ourisman rockmont @ 141,301~85% ev, with negative impact. Range now to 28~32 miles/chg, 8.1-8.3 kwh consumed, prior 36-38 miles/chg 9.7-9.9 kwh@60-75f. Eng now runs randomly @ temps btw 40-65f. Called gm,complained assigned case#9-56696768626&taylor@866-790-5600x5916129. Multi msgs b4 call returned. Advice-return to dealer, did on 12-5-19 told car functioning correctly. Called gm voiced discontent w/car since recall service. Told gm relies on dealer techs to determine if car is functioning correctly. Per advisor's rec, took 3rd trip to dealer. Dealer rep stated car was working correctly, said he had complaints from others after recall work, engine running due to low temp, batteries & range deteriorate over time. Requested car be returned pre-recall state, told not an option. Expected battery deterioration from start, didn't expect gm/dealer to break car, causing 2 happen in 1 day. Previously eng ran at 24f w/screen showing running due to temp. No screen now. Car speed drops when engine engages, safety issue on busy roads. Wrote gm 5/20 & dealer 11/2020,no reply. Car driven <6k mi in '20 due to these issues. Don't trust gm/dealer to fix car. Gm sends me to dealer says car performing correctly. Car no longer chrgs, indicates chg system service required. After 2 trips to gm dealer, still not working, told battery may need replacing. If so damage done by gm dealer & gm hpcm2 update. Told in '19 by ourisman rep update fixed battery cell rebalancing issue. Since hpcm2 reprogramming my cars performance fundamentally changed & safety issue when engine engages. Gm should recall vehicles, fix them making owners whole since it is their software & dealer service technicians who created safety issue.
I charge my 2012 chevy volt with the 120v charging unit supplied by the manufacturer.i use the charger in a dedicated circuit of 20 amps.however i have noticed that there may be a deficiency in the gauge of the wire used.the wire from the charging unit to the car becomes quite warm.however, the short cord from the charging unit to the wall plug becomes dangerously hot.so hot that part of the plug has melted and left burn marks on the wall socket.even the wall is very warm indicating that the wiring in the wall is hot as well.i am concerned about a possible fire hazard at this point.would you please investigate? i have attached a photo of the charging unit plugged into the wall showing the scorch marks from overheating. During this time, the car is stationary in the garage.
We have been having multiple onging issues with the high voltage charging system in my volt.it has been in 7 times for this issue since 10/1/13.when i call chevy they claim they are unaware of any issues with my car as the problem has not been paid under a warranty claim.yet the dealer has never charged me as they claim that chevy is paying for the repairs as part of an ongoing warranty extension.what is happening is this allows chevy to claim that they have zero knowledge of charging system issues and creates no paperwork trail to follow.my neighbor who also owns a volt is going through the same problems with the same paperwork issue.i think chevy is covering up the issue of problems with the high voltage charging system by doing this.for example10/1/13 is listed as miscellaneous ses lamp on, body electrical10/22/13 ses lamp on9/2/14 i/p warning lamp9/8/14 body electrical2/21/15 is listed as a drivability problem. Car was dead high voltage charging system issue5/18/15 ses lamp on7/22/15 ses lamp on8/19/15 body electricaleach one was paid for under warranty claims by chevy/the dealer yet they claim to have zero record of most of these service visits.i have spoken with three people from chevy who say these excessive problems with my high voltage charging system is not a problem as they see it
The vehicle has illuminated the check engine light with a warning that the battery is too cold. This occurred while in motion on a highway under normal conditions in summer temperatures. An internet search has indicated that a temperature sensor may be to blame, and that the electrical system may try to heat the battery to an unsafe level.
The car shut off completely while i was driving 65 mph on the freeway and had to be towed into the dealer for repair. It was determined by the dealer that an underhood fuse shorted out and burned into the vehicle battery charging system causing the car to shut down while driving. A major safety hazard as this could have caused an fire.
The vehicle continuously stalls out at any speed the only way to get power back is by putting the car in low gear and then back into drive.
Instrument panel went totally black while driving, engine still runs and vehicle was drivable. Can not check the speed, other than follow the speed of the other vehicle.
The instrumentation panel has went blank. Started blinking when driving, went fully blank by the time i reached home. No way to see the seep or remaining fuel. Contacted dealership the wants to replace the panel but the part to fix this is unavailable. I have been waiting for it for 4 months now,
The display that shows gas gauge, mph, etc. Has gone blank.it is a hazard.there needs to be a recall on this.
The screen on the drivers dash for the instrument panel , speed, gas volume and electric charge, has gone black or blank and stays black in park or in driving mode. The result of the inspection from a chevy technician found the cluster is inop. It needs to be replaced and reprogramed for $923.52 as quoted.this is an on going problem with other volt owners and a complaint : nhtsa id number10872363 has been filed.
Driver's instrument cluster screen flickers and then goes blank while driving/in motion on a city road and on the highway.driver loses all indication of speed, turn signals, lighting, speedometer, cruise control, fuel level, charge level, and all other critical information that is displayed on the driver screen.
The standard charge cord unit supplied with the vehicle by the dealer has failed twice, and i believe it poses a fire risk.the first occurrence was 9/1/12 at approx. 18,000 miles.corrosion was noted on the plug.the dealership technician blamed rust from a recent rainstorm and replaced the charge cord unit.the second occurrence was yesterday at 32,350 miles.the car suddenly stopped charging.on inspection the charge unit and cord were extremely hot, hot enough to have potentially caused a burn or an electrical fire in my garage.over the past 2-3 months, i have noted gradual onset of corrosion on the outlet and the charger plug.(of note, there has been no rain here in las vegas for several months).the dealership replaced the charge cord unit today.i commented to the service technician that i believe there is a problem using solely the 110 volt charger in a regular household outlet.dealership personnel implied that the volt is supposed to be charged on a dedicated circuit breaker with no other use.however, this information does not appear anywhere in the owners manual, nor in the charge cord unit manual i received today, nor have i been told this at the time of purchase, nor at the time of the initial charge cable recall in early 2012, nor on 9/1/12.the only printed information about charging is that the volt can be plugged into a regular household outlet (owners manual 1-20), and that it is recommended to leave it plugged intemperatures over 90 degrees f. To preserve battery life (owner's manual 9-44).on review of websites and blogs, i note that other volt owners have had a similar problem.
The main driver display does not come on usually when it is cold outside.this happens mostly in the winter, but has been happening more when temps are in the 70's.never in the summer.there is no speed, fuel or mileage display.
The contact's daughter's boyfriend owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 35 mph, the vehicle abruptly independently slowed down with an unknown message on the instrument panel. The contact's wife continued driving the vehicle at a slow speed. Upon reaching her destination, the contact attempted to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to start. Due to the failure, the contact's wife had the vehicle towed to her residence. The contact stated that the electrical vehicle was unable to be recharged, and remained inoperable. The manufacturer had been notified of the failure however, offered no further assistance. A dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 149,627.
Lcd screen that shows speed and fuel level and information shorted out while driving
The charging cord melted the electrical outlet in my garage while charging the car with the 110 volt charging kit that was sold with the car.the incident nearly started a house fire if we had not discovered the problem -a melted electrical outlet was smoldering and there was the smell of burning plastic/electrical components when we entered the garage.i have contacted the dealer (woodward motors in andover, ma),and generalmotors.the dealer said they could not do anything and referred me to general motors.general motors said they could not do anything unless i produced the license of the electrician who wired my house that was built in 1982 (i bought the house in 2007 and have no idea who built or wired my house).i understand that gm knows this is a problem and has replaced some of the 110 volt charging cords shipped with the volt. Not clear how to resolve this issue - i have an electric car that i now have to fuel with gasoline...
I have had various electrical issues-november of 2012. First back up camera went blank, july 2014 check engine light high voltage; november 14 electrical issue; june 2015 unintentional running light on; july 2015 same issue; august 2015 check engine/aribag light on dealer checked and reset codes . August 2016 check airbag light on.went in several times steve moore ordered part that would be $1,200 to fix.light went off.when check airbag came back on took the car to a different dealer.city chevrolet said i needed a new 12 volt battery replaced battery within 48 hours of being at the dealer issue came back.now the lcd screen is blank.the problems seems to be electrical in nature
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and completely lost power. The vehicle was towed. In addition, the check engine indicatorilluminated without warning. The vehicle was diagnosed, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,014.
While driving sudden loss of power having to basically depress gas pedal to maintain speed while simultaneously receiving "reduced propulsion error". Dealer cleared error and did a reprogram. After picking up vehicle range was reduced approximately 1/3rd but car ran. Shame on me for not being more forceful about range reduction because this battery was defective. This summer june 2020 complained about reduced range and dealer did more programing. Now in october 2020 reduced propulsion error came back and hybrid battery is bad. Warranty ran out in may 2020 and gm refusing to acknowledge 2018 date of defective battery.
Driving on busy freeway when i accidentally bumped the start button on my volt. The car shut off at 65 mph and when i realized what i had done i immediately pushed the button again which put the car in maintenance.mode, leaving my wife and i to navigate to the right burm through several lanes of heavy high speed traffic, with no power. You have to have your foot on and depress the brake to restart. I managed to get to the burm safely. Others may not be so lucky. I reported this on the volt website phone number and never heard anything. Do to gm's recent ignition switch recalls and resulting deaths. I feel it necessary to report this. I hope this letter my save lives. I lived through the ford pinto cover up. I sold the car a few months ago.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the check engine and service high volt system warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 109,000.
The driver's info screen (speed, odometer, remaining fuel, warning lights, turn signals, safety messages, etc.) went blank while i was driving. It intermittently comes back on, but goes blank again.
Nhtsa id number:10872363the instrument panel display screen went blank and will not come back on. The backlight is functioning and it will intermittently reboot and display but only temporarily. It started gradually and would occasionally go blank while driving on highways and city streets; both in motion and stationary, and eventually failed entirely. After researching the issue, it seems this is a common issue which no dealer seems to know how to fix. This means no speedometer, no fuel/battery range information, and no indicator lights of any kind. The odometer is also now not visible. Originally this issue only occured when the outside temperature was over ~75f (a common noted factor with other volts having this problem). The issue has since progressed to being fully disfunctional.
Temperature sensors responsible for monitoring the battery pack fail unexpectedly. Sometimes displaying a "battery too cold plug into warm" message or a check engine light. Personally, this is the second time i've had a sensor fail. The entire module containing the failed sensor must be replaced. The battery is made up of three different sections called modules. When a sensor fails, the car will simply refuse to start despite being within a normal operating temperature range. I've had the message display when in motion. This time however, the message was accompanied by a check engine light, and a burning odor that resembles burning plastic while the engine is running. I have yet to experience reduced propulsion of any kind while driving.
There is an apparent design flaw in the chevy volt related to an individual exiting the vehicle without powering down the systems which could result in co poisoning or death and possible fire hazards in the right situation.the volt uses a key fob system and push button start.key fobs are already proving to be a safety issue.with the volt, the situation is exacerbated.since the car is virtually silent, it is very easy for a person to forget to turn off the car, and when they exit, the lack of any engine noise will often not give them the cues necessary to realize their mistake.when the individual leaves the car powered on, the battery will drain.when the battery is sufficiently drained, an engine will turn on and charge the batteries.this is significant, because this will likely happen sometime after a person has parked their car.the result will be a garage filling with co fumes.the volt will continue to run the engine, in cycles, until there is no more gas in the tank.while there have already been deaths associated with non-electric vehicles equipped with key fobs and co poisoning as the result of the driver forgetting to turn the car, this is going to be much more common in electric hybrid vehicles.in an unscientific poll conducted on gm-volt.com, of 100 respondents, 30% admitted to forgetting to turn their vehicle off.one user on the site forgot to turn the vehicle off, and entered the garage sometime later to find it filled with fumes.there needs to be passive (horn signals upon exit) or active (well engineered auto shutoff) systems put in place to prevent a tragedy.
The check airbag sensor comes on sporadically, and the car does not seem to recognize when someone is in the passenger seat. The estimated cost of the sensor repair is ~$900 even though the warning is not consistent. This happens while driving. As far as i can tell, there is no known cause.
At random times and days, when starting the car, the center lcd display is blank.this display is crucial for the safety of the vehicle because it displays your speed, the battery life and gas tank amount, turn signal indicators as well as other important details needed when driving.it's not safe to drive this car when the vehicle's screen is blank.this has happened 4 times. 3 of the 4 just recently. After a day or 2, the screen will start working and then after a day or 2, it would stop.it's an on going issue and i'm finding out through forums that there's a bunch of complaints about this issue and not just with the 2012 volt but with other year volts as well.i'm concerned for my safety as it's dangerous to drive blindly without knowing your speed or how much gas or battery life you have left.
Drivers display dashboard is black when started. Hasn't returned after many restarts, charges, locks and battery disconnects.
Driving in mountains and hit rumble strip on highway and electric power steering went out. After stopping, power steering returned to normal.fortunately, i was on a straight stretch of road and could control the car. Took it to dealer and they could find no reason for the failure.the problem has not recurred in the six months since.
The issue is caused by a previous software update to the vehicle interface control module (vicm) which was installed to improve the car, but which may have disabled the cell balancing function, causing the volt to enter a low-voltage condition. This puts the affected volts into a situation where it would enter what is called a low-power "limp-home" mode, before shutting down completely cause the volt to shut down in traffic. Dealer states that needs to replace battery which it cost about 6000.chevrolet is not responding for the defective problem that caused the recall. Low-voltage battery cell issue or propulsion reduce
The instrument cluster has gone completely blank in the car. It went in and off for two days and then died completely.this is a major hazard as i dont know how fast i am going or the gas amount i have in the car. This was a major problem as i was driving the car when this happen not knowing if the entire car was going to black out very scary moment.
Driver's information screen failure.upon starting, screen would not illuminate.cannot see speed traveling, fuel available, turn signals, hazard lights, etc. Unsafe and seemingly common problem that we are now experiencing ourselves.
Evse charging cable stopped working. Gm flip flopped over the last year on warranty coverage. I have technical service bulletins with the warranty coverage status changed from v (voltec), to bumper-to-bumper, in the middle of the warranty period as of dec 1st, 2017 (not what i agreed to when i purchased the car). Unable to charge vehicle at home without it. Gm replaced a significant number of these units under a recall campaign between 2012-2013, only for a portion of the vin #'s from the 2011-2012 model year. Mine was not included. They are many others with this problem, and gm has refused to replace the rest of the 2012 model year units. I have exhausted all avenues of trying to have gm stand behind their product, including involving the ceo of gm, mary barra, via the attached emails. This needs to be escalated to recall status for the other 10,000 some 2012 volt units on the road today that gm will not stand behind.this relates to the car being stationary. Charging the vehicle via the evse is absolutely needed to drive the vehicle in electric (ev) mode.
Volt loses power when switching from electric to gas motor.has no occurred two times, both resulting in a tow bill. Te volt depletes the onboard battery charge and is then supposed to switch ove to the niternal combustion engine. Instead, at the time of transition the vehicle loses all propulsion power, power steering, etc. The car comes to a complete stop and will not move. This has happened on a multiple-lane freeway and is very dangerous trying to maneuver a vehicle that has no power to drivetrain or steering.
Drivers display dashboard is black when started. Has not returned after many restarts, charges, locks and battery disconnects.
I was driving in 50 mph traffic it lost all propulsion.the problem i have sounds exactly like the problem gm has issued a recall for with 2013-2015 volts.i believe gm did or should have anticipated the problem and did nothing.gm program n172130462 has owners of 2013-2015 volts bringing their cars in to dealerships for a software update.gm has recognized that these cars "may have a condition where it could gradually lose the ability to maintain voltage. If battery concerns are not addressed, over time the vehicle could enter a reduced propulsion mode while driving, or lose propulsion, or it may not start."i brought my volt in to the dealership on january 31, 2019, because it was not consistently holding the charge that it normally did and the car would often start in "low propulsion mode" when starting it after turning it off with the battery low or depleted.despite being under warranty the dealership, bob steele chevrolet in cocoa, fl, claimed the could not figure out what was causing the problem, refused to try further, and sent me on my way with a bill for their failed efforts.on july 19, 2019, i was driving in on my way to work in my 2012 volt with 101,400 miles.the car switched from battery to gas as it had many times before.about one mile later it switched back to battery, gave a message that it was going into "low propulsion mode", and stopped providing any propulsion.this occurred while i was on us1 and it was dangerous for me to rapidly change lanes while losing speed to get off the road.i got to a parking lot without enough speed to get up the mild incline at the entrance and was stuck blocking the entrance while i awaited a tow truck.this loss of propulsion could have happened at any speed and things would have been worse had i been on the interstate.
Vehicle dies suddenly while moving, although under full electric charge. Could not restart.chevy said was software problem and made fix dec 2018.just happened again yesterday 2/17.others reported on volt blog site.said wait 5-10 minutes and then restart, which i did and that worked. Concern that loss of power is sudden and without warning.died in middle of intersection this time but fortunately no cross traffic.this is serious problem -- apparently others have had same issue.reporting to local chevy dealer at this time.
11/10/2018 while driving about 45mph heading school the car totally shut down for not reason, and would not restart. The ev mode shut down and the gas engine did not start. Police recommend to get it towed to safe location. Onstar records, multiple shut down of computer modules. 11
The florida department of health (doh), bureau of epidemiology received a report of carbon monoxide (co) poisoning associated with a 2012 chevrolet volt. As a part of routine surveillance for reportable conditions, doh followed up on this report to investigate. On march 2, 2015, three people went to an emergency department (ed) for co poisoning. A 40 year old male parked his 2012 chevrolet volt in the garage to charge (plugged into the outlet) and accidentally left the car running overnight. In the morning, he noticed the car was running and had switched to gasoline use. He and his two children complained of headache, weakness, chest pain, palpitation, and dizziness. Carboxyhemoglobin (cohb) levels were >15% for all three individuals. On march 12, 2015, several news media outlets reported that gm is recalling all 2011-2013 chevrolet volts (about 64,000) to install updates to prevent co poisoning when the driver forgets to shut off the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt hybrid. The contact stated the engine started independently without warning. The contact was alerted of the problem and found that the garage had become filled with exhaust. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 14,750.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. While driving various speeds, the instrument panel malfunctioned. The contact stated that the screen became black and none of the instrument cluster icons were visible. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. Regal chevrolet in lakeland, florida was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
Volt loses power when switching from battery to gas. Has now occurred four times. Each time volt is traveling on highway 65+mph. Volt depletes battery charge and immediately upon transition to gas will lose all power. Cannot accelerate. Steering wheel loses power steering. Volt will decelerate until 0 mph. Very dangerous. In each instance driver is forced to get to shoulder or off freeway in volt which is rapidly losing speed.occurred on highway without shoulder last time. Almost caused a serious accident.
The car will shut itself off with very little time to get to the side of the road if that is even a possibility.when switching from battery power to the gas motor. Randomly. The car will die at any speed.first message is low propulsion power.next message engine not available, service soon. Less than 4 minutes from 1st message to total shut down.least amount of time between messages and shut down is 15 seconds.car will decelerate (on highway where vehicles behind have no warning... No brake lights that car is rapidly losing speed). Never know when it will happen.usually car will restart and run terrible.. After 20 minutes or so. After restart car runs bad low power. Check engine light is on. After 10 more minutes of driving. It straightens out. Usually.dealership unable to find problem. Assorted codes in computer.very dangerous when driving. Especially when it happens and it is 15 seconds to complete shut down.i have opened a case with chevrolet.no response as of yet. They were supposed to call within 2 days. I will upload an attempt at restart as it is the only one i have where i was safely in a parking lot when it happened.usually i am not.and many roads in my area do not have a shoulder.
When the vehicle would come to a stop, the parking brake would engage by itself. The only way to disengage it was to turn the vehicle off and on again. The second time i did this, the vehicle failed to shift out of park, and the vehicle was disabled in the middle of a roadway. The cause was a faulty charging port sending out a false proximity signal to the car's computer, making it think it was charging...updated 08/27/15
The instrument panel goes completely blank when starting the car, and stays blank for the duration of the trip.speed, warning lights, and all other indicators are completely absent.the event appears to be random, with sometimes the panel working fine, other times it is completely blank.the car appears to otherwise work perfectly fine, and can be driven in this state, although i think this is a very unsafe situation.it has happened in cold conditions, warm conditions, and everything in between.
The charger over heats and melts wirescoating shorting the wiring cause charger to blow fuse leaving a fire hazard in your garage
The information display has gone black. The information display shows speed, mileage, fuel level, turn blinker status, and other critical information. The screen brightness adjustment does not affect the display and is not the problem. The issue continues whether the vehicle is in motion or stationary, on city streets or highway, turning, or braking. I do not know the root cause of the issue but it appears to involve onboard computer components. The vehicle has not been in an accident nor damaged in any way.
Driver screen goes completely blank, leaving the driver with no idea how many miles until empty,no speedometer, no warning lights,or any other information.
Owned car for 8 months. Using 110v outlet to charge electric battery. Charges fine every night. Unplugged charger today. Charging connector is black, semi melted. Outlet is black and charred. Appear to be days away from a fire. I live in a new home (less than a year old) valued at over 500k. Huge electric car fan, but both wife and i are now concerned about fire in house with young kids.
The dashboard instrument panel goes blank in cold weather. Not able to see speed or any other information.
Airbag light coming on intermittently took car to chevrolet dealer and was told it was a bad sensor in the passenger seat and the cost would be 900 dollars for part and labor.
Breaks failed while driving 25-30 mph on windy mountain road . There was no warning , car started to accelerate downhill gradually . After about 0.3 miles i was able to finally push emergency breaks (it's a button and didn't work at first ) get to more flat road and stoped the car by driving on gravel and dry brush . Vehicle completely lost its power about 2-3 minutes later . Emergency lights didn't work . Chp assisted us as car was abandoned in the middle of mountain road , blocking the whole line . Gm has not offered any explanation yet .
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. While driving 35 mph, the tachometer gauges became inoperable. Passenger side airbag sensor in seat failing on and off for a couple months, steadily getting worse and light/warning coming on more often until it's continuously failing. Seat did not get wet or damaged.
Driver had returned home, stopped car, depressed gear shifter button to put gear in park, and was electrocuted from the point of gear shifter.the vehicle was already slated to be "repurchased" by gm due to other ongoing mechanical malfunction issues.the vehicle was returned to the driver for use while the new vehicle was being built by gm for delivery to the driver.when the vehicle was at the dealership for additional malfunctioning repairs, the last time before incident (including a malfunction with the main battery component the dealer determined) the dealer's mechanic reported finding a "stiffness" or malfunction with the gear shifter.the dealer ordered and replaced a part to the gear shifter.the driver drove the vehicle without incident for about three weeks before the electrocution occurred.gm was informed of the incident immediately afterwards.gm instructed driver to call 911 to have "first responders" disconnect the power in vehicle.fire dept refused to cut power cables in vehicle, for lack of knowledge of the systems, and fear of their safety, since the driver was no longer in danger inside of vehicle.luckily, when incident occurred, driver was able to quickly remove their point of contact from gear shifter before the hand and arm muscles had involuntarily contracted in place permanently closing the contact and resulting in further electrocution.driver sustained significant electrical shock injury to hand/arm including pain, shock, soreness, numbness, and tingling sensation.since incident, gm is only willing to transfer driver to their product allocation department which acts in a legal capacity and accepts claim reports for further investigation.driver's immediate concern is not to sue gm but to insure all reasonable efforts are made to inform other volt dealers of incident and hopefully prevent other drivers from being electrocuted......updated 01/30/13updated 2/4/2013
About 2 minutes after starting and while driving about 20mph, the driver's lcd panel suddenly went completely black. This contains the speedometer, battery gauge, fuel gauge, turn signal indicator, and shift position indicator. I turned off the car and restarted, and it came on but went black again.now when starting the car, it doesn't come on at all.
The vehicle information center (drivers display) goes out.speed, warnings, fuel level, turn signal indication are not available and potential safety problem.
Went out to start my car to go to work and the touchscreen or main data screen is black. I can't tell if i have any electrical power or if the heat or ac or stereo is on. If this were to happen on a trip out of town it could put me in severe danger.
The display screen which shows my gas, battery amount as well as my speed has stopped working. I have changed the fuses, disconnected the battery and it still will not come on. This is dangerous, as i cannot see how fast i am going and can potentially run out of gas and battery power on the highway with no way to get anywhere. This is the only thing that has gone out, everything else in the car is working. It has been reproduced and i cannot drive anywhere safely because of this. I am in fear of what may happen, as well as the legal ramifications of not knowing my speed. No warning, just flickering of the screen and then it went blank and has not come back on.
The lcd screen showing speed, charge level, amount of fuel goes dark as i drive down the road. It comes back on after restart but shuts back down. Very dangerous, don't know how fast i'm driving or fuel level.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. While driving 65 mph, the instrument cluster went completely dark. The vehicle was taken to george moore chevrolet (10979 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, fl 32225) where it was diagnosed that the instrument cluster failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they could not assist because the vehicle was out of warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. ..updated 10/23/17

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 140,000. The vin was unknown.
Car was being driven on an interstate highway at the speed limit, approximately 30 miles from home.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. The contact stated that the brake pedal was applied and did not respond numerous times. The failure occurred intermittently. While driving, the transmission brackets fractured and caused the transmission to become detached. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection and repair. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v271000 (electronic stability control, service brakes). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.
The stability control system frequently accelerates when braking on a manhole cover or a major pothole. The acceleration is hard and could easily cause the driver to rear-end the car in front. I'm aware of the issue and brake fully before such an obstacle if there is a stopped car in front, but i warn every other person who drives my vehicle because of the seriousness of the issue.
The display that shows gas gauge, mph, etc. Has gone blank.it is a hazard.there needs to be a recall on this.
Driving using cruise control during commute at 60mph. Simultaneously experienced drastic power loss and check engine light. Onstar diagnostics reported an electrical propulsion system malfunction. Attempted to navigate to a safe parking area but eventually lost all propulsion and ended up in a traffic lane. Significant impact to control especially in highway traffic that nearly resulted in a collision.

I was driving the car normally in electric mode, and parked it with one mile remaining of electricity. Upon restarting the car a few minutes later, the gasoline engine came on and was revving at a very high rate. In addition, a pop-up message on the dashboard read 'propulsion power is reduced.' the engine continued to rev high and i was only able to achieve a speed of about 30 mph during my two-mile ride home. Upon parking the car in garage and charging it, the problem disappeared. It was 90 degrees outside when this happened.

11/10/2018 while driving about 45mph heading school the car totally shut down for not reason, and would not restart. The ev mode shut down and the gas engine did not start. Police recommend to get it towed to safe location. Onstar records, multiple shut down of computer modules. 11

When i turned on the vehicle the touchpad showed no a/c.i started to drive the vehicle and approximately 5 miles the heater came on and blew hot air, then after awhile the a/c came on.after accelerating from a stop when i reached approximately 45 mph the vehicle lost power and the steering wheel locked up.i could not control the vehicle.then the vehicle jolted and the power returned.this has happened prior and was taken into chevy dealership for repair.loosing power and steering capability is not safe.
My car has had ongoing problems with power propulsion, electrical system, and start-up since new and several items were replaced in 2017. I purchased 6 year / 100,000 extended warranty when new. Several items have been replaced. But updates are needed to keep the car running properly. Now the warranty has expired but the vehicle still needs updates to run properly and the dealer wants paid to install updates. This is a scam if the car wont run with out being updated yearly.i have a video of the car in 2017 when i started it up and it sounded as though it was going to blow up. I couldn't shut it off and called onstar to shut off the vehicle. That is when several items were replaced. The car is in the dealership again for another update. 8-28-20. There was an updated performed 11-11-19 and 10-10-18. It seems as though there is always an update being performed.
While i was driving home my car would surge then lose power.i pressed the onstar button and a vehicle test was conducted.i was told the transmission needed attention.also, the vehicle lost power while driving and i had to pull off the road.i was on a rural road so no one else was affected.had i been on the interstate this could have affected others and myself in a negative way.i took the vehicle in and jessup auto in catherdral city, ca keptit several days and corrected the issue.the main issue is losing power while driving.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that there was a cylinder misfire. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.
I have owned the vehicle for 4.5 years.in the last two months the error message "propulsion power reduced" has happened and the vehicle has gone into lip mode.all three times the message occurred when the vehicle was started, battery depleted, and gas engine running.drivabilty was an issue as the car was in limp mode and would not accelerate properly.my car was taken to the dealer, twice.i was told by jay townsend, district manager aftersales chevrolet, that this is normal operation and he pointed to a bulletin.he said there is no fix, but that going into limp mode spontaneously was a " vehicle characteristic ".it is illogical that an error message popping up is normal "vehicle characteristics" and that going into limp mode is normal.this is a big problem that gm seems willing to accept.obviously some parametersbeing broken is setting off the warning message, but gm doesn't want to address this.instead they are stating it is normal operation.someone is going to be hurt because of sudden reduction of power and gm's deliberate denial to fix the problem.i don't want this to be me or my family.
My 2012 chevy volt has completely shut off at freeway speeds, and surface streets on over 15 occasions.the power steering assist goes out, the brake assist goes out and it's very difficult to steer and break the car, i have nearly avoided several accidents, there is no warning that this will occur.the power steering assist goes out, the brake assist goes out and it's very difficult to steer and break the car, i have nearly avoided several accidents, there is no warning that this will occuronce i have attempted to safely pull over the car says engine not available, propulsion power reduced, the car will not turn off and it says waiting to initialize on the screen. I have had it towed to my local chevrolet dealership and paid a diagnostic, they have been unable to determine the cause of the problem and they just reset the car by unplugging the battery and tell me that they cannot replicate the issue.this does not happen while the car is driving on his hybrid battery, it only happens when driving in hybrid mode with the gas motor.in doing my own research,i found a recall campaign that describes the exact issue that has been occurring, it even states that the car may not be safe to drive if this occurs.recall #18v397000. I was slowing down at a merge point, when vehicle "stalled". I and dealer worker could notrestart for 45 minutes, at which time it finally started. Drove to dealership, checked out briefly, seemed ok. Drove it again less than a mile, and for 2nd time, again stalled for approx. 45 min.car couldn't be started. Finally car responded and drove 2nd time to dealer, where it was leftfor analysis and possible repair. Car purchased aug. 30 2011, incident sept. 1, beginning7-8am. Car is now in dealer's hands for possible repair. Chevrolet volt hybrid extremely dangerous situation if car stalls in major intersection or at high speed on highway.defective component battery, engine, computer??

Went out to start my car to go to work and the touchscreen or main data screen is black. I can't tell if i have any electrical power or if the heat or ac or stereo is on. If this were to happen on a trip out of town it could put me in severe danger.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt.the contact stated that the rear reverse light would not illuminate bright enough to determine how close the vehicle was to a wall or a person.the contact stated that the failure caused the contact to crash into and injure two pedestrians while reversing.the dealer made an attempt to resolve the failure and the manufacturer was notified, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 32 and the current mileage was 128. Updated 02/13/12
Gm sent me the following letter dated sept. 2016: "this letter is intended to make you aware that some 2012 model year chevrolet volt vehicles may have a condition where the accelerator pedal can break at the stalk just below the housing due to the driver entering or exiting the vehicle with their foot resting on the accelerator pedal. If the pedal breaks, it would not be possible to operate the accelerator once the stalk has broken off. The vehicle would return to idle regardless of transmission gear position. Do not take your vehicle to your chevrolet dealer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition described above...if this condition occurs on your 2012 volt within 10 years of the date your vehicle originally placed in service or 120k miles, whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge." in other words, gm will not recall the vehicle and repair the pedal in advance. If it breaks, they'll fix it, but the car will be inoperable so it will have to be towed to a dealer. This is not only dangerous, it could happen in a remote location. I spoke with a volt representative today who confirmed that gm will not recall the car and will only make the repair if needed, and only within 10 years or 120k miles. This is a serious problem and gm should be required to issue a mandatory recall and make the repair quickly and free of charge. The letter is signed by terry inch, executive director, gm global connected customer experience. The letter provided a customer service number of 1-800-222-1020.

[xxx] 2012 chevrolet volt the vehicle has been stopping at the end of a battery charge when it's supposed to switch to the gasoline motor. The hybrid battery management has a loss of propulsion message caused by the battery voltage in various cells not being balanced.there was a recall and the only change is when the car stops it is able to limp off the road instead of coasting in neutral. The original problem was not fixed y the recall.also the recall was applied to the 2013 and newer and not to this vin. The newly recalled settings are no better than the original issue and the same condition in software is causing a powertrain failure while driving.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
No accident: the degree of distortion in rear glass is unsafe. Optics may not meet auto glass and or federal safety requirements. I have worked in the glass industry in quality control and this glass would not meet company or federal standards. With distortion this bad the particle size could be an issue as well. This could be a serious problem. Gm has agreed to replace my glass, however i would be concerned about other rear windows in that same run time.

Vehicle has been to three different gm dealerships all with a failure of acceleration and the message that appears on the dash of "propulsion power is reduced."today it almost causes an accident as my daughter pulled into traffic to make a left turn when the vehicle did not accelerate causing the other driver to take evasive action to avoid a traffic crash.do people need to die before this addressed by general motors?

When filling the gas tank: back pressure is sensed by gas station pump and stops the flow of gas after a quick moment. Continuing these short bursts can take a long while. If trying to fuel slowly below the threshold of the back pressure being sensed by the pump, it could result in gasoline flowing and squirting out of the gas tank opening, onto: the car, tire, brakes, underside of car & the attendant filing the gas tank.

The drive motor rotor bearing failed at approximately 71,000 miles. This major repair to the drive train makes the car unusually loud and the dealer cautioned that it was a safety hazard and that if left in repaired could cause more substantial damage to other vehicle components.
Concern that loss of power is sudden and without warning.died in middle of intersection this time but fortunately no cross traffic.this is serious problem -- apparently others have had same issue.reporting to local chevy dealer at this time.
Service high voltage charging system checked reservoir and it is below cold level mark system will not charge now
The vehicle has illuminated the check engine light with a warning that the battery is too cold. This occurred while in motion on a highway under normal conditions in summer temperatures. An internet search has indicated that a temperature sensor may be to blame, and that the electrical system may try to heat the battery to an unsafe level.
The power (propulsion) system has disappeared from screen while driving switching to fuel only.screen goes blank and all electric miles disappear.note this has happened four times in the last few months, sending several error codes each time and the dealer keeps it for a week or more to reset engine and battery icon.corporate office tech's having problems with answers, took my controls and battery back for testing and replaced with new ones.still having the same problem.
Takata recall: this has happened several times over the last 2-3 years.i believe it happens mostly after the car has been sitting for an hour and after the engine is on gas only.i will drive a few minutes andthe warning light comes on the "propulsion power is reduced."i have to stop and pull over.the car will not accelerate. It has happened in all temps and all times of day.the engine runs rough and my gas mileage plummets.the last 2 times the battery has recharged while i drove it with additional battery only time of up to 5 miles. It has happenedat least 6 times over the last 3 years and the last time i was almost run over by a large dump truck. It has happened 3 times merging onto a busy highway. I have brought it to the dealer 4 times for this problem and they cannot reproduce it so they say they can't fix it.the last close call scared me sufficiently that i have asked the dealer service repair to notify gm and they said there is nothing they can do without a code.i don't have the documents from the last visit to service as it is still in the shop.
Complete loss of propulsion while driving at highway speed immediately after transition from battery to fuel. Able to coast off of interstate and come to a stop on a busy frontage road, not able to accelerate further to move out of traffic.
My 2012 chevrolet volt shutdown while driving with a full tank of gas when the electric battery reached zero range. The car went into neutral on the freeway at 65mph and would not move under its own power. The car would not jump start or charge. The hpcm2 has disabled charging and caused a check engine light with all 4 batteries in low voltage lock out. This is the same problem as another recall which gm will not perform because the vin was not included. Nhtsa campaign number: 18v397000 i have a unsafe car that is now locked out until the recall is applied but the factory will not apply the recall.
11/10/2018 while driving about 45mph heading school the car totally shut down for not reason, and would not restart. The ev mode shut down and the gas engine did not start. Police recommend to get it towed to safe location. Onstar records, multiple shut down of computer modules. 11
After shifting into "d" drive, on a flat area, and while standing still, then pressing on the accelerator, the car went backwards as if in r. Repeatedly shifting back into p or r and then to back into d, did not change the behavior. Kept going in reverse as if in "r". Only turning the car on and off a few times brought it back to normal.

Each time i towed my chevy volt to the dealer it sat there for several weeks to a month, they returned it to me and the next day it died in the road.the car is not safe to drive, the dealer states that they can't diagnose the problem and i fear for my life every time i drive the car because it happens at random.
Radiator leak
Came to stop at busy intersection when the car lunged forward several times until i threw it into neutral.this unintended acceleration has happened three times since i had the car's battery serviced a little over a month ago.in addition, the car will sporadically not go into regeneration mode as it is supposed to do when coming to a stop or slowing down.this also just started happening since the battery service was performed.
The drive motor rotor bearing failed at approximately 71,000 miles. This major repair to the drive train makes the car unusually loud and the dealer cautioned that it was a safety hazard and that if left in repaired could cause more substantial damage to other vehicle components.
Driver's side front wheel began making extremely loud whining-like sound while highway driving.parked the car until it could be accepted at the certified chevrolet service department at a local dealership.technician immediately diagnosed the problem and expressed it as "common."the issue is a separation of the "electric driver motor b rotor bearing cage" requiring a revised bearing installation.this is clearly a design flaw as gm requires a new/revised bearing installation, and is likely progressed with the vehicles regenerative braking.gen1 models do not have a customizable regenerative braking option to alleviate this stress on the rotor bearings.in researching the issue, the service bulletin provided by gm is has progressed to an appended letter l (bulletin no. Pip5081l).a large number of volt owners share this experience, many of which qualify for warranty repair.my vehicle's warranty period expired by less than one year and 11,000 miles.
Upon arriving at our vacation destination, we were in the process of checking into our hotel in tulsa, ok. It was a hotso i told my autistic adult son to stay in the passenger seat with the a/c on while my wife and i unloaded the luggage. The car had been backed up a slight grade into the parking spot.moments later my wife screamed out that the car was backing up.she ran to the passenger door and reached in attempting to put the car in park.instread she bumped it into drive and the car moved forward dow the grade. She ran along side it trying to protect our son who by this time had attempted to exit the car. She bruised up her shins quite badly.at this point i had reached the drivers door and applied the brake.i believe this is a design flaw present in many gm vehicles with console automatic shifters.heres why:the console makes provision for storage in the area ahead of the shifter. (this is true of the sonic loaner car i am presently driving)unfortunately items stowed in this manner can interfer with the shifter going into park. In my case, my bluetooth headset was in the compartment ahead of the shifter. When you move the shifter toward part, electronic controls activate the transmission to go into park, the doors unlock, and the shift indicator light reports park.but,,,,, the shifter is actually in the mechanical park detent.the shifter needs to travel nearly an additional 2 inches to reach the lock in detent.if it is blocked by an item in the storage area, it will not lock.in this event, the shifter can be pulled back into reverse without the driver present.i took the car to jim glover chev in tulsa. The service writer duplicated the problem and was prepared to document it but reneged after talkig to management. Kelsey chev in lawrenceburn, ind. Has it now, cant fix it.the electronic portion of the park process needs to be sinked w

The vehicle continuously stalls out at any speed the only way to get power back is by putting the car in low gear and then back into drive.
Car says service high power charging system, checked the coolant levels and they are low. Car refuses to charge now since the warning, even though i added coolant to the reservoirs.
2012 volt charger has burned my outlet, and my melted it and it has been replaced twice.my seat belt buckle has broken.
When unoccupied, the driver information display shows "check airbag" and the red indicator on the drivers display indicates that the passenger airbag is disabled.this problem has gone from intermittent to consistent over the past year.
Air bag sensor inside the seat started failing intermittently.over 6 months it went from going off and back on once a trip, to multiple times in a trip.then full on failed.appears to be a common issue based on discussions here: https://gm-volt.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-306433.html

While driving the airbag light came on for the passenger airbag.it would come on and go off even while someone was sitting in the seat the airbag would just turn off and then turn back on.
Intermittent passenger side airbag warning light illumination. The warning light comes on when very light items are placed on the seat and when a passenger is present.
Airbag light coming on intermittently took car to chevrolet dealer and was told it was a bad sensor in the passenger seat and the cost would be 900 dollars for part and labor.
The check airbag sensor comes on sporadically, and the car does not seem to recognize when someone is in the passenger seat. The estimated cost of the sensor repair is ~$900 even though the warning is not consistent. This happens while driving. As far as i can tell, there is no known cause.

The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. The contact was able to stop the vehicle eventually. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.

Unexpectedly, generally on uneven street/roadway, hillythe brakes do not immediately engage and will create a feeling that you many not be able to stop and/or steer, or keep the vehicle under control.after taking the automobileto a dealer about four times,it was determinedjuly 2014 that brakes needed to be replaced.the car was and still is under warranty. I believe that thebraking system is also covered under an extended electric car warranty.brakeproblems have continued intermittently; are auto safety issue.the last two times i have not reported to the dealer, or volt advisor.the dealer service advisorwas incorrect about how regenerative brakes work in electric car.the blind spot is excessive for backing up, and every volt should have had a back up camera as standard equipment, and bumpers that had crash test standards, but was not aware ofoptions when car was sold by dealer sent a few volts to sell. Aftermarketcamerahigh price, less desirable than factory installed. Taxcredit information should have been more clearly provided (including the tax form provided by dealers and bosch's partnership with general motors for 240 voltec charger).dealeradvertising needed to be accurate and transparent.due to uninformed. Or politically conservative cpa & broker (2 individuals),did not receive a federal tax credit for purchase of volt or installation of240 volt charging system.icould have easily qualified for the tax credit, which cpafailed to adequately and accurately advise me for tax planning.i have loved the volt.however, without the anticipated tax credit, past and ongoing braking issues, blind spot problems, large price drop in value of the car (whichhad similar prices for2011, 2012, or 2013 models when i bought my car.the tax credit exists to encourageelectric cars, not to play a game of "gotcha."
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. After starting the vehicle, the brake pedal malfunctioned and was very difficult to depress. In addition, the brake sensor remained illuminated. While driving, the braking distance was extended due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to davidson chevrolet (5871 rome tyaberg rd, rome, ny) where it was diagnosed that theelectronic brake control module and brake valve malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and the contact was informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v271000(service brakes). The contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 98,000.
This car relies on regenerative braking when the brakes are first applied.regenerative braking is only applied to the front wheels.when a wheel loses traction, regen braking switches off completely and immediately, and friction brakes take over.the problem is that there is a delay from regen braking switching off to the friction brakes activating. This delay causes the car's braking distance to increase by a considerable amount, 5-10ft in my perception.this usually happens on wet or snowy roads.the car should really attempt to keep the perceived braking force constant by applying the friction brakes to compensate for the regen switching off and then activate the friction brakes and abs, as needed, to limit wheel lock. This would make the experience a normal abs activation event, which drivers of any modern car should be used to.
This is the second time i have had an issue with the brakes on my chevrolet volt not working.the issue was first reported 2 weeks ago. The worked on the car and now the same issue started gain. This was a very scary incident.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. On several occasions, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the regenerative brake bearing. While the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to stop. As a result, the contact had to wait for the brake pedal to return to normal position to stop the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 62,000.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. While driving approximately 20 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal to the floorboard, but the vehicle failed to stop. The contact had to shift the gear into park in order to stop the vehicle. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, powered off and restarted the engine, and was able to drive. The vehicle was taken to south-pat o'brien chevrolet (3880 pearl rd, medina, oh 44256, (330) 460-0718) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster hydraulic and master cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.

The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to nhtsa campaign number: 13v271000 (electronic stability control, service brakes); however, the vin was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided case number:the approximate failure mileage was 120,000. On 5-21-14 i was driving 25 mph when i had to do an panic stop to avoid another car. At this point the car lost all power and my brakes went to floor. I missed hitting the other car by inches. Once i restarted the volt it came up with a dash warning to "service brakes". I drove about 20 mph for 1 mile to find a safe place to pull over and park. All the while testing my brakes and they were very mushy. Once i pulled over and stopped another warning message came up on dash saying "abs failure". I called aaa and had car taken to dealership.it has now been at dealership for 21 days and still counting without even one update from dealership. Once at dealership the car acted normal as if nothing was wrong.
Anytime the vehicle goes over bump, pothole, or particularly rough road surface at the same time that the brake pedal is depressed, the brakes do not engage and the vehicle fails to slow down. You must release the pedal and apply pressure a second time in order to stop. This occurs when the vehicle is in motion at any speed.
Radiator leak
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. While driving at various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 1,300.
2012 chevrolet volt.consumer writes in regards to brake failure and vehicle acceleration issues.the consumer stated his wife had an accident. She stated the vehicle accelerated on its own, and applying the brake did not stop the vehicle. She was trying to park doing between 8-10 mph, when the incident occurred. His wife damaged two other vehicles, and her vehicle was totaled. When the consumer arrived on the scene, he stepped on the brake pedal, and it went to the floor and a dash light on the instrument panel read booster brake needs service.
The contact owns a 2012 chevrolet volt. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the power steering system malfunctioned. The contact stated that the failure could have been caused by driving over a rumble strip on the highway. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer however, the dealer was unable to determine why the power steering system failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 4,500.
Driving in mountains and hit rumble strip on highway and electric power steering went out. After stopping, power steering returned to normal.fortunately, i was on a straight stretch of road and could control the car. Took it to dealer and they could find no reason for the failure.the problem has not recurred in the six months since.
I have reported this to the dealer several times. When you stop and park for a short period, like at a convenience store, shut down the car and go in. When you come back out, 5 to 10 mins later and go to leave as soon as you begin to move in the car it pulls hard to the left. I mean the steering wheel turns left very hard. If your hand is not on the wheel or you are not paying attention you could have a serious accident. I took my car to the dealer and they claimed to have corrected the problem. One week later it's doing the same thing. This seems like a systematic problem. I hope someone looks into this.
8/24/12 power steering failed 2x. First time for about 2min. Second time on 8/26/12 for 15 to 20 secondsalmost hit a car in next lane while turning on 8/24.
The hatch fell down once i had it up and leaned into the vehicle.this has injured my back and i am now feeling tingling in my left arm and leg.i had this problem before where the hatch fell once lifted and it was repaired.the dealer said they replaced the support struts.this seems to happen in colder weather.
Wheels:original equipment tire with 5/32 tread, about 58,000 miles, noticed reduced tire pressure 3/15/16, filled tire; filled again 3/18/16 twice, about an hour apart, became totally flat.side of tire, two repair facilties indicate it can not be repaired.have rest of original equipment tires on car, were very recently rotated, and tire pressure checked before 3/15/16.thought it may have been vandalized, dealer in middleton says it was not. All tires on care are original equipment. Loss of tire pressure began while stationery, filled tire, but did not hold air whether in motion, being driven on highway or city street.is at a dealership in middleton, wi now. I purchased the 2012 volt in 2/2013, never titled, from a dealer in elk city, ok after much research.in reading about volt, there was no information about a back up camera.the car really needs a back up camera; i have hit another car parked on my own driveway while backing out, and in january 2016 i hit a moving suv at best buy parking lot, delafield, wi.person driving his car said he did not look for back up lights for break lights, i had checked to see if car may be approaching and did not see suv.i filed with the dot, wi, since it was likely if police were called it would be stated it was a private lot.i have also had my car towed, the black rubber front that is flexible is easily damaged, and especially by a tow truck but can be easily damaged in winter with snow/ice, or generally in parking lots if there are concrete guides to stop car when pulling into spot.
This is the second goodyear assurance fuel max 94v tire that came on my 2012 volt that failed in the same driver front mounted position. See nhtsa id # 10706538 date reported 4/19/15. This incident happened this morning, in the driveway. When i started the care, pressure was reported at 26 psi, down from 37 psi when the car was parked two days ago. Taking the car for check to the corner exxon station, the mechanic checking the tire saw that the sidewall had a crack and mentioned this was a tire defect. He inflated the tire to 38 psi so i could drive the car to the dealer since it was thought that the dealer service department would be the appropriate place to possibly document the tire problem and have it replaced. The tire lost 5 psi on the 3 mile drive and i was told by the service manager that i must have hit something, or driven with the tire underinflated; that if there was something wrong with the tire, there would have been a recall. He mentioned had never seen another volt with a defective tire.however, in 45+ years driving, i've never had this experience with a tire, knowing the tire had never been underinflated - 34 psi has been the record lowest - (since i monitor the tire pressures). The tire was one of the original tires on the car and the second one failing in the same way. This time, i was not on a highway, the leak started while parked in the driveway and the sidewall crack was apparent in the exxon station.
2012 checy volt - experiencing issues with shifter. On multiple occasions i will shift my volt into park but system doesn't recognize it. I try and turn off vehicle and system shows "shift into park" on screen and vehicle can not be turned off causing vehicle to run continuously and kill both 12 volt battery and drive battery.
The information display has gone black.the information display shows speed, mileage, fuel level, turn blinker status, and other critical information.the screen brightness adjustment does not affect the display and is not the problem.the issue continues whether the vehicle is in motion or stationary, on city streets or highway, turning, or braking.i do not know the root cause of the issue but it appears to involve onboard computer components.the vehicle has not been in an accident nor damaged in any way.
On 8/23/17, my car popped up the message "service high voltage charging system" on my dashboard display while i was stationary with the car on.upon researching the problem online, i noticed in the gm forums that the problem was due to an incorrect amount of fluid in the reservoir surrounding the battery.service campaign #14114 (ress battery coolant level low) was generated by gm for 2012 & 2013 chevrolet volts, but my vin for my 2012 chevrolet volt was not included.i explained to gm (corporate) and keller motors that this is a well-documented problem and that the fix was to add battery coolant, but i got the same run-around answer that my vin was not included in the service campaign / recall.keller motors in hanford, ca was finally able to take a look at my vehicle on 8/29/17 and found the problem to be exactly as noted in the service recall.there were no leaks. The coolant was $13.13.the labor was $119.50.that's absurd -- i can pour in coolant myself!what i can't do is clear out the error codes that were popping up on my car that was preventing me from charging it and using the electric battery.i really feel that my car was missed in gm's service campaign # 14114, and feel like i should reimbursed by them for my out of pocket expense.a copy of my paperwork from keller motors detailing the problem is attached to this complaint.furthermore, i was assigned case # 8-3209935105, and a woman by the name of jasmine from gm (when i initially called corporate about this problem), but she never did follow up with either myself or keller motors on this problem by the time i picked up my car on 8/29/17 and had to pay the bill to release my car.
Driver's instrument cluster screen flickers and then goes blank while driving/in motion on a city road and on the highway.driver loses all indication of speed, turn signals, lighting, speedometer, cruise control, fuel level, charge level, and all other critical information that is displayed on the driver screen.
2012 chevrolet volt charging station has burned the outlet in my garage three times. Each time i hired an electrician to replace burned outlet and verify it is wired properly. Whatever the malfunction is, it does not trip the gfci.this is a fire hazard. Attached are some of the pictures i submitted to gm pac which denied my claim.
It all started on december 16th 2015, i had bought the car certified pre-owned with 12k miles on it. The car has been plagued with issues since day one.. The issues range from little electrical issues, to major safety concerns, all of which taking months to repair. The first issues were issues where the key fob could not be found, the car would not recognize the keys when you got in and at times you could not turn off the car. They replaced the keys over a dozen times, and replaced the central computer twice. Shortly after this the steering column failed, this happened three times, where i could not steer the car, or the worm gear randomly would miss teeth.. They replaced the column, worm gear, and rack each time. There are also issues with the charge port door not releasing, as well as a few times where the charge port shorted out my house, and charging unit requiring both the port and the charger itself to be replaced. Next was a broken exhaust manifold, where the car would leak exhaust into the car through the heat vents, they replaced the manifold, and full exhaust eventually due to random leaks in the exhaust.. Next was mpg, once the weather got cold i am unable to get better than 12mpg, which gm indicates is normal.. The epa sticker indicated 30mpg city, i am getting between 9 and 12, gm will not remedy this issue, indicating it is normal.. Next was the catalytic converter, which gm indicated due to the new exhaust that the old cat was broken in the process.. Next was airbags, the system in the car would not pickup the passenger in the car and would at random turn off the passenger air bag.. Apparently there is a software update to fix this issue. Next was the brakes, which started sticking, which they indicate since there is no code they can't fix them, i adjusted the cable myself and resolved the issue. I have all the records and will gladly send them to nhtsa
2012 volt charger has burned my outlet, and my melted it and it has been replaced twice.my seat belt buckle has broken.
Failure of the electric vehicle supply equipment (evse) has occurred for the second time since vehicle purchase in january 2013. Numerous reports of other customers experiencing this issue with the oem supplied evse.
Charger no longer working
The instrument cluster has gone completely blank in the car. It went in and off for two days and then died completely.this is a major hazard as i dont know how fast i am going or the gas amount i have in the car. This was a major problem as i was driving the car when this happen not knowing if the entire car was going to black out very scary moment.
The speed control would stick on during very cold weather.this happened at least twice to my wife.she rode the brake to slow it down but the car kept fighting the brake.this was city driving, in appleton, wi.
The contact stated that while driving and attempting to accelerate there wasa loud abnormal noise. The bill roberts chevrolet buick, inc dealer located at 301 w broadway st, bolivar, mo 65613 stated that they were not able to repair the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was also contacted and was unable to provide any further assistance. The failure mileage was 109,000.
