Takata recall. The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator remained illuminated for an extended period of time. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 136,000.
I purchased new and still own a 2003 chevy tahoe.for the last year and a half the airbag light comes on from time to time.i have had the truck at the dealer numerous times and they tell me they cannot fix the problem.what i have been told is that this light means that the airbag will not deploy if the vehicle gets into an accident.i am very frustrated that this safety issue cannot be corrected.
2003 tahoe and on many occasions the service air bag sensor has come on. I have been told that when this light is on the air bag will not deploy.this seems very dangerous. Also the dealer can't get a code on what is wrong with it unless the light is on.it doesn't stay on a long time but is very frequent in coming on. Looks like this should be a safety issue and should have a recall on it.
The contact owned a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a guard rail. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The front seat passenger sustained 12 broken ribs and 2 collapsed lungs that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent towing facility. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was unavailable.
The steering made popping noises and the steering felt loose.the dealer replaced the steering shaft and front suspension. The vehicle rolled over twice and the air bags did not deploy.*tc
Air bag ilight illuminated intermittently.vehicle was taken to dealer for the fifth time. Dealer had notresolved the problem.
Tamara recalls
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the driver attempted to avoid crashing into a deer and lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle was flipped several times. The air bags failed to deploy and the driver was killed. The contact did not confirm if the driver was secured by the seat vehicle safety belt. The vehicle was destroyed and had not been inspected for the air bag failure. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileages were 182,000.
My air bag lights are always and 4wd lights are i took my truck to a transmission specialist they replacethe transfer case for the 4wd but light remain on and i stiil feel the shift from 2-4 i took it back to the specialist again and again still the same problem
My acceleration pedal engaged and ran thru center block fence. No airbag on either side....thanks a lot.....driver.
The "service airbag" warning light and "service airbag" display comes on when i start the vehicle--and stays on.every so often, when i start the car, the warnings disappear, only to reappear after the next start of the engine.
Takata recall is necessary my airbag light is on upon starting vehicle along with service airbag warning. I am afraid that this is an unsafe condition that should be repaired at no cost to me as there seems to be many other complaints on this same issue.
The steering shaft and front suspension was replaced.the airbags did not deploy when the vehicle rolled over.the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice for a popping noise and loose steering.the steering shaft was removed and lubed and the front lower crossmember was tightened.the consumer's son was driving the vehicle when he lost control .the vehicle rolled over twice, end over end the side over side one and a half times.the consumer requested to be notified of how many of these steering, braking and or other problems incurred with this make/model. *sc
All of the sudden the air bag indicator light came on and a message appeared saying "service air bag". We took it to a mechanic and he hooked it up to the computer system and it said that whole air bag system had failed (several sensors had failed).we called chevy to see if it might be able to be fixed with a warranty, but they said the car is out of warranty. (we knew this, but figured there should be an extended warranty on airbags.) they told us to take it to a chevy dealership.we called the local dealership and they told us it would cost $100 for the diagnostic test.however, we already did this with our other mechanic.chevy basically wouldn't help us unless we paid for the diagnostic which is ridiculous since we already did that.the guy at the dealership told us that we could drive around, no problem, but that the air bags wouldn't deploy.we were told by our mechanic that it would be very expensive to fix this.we think it is unfair that we have to pay to get this fixed, when there has never been any accidents with this car.the airbags have never deployed, and all the sudden the system won't work if we need it and get in an accident. We're asking for help to get chevy to fix this problem because they should.this could be a potential lawsuit if there were an accident.please help us to get chevy to take responsibility for an error that happened during the building of the car.
One day this winter i went out in the garage and started my tahoe. Out of the blue my service air bag light came on. Today i took my care to get it checked out and the error codes (b0051 & b0053) indicated that the airbags had been deployed. The service manager agreed that there was no evidence of a collision or that the air bags had been deployed, and that the air bags are not working. Due to the age of the vehicle they indicated that there was nothing they go do to cover the work needed to repair the problem and get the airbags working again. The estimate is for $1,200. They also indicated that there were not any recalls or service bulletins on this type of problem.i contacted gm via chat, and they said there were not recalls or service bulletins for this issue, and they could not due anything to assist with the repair. I am the original owner and always kept the vehicle in good working order using the original dealer, and have not had any accidents with the vehicle. I can afford to get the repair done, my concern is how many other people that can't might be impacted by this and will drive the vehicles without the air bags.
- the contact ownsa 2003 tahoe that the passenger 's side airbag deployed unexpectedly on 1/27/07, a warning light turned on at that time.the contact has not takenthe vehicleto the dealer because of a warranty issue.the contact complained since this wasa 3 year old vehicle and has been in no accidents.the contactstated that six months after purchasing the vehicle the steering shaft vibrated when making a left or a right turn, the dealer replaced it at no charge.this resolved the issue. However,7 months later the vibration restarted.the dealer lubricated the parts and it worked again.the contact wantedtofile a complaint since this problem was still unresolved.however, the vehiclewasnow out of warranty. The current mileage was 44,796 and the failure mileage was 10,000.
My 2003 tahoe lt has a defective air bag.the light on my panel displayed this when my car had approximately 80k miles.i reported this to carriage motors in temecula, ca.they refused to have this repaired at chevrolet factory cost. I again turned in my tahoe, today, may 11, 2009, and the shop manager frank spizer refused to have this fixed but instead offered me 20% off a repair cost of $699.00 i refused this discount as i firmly believe that since my 2003 tahoe has never been in an accident, that there should be no reason for the air bag to fail like this. I want for gm to pay for this and to issue a recall to all tahoe owners who have this same malady.the manager of the authorized chevrolet repair service at carriage motors is frank spizer, (951) 694-6060.
The consumer was informed the passenger air bag sensor wouldn't activate the air bags for 80 pounds or less, but it did when their 62 pound child was in the seat. *ph other problem are as followed:driver's door experienced intermittent rattles, steering vibrations/grinding when turned to left, sunroof leaked heavily when it rained or when going through the car wash, dash lights were inoperative, headlights were inoperative, vehicle did not shift when in 4 wheel drive, window molding was loose, stereo lights flickered, seat memory in the driver's seat would not move to preset memory positions and would not move forward when the ignition key was removed, and the front power window along with the rear passenger window were inoperative. *sc
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the instrument panel gauges all failed and she was unable to read the fuel gauge, speedometer, thermometer, etc. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where they advised that the instrument cluster failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was later contacted and advised that there were no recalls for the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The current mileage was approximately 168,286.
2003 tahoe speedometer no longer works properly.i will be at a complete stop and speedometer reads 100mph.this is an electrical problem that chevy is aware of but refuses to fix.
I can be going down the highway running 65-70 mph and the reduced engine power light will come on and reduces my speed to 10 mph! i pull over, disconnect the battery cable and replace it, then i could continue for another week or so. Finally, i left the diagonstic computer in my truck and was able to capture the code p1125. The mechanic said to replace the throttle body. That was done in october. It ran fine for a while, but it started doing it again. The throttle body was replaced again! now, two months later, it's doing it again! no one can seem to fix the problem. Meanwhile, i am a female who travels the highways everyday going back and forth to work and i have been in several dangerous situations due to this problem that will not stop! as of now, i can not drive my truck and having to rely on carpooling again until it's fixed for the third time in the past 6 months. It also appears that several people are having the same problem with no results. Someone is going to get killed if this is not addressed soon!
Instrument panel failing on 2003 chevy tahoe. Problem began around 119,000. Speedometer gives inaccurate readings or doesn't work at all. Instrument panel lights are beginning to malfunction as well.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the contact turned the ignition key just enough to activate the radio.she then heard a popping noise from the cigarette lighter component and smelled smoke.the cigarette lighter was released from the socket and a small fire erupted from the instrument panel.there were no prior warnings.the fire department was called to the scene and a report was filed.the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer.the contact was waiting for an explanation of what caused the failures.the failure and current mileages were 80,053.updated 10/14/08updated10/15/08.
Driving along the highway at the posted speed of 65 mph the speedometer suddenly dropped to 0 and the needle ceased to move. Upon stopping at the next rest stop and checking for circuit breakers i realized that the problem was probably within the instrument itself and continued. Returning to the freeway i noticed the speedometer was once again functioning but cars were passing me at an excessive speed. I estimated, by traveling with the flow of traffic, our speedometer was reading 15-20 mph fast. After stopping again and troubleshooting with no success we resumed our trip with the speedometer reading approximately 10-15 slower than actual speed.upon notifying our dealer i was told the speedometers in this year vehicle were failing at a excessive rate and the manufacturer had decided to offer and extended warranty to 70000 miles for replacement. I was never notified of this problem and warned of the defective parts in my vehicle. This particular trip was to mexico and the reliability of my speedometer would be a particular concern on the roads i travelled. This part should have been recalled due to the excessive rate of failure and the manufacturer should have notified the consumer immediately.
Engine light ,oil pressure gauge droppedto zero ,but had no motor symptoms.also 3 chimes rang.would like to have history of repairs and previous codes. Thank you. [xxx] please email to me or i can download from my p/cinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Abs, brake service light comes, door locks cycle repeatedly, loses power and won't start.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the instrument panel and the gauges failed intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel gage and ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.updated 08/12/14*ljgm informed the consumer, since he was not the original owner, they would not fix the problem. Updated 08/14/14
My 2003 tahoe's speedometer failed less than 5 years after i bought the vehicle. The car has 95000 miles on it. Chevrolet recognizes that they have a problem with speedometer failures. My speedometer will show 60 mph at a standstill and show various speeds while moving. Chevrolet issued an extended warranty for vehicles experiencing this problem but cut off coverage at 70000 miles or 7 years. This item should be a safety related recall regardless of mileage since it is an obvious defect that they will only partially admit to.
The speedometer failed - indicating incorrect speed.for example, driving through town at the normal flow of traffic (20-30 mph) the speedometer indicates 50+ mph.
When driving, i noticed my speedometer registered around 80 and it was on a road that i normally go about 55.many others were passing me, and i couldn't believe people would be going 90 or 100.and i certainly didn't feel i was going 80.i slowed down to 55, and i was crawling.i came to a stop light, and my speedometer went down to 15 at a stand still.i sped up again, and the same thing.now it is stuck at 40 when sitting still and goes to about 100 when i drive.apparently googling this, it appears to be a massive problem and no one can understand why a recall hasn't been issued.the dealer told me a bad cluster at $650 to repair.this needs to be escalated and chevrolet needs to cover this problem.it is an extreme hazard on the road, and probably has caused many accidents and fatalities because of faulty readings.please let me know what else i can do to get resolution.
4 wheel drive light came on and would not engage.the dealer told the consumer it was a software problem.*lathe consumer thought the problem was resolved until a couple of weeks later when he attempted to place the vehicle in reverse and it did not engage.after trying a second time if engaged and the 4-wheel drive light illuminated again and the vehicle failed to go into 4-wheel drive.the consumer was finally told that the manufacturer did not have a fix for the malfunction of the 4-wheel drive.the vehicle had other problems such as a rattling noise coming from the glove compartment, the remote keyless entry was inoperative, there was a thumping sound coming from the drivers side when the consumer made a turn, the emblem fell off the back of the truck, the seat mechanism did not work and there was in the drivers side running board.
We noticed the speedometer and the battery was losing charge for several months.we have replaced the battery multiple times and had alternator and starter checked but could not find anything wrong with them.did not take the vehicle to a chevrolet dealer cause couldn't afford it the computer analyzing cost.looked up on computer and in 2009 there was a recall on the "cluster" of the 2003 tahoe and we were never notified.chevrolet now says the recall has expired.we did not change addresses at all during this time period.(i also have a friend with a 2003 tahoe and she did not receive a notice of recall either and has the same problems).what do i do about getting this problem fixed without it costing me a great deal of money.if they know something is wrong with one of their vehicles they should correct the problem especially if someone has a vehicle with a problem and never received a recall notice.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.in the summer of 2008, the contact received a gmc voluntary recall pertaining to the instrumental panel.she took the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnosis, which reported oil gauge and speedometer failures.the manufacturer stated that the recall applied to vehicles with 70,000 miles or less.the vehicle is not included because it exceeds the mileage requirements.the nhtsa campaign id number was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 115,000.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that smoke came from under the hood. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was determined that the blower relay resister module failed. This failure caused the air conditioner to fail and it smelled like plastic was burning. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 135,000.
I have noticed several complaints about this issue and it appears gm does not care.my speedometer is never correct.it runs 20-30 mph over (and sometimes under) what we are actually doing.this first was noticed several weeks ago (prior to actually failing) when it appeared that the needle would jerk (or step action) up or down,i know chevrolet sent out a notice on this a year or so ago, but my vehicle was beyond their (gm) mileage requirement.i feel that their "bean counters" knew this at the time and it was against the american consumer.anyway, this should be a safety concern by not only gm, but dot as well simply on the fact that one does not know how fast they are going.if caught off guard - thinking they are going 70 mph but doing 90 mph, loose control or run into someone.on the opposite side, doing 70 mph, glance down and see that they are doing 90 mph, they may hit the brake too hard to slow down and loose control or get rear ended.i could go on more with this issue, but it will probably not help (except add to the piles of complaints you are already receiving), so i'll quit for now.thank you and please "light a fire" under gm's corporate people before someone gets killed over this.
Our 2003 tahoe has strange speedometer readings that are not correct.it caused us to travel faster than was safe on the road. When noticed we slowed down pulled over and waited for another car to follow.
Since january of 2006, the speedometer has failed numerous times.while standing still it will register any speed above 30 or while traveling at highway speeds it will register 0 mph.the tachometer has failed to work three times and the gas gauge has registered half a tank while it takes 20 gallons to fill the 25 gallon tank.last year i had the intermediate steering shaft replaced before the warranty ran out because it was clunking.it is now starting to clunk again!!the vehicle has 50,000 miles on it.i just received a warning for speeding, 54 in a 45mph because i can"t tell how fast i am going!!!!!!
Yesterday was driving home from work and came to a round about, slowed down and vehicle died (alternator gauge went below 14, oil pressure dropped below 40, and battery light came on).i lost all steering and brake pedal was stiff.now vehicle continuously idles rough and will stall out if not on the throttle, idles 500 and lower.i have replaced mass air flow sensor, air filter, plugs, wires, o2 sensors, fuel filter, evap canister, alternator, and had throttle body cleaned.see there are many complaints filed of the same issues and wondering if anyone at gm has found a solution.also have noticed gm has recalled the intake gasket but i have not received anything on this recall.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 65 mph, the speedometer and fuel gauges displayed inaccurate readings.the failures occurred intermittently and without warning.there was a recall on the odometer and the contact recently received a recall notice after the vehicle's mileage exceeded 70,000.the contact was displeased to know that the vehicle was excluded due to the excessive mileage.the vin and recall number were unknown.the failure mileage was 65,000 and current mileage was 126,000.
Speedometer on 03 tahoe stuck on 90mph. Have heard tons of complaints on this and still no recall issued. What to do???????
Front passenger seat heater comes on by itself. Blinker sensor will tell me that the blinker is on when it isn't. Cd/radio lights blink on and off. Rear passenger window rolls down by itself. Fuel guage does not work properly and will often say it's full when it's empty or it's empty when it's full or half a tank when it is empty. Fuel injectors keep clogging up with carbon. Transmission failure from stop and delay acceleration while driving.
2003 tahoe has a defective instrument panel cluster - gm refuses to repair under their "special coverage" because that coverage expired at 80,000 miles.my vehicle is setup with a tow package allowing you to tow up to 7,000 pounds.it is critically important that you know your speed when towing a trailer or you can easily loose control.my speedometer is currently stuck at 10 miles per hour.gm has diagnosed and stated the instrument cluster is defective.gm does not consider a speedometer to be a safety device, but because they promote this vehicle with a "tow package" speed becomes a much more critical factor in vehicle operation.
September 2008 my speedometer quit working.its stuck on 100mph.had the gm dealer do a diagnostics and they told me the cluster needed to be replaced.two weeks later i received a letter stating that if my mileage was under 70,000 gm would replace it for no cost to me.my 2003 tahoe has over 70,000 and less than a week ago the oil gauge quit working.the gm dealer will not take care of this problem for me unless i pay the $500 for the parts and labor.i believe this is turning into a safety issue and the gm dealer said that eventually the other gauges will go if i don't get this fixed.
My husband and i were traveling to houston this past weekend, when we looked down at the speedometer to see that we were traveling at a rate of 120 mph.since flow of traffic was passing us quite easily, we were assured that we were not, in fact, traveling 120 mph.when we parked the car, we were still traveling at 120 mph.gm is aware of this issue with their product, but has not done a full scale recall.instead, they have a 7 year/70,000 mile warranty extension.the issue with that is that we purchased this car with more than 70k miles on it.the dealership knowingly sold us a vehicle that had major issues with the speedometer.
The speedometer of my chevy tahoe 2003 does not register correct speed.
2003 chevy tahoe speedometer has been working erratically for the past 12 months.especially during hot weather, the speed display showed slower than the actual speed.stopping the car, turning off the ignition and restarting usually fixed the problem.on 10/9/06 the speedometer showed 60 mph when the car was off, and now does not ever fall below 60.online, i've seen many similar complaints from chevy & gmc customers with the exact same problem.the dealer has not indicated that a problem exists, but a dealer told me that they see many repairs of this type.i am scheduled to have the part replaced in two weeks at my expense (since my vehicle is out of warranty) but would like to know if enough complaints indicate that a recall should be issued.
This is now the 2nd winter season that the hvac blower motor pulses between high and low when the outside temperature is below approximately 35 degrees.this seems to continue until the engine has warmed up then stops.the dealer has been unable to find a cause.
Speedometer went out registered going 100mph when only going approx 40. Took to dealer and was charged $515.
I purchased a new battery for my truck and now whenever i get to a stop sign or red light it goes dead. I don't understand. Everything was fine before i put in another battery. Also, while driving the speedometer needle was higher than the speed i was going and the fuel needle showed more than actually was in the truck.
My wife reported an issue with here instrument cluster on her 2003 chevy tahoe in october of this year.the oil pressure, water temp, and speedometer were indicating excessively high readings.when she got home and turned off the vehicle the instruments were still pegged past the values on the displays and the speedometer remained at 45 mph ignition off and in park.the problem would occasionally clear but now remains constant.after researching the issue on the web i found that this is a problem reported by many people.i feel that gm should be made to correct an obvious know problem.thank-you for you good work.
While driving my instrument cluster stopped working pulled over unplugged battery started working but been happening a lot it has 180,000 on it
Digital console suddenly read foreign languages and then blinked out while driving.when this occurred the console components were not readable.in some cases, the console stayed illuminated in the foreign language.the consumer was unable to correct the failure. The battery died on 6 separate occasions.when this occurred, the dealership reprogrammed the system.however, theproblem recurred.the dealership replaced the module in the console.*sc
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe k1500. The contact stated that the heater failed and would only emit extremely hot air. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they advised the contact that the blower resister and plug needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.updated 05/21/12
I bought a 2003 tahoe with 69,000 miles on it and about 20,000 miles later the speedometer stops working it is hard to drive this way. I found out that there was an issue with this on other g.m vehicles and was covered if the miles were under 70,000 miles. Now i am struck with the repair costs. If there was some sort of recall then my truck should have been fixed before i bought it, but nothing was said about it.
Own a 2003 chevrolet tahoe with 43939 miles as of this email.yesterday, we noticed the speedometer no longer registers how fast the car is going.while traveling on the free-way the speedometer registers 0 mph.
While driving the tahoe close to home i started to smell of burning and i could see smoke coming up from the dash. I pulled over and by then the whole car was filled with smoke and i could see flames coming from under the dash on the passenger side. I tried to put out the flames (not recommended) but the fire just spread upwards into the dash and was obviously out of control. I left the vehicle and called 911 and within minutes the whole front of the car was engulfed in flames. The police and fire service arrived and eventually the fire was extinguished after it had burned through most of the vehicle. Fortunately i was on my own and i suffered no injuries except a few minor burns to my hands. I am guessing the fire may have started with the blower motor resistor wiring which is a problem many others have reported.
Speedometer intermittently reads 60/100 while parked, or reads 10-20 while going down the freeway.
Odometer sticking - unhappy chevy owner - recurring event i purchased my 2003 chevy tahoe a year ago and just within the past fewweeks my odometer has been sticking at 120. Of course i have not driven that fast ever and this is hard to accomplish when truck is in neutral (yet it reads 120..)eventually, it resets itself and that takes a couple days. I have barely registered 10,000 miles of the 54,000 that are on vehicle and can not understand why this could be happening. I did call the dealer andof course just in conversation ball park figure would be around $500 plus no transportation for at least 3 - 5 days. I decided to take my 2003 chevy tahoe to a independent mechanic for a less expensive review. It was determined that their is a problem that can not be fixed by an unauthorized party. So know i have this truck that is not safe to drive by nc state due to faulty odometer.will follow up with further action with manufacturer and whoever else.noticed other complaints and wanted to make sure everyone knows that there is a problem with the 2003 chevy tahoe. Very unhappy 1st time chevy owner.
Faulty speedometer on my 2000 tahoe. Reads over a 100 mph in park.
Speedometer in 2003 tahoe failing to give accurate speed. Speed does not register at all sometimes. Needle to speedometer is "jerky" when it does work. Have not had repaired yet because i was searching out possible solutions when i discovered that numerous tahoe owners are having the same problem. If the manufacturer is admitting there is a problem them why should "we" have to pay for it. Especially after discovering the cost ( from $500-$575). Please help!
Recently purchased (3 days ago) a 2003 chevrolet tahoe and both my wife and i noticed erratic behavior from speedometer.after much research and another family member with the same problem on a 2004 tahoe, we realized that this was a serious safety issue that an extreme amount of other people were having.the speedometer "sticks" at different points while accelerating or decelerating,i wish to get this issue resolved as soon as possible via recall.gm is well aware of this problem and it should issue a full recall on the instrument cluster to fix the problem.a simple "special situation" warranty is not good enough.gm must issue a recall on this very widely experienced problem.they also said that although my mileage was only 2000 miles over the "70,000" mile mark, they wouldn't fix it.this is a serious safety issue!gm...do the right thing!reference blogs and gm class action lawsuit at: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f11f710/159 and also at http://www.lrolaw.com/pdf/gmspeed.pdf.
When i when to pull out of my drive way 3 or 4 weeks ago i turned on my left turn signal and the four hazards started flashing! it stopped and started back up again and now does it all the time!
Not sure what is happening to my car but it is very scary when it happens. Shortly after i start my car and it is warmed up, when i am driving it and i put the brakes on to slow down on a corner or at a intersection, my car will shut off. I can't steer and the brakes are hard topush. Please help, don't want to kill myself or my family.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the gauges on the instrument panel were not functional. At the time of the complaint, the fuel gauge and tachometer were not working at all. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who took a complaint but offered no further assistance. The current mileage was approximately 80,000. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
We have problems with the running lights, dash gauges not working properly. Now the engines is starting to idle roughly and make noises. We got a notice letting us know that there was a recall on a part that runs all of the dash gauges. Some kind of computer thing. I went into the dealership and they told me my car had too many miles to honor the recall and i would have to pay for it!. Lets see, we wait long enough for miles to get past 100,000 miles and then they don't have to fix all the vehicles. I can see another tahoe coming down the road and one of the running lights is always out. We have a 2003 tahoe. The dash coating started pealing and they wouldn't cover it being replaced. I had less than 60,000 miles at that time. They said that the extended warranty didn't cover this. The tahoe is shifting real rough at times and will speed up on it's own at times. This shifting happens at least once a day. The gauges don't work at all. (fuel, oil pressure, and sometimes the rpm won't work at all).
While driving on the interstate at 70 mph the car switched to reduced engine power and reduced speed immediately to 25 mph, leaving me in the position to navigate through rush hour traffic to get to the side of the road. After happening a couple of times over a 30 period, it is now a regular occurrence. Each attempt to take the car in to a mechanic to be repaired results in the same issue occurring afterwards. Mechanics seem not to be able to determine the cause resulting in a completely unsafe car. The throttle body has been replaced, wire harness, pedal sensor, and throttle body sensor. Nothing has solved the problem!
While parked lights pulse bright then dim, this includes all dash lights and headlight and tail lights.
My tahoe caught fire inside the driver side dash. It was parked, no one had driven it that day. I put in a claim with gm (claim #sr 8-2955875514) and it was denied as they said there are no recalls for my tahoe. This fire started out of no where. Thank goodness our neighbor came banging at the door to let us know that our tahoe was on fire. We weren't home at the time but my son was, we arrived to find him with the water hose extinguishing the flames that were coming from inside the vehicle. I sent the pics to gm and they just denied it with no other explanation other than there was no current recall. They didn't even tell me why the fire started no one came out to see the vehicle.
03 chevy tahoe with 28,000 miles, all gauges quit working, have no idea how fast we are going,no idea on gas,oil pressure etc. I am afraid to drive this and can not afford 700. To fix what should have been a safety recall.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 55 mph on normal road conditions, the speedometer intermittently displayed inaccurate readings.the failure would occur without warning.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but was not repaired.through research, the contact discovered a warranty extension coverage and notified the manufacturer.the vehicle was excluded from the warranty because the odometer exceeded the mileage limitation of 70,000.the failure mileage was 26,000 and current mileage was 86,000.
Takata recall, today, may 31, 2019, i drove my truck to a meeting at 1:30 in the afternoon and parked my vehicle in the parking lot (it was stationary in a city parking lot).when i returned to my car after the meeting at 3:30 in the afternoon i open my car and the interior was engulfed in smoke. A component of the power seat on the drivers side started the fire.it was fortunate no one was in the truck at the time and the windows were closed.after the fire ignited and used up all the oxygen in the interior the fire burned out on it's own.i did call the fire department he had never seen anything like this before.(i've included the fire department investigators card and i can obtain a report if needed).the investigator was the one that determined where the fire started.he explained that the top layer of the seat upholstery has some fire retardant but the underside does not. You can see that the seat was burned from the bottom to the top, the electrical was still operational as you can see from the lights that are on in the photos.i can find no recall on this issue and your assistance would be appreciated.i can only imagine what would have happen if i had been behind the wheel while driving and or had my daughter with me. I am the sole owner of this chevy tahoe since 2003.i was completely stock and no outside work has ever been done to it.i have had it regularly serviced and it was running great.i have never noticed any problems with my seats. I do not smoke and had no other combustibles in the car. Please see photo's attached.## vin passed ## chevy tahoe 2003 ##
My control panel lights and heat and air control knobs are going out. My back seat seatbelt sometimes want latch and my 3rd row seating will not latch to the bracket.my stearing is bad it will not line up and thats just the begining of the problems that should not happen. My grandkids ride in this vehicle.
Speedometer quit working.gm needs to step up and fix this problem.
My speedometer does not work on my 2003 tahoe.
I have a 2003 chevy tahoe. The speedometer isn't registering the correct speed or sometimes doesn't register at all.the gauge is sticking at various numbers on the speedometer.
I purchased a 03 chevy tahoe that currently only has 45,000 miles. Recently, my speedometer intermittently stops working. I notice it happened once on a trip out of state, now it is happening more frequently. I am also experiencing my radio changing stations on its own at the start up of my vehicle. I also have the left thermostat adjuster lighting that went out about the same time my speedometer started acting up.
I was driving my 03tahoe, when an explosion went off in my vehicle. My entire back end of my tahoe was literally blow to bits. There were no other vehicles or people around me. I immediately called thepolice dept. They were shocked to see the condition of my vehicle and said it looked to them, that it was a chevy malfunction of some sort. I called my insurance company right away. They came out and towed the vehicle. They were also shocked to see the damage, and had no idea what or why it had happened. After assessing all the damage they found it would cost $2000 to fix the damage. Ins. Said they were willing to cover the damage, we had to pay a $500 deductible. I have five kids who are normally in the truck with me, thank god that morning, they were not. Glass was blown all over the inside of my truck, the noise alone would have damaged their ears, mine were ringing all day. I also contacted chevy's customer service line. I spoke with an agent there who as no help, asked to speak to her supervisor, and she was no help. I then asked for whoever was above her, and i was told there was no one else to help me. I asked for a name, a phone number, an email anything for someone with more authority and was told that there was no one. This is wrong! what if i had been driving down i95, or what if i had my children with me?? then id be suing chevy for millions! im asking is that they cover the $500 deductible since this is obviously something that is a safety issue. This wasn't normal wear and tare, this wasn't something that was just out of warranty and isn't covered. This is crazy! this is obviously a chevy defect and needs to be addressed. I am sending pictures so you can see how horrible this was. This wasn't just the back glass shattered, this was like a bomb literally blew off my back door, while i was driving. Chevy needs to take responsibility for this.
Speedometer needle no longer working. Driving one day and needle started to show speed faster than what i was going. Needle is now just pointing straight down.
At 43,000 miles my speedometer got stuck and will not work. At park it reads 80 or 20. I bought my tahoe new with only 10 miles and now it is 3 years old. I called a dealer and he said that should not have happen to a new vehicle. When i am driving down the highway i look and it says that i am going 60 then a second later it reads that i am going 120 and it is stuck. This is not safe for anyone and i have heard other people complain that there tahoe did the same thing.
The speedometer on my 03 chevy tahoe randomly goes up to 10 mph and stays there. The only way to bring it back down is to shut off and restart the vehicle several times.it drops 5 mph each time you restart it.
2003 chevy tahoe speedometer has stopped working, needle is stuck past 120 mph, even when vehicle is stopped or off! call gm customer service, but haven't received any help. Have been called on 2 different days, that they would call the next day with info, but only called and told they will call tomorrow.
I have a 2003 chevy tahoe. The speedometer started reading false speeds and now does not work at all.this is a safety issue as it was when it went out on interstate 70 near denver while my wife was driving with our 2 young daughters in the vehicle. Dealers have told me this is a problem with the 03 tahoes.
Speedometer doesn't work properly. Will show any thing from 60 to 120 when going 10 mph. Will work for short periods of time. This is a safety hazard. Iam a fraid to use cruise.it will get some one killed. Gm needs to do a recall on this . They think they have financial problems now just wait till all the law suites start coming in. The manufacture who made the faulty parts need to be held accountable. Please help 1000's of us consumers.
The speedometer on my 2003 tahoe acts erratically.the vehicle has approx.76000 miles on it.i understand this is a widespread problem with many models that chevy has produced.
The odometer on my 2003 chevy tahoe is acting erratically, especially on cold days it will stick to 40 mph even while standing still. It has this week been stuck at the 120 mph mark. Even while using the cruise control, the needle would bounce around. I have seen hundreds of complaints online for this same issue. It is dangerous to not know the speed limit that you are doing, i believe that since there are so many complaints for the same issue with the same exact symptoms, that it is a manufacturers defect. I have 4 months left on the dealerships warranty, so i had them asses it, they said i would need to have the cluster replaced, which they did so today with a used cluster that has 124,000 miles on it, which my vehicle will now show permanently. I dropped it of yesterday with 72,000 miles, needless to say ii am very upset about the whole thing.
My 2003 chevy tahoe has 100, 100 miles.the speedometer has suddenly been acting up.the needle jerks up/down instead of smooth movement.occasionally i will be on interstate driving over 50 mph but needle is at 20-30 mph.just today my needle won't go below 15mph when i am fully stopped & in park.researching the problem has led me to find many more people are experiencing the same thing with their gmc vehicles from 2003/2004.
The instrument cluster on my 2003 tahoe is going bad.the cost of repair is arounf ~400.00.i received a letter form gm saying they would extend the warranty for 70k miles. They have known of this issue for a couple of years and are just now offering to cover it after most vehicles are over the 70 k mile limit.i called gm to see if they could work with me on this. They instructed me to get a diagnostic ($60) and then i called to verify problem with them. Then they told me they would not cover any costs.
At 75,000 miles of normal driving the speedometer is not correctly registering present speed. Most often excessively high. However an un reliable speedometer is un safe for driving in the mountains as speed entering curves needs to be register correctly for safety. I nearly had a bad accident! form the numerous complaints and law suites at the following site chevrolet needs to do something!please, please do something.thanks!http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f11f710/11.
Approx. Every other time i drive my 2003 chevy tahoe the speedometer misreads. It is usually off by around 20-30 mph under the actual speed of the vehicle. The oil pressure is also affected by dropping to almost zero. I have heard there is a recall for 2005 silverado with similar problems however i have not found a recall for my vehicle. Thank you.
2003 chevrolet tahoe- speedometer began erratic jerking, finally began reading either faster or slower than actual, errors ranging from 5 to 90 mph!
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 57 mph on normal road conditions the speed odometer displayed inaccurate readings.the vehicle has not been repaired for the failure.the failure mileage was 114,000.the current mileage was 116,671.bl updated 10/5/09 updated 10/07/09
At first, the fuel gage on our 2003 tahoe, would only read from 1/2 - entirely full and then would drop into the red when almost empty.this began about a 1 1/2 years after purchasing the car.then the speedometer would register that the car was going 40 mph while we were at a complete stop or at 0 while we were driving on the freeway.this began happening when the car was about 2 1/2 yrs old.it got progressively worse within 6 mos.we would need to stop, turn off the car and restart it for it to reset itself.however, this would only be temporary and it would begin to read incorrectly within a few minutes.this was a tremendous safety hazard so we took it to our dealership, who called gm and said since the mileage was over 70,000 miles, they would do nothing to fix it.however, we were told that if we had purchased a maintenance agreement in the first place, we would have been covered.this was an unacceptable response to me since we bought the chevy brand because of its reliability and wouldn't expect a speedometer to problem to begin shortly after purchasing the car.
I have a 2003 chevy tahoe. The speedometer started reading false speeds and now does not work at all.this is a safety issue.dealers have told me this is a problem with 2003 tahoes.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated while driving various speeds the speedometer and fuel gauge malfunctioned. The contact was unable to determine how fast the vehicle was traveling. The manufacturer mailed the contact a letter regarding the defect with the instrument cluster. When the letter was received the contact did not have an issue with the instrument cluster on the vehicle. The letter stated that the manufacturer extended the warranty to seven years from the date that the vehicle was in service or 70,000 miles.the contact exceeded the extended warranty and the dealer will not repair the instrument cluster under the warranty; however, the manufacturer should be responsible for the repairs since this was a known safety issue.the failure mileage was 55,000.
2003 chevy tahoe, under 80k miles, speedometer "sticks".currently registering 120 mph while sitting still.takes several days for speedometer to return to zero or show correct speed.have found multiple descriptions of same issue on many internet forums.
Very well documented via internet: speedometer and fuel gauges failed to work. The speedometer will stick at a random point and then add the speed traveling , andthis results in the speed not being accurately displayed. The problem has been ongoing for over 2 years starting with the gas gauge showing fuel remainingbut the tank being empty. Very unsafe and costly known problem by gm and most owners.
I have a 2003 chevy tahoe.speedometer went out at 94,000 miles.gm is aware of faulty instrument panel.won't replace part, at their cost, due to 7 year/70,000 mile limitation.
Speedometer on 2003 chevrolet tahoe gives incorrect reading.rpm gauge also fails to provide accurate readings.contacted local chevrolet dealership who told me they weren't aware of the issue and wanted hundreds of dollars to repair even though this is a known issue with gmac and obviously a very dangerous issue.
2003 chevrolet tahoe instrument cluster failure causing speedometer to not function properly.
My speedometer in my 2003 chevy tahoe started failing at 65000 miles.i will be stopped and the speedometer says i'm going 45 mph.
The oil pressure gauge on my 2003 tahoe recently started climbing and reading extremely excessive oil pressure and not resetting after the key is turned off. I have found the same problem to be recurring on my same model vehicle with other consumers. After conversations with my local dealer and with gm's customer service they reluctantly replaced my instrument cluster free of charge. Thankfully it saved me hundreds of dollars as i was considered out of their warranty being i have 93,000 + miles on my truck and they state they will only honor it for 75000 miles. Thanks gm.
Speedometer was jumping back and forth. It would not get off 0 mph while i was clearly going faster. It would not register any speed. My tahoe has 47,475 miles on it.
My vehicle is a 2003 chevrolet tahoe with 60,000 miles. The speedometer and other gauges on the instrument panel do not function properly. They move to places which are completely off the chart. As an example, the speedometer suddenly began to read that the vehicle was traveling 120 mph when it was going about 30 mph. The oil gauge also reads higher than the numbers go and the gas gauge has begun to give the improper reading; when i fill it up with a full tank it says i only have half. I have not taken the vehicle in for repair due to the potential cost. It seems that it would be an extremely expensive repair and it's probably a defect anyway.
Speedometer on 2003 chevy tahoe defective -while driving the other day at 55mph speedometer jumped to over 100mph. This caught me off-guard and i stepped on the brakes, almost getting rear-ended in moderate traffic. A major safety issue, in my opinion!!now when vehicle is stopped speedometer reading 50 mph. Reading on the web it is evident this is a known problem for many years. Dealer wants to charge over $800 to fix this safety problem!
I currently drive a 2003 chevy tahoe and while going down the highway today, i noticed that my speedometer was suddenly reading "0"...while i was at cruising speed. I pulled off the road and then all of a sudden my tachometer raced up to 6000 rpm's. I was at a complete stop and my speed was now 0 but my rpm's were showing almost 5000. After turning off my ignition for a few minutes, the speedometer started working again but it was very jumpy. The tach is now reading 3500 when the ignition is turned off.this is a safety issue and therefore should be treated as such by gm and chevrolet. I've literally read over 400 online postings in the last hour from people experiencing similar problems with the instrument cluster on gm and chevrolet trucks and sport utilities.
I own a 2003 chevy tahoe. I visited the dealer in november 2005 with a failing speedometer. It seemed to stick on cold mornings and resulted in high readings. The movement was very jerky and there also seemed to be a rhythmic clicking sound coming from the cluster. The vehicle was still under warranty at this time. The dealer was unable to find a problem, but 'reset' the cluster at no charge. After a few weeks, the speedometer seemed to be working again except under very cold conditions. It is now 2/13/2007 and the speedometer is sticking again. It reads about 70 mph when the vehicle is parked. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they state that the cluster needs to be replaced (at a cost of $500+). The vehicle is no longer under warranty, so i am checking with the service manager since this is a proven, pre-existing condition per my visit in 2005. I should have an answer on that on 2/16/2007. I searched the internet and on a single site, topix.net, i found over 400 entries of customers experiencing the same problem on gmc and chevy trucks and suvs. This is a very unsafe condition (not being able to gauge speed)!
The cluster in my 2003 chevy tahoe has failed. It started failing at approximately 80,000 miles. None of the gauges work properly. It is a safety hazard. Dealer says it will cost approx. $600 to fix. I feel that gm should recall and fix this at no cost.
Speedometer started just started to stick at certain speeds, occasionally come down, or stay a one speed until acceleration, and then continue to climb.had the cluster replaced, at a substantial cost.now my oil pressure gage doesn't work.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. While traveling at speeds of 60 mph, the contact noticed that the instrument panel had become inoperable. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the dashboard would need to be replaced. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 12,000.
I have a 2003 chevy tahoe, the speedometer does not work, from what i have been reading this seems to be a common problem with this vehicle, also it's my understanding that gm is fully aware of the problem but is not will to do anything about it, like many others i fell this could be a safety issue, any help would be appreciated.thank you!
Speedometer on 2003 chevy tahoe defective - while driving on the freeway on my way home from work in moderate traffic, i look down and my speedo is displaying over 120mph. This caught me off-guard and i stepped on the brakes, almost getting rear-ended. I called the dealer and they stated that there is a service bulletin out that would cover this safety issue. However since my vehicle has 85k it does not qualify. Upon searching on the internet, this appears to be a major safety issue and it is evident this is a known problem for many years. Dealer wants to charge over $750-$1000 to fix this safety problem! something needs to done!
The speedometer on the vehicle instrument panel malfunctions and causes inaccurate readings.
2003 chevy tahoe speedometer stopped working.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the vehicle's speedometer is malfunctioning.regardless of the speed, the speedometer will rest at zero or get stuck at 40 mph, regardless of the driving speed.the speedometer also makes a ticking sound.the current mileage is 65,000 and failure mileage was 61,000.updated 05/23/07.
The speedometer on my 2003 chevy tahoe had been sticking. I took it to the dealership and was informed that there was a class action suit against gm motors. I was also told that my vehicle was not under the since my vehicle fell outside of the " approved mileage".i was told by another owner of a similar vehicles, was told to make a complain because the suite should cover the part for the life of the vehicle, which i hope is not 70k miles, because that is a lot of money to pay for a vehicle that only has a life span of 70k miles.
Speedometer is very sporadic it does not tell the right speeds it will jump to 120mph when im going 25 or 30 mph in my subdivision sometimes it just stop at 40 mph when im sitting at a light or stop sign also i've noticed a large amount of complaints online about this wandering why there is no recall.
Speedometer started performing erratically and inaccurately, and then failed altogether at just over 60,000 miles.dealer is reporting entire cluster needs to be replaced, and it is a fairly common occurrence.
I own a 2003 chevy tahoe. When driving the speedometer ceases to work, leaving me unable to determine my true speed. At times the speedometer shows no speed when i am driving, sometimes excessive speed when i am not moving. This occurs at least once daily, lasts from 10 minutes to all day.
2003 tahoe lt instrument panel - intermittent all indicators on 0reading...
The speed gauge was struck on 10 than 20 it stop working all together about two months go. Iam going to get it fix.
I own a 2003 tahoe and my speedometer just stop working.
I have a 2003 chevy tahoe and the gas gauge stopped working. The dealership says i have to change the cluster which is bad, this will cost $500. It is well known that there are problems with the cluster on these vehicles, i even received a letter from gm offering a replacement if it failed before 70k miles, at the time i had 80k miles and had no problem with the cluster, however it did fail at 98k miles. If they know there is a problem shouldn't they fix it without limitations on mileage. I also havea steering column shaft that needs to be changed, this will cost $250. I have already changed it, the dealership says that there were many issues with this part. The first fix was to change the shaft, which they did, then the second answer to the problem was to grease the shaft and then when that did not resolve their issues the current answer is to change the shaft again. Keep in mind this was their series of solutions to this issue on multiple vehicles, it is a known problem and now i have to pay to fix it.
Speedometer suddenly increase not indicating the correct settings.
Speedometer and oil pressure gauge failure on my 2003 chev tahoe. Chev has issued a limited scope recall with limitations to mileage or years. If there is a problem with this part, especially a speedometer it should be recalled and replaced.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the gauges on the instrument panel malfunctioned.the speedometer would display high speeds when the vehicle was stopped.the vehicle ran out of fuel because the gauge indicated that fuel was present.the manufacturer sent the contact a letter to have the vehicle inspected concerning these failures.she stated that it was not a recall repair, just an improvement.the vehicle exceeded the 70,000 mile limit that was referenced in the letter, therefore the adjustment was not free.the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 77,000. Updated 12-13-07.the air bag light had illuminated as well.
The speedometer/gauge on my 2003 chevy tahoe is malfunctioning.chevy is aware of the problem and issued a recall.i went to a chevy dealer today for repair and the service person explained that my vin is a part of the recall, but i do not qualify because the recall is for 8 years or 70,000 miles.i have 74,000 miles and i'm expected to pay $650 for this defect.it is my understanding that malfunctioning gauges can be a safety issue, and safety issues are not to be limited to time and mileage parameters.i should not have to pay $650 for chevy's defective product, when the defect is a safety issue for my vehicle.
While driving my speedometer is registering erratic mphs.sometimes going well over 120 mph while i am actually only doing maybe 65.and other times will be doing 65 and only shows 40.
Speedometer and tach on my 2003 chevy tahoe quit working.
Speedometer quick working properly. It registers at 120 mph at all times, even when in park.
2003 chevrolet z71 tahoe.speedometer gauge working erratic. Will read for example 70 mph sitting still or 120 mph moving very slow.
We purchased this vehicle new in dec. 2002. Starting in february, the speedometer acts erratically, sometimes reading higher than speed traveled, sometimes reading slower than speed traveled or being stuck all together. The vehicle only had around 43,000 miles on it when this started and only has 46,200 now. Right now the speedometer is stuck on 52 whether i am sitting still or traveling 70 mph.
2003 tahoe speedometer failure.
At the beginning of the year, my 2003 chevy tahoe lt truck, experienced different speeds according to the speedometer. At one point it said i was going 130 mph when i was parked. Then the speedometer stopped working all together. I also started to notice the other gauges, fluctuate. I was told by gm to get it fixed by a authorized dealer. I got the repair done for 491.00. I then called gm back, and they refused to pay for the fix, because i was "over the 70000" mile limit. I explained that this was a safety issue, as for a while i had no speedometer at all or engine temp or tach. Chevy refused to talk to me and simply told me it was my problem. I spoke to several people at gm and they all told me different stories and refused to listen and call me back. I am now stuck with the bill and gm doesn't care about the serious safety concern one bit.
Speedometer does not work, readings of 120 constantly.according to the web site topix.net there are about 450 persons who wrote about this problem.mechanics are asking $500 - $600 to fix this item.i believe gm should take care of this defect they created.
I have a 2003 chevrolet tahoe with 58,000 miles and the speedometer has started malfunctioning. It will appear to be jumping at times and also not moving at all. I could be traveling at 60 mph and the speedometer will say i'm going 25 mph, making the situation a safety hazard and needless to say a speeding ticket waiting to happen.
Speedometer registers inaccurate and erratic readings (70 mph at complete stop; 120 mph with movement, sometimes 0 mph with driving).this occurs suddenly and without warning, intermittently, but is becoming more frequent. It has not been repaired at this time due to expense quoted by dealership.also noted are inaccurate oil pressure readings (pegged pressure readings in high zone). It is not reliably affected by stopping/restarting the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the vehicle's speedometer has been displaying the incorrect speed for the past three months.the indicator fluctuates from 120 to 80 mph, even while the vehicle is not in motion.the dealer advised her to get a repair estimate.she was informed that the repair alone would cost approximately $700.the contact conducted research to determine if there were any recalls for her vehicle, but none were found.through an internet search, she discovered over 600 complaints for similar failures from other tahoe, denali, and yukon owners.the vin, engine size, purchase date, powertrain, and # of cylinders were unavailable.the vehicle was purchased from a private owner.the current mileage is 79,000 and failure mileage was 74,000.the consumer provided copies of online complaints pertaining to the same defect. Updated 09/05/07
Instrument panel gauges where going out around 60,000 miles. Was quoted around $500.00 at that time but could not afford it. Now 30,000 miles later i get this recall letter and they will not replace at no charge.
I own a 2003 chevrolet tahoe with 57,000 miles. Last week my speedometer started acting erotically. I was traveling down the highway at 50 mph, seconds later i checked my speedometer and it was reading 94 mph. At first i was shocked, but i realized i was still following the same cars in rush-hour traffic and it would have been impossible to be traveling over 90. By the time i got home the speedometer was stuck at 0 mph. Since then it has been erotic. The speedometer will register 30 when i'm traveling at highway speeds, or not register at all. I am not as concerned when i am driving the vehicle, because i can gauge my speed off the tachometer. My sixteen-year old daughter or my wife however is another story.if they are on the highway going 55 or 60 and the speedometer is only registering 30, they might increase their speed in error and travel much faster which could be very dangerous. This can have grave consequences if on a two lane highway with speed limited curves.i cannot believe with all the complaints logged about this chevrolet is not recalling, or repairing the defective gauge.i have been driving for over 35-years and have never had a speedometer malfunction.
Gauge cluster has failed in the vehicle, does not read speed correctly, oil pressure or engine coolant temp.
Received recall notice on instrument cluster.fuel gauge had been inaccurate since day one - thought this was my solution to the problem.joe holland chevrolet replaced cluster on 1-21-08.did not fix problem with fuel gauge.on or near 12-31-08, engine hour meter zeroed itself and started over.went to joe holland on 1-6-09 - explained problem and was told the person i needed to talk to was not there.they would have him call me.no one called.when back to dealership on 1-14-09.same story - person i needed to talk to not there.they will have him call.jim barnhart called later that day.he said the cost to check this out is $75.00.if problem is in cluster, they may be able to get the fix repaired under warranty.if problem is in any other component, i must pay for the diagnostic check and for any other repairs that might be needed.
2003 tahoe, speedometer will not register.
My concerns are the speedometer failure on my 203 tahoe. I searched this same problem on many web sites and there are thousands of reports on gm autos with the same problem. The cost to fix this failure is $300-$500. I believe this should be classified as a major recall by gm motors.
We own a 2003 chevrolet tahoe with approximately 85,00 miles. For at least a year we have been having problems with our cruise control. On several occasions following the disengagement of the cruise control, the speedometer will either continue to rise (up to 120 mph+) or fall down to 0 no matter how fast the vehicle is moving. The only way to get the speedometer working properly again is to pull over, put the car in park and then turn off the engine. On several occasions, this has taken 2 or 3 tries to get the speedometer to reset. We recently received a notification from chevrolet that "if this condition was occurring" we should bring the vehicle to the dealer for repair. The repair would be free if the mileage was below 75,000. We also called the chevrolet contact and were told that this repair would not be free since we were over 75,000 miles. My contention is that this is a huge safety issue that chevrolet should be wholly responsible for regardless of the mileage on the vehicle. Here is an example of the potential danger: i was recently driving my wife and children (ages 2, 4 and 8) in our tahoe to a baptism in lynchburg. I had the cruise control engaged at 60 mph. I disengaged the cruise control and the speedometer continued to climb to 100+ mph. I carefully pulled over and turned the car off. It took me 3 tries for the speedometer to return to close to 0. I started the vehicle and reentered the highway. The speedometer was reading 60 mph and the other cars on the road were flying by me. I quickly realized that the speedometer was again not working properly. We could easily have been plowed into by an oncoming vehicle.
Speedometer stopped working completely - serious safety concern with defect. Contacted dealership, was advised that they have had too many complaints about this issue and have had to start turning people away. They want $500.00 to fix problem but admit that this is defect.
The speedometer does not work.gm states that there is a defect and they will repair the speedometer motor, but only if the vehicle has less than 70k miles.mine did not break until 95k miles and i was not even aware that there was a widespread problem with these speedometers until it broke.
My 2003 chevrolet tahoe has a speedometer which exhibits jumping around, going 120+mph when sitting still and fluctuates erratically.it will not reset to 0 mph unless you start the vehicle's ignition repeatedly.most of the time, it still doesn't work after that.this problem has been sporadic since approximately 41,000 miles and now it doesn't work hardly at all (84,000 miles).i have had numerous electronic and computer issues since owning this vehicle with no help or concern from the local chevrolet dealers or gm.approximately $2,500 has been paid to them for these repairs thus far.the speedometer/instrument cluster repair estimate from a chevrolet dealership is another $1,000.many of the same complaints have been registered about the speedometer problem.obviously, there's a trend.
2003 chevrolet tahoe, 37,000 miles; speedometer stuck at 70-120 mph. I note for this complaint that an online website currently lists more than 16 pages, hundreds of similar complaints for the vehicle.all instances cited note refusal of dealerships to provide repair of this alarming and dangerous problem.i have two small children that i transport daily.i am printing a copy of this complaint and will contact an attorney if there is no remedy provided by the manufacturer.how much risk is acceptable prior to recall?this is an extremely serious problem!!! must there be an entry in the deaths and injury column before a recall is initiated?
(1) speedometer reads excessive or diminished speed(2) unable to safely operate vehicle - unable to safely gauge speed(3) no parts have been replaced to date concerning this complaint.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the speedometer dial sticks and displays inaccurate speed while driving 35 mph.the speedometer dial also sticks during deceleration and acceleration.the contact received a letter from gm that stated the gauges will flutter, stick, or become inoperable.the contact spoke with gm and they would not repair the vehicle due to the mileage.the current mileage was 110,603 and failure mileage was 76,000.
Speedometer not working correctly.shows 50 mph when stopped and 120 mph when on city streets.was working without any issues and then today it is incorrect.i have searched the internet and noticed this is becoming widespread.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the fuel gauge worked intermittently and displayed false readings.as of november 26, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle.the failure mileage was 17,527 and current mileage was 78,000.the consumer stated the problem didn't warrant further inspection. Updated 12/07/07
2003 chevy tahoe.since about 50,000 miles my speedometer and gas gauge have not worked properly.i have 90k miles now and i've been hoping for a recall.
Tachometer and fuel gauge are inoperative.
The speedometer in my 2003 chevy tahoe is faulty. Stopped in park reads 40mhp. Hwy speed reads 120mph. As far as i know, there is no recall as of yet. This needs to be addressed as there has been alot of complaints regarding this issue.
My speedometer is pinned at 120 mph, i called the dealer and they said i have to pay to fix it, it is a known problem with so many people complaining about this.
~6 months ago, my speedometer on my 2003 chevy tahoe went to 120mph and stayed there. I am unable to tell how fast i'm going and now my oil pressure gauge has maxed out. I had 105k miles on it at the start of the issue.
Today my instrument panel on my 2003 tahoe did not work when i turned on the truck.i did not know how fast i was going nor if i had any gas in the vehicle.i looked up on the internet and found a quick fix for it.someone had suggested pulling out the dic (driver instrument cluster) fuse, start the truck, turn truck off, then put the fuse back in and restart the truck again.it reset everything.thank goodness it worked, however it seems to be a bogus fix that appears to happening to many vehicles of this make and model.according to the chats it seems that many people are spending lots of money to fix this problem, luckily i found the cheap fix...i hope it works.
I have a 2003 chevy tahoe (33k miles) and the speedometer just broke this weekend. It now rests in peace to the extreme right of the gauge.in my opinion, this is an obvious danger to the driver because i cannot accurately judge speed.for the past couple weeks, when starting the truck i noticed an odd clicking noise that stopped once the engine was at optimum temperature. The speedometer had also been a little jerky during this time too. When i called the local dealership, they said the solution would be to replace the entire instrument cluster, which would be $400. I'm taking the truck into the dealership tomorrow to have it fixed and hope gm will refund the money i spent to have the item fixed in the future.this truck is only three years old and having this kind of problem is frankly purely defective in nature.
I bought a 2003 chevy tahoe in aug 2003.the speedometer started going haywire in the past month around 60-65000 miles.it sticks, jumps, and reads sometimes 30 mph off. It will even erad 10mph when stopped.i called chevy and they want to charge me 400+ to have it fixed. This is dangerousand gmc should take care of the problem.i received a speeding ticket a few months ago, saying i was speeding and i explained to the officer i was not and of course i still lost this conversation.so now i have to gauge myself with traffic to know how fast i am going.i will take it in to get fixed this week, since i have 2 small children, i cant afford an accident or any more tickets.i hope chevy will reimburse me.
Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the speedometer gauge displayed an incorrect reading of 120 mph.the vehicle was inspected by an independent repair shop, who determined the instrument cluster panel needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was alerted. Updated 12/28/2006 - the tachometer as well as the trip meter displayed incorrect reading.the consumer contacted the manufacturer to see if the part could be replaced under goodwill warranty.the consumer request was denied.
Speedometer on 2003 tahoe stopped working @ 32,000 miles.
Speedometer began to fail by fading to zero while driving.
Have had this tahoe since 2003, bought new.this past winter 2006at approximately 51,000 miles the speedometer started acting very erratic.sometimes registering the correct speed, other times not.as time went on it appeared that the temperature would effect it.would work on warm days, wouldn't work on colder days.it is now april, 2007 and it is not working at all.sitting still in my driveway it registers 60 mph.as of now it appears to be stuck at over 60 mph, and is not returning to zero under any circumstances.after reading the numerous complaints with regards to the same issue, it would appear that this is a factory defect.
I own a 2003 chevy tahoe and the oil pressure gauge started to malfunction.sometimes it goes way past the numbers that are on the gauge.also just recently, my speedometer began to malfunction as well.i was at a complete stop and it read 25 mph.i had to turn the truck on and off several times to reset it.i have spoken to several tahoe owners and apparently this has also happened to them.apparently this is not just a single case.i would like gm to rectify the problem since it is expensive if i pay for the repairs out of my pocket.
My speedometer will become jerky and show various random speeds (commonly 0 mph and 30 mph) while i am driving. This can be very dangerous when the speedometer reads a speed that is nowhere close to the actual speed that the vehicle is moving. (additionally, my fuel gauge sticks at various times.) initially, this occurred only a couple of times, but has now become more frequent. I have contacted my local dealer to discuss the repair of this defect and i was told that because my vehicle now has over 70,000 miles that i must pay the full cost of repair. As i believe that this is a critical safety issue, i feel that chevrolet should repair my safety defect regardless of mileage.
My speedometer starting reading incorrectly.over a couple of days it completely stopped working.in reading the owners forum for this model, it is very common.the instrument panel needs to be replaced.it is very costly.anywhere from $500 to $1000.it is not an isolated incident.very widespread problem.
Instrument cluster failure on 2003 chevy tahoe.speedometer failure.speed registers 60-80 mph faster than actual speed.chevrolet is aware of problem and has a "program" to replace on vehicles up to 80k miles only (increased from previous 70k miles).this replacement should apply to all affected tahoes, regardless of mileage, as it could present a safety hazard and certainly presents a vehicle inspection problem.the speed reading problem occurs daily, with each drive.
Speedometer will not reset to zero.continues to increase speed reading even when vehicle is stopped.cannot tell how fast vehicle is actually traveling.
For the past few years our speedometer on our 2003 chevy tahoe, has been fluctuating incorrect speeds. Some days it would say we were doing 120 mph while driving and even when we were in park.some days the speedometer would say 0 all the time.in the summer of 2007 in total stopped working, it does not move at all.since we never know what speed we are driving, we feel this is a safety issue.chevy feels it is not and will only replace this defective part in vehicles that have less than 70,000. Ours has more than this mileage on it so they said they don't care it is not a safety issue. I have spoken with numerous people who have chevy's other than tahoes and are younger that our vehicle andtheir speedometers do not work either. That is too many people on the roads that have faulty speedometers that do not qualify under there rules.
Around mid october of 2008 i financed the vehicle through a lot called auto concepts in jacksonville north carolina and the speedometer started raising to 30 mph sitting still around late january of 2009 and it will go all over the meter accept where it is supposed to. I will refuse to make any payments for speeding tickets as long as i am following with surrounding vehicles until my speedometer gets fixed.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. While drivingapproximately 65 to 70 mph, the speedometer displayed an inaccurate reading of 100 mph. The speed fluctuated regardless of the actual speed that the contact was driving. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer three times and the instrument panel was replaced. The failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was unknown.
Gauges in instrument cluster are failing.speedometer is jerky if it works at all. Oil pressure is pegged all the way to the right.engine temp is max.dealership wants to charge over $500 to fix.checked internet many others have the same problem.
Speedometer quit working. Spoke to dealer and they advised there is a bulletin for vehicles under 7 yrs old and less than 70k miles which my vehicles does fall under the mileage requirement.
-the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the speedometer functioned intermittently and the failure was progressively becoming worse. The dealer stated that there was no warranty and the contact would be responsible for repair costs. The current and failure mileages were approximately 129,000.
2003 tahoe speedometer displays inaccurate value.do not know at what speed vehicle is traveling.doesn't seem to be any common denominator as to what speed it displays and you don't know when it is accurate or not. This is scary!internet search reports a on going problem.what does it take to make this addressedand corrected?
Ihave a 2003 chevy tahoewith less than 41,000 miles on it. Speedometer doesnt work ,stock to 120 mph. I heard that some people who have the same problem about their instrument panel called chevy/gmc and admit that certain vins had defective cluster(including mine)yet they will not recall or replace unless the vehicle has less than 70,000 miles on it,but i called chevy and they dont admit about this but instead they suggest to bring my truck to a dealer to diagnose what the problem is with my own expenses.right now ive been laid off from my job, cant even pay my mortgage,bills.he.........llppppppp.
Gm models 2003-2007 light pick-ups and sport utility. Consumer states defective dash clusters.*tgwthe consumer owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. She stated she experienced a problem with the instrument cluster reading 70 mph also, the water pump failed.
Speedometer failure on a 2003 chevrolet tahoe:with approximately 50,000 miles, the speedometer became highly erratic and eventually quit working all together, but not before i had been pulled over for speeding. Luckily, the office dismissed the event after explaining the situation. I was told this is a common issue with this generation of tahoes, suburbans, and trucks, and would like to include my complaint about the gauge motor failure with the other one.
Wife was driving our 2003 chevy tahoe, which only has 51k miles.came to a stop at an intersection and the speedometer suddenly registered her as going 100 mph.the engine wasn't revving.she proceeded to drive and it registered her doing 120 mph, when she was really only doing about 35 mph.took it to local dealer and had the instrument cluster replaced at a cost to me of $500.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. All of the gauges on the instrument control panel have failed.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The technician stated that since the warranty expired, he was ineligible for a free remedy.the failure mileage was 110,000.
I purchased the2003 chevrolet tahoe in february 2004 at about 60000 miles the speedometer stopped working, later the rpms, and the fuel gauge stopped working.the dealership told me that they would have to send these components out and it would take a week or two, and the cost would be around $1,100.i have not had it repaired, yet, i am in the process of buying a second vehicle so that iwouldbe able to let the vehicle go for that long.i have noticed on the internet a number of this same complains . One website had 622 emails of complainsabout this same problem.this wasa manufacturers defect ,and general motors needed to take care of it. This could be a potentially dangerous problem.
I have two gm vehicles, a 2003 tahoe & a 2004 denali.both vehicles started having speedometer problems this week.standing still the speedometer reads 30+ mph, start moving & they are reading well over 120 mph.i no longer have any idea how fast i am traveling in either of my vehicles.this is unsafe & gm should immediately recall all affected vehicles & fix this problem quickly.i have 8 children & would like to know that i am driving at a safe speed at all times.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the components on the instrument panel work intermittently.there is a special warranty on the instrument panel for 100,000 miles or seven years.the vehicle is within the year requirement, but has exceeded the mileage.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 107,241 and failure mileage was 102,000.
My wife and i purchased a new 2003 chevy tahoe on march 17, 2003 from a chevrolet dealer in novato, california.approximately 10 months ago the speedometer began registering 60 mph while the car was not moving.this eventually changed to 120 mph despite the fact that the car was not moving and the engine was turned off.the speedometer never registered anything below 120 mph thereafter. We finally had to get it repaired as we never had any idea at what speed the automobile was actually traveling.we took it to the same dealership where the car was purchased to have it repaired.we were advised that the instrument cluster panel had to be replaced as there was no other way to fix the problem.this cost $359.88.when i asked to see the broken speedometer i was told it was not available as it had to be exchanged for the replacement.this car had only 53,600 miles on it when the speedometer was replaced.i have the invoice and would be willing to provide a copy at your request.i have never seen a speedometer stick in this manner in 35 years of driving.this is a dangerous condition as drivers of vehicles with this problem have no idea what their true rate of speed is.
Speedometer failure in our families 2003 chevy tahoe, i seen over 500 people on one website alone with the same problem. At over $500 the dealer wants to fix their lack of engineering i am sure there have been a few unneeded traffic tickets or at worst any accidents over this issue.
We own a 2003 chevrolet tahoe that was purchased in december 2002.as of november 2007, it has 82000 miles.a few days ago the speedometer suddenly stopped working while driving on highway.about 45 minutes later, after a stop, it began to work again.at the same time, voltage gauge on instrument cluster was pegged all the way to the right giving false reading of 19 v.later, that gauge corrected itself only to act erratically again.very unnerving to drive at night when the speedometer went out.in addition, we thought we were having alternator problems due to the faulty voltage reading.i have since taken the tahoe to my chevy dealership for inspection and they mentioned the recent letter from general motors detailing that this instrument panel cluster problem is rather common.we are now waiting to hear back from the dealership to see if gm will pay for the replacement since we are technically over the mileage allowed (70k) by gm.
Speedometer and/or tachometer quit working after about an hour's driving time.this is a safety issue and should be a recall.
2003 tahoe, approx. 86,600 miles.the speedometer needle no longer moves when i drive, it is stuck in the fully down position.i am going over 120mph sitting in my driveway.dealer wanted $300-350 to fix this problem because it is over the 70,000 miles that they are supposedly warranting this through now.even though it is not even a 5 year old vehicle.
My instrument cluster went bad while driving. I took it to chevrolet and was told there was a recall on the part but only up to 7years or 70, 000 miles. From what i know, gm was well aware that they made defective instrument cluster and don't want to replace them. I have 6 children to transport back and forth from school and practice,my speedometer not working is unsafe for my children.
The speedometer on my 2003 chevy tahoe begun working erraticly at aroun 43,000 miles and since quit working all together. My dealer said the problem is common bet not a recall. This seems odd being that this is directly related to the safety of the passengers of this vehicle as well as other drivers.
2003 chevy tahoe, speedometer stopped working properly. It gets stuck in you spot or on "0". I haven't call to get service cause it would cost to much. I received a legal letter regarding a lawsuit filed in california.no accident has occurred as of yet due to the problem.
Speedometer works erratically, false speed reading or completely stops working.
The instrument cluster is not operating oil pressure intermitent along with speedometer. 2003 tahoe has less then 28000 miles and out of warranty.
Speedometer failed on my 2003 chevy tahoe at about 56k miles making it impossible to tell how fast i was going.
My speedometer randomly quits working.sometimes it says my car is going 0 mph when it is clearly in motion.other times it says it is going 70 mph when it is in park.the trouble is i have to guess what speed i really am going and hope i am correct.this has been happening since october of 2008.currently i've not had it fixed because my mechanic was unable to diagnose the problem because it didn't happen when it was in the shop.
I own a 2003 chevy tahoe z71 and purchased the vehicle in 07/2005 with roughly 25,000 miles.as of 10/2006 my speedometer started acting erratic wherein it wasn't giving the correct speed of my vehicle.it has since completely stopped working and am seeking assistance in replacing the part to remedy this problem as i see while being on a forum (http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-tahoe) that amongst the hundreds and possibly thousands on this website are indicating their dissatisfaction with chevrolet/gm and their lack of assistance in remedying this problem.it's not just one specific make, but apparently will all makes ranging from 2002 to 2007.i would strongly suggest that chevrolet/gm listen to their consumers and remedy this problem immediately or they will surely receive a thrashing from the consumer by no longer purchasing their vehicles.the price to remedy this problem ranges from $550 to $600 depending on which dealer you contact to repair your vehicle.this is surely a nominal amount to a multi-million dollar company, yet would mean a great deal to their consumers.
We purchased our 2003 chevrolet tahoe lt on june 17, 2007.on june 19, 2007 the speedometer began reading 120 mph when the truck was parked.the speedometer failed to return to zero.additionally, with the onset of this problem, the fuel gauge and oil pressure gauge were reading inaccurately.parkland chevrolet was made aware of the problem and immediately diagnosed this as a defect in the instrument cluster that they informed me was quite common on gm vehicles of this year.additionally, i have found over 1000 posts on the internet where this same problem has occurred to other gm vehicles model years 2001 to 2006.we are currently awaiting repair parts for this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the speedometer displays the incorrect speed.when the vehicle was started, the speedometer read 90 mph.the cruise control was activated at 65 mph.the vehicle was pulled over by a police officer, who informed her that she was driving 75 mph.the dealer stated that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced.no repairs were made because the vehicle exceeded 70,000 miles.the failure mileage was 56,000 and current mileage was 84,000.
Speedometer malfunction stuck and erratic when driving.have no idea how fast we are driving.
Tachometer and speedometer failed.speedometer didnot display proper speed on highway.it read 0 when going 65 mph.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that when the ignition switch was placed in the off position, the key would not release from the ignition switch. The failure occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. While approaching a stop, the vehicle began to vibrate severely and the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle position sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was also taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 166,000.
Speed odometer on the 2003 chevyrolet tahoe was not working correctly.i have contacted several service departments, including the chevrolet dealership where i bought the suv.this wasso odd to them, some mechanicswere not even familiar with repairing this problem.it all started about a month ago, i drove out of town and noticed that the speed was not adding up, and finally it just went to 120 and stayed there.the dealership chargeswere outrageous, $400+.ionly had this vehicle for a year, i neededhelp because i have been contacted by several people with the exact problem and these are chevrolet tahoes, yukons, avalanches.all chevrolet or gm.we need help because this must be something that they need to look into and a recall should be done for us.don't wait until someone is injured or even killed.thank you, i am looking forward to hear from you.
My 2003 chevy tahoe got on fire after replacing a fuse that powers the cigarette lighter. I replaced the fuse and when i went inside the car i saw smoke coming from the inside of the dashboard and in less than 2 minutes i had flames commons from the dashboard.
I was at a traffic light, waiting for it to change, and all of a sudden the brake went all the way down and all kinds of lights in the truck were flashing indicating trouble. I managed to pull to the curve, put it on park, and noticed that there was fuel coming down from underneath the truck. I called aaa, since i am a member, and they towed the truck to my local mechanic. The mechanic inspected the truck and noticed that both the brake lines and the fuel lines were corroded. I happened to read online about other chevy owners that were having issues with brake and fuel line corrosion on the same model and year chevy tahoe i own.
Abs, brake service light comes, door locks cycle repeatedly, loses power and won't start.
I brought in my 2003 chevrolet tahoe to cutter chevrolet in honolulu, hawaii to report an "engine light on" concern.service advisor julianna parks reported that the issue may be attribute to (2) broken exhaust bolts on my vehicle's 5.3 litermfi iron v8 engine.cutter chevrolet is at 711 ala moana boulevard, honolulu, hi96813.in following up today october 18, 2017, shop manager brad eisen reported that these bolts breaking is not a common problem, and that there is no recall for such issues.cutter chevrolet has had my vehicle since october 01, 2017 and reported that in addition to my $500+ inspection costs, that my costs for repair thus far has exceeded $1,400.00 in their attempts to repair these broken bolts, and that they expect the final cost to be much higher by the time they are done as they have to contract a specialist mechanic from another town to come into the cutter chevrolet repair shop this coming saturday october 21, 2017 to meet with manager ms. Tina to do special work to remove these broken bolts.this is ripoff by gm to have such sub-quality exhaust manifold bolts breaking off.help!!!!gm needs to do a recall on this!
I am one of millions of 1999-2007 chevrolet v8 truck engine owners, who is told by their gm mechanic that the exhaust manifold bolt(s) has broken, leading to expenses ranging from $500 to $1,500.gm built the engines with substandard bolts that do not last in comparison to the rest of the engine and vehicle.one or more will break, which causes an exhaust leak and check engine light, and therefore the vehicle is out of service as it cannot pass state emissions tests.additionally, some of the exhaust leaks are near other sensors which can cause faulty readings or unsafe conditions.those who attempt to self-fix this gm-caused problem face unsafe conditions, as they are difficult to get to, require a welder to fix, may damage surrounding equipment, etc.the need for a recall is well-known and very large, and it is time for a recall on these, similar as have ford and toyota had recalls on similar issues.gm survived due to a bailout from taxpayers (many of them their own customers); it is time for gm to perform responsibly to a needed recall.in the picture, the broken-off bolt head is evidenced a few inches to the left of the rusty one that still exists, where there is an empty hole (the bolt remains stuck inside the engine, and requires boring out or welding something on in order to back it out).
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. While driving approximately 55 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart, but the failure recurred on multiple occasions. The dealer stated that the throttle body switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. While driving at 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the idle control needed to be reset. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 208,000.

On november 5, 2015, i took my 2003 tahoe in due to the fact that an exhaust manifold bolt had sheared off during the normal course of driving. I bought my tahoe new and have always had it service at the mccarthy-morris chevrolet dealership on overland park, ks. I realize that over time parts on a vehicle will break and at 118,000 miles i should expect to incur maintenance expenses. However, based on my research gm used a substandard bolt and this issue impacts millions of gm v8 motors. From a safety perspective, i had the repair done because i didn't want to risk having exhaust fumes entering the cab of my vehicle. My understanding is that this type of exhaust leak could have epa implications as well. In order to have the repair done, the dealership had to pull the head because one of the two bolts that sheared off was flush with the head and had to be drilled out. Total cost was $1,381.07. The sad fact is that after getting the vehicle back, it is running rough and chance are i will have to return it back to the dealership for additional repairs. I contend that when major repairs like this are done, the vehicle is seldom the same. It took 5 days to get it back do to the weekend. If the nhtsa won't take any actions over concerns about the exhaust leak, i hope some law firm might consider starting a class action suit. I have no issue paying for repairs caused by normal wear and tear, but this appears to be a defect that resulted from chevrolet using a substandard bolt.
Bought vehicle in february of 2009 used after driving truck for about 10 days we realized that the speedometer was not moving when the vehicle was in motion. Then after that the speedometer would move up in speed after driving the car for about 20 minutes but then stay at the 30mph when stopped once the car would begin moving again the speed would continue to go up from the 30mph mark resulting in the speedometer reading 60mph when the vehicle was actually only going 30mph. This has continued every day since it was noticed so when driving the car you never know how fast the car is actually traveling.
Engine knocks when it started after sitting for a while untill oil pump picks up.i personally know of five other 5.3 liter v8s that have the same problem, but my dealership has never heard of this .i find this hard to believe. A friend told me that there was a tsb reguarding a check valve of some kind that would stop this.
Gm models 2003-2007 light pick-ups and sport utility. Consumer states defective dash clusters.*tgwthe consumer owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. She stated she experienced a problem with the instrument cluster reading 70 mph also, the water pump failed.
While driving vehicle lost power.vehicle would not accelerate over 10 mph.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
"reduced engine power" message displayed 3 times within 4100 miles of brand new tahoe.on 4th visit, dealer replaced throttle body with a new one at 4366 miles.
I took my 2003 chevy tahoe into the dealership because of performance and gas issues and was told i had 2 broken exhaust manifold bolts.the repair was estimated to over $1000.i know that this is a major issue with gmc and chevy engines with many complaints.the manufacturer should stand by their product and fix this issue instead of making their customers pay for a defect that exists with their product.i was told that my vehicle would not pass safety inspection without this fix.
Ltr on behalf of, who suffered burns when their 2003 chevrolet tahoe caught fire while driving; they did not rec'd response to 3/23/10 ltr fwd to nhtsa; reply attn keith nelson/roseville ofc; es have no rec of prev correspond *tgwthe fan motor did not shut off even though the engine was turned off and the key were not in the ignition.
2003 chevrolet tahoe caught on fire *grthe consumer stated the fan motor would not shut off. The consumer stated her father received 2nd degree burns on his when tried to put the fire out.
Exhaust manifold bolts breaking leaving studs in the heads, heating up engine compartments, releases carbon monoxide, affects o2 sensor and catalytic converter. Will not pass emissions in some states. Gm not standingbehind this 1999-2008 issue. It is a safety issue and is expensive to fix. Gm mechanics denyingany such issues. Please check- in to this. Our whole fleet and our personal trucks affected by this.
We have a 2003 tahoe with a 5.3l v8. There is a hissing noise and a vibrating in the engine after running for about 15 minutes. The dealership can't fix it and doesn't know what is wrong with it. They think it has to do with the a/c but they replaced compressor and belt and it still makes the noise.
The reduced engine power light came on and reduced the car's power to only be able to go 20 mph.i did reach 30 mph with a down-slope.i was very scared and had my two children in the car.thankfully, i was able to safely pull over to the side of the road.upon researching this issue with my car make and model, it seems to be a common problem and a very serious issue.the engine's power just pulled back without warning!i am taking the car to be serviced tomorrow but cannot fathom to think what could have happened!
Vehicle experienced a total immediate loss of power while driving.*mralmost rear ended another vehicle at a high speed twice during the last break down on a busy highway. The consumer was very dissatisfied with the dealership help in assisting with vehicle. Please investigate
A scheduled oil change on my 2003 chevy tahoe revealed broken metal pieces.cormier chevrolet who is my service/purchase dealer determined that the debris came from 3 broken rocker arms.cormier made the necessary repairs under warranty, however, 3 months later the same problem manifested itself again.this time cormier replaced all 16 rocker arms, but i had to pay a $100.00 deductible.i feel the necessary repairs were caused by defective assembly and/or parts.especially when my vehicle is driven 98% of the time on local roads only, andhas just 35,015 total miles and was purchased brand new.
When starting the vehicle, check engine light comes on and dash says reduced engine power.vehicle will only drive about 15 miles per hour.upon researching this through various internet websites, this same problem has and is happening to a huge amount of 2003 tahoe owner's and it's always a faulty wiring harness problem - yet gm refuses to acknowledge there is a problem.on a side note, headlights have always been very dim.
The vehicle vibrated, which was due to a loose exhaust system.
Consumer statedvehicle rumbled and made noise while stopping at a red lightor stop sign.consumer tookvehicle todealer/mechanic 5 times, they replaced the muffler, but the problem was getting worse.
Consumer complained about excessive vibration. Nechanic replaced engine mounts/ tansmission, and intermittent steering shaft, but vibration continued. There was no final solution.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that he continuously heard a ticking noise whenever the vehicle was started. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnose that the exhaust manifold bolts broke off. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 196,000. Ever since purchasing my chevrolet tahoe lt brand-new in august of 2003, the muffler and/or the exhaust system has made an exploding sound both while the vehicle is runningand after it is shut off.at stoplights and after being parked, you both hear and feel explosions from under the truck.gm contends the sound is steam building up in the muffler and exploding, but admits it is not a "normal" backfire, and states that some tahoes do it, and some do not.they have released two separate fixes for the problem but neither has been effective, and the last one came out over a year ago.official gm policy prohibits replacing any mufflers/exhaust systems on vehicles exhibiting this problem - owners are simply told the explosions are normal.after much discussion, gm replaced my muffler, and the second one does the same thing.needless to say, it is an alarming sound and feeling to have in a new vehicle, and logic dictates that steam explosions inside a metal box can only go on for so long before serious damage is done (i.e. The muffler itself explodes near the gas tank.)i'm not sure what the nhtsa can do, but any help you can provide is most welcome.
Rear seat audio and temperature controls quit working.
Radio/ 6 disc systemi can't load or unload my cd's it plays when it wants to.
My tahoe has 59,000 miles we have replaced the radio 3 timesthe air conditioning pump once and now the fuel pump all lumped to about $2200.00 cash out of pocket .thanks chevy!
Purchased 2003 chevrolet tahoe on 1/13/2003.since then vehicle has been in services over 10 times for engine stalling out or for vehicle trying but not cranking.fuel pump was to blame at least 3, bad gas has been the blame twice, cpu brain twice and anti-theft system once.as long as vehicle has half tank of gas vehicle runs fine.

When i when to pull out of my drive way 3 or 4 weeks ago i turned on my left turn signal and the four hazards started flashing! it stopped and started back up again and now does it all the time!
The piece broke off the bottem latch to the frame on the seat for the 3rd row seating and sometimes the seatbelt want latch in back seat.dashboard gauge lights blown alot of inside gage lights are not working and heater/air stopped working on number 5 fan.
The speed gauge was struck on 10 than 20 it stop working all together about two months go. Iam going to get it fix.
One of the running/driving white lights has burned out and not just once. After replacing this bulb twice it only took a matter of a few days for it to burn out again. Many same style chevrolet vehicles (mainly tahoe, suburban, silverado, and avalanche) are the vehicles with this issue. On any given day i drive around town or out of town i notice atleast 10 vehicles with this same issue. If these lights are installed for safety reasons (particularly in the gray northwest) i believe both lights should be working as intended.
The parking light socket assembly is faulty. It is overheating resulting in damage and eventually ceases to operate.
One of the driving lamps fell off the vehicle while driving on the highway during the first 3000 miles on the vehicle.dealer reinstalled new driving lamp and stated that this incident was unusual.
The gas gauge reads 1/4 full when out of gas. Once on highway and once at home. Now i fill up at when gauge reads 1/2 full.
I have changed the fuel pump 3 times with in one year.
Car has troubles starting at a half tank.won't start when under half tank, even if there is gas in tank.
While vehicle was parked in my driveway - for approximately 30 hours - it lost almost 1/2 tank of gas.spouse (a mechanic for 25 years) identified an obvious fuel leak on the vehicle, but dealership inspection stated they found nothing, that there were no "codes" identified, thus no failure.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the speedometer would intermittently read inaccurate speeds. For instance, when driving 10 mph, the vehicle would read that the contact was traveling over 50 mph and vice versa. The contact had previously received notification of a manufacturer's extended warranty offer for vehicles experiencing the failure with less than 70,000 accumulated miles. The contact stated that because his vehicle was over 70,000 miles they would not be liable for the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 120,000.
Vehicle fuel system quit on hwy at 60 mph...i was able to get to shoulder of the hwy due to skillful driving. After cooling down the vehicle started was able to drive 20 miles when it quit again. This happened several times. Each time i was able to get off the hwy. Finally i had to get the tahoe towed to be repaired.
Hesitation in starting, vehicle registered no gas when it had full tank. Started in aug 2003 through july 2004. Was put in shop on 5 occasions, and was told nothing was wrong. July 2004 my vehicle wouldn't start. My fuel level sensor, andgauge were out. Parts were finally replaced but was told they would go out again without warning.
Fuel gauge is defective for about 1 year now.
I have a 2003 chevy tahoe.i've run out of gas on three occasions because the vehicle gauge on the dash will report the gas tank has 1/4 tank left, the vehicle digital range will report the same thing ,but the car runs out of gas.i have to fill up the vehicle when the gas gauge reads 1/2 full out of fear that the gauge is lower than it actually.twice i've run out of gas on i-295 in heavy traffic and was forced to negotiate a harrowing maneuver to leave the center lane of the three lane highway to get to the shoulder as the car was not under power.
The tahoe was purchaseddec. 30 2002.in aprilwewere driving 65 on the interstate.the tahoestalled, we pulled over put in park andstarted it.we drove about 13 milesit did the same thing.we called the dealership and took it in.they could find nothing. In june we were on the interstate driving 60 to 65 and the same thing happened.we had been home about 30 min. And my husband went to move the tahoe and it would not start.the dealership came to pick it up and kept it for several days.they told me it was the rubber on a fule filter in the gas tank that was closing up when it had pressure on it.once the tahoe died the pressurereleased and the fuel could flow through.
My tahoe has 59,000 miles we have replaced the radio 3 timesthe air conditioning pump once and now the fuel pump all lumped to about $2200.00 cash out of pocket .thanks chevy!
I have a 2003 tahoe chevrolet i have taken it back on two occasions. For a check because when you try to crank vehicle, it hesitate to crank it try turn over the engine. They replaced the fuel pump then the next day it did the very same thing.. Do you a a complaint of this ..this has been happening since i purchase the vehicle.
When i had my 2003 tahoe for only 6 months, my tahoe stalled in the road and had to be towed to the dealer. Well, they fixed it and they said it was a defective fuel pump.i would like to know if this has happened with other similar vehicles.also, i had to bring back my tahoe to the dealer last week because of a thumping noise in the steering wheel and they said that the steering wheel shaft just needed some lubrication. My concern is that i only had this vehicle for 14 months with 15700 miles on it and i already have problems. Could my vehicle be a lemon? please research about other 2003 tahoe's if they have had similar problems.
Engine starts and dies out. Sent tahoe to service 3 times. First problem occurred on 2-16-04. Second problem on 3-16-04, and returned on 3-18-04. Picked up vehicle and on the next morning, the vehicle would not start again. When picked up on the third attempt for repair, service department said it is okay to drive car, they had done a temporary fix ,and we needed to keep 1/2 tank of gas until general motors created a new fuel pump. Vehicle still not fully repaired.
My 3003 chevy tahoe fuel pump failed vehicle still under warranty. However with 29000 plus miles and after talking to mechanic. Techexplained to me that fuel pump is cooled by gasoline in tank and said to me this is a common problem with newer chevys i believe this is a defect what happens to us that own vehicle. Out of warranty we broke down on rt 93 passing lane and could have been killed thank god for not! i truly believe this is a safety concern that should be looked into.thank you.
Dt:the vehicle is a 2003 chevrolet tahoe z71 four-wheel drive.the intermediate shaft shakes and rattles to the point of having slack in it. He took vehicle to thedealer and they greased it.the second time they greased it again.the third time the dealership replaced the intermediate shaft because it was on a recall.consumer had to wait a year before they could get the replacement part. The problem has returned even after the part was replaced.the problem wasin the same area but, the noise was a little different and it was making a knocking sound. Consumer believed that it may be in the front end differential.consumer has not contacted the dealership.also, fuel pump failed. Dealership replaced the fuel pump.there were other problems, but consumer felt they were minor.
Dt:the contact stated the fuel pump malfunctioned twice.this happened while accelerating.the first time he was passing on a two lane road and the vehicle would not accelerate.the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they replaced the fuel pump under warranty.this happened again approximately two years later.the vehicle had to sit for a while then it started up. The vehicle only went 20 mph when the fuel pump failed.the fuel pump has been replaced a second time.

While drivingvehicle wascut off. Consumer had to coast tothe side of the road.then, vehicle was towed. The fuel pump was found to be defective.
My fuel pump failed and had to be replaced with less than 50,000 miles on the car.symptom was that the car would not start.a fuel pump should last longer than 50,000 on a new car or truck.i think the original pump was defective or there is a design flaw.
Twice the fuel lines have come off the top of the gas tank spewing fuel on,under and around the car. If unnoticed could cause a severe vehicle fire.

While traveling on the highway and without prior warning gasoline was leaking from gas tank.

While driving 65 mph vehicle stalled.consumer restarted the vehicle, and itwas towed to thedealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the fuel filter needed to be replaced.
No accident yet. Smelled gas so i looked under 2003 tahoe for leaks and noticed filler neck plus fuel linesalong with brake lines with extreme rust. I understand rust forms on all metals. But this is something you should find on twenty year or older vehicles. I am a licensed apr. And run a quality shop and have work on vehicles for a living for over thirty years and only see this on substandard or low grade materials.so why dothese lines have this problem?this is a safety issue that really should be addressed. I've seen other manufacturers recall much less problems why not this.if you price out these pieces for replacement you or your costumer better be sitting down. Parts are normally in stock. We all know they only stock what's sells regularly. Please again this is safety problem chevy should own up to.
While driving on the highway at 70 mph engine seized. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, whofound the problem was thefuel pump. Consumer was concerned that this was the third fuel pump replaced by the dealer within less then a year, and the problem recurred.

When i turn there is a popping noise that can also be felt in the steering wheel also when i am driving and feel a bump. The fuel will at times show a full tank then all of a sudden go to 1/4 tank it changes all the time and is not accurate, i cannot depend on it because i never really know how much fuel it actually has. The driver seat heater got extremely hot andwe will not use because are scared it might burn thru the seat since it already left a small burn mark. The problem with the steering wheel on this particular vehicle also did the same on another chevrolet we had and have researched online and it seems is a big issue with chevrolet vehicles.
High beam indicator lamp is too bright. Difficult to see past it to view the road ahead.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated after the tire blew they moved the vehicle to the side of the road and attempted to detached the spare tire, however it did not detach. The contact stated that the instructions stated that if the spare tire did not detach the latch mechanism was in safety mode. The contact called a tow driver and they attempted to remove the spare per gmc owners manual instructions however, they could not remove the tire. The tow driver called another tow truck driver, they cut the latch mechanism off the vehicle, and the tire was lowered. The contact stated that they were on the side of the road approximately three hours attempting to change the spare tire. The vehicle was taken to tire shop where it was diagnosed that due to the salt on the road the latch corroded. Ryan chevrolet located 911 hwy 55 buffalo, mn was contacted and the technician also informed the contact due to the state they were located in it was an inherent failure with the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified however no further assistance was offered. The contact stated it was not stated in the owners manual that the latch needed to be cut and the situational failure should be reflected in the manual. The failure mileage was approximately 285,000. Consumer stated this is what i'm concerned with after my truck was chauked and jacked up. This ridiculous use of wheel blocks, only made the vehicle less stable after it was lifted up by the spare tire balancing act!design problem updated 10/1/18
Rear glass hinge in 2003 tahoe ripping from hinge.window must now be forced sideways to engage locking mechanism to close rear glass hatch.lifting entire hatch effects the glass hinge as well.rt corner of window now protrudes above roof line and i am concerned this will "catch" during highway speeds and blow off as has been reported previously.local chevy dealership repair facility informed me this is common and they have repaired 2 that week for the same issue.they informed me that their repair statistics do not go up towards chevy corporate for trend and failure analysis.they referred me to the chevy customer service number.chevrolet customer service was called and they conducted a 2 hour investigation to determine hinge defects are normal wear and tear.current costs to repair are approx $1000.00.
Plastic/rubber attaching hinge on rear liftgate window cracked, separating glass window from body. Reported to chevrolet on 6/3/2010. They had me take to williams chevrolet to inspect on 6/4 and said they would call back that afternoon with a conclusion. Service manager first said adhesive failed, then part was missing that attaches hinge. No significant amounts of material are missing, two sides fit back together with a crack in the middle. Hinge does not appear to have any physical attachment to glass other than molded rubber that bonds to glass, sandwiching hinge in-between. Dealer inspected other hinge and found it to be cracking also. Chevrolet didn't call me back, i had to call almost daily and leave messages until finally someone called on 6/30 and said that this was not be a defect and general motors would not assist in resolving the complaint. The vehicle has less than 55,000 miles on it. I find a failure like this to too soon in a vehicles life and appear to be either a flaw in the fastener design or assembly.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the front passenger's side door independently opened whenever the power window device was activated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician failed to mention which part would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 73,430.
The rear passenger doors failed to lock properly. The dealer changed the sensor, lock system, and modules, however the problem recurred.
The speedometer have a habit of not working. I have heard of many others having this same problem.
Parking brake premature wearing results in vehicle that can roll down a hill and cause injury or accident.with 28,000 miles on my 2001 chevy tahoe, the parking brake will not hold.after paying the dealer to look at the problem i was told that the brake shoes were worn.i was informed that other newer model trucks have the same condition.the service tech said, "driving just 10 feet will wear them out."i informed i do not drive with the brake on.on perhaps 2-3 ocassions did i move with the brake on and once the chime sounded it was taken off.driving 10 feet is hardly acceptable.i contacted chevrolet about this built-iin requirement for service that makes the dealer happy and causes a major safety issue.they were not willing to make any "goodwill" gestures, citing this was a wear issue.*la

I've seen other manufacturers recall much less problems why not this.if you price out these pieces for replacement you or your costumer better be sitting down. Parts are normally in stock. We all know they only stock what's sells regularly. Please again this is safety problem chevy should own up to.
The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe.the contact's boat was connected to the tow bar of the vehicle.while driving 5 mph in reverse the contact attempted to activate the emergency brake and it failed.there were no collisions. There were no warning light indicators present.the failure mileage was 32,000.the contact did not have the failure diagnosed.
My 2003 chevy tahoe z71 transmission failed while driving.the transmission would not engage at all after the incident.vehicle had approx. 70,000 miles.the transmission was repaired at the gm dealership.i still have the parts available.gm dealer nor the chevy customer service line would acknowledge this as a issue on the tahoe.the incident occurred in a main road with significant traffic - it had the potential to be a safety issue as i was making a left hand turn when the incident occurred.4l60 transmission.
Pin holes keep coming in case causing fluid to leak causing loss of 4wd and eventually making it unuseable.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. While driving at 25 mph, the vehicle experienced delayed acceleration and would not accelerate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the transmission was slipping.the dealer stated that a new transmission was needed before it failed completely.the failure and current mileages were less than 47,261. Updated 12/16/08 updated 12/18/0
When the key was in the "start" position, the vehicle was shifted frompark.the consumer's 4 year child changed the gear and caused the vehicle to roll into a ditch.
Dt: the contact stated a device on the transmission broke due to cold temperatures causing the speedometer to be inoperative. The dealer informed the contactthere were no recalls and advised her to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer offered no free remedy.
Consumer complained about excessive vibration. Nechanic replaced engine mounts/ tansmission, and intermittent steering shaft, but vibration continued. There was no final solution.
On 12/27/06 i purchased my chevy tahoe 2003 i had complete 4x4 service on 12/14/06 as recommended by the dealer as required maintenance for 90,000 miles and to maintain the warranty.on 12/29/07 the vehicle was taken in for service for the 4wd service light on and noise when engaged in 4wd.diagnosis:transfer case control module.the dealer will not repair vehicle nor will easy care gold warranty cover repair.i was assured that the vehicle was in excellent shape for at least 2 years.
Child was able to move the gear position indicator. It could be easily moved from drive to neutral without depressing the button on gear shift. Dealership was called about the problem. Dealership stated that this was a normal condition.
While the vehicle was in the driveway and key in the accessory mode vehicle was able to come out of gear without applying the brakes. As a result, vehicle rolled forward into a fence.
1. Knocking in front end, intermittent steering shaft is out. I have been on waiting list since september 2003 and still not fixed.(in a wreck this component is what keeps the steering rod from projecting into the cab; per chevrolet mechanic).2. Sept. 2003 transmission: grinding/vibrating sound in the middle of vehicle (think this is my torque converter), neutral position from a complete stop and while driving. Been in shop on 2 occasions and still not fixed, mechanic says the vehicle computer doesn't show any problems, so they won't fix it!3.front differential leaking. Jan. 2004 to be fixed when steering shaft gets fixed!4. Passenger heaters come on by themselves. Nov. 2003 still not fixed5. Front driver's seat won't hold memory settings. Nov. 2003 still not fixed.
While driving the veh automatically switches into 4 wheel drive for no reason. Then the computer gernerated message center advises to service 4wd. This veh has less than 4000 miles on it and it has done this several times and been in the shop for this also
The consumer was informed the passenger air bag sensor wouldn't activate the air bags for 80 pounds or less, but it did when their 62 pound child was in the seat. *sc
While driving at any speed 4-wheel drive disengaged on its own.soon after, consumer engaged the 4-wheel drive anda service 4-wheel drive light came on.when 4-wheel drive light came on4-wheel drive disengaged. Dealer was aware of the problem, but could not resolve it.
Rear & third row seating seat belts do not attach all the time proper & outer casing of receiving end falls apart for no reason.
Well my air bag light stay on never goes over and my driver seat belt does not even lock at all. Then i keep hear this popping noise that come from hub and shocks and nothing on my dash works 1st it started off by i couldnt see what gear i was in. My driver seat u push the button to go forward it moves the seat back. My heat blower has something wrong with and it has something to do with this purple wire on the floor bored.now my truck cant get on the free way because every thime i get on the freeway and on the free way four more then 10-15 min my truck just shuts off. My heated seated only stay on for 1 to 2 min and then keeps shutting off. My back seats dont let down at all. Then at the bottom of my truck where the oil pan is for some reason there is always alot of oil all over at the bottom like someone just dip my truck in a big bowl of oil. Then when my ignition where the yellow black and red wire go to the top of my ignition the black plug is real lose and can't replace at all. And with everything on now with my income im already out of $5,000 already for parts and labor this is mu only car i have and i really need my car right now dont have money to go buy a new truck or car. I really need my truck it mean alot to me.
The rear seatbelt in my 2003 chevrolet tahoe allows me toinsert the metal buckle between parts of the buckle and the actual receiving end wich it belongs leading me to believe my children are safely buckled in.i had to stop suddenly and my four year-old child was thrown out of his car seat because the buckle was improperly fastened.because my child is in a booster seat it nearly impossible to reach over and visibly see whihc "hole" the metal buckle was inserted into.fortunately my son just experienced minor bruising, but it could have been much worse.
My control panel lights and heat and air control knobs are going out. My back seat seatbelt sometimes want latch and my 3rd row seating will not latch to the bracket.my stearing is bad it will not line up and thats just the begining of the problems that should not happen. My grandkids ride in this vehicle.
Dt:callerreceiveda recall on the seat loop in the second seat in vehicle, and the dealer could notfix it without keeping it over night. Caller didnot have recall number.manufacturer offered no help, caller was on phone with them for 45 minutes. Caller wanted a rental vehicle, but they would not give him one.
My wife and 3 sons and 2 other kids were on their way to a baseball tournament. She was stopped while a driver in front of her was making a u turn. She was hit by another driver in the rear mostly on the drivers side corner of our tahoe. That car went under our tahoe and knocked our truck sideways. The other vehicle that hit her was traveling at approx. 50mph. My 11 year old son was seat belted in the third row seat on the drivers side where the impact was located. Upon impact his seat belt came unfastened causing him to hit the seat in front of him.
While driving on the highway driver's side seat belt strap felloffthe shoulder during an accident.
My wife's 2003 chevrolet tahoe has a latching problem with the front drivers seat belt. Frequently the seat belt will not latch. It takes multiple attempts (as many as 6 or 7 attempts) to get the seat belt to finally latch. While this component has not completely failed yet, the likelihood of a complete failure appears probable.this component is a critical safety feature on automobiles and it's failure would probably result in death if the vehicle was in an accident while the seat belt was unlatched. The component is not something that should be subject to failure due to normal usage. The vehicle has 80000 miles on it. I have not reported this to my dealer yet. The obvious critical nature of the component led me to report this to you so that you may investigate if more people are experiencing the same problem. In 34 years of driving, i have never had a seat belt that would not latch including on my 36 year old gto.
Dt: 2004 chevrolet tahoe.the contactwas givenan appointment by my dealership to getrecallrepairs done, and when hewent to his appointment the part for vehicle was unavailable.the contact waited for three hours to get my vehicle fixed.the safety recall was on the second roll seat belts that heldhisdaughter safe inseat.was using theseat beltas required.
I had put my 6 year old son in the rear seat behind the driver, and when i went to fasten his seat belt around his booster seat the assembly that holds the seat belt in came completely off, it is a 4-5 inch bolt that screws into a mount at the bottom of the seat. It does not go back in, and the seat is now useless as there is no operable seatbelt.
2003 chevy tahoe with seat heaters.heater driver side comes on by itself and can not shut it off.seat gets extremely hot and i have been told by dealer that we have to replace seat module control cost $500.
Back seat behind the driver will not release to lay flat.we have had mechanics look at and only one was able to get it to release.as long as the seat is put gently back into upright position it will work.however, ifit is not, it won't budge.at this point it will not release.the other seat works okay for now but we are concerned it may do the same.we believe this is a safety issue.in an emergency we wouldn't be able to get people out of the third seat. Has there been a recall to fix the problem?what can be done about this?thank you for whatever help you may have.
Ihave a 2003 chevy tahoe and the drivers heated seat comes on by its self you have to manually shut it off.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 35 mph, the front driver's side seat warmer was activated and an unexpected high amount of heat penetrated through the back of the seat. The contact sustained a heat rash to her back. There was also a small burn mark on the seat back. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 174,000.
The cable system to lay down the rear 60/40 split bench rear seat is all messed up. Several of the cables have stretched and or broken off at their connecting points under the seats and in the back of the seats under the upholstery. To add to the problem, the tap pull to pull the bottom of the seat on the 60 side no longer operates properly in order to flip that part of the seat forward. These problems have virtually rendered the third row seats, and or the expanding of the cargo area useless. Not only has this problem rendered the middle and back of the vehicle useless, it is also a safety issue! this problem should be a recall on all these models before someone gets trapped in the back of the vehicle in the instance of a severe wreck, or god forbid a fire. Someone could get trapped and burn to death.
Cables for seat folding mechanism breaking, preventing the second row 60/40 seats from folding to allow access to third row seats (third row occupants cannot exit vehicle - safety issue).
The 2nd row seats will not open, preventing access to the 3rd row seats.this is a significant safety concern b/c in the case of an emergency the 3rd row passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle.it appears the cable mechanism that opens the 2nd row seats is defective.
My control panel lights and heat and air control knobs are going out. My back seat seatbelt sometimes want latch and my 3rd row seating will not latch to the bracket.my stearing is bad it will not line up and thats just the begining of the problems that should not happen.
The cable on the rear passenger seat is broken and can't get seat down to escape in an emergency.
The piece broke off the bottem latch to the frame on the seat for the 3rd row seating and sometimes the seatbelt want latch in back seat.dashboard gauge lights blown alot of inside gage lights are not working and heater/air stopped working on number 5 fan.
Dt*: the contact stated the electric driver seat moved forward on its own while the vehicle being parked entrapping the drivers legs under the dashboard and upper body against the wheel.injuries were sustained.the service dealer replaced the seat module.update 12/1/2006 -

I have a 2003 tahoe z71 with leather seats. My wife noticed a smell and thought it was exhaust. I drove the vehicle and it did not smell that way all the time. We finally found the problem by my wife getting burnt. Her seat heater was getting way too hot and produced a burning smell. It got so hot that it left a burnt mark on the leather seat and burnt her back and that's when we figured out that it was what was causing the smell. Be careful when you turn on those front seat heaters. Will report to chevrolet.
In nov. 2011, with 79,800 miles, while in my driveway, the brake pedal collapsed to the floor. Two front brake lines burst with no warning. There was almost no rear braking power at all. I had to push the pedal to the floor, before the rear brakes engaged and barely stopped the tahoe in my driveway at 5 mph. My 03 tahoe and my dad's 06 tahoe have the weakest brakes, of any vehicle we've ever owned. Love the tahoe-hate the brakes. I had the lines replace and had to replace the front calipers as well. The aftermarket calipers helped the weak braking problem a little, but there is still a design flaw somewhere.now in aug. 2013, with 90,200 miles, two more brake lines burst with no warning, while driving 25 mph, again with almost no rear brake power to stop. I barely missed crashing the truck. It's in the repair shop now and the tahoe needs several lines replaced, 2 that burst and others that are extremely rusted, obviously about to burst. The nhtsa needs to look at, not only the rusting brake lines, but also into the weak breaking system on these trucks, including why the rear brakes are so weak. Seems that about 90-95% of the braking power is the front brakes. This problem is discussed all over the internet. This is a serious problem on the tahoe, from 2000-2006, and this entire brake system should examined and even recalled, it's weak, dangerous and unreliable.
Driving at 35mph went to apply brakes and lost all brakes, this incident also happenedin june 2013. This is a known defect since the early 2000. Gm refuses to recall these vehicles in the northeast claiming its owner responsibility.since june 2013 i invested over $1000.00 in repairs. Had i been going a faster speed i could have caused a serious accident and seriously injured myself and others.
I started the vehicle on 2/27/13 to go to an afternoon wedding.brake light warning and sound alarm went off - no brakes.brake fluid had leaked all over driveway.thank goodness the brakes had not failed on the previous day when my wife had gone to a luncheon. Vehicle was towed on monday (7/29/13) to chevy dealership. Inspection revealed that all brake lines plus rusted front rotors and back plates needed replacement.currently being repaired at a cost of over $3500.00.rusted rear rotors were replaced a few years ago.as a long time chevy owner, i never, ever had a problem, such as this, with brake lines and components. This is a low mileage vehicle, for its age, and never driven in the snow or on salty roadways. I am very skeptical of purchasing another gm product if they insist on using inferior parts.
I saw fluid on the driveway so i checked the truck and discovered the brake lines were rusted and leaking.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. While towing a6000 pound trailer and descending down a hill at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly experienced catastrophic brake failure. The vehicle would not stop or slow down when the brakes were applied. The contact was able to drive into a field to eventually stop the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 60,000.
My wife was driving our 2003 chevy tahoe to the doctor's office without any warning brakes totally went out, god must have been watch over her because this could have been deadly, thank god for emergency brakes. Gm state that the vehicle will stop when the brake line give away will that bull [xxx]! this is the second vehicle that we have had brakes line go out on first my 2002 chevy silverado with 41000 miles on it and now our 2003 chevy tahoe with approximately 90'000 both within a week of one other. Also my stepson has a 2006 chevy silverado that the brakes went out on two weeks ago is a hospital parking lot that was almost devastating.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Returned to a friends from a trip to access my vehicle and head for home. Brakes pushed to the floor and when i tried to move a little, car wouldn't stop with either the brake or emergency brake and proceeded to roll forward into a steep embankment in front of my friend's home.luckily i was not injured but needed all the brakes repaired and drivers side door replaced.i am in the process of waiting to hear from my claims adjuster.
My brakes failed completely as i was driving home i was only able to stop by going up hill. The brake warning light did not go on until the brakes were failing.we had the car towed to our service station and had to replace the complete brake system.
While driving the brakes totally failed.pedal went to the floor with no brakes at all.vehicle had to run off the road and stop using the emergency brake.as soon as the brake pedal was pushed it went to the floor and then warnings light to service abs started flashing and beeping.there was no warning prior to the failure of the brake system.after the vehicle was towed we found that there was no brake fluid and a large rupture was found in the brake line on the drivers side towards the front of the drivers side door.
Driving on icy road anti lock brakes activated and brake line ruptured, adn was not able to stop.
I was driving on the highway, and a truck cut me off. I applied the brakes, and the pedal went to the floor.i was able to avoid crashing by pumping the brakes.i pulled off the side of the highway, and saw brake fluid under the truck.as i was only a few miles from home, i crawled home using the emergency brake. Upon further investigation, all of the brake lines ,from front to back, were rusted and rotted.i paid a mechanic shop to replace all of the brake lines with stainless steel lines. In all of my years of driving, i have never seen brake lines rot out after only nine years and 40,000 miles. I would like to be reimbursed by chevy for the replacement of the brake lines. A very serious accident could have occurred.and to think that just a few days before, i was driving with my family in the truck!
Front brake line blew out just as i was pulling in my driveway.i bought the truck used in july of 2015 the brake lines rusted and peeling
My wife went to start the vehicle by placing foot on the brake pedal. At start-up the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and she realized she had no braking power. I crawled under the vehicle to notice a significant amount of brake fluid leaking from very corroded brake lines. Luckily, we were two blocks from a repair shop. Once at the repair shop they advised that not only were the front brake lines leaking but all of the brake lines were corroded and needed replaced immediately. This repair cost me over $815.00 on a 9 year old vehicle. I've never had brake lines go bad on any vehicle i've owned.
Brake failure due to a rupture in the brake lines caused by rust.the failure was in the left front steel brake line.
Vehicle parked in my driveway, attempted to pull out of driveway and had no braking ability (7/12/12)all front brake lines replaced due to rust. Then on 2/11/14, had left um hospital with wife, noted something was not functioning properly with brakes but continued to a restaurant.when i got out of restaurant, attempted to pull out from curb and had no brakes.all rear brake lines had to be replaced due to rust.both occasions required a flatbed tow truck from aaa.total cost for repairs was $2050.74.
My 2003 chevy tahoe, due to premature corrosion my brake lines failed suddenly causing complete break failure. Thankfully i wasn't traveling at high speed so i was able to stop the vehicle safely and luckily my child and fianc weren't in the vehicle. This could have been a very fatal accident if i was at high speeds. Let's get this taken care of and make sure people are safe.
I have an 03 tahoe z71 200000 mile and brake lines are rusted out, now i have read over several hundred complaints on this vehicle ranging from 40000 mile all the way up to 280000 mile, even complaints back to where this truck was a few years old, why are you still allowing gm to mass produce these vehicles with no punishment with faulty brake lines. There where 2015 model silverado's, and tahoe with this issue. Demand a recall on this issue please.
Rear brake line burst... Fluid leaking and no brakes!!! this is dangerous... Lucky i was going slow when this line burst... Brake lines completely rusted.. This truck is only 10 years old, brake lines are rusted and needs to be replaced... Gm needs to use better steel...
Driving west on i-78 in nj. Went to get off the highway and the brakes failed without warning. The vehicle did not sufficiently slow down to allow me to enter the exit ramp. Used the transmission to help slow the vehicle and left the highway at the next exit. The repair shop replaced a rusted brake line. I drove a 1978 suburban for over 20 years with 250,000 miles and never had a brake line fail.
While driving vehicle the brakes became soft, brake warning light came on.when i tried to stop the brake pedal went to floor with no stopping power.fortunately i was able to slow down and come to a stop without collision or injury.brake fluid was dripping all over.taking vehicle to mechanic, but appears that brake line has rusted through and will need replacement.found information on-line that brake line rust through is under investigation on these vehicles as it is occurring more frequently.
Brakes failed at stop sign due to brake line failure corrosion.all brake lines and parts of fuel lines very rusty!! there should be a recall!!!!
While traveling on a 4 lane us highway, traffic conditions required a rapid deceleration from 55mph to approximately 10mph. The vehicle slowed normally, but the brake pedal traveled much further than usual. With the assumption that the brake pedal travel was due to the abs activation, the trip was continued. Approximately 3 miles later a downhill sloping exit was taken at approximately 50 mph, and when the brake pedal was depressed, the pedal went full travel to the floor, a red 'brakes' light on the annunciator panel illuminated, the driver message center read 'service brake system' and an audible chime sounded. The vehicle was not slowing rapidly enough for the space remaining so the parking / emergency brake was applied. The vehicle did not stop within the confines of the off-ramp, but fortunately, the traffic conditions allowed the vehicle to continue past the stop point into an adjoining road without causing an unsafe situation for other drivers. The vehicle was towed back to the owner's residence, upon inspection a steel brake line was found to be rusted through approximately 12 inches forward of the abs valve body. Coincidentally, three other lines in the same area were in similar conditions and will have to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. While driving 60 mph in rainy weather, the brakes were abruptly applied to avoid a collision. The brakes did not respond and the contact swerved to avoid crashing into the rear of another vehicle. The contact crashed into a ditch. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was not filed. The contact was not injured. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,000.
I started my 2003 tahoe up to drive to york and when i stepped on the brake the pedal went all the way to the floor.we took itdown the road by using the emergency brake to our local shop.they said all of the brake lines were rusted and all needed to be replaced.
Brake lines began to corrode at attachment points near all wheel wells.of most concern is 4 brake lines mounted with steel support brackets on drivers side front wheel well.these lines are not protected from environmental conditions.the corrosion began at the support brackets in 2006 and has worked its way down the lines to the point where they need to all be replaced.this is simply bad engineering---unprotected steel placed in the most environmentally vulnerable area on the vehicle and secured with corrosion vulnerablesteel clips.
Driving down a residential road approaching an intersection attempting to slow down and brakes failed, i was able to slow down enough(downshifting the transmission) to make a turn but not able to stop and narrowly avoided another car.
As i was backing out of my driveway ihit the brakes and the truck didn't stop causing me to hit my neighbors tree. .. The brake system failed with no warning or signal light or a sound.as i looked under the truck there was brake fluid all over the street.i called a buddy mechanic of mine and stated my brake lines are rusted out.
I was driving down the street at 10 mph and then went for my brakes and the but they were gone . Pedal went to the floor and bells started ringing and my warning system indicated (check brake system) bad brake lines.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated while driving 10 mph, the brakes failed.the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was applied.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and confirmed that the brake lines were rotten. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure occurred twice.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 263,000.
Brake lines are completely rusted out, and fuel lines, whole undercarriage is bad, brake lines fail with no warning, brake pad goes to floor.
Vehicle has lived in the garage for the last 5 years only driving about 1200 miles per year. Took it out yesterday to get it inspected and the brakes failed completely at the stop sign a few doors down. There was no stopping power and i got it stopped with the emergency brake. The brake lines look awful, completely rusted. The rest of the truck looks like it did the day i bought it new, perfect. I can't believe this happened. This vehicle saw high mileage the first 3-4 years but has been stored inside since that. It looks new. This should not have happened and could have cost lives. This vehicle has no stopping power what so ever. I see now that there has been an active investigation on this issue but no recall. Are you kidding me, two and a half ton vehicles with no brakes aught to concern you.
Metal brake line under truck burst . Looks like it rusted through. All other lines rusted also. Vehicle was parked in driveway.
Brakes line burst due to excess amount of rust under vehicle. Called dealer where it has been serviced for last 8 years. Service manager said he was well aware of problem and that replacement lines...not revised one but oem ones which will do the same again we're back ordered due to demand. He said a lot of clients were having their vehicles resolved and that replacement part could possibly be months to obtain..idiots and when is chevy going to do something before more people get hurt or worse?classictube.com has a stainless kit for $450. Replaces every part brake fluid runs through. We'll worth it for peace of mind. Hate gm for denying claim. Hope a lot of them drive same vehicles and learns about the life threatening issue first hand or has family affected...angry father, husband and owner.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, he depressed the brake pedal but the brakes failed. The contact avoided a collision by driving on a grassy area.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated that the brake lines were corroded. The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated while the brake was depressed in an attempt to slow the vehicle down it felt spongy and stocked to the floor board. The contact was able to avoid a near crash. The vehicle was towed to the mechanic for inspection.the failure was located in the brake lines which were corroded with holes that caused the brake fluid to leak. The vehicle was repaired and the steel brake lines werereplaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.the failure mileage was 31,349. The approximate current mileage was 31,500.
I own a 2003 chevy tahoe. I first begin having issues with the abs system in 2010. The brakes would flutter before coming to a complete stop. While traveling out of state the brakes completely failed and went to the floor. I was stuck in traffic in a residential area with passengers in my car. The parking emergency brake would not work so i had to carefully drift into a parking spot using the curb as a brace. I ended up having to replace all the brakes lines which were completely corroded. I was just told by my mechanic today that the pads, rotors, backing plate, parking brake system, etc.is all corroded and has to be replaced costing me well over $1000.00 dollars. I like my vehicle and other than the issues with the brakes it runs fine. But for such an expensive luxury vehicle to have this type of safety issue is completely unsatisfactory to the customer. To many manufacturers are cutting cost at the expense of customer safety and vehicle reliability. This matter has to be addressed quickly and a recall and/or help with cost is greatly needed.
The brakes failed approaching a downhill t intersection with a busy highway. A severe collision was narrowly avoided.
Noticed fluid spot on concrete below drivers side front door. Investigated further and noticed frame was damp. Jacked up vehicle and had brakes applied. Fluid now spewed from brake line where it is supported toframe rail. Contrary to gm's response to nhtsa action ea 11001 the brake petal went all the way to the floor so my estimation is i had no brakes not impaired brakes as gm assessed would occur. Had vehicle towed to dealer for repair. Long time chevy owner, they have cheapened the parts to a point where they have jeopardized driver and passenger safety.my assessment is the rusting brake line problem on "all" gm vehicles 10 plus years old that have even got close to some form of salt in their lifetime are ticking time bombs.my vehicle resides in georgia. Salt maybe once every couple of years.
Upon starting vehicle while vehicle was parked on a gentle downward slope, i stepped on brake pedal. Brake went to floor without resistance, red dash alerts lit up.upon investigation, brake fluid was seen leaking out from a rusted brake line located along the car frame in the vicinity of the driver door area.no sign of other damage was apparent at the time.digital photos of the leak area were obtained.
I had driven to a doctors office and parked in the lot. I came out, started the truck and when i applied the brakes the pedal went all the way to the floor. The brake warning light never came on. I had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The brake line on the passenger side of the vehicle rusted through and failed. I had the entire passenger side line replaced. On june 24th 2013, i had another brake line failure on the drivers side. I was going 40 miles per hour, came to a traffic light that turned yellow, applied the brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor. I went through the light and managed to stop using the lower transmission gears and finally the parking brake. The brake warning light never came on. I had the line repaired at a local garage. The line rusted through near the abs unit. The truck had just over fifty thousand miles at this time.
While driving down a hill with my kids in the car i went to apply brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I was able to turn my truckinto a side street and slowly come to a stop. When i got out i noticed brake fluid everywhere.i looked under the truck and the brake lines are completely rusted through. After researching this i see that this is a common problem and shame on gm for not notifying people of this serious safety concern and endangering my children's life!!
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while inspecting the vehicle, he noticed that the brake lines were corroded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic stated that the brake lines would have to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.the consumer stated when he backed up and applied the brake pedal, it went to the floor.the consumer noticed fluid leaking from the driver side front of the vehicle.
This is the first of three (3) occasions that a metal brake line on this vehicle has ruptured.the results were an immediate and complete brake failure.i have to let the vehicle coast to a stop while using the emergency brake to assist.i live in a rural area so in all three times i was very lucky that were light or no traffic.
Descending a grade approaching a t intersection brake peddle went nearly to floor. Cause was a severely rusted rear brake line. This line is routed above the left frame rail in a nearly inaccessible area, so the notion that this is an owner maintenance issue is garbage.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated while driving 35 mph and attempting to stop the vehicle by applying the brake pedal the brake line broke. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician diagnosed there was erosion on the brake lines and they needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 143,000. The current mileage was 143,050.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the cruise control was inoperable. The abs and the parking brake warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 172,000.
Exiting from the expressway with traffic light about 20 yards away, cars were stoped due to red lightand i am coming down hill exiting. Applying the breaks and the paddle goes to the floor, i rear ended the vehicle on the far right .
Hard metal brake line failure during emergency, high pedal pressure, stop.no injuries.the vehicle was unable to avoid entering an intersection, as the lead car.braking was firm, before pedal descended steadily toward the floor.pumping provided some friction, but was unable to restore a minority of the system's capacity. The failure was a hole developed in the line, along its path to the passenger front brake caliper.the brake lines showed alarming corrosion levels, which while potentiallyunderstandable for a 13 year old northeast outdoor winter truck, was a symptom of catastrophic potential.
Leaving my driveway brakes felt soft. Parked and pumped brakes twice and line that was rusted failed. Multiple lines that are rusted badly. No brake pedal what so ever.
While backing out of the driveway on a sunny saturday afternoon (june 4, 2011), i applied the brakes when approaching sidewalk and street.my 2003 chevy tahoe brake pedal went all the way to the floor with minimum resistance.the tahoe rolled past the sidewalk, out into the street, and up the neighbors driveway before coming to rest.fortunately the vehicle did not strike anything.i would estimate the braking capacity of the vehicle at 5%, as i drove it to the service station at 5mph in low gear about 1/2 mile away.tim lally chevrolet in bedford, oh determined brake failure caused by corrosion of the brake lines.all brake and fuel lines were replaced in a frame off restoration costing about $4,000.00 usd.
Just hooked up my boat and trailer and proceeded to head out my lane, when i hit the brakes they went to the floor and a message came on dash to service brakes. I got my wife to press on brakes while i looked under vehicle, brake fluid was pouring down on ground. When i saw the steel line was rusted and burst i wondered if this was a common problem so i looked for a notice or recall. I found that the problem was investigated several time but no notice or recall sent out if this had happened at highway speed it could have been catastrophic. I have had other gm vehicles that had severe rust problems. My avalanche was recalled after i had put all new rotors and brake parts on from rust. After reading of several other failures i cant believe gm didn't even send notices out.
1) 12/23/2014 - sitting in pharmacy rx drive-thru with foot on brake. Without warning, brake pedal went to floor. Assessed problem and determined brake line feeding rear brakes burst from corrosion. Fixed brake line next day.2) 1/27/2015 - ironically, sitting in fast-food drive-thru. Exact same as above occurred. Determined all 4 brake lines leading to the front of vehicle were split and corroded causing loss of fluid and full braking capability.i was fortunate (and lucky) that i was at a stand still each time this happened. Could have been catastrophic if i had been traveling at any speed. Especially with the size and weight of this vehicle.
When i applied my brakes as i backed out of a parking spot in my 2003 tahoe i heard a popping noise and when i applied my brakes a second time my break pedal went down to floor.i was able to crawl home as i wasn't far.took a look under car and all my brake lines are rusted and one for sure is leaking.my tahoe is as i type at a shop waiting on pricing for parts that can only be purchased thru chevrolet. I'm praying that it is not to expensive but the ballpark figure i was given is about $1000 to replace all four lines.debating of just having the one replaced and hopefully gm will come to their senses and recall these problematic brake lines.thank goodness i wasn't going any faster as my daughter was in tahoe with me.
As i approached a traffic light in town and prepared to stop, the brake pedal suddenly and without warning, went to the floor.i managed to use the parking brake to stop the vehicle within inches of the car stopped in front of me.the warning light on the dash illuminated indicating a brake system failure.it had never come on before.one of the steel brake lines running along the frame, approximately under the drivers door, has rusted through and burst.it was a miracle this did not result in a crash.had this happened at a higher speed or exiting a freeway ramp, i fear the outcome would have been very bad.
On september 3rd, 2012 i was driving my 2003 chevy tahoe and i had just pulled into a shopping center and as i was approaching a stop sign i applied the brakes. The brake pedal went straight to the floor. I went straight through the stop sign, but, luckily there were no other vehicles at the intersection. I was able to put the vehicle into 1st gear and guide it into a parking spot away from other vehicles. When i exited the vehicle and looked under the truck, i could see all of the brake line fluid pouring out of the brake lines. The tahoe was towed to my mechanic. During the repair, the mechanic showed me all of the brake lines and they were all severely corroded. Every brake line had to be replaced. There is no other corrosion on the vehicle.
Stopped at mailbox to collect mail. Braked, put vehicle in park. Stepped on brake pedal to place vehicle in drive, felt 'pop' sensation in the pedal. Brake pedal went to floor. Upon visual inspection, at least one line has ruptured.
Brake failure caused by corroded brake lines.incident occurred at boat ramp, could have easily lost truck in water.master cylinder nearly empty and no indication of issue prior to failure.the truck gives warning with low washer fluid but not brake fluid?mechanic repairing broken lines, but how soon until another has issue?
Complete failure of brake lines and calipers secondary to rust.truck (a gm tahoe) was inspected at the dealer one month ago and passed pa inspection.approximately 1 month later (1000 highway miles)my truck had to return to the dealer to rectify something they had previously been fixed, unrelated to the brakes. Upon picking up the truck after that repair, thebrakes were applied after starting the car to put into gear and the entire break system blew.thank goodness, the vehicle was not in motion because i would not have been able to stop.the dealer them put the car up on the lift and i was told the entire system was rusted, including all the bolts to the system.the only way to repair was to cut the entire brake line system off and replace.the rear caliper covers also began to rust, so they are also being replaced.i can provide pictures of all areas prior to repair.
Rear brake line rusted through and lost brakes.brake pedal went to floor losing 95% of braking ability.i wasn't in the car, wife was driving with my children.if this had been at a higher speed or going down a hill i shutter at what could have happened. Mechanic replaced 90% of the brake lines as he said they were in bad shape.thousand dollar job. My wife's highlander (other vehicle) has 175k on it, same year and we don't have this problem, i will double check them though.i asked the mechanic if he sees a lot of toyota's in here for brake lines, nope.they use better stuff with a special coating.mostly chevy, dodge, ford come through.you would think these manufacturers would know better with some states being in the "salt" belt.
I was sitting at a drive through waiting for food. Suddenly with my foot on the brake pedal, it started getting a mushy feeling and the pedal sank to the floor. When i got it home, i found there was a leak in one of the front brake lines which were rusted pretty badly. The next morning, i took the truck in to get the front brake lines replaced for just over $300. The rear are rusted pretty bad but my automotive shop said they usually don't replace them if they aren't leaking. I was very fortunate to not be dead or injured (along with anyone else) as i was on the high way earlier that night and driving around quite a bit. I heard there was an open investigation on this issue, so i wanted to offer my experience and inquire on why the investigation is still open and no recall has been issued? it seems like something so crucial to safety should be either more protected or be less prone to rust, even in the snow belt with all the corrosive salt on the roads. This is something the car manufacturers must account for.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. When the vehicle was started, the brake pedal traveled to the floor. The contact exited the vehicle and noticed brake fluid all over the driveway. The contact inspected under the vehicle and discovered that the brake line was corroded and leaking fluid. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed by the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Applied brakes to place vehicle in reverse to back out of parking spot.brake failure message appeared on instrument panel message display.brake pedal went to the floor and vehicle started rolling. No brake pressure was available to stop the vehicle.had to utilize parking brake to stop vehicle motion.
Getting on an interstate ramp i applied my brakes to reduce my speed.as i applied my brakes in a normal manner to slow down, my brake pedal sank all the way down to the floor.the truck wouldn't slow down or stop.i brought the truck to a stop my dropping down in gear and applying the parking brake. I pulled the truck over to the left shoulder (only shoulder available on this ramp) and stopped.i opened the hood and looked in the engine compartment and checked my brake fluid.didn't see any problems from that angle.i checked around the truck and noticed leakage of what appeared to be brake fluid coming out from the front, passenger side.i called for a tow to my preferredservice shop. After a day my mechanic called and said that one of my brake lines was fully rusted, had busted and was leaking.he said that upon inspection of the rest of my brake lines, they were all very rusted and in danger of also busting open.he recommended immediate replacement of all brake lines at a cost of more than $2,200.00.this vehicle is less than 11 years old.in all my years of driving, nearly 40 years, i've never seen a vehicle with rusted through brake lines at the 11 year mark.i believe the design is flawed and that using steel (corrosive) versus a non-corrosive material such as stainless steel is a "cutting corners" technique which put drivers at risk and into life threatening situations to themselves on onto others.i'd like to request that gm be required to issue a recall on this issue and that owners of these vehicles are either offered a no cost repair for the entire brake system or full reimbursement for repairs made to their vehicles to correct this clearly dangerous flaw.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. While drivingdown an incline at approximately 10 mph, the brakes failed and the vehicle accelerated to approximately 30 mph. The vehicle stopped at the end of the road on a flat area on its own. The contact also stated that thebrake pads, rotors, and master cylinder were replaced approximately one year ago in august of2016 by an independent mechanic. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired again. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
I backed out of my driveway and i started down the street. I got to the first stop sign in my neighborhood hood and when i pressed the brake i lost all pressure and my foot went to the floor. Upon further investigation, rite behind the driver side rear tire where the brake line is attached to a clip is where the line has a hole in it. The clip had worn a hole in it. The clip that holds it, has 2 pieces that are bend down that hold it down, and that's where the hole was worn into my line.
Was backing up to park and brake line ruptured sending brake pedal completely to the floor. I was able to safely park the car. When i checked on it later there was a puddle of brake fluid by the back driver side tire. Upon examining the brake lines a visible rupture could be seen behind the back driver side tire. The brakes lines had completely rusted out. Thank goodness i was already going slow don't want to imagine if i was on the highway and needed to stop.
While braking a little harder than normal to avoid hitting a deer, the brake line just below the drivers area blew and the brakes went to the floor and the service alarms went off on the dash. I was going down hill at the time but still had enough brake to stop. I was going about 35 mph at the time of failure.
My wife an i were traveling home from shopping as we approached a traffic light i went to apply the brakes the pedal went to the floor. I swerved to the shoulder of the road and put the vehicle in a lower gear. Passing three other vehicles in our lane and going through a traffic light. I was able to slow the vehicle on the shoulder of the road to a stop. Inspection under the drivers side door showed the brake line was rusted through. We had the vehicle towed home. The inspection there revealed the brake lines were rusted to the point you could collapse them with your hand. We could have been killed. The chevy dealer stated he had never heard of such a problem and said it was normal wear and tear.
Rusted brake lines resulting in failure of brakingsystem. Brake linesshouldlast longer than theservicelifeof thevehicle. Hence no brakelinesshouldeverbe madeout ofsteel. First incident occurred 9/05/2014. Second incident occurred 09/06/2015. First incident brake line was rusted and fluid pooled under truck. Brake line broke in driveway. Second incident the brake line was rusted and the truck was driving 20mph with children in the car on a busy street. There were no brakes to be used.
I was towing my rv (travel trailer) to a campground for labor day weekend festivities utilizing the heavy duty tow package that gm installed on these vehicles.i arrived at the campground and was driving to my campsite when the brake pedal went to the floor followed by a loud chiming and a warning light. I was going down a hill and the 2 ton travel trailer was pushing my tahoe as i tried to stop. I barely had any front brakes and no back brakes at all. I had to use the emergency brakes and use the gear selector on low to try to stop, which it finally did after much effort. It was labor day weekend so there were lots of people camping.there was a crowd of kids riding their bikes on the camp road in the drive path of my tahoe however the kids moved out of the way only when i screamed out of my window that i could not stop my truck. This incident could have caused death or major injury. Luckily it did not otherwise i would not be able to live with myself. I now have my tahoe at a local mechanic that i trust. He is stating that he has to replace all of the steel brake lines because they are all in bad shape and will eventually go. I am waiting to hear from him about how much this will cost me. I am a single father and do not have extra money to spend. My nerves are shot and that incident ruined our family camping weekend. I have nightmares that the kids on the bikes did not move and i ran them all over. I am definitely scarred for life.
Abs, brake service light comes, door locks cycle repeatedly, loses power and won't start.
While starting the vehicle, with my foot on the brake pedal, the brake pedal went to the floor. It was a short drive to the repair shop. The brakes worked poorly with a much longer stopping distance. I kept the vehicle in first gear and drove slowly. The repair shop said the brake line failed. I have owned several vehicles with many more miles and many years older and have never experienced brake lines rusting out like this.
I have not had an accident yet, butthe brake lines on this vehicle are badly rusted.since it is used to tow a boat, it could become unsafe to drive if the lines should rust enough to fail.a braking accident while towing a 3000 lb. Boat could be particularly nasty.the brake lines on this vehicle have corroded far more than other vehicles of the same approximate age.
I was advised by a gm technician during visit to dealer for regular maintenance to replace corroded brake lines if i intended to keep the vehicle.cost would be approximately $2,000 to $2,500 and that i shouldn't wait too long to do so for obvious safety reasons.service manager at this gm dealership stated that they have replaced a "ton" of them at owners' expense. My vehicle is never driven in snow or ice and i have never had to replace brake lines on any vehicle that i have owned over the past 50+ years - very disheartening.
I was on the highway when i had to slam on my brakes and the pedal just went to the floor i had no brakes at all. I was forced to steer into the ditch to avoid a collision. After having the truck towed home i discovered a brake line had popped due to rust. I understand this is an ongoing problem with these vehicles
Brake lines rusted out and leaked fluid resulting in brake failure
Brake line failure on 2003 tahoe near the spare tire.complete loss of brake line pressure. Vehicle only has ~ 84,000 miles.vehicle operated in ohio and massachusetts.reference existing nhtsa action number(ea11001) onchevrolet vehicles.
The 2003 chevrolet tahoe was driven on u.s. Highway 10, in minnesota, for approximately fifteen minutes on the incident date.the tahoe was taken home and, as it was parked, the brake line to the passenger side front brake assembly ruptured.it's interesting that the tahoe body and drivetrain is in good condition, not much body rust for it's age, but on further inspection it was discovered that every brake line has heavy rust on it.i don't know that i will be able to afford the repair of this tahoe.it is unfortunate that chevrolet used inferior materials in the production of the tahoe's brake system...the most important safety system on the vehicle.but, also, it's a shame that nhtsa has taken six years to "study" this problem and has not drawn a conclusion or forced gm to do a recall?it's government bureaucracy at its best...what a sham.
Brakes lines rusted out. Brake fluid expelled.
I was letting my mother borrow my vehicle and thankfully she was on a side street on her way home from work. She went to apply the brakes and the pedal went to the floor and she lost all brake power. Had it towed to a mechanic and they said all my lines are rusted threw and would like $1400 to replace them all. Unfortunately this is the second time this has happened and i think should be closer looked at by gm as we were lucky both times that we were not at high speeds were an accident could have occurred.
On the evening of july 13 my wife was driving the tahoe when the check brake warning light came on. She was able to enter our driveway and stop the vehicle. The next morning i checked the vehicle and there was no resistance on the brake pedal and the pedal went to the floor. Looking under the hood i found the brake fluid reservoir was empty. The mechanic that repaired the vehicle found the rear steel brake line rusted out.the vehicleis only 11 years old and has 116,184 miles and i feel that it is a bit premature for the brake line failure due to rust. I owned two chevrolet's and a ford product for over 20 years each and never had a problem with the steel brake lines.
I own a 2003 chevrolet tahoe z71 and recently experienced some problems with the abs.when slowing down, below 10mph, the abs kicks in randomly.this happens on clean, dry pavement.this is a frightening thing to happen to someone, especially someone who is driving around two small children.i did some online research and noticed this seems to be a common problem.i also noticed there was a recall for older vehicles that this was happening to and i wonder why the recall doesn't pertain to 2003 and newer vehicles.i would appreciate someone looking into this further and make some type of resolution to the problem.i do see a bulletin posted by chevrolet so apparently this is a common and dangerous occurrence.
This is a complaint about the abs.i have had them cleaned , which worked a short time, but now everytime i apply the brakes the abs tries to take over, lengthening my stopping distance.i do not feel safe using these brakes and would like to know how to disconnect them.these sensors may work fine in a controlled environment, but out in the real world of snow and salt , the life span is too short.
Wife and 3 year old child in vehicle when she applied brakes and heard a pop, brake pedal pressed completely to floor and vehicle had no braking power.vehicle was coasted to a parking lot where it stopped, no dashboard warning lights activated until vehicle was completely stopped and brakes where pumped by driver. Brake line under driver side of vehicle burst. Similar to nhtsa action number ea11001.

I had to have the wheel speed sensor cleaned 1and 1/2 years ago on my chevy tahoe.it recently started acting up again.then yesterday during a hard brake to avoid debris in the road the brakes failed completely. The brakes failed to stop the truck when depressed between 10-15 mph upon approaching a traffic light. This resulted in the truck rear ending another vehicle. All the dashboard warning lights and the check engine light started flashing an hour before the brake failure. Also, therewas a rattling/thumping noise in the steering wheel when turning. The truck was towed to the dealership, who together withinsurance company had to inspect the truck to determine the cause of the brake failure.
Anti lock brake concern:early this summer i had to suddenly stop on the freeway.it was dry pavement on a completely clear straightaway.the anti lock brakes went into play and the tahoe was somehow pulled us to the side.my wife said "what the hell was that""why".i felt the same way.had we been on ice or a wet surface this could have caused us to loose control completely.it almost felt like we were going to loose control.there is no pulling or concerns however during normal braking. Date below is approximately.
Right passenger wheel hub failure on owner's 2003 chevrolet tahoe with abs light illuminated on dashboard with grinding noise from wheel. Hub replaced by chevrolet dealer, and informed that driver's wheel hub needs replacement too. There is a technical service bulletin (tsb) on the issue by chevrolet, which does not consider this a safety issue, even though the hub has the potential of shearing off at speed.

Popping sound in steering.chevorlet tried to fix the problem by lubrication on two occasions, but symptoms returned.
Clunking noise and feel in steering - loose steering.
When making a right turn vehicle loses power steering. Doesn't happen all the time comes and goes. If you give vehicle a little gas it will start working again but that's not always an option. I notice it most if my vehicle is moving at a slow rate of speed or stopped. This is a very dangerous issue and no one can seem to offer any ideas on fixing it.
Had knocking in front end fixed at dealer. One year later returned. Something in the steering when backing out of driveway. Told it was not unsafe to drive. With all the complaints, i am surprised gm is doing nothing about this.
The steering locks up when i turn left in my 2003 chevrolet tahoe.if this had happened during an evasive maneuver the results could have been catastrophic.i haven't had it fixed yet, but i don't believe it was the result of damage done by me.
Purchased vehicle in 04 with less than 20,000 miles.within a few weeks, heard popping noise from front end and could feel a vibration when driving.tokk vehicle in for repairs, added lubricant to front end and noise/vibration stopped for a few months.repeated the lubricant proces two more times.now replacing tie rods.
Jan 24, 09 vehicle was traveling n on co 145, preparing to turn left onto co 184.driver heard a "pop" in the steering column. When she began the turn, the steering wheel would not turn. She then performed an emergency stop and came to rest near a guardrail in an oncoming traffic lane. She backed the vehicle out of the opposing lane and turned the steering wheel to the right. The steering wheel then released and she was able to turn onto 184 and exit the roadway. The steering wheel anti-theft lock no longer operates, and it appears that this device has failed. It also appears that pieces from this device became lodged in rotating parts of the steering system.
There a noticable shaking when it coming to a stop and sometimes it will turn off.it also turns off when making a right / left turn and sometimes even when truck is running. There a click noise then turning.also window's will get stuck and will not go up completely and now the left side windows are completely dead (do not go up or down).
The steering made popping noises and the steering felt loose.the dealer replaced the steering shaft and front suspension. The vehicle rolled over twice and the air bags did not deploy.*tc
While making a right hand turn down a hill out of a parking lot i heard a noise that sounded like something broke on my vehicle. Went home about 6 blocks away looked to see if anything was wrong. I only looked at the front end; didn't see anything. A few days later while pulling up to my driveway in a different vehicle i noticed something hanging under the rear end of my tahoe. Proceeded to check it out and found that my sway bar is completely broke where it's mounted on a bracket. I researched this and have found that this is a common issue with my make, year.
My 2003 tahoe z71 has always made popping noises when turning and you are able to feel it in the steering wheel also.i have researched online and it is very apparent that this is experienced by almost everyone. Today i was backing into the driveway with a trailer of mulch attached and when i cut the wheel, the steering was lost. There is fluid in the power steering reservoir and there was no leaks or fluid anywhere. I looked underneath the tahoe and there does not appear to be any broken sway-bars or steering shaft. I am not sure if it is the pump which would be strange in the manner that it gave out but reading all of the issues others have had, i can't believe that gm is not fixing the situation. Someone is going to cause a serious accident trying to turn and it is going to give out like mine (& everyone else's) did and cause a head on collision. I called gm & although there are 9 tsb #'s associated with this issue, there is still no recall or help on the resolution of the problem. I think it is time to sell the tahoe that i bought brand new btw and move on to a new ford truck as they seem to have really good trucks now. It is sad because i have loved my tahoe z71 and never thought i would get rid of it. The steering has never been right on this tahoe since day 1 and gm knows it but buries their head in the sand about it rather than do the right thing and fix the issue. Mine still looks brand new but the popping noises when turning has always irritated me & now that it gave out, i am done with it. I am thankful that mine occurred when it did and not when i was traveling down the road with 6 yards of mulch in a dump trailer and making a turn that could have killed me and someone else coming the other way. Fix your known issue gm, before someone innocent dies because of your negligence!!!
2003 tahoe power steering failed while making a left turn.the input shaft from the pulley had come off.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 25mph a clunking noise came from the steering shaft.afterwards, the steering wheel and accelerator pedal vibrated.the vibration and noise occurred while driving straight or coasting, not while making turns.the problem occurred in january 2005 the first time.the dealership replaced the steering wheel shaft, which remedy the problem until now.the vehicle has not been inspected for the current vibration.
Popping noise from under hood, mainly when turning left (has now started when turning right). Almost sounds like the wheels are going to fall off. It can also be felt in the steering wheel. Feels very unstable, like front-end could fall apart at any minute. Gm is aware of this problem and has been since 2001 (nhtsa item #10009991, #10010873, #10000950, #10004991, #1004239, #10005172, #10004723, and finally their "fix" #10025148) . However, they act as though they have never heard of this problem. I have researched this online (edmunds.com, yahoo...just search for i-shaft assembly) and this is a wide-spread problem on numerous gm/chevy/cadillac vehicles and gm should be forced to remedy this situation. This situation is as-much, if not worse than the electrical system/dashboard panel problems, that gm has recalled. Please, help the masses who have been sold this defect. Before someone is seriously hurt.
Steering loose/wobbly since buying vehicle.in for repair numerous times.at first told something was leaking, then replaced steering shaft thing, then told it was just the way the tahoe drives.this week was told they "tweaked" the alignment and were going to push it beyond what chevrolet normally recommends.picked vehicle up and they had put two new tires on rear of vehicle in addition to alignment.i don't trust the steering and since they still say that is just the way it drives, not sure why they keep repairing things if that "is just the way the tahoe drives".
Steeringgoes out when braking and making a right turn or when trying to maneuver into a parking place , to hard to turn the wheel with no steering power very dangerous. In traffic. No one seems to know why or how to fix the problem.
Intermediate steering shaft play.this problem causes shaking in the steering wheel.dealer lubricates the steering shaft and this is only a temporary fix.the problem will resurface and you will have to return to the dealer again.this is very inconvenient and you should consider this when purchasing this vehicle.this has also occured with my other vehicle a 2003 gmv sierra.i have heard this from several other owners of the same type of vehicle and i feel general motors should fix this problem instead of putting a bandade on it.
*sc
I have replaced the i-shaft 2 times on my 2003 tahoe. Gm is not offering any type of replacement or help in fixing this issue
*sc
Gm is aware of a steering and suspension problem but will not fix the problem there are already multiple complaints and it will probably take a fatality to recall these issues.
Continuing problem with the steering shaft of my 2003 chevrolet tahoe.steering shaft and front end "popping" and looseness continue even after replacement.dealerships know about this problem and have been instructed by gm service to no longer replace the steering shaft as this "fix" is not working.they are currently unsure how to fix the problem.in the mean time owners have a vehicle that drives as if it is going to fall apart in the front end.the tahoe handles badly over rough road and cornering making it difficult to steer at times especially at hi-way speed.
Dt*: the contact stated there was a rattling noise in the steering column while driving at 50 mph.the vehicle was towed to a service dealer, where they determined the steering had locked.the vehicle has not yet been returned to the contact. Updated on 05/16/2006-
Consumer 2003 chevy tahoe had a problem in the steering that caused an accident. *sc
2003 tahoe developed a noise in the steering.***no answer required***. *mrthe consumer was told be chevrolet there is currently no fix for the problem.
Thumping noise in the steering column. Started at approximately. 24000 miles.dealer replaced steering shaft (pn 88963611).at 32000 miles the problem has returned. Gm does not have a permanent repair for this problem.chevrolet will not cover this problem after the manufacturers warranty expires.consider this before purchasing this model truck.
The steering has popping and pining when turning left or right almost sounding as if the wheels are going to come off of the tie rods, suspension. You can feel it in the steering column. Hard steering.
I bought my 2003 chevy tahoe in october 2006, and within 3 months after i had it the steering shaft was vibrating terribly, made me very nervous as it felt loose. I took it to our local mechanic who checked it out and assumed there may be a recall but there was not so he stuck a bunch of grease in it and it was good. That lasted about 6 months and again in another 6 months or so. I have had it in 3 times for this issue and have to pay each time to get the steering shaft greased and i think that is ridiculous. This is a top dollar automobile so one would think these problems would not be an issue. Very disappointed.
Shortly after my year warranty on my 2003 chevy tahoe i had a knocking noise in the steering column. Chevy put heavier grease in it. The noise has returned shortly after and has continued to this date yet in 2007. If you google search this problem you will see many people have the same problem even after steering columns have been replaced. When will chevy fix this problem for consumers.
Steering column rattles/knocks.
Steering column makes loud grinding noises and vibrates while turning wheel.i have taken it to be repaired/replaced 4 times in 3 years and chevrolet doesn't think this is a problem.as someone else stated, once your warranty is over you will get no help from chevy.one time they replaced my drive shaft, but the problem still exists.i'd love to see a recall as that's the only way i'll ever get the thing rectified.
Steering wheel feels loose. Thumping noise from stering wheel. Also loud cracking noise from front suspension when turning in driveway. Loud cracking noise from lower front windshield especially at freeway speeds.
2003 tahoe, speedometer faulty, sometimes doesn't register at all sometimes too low, and sometimes to high. Steering box going bad nothing gm will do.
Intermediate steering shaft.when driving down the road the steering wheel has play in it and when going over bumps the wheels clunk.i took my tahoe in to have it looked at in sept.the intermediate shaft was ordered then.i still do not have it fixed. They are on back order.with 178,00 needed in the us.i have taken the tahoe back in to have it greased to make it stop clunking again.it works but only for a short time. I am a mother of one and have another on the way.this is my only mode of transporation and i am not comfortable with it.
Consumer complained about excessive vibration. Nechanic replaced engine mounts/ tansmission, and intermittent steering shaft, but vibration continued. There was no final solution.
Intermediate steering shaft, very noisy, could not get part due to back order.so they packed it, part finally came in,and it was replaced under warranty in january 2005.same problem is occurring now, dealership techniciansaid he could not hear it, or see it, i do not believe they had my car in the back long enough to really look, i drove with it for weeks, i know it is the same problem, and i know the parts are hard to get, why isn't this a recall.is it safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.when driving at any speed or on any road condition the steering wheel vibrated.the dealer acknowledged the failure, but only performed a temporary repair by applying grease to the intermediate steering shaft.the dealer stated that there wasno remedy to permanently solvingthe failure.the current mileage is 51,000 , and the failure mileage was unknown.
The steering wheel shakes and feels like it going to separate from the column and fall off.this is due to a design flaw in the immediate steering shaft that the manufacturer is aware off. The manufacturer's remedy for the problem is tolubricateand tighten the steering. Thisfixes only last 5000 miles. The immediate shaft was replaced, but the problem recurred.
A dull thumping noise was heard starting a couple months ago.it occurred any time the steering wheel was turned, even the slightest.very annoying!as it got worse i took it to my local chevrolet dealer andwas told it needed a "supplemental steering shaft" (part #88963611/shaft). That part is on national back order andi was told by the dealer's service dept that it may take four weeks to get it.
I have a 2003 chevy tahoe. The steering linkage is making a noise when you turn. The dealership told me it was a design flaw on all gm vehicles for a 5 year period. They would not replace the part at no cost because it was not a recall. I have a fear the linkage may fail.
The owner heard a "clunking" sound when backing out of driveway.while traveling on freeway, the owner noticed some play in the steering wheel and tried to pull over.the truck failed to respond to the turning of the steering wheel.the truck was looked at by a mechanic who stated that the steering linkage had failed.*mr*jg *nlm
When vehicle is traveling straight or in a turn there is a slight bump in the steering wheel almost like the steering wheel is lose.
This complaint was received via e-mail.heard some noise in thesteering from the day he bought the 2003 tahoe when turningsteeringwheeland when backing out of driveway. The clanking noise only startedabout 4 weeks ago,and became worse quickly. The clanking noise could be feltthrough the steering wheel at slower speeds, especially whenturningsteering wheel. It felt like something was loose.took vehicle in for service on 1/03/05 with 28,400 miles, anddealer knew immediately what the problem was. They said it was a common problem with this model. In fact, some people reported this problem as early as 5,000 miles. They removed the steering shaft, packed it with grease, and the clanking noise stopped. When not under warranty the repairs would cost between $75- s100.researched the problem on the internet and foundmany similar complaints. The consumer was told a steering shaft was needed, however it was on back order.

This situation is as-much, if not worse than the electrical system/dashboard panel problems, that gm has recalled. Please, help the masses who have been sold this defect. Before someone is seriously hurt.
You can not lower the spare tire, under the vehicle, this is a big problem and i am not the only person with this problem, the part that holds the spare tire has a spring loaded lock on it that cannot release because of a bad design off it,their is a video on youtube about it (good information about it) you need to cut the tire down with a cutting torch, this is a bad idea around a gas tank, i can not express how mad i am right now because i can't even think of that many cuss words, and it is going into heart a tack mode, i would love to meet the engineer that designed this, and have him change the tire, first you need a tow truck then a shop with a lift then two mechanics if not three and you then need a transmission jack to put upward pressure on the tire to release the tension of the locking device that holds the tire, after you let the air out of the tire, i can overhaul the engine and the transmission and anything else that need to be done to this or any other car,but this is a big big mistake in design, can you imagine a lady having to change a tire on the side of the road!!! if a mechanic (male or female) cant do it,how can the average consumer, do it? and why hasn't this been a recall,i know why it hasn't because people are forced to pay for it and forget it,well i bought the vehicle without looking for this problem because my wife and daughters and sons have all been properly trained on how to handle this problem, but it can't be done on this vehicle or any other chevyvehicle of this make from what i understand, you can not do this safely,no i don't have a flat tire either i was just explaining to the wife that it may be a little different so i wanted her to see it just incase she had a problem and she would be prepared on how to handle it (wrong) it should take ten or fifteen minutes to do, can't be done, and i can't believe it please contact me.
My paint is popping off in large and small areas.
Right hinge on rear hatch debonded glass loose.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the dashboard on the front driver side front dashboard fractured. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The contact was informed that the dashboard fractured due to the age of the material. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 69,000.
While traveling on the highway air comes though the side door. Please provide additional information. Dealer is aware of the problem. *nlm
Hatchback locked and will not open.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe c1500. She noticed that the rear lift gate glass was loose and made a noise whenever it was opened. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the failure was located in the lift gate hinge. The dealer replaced the lift gate assembly and glass with a newly design lift gate. The failure mileage was 84,000 and the current mileage was 87,000.
One of the plastic hinges to the rear lift gate/rear window of my 2003 chevrolet tahoe separated, and now the rear window does not close properly.the vehicle is less than five years old with approximately 55,000 miles.this is a kin to a passenger door coming apart.i do not believe that it is reasonable for a door to a vehicle to fail after the limited amount of use it gets, and the age and wear to the vehicle.the dealership, gordon chevrolet (tampa, florida), told me that the whole lift gate/rear window would have to be replaced because the part (15847109) is one unit.the cost is an incredible $855.55 for the part, $96.98 for labor, shop supplies, and tax which brings the cost of replacing chevrolet's defective part to over $1,000.00.
This a brand new tahoe with the regency conversion, initially it would vibrate at any speed.there's a shimmy feel to it, it was been test driven by the shop foreman it oursman chevrolet in wheaton, md., he hit a pothole and this handsome suv never recovered from the vibration.they have road force balance the tires twice, but the problem still exist.they put on a new set of tires, road force balance them.the problem (vibration) is mostly noticeable at highway speeds now.i don't feel safe and confident in the vehicle, particularly when changing lanes and it handles horribly over bumpy terrian and the such.i have file the lemon law complaint, sent a copy of my complaint to the attorney general's office in baltimore.my request for a replacement has been denied.the only avenue i have now is bbb arbitration. Help!!does anyone know what's wrong with my truck?
While making a right hand turn down a hill out of a parking lot i heard a noise that sounded like something broke on my vehicle. Went home about 6 blocks away looked to see if anything was wrong. I only looked at the front end; didn't see anything. A few days later while pulling up to my driveway in a different vehicle i noticed something hanging under the rear end of my tahoe. Proceeded to check it out and found that my sway bar is completely broke where it's mounted on a bracket. I researched this and have found that this is a common issue with my make, year.
The tires on my vehicle wore out completely to fast even though i did what the manufacturer recommended with rotation and balance. The new replacement tires are doing the same as the original. In fact they will not stay in balance past 300 miles. I feel the suspension on the vehicle is the problem. The manufacturer was questioned and they were going to replace the original tires at about 26,000 miles but then turned around and said the car was out of warranty. I have records to indicate the care of the vehicle was taken.
*sc
There a noticable shaking when it coming to a stop and sometimes it will turn off.it also turns off when making a right / left turn and sometimes even when truck is running. There a click noise then turning.also window's will get stuck and will not go up completely and now the left side windows are completely dead (do not go up or down).
During light braking and steering, the front end suspension seems to pop and rattle as though something is loose.
The steering made popping noises and the steering felt loose.the dealer replaced the steering shaft and front suspension. The vehicle rolled over twice and the air bags did not deploy.*tc
Steering wheel feels loose. Thumping noise from stering wheel. Also loud cracking noise from front suspension when turning in driveway. Loud cracking noise from lower front windshield especially at freeway speeds.
Front end shakes like something is loose.the dealer made some repairs to the vehicle, but the problem still exists.
I recently noticed that a growling noise was coming from my left front wheel. After extensively researching the problem it was noticed that my bearings have failed. Gm has tsb information on this as they know it is a problem but are not willing to assist me due to the age and mileage on the vehicle. I think if they have a service bulletin they should honor the problem found initially. Should complete failure have occurred it could have been fatal.
All tires or cupping, tires have been serviced from day one by firestone dealer. Out side company checked front end and allignment and all was ok. Tires have been rotated by firestone dealer 3 times 6000, 10000, and 16000 miles, there or17800 miles of tahoe now. There is a warranty on tires for 12 months from purchase but i can't get firestone dealer or chevrolet dealer where i purchased tahoe to help me at all.
Speedometer sticks and can get caught can go all the way up to 120 mph when not moving.the only way to get the speedometer back to zero is to start the car and stop the car and the speedometer will drop by 5 mph each time.i have asked several people who drive tahoes and denali and they have the same issue. I have a 2003 chevy tahoe 5.3 v8.brought the car to dealer and it is always back to zero by the time i get to the dealer and they cannot reproduce the issue. Unable to rely on speedometer for accurate speed always questioning if it is reading properly.
I own a 2003 chevy tahoe! my speedometer just stop working one day when driving. It will stick on a 120 or 35 or sometimes it wont move at all. I do have a picture of being parked and tahoe shut off and its showing 120. Something needs to be done..people can't afford tickets for going over and under snd i also have the tow pkg and own a pop up and really scared to travel with it. Cant afford the 600 they it will cost..cant get into a non chevy. This is my first chevy i bought and think it will be my last. .gm step up and get this recalled.
The piece broke off the bottem latch to the frame on the seat for the 3rd row seating and sometimes the seatbelt want latch in back seat.dashboard gauge lights blown alot of inside gage lights are not working and heater/air stopped working on number 5 fan.
My air bag lights are always and 4wd lights are i took my truck to a transmission specialist they replacethe transfer case for the 4wd but light remain on and i stiil feel the shift from 2-4 i took it back to the specialist again and again still the same problem
My acceleration pedal engaged and ran thru center block fence. No airbag on either side....thanks a lot.....driver.
Driving on interstate when speedometer began to act erratically.slowly but surely speedometer went from cruising speed up through the 120 mark on the vehicle and remained fully pegged in the black portion of the gauge.all driving now requires drivers judgment on speed since speedometer is inoperative.speedometer can settle as low at 40 mph, but quickly sky rockets again once driving commences.no corrective actions could fix the speedometer malfunction.not knowing the speed of a vehicle presents an inherently dangerous situation and screams negligence and liability.force chevy to fix this before someone dies and they learn the hard way.
I have a 2003 chevy tahoe, as i was driving on the highway i noticed that my speedometer was acting eractic, with the needle stating that i was going 120 mph down to 0 mph within seconds. I immediately stopped on the highway, and noticed that the needle stuck at 70 mph while i was idle. Now the needle in my speedometer is stuck at 120 mph.

I purchased a new battery for my truck and now whenever i get to a stop sign or red light it goes dead. I don't understand. Everything was fine before i put in another battery. Also, while driving the speedometer needle was higher than the speed i was going and the fuel needle showed more than actually was in the truck.
Speedometer seems to be working fine, then gradually goes to 0.when car is restarted, works fine again for short period of time.this is a safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. The vehicle was diagnosed by the contact and it was found that the throttle position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000.
2003 chevyrolettaho.speedometer not working correctly. At times the speedometer will register speeds that are between 20-70 mph in excess of actual speed, and at others will register speeds that are 10-40mph below actual speed. Other times the speedometer appeared to read correctly.operation is jerky at all positions.the actual speedwas unkown since this instrument cannot be trusted.this has been happening off and on every couple of days for 5 months.
Speedometer is acting up. It rests on 40 mph,and shows that i am reaching 110 mph.when i am only going 60 mph,and vehicle only has 45,000 miles,i consider this a major safety issue on a 2003 vehicle.
- the contact called regarding the 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that thespeedometer would work for approximately 30 minutes into the trip, and after thatit would showless mph than what he was traveling ,eventually going down to zero.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by a repair shop.the failure mileage was approximately 45,000, the current mileage was 58000.the failure occurred 10 times.

Speedometer quit working shows no speed or wrong speed all of the time.
2003 tahoe, speedometer faulty, sometimes doesn't register at all sometimes too low, and sometimes to high. Steering box going bad nothing gm will do.
The speedometer have a habit of not working. I have heard of many others having this same problem.
The speedometer on mu tahoe will say that i doing 60 and the car is in park. Overtime the problem corrects itself and then it happens again. It is something that i feel is not anyhting that i have done to the vehicle. It happens approximately every 2 months. The incident date is the most recent date that it has happened.
Speedometer erratic, typically reads 20 mph over actual speed.other times, does not function at all.
Speedometer failed with less than 30,000 miles on the vehicle. This problem was widespread on tahoes, suburban, and pickups. A recall should be ordered and repairsshould be paid for by general motors.
Dt: the contact stated a device on the transmission broke due to cold temperatures causing the speedometer to be inoperative. The dealer informed the contactthere were no recalls and advised her to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer offered no free remedy.
Speedometer says i'm going 110 mph and i've got the engine off.i cannot safety drive my vehicle not know how fast i'm driving.this must be recalled by gm!
The chevrolet tahoe speedometer has been broken and i could not get any assistance from chevrolet customer service.they will not acknowledge any problems with the speedometer.
At a stop consumer's vehicle lunged forward, hitting the vehicle in front.consumer pulled over, and had the vehicle towed. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
There a noticable shaking when it coming to a stop and sometimes it will turn off.it also turns off when making a right / left turn and sometimes even when truck is running. There a click noise then turning.also window's will get stuck and will not go up completely and now the left side windows are completely dead (do not go up or down).

Contacted dealership, anddealership said they knew of the problem , and i would have to pay 50% to have window hinge fixed ,and that this problemwentback to the 2000 model vehicles. This plastic hinge kept rear window from closing. Contacted the manufacturer. The consumer talked with customer service and did a report,i.d. I own a 2003 chevy tahoe lt, on friday january 21, 2005 the back lift gate window of my tahoe exploded for no apparent reason.i was unsure of what happened since i was driving on a major freeway at the time.houston police department was called since it sounded like a shotgun blast to my window.hpd informed me it appeared to be a malfunction of the window.i took the vehicle to the dealership where i purchased it (norman frede chevrolet) in webster texas.the service manager inspected the window and informed me this was the third tahoe in which the back glass exploded in this manner.i could have had a serious accident, and thank goodness i had no passengers in the back of my vehicle.i feel this is an issue that needs to be investigated if there have been 3 of these incidents at 1 dealership, surely there are others.

The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the roof is leaking and water settles in the passenger side sun visor.when he turns the vehicle, water falls into the rear air conditioner control panel.the dealer replaced the rubber drain tube, but it did not correct the failure.the leak is now causing the sun visor's electrical wires to loosen.the vehicle had to be detailed for the mildew smell.the dealer stated that the control panel will need to be replaced, however, they would not repair the vehicle because the vehicle was previously repaired elsewhere and it is also out of warranty.the current mileage was 54,159 and failure mileage was 600.

The crack is about 1" by 1". What steps do i take to fix my windshield and/or get reimbursed for this.
