I need up on the dash board when the firemen and emt go on the scene they told us to lean the seats all the way back incase the air bags later deployed and they never did!i ended up getting 2 back surgeries due to that accident on4/23/07 in my 2001 chevy tracker which the airbags never went active and it was a bad impact! there was a police report made of the accident as well.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tracker. While driving at approximately 35 mph, oil leaked from the vehicle. The contact also noticed white smoke coming from the engine and smelled a strong oil odor. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 94,000. Updated 02/12/16*ljthe consumer stated the valve covers leaked oil onto the exhaust and caused smoke to emit from the engine. Updated 03/07/16.

The entire undercarriage has rotted, including the brake lines, oil lines and antifreeze coolant lines. I do not believe this is normal for any car, even though the car is 12 years old. It was happening to the previous owner but he was reluctant to report it...i am not. I have owned the car only for about 4 months now. I have had to replace some of the coolant lines and some of the brake lines. Now the oil lines are leaking heavily and i am going to have to have them replaced as well. Also, the previous owner said that when a passenger tried to use the seat belt it completely locked up on the front passenger side. I have not been able to have a passenger in the front seat because it is illegal to have a passenger ride without a seat belt. I feel that the car should b e repaired by general motors since i feel the steel used in building this car was not properly coated, thereby causing this severe deterioration of the undercarriage. I had to be towed when the brakes failed going down rt. 739 in pennsylvania, just before a huge hill/downgrade in the roadway. Now the coolant lines are leaking due to rust and so are the oil lines.

While driving within the city in winter, the windshield suddenly became fogged over and the smell of coolant was noticed inside the vehicle.i was unable to see out the windshield and had to pull over.after parking i noticed a small drip of coolant under the center console.a local independent garage found the heater core to be ruptured.the heater core was replaced.

My fan rumbled from day one.within a month, it began hitting the radiator.the dealer said snow and ice had bent it.they beat it back into shape.another month goes by, and the same thing occurs.this time the dealer blames it on rocks.i requested to speak to a factory rep., but was never contacted.now my cooling unit has a hole in it from the fan blades, and needs repair.i am being told this is not a dasign error, and i must pay for all expenses out of my pocket.why buy a new vehicle and all the extra insurance, if the factory isn't held liable.

The paint on my 2001 chevy tracker is forming white spots on the roof of the car. Is this a paint defect? i wax my car four times a year and wash it weekly, so poor care for the vehicle isn't a problem. When i turn on the a/c, it sounds like someone's clicking a computer mouse at a 100mph. It drives me nuts. When my car is idling after startup, it makes a clunking noise. While driving my car recently on the highway, it was very hard to control and i was only going 70mph. Sometimes the steering wheel never turns back either, while parking. My car is a 2001 chevy tracker with only 54,700 miles on it. I am thinking about writing a letter to gm to have all my problems resolved at no cost to me.

The consumer smelled gas from the vehicle, and the vehicle made a loud noise, the dealer stated there was no problem.

The timing chain broke-while driving 55 mph on 3 lane highway. The engine just stopped, no warning- as it stopped the check engine light went on. Was in slow lane and could coast to breakdown lane.could have caused an accident.

Problems with vehicle shutting down when shifting and stopping. *mr the vehicle would die when the consumers foot was taken offthe gas.the vehicle would die when shifting and stopping.the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.this would be a safety hazard when going down hills and curves. *scc

4 years old, 82k miles, and the timing chains (both of them) broke.mechanic has had the car for a week waiting for a back ordered tensioner, finally got it, and the engine starts but runs very rough - mechanic says he thinks the breaking timing chains damaged the valves.timing chains aren't supposed to break at 82k miles!!!

Only after 3 years of ownership and 53,000 miles i have to replace all 26lifters in the engine.

1) normal driving in traffic2)timing chain and and/or tensioner breakage, resulting in immediate power and steering loss, with subsequent damage to valves.3) timing chain, tensioner, timing gears and valves all had to be replaced.

The engine knocks and rattle when it is first started sounds like there is either a valvtrain or piston slap problem in the engine. Also the air conditioning has this odor that is really nasty to smell when you first turn on the unit. The brake pads have been replaced twice within the last year and the rotors have been replaced as well.dt

The exhaust system, specifically the resonator canister on the tail pipe, corroded through forming a hole. This allowed exhaust gases to exit under the vehicle. The exhaust leak could have resulted in carbon monoxide entering the passenger compartment and causing illness, injury or death. The corrosion results from a design defect that allows exhaust condensate to pool in the resonator and corrode the metal. This is the third new exhaust system replaced within 5 years. This defect was observed on every single chevy tracker. The exhaust system was replaced under warranty.

Defroster became inoperable during cold weather.this condition resulted in water condensate forming on the inner windshield, side windows and back window and caused poor visibility.poor visibility could have resulted in a possible accident, injury or death.the dealership found the a/c electrical circuits to be defective and a fuse blown.this is know condition for this vehicle, and a tsb was found on this problem. The vehicle was repaired by the dealership, however the repair was refused to be covered under warranty.

Brake pedal goes all the way to the floor on start up after car sits for a few hours in sub-zero (f) temperatures. The only way to stop is with emergency brake. Pedal returns to normal after car warms up. First occurred on 1-16-04, brought car to dealer who found nothing wrong, happened again 1-26-04. Bringing car back to dealer today. This is a very dangerous problem.

Whenbrakes waere appliedpedal was normal, but there was extended stopping distance. Dealer has inspected vehicle, and could not duplicate or correctproblem. Please provide additional information.

Rear main seals are letting go, causing all pressure to be put on the front brakes.consumers mom had the same problem with her 2000 tracker.once consumer purchased the 2001 year of the same vehicle, her father informed consuemr to have the system checked. Upon checking, consumer found out that the same failure her moms vehicle experienced was also showing signs on the 2001 version.consumer would like for gm to recall the failing parts.*jg

When braking, car veered to the left while the steering wheel rotated clockwise as for a right-hand turn.i called mr. Downer oct.16, front cross member was replaced.cnl

2001 chevy tracker with rusted front cross member.the cross member rusted and broke leaving the lower a arm disconnect from the frame on one end.this causes an uncontrollable shake and totally out of control. This is extremely dangerous, especially at highway speeds.i contacted a chevy dealer and also general motors and was told that there is nothing that can be done because the special coverage offer had expired.the special coverage was for 10 years or 150,000 miles.my tracker has 59,450 miles but was rejected because of a time limit.i was never sent a notice because i was not the original owner and didn't buy it from a gm dealer.gm could have queried each state's registration databases for ownership.i was told by gm that i could have brought it in and had it inspected.how would i have known to bring it in for inspection if i am unaware that a potential structural problem exist. This is a structural item that should outlast the drive line and body ... To limit it by time or mileage is absurd and shrugging responsibility.the very last thing that should fail is the structure.i argued that it is a factory defect and should have no time limit because it is a structural item which when failed could cause an accident and possible death and property damage.and i feel that the factory should be liable for the entire life of the vehicle.if it is otherwise road worthy and meets state inspection then the special coverage should apply.it is the factory's responsibility to provide safe vehicles.with a computer model, knowing the grade of steel, the thickness of the steel one can calculate the approximate time it would take to rust through.this is why there should be no time limit for responsibility.

Nar 02/28/2003mr defective steering system.

Consumer states vehicle is making a rattling noise.appears to be coming from steering wheel.vehicle also vibrating excessively while driving affecting control.checked by dealer who could not determine problem.

Inside tie rod end do not line up properly with outside tie rod ends are fine and in a sharp turn it cause the front to shake very bad i can lift 300 lb and it took everything i had to control it from rolling over. Mechanic said i muscled the metal in to place and damage both inside tie rods ends only. I have no replaced them yet not sure what to do. I if i had not been strong enough to bend the medal there would have been a wreck. I been know break and bend parts like this before.

After i clocked my 500 miles of driving my veheicle at 50 to 55 miles per hour. I took it on the road. It was at this time i actually thought the wheels were going to run off the veheicle. They wer wobbly. It also and still is hard for me to hold the veheicle in the road. It is one year later i have also developed a medical problem with the thing. I have carried it to the dealers on at least four times. The thing is dangerous it also act as though it wants to turn over if you are on the highway and driving more than 45 miles per hour. The dealers are aware of these problems i have been having with this veheicle. I am about to let it be reposessed. I just can't take anymore. I have never driven a veheicle i am afraid of. The worst part is i like to travel and since i have had all of these bad experiences with the vehicle i want or am afraid to put it back on the open road. I told the dealers there was something wrong with the steering of the veheicle. They just seem to take it in and send it out with the same problem and tell me the wind is doing it. Well, i think no one should make a veheicle that can not stand the gust of the wind at about 5 miles per hour. Please help. I have been living in a total hell zone since my purchse of this veheicle one year ago. Please help me.nlm

Consumer was complaining about steering universal shaft assembly problem.when turning in either direction steering wheel doesn't return to the fixed position. Instead, driver must pull the wheel manually in order to straighten out the vehicle.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

While drivingbolt on tie rodcame loose, causing front wheel to cave in.

When turning right, the vehicle was able to tilt and lose control.after having had work done several times on the vehicle the problem was still unidentifiable. The consumer wanted the dealership to take the vehicle back and refund her money, because the car wasdefective. The consumer stated the brakes and tires were replaced to help alleviate the problem, but it continued. Also the vehicle had an alignment, and that did not help.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tracker.while driving approximately 25 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle aggressively turned to the right without assistance when the brake pedal was depressed.the failure occurred without warning.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they stated that the front cross member was rusted.there was a manufacturer extended warranty on the vehicle; however, the vehicle was excluded from the warranty due to the excessive mileage.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact was concerned of the safety risk involved.the failure mileage was 175,000.

Keep writing frame under parts but it keeps dissappearing. The last act is the motor mount rusting through droping the engine and putting a hole in the oil pan. The whole underside of the vehicle has rusted. The crossmember did and was replaced.but the rest of the frame has also rusted. The middle support for the car is almost completely gone. The oil pan was replaced when it rusted though. All brake and tranny lines are failing. Rear end cover almost is rusted through and is leaking. Other supports and joints are failingalong with the back bumper. Both rocker panels under the front doors are rusted through. It would be easier writing what is not rusted.have been a chevy owner all the time driving, they sold it even thoughsomeone else made it stand by it.

Consumer called complaining about having problems with air gets trap inside of the vehicle. Also stated that when consumer is driving more then 50 mph it blows her out of the road. Dealer was contacted and stated that is the way the vehicle is made and that she needs to be carefull where she drives and how she drives. Ts

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tracker. The contact stated that the front end of the frame exhibited significant rust and corrosion. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they welded the damaged frame for a temporary repair and advised that the vehicle was not safe to drive. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. Updated 07/08/11

I purchased a 2001 chevrolet tracker lt used with 109k miles. The vehicle was sold to me by a dealership without safety inspection stickers. I took the vehicle to my mechanic to have it inspected and was told the frame was rotted, including the front frame, suspension and side rocker panels. The dealership did not disclose the damage to me and refuses to refund the cost of the vehicle or make the repairs.i am currently trying to have the issue mediated by the pa state attorney general's office. I am also aware that chevrolet has a safety notice on the front suspension of 2001-2003 chevy trackers indicating that the front suspension may rust and separate from the vehicle. The inspection period on my vehicle is expired and the vehicle is unsafe to drive.

We have a 2001 chevy tracker with the rusted crossmember/subframe that chevrolet won't repair.i think this is definitely a safety issue.i called chevy reps. And all i got was " were sorry" but the car is 1200 miles over the limit for repairs.we took ours to our local mechanic for regular maintenance and they found the rusted crossmember and advised us to not drive the vehicle,it was not safe.so now we without a very needed car.

The car was steering funny and pulling to the left especially when braking. I heard a metal bang noise at one point and made an appointment to have it checked where the mechanic was shocked to find the crossmember subframe fractured which would have certainly lead to a serious accident and i was "lucky" to have made it to the garage.

My wife was on her way to work when she stopped at a stop sign, the car veered to the left and was hard to steer. I was at a friends house and she brought the vehicle over there for me to check out. After lifting the front end, the right side lower control arm fell off of the crossmember. After closer inspection, the entire crossmember is rusted through. If the control arm had fallen while she was driving, the car may have flipped causing injuries or possibly death. Chevrolet knew about this problem since at least december of 2006 and issued a special coverage bulletin. I never received a letter informing me of any problem. After calling the gm consumer help desk, i was informed that they would not be covering my vehicle due to the mileage. Since this is not a part which is subject to wear and tear it should be covered under a time , not mileage, constraint if any, since this is a safety issue.

My front suspension crossmember completely corroded and cracked in half making my car not drivable.i located the special coverage program online as this appeared to be a common occurrence.i am the 2nd owner.i purchased this car from a woman who resides in assisted living and had been in assisted living since the special coverage notice. As she did not have a driver's license, this vehicle sat in her garage without the needed repair covered by gm until her family sold it to me in june.after a 90min call with a gm rep 10/20/14, i spoke with gm supvr [xxx] who assured me gm would cover cost to tow to the closest dealership as well as cover the repair.he left a vmail for the dealer but did not specify this offer.i left 5 unreturned vmails for [xxx] until i spoke with supvr [xxx] 10/22/14.[xxx] adv she would have her direct report may place a request for consideration stating this would need to be approved and [xxx] should not have promised to cover this repair.10/27/14 [xxx] 866-760-5700 [xxx] called and very curtly advised this will not be covered and sarcastically reminded me of the expiration of said "special coverage."i requested [xxx] supervisor and [xxx] advised "let me tell you what he will say..he will say 'no'.."i asked for [xxx] supervisor again and was told she would have that person call me.10/30/14 as i have not received a call back i called gm and after 21min i was directed to another rep. The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tracker.while driving a loud bump was heard, the steering wheel began to shake and the vehicle pulled to the left.the repair shop stated that the cross members on the right side of the vehicle were severed. The vin, engine size and speed were unknown but will be added to the hardcopy.the current and failure mileages were 144,000.

While backing up out of my driveway, i heard an odd sound and the vehicle pulled to the left.i stopped the car and was told by my son to not drive it until he looked at it.i am 77yr and he was worried about his mother getting into an accident.my son said the front suspension crossmember rusted in half and the car was not drivable. I have contacted gm at 800-222-1020 based on the nhtsaaction number : ea06018. The representative told me there was no recall for this part, however your website contradicts that statement.you have my permission to speak with [xxx] regarding this matter.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My mechanic advised me that the front suspension cross member is rusted to the point the it will snap off. When i make a right hand turn or go over bumps i can hear cracking noises.contacted chevy (gm) was advised that i am 4 years too late in contacting them. Asked about the recall, they told me it was a silent recall.and because i live in a state that has snow and ice this contributed to the problem. I advised that is this is the case then every car in this state would have the same problem.following is from gm's website:" front suspension cross member did not receive adequate corrosion protection.the result of this condition may be most noticeable on vehicles driven in areas where rust is most common, such as areas where salt is used to control snow and ice.the corrosion may advance and cause rust-through perforation of the cross member in the area of the left or right front lower control arm attachment brackets.as the corrosion progresses the cross member will become thinner and the attachment brackets and the perforations will grow in size.if there are substantial amount of perforations, the left and right front lower control arm attachment brackets will become weakened and begin to flex.if this occurs, the customer may notice front tire wobble, steering looseness, vehicle pull to one side, front end noises (clunk, bang, rattle, etc) vehicle shaking, or steering wheel rotation when shifting from reverse to drive and drive to reverse.

Passenger front lower control arm mounting bracket has detached from the front crossmember. Happened today march 28th 2017. Vehicle was originally sold and driven in north missouri. Does have considerable rust, but didn't know the suspension mounting point would break free? i was a few blocks from my residence when it happened and no injuries occurred. It happened on north side dr. In fort worth,tx. Overcast, dry pavement on traffic. I hit bumps on railroad crossing and quite a few potholes.

In june 2011, car was almost 10 yrs. Old and had 99,919 miles on it. Brought it to dealer for 100,000 mile tune-up and other work.asked them to check out entire car, and saw banners for 24 point inspection if i added tire rotation...so i did. In sept. 2014 (cars 13 years old and has 113, 000 miles on it) i'm told that front suspension crossmember will need to be replaced (soon).when i went online to find the part, first site i see tells me about gm's "special warranty" on that part.i check my dealer receipt and realize the rusted part should've been replaced, for free, back in 2011.now, it's actually busted through and can not be driven safely. Contacted gm/dealer, car was towed to dealer and back home.gm/dealer will not pay for replacement because all that rust happened in the last 3 (ish) years, not in the close to 10 years it was driven for close to 100,000 miles on chicago area streets which are heavily salted.the streets up here are sanded and in the last 3 (ish) years i've only put another 13,000 miles on the car.never seen the inside of a garage so 'parked' conditions are the same in both areas.i have filed a complaint w/the bbb so we'll see how far that gets me. Filing this complaint because gm's answer to my question of why it wasn't replaced in 2011 was that "dealers are not required to tell customers about special warranty parts".seriously???

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tracker. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle started to shake and wobble from side to side without warning. The brakes were applied and the contact was able to pull over. The vehicle was then taken to an automotive shop where it was diagnosed that the suspension cross member was rusted completely. The dealer was contacted and they did not acknowledge the failure due to the age and mileage of the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired with a new suspension cross member and control bushing. The failure mileage was 113,000 and the current mileage was 113,925.

I took my 2001 chevrolet tracker to a gmc dealership after feeling the wheel pull hard to the right every time i hit the brakes. After examining my car, i was told that the crossmember on my 6 year old car had completely rusted out , and was about to break away from the suspension. The dealership explained that the salt used to de-ice the roadways in the northeast caused the part to rust out over time. I was also told by the dealership that the car was unsafe to drive, and that i was lucky i brought it in when i did, as i could have been injured or possibly killed if the part had broken loose while driving at highway speeds.my gmac warranty did not cover the repairs of this part, and after further inspection by the mechanics at the dealership, i was informed that i would also have to replace the front stabilizing arms, which were in perfect working condition, but were unfortunately completely rusted to the crossmember they were attempting to replace. After doing some research, i found that chevy has an open investigation into whether the crossmember should be recalled, as it is a part which is manufactured by suzuki, and is known to have "insufficient rustproofing". I feel that this part should be recalled, as the investigation states that this part has rusted out on over 128,000 vehicles, and could potentially cause great harm to the driver and passengers upon failure.

10/29/2009, 2001 tracker zr2 model, vehicle traveling 50 mph with a slight right hand turn in road, west bound on hwy 26 far left hand lane. Heard a loud bang, vehicle became uncontrollable, went into right hand spin, crossed three lanes of traffic and hit concrete barricade on far right hand of hwy. Driver was slammed into window and sustained minor injuries, air bags did not deploy. Inspection of vehicle reveals damage to left rear fender, door and both wheels. Lower control arm came loose, steering rod broke in half and destroyed the rack housing. Could have died in this accident, so very lucky here.

Rear bearing wheel failed.

The blower was not adequate to fully defrost the windshield.the defroster vents were at an angle and the consumer felt that they vents were poorly positioned.*ph *nlm

The defroster failed when needed.this condition resulted in a completely obstructed windshield with reduced visibility while driving.the lost visibility could have resulted in an accident, injury or death. The a/c electrical circuits were found to have a blown fuse.a tsb was found by the dealer, and this is a known defect by gm.the fuse was replaced.

The consumer found antifreeze in the driveway, the mechanic informed the consumer the heater core failed.
