On the date in question my teenage son and girlfriend came to a complete stop at a stop sign when, without any warning lights or other warning of any kind, the overhead side rail airbags on both passenger and driver side deployment simultaneously and the seatbelts lock up.fortunately the kids were not physically harmed. Gm was contacted and they arranged aninspection of the vehicle including recovery of the encrypted black box data which confirmed the vehicle was not in motion and there was no explanation for the deployment. After about 2 months we were finally told the engineers had concluded that the sensors had been exposed to a lot of water damage and were severely corroded.they authorized a complete replacement of the smart module, every airbag sensor, seat belt hardware and all incidental damage to the interior ofthe vehicle. I subsequently submitted a claim to gm for money damages in march-april 2013, and received a call in , regard to this two week ago.gm offered a few meager items to try and settle the dispute, and inthe process of this latest discussion, we were advised for the first time that not a single report made mention of any water or corrosion damage, but the engineering report found instead that inadequate door padding in all four doors from the factory allowed the sensors to vibrate excessively, thus causing the defective deployment.she admitted that gm had several similar problems with certain vehicles like ours made during a certain period of time.a couple of days later we spoke with our original claims rep who denied ever telling us that water damage and corrosion were culprits.she claimed to have made the repair decision on her own the first time and she was not aware of any engineering report regarding door padding.since february my son has continued to drive a vehicle with a seriously defective air bag system.

Air bags of 2004 chevrolet tahoe spontaneously deployed upon turning the key to the on position. Driver and passenger airbags deployed. Driver was struck in chest and face, causing injuries, burns and bruising), neck, and shoulder pain . She is stillseeking treatments. Also, a near miscarriage of unborn child. Regional diagnostician read black box,and no triggers were found. General motors bought back vehicle andwere waiting on settlement.

Vehicle was taken to chevrolet dealer for a suspect system restraint issue with indications from the air bag dash light.first repair was diagnosed with code"c0041".code lead the dealer to the drivers seat.the technician reported the issue to be a wiring problem under the seat with rubbing of the wiring.air bag light did go out for a short period of time and then started to flash back on and off.within the past two months the light has started to stay lit about 90% of the time.vehicle was returned to the chevrolet dealer, trouble code reported the same code (c0041), now the dealer is indicating the problem to be the "seat air bag module".dealer wants to split the cost of the repair 50/50 now after an initial charge of $275against a current estimate of $570.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that as soon as the vehicle was started, the driver and passenger side air bags deployed inadvertently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was told by the dealer that they were not able to determine what caused the failure, but they would change the module and sensor to see if the repair would correct the issue. The vin was not available. The failure mileage and current mileages was 89,000.

The "service airbag" light & message came on in my 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The dealer ran test & found that the sensing diagnostic module had failed the vehicle is less than 5 years old, less than 71,000 miles. They said this was a serious safety issue because the airbag may not come out in an accident. I had them replace this module on 12/30/08 and paid them $550.49. I don't know if they still have the old part or not. This should not be an issue in an expensive vehicle at this age, we should be able to rely on airbags to function properly & safely for many more years than this. In the past two weeks i discovered that my horn will not blow which could also be a safety issue. A mechanic checked the horn and stated that it will cost at least $200. To go into the steering wheel & take it apart to find the problem. I've also taken this vehicle in a number of times because the "service tire monitor" message comes up but the dealer doesn't find a problem.

2004 chevrolet tahoe, after being involved in an accident with severe impact to both front corners and bumper, hard impact collision, and after flipping three times, both front air bags did not deploy. Severe driver injury as a result of the airbag failure.

On sept 21, 2012 i was driving home for lunch and after driving for about 10 minutes i notice my radio shut off and on, the power door locks kept locking and unlocking. Also, the gauges on the dash where coming on and off and all the lights inside on the tahoe where going on and off also. As soon as everything stopped my airbags deployed and hit my face and chest. I remember a cloud of white powder and realized i was still driving. I was able to avoid running into on coming traffic.

I was approaching an intersection heading northbound, got the green arrow, so proceeded to go.my vehicle was going about 5-10 miles per hour.another car coming the opposite way, heading southbound ran the red light going about 35 miles per hour.my air bag did not blow.i drive a 2004 chevy tahoe.i had my 6yr old daughter in the car.we both got injuries.the other car's airbag blew .my car was crushed like tin foil and i can't understand why the air bag did not go off.

My husband and i was involved in an accident and the air bags did not deploy we were hit at 55 mph

I have been seeing commercials about airbags not deploying on chevy vehicles. My daughter was killed in my 04 chevy tahoe where the airbags did not deploy. She was thrown from the vehicle and also another person was in the car as well. Airbags on the drivers or passengers side did not deploy. The truck flipped several times. The drivers seat also lifted up and was split in to. We asked the investigators and our insurance company to check into why the airbags did not deploy and they said it was normal, but we knew otherwise. They did not take any further action.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While driving approximately 50 mph during rainy weather, the vehicle accelerated abnormally and crashed into a concrete medium. The vehicle began to spin around and then reversed while the contact depressed the brake pedal the entire time. The vehicle then crashed into a second vehicle before finally crashing into a metal rail before stopping. The air bags did not deploy. The police reported to the scene and a report was filed. The driver of the vehicle sustained neck injuries and swelling to his collar bone. The passenger sustained injuries to her rib cage, neck and face. The vehicle was towed to an auto body shop but was not repaired. The contact stated that the front and rear end of the vehicle sustained moderate damage as well as the rear driver side wheel and the spare tire. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

Consumer lost control of the vehicle, it rolled over, and the roof collapsed. Also,no air bags deployed.consumer glanced up in the rear view mirror at son, looked back down and had ran off the road with one tire.tryed to correct ended up in the opposite lane.when consumer corrected this the tahoe tilted causing the tire to buckle and the rim caught on the pavement causing the car to begin flipping.it flipped 5 times landing on the roof. The tahoe was totaled.

I was involved in a head on collision with 2 other vehicles, at 45 to 50 mph, and my air bags failed to deploy.

Instrument panel malfunctions by sticking while driving and not returning to zero when the car is turned off. In order to get the speedometer to zero out you have to turn the car on and off until the needle drops to zero. Other times the instrument panel fails to register any values.i called chevrolet customer assistance center they referred me to the dealership which wants to charge me $ 500 for the part and an amount to be determined in labor ($200-300) to replace the instrument cluster. This appears to be a known defect for model years 2003-2007. Several complaints have been filed in court. Northern district of ca. One such matter. Hundreds, if not thousands of defective instrument panels have been cited by the case filing and the listing on several public websites that include the nhtsa website. The nhtsa cites in reports that in 2005 30% of accidents leading to fatalities are speed related crashes; the same reference lists 13,113 lives were lost. Considering this assessment by the nhtsa - i find this matter not subject to full recall or further detailed investigation an alarming issue. Due to the instrument panel being a vital measuring device for the operator this becomes a significant safety and concern for all consumers who are on roads where these vehicles are used not just the owners.

2004 chevy tahoe with 78k miles.on a road trip, speedometer increased to indicate 120+ mph.when vehicle stops indicator only falls to 55-65 mph.no change if vehicle is shut down. No other instruments appear to be affected.appears to be a class action suit on this issue in california.

Speedometer reads 40 mph when actually travelling 70 mph.

I have a 2004 chevy tahoe with 87000 miles on it.problem is internal gauge cluster defect.in other words, the speedometer doesn't work.chevy/gm admits that certain vins had defective clusters installed (including mine) yet they will not recall them and/or replace them unless the vehicle has less then 70000 miles on it.the fact that this is a defective part and not just normal wear and tear and also that thousands of chevy/gm owners are experiencing the exact same problem should constitute a recall, regardless of mileage. There are speed limits set on all roads because it is unsafe to drive at too high of a speed.if we could all accurately judge how fast we were going we would not need speedometers.however, we do need them and when they all the sudden your speedometer starts going crazy (i.e. Show your speed as 120 when you are in fact doing 30 or showing it at 35 when you are doing 75) it becomes a safety concern.the dealership where i purchased my car wants $575 to fix their defective part and gm/chevrolet has told me "sorry, can't help you".

Speedometer intermittentlyindicates vehicle's speed well below actual speed. Problem seems to occur after vehicle has run for 2 to 3 hours. On interstate, running with normal traffic at approx. 70 mph, speedometer will indicate 35 to 40 mph or not work at all. Cruise control also fails to work when speedometer becomes erratic.

The voltmeter does not read and needle is stuck below the gauge and now the speedometer is starting to go out, this is a safety concern. There was an extended warranty on the instrument panel however we could not take it in until it showed signs of failure. The failure accord now with 142,000 which is over the 80,000 extended warranty. I am the original owner of the vehicle and the best gm has offered to do for me is take $58.00 off a$475.00 repair. I have talked to my dealership about just paying for the labor if they would replace the part but nope. I just moved to the area and do not have a service record with a dealer however i have had my vehicle serviced at only gm dealerships across the country. The original dealership i purchased the vehicle from is no longer in business and the other dealership i use to go to in my other state offered to basically replace the part with myself paying the labor however i live over 700 miles away from the dealership to have it done. If that can be done there why can't the dealership offer the same where i am now? i bought the vehicle new in good faith and only have purchased chevrolet products my entire life. I do not understand why gm cannot help me out, they know this part is faulty, plain and simple.

I was driving down the road when my 2004 chevrolet tahoe caught on fire burning to the ground. The report from the fire department says that the fire started due to failure of equipment or a heat source and that there were no human factors contributing to the fire.while looking on the internet i have found at least one other person that has encountered the same problem with her 2004 chevrolet tahoe.

Speedometer on 2004 tahoe quit working. Started getting stuck between 40 mph & 120 mph, but now has stopped completely. Received a letter from gm about 1 month ago, but it stated the problem was not a recall & would replace it up to 70 k miles. Mine has 77 k. Just my luck. This should be a recall.

On an exit ramp getting ready to merge with traffic and the engine cuts off. I was able to stop.turned the key repeatedly, and though the radio and dash lights came on the engine would not turn over.i had the tahoe in "park" my foot on the brake.nothing.shifted it to neutral and tried:nothing.movd the column up and down:nothing.pounded on the column: amen it started.drove to mechanic:could not duplicate problem.no data in computer indicating any problem.6 weeks go by and tahoe will not start in my driveway.go though the same litany again.finally started. My wife takes my tahoe to lowe's in januarycar will not start.she tried so many times she drained the battery.i hooked up the jumper cables and it started immediately. I take it to mechanic and he "thinks" it's part of the ignition module, but doesn't know for sure. The part alone is $250. I decline to spend money on a maybe.then for 4 months no problems. May 31st 2015, tahoe will not start. It started fine may 29th. Not only would it not start, but the battery was dead. Radio was out of sequence by 8 hours.charged the battery and tahoe still would not start.had a friend who is a mechanic come over to look at it and here's the part the really ticks me off.i get in and without any fuss the darn thing started, turned it off and it started, did this 20 times, it started every time.i would conclude that it was the starter, except for the fact that two times it shut off while i was driving it. We own three tahoe's.2002, 2003, and 2004. I don't have this problem with the 2002, and 2003 tahoe's.is this an ignition problem other's have experienced.does it have any connection to the other chevrolet ignition problems.i have two young son's and will not drive this tahoe, with them in it.

I bought this vehicle brand new in 2005.after appox. 5 yrs, the instrument panel started slowly not working.at first it was the speedometer, then fuel gauge and now the entire instrument panel is useless.not one gauge is working.i have researched and found the same issues with the 2004 chevrolet tahoe.i, for one, see this as a dangerous situation as well as completely against the law to be driving a vehicle without a speedometer.this is now the only vehicle that i have and i have to depend on this vehicle to drive my family around in.i don't have the means to have this issue fixed and due to the same issue with many of the same vehicles, i think chevrolet should be held responsible before someone gets either stranded or hurt due to their negligence.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the contact received a notice from the manufacturer for the instrument cluster, which advised her to take the vehicle to the nearest dealer for service.he was not experiencing any failures at the time the notice was received.approximately one month later, the speedometer, heat control, fuel gauge dial, and other instrument panel indicators failed.the speedometer displayed a higher speed than what was actually being driven.at startup, the speedometer would read approximately 70 mph and then later register 120 mph when the vehicle was in motion.the dealer advised her to call the manufacturer.the manufacturer stated that the vehicle exceeded the mileage requirement; therefore, they would not assist with the repairs.the dealer stated that the repair would cost over $400 for the part alone.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current mileage was 78,323 and failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

Vehicle registered "reduced engine power" while i was on the highway, i was able to get to the shoulder, online research showed numerous incidents involving the throttle body sensor and the wires crimping, there was something about the wiring harness being covered by gm but it does not appear on a recall list.

A few weeks ago i was traveling down hwy 60 in southwest missouri and the "reduced engine power" light came on.the vehicle immediately slowed to about 4-5 miles per hour and i was unable to accelerate.i crawled to the next exit where i barely made it up the incline and into a gas station.we checked the gas, oil, battery, etc.i turned off the vehicle and when i started it up again, it seemed fine.i continued home.the next day i took it to a mechanic who said that it all checked out perfectly and there was nothing wrong.this has happened 12-15 times in the last month and every time i take it to the mechanic, he tells me that the computer is not "throwing codes" and there is nothing wrong.this is not a figment of my imagination.this keeps happening.the most recent "episode" was last night.we took the boat down to the river to go gigging at night.when i went to pull the trailer up the boat ramp and park the vehicle, the "reduced engine power" light again came on and i could not pull up the hill.every time i attempted it, the light came on and i actually went backwards towards the river!!my children were in the vehicle and i was scared we would be trapped it something further malfunctioned and we rolled back into the deep cold water!!!from what i have now researched gm is aware of this problem and i do not understand why a problem this potentially deadly has not been dealt with!i am not the first owner of this vehicle and have never had a problem like this.i am a single mother of three beautiful boys and i am scared to drive my car because of this.i cannot put them in a potentially deadly situation.so our only vehicle sits and waits in our driveway leaving me stranded a lot until gm can come up with a solution on their dime.this isn't fair that a problem is know and no one at gm will fix it.please help fix this before someone dies!

The dash for the past year will work for a month or two, then go out for a month or two. I can not read any of my dash gauges. I can't tell how fast i'm going or how much gas i have etc.i have read where numerous other tahoe owners have experienced the same issue.it is very annoying and not safe for my teenage son to drive.with as many complaints as have been filed, can we get a recall?

While driving my electrical gauges all went crazy and then quit one by one. I have only 2 left that work. My windshield wipers do not turn off and intermittent does not work on them. My hub on front tires keep needing replaced. They come lose to point of tire nearly falling off. My engine light came on and never turned off.

2004 tahoe air conditioning unit will stop and start blowing hot air at maximum volume.vehicle must be shut down completely and restarted to correct the issue temporarily.issue has been intermittent since the vehicle was new.gm could never duplicate, no repair ever made to vehicle.on going issue with heating and cooling system.

Speedometer defect: gauge does move some of the time butdoes not read actual speed this suddenly occurred on long trip.

I was driving down one of the busy roads in manatee county, and the back hatch glass of my 2004 chevy tahoe blew off of my car. It went air born and landed in the south bound lane almost on top of a car. If the car had not slammed on its brakes and swerved, it could have killed someone. I contacted the dealership, and the will not fix the problem. The hinges are still attached to my vehicle and the insurance company wants a $500 deductible. I know i have been online researching this kind of incident and i am not the only person to have this problem. I feel like it should be a recall before someone gets killed. It is not normal for a 4 year old vehicle to have its glass blow off.

Started my vehicle and let it warm up. No issues.. After waiting 5 min i drove away from my house and within 1 minute of driving( could of been less), all of my dash lights flashed/glitched,and my gauge needles go all the way down,i lose accuracy of speed, fuel, temps, etc. My indicator( where it shows mileage) reset to "driver 1" .same thing happens everytime, and its always random, except the last 2 days.i just purchased this vehicle used, last year and a carfax was done and i just did a vin search and nothing states this vehicle was either recalled or was the problem originally fixed when there was a recall.

The entire instrument cluster failed including the speedometer and fuel gauge.

Speedometer ticking and showing incorrect speed. Sometimes sticking on higher number and then on lower numbers and often not working at all.

Electrical panel does not work properly. Have not had a correct reading in months.

Well where should i begin, the first problem was the clunking of the front end when going in and out of driveways, the first steering shaft was replaced, a couple of months later the speedometer started making noise, that was replaced, then the clunking noise reappeared, this time it supposedly needed to be lubed, it was fine, however noise reappeared, then the second shaft was installed, the tire sensor light intermittently comes on when ever it feels like it, and tire pressure is normal, now the windshield wipers will not shut off when it rains except when you turn the vehicle off, however they come back on when you restart the car after hours of sitting, my wife is expecting our second child and also drive my 5 year old in this vehicle, this car is piece junk, gm needs to take back pride in there craftsmanship step up to the plate like there consumers did and fix this ?!@#$%! they need to extend there warranties because there cars do not last as they mislead you to believe!!!

2004 chevrolet tahoe "reduced engine power". Occurs intermittently and only allows you to go about 25 mph. Very unsafe if on a highway. Gm dealer replaced the faulty wire harness and plug that plugs into the throttle body. Also replaced throttle body itself.

My husband and i own a 2004 chevrolet tahoe with 30,000 miles currently on it. We were driving home from supper last night when our speedometer quit working. We were doing 65 mph down a local highway when my husband looked down at his speed and the speedometer read 35. We stopped at a red light and the speed dropped to 0. When we accelerated, the speed stayed at 0 when we were doing at least 35. We then pulled over, turned the car off, recranked the car and then began driving. Still nothing. I have to say that this is definitely impacting our safety. We have no idea how fast we're driving. I googled the problem and found around 100 other gmc/gm car owners with the same problem. They are stating it costs between $500 and $700 to repair the problem and many times the problem still exists after the repairs. We have not contacted our local dealer because it is the weekend. We plan to call on monday morning to find out the cost to fix the problem.

Control panel cluster is failing first causing the gas gauge to not work at all and then the speedometer to malfunction.

Memory seat does not operate properly. When you use fob or key to access vehicle, seats, mirrors and radio randomly choose their own positions.

The speedometer, oil gauge and rpm gage on the cluster panel quit working. I think this should be a recall for the chevrolet dealership. This is a default that should be fixed free of charge to the owners. No one wants to purchase a vehicle and have to put in the shop for a manufacture problem.

The speedometer fluctuated over a period of 2-3 days, then stopped working.i called a mechanic and was told this is a "known problem" with this vehicle and that there was a campaign.unfortunately, this campaign has long expired.this is an expensive safety issue because the driver cannot tell how fast the vehicle is traveling.it should be a safety recall.

Speedometer registers 80mph at complete stop, 120 mph with movement. Problem did occur without warning. At this time not repaired because i do not have $500. I think it is a safety issue and chevrolet should pay for repair even in my car is over 70,000 miles (is 83,000 now).i think we all want to save american car industry (with the help of taxpayers money), but we need to send the message to these people that they should be making reliable cars. Please we need a recall for the problem. I do want to keep buying american, but you need to help us out.

Leaving my drive all the lights on the dash board lit up for about 2 seconds then went off. A few miles later did the same thing then all the gauges stopped working. Next time i started it up the gauges would not work about a mile down the road all the lights on dash came on and then gauges would start working. Sometimes my battery will be dead when i go out in the mornings. The driver seat heat comes on and off whenever it wants to. If it's cold outside the radio will not work until the car has been warmed up for a while.

The speedometer on my 2004 tahoe does not give accurate speed readings.it said i was doing 62 miles an hour on the highway and i started passing every car on the road.i slowed down and then it never got above 15 miles an hour and i was on the highway.after shutting off the tahoe for a few minutes it worked again.this happens regularly if i drive the car for more than about 30 minutes at a time.

Speedometer, voltage gauge, and tachometer gauges are not working properly.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 25 mph in inclement weather conditions, the speedometer displayed inaccurate readings.the failure occurred without warning.the authorized dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled for repair service.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 42,515.

Speedometer suddenly began to register incorrect mph.0 mph sometimes is 30 mph or 40 mph or up to 70 mph.this happens suddenly you will look down and it will show you are going 110 mph when you are really going 60-70 mph.took it into the deal and was told they have had more than several of this same problem.cost to repair was going to be approximately $500, was told no recall has taken place, but they believe this was a defect and we should keep the receipt.we decided at this point to hold out and see if there is a recall as the speedometer works correctly approximately 50% of the time at this point.

When vehicle was left in the rain, the speedometer would become inoperable. Dealer replaced entire instrument cluster at $350. Dollars. This involved partial pulling of dash to access. Three weeks later the headlights stopped working. Discovered that the sensor mounted on dash had fallen inside the dash. Dealer claims that at the same time sensor un-attached, both headlights burned out simultaneously. They will not take any of the blame, and consider all events to be unrelated.

Purchased 2004 tahoe for my son thinking it was a reliable vehicle.little did i know that i got a lemon!the instrument panel was the first to go, although now it seems to be in the suggested mode, english.then, the speedometer started acting erratically, going from 55 mph to 120 mph in like seconds. I believe the vehicle has about 105,000....what happens now? i hear its expensive to fix and i don't think i should have to pay for it.this is a defect and clearly there are thousands of people out there with the same problem....please help..

On october 27th, the speedometer on my 2004 chevy tahoe began to stop working.my vehicle has 49k miles on it.the speedometer gets stuck at various points and will peg out at over 120.on many occasions, it will not come off of zero.if you turn the car off and restart it, it will drop the needle about 5 mph, but will never zero itself back out.i called the dealership (bill heard chevrolet, collierville, tn) the day that it occurred.i was advised that this was a common occurrence and was a problem with the instrument panel cluster.i was also advised that it would cost around $600-$700 to repair.after doing some research, i have discovered that this seems to be a defect in gm trucks and suv's.it is extremely dangerous!i asked the dealership if there was a recall and was advised that there was not.this is not just happening to me.i truly believe that gm should issue a recall to have this instrument panel repaired.people expect reliability when they invest this type of money into a vehicle and they are not getting it from gm or it's parts.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that unknown warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The failure occurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 128,000.

I was driving on the highway when i glanced at my gauges. The tachometer reading was below zero. Then suddenly my speedometer started slowly falling from 65 to 70 mph to just below zero as well.still driving. About20 minutes later.the speedometer started to slowly rise. Finally it stayed steady atabout 35 mph.this created a problem. Because i wasn't going 35mph on the highway.during this time, i tried not to increase or decrease my speed.i went with the flow of traffic.because, obviously, it was a safe rate of speed at that time. Because the tachometer wasn't working too.the approximate calculation of my rate of speed. Could not be ascertained. "speed" is a significant threat to public safety. Whether it be the regular streets throughout your town or the interstate highway. Another reason to consider this a public safety issue is. Someone maybe driving faster than the speed rating of their tires.because of instrument panel malfunction. The risk of serious tire issues have now increased.this is a direct safety issue.through some research of my own. I found that alot of the effected vehicles.started having this issue after 70000 to 80000 miles.gm's attempt to rectify this safety hazard is lame at most.7 yrs 70,000 miles. These numbers were picked so they could keep their costs at a minimum.we, the consumer, are being forced.to take it once again.fromthe big businesses that refuse to take responsibility. For the very dangerous issues of which they created!has anyone figured out how many suv's have been or will be effected?how many of them are or will be on the road?also, once the instrument panel cluster gets replaced. The odometer & hour readings need to be reset.this opens the door for a new set of problems.odometer fraud.

2004 chevrolet tahoe.speedometer failure at around 80,000 miles.i've been running on the speed indicator of my gps for the last 20,000 miles.speedometer failures, due to faulty equipment, should be repaired in a recall by the manufacturer.the "silent" recall issued in 2007 never made it to me and it was only for cars under 70,000 miles.speedometers are "safety" equipment.they shouldn't fail as often as the 2004 model year general motors vehicles are failing.there are way too many people having to spend four-hundred to six-hundred dollars on a repair that should be general motors responsibility.

Speedometer is acting erratic, sometimes showing 35 mph when actual speed is somewhere around 70 mph.other times it shows 0 mph.i'm concerned about this and wonder if there are other problems.

At 37,000 miles, the speedometer on my 2004 chevy tahoe has stopped working. Reading erratically or not at all.

Speedometer not indicating the correct speed.

This vehicle has had numerous, frequent, and persistent electrical problems.the approximate date given was with the air conditioning where it blew only hot air.two "repairs" at the dealer and two subsequent repairs finally revealed electrical problems.the real safety issues that continue are with the instrument panel that has at times affected the speedometer, tachometer (continuous problem), oil pressure gauge (continuous problem), and no dash lights at night. Computer analyses and resets have not solved the problem.many other people have had the same issue, as evidenced by testimonials on forums and complaints.the danger in this is lights going out to a blank dash at night, engine problems that could result from the lack of a functioning oil gauge, and inaccurate or no speed readings. Should be a recall for the control panel system at the least.thank you.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the electrical system in the vehicle stopped working without warning, which caused the battery to die. The contact replaced the battery multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 183,000.

The main engine wiring harness was full of condensate and corroded. The vehicle would just shut off while driving. Took multiple trips to the mechanic shop for them to be able to duplicate and correct the issue. Online research shows many tahoe owners experiencing the same issues.

1. Normal daily driving2. The speedometer stopped working as did the tachometer, battery gauge and oil pressure gauge.3. Nothing was done. Not a recall not under warranty.

The driver's seat moves forward unexpectedly when the button for the heat is turned on, making the ability to see the mirror for the blind spot difficult.the doors locked on their own, which prevented entering and exiting from the vehicle.the manufacturer was contacted and was aware of the problem.the memory module that controlled the drivers seat, mirror, locks and foot pedals, did not stay in memory and would go out of control intermittently while the vehicle was in motion.the consumer would become unable to reach the pedal, gas pedal, the mirrors collapsed and had been locked out of the vehicle on several occasions. *sc

When air conditioner is running, air coming from driver's side vents become extremely hot while passenger's side remains cool. I cannot determine any specific conditions that made this occur. It seems to be totally random. The hot air is not warm air or pretty hot air, it is extremely hot, hotter than a hair dryer produces at its hottest. I report this because it is obviously a safety hazard and, judging from complaints showing on internet blogs, it is fairly common. Apparently chevrolet is admitting no responsibility for this failure, even denying that it is a common problem.

2004 tahoe trailer tow inoperative.no hitch pack on the vehicle, so i was not overly concerned, but now i have many other indication problems with my cluster and speed control, perhaps they are related.gm will not warranty the known issue with the speed control and cluster.complaint previously filed and gm customer service previously contacted.issue not resolved.

Driving slow down a block and smelled electrical fire smoke. The smoke got worse and darker and it was coming up from under my legs (i was driving). I pulled over, put my emergency blinkers on and turned off the engine. Had a hard time getting my seat belt unbuckled, but finally got it off and jumped out of the car. The smoke got really bad and very rapidly the driver seat caught on fire. My brother was with me, he was out of the car as well, and he called the fire department. Police and fire department arrived and put the fire out. The car was towed. If i hadn't gotten out of the car as fast as i did i would have caught on fire as well.

The speedometer on my 2004 chevrolet tahoe broke suddenly while driving. It went to a "0 speed" of 40 mph. In other words, while moving at 25 mph my speedometer read 65 mph. I had to immediately slow down and was forced to move off the roadway because i was a hazard to other traffic. This was the second such incident. In january 2005 the exact same thing happened as i was traveling at the posted speed limit of 70 mph. I slowed for traffic and as i accelerated back to the posted speed limit my speedometer read over 100 mph. I did not know my speed and was forced to pull to the side of a major freeway. That speedometer was replaced under warranty. However, the replacement only lasted 32194 miles and 15 months.besides the obvious danger in having a speedometer fail suddenly, there is the inherent concern that even if i was involved in even a minor fender-bender, the police investigating the accident would inaccurately find i was driving 40 mph above my actual speed and the burden would be on me to prove otherwise. An almost impossible task.

2004 chevrolet tahoe has a speedometer that does not work properly.very erratic readings throughout speed range.

My odometer stopped functioning on my 2004 tahoe z71. I brought itinto the dealerunder warranty. The dealer advised me that this was happening to all of the tahoe's and they were back logged trying to get the parts. It took over a week to get my tahoe back. The dealer said that they repaired my cluster. The hour meter has 279 hours less now than it did when i brought it in. The mileage had 4 more miles on it. I called and advised the dealer that the hour meter had 279 hours less and asked him if they repaired the cluster or replaced it? he said they repaired it. So i called my brother in-law who's been a mechanic for chevy for over 29 years. He said that they had to replace the cluster and just reprogrammed the mileage and hours. Why would the dealer make a false statement to me and tell me that they repaired the cluster when they must have replaced it? also, why hasn't this been a recalled by chevy? it's a safety hazard and is happening to all the tahoe's. I have only driven it home, so i can not tell you if the problem has been permanently corrected.

2004 chevrolet tahoe instrument panel . Oil,temperature, speed volts gauges fail.

The speedometer started going way below the actual speed i was going.i'd have to turn the engine off and restart it and keep doing this until it gets back to normal.this went on for several weeks where it was fine, then it would drop below 0 at a stop sign, then would show 10 mph when i was actually doing about 35.now it's doing just the opposite.the other night i looked down at the speedometer and almost panicked because it said i was going 90 mph!i was actually doing around 50.this is a very serious safety issue and gmc should recall.

Speedometer is reading erratically. When engine is turned of it does not go tozero and when driving sometimes it reads faster than actual speed and sometimes lower.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the driver's side door lock failed and would not activate whether attempting to engage manually or electronically.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. The manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 13v248000 (electrical system, visibility). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 155,000.

Started vehicle november 14,2006 speedometer is showing at between 70 mph and 120 mph when at full stop. Unable to figure out how fast i am going.internet is showing that a lot of gmc suv and truck owners from 2003-2006 are having this issue. Dealers and mechanics are charging between $600-$800 to repair.

The vehicle has been engaging in 4-wheel drive on its on for over a year even when traveling on the highway at 55 mph or more. When taken to the dealership, was told that this is a very common problem seen in this type of vehicle and very costly to fix. Was told to wait until it becomes more problematic to repair because of the cost. Now the light does not show on the panel to show if it is in 2 or 4 wheel drive and it is happening more frequently.

I was driving on e-470 westbound near quebec when the car shutdown completely. No power. The car then would not start and had to be towed to the dealer to have a computer check. They told me it was the fuel pump, after a week, when i was having it towed to my mechanic for the repair, i decided to try to start it and it started right up. I drove it to my mechanic who checked the fuel pump and said it was fine. They could not find a reason why this happened. Same with another mechanic. Since then (i had owned the car for 5 months at that point) this has happened four more times, the latest on may 9th. Again it's been towed and again i am trying to find a permanent solution. I am now finding out the passlock anti-theft system malfunctions and cuts off fuel to the pump because the car thinks it is being stolen. I have also learned it has been a common problem in many gmc models over many years. Sometimes the passlock system can be reset (though that has never worked for me). The only way to permanently fix the problem is to disable the passlock anti-theft system. These systems should be removed from these cars. I would rather my car be stolen then shut down at 65 mph or when my wife is driving home from downtown denver at 10:30 at night through not so great parts of town.

I have a 2004 chevrolet tahoe z71. At 40,500 miles the speedometer has started acting erratically, registering speeds up to 70 mph when the vehicle is at a standstill and registering a variety of speeds (none of which are correct) when the vehicle is in motion.my dealership insists that they have never heard of this problem before, however, i have seen on various web sites where there are literally thousands of owners of tahoe and yukon that are experiencing this problem...it is unsafe.

When using the air conditioner it sometimes blows very hot air. Now that it is cold out when using the heater it sometimes blows ice cold air. If this happens i have to stop, turn off my vehicle, then when i restart the vehicle it does the right thing. Some times i have to do this more then once to get it to work. I got a recall notice a while back but the dealer said it is only for when it smells like smoke. Guess they want me to have an electrical fire before they will fix it.

Speedometer no longer works.reads to high, often staying at max speed or above while driving 55 to 65 mph.reads ~50 mph while sitting still.vehicle hasmiles.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the speedometer malfunctioned and she was unable to tell how fast she was driving. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 99,000 and the current mileage was 109,000.

Speedometer indicated much higher speed than indicated (anywhere from 50 to over 120 miles per hour when completely stopped, or over 120 mph when driving at about 70 mph actual.was reset by repeated restarting the engine (which lowerred the minimum indicated speed by 7-10 mph per start).drove 120 miles with gps confirming speedometer's indicated speed, but i'm not comfortable issue is resolved.2004 chevy tahoe lt, approx 30,000 miles.never involved in any accident, no body/mechanical/electrical repairs or modifications.

On this date the speedometer and battery gauge began to go haywire, at first they began to jump up so it looked like i was driving faster then i was down the interstate.the next day when i drove my tahoe the speedometer kept getting higher and has maxed out over 120 mph, and the battery meter well over 19 volts and they do not move anymore.i now have to rely on a portable gps in my car to estimate how fast i am traveling.i see there was a class action lawsuit on this, but i am 3,000 miles over the 80,000 required to get a replacement gauge cluster.

I ad no idea that this was an on going issue with the 2004 tahoes until a co-worker mentioned he had the same problem and then when i had a smog check done this year. I noticed about a little over a year ago that my gauges were not working. Didn't really look into as, i have regular oil changes and check my levels regularly too. But recently my speedometer doesn't read the speed correctly.it's now a permanent issue and i will have to replace the cluster panel completely it's a serious safety issue and i cannot believe gm will not recall for this item! how many others out there have the same problem and just like me, did not know it was an issue!

My 2004 chevy tahoe with 102,000miles has speedometer needle that suddenly becomes erratic while driving after 30 minutes at 50-60 mph.it will reset to normal after a few engine starts and shuts down.i hear this is a common problem with gm trucks of this era.isn't this a safety hazard?is there a recall?

Speedometer does not indicate correct speed.speedometer does not return to zero mph when vehicle stopped.speedometer is intermittent.

Our tahoe has 46295 miles on it.last week, the speedometer became erratic.it sometimes works, but often shows speeds of 50-80 mph while the truck is in idle, and much higher when the truck is moving.after talking with many dealers, repair shops and other gm drivers, this is apparently a common problem that has not been addressed by gm.apparently, the issue is with the instrument console, and other gauges may or may not be working as well.this is both a safety concern and a vehicle concern, as i may not know my correct speed, level of gas, etc.

On october 11, 2008, the speedometer in my 2004 chevrolet tahoe failed.sometimes the needle moves, but it is completely unreliable.this failure occurs everytime i start the engine.when driving this vehicle, i can never be sure if i am traveling at the correct rate of speed.i am very concerned for the safety of my family while in this vehicle.i have not been able to have this vehicle repaired yet as the cost is extremely high.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 55-60 mph on normal road conditions, the four wheel drive activated without assistance.the four wheel drive mechanism failed to respond when the contact attempted to deactivate the system.the four wheel drive warning indicator illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection, but they were unable to determine the cause of the failure.recently, the front driver's and passenger side seats failed to recline backwards.in addition, there was water leaking from the sunroof near the passenger side sun visor.finally, the passenger side power window and heated seat failed to operate.the vin and mileages were unknown.

Memory seat does not operate properly.when you use fob or key to access vehicle seats, climate, mirrors and radio randomly choose their own positions.

Failed speedometer. Started of messing up occasionally, but then began reading the wrong speed. Saying that i was going 25 when i was really going 55.

While driving i had a real bad clunking noise in my steering wheel.i took it to the victory layne chevy dealer and spent a significant amount to pay for a defective intermediate steering shaft and column bearing replaced because i was concerned about driving it.now my instrument cluster fuel guage is defective, the abs light& parking brake lights don't come on with the key on or at all and there are no codes from the dealer.

2004 chevy tahoe speedometer quit working. Stays on 55 mph even when engine is off. Told it would be about $800 to fix. Now oil gauge is not working properly. It does not drop to zero. Oil in engine is at proper level.

Dt:the contact stated while driving the speedometer became stuck on 0, 30 or 70 mph.she contacted the dealership, whodetermined the cluster was not working and needed to be replaced.also, shecontacted the manufacturer, and they documented the problem. Update 1/11/2006 -

Wow!i just got off the phone with chevrolet about my speedometer not working at all.the rep stated this was not a recall but an extension of the warranty for the cluster if your vin# falls w/in a certain range.mine falls w/in the range but i'm over 80,000 miles and i bought the car used so had no idea about the wty extension.this makes no sense to me the cluster / speedometer is not an added feature or accessory, but mandatory on all vehicles. In other words no vehicles are purchased with out it.why is this not a recall it is a safety issue!there was a lawsuit on this, but only extended the warranty mileage, what????it is defective no matter what the mileage, recall it before someone is seriously hurt due to an accident.i guess until it's recalled we can just guess what speed we are going, that's legal, right?help asap!!!!!

There is a recall #04004. "brake hydro-boost relief valve"but my vin# is not on the list.over 64,000 vehicles were affected and there is a "#1" on the mounting surface. All of the units detected a machining error in the relief bore cavity for modules produced from a machine identified as "fadal #1" this can and has caused my 2004 chevrolet tahoe to have no power assist with my steering and no power brakes.i have found myself holding two feet on the brake pedal at a red light.and can not operate in small spaces such as parking garages and certain parking stalls. I wanted to know if there is something more that i can do in regards to this particular recall and find out if there is some mistake as far as my vin# not being recognized but yet experiencing the same problems.my vehicle has become inoperable for that it is unsafe to drive with the no power assist and could cause a major accident...i want to see about receiving some aid in all this.this has been a issue since august of 2019.it has caused me to lose work for a lack of transportation.my credit has fallen behind because of not being able to make it to work and spending my savings on trying to guess at what is wrong with it. For it is my only vehicle.now that the covid-19 is here is a double whamy! in dire straits -cali lovin my 4x4- [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2004 tahoe speedometer is pegged full scale while parked in driveway with engine off. Noticed several others having same speedometer related problems on internet forums. This is a safety issue that should be addressed immediately through a recall by the manufacturer.

The voltage meter bottomed out while driving back in 2008.it alternated between registering correctly and then incorrectly until dec 2009 when it bottomed out and stayed.i have no idea what state my battery is in because of this.i've had it checked out twice by the dealer.the first time, in dec 2008, the meter worked just fine and the repairman could not get it to bottom out during an 18 mile test drive.the next day, it dropped below the last reading possible on the gauge and i drove it right back to the dealer.they told me that the entire instrument panel would need to be replaced.the tahoe had over 100,000 miles on it so it would not have qualified for the proposed class action settlement filed back in 2008.

Speedometer is malfunctioning by sticking while driving and not returning to zero when the car is turned off. In order to get the speedometer to zero out you have to turn the car on and off until the needle drops to zero. I called chevrolet customer assistance center they referred me to the dealership which wants to charge me $ 600to replacethe speedometer that shouldn't have malfunctioned in the first place.

2004 chevrolet tahoe speedometer just quit working yesterday on a road trip.no indicating circumstances lead up to failure.speedometer continues to rise until it reaches 120 mph and just stays there.dealer says they will not repair because vehicle is over 70k miles, even though they have known about the issue for years.please advise.

The speedometer works fine sometimes but some other times it starts off at about 35 mph and counts up from there.it is hard to figure out what speed you are going and i am really afraid of getting a speeding ticket or going to slow and causing an accident.i think this needs to be looked into so maybe we can prevent future major problems.also a number of friends have had the same problems with gauges in their chevrolet vehicles.

Speedometer on my 04 tahoe isn't working, pegged at 120 mph when stopped.

Erratic operation of speedometer.other gauges seem to fluctuate for no apparent reason.

2004 chevy tahoe speedometer and associated gauges read erratic. Ongoing problem, speedometer never goes below 80 mph, even when standing still. Don't want to pay the suggested $500-600 to fix when gm should pay for it.i consider this to be a considerable safety risk.

All of a sudden the speed odometer jumps to 90 and we were almost stopped.then it stayed on 0 for a while we were driving, then just jumps around.it is never accurate.checked with dealer and they reported to us that this has been a real problem with this model of vehicle.they said it was the gage cluster going out and there have been lots of them recently coming in with this problem. And therepair cost is between $450.00 - 500.00 .i feel this is a manufacturing malfunction and they should repair these vehicles free of charge to vehicle owners because this is unsafe and it should not be malfunctioning like this.its not just a few vehicles with this same problem its alot!!

Speedometer failure. It does not give accurate speed readings. At rest, it reads 20mph and on the highway it reads up to 120mph erratically.

Faulty speedometer.

I drive a 2004 tahoe ls. I am a salesman and drive quite a bit and have racked up around 95,000 miles to this day. While driving, about a year ago, i noticed my speedometer acting erratically. The needle would jump or lurch past each number as it ascended through the numbers on the speedometer. It was more noticeable in the 55 to 75mph range. The speed was still accurate so i viewed it as a non-issue. However, as time went on the accuracy began to degrade as i started noticing the speedometer would stop at 40 mph while i was driving highway speeds. The degradation has continued up to now where i am lucky if the needle even moves off of 0 mph. When the needle does move it freezes at about 15 mph forcing me to guess at my speed by monitoring the tachometer. This is a pretty dangerous situation and i would like to assume gm would look to remedy this situation quickly. The alternative is for the consumer to foot the bill of a $500-$1100 repair cost for a manufacturer's defect as many dealers already know that the "cluster needs to be replaced". This is a well-documented issue for gms built in the 2003 to 2005 model years which we, as consumers who have already invested at least $40,000 on these vehicles, need to see remedied. P.s. The 07 ford expedition and expedition el appear to be very nice

2004 chevrolet tahoe speedometer reads wrong and then doesn't read a speed at all.on a 70 mile trip, my speedometer registered speed for the first 10 miles and then read 0 miles/hour the rest of the 60 miles.

Speedometer failure-vehicle in a parked position and speedometer states that vehicle is traveling at 50 mph.when traveling at a speed of 65 on highway speedometer shows traveling 120 mph.

I have a 2004 chevrolettahoe and recently thespeedometer started acting funny. It would show i would be going 60 mph over what i was actually going. When parked it would read 45- 60 mph. Now it stays stuck at 120 mph. I called the dealership, and told me the entire cluster would have to be replaced for about $500.also,said that it would be 90 to just look at the problem. I did some research ,and found that there are hundreds of peopleto whom this is happening to. What made me mad was that this happened 7500 miles after my warranty ran out.

I own a 2004 chevy tahoe which has 46k miles.my speedometer is acting erratically.it will not drop lower than 70 mph, often not dropping below 80 and even 90 mph.it will top out on the freeway and even driving down streets.i am being told this is common and being quoted having to replace the entire cluster at over $1k out of pocket.please have chevy recall this dangerous malfunction that is obviously a common occurrence.please make them pay for their poor workmanship and protect hard working consumers who simply cannot afford to pay for chevrolet's poor workmanship.

Speedometer inoperative on 2004 chevrolet tahoe and other 2003 and 2004 chevrolet products.apparent that a recall should be issued, but has not been. Gm agrees to repair 7 yrs or 70,000 miles which ever comes first.however, they did not notify the customer until 4 and 5 model years later that there is a problem.

Speedometer malfunctioned and no longer works on my 2004 tahoe.

My speedometer has gone faulty. It reads 55+ mph at a stop. It is less than 3 years old and 4,000 miles past the 36,000 mile warranty. This is a very dangerous problem and it seems as if i am not the only customer with this problem. Please take a look at this website. Http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-tahoe/t2bgkbgi55eknu77c/p4.

I was driving down the road all of a sudden the speedometer registered 120 mph, i pulled over to the side of the road and stopped the vehicle, the speedometer was still registering 50 mph.since that time the speedometer registers various speeds, from 140 to 0 i am not sure what speed i am actually going, i can be parked with the speedometer on 140 or driving with the speedometer on 0.

Speedometer and tachometer both went to zero , and ceased functioning currently can't tell speed of travel.

My speedometer failed 5/14/2009 and the gas needle failed shortly afterward. They are completely no reliable.

Speedometer will drop to zero or show an inaccurate reading while driving. Can not drive safely or legally if the speed of the vehicle is unknown. Gm should consider this a recall issue.

Speedometer started sticking after reaching mileage of 90,000. Got stuck at apx.70 mph and after driving awhile it increased to 120 pointing south even while at a stand still. Then oil and gas gauge started to error. Dealership cost over $500 to repair an instrument cluster. Never notified, heard of recall, or informed of problem from dealer or manufacturer until problem started. Searched internet and learned of other owners with same problem. Called gm and they stated something about a settlement but it was too late as my vehicle didn't error until after some deadline. I'm baffled as to why some owners were excluded if problems didn't exist at the time gm rectified others. Is it the owners fault that the vehicle didn't error before this so called unfair time line? if i had known about the gm replacement sooner, maybe i should have just had it replaced before it errored......will never purchase another gm vehicle again as their practices are not helpful to their customers.

I own a 2004 chevy tahoe.on january 14, 2009, my speedometer started malfunctioning.at first, when i would start the car and drive, it would work but after about 10 min. It would start indicating the wrong speed.it's now been a few days and the speedometer isn't working correctly at all.when i'm driving approx. 30 miles per hr., the needle reads 120 mph.i won't be able to get my vehicle into the dealership until next week...by the looks of all the complaints, this seems to be a problem with many 2004 tahoe owners.i was hoping this was a recalled item.

2004 chevy tahoe with only 41k miles, speedometer acting erratic, marking unrealistic speed, ex. 40mph when actually driving 65mph.

My tahoe that has 59,000 miles, the speedometer started sticking and now has quit. The speedometer now reads o. Checked all fuses no blown ones to be found. Mechanic tells me its common place with the tahoe and very expensive to fix.

Speedometer is not registering correct speed.started reading inaccurately and now does not read at all.our 2004 chevy tahoe is being taken to the dealership to be repaired.vehicle considered out of warranty due to miles and did not purchase extended warranty.

The speedometer on my vehicle failed--received notification from gm about a possibility of this type of failure a week earlier- the failure occurred during my commute(60+mi) while using cruise control--although i didn't have a negative experience, i believe this needs to be highlighted as a potential.i can't understand why this isn't an immediate recall versus a "notification".

I have a 2004 chevrolet tahoe that the speedometer registers incorrectly or not at all.when the needle moves it moves with a jerky motion.

While driving our 2004 chevy tahoe the speedometer acts erratically going anywhere from -0- to -120-.we feel that this is a very scary feeling when driving either on the freeway or driving in town. We feel that the chevrolet corporation should do a major recallon this problem.it is a huge problem.if chevrolet takes pride in there vehicles they will do a recall on this problem and fix it for all of us who drive there vehicles.

The speedometer randomly moves from say 30 mph to 120 when you have not increased your speed. When you stop it stays at 120 until you restart the vehicle then it will only come down maybe to 80 when you are standing still.i called the dealer and they want 600 dollars to fix it. I have researched this site and others and have found many people with the same problem. I believe chevrolet should take care of this problem because it is an obvious manufacturing defect and could lead to injury.

2004 chevrolet tahoe z71 4x4 model.speedometer is malfunctioning and constantly reads over 100mph.car only has 30k miles on it but, of course, the warranty just ran out.

Faulty speedometer in 2004 chevy tahoe. Speedometer reads 30-35 mph above actual speed.

Tachometer and speedometer are not giving correct readings.they can be 3,000rpm at idle or 100mph at about 40 mphsometime shutting off car resets it.

Failure of speedometer.

We have seen dozen of incidents in the past few months where the speedometer began ticking, became jerky, or stopped working all together.sometimes it will display a speed obviously lower than the actual speed (like 30 on the highway where we are going at least 55).other times, it will sit at 0 while the car is cruising down the road.this problem is intermittent.sometime stopping and restarting the car fixes it.we will go a week or more without the problem and sometime we see it multiple times in one day.we have not repaired the issue yet.internet searching indicates the average repair cost to be between $500 and $1,200.similar searching also indicates that this has been seen by at least hundreds of people on variations of the tahoe (suburban, avalanche, etc).there is even someone on ebay who has a hole business around fixing broken instrument clusters for these vehicles.

2004 chevy tahoe - the speedometer is completely erratic while driving and does not read the correct mph.it fluctuates all over the place and does not settle back to zero.very dangerous issue!!!

Speedometer has completely failed at 46,000 miles therefore it is impossible to know how fast i am driving.

-the contact ownsa 2004 chevrolet tahoe with an odometer reading of 80000 miles.the contact noticed that when driving for a long period of time and coming to a complete stop then start moving again the speedometer will stay at zero. The contact stated that the only way to get the speedometer to work againwas to turn the vehicle off, then let it sit for a moment and restart. This problem made the contact run out of gas several times since the gas gauge didnot working properly, the oil gaugewasincorrect as well.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, and they told him that the instrument panel needed to be replaced.

One day while traveling on the highway at around 70 mph, the speedometer was acting strange.the speedometer was jerky.once i got off the highway and came to a complete stop the speedometer went pass 0 mph.then when i got going again on city streets the speedometer was off by 20 mph.eventually the speedometer stop working on that trip.ever since that day the speedometer has been jerky and sometimes reporting the wrong speed or not working at all.

First problem is that the instrument cluster stops and starts working at random times not knowing how fast you're going. Chevy said they were familiar with the problem but would only fix it up to 80,000 miles.not sure what kind of recall dose that.second problem is when i got a flat tire, i nor the auto roadside assistance man could get the spare tire down.the car stranded until i took the entire wheel off the car and to the repair shop to get fixed and brought it back to re-install it. The dealer has been the only place that can actually get it to unlatch and admits it a bad design.i'm always apprehensive about getting a flat and being stranded.

My 2004 chevrolet tahoe has a speedometer that is non-working. I contacted a chevrolet dealership about repair and it will cost $500.00. I checked the internet and found multiple parties with the same problem. I am requesting that nhtsa require chevrolet to place a recall on this repair with so many requests out there.as stated by others, this is a very expensive automobile and with many others having this same problem it should be taken care of by chevrolet.

Speedometer started sticking. Sometimes it fixes itself. Other times it stops and won't go below 30. Today it wouldn't go lower than 60. Also, it will be buried and you have no idea how fast you are going.

Speedometer began malfunctioning and a clicking sound was coming from the dash somewhere.sometimes will register speed properly but then will say i'm traveling at 0 mph or 120 mph.

2004 chevy tahoe electrical system: instrument panel.

Speedometer erratic on 2004 chevy tahoe.says i am going 120 parked, and 30 when i am going 70.

Driving vehicle, looked to check my speed and showed i was driving around 30 mph i know i was driving faster than that because my rpm's showed 2000.then speedometer changed to 110, then continued to fluctuate back and forth.this has been going on 6-8 months now, to no avail dealership stated in the past no recall to fix this problem.mileage of original incident 60,000-65,000 miles.

In aug 2008 my speedometer started acting improperly. It would work off and on. Then eventually it stopped working all together. I was ok driving on highway because the tachometer was still working. Just recently the tac stopped also. This has to be a safety issue and should be recalled. I am just worried that i pay $600 to get it fixed and it happens again.

2004 tahoe (now 81,000 mi) - sticking/misreading speedometer.problem first appeared infrequently approx 3 years ago.it now happens every time i drive after dark and over 65mpr (interstate travel).i have noticed that if anything else is in use at the moment (a/c, dvd player, passenger lighting, windshield wipers, dashlighting) the speedometer always sticks.resetting it requires me to restart the vehicle (depending on where speedometer stuck) up to 20 times.(it resets 5 mpr at a time)i used to be able to pull the fuse and replace it for a quick fix, those days are long gone.

Looked down at the speedometer and it read 90 mph when i was only going about 55 mph.then when stopped it doesn't go to zero it stays at around 25-35 mph, standing still.

Instrumentation problem.speedometer stepper motor does not reset to zero.this results in the inaccurate reporting of vehicle speed.this is a safety hazard.this issue is widely reported throughout the internet.we lent a ton of money to gm and they need to be called to the carpet to remedy these issues promptly.

Speedometer went haywire it started to get stuck while driving. Then when the car is turned off it doesn't zero out. In order to get the needle to return to zero you have to turn the car on and off until it drop to zero. I called the chevrolet customer service center they referred me to the dealership and the want to charge me $ 600 to fix the problem that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

The rpm and speed gauges on my instrument panel are not working.

My speedometer quit working all of a sudden.

2004 chevorlet tahoe speedometer began to show that the speed was to slow than i was going. Now its showing i am going faster than i am. Tonight my speedometer is stuck on 0 mph.

2004 chevy tahoe faulty speedometer started occurring in january 2007 as of today 2/14/07 it is inaccurate each time auto is started. Never resets itself. Have not had it repaired as the costs are too expensive for an issue that is clearly a gm problem. This needs to be recalled as there are thousands of people with same issue.

My speedometer quit working.beforehand the oil gauge quit working.only when its hot outside or i have been driving my vehicle for approx 30 mins, the speedometer quits working.i have been the soul owner of this vehicle since i bought it off the lot in 2004.i was never notified of any recalls.

Speedometer and tach not working, speedometer stuck at 120 mph, tach jumps all over the place. This is a safety issue and i have seen on topic.net thousands of people not knowing what speed they are going!

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the vehicle was taken to the repair shop for regular maintenance.the gauge was checked and the repair shop replaced the sensor because it was faulty.the contact received a letter from gm stating that the vehicle could develop a failure due to the instrument panel.the dials on the instrument panel could display an inaccurate reading.the letter further stated that if the vehicle had less than 70,000 miles, the instrument cluster would be replaced.the contact's vehicle was outside of the specified mileage.the failure mileage was 64,000 and current mileage was 72,526.

Several months ago i started to notice problems with the speedometer on my 2004chevy tahoe.it does not register the correct speed sometimes.seems to be getting worse.there is no specific time or driving condition that this occurs.last noticed the problem while driving on the turnpike.the speedometer reads 35 when i was actually going over 60.something really needs to be done about this.i cannot afford to have a new speedometer put in the vehicle at $500.00.

Driving along on the highway and the speedometer starts going crazy says i am going 120mphit still doing itauto nation in roswell gawants$ 600 their is a recall but says my truck is too old but has the right mileage .

Speedometer sticks at 25-30 mph over what the actual speed should be...never resets to 0 when the vehicle is off...i list this as 1 failure because it never corrected itself after the initial failure.

I have a 2004 tahoe at 41k miles, suddenly the speedometer malfunction; when i ran at driveway the speedometer showed over 120 mph; even when i stop, turn off engine the speedometer still show over 120mph and stuck like that forever.

Speedometer intermittently quits working.you can be driving along at 60 mph and 50 miles later, the speedometer has gone to 0 while you are traveling down the interstate.if you stop, turn off the engine and get out of the car, then restart the car, the speedometer will work again for a little ways.

I have a 2004 chevy tahoe. My instrument panel is messed up. My speedometer does not work, it flutters or pegs out all the way.now my oil gauge is bottom out.in researching the internet, i see that this is a common problem and that chevy will only fix it if you have less than 70,000 miles.i have over 100,000 miles on my car and i consider it a safety hazard.98% of the time i do not know how fast i am really going.i heard that a recall will not be issued because it is not a "safety hazard".well i disagree, because people are not always aware of their fuel level, how fast/slow they are really driving.

I have a 2004 chevrolet tahoe lt.the speedometer has been acting very erratic - reading 35, 45, 75, etc. While stopped and 125+ while traveling at 50 mph...i have read hundreds of similar complaints and my chevrolet dealer immediately knew what the problem was just by giving a brief description and wants to replace the entire instrument cluster for $400+this is outrageous - so much money was spent on these vehicles and chevrolet cannot acknowledge that it is a defect which can very easily pose a safety hazard.see attached link to view hundreds of similar issues:http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-tahoe/t2bgkbgi55eknu77c/p2

Tachometer & speedometer failed at approx. 75,000 & 80,000 respectively. Speedometer failure presents a safety hazard.intermittent failure of lights on dashboard system.

Speedometer on 2004 chevrolet tahoe no longer is accurate.it reflects 120 mph when the vehicle is not moving.

2004 chevy tahoe (108k miles) speedometer was stuck at 70 mph, then slowly decreased down to zero.over the next 3 weeks it became more sporadic and now it only reads "0" all the time.mechanic wanted to charge me $350 to replace the entire instrument cluster.this is a known defect and chevy should take responsibility for it.

2003 chevy tahoe, 44,000 miles.speedometer failed.stuck on 40 mph.dealer/manufacturer will not cover repair, which is very expensive.

2004 chevy tahoe with 33,605 miles and speedometer has stopped functioning, rest of instrument panel working fine.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.while driving 55 mph the speedometer would stick at a particular speed.after twenty minutes of driving, the speedometer would fall and remain at zero.the dealer has not inspected the vehicle.the failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 86,000.the vin was unavailable. Updated 02-01-08 updated 02/01/08

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the contact received a letter from the manufacturer stating that the instrument panel gauge may malfunction, resulting in incorrect readings on the speedometer.presently, while driving at various speeds, the fuel gauge dial will sporadically drop to empty and the vehicle will shut off.the contact also stated that the speedometer malfunctions and displays the incorrect speed; however, it resets itself automatically within two to three days.the dealer stated that they were not obligated to repair the vehicle because it has exceeded 70,000 miles.the failure mileage was 85,000 and current mileage was 107,827.

I own a used 2004 chevy tahoe and have recently started having speedometer problems, i was told by the dealership that this was a covered item to fix free of charge because of some special class action, but however my tahoe has just over 72,000 miles that it is now not covered. Please explain to me why it is not covered. Thanks jill owens

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact was unable to determine the speed while driving the vehicle. The speedometer indicated 30 mph, but the contact stated that the vehicle was traveling slower. When the contact turned off the vehicle, the speedometer displayed 10 mph. The instrument panel would illuminate, but the fuel gauge, speedometer, oil pressure gauge, and rpm gauge would malfunction. An independent mechanic stated that the entire instrument panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 206,530.

My 2004 tahoe has an erratic speedometer that is constantly indicating incorrect speeds. I have been on a highway doing approximately 60 mph and it indicates zero. Sometimes it hits 20 mph and gets stuck regardless of speed.

My husband was driving on the interstate on his way to work in our 2004 chevrolet tahoe with current mileage of 39,000 miles, and the speedometer suddenly locked up at 53 mph, it will not move.

Speedometer would freeze at 50 then 70 then 35 and now just stuck on 0.54000 miles on the vehicle.$3-500 repair job.makes imports look good.

I own a 2004 chevrolet tahoe that has had a malfunctioning speedometer since 65,000 miles. I now have 71,500 miles on the vehicle. Chevrolet has sent out a "special provision by gm" letter, not a recall that states they will fix the problem if the vehicle is 7 year or 70,000 old. That is not even the national average on mileage. I have to fix this out of my pocket! what can be done?

My speedometer malfunctioned while i was driving. I was unable to tell my accurate speed. I had to take my vehicle to the dealership and have the instrument cluster replaced with an instrument cluster that had been repaired. I was without my vehicle for two days. I have an extended warranty and therefore had to pay my portion ($100.00).

2004 chevrolet tahoe speedometer cluster failed around thanksgiving 2008 while i was out of state and not near a chevrolet dealership.i was over the extended cover allowance on miles.speedometer clusters on several makes and models for chevrolet vehicles are having this problem and chevrolet is not recalling them.speedometer only works sometimes.half of the speedometer is light up while other half is not.speedometer shows 20 miles an hour when traveling at least 60 miles per hour.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the speedometer malfunctioned.when the vehicle was stopped, the dial would display 30 mph.the dealer stated that the cluster needed to be replaced.no repairs were made.the current and failure mileages were 111,000.

My speedometer has been freezing up and not working properly lately. Sometimes, especially when it's cold out, the speedometer will stay at 0 mph and not even move - once it does get going, it go up, but when i come to a complete stop, it won't go back to 0 - it may stop at 20 or 30. Sometime, the speedometer will even exceed the max speed on the dash and i know i'm not going that fast. This problem seems to be a reoccuring issue with many users of a '04 chevy tahoe - i would think this would warrant a recall if this many people are having the same problem. I have heard gm had sent out a letter addressing this issue, but will only cover it if there's 70,000 or less on the vehicle - what do the people do if they are over that mark, we shouldn't have to pay for this - especially if everyone is having the same problem - this seems to be a safety issue as well. What can be done?

Electrical system: instrumental panel.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.while driving 10 mph, the speedometer displayed 60 mph.the failure occurred intermittently.the dealer stated that because there was a service bulletin regarding the failure and the mileage on the vehicle exceeded 80,000, no compensation would be provided.the manufacturer agreed with the dealer.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 77,000 and current mileage was 98,000.

2004 chevy tohoe, the speedometer gets stuck and says you are going 100mph

My 2004 chevy tahoe has a defective speedometer. At 37,500 miles, conveniently just after warranty expired, the speedometer needle started jumping erratically, and then a few days later, it quit working completely. I have been informed by 2 local dealers in the s.f. Bay area that it will cost approx $600-900 to repair, and i will be without my vehicle for up to a week. Unfortunately, i cannot be without it b/c i work full time and am a single mother. I did see on ebay that there is a person that can repair the cluster and it is a whole lot cheaper than taking it to the dealer, but i would be without the whole cluster for quite some time. This is dangerous! i have been driving for several months not having a clue as to how fast i am actually driving, and it makes me really nervous.i cannot afford the $600-900 to have it repaired, and feel that gm should be forced to recall and repair this problem immediately! come on, this has affected thousands of people already!

My speedometer started acting erratically, showing the incorrect speed or no speed at all, compared to the actual velocity of the vehicle. And now it simply no longer works and i cannot tell how fast i am going.

The speedometer in my 2004 tahoe has been reading erratic speeds. This started at about 80,000 miles, called gm they said they would replace if under 70,000 miles. Need help!

2004 z71 chevy tahoe.speedometer failed at 54,000 miles.the dial hangs at 90 or 120. I took my vehicle to chevy dealership and was informed that there is no fix other then replacing the entire cluster panel.$800 to replace cluster panel.the dealership will not replace defective speedometer for free.vehicle out of warranty.

Speedometer stopped working at 58,000 miles.

My recently purchased 2004 chevrolet taho z71 has approximately 40,000 miles on it.the speedometer is grossly inaccurate and functions erratically when it does function.shows 30 mph even when parked, but that value jumps around.no trigger event, it just started doing it.consequences are that i don't know what my real speed is and this creates a hazard in traffic.i have not had time to research the problem.based upon my searches i see this is a common problem with a number of gm vehicles.gm needs to issue a recall and fix this problem rather than soaking up our money in repair costs.

Speedometer registers 120 mph at all times.dealer wanted $700+ to replace instrument cluster.pulled cluster myself in ten minutes and sent to instrument repair company in sacramento, ca who replaced all the lights and stepper motors for $155.

2004 chevrolet tahoe.speedometer, fuel gauge went out with 75,000 miles on it. Dash lights going out, air conditioner vents just falling apart.

Speedometer stuck at 120 mph at all times.there is no way to tell how fast vehicle is traveling at any time.tahoe just reached 36000 miles this weekend.what a shame since this is the only vehicle we have to transport our 8-month old in.

While driving my 2004 tahoe down the highway my oil pressure indicator dropped to zero.i pulled over and shut it off.i checked the oil, which was fine, and re-started the vehicle.the pressure returned to normal.two days later the same thing happened except this time i did not get oil pressure back.after having it towed to a shop, needless to say it worked again.at this time i was advised that the oil sending unit may be faulty and paid to have it changed.this did not fix the problem and finally it failed for good.the repair shop verified that the engine did have good oil pressure and that it was an indicating problem.i found a company on-line that repaired instrument panels and chose to take the vehicle home and remove it myself to send off for repair.on the way home, my speedometer malfunctioned and now reads 25 mph at a stand still.one problem i can understand.two problems this close together tells me that this instrument panel is junk.after researching this i have found many others with the same problem.i am extremely upset about the amount of money i have spent for such poor quality.i would hope that gm will back its products and re-call these panels or at least cover the repair costs for the individuals with instrument panel problems.

Speedometer does not work correctly.

I have an 2004 tahoe with 37,000 miles on it and the speedometer does not register the correct speed. When sitting at a complete stop the speedometer will still register that i am still moving. Have spoken to the gm dealership, and theywere aware that therewasa problem, but gm will not address it. Looking at other complaints on the web. Therewere hundreds of gm owners with this same safety relatedproblemscovering many different gm vehicles.

Around 37,000 miles my speedometer began acting up. It will read anything from 0-120 mph at any speed. This has became a major safety concern when traveling at highway speeds and the speedometer reads 70 mph, but until you pass another vehicle and get a sense of your actual speed that i realize the speedometer is stuck, and i really am traveling closer to 85 or 90. Gm has told me that the entire speedometer would have to be replaced at my expense. A cost of around $450.

Normal operation and use, never off road.the speedometer has completely failed.the vehicle has about 40,000 miles.at this time, nothing has been done to correct the problem.

The speedometer is not consistent in detecting actual speed driven.sometimes it will read 40mph when i am actually driving 60 mph. This is dangerous, as this can cause an accident when driving around curbs. Got a quote from dealer to repair which will be around $500. My daughter owns a 2004 trailblazer and has the same problem.

2004 chevy tahoe speedometer failure - a common problem and unsafe.this ought to be a factory recall issue.speedometer reads double speed, half speed or zero.

1. Speedometer stopped working on a 2004 tahoe. 2. Occurs -permanently broken.3.action to correct failure is nothing at this point.speedometer failure occurred at approximately 42k miles.

At 36,000 miles speedometer failed and read wrong speed and then locked at 140 mph. T 40,000 miles the right front wheel speed sensor failed and the braking was reduced.

My 2004 chevrolet tahoe has a problem with the speedometer not giving accurate readings. It will jump from 0 to 120 mph and stick somewhere in between or give a false mph reading or just go to zero and register nothing.the problem seems prevalent with all tahoes. Gm needs to have a recall and fix this dangerous situation instead of charging everybody $500-$900 when they know they have a serious defect. This problem has been ongoing now for the last 2 years.

2004 chevy tahoe had speedometer failure.it went haywire for a couple of days and then went all the way to 140 and stayed there.was told there is recall but only up to 70,000 miles.mine occurred around 80,000.

As my 2004 tahoe approached 43k miles the speedometer began behaving erratically.within 2-3k miles it stopped working completely. Now it only will rise as high as 20-30 mph.

So many... Where do i start?1) at 9,000 mi. Intermediate shaft was replaced due to a popping feeling in the steering, at 16,000 mi. It is doing the same thing again.2) at 9000 miles the instrument cluster was replaced due to a faulty tach motor making a buzzing/rattling sound, started making noise again at 13,000 miles took to dealer and said there is nothing wrong.3)headlights flicker on and off on turns has been to the dealer 5 times since it had 9000 mi.1st 2 times replaced a plug on alternator and said it was fixed, was not then said the found a bad connector still did not fix the problem. The problem still exists contacted gm and they were no help.4) exhaust has been popping since new and sometimes after cool down sounds like something exploded5) engine makes a noise when warmed up took in for service at 12000 miles and they cleaned oil pump pickup tube and said the oil pressure was not correct.this did not fix the problem took back in at 15000 and they stated no problem was foundi was told the engine noise was normal.6)the brakes pulsated when new took back at 59 mi. I was told to drive it and it would get better.started again at 9000 mi. And they turned the rotors.brakes started making a cracking noise in the front took in 3 times found no problem yet when i picked the vehicle up the last time at 15,000 mi the noise went away only to come back a week later.7)when idling the vehicle vibrates bad!!!!dash will rattle and you can feel it in the steering wheel.i was told this was normal when the a/c was on yet it's worse when the a/c is off.now that a/c is making a terrible noise from inside the engine compartment and inside the climate control box area.8) engine has a miss at idle.

Speedometer will malfunction while driving. It will read 35 mph when i am doing at least 70 mph. Other times it will not register anything at all. I have read many posts on the internet that many other gm full size trucks/suvsare having the same issue. This is definitely not safe and when you are trying to exit a highway ramp at the posted speed you can not due to the malfunctioning speedometer. Need a recall to repair thesespeedometers before some serious accidents occur.

I have a 2004 chevrolet tahoe with 68,863 miles.the speedometer starting reading 20 miles an hour yesterday when parked.when driving the speedometer is erratic and reads approximately 20-30 miles an hour faster than i believe i am traveling.i have researched and found many reports of this problem.this is a severe safety issue and this defect is a problem the manufacturer should repair at no charge.recall this vehicle.

Last october, while driving my 2004 chevy tahoe lt, the tachometer on the instrument cluster failed after an acceleration eventand never functioned again. Since it was the tachometer element, it did not raise any significant concern, only disappointment. However, on 3/15/2013, the analog oil pressure gaugeneedle went all the way to the right ( indicating failure, i assume) and then on 3/30/2013, the speedometer began to function on an intermittent basis and continues to do so. After reading some of the 341 complaints on line, i cannot believe gm gets a pass on a critical safety/legal component like the cluster group and no recall has been issued. In general, what authority does the nhtsa have in coercing auto manufacturers to issue recalls in the u.s.?

As i have read in prior complaints that have been filed on this web site, the speedometer on my vehicle also does not register correctly. I know of at least 4 other tahoe owners, and 1 3/4 ton z71 owner (all 2004 models who have experienced the same problems with their vehicles. I am a single mom and given what i have paid for my vehicle used i simply cant afford to pay the extra 400 dollars to fix the problem that obviously began during manufacturing. (why else would multiple vehicles all over the country have the same issue.)

Speedometer stuck it will be at 50 sitting in driveway.

2004 tahoe: speedometer reads crazy during long trip.have read about this issue and now it has happened to my tahoe.it's now a permanent issue and i rely on my gps device to monitor my speed.i'm waiting for the other cluster instruments to fail and then i will have to replace the parts on all.it's pathetic that gm will not recall this as a serious safety issue.it's not like you can drive without this gauge - will gm pay my tickets?

2004 chevy tahoe speedometer sticks at various speed levels and intermittently will not return to zero when the vehicle is not in motion. Speedometer can stick at excessive speeds indicated on the cluster, this had intermittently effected the cruise control operation.this was a known issue by gm, no recall was provided.my vehicle is over 80,000 (82,500) miles.issue started with my vehicle at about 78k, but was not brought in by me to gm because there was not an announced recall.gm decided to replace the clusters for customers who had the defect occur between 70 and 80k, with a charge for the labor, not the part.given the fact this is a safety issue (speed indication and intermittent cruise control, gm should provide full replacement, parts and labor.

Owner of 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The speedometer began to act erraticly recently and became completely unreliable.after checking local gm dealership, service person said that since the car is out of warranty, the expense would be between 500 to 600 dollars and take three to four days to repair. This seemed difficult for me to believe, so i phoned another gm dealership, and they said that the repair would be between 400 to 500 dollars. That particular dealership said they could have the part ordered and at their location within 24 hours, and it would only take an hour to install.i phoned local parts stores and then became aware to the host of problems related to gm speedometers between the years of 2003 and 2004, and they said the only place to purchase the instrument panel cluster was through a gm dealership, or salvage yard.i completely wrote off the salvage yard, as how could i be certain that the salvaged part would not likewise become unreliable.as another resource, i checked the internet, and to my surprise, there was row after row, after row, of consumers whose gm products similar to mine had experienced the identical problem with their speedometers.after reading so many testimonials of disappointed drivers who were like me, thrown into the uncertainty of how fast or slow they were going, i felt compelled to write to you.everyone in our family is at risk when we drive or ride in this automobile, and the dealers' discrepancy in the approach to repair the speedometer leaves me wanting to try another reputable repair service.i phoned two other gm dealerships, today, but they were closed on saturday.this certainly must be a problem that you have become aware of over the past several months, and i would much appreciate your advice in the direction i should go from here.my sincerest gratitude.michael hughes.

At about 60,000 miles the speedometer began acting erratically so you couldn't tell how fast you were going.it consider this dangerous.the speedometer is now usually reading simply about 120 mph at all times.still no recall on this item that i know of.after checking a little bit on the internet, it is obvious that this is an overwhelmingly large issue for gm owners.

Bought a used 2004 chevy tahoe with 73,000 miles on july 5th 2007, went on vacation 2 weeks later and the speedometer got stuck at 60 miles per hour and know is very erratic and gets stuck at different speeds all the time.also fuel gage does not work at all is backwards on the gage so never know how much gas is actually in the vehicle.

My '04 chevy tahoe's speedometer, with only 40,000 miles, just quite working and is stuck on 55 even when it sits on the garage.after seeing hundreds of similar complaints on-line, it appears to be a widespread problem with similar gm models.

2004 chevy tahoe speedometer failure, while driving speedometer stopped working, went way past 0 and would not show speed while driving, turned vehicle off still not working once turning it back on. Just purchased vehicleand dealer said to check recalls, nothing listed about this problem but found website discussing lawsuit about this problem on alot of vehicles.

My speedometer is has started acting up.it says that i am going 90 when i am sitting still.it happens everytime i drive my car.i have not tried to have it fixed yet.

Speedometer is erratic and unreliable. On chevy suv chat sites this is a apparently a common problem and related to a defective part.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the contact set the cruise control at 60 mph when he noticed the speedometer increased to 120 mph.he deactivated the speed control and pulled off the road.when he turned off the vehicle, the needle remained at 120 mph.the following day, the speedometer fluctuated from 100 to 0 and began working normally for over one year before the failure recurred.the contact received a letter from general motors stating that the special extended warranty for the instrumental cluster panel would be repaired for free within 7 years or 70,000 miles, whichever came first.the vehicle is over 70,000 miles.the manufacturer advised him to take the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnosis.the current mileage was 79,400 and failure mileage was 64,000. Updated 12/04/07

Speedometer cluster was not reading correctly, then eventually it just stopped working all together.pulled over multiple times due to not knowing the speed i am traveling.

The original equipment battery, ac delco 72 month battery cracked 26 months into the warranty spilling acid onto the washer fluid bottle mounted below the battery.the acid melted the o-rings in the pump assemble for the front and rear wipers causing a leak.the pump assembles have to be replaced at a cost of over $200.the vehicle is out of warranty and ac delco is not responsible for incidental damage.someone should pay for repairs on my vehicle.

Dt: contact stated the battery failed. The service dealer replaced an air conditioningmodule. Also, while drivingandturning the wheellostbraking capability, the pedal went to the floor. Dealership verified this wa shappening, but did not know what caused the malfunction.the contact attempted to contact the manufacturer.

More so when it is below 40 f outside, the horn will not work. The keyless remote will work and sound the horn.i never know when it will work or fail.i have seen a nhtsa id # 10013378 (tsb #3300c) that seems very similar to what i am experiencing but i have not been able to find out details about it.i have searched online and have found numerous similar issues with other gm products from 2002 to 2005.i am concerned that when i need to use the horn, it will not work.

Dt*:the contact stated while traveling 65 mph, smoke flowed from under the hood.the vehicle was pulled over and the hood was raised.there was a fire in the fuse box that was extinguished with water.a police report was taken.the vehicle was towed to the dealership where the entire wiring for the vehicle was replaced.once the contact took possession of the vehicle, the warning lights illuminated and the audible warnings buzzed.the vehicle was taken back to the dealership who determined there was a short in the wiring system, but there was no repair.

Vehicle goes into reduced engine power and engine light goes on. Vhicle has been in the shop 4 times for he same problem.

1. While driving on the interstate at approx. 55-65 mps, my 2004 chevy tahoe shut down almost causing an accident. This has happen to me several time until i found out the mileage, fuel and the hole system wasn't tell the correct reading. 2. Also the air stops blowing on the passing side when the as is on. When the ac is off it still blows heat only on the passenger side. 3. When your driving the vehicle and stops at a red light then get back on the gas to pull off it acts like it don't want to pull until i get off the gas then get back on it like the transmission is slipping. So i had the strainer, filter and gasket change on the transmission and it still does it. 4. When i get ready to park the truck does put-put sound like it wants to shut off then it picks back up.

When you press on the gas pedal under normal conditions, the stabilitracksensors kicks in for no reason and slow down the vehicle nearly causing an accident. I had this repaired once but after a few months continued to do it again. Seems like a safety issue to me.it happens moreoften in the cold

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact was driving 20 mph. The stability track warning light illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer on numerous occasions for this failure.the manufacturer was contacted and informed her that they would contact the dealer to determine how to repair the continuing failure. The failure mileage was 43,000.

My2004 chevy tahoe lt was moving when the rear view mirror fell off the windshield.also the exhaust manifold bolts have broken off which cause bad gas mileage and slow take offs.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that ten minutes after the vehicle was parked, it caught fire. The fire department was called and extinguished the fire. The contact was unsure as to where the fire originated. A fire report was filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a tow facility. It was unknown yet if the vehicle was destroyed. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolettahoe. While driving approximately 35 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The contact managed to pull over and stop the vehicle. The vehicle was able to restart on the second attempt. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 158,498.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle used excessive anti freeze. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle had a defective castech head that leaked coolant. The technician also diagnosed that the castech heads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000. The vin was not provided.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle was using too much antifreeze. The dealer diagnosed that the cast tech heads needed to be replaced because they leaked antifreeze. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000.

The rear main deal went bad in almost all of the trucks and suvs with a 4.8l or 5.3l engine in them where the pour oil everywhere and this could be considered an epa violation and a fire hazard it needs to be recalled asap so we can save lives and save the environment

Cylinder heads are leaking coolant into the engine.this causes excessive lifter noise when first started after the engine has been sitting for several hours and requires coolant to be added almost daily.this condition will eventually ruin the engine requiring the engine to be replaced.this problem is known by gm to be a defect in the casting process, yet no help is offered by gm to fix the problem.

I got an engine light about beginning of november code was p0430, definition is "catalyst system efficiency bank 2", this could be caused by high engine oil or coolant usage.knowing this i check my tahoe for coolant leaks, no visible leaks at all, i take the cover off the cylinder head and i find a lot of sludge, now i know where the antifreeze is going.my tahoe is still running but with the engine light on and with a misfire due to the porous cylinder head, don't know how much more is going to last and can't really stop the tahoe because it's a daily driver.

Gm used defective engine cylinder heads for millions of 4.8/5.3 liter v8 engines from 2001-2006. The cylinder heads crack causing coolant to flow into the oil and cause excessive sludge to form and cause engine failure. Gm knows about the problem and issued tsb to it's service departments:1information on gradual coolant loss over time with no evidence of leak found #06-06-01-019b - (06/12/2007). These defective cylinder heads can cause overheating and complete engine failure.

Engine started with a ticking noise when cold.would go away after engine warmed up.upon inspection found 2 exhaust manifold bolts sheared on #7 cylinder, 1 broken on #8.ticking coming from exhaust leak on #7.upon research found that this is a common issue with these engines.why is there no recall or safety notice as it presents a real hazard for fire and exhaust fumes entering passenger compartment.

Exhaust manifold bolts broken off at rear of engine on both sides.

Vehicle begins to idle rough, noticed tahoe consumes coolant at an abnormal rate, approximately 1gal/month!! our local chevy dealer coded for flex fuel sensor replacement $1400! no change in condition of vehicle.idle is now very very low!my wife picks up our kids, tahoe would stop running while making a turn at an intersection!!! no power = no power steering!! she barely avoids an accident!!she along with the kids will not ride in the (family car) the tahoe until it is fixed.don't trust our local chevy dealership, due to lack of integrity!!we were proud and loyal chevy owners, we also own a 91 gmc sierra 1500 5.7l with 232000 mi. And a 98 chevy 1500 v-6 113590 mi pick-up, both still running very strong with absolutely no issues!researched this issue, defective castech heads, gm is aware of this problem, tsb 06-06-01-019b, very disappointed to state the least of how gm is handling this situation.complained to gm corporate, they stated they will not be able to assist and that we would have to take it to our local dealership where integrity runs very thin!! i am a proud msgt in the usaf, and full time firefighter, if we cant trust "the heartbeat of america,"who the hell can we trust!!this problem has cost put our family in the hole for $3800 now and it looks like if we move forward to fix ourselves we will be in excess of $5800 for the heads to be serviced or $8600 for new motor swap!!! gm needs to take responsibility recall this and get this issue squared away and maybe salvage what is left of a loyal gm supporter.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and caused all the instrument panel lights to illuminate. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not provided. The failure mileage was 126,000.

Drove vehicle out of town on christmas holiday trip. After being parked overnight starting vehicle next am big cloud of white gray smoke upon start. Coolant low. Refilled coolant and drove home. Now vehicle constantly leaks coolant with no apparent leak under vehicle or in engine compartment. Oil sludges between oil changes. White smoke after a 30 min drive every time. Gm has bulletin out for bad heads installed and the part number and symptoms matched cracked heads on my vehicle. Dealer aware and sees often not only in this vehicle but all 5.3 engines from a certain time span. Dealer states will only fix at cost of consumer even though bulletin is known. This could cause an overheat situation or engine failure at a bad time or worse. Why are they not made to stand behind this when problem is known? a quick search on google will overwhelm a computer with so many accounts of this problem.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the contact's residence where an independent mechanic diagnosed that the fuel injectors and spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

The engine cylinder heads for the 5.3l gm motors built by castech leak coolant into the engine causing engine overheat and internal engine failures. Gm has issued a technical bulletin #060601019b to address the issue and diagnose the issue. Gm will not offer customers any financial help in the replacement of the defective parts. This issue effects the safety of the vehicle and the safety of the persons in and around the vehicle. The fouled engine oil causes the lifters to fail, the oil pressure to drop and the engine to lock up due to lack of lubrication by the fouled oil and the driver has no way of knowing this is happening as there is no external indicators.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While driving 40 mph, the warning light illuminated a "low power mode" message. The contact stated that steam was emitting from under the hood. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and lifted the hood for the vehicle to cool off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact stated that the cylinder head cracked around the oil drain holes. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.updated 09/29/16*lj updated 06/15/18

The exhaust manifold bolts that thread into the cylinder heads holding the cast iron exhaust manifolds in place onto the heads break off under normal road conditions. The bolts break off and were causing an exhaust leak. My vehicle's exhaust was coming inside the vehicle making occupants ill. The steel manifold bolts are undersized for the application, and being used on iron manifolds mating to aluminum cylinder heads. I have to pay the $1000+ repair cost to fix an apparent manufacturing failure that should be recalled. No only do the broken bolts cause exhaust leaks and noise, but puts the vehicle in this condition as a possible fire risk.

The tahoe has known faulty castech cylinders which cause coolant to leak with no explanation.over the winter i have had unexplained coolant/antifreeze issue with no found leaks (coolant would be bone dry after a couple weeks of filling it).i was told the issue is probably caused by the faulty porous cylinder heads made by castech installed in gm's from 2001 - 2006.this tahoe has a total of 80,000 miles now and experiencing issues due to known faulty parts installed by gm.chevrolet has to be aware of the danger they are putting their customers in by not having a recall of a faulty part located in the engine.how there has not been a recall i do not understand.how chevrolet expect the customer to pay 3-4k to replace their faulty head is ludicrous.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the engine warning light illuminated. The contact discovered that the engine overheated because the coolant reservoir was empty. The contact dispensed coolant into the reservoir. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed that the engine block and the cylinder head were improperly designed and contributed to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 92,000. The vin was not available.

Vehicle registered "reduced engine power" while i was on the highway, i was able to get to the shoulder, online research showed numerous incidents involving the throttle body sensor and the wires crimping, there was something about the wiring harness being covered by gm but it does not appear on a recall list.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that there was a cooling fluid leak, and she had to add cooling fluid consistently. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who stated that there was cooling fluid leaking into the oil pan in the engine. The failure was reported to the manufacturer who acknowledged there was a technical service bulletin, but refused to provide assistance for the repair. The failure mileage was 84,000. The current mileage was 86,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the cylinder heads fractured on the vehicle and the engine overheated. The contact had the vehicle inspected by a mechanic and it was found that coolant leaked into the engine. The contact was told that if this continues the engine will eventually fail. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 115,000 and the current mileage was 117,000.

I started having problems with my 2004 chevy tahoe is september 2009 when the vehicle only had 71,000 miles.the vehicle was using a lot of oil and i took it to the dealership and they notified me that their was no oil leaks and performed a compression test.since that date i have needed to add additional oil in between oil changes.in the last couple of months it started to use a lot of coolant.i have added about 4 gallons of coolant in the past two months.i took the vehicle to the dealer and was notified that the left cylinder head was leaking coolant in the engine.after further research i found that the castech heads in this model were porous which caused them to crack. The dealer is recommending that the engine be replaced at a cost of $6400.i feel chevy should be responsible for this repair since they are aware that the problem has to do with the castech heads.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that coolant was slowly leaking into the cylinder head, causing the engine to overheat.the dealer was notified of the failure who advised that the cylinder head be replaced. There were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was notified who advised that the contact should take the vehicle to the dealer for repairs. They offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 105,000.

The gm 5.3l built between 2002 and 2006 using castek corporation engine heads were incorrectly built per gm and castek. The heads leak engine coolant into the combustion chambers and burns off causing the engine to overheat. Gm has issued a technical bulletin regarding this issue and requests the heads be changed out but at the clients expense.with the loss of coolant and inevitable engine damage this is a safety hazard and should be a recall and replaced at gm cost.technical bulletin 06-06-01-019b issued 6/12/2007.

Idling or when vehicle ishot it backs fires.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Dt: while driving on the interstate at 76 mph the vehicle was stalled, andtheengine cut off. The owner had to pull over and restart it. Vehicle started back up,and died twice after that within 40 miles. The owner stated that there was no check engine light. The owner called onstar and they didn't see a problem. The owner statedvehicle lost power steering and brakes when the engine cut off. The car was taken to the dealership, and they could not duplicate problem. The ownercontacted chevrolet, and they stated that they will look into the problem, and advised the owner to call back today. The problemhappened since last year. The owner was still driving,it but did not want the car anymore since it was not safe to drive.

Dt:the caller statedvehicle stalls. This happens when driving at slower speeds and idling. The engine hesitated just before it stalled. Dealer said the problem was in a computer chip the first time. The second time he had it in they told him he may be out of gas they could not duplicate the problem. Manufacturer was called and he filed a complaint with them.

Electrical panel does not work properly. Have not had a correct reading in months.

2004 tahoe, 79,000 miles.engine overheated which could have caused fire if i had not noticed and stopped.gm dealer says overheaing due to crack in cylinder head and confirmed tsb 06-06-01-019b (06/12/2007) applies to vehicle, which admits there is known manufacturing defect in certain cylinder heads which can cause engine coolant to leak internally causing overheating and potential engine failure.dealer refuses to cover repair.i have pending complaint with gm customer service to pay for damage.i think this should be a recall as it can lead to overheating, engine failure and potential fire.there are multiple reports on internet of same problems by other owners.

Blower resistor caught fire inside of the vehicle on passenger side where it plugs into the front blower motor.

Loud popping/pinging sound coming from front of vehicle when the vehicle is idle position or when it has been turned off.

2004 chevy tahoe speedometer quit working. Stays on 55 mph even when engine is off. Told it would be about $800 to fix. Now oil gauge is not working properly. It does not drop to zero. Oil in engine is at proper level.

Consuming oil and water - needing 1-2 quarts of oil and 1 gallon water/coolant per 900 miles.no leaks, no dripping, no spots on garage floor.at start up, there is a large cloud of blue/white smoke from exhaust.sometimes there is a very loud tapping in the engine until well after reaching normal temperature.oil and water is being consumed internally - due to crack in cylinder head which is a known issue with certain engine blocks.

2004 chevy tahoe with castech heads has a history of running hot or overheating with little warning.in the cooler months, will fail to heat the interior of the vehicle without warning.can leave drivers and passengers (likely children) without transportation in a harsh environment.

Coolant loss without signs of leak. Loss of oil with no signs of leak. Lifters chattering on cold start.puff of white smoke on start-up. Loss of oil pressure. Defective cylinder heads made by castech.

So many... Where do i start?1) at 9,000 mi. Intermediate shaft was replaced due to a popping feeling in the steering, at 16,000 mi.

There is a very obvious pop/ping, almost like a bell like sound that is coming from the underside of the vehicle.this happens when the vehicle has been driven for a while and the sound can be heard during idle or immediately after the car has been turned off.

I have been hearing a rattling sound underneath my car while driving. Also when i turn off the car, especially when the car has been driven for a while, i hear a popping noise, maybe from the muffler area. I was told today that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced. I bought the car new, so i don't understand how that could be already with only 85k on the car.

Purchased new 2004 z-71 tahoe 06-30-04. Noticed vehicle had a loud popping sound comming from exhaust. Dealer had a bulletin stating gm acknowledged problem but had no fix. Contacted gm six weeks ago and was told the problem would be resolved by the middle of october.have not yet been contacted....

On date stated, our 2004 chevy tahoe vin [xxx], left the roadway, became air borne, landed on its nose, deployed the air bags, and ended up upside down.according to onstar, they should have been notified when the air bags deployed, but the system failed and did not send notification.there were no life threatening injuries, but had this been at night, and the accident not witnessed by others who came to our aid.the outcome could have been entirely different.it is our desire that this situation be elevated to the proper level within gm, onstar, and specifically chevrolet, so that the proper research can be done where the system will not fail in similar circumstances in the future.the system is designed to save lives, but if it does not work, is useless and much advertising to the contrary is very misleading.thank you for your attention to this.[xxx] gb.

While driving vehicle with air conditioner on, extreme heat started to blow out of drivers side vents, while cold air continued to blow out of passenger side. This problem happens everytime the vehicle is in operation.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the rear passenger side brake lights failed to engage. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the rear passenger signal socket and the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 06e026000 (exterior lighting). The approximate failure mileage was 198,000.

2004 tahoe lights (headlamp, running and turn signals) explode or burn out repeatedly due to the lens filling with water.issue has been occurring since vehicle was new.my fault i have never taken it to the dealer, i have just been replacing the bulbs and draining the water.maybe gm can look at improvements for the next generation of tahoe.

Running lights and head light fills with water and burn out bulbs and rusted the bulb assembly.

Driver side fog lamp came free on the front bumper, dangling by the electrical cable in front of the driver side tire. Faulty engineering regarding the placement and secure of the fog lamp onto the front bumper. The large fog lamp eventually came free and obviously went under the tire, as it dangled directly in front of the tire at a high rate of speed, potentially causing a punctured tire and potential accident at a high rate of speed. Additionally, the fog lamp had potential to injure others driving behind me, impacting their windshield at a high rate of speed on the highway, as it cleared my vehicle after detachment.

When using the left turn signal the flashers are activated and not the turning signal itself.

My wife and i bought the vehicle new.it was always kept in a garage and driven very little.as of today it only has 30,000 miles on it.to begin with, on or near march 2007 after exiting the vehicle i noticed a strong smell of gasoline.i looked under the car and i saw a fairly heavy dripping of gas from the top of the gas tank.i drove it to a mechanic that i have been using for many years.he told me that he had a hard time finding where the gas was coming from but with a mirror , he was able to see that it was coming from the fuel pump or what he called the fuel sending unit.he said it appearred to be coming from the pump in thr top of the tank and that it was badly rusted and needed to be replaced.i called the dealer from who we had bought the tahoe and asked if there were any recalls to this.they said no.i should also tell you that the mechanic told me that he had replaced many of this same tanks.he said it was built in such a way as to be shaped like a bowl and that the water just laid in it.it cost me 750.00 to get a new fuel sending unit put in.about 4 years later, the exact same thing happened.the entire top of the pump was rusted out and again gas leaked out .enough gas leaked out to almost cover my entire garage floor.this really kind of scared me.even just any kink of a small sparkand not only me but my hole house with five other people not might of got hurt, with this much gas we would have been dead..again i checked for recalls of which there were none and ended having again a new fuel pump installed.the only difference being thathe.

Smell of fuel for about a week brought it to evans automotive st aug. Fl. 32080. They contacted me and told me flaw in design of tank water gets up on top of tank and sits there. This rots out sending unit and fuel pump as well as locking studs that hold down this one piece unit.tank is plastic but studs that lock in part are metal they rot making tank very very dangerous. They said i was very lucky the truck did not catch fire with my family and i in it. They said the smallest spark would have caused the truck to catch fire. To repair this it is going to run about 1500.00, or try to find a used tank in good shape. They are telling me weather new or used this is going to happen again over time. The flaw is that there is no way for water to get out of bowl shape where fuel pump is. That makes it very dangerous. When looking for tank it says tank from 2003 to 2009 fit. That means other trucks have same problem such as chevy, gmc, pickups, sierra, silverdos, yukon ect.please look into this before someone or some family gets killed. Thank you!

Approx. 6 months ago i was driving when a vehicle entered the intersection in front of me.i stepped on the brakes and the pedal went to the floor.luckily there was no crash but my vehicle just barely came to a stop.towed the vehicle to a dealership and found all the brake lines were rusted out and needed to be replaced.on 3/28/14 i began noticing strong gas fumes coming from my vehicle.i again took it it in and found the fuel pump assembly, all the fuel hoses, and the straps and bolts that hold the fuel tank were rusted out.i read that nhtsa was doing a study of this issue.i understand my vehicle is 10 years old and i live in the northeast but i observed a lot of rust under my vehicle.i am a police officer and a crash reconstructionist and these rust issues could cause serious issues with vehicles resulting in crashes.i feel this issue needs to be investigated because it effects crucial systems like the brakes and fuel systems.please feel free to contact me for further information.

The gas gauge module was faulty, causing me to run out of gas at high speed and lose power to steering and brakes. Out of gas even though it read that i had a quarter of a tank. Luckily no accident or damage done. However it cost 650.00 to replace this module.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated while driving approximately 75 mph she heard a clicking noise followed by the illumination of the anti-lock brake and fuel gauge warning lights on the instrument panel. Moments later the vehicle stalled. Upon restart the vehicle operated as normal. The failure recurred approximately twenty times within a two week period. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The contact planned on taking the vehicle to an authorized dealer to have the failure diagnosed. The contact also expressed concern of nhtsa campaign id numbers: 04v045000 (fuel system, gasoline), 04v045000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 07e106000 (wheels: cap/cover/hub, which he believed could have possibly contributed to the failure. The vin was not included in any of the recalls and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.

I bought new a 2004 chevy tahoe.it is kept garaged 99% of its life.about 2 years ago i started smelling gasoline on windless days whenever i would exit the car after any trip.at the time in 2006 i thought it was almost impossible for there to be a gas line that was rusted and i thought that somehow a line must have cracked.i went to my mechanic and had him check it out.he called me the next day and told me that the gasoline right where they exited the fuel tank were badly rusted andthats where the gas was coming from.he brought me into his shop and with the car up in the air, he was able to show me using 2 mirrors because it wasn't possible to see by looking up as to how badly the 3 lines had rusted.at this time the car only had about 12000 miles on it.he explained to me that where the fuel lines came out of the tank that it was shaped like a bowl and that even if i was just washing it, there would still be a fairly large puddle of water there.this car was my pride and joy.i never drove it in wet weather and i never drove it during the winter.i was shocked to see how much gas was coming out and my first thoughts were that one spark with all those fumes and gas and i'd be a dead man.i always kept the gas tank full, it never went below 2/3 of a tank.my mechanic told me that he had repaired 7 or 8 of these on other chevrolet large suv's including a couple other tahoes a couple suburbans and 2 or 3 denali's.he told me that he couldn't remember which but he was aware that these other cars were covered by a recall but that for some reason the tahoe wasn't even though they all had the same gas tank.i should not have put off writing this letter.at any rate it cost me 750.00 to get it repaired and i'm just waiting for it to happen again.this seems very much like a design problem.i have to wonder why the tahoe was not included in any recall as the are all the same.

Top of the fuel pump and those related fuel lines failed leading to a significant fuel leak, and really expensive repair. This truck is ten years old, fuel system parts shouldn't be rusting out like this. No other vehicle i've ever owned, no matter how old, has had an issue like this. Life safety and fire risk!

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that he noticed fluid leaking from the fuel pump. The failure was noticed on two separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was advised to the contact that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired twice for the same failure. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

The entire instrument cluster failed including the speedometer and fuel gauge.

The tahoe used as our volunteer fire department medical truck was spewing fuel from above the gas tank. We dropped the tank and found the lines on the top of the fuel tank rusted severely to the point of failure. It was first noticed on a medical run with the engine idling.

Vehicle registered "reduced engine power" while i was on the highway, i was able to get to the shoulder, online research showed numerous incidents involving the throttle body sensor and the wires crimping, there was something about the wiring harness being covered by gm but it does not appear on a recall list.

Smelled gas coming from the rear passenger side of the car (on exterior) and was informed that the metal ring molded into the plastic tank where the sending unit mounts to the tank had rusted out and gas was accumulating in the "bowl" that the connection is in.rusting is a result of water accumulating in the "bowl" where the unit mounts and not being able to drain out.did some online research and found that a number of tahoe owners have had the same issue.was also informed that chevrolet determined this was an issue and changed the design of the tank in future models to remove the metal ring that the sending unit mounted to.cost to repair at chevrolet and independent garage $2,000 or more.

When i pull the door handle out to open the door it does not go back in.therefore, the door does not latch closed and it flies open while driving down the road.this problem began with the driver's door and is now doing the same thing on the passenger front door (which is rarely used).between the 2 doors, they have flown open three times at different speeds.thank goodness the individuals had their seatbelts on and were not thrown from the vehicle.i visited a chevy dealer at which time the service person oiled thehandle. It did not help nor did it change anythingthis individual stated several times "i do not feel comfortable with this at all" and told me to contact gm for assistance on the repair costs.upon contacting gm customer service and explaining that this is a huge safety issue, i was told they would deny my claim and are unwilling to pay for any repairs to my vehicle because it was out of warranty.i again explained that this defect could in fact kill someone and they did not seem to care.i was told it is my responsibility to pay for the diagnostic and the repairs.the fact that the doors do not latch shut and fly open while the vehicle is moving at any speed is extremely dangerous.i am in the process of looking into getting it repaired via a local mechanic.i do not feel safe in this vehicle and certainly do not feel safe having a passenger with me.i currently hit the handle back in every single time i enter the vehicle.i cannot stress enough how unsafe this is.thankfully there have been no deaths or injuries yet.hopefully no one else that owns a tahoe has experienced any.please help before someone is killed.thank you so much.

I have a 2004 tahoe with less than 50k miles on it.it has never been wrecked, driven sporadically as the mileage will attest, and the rear window glass has been opened less than half dozen times since it was purchased new.one of the hinges has broken/separated from the top of the lift gate glass, making it difficult to close when it is opened.i have taken it to a local chevy dealer that told me it was a 'common' happening on this and suburban models.the 'fix' is a full glass replacement to the tune of around $1000.another option is a third-party fix which 'might' work and involves regluing the hinge to the window.i filed a complaint with chevy and received a call from a rep who disavowed any knowledge of 'any' complaints regarding this issue.however, the service writer at the local dealership, as well as two other dealership employees (different dealers) all knew of the problem and the fix.this is a serious defect and safety issue.it is quite possible that this could cause the glass to break loose and fly off while driving, most likely causing a serious accident.yet chevy refuses to acknowledge the problem.they were no help at all, and though i talked at length to their rep (who couldn't even pronounce tahoe correctly) they refused to offer anyhelp at all with the repair, leaving me with the probability of a $1000 replacement cost of a perfectly good rear glass just to fix a hinge which is obviously a defective design.i have owned more than 20 chevys and it has always been my vehicle of choice, but they need to stand by their product and fix what they know is a problem in their design and through no fault of the owner/driver.

Hi this is regarding a defect in the locking systems of particular gm trucks and suvs the fact that the door locks on my tahoe and other similar suvs and trucks can be punched in with a screwdriver and that simulates a key. That makes these types of vehicles easy targets for robbery (especially the third row seats) which according to the police officer who i filed the report with is happening a lot with these vehicles.i contacted my chevy service rep and he conveyed the same problem and that dealership actually offers an aftermarket bracket for these vehicles to prevent the lock from being punched in at a cost of $189. Here is the problem my truck and the others that fall into this category escalade, tahoe, suburban, etc are expensive vehicles and should not be required to purchase an aftermarket part (usually after are vehicles have been broken into) for a defect in the lock system . I have done some research and every time a third row seat is stolen it is about a $2500 replacement and usually requires a claim through insurance and that leaves them out a lot of money because of this lock defect.i contacted gm and to see what gm intends to do about this situation if anything at allgm responded with a simple cant help you not our problem. I am out about $600 which includes me replacing my door handle without the key entry as i see this being the only way to deter further break-ins and what was stolen from my truck and i know there are many others that are in the same situation.i feel that this is something that gm needs to acknowledge and address the situation as it is costing customers and insurance companies tons of money because gm will not change this door lock. The office said this has been a growing problem as criminals learn how easy it is to break in these vehicles with a screwdriver and our alarm, security devices will not activate and if my local dealership has to offer an aftermarket bracket to try to fix it there is a problem. Please look into it!

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the rear liftgate door would not unlock. The contact first noticed the failure november 2009. The door would open at times and became progressively worse to the point where it would not unlock at all. The contact called the dealership and was informed that they would charge to fee to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000. The current mileage was approximately 120,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the rear passenger door opened on its own. The contact also stated that both rear doors would not lock. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and the mechanic stated that the lock mechanism suffered a malfunction. The manufacturer was notified and made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 77,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

Emergency brake goes to the floor, does not workluckily discovered upon safety inspectionmy understanding is that chevrolet trucks and suv's are all having this problem, isn"t this a safety issue, since i can not pass a safety inspection, how many people have to die.

Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle was parked with the parking brake was engaged and the keys removed from the ignition, the contact opened the front left door to retrieve an object, when it began to roll backwards down the driveway. The vehicle continued over the embankment with the contact and crashed into a tree bring the vehicle to a stop. The contact was ejected from the vehicle prior to hitting the tree. Injuries were incurred to the right elbow. The service dealer and manufacturer were notified. An independent inspector was sent by the manufacturer to investigate. The results of the manufacturer inspector were not shared.

Transmission had to be replaced and i paid for half, gm goodwill paid for half.when you pay over $42,000 for a vehicle it should last more than 50,000 miles!

2004 chevrolet tahoe "reduced engine power". Occurs intermittently and only allows you to go about 25 mph. Very unsafe if on a highway. Gm dealer replaced the faulty wire harness and plug that plugs into the throttle body. Also replaced throttle body itself.

I have a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.at 59,000, a pinion seal leak was discovered.i took it the next day to the chevrolet dealer where i purchased the vehicle new.upon evaluation, it was determined that the leak had resulted in excessive metal friction in the gears, requiring a complete overall.there is no warning system for low differential fluid and leaks are not visible from the ground as any fluid normally blows off while driving.the seal on the rear axle pinion, which provides power to the rear wheels, could leak fluid, causing the wheels to seize and lock.note that gm has recalled many similar models, but not the tahoe at this time.

In 2006, i would have intermittent problems with my 2004 chevrolet tahoe.when trying to accelerate from a stop, the traction active display would light up and the vehicle would lag and not accelerate.i took the vehicle to bernard chevrolet in libertyville, illinois, and they advised me that i should bring it back when the problem occurred regularly.in 2008 the problem began to get bad, and the tahoe would lag when i tried to accelerate from a stop and the traction active light would come on.this happened at least once a day on my four mile commute to work.on two occasions i was almost involved in an accident due to the lagging of the vehicle.i brought the car into libertyville chevrolet (the dealership that replaced bernard chevrolet after they went out of business), and the vehicle was kept over night.they scanned it and found no problem codes and then they installed an updated program and it tested okay.i paid $115.00 and then as i exited the parking lot of the dealership, the tahoe lagged as i tried to accelerate and the traction active light came on.i looked at my odometer and it read 38,746 (came in for service at 38,745), however, when i looked at the receipt i noted that the service department had put the mileage out at 38,748.the vehicle was obviously not test driven after the service, however, they tried to make it appear that it was.kevin p #475 was the technician at libertyville chevrolet.the $115 charge was reimbursed, however, chevrolet has made no offers to fix this dangerous condition on my vehicle.the problem has been the topic of many problem auto chat discussions, and apparently the problem is related to wheel sensors that prematurely corrode on the tahoes and yukons.i have managed the problem by letting of the accelerator when the problem occurs, and this apparently disengaged the malfunctioning traction active mode.this is a dangerous problem that shouldn't occur on a $43,000 vehicle with 38,000 miles.

Transmission needed to be replaced again this was number 5 not thats correct 5 (five) transmissions in this car at 130k miles.

2004 tahoe with wobble in the steering mechanism.customer states the steering mechanism wobbled while on the way to florida. Customer had another incident with the front differential and carrier bearings.the consumer experienced a wobblingin the steering mechanism and the chevrolet dealer corrected the defect in january 07. The consumer stated that he had an inspection performed in may 2007 at thielen motors whichentailed a front differential pinion, carrier bearings, a related drive train elements and metal shavings in the differential unit which means possible defect. The consumer stated would like the defects investigated and reimbursement for the repairs performed on the vehicle.

- the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 25 mph on normal road conditions; the vehicle automatically shifted into four-wheel low gear without assistance.the driver pulled over to the side of the road.the engine was turned off.immediately, the engine was restarted into two-wheel drive.the vehicle was able to resume normal operation.the failure occurred intermittently.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic test.the failure was due to the four- wheel drive switch module and the encoder motor transfer case actuator. Both components were replaced.the vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer on five separate occasions for the identical failures for which there were no resolutions.the vehicle service warranty expired at 36,000 miles.the manufacturer was notified of the malfunctions.the failure mileage was 27,000.the current mileage was 90,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that when shifting to drive or reverse, there was no indicator that displayed what gear the vehicle was activating.often while in reverse, the vehicle would move forward. In addition, the gear shifter would sporadically shift out of reverse. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure. The dealer replaced the gear cluster wiring harness but the failure was not corrected. The gear indicator continued to fail. The approximate failure mileage was 5 and the current mileage 59,897.

I bought my tahoe new in sept. 2004. Two days after purchasing took back to dealer ship with vibration in brake pedal. The dealer ship said they could not fix it that it was an engineering problem and i should know something within 4-6 weeks. Well it is now the end of jan. And i still have not heard what the fix would be and the vibration is getting worse and now you can feel it when the vehicle is sitting still and in park with out your foot on the brake.

2004 tahoe, when starting out engine loses power and readout displays ( traction active ).first time happened fall 2007. Dealer could not find problem but did a download of software, did not help. Over past month does this one or more times daily. Took back to dealer and they said not sure what to do, may have to drive until it will no longer run before they know what to fix. This may turn into a safety issue if it stops and someone hits me from behind.i seen on your complaint section this has been brought up at least once before.

The transmission failed on entering freeway on ramp causing the vehicle to stall while merging with other traffic. Other vehicles swerved, skidded, and honked while i coasted my vehicle to the right shoulder and limped off the freeway.

Transmission does not always downdhift into first gear when coming to a complete stop and downshifts into first hard after acceleration of vehicle speed increases do to second gear not moving vehicle.also, when shifter lever is manually placed in first gear tranmission does not remain in first, will automatically upshift into second gear causing towing conditions to become harder.

2004 tahoe engine revved without transmission engaging***ccthe consumer stated the transmission didn't engage when it was placed in reverse. The consumer believes there is a defect in the transmission. The consumer stated the vehicle shifted into 4-wheel drive on its own on several occasions.updated

Transmission slipped while driving. I took into the dealer to have them do a full checkup and know they are telling me that my warranty is finished but i think my drive train is warranted longer it says nothing in my paperwork but i want to clarify and it seems that this happens alot and it could be a repeat of the lemon law of 1998.

1)events leading up to the failure: during normal city driving, came to a red light and full stop. When it turned green, the brake pedal was released but the vehicle wouldn't move forward.2) the vehicle wouldn't move and as a press the gas pedal, i could hear the engine rev up but not change, the vehicle wouldn't move.3) the transmission finally engaged and the vehicle started moving forward about 3-4 seconds after the initial trial.

While driving 60 mph the vehicle'srpms revved up.the vehicle would not accelerate any higher that 15 mph.the dealer inspected the vehicle then drained then drained the transmission fluid.the dealer indicated that they needed to replace the transmission.they didn't indicate why they were replacing the transmission or what caused the failure.

2004 chevy tahoe transmission problemsthird time back to dealer first time @ 21k miles second time @ 37k miles both times the transmission has been replaced car is beening towed back today june 18 2007 three days after i got the car back from second transmission.

I am starting to feel a clunk in the transmission of my 2004 chevy tahoe z71,the gears wine a little but there is this constant clunking sound.i have met a lot of people and they all have the same problem. I know i am not farfrom having no 1st and 4th gears etc.. I bought the suv used and i took it to the chevy dealer for a bumper to bumper inspection.i do not drive hard.the people i talk to said it is a common part and there is actually a bulletin out on this.chevy will not have it but other transmission shops do.

While stopping at a red light, light turned green i pushed down the accelarator and engine revved, and nothing happened.then suddenly the vehicle will jump into gear.i have also noticed the transmissionquit noisey.dealer say's nothing wrong with transmission????

Gm vehicles trucks and full size suv'swhen key is in, one click forward , able to put into gear without the brake being applied.when key is in and car is running, you cannot get it into gear unless you apply the break3 old child died april 12th, 2004 because of this problem in a 1997 chevy tahoe.i'm making the complaint on my 2004 tahoe

I own a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.i have found that when the key is in the accessory position, you are not required to use the brake to shift out of park.my 18-month old son discovered this while we were cleaning out the truck and it started to roll down the driveway.i contacted the dealer to see if there was a recall or fix and found that there was not.i found out that this is actually how all tahoes since 2003 are programmed to work.this behavior is not consistant with the other key positions and i feel is a saftey hazzard.luckily no one was injured in the discovery of this.i would like to see someone follow up with gm to get this resolved before there are injuries or deaths.i would also like to see some follow up with me as to the outcome of this complaint.

Abs light came on along with a loud hum and rattling from fronttire area.had to get the hub assembly replace.this happened around 90,000 miles with the front passenger side tire, and around 130,000 miles with the front driver side tire.both mechanics i brought it to said this was a common problem for my type of vehicle.they also mentioned that when this occurs the entire wheel could fall off and result in a major accident if traveling at high speeds.

Front differential leaks, fixed 2 times before dealership realized there was a bearing not installed from the factory. Factory rep was called, he directed dealer to install bearing. When the vehicle is in 4 wheel drive there is a uncommon front end vibration still to this date.

Dt:the contactreceivednhtsarecall 05v163000.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and the repair work was performed.this has left a loop on the seat belt, and the contact'ssmall children are putting there hands through it.their hands get stuck, and the pulling to get their hand out caused rug burn.she contacted general motors, and they offered to cut the loop and leave the extra material in the vehicle.the contact wanted the loop to be removed completely.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact observed that the third row seat made an abnormal sound without warning. In addition, the contact stated that the latches that lock the seat were fractured and caused the seat to move independently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the latches were fractured, and that the right and left in-hand latches needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.

The rear seat release cable is faulty and i was unable to get out of the back compartment (after the door hatch was closed).this is hazardous because the third row seating area is back there, and without a means of easy release a passenger might be trapped in an emergency.

2004 chevrolet tahoe z71.69k miles.driver's power seat and both front seat heaters failed simultaneously.found burned orange wire in connector at rear of driver's seat burned and connector melted at orange wire location.also saw area on orange wire that appeared to be a location where wire was pinched by seat adjuster mechanism.repair of wire and relocation of harness away from seat mechanical parts cured the problem.

The seat heater on the driver's seat gets too hot, my brother was badly burned on a road trip very quickly, instant huge blister, he couldn't adjust the heat being unfamiliar with my tahoe and there was no where topull over safely.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While driving 10 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to immediately stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred in a parking lot and the vehicle was able to stop after the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake lines failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While driving, the brakes failed. The contact's vehicle came to a stop after bumping the preceding vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake line was corroded. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 73,000.

Brake line blew without warning. Approaching stop signal and was slowing down by braking and then suddenly the brake pedal went to the floor. I swerved into left turning lane to avoid the car in front of me and traveled halfway through the busy intersection before stopping. Proceeded into lot of nearby convenience. Brake fluid pooled under car. Could hear air coming out of brake line when brake pedal depressed.

Brake lines are all rusted out got into accident

Driving down the road around 25 to 30 mph and a kid ran out between two cars and i slammed on the brakes and they partially failed. The truck eventually stopped, but immediately got a brake failure warning and i had to hold the peddle to the wall to stop the remaining mile or so home. I get home and look under the drivers door to investigate a puddle and i see smoke where the ruptured brake line had been spraying brake fluid on the catalytic converter.thought for sure the truck was going to catch on fire.the brakes were just serviced, pads and rotors a year or so ago, so i had no clue the lines were bad. Just got home to search on this and see that the nhtsa has been investigating this, but not much has happened with this since 2014.very distressing. Seems the only thing that has been done is gm is offering the replacement lines for sale, but no mention that the dealers want $2,000 or more to install them??i am very thankful that this kid is still alive and we both did not have to endure a death due to the close call.however, i'm extremely disturbed that this is a known issue with millions of these trucks on the road and nothing is being done with this ticking time bomb. Every single such affected truck will eventually run into the same issue, and people are going to get killed.gm is clearly not addressing this or even warning people of the hidden problem. Why won't you guys do anything about this big problem? you've know about this for 4 years and nothings been done?i'm shocked, that gm has been able to avoid all responsibility due to a mfrs defect by using cheap and inferior products that do not hold up in the northern climates. Coated brake lines should be mandated!!!just came back from the next page to qualify:no crash - by about 1 foot.no fire - very lucky. No injury/fatality -this very close!i would like a call back.

While driving on the highway, i suddenly and without warning lost my rear brakes. This caused me to have to steer on to the shoulder to and use the emergency brake/down shifting to control vehicle speed. I narrowly avoided 3 other vehicles. This failure was due to excessive corrosion on the steel brake line running to the rear of the vehicle. Even after frequently inspecting my brake lines, the routing of this line in particular makes it impossible to view. I'm very disappointed that this issue, which is widely known, has not been recalled.

Brake line rupture causing complete brake failure. I was switching the cars around in my single wide drive way when the brakes failed on my vehicle. Pulling the vehicle back into the driveway from being stopped on the road so i barely accelerated and fortunately had very little speed when the brakes failed, the pedal going all the way to the floor, while failing to slow/stop the vehicle. I was able to stop by putting the transmission in park, no harm done though not a gentle stop. Identifying the problem was not difficult as the brake line hissed loudly where it ruptured when pressure was applied to the brake pedal. A great deal of corrosion was present on all of the lines as well as the fuel lines.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brakes failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. The brake service indicator illuminated. The contact discovered that the rear driver side brake line was corroded and leaking brake fluid. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

As i applied my brakes to stop for traffic in front of me my brakes failed causing me to hit the vehicle in front of me.there had been no warning that the brake system had an issue but upon inspection of the brake lines that come out of the master cylinder it appears that one of these stainless steel lines has failed.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While driving approximately 40 mph and attempting to make a sudden stop, the braking system experienced a catastrophic and instant failure without warning. The vehicle did not slow down or stop, which caused the driver to crash into an embankment. A police report was filed. During the crash, the driver sustained a right knee injury that did not require medical attention. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the cause of the failure was due to corrosion and rusted brake lines. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 160,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while traveling at an unknown speed, the brakes failed and went to the floorboard abnormally. The contact had to pump the brake pedal to get the vehicle to stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 04v045000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000.

I was launching my boat on a boat ramp to a lake.when backing up to the water i pressed my brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor. I was able to put the truck in the forward gear to get out of the water. The break line was leaking.i looked under the vehicle and all the lines where rusted out.i was told that the brake line had failed because it was rusted out.this is extremely dangerous. There should be some type of warning to other tahoe owners and a recall.

I bought a 2004 chevy tahoe august 2013- i maybe drove it twice a week for maybe 3 weeks.do to the screw up with the dealership and insurance company i was canceled in september up until october 22 the truck sat in my drive way. Finally was able to drive it.drove it one day, i was driving back after filling my tank. I'm coming up to a red light with a motorcycle in front of me. I began applying the brakes and i'm approaching the motorcycle in front of me. When i try to apply the brakes, i'm pushing them all the way to the floor and i'm not stopping. I know at this point i don't have brakes. I swerve to avoid rear ending the motorcycle. I almost hit on coming cars. Then i'm able to apply what was left of the brakes to get the car to stop. When i put the tahoe it to park that's when the brake light comes on. I get out and i see nothing but brake fluid pouring out of the front driver side. I look underneath the truck(suv) and the entire brake lines where rotted and the entire underneath the truck was rusted.

Lost brakes on highway. Got in accident. Now all brake lines have to be replaced. Never going to buy another gm piece of [xxx].and only has73,000 miles on it.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I was traveling towards home around 45 mph in my 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The car in front of me attempted a non-signaled right hand turn and then continued straight ahead. I applied my brakes in a manner to avoid hitting the car as she decided what she was going do. The pedal was firm at first, then completely went to the floor. I had no brakes at all. This resulted in me taking an off road adventure through someones yard and back onto the road to avoid slamming the car in front me as she regained her sense again. I slowly crept home and spit a trail of brake fluid along the way. The hard brake lines on this vehicle are so corroded with rust and i foundthe front feed line into the abs module had burst from the corrosion and use of cheap factory lines. I could have lost my life because 11 years ago gm decided cheaper brake line material in 2004 is better than my life in 2015. Now i find that the investigation is closed and they are blaming "maintenance" as the cause. In all the vehicles i have owned, not a single one had to have a hard brake line replaced. It's just not normal wear and tear.it is a material and producer flaw that is going to get someone killed. It almost took my life.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated while driving 25 mph the brakes were applied and she heard a fluttering noise. In addition, the vehicle would pull to the right. The contact had the brakes replaced. The vehicle was taken to a personal mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was told the wheel sensor needed to be replaced. The wheel sensor was replaced. The mechanic disconnected the abs and the fluttering ceased. Afterward when the contact applied the brakes the steering would become tight but only when turning to the left. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 136,000.

Was at chevy dealer to look for a new car, when leaving put foot on brake and pedel went to the floor got out and found fluid on ground under driver side. Dealer examined and found blown brake line, and said all lines were in bad shape and need to replace at a cost of $4200. Had them replace only ones that were leaking. This is very dangerous and i have heard lots of problems from other people. Chevy should be correcting these issues.

Abs light came on. While braking to enter an on-ramp, steering wheel jerked and passenger side front wheel almost broke off.

Service brake system light came on while driving 25-30 mph checked for possible recalls and found (recall 04004) contact gm directly which stated that my vehicle was not included in this recall and refered to safcar.gov to file the incident gm stated that recalls are based on information from this website and not directly from the manufacturer.

Rear brake lines (hard lines) ruptured above rear axle.1000 miles later both brake hard lines from master cylinder to proportioning valve also failed due to internal corrosion.

My mechanic informed me today that my brake lines were very corroded and in danger of a catastrophic failure.

I was leaving work and i was coming to a junction, applied my brakes and nothing happened, i was slowly going into the middle of the road and a car was coming towards me, i had to accelerate to get in front of him, to avoid him hitting me.i got to the main junction which is on a hill and i pressed very hard on the brakes and it finally stopped.i drove 2 miles an hour for about 100 ft and turned into a gas station.i called a tow truck andwhile waiting fluid was leaking from the front of the car.the tow truck man got under the car and said all my brake lines were rusted and leaking.i was lucky there was not a lot oftraffic on the road.why are the brake lines rusted.is there a recall on these brake lines.

Brake line burstwhile driving got into accident very dangerous should be recall before some get killed

Brake lines are rusted and leaking. Completely rusted from front to back... I am the original owner.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the brake pedal dropped to the floor board after being engaged. The contact was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnose that the brake lines were corroded and needed to be replaced. There was an investigation nhtsa action number: ea11001 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings) that may be related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Travelling north on state route 741 with my family of 6. We began to slow for stopped traffic on a slight downhill grade. At once the brake pedal went to floor without warning and when i applied emergency brake the bracket fastening it to the frame broke as well. The truck was gaining speed without any brakes at all. I put it into a ditch doing 60 mph. It took me 1.5 miles to finally get the truck stopped. Took it to a garage they replace all brake lines two rear calipers, master cyclinder, and hydro boost canister. How do all these parts fail at the exact same time and the emergency brake bracket break away from frame trying to stop vehicle? apparently the size of the vehicle is to much for the emergency brake system to effectively stop this vehicle. I am told by a dealer this is a frequent issue with gm vehicle. I am very mad about this incident and putting my family at risk. This vehicle was at chevrolet dealer in bellefontaine ohio 11 months ago for a full inspection and nothing was found except an inner tie rod that needed replaced. How??? withouot prior warning can all these components in a brakeing system fail at the exact same time. There was zero evidence of tampering and truck mileage is below national average. Maintenance has been kept up to date. Seriously concerned owner!

On 11-11-15 i was sitting at an atm with my foot on the brake pedal. Without warning the brake pedal went completely to the floor. Limped to our mechanic. The mechanic advised that the front brake lines were completely rusted. Replaced the front brake lines at a cost of $580.on 5-28-17 my husband had pulled into a convenience store and was letting my son out of the vehicle, had his foot on the brake and yet again, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Got the vehicle home, checked the brake fluid reservoir and only 2" of fluid was left, checked brake lines and found rusted out places with fluid leaking out. Got the vehicle to our mechanic, same one that replaced the front lines, he advised the same problem, rusted out lines. Estimate to replace rear lines $540. He also told me that this was a "flaw" with that year tahoe and pick up trucks. My question is if the manufacturer knows this is a flaw with the brake lines why isn't there a recall to have the brake lines replaced??? it appears to be a major problem, no brakes is not a good situation!!!!!!!something need to be done with this problem.

Trying to come to a complete stop coming down a hill approaching stopped vehicles aheadwhen the the brake system failed the pedal went to the floor i fortunately was able stop before hitting anything or anyone including myself and my pets....used emergency break and put in park conducted investigation..1st checked the brake fluid andeven though it was just topped off it was down to the minimum levels i next looked under the undercarriage and saw fluid leaking underneath.since have had it looked at by a mechanic and said my breakline blew and possibly the others because of corrosion.

This is in reference to complaint # 11327456the address and the mph are incorrect. Please see form attached to this complaint #affected parts: steering, brakes, electrical, elec, stability control and speed controlthis site wouldn't let me check more than 3.

A car cut in front of me and i had to slam the brakes, when i did the pedal went straight to the floor. I was able to swerve into another lane and avoid the car in front of me but after pulling over i observed brake fluid gushing outa rusted out brake line when the pedal was pushed. Very unsafe. I live in charleston south carolina and this type of corrosion on the brake lines is totally unsafe.

Applied brakes after another driver cut me off and the brakes failed. Check brake system appeared in the odometer along with the abs light.

Driving about 20 mph applied brakes suddenly... Next time applied brake ,brake pedal went to floor was able to stop but barely... And almost hit the car in front of me...brakes lines rusted out ....this is a known gm problem....please someone help.... Someone could have been killed.....

Returning home from trip.as i pulled into driveway brakes failed.took it to shop and was told all brake lines were badly coroded and needed to be replaced.

It sat on the side of the driveway for about three months, then when i backed it out of the driveway, i lost all of my brakes.i ran into a tree with the rear bumper. There was just a small dent in the rear quarter panel.i had to have three brake lines replaced.

Wife was driving with son in car went to hit the brakes doing about 40 mph and brake pedal went to the floor. Luckily she had room to swerve out of the way of the stopped car while continuing to pump brakes coming to a stop in the middle of a busy intersection. Thank god no harm was done to her or my child. 2 brake lines has been ruptured on the driver side of vehicle and was spewing brake fluid everywhere. All of the lines connected to the abs pump were severely corroded and all have to be replaced.

My brake lines burst and began leaking brake fluid as i put my car in gear and began backing out of my driveway.i crawled under the car and the lines looked corroded.i live in delaware and purchased the car in northern new jersey.

As i was pulling into the drive-thru at my local bank i pushed on my brake pedal to stop at the window & the pedal went completely to the floor. There was someone at the atm & i immediately pushed the emergency brake to stop before i ran over them. Took it to a local shop & they told me before they put it on the lift what was probably wrong with it. Rusted brake line(s). I said surely not on a 10 year old vehicle. They said oh yeah we see this all the time. It's a major problem for these vehicles. I have a lot older vehicles at home that doesn't have this problem. Sounds to me like inferior materials. Something should be done about this before someone loses their life to save a buck for the company.

Brakes not working when pressed caused an accident

On september 3 2016 while pulling into a bank parking lot the brake pedal depressed to the floor.fortunately i was going slow enough to stop the vehicle with the parking brake.brake fluid was on the ground behind the left front wheel.it appears a brake line ruptured causing instant catastrophic failure of the brake system.the vehicle was towed to jim price chevrolet in charlottesville for diagnosis.total mileage is about 213000.being a holiday weekend the vehicle will not be checked until tuesday september 6.if i hadn't pulled into the bank i would have been in an 8 lane intersection with rio rd and rt 29 and probable not here to send this report.

While away from home and towing my boat i started to lose braking power and was barely able to stop.the amount of rust on the lines and poor quality of the components and the way they route them they should be ashamed.i count myself lucky that neither i or anyone else was injured.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed. Also, "stability system disabled- service brake system" flashed on the instrument panel. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal to maneuver the vehicle out of a drive-thru area of a business establishment. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was parked at the contact's residence due to the failure. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v045000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

Lost brakes pedal went to floor.brake lines rusted out. Had vehicle towed to dealership for repair. Stainless steel brake lines and fuel lines should never rust !!! general motors is liable for this problem and should make repair immediately.

Brake pedal completely depressedand all brake fluid spilled out on driveway. I looked under vehicle and all brake line were visible highly corroded. I've been maintaining vehicles for 50 years and have never seen a failure like this. The brake lines had the appearance of cars 30 years old but were heavily pitted and corroded. I don't want to hear a gm excuse of road salt wear and tear ! this is inexcusable!

Rusted brake lines failed.lost brakes at highway speed.

Tried to stop, brake pedal went to floor. Brake lines at the frame under driver's side rusted through. Truck had to be towed, and all brake lines replaced.

Lost brakes..brake line rotted out.got into accident.no help from gm

Came out of the my driveway and noticed i had to put my foot to the floor to stop the vehicle.i left a trail of brake fluid down the street.was told by independent mechanic that the brake lines had rusted and completelydeteriorated.this is an incredibly dangerous safety issue.i can't imagine what would have happened if i had been driving on the highway at 65 mph and had to stop with my family in the car.i expect to pay some $600 to replace the brake line which should certainly last for the life of the vehicle.this is a major safety issue and should warrant a recall/reimbursement for owners.i have to have this fixed, and can't wait for a recall -- the vehicle cannot be driven in anything approaching a safe manner.

While braking hard for stopped vehicles on interstate highway my 2004 tahoe brakes failed. It was later determined that my rear crossover brake line had rusted through.

Complete brake failure pedal straight to the floor main brake line midway of the truck completely blew apart my son just drove 2 hours pulled in the driveway i went to move his car thank goodness put the brake pedal to the floor and fluid was everywhere i have read that this problem is a 1 + 1,000 on chevy trucks however i have purchased a chevy 2005 tahoe 1 year difference and this weekend the same exact thing happened traveling back from a weekend away and complete brake line failure brake line completely busted halfway down and fluid everywhere so i guess i am too in 2000 seems a little coincidental i am in ohio and i have read about the salt brine and everything however i have one of the cleanest trucks around we are detail freaks every one of our cars is taken care of something is definitely wrong with these years of tahoes and it's going to kill somebody once again we were on a two-hour trip home stop to use the bathroom the next time we hit the brakes they were totally gone had to use emergency brake to stop and pull over we feel the divine intervention on both incidences and are blessed that someone was looking out for us and it sure wasn't chevy

Driving vehicle on local street at approximately 15mph when i attempted to stop at stop sign.brake pedal went totally to the floor and lost all brakes.unable to stop i narrowly missed another vehicle which was already in the intersection.car finally came to a stop against curb on other side of intersection.upon inspection i found that both rear brake lines had completely blown underneath drivers door.they were completely rusted through causing them to fail. When i got home i did a simple google search of this issue and found quite a few stories devoted to this problem.i don't understand how there isn't a recall on this issue.imagine if i was going faster than 15 mph if this event had occurred.i also have contacted gm about this problem through email.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph and depressing the brakes, the brakes would not respond. The contact continued to depress the brake pedal until the brakes became responsive. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. Where the technician advised that the brake hydro boost exhibited a leak and would require replacement. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 04v045000 (service brakes, hydraulic) but was advised by the manufacturer that the failure and stated the vin was not included. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.

Got into parked truck and the brake pedal went to the floor.can not even stop truck at idle speed.brake line leak between proportioning valve and abs module near bend above frame.can't even take it in for repair without towing it.rear brake lines in bad shape, but not leaking yet.

2004 chevy tahoe, z71.all brake and fuel lines are severely corroded.appear to be seeping fluid.

Brake line rusted. Lost fluid and brakes while driving. Have been driving for 53 years. Never had this happen with any other vehicle.

While coming to a slow stop of 5 to 10mph, the abs kicks in.affected part is the front bearing and abs sensor, caused by rust build up in the unit.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the brake pedal would depress to the floor whenever the brakes were engaged and it would take repeated heavy pressure to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. An authorized dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 04v045000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.a local mechanic stated that the valve o-ring seal fractured.the steering was slightly affected while braking or parking.the vehicle became more difficult to stop and took longer to decelerate than prior to the seal fracture.the failure and current mileages were 88,000.updated 4/21/08 updated 04/21/08

2004 chevy tahoe power steering failure and simultaneous loss of power brakes! it could have been a disaster if i had been going fast or in heavy traffic!

2004 chevrolet tahoe. Consumer states problem with vehicle brakes. *tgwthe consumer stated his daughter was driving the vehicle. His daughter had difficulty stopping the vehicle.when she arrived home, he decided to test drive the vehicle, and soon discovered the brake pedal went down to the floor and he could barely stop the vehicle. The consumer had to add nearly 16 ounces of brake fluid. The consumer took the vehicle to his mechanic, where it was determined the brake lines were rusted and one line was leaking badly. The repair cost, the consumer $1,346.62.

Vehicle (2004 chevrolet z71 4x4) pulls consistently to the right upon firm brake application (such as from a 65 mph coasting condition).at the same time, the vehicle's rear end swings out to the left making for a very unstable situation.when you let off of the brake pedal the vehicle darts to the left due, i assume, to the left-input on the steering wheel that you've had to sustain to keep the truck in its lane.i drove several loaners from the selling dealer that, to my surprise, all did the exact same thing.several dealership service department management individuals confirmed that their z71 were also afflicted. The brake technician at the dealership stated that he found my vehicle "dangerous" and that he would not put his family in it.dealership service personnel stated that they had contacted chevrolet technical assistance and were told that chevrolet was aware of the condition, as they had attempted to cure it in a vehicle they had at the detroit-area manufacturing facility, but were unable.therefore, since all of these vehicles pull to the right when braking, it must be "normal."no fix to be had.i strongly disagree with the conclusion that it is normal, and have driven in excess of several thousand vehicles as my basis for disagreement.i am at a loss to explain why this condition has not caught the attention of nhtsa, and is not the source of massive complaint by the general public.anyone else who experiences this condition, please chime in and let your voice be heard.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the contact noticed brake fluid leaking from the vehicle abnormally. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the two bottom brake lines were worn and had split simultaneously. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000. Updated 06/17/11*ljupdated 2/03/2012 *ln

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact statedwhile driving 35 mph the vehicle stalled with out any warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the hydraulic brake system was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 120,000.

My anti-lock brakes are activating at low speeds when there is no apparent reason for them to be doing so.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that when applying the brakes at low speeds, the anti lock braking system would engage and the vehicle would experience an increased stopping distance. An independent mechanic replaced the rotors and brakes, but the failure continued. The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer where they were in the process of diagnosing the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

35 40 mph crash into stopped vehicle, have anti-lock brakes, they locked up skidded into another vehicle. Vehicles has 3000 miles (new). Sat on dealer lot for a year. Bought less than month. Driving for 35 years, no accidents

At 36,000 miles speedometer failed and read wrong speed and then locked at 140 mph. T 40,000 miles the right front wheel speed sensor failed and the braking was reduced.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the power steering shaft and the brakeswerenot operating normally.thebrake calipers, rotors, pads and brake lines were repaired, due to the passenger front brake smoking with a lift flame.the failure mileage was 20,000.the contact stated that due to the year of the vehicle the failures should not have occurred. The current mileage is 26,000.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle made a rubbing noise when the brake was applied.an independent mechanic determinedall four rotors were so worn they could not be turned and would have to be replaced.the vehicle had 40,000 miles on it.

While driving at high speeds studs broke from the brake drum and wheel came off.

I had to hit the brakes hard to avoid a person that ran a stop sign.i drove off, down a hill and upon reaching the stop sign at the bottom of the hill, i applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor.i had very limited braking and stopped 3/4 of the way into the intersection. Thank goodness there wasn't any cross traffic.i had the car towed to my local chevy dealer and was told that one of the metal lines had ruptured and that all the lines would have to be replaced.dealer wants $2,800.00 to replace these bio-degradable brake lines.one would wonder why the muffler is still original and in good shape, but the brake lines corroded to the point of catastrophic failure.dealer is not willing to assist in the cost due to the age of the vehicle.the investigation that is on-going needs to include more model years than what is being investigated.it may then shed light on how wide spread this problem really is.i am under the understanding that metal brake lines should last a lot longer then a muffler.gm is taking the stance that the problem only occurs in "salt states".if i am not mistaken, don't they sell these vehicles in "salt states?"there needs to be a recall, before someone gets killed. This is serious.updated 09/24/14.

When braking/acclerating there would be vibration in the pedal linkages.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

Loss of most steering and service brakes simultaneously. Steering fluid loss due to improperly installed steering fluid hose clamp. An assemly clip was left on the hose clamp at the factory which prevented hose clamp from tightening. The simultaneous loss of most steering and braking would have caused serios accident if event had occured on mountainous road or if vehicle was operated by person with less strength. Chevrolet tahoe. Swerved to miss a dog at 35 mph and lost control. Car very unstable. The faster the speed , the harder it is to control. You have to be on the steering every second. If it is windy out, it will slide over to another lane without notice. Car very top heavy. Reported this to dealer in medford, oregon and they said that is was normal. Normal to lose control so easily?? purchased new and only had 4,800 miles on it and sold it that day. I am a very good driver, no tickets or accidents and driving over 45 years. If my wife had been driving or a car had been coming the other way, someone would have been killed. If this had happened at 60 to 70 mph, a certain roll over would have happened. Car very unsafe.

Hub bearing l/f noisehave taking to shop wheel falling off.450.to fix.good thing i could have got into a accident or killed someone or myself.

2004 chevy tahoe power steering failure and simultaneous loss of power brakes! it could have been a disaster if i had been going fast or in heavy traffic!

Just bought a used 2004 chevy tahoe z71 and my wife noticed as she was turning a bumping feel coming from the steering wheel. I investigated this and found out this is a very common problem in a number of gm vehicles not just this year tahoe. There is something to do with the steering shaft. There are over 160 posts in one forum with gm owners complaining of the same incident. I will give a link if needed. Seems there is no fix for this other than gm adding lubricant to the axle, but it continues to happen again and again. I now need to get mine fix and it just seems that something should be done on a broad scale to fix this issue from occurring.

I have a 2004 chevy tahoe that has 98000 mile, im 2nd owner. The steering intermediate shaft was making a clunking and knocking noise, which come to find out has been a known problem with general motors. I contacted my local dealer and they told me that there is a new gm rep and she will not allow anymore good faith repairs. I am so disappointed in gm for letting something like this happen. They preach that they have the best vehicles. What bothers me the most is that they were replacing the intermediate steering shafts for a while, because they knewthere was a problem, now all of a sudden they wont! that's bull !@#$. I will do everything in my power to get reimbursed. 182.00 is not alot to gm but it is alot to me. Can someone please help me in what i should do.

Loss of right turn steering assist at idle speeds (e.g. While parking).this issue is widely reported throughout the internet.we lent a ton of money to gm and they need to be called to the carpet to remedy these issues promptly.please have barack call me.

The steering wheel had a bumping feel in it when turning left. After having the steering column lubricated the bumping feel returned.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the contact noticed that whenever the vehicle was idling, the steering wheel would not turn to the left.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the steering gear needed to be replaced.the current and failure mileages were 54,000.

This is in reference to complaint # 11327456the address and the mph are incorrect. Please see form attached to this complaint #affected parts: steering, brakes, electrical, elec, stability control and speed controlthis site wouldn't let me check more than 3.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the contact experienced steering failure in his vehicle.while driving 30 mph, the steering wheel felt as if it would come off due to constant vibrating.the failure seemed to worsen when making turns.the failure would not occur at high speeds.the mechanic stated that the failure was due to the intermediate steering shaft.the dealer acknowledged the failure, but stated that there was no recall.the contact was informed that if the vehicle is repaired, the failure would increasingly worsen.he paid $216 for the repair.the current mileage was 57,237 and failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

Clunking sound in the steering especially in a parking situation when you have to turn the wheel hard.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the contact has experienced several failures with the steering shaft in her vehicle.while driving at any speed, the steering shaft fails and causes her to lose control of the steering.the vehicle will continue to drive forward and makes a loud humming noise.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the intermediate steering shaft failed.the vehicle was repaired at no charge.the vehicle failed two more times since the repair.the intermediate steering shaft has been replaced a total of three times.the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that because there was no current recall on the failure, no compensation would be provided.the failure mileage was 12,000 and current mileage was 80,000. 4/01/09 *njthe consumer stated she is still experiencing excessive play in the steering wheel, noise and uncontolled motion in the tires.updated 04/07/09.

There has been a knocking sound coming from the intermediate steering shaft from my 2004 tahoe. The sound has been happening for over a year like when i make a sharp turn parking etc. I know of this happening to a few of my friends chevy trucks from 02-06. Odd that it hasn't been fixed yet.

Steering wheel makes rattling or vibration noise all the time it doesn't matter what speed i am traveling at. Vehicle feels almost out of control. Constantly have to move the wheel to keep it on the road. No other issues other than standard wear and tear but this issue alone makes me want to junk the vehicle as i sure don't want anyone else driving it and feeling as insecure as i do.

Dealer informs me of problem with steering column.requires over $100 to fix.service rep indicates that this problem occurs numerous time per month in their shop. I have friends with like vehicles that say that this problem has occurred with their vehicles. I postponed service this time as i was told that even with lubricant "fix" to expect repeated and continual repetitions of this problem.i am also waiting for a recall to be issued for this problem as i understand it is so prevalent.

Steering column making knocking noise and needs to be lubed frequently. Speedometer not working properly.

A knockingnoise was coming from the front, and the vehicle started vibrating uncontrollably. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over.the noise continued while driving, and consumer drovethe vehicle to the dealer. Mechanic informed the driver that this problemoccurred more than once with the make/model, and year of the vehicle.a solution was to pack the steering shaft with grease. Dealeracknowledgedtheproblem, but there was no currentsolution.

Consumer complainedabout steering assembly problem. Consumer tookvehicle to the dealer, and dealer was not able to duplicate the problem.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While driving approximately 10 mph and approaching a stop sign, the contact noticed that front driver side tire was flat. The vehicle was driven to the side of the road. The contact stated that the spare tire mount would not unlock and release the tire. The vehicle was towed to the residence where the contact purposely had to fracture a mechanism in order to detach the spare tire from the cable. The vin was unavailable.the failure mileage was approximately 81,000.

At freeway speeds the vehicle feels like it is not solidly fastened to the frame. *mr *sc

Consumer receives a shock of static electricity when exiting 2004 chevrolet tahoe.*mrneither the dealer nor manufacturer were able to provide the consumer with a satisfactory solution.the dealer suggested the consumer purchase rubber floor mats and static guard spary.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the rear liftgate hinge separated from the vehicle while the contact was driving. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 196,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the rear hatch door failed to open from the interior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and the current mileages were 108,000.

Hinge on rear liftgate window separated from the window and prevented window from latching. (the hinge failure cocked the window and made it crooked on the liftgate.) this window has only been opened maybe 2 - 3 dozen times total in 7 years. If i hadn't been focused, i might have driven off and window might have blown off the vehicle as most of my driving is on highways. If someone else had been driving it and not noticed the imperfect way the window closed (which would be probable), the window most assuredly would have blown off due to wind turbulence.

The hinge that holds the rear lift gate window onto the vehicle has broken/separated from the glass due to stress or improper installation.the window is in tact, but the window part of the lift gate cannot be opened and closed properly and when closed, it is not seated in the proper position.this part of the lift gate has probably been used about 5 times in the life of the truck which now has about 53,000 miles on it.i have reported the problem to chevrolet which denies any knowledge of this happening to other vehicles.i am concerned about the possibility of the window breaking loose entirely during the time the vehicle is being driven.chevrolet's only option is to 'try' to glue the part back onto the window or replace the window entirely at my cost of nearly $1000.this is not acceptable and in my opinion, is a serious accident waiting to happen.i believe it needs to be addressed as a safety issue and a recall issued to have this taken care of.

Leaving to go on vacation and putting things in the rear of car when we noticed that the hinge on the right side of the liftgate was broken. We managed to secure the window and had to go anyway. Never opened the rear again until leaving to come home from vacation and noticed that the other side has broken off . We managed to secure the window and drove home very cautiously praying that the window would stay in place. Checked to see if there was a recall on this, but to no avail. , but i did see where this has been a constant problem .

While driving 60 mph consumer heard a loud noise. The tailgate window fell inward and crashed on the floor.

Dt*: the contact stated while waiting to make a turn, the rear hatch window fractured without warning.a police report was taken.the insurance company determined the problem was with the hinge and replaced the rear window.the dealer was not contacted.

Abs light came on. While braking to enter an on-ramp, steering wheel jerked and passenger side front wheel almost broke off.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.ever since the time of purchase, the contact has heard a knocking noise coming from the front end of his vehicle.the noise intensifies when making right turns and in rainy conditions.the vehicle has been taken to the dealer more than once.the mechanic test drove the vehicle andstated that he did not hear the noise or feel anything when turning.the dealer kept the vehicle for at least three days before claiming to have repaired the failure.the failure mileage was 71,000.

While coming to a slow stop of 5 to 10mph, the abs kicks in.affected part is the front bearing and abs sensor, caused by rust build up in the unit.

The speedometer on my 2004 chevrolet tahoe is not working. When im sitting still it is reading 75 miles per hour. My rpm gage stopped working about 2 weeks ago and now its moved to the speedometer.

My2004 chevy tahoe lt was moving when the rear view mirror fell off the windshield.also the exhaust manifold bolts have broken off which cause bad gas mileage and slow take offs.

Dt: the speedometer will not register correctly. This has not worked for a week. Took it to the dealer and the dealer said it is not covered on warranty. Called gm and they said the it was not covered on warranty and the dealer would have a fee. Have not tried to fix the problem because of he feels the vehicle has a safety defect and gm won't cover it.

While running the ac while driving or stopped, the ac temperature would automatically switch to warm air. This is with the ac button push on with the unit working properly. If you shut the car off and back on again it would reset and work again. But shorty after it would do it again and again

Dt*: the contact stated while starting the vehicle it lurches forward six inches to one foot. This only occurs while the vehicle is parked. The dealer determined this was a common problem with this year, make, and mode,l but did not offer a remedy.

2004 chevrolet tahoe, speedometer registered incorrect speed and slowly stopped working.i called the chevrolet dealer, and they knew exactly what was wrong, and told me it would cost $500.00 to fix it.i asked them about recalls since my brother had the same vehicle and itwas doing the same thing.they told me there were no recalls.after several weeks i decided to go ahead and have the repair done.i had it fixed last week and was charged $500.00.

After coming off cruise control at 55 mph and proceeding through town, i hit the resume button to once again increase speed from 45 mph to 55 mph but while on a road with a slight incline (less than 5% grade.)after pressing and quickly releasing the resume button as i normally do, the cruise control accelerated unintentionally and proceeded to increase speed to over 101 mph before i disengaged it.this has happened at least 3 times on this vehicle and in the past i always would disengage it immediately but seeing as how i was on an open road i figured i would see if it would disengage itself.when i felt i was going way too fast to talk a policeman out of a ticket and actually didn't feel safe any longer i disengaged the cruise control after figuring that it wasn't going to disengage itself until the speed limiter was reached.this vehicle has 54000 miles on it and the only thing that has been done on it was the dash was replaced under a recall when the speedometer went to malfunctioning.i have called gm and reported this but they have indicated they have never heard of this problem in the past.i use the cruise control in probably about 80% of my driving and this has happened on 3 occasions (all with my family in the car) and on longer trips (after driving for more than 1 hour) in excess of 75 miles.

I have a 2004 chevrolet tahoe z71.i have about 89,000 miles. My speedometer started acting erratic about 3 weeks ago.working sometimes and not sometimes.sometimes it would look like it was sticking in the way it would rise in speed.now it has stopped working all together.i bought this car used about 9 months ago.when i bought it, it already had over 70k miles on it.i have read on different forums and blogs that gm has sent a letter offering to fix or reimburse, but only if under 70k miles.how can gm put a cap on something like this?

Whenever i try to accelerate the car does not respond.this is a safety issue, for example when i try to merge on to the freeway.chevy stated that the car is performing as it should.i have driven other identical cars, that do not have the same problem.but they refuse to fix the safety issue.ui.

Speedometer is not functioning correctly in my 2004 chevy tahoe.

2004 chevy tahoe speedometer is defective and reads inaccurately by at least 15 to 20 mph.doesnot return to zero when stop, even after vehicle power is turned off. Begins working again and will soon thereafter malfunction as just described.this is inaccurately calculating mileage, and, when i spoke with service personnel at huffines chevrolet, q chevrolet and classic chevrolet (all in the dallas/fort worth area), all acknowledged this as a known problem that gm will not fix after 80k miles.although i'm inundated with junk email from gm, they never, ever provided me with any indication that this was an issue. National highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) should never, never allow this to occur.please insist that gm provide full replacement, including all parts and labor, for such a serious and known safety defect.

I have a 2004 chevy tahoe z71.the speedometer recently quit working.the mileage keeps accumulating but the speed does not show.i know of several other owners with the same problem.this would seem to be a huge safety concern.the chevy dealer tells me the fix is about 200 dollars and they must keep the car for up to a week to send the module back to factory.i can assume most people are like me and cannot do without a car for a week which makes this an issue of a lot of these models on the road without any idea how fast they are going.is there any history of this on record or recalls. Thanksrandy

The contact stated while driving his 2004 chevrolet tahoeat 70 mphand using the cruise control and afterhecoming to a complete stop, the speedometer read 48 mph. While accelerating the speedometer increased to 120 mph and was inconsistent with the speed he was driving.the contact has an appointment scheduled for repair.

2004 chevrolet tahoe .speedometer sticks at 70 mph, then decreases to 40 mph and ultimitely falls to 0 mph even thoughthe cruise control is set at 70 mph.other times the speedometer works fine for a while until the vehicle slows down, then it drops to 0mph, although the vehicle is moving.ak

2004 chevy tahoe-speedometer acting erratic.first noticeproblem while driving on the freeway doing 70 mph, then applied brakes to slow down and the speedometer went down to 30 mph.i came back to 70 mph, so i thought ,but traffic was passing me up like if they were doing 100 mph.in reality i was doing about 50 mph.next day it was working fine, but now the speedometer is jerky.reading chevy tahoe forums a lot of people are having the same problems and after a few days of the jerky speedometer the speedometer completely goes out. This needs to be recalled.

Speedometer is not registering correct speed.started reading inaccurately and now does not read at all.our 2004 chevy tahoe is being taken to the dealership to be repaired.vehicle considered out of warranty due to miles and did not purchase extended warranty.

!st accurrencejust over 36000 miles --speedometer would read faster by about 20 mphdriv ivingit has done this numerous time, s but i foundif turningkey on and off a few times it would be alright for a few weeks . Seemedworse in cold and damp weather. Now,at 60000 miles the speedometer will not correct itself andwasstuck at 25 mph faster then was traveling ---- dealer wanted$500to fix this. I saw where numerous peoplehad the same problem. This should be fixed by the company as itwas a safety problem. Thank you for your time .

I have a 2004 chevy tahoe and in november of 2006 the speedometer started acting odd. Sometimes it would be on a speed when i was sitting still other times it would be at zero whe i was driving and now it is stuck at zero. Apparently, this is not an isolated incident for this vehicle as i have seen numerous complaints about this problem with many other gmc vehicles in this model year. I currently have my truck in a shop to get this repaired but i would hope with the number of complaints that gmc would do the right thing and initiate a recall.

Speedometer stopped working totally.

Speedometer suddenly jumped up 20 mph.with car off, says its going 20 mph.2004 chevy tahoe.very dangerous, almost caused an accident looking down and slamming on the brakes.car only has 48000 miles.

This is in reference to complaint # 11327456the address and the mph are incorrect. Please see form attached to this complaint #affected parts: steering, brakes, electrical, elec, stability control and speed controlthis site wouldn't let me check more than 3.

When braking/acclerating there would be vibration in the pedal linkages.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

I just purchased a 2004 chevrolet tahoe z71 with 29854 miles on it. Today while driving on the freeway the odometer stopped functioning correctly. While driving 70 mph the odometer was reading 20 mph. Then while driving 45 mph it was reading between 10-20 mph. I read through the other complaints and found 3 that seemed to be having the same problem.i just lucked out by finding this web site and wonder how many other people are having the same problem. This appears to be a safety defect in the vehicle. I have a 36/36 bumper to bumper warranty and monday plan on calling the dealer to bring it in to have it repaired under the warranty. This should be a recall since it appears to be happening to several vehicles.

The back heater has completely failed.the dealership has told us that this is a recurring problem and gm has issued a service advisory notice. But they can not help us on the problem, now it is going to cost us over 700 dollars to repair the problem, they said that the module, the actuator and the heater doors have failed.they have to replace all the parts and it will take 4 days to fix the problem.

I had the wipers on because of rain storm, then the driver's side just stopped working.it was raining hard, had no visibility.

I was driving down the road at approximately 50 mph when my rear hatchback window shattered.i had turned on my rear defroster approximately 7 minutes earlier.the temperature outside was about 43.

While driving my electrical gauges all went crazy and then quit one by one. I have only 2 left that work. My windshield wipers do not turn off and intermittent does not work on them. My hub on front tires keep needing replaced. They come lose to point of tire nearly falling off. My engine light came on and never turned off.

My truck is blowing hot on driver side and cold on the passenger side. There are hundreds of people out their with the same isse.this should be a recall by gm see this web site for more detailshttp://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/chevrolet-silverado_1500_pickup/dual_ac_blows_cold_air_on_passenger_but_hot_on_driver.

Defroster works intermittently.when the consumer gets the defroster to come on it does not clear the entire windshield.while drivingon the highway, it stops working.consumer has to pull off of the highway and wait for it to start working again.manufacturer was notified, but not willing to do anything.

When driving in the rain or snow windshieldfogged up, making it very difficult for the driver to see out of the windshield.consumer kept the defroster on, but the problem still recurred.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. The contact started the ignition and exited the vehicle. A few moments later, smoke began to emit through the windows and flames erupted from the dashboard on the passenger's side, which burned a hole in the windshield glass. The contact was able to extinguish the fire and the vehicle was destroyed beyond repair. The failure was contributed to a faulty heater blower. The manufacturer was notified of the incident who informed the contact that there were no recalls related to the defect. The manufacturer had however, issued a customer satisfaction campaign pertaining to the heater blower. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000. Updated 06/26/12

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While driving 65 mph therear window separated from its frame. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the technician could not identify the cause of the failure. The current and failure mileages were 64000.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 20 mph, the rear glass fell onto the ground, but did not break.the current mileage was 41,000 and failure mileage was 35,000. Updated 11/07/08 updated 11/13/08.

The contact owns a 2004 chevrolet tahoe. While sitting at a stop light the speedometer read 100 mph. The failure was not diagnosedby a dealer. When the windshield wipers were turned on they would not shut off until the vehicle was turned off. The current and failuremileages were 74,000.

Abs light came on. While braking to enter an on-ramp, steering wheel jerked and passenger side front wheel almost broke off.
