Good morning i got into my 2006 chevrolet tahoe with the above vin . The warning light started to activate. I am on notice that the air bag could activate at anytime. This will create a serious to me, my family, grandchildren, and the motoring public.
Hello the 2006 tahoe has a service airbag soon activated. It is a four wheel dr vehicle.
2006 chevrolet tahoe with defective airbag system. Consumer was stating that there is a defective airbag system for his vehicle.the consumer stated the driver and passenger side roof rail air bags inadvertently deployed.
The airbag trouble light came on shortly after i purchased the vehicle, which was used. The indicator ligh located in the rear view mirror which indicates the passenger-side airbag is off does not come on if there is not a passenger, until the vehicle has been driven approximately 30 miles.
Service air bag and service 4 wheel drive light always comes on.i know their has been a recall with this model recall # 06102 on the air bags, but this vin number doesn't come up.u-tube shows a common problem with the spring in the transfer case about service 4wd.see recall # 06v4170000 & 1233...updated 04/12/16
2006 chevy tahoe service air bag light comes on with no reason. Unplugging yellow plug in drivers kick panel, per gm tsb, works only for a short time. Problem remains.
I have a 2006 chevy tahoe z71. In late 2008 it began having electrical problems. Dvd player, battery drain/dead, stereo system, warning messages, and finally this last time my entire 4 wheel drive system malfunctioned both electronically and mechanically leaving us stranded for a weekend. We then had to drive home in the snow/ice thinking we had some 4 wheel drive because the light was on and no warning lights told us otherwise. We could of been killed with no 4 wheel drive in the mountains after a huge storm. I put trust in my tahoe and it let me and my family down and now we want it gone. It has been to the dealership for a total of 17 visits and 33 days for the various problems. Even with an extended warranty we have had to pay a lot of out of pocket expenses for repairs and rental cars. I no longer trust the vehicle. I too have had the tailgate handle issue as well. 2-3 x now. Gm needs to step up to the plate. I tried to get a new car from the lemon law but i was not eligible time wise. It seems the car is flawed and not fixable. It has less than 60k mi on it. If something happens i will hold gm responsible for not taking action.
We own a 2003 chevy. Tahoe with 45000 original miles. The oil gauge initially pegged followed by the speedometer pegging at 120 mph.other safety problems with electrical locking door.
Hello the 2006 tahoe has a service airbag soon activated. It is a four wheel dr vehicle.
2006 chevrolet tahoe tail gate will not open.the key fob is the only way to unlock it-there is no key lock on the outside of the tailgate, and to my utter shock---no interior latch to unlock the tailgate from the inside.there is also absolutely no way to unlock the window separately from the tail gate.this is a serious safety hazard.i have read numerous other complaints regarding this identical issue-and am absolutely shocked that this is not a recall issue-a recall needs to be done immediately--before someone becomes trapped in a car accident or vehicle fire.very disappointed chevrolet has done nothing to date to solve this very dangerous problem!! i now have a vehicle that is useless-and chevrolet needs to do whatever is necessary to resolve his defective and faulty equipment---immediately!
The rear door lock actuator on my tahoe has failed. My rear door does not lock at all. It is supposed to lock once i put the car in gear for safety it does not. I have the 3rd row seating and use it frequently for my kids. This is a common problem in this model and multiple complaints have been made by tahoe owners. The only place i can find a replacement part is through gm and it is expensive to replace. This is a safety issue because of defective parts.
Tahoe flashes service stability, stability sys disabled, turn signal on while driving.when the tahoe flashesservice stability and or stability sys disabled it shuts down completely. The tahoe does not like being idle or turning on the air as it will shut off completely. This is a safety issue as everything locks up and you may/not can pull over in time. I don't know if this is electrical or not. A lot of folks are looking for answers when i googled the errors.
We are unable to open the rear liftgate with the fob. So, we continued to look for a key latch and to our shock we realized it could not be unlocked manually. After a lot of frustration and anguish of trying to load groceries through the back seat and having to literally go over 3rd row seat to put groceries in cargo area, we thought how awful it would be if we needed to exit out the back door in case of an accident. We discovered we could not unlock or open the liftgate from the inside either. It gave me a very uneasy feeling as we transport children to and from school. This problem is definitely a safety issue. We contacted a local chevrolet dealer and they are not willing to even check our vehicle unless we fork over $120.00+ and then we have to wait a week for them to even look at it. This is very disheartening to us as we have always had a lot of confidence in the chevrolet name, well we are not so sure now.
2006 lift gate will not open after 68,000 miles, dealer wanted 500.00 to fix.. What a rip off also a very safety concern for children & pets...also loading issues..in short terms should have bought a (t o y o t a ) they are built to last ..end of story.. Chevy sucks.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the lift gate failed to unlock when using the key fob. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.
Not sure exactly the date it stopped working, but the tailgate will not lock.i was told that the actuator goes bad and it would cost nearly $500 to replace. So even when i lock the doors to the vehicle, access can still be gained through the tailgate.
Hvac blower motor resister.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. Upon starting the vehicle, multiple warning lamps illuminated on the instrument panel. While attempting to turn the vehicle off, the key became stuck and was unable to be removed from the ignition switch.the vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 210,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. While driving 40 mph, the wheel warning indicators illuminated. The contact detected an odor coming from the tires. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The dealer stated that there was an electrical failure. The manufacturer was not notified.the approximate failure mileage was 170,000.
Instrument cluster problems. Started with a battery light intermittently on, with a good charge on the battery and from the alternator (both confirmed with electric meter). Also having problems with the fuel gauge. Gauge shows 1/4 to 1/2 tank, and low fuel light comes on. Filling the tank at that time takes 22-23 gallons, with a 23 gallon tank capacity. Also getting a service tire pressure warning intermittently. Checking the tire pressures, all tires show 38 to 42 psi, or occasionally the lft or lrt shows --psi. Tire pressures confirmed with a tire gauge. So far all other gauges are working good.
The rear lift gate solenoid goes bad which prevents rear window and door from unlocking.i have done extensive research online and have discovered that many people are having this same issue on 05 and 06 tahoe, suburban, hummer and yukons which i'm assuming are using the same part.this seems very dangerous in case of emergency.

The tailgate actuator will not open the liftgate or glass on the tail liftgate. The vehicle has no key access on the external portion of the vehicle. On the inside of the vehicle there is no manual release for the liftgate. Currently i have no way of opening the liftgate or glass. If there is an accident now, the third row passengers have no means of exiting the vehicle. This is a serious safety concern.
My liftgate actuator failed, my car was not lockable i was told by gm that because of the age of my car it would not be covered. I was told it was not covered not in stock not order able. I was told to order it on line i did installed and failed in 11 days. The part was sold by doorman made in china. I buy american made products and i'm told by an american company to buy something made in china does that make sense?
Rear liftgate actuator has failed.safety issue with children in rear of vehicle and lack of access.there are many complaints about this same problem.gm should recall this part asap.
I came out to put some items in my tahoe, i pressed the unlock button on my remote to open the lift gate and to my surprise i could not open the door or the window!
Heater shorted out causing an electrical fire.fire engulfed the whole front of the car into the front seat.the vehicle was moving down the interstate.we had the heat on setting 4.smelled like something was burning.turned off the heater.white smoke started coming out of vents.decided to get off at next exit and get it looked at.pulled into parking lot, black smoke started pouring out of the vents.within a min. Or two the front of the car was engulfed in flames.
Horn is inoperable intermittently. Was parked in supermarket parking lot when i noticed a truck backing up out of their spot. Noticed truck was really close and when i tried honking to warn them to stop, they actually had backed into my vehicle causing their paint to rub off and crease my rear fender. I got off my vehicle to speak to the driver when they pulled forward and drove away. Took my truck to dealership for problem and was fixed due to a faulty fuse, took truck in again on 3/21/08 because horn still worked sporadically.
Warning light for "service 4 wheel drive" and "stability system disabled" has come on repeatedly due to an "ecoder motor sensor" failure.this is at least the second time replaced, maybe third.
As i was driving the car the system stabilty disabled light continues to come on. There has been no damages so far and nothing has given out or broken but the light continues to come on and no mechanic can find anything wrong with the vehicle.
Service stability light comes on and my tahoe will not move. Brakes are holding, have replaced abs module, abs valves, all brakes and rotors, master cylinder and booster. And still, i'm having the same problem! vehicle has been to midway motors a cheverolet dealer and still no answer, and it's throwing the very same codes co131 rear dump valve failure! these problems arose after driving kids to school. Had to have vehicle towed away as it would not move even when placed in neutral. Total brake lock down!
At low speed or when braking vehicle will not turn right, also when stationary, vehicle breaks traction when turning in rain
This is a fleet vehicle with multiple drivers. It has been garaged since purchased new, and frequently washed. It is infrequently used in poor weather, when roads are salted or brined, and undercarriage is rinsed after use in such conditions, intending to avoid premature undercarriage rust. In this event, the brake pedal gradually lost pressure while holding at a stop and vehicle began to roll imperceptibly. Driver initially thought seat was misadjusted from previous driver and that his applied pedal pressure was relaxing, therefore he adjusted the seat and continued driving. This was during a snowstorm, so driving was cautious anyway. The prior driver had noticed the same gradual pressure loss retroactively when asked. With 2 more hours driving (mostly highway with little need for braking), the problem worsened to the point that braking was completely unreliable and instrument cluster warnings were triggered. The problem is ruptured brake lines, due to premature rusting.
Driver fell asleep ran into the back of a semi truck, airbag did not deploy.vehicle was a total loss.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 60 mph the stability control light began illuminating on the dashboard momentarily before a power reduced message also displayed on the dashboard. During the failure, the vehicle would not accelerate beyond approximately 40 mph. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the contact was told that a module within the throttle needed to be replaced.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was120,000.the vin was unavailable.updated 03/08/11updated 1/4/11
I have a 2006 chevy tahoe z56.when i went to check the condition of the plugs and wires, i noticed there is an exhaust leak around the # 1 & # 8 manifold areas - as evident by the blackish coloring on right under the valve cover in these two areas.after further review, it was evident that the # 8 bolt had already broken off (detached head), and the #1 bolt was spinning/stripped, just ready to fall off.i am reporting this since it apparently is a common problem on these vehicles and needs to be recalled.***** as i stated, this is a 2006 tahoe with only 59,082 miles on it. This is a manufacturers defect that needs to be addressed.*******
I'm describing a potential problem on vehicles i do not own, but have seen the behavior:various late-model gm pick-up trucks and suvs (tahoe as an example) will turn on the white back-up tail-light when the owner unlocks the vehicle via remote.i believe this is very dangerous as someone driving by thinking the vehicle is backing-up, and could make a sudden stop to allow the vehicle to back out.
Bought a 2006 tahoe december 2005. Has 75000 miles on now.smelled gas in garage, drove 5 miles got out of car smelled gas really strong.called garage to come and get car, found 2.5 gallons of gas on top of the gas tank.fuel pump top and lines rusted, replaced fuel pump and gas tank straps.car was bought new, kept in heated garage, when drove in bad weather was washed, plus the under car cycle the same day then put in heated garage, car wash 1/2 mile from home.
A defect in the fuel module does not permit the vehicle to start stranding the owner wherever the module decides to quit. My vehicle has had 2 replaced in the last six months and the current module installed has an intermittent issue that the vehicle will start.
We suddenly started noticing odor and found large puddle of oil spill on garage floor. Tried to determine the cause of the leak, immediately took vehicle to dealer, where we bought it and maintenance records are kept, koons chevy, vienna va (the dealer) explained there is recall on one part (gasket) but the bearings also ruptured among other things such as the axel and differential . Chevrolet said that this is very unusual but the oil pressure switch may have been defective they just "don't know" in other words this is a serious repair warranty issue/defect that needs to be addressed. There is no recall on the other part at this time which is the oil pressure sensor, this all happened suddenly and simultaneously and there has to be a link and one thing triggered the other. The dealer does not want to honor this repair claiming that everything that is sealed and enclosed is covered but the other defective part is outside of the enclosure. Koons chevrolet wants to charge hundreds of dollars for it, and chevrolet will not take responsibility for it, and their answer was that there is no recall at the time.
Fuel gauge on dash reads improperly. Driving with what marked as 1/4 of full tank (26 gal tank which reads 20 gals plus 6 gallon reserve when low fuel light turns on or red-lining). Driving on freeway accompanied by my infant son and toddler niece, when truck completely stalled out on the #2 lane. Was able to glide over to the shoulder, turned off truck and tried turning it over when fuel light came on to indicate that i was low on gas. My primary concern is driving with children and having an incident like this happen, where fortunately no one was injured. The truck did not in any instance indicate the fuel level was low or that it was completely empty. Had problem fixed at chevy dealership, then on 3/21/08 problem occurred again where gauge is still not reading properly.
I had been smelling gasoline when standing outside the vehicle for a while.took to repair shop who found gasoline on top of the tank.when tank was dropped, it was found that the top of the fuel pump as well as all the metal lines had rusted through and fuel was leaking out.repair included new fuel lines and new fuel pump.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. While driving 30 mph, the fuel gauge displayed half a tank when the fuel tank had just been filled. The contact noticed fuel leaking underneath the vehicle. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the fuel line was corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,285.updated 11/09/15*lj
2006 chevy tahoe exit door for 3rd row seating has no manual emergency exit and also has become locked and will not open. Repair est. At 600+ dollars but still willnot provide emergency manual exit through this liftgate or window behind 3rd row seat. Extremely dangerous for children or disabled needing out incase of emergency. Ada should review this problem for disabled needing equipment and access through this door!
2006 chevy tahoe, rear hatch will not unlock/open. Window will not open as well, keyless entry so i have no other options. Safety issue as i have 5 children and there is no manual way to open the latch from the outside or inside of vehicle. Just spent $400 on a faulty acceleration sensor that went out while driving on the highway. Lost power to vehicle on the highway, another safety issue that might need to be investigated.
2006 chevrolet tahoe liftgate lock actuator quit working at around 67000 miles. There is no manual or key operated way to unlock the liftgate. It failed in the locked position which has the potential to trap someone inside in the event of an emergency. The only way to open was to crawl inside the back end of the vehicle, rip the plastic trim panels off that cover the mechanism, and then move the actuator by hand. When i took to the dealer to check out he wanted over $500 to replace the lock actuator. I read numerous other complaints of this problem on this vehicle.
2006 chevy tahoe rear lift gate or window will not unlock to open. Can not manually open from inside vehicle due to poor engineering. This is a safety hazard in my opinion. Gmc will not accept responsibility for this defect. I searched online and found tons of customers with the same problem in all makes of gm suvs. It is in my opinion this should be a recall safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. While the vehiclewas parked she noticed that the rear latch had become inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for the failure. The dealerperformed a diagnostic and advised her that the latch would need replacing. She called the manufacture and was advised that there were no recalls and referred her to the dealer for further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 164,039 and the current mileage was 165,039.
Rear liftgate actuator has failed.safety issue with children in rear of vehicle and lack of access.there are many complaints about this same problem.gm should recall this part asap.
Rear liftgate and window fail to unlock or open with keyless entry fob.there is no way to open or unlock.dealership said it was a failed actuator and almost $600 to replace.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated he was unable to open the rear lift gate automatically or manually. The local mechanic inspected the vehicle and noticed that the power lock actuator had failed. The vehicle was repaired. A local mechanic replaced the power lock actuator. The vin information was not available. The failure and the current miles were 70,000.
2006 chevrolet tahoe z71.rear liftgate fails to unlock. Keyring and door panel buttons unlock all doors, but rear liftgate remains locked. There is no key hole access onthe outside of the liftgate and there is no manual lock release in the vehicle. Liftgate panels had to be removed from the inside of the vehicle in order to access the locking mechanism and move the lock to disengage and open the liftgate. Further inspection and testing showed that locking motor works to lock the liftgate but the mechanism fails to align properly when attempting to unlock, preventing mechanism from disengaging.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the rear windows and rear lift gate would not open. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000.
2006 chevrolet tahoe w/ 3rd row seating. The liftgate lock failed without any indication that it was going out. This is very fearful for our family for which we have small children who may become trapped and unable to escape this vehicle in the event of an accident. I read 11 complaints online from other consumers with this same matter. Chevrolet are aware that these complaints are out there and know the risk in which are involved. Why should they wait until someone is seriously injured or a death occurs due to a defect on their end. I would hate for this to happen to anyone and i hope that you all can look into this. Not to mention that this particular vehicle doesn't have a key entry to unlock it as well. Please look into recalling what others have identified as the actuator. Thank you, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Liftgate unlockquit working at around 63000 miles. When i took to the dealer to check out he wanted over $125.00 to diagnose problem, $500 to replace the lock actuator, or $200.00 to unlock with no repair to locking mechanism. I read numerous other complaints of this problem on this vehicle. Gm should really acknowledge and address this problem.
2006 chevrolet tahoe hatchback & liftgate won't open.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the rear liftgate failed and he was unable to open it from the interior or exterior. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the door lock actuator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. The vin was unavailable.
2006 chevy tahoe, 63,000 miles, rear liftgate stuck in locked position.no manual way to open, in the event of an accident/emergency you can not exit from the rear seriously increasing the potential time to exit vehicle.from all the blog posts etc... This appears to be a defect in the locking mechanism itself.the right thing to do would be to identify correction and replace before someone is seriously injured or killed-one death would be one too many.
2006 tahoe rear liftgate will not unlock, nor will window open.it doesn't make any noise.there is no key hole to open manually.my grandchildren often ride in the rear seats, and they would be trapped in a collision.there is no inside handle, either.my sister-in-law has an identical model in which this has also happened.gm should in our estimation, recall and fix this problem.the most efficient fix would be to have key access to unlock.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the rear liftgate would not release when accessing from inside or outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the actuator switch was replaced. One year later after the repair was performed the failure recurred. The rear liftgate would not lock and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified, who informed the contact that there was not a recall related to the defect. The approximate failuremileage was 66,000. Updated 11/5/13
Latches/locks/linkages:hatchback/liftgate:lockjammed and stopped working and is a safety hazard!liftgate cannot be opened without significant repair at a dealer.

The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe.the contact could not open the liftgate with the keyless entry remote.there was no keyhole to open the liftgate manually, which he considered to be a safety risk.also, if someone were in the vehicle, there was nothing in the passenger compartment to press to exit from the rear of the vehicle.the dealer stated that the remote needed to be replaced.the current and failure mileages were approximately 63,000.

I have a 2006 chevrolet tahoe ls 4wd i bought brand new may 2006. I have had it in the shop 3 or 4 times because it keeps clanking/clunking loudly when i slow down or stop. It clanks when i go over a bump. If i'm driving down the road at 40mph+ and slow down to 20mph or less, then the tahoe clunks loud enough people on the street can hear it. The dealership(s) can not find the problem (one dealership had the nerve to tell me it was my 3rd row seat). It sounds as though a wheel is going to fall off or the transmission is going to drop. The last dealership replaced the hub assembly on one of the wheels, but that didn't help...still clunk, clank. I can't tell if the noise is coming from the back for sure, but it sounds like it.my warranty is about expire and i'm afraid this is going to be a major issue/problem if it's not resolved.
Vehicle with 43,000 miles experienced major transmission failure.while entering intersection, vehicle came out of gear and accelerated as if in neutral, then clunking into gear and lunging forward.maintenance schedules show that transmission requires no servicing until 50,000, yet warranty only lasts until 36,000.manufacturer is misrepresenting life of transmission causing unsafe conditions due to a defective product.
2006 chevrolet tahoe with transmission failure. Consumer states that the vehicle only had 43,639 miles on it when he experienced major transmission failure. He states the manual says there is no work needed until 100,000 miles.the transmission failed while attempting to accelerate. The vehicle sounded as if it was in neutral.the vehicle slammed into gear and lunged forward partially into the intersection.
The automatic transmission went out at 30,000 miles, the dealer said this is very unusual. $2300 to repair.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated the "service 4-wheel drive" warning message illuminated on the contact's instrumental panel. The contact repaired the selector switch for the four-wheel drive however, the contact stated that while later driving 75 mph, the vehicle independently switched from 2 -low to 4 -high. The stability track then became disabled and the rear of the vehicle began to sway abnormally. The contact took the vehicle to three independent mechanics for diagnostic testing. All of the mechanics stated that the transfer case or transfer box would need to be repaired.the manufacturer and dealer were made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 85,000.

The seatbelts in the second row do not retract properly and twist easily in the housing causing the seatbelt to not retract at all.the issue was first noticed on the passenger side when my son started sitting in a booster seat.the seat belt would not retract after taking seatbelt off.the seatbelt would have to me manually pushed into the housing in order to pull it out again to wear. One day he put his seatbelt on and it twisted in the housing and got stuck.i changed his seat to the drivers side. The seatbelt on that side also had the same retracting issue and now it also twisted in the housing making it inoperable.i contacted chevrolet and they said they could not do anything to help me due to the age of my vehicle and that i needed to call a dealer.i contacted a dealer and was told i would have to pay to have the seatbelt problem diagnosed and that i would be responsible for the repair costs.this is a seatbelt that is not working properly, it has never been used improperly or damaged by me.a seat belt should safely work for the life of the vehicle not just the warranty period.
There is a little sting that releases the back part of the dart too lay it done but those get stretched out or even broke and can no longer lay the seat down t get to the 3rd row it's a huge saftey hazard
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 30 mph, the driver side front seat retracted completely to the floor.the contact was able to place the seat back to its normal, upright position; however, the failure recurred two weeks later.the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure because they accidentally wiped out the memory module.the contact placed a 2 x 4 piece of wood behind the seat to prevent it from retracting backwards.she filed a complaint with the manufacturer.the failure mileage was 14,000 and current mileage was 14,300.
Catastrophic brake failure.brake systam started leaking.
Applied brakes to stop, and brake pedal went to the floor.the tahoe slowly stopped after pumping the brake pedal, but reluctantly. I had stopped without a problem only seconds before this incident.cause of the braking problem according to the repair shop was a broken brake line.the repair shop also indicated that all the brake lines need to be replaced due to severe corrosion problems. The mechanic said that this is a common problem with gm vehicles.as an aside, the tow truck driver who picked up the tahoe said that he has seen many vehicles with the same problem.
Have owned this tahoe since new and have had generally good service with it. I made a trip fr maine to delaware, sunday mar 9, 2014. Weather clear. At end of trip i came upon a red light. Pressed the brake pedal, and nothing happened. Went to floor. Tried pumping, and got a 1% resp and went to the floor again. Tried emer brake. Went to floor also! no traffic on this sunday so i was very lucky not to have had or caused a serious accident. When i was finally able to park the car, i lifted the hood and saw b fluid splatter everywhere. At this point, the emergency light information on the dash appeared: ck brakes, and the red circle appeared for ab brakes! but this information did not appear as the b fluid pressure was declining rapidly, when it may have helped medecide to pull over. The chevy mechanic told me that there was rust and oxidation underneath on frame. But this condition had nothing to do w/ causing the b fluid leak. The fluid was coming from one of the lines leading fr the b fluid reservoir. Either a crack developed or it separated from the protruding line extruding from the reservoir and the brake pressure force squeezed all of the fluid out thru this small hole/crack. This was a catastrophic failure and not a failure caused by salt, oxidation or wear and tear. I thank the stars for the safe conclusion of this unforgettable event esp after driving 500 miles fr maine to delaware. When i called gm cust svc in detroit, ([xxx]) gm offered no help and the simple repair bill at the gm dealer was $3400.00!!!!! the cause was either>>>material failure or poor design or poor welding/soldering. It was not caused by oxidation or corrosion. Gm was arrogant and only repeated that this problem was not covered under warranty, which expired in 2011.i hope no other tahoe owners ever suffer this type of catastrophic brake failure. The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph, the contact fully depressed the brake pedal but the brakes failed to respond. The vehicle was merged to the shoulder and the emergency brake was engaged. The contact stated that there were flames coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle was completely engulfed in flames within minutes. The fire and police departments were called. No one was injured. A police report was filed. The vehicle was completely destroyed. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they will send out a representative to inspect the vehicle. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Rusted rear brake line ruptured suddenly causing a lose of brakes, after pumping the brakes the fronts stopped the vehicle.the abs module locked the rear brakes out, making the truck only have front brakes. Every steel line on the truck was so rusted that you could grab them and snap them by hand, i had to replace every line from the master cylinder to the abs module, from the abs module to the front wheels, both lines from the abs module to the rear rubber lines, as well as both steel lines on the rear axle. This is a known common problem, i've replaced 100s of these line sets over the years. You cant replace the blown line, if you try to replace the bad line (or the bad section) it builds more pressure then blows out another spot or another line. If you replace all the tears it'll blow a front line out. When one line is bad you must replace them all, this was on my wife's truck, but i've had to tell 100s of customers the same thing. On the same years of vehicles (99-06) gm vehicles i warn people who ask about buying them to check the brake lines, frams, and to inspect the body and body mounts closely.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. While driving approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled abnormally to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brakes needed to be replaced. It was unknown if the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 32,000.
My wife was driving and suddenly the brake pedal went to the floorboard. The service brakes light illuminated as did the stability track and brake fault lights. Fortunately she was going slow and was able to maintain control without having a collision.upon inspection, i found a brake line failure in the frame, due to heavy corrosion. This occurred on a city street in a 30 mph zone.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact was driving 45 mph and fully depressed the brake pedal but the brakes failed to respond. The contact stated pumping the brakes helped slow the vehicle down.the service brake and abs brake warning lightsilluminated after the failure occurred. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a leak next to the brake reservoir and as a result, the entire brake line needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 60,000. The consumer stated the emergency brake, did not respond, either. He was finally able to stop the vehicle. When he lifted the hood, he discovered brake fluid all over the engine.the vehicle was take to a repair shop. The mechanic found one of the tubes that were attached to the brake fluid reservoir had cracked allowing the pressure to spray fluid all over the engine compartment, resulting in rapid loss of braking power.
At low speed or when braking vehicle will not turn right, also when stationary, vehicle breaks traction when turning in rain
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact was traveling 5 mph when a knocking noise was heard from the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who confirmed that the upper intermediate steering shaft needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 64,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe.the contact was driving 15 mph over a road bump when there was an abnormal thumping felt within the steering wheel. The contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer or a local mechanic. The contact stated that the defect was within the steering column.the failure mileage was 26,000.
Noise, annoying popping ticking comming from steering column.
2006 chevrolet tahoe has a power steering problem and perhaps related to the recall for this vehicle (05086). *nj the consumer stated the problem with the steering was causing a loud squealing noise when making left turns. The dealer has made several attempts to repair the problem and then they stated there was no way to make the noise go away. Recall 05v455000
Tailgate or back glass cannot be opened.they are locked, fuse good.slight click can be heard when try to open, but does not work.this is an electric lock and no way to open manually.when search on the internet hundreds of complaints could be foundabout the same problem.this is definitely a problem in the design. Hundreds of vehicles from 2005 to 2007 have experienced the same problem .i have seen recalls even for child safety sticker.i wonder why there is no recall for this problem.
Bought tahoe in 2006,noticed had to push brake peddle hard when stopping, told several different dealers about it,told it was normal.different people drove it and also said you really had to push hard to stop.i changed tires last yearand asked them about the brakes,i was told that there was trouble on the 2006 tahoe.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the rear deck cargo door could not be unlocked electronically. The dealer advised that the cargo door was not designed to do open electronically. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
Driver fell asleep ran into the back of a semi truck, airbag did not deploy.vehicle was a total loss.
The rear hatch door actuator when not working properly will not allow the window or the rear hatch door to unlock. This is a hazard in case of an auto accident.
2006 chevy tahoe rear hatch will not unlock/open.this is the second time that this has occurred with this vehicle.first time repaired by the dealership where it was purchased new after the warranty expired -- expensive repair.now facing having to have costly repair again and the vehicle is less than 7 years old.this is a keyless entry and poses a serious safety issue as there is no way to open the hatch from the inside or the outside of the vehicle. I do not have the vin at this time.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated the rear hatch lock failed and could not be opened automatically. The rear hatch did not have a lock that could be unlocked manually. A passenger in the rear of the vehicle was unable to get out due to the failure. The fire department was called in order to remove the passenger from the rear seat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the rear hatch actuator was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
2006 tahoe rear liftgate/glass will not open.owners manual states to insert key to unlock.i feel that correct parts were not supplied during build process and this is major safety issue when no interior manual release installed.other vehicles have manual trunk release and feel this should be recalled by gm and corrected.also the part is dealer item only so repair is significantly higher.
I have replaced the rear door actuator on two separate occasions with the same result. Both parts have failed. One after market part then a part from gm manufacture. In the event of an emergency being able to exit the rear door would not be possible, therefore a recall should be established to re-evaluate the vehicles rear door safety.
2006 lift gate will not open after 68,000 miles, dealer wanted 500.00 to fix.. What a rip off also a very safety concern for children & pets...also loading issues..in short terms should have bought a (t o y o t a ) they are built to last ..end of story.. Chevy sucks.
When i pressed the power lock opener to unlock all the doors in my tahoe, the liftgate where the children's seats are located did not unlock automatically.it was then i discovered that there is no emergency or manual way to open the liftgate in the event of the actuator failing!there is no release on the inside and no key slot opener on the outside.a little research told me that this is a common problem with this model of car.i don't understand how there was not a recall on these vehicles that are an obvious danger to children and / or other passengers.an emergency lever or keylock should be mandatory on these vehicles.
Rear liftgate actuator has failed.safety issue with children in rear of vehicle and lack of access.there are many complaints about this same problem.gm should recall this part asap.
The lift gate and the rear window on my 2006 chevrolet tahoe will not unlock and therefore cannot be opened.the lift gate unlocks with the keyless remote or the passenger or driver door unlock buttons, neither of which presently opens the tailgate or rear window.there is no way a passenger can exit the vehicle from the tailgate and this is a safety hazard along with a useless cargo area.this failure occurred at 50,000 miles.
2006 chevrolet tahoe hatchback & liftgate won't open.
I own a 2006 chevy tahoe that i just bought in feb. Up till now i have loved it. My rear lift gate/hatch will not open. After trying several times to unlock it, still it wouldn't open. So i climb inside to try and find a manual release button or handle, i find nothing. I decided to pull out the owners manual and look it up. The only way you can access the rear hatch is from the keyless remote that unlocks it. I believe this is a safety issue for several reasons. A crash, be it a rollover, head on, fire or if i plunge into water, you can't get out through the rear access. The latch/lock is broken and thousands of gmc/chevy owners are having this same issue. Now i can't help out with taking my wheelchair bound grandmother to and from her doctors apt and her errand runs. The latch costs $400.00 to replace. Just so that it goes out again?? i don't have that kind of money. It's a default mechanism that chevrolet should fix.
The contact stated the rear lift gate would fail to open. The dealer replaced the lift gate actuator remote control to correct the failure. The failure recurred within two years. The dealer advised having a diagnostic performed before making any repairs. The contact was concerned with the safety of the vehicle in the event of a crash. The failure mileage was approximately 55,326 and the current mileage was approximately 101,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. While the vehicle wasparked, the electronic hatch rear door would not open. The vehicle was not taken to an authorized dealer or mechanic. The vehicle was not been repaired. The contact was concerned since someone could become trapped in the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 67,392 and the current mileage was 67,692.updated 08/24/10. *ljthe rear hatch/liftgate lock function became inoperable in the locked position. The locks are all electric and there is no way to open the back end of the vehicle.updated 08/25/10
Not sure exactly the date it stopped working, but the tailgate will not lock.i was told that the actuator goes bad and it would cost nearly $500 to replace. So even when i lock the doors to the vehicle, access can still be gained through the tailgate.
Dt*:the contact stated that the body and frame of the vehicle were rattling loudly.while braking from 60 mph, the truck shook heavily, causing a temporary loss of control.the vehicle was taken to service dealer, where the dealer installed new shims to reduce the vibrations.

Dash and speedometer not lighting up, dash crackedon both drivers consuland passenger side over airbag, safetyissue of flying dash pieces if passenger side airbag isdeployed
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. While driving approximately 35 mph the traction activation light illuminated and the vehicle failed to move forward no matter how hard the accelerator pedal was engaged. The sensor could have caused the vehicle to hesitate. The vehicle has not been taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000.
The contact owns a 2006 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the rear windows and rear lift gate would not open. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 76,000.
Twice in the past 5 years i have had a flat tire. I always have to endure the expense of a rollback wrecker to take me someplace to get my flat tire fixed. The reason is a terrible security latch on the spare tire that seizes up as soon as it first gets wet. This latch will not release allowing the cable to lower the spare tire to the ground. This has been a problem for years and, my 2003 silverado 1500 had the exact same problem. I am tired of all these expensive flat tires and lost time. I could change my own flat-if chevy would let me! help!!!
