The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext. While the contact was driving approximately 45 mph, both the driver and passenger side air bags deployed without impact. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where both air bags were being replaced. The mechanic was unable to determine the cause of failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the malfunction. The approximate failure mileage was 154,654.
"takata recall" i was recently in a car accident that was listed in the police report as a head on collision and not one airbag deployed. The impact as i was told was hard enough that the airbags should have deployed.
Hit a deer at 70 mph on i-70 in kansas. I hit it full force with the front end. Half of the deer went over, half the deer went under. Nothing left but guts. Front end on driver side depressed about a foot. Wife and i received whip lash, wife is worse. Baby was okay. The trailblazers front end was totaled. Airbags did not come out. Gm stated that in order for the air bags to work in this model is the brakes have to be depressed 1/20th of a second prior to impact. This is hog wash. Brakes have nothing to do with the airbags. I do not care about the vehicle, my concerns are the safety features of this vehicle.
Instrumental panel/ gage cluster. All gages continue to fail spiking all over the place prior to failing. Air bag light continues to blink on then off randomly
When hadthe crash which was very hard loud and scary the air bags didn't deploy nor did the air bags on the side of seat. The crash was very serious and the electrical system and powertrain to windows.
The consumer lost control of the vehicle at 60 mph, going into a ditch, the seat belt did not secure the consumer, and the air bag did not deploy. *sc
The speedometer started to malfunction while driving 40 mph north bound on davis blvd.the speedometer was reading 80 mph then when stopped it was still reading 80 mph.it then moved past the gauge not allowing to know my actual speed.this to me is a car safety issue because we never know how fast we are going.the gas gauge has been malfunctioning for more that 24 months.the caution light (yellow) turns on when you need to fill the tank so we have been using this light to fill the car with gas.the gauge needs to be repaired.since the car is not abused we fill this is something which should have lasted the regular 100,000 miles before there was a problem.the warranty period is over.from talking to other users and repeated searches online it seem to be a regular failure item.i believe it should be repaired by general motors corporation.many drivers have had to spend lots of money to have this item fixed in less than average mean times between failure of (100,000 miles).
2004 chevy trailblazer speedometer and gauges started working erratically around summer 2009. Speedo and gauges stick or peg out daily. Gm does not recognize this as their problem yet there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of blogs on the internet of this same problem.
As i have seen from other owners of the same gm product, while driving down the road my speedometer doesn't work right. Is always registering at a very high speed, sometimes even pegging down where your gears are located. Costs to repair is $600-$700 and 5-7 days of down time as the part must be sent away and repaired. Like other consumers i can not afford this costly repair. I would think after the numerous complaints gm would repair. Personally, i'm considering foreignnext time. At least they own up to their mistakes and repair at no cost to the consumer.
I own a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext. Took the vehicle in october 2009 for a oil change & a exhaust leak was told the exhaust manifold needed to be replaced, after searching on the internet found out it is a known problem that gm when manufacturing the vehicle used bolts that were to longtherefore the exhaust manifold wasn't properly torque/tightened which made the manifold vibrate until it broke and prior to its breaking it leaked the manifold becomes loose and that leads to it cracking. After having the vehicle repaired at the cost of $319.50 & having it back for a month & driving it 3 times my speedometer went haywire registering a sitting still speed of 45 mph. Once again looked on the internet and found numerous complaints about the instrument panel cluster they have issued recalls for the chevy trucks and yukon gmc for the same issue but no recall so far about the trailblazer. This repair will cost me $516.33, both of these repairs are due to faulty manufacturing & should be listed as a recall. I just hope that none of the other issues i have read about becomes a concern for me.
The odometer and rpm gauge stop functioning. While you are driving the odometer stops below the zero and stays stuck, it will stop at 50 and stay there, it will stop on 120 and stay there. The odometer gauge sometimes will stop below the 120 right above the digital mileage gauge.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext.while stopped at a traffic light, the contact noticed that the speedometer displayed 50 mph.the speedometer became inoperable and would often become stuck at zero.in addition, the speedometer would often display 100 mph when the contact was driving less than 50 mph.themanufacturer and dealer could not provide any assistance.the failure mileage was 66,000 and current mileage was less than 73,000.
Vehicle was being driven when all dash gauges failed.particularly concerning was the failure of the speedometer.gm has admitted that other vehicles have had this problem and have paid for and installed replacement dash clusters on some models.the 2004 trailblazer is not covered as there has not been enough occurrences of instrument cluster failure reported.
2004 chevrolet trailblazer speedometer and fuel gauge are unreliable.speedometer sometimes seems to work but is no accurate when it does show a speed.fuel gauge moves but is usually the needle is not even in the normal area ie. Between e and f.there are numerous complaints online, but gm has not issued a recall.this is a prevalent problem that gm should resolve at no cost to the owners.
On november 26 2007 took my chevy trailblazer 04 4 wheel dr. In for steering wheel shimmy. Could not duplicate. Also c.d. Changer will not eject cd's andlow beams on headlights not working. Repaired headlights and c.d. Changer.did not fix steering problem. On june 07 took in for major service with 33,000 miles. On dec.8 2008 took in for stalling when coming to a stop. Could not duplicate the problem.this is my main complaint, the stalling on jan.. 10 2009 took in for erratic speedometer which was happening for about 3 months off and on.rebuilt the speedometer. On june 11 2009 took car in for stalling, ses lamp comes on when driving and hvac fan does not blow on the #5 position. There is alot of grinding and whining when vehicle shifts to second gear. And turning at low speeds there is a whining coming from the front end. Removed and replaced 02 sensor.for the stalling they could not verify concern. Recommended throttle body de-carb and injection system cleaning. For the #5 fan not working removed and replaced speed control resistor. Transmission they could not feel any unusual shifting.for the steering prob.replaced power steering pump and power steering gear. Car still stalling on 6-19 -09. Took in. Did another decarb service and replace fuel filter.still stalls.7-01-09 when car starts there is a loud clutch fan noise like a jet taking off. Feels like the trans is overworking, veryloud not right. Fix,was fancontrol set im properly trouble code p0483 . Bulletin 05-06-02-004 reprogram pcm. Claim code1013b.july 8 took car for stalling issuejuly 9 took car for stalling issuejuly 10 took car for stalling issues no paper work for these3 daysthey were trying to recreate the stalling issue.july 20 2009 in shop for 16 days for stalling issue they finally confirmed .replaced pcm. They called in tech assistance case #10971267 he said to perform top engine cleaning. Outcome is cannot guarantee repairs at this time due to how random this prob occurs.
The speedometer, oil pressure gauge, and tachometer have stopped working on my 04 trailblazer. Only have 64,000 miles on it. Have talked to mechanics about replacing. Told it would cost between $400 and $800 to replace but may not fix the problem in the long term--many times replaced clusters have the same problem. Look at the internet and you will see thatmany people are having the same problem.
My chevy trailblazer displayed a service engine light and 4 wheel drive service light a few days ago.got it to the dealer.they stated the thermostat and 4 wheel drive switch needed replaced. ($550.00).the day this was replaced, i drove it home and tested the 4 wheel drive switch.as soon as i pressed on the gas in 4 wheel drive, the tach shot to 5000.it displayed 5000 for the rest of the day (even while idling).the next day, the tach stopped working all together.dealer won't take responsibility for any error or reasoning to why it quit working.just a coincidence?????
I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer with a malfunctioning dash. The rpm gauge does not work, speedometer bounces back and forth only working once in a while, gas gauge quite working last week so i am judging by how many miles i travel. The mileage has not stopped functioning yet.i feel that this is not a safe manner to operate this vehicle bu it is my only mode of transportation .i understand that there are several complaints online about this very same problem. Chevy should be help accountable and recall/fix this issue.*tw
I also just had to replace the cluster for my instrument panel in my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer.i find it very interesting, the number of cars that are having the same failure as i have had at approximately the same time.
2004 trailblazer - allgauges don't work or max. Out; speed gauge and gas gauge quit working. Started at about 55,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext.the contact stated that the speedometer becomes stuck at 20 mph.in addition, the speedometer displays 40 mph when he is driving 60 mph and vice versa.once the vehicle is shut off and restarted, the speedometer fails completely.the failure has been occurring for three weeks.the mechanic stated that the speedometer cluster needed to be replaced; however, the contact feels that the repair should be covered by the manufacturer because the failure is not due to driver error.the current and failure mileages were 66,000.
The speedometer has been failing consistently. Several occasions it fails to return to zero, registering 100mph when gps shows 35mph. After several days, it will start working normally - then fault again. Miles driven on the odometer does not appear to be affected.the condition is starting to spread to other gauges, with the tachometer showing several similar symptoms.
Fuel gauge stays on empty and oil temperature gauge stays at 260 degrees. The speedometer sticks and resets incorrectly at random intervals.
There have not been any accidents or injuries yet, that i know of. There have, however, been many complaints that i have seen for the same problem i am having and chevy does not care. The speedometer and other gauges on my 2004 trailblazer do not work correctly, the speedometer can read 0-120 when at a complete stop. Therefore we never know how fast we are going and with children in the vehicle this is very disturbing. Besides the gauges the wires for the headlights keep burning. I was told when i had the first one fixed that it is very common in these vehicles. The fact that both of these problems areso common with many chevy vehicles and they are recalling some and not all, i guess i just want to know why not all?
The speedometer and battery guage will not work.the speedometer shows over 100 mph when you are not moving.called the dealership and they said they get calls everyday on this problem, but gm does not have a recall on the trailblazer only onthe pickup trucks.
Instrument cluster panel issue with tachometer actually exceeding 7000rpm while vehicle is idling.i did a quick search online and found that there have been many complaints about the cluster panel malfunctioning.it was recommended that i file via nhtsa to see what may be able to be done or if there was already a formal recall on this particular defect.i have tried removing the cluster panel fuse from the fuse box then starting vehicle then turning vehicle off and replacing the fuse to recalibrate it.my understanding from the research is that the stepper motors used in the panel are faulty.
All gauges are randomly failing, but even when working they do not read properly.the speedometer will read all over the place and not move and then at times appear to work, but thanks to a gps in the car i noticed it was showing 10 to 20 mph off on the low side.
My 2004 chevy trailblazer has multiple lights on -brakes, airbag, battery, service engine soon. All the gauges on the right-oil, gas, battery are below the red line as if the car is off. The car locked itself with the keys in it while it was turned off-had to call emergency road service to unlock.the mechanic states all the lights that are on are actually functioning and that the dashboard cluster module is causing the problem.this is a major safety issue and it appears multiple people have had the same type problem with trailblazers-why hasn't there been a recall re: this issue?
We were traveling for the holidays and noticed that the rpm gauge stopped functioning properly.it was pointing below zero.then, last week the problem spread to the gas gauge and the oil pressure gauge.this is a potential safety hazard.
Full destruction because of fire i was on the way back from a long trip in southern chile (up to ushuaia) over the "carretera austral" and, after about 9'000 km drive without any problem, i saw a white smoke back my vehicle. Oil pressure: normal, motor temperature: normal. This meant immediate stop along the "ruta 40 norte" in argentina (about 100 km north of bariloche, on the way to neuqu). While stopping, i felt the brake pedal just going without immediate reaction but the pression came back. While bringing the gear shift to position parking, i did not feel any sensation, as if it would have no connection; the automatic door blocker connected to the gear shift did not work too, so that we had to unlock the doors manually. After having disconnected the engine, i saw white smoke coming out from the upper left corner of the motor. I opened the capot and the smoke came from the left corner (close to the driver's place). Suddenly, some material in flames fell to the bottom, about middle light left of the car. I tried to put out the flames with the extinguisher, but other burning material fell. Other people had stopped and helped me. We pushed the car a little ahead - though the hand brake was tied and the gear shift on "p", but burning material fell again. In the meantime, my wife and children throw out the luggage, so that we could save almost all of it. But the car burned entirely.what could be the reason of this incident ?thanks god, i stopped immediately so that nobody was injured nor burned and no third party suffered any damage.
All gauges fluctuate constantly or stop working at times.you never know how fast you are going or if the car has appropriate fluids.this is a very dangerous situation and i have found via the internet there have been numerous complaints about this issue.there is definitely some type of electrical problem with this vehicle.
I have a 2004 chevy extended trailblazer with 84,000 miles.my speedometer is stuck at 90 mph.i understand it is not a recall issue and this is not covered under my warranty. It will be approximately $500 to fix a safety issue.i don't feel this is fair.it should be a recall.it is a safety issue when you don't know what rate of speed you are traveling. I understand from discussion boards in the internet that this is a very common chevy trailblazer problem.i have not yet had it fixed as i cannot afford it at this time.my car was just in a few weeks ago for a cost of over $300 for a thermostat.tw*
Rpm's and speedometer to not read correctly.
Speedometer has completely stopped working.started out intermittent.
The instrument cluster stopped working, only the temp gauge and the fuel gauge works. The speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure gauges do not work. I believe general motors needs to issue a recall on this as this is a common problem with these vehicles.
I own a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer north face/ext. The speedometer has been giving me problems for some time. At first it would malfunction from time to time. Now the fuel gauge has stopped all together. When i started investigating this problem i found out that it is a common problem with this make and model vehicle. I also found out that chevrolet has another vehicle, "chevy tahoe", that has had the same problem. Why there is a recall to fix the tahoe and not the trailblazer ext. Is very interesting to me. I have gone as far as to take a look at the tahoe instrument cluster and saw that they are very alike. The vehicle recall to replace the instrument cluster on these vehicles should be sent out asap. If you take a look at the complaints on the internet you will see that this is a problem that many trailblazer owners seem to be having.you will also see that the tahoe complaints, "for which there is a recall",are identical.thank you;patrick
Automatic transmission shifted out of third and would not shift back while i was on the freeway.dealer said a transmission flush and fluid change would fix it.after performing flush dealer transmission was shot and needed replacement.instrument cluster functioning intermittently, speedometer works at first and then slowly goes down to zero.
Speedometer freezes and you can't tell how fast you are going.happens quite often.brought it in, but they were unable to diagnose the problem as it wasn't happening at the time.
The headlights intermittently will not work (lowbeam only). It happens at night many times and i will have to drive with the bright lights or fog lights. Sometimes the entire dash lighting will go out as well including the speedometer. It's almost as if the electrical portion of the ignition has failed. It has been happening intermittently for about a year.
I own a 2004 trailblazer ext and a couple of months ago therpm gauge stopped functioning and doesn't even register.less than a month later the speedometer started malfunctioning and many times doesn't even register a speed while driving for several hours.this has been a daily occurrence every time my wife and family get in the vehicle.this is a serious safety hazard for my family and for anyone else we may pass on the road.i know from reading multiple other complaints across the internet that this is not an isolated issue and that gm has already recalled the console cluster on several other models having the same or similar issues.when are they going to be held responsible for also recalling the same problem on this vehicle make?
2004 chevy trailblazer.intermittent engine stalling since new. Many service visits to chevy dealers to fix, however mechanics stumped.local gas station mechanic found the problem having to do with components in the emission control / vapor recovery system.now chevy needs to figure out the cure.in the meantime i get to drive around with the "check engine" light on.i guess this is better than being crashed because my car stalled in an intersection or on the highway.chevy mechanics and engineers need to get the "duh" award.very bad customer service and diagnostics performed by chevy.i would still like to have the check engine light to go off, and have the engine not stall if that is possible.please send info to have this done if possible.
All gauges on control panel not working, but all service lights come on check engine, abs seat belt, reduce power, battery lights. Speed and fuel are impossible to know as well as warnings to observe from lights.2004 chevrolet trailblazer, speedometer will show a faster speed than you moving or will go to 0 while on the freeway. The tach has the same problem. This is a serious safety issue and it should be recalled now. I heard that they had the same issue on pick-ups and they were recalled.most instrument backlights have burned out preventing the speedometer and other gauges from being seen at night. Very dangerous. Quick search on internet results in a severe epidemic of this problem with all gm suv's. A class action lawsuit resulted in a nationwide recall for this problem for all similar vehicles but not the chevy trailblazer or gmc envoy. This seems to be a criminal act by gm. Something needs to be done to protect owners of these vehicles.driving down highway headlights go out..while driving at night the low beam lights went out, i had to drive home with high beams on,http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2004/chevrolet/trailblazer/electrical+systemcheck out all these other complaints there are hundreds of them and i am one of many.this is so dangerous and a safety hazard to others as well, please get us a recall on these cars the expenses are tremendous.
1. Fuel tank failure, with gas smell after fill up. 2. Speedometer stopped working 3. Temperature gage stopped working
My speedometer on my 2004 trailblazer doesn't record the exact speed.
This vehicle had beenparked in the driveway from 7:45 pm, (august 10, 2011).i was awakened at approx. 3:55 am on 8-10-2011by hearing a muffled boom. At 4:00 am (aug. 11, 2011) i heard a loud bang type noise.i immediately got up andwent to investigate. I went outside and found my 2004 trailblazer (ext) on fire from the engine bay and just beginning to flame inside the vehicle's passenger compartment at the dashboard..it only took minutes before the vehicle was fully involved.the fire began in the engine bay. The fire marshall report is still pending and i was informed it would take 6 to 8 weeks before it was available. Approx. Two to three months prior, i took the vehicle to a repair garage to fix the low beam headlights (they had failed and changing the bulbs was no help. It turned out that it was a failed relay, which was replaced. It was a couple of weeks later that i had to replace the vehicle's battery as it had gone dead and would not take a charge. The old battery was about three years old. There were no other battery/headlight issues after these repairs. No tools or other parts were dropped into the engine bay, or left in the bay. I was an aircraft mechanic and old habits of keeping rack of my tools never die and all tools used were accounted for. The roads were dry where it was driven there was no rain at the house all night. I reported this to chevrolet that day. As a result of the fire, the eaves of the house over the garage caught fire, my wife, son and myself had minor carbon monoxide poisoning, my work truck was damaged by the heat of the fire, so i cannot work (self employed) until i get a replacement (no rental company will let me use a truck to work from as i need to carry large quantities of chlorine in my pressure cleaning business. There have been no other problems of this kind before with this vehicle.
Instrument cluster my 2004 chevy trailblazer has been acting erratic or not at all on some of the gauges. I've read that it is a very common problem and some have been recalled but not all.
Total failure of entire gauge cluster around 54000 miles 600 dollar repair was told that it shorted out and melted the connectors.
On february 7, 2009, we were driving on the interstate.when approaching traffic i took the vehicle off of cruise and began to slow down.however, the speedometer did not move.after that, everytime i began to accelerate, the speedometer would not move.everytime i start the car it drops 5 mph, but when you use cruise or do a constant speed, it sticks again.we are getting ready to go on a big family vacation and do not feel safe taking my family in a vehicle that you don't know how fast you are going.my mechanic is replacing the cluster with a used one from the local salvage yard.a used one with labor is still going to cost me $200 and who knows how long that one will last.i cannot believe with this many complaints about the same equipment failure that gm hasn't done anything.it's just not safe!
Yesterday my dashboard control panel worked great.this morning (4/18/09) as i was driving to my bank, i noticed that none of the gauges and/or lights were working ( oil gauge, temperature gauge, battery gauge, speedometer, tachometer, etc).major safety factor.
I have many electrical issues with my 04 trailblazer from my window lights on the drivers door and the passenger door. I have had my radio replaced because it melted one of my cds. My head lights work when they feel like it same with the rear wiper. It has stalled out in traffic on me. I have also heard that in most 2000 to 2006 trailblazers the reason for the electrical problems is because water is running down the passenger side door into the dash and hitting one of the main wiring harnesses causing it to have many electrical issues. I heard this from someone who has an 06 trailblazer that just had it a replaced for $700.00 to fix and was told that it will just have to be replaced in a few more years because they cant fix the problem.
We were doing our normal fill-up (truck was off) and after we filled it up & turned it over, the fuel gauge shot way over the 'full' mark.every time we turned the vehicle on, the fuel gauge was reading differently, i have no idea how many times it was right.the oil pressure and battery charge gauge have also been giving false/sporadic readings as well.after much searching, i found the root cause of this to be a very common problem not only in the trailblazers but the tahoes and several other of their vehicles (the instrument clusters are faulty).given the expansive nature of this issue, and the potential dangers of not knowing your speed, fuel level, oil pressure or rpms, i'm having problems seeing why this isn't a recall already.it seems to happen more in the 2003-2006 models more than others from what i've found as well.
Electrical - all gauges are not working and the speedometer quits working while driving.
The speedometer has become erratic and will not show how fast we are driving, causing an unsafe condition. Based on the number of posts on several forums, this appears to be a very common problem, and with time may become universal.
(speedometer cluster problems) it seems to be a big prob with chevy trucks & suvs.my vehicle speedometer cluster is no working, gm is refusing to recall the 2004 tb.
We currently own three chevrolet trailblazers - 2004, 2005, 2006. On each on the three trailblazers, the dashboard instruments have failed, including the speedometer, oil pressure gage, fuel gage, and engine rpm instrument. The driver no longer has the ability to verify how fast the vehicle is traveling, or potential problems with the engine, or the remaining fuel in the gas tank. In taking the vehicles to the dealer, they insist that it will be a significant repair requiring diagnosis and removal of the entire dashboard cluster and estimate the costs to be well over $1500 for the repair.since the same problem has occurred on all three of our currently owned trailblazers, this suggests a manufacturers defect with the entire dashboard cluster.
The speedometer has been giving me problems for some time. At first it would malfunction from time to time at approximately 89,000. Now the speedometer has stopped all together. When i started investigating this problem i found out that chevrolet has another vehicle, "chevy tahoe", that has had the same problem. Why there is a recall to fix the tahoe and not the trailblazers? definite "defect trend" that should result in a recall. I don't have the $600+ to fix so must continue to drive with my young children in it. A very unsafe situation for me and the others on the road! waiting for the whole instrument panel to fail as others say happens next!
My check engine light started coming on and staying on; then my oil gauge started going wacky, from one end to the other; next, my gas gauge wasn't reading correctly and i had to keep putting gas in the car just to make sure i didn't run out because you couldn't trust the gauge.the gauges often correct themselves out of the blue and then they start messing up again with no warning.today, my speedometer read 0 while i was driving about 40 mph.it stayed at 0 until i stopped at a traffic light.when i took off, it went up to about 45 when i was only going about 25-30.i have no idea how fast i am really going, which is scary and dangerous.i am also very frazzled by all the gauges reading different every day when i am driving 40 miles back and forth to work wondering if and when my car is going to break down on the highway or in heavy traffic.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext. The contact stated that the entire instrument panel failed to operate. In addition, the speedometer, tachometer, and fuel gauge failed to function properly. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the instrument panel cluster would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000. The vin was unavailable.
I have a 2004 trailblazer i purchased in2007 for mywife. After about a year the speedometer is not working at all.after a little research, how found out many people are having the same problem.i believe chevy should recall the instrument panel.
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer extended suv.my check engine light has continuously flash on and off since having the truck only six months.it has continued to do this for the life of the car at almost 70,000 miles.also, my speedometer now works only when it wants to.at first we thought it was because of the cold weather, now it is almost 70 degrees and we have the same problem.sounds as if this if very common in these models.someone needs to find a way to compensate owners for these costly repairs.
I own a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext. Took the vehicle in october 2009 for a oil change & a exhaust leak was told the exhaust manifold needed to be replaced, after searching on the internet found out it is a known problem that gm when manufacturing the vehicle used bolts that were to long making the manifold get to hot and therefore leads to it cracking.
The instrument gauges, including speedometer are producing erratic data, sometimes 25-30 mph fast or slow to the actual speed as tracked by a garmin gps, and milemarker calculations.the oil pressure and amp gauges are not working properly as well.
My speedometer and tach began reading high (90mph, 115mph - 6000rpms, 7000rpms) before both needles pointed straight down.if i turned off the car, they would reset themselves to 55mph and 5000rpms.i was on the beginning of a long road trip when this happened, so i was hoping i wasn't going to get pulled over for speeding.when i returned home i took my car in to be repaired and thankfully i was still under warranty.this problem also happened to my parents 2004 trailblazer.after seeing all of the complaints of the same issue, i feel that i shouldn't have had to pay my $100 deductible.this definitely sounds like a gm defect.if his ends up being a recall, could i get reimbursed??
The speedometer on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer frequently gets stuck or stops working, while driving.
The speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer ext operates incorrectly. The speed indicator sticks, goes over 120 miles an hour and stays there, and sometimes does not move at all. This is an everyday problem.
There has not been an accident yet, just one looking for a place to happen. My vehicle i believe has an electrical problem. Which in turn affect all functions of the vehicle, safety being one. I have had (2) fan switches go bad (2) crankshaft sensors go bad. (1) cruise control malfunction. (1) turn signal relay (1) radio console replaced for overheating (1) headlights when below 32 degrees flucuate in brightness till vehicle warms up. Dealer stated this is normal operation. Ha,ha, and transmission shifting problems (1)they reprogramed computer to solve, next some solinoid replaced and now the problem is back. I have a family of 6 that i have in the vehicle 90 % of time. I now have concerns that the wiring must have a short somewhere. Which potentially could cause a fire, or an accident due to what happens when the headlights go out or antilock brake system fails or taillights, etc. Gm refuses to replace wiring in vehicle. Gm rep told me to contact whoever i wanted to. They are not going to stand behind fixing the problem. Just keep replacing the electrical items as they go bad.
Instrument cluster goes crazy. No oil pressure/excessive oil pressure, no tach/pegged tach, speedometer gives false speed readings(this is really dangerous), battery reads low volts or off the scale volts/. This happens every day. Chevy dealers estimated repair cost $600-$700 dollars.
Instrument cluster failure starting with tachometer then speedometer.at 90,000 +/- miles always have intermittent / obviously wrong info from tachometer (usually past 7000) and speedometer (always reads <20 mph).
No previous problems with panel.problem occurs frequently.tachometer quit working correctly...goes completely to opposite end of gauge.took days before it went back to normal location.speedometer does not work correctly...continues to climb to higher end of gauge....reads above 30 even when standing still.goes down after repeatedly shutting off and restarting engine.whirring sound made when starting or stopping engine.contacted chevy dealer repair shop, they are fully aware of situation, advised it will get worse and will eventually stop working at all.no parts are serviceable, needs to be sent out for repair, could take anywhere from a day to a week or more depending on the parts needed.plus there is the additional cost of having it read by the computer for the correct part(s).my car will be inoperable soon according to dealer, unsafe to drive, situation needs immediate fix.
We are the owner of a 2004 chevy trailblazer.i would like to file 4 major concerns regarding our vehicle.the first i have brought to the attention of the chevy company. Our trailblazer was shutting off due to a bad seal somehow connected when the heat/air is running.the vehicle just shuts off and you lose complete control.we had an outside mechanic fix the problem. The second is the loss of our windshield front windshield wipers.they no longer work.the 3rd is the rear molding broke loose from water collecting and then freezing with no way of preventing this from happening.we lost this piece of molding while driving on the highway and it hit a semi truck.the 4th is a major electrical problem that has not be able to be diagnosed.each morning when starting the vehicle, the suv will act like the battery is dead and then start. I have had this vehicle in while under warranty and problem was not found.i am quite concerned with this vehicle.i am not sure if others have had these problems, but i would like to have them notated. We are currently on our 3rd battery since 2004.
Several times that i've been driving the trailblazer, the speedometer goes crazy and says that we are traveling at a much higher rate of speed than we are. Like if im going approx 70mph, it states we are going about 110mph! this is definitely a safety issue! and it has never been a recall?
On 02/05 /2010 i was going south on 165 to monroe, lait was about 8:00 at night, when the dashboard lights then the headlights just went out.this made me go into a panic.i did not know what to do because it was very dark.i did manage to pull over.thankfully there was a gas stationnear by.on 2/06/2010 i took to a chevy dealer and they told me that they have be seeing this problem for some time.but they close early on saturday so they could not fits it in one day.so i took to another repair shop and they told me they have seen this same problem 4 times in jan.so chevrolet has a problem that needs looking into.
Car felt "stuck" in gear, wouldn't accelerate, low on transmission fluid. Added more fluid, replaced speed sensor, camshaft & crankshaft sensors. Still having issues with rpms going high, car slamming from one gear into another. Also cannot run heat while driving, fan draws power & causes engine to stall out. Car also burning through gas very quickly.
I am complaining about a 2004 chevy trailblazer problem the speedometer is measuring incorrect speed or not working at all. I can be parked and it reads 60 mph i am driving it reads 120 mph. In speaking with several gm owners this is a problem with quite a few gm vehicles and is very dangerous. I think this should be looked into before someone gets hurt. It is very scary not to know what speed you are driving at. In speaking to several owners and looking at web sites of complaints this is a problem and has been one for a long time. I do not blame my dealer i blame chevrolet or gm whoever made the car there are so many complaints about this speedometer with other makes from gm, its not the dealers fault for this problem.
On our 2004 chevrolet trailblazer the only gauge that works all the time is the speedometer.most of the other gauges ' including the fuel gauge, tachometer, etc, ' don't work at all!the coolant temperature gauge works only sporadically. In addition, the dashboard warning lights also do not function properly:the airbag light, abs brakes light, and 'check engine' light unpredictably remain lit ' not always at the same time - sometimes for days at a time when the car is on.there is no pattern as to when the lights will stay on and when they will remain off.i am reporting these problems to you since i read that you are investigating this same problem in 2005 through 2007 trailblazers.i feel you should expand your research to include 2004 trailblazers.
While exiting my child school parking lot the engine shut down and went into limp mode.i was in the middle of a busy intersection, had to turn hazard lights on so i wasn't hit.could not go over 5 miles per hour.speedometer has intermittently gone haywire.instrument cluster failure.
The speedometer on my 2004 trailblazer works intermittently.this began in the fall of 2007.sometimes it works seemingly fine.it will then freeze on a speed. Sometimes it will register a speed that is obviously incorrect. For example it will register a variable speed that is 20 or more mph faster than we are traveling.it sometimes points straight down.then last week "out of the blue" it worked again for a few days.unfortunately, this only lasted a few days.i never know how fast i am going and try to stay in the flow of traffic. I asked the dealer about this and they did not mention any other problems with this and told me it would cost $500 to repair.this is a real safety issue.
2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext with 76,500 miles on it. While driving to work i noticed the oil pressure gauge was reading maximum. I immediately pulled over in the dark on a busy hwy to check oil and it was full. Then approx 2 weeks later the oil pressure gauge is pointing down and stays there. Now the speedometer is reading 80 mph even when stopped. This is a huge safety issue. I have serious doubts as to whether the gas and water temp gauge is reading correctly. There are numerous complaints already filed about this model and many other chevrolet models. Recalls have been made on some models for this problem, but not this one. Chevrolet needs to recall this model asap and correct the infamous problem that they are well aware of. This is a very costly repair and one that the consumer should not have to pay for.
Instrumental panel/ gage cluster. All gages continue to fail spiking all over the place prior to failing. Air bag light continues to blink on then off randomly
Check engine light - for over one year now, and 4 various mechanics, no once can figure out why my check engine light comes on.i have replaced two air sensors (actually 3 - one was bad)... I have spent close to $1,000 to get this fixed - but the dam light continues to go on (intermittently) sometimes it's on for a month - off a day - on two weeks - there is no pattern.the last time the light came on, my car began stalling in traffic and stop signs.last mechanic spent 5 hours tracing all the codes back - nothing.next day had another mechanic check codes and the engine running cool as well as a few others showed up.if no one can figure this out - where is the recourse.i feel like i am being scammed over and over.i stalled on rt. 24 slowing down in traffic - and was almost hit by a box truck because i just sat there.who can help direct me to a repair which will ultimately end this issue?now, the lights off this week (watch, now that i say this it will come back on).the only thing i notice is that many times the light turned off after i filled the tank.so, is there anyone out there who knows what's wrong (referring to mechanics who take us for a ride $$$)?i challenge anyone out there to figure this out.
The gauges on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer do not work.i had this same problem several months ago and took to dealership to fix, they said there was nothing wrong.now my warranty is out and they again are not working.it is not safe to drive when the speedometer, tachometer, oil gauge, and temperature gauges don't work.apparently this is a problem that many owners of the same model have reported and nothing has been done about it.this is a safety hazzard and should have a recall associated with it with chrevolet footing the bill.i guess it won't be addressed until deaths or injuries are associated with it.
The rpm gauge, battery gauge and the fuel gauge stopped working.first the rpm gauge stopped and then about a year later the battery gauge stopped and last was the fuel gauge that stopped.the fuel gauge stopped working just a couple of weeks after the battery gauge.i am also having problems with the daytime running lights not staying on periodically.the daytime running lights will go out about twice a year and mainly at night.
When hadthe crash which was very hard loud and scary the air bags didn't deploy nor did the air bags on the side of seat. The crash was very serious and the electrical system and powertrain to windows.
Speedometer started to act erratic at about 40k miles.now at 72k miles, does not work at all.i just spent $200 trying to repair, only to find out after that failed, that this is a common problem with gm.how can they justify recalling the tahoes, avalanches, etc, for the same problem, but leaving the trailblazers out of this safety recall?
The instrument cluster is erratic, speed show zero, tach is not working at all now, the oil pressure and volt meter is erratic. This is a unsafe driving condition not knowing if you are going at a unsafe speed or if you are doing damage to the motor with the oil pressure is so erratic.
Engine stalls at various times for no reason. Have had it into dealership many times.dealership has been unable to isolate problem.service engine soon light came on after first stall.dealership reset computer.since then, the engine has stalled at least 5 times.ses light has not come back on.engine usually restarts after approx 5 minutes.
Instrument panel gauges fluctuate, showing inaccurate readings. Speedometer sticks on one speed and also just fails consistently.
Each time i start my 2004 chevy trailblazer ext the "change engine oil" light comes on.after 15 seconds it turns off.on several occasions, my rpm will either go extremely high, traveling 30 and the rpm says i'm doing 90, or will go extremely low, going 30-says i'm going 0.also, my gas gauge started me out with just under a half a tank of gas, and when i got to work 15 miles away, i am under a quarter a tank of gas.finally, my 4wd and all-wheel-drive flashes intermittently while i am driving.i do not need to switch it myself, it just sometimes switches to 4hi, and flashes between.this morning i noticed the light wasn't on, period.the electrical system is entirely messed up.
My 2004chevrolet trailblazer ext has the same problems all the other trailblazers have. Poor design and subpar manufacturing of parts in foreign countries have resulted in electrical problems that cannot be fixed.gauges and lights randomly going crazy, heat and a/c may or may not operate, vehicle may or may not start, key may or may not release from ignition. Ignition switch has been replaced multiple times in last two years and often brand new ignitions straight out of the box from the dealer parts department are no good. As other gm vehicles with the same exact problems have been recalled one would think trailblazer owners should deserve the same courtesy.clearly gm disagrees. I guess when you know uncle sam will always be there to bail you out you can do what you want and still sleep good at night. I wouldnt know . As the parent of four children this is a serious safety issue with me. I can no longer drive it as i know it is not dependable.
Lights started flashing, gas gauge went to empty, car died. Restarted drove 1/4 mile died. Stereo system completely failed (whole unit). Keeps popping circuits changed out still doing. Cannot shut off heat due to banging sound. Car speeds up and down on own. Cannot read gas gauge correctly, not sure how full tank is.
Speedometer, tachometer and oil pressure gauge all stopped working on 2004 chevy trailblazer.
Fuel gauge not working alone with all the other gauges and turning signalnot working
My speedometer has stopped working on my 2004 chevy trailblazer.half the time it sits on 0 the other half it goes 120mph.i never have a clue how fast i am going.
I started to lose the high speeds on the fan blower.in checking the internet i found this is a common problem for g.m. The problem is the blower motor resistor.when i went to replace this part i found that the whole wiring harness had been burnt to.it got so hot that it melted everything. The fuse for this did not even blow.this could have set the truck on fire.it is funny how the parts to fix this has much thicker wire.the parts in total was around $118.thanks to a friend i had no labor cost.if i would of taken it to a g.m. Dealer for sure they would of wanted over $300.g.m. Knows they have a problem and are doing nothing about it.i feel this is a serious matter as it could of set the truck on fire.
The speedometer in my 2004 chevy trailblazer ext completely stopped working about 6 months about.we have been dealing with this issue and just praying we do not get a speeding ticket.now the check engine light continues to stay on even when reset.i am not being told i need to check the fuse which was unsuccessful.i can only imagine if the next thing to go will be all the electronics in the dashboard. This seriously needs to be a recall item!
2004 chevrolet trailblazer all instruments intermittently quit functioning during normal operation(speedometer, fuel level, rpm's, battery charge, oil pressure, temperature, mileage, and gear indicator.you can't tell what gear you are in.difficult to figure out forward from reverse.this is not safe at all to operate especially not knowing what gear you are in.
I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer that i purchased new in 2004.in 2007, the instrument cluster began to malfunction exhibiting erratic function.i took it to my local dealer where i purchased the vehicle and it was replaced under the warranty.now, here it is, 2/2010 and the cluster is doing the very same thing the original defective cluster was doing. I have gone online and read where many, many owners of chevy products from 2003 on are having these comparable issues and that chevy has some sort of extended warranty they are offering for many gm products with these defective clusters.i am disgusted by the fact that, from what i have read online, trailblazer owners have been excluded from this extended warranty due to an inadequate number of complaints necessary to warrant coverage.it is a known fact that the trailblazer has the identical instrument cluster as the other gm products covered in their extended warranty.at this point, i am adding myself to what i'm sure is a growing number of unhappy gm owners coming to you in hopes that gm will be made held responsible to replace a their defective product.
Speedometer dropped to zero. Stopped vehicle and restarted. Speedometer started but wouldn't go above 35 mph. I had a gps speedometer on my phone and it was registering 55-60 mph and the vehicle speedometer would display 25-30. After a cool night it might work correctly for 4 or 5 miles then it either drops to zero or falls to the 10-25mph range. Sometimes restarting the vehicle will get it to work again for a short time. When it is failing the needle drops below the 0 mph towards the mileage. When it seems to be working somewhat it stops at 0 mph or just above it. This should really be a recall !thank you
I own a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext.in nov 2007, the speedometer and tachometer started acting erratically.the tachometer would seem to stick and the speedometer would register either grossly over or under my current speed.it sticks when trying to accelerate after a deceleration.i have been able to get it to reset only after turning the engine on or off several times consecutively.i have been going down the interstate at speeds of 70+ (within legal speed) and the speedometer will show -5 mph.also, i have been going approx. 60mph and the speedometer shows 90+mph.i took it to the dealership where i purchased it in nov 2007 and at the time, their instruments couldn't detect a problemmileage at time of failure approx. 104,000 (had a 100,000 warranty).they charged a $100 diagnostic fee to tell me they didn't see a problem.current mileage is approx. 134,000.i have not had the problem fixed.
2004 chevy trailblazer dash cluster. I have 43,000 miles on my vehicle and the dash gauges went out. They started to work after about 10 minutes of driving and now they come on only about 1 out of 4 trips. I searched the internet and found a lot of owners complaining about the same problem. Why is this not a recall? please help if you can.
My 2004 chevy trailblazer has an instrument panel that stopped working. I feel this is very unsafe because i don't know how fast i am going, what my oil pressure is, the temperature of my car, or how much gas i have. I contacted a repair shop but it is over $1000 to replace the panel and there is no guarantee that this won't happen again. Apparently i am being told this is a problem that is very common in this year and make but there is not a recall for it. I don't understand why.
The instrument cluster stopped working, only the temp gauge and the fuel gauge works. The speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure gauges do not work. I believe general motors needs to issue a recall on this as this is a common problem with these vehicles.
Speedometer is incorrect.it will start off fine but after driving for about 10 min the speedometer needle will start falling to 0 at a slow pace.
Gauges in gauge cluster give false readings speedo in particular reads 120mph when not moving , when vehicle switch off and then back on the reading changes , sometimes goes back to normalhappens periodically through out the week; gauges affected tach, speedo, voltage.
The speedometer on both my 2004 chevy trailblazer ext and my 2005 chevy cavalier sedan have been functioning erratically, i.e. Registering 100 mph in park and then not registering a speed at all.
My 2004 chevy trailblazer oil, gas, speedometer and battery gauges stopped working and my heated seats smell like they're burning when turned on.
This is the second complaint i am submitting about the speedometer on my chevy trailblazer. I just wanted to include some links to customer discussion forums, in which you can see that this speedometer is a big problem. Gm tries to ignore the problem and most customers have no outlet to vent their problems, outside of the dealership who is trying to hide the problem. Please take a look at some of these discussions and you will see how gm is ignoring this very serious problem.http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-avalanche/tji11lgm9554mernahttp://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f0fb75b.
In march 2006 at approx, 38k miles our speedometer and tachometer started going crazy and they still do not work. Now the water and oil gauges are going out.
While driving all gauges in the instrument panel will completely stop working leaving vehicle traveling at an unknown speed!
One day i was driving down the road at about 40 mph, but when i looked at the speedometer it was reading 90.for about a month the speedometer never reached zero and performed normally.one day it finally did reach zero and acted properly for about a week, then began acting up again.since then, it has gotten stuck pointed down and does not move at all.also, my rpm began acting up as well.now it starts below zero and only moves occasionally.this is a major concern for me because i can handle not knowing the exact speed of my vehicle, but not knowing the rpm also makes it difficult because i have no real way to determine my speed.this is a dangerous issue that must be addressed.i have a friend with a trailblazer like mine and he has a similar problem.speedometer doesn't work.online i've also found hundreds of people who have this same problem.gm must correct this electrical glitch!
2004 ext trailblazer cluster instument panel. Non working rpm, speedometer, votlage meter, oil gauge, and tempature gauge. At least i know how much gas i have...i think!!
The speedometer has failed to work properly.it is erratic, sometimes registering "0" and sometimes registering 20-30 mph over actual speed.
The speedometer sticks.this problem started last summer (2008).i had noticed it happening after using the cruise control.i thought it was related to the cruise control and stopped using the cruise and it would still stick.fond out it is the instrument panel.the speedometer used to reset itself after a short period of time.now when i turn my car on it will read around 100 mph and move up past the 120 mph.it has been this way for approx 2 months.my mechanic said it needs a new instrument panel.i just researched on internet and i am not the only one with this problem.this is could result in an accident if someone does not realize their speed when the speedometer starts sticking.i have not had it replaced as i cannot afford it.i just gauge my speed by other cars or by the time it takes to go 5 or 10 miles when on the highway.not good.
The instrument panel on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer has gone out.my speedometer, oil gauge, and fuel gauge are no longer registering the correct information.
Make: chevroletmodel: trailblazer 04' extthe speedometer on the vehicle has stopped working. This seems to be a huge problem with "trailblazers" between 03-04. Many complaints, but no action taken by chevy to fix this. I would like for this to be looked into, as this is a huge safety issue. People driving around and not knowing their speed could cause an accident??
The speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer is not working properly.i never know what speed i am going.it reads 120 mph when i am at a red light!i'm constantly in fear of being pulled over by police whether i'm in the city or out in the country because i don't know if i'm following the speed limit.i took it to the dealership and they told me the whole dashboard needs to be replaced.the price of the part is @ $280 plus labor.some of the interior lights have burnt out and labeling of knobs have faded.the hub caps on the 17" wheels aren't secure enough.they come off easy when driving through water. I lost them during a storm and had to replace them when i saw they were missing.of these, what worries me the most is the speedometer as it is important for safe driving.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext. While driving approximately 35-40 mph, the speedometer, rmp gauge, tachometer, and the heater on the instrument panel stopped operating. The contact stated he called the dealer and the vehicle was not under warranty and there no recalls on his vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired.the contact was unable to provide a vin.the approximate failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
2004 chevy trailblazer v8 ext speedometer acting funny complete stopped shoes going 30. It reads faster than i drive so i have to figure out the stopped speed to figure out how much fast i am driving. Internet has many complaints about the same issue and similar ones like tahoe has been recalled.
The speedometer is not registering the correct speed, jumps around while driving and has affected the cruise control. I found that this issue is the same as nhtsa item # 10023585 for most similar gm vehicles, but for some reason, this family of gm trucks was not included in the reported issue.when the vehicle is stopped, the speedometer needle drops well below 0 and then jumps around when the vehicle starts moving. Based on checks with our gps, the speedometer is off by as much as 20 mph.
Transmission shifts hard from 1st to 2nd, sometimes when at a stop it stalls before taking off, sometimes rpm bottoms out. 4 wheel drive only used about 3 or 4 times, each time it stalled before going into 4 wheel then would not come out of 4 wheel for about 2 or 3 minutes.
Tachometer failed and the speedometer acted sporadic shortly thereafter.i never have an accurate speedometer reading on my 2004 trailblazer that only has 50,000 miles.i am in the process of finding a repair shop or getting my dealer to fix the problem at a discounted rate or free.
I was drving down the road and the speedometer stopped working while the truck was in motion.it went from 60 mph to the needle going all the way past 120 and pointing down at the odometer.my speed did not change during all this.
1, normal driving before failure.2. The speedometer is entirely inaccurate even in park. 3. Nothing has been done or can be done to fix.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext.during the winter, the speedometer malfunctions.the dial will show 100 mph when the vehicle is traveling 50 mph.the dealer stated that a new speedometer was needed at the cost of $500.the dealer information was unavailable.the current mileage was 83,216 and failure mileage was 47,000.
I have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer.for the past year the speedometer has run amok.i can be traveling at 30, 50, etc. Mph and the needle ranges from 20 mph over the speed limit and at times surpassed the 120 mph mark on the dial.can you help?thanks.
I am having multiple instrument cluster problems on my 2004 chevy trailblazer. They have done recalls on every type of chevy truck but the trailblazer. Why not the trailblazer as well? i have been reading forums after forums and complaints about the same thing and gm refuses to do anything about it. This needs fixed otherwise there may be fatal accidents by engines blowing up from the oil psi gauge not working properly and so on.
At 40,000 miles my chevy trailblazer's speedometer stopped working- at 120 mph and has been stuck there for a week.
At approximately 36,000 miles the speedometer on my chevy trailblazer started acting funny. At approximately 40,000 miles it started to get stuck. At 45,000 miles it stopped working altogether. It is now stuck in the down position pointing toward the instrument panel. I have spoken to numerous chevy trailblazer owners and have visited a number of online discussion groups and have found out that a number of people have had this same problem. This is a very serious safety issue, which can lead to injury or death.
Instruments on the instrument panel began to fail one at a time starting with tach then oil pressure and now speedometer.started a couple of months ago and have not had the money to fix.have to fix it now that speedometer doesn't work.problems started at about 75,000 miles now at 92,000 miles.
Speedometer doesn't work.
Speedodmeter sometimes work sometimes not working or not working at all.
Speedometer gets stuck at random places.impossible to know how fast you are going.gm recalled for this but not on trailblazers.
Speedometer stuck and is pointing straight down.at first it was stuck at 80mph and then just fell all the way to the bottom.now it does not work at all.my 2004 trailblazer only has 50k miles.
Instrument panel/ speedometer no longer works, first incident happened march of 2010. As of 12/2013 the voltage meter, rpm gauge, speedometer have completely stopped working.
2004 chevy trailblazer lt model had defective speedometer.constantly showing wrong speed, and stuck between 50 and 120 mph even when parked.
Speedometer was reading 90mph on a trip and cars were passing me, when i stopped the speedometer read 35mph standing still.it did this for about 3 days, then went back to normal. The other day coming home from a trip it seemed like it was acting up again, but my husband was driving, he thought it was acting up too.it is back to normal, haven't done anything about it.
My vehicle is currently at 116,000 miles and the speedometer and tachometer all of a sudden went to zero.it continued to stay at zero after i turned the vehicle off.the next time i drove it, it stayed at zero until halfway through my drive when now its stuck at 61 mph, which is where my cruise control was set.the tach now works half the time but the speedometer is giving me misleading information.i live in wisconsin where the weather is such a variable.i am always using my speedometer in certain road conditions.i have certain speeds i go in certain conditions (light snow, deeper snow, rain to freezing rain, freezing rain, slushy conditions, ice, sleet and just plain normal.)consequences for not retaining the correct speeds in certain conditions in wisconsin....gee let me think....death would probably be the worst.nothing's been done to fix this yet because i cannot afford it.it's one of those things that should just work and its a [xxx] shame gm hasn't done anything yet considering all the problems. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The speedometer on my 2004 chevy trailblazer is not working correctly.while the vehicle is stopped it still registers 15 - 20 mph.i have read reports of this problem all over the internet but gm is not issuing a recall or service bulletin that anyone will admit to.overall this truck has servedmy family well, but this is my wife's truck (our main vehicle) and i need everything to work properly.we purchased this vehicle because she travels with our children and we need a very dependable vehicle.if this was an isolated problem i could understand the repair at my expense, but report of this problem are all over the internet.gm should stand behind their product.
Speedometer goes completely out, falling below zero while traveling on road, typically after cruise control has been used, multiple warning lights flash while onstar and computer showing no codes after 4x4 used. Unable to diagnose problems because problem is intermittent and after vehicle parked for several hours problem is gone. Occurs about once a week. Has caused several instances of being unable to determine how fast your traveling. 2004 chevy trailblazer ext lt 4x4 i6 engine.
Battery gauge failed about 6 months ago and i didn't think much of it but now the gas gauge, oil gauge and fuel gauge are failing and according to everything i have read the speedometer is next.my dome lights haven't worked right in over a year but that didn't bother me.the gauges all failing are a safety factor.it occurs everytime i start the suv - i do not have the money to repair it.
The speedometer went to 120 and stayed for a couple of days and then slowly came back down but when traveling 5 mph it will say 40 to 90 depends how it feels. Gm will not back up under warrant. Vehicle is out of warranty but seems to be a common problem with chevrolet trucks...vehicle is a 2004 trailblazer ,with 40,000 mi..
2004 chevy trailblazer ext speedometer.
2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext speedometer does indicate correct speed. Operation is intermittent. With cruise control on, indication is from 0 mph to pegged out, with needle fluctuating. No accidents, injuries, or speeding tickets, yet!!!
I have a 2004 trailblazer ext and a 2004 crew cab silverado. Both of my speedometer are sticking on both vehicles.i have not taking to the dealership but from my research on theweb it looks like it is going to cost me a lot of money.
I purchased my 04 trailblazer in may of 07.up until july there where no problems.since then my speedometer and gas gauges have been acting up.on many occasions they give the wrong readings.i have been stopped twice for speeding when i did not think i was because of the wrong reading.last week on 5 sep 07 the speedometer completely froze giving me no reading at all.since then the needle has started moving but is no where near the correct reading.
I have a 2004 trailblazer with the same problems with the recall that is going on with gm. The instrument cluster is doing the same exact thing as the tahoe, avalanche, and i forgot what the other the car was.the fuel, water, and battery gauges, the airbag light, a long with the battery light stays on. Went to the dealership to find out why there wasn't a recall and they couldn't give me a answer. I feel that if gm is having the same problems with the other cars and haven't look to see if there is complaints on these, why haven't they added them to the recalls. Paying for the repairs and haven't to wait for gm to send out a recall on a vin type specific car is ridiculous. If they are having the same exact problem they need to check the other cars. I called the corporateoffice and they are telling me that i have to wait to see if there is a lot of complaints before they can do anything. If they stand by there quote of customer satisfaction then they are not satisfying the consumers and make them go through a whole ordeal, on finding a solution. Now i have to wait 3 days for a part and fill my gas tank up every other day to make sure i don't run out of gas. Plus, since i can't look at my instruments to tell if my car is going to overheat and make it into a bigger problem. So, since i called the corporate office we will if the people who spend money on there product will make good on customer satisfaction.
When i bought my truck everything was fine now the gas gauge, oil gauge and rpm gauge are not working right and i see that i am not the only person with this problem, it will cost about $600 to $700 dollars to fix this and with economy the way it is i think chevy should do something about this. My car is a 2004 chevy trailblazer.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext. While thecontact was driving at various speeds, unexpectedly the speed odometer and other gauges became inoperative. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing where they stated that the failure was contributed to the instrument panel cluster. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Driving home from vacation on the highway in a snowstorm, we realized the tachometer was no longer showing the correct rpms.it was stuck around 4000 while we were going less than that.a little while later we noticed that while we were slowing down for a red light and traveling probably 10 mph the speedometer was showing 60 mph.we quickly stopped for gas, thinking maybe those gauges were malfunctioning as well, but they weren't.when we accelerated again, the speedometer raised from 60 to eventually over 120 mph.each time we slowed down the needle stuck, then when we accelerated it went higher.while we were driving in the snowstorm on the highway, we think we were traveling about 20 to 30 mph, but the speedometer was still over 120 mph.this was scary because under normal driving conditions we would have been able to judge our speed, but in the snow it was hard to do so.on monday we called the dealership and were told that vehicles with under 70,000 miles they would fix but since ours had 78,000 we would have to pay for repairs.we decided we can't afford the repairs, then a few days later both gauges started working properly on their own.we are still leery of trusting them, and we are assuming they will malfunction again.i can see this problem leading to being ticketed for speeding and possibly even having an accident due to not knowing your speed.
Speedometer gives false readings.started in the winter of 2008, but is now happening on a weekly basis during the summer.
Starting about a few weeks ago my 2004 chevy trailblazer ext has reeked of unspent gasoline, and this smell consumes the entire interior and exterior of the vehicle. The vehicle also has small leak below reservoir which appears to be leaking unspent fuel. Chevy offered a "special coverage" to correct this issue (corrosion on top of fuel tank reservoir), however it only covers vehicles under 10 years of age and under 120k miles. My vehicle is under that mileage, however this repair will not be covered due to age of vehicle (mine was assembled in march). This issue is a major safety concern, as any small spark could cause this vehicle to ignite. I cannot continue to drive my vehicle, and feel this needs to be rectified before it causes catastrophic loss (either building or personal).
I was wondering how come there hasn't been a recall for the chevy trailblazer ext for the throttle body. I see that they have recalls on other chevy cars with the same issue. This is a very dangerous issue as when this goes you have a reduce engine light that comes on. Which i didn't know what that meant until my car wasn't going any more than 20 mph. This is very dangerous to be on the road like i was and can't speed up or better yet trying to turn when you don't have the power to do so. Also,i see that there were also alot of issues with the speedometer. Which also i had that problem has to pay too much money to get this fixed. As how they would say their are manufacture parts which definitely hurts your pockets. If they know that they have these issues they really need to rectify because both of these issues cause some serious problems on the road. I know they are wear and tear on cars / trucks but if you have too many people having the same problems i think they should do something to resolve these issues.
Cracked exhaust manifold
Vehicle's reduced engine power light comes on, and vehicle loses power in dangerous places. Lost of problems consist ofseveralparts having to do with acceleration. This problem happened suddenly, andnis a danger to himan safety because of it happening several times including o n the highway.
While driving on the highway there was a boom under the hood. Two minutes later the car started decreasing power and i had to pull over. Before i could get out to lift the hood, fire was shooting from under neath.
2004 trailblazer , transmission dipstick rusted and broke, transmission went out from water getting inside / do not know how this could have happened ! and the bearings in the waterpump went out leaving the fan shaft wiggling / loose. With only 65000 miles on my trailblazer not traveling no faster than 75 mph max. This should not have happened. My friends with the same trailblazer is having the same thing happening. I serviced every 3500 miles since owned 2005. Please help if can .
Not sure what to file this under, so i put it under unknown and other. About 4 months ago my service engine soon light came on. It stayed on for a few days then went off, a few days later it was back on, then a few days later went off, then it came on for a longer period of time and do the same thing, eventually it stayed on. Took it to the chevy dealership where i bought it and they said the gas tank had a crack in it and needed to be replaced. Said it was probably from the gas nozzle hitting the tank when filling it up. Don't see how that is possible, when it is only me or my husband filling it up & how hard would you have to hit it for it to crack?had it replaced the next month.now the service engine soon light is doing the same thing.haven't taken it back in yet.
My trailblazer has stalled (cut off) now 4 times and it is getting old and unsafe. When you are going down i-95 and it cuts off. Imagine having no powering steering and trying to get out of the way before you get hit going 70 mph! and chevrolet will not take it back orhelp with a trade!i may contact the papers and have someone look into this!!
Ticking noise from engine has been diagnosed as a cracked exhaust manifold.this should be covered by gm as a warranty item since there have been so many exhaust manifold failures related to the 4.2 liter six cylinder engine.
The ext. Manifold on my 2004 trl blazer has a leak in the maifold body. The vehicle has approx. 120000 miles on it. This should be a recall item for manufacturing defect, but gm has not as of yet, issued a recall. It is a costly repair, as well as a safety concern, given that the exhaust fumes can enter the passenger compartment of the vehicle. I have owned many gm vehicles overtime, and never seen this before.

I own a 2004 trailblazer ext with the i6 and i've been getting strong smells of exhaust fumes inside the vehicle do to a faulty exhaust manifold that is cracked. It seems that it happens to 90 percent of the trailblazers with the i6 motor. Come to find out that the exhaust manifold is on national back order which tells me that gm should do something about this seeing that it's hard to drive around with the windows up and the heat on. Not only is it a safety hazard but it's also an emission issue.
Traveling on highway.loss of engine power caused a near miss with a tractor trailer traveling behind me. Cause was catalytic converter. The vehicle only has 37000 miles on it. Oxygen sensor also failed, this is the second one replaced. I have only had the vehicle 4 months and only put 5000 miles on it.the vehicle has been in the chevy garage for 10 days now, chevy says they can't find a converter.
01/27/04,09/28/05,11/18/05 took vehicle in for service engine soon lights, 04/26/06 took vehicle in for metallic rattle sound suspecting heat shield on exhaust manifold.dealership stated front backing plates were contacting steering knuckle.04/21/06 began drive from okc, ok to vanouver, washington, midtrip noted same noise.on trip noise became extremely louder.stopped at cheyenne wy dealership couldn't get appt for several days. Husband removed heat shield in evanston wy on 8/23 and discovered cracked exhaust manifold.41000 miles on vehicle.2 dealerships in evanston wy would not touch us for several days.contacted gm customer assistance who contacted dealership in slc, utwho would look at vehicle.drove there but because over 36k,warranty did not cover and they would not fix vehicle under warranty and could not fix same day. Contacted dealership in vancouver wa upon return and they are trying to repair but have now discovered 3 cracked head bolts in addition to cracked manifold.refusing to cover under warranty even though in for previously.have admitted to not addressing heat shield at all in april.extreme stress, inconvenienced and worry on vacation. No eta on repairs.have requested all parts to be retained for investigation.
My air/heat on occasion has not worked.this happened a few times where i would turn on the system and everything would sound like it was on but nothing would blow out at all.my vehicle is of course out of warranty and i went to my mechanic who said this is an on going issue with many gm vehicles.currently my unit is not working again.
I have a 2004 chevy trailblazer with about 79000 miles on it. The instrument cluster started being incorrect about a year and a half ago. At that time i was not aware of what the problem was and did not realize that this problem is so widespread among trailblazer owners. The gauges stick. When this first started it was just the speedometer and the rpm gauge, but now its the mentioned gauges plus the fuel gauge. I have had a traffic stop and was given a warning for defective equipment. I would like to know why is there not a recall in place for the repair of this problem? i have been told that it has been brought in as a problem by a lot of owners and the cost is around $500. Please help with this issue that is clearly not an owner initiated problem but a defect in manufacturing. Thank you very much.
When hadthe crash which was very hard loud and scary the air bags didn't deploy nor did the air bags on the side of seat. The crash was very serious and the electrical system and powertrain to windows.
I am in the process of having to replace the head unit for my stereo due to malfunctions, my driver side view mirror due to constant shaking, a seal in the window that was coming out, driver side door panel due to the plastic bowing up.occasionally the rear windshield wiper does not work, as well as the driver's seatbelt fails to release allowing me to put my seatbelt on.excess wind noise on the driverside possibly due to the windshield not being sealed properly.
1. Normal driving, 2. The cd player will not eject the cd, 3. Attempted to get it out and then researched for how to's and found it was impossible to fix without getting a new stereo.
Brake lights went outall the timewaiting on response.
Low beams went off as i was driving down rural roadway. This was at 10:45 at night on my way to work. Had too sit by side of road for some time with no lights.finally came back on.this has happened 4 other times since then.i live in a rural area, when the lights go out there are no street lights around to illuminate the roadway.i have had 2 near crashes due to the darkness of the area in which i was traveling. There are no codes being thrown when this occurs, no warnings, the lights just go out.unable to locate failure point.high beams, turn signals, parking lights work, just not low beams.
Starting june 17, 2008, the low beams on my 2004 chevrolet trail blazer ltgo out intermittently - the high beams, fog lights, hazard lights, and turn signal lights still work - only low beams causing problems.i keep my lights setting in the postion that they come on when i start my car.i consider this a safety factor.the lights will go out suddenly.i can only document one time that they went out during the day time, but have documented seven (7) times that the lights went off at night.the next space on this form asks for the approximate incident date - i put down the first time.as stated above thishas happened seven times at night and at least one time during the day.i can only tell during the day time if i am stopped at a traffic signal behind another vehicle and i only have 2 traffic signals between my home and work.i took my car to sandy sansing chevrolet, pensacola, florida, on june 23, 2008,they said they checked my car for three hours but could not find problem.i would need to bring it in when the lights go out.unfortunately, the only time i could tell they had gone out during the day time, i was stopped at a traffic signal and before the light turned green, the lights came back on.(my 16 year old grandson was in the car with me and can verify that this happened.in fact he and another grandson was in the car on the night of july 1, 2008, when the low beams went out while i was driving down the road on the way home from the baseball game.
I was getting on the expressway & both headlights just stopped working. I drove home with no lights on the front of my car in the dark, very very very unsafe. How do all the lights on the front of your car go out all at the same time.
Headlights will not work. Daytime running lights don't work. The issue was addressed by chevy dealership. This is a on going problem. Other chevy and gmsuv had been recalled for this issue however this model was not included within the recall.
My headlamps keep flickering off. At this time they don't come back on. For about 7 months they would go off and i would have to pull over and shut vehicle off. It would come on after i let it sit for a minute. Now they shut off and will not come back on.
When driving the headlights all of a sudden just shut off. It is extremely scary at night. I found that i can however use the brights. They eventually come back on. This has been happening for years. I kept hoping for a recall and just found this site to report it. This has happen on city streets and highways. It has happened when there are street lights and vehicle lights and when it is pitch black. The 1st time it happened, i was driving with my child in the vehicle on the freeway.
2004 chevrolet trailblazer ex.both brake lights were not working. The center high brake light was working. I took it to the dealer and was told the repair would be covered under my private extended warranty that i purchased with the vehicle. I stated i thought it might be covered under a recall or special policy extended warranty. The service person said that he would check.1) there was recall nhtsa actions # ea04021 that does not include this year vehicle. 2) i was told there was a gm special policy that would cover the right taillight circuit board. I was told this failure caused the bulbs in the left brake light to fail.there is not policy to replace the left circuit board.if it fails there it will be covered for 6 years or 75,000 miles. My issue is it there is some sort of defect that is causing both brake lights to fail but there is not a recall for this year model.
Consumer took her 2004 chevrolet trailblazer to dealership to have recall work done and was told that it needs tobe taken to where it was purchased. Recall#05v198000.
I was driving my trailblazer to minneapolis and the turn signals were working fine, i stop and when i started driving again i went to use my left turn signal and the flashers went on instead. It continued to do this everytime i used it. I had to go and get the flasher modules replace at the cost of 200.00. I see that there is a recall on this but my vin # is not included in the recall.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer. While the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed a significant amount of fuel leaking onto the ground. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered the fuel tank would need to be replaced. The manufacturer issued a voluntary recall pertaining to the fuel tank filler neck. The dealer was notified and they stated the vin was ineligible under the recall defect. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
1. Fuel tank failure, with gas smell after fill up. 2. Speedometer stopped working 3. Temperature gage stopped working
I began smelling gas from the vehicle and noted that there is gas dripping from around the gas tank. I contacted my mechanic and was told that this is the third trailblazer he has seen in 2 weeks with the same problem. Chevrolet advises that there was a fix which was good only until 120,000 miles. How am i supposed to know to take it and have it fixed before 120,000 miles if i am not notified by gm? this obviously is a serious safety issue involving the trailblazer which gm is aware of but has thus far resisted recalling. [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I have a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext with 161,000 miles on it. A few weeks ago i got to noticing a real strong gas odor in and around the vehicle. I have done a lot of research and have had the vehicle checked out and came to the conclusion that it is the common problem that is affecting many other trailblazer ext owners. It is the fuel tank inlet check valve at the top of the fuel tank. In doing my research i have noticed that many people have had this issue fixed by some recalls that have been issued so i took the vehicle to my local chevrolet dealer to find out about it only to be informed that mine is 41,000 miles past the recall mileage and will cost upwards of $1,000 to fix. I am worried about a possible fire or explosion with this issue. I am afraid to drive it to work every day and to use it to take my children to school. I just wish that chevrolet would fix this so i don't have to worry every day about driving it. I don't feel that there should be a mileage restriction on a safety issue that could result in death or great injury.
Fuel pump failure on 2004 chevy trailblazer at approx 36,000 miles.
I received a notice from chevrolet dated october 2008 regarding my 2004 trailblazer ext. The notice stated a fuel tank modular reservoir assembly may develop due to corrosion and allow fuel to leak. I was informed that i must wait for the corrosion to cause aleak of fuel (and risk a fire hazard) for the repair to be covered. I was also instructed not to take my vehicle to my chevrolet dealer as a result of the notice. I think this a playing russian roulette with all of the owners of 2004 chevrolet trailblazers. This is unfair and dangerous in my opinion. I called the chevrolet customer assistance center at 899-630-2438. I was informed i must comply with the notice and that if i took the car in to the dealer, i would be charged for the service review of the problem.
Fuel smell/ leak.
The fuel tank is leaking.the fill tube separated from the tank and is leaking fuel onto the tank.there is a strong fuel odor as well.called chevrolet they stated that vehicles are only being repaired for this issue in northern, eastern and midwestern states.stated they will not fix my issue though it has the same issues covered under the special coverage, due to my geographic location.
Service engine soon light came on. Took it to auto zone and computer diagnosis was evap emission leak, small. Code:p0440.this happened twice over 2-3 week period.replaced gas cap, that was not the problem. Light came back on. Took to dealership garage, i was told that i had a significant leak in my gas tank, at the filler neck, would cost $900 to fix it.thing is, i had been driving this car around for over 3 weeks with my 2 small children in it with the possibility it could have caught on fire! how scary is that? dealership said it was not safe to drive due to possibility of catching fire.contacted gm consumer service, awaiting their return call. They didn't seem interested in helping me.i know previous yrs (2002, 2003, and early 2004 models) have the same problem and was covered by gm or were recalled.i have never received a recall notice. I think it is suspicious that i have the same problem as previous yr models and i have only 85,000 miles on my car.
My vehicle is currently parked in my family's garage, as i am experiencing a strong gas smell.there is no visible leak, but i do not dare to transport my children in the vehicle until i can find what the gas smell is originating from.
Not sure what to file this under, so i put it under fuel system, gasoline. Same day i was having problems with speedometer i was having problems with the gas gage. The arrow would go way past full, when i knew i only had about half a tank. The gas gage has been acting up ever since, i just have to keep track of my mileage to know when to fill it up. Have not had the problem fixed yet.
The vehicle was purchased in sept 2004.in march 2005 i started noticing it was hard to start in the morning when it was cold and it idled roughly and would stall when i pressed the gas pedal to accelerate.the dealer found nothing wrong with it then.in april 2005, with 9400 miles on it, the service engine light came on so i took it back to dealership.they cleaned out (flushed) the fuel system and proceeded to tell me not to buy "cheap gas" because sometimes it will have particles in it that can clog up the fuel system (then what is the fuel filter for?).since then i have had the fuel system flushed three more times.i probably could have had it done more times, but it is extremely inconvenient to keep going to the dealership and being without a vehicle, so i just dealt with the rough idle and hesitations.i buy gas the same places as everyone else in my family, yet i am the only one experiencing this problem.i bought fuel injector cleaner and put it in the gas tank every couple of fillups.the dealership has offered to replace the fuel injector that keeps clogging, but of course none of the mechanics ever made note of which one it was.so when the problem recurs i must take it back to the dealership again.
Leaking fuel tank. No fire yet! envirmental hazard.
Crack in my fuel tank in my 2004 chevy trailblazer.
I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer.i am having constant problems with the gas gauge indicating that either there isless gas then actual, or more gas then actual.i know there is an investigation going on with these vehicles but only for the years 2005-2007,mine is a 2004.this investigation should also include this year since the same problems are happening.
Noticed gasoline odors inside the vehicle on oct. 2011. Personal auto mechanic told me last week that there's a crack on the fuel fill neck area where the gas nozzle is inserted.
The nipple part of the fuel tank that connects the filler line to the fuel tank has cracked and leaks fuel when we fill up and when we drive and do to the fact that we park in the garage with the (wet) leaky side of the fuel tank within five feet of our gas water heater we are lucky people to be alive. (this is a faulty piece of plastic and by the way the reviews/complaints look on this site we are not the first to experience this issue).
"service engine soon" light came on. Took it to dealership. Was told that the fuel cap was bad and there was a crack in the fuel tank. Replaced both parts costing $946.73.
My wife's 2004 trailblazer ext service engine soon light came on in late september 2009.she had been complaining of a gasoline smell after filling the vehicle. I had the obdii code read and it was code 0440 evaporative fuel system - small leak.i was told to replace the gas cap, and it did not remedy the problem.i then found out that the 2002-2004 trailblazer ext had a known problem with the gas tank filler necks developing cracks and causing the ses light to come on and gas to leak when the tank is filled or near full.i contacted chevrolet, who stated that out trailblazer is not in the vin range of trailblazer ext's that were covered by a special notice that allowed the tanks to be replaced under a special extended warranty.the replacement cost is $900+.this is a known problem with 2004 trailblazer ext, outside of the narrow vin range that chevrolet will admit to.all 2004 ext's should be included in the extended warranty.our vehicle just turned 60,000 miles.
S10 comeback- letter to secretary from requesting reimbursement for work done to a chevy trailblazer ext *tgwthe consumer stated his daughter owns the vehicle. His daughter received a recall letter in the mail regarding the fuel pump. She made an appointment after being told it was covered, however when she arrived at the dealer, the manager informed the consumer that the corporate division told them it was not covered because the vehicle had over 120,000 miles.the consumer would like toknow the date and time the recall was issued and is seeking reimbursement of $900.00for the repairs. Updated 01/28/11.
The dealership that we bought our car from didn't want to fix our problem being that we didn't have and extra 1500 dollars to buy an extra warranty for the car about three weeks later after taking it off the lot at a store the car didn't come back on so we called and asked a mechanic what could be wrong and they let us know that it could be the fuel pump or some thing to do with the fuel lines so we took it in to get checked and it was the fuel pump and the fuel tank so we called the dealership and told them what happened and they told us that they would talk to the manager and see what they can do so then about two hours later they called back saying that they couldn't do nothing because of the fact that we didn't buy the extra 1500 dollar warranty so i told them that it wasn't even thirty day after we took the car off the lot and all they could say is that they were sorry we didn't get a (car fax report) like it says ion a display on thedealership entrance door we didn't get nothing they expected us to give them 1500dollars down payment and we had to use that money to fix the car and they didn't even care.
I purchased a chevrolet ext trailblazer on nov. 26, 2004. 2 months later on feb. 1, 2005 it was towed into the dealership after shutting down 5 times with 2 loud explosions. The malfuction of the vehicle came close to a couple of accidents occuring and an almost near death experience for my daugher and i when it shut down for on a 4 lane highway by attempting to cross it unto the residential area. The dealership informed me that the fuel injection valve had malfuctioned and remained open releasing all the gasoline unto the engine. They are replacing the injector, spark plugs/wires that were flooded with gasoline, and the intake gasket. I contacted gm which also confirmed to me that the series of events could have started a vehicle fire and the first time this happened i should have left the engine off and vacated it immediately. The dealership can not tell me how this occured nor promise that it will not happen again or other problems stem from this defect. This is a potentially life threating situation to anyone. I am not the first person with this complaint. I am pursuing other avenues to ensure that i will not keep this vehicle. Please inform the public of this life threating safety hazard.
Tank is subject to cracking causing rough idle vehicle speed surges and gas vapors in the vehicle and around the vehicle. Vehicle will fail emissions. Manufacture recall was put out but vehicle has to be made at a certain faculty and mine wasn't, but has the same problem as the recalled cars.
In the 2004 chevrolet trailblazer enginechecklightstayed on.unfortunately, none of the 10 chevrolet dealers we took this vehicle to could diagnose the problem w until we were past the 70,000 milesextra warranty chevroletadded to cover all the vehicles with this problem. Warranty information was addressed in special policy adjustment- fuel tank inlet check valve fracture #05012 on march 14, 2005.apparently, as we were told by a chevroletdealerthisvehicle hada fracture in the gas tank, and the only way to fix itwas to replace the tank.there wasno recall on thisproblem, but i have found number of articles of people complaining of the same problem on the internet.this was a huge safety issue, especially for us, as this vehiclewasthe primarytransportationformy children to and from school.
2004 chevy trailblazer ext ,gas gauge gives inaccurate reading even we car is in off position ,when car is startedgauge buries itself andgoes well beyond full mark driver cannot depend on accuracy leading to running out of gas on major highway or bridge.
On several occasion over the past year my fuel gauge in my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer lt has read inaccurately leading to breaking down due to the vehicle running out of gas while the gauge was still reading at least 1/4 tank moments before the engine stalls.on all occasions i was driving on the freeway the gauge showed 1/4 tank and then all od a suddenly dropped to e with the fuel warning light coming one.within a few miles of this sudden drop and the warning light coming on the engine would stall due thevehicle being out of gas.i have complained to my local dealer on several occasions and all they have offered to me is to replace the sending unit, which in this model is integrated with the fuel pump at the cost of almost $800.this seem wrong to me. Now that i have read that this seems to be a problem on these types of vehicles i am even more upset that the local dealership told me my issue is an isolated issue and they have never heard of any problems with the fuel gauges in these vehicles.
I own a 2004 chevy trailblazer.i purchased it used from a dealer in december of 2010.i notice since i have owned it that there is something wrong with the gas gauge.it will show a decent amount of gas in the tank then by the time i get out of my driveway it is showing empty.it will go up and down all the time.i know i am not out of gas, because i make sure to put gas in every day because i am not sure what is in the tank because of this problem.i was going to take it to a mechanic to have them look at it and fix the problem.since seeing that an investigation is being done for the same exact problem, i decided to write here first.i am requesting that the years investigated also included 2004, since it is the same problem that is being investigated by your agency.
On july 26 the fuel tank broke and the fuel pump went out also on my chevy trailblazer it was two days before i had it for 30 days i called the dealer and they said that they couldn't do nothing we paid about $2800.00 dollars to get it fixed you could smell the gas inside the car i was very worried being that it was harmful to my kids and i let the dealer know that and then a week later we got a recall letter from chevy about the problem the dealer never gave us the car fax report like it states in there dealer front door i would like to do something about this .
The gas gauge does not work properly.i have talked to several owners of trailblazers and they have the same problem.
Gas gauge has not been reliable.low gas light will come on and go off while driving and does not register addition of gas accurately.
Due to a service engine soon warning light and smelling gas inside my vehicle, i took my vehicle to my local mechanic. He stated there was a crack in the neck of my fuel tank. The tank needs to be replaced. He also stated that this is a common problem with trailblazers. I looked up any recalls. Found special coverage adjustment - fuel tank inlet check valve fracture#07099a. I called a local dealer who confirmed that was right. However my vin # does not fall under vin #'s listed. The dealer called a local gm rep. And i was offered40% covered by gm meaning i would have to cover the other 60%. I do not understand why only some vin#'s are in this and not all of them. It seems that this a problem that is very common in these trailblazers. I do not feel safe driving my family of 5 around in this trailblazer with a fracture fuel tank inlet check valve and the strong smell of gas in the truck and risk of fire from gas leaking out. This should be a recall item so that those of us that have trailblazers not with in the vin #'s covered can get this fixed and be safe. Chevrolet/gm should step up and make this a recall this is a huge safety issue.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext. The contact stated he began to smell fuel inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,000. The vin was unavailable.
My fuel tank has a hole in it. I have filed a previous complaint with nhtsa and also with gm. An nhtsa worker helped me a lot and when i called gm and chevy back i was told several times someone would get back in touch with me. I have tried to get it fixed but no one is able to help. I have tried many places for used fuel tanks but everyone says that the envoys and trailblazers that they have all have the same exact issue. I cannot get any help from gm or chevy.
I just gased the chevrolet trailblazer and was driving down the road and we could smell gas did not think much of it because we just got gas then the check engine light came on it was a po442 code evaporative emission control small leak detected so i have been smelling gas off and on and keep getting the po442 code. So i go buy a vent valve solenoid and put it on clear the code i notice gas around the intake pipe on the gas tank so i take a closer look and its broke half way around the filler neck and this is a recall on certain vin #s but mine is not included in this recall i think it should be when you are dealing with fuel and the amount of fuel that can leak out this can be a fire hazard for sure i think gm needs to step up and take care of this problem on all vehicles that have this problem instead of picking an choosing certain vin #s.
Due to a service engine soon warning light and smelling gas inside my vehicle, i took my vehicle to my local mechanic. He stated there was a crack in the neck of my fuel tank. The tank needs to be replaced. He also stated that this is a common problem with trailblazers. I then took the vehicle to the gm dealer where it was purchased. Their initial diagnosis was the fuel cap needed to be replaced. At that point i asked them to check for a crack. They did and verified there is a crack. I mentioned gm campaign 07099a - a recall for trailblazer ext's to remedy this problem by replacing the fuel tank at no charge. Unfortunately, this recall only affected certain vin #'s and mine is not within the affected number range. I believe this is a very dangerous safety defect that should be remedied by the dealer at no cost to me. The dealer offered a 50/50 resolution which to me only serves to prove their culpability in the matter. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle and am very concerned for my safety and the safety of my two year old granddaughter whom i regularly transport in this vehicle.
The inlet check valve is fractured and chevy will not do any repairs due to the mileage being over 150000
Several months the smell of gasoline was very strong in the interior of my suv.i drove it about five miles from my home with a full tank, as i drove it the smell became much strong, when i reached my destination a person pointed out to me that gasoline was pouring from the bottom of my truck like a water hose.i immediately returned home to park the vehicle.as i tried to recall what may have occurred, i remembered that two days prior to the incident i got an oil change; i assumed that maybe they had done something to aggravate an already existing problem.after they reviewed their work, i was told it was a manufactures problem.i later took the vehicle to wolf chevrolet (now defunct dealer). A diagnostic was done and it was determined that the gas tank must be replaced with a cost of $1192.and the suv is considered "too dangerous to drive".i then went to another automotive establishment and was given the same diagnosis.after taking in consideration both estimates and my need for transportation, i contacted gm and spoke with a customer service representative who informed me that i needed to take the vehicle to a certified gm dealer.i took the vehicle to lou bachrodt in cherry valley, illinois and was given the same diagnosis.afteri relayed the iinformation to the gm rep, he said that due to the age of the vehicle and the mileage, gm would not be able to offer me any compensation.he suggested i phone lou bachrodt and see if they could assist me in the cost, the service technician gave me the same statement; age and mileage.i am writing because from all indications this problem is not only prevalent in my suv but after doing research, several 2004 chevrolet trailblazer owners have experienced similar problems.it is my belief that chevrolet gm should take ownership for all or some of this problem.
Rusted fuel lines- garage checked strong fuel smell and discovered rusted fuel filler and lines
I was driving down the road when i ran out of gas.it still showed over 100 miles left on the gauge.that was about 3 months after i purchased the vehicle.about two months later, i had the same problem.i started keeping the gas on 3/4 of a tank at all times to make sure there was fuel in it.the problem kept happening.today, it was on 200+ miles and i ran out.this is ridiculous!do i really have to keep track of how many miles i put on it so i know when i need to refill?
I was driving to work this morning and the tailgate on my '04 chevy trailblazer popped open. I was in morning traffic and ithas happened before but now i am wondering if there is a recall for the issue?
I own a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext.the glass portion of the tailgate became unglued from the hinge.this did not allow the glass portion to latch properly.the dealership/body shop said they had never seen that happen.in all the opening to investigate the problem, the support bar for the glass failed and the entire liftgate cover was loose.my thoughts are the cover was the start of the hinge coming unglued as the body shop said that they have had cases where the cover comes flying off.this would place stress on the hinge/glue and cause a failure.the body shop said they could not repair.it would cast $1000+ for a new glass and $650+ for a used glass.i took it to a private body shop and they reglued the glass and hinge but were unable to secure the liftgate cover without screwing it in place.the fix lasted for about a week and then when i went to lift the tailgate (entire tailgate, not glass), it bound up on the top and only ones 1/2 way.finally, the tailgate latch malfunctioned and would not latch when trying to close the tailgate.upon repair, the latch mechanism had disintegrated and the rubber coating was all torn apart, causing the latch mechanism to jam.
Once in a while while driving down the raod the rear hatch window pops open. This does not happen all the time but in the past year it has happen four times. Twice in the past month.
Automatic transmission slips when it tries to shift into 3rd or 4th gear, i read that there was a report on this happening but there was not a recall as far as i know, i recently purchased this vehicle from the original owner who says they never received anypaper work from gm about doing repairs. My question is will gm repair this condition at no cost to me?
The transmission cooling lines corroded and caused a transmission fluid leak.the engine rpms increased and the vehicle lost power while going down interstate 86.when the fluid leaked out of the transmission cooling lines, it sprayed all over the exhaust pipes, which caused a severe fire hazard.due to the loss of transmission fluid, it cased significant damage to the transmission internals.
Driving home from work brakes started locking up drove home took apart front an rear brakes found front calipers locked up changed calipers an brake pads front an rear tried to bleed brakes had a spongy pedal filled master cylinder an noticed brake fluid leaking under master cylinder connector behind front driver side wheel no part to fix no listing . Cannot drive car. That's just one problem transmission lines rotted an changed 2 years ago . Power steering cooler rotted out lost all power steering fluid 1 month ago an put after market cooler in . Also air conditioner lines rotted out cannot hold r34 coolant anymore.
I bought my 2004 trailblazer new in 2004 and it has been ok. I got in it last thursday and put it in reverse to back out of my basement to go to work. It made a horrible noise so i got my husband up to look at it. Come to find out reverse went out on the transmission. The repair shop said reverse was out and some gears were worn. I had no warning and this just happened. This repair person told us this wasweak link on the trailblazers and the transmissions would go just like that. If this is a weak link, gm should recall and fix the problem. I did not take out the extended warranty and i only have about 89,000 miles on the vehicle.
The reverse transmission bell housing blows out. This is the second chevrolet vehicle i have owned and the same problem on both the first time $2400.00 later it was fixed, and now $2200.00 later the problem will be fixed. I know of 3 people so far that have had the same problem. I will assure you this will be the last chevrolet vehicle i will buy unless this problem is fixed. Please respond.
Driving normally ,put car in park ,put car back in drive crunching noise ,car no longer has reverse or 2nd gear.
Transmission slipping between 3rd and 4th gear.engine revs in neutral, then transmission would re-engage.failure would occur everytime vehicle was driven.repaired by complete transmission rebuild.
Dt*:the contact stated that while driving up a driveway at 10 mph, the transmissionslipped, and would not accelerate when the pedal was depressed.the vehicle was not taken in for service.
About 10 miles outside of dallas my check engine light came on but no initial problems. Later that night while driving on the interstate the car would not go faster than 30mph. I returned home that night and left it parked. The next day took it to autozone and the guy did an engine check stating that my transmission has gone out and that it was low on fluids. I added 3 quarts of transmission fluid which seemed to help a little bit, but i do not feel comfortable enough making an 8 hr trip back home.
2004 trailblazer, the transmission dip stick rusted and broke and water in transmission. Transmission went out. Many other owners having same problem with same 2004 trailblazers. Bad dip stick manufacture position getting water inside.

The consumer lost control of the vehicle at 60 mph, going into a ditch, the seat belt did not secure the consumer, and the air bag did not deploy. *sc
On numerous occasions the seat belt on my 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext. Has malfunctioned, i.e. It does not come out, and therefore will force me to drive without a seat belt.i have visited thedealership on numerous occasions to have them correct the problem, everytime i travel to the dealership seems to be the time that it starts to work again. Gm's policy is that "if they do not see the problem when it occurs, that there is no problem"i believe this to be a major safety concern, being unable to buckle my seatbelt on occasion, and not to mention illegal to drive without a seatbelt in the state of florida, in talking with several other trailblazer owners, they have experienced the same, i am very concerned about this, and do not know what else to do?
My 2004 chevy trailblazer oil, gas, speedometer and battery gauges stopped working and my heated seats smell like they're burning when turned on.

Power steering pump needs replaced. Other suv owners have told me the same thing happened to their vehicle that had the same pump.
In cold weather, the steering fluid becomes filled with air. Then it foams and boils out of the pump.the car is impossible to steer. It has done it twice.
My 2004 chevrolet trailblazer had a sudden failure of the power steering pump.the vehicle only had 43,000 miles on it and failed without warning.it became extremely difficult to steer and fortunately i was not traveling fast at the time.note that there were no leaks in the system and there was the proper amount of fluid in the reservoir at the time of failure.

The upper molding of my 2004 trailblazer blew off the back of the vehicle while i was driving. A previous problem with the same part had been fixed at no charge more than a year ago. This time, the dealership where i bought the vehicle gave me an estimate on what it would cost to repair it ($505.20), but said this problem would not be covered by warranty. The body shop manager in 2004 said he had seen several vehicles with the same problem. The dealership today denied that pattern and said fixing the problem was up to me. To compound the problem from my perspective, it took the dealership 36 hours to come to a decision on whether or not the cost of repair should be borne by me or not.
My family was driving home on the freeway when the complete third taillight cover blew off. It appears that the adhesive that attaches the rear spoiler to the glass of lift gate has loosened due to a manufacturer defect.
Part # 19120564 rubs on tailgate when opening . Does secure properly. Eventually, flew off while driving.
I was driving to work this morning and the tailgate on my '04 chevy trailblazer popped open. I was in morning traffic and ithas happened before but now i am wondering if there is a recall for the issue?
The first time i was in a car wash and heard a loud banging noise.i looked back and could see the upper tailgate molding flopping in the wind of the car wash dryer being held on by only the brake wires.at that time it was replaced under warranty. 2nd replacement about 3 years later same thing. Now recently i noticed again that on the drivers side screw attachment on the molding has broken away again and it's my responsibility to shell out the $500+ to have it replaced again.i have been told by a gm dealer it is probably caused by our wisconsin winters with accumulation of ice & snow build up getting under the molding and also winds used to drying vehicles in car washes. Cheap plastic for the mounting screw to go through to attach it to the vehicle.
Stalls - i have taken this trailblazer into the dealer for this stalling problem and i am told no problem found.vehicle stalls after coming to a stop or when moving slowly.this is an intermittent.
1. Normal driving. 2. The rpm gauge works erratically and is never accurate.3.we could not find a replacement part and it has not been fixed.
Product defect.
The speedometer sticks and does not give accurate readings of speed (i.e. 70mph when stopped at traffic light). This began today and has not corrected itself.there are serious potential consequences of this problem as drivers will not be able to know their true speed. Nothing has been done yet to correct the failure.research has shown average price of repair to be around $450.00.
Issue originally occurring in 2008. Speedometer failed...first getting stuck then not returning to zero.when turning vehicle on again, speedometer would sporadically work, then get stuck, then stay on zero.brought to 2 chevy dealerships while still under warranty (purchased extended warranty on date of purchase) and was told "the problem could not be reproduced", so nothing could be done. The problem was intermittent, as well as "service engine light" going on for periods of time ....again checked by gm dealerships and other mechanics but nothing found.here we are in 2012,i recently started driving this vehicle again as my husband was driving it and apparently didn't mind the speedometer not working at times, but, with his unexpected death in november, and my son away at college, i had planned to give the vehicle to my son to take to college, but no speedometer is definitely a problem.as i am researching this issue i am seeing many consumers have had the same experience.why has this not been a recall by gm.there are claims of other mechanics being able to repair this issue at a pretty hefty cost.i am in no position to pay for a repair of something that should have been taken care of under the warranty we purchased, which, by the way was not cheap.is not safety something gm has on its' priority list. Driving with no ability to know how fast or slow you are traveling is definitely an issue.i request an investigation be launched to determine the cause of this defect, which i have no doubt will result in a gm recall to repair this safety issue.
2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext. Rpm gauge stop working and then now the rpm and speedometer is not working. I found a number of reports from others online stating that their rpm and speedo also stopped working. I have seen no recalls on this problem. I have no idea how fast i'm traveling.
Pulling into traffic flow from a stop to 45 mph within a short distance the speedometer on my wife's 2004 chevrolet trailblazer indicated i was doing 75 mph. Continuing at the traffic flow speed of about 45 with slight slowdowns and speedups for approximately1.5 miles the speedometerclimbed to 85 mph. When i came to a stop it went to 80 mph. Then, accelerating to 35 mph, it now read 105 mph. When i reached my destination and shut off the truck it went to 80 mph not 0. Truck has 43,000 miles on it.*
As i was driving down the road the speedometer quit working.
Speedodometerand rpm clusters malfunctions,why
I bought my 2004 trailblazer ext 7 months ago everything was working fine for about 5 months until my tachometer got stuck in a downward position last weekend i ran out of gas even though the meter displayed 1/2 tank full. I've talked to the dealer and they said i would have to send the panel to gm plus 300 dollars to get repaired and i cant drive my vehicle until the panel is returned because the mileage has to stay the same. If this is an ongoing problem why cant gm come up with a solutioninstead of just taking people money with all of these problems.

My air/heat on occasion has not worked.this happened a few times where i would turn on the system and everything would sound like it was on but nothing would blow out at all.my vehicle is of course out of warranty and i went to my mechanic who said this is an on going issue with many gm vehicles.currently my unit is not working again.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext. While driving in the rain, the moisture sensitive wiper system did not detect moisture. As a result, the wipers started to malfunction and operated uncontrollably. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v046000 (visibility/wpier). The failure mileage was 65,000.
I opened the rear access to my trailblazer and was about to shut it i reached my hand up and started to pull the hatch down.i had moved it about an inch when the back window "exploded" sending a shower of glass down over me and my five year old son.it shot glass fragments 10 feet.i had glass in my hand and my hair.son was behind me and luckily he did not receive any injuries.people heard it noise inside the building.the vehicle was clear of ice and snow and it was 20 degrees out, ( not terribly cold comparably).i had never had trouble with the glass or the rear access before.the glass did not have a nick or a scratch.i took pictures of the mess.
The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext.while driving 55 mph the top molding on the rear window suddenly detached from the vehicle.the weather conditions were cold and windy.the dealer stated that the failure was the contact's fault.the current and failure mileages were 78,000.
The windshield wipers were on all the time. Switching them off did nothing. The wipers still ran.
2004 chevrolet trailblazer ext- windshield washer unit will not turn off, even with ignition turned off and key removed.had to remove fuse to shut the system down.certain 2003 trailblazer models had recall for this same defect.
