While driving all lights are lost, turn signals and hazard warning, airbag light lights, battery lightlights, engine speed is reduced no power to engine or electrical system. This problem has been intermittent since i purchased this vehicle.
Check engine light comes on you are driving and now power to engine or elec. System. Had code check states map sensor and cool temp sensor changed them still does it. Car will just stall or you can race motor to 5 rpms and only goes 25 mph this is a hazard.

Wiring harness to air conditioner chaffed, touched body of tire well and burnt out fuse and harness. Vehicle only 2002 chevrolet tracker 44,000 miles and was not covered under any warranty at all. Even though no harm or eventful incident happened, i feel that this is a defect, this should not have gone out in 3 years time.

I was driving to work one night when my right front tire felt like its was going to fall off i slowed down and pulled off on the side of the road could not find out why it was doing this when the tire was fine. So i drove very slowly with my caution lights on to and from work because as long as you did under 40 it didn't feel like that. The next day i had a mechanic take a look at it and he couldn't figure out what was wrong with it until he drove the car and it got up to about 50mph then he pulled over and found the problem which was that the crossmember and lca attachment bracket had rusted so bad it broke free and there was nothing holding the lower arm and tire in place this made me upset because i just had the car inspected four months earlier.and they did not catch this, so we brought it back to the mechanic that inspected it andhe bought a new part for it and it was good but it was starting to rusting out on bottom part below the doors and around the tires then just a week or so ago the timing belt broke and that's how i found out about this recall and i want to know why i was not informed of this and as of date 5/28/13 i only have 137,003 mileage on my tracker.
Our chevy tracker was purchased new in oct 02. The first time the oil was changed the vehicle would not start back up imediatly. After spinning the motor over for several minutes it did start but smoked severley. This problem has persisted since that date. The repair tech. At chevrolet agrees that the valves in the cylinder head are sticking open causing the vehicle to not have the compression to start. But after three attempts to repair they have failed and cannot find the problem what do i do?????????????

While driving 55 mph vehicle caught on fire .the dealer stated the oil filtermalfunctioned, causing oil to leak onto the motor and transmission. No injuries reported.
I have a 2002 chevy tracker which was having problems with vibration when braking vehicle.took car to a chevy dealership to request inspection and repair of the vibrating brakes with a front end alignment and requested an inspection of the engine due to engine cutoff during idling while braking at a stoplight. Mechanic failed to inspect or say anything about a possible defect of the front suspension crossmember rusting.gm sales manager and gm staff failed to inspect my tracker or say anything to me about this known defect or the possible danger of the arm rusting and falling off. They failed to notify me by a letter and failed to notify me in person when i brought in my tracker for a vibration problem with the brakes. They knowingly let me drive my car with this possible defect even after their mechanic failed to fix the front brakes which continued to vibrate when i drove away.several months before this incident, gm has only mailed an offer letter to me offering a trade-in, but mentioning nothing about inspecting the defective crossmember or fixing it as part of their special program.total irresponsibility from gm and their dealerships. Nhtsa performed and recordeddefect investigation of the chevy tracker. The nhtsa action number is ea06018. Summary includes, "in october 2007, gm initiated a special coverage program for all my 1999 through 2004 chevrolet tracker vehicles sold or currently registered in salt-belt states. The program extends the warranty coverage for front suspension crossmember corrosion to 10 years or 150,000 miles".since 2007, gm has failed to notify me of the 2007 special coverage program. Gm again failed to notify me of this free inspection and repair program when i brought in my car to their dealership for inspection of a vibration problem with the brakes and engine, knowing the mileage on the tracker and the knowing the my 2002. They charged me for front end alignment and for brake work which did not fix the problem.
The engine of my 2002 chevy tracker would make clicking noises. I first brough in my vehicle for service approx. 2 months ago. Then a week or so after i got my vehicle back, the clicking noise from the engine is back. I then brough teh vehicle back to my gm dealership and they said it was fine, but i don't accept their answer. Eventhough there's no injuries leading from this incident, but i'm afraid it would cause greater harm in the future.
While driving all lights are lost, turn signals and hazard warning, airbag light lights, battery lightlights, engine speed is reduced no power to engine or electrical system. This problem has been intermittent since i purchased this vehicle.
Consumersmelled a loud odor coming fromexhaust fan that smelled like a boiled egg.she had takenvehicleto the dealer3 times.presently, dealer claimed could notfix it.they did not know wheresmell was coming from.
I lost everything. I was driving on highway 20 in lasalle and a old man in a bmw was high beaming me, i slowed down and switched to the rige truck lane. He sped up in the middle lane and gave me a hand signal to pull over. I exited off the highway and parked the truck. I went in the back and didn't see anything bizarre, but still trying to figure out what the old man saw. I went back in the truck and put it in reverse and felt the truck hesitating while backing up, now i put it in drive, samething truck hesitating. I turned the truck off and opened the hood and all i saw were flames all over the engine, air intake, around the battery and especially around the dipstick for the transmission. Within 15 minutes my whole truck that i put 2 and a half years worth firemen took 25 minutes at least, while the cops came in 10 min. By the time the cops came the truck was already half burnt. My girlfriend was with me going crazy. Its gone, all gone. Rebuilt the transmission, changed rack and pinion, change exhaust line complete from front flex pipe right to the rear tail pipe, front and rear suspension completely changed, built in an iphone charger and this is what i get, to find out 2 weeks before christmas that this truck is overloaded with recalls due to bad gas filter fitting, and short circuit in driverside door. Thank u gm for wishing me a merry christmas..................................
Driver's side handle fell apart while opening the door.now must open door from outside.
Problems persist in front end alignment strong vibration in front end requiring me to pull over to the side of the road.also there is a lose of acceleration pressing gas pedel does nothing the speed gradually drops.this problem is intermittent and there is no clear pattern of what may or may not cause the problem.am in the process of taking it to 2nd dealership to figure out whats wrong. The first one did find out the reason my front end keeps pulling is because the rims are bent.my car has broken down twice in one year less than 3 months apart.this is the worst vehicle i have ever purchased and its still under warranty.
Gear shift ring came loose, and consumer couldn't stopvehicle. Consumer had to pullemergency brakes to stopvehicle.dealer is looking into the problem.
The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tracker. The contact stated that the drivers seat belt clip did not release from he buckle. The contact was unable to use the drivers seatbelt. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 104,000.
The driver seat leans toward the door. Vehicle was taken to the dealer last year.dealer removed and inspected the seat.nothing was wrong with the seat, but when the seat was put back in the vehicleit leaned toward the door.manufacturer stated there was nothing that could be done.
Rear brakes keep failing, they failed yesterday for the third time in about 8,000 miles.they also discontinued a part for the rear brakes.cannot find the part anywhere.was driving and heard a noise coming from the left rear, pulled over and it was the brakes.have to pump the brakes to stop.
The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tracker. The contact stated that the vehicle did not stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The front end swerved and the contact had to apply extreme force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed extensive rust on the frame and that the cross member was fractured. The vehicle was unable to be driven due to the failures. The manufacturer was notified. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 134,000.
My chevy tracker has a broken crossmember/subframe/k-frame. Front suspension arms are mounted to this piece, it is the most important mounting point. It completely broke while driving, luckily at a very slow speed, no maj. Injury. Gm knows the bad part was in every tracker/vitara -they say it wasn't treated properly, had no drain holes. There is a bulletin to replace this part (#06186),10 years or 150k miles -which specifies the repair is covered if "displays the condition of" having the defect within that period. Fuller gm dealer agrees "clearly had the problem within the period based upon condition now". I've suffered the run-around between sr rep on the phone, and the local gm dealer. All say "would repair it if the other would". Gm by phone says it's up to the local, local says gm has to authorize repair.they all univ. Agreed with facts: had the problem within the bulletin's definition, yet insist there's no way for them to help, "the period is up" -which is a contradiction! this is an extremely dangerous failure, far worse than the ignition switch recall. In those cases, the car can still function with an aware driver. The tracker failure is catastrophic. Gm saysbulletin notice mailed out told owners to check for the "signs" every year, but only sent out one notice -not to the next owners (most manufs send notices for new owners)! owner of my car who maybe saw the notice died, so we had no warning to check for "signs". Every gm rep says that's their "regrettable policy". Gm and local fuller gm have wasted many hours/weeks of time, directing response. To all others, saying will help and call back, not one has. Gm says "there's no recall because it wasn't a popular vehicle"*! i offered to pay for part, or work, meet halfway, they did not even consider.i want mine repaired +gm to admit responsibility. Please help, thanks!*all quotes actually said by gm.

Not long after purchasing my new 2002 tracker 2002, a glob of brown sticky stuff dropped from the brake to the car floor. When depressing the brake pedal, an irritating squeaky noise is produced. The dealer checked this out and said something in the brake wall had to be replaced. It took about a month to get and it was replaced.within a week the squeak returned and has remained. What is this problem?

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tracker.while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact heard a loud popping noise, when he lost power steering making it difficult to control the vehicle.a private mechanic informed the contact that the cross member of the front suspension was corroded. The dealer was notified andinformed the contact that they would be repair the cross member; however, the upper control arm was corroded and the warranty would not cover the procedure. My mother and i was driving on the expressway and it seemed as if the car just lunged forward sharply and made us swerve a little. I pulled over and seen that the car was sitting "off" a little. We towed it home and my step dad looked at it and said the car had rusted through the subframe. The subspension subframe crossmember part could of killed us. She bought this car at 29 miles from dave white cheverolt in 2001. Nothing was sent to us from the manufacture or the dealership about this part being a dangerous part. It was to be replaced i heard if the car reached 150,000 miles or 10 plus years. She had this car for both and was not notified. The dealershipwill not replace the part. We had it towed this weekend and the dealership will not replace the part for free.

I have a 2002 chevy tracker that has displayed a catastrophic failure of the front crossmember. This is as described in the closed investigation nhtsa action number: ea06018. I was driving down the road all of a sudden every time i pressed the brakes my tracker veered to the rightinto the other land and started to shake tremendously. I could not drive the vehicle with out it constantly shaking. I had it towed to a mechanic who informed me the vehicle suspension cross member bar had rotted out and was completely full of rust. After a full inspection i was told from the mechanic that my car is mechanically sound and there is no other rust anywhere in the vehicle. The mechanic told me about a recall with this part. My 2002 chevy tracker has just over 85000 miles . I contacted the gm dealership and they said because the warranty expired in 2012 there was nothing i could do even though it was well under the mileage limits. I recently inherited this vehicle from my mother in-law who was very sick with cancer. She did not drive the vehicle since january of 2012 due to her being extremely sick. I have all the documents of her vehicle and all her paperwork. She never received a recall for this part. I don't want gm. To fix this since i have my own mechanic but feel they should warranty the part. When i contacted them they said there is no recall on the part just a extended warranty they were offering. After looking at your website i see that there most defiantly was a recall and this vehicle never got fixed . I cant say whether the recall letter got lost in the mail or was never sent. They said the national traffic safety administration does recall not the dealership and there was no recall they were just offering an extended warranty. After a year of repairs including muffler system, front sway bar, shifter cable and alternator, i finally got to drive my chevy tracker and noticed immediately a shake (4/12) that night, the oil pan developed a leak. I finally saved up enough to get that fixed in 1/13, i still noticed a shake, but needed to get the brake lines repaired. I did that and still noticed the shake and it was getting worse. Thought the calipers needed to be bled so brought it back to the shop. My repairman noticed that the front arm suspension bracket was rusted through. Did a little investigation on line and discovered the special warranty from chevy regarding this problem and many many complaints from fellow customers. I called chevy on 3/14/13 and was told that my vin number didn't match the recall. I called my local chevy dealer and was told that the vin number did match the recall, but i was late because the recall expired in 2012. I just want to know why i wasn't notified as this is a very dangerous situation and chevy was well aware. Had i known, i would have taken care of it right away.

Vehicle can not be kept on road, it wanders all over the road uncontrollably and dealer tells me this is the way they all drive. It is unsafe to drive and chevrolet refuse to do anything else to correct the problem. I have even wanted them to send me to another dealer to get it rechecked and they refused. ****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis***761604

Front suspension crossmember for chevy trackeris nothing but rust. It won't pass inspection and the garage said there must have not been a coating put on it for it to be rusted through and falling apart.
The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tracker. The contact stated that while having routine maintenance performed, she was advised that all of the cross members were corroded. The technician stated that the bushings, and the front and center cross members needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, who stated that the statute of limitations for their voluntary program mentioned in nhtsa action number: ea06018 (suspension) had passed and the vehicle was no longer eligible for repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 84,849. Updated 12/23/13*lj
The front driver side tire was wearing excessively. As a result of a defect in the front end of the vehicle.consumer had rotated front driver side tire twice, and they both wore out. The front driver side tire was the only tirewearing excessively.tsdealership stated vehicle does not have a defect, but had offered to monitor vehicle and replace the front tire if the failure reoccurred after the next 5000 miles.
Received a letter from gm stating that my 2002 chevy tracker might have a corrosion problem with the front suspension cross member because it did not receive adequate corrosion protection.corrosion may progress over time therefore causing the front lower control arm bracket to separate from the crossmember. I brought my car for the free inspection and found out my car did indeed have this problem.the letter states that the crossmember will be replaced at no charge. I was told by the shop manager that this would cost me between $1200 to $1500 and that gm will only cover the cost of the part ! i am puzzled??? why should i have to pay any part of this ??? should gm be responsible for the entire bill ???
The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tracker.while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact heard a loud popping noise, when he lost power steering making it difficult to control the vehicle.a private mechanic informed the contact that the cross member of the front suspension was corroded. The dealer was notified andinformed the contact that they would be repair the cross member; however, the upper control arm was corroded and the warranty would not cover the procedure. The manufacturer was contacted and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The current and failure mileages were 117,004.

Have been unhappy with squealing of tires since the beginning, but when the air pressure was checked it was always at the pressure on the door sticker-26 pounds.not only noise but seemed to be bad traction-skids to halt rather than stops on wet and dry pavement, especially on decline.6/11/02totally out of control, no traction.went to dealership, they told me 26 pounds was too low, the tires needed more air.when i brought to their attention that the door sticker says 26, they said they coulodn't tell me to put in more than what's on the sticker, but the tires needed more air.called general motors talked with a pat lewellen(my request number s1=909) who called the dealership, talked with the service manager brian cook who told her exactly what he had told me, that more air shouldgo in the tires.she also could not tell me to add air because of the door sticker, so she gave me the number for uniroyal. Ken fedyck-told me that i could put in a couple of extra pounds if i wanted to but not too much because if i overinflate there could be center wear, in any case he also could not tell me to put in anything over26 pounds, it was my decision, "it's up to me as the consumer".i do not think the safe level oftire pressure, when wrong levels cause bad traction and skidding, should be "up to the consumer" to guess.if i guess wrong, i or someone else might die.if the tires need more pressure to be safe, then it should be what is on the door sticker.this is a dangerous practice.
My drivers side window doesnt want to roll up or down unless i pull on it while pressing the button to roll it up.once up, it doenst close all the way and you can hear the air coming in.in cases that it does go up all the way, the motor sounds as though it is still trying to make the window roll up and i have to crack it open in fear that it is going to shatter!the window has been fixed 4 times by the dealer and now my warranty is up and they dont want to hear anything more from me about it untill i agree to pay to have it looked at and fixed and they "might" reimburse me.is there anything i can to with this?i have been trying to get chevy to fix it correctly since 2003.the second mechanic told me "its made cheaply and this will probably happen again and again".there should be no reason that i should have to deal with a vehicle that i have had this problem with since the first few months of purchase.
I've had to replace the o2 sensors every 2 years as they are defective.i have owned the vehicle since 2004 (12 years) so i've replace the o2 sensors ( all 3) 6 times.has this happened or been reported by any other owners?
While driving 30 mph the accelerator cable became stuck and thevehicle accelerated at a high speed. This caused lost of control of vehicle and resulted in the vehicle flipping over three times. Consumer sustained back injuries as a result. Consumer feels this was caused due to the defect stated in a recall:accelerator cable casting cap 03v512000.the consumer's vehicle was outside the remedy scope.
The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tracker. The contact stated that there were no screens covering the air conditioning vents. As a result, a mouse entered the vents, contaminated the area and caused the blower motor to blow out. The air conditioner stopped functioning in response to the blow out. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who ran a diagnostic test and stated that the blower motor and assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 64,000.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 10 mph smoke was observed coming from the dash and antifreeze leaked into the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the heater core.three months later, while driving 30 mph the same thing happened again.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined the heater core needed to be replaced again.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicles driver side electric window took two hands to roll up or down, with one hand on the window button and the other hand pressing weight against the window.the service dealer determined there was only one screw that held the window.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer on five occasions for this issue.
Power window on driver's side quit working.rolling the window up takes both hands.must use one hand on power window button and the other to put the window back on the tracks when it falls off.
Power windows drop forward and refuse to work. Have worked about 4 months since i boughtthis vehicle. A 2002 chev. Tracker. I bought in nov. 2001.
When i first bought car(used) driver side window would not roll up all the way.dealer fixed.now 3 years later, same problem came back, something wrong w/molding causing window to shift off track and not go roll up straight w/out guidance of my hands. Usually if my husband spraysinto the track/molding it will go up a couple times on it's own.
