Traffic stopped in front of me unexpectedly, i swerved to avoid car in front of me and hit concrete wall. Air bags did not work. My face hit steering wheel, causing injury to nose and mouth.

On januray 23. 2004, i was rear-ended on the freeway. I was going about 65-70 mph. A person hit me fromthe rear, he was travelling around 100-110 mph. I lost control of my tahoe, i went sideways, then i shot forward and hit the center divider( on the center right side of my car)at about 65 mph or faster, i was shot backwards into a guard rail and came off ofthat and then the tahoe rolled on to its side, skid for about 30 feet and then it finally stopped. My air bags(front nor side) never depolyed. I feel that if they had my wife nor i would have been injured. I know that they are designed to deploy when you hit sometime like a brick wall at about 10-15 mph. What do you call hitting a cement divider at over 65 mph.

Takata recall

I was driving my 2002 tahoe about 30-35 mph when i blacked out and lost control of the vehicle. I hit a column outside a hotel which was about 2x2 feet with steel within the center of the column. My truck was a total lost and the front airbags did not deploy as they were supposed to.

On my wife's way home form work she was involved in an accident, were she rear ended another vehicle, the crash was at about 35 to 45 miles per hour and it affected the front driver side of our 2002 chevy tahoe. The impact was so significant that the frame of the tahoe was bent. The crash pretty much mimicked the same off center front crash that the insurance institute for highway safety conducts on their testing. The problem was that the front airbags never deployed although the accident happened unexpectedly, my wife was wearing her seat belt and didn't sustained serious injuries. Our concern is that the bags never deployed and that they might deploy at anytime. The auto body shop recommended by our insurance company told us that because the crash impact was off centered the airbag sensor were never triggered. After seeing so of the insurance institute for highway safety test the bags should have deployed. Also it was determined that the frame has to be replaced and all the body parts fixed and replaced. If the frame has to be replaced how safe would that vehicle be?i am open for any farther conversations about this topic. Thank you.

While driving swerved to miss another vehicle and lost control, rolled over four times. Upon impact, airbags didnot deploy. Driver injured and vehicle totaled.please add vin.

I was driving my 2002 chevy tahoe, a gentleman ran a stop sign, i hit him at 39 mph, head on in my tahoe, t-boned his truck.neither airbag deployed, nor did my seatbelt keep me from hitting the steering wheel and my head knocking me out.gm sent someone to look at my car which has been deemed a total loss.i have yet to hear back from gm on this incident.i purchased this car brand new thinking it was safe.the one time i needed my seatbelt to work, it failed.the computer in my car showed both seatbelts were on and in working order, it showed the crash was at 39 mph yet the airbags did not deploy and they were in proper working order.whatever answer gm gives me will not be good enough unless they admit to faultiness in their equipment.

I was traveling down to freeway, doing about 65-70 mph. I was rear ended by a guy going between 100-110 mph, i was thrown out of control. I hit the center divider almost head on at about 70 mph. I then bounced off the divider, came clear agcross all lanes and hit the rear guard rail, i bounded off that and rolled on its side. In all my air bags never deployed.

On two occasions the front air bags failed to deploy upon front impact.the vehcile was inspected by a crash investigator who told the consumer that the vehicle operated as designed.*nlm

The air bag sensor light stays on .consumer is concerned that the air bag will not deploy upon impact.

During the past seven years, at random intervals ranging from days, months and years, my tahoe will not start. I have had it checked by a chevrolet dealer and an independent automotive shop. They are unable to replicate the problem. This happens when i stop the vehicle to get gas, park it to go shopping or to a doctor's office. I never know if it is going to start or not. I fear for the safety of my wife and son when they are operating the tahoe in case this happens to them. At first, i thought it was just my vehicle. But, researching the internet today, i find that countless others have had this problem with a variety of gm and gmc vehicles -- primarily suvs and pickup trucks. There are even videos by drivers who have had the same problem as i have experienced: the vehicle will not start. After waiting anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour and continuously trying, the vehicles will start like nothing was wrong. I've had aaa mechanics whom i've called to tow my tahoe witness this malady.i firmly believe gm/gmc should issue a recall and repair this problem before something tragic happens to someone who cannot start their vehicle when they are in a dangerous situation such as at night or in an intersection.

It started on oct. 15, 2013, i went outside o start my truck and it would not start i had to get a jump for it to turn over. It happens everyday. I replaced the battery as well as the starter recently. I have to put it on charge every other night since something in the electrical system is causing it to drain. I have yet to find out what. There is nothing left on at night or when i park it during the day. I am trying to find out if there is a possible wiring issue that is causing something to kick back on & run when it is not started. I have heard other people complaining about the same issue for the same year tahoe that i have; but there seems to be no one addressing it.

Purchased the truck brand new in 2002 and have had nothing but hell from it. We've had several issues, several breakdowns and stranded moments on the highway due to something malfunctioned in the fuel system that even chevy couldn't figure out.it's been unreliable and given us hell the entire time we've owned it. We've dumped thousands $$ into repairs in the last 15 years. Most recently a new transmission after it went out on us towing a small trailer with a tow package that couldn't tow.we've dumped enough money into this truck to have purchased another truck brand new. On 3/28/16 the truck spontaniously caught fire and burned down while unoccupied and parked in our driveway.to add to the hardshipwe had just reduced the insurance to liability after carrying full coverage for the past 15 yrs. The truck is a total loss and now we are without transportation!! what happened chevy?

Went to start car so i could pick daughter up from a basketball game(11:30 p.m. On a friday night) and the truck would not start. It would turn but got no fire to it. The following morning it did the same thing to include the monday morning. Had it towed to dealer, it started on the first try when the tow truck let it down. They check it out, told me it was my fuel pump. Charged me $645. The following week (sunday, the same thing occured again and i took it to another dealer on monday and they checked it out, put it on the machine and no problem was noted by the machine. Service manager suggested that it could be the sensors because about every 300 miles or full tank of gas, it has started doing this. Suggested i bring it in next time when it does not start to see if they can detect the problem. Christmas day, it did not start as we were on our way out of town for a family christmas in another state. It did start the next day (sunday) and was fine for the week until today (new year's eve). Again, had it towed to the last dealer and they checked it. It did not start the first time but it did the second try. Asked if i pumped the gas while trying to start it. I did not and they checked the vehicle out and again put it on the machine and it did not detect anything wrong. They asked that i make an appt. For thursday so they keep it over night and see if it will start for them.all dealers were chevrolet dealers. No additonal parts were placed on teh vehicle. Have steady oil changes, tire rotations and any and all services done in a timely manner.since dec 6 (first incident) it has not cranked on me 3 separate times.

Due to the error in the fuel gauge(indicating more fuel than the vehicle had) the vehicle ran out of fuel on the interstate with my entire familty on board. This could have been a serious accident as i was unable to exit the freeway and was not given a low fuel indicator light. This error in fuel level could have resulted in serious injury and i request a oem recall to correct gauge or sensor errors, our fuel gauge is still not displaying accurate readings, we do not trust the gaure anylonger. We have also seen "wild gauge swings/listings" at random intervals

Turned a/c on and heard a rattle then a thumping sound.a/c still worked for two days then the a/c belt broke. This was a brand new belt. Mechanic replaced belt, drove across the street....compressor locks up and breaks the belt. Mechanic contacts gm and finds out that the fan clutch could go out, send a signal to a/c compressor causing to lock up.replace fan clutch, replaced belt....again noise then belt breakage. The compressor is working then locks up for no reason. Putting in a new compressor, new belt, and the new fan clutch remains.

I am the original owner of a 2002 chevrolet tahoe that experienced abs cut-in at low speeds in dry weather in 2005 and was recalled under campaign 05v379000 / nhtsa action number : pe05020.the cut-in problem has recently returned, with exact same symptoms as before. I called gm as the original recall no longer appears to be in effect, but they do not appear to be willing/able to cover any repairs against that recall despite the corrosion treatment and lubrication obviously not being a permanent fix.other gm vehicles impacted by the abs issue and which are still in service will begin to experience similar failures and nhtsa and gm need to recognize the original issue has not been resolved and take action.

When the a/c fan is turned on..it begins to make a fluttering noise the whole time you are driving.( very loud). I have had to a/c belts to break because of this fluttering. The compressor must be locking up.

2002 chevrolet tahoe drivers seat heater shocking driver and burning holes through the seat and leather. This occurs whether the heater is turned off or on.

This vehicle was leaking oil from the engine, front and back brakes were faulty, the starter was going bad, the electrical system for the back windows were not in working condition. The vehicle would display sensor lights to have the vehicle engine checked but then after about 2 days it would not show a displaying message it would also effect the audio fuse that allows the audio system to function.the tires were bald on the front driver side and left back passenger side. The seat belts were difficult to enter into latch in order to secure seatbelt.

Seat caught on fire from wiring underneath.

Chevrolet tahoe 2002, transmission failure.the consumer purchased a vehiclethat once had a transmission problem, the consumer was told the transmission problem had been fully corrected.the consumer then found out that the transmission was never fixed and the vehicle has been in the shop for a total of 3 times.not only was the vehicle slipping, slow to shift and exhibiting a noise when shifting from park to drive, there were other problems such as not being able to turn the key in the ignition, the seat warmed light illuminated when the button was pushed, the speakers were cracking loudly, the a/c light came on by itself, the moon roof rattled and was leaking, the cargo power switch did lock the doors within 5 seconds of the cargo door being closed, the handle on the third row seat fell off, the cigarette lighter was missing, and the rubber stripping on the cargo door was loose.

My 2002 chev tahoe speedometer is not working correctly. It shows i am going about 5 mph slower than i actually am.

Dt*:the contact stated the windshield washer fluid reservoir had been recently filled.while driving 70 mph in rainy conditions it failed to dispense any fluid.the vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined that battery acid had leaked onto the reservoir and caused a hole which allowed the fluid to leak out.the dealer replaced the reservoir, washer pump and hoses, but did not replace the battery.the same problem occurred with the vehicle previously and dealer replaced only the washer hoses and the pump. Updated 6/16/2006-

My2002 chevrolet tahoe started giving me trouble on 9/23/05.the message center never came on to show that the battery was weak.on 9/24/05,it wouldn't start, i got aboost,i went to yazoo motor's to check the battery, i was told since their electricity was off (lights were off at the time), they couldn't check it. I was told to bring the truck back monday.i explained to them that i had to get it jump-started to get here.i asked if igo and purchase another battery from another place, couldi bring itback monday and have it adjusted.i was asked how many miles were on my truck, i told them 53,000 i was told by mark, that the warranty was off.he told me that the battery was only covered with a 3 year or 36,000 miles.he stated that if i had purchased the battery myself, he could adjust, but since it came at the time of purchase, there was nothing he could do.i left going to auto zone and had the battery tested, he (the salesman), stated that it showed the battery was good.thedot on top of the battery was green, but when i went to leave, my truck wouldn't start. So i purchased a newbattery andmy truck started right up.two weeks ago my husband, who owns a 2002 cadillac, his car cut off without a warning. He carried it to yazoo motors and he was told that it would cost him $115.00 for the battery and $35.00 to install, this was due to the battery being located under the back seat.his battery was also a delco with a 6 year warranty.no light never came on his message center to advise him that the battery was going out.my question:have there been any complaints on the delco batteries put in to the 2002 general motors products?this isvery unusual that the batteries intwo different vehicles, in the same household, made the same year would have to bereplaced within a two week period.both were delco battery with a 6 year warranty.please advise me if you have had any problems with this product.

For the battery, the positive post (side post battery) came completely out of the battery.when i tried to replace the battery, the positive terminal sparked which could have casued a fire.the washer container is under the battery, when the battery leaked battery acid, it started to corrode the container.dt

I am a paramedic in st. Charles county missouri, a suburb of st. Louis. In the months of november and december 2002 i responded to three crashes involving full size gm trucks. All the vehicles caught fire in the left side of the engine compartment after a moderate to high speed impact. The vehicles were involved in driver side off set impacts that lead to intrusion into the engine compartment. The vehicles were a 2002 4x4 avalanche, 2001 ext. Cab 4x4 silverado, and a 2002 4x4 tahoe.the fire started near the battery and the fuel lines that run along the fram on that side of the vehicle. They also, all had the 5.3l v-8. I was not able to look closely at the avalanche or silverado due to taking care of the injured occupants. I did look at the tahoe engine and it appered that the battery cable had been severed in the crash. All victims were not trapped in the vehicles and the fire was extinguished by the fire departments quickly.i am very concerned due to having three fires in such a short time fram. I run probally 500 vehicle crashes a year and very few result in fires even when the fuel system has obvious leaks. I am very concerned due to having three in about a 2 month time frame. Please contact me if you need more info.

Battery died, replaced.battery lights coming on while driving the vehicle, unable to start vehicle, vehicle stalling.unable to operate vehicle due to loss of power.this happened while driving 30 mph in the rain.barely able to pull vehicle off roadway.no power at all including lights and hazard lights.took to chevrolet dealer - found no problem, nothing done to correct.was told that after market alarm system (installed at chevrolet dealer) could be the cause of the problem.took to audio installer and had alarm removed.was told by different chevy dealer that they had the same problem right now with a tahoe in their shop.they removed alarm and have had no problems since (2 days).would need to drive my vehicle to see if it happens again.this is a severe safety issue as it could easily result in an accident because oncoming vehicles can not see you without hazard lights.old part is available.i have kept the alarm system if needed to review.

While drivinginstrumental panel didn't work properly. Dealer has been notified.please feel free to add additional information.

At low speeds such as driving in a parking lot or city traffic, upon activation of the vehicle brakes, the anti-lock brakes activate unexpectedly on dry pavement thereby extending the stopping distance. No crash has occurred yet some near misses have happened. This occurs at almost every low-speed stop. I called chevrolet as this exact condition is described under an existing broad recall for vehicles in my category but they insist no such recall is active for my vehicle. They further strongly and repeatedly requested "for their informational purposes" that i, at my cost, take my vehicle to a chevrolet dealer for servicing. If they later determined the cause to be defective parts they would discuss reimbursement options. I am a good mechanic and regularly maintain my own vehicles. Rather than pay for dealer service on a defective design that is well known with a published resolution i will make the repairs myself. I want nhtsa to be aware of chevrolet's strong arm tactics to induce customers to pay for diagnostic service they should be covering and this problem has not been fully resolved by existing recalls. They have many vehicles on the road susceptible to this dangerous condition. If provided a complaint or tracking number i will follow-up with you on the results of my diagnostic and repair work.

I had abrake failure on my 2002 tahoe after driving at hwy speeds then coming off the exit to stop; the, service brakes light came on. I then attempted to brake and the pedal went all the way to the floor making it very difficult to brake.. , could have been catastrophic, and or deadly;i drove home 2 miles away, very slowly; i had very little brake control.(two infants in the car at the time)two out of four brake lines completely rusted with a hole; brake fluid leaked out quickly at time of incident ..like hundreds, and thousands of other complaints of same exact problem.the brakes themselves are fine., . To replace all four of my brake lines , it cost me $858($813 w/coupon).recall id # 05v379000 - service brakes, hydraulic:antilock may address the problem if you get to it done before the lines completely fail.applying rust inhibitor to your brake lines may also help.this could have been completely avoided since many have complained.the mechanic did not mention a recall when fixing the brake lines.

The exhaust bolts are breaking causing the exhaust to leak.the related problems will likely be poor fuel economy, increased emissions and potentially failed emissions test. The catalytic converter was already replaced on the same side as the exhaust manifold with the broken bolts.problem was not noticed until the second bolt broke thus not sure when the original problem occurred.the problem appears to effecting numerous other vehicles thus a potential large global impact.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, he noticed an abnormal ticking. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed a broken head on the exhaust manifold bolts. The contact stated the exhaust fumes were not escaping from the exhaust pipe but remaining in the engine compartment. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. Periodically, when the car is started from a stopped position, the engine will rev and the car does not go. Seems like something in transmission is slipping.have taken to the dealer and they cannot locate a problem.

Dt: the contact statedtruck stalledat 60 mph. No lights came on, it just cut out.it usually restarted after the second time. Whenparkingthe truck and letting itsit overnight with of tank of gasit will not start the next day until the contactput more gas into the tank. As long as vehicle did not sitovernight it will usually restart.the contact noticed this happening at90,000 miles. He knew someoneelse who had the exact same problem.

I ran out of gas on the freeway going 65 mph with my 5 year old son in the car. Apparently when a chevy tahoe runs out of gas it shuts down the entire electrical system including power steering as well. I'm unsure of this ------> but it seems like the brakes are affected too. I had a very difficult time merging over to the right hand shoulder of the highway (i had to cross three lanes and merge with on-ramp traffic), given that i had very little steering control and had to use as much momentum as i already had to get off the road to safety, without being hit by someone traveling over 50mph. Plus other cars were not letting me over. I can see this becoming a very dangerous situation. Gm just recalled a bunch of tahoe years for this issue but not my year (2002). I would like to see them address this issue in my vehicle, but right now the mechanic at the dealership told me there are "currently no recalls on [my] vehicle" and i would have to pay out of pocket to diagnose/fix this problem. Also when i first got my car in 2009 i was waiting in line to board a ferry boat in washington state, and turned the engine off, had the car in neutral, i thought i would "coast" down the ramp, this is when i first learned that this make/model does not steer or brake properly when the engine is off/dead. There was no incident at this time because i was only going 5 mph but i definitely felt that i did not have control of the vehicle.

About 2 years ago i noticed engine coolant on my garage floor. After investigating i found that the leak was coming from the storage reservoir rather than the radiator.i also noticed that my windshield washer fluid was also leaking onto the garage floor. I took my tahoe into a dealer. I explained the problems, they conducted their evaluations and i was then told that it would cost approximately $450.00 to repair both problems. I could only afford to fix one problem so i chose the coolant leak. They "fixed" the leak...for about $250.00.the coolant reservoir leak reappeared several months later. The tahoe was then out of warranty and apparently to fix these issues it takes lots of time and expertise. These problems are becoming expensive and continue to be annoying.i am being told now that the problems arise from the fluid containers rubbing against their mounting boxes which is creating holes in the containers. Any suggestions?steve mullis

While driving at any speed and without warning the vehicle would suddenly stall out. The dealership replaced the fuel pump twice but the problem still exist.*nlm

The fluttering/grinding noise actually began around august '06.i had to drive without ac with windows down to survive the heat.i asked a local auto repair station about the noise, since it was out of warranty, and he said he had worked on several tahoes with the same problem.he saidthat the chevrolet dealership knew about the problem because they instantly told him what had to be replaced.they told him the average repair bill for this issue would be approx $1500 at the dealership.since then i have heard other tahoes with the same noise , especially at stoplights when they accelerate.not everyone can afford that kind of repair, and if chevorlet knows about this issue, why hasn't there been a recall.this is not the typical and routine wear like oil changes and tires.

2002 chevrolet tahoe.one owner vehicle, bought new.flutter/rattlingsound when accelerating with air conditioner on. Does not rattle when compressor is off.rear air stopped blowing cold. Mechanic states several people with the same problem.replaced tensioner pulley. Belts.still rattling/ loud.now states compressor/condenser need replacing before seizes up.mechanic states this is a know defect of this model, but not aware of recalls.this needs to be addressed since it seems to be a mechanical defect.

Flutter/rattling compressor like sound when accelerating.appears to be from a/c compressor.from my research, other owners have reported similar complaints. Dealer say this is not a equipment failure issue.

I just bought a truck from a used car dealer, who said nothing was wrong with the vehicle. There is a problem with the heating and cooling. When i turn off the a/c it still blows air out of the vents, and the truck needs u joints.

Consumer experienced trouble with reduced engine power and dealership unable to correct it.(nar)*ph

Vehicle wouldn't start and was towed to the dealer.the dealer replaced the crank position sensor.

2002 tahoe shuts down at highway speeds. Sit for fifteen minutes starts back up. Only happens in 90+ degree days. Someone is going to get hurt. I've seen numerous complaints in the complaint dbase.

Engine knocks, chevy will not repair or replace.

I have a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. Once the vehicle sets overnight or a period of six hours or longer the following problem occurs: i go to back out of my driveway in reverse the vehicle engine will die. Note that my drive way is on an incline. This cannot be recreated if the dealership attaches a tech tool to the vehicle. This problem can be recreated without fail with nothing attached. I have also had one occurrence that after i started the vehicle back, which it will always start back, i was attempting to pull out on a major road when the vehicle appeared to try and stall out. Luckily the vehicle picked back up and responded normally just a second before i was nearly struck broadside by a semi-truck. The date below is approximately when the problem started.

Recall for 2002 chevrolet tahoe on the tension pulley. Consumer wants information about recalls. *njthe consumer stated the tension pulley bearings causes the belts to become extremely hot.

The fan belt made a noise.

2002 chevy tahoe with 105, 000 miles. Changed spark plugs and found a severed exhaust manifold bolt on the engine. The bolt is from the driver's side end of manifold. The bolt is worn and rusty on 90% of it and the other 10% is shiny (like a new break). Called dublin, ca chevy and went in after they said they have had many complaints. The offered to fix it for 10% off the $1000 bill. I told them that it was their defect and they should pay. I called gmac and they told me to goto another chevy dealer in san leandro, ca for a diagnosis since the 1st dealership never looked under the hood. That dealer looked at the truck and told me that they would have to remove the manifold and it would cost approximately, $500, but it could run more if there were more bolts that break off during the repair. I have three young children and i have taken immaculate care of this truck. I don't think i should have to pay for a repair when it is obvious by looking at the bolt that the bolt was over torqued when the vehicle was built. After much research, i have found thousands of complaints of this exact problem. They need to recall these vehicles and fix them. If i let this continue without fixing the problem, i will have a huge problem on my hands and it will be a safety issue.

On march 20. 2007 i recieved a letter from onstar telling me that asafety feature that i purchased new with my 2002 chevrolet tahoe will not be operable after december 31, 2007.i will no longer have the onstar system to call 911 automatically in caseair bag deployment. I understand that there about 2 million owners of gm cars that will have the same problem.

Dt: the contact has 2002 chevrolet tahoe.noticed a futter/rattling compressor like sound when accelerating. Appears to be from air conditioning(a/c) compressor air vents in the back of the tahoe are not coolingoff as well as the front. With a/c off it will not make this noise. Caller talked to several people with the same problem. The problem was intermittent.had several things done to the vehicle to keep this problem from happeningagain, and nothingseemed to help.

2002 chevrolet tahoe. Noticed a futter/rattling compressor like sound when accelerating. Appearedto be from air conditioning (a/c)condenser & compressor air vents in the front and backof the tahoe was not cooling off . With a/c off it will not make this noise. Caller, talked to several people with the same problem. The problem was intermittent. Replaced tensioner pully, compressor, and now i am told it wa s the ac condenser. I have already spent $1100, and warranty only paid for 1 item. I now need $500 for ac condensor to hope to have vehicle back to faircondition. I would like chevrolet to recall/replace this in thevehicle,as well as others due to chevrolet knowingthis was a problem. I want payment of $800 paid to me for out of pocket expenses i had to pay when the vehicle only had 57,000 miles on it. I own a 1999 pathfinder and never had any of these problems. I would like someone to contact me as soon a spossible.

Recently i noted a grinding noise in the rear end of my tahoe.a repair shop showed me the "back plates" on the rear wheels.they were completely corroded to the point that pieces were falling off the plates.i was informed that this would not affect my braking but could lead to the inability to use my emergency brake.the manager said he had never seen anything this bad.a technician nearby spoke up and siad he saw a set on a chevy truck recently.i am submitting this material for only one purpose.i suspect there may be use of substandard, faulty material that is not resistant to corrosion being used in at least the chevrolet line of trucks.this could result in failirue of the emergency brake and potential loss of life.i intend to get mine repaired but how many could be out there undiagnosed?

Have replaced running lights about 30ty times both rt and lt.finely it burned out so bad that it want let me replace the bulbs they just don't work anymore.this started about 2015 i didn't know of this site so here what can we do.thanks

Day running lights on vehicle burned out - upon changing the light bulb found that the light bulb and the light socket had burned - like it caught on fire - clear lens cover is smoked up.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the headlights suddenly failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the ignition switch was faulty and malfunctioned. The ignition switch was replaced and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 175,000.

Dt: the contact stated thaton2002 chevrolet tahoe the daytime running lights on the driver'sside burned out, and when he went to replace themthe light bulb and the socket were charred. He noticed this on 7-19-05. He hasn't talked to the dealer or the manufacturer but plans on doing so.this was the first time thishappened.

2002 chevrolet tahoe 5.3l engine-fuel gauge level erratic. Dealer fuel level sensor in tank is the problem, however this is a "normal wear and tear" replacement item at 62,000 miles combined with high sulfur in ak fuels causes it. However, 2001 vw passat had same issue with sulfur and sensor which did warrant a recall action at no cost to owner.vehicle description: sulfur in fuel interacts with certain additives found in widely available gasoline causing sulfur to become deposited on the contact points of fuel sending units mounted inside the fuel tank. This could cause the fuel gauge to read full while the fuel tank may not in fact be full or could be empty.consequence:running out of fuel without warning while the fuel gauge indicates that there is sufficient fuel in the tank lead to safety problems nhtsa campaign id number : 01v157000. Please look into 2002 chevrolet tahoe 5.3l fuel level sensor issues.

I own a 2002 chevy tahoe and about 8 months ago(december 2010) my fuel gauge began to start failing to read proper fuel levels. The problem continued for a couple more weeks until finally the fuel gauge simply wouldn't make a reading at all. I stayed optimistic that the situation would correct itself but no such correction arose. I tried using fuel injection cleaners to possibly resolve the issue but again nothing helped. For the past couple days i have been reading numerous forums and articles on this exact same problem in chevy vehicles ranging from 2000 to as recent as 08 models. I'm writing this in hopes that a recall can occur that will help solve this issue for the thousands of people that are experiencing the same problem i am. Chevy needs to be liable for the fraudulent manufacturing of vehicles that experience the same issue over and over again. Instead of letting americans shovel out 800 plus dollars in issues that shouldn't be occurring so early in a vehicles life. I have yet to correct this issue in hopes that the government will force chevy into recalling the vehicles for proper repairs.

My 2002 chevy tahoe has experienced three fuel pump failures with the last failure being today. It cost me in excess of $ 850.00 to replace my fuel pump and tank today. All power to the vehicle is lost when the fuel pump has gone out. I believe chevy should have a recall on this item as i believe it could be a serious problem to loose power if traveling at interstate speed.

2002 tahoe shuts down at highway speeds. Sit for fifteen minutes starts back up. Only happens in 90+ degree days. Someone is going to get hurt. I've seen numerous complaints in the complaint dbase.

Leased 2002 chevrolet tahoe feb 2002. Serviced from oct 2003 thru feb 2004 after a sept 2003oil change tire rotation service and conserns of fuel smell and suspension squeaks. Services were performed corrections were done new sending unit installed.october 27,2003 the gas tank on the tahoe burst when fueling at a gas station requiring fire and police unit to be sent. Vehicle towed to dealership. Vehicle was in service for 3 weeks for safety reasons. I did not want the vehicle back and gm customer assistance gave me false hopes of a release on the lease.i did not recieve any help with these situations and still have the unsafe vehicle. Recently i thought my troubles would be over. I found a vehicle that i want to buy and can trade my lease in with gm's pull ahead program. Because i did not pay 2 of the payments on the tahoe when i could not use the vehicle and lost my income to pay at that time, my feb 2002 turn in date has changed to may 2005. This makes me uneligible for the pull ahead even though i have a extenuating circumstance. I did not ask for these problems and do not want to pay for something im not getting. I have lost alot by not having reliable transportation and all i seek is a new good reliable suv to buy and walk away from this problemed tahoe, with help from someone gm and the dealership has not helpedin any way.

Problems with suspension, brakes, and gas gauge giving out an improper reading.*mrfew days after vehicle was being serviced, consumer noticed a fuel smell coming from vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer which they found out that the gas cap wasn't tight.also, whicle putting fuel, gas tank burst spilling fuel to the consumer.in addition, consumer experienced stalling, suspension squeaks, and fuel related problems.*la

Driving down interstate truck started to loose speed and died hard to control at 70mph. Had to try and get to the shoulder of road in heavy traffic, very dangerous this has happened to me 3 times tonight being the 3rd time, this needs to be a recall it puts peoples life in danger!

The fuel gauge will read the correct amount of fuel until it is about 3/4 to 1/2 a tank then start bouncing up and down then it will go all the way to empty and the fuel light comes on even though it has plenty of fuel.i have been driving down the road with my kids in the car and ran out of gas even though it registers fuel above the red mark and no low fuel light on.i know have ran out of gas several times and fear it might put myself or my family in a bad situation.i don't understand why this is happening and wish someone (gm) would help their loyal customer base.as it appears with more research i do this is a serious ongoing problem that spans different models and years.

Fuel pump shuts off while driving, stalling car.also, car won't start if less than quarter tank of gas.

Problem started at 21000 miles. Car either won't start or loses power while driving. I have had five fuel pumps since then. Now have 53k miles. Also, car won't start on incline even though it has 1/4 tank as verified by dealer service. Everything that can be "fixed" or replaced has been and i am still having starting problems and have to have a new fuel pump ever 3 months.gm customer assistance unwilling to provide relief. Serviced only at dealers, they can't fix the problem.

The fuel pump was replaced three timesthe vehicle was just serviced again last week for a defective fuel pump.....first replacement wa son 11/07/2002 at 21170 miles. It was covered 100% by warranty. Second replacement took place on 04/28/2004 at 50,790 miles. Parts were under warranty, consumer picked up labor costs, and third replacement wa son 02/04/2005 at 67, 275 miles. Warranty covered 50%, and consumer assumed 50% 0f labor cost.

I have the same issue listed campaign id05v155000 on a 2002 tahoe.i spoke with chris lash, safety defects engineer with you last year in november.today, i see gm has recalled several vehicles about this problem but i am not included on this list although i have had the exact same issue with the fuel pump failure.my vin is [xxx].please let me know what i can do to assist in this effort.gm is non-responsive about this issue.updated 07/19/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

I bought my used 2002 chevy tahoe with only 29,000 miles. I have owned my vehicle less than 8 months and it has died (while i was driving) 4 times already. The 5th time this happened, the engine just wouldn't start. I hear the fuel pump is a common problem with gmc's however, at 50,000 this should not be happening. It's the fuel pump. Luckily, everytime my car stalled out, i wasn't in busy traffic. I don't want to know what i would have done had this happened if i was on the freeway. This is something gmc definitely has to look at.

Dt:the abs light kept coming on. Could hear clicking in the brakes. Contacted the dealer, they said to bring the vehicle in. Took the vehicle to dealer, and they fixed the vehicle, but had to pay out of pocket. Took the vehicle in on march 30, 2005. They replaced the number two injector.

Vehicle would not start. Vehicle was towed to the dealership, and mechanic repaired the fuel pump.

After fueling fuel gauge registered that the fuel tank was empty and then vehicle stalled.consumer was able to restart the vehicle ten minutes later.vehicle was taken to the dealer, who had to update the computer to remedy the problem.

My 02 tahoe fuel gauge began to read empty just after filling the tank up. Since then the gauge had read empty.

Was driving in the business district when pump failed.engine shut down which also shut down power brakes and steering.gas guage showed empty although tank was half full.had to have the unit towed into dealership where pump was replaced at a cost of $1203.84.this was the second failure of the gas tank pump.first replacement was i believe in the fall of 2005 shortly after the warranty had expired at a cost of slightly less than $1000.00. Mileage would have been between 35 & 40,000. Don"t have the ticket for this but i believe i can get it.have talked with others who have had the same problem.if you have pickup can be changed cheaper as they remove the pickup box.in both instances i was traveling at a low rate of speed so the loss of power steering and power brakes was not catistrophic.

A steel fuel line from the fuel tank to the engine bay has started weeping.the dealer said that they all need replacement due to corrosion failure.the estimated cost $2300.00 because the body must be lifted from the frame.this comes just a few months afterthe brake lines had to be replaced for the same reason and at a cost of $2200.00.obviously gm has installed low grade i.e. Low cost steel tubing on this truck.

We have now had to replace all four of our door handles. The black plastic and hardware just rots away. Eventually you pull on the door handle and the piece breaks off of the car and hangs by one remaining fixture. Money pit for sure.

I purchased a 2002 tahoe in august and recently noticed a popping sound when i would lift the hatchback. Upon further investigation, i could see that the whole hatchback glasswas sagging on one side. I realized that the components that heldthe glass to the frame was badly cracked and starting to let go. I had bought the extended warranty, but was told this was a glass issue, and would not be covered. After several calls to the dealership, they agreed to have a gm representativeevaluate the situation to see if they could replace it at no charge, $802.50,in the end the dealership replaced the glass for me.

The consumer was driving the vehicle when the cargo door window hatch came off. The consumerdrove the vehicleto the dealer and was told that the warranty had expired, however they had seen the same thing happen on same make and model vehicles.the dealer told consumer that eventually the entire window would come off.the manufacture was contacted, andstated that they wouldnot repair the window at their cost.*la

I own a 2002 chevy tahoe, the power steering has progressively gotten worse.at all times and instances you can not turn the steering wheel to the right, at any time you can turn the steering to the left, try parking, or turning right and it is not a task a large man can do easily, and i am a woman, there is no power steering turning to the right.the vehicle has been babied from day one, no excessive use or wear, the car is a 2002 and only has 53,000 miles on it, so i would gather the car is not abused.the vehicle has only been driven on paved roads.i took the vehicle to nimnicht chevrolet in jacksonville florida to have them diagnose the vehicle, and the steering gear is bad at 53,000 miles and of course the upper intermediate shaft is rattling, and the parking brake wont hold the vehicle.i contacted chevy customer service and they told me it was normal wear and tear and since i was the second owner and the vehicle was outside of warrantythey would not cover the repairs.mind you this vehicle only has 53,000 miles.i have owned several vehicles and driven them to well over 100,000 miles and in every vehicle i have owned, nissan, datsun, 2 volkswagens, never has the steering gone bad.even with over 100,000 miles.this is a safety issue and is common for chevy, records indicate chevy has been having problems since 1999 with numerous components on all of their vehicles, especially steering and brakes for this vehicle alone their are over 190 service bulletins pertaining to defects in this vehicle alone, same vehicle 2003 has over 300 service related repair bulletins.i am scared to death to drive the vehicle this is my only transportation. I would hate to have an accident because of defects chevy is aware of and is relying on a bean counter for repair recall this is not normal for a vehicle to be broken at 53,000 miles. Brakes, tires, battery, belts that is normal wear and tear. The manufacturer should repair these defects free of charge.

Rear brakes make noise. After removing rear brake rotors the problem was found. The emergency brake pads slid down and drag, extremely wearing the brake surface. Also the backing plates rust through in some areas. G.m. Has a new brake shoe clip to hold shoes in place. They did not cover any of the repair. The rotors have to be replaced, the emergency brake pads and the pad clips. This could be a very dangerous condition. The dealer told me this is a large problem with the tahoes and the full size pickups.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's emergency brake failed while changing a tire.the vehicle rolled off the jack, should have stopped, but rolled a few feet before the contact was able to stop the vehicle.no injuries were sustained.the emergency brake light was not illuminated.

Emergency brake failed.emergency brake is seldom used but was in working order.attempted to have vehicle inspected and was informed the emergency brake failed to hold car.this same vehicle passed inspection the prior year.there was a cost of over $400.00 to repair this.i was informed by the repair facility that this was common in this type of vehicle.

Problem with parking brake prevents vehicle from passing texas state inspection.vehicle will move forward during idle with parking brake fully engaged.

I had a 2002 chevy tahoe.about 1 year into owning the vehicle, strange brake noises occured intermittenly.it also was getting very poor gas mileage, down about 2-3 miles per gallon.i brought it in several times to brown and brown at superstition springs and asked them to check the brakes, which they never did.finally, after about 6-8 months of this problem, the issue was identified after my family and i were driving home one night and we smelled brakes burning.i took the tahoe back to brown and brown the next day.they found that the emergency brake had been stuck on the brakes for months, and finally burned up. The problem was fixed, under warranty, but with no apologies from chevy.unfortuneately, i had already received compensation from chevy for other issues relating to this tahoe. So i could not file a lemon law suit again.i ended up trading the vehicle in for another, due to all the issues.the vehicle was just constantly in the shop.

Rear brakes on my '02 tahoe started grinding a little while after buying the car new in feb. '02. Took the wheels off, pads seemed to be fine with little or no wear. Took the rear rotors off to find one emergency brake pad on each side worn to metal! replaced both rotors and pad sets with the newly re-designed retainer clips. My wife drives the car with our four children so i don't know when it started but it seems every time she comes home and i'm there in the garage the rear wheels are too hot to touch. Seems to me the same problem is occurring again. After all the blogs/complaints i've read, gm should have a recall in effect! discussed the problem with the dealer, their reply was that they hadn't heard of the problem(although i had to go to napa to get the parts because they were out).

Dt: the emergency brake stopped working. Has been to the dealership , and the dealershipsaid that the emergency brake system was a wear and tire problem.contacted gmc, and they said there was no recall on this vehicle. Emergency brake had not worked for a month. The vehicle is in the repair shop right now.

I have a 2002 chevy tahoe with emergency brake problems. I have taken my vehicle into gmac for brake inspections with only 20,000 miles and was told that is the way emergency brakes are. I have to put my foot to the floor of the vehicle to engage e-brake. The vehicle will move (drive) with the e-brake on. Now, i am up to 70,000 miles and i'm scared that the vehicle won't stop when i need it too. I have heard this is a common problem with chevy tahoes in years 200-2003 due to a brake pad issue. Problem with braking system of my 2002 chevrolet tahoe ls 1500.within a year of purchasing the tahoe the braking system began to act strangely.for example, while driving my daughter to preschool in san francisco, ca. There is hill i drive down with a stop sign at the bottom.there is a bump in the road approx. 30 feet from the stop sign - almost every time i hit this bump, with the brake already engaged - the brake system "disengages" when i hit the bump and i have to frantically push the brake again to try to stop the vehicle.a few times i have ended up in the middle of the street before the brake engages.it is only pure luck that no one has been hit or killed.i know now to avoid this street , but it happens approx. 5 to 10 times a month at different times, weather conditions, road surfaces, etc.i am utterly paranoid about this and drive very cautiously - it is only for that reason that i haven't been in an accident.in may of 2005 i finally insisted on replacing the brakes at my own expense, yet this hasn't solved the problem.the emergency brake problem is horrible.this started as soon as the brakes were replaced in may 2005- it started sticking once in a while and worked its way up to a few times a day.the emergency brake was replaced in april of 2006 yet this solved nothing, the problem is just as bad if not worse now.the chevrolet dealer i have been working with, putnam chevrolet in burlingame, ca., acts as if i am driving the vehicle like a maniac and it is all my fault.for the first time tonight, in a terrible case of frustration, i turned to the internet to investigate and was stunned by what i discovered-a problem with abs brakes for this vehicle that has been recalled in only 20 states, and a known defect with the emergency brake that has resulted in bulletins to the dealer but no recall.five other people i know have experienced the same type of problems with either a tahoe or yukon - huge problem and needs to be investigated.

The air conditioner belt and tensionor have failed as a result of the air compressor.i have been told there is high compression in the revalve and intermittent in the compressor.the failure has caused the belt to shred.also, about a year after i purchased the tahoe brand new, the emergency/parking break started losing it's tension.now, it will not prevent the vehicle from rolling.

The emergency brake did not keep the vehicle from moving.the consumer was able set the emergency brake and the vehicle would still move.it was replaced less than one year ago, but the problem recurred.the work was performed by the local mechanic.once the brake was set and was stressed, the shoe would fail. *sc

Parking brake on 2002 chevy tahoe wore out prematurely.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the emergency brake makes it difficult to park on hills or inclines.the emergency brake could not be used in the event of an emergency.the failure mileage was 220,000.

Our 2002 chevrolet tahoe failed the annual safety inspection due to the parking brake not functioning at all.was advised by the inspector that this is a common problem in the tahoe and other gm suvs due to a poor design of the parking brake shoe attachment.since the parking brake did not function at all, it indicated that both parking brake shoes were not functioning. As explained by the inspector:the attachment point fails easily allowing the parking brake shoe to drop down and come into contact with the rotor, which then renders the parking brake useless. If not caught relatively soon, the pad will be worn off from contact with the rotor and the underlying metal of the shoe can damage the rotor.both parking brake shoes were detached and theminimum cost was $120 if the shoes only needed re-attachment, however since both pads were worn from rubbing the rotors the cost to repair was quoted as $250.a second estimate was $300.actual cost of repair was $234.43.the second repair shop that quoted $300, also stated that this is a common problem with gm suvs.the inspector told us that gm is aware of this defect, but has chosen to do nothing about it.the end result of a poorly designed parking brake shoe is a useless parking brake that the consumer is not aware of until inspected or an accident occurs and then an extremely costly repair.after a quick search on the internet, it is clear that this is a common problem and that accidents have already occurred.the following news link lead us to report this to the nhtsa:http://www.azcentral.com/12news/consumer/articles/chevytahoe09152004-cr.html.

Noticed a grove in both rear rotors, upon inspection of the brakes it was determined that the parking brake shoes slipped down from it's mounting and scored the rotors. I was unable to remove the rotors on both sides, without damaging them. I had to use a puller to remove them. Both parking brake shoeswere worn out and the braking plates were rusted out. This is the second time this has happened in 90,000 miles.

Emergency brake on tahoe's go out if you do not use them and cost around $500. To fix the problem.from people i have talked to gm knows about the problem but does not care and refuses to fix.i understand that this problem is on all tahoe and suburbans years 2002 and 2003.to pass a safety test in texas you haven't to have an emergency brake that works.i was told that you have to use this brake on it will happen again.i don't park on a hill so i don't use it.others are the same.

My vehicle failed inspection due to the emergency brake being out of order. I have not had it fixed yet but i did a search for the parts online and came upon a website with many owners of my vehicle with same problem.i think that this matter certainly is something that needs some serious investigation time spent on it. I have owned my truck for three years now and i have not once used the emergency brake once.

Parking brake didn't work properly when we purchased the vehicle.i didn't need it and didn't say anything to the dealer until months later (not sure when).they were completely worn down and i never used the brake!it is again feeling like they are worn out again and i still haven't used the brake a significant amount.i would not place the vehicle in a situation that would depend on the emergency brake working.

2002 chevy tahoe parking brake failure to engage during state inspection.

Consumer stated the emergency brake did not hold.took vehicle to a mechanic and the mechanic stated the actuatorbroke inside the brake drum.

2002 chevy tahoe.

I purchased a 'certified pre-owned' 2002 tahoe 8/2004 that had 26,000 miles.i took it through state inspection 8/2005 and failed because i had no emergency brake.the inspector said he has encountered this problem several times.i went to mathis tire and they said my brake pads were to the rotors and it would cost $350.i went to the dealer and asked them how it passed their 150 point inspection with a worn emergency brake.they tried to explain that the emergency brake is not part of the brake system.they initially wanted to charge me over $350 until i asked to speak to the owner.i ended up paying $184 to fix it.i took my truck through inspection 7/11/08 and failed because of the emergency brake.i have never heard of an emergency brake wearing away more than once but to have it happen twice.and, no i do not ride with the emergency brake engaged.

I have a 2002 chevrolet. I have never needed to use may parking brake and when i went to get it inspected, i was notified that it failed the test due to a defective parking brake.i understand this is a common problem on these model vehicles.

I was driving home & while accelerating i noticed my truck begin to rev & no longer accelerate,my check engine light came on. I took my foot off the accelerator & put it back on it, i was in an 50 mph area, & my truck just continued to rev. I started to lose speed. I repeated to put my foot on the accelerator then i picked up speed but on to about 35 mph. My truck wouldn't shift to 3rd gear. I made it home. The next day i had it towed to the repair shop. I order a new transmission off ebay, had it installed & got my truck back in about 3wks. In june 2012 the exact same thing happened, my truck wouldn't shift into 3rd gear & my check engine light came on. I had the transmission replaced with another new transmission & in july 2013 the exact same thing happened again. This time i did not go get another new transmission. I started asking around & found that others have been having the same problem with their tahoe transmissions. I then tried putting lucas stop slip & that did nothing to help the problem. My truck has been sitting for months because i have put too much money into new factory built transmissions & the transmission does not seem to be the problem.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle transfer case had a pin hole in it. The vehicle was taken to a local shop who diagnosed that the chain in the transfer cause the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 151,000.

Clunking noise.when you go forward or reverse.sound is coming from steering or front end.sometimes when you take your foot off brake and go.no one can figure what it is.

Transmission problem on my 2002 chevrolet tahoe. *nlm

Hear a klunking noise everytime the transmission shifts, then a whining noise when pressing on the gas, and a noticeable change in thetransmission... Then you realize you have no reverse.

I have had my chevy tahoe for just over 2-1/2 years.during this time, my transmission has failed twice.the same part also broke prior to my owning the vehicle.three times the same part has failed yet my vehicle has little over 55,000 miles on it.it had approximately 40,000 the last time it was repaired.i have sought assistance from gm to get the transmission fixed but was flat denied any type of support.i feel this is a problem with their transmission that should be addressed by gm, not the unsuspecting owner.

Power train - transmission 2002 tahoe1) upon starting the vehicle, will not engage in reverse and engine revs as if still in park or neutral. Place back in park several times -- or wait 30-60 seconds to engage.2) intermediate slippage in low gear upon acceleration at low speeds or from stop.engine briefly revs then engages.

Consumer stated transmissionfailed three times. . first year that consumer had the vehiclehe had to replacetransmission. Then, exactly one year later the same thing happened.currently, transmission failed again. Whenconsumer stopped at a traffic light vehiclemoved a little andstarted to shake.finally,it stopped doing anything.consumer felt he purchased a lemon.

I have a 2002 tahoe that just turned 41k miles.i experienced on a few occasions while accelerating from a stop that the vehicle seemed to lose acceleration for a second or so before re-engaging and resuming normal acceleration.problem was definitely transmission related.this same incident happened to me but this time the engine revved, acceleration diminished, and loud banging tumbling metal noise was heard.ends up the transmission mechanism that causes the transmission to shift failed and broke apart breaking other internal components.transmission has to be rebuilt.gm customer service was helpful but still have to pay for 50% of repair cost for rebuilt transmission. The vehicle has a tow package and has never towed a thing yet.obviously a problem this grand in a vehicle did not happen overnight and it appears this problem is similar to other transmission complaints on the same vehicle.this should really be looked at by those that know.

When vehicle was in over-drive between speeds of 40 - 43 mph, there was a vibration in the front end.although the dealership has serviced the truck several times the cause of the noise is still undetermined.there was a loud vibration when the vehicle was in 2 wheel auto drive and at speedof 40-45 mph/1200 to 1400 rpms shifting into over-drive going uphill and or pull on engine.may be a torque converter problem.this was an ongoing problem which had not been resolved. *sc

I was stopped at a red light in the afternoon on the day in question.once the light turned green, i pushed the accelerator on to hear a whining/slipping feeling out of the engine area.this has happened at least 2 times on different days.

The consumer was unable to place the vehicle in reverse. The dealership informed the consumer that the transmission failed.

Transmission failed. Part has been repaired three times; however, problem still exists.

Transmission will not shift into reverse, had vehicle towed to chevy dealer, where they repaired.said it was caused by defective sun gear sheild / reaction shield.drove fine for approximately 11 months, then same exact problem once again.

I had a maintenance service performed on my 2002 chevy tahoe at the carl chevrolet dealership in san jose, ca. A minor transmission service was included with this service. They replaced the filter, performed a visual inspection of the transmission and replaced 4.5 quarts of transmission fluid that was removed for filter replacement. I picked-up my suv and drove it home. There was a slight delay in shifting, but this was only noticeable intermittently.the next day, i was leaving on a family camping trip and my transmission went out approximately 1/4 of a mile from home. We were making a right turn and i heard a loud "clunk" which was followed by a spinning or high rpm winding sound. Since we were about to start down a steep hill, i tried to turn around. As i was in the process of making a y-turn, i put the car into reverse. I had lost my reverse gear, so i was unable to complete the turn. This left my car stranded in the lane of oncoming traffic. Fearing for my families safety,i put the car into neutral and pushed the car forward into a driveway to prevent blocking the lane. I had my tahoe towed back to the carl chevrolet dealership. The transmission tech stated that the sun shell gear had worn out and caused the transmission to fail. He also stated that there was no connection between the previous day's service and the transmission failure the following day. The service manager stated that this is a common problem with the 4l60e transmissions that are standard equipment in the tahoes. The transmission tech also stated that the chevrolet distributed a technical bulletin within the company advising the mechanics that the sun shell gear was faulty due to a lack of proper heat treating. Chevy has been aware of this problem since the year 2000. I asked chevy customer service for financial assistance and they offered to pay 10% of the bill. My family was put at risk due to this known part defect in the transmission.

I began noticing that my tahoe was not functioning correctly in late november or early december 2001.occasionally, when i shifted the car from park to reverse and pressed on the gas the engine would rev, but the truck would not move.additionally, occasionally after stopping at a stop sign/light the engine would rev and the truck would not move.i took the truck to john thornton chevrolet to be looked at.they told me that there was a defective valve body in the transmission.they explained that the valve body had burs left on it at the time it was manufactured and that the burs should have been removed.the burs were falling off of the valve body and into the transmission fluid causing a blockage which caused the problem.they replaced the valve body.approximatley 3 weeks ago i began having the same problem.i took the truck back to same dealership and they told me that it, again, was a defective valve body and they replaced it.i called chevrolet to inquire about this problem.they stated that they were not aware of it, but would look into it.today, july 30, 2002, i had the same problem occur.i called chevrolet again and they told me to contact a dealership for an evaluation.i have contacted the dealership for an appointment, however, the dealership stated that they are only able to fix what chevrolet tells them they can fix when the vehicle is under warrenty.so far this has only occurred when i am trying to go from a stop to start, however, i am concerned that the transmission will malfunction when i am driving at highway speed.i appreciate your concern and i hope that you will be able to bring this to resolution since i have not been able to in working with chevrolet and the dealership.

Transmission fails to function appropriately when going from a stopped position to forward or reverse.in reverse position, loud grinding noise is heard.in forward, vehicle hesitates before finally moving forward.this has been to dealer for repair 3 times.first repair revealed front thrust shim with too much end play; transmission assembly was rebuilt (manufacturer refused to replace), thrust washer replaced and transmission overhauled.two return visits for same problem and dealer says they cannot recreate and have found no problems.*nlm

I purchased a used 2002 chevy tahoe from grand auto, northglenn co, at the end of may 2005. I drove the car for 4 months, putting on ~11,000 miles.on oct 16, 2005 i was headed to dinner with two other people in the car. I turned right on to 95th st heading south. There were cars coming behind me, but there was plenty of room for a proper acceleration to cruising speed without in-convincing the other drivers. As i accelerated through first gear, all was fine, then the car tried to shift into second gear. As it tried, there was a popping sound, the motor rpms increased to red-line, and there was a squealing sound. I let off the accelerator, and tried to get over out of traffic to see what happened. Luckily there was enough shoulder and enough time to get out of traffic and try to figure out what the problem was.as it turned out, the transmission had lost 2nd gear, 4th gear, and reverse, leaving the vehicle close to useless, and unsafe to drive.while i was able to safely exit traffic, no all may be so lucky. If you pull out into traffic, or try to cross traffic and the transmission fails, losing 3 of 5 gears, you could easily have disastrous consequences.after getting home and researching this problem i found that this is covered in a gm tsb, 00-07-30-022 nov 00 a/t. I also found many stories of this failure mode, indicating that this is not an isolated incidence, nor is this a one in a million failure mode. I believe this problem should be re-classified from a tsb to a recall, because of the probable safety issues.

Consumer complained about atransmission problem.consumer had transmission replaced on 3 separate occasions. Consumercontacted the manufacturer, who offered a gmcloyalty certificate in the amount 0ff $1000.00 towards a new vehicle purchase.the consumer stated that her transmission was removed 6 times and replaced 3 times.the transmission slipped and the vehicle stopped.gm was uncooperative to resolving the transmissionproblem.*tc

While driving 40 mph up a hill the planetary gear failed. As a result, the vehicle produced a loud pop and grinding noise from the transmission. The consumer states the gear will no longer engage into reverse. Please provide additional information.

Transmission disengaged from engine while driving. On several other occassions the vehicle failed to move upon depressing the accelerator, after a few seconds the vehicle would jerk and take off.

Vehicle turned off at 15 mph, causing the steering wheel to lock, and consumer was unable to control the vehicle.taken to dealer for inspection, and it was determined that the transmission needed top be replaced for the third time.

1) no events leading to trans failure2) no reverse, no 3rd or 4th gear3) rebuild transmission.

Approximately 10k miles on 2002 tahoe, vehicle would not go into reverse, and transmission, failed, was told by dealer that only part of transmission needed fixed.now at 40k miles roughly 2 years later and out of warranty, same problem happened, what will gm do for me???

Transmission takes 30 seconds to shift to second gear. Vehicle has been taken to dealer twice, cannot remedy the problem. After the second attempt, the transmission was replaced.the vehicle still makes noises as if the transmission was not adjusted correctly.the vehicle also doesn't run the same.it feels as if the vehicle loses power.there is a scraping noise that is heard from the rear wheels.the brakes were replaced and the rotors deglazed.*jg

Dt*: the contact stated that in 2005 the front end was replaced due to a lock up while making a turn. The dealer determined it was due to catastrophic failure. On 06/01/06, there were problems with the front abs sensor. The brakes would not work properly at a very low speed. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer on 06/16/2006where the dealer determined this abs sensor failure was recalled and the remedy repair was already process on the vehicle.the hub was referenced as the cause of the abs failure but was not included in the recall. The vehicle can not be driven because it is unsafe.the manufacturer alerted the contact the vehicle would not be repair under the recall or warranty until a manufacturer investigator inspects the vehicle in a month. The rear differential was replaced. The driver side windshield wiper arm was replaced. Updated 07/25/06.

Front differential is making noise.mechanic states that it may lock up unexpectedly and cause a crash.dealer states they have had 4 similar vehicles in for this problem and states it is due to factory error.

2002 tahoe won't back up in 4 wd and has grinding noise when in 4 wd.dealer advised that bearing in front differential bad.replacement of differential advised.dealer charged only for labor, apparently this has been an ongoing problem.cost to repair $447, mileage 39500.

There is a lot of noise (clunking) coming from front driveshaft when my vehicle is engaged in 4 wheel drive especially when turning and there is some smell of burning coming ...no problem or no noise when driving in 2 wheel drive. I'm afraid that something will break one day and i will have an accident. Dealer tried to fix it twice but was unable. There are no recalls but it is highly unusual to hear this "scary noise".

I just bought a truck from a used car dealer, who said nothing was wrong with the vehicle. There is a problem with the heating and cooling. When i turn off the a/c it still blows air out of the vents, and the truck needs u joints.

Consumer received a recall letterconcerning seat belts which specified thatrepairs should takeonly 15 minutes; however, hehad to leavevehicle for a period of four hours.consumerwasnot permitted to wait for vehicle, and a loaner was not available.

The contact owned a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact crashed into another vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy. In addition, the contact stated that the seat belt restraint failed to operate. The contact sustained a fractured rib and contusion to the sternum that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,999.

The automatic locking retractor with child safety seat in chevrolet/tahoe 2002 does not remain locked, therefore thechild safety seat does not get secured. It started about 2 years ago intermittently but now completely does not lock at all. This defect ison the second row seat passenger side. The other one it does lock.

Front passenger seat belt occasionally locks up during normal driving.this forces the passenger to undo seat belt, fully retract the belt to its normal "unused" position before putting it back on.other times, the same belt will not lock.front passenger will lunge forward during normal to hard braking.no pattern to failure, but one or the other occurs at least 50% of the time the front passenger belt is used. *nlm

Seatbelt on passenger's side locks up where it cannot be used. This happens intermittently. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer replaced seat belt. But problem still exists. Consumer states the seat belt would not come out of retractor at all and also the seat belt locked against the seat.

Please be advised that i would like to lodge a complaint regarding the placement of both the driver and passenger seatbelt.i have been burned, on both my left and right- side upper-back area, by the metal insert of the seatbelt.it seems that if the sun's positioning happens to shift to the front area of the vehicle, the insert of the seatbelt becomes dangerously hot.i believe this is a serious defect in the vehicle's otherwise superb structure.i would like information on a possible remedy to this matter and look forward to an expedient response.

Seat belt locked in place and fails to extent or retract, rendering it unuseable for passengers.

The passenger side seat belt will lock and not allow the passenger to move. The problem occurs at rest or in motion. The seat belt ratchet mechanism continues to tighten causing discomfort for the passenger who has to release the seat belt. The dealer inspected and assured that it "functions as designed", if that is so why does the driver side not "function as designed" if it did i think it might cause a fatality.

Front passenger seat belt locks up and tightens, restricting (eliminating!)any passenger movement. It is like a snake and just keeps tightening down. In addition, pressure becomes so great on seat belt release, my wife and child are unable to release the seat-belt. This happens at all speeds, standing still, forward or reverse, etc... Dealer has attempted to repair problem, retractor has been replaced and same condition was present after replacement, third retractor is scheduled for install. Firmly believe this is a design fault and dealer has done all to repair problem at their level. In addition, this problem has been experienced by me on several work vehicles both tahoe and pick-up all 2002 years. All other retractors in my vehicle with the exception of the front passenger seat, work properly.

Passenger seat belt would continue to tightenonpassenger while driving. Dealer andmanufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further infromation.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the rear driver side seat belt was not retracting on the third row. The contact had to cut the seat belt to remove a passenger. The dealer stated that the seat belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.

The failure mileage was 180,000.

I was out of town to visit family and as i was turning into a street and all of a sudden my brakes went soft and i had difficulty stopping.at first i thought what is wrong with this thing but as i got closer to a friends house the brakes no longer worked i had to push it to floor to slow down. I was so petrified i pulled over and waits for some friends to pick me up. I had to stay an extra day to wait to a shop to open. The mechanics stated i loss 2 brake lines and 2 calibers almost 700 i had to pay with no choice since i had to go home and work the same day. This was very upsetting and cost me tons of money i don't even have. This problem came with no warning what so ever.

The brake lines on this truck (and every other gm truck this era) are rusted beyond belief!!!i fix them and fix them and fix them - i'm trying to do them all but i do not have the funds...this time the pedal went straight to the ground and the truck kept going.had a choice, hit a stopped school bus or hit a tree.i chose the tree.not much damage, but could have been worse!!!i've seen many many posts online with people complaining about this issue - i go to the parts store and they stock the bulk line and fittings and know the size for gm trucks because the problem is so common - its crazy that gm put such ferrous metal in these truck brake lines.i own cars much older and with many more miles and there are no issues.same geographic location, same roads, same parking - different results.hmmmm....its obvious they used cheap inferior crappy lines that have not stood the test of time.the pedal going to the floor is absurd!no failsafes?and the antilock brake mechanism (valves/electronics) are located in a spot on the frame that was installed before the body was mated to the chassis!great!!!how the heck do you fix it?im thinking of cutting a hole in the floor above it and welding it back in!this is crazy...a recall should have been in place years ago.

Wife came home and said the brake pedal went to floor when attempting to stop. With engine running, brake fluid is seen pumping out of right front brake line. Mechanic reports line burst and all other lines are severely rusted and must be replaced.$1500 repair estimate.

Brake lines have rusted through and caused an extremely unsafe situation. While on a family vacation to the outer banks the brakes failed without warning. We were able to find a repair shop to look over the brake system after refilling the master cylinder with brake fluid. The repair shop found no issues with the brakes and said someone probably forgot to bleed the brakes after servicing them. Since it was a recently purchased vehicle and we didn't know the history of work performed we thought this was possibly the issue. After driving another 50 miles or so the brakes failed again for the second time. This time my family and i were on the way to the state fair. I crawled under the vehicle and found one line to be completely ruptured and all others to be severely rusted. I now plan to replace all brake lines before the vehicle is used again. I own much older vehicles with brake lines in perfect shape. After doing a little research i found that chevrolet brake lines used in this model and year have had abnormally high brake line corrosion and failure compared to other vehicles manufactured during the same time period. I am wondering why this issue hasn't been brought to the publics attention and why no recall? the brake lines were obviously manufactured with inferior materials or workmanship or both. Thanks

Ea11001 brake pedal suddenly went to the floor during braking, hit pole.repair center showed me a batch of rusted brake lines entering the abs box underneath the drivers side door. There was fluid leaking from that group of lines, four of them together. Searching the internet, i have found there are thousands of complaints and news shows about this issue and yet, you have done little. Why ? i have two of these vehicles grey [xxx] and green [xxx] and they both have this issue! - wtf ? and they do not work with 1/2 the system as stated in ea11001 - the pedal goes to the floor! this is severely dangerous!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

In the past month i have had to replace brake lines on my 2002 chevy tahoe.the vehicle is originally from michigan and i know things rust there, but this is ridiculous! driving down the road and no warning or warning light. The pedal just goes down to the floor without any resistance and when the fluid is out then on only then does the brake light warning come on.this past time i ended up putting it in a ditch to avoid hitting another vehicle!from all the posts on the internet i see that this is a recurring problem and a definitely safety issue!!! fortunately i have taken defensive driving courses through law enforcement training and had a bit more savvy as to how to handle this type of situation. How about the little old lady that has no idea what to do??? now, again for the third time it has to go into the shop to replace faulty and corroded brake lines!!! shouldn't something be done if this is such a re-curring problem with gm and the chevy trucks?

I was driving along came to the traffic light no brakes when i push the peddle all the way to the floor then the truck stop when i had the brakes check the person said all my brake lines is rusted and the reason i have no brakes one has a leak i could have got kill or i could have kill someone this is a serious problem that needs to be fix i had no warning this thing was going to brake or rust out like that .

While approaching a stop sign at a "t" intersection on a local set of residential roads, the brakes completely failed on my tahoe. I did not have enough pedal to stop for the stop sign and blew through the intersection, thankfully without striking any cars. Upon inspection i found brake fluid streaming from the brake line where it was mounted to the frame at the left rear wheel well. I was able to pump up the brakes enough to limp the 3 miles at about 20 mph back to my house for a repair. I was quite dismayed to learn of all the problems that exist with rusted gm truck brake lines. I plan to replace the entire set this spring with a set of stainless steel ones but really would prefer that gm do it, since they are the ones who made the brake lines out of substandard materials to begin with.

When stopping for a traffic light, brake pedal pushed to the floor.vehicle stopped but noticed brake fluid under car and determined that brake line ruptured due to being rusted.

Brake pedal went to the floor when attempting to slow down. No warning at all. Had just applied the brakes a few minutes earlier with no problem. I was able to just get the truck home the few miles from the highway. I checked the truck over thinking the brake master cylinder had failed but discovered that the brake line running along the frame to the rear of the truck had rusted, was ruptured, and leaking brake fluid. The truck is well maintained. I was lucky that there was no other vehicles near me when it happened.

Coming to a stop the brakes kind of slipped and car would not stop as it should. Abs light also came on. And also made a grinding noise.

The first complaint number 10465492; addresses the fact that my brake lines rusted out and the fluid leaked out leaving me with little brake power.. To add insult to injury after they replaced my brake lines i was told that they could not bleed them so i needed a new manifold.it cost $350 which brings the total from 813 to $1350.i'm so frustrated.mechanics said that the current recall would not have solved the problem but i should call gm and see if they would reimburse some of the cost since the problem is prevalent in many 2002 tahoes.

I came out of my house, started my truck to warm it up . Then idrove to the corner of my block, and my brakes suddenly went all the way to the floor.i proceeded to add brake fluid not sure what the problem was .there was no response afterpumping the brakes multiple times,my vehicle is an 02 chevy tahoe . So i drove the car very slowly and cautiously back to the house. Ilooked up this problem on the internet . When i found that their were problems surrounding the speed sensor and breaking of this vehicle.i could have been getting on the highway when this occurred on thanksgiving day.

The rear brake line rusted through and there was a significant loss in brake power. This happened when i stopped at a store.

Traveling at 35 mph i went to stop for a traffic light. My brakes failed without warning, the pedal went to the floor. I continued through the intersection and drifted to a stop. The line burst at the frame rail on the driver's side. A close inspection shows that all of the brake lines are in need of replacement. The rust on the lines, as well as the frame, are unreal. I have never my vehicle looks like it has been sitting in a river. I have worked on and restored cars for the last 25 years, but i have never seen a vehicle this new rust so fast. The body looks great. The only blessing was the line blew out the evening before i took my family on a 300 mile trip to the beach. I could see us all dead on interstate 95 because of a brake failure.

Noticed wet spot in driveway and checked to see what the problem was. Turned out it was major leak from corroded brake line; no warning lights ever came on but brake fluid was almost empty by the time we got it to the mechanic the next morning. Thank goodness my husband was diligent enough to notice the leak as we were getting ready to drive the 8 hours back home through the mountains and a brake failure could have been catastrophic. We had the brake line repaired and now 4 weeks later, another leak has occurred and again, no warning lights have come on. I could almost tolerate the issue of the corroded lines if the sensors adequately told me that the vehicle was not operating correctly. But, the fact that i now feel like i am driving a vehicle that may or may not stop when i need it to and have no indication of the failure before hand is very scary. I have read through the complaints, and i am not the only one that has experienced this. I do not understand why this has been an open investigation for 2 years and nothing yet has been done about this.

Dealer inspection of brake tubes (lines) indicate massive corrosion. Dealer recommends complete replacement of all brake lines and possibly calipers due to rust and corrosion.

My abs activates under 5mph on dry roads.there was a recall for this problem but my truck doesn't qualify.this is a known issue and they can "walk away" saying my vin is not affected.bunch of garbage - i've been a chevy guy for ever and worked at a chevy dealership - this causes me to loose some faith.dealerships have the ability to help but there hands are tied by gm.sad!!

Abs and brake lights remain on after tahoe is cranked and driven.

When i was pull a trailer down to a red lights my brakes went to the floor and had swerve to not hit the cars in front of me i got it on the side of the rood then the brake light cam on it scared the hell out of me my daughter was not with me she is two if some thing happened it would have devastated me or hurt some one i was pulling a trailer that 1000 tractor.

While dfriving my 2002 tahoe i was nearing the traffic intersection and began applying the brake. The pedal went straight to the floor and i couldnt stop the vehicle. I panicked as an 18 wheeler was making a turn and i was going to hit it. I hit the emergency brake and nothing happened i saw an area with alot of gravel and did my best to aim the car at the gravel. Thank goodness the 18 wheeler sped up and i barely slipped behind it and put it in park nothing happened but a grinding sound at that point i just shut the car off and it slowly stopped. I got it towed and when they jacked it up they said the brake lines where completely rusted out and the reason why the emergency brake didnt work was it was rusted and snapped. Gm needs to do something about this as i and my child could have been killed. There are tons of complaints about this and gm needs to step up before someone gets killed!

I was about to put the truck into drive when the brake pedal felt "soft"..i kept steady pressure on the brake pedal, but the pedal went right to the floor.i put the truck in park..exited the truck and saw brake fluid leaking from under the driver's side door.i looked and saw the brake line was totally corroded and burst, causing the brake fluid to leak out. I then checked under the hood and saw the fluid was very low in the brake fluid reservoir..but also..the brake lines under the hood exhibited signs of excessive corrosion.my local gm dealer is quoting over $2,000 to repair the brake lines... And other local repair shops have informed me that they are replacing a lot of brakes lines on numerous gm models..............

I took my car in to get it serviced as well as have the dealership cheek the brakes. I received a phone call stating that along with the rear brakes on the car, the parking/emergency brake pads needed to be replaced as well because they were having metal on metal contact. I thought it was odd that the parking brakes need to be fixed considering i have never used them before. The dealership finished up with the car and when i got it back, i began to notice some tugging going on when i would be driving through town or anywhere really. It felt as if i was pulling a trailer or boat when i was not. After a few days i noticed that the tugging sensation had began to die down. It was then that i read the parking brakes for this model were somehow receiving some type of contact that caused them to wear down very rapidly. I proceeded to follow the instructions in the manual on how to set the parking brake, considering i had never used it, and when i finished all the steps required, my car proceeded to roll backwards down the very slight incline. I called the dealership and brought the car back in for them to look at it. Turns out, i need new hubs along with a new set of parking brake pads and a few other things in order for the problem to be corrected. It angers me that gm has not issued any sort of statement to owners informing them about the issue. Nor have they issued any sort of recall on the matter. My parents bought the car brand new back in 2002 and drove it before i did. They never used the parking brake either. My brother who drives a silverado of the same year also has had issues with the parking brake not working. There have been reports of the parking brake failing at 25,000 miles for some individuals. There is no telling when the parking brake first went out on my car, but it has been not functioning for a while from what i can gather from the dealership.

Brake failure resulted in a crash.the pedal went to the floor and mechanic verified both front and rear brake lines burst from corrosion.

The vehicle had five passengers and was loaded for a week at the beach. A brake line ruptured and the peddle went right to the floor. Zero prior warning, no spongy peddle, no warning light, just catastrophic brake failure. We were very fortunate to have avoided a real tragedy.

I was coming out of my driveway and when i tried to slow down while making a left turn my brakes failed. I travel slowly to the end of my road made a right turn and continued until i was able to make a u turn and get back home. Once i reached home againusing a combination of emergency brakes and eventually placing the transmission in park (once stopped) i was able to stop. I had the truck towed to my mechanic. The mechanic observed that the brake lines were rusted and had failed. All brake lines were replaced to restore my truck to service. Incidentally i have a friend that had also bought a chevy tahoe in 2002. The week before my brake line failed his brake line failed - also rusted out.

Un-expectant failure of corroded brake linewife was operating a 2002 chevrolet tahoe on a 4 lane divided highway at approximately 45 mph.when approaching an intersection, the light turned red and when she applied the brakes, the brake pedal ??went to the floor?? and the vehicle could not be stopped before entering the intersection.wife kept pressure on the pedal and the vehicle finally came to a complete stop approximately 50 yards beyond the intersection.she was able to pull the vehicle into a parking lot a short distance later.figuring the vehicle traveled approximately 100 yards from first applying the brakes until the vehicle came to a complete stop.upon inspection, determined that one of the brake lines ruptured just below the driver??s side door.the line that ruptured was very corroded in the vicinity of the rupture.all of the brake lines in the vicinity of the rupture also appear to be very corroded.plans are to replace all of the brake lines.had a similar problem with a 1999 pontiac grand prix where one of the brake lines failed un-expectantly due to corrosion.all of the brake lines on the grand prix were also replaced at the time of repair.both vehicles are/were well maintained and garaged.

Brakes stopped working with no warning!!! unbelievable, thank god i was in a parking lot and able to very gently come to a stop by mashing on the brakes and hitting a parking curb. After a little research online it looks like there's a case you have opened for the same issue. When will there be a recall? does someone have to die? has someone died from this? we'll probably never know because who would think the brake lines would just go like that. Again, no warning, no lights, still no indicator light on!!!i apologize for my excitement but i'm just shocked this is a known issue and it hasn't been addressed. I consider hitting the curb to stop my vehicle a "crash". I know it doesn't compare to real crashes but given the circumstances. . .

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the brakes became inoperable. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the brake line was rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.

Heading home from fireworks show with 3 children in the vehicle. Applied the brakes in our driveway... Nothing, straight to the floor. I have delivered mail since 2000 (not in this vehicle ), i have had my share of brake problems. This complete failure of brakes was the worst i had ever experienced. If it were not for quick thinking and my husband's actions, we would have plowed head on into our home.i hate to think what would have happened if we could not stop at the 5 intersections on the way home. Both brake lines blew, rust, corrosion and now untold amounts of stories just like ours. I have always driven chevrolet vehicles. Not anymore! if i have to tow this beast to the dealership to unload it, i will. I will go to a chevy dealership and buy a toyota. They can have this mess that they created. 5 lives were at risk last night. This is completely unacceptable.

At low speed the antilock brakes are activating for no reason.this vehicle was part of the recall performed in 2006.the issues have returned and the dealership will not support any repairs unless i pay for them.the recall was performed at 36,000 miles the vehicle has 95,000 on it now.

I started to notice "mushiness" in my brake pedal, especially when i was stopped at a light or stop sign. The vehicle wanted to push or drift. I noticed spotting on my carport floor. I examined my brake lines and they are very corroded, and considering they are stainless, they are not holding up and are failing prematurely. The vehicle only has 69000 miles on it. I checked my brake fluid and it was very low. On my way to purchase brake fluid, my warning light finally alerted me to the low fluid condition. It required an entire bottle to full the reservoir.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, he applied the brake and the pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle failed to decelerate and there was an extreme increase in stopping time. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that one of the brake lines suffered from severe corrosion and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 134,000. ..updated 10-22-13

While exiting the highway on the off ramp from 60 miles an hour, i attempted to slow the vehicle for exit by braking. Upon doing so, the brake pedal went completely to the floor without any warning and without slowing the vehicle. The exit ramp has a traffic light at its end and fortunately it was green with out vehicles in my path. I continued through the intersection at a high rate of speed and was able to coast, with the speed diminishing into a parking lot and slowly apply the parking brake. Horrifying experience. This first incident occurred in july 2012 and cost $600 to replace the front brake lines that had rusted through at 96k miles.the second incident occurred today, almost a year and 10,000 miles later. Same issue, pedal to the floor, no warning and no brakes. Once again luck was on my side, as this happened in a parking lot at a slow speed. This repair will be $2000 for the remainder of the brake lines that have rusted through. After reading all of the same, near identical complaints, of these vehicles leaving their owners without any warning or brakes, general motors should be sued by class action for taking no action and this government safety department brought to do their job and issue a recall!!!!!!!!!

I was pulling into a local gas station and the abs cause me to not stop in time.. I ended up hitting the building... Cracking the brick work... The night before u notice the same thing... Hopping when i was at a slow speed trying to stop but this was very brief and i stopped... I looked on line and saw there was a recall for the wheel speed sensor.. This defect cause increase stopping distance... I then called chevrolet to see if the recall affect my vehicle, but the only open recall was a head restraint.. I took it to a local chevy dealer to get it fixed, as i was driving there the abs light came on.. The code the pulled was for the front right wheel speed sensor. They did have the part available due to the recall which fit my vehicle, but yet mine was not recalled...

I have an 02 chevy tahoe with only 70,000 miles on it garage kept was driving down the road one day and brake pedal went right to the floor almost crashed brake fluid all over the floor we looked under the vehicle and it was total rust and corroded i called the dealer to see if there was a recall they said that this is a known problem and i said that it should be a recall i almost got killed we take care of our vehicles very well and garage kept i can't afford the price of the brake lines or the labor i think that this should be recalled immediately i have read all the testimonials i don't understand what is the hold up on the recall it should be done immediately.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. While driving at approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the brake pedal pumped back and made it difficult to slow down without warning. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The failure mileage was approximately 136,000. My wife was driving vehicle and tried to apply brakes and they went completely to the floor. She had no brakes and shecoasted into a parking lot and put the transmission in park. Very lucky no accident because the brake lines rusted out under the vehicle an had no warning or lights to show problems.

Traveling at 65mph, wet pavement, brake to exit parkway, brakes failed, almost crashed, skidded off exit. Brakes went to the floor. Took car to shop, brake line ruptured from rust, no warning.

I was towing a 4200 lbs travel trailer leaving for a vacation trip.while traveling down a hill the brake pedal went to the floor.near total brake failure.i applied the emergency trailer brake and used low gear to stop.i just avoided hitting a stopped car in the intersection in front of me due to the traffic lightbeing red.i brought my 2002 chevrolet tahoe ls to mavis tire.they showed me the brake lines under the truck.all four lines were rotted out and had to be replaced for a cost of around $1300.00if this is a problem with 1998-2004 gm full size suv's and pick-up's, other owners better beware!

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph and depressing the brakes, the brakes malfunctioned and the vehicle would failed to stop. The contact indicated that after inspecting the vehicle he discovered that brake fluid would leak from the vehicle when depressing the brake pedal and the brake lines were rusted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,419.

Driving vehicle down highway at 45 mph when applied brakes. The pedal fell to the floor. No brakes. Had been driving for 30 min. The main steel line going to the rear brakes has a rusted hole in line. When brake is applied fluid squirts out.

The integrity of the brake lines gave causing the brake pedal to go all the way to the floor.this caused a severe negative impact on the trucks stopping ability.all front brake lines needed to be replaced including the calipers.total $640.00.

Brake line burst from being so rusty, unable to stop in time, was able to veer off to side to avoid collision.

Brake lines are severely corroded on this vehicle and my wife almost crashed because of the complete loss of braking from rotten tubing.

I was driving down my street doing 20 mph when i came to a red light and the brake pedal went down to the floor enabling me to stop. After pumping the brakes i realized that i couldn't slow down this is when i used my emergency brakes. After making a u-turn to come back to my home, i looked under the rear driver side tire and seen that the line was leaking and it was all rusteed. I was terrified because i had my 7 week old daughter in the vehicle with me. Then i did some research and found that i was not the only person with this problem.

Antilock brake light comes on and want go off. Brakes works fine.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the abs system activated, causing the vehicle to stop unexpectedly. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer for a diagnostic test. The dealer could not identify a defect with the vehicle. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign i.d. 05v103000 (service brakes, hydraulic) but the contact did not call the manufacturer to confirm if the vehicle was included in the recall. The failure mileage was 148,000.

This defect could have resulted in death if it had not happen in a parking lot at slow speed.no warning lights or other indicators, brake lines to the front of abs unit burst which resulted in total loss of braking.

Total brake failure will all my children in car!!!!! luckily nobody was hurt filing complaint with gm!!!!!extremely luck it was not a fatal day for all of us!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had vehicle inspected. Mechanic, who is very good, told me brake lines starting to rust. This latest inspection showed issue getting worse. Was told eventually will have to be replaces. Expensive.

When i brake my brakes pump and it's like the abs is trying to kick in sometimes i have to push pedal all the way to the floor in order to stop with out an incident. Had new brakes installed and still the problem is there.

Ea11001 brake pedal suddenly went to the floor during braking, hit pole. Repair center showed me a batch of rusted brake lines entering the abs box underneath the drivers side door. There was fluid leaking from that group of lines, four of them together. Searching the internet, i have found there are thousands of complaints and news shows about this issue and yet, you have done little. Brake line located between the brake control module and the rear axle ruptured above the fuel tank during a stop from 45mph for a stop light causing me to have to veer into the right hand turn lane and ultimately turned into the cross traffic pattern.fortunately, there was no traffic at the time so there was no crash.it is also fortunate that i was pulling a trailer with brakes to aid in my stopping or it may have been worse.

My wife was driving the vehicle and went to stop and had lost brake power.one of the lines running to the rear brakes had ruptured due to rust/corrosion.i took the vehicle to the repair shop and was told that all of my brake lines and fuel lines had rusted/corroded so bad they could not repair just the one but would need to replace all of the lines!

Traveling at 15mph on flat sidestreet, applied brakes to slow vehicle.brake pedal went to floor.vehicle narrowly avoided rear end impact with another car by steering into curb to stop my vehicle.upon inspection, steel brake lines corroded and failed under vehicle on drivers side below drivers seat.brake fluid squirting underneath vehicle and no braking ability.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while coming to a stop, the abs activated independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the sensor and the wheel bearing needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 145,000.

Catastrophic brake failure while going downhill to an intersection with a stop sign.in mid-afternoon, while approaching a stop sign while heading downhill and attempting to stop, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.pumping the brake pedal did not help.there was no warning of the failure and no warning light.i tried to apply the parking brake but it did not slow down the vehicle.fortunately, no vehicle was stopped at the stop sign and there was no traffic on the cross road i was entering.i managed to shift into neutral and slow down enough to roll through the intersection and onto the right berm of the cross road where i waited for a tow truck.my mechanic said that there was brake fluid in the system, but that the brake lines were corroded and had failed, and had to be replaced.i'm very lucky to be alive.$1,201.81 later, i'm back on the road.

Brake lines corroded leading to complete braking failure.

Brake line rupture due to corrosion and rust.created unsafe stopping distances.vehicle is unable to come to complete stop using just the normal hydraulic brakes.

First recall as: nhtsa campaign id number :05v379000 i have experienced unwanted anti-lock brake activation during low speed braking. This has occurred several times in the past year (2012-2013), which would have resulted in a crash without evasive maneuvers and luck. I have called chevrolet several times to ask about the original recall, which my vehicle was a part in. My vehicle was serviced in the first recall, which requires the technicians to inspect and clean the speed sensors. Well i guess the sensors have become dirty again and symptoms are recurring (vehicle has been in the "salt belt" area its entire life). Chevrolet will not service vehicle under current recall. I still see many of these popular vehicles on the road and think that their sensors may too become dirty again causing accidents. I think that it is due diligence for chevrolet to continue to "clean" these sensors since they have issued a previous recall and the only fix was to "clean" the sensor and surface. Thank you for your time.

I was driving on a 2 lane road in millersville maryland, i hit my brakes and the pedal went to the floor.i had no brakes.i was able to avoid other vehicles and made a turn onto another road that had an incline.the vehicle finally stopped.i looked around the vehicle and saw that brake fluid was leaking from the rear driver's side of the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to a mechanic, who determined that a driver's side rear brake line had rusted through and leaked brake fluid .i was extremely lucky not to have crashed myself or injured other drivers.very, very dangerous situation.

My truck is having the exact same problem as noted in recall #05068, nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000, but they state my vin number is excluded from the recall.this car was operated in michigan.at low speed, coming up to an intersection under 5 mph, for example, the abs kicks on and lurches the car forward.i read this has to do with the wheel speed sensors.this has been happening and getting worse for the past year.

The abs kicks in at slow speeds while stopping in normal conditions.had all new brakes put on and the problem continues. Checked recall status on my vehicle and the year and symptoms of recall were found at nhtsa id#05v379000 / gm recall #05068.called chevy and they said my vehicle didn't qualify for recall due to it's vin.very upset because my vehicle fits exactly what is on recall and gm wont fix it.

Rear brake like rusted out located on top of the frame rail above the gas tank on the drivers side.all other brake lines are very rusty.

The brakes on my truck are engaging the abs at low speed stops.this is causing a loss of breaking at the critical last few feet of stopping. This problem is occurring on smooth dry pavement.your 2008 action number pe05020 was a recall specific to my problem.checking for a recall on my truck showed no specific recall for my vin. Both my local dealership and the gm representative at 800-222-1020 tell me that i have to pay for any repairs out of my own pocket because there is no "recall" on my vehicle.i am concerned for my safety and the safety of my family every time we drive the vehicle.is there anything you can do to have this problem fixed?

Prepared to leave the house, stepped on the brakes to put in gear and pedal went to floor.had towed to dealer where was informed all brake lines had to be replaced due to corrosion failure.there was no warning, no fluid on the ground, just sudden catastrophic failure.cost $2300.00 due to body having to be lifted from frame.now, a few months later fuel lines have suddenly failed for the same reason, i.e.: low grade cheaply made steel used in high corrosion area.again the body lift required, estimated cost $2300.00.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. While driving at a slow speed, the brake pedal was depressed and there was an increase in stopping distance. In addition, there was an abnormal noise coming from the brake pedal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. The vin was unavailable.

The abs keeps engaging during low speed stopping and parking maneuvers, dry conditions. This is increasing braking distance when approaching slowing traffic and is very alarming. We nearly had an accident when this happened. I called a local dealer, and they said that "recall work" had been performed for this issue in 2005, and i was on my own for the repair. I think this is a major design flaw and gm should cover the repair indefinitely unless a design improvement was created. A car should stop when you need it too, not continue on its course and speed ignoring my input. It seems to me that they replaced parts of a bad design with parts of the same design then there was no design improvement to prevent a recurrence when the "recall work" was performed. I think this is a major flaw in the recall process. What recourse to i have now? i know several owners ofmid-2000's chevy trucks with this issue, and it keeps coming back if you own the truck long enough. What is being done? i should not have to keep paying for repairs.

While traveling at highway speeds vehicle wanders left and right and abs light appears. Codes are "erratic wheel speed" mechanic diagnosed front wheel hubs worn and must be replaced unknown if covered by possible recall due to unable to find part number. Also while turning left and right a "knocking clunking" noise is heard from front suspensions. Mechanic diagnosed worn idler arms after being replaced with oem. This can lead to loss of steering causing accident or injury. Also premature wear of rear brakes compared to front brakes. Mechanic cannot diagnose and dealer cannot diagnose.

Steel brake lines - corrosion - lost braking power due to corrosion of brake lines.

Brake line failure - was pulling out of parking lot and luckily there were no cars in area . Rolled down block until vehicle stopped.

My daughter was driving my 2002 tahoe on major highway at rush hour, brake light came on and when she stepped on the brake the second or third time it went right to the floor with 90% of braking ability gone. Was able to avoid collision by pulling to side of highway and slowly stopping. Brake failure caused by rusted out rear brake line and had to have all four lines replaced due to rust.

Replaced brakes on rear of tahoe go to bleed them a hard brake line busted. Looked at leaking area nothing but rust caked brake lines.could have been bad if i was driving when this happened.

I have an 02 tahoe z71 that recently i've been having brake problems at slow speeds when trying to stop like the abs is trying to kick in randomly between about 5 to 15 mph when slowing for red-lights or stop signs there's times i have to let off and reapply brake 2 to 3 times at least before it will actually stop without the abs kicking in. I read about some recalls on this on 02 tahoes but my vin said i had 0 unfixed recalls

When driving at low speed and coming to a stop the abs light comes on and the brakes slip and grind where it takes twice as long to stop the car. I have had the car looked at and was told all pads and rotors are fine also told it could possibly be a problem with the the abs system.

The brake line on my 2002 chevy tahoe busted while stopped at a busy intersection june 2014. The brake peddle was depressed after a normal stop when all pressure went away and i began rolling forward into the intersection before pushing the brake firmly to the floor to halt the vehicle. Upon pulling over i discovered a leak in the line mid-body of the vehicle and a empty brake fluid reservoir. After doing some research i discovered this is a common problem gm refuses to fix.the second incident happened on february 14th 2015 when stopping at another intersection which i almost went through. I again discovered a break in the line at roughly in the same spot. The shop told me the abs had rusted through.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while traveling 10 mph, the anti-lock braking system falsely engaged, causing a decrease in braking power. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's home. The contact stated that the previous owner of the vehicle had repairs performed under nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) but the problem persisted. The manufacturer had not been contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 153,000.

Tried to stop when i went to use the brakes i wasn't able to press them all of the way down. The brakes locked and there was an extreme vibration.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. While driving 15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle did not stop. The abs and the service brake warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 208,000.

Brakes failed without warning while at speed on a highway coming to a stop light. No brakes. No dash light until complete failure of the entire system. Split system failed. No brakes. Collision with telephone pole. Injury to occupants. Fluid leaking from rusted brake lines near abs pump under driver side door. This is the second 2002 tahoe that we have owned with this exact same failure. Both failed completely without warning. Neither system indicated any anomaly before total failure. Split system did not work. Both failed in the same place. The complaints on this are everywhere! - where is the nhtsa ?????? wtf is wrong with you people ??this has caused injury to many and no recall?

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while testing the parking brake at 6000 rpms or higher, the brake would not hold the vehicle in place. The contact stated that if he needed to apply the parking brake while driving 60 mph or higher, the brakes would fail. The contact had not spoken to the dealer or manufacturer about the failure. The failure and current mileage was 176,000. The vin was not available.

I was crossing two lanes of traffic to take an exit ramp when the car in front of me came to a complete stop.i pressed the brakes on my tahoe and the vehicle began to slow down, however, when i went over a rough area in the road the brakes released despite me pushing on the brake pedal.i ended up rear ending the stopped vehicle in front of me due to the brakes releasing on the rough part of the road.i have encountered this numerous times when i try to apply the brakes on a rough portion of road.

While coming to a stop sign, i began to press on the brake as i was stopping my brake pedal started to vibrate. Causing my vehicle to skid just past the stop sign. This has been going on if my abs light on the dashboard is off, my braking is ok. But when the abs warning light is not on i get that vivratiing feeling on my brake pedal just when i'm about to come to a full stop, kinda like pulsating. I been searching in the internet about cases like this and there are recalls, i need to know how can i include my vehicle in the recall. The area that i live in is really close to the ocean.

My wife and i own a 2002 chevrolet tahoe.on april 9, 2005 my wife and young daughter were approaching a stop sign in north knoxville, tennessee.my wife applied the brakes at a speed of approximately 10 -15 mph.initially, she felt pressure in the brake pedal then the pedal completely depressed to the floor, absent of all pressure.as a result of the brake failure she rear-ended the car in front of her which in turn rolled into the car in front of them (a total of 3 vehicles were involved).the police officer that worked the accident checked the brakes and immediately had the vehicle towed due to inoperable brakes.as a result my wife was not cited in the accident.damage was minimum to the other 2 cars, however repair costs to our tahoe was approximately $4300.one of the other drivers complained of a hurt knee/leg and another driver complained of an injured back.my wife and daughter experienced no injuries.the extent of the other two injuries are unknown. The dealer inspected the brakes and indicated that they were in acceptable condition and reported there were no repairs necessary. I have driven the vehicle the past 2 weeks and they do appear to be operating properly.however, i have scheduled to have the brake system inspected by an independent dealer this week.i read a story on fox news indicating gm was under investigation for brake failures at low speeds and i wanted to submit my claim for consideration as our situation appears to be similar to previous incidents.

Abs sensor malfunctioning, failure to stop at low speeds. Current recall does not extend to florida.safety issue is not confined to 'rust belt/salt belt' northern states.

I have a 2002 chevy tahoe with a brake issue that i have been reading up on. The abs brakes are applying for no reason at low speeds each time i apply my brake. I called my dealer and gm direct and they said they would not cover it in a recall. I have done quit a bit of research and have read alot about the problem and how dangerous this is and i feel as though they should take care of it 100%. It is now to the point that it is unsafe to even drive.

Abs pump motor running continuously even after you turn off vehicle.

This is the second time that my abs control module has failed on my truck.the first time it was covered by the vehicle warranty. The second time it is not covered by warranty.the first and second time for failure has occurred within approx 4 years of each other.i have received a quote of approx. $1,800.00 "just" for the part alone to fix this.

My vehicles abs light just came on for no reason and it takes longer to come to a complete stop when pressing on the brakes.also, after turning the vehicle off, it sounds like something under the hood is still running and the battery is drained.

I walked into my garage at night to see it filled with smoke, plastic smelling and coming from underneathwhen i looked under the 2002 tahoe i saw a red glowing ball and a lot of smoke coming from abs box by the fuel filter.i backed it out of the garage and far away from my housewhen i stopped and looked underand there was a burned black smuge box .is there a recall on this tahoe?

The abs kicks in at slow speeds while stopping in normal conditions.had all new brakes put on and the problem continues. Checked recall status on my vehicle and the year and symptoms of recall were found at nhtsa id#05v379000 / gm recall #05068.called chevy and they said my vehicle didn't qualify for recall due to it's vin.very upset because my vehicle fits exactly what is on recall and gm wont fix it.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 4 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle failed to slow down when the brake pedal was depressed.after depressing the brake pedal to the floor several times, the vehicle came to a complete stop.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.recently, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the antilock brake system.the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock), although the failures were identical.the vehicle is currently being repaired.the failure mileage was 175,000 and current mileage was 184,000.

I had a complete brake failure on my 2002 tahoe after driving at hwy speeds, no warning lights, nothing, could have been catastrophic, and or deadly. Brake lines completely rusted under drivers door along frame..like hundreds, and thousands of other complaints of same exact problem, same location. To replace all of my brake lines except the rear lines, which were replaced 2 years ago for the same problem, it cost me $800. Recall needed before somebody is seriously injured, or killed.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. When coming to a stop and depressing the brake pedal, the abs would not activate to stop the vehicle; the vehicle would skid when the brakes were applied. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the dealer stated that she would have to pay for a diagnostic test to find the cause of the problem. The contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

2002 chevrolet tahoe.consumer writes in regards to vehicle brake line corrosion.the consumer lost braking without warning. He was able to avoid a serious accident. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and upon inspection, it was found that one of the rear brake lines had ruptured due to brake line corrosion, which caused a loss of brake fluid. In addition, the front brake lines exhibited the same problem.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that after taking the vehicle to the dealer for routine service, he was advised that all of the brake lines were severely rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired nor was the manufacturer contacted. The failure and the current mileages were approximately 200,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the abs and brake lights would intermittently illuminate. When the contact would attempt to stop, the brakes would not engage automatically. She also noticed a buzzing noise when the vehicle was turned on and off, which she stated would drain the battery. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000 and the current mileage was 125,528.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe k1500. While driving approximately 15 mph, the contact stated that the vehicle continued to accelerate while depressing the brakes. She was able to engage the emergency brake and shifted the vehicle into park. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the contact was informed that the brake line was rusted and corroded. I was traveling on a parkway, and had to brake when traffic ahead started to slow down. The truck started to slow down, but while i was still traveling approx. 35-40mph (was orig. Driving 55.... Normal highway speed when i started to brake) when the brake pedal went to the floor, and i lost all braking. The only reason i didn't rear end the car in front of me was because there was no car in the lane to my right at the time. I rolled to the side of the road (luckily near an exit), and after turning on my hazard lights, my friend who was in the passenger seat and witnessed the entire thing, and i got out of the truck. He opened the hood, and i got down on the ground and looked under the truck. It was obvious where the problem was, as there was brake fluid leaking down from above the area of the center (gear housing) of the rear axle.i slowly drove (walking speed) the truck from the shoulder to the exit and into a gas station a few blocks away. The owner was closing up, but was nice enough to take my truck and promised to work on it the next morning. I got a local hotel room for the night, as we were no where near home. The next morning, the mechanic said my truck was done. He replaced both brake lines in the rear of my truck and bled the system. He recommended i drive cautiously straight home (which i did uneventfully), but every brake line in the truck (and fuel line) would need to be replaced due to rust. My truck is in my driveway awaiting a robert chevrolet (ny) appt. In 3 days. Btw, this bought new by me truck has low mileage, and i have receipts piled 1/2" high for between $3,000-$4,000 (out of pocket) worth of brake related brake repairs on this truck, and it doesn't take much searching on the internet to realize this is not a isolated case. Please look in to this because someone's going to get killed. Hopefully not already.

Approaching intersection attempted to stop for red light, brake pedal went to floor with very diminished braking. Fortunately it was a saturday evening and there was no car in front of me and none coming through the intersection. Inspection showed rear brake line split after abs due to excessive rust. Two days later and we would have been on vacation driving in the mountains. The day and time is the only reason the occupants walked away.there was no brake idiot light or message center message to indicate a problem. The brake idiot light does work when the key is turned on.

2002 chevrolet tahoe experiencing unwanted antilock braking system activation at low speed.a recall for the exact same symptoms has been issued.i called chevrolet at the number stated in the recall and was told it does not apply to my vehicle thus chevrolet will not repair the defect on my vehicle.i find it an unimaginable coincidence that i have the very same year/model vehicle exhibiting the exact same symptoms as stated in the recall yet chevrolet states that it does not apply to my vehicle and will not perform the repairs under the recall.the gm recall # is 05068, nhtsa campaign id # is 05v379000 and the nhtsa action # is pe0502.my vehicle should be repaired under this recall.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicles abs system activated and the brakes failed to activate when engaged. As a result, the contact crashed onto the back another vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop who diagnosed that the failure was a result of a faulty speed sensor. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 155,000.

He stated that the abs warning light would illuminate intermittently and the failure would only occur when driving at low speeds. The failure had been ongoing since august 2010. He called the manufacturer and was advised that his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:anti lock). The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000 and the current 117,000.

2002 chevy tahoe. While driving attempted to slow down for a red light and drifted through it just missed getting hit by a tractor trailer. Got the trucked stopped and had found the brake lines at the antilock brake controller are corroded and leaking.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact was driving 5 mph when the braking system malfunctioned, causing an increase in stopping distance. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) and the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where he was advised that his vehicle was not included in the recall. The dealer recommended having a diagnostic performed on the vehicle. The vehicle was neither diagnosed for the failure nor repaired. The failure mileage was 82,000.

My 2002 chevy tahoe antilock brakes have malfunctioned and i was unable to stop at the stop sign because my vehicle kept going. I was going at a low rate of speed and there was a scrubbing sound. My vehicle went through the stop sign and i cam to a stop in the middle of the intersection. I contacted my mechanic and he stated that it sounded like the antilock brakes and said that there had been a recall. I looked it up online and found there had been a recall. I contacted gm and was told that my particular vehicle wasn't part of the recall nhtsa #05v379000 because my vin number wasn't listed. My mechanic said this is not the first time he's heard of this particular vehicle having this same problem.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe.while driving less than 60 mph, the brakes made a loud dragging sound when the pedal was depressed.in addition, the abs warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel.through online research, the contact discovered recalls on the vehicle, but was not sure if they pertained to his particular vehicle.the failure and current mileages were 131,000.

Brake system failure due to excessive corrosion of brake lines, 2002 chevy tahoe: a complete failure of the brakes due to a leak in the brake lines due to extensive corrosion of the brake lines.an inspection of the brake lines revealed a leak (developed suddenly) and the entire set of brake lines are heavily corroded along their entire length.the only reason this did not cause an accident was the leak developed suddenly before the truck was started.

I just was told by the gm dealer that my brake lines are rusted out and need to be replaced as they will eventually fail. I have only 160,500 miles on the vehicle.the chevrolet dealer said that gm will not cover costs of $1,200.never had any prior chevy tahoe's that i owned have any issues like this.

My anti-lock brakes on my 2002 chevrolet tahoe come on every time i try to stop while turning.it started about 2 weeks ago when i slid on the ice and continues to do it every time i brake while turning now.was almost in an accident yesterday when it did it while trying to stop while driving straight was not turning and now it is making a very weird noise just driving sounds like popping and squealing and clunking called chevrolet regarding the recall was told my vehicle wasn't in the recall after arguing about the recall area and explaining problem in more depth was placed on hold to investigate more indepth and then alisa smith came back on the line and told me my vehicle was in the recall and was already fixed.well apparently it wasn't fixed or it wouldn't still be doing what it was recalled for in the first place. I just bought this vehicle in october 2008 and am very upset about this problem.thank you for your help in this issue.

I was en route to the local gas station to fuel up my vehicle to return home from a road trip. As i approached the stop sign and applied my brakes, my vehicle failed to stop and i traveled right through the intersection and drove off the road into the ditch in order to stop. It appears that the brake line has actually corroded through just under the drivers side door, as i left a trail of fluid behind.i thank god i wasn't already on the highway with my family, or this may have been tragic. We didn't make our trip, but are happy to be alive. A friend helped move my vehicle to the garage where it still sits waiting to be repaired.

Dt: the consumer was having a problem with 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The abs system activated at low speeds. This has caused a couple of near misses because of the abs kicking in. This is happening around 90 % of the time. The consumer has just had the brakes and rotors replaced , and this has not helped the situation.the consumer will call gm today, and the dealership has confirmed that it was the abs system activating.the consumer was upset that she saw the tbs from the dealership and she thought that gm should have corrected this problem long before now. The speed is 20 or below.

Unwanted activation of anti-lock brakes. It has happened several times in the last two months and is very dangerous. I noticed that there is a product recall for this very issue and want something done about it.

At slow speeds and usually under damp conditions, the antilock brakes on my 2002 tahoe take hold when i am stopping and allow the car to continue at least 10 feet ahead into the roadway with no stopping the vehicle.condition can easily cause accidents as i have had numerous close calls.no codes appear on auto computer when i take it to the dealer.there is a recall #05v379000 that exactly explains the situation but since my vin# does not seem to be included in the recall, chevrolet will do nothing about the situation which has been ongoing since march of 2004.i have had the vehicle in many times and just discovered on my own that sept 22, 2005 this recall came out.i had the vehicle to sigel chevrolet for the third time on sept 14, 2005 and was once again told that the brakes were functioning properly.they could not duplicate the situation so it must not be happening.when i nearly hit our garage door on 11/16/2007 with my husband as a passenger in the car, i went looking for any recall information and found that there was one out there but the dealer told me it did not apply to me and so did chevrolet customer service who has a file on this now (#71-578554426) but they still denied there is anything they should be doing.on 11/30/07 i took the vehicle in again for a diagnosis as suggested by chevrolet customer service and again they found nothing but i requested the dealer perform the remedy that is explained on the recall notice and i paid for that service to be done.

Dt: the 2002 tahoe abs defect in them. Called gm they are not going to warranty the vehicles in new hampshire, because they have not received a recall letter. There is no recall in new hampshire, because they are recall the ones canada. The brakes at a slow speed are activating, and took to a gm dealer and gm will not reimburse. Testing and found the abs sensors corroded and gap spread, per gm tech at dealership. The consumer has corrected the problem at own expense and wants reimbursment!!

The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnose or repaired. Dt:consumer says that abs light keeps coming on. When the consumer applies the brakes, he says that the vehicle pulls to the right. Consumer went to dealer and they said that if he continues to drive vehicle, it will eventually lock up. Consumer asked about a recall and dealer said that there is some kind of recall in the north part of the nation, but his vehicle is not included. Consumer wants his vehicle to be include in the recall to get it fixed. Consumer wants to reimbursed in full for costs of fixing problem.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated when coming to a stop and depressing the brakes, the abs sensor would engage independently and cause the vehicle to lunge forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the contact that there was a recall for the failure under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock), which was repaired in 2006.the manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 47,663 and the current mileage was 91,000. Updated 03/10/11 updated 03/14/11

The abs activates at slow speeds(anything below 10 mph) whether you are going forward or reverse. It causes the vehicle to travel longer distances in order to stop, not mentioning scareing the devil out of the driver. I have had the brake pads replaced and it seems to do it more often.

Dt:the contact stated abs brakesystem malfunctioned. The dealer and manufacturer informed the contactthathis state of residencewas not included in nhtsarecall 05v379000 concerning anti lock brakes. The consumer stated when he applied the brakes, the abs would engage which made it difficult to stop the vehicle. Updated 11/29/05.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. While driving at approximately 10 mph under snowy conditions, the contact depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle did not slow down. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: anti-lock). The failure and current mileages were approximately 60,000.updated 10/28/10 the consumer stated when he depressed the brake pedal, the vehicle slowed down gradually and eventually did stop, but at a ar greater distance than normal. The consumer believed that the computer detected slick road conditions and activated the anti-lock instead of the normal system. However, the abs did not work properly which left little braking capability. The consumer stated the repair cost $ 758.68. Updated 11/01/10

(1)i've recently experienced issues with my anti-lock brakes on my 2002 chevy tahoe.i consulted with my mechanic and understand that if i lived in several states in the "salt belt" or canada, this issue would be considered a safety concern and covered with a recall.however, since i live in minnesota (where we have significant snow and ice each winter, and salt is heavily used on the roads) the recall does not apply.to me, this indicates that my safety is not as important as those in other states who have perceived worse winter conditions? (2) i am going to have to get this issue repaired, and would prefer it to be covered.i just purchased this vehicle (gm certified used) in february and would have hoped it would be in great condition.if i do not get this taken care of, my understanding is that accidents could result from malfunctioning brakes.(3)i have contacted gm in an effort to get this taken care of, so we'll see if they come through.however, my research doesn't give me great confidence.i wanted to file a complaint here in hopes that others from mn (or wi, for that matter) with the same issue wouldn't have the same frustrating experience.

Vehicle traction seems to be slipping when turning right or left.

Dt: 2002 chevrolet tahoe. Having problem with the abs system.ithappened three times. The last time it happened on april15, 2005caroline was coming off ramp at 10 mph there was water draining off side, there was no warning light, the brake pedal wentall the way down, and the car didnot stop. The car was taken to the dealer on april 18,2005, and the dealerstated there wasnothing wrong with the abs system.driver's front door seems to fill with water.no water found in door.door is designed to allow water to go in door and drain out bottom.idle is rough. Dealer let vehicle idle in stall for approximately 30 minutes with no rough idle noted.

Failure of abs speed sensors causes unexpected increased stopping distance.same symptoms as nhtsa campaign id number05v379000.occurs nearly every time you attempt to stop at a slow speed.could be a bigger problem in slippery (i.e. Snow/ice)conditions.abs safety component is to make braking safer, a failure of an abs component should not make things worse. The abs component should be "fail-safe."

A.b.s. Light comes on intermit., when taken to local dealer, they just go under the dash and "reset" the a.b.s. "sensor" after six months, the light comes on and off at different times.they want me to spend $700 .do i have any recourse?

We have a 2002 chevrolet tahoe, traveling at a slow speed, less than 5mph, the anti lock brakes had significant vibration and could not stop the vehicle. Ended up hitting the vehicle in front of us but no damage was incurred.

My tahoe was recalled for a brake sensor issue. (recall # 05v379000) tom gillchevrolet in florence said they could not fix it because i lived in kentucky and not ohio. In the meantime they replaced a power steering pump for $700. They later called me and said i needed all new brakes, and if i let them do that (for $600 more) that they would fix my sensors for free. I declined and took my car to carx. They looked at my brakes and said they were fine. Then i went to pep boys and they also said my brakes were fine, only the (recalled) sensor was bad. I called general motors, and they said because i live in kentucky and not 5 miles away in ohio or 10 miles west in indiana, they would not fix it.this car gets driven in as much snow and ice as any in ohio if not more.i travel for business.i do not trust the brakes as the stopping distance varies in low speed. It's been going on for a long time but is getting much worse.

While driving and/or braking, steering wheel will pull to the left.when braking, steering pullled sharply to the left, resulting in vehicle spinning out twice.dealer found caster and camber out of alignment and performed alignment.

Chevrolet has 3 other cases open that have not been resolved.when applying the brakes hard to stop suddenly the vehicle pulls hard to the right.the dealership has tried tires, brake pads, rotors etc..it appears all new tahoes do this as i drove another brand new one and it does the same thing.the service manager has opened tac case # 5303279 with chevrolet.the service manager informed me that chevrolet already has 3 unresolved cases.the service manager said the problem is in the brake system as the rear passenger brake seems to activate first when brakes are applied hard for a sudden stop.this throws the rest of the vehicle to track to the right which must be abruptly corrected by the driver.the service manager informed me that chevrolet has no fix.the service manager also said they clamped the rear brake lines on my vehicle and this fixed the problem, which proves the problem is in the rear brake system.i am very concerned as i bought this vehicle to tow my boat.if i must apply the brakes suddenly (which can happen quite often when towing) i will lose control of the vehicle.the problem is not noticeable under slow/smooth braking.the problem is worse the faster you are going.therefore, at highway speed the vehicle will easily lose control.i test drove another brand new tahoe at the dealership and it has the exact same problem.the service manager also said he tested a used one and it had the problem as well.

2002 chevy tahoe with noise in steering column for months..60,000 miles....then while driving some cable broke and steering was almost impossible to turn wheel faster than 2 miles and hour.thank goodness my husband was driving.still has noise after replacing cable.crappy issue should be recall.

I was coming home on my road going 30 miles an hour going around the curve 25 if that my steering did not work i went on the road started rolling in twice and landed upside down not one of my airbags went off i went to the hospital the ambulance had to come and get me

2002 chevy tahoe lt:intermediate drive shaft needs to be replaced; however, the dealer has yet to make a recall. It appears to be very common in this vehicle as well as my other gm vehicle(pontiac grand prix which was under recall). Clunking, looseness in steering wheel column when driving, mostly heard while driving over bumps. Just purchased, waiting to see if dealer will replace at no cost.

Consumer states that while driving and no warning the steering wheel will pull to the right and it will be hard for the consumer to control the vehicle. Dealer notified. Mr

I was driving down hwy 308 in belle rose la and the truck stalled out when i put my bright lights on all the lights on the dash board came on and then the truck just shut off!! my steering wheel don't lock i have to turn the wheel and hold the steering wheel at the same time to start the truck and some times it don't even start.

The power steering has completely failed on thevehicle. The power steering pump has been replaced 2-3 times. My next step is the intermediate shaft or the gearbox but i have to spend $90 to have a diagnostics test run to determine what the exact issue is. I read some blogs online that said chevy had a recall on this issue but the dealer i called told me that there were not any recalls.

I own a 2002 tahoe that i bought new.with in 6 months it developed a knocking in the front end.it sounded as if the front end was about to fall out.part of the steering shaft was replaced and it stopped.it is now doing it again.is there a steering danger that could possible cause an accident?

Steering turns to left fine, but can not turn to right at idle or low speed. When trying to make right turn at slow speedyou may have to back up and try again. Very hard to park in parking space, vehicle will not turn to right. It is as is the engine is turned off. I have read hundreds of reports about same problem on internet sites. Seems to be a problem with steering gear box,but gm has done nothing to fix this problem since vehicles are out of warranty.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. While driving 30 mph, the steering wheel seized and the engine warning light illuminated. The failure occurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the contact should take the vehicleto another dealer where it was misdiagnosed and repaired. The details of the repairs were not available. The failure mileage was 55,000.

Power steering consistently cuts out when turning *right* and engine is cold.also experienced same issue when engine is warm but de-accelerating (slowing down) and turning right. This forces vehicle into oncoming traffic lane because it will not turn. Happens at various speeds in all types of traffic.this situation has been progressively getting worse. Local dealer says they are not aware of any problems fitting this description.however, multiple chevy blogs are full of similar reports and all state chevy is not taking responsibility. (??)

Popping noise in steering column. Returned to dealer as it was still under warranty. They concluded that it would be a one time repair to re-lube the steering column.i was led to believe they had a special lube that would cure the problem. Vehicle did fine for about 15000 miles and the noise has returned. Have had the front end aligned since the original tires (firestone) wore out prematurely. Can't seem to keep it aligned.

2002 chevy tahoe lt 4wd, current mileage is 85k.for the last 25k miles this vehicle has experienced a noisy shuddering sound with a slight vibration felt through the steering wheel when turning left or right. Ball joints, tie rods and alignment check out ok.problem can be temporarily (for several days) resolved by dealer when front axle assembly is lubed during general service.had front axle seals replaced at 80k, noisy vibration was temporarily suppressed, returned a week later.

Popping noise heard in steering since three weeks of purchase.dealer originally advised it was normal on new vehicles and needed to "work out the kinks."taken in for repairs.first repair attempt, dealer found excessive play in lower ball joints and replaced both.picked u vehicle and immediately heard popping noise again.dealer then performed second repair attempt by finding center cross member and ride height bushings in need of lubing.popping noise recurred within month of picking up vehicle after second repair attempt.service mgr took test drive and heard popping noise.now states he cannot recreate and knows something is wrong but not sure what.*nlm

Steering gear box failure.failure of this component makes it difficult to turn the steering wheel to the right when backing out of parking spaces.i have checked the internet and this is a fairly common occurrence with these vehicles and chevrolet accepts no responsibility for the failures of these parts.

Tahoe steering shaft faulty. Making all sorts of noise for years. Should be a recall. Have seen hundreds complaining of same issue on chevy tahoes!

Dt*: the contact stated while driving at slow speeds making a sharp left turn the steering wheel locked and it was unable to be maneuvered to its original position.the vehicle was taken to the dealership where it was determined the power steering pump fractured.previously before this failure the vehicle was taken to the dealership because the steering was shaking however, the contact is unaware of what parts were replaced.the dealership states both failures are not related.

Feels like i'm driving a boat. Delayed action when steering . Vehicle is used intermittently

Clunking noise.when you go forward or reverse.sound is coming from steering or front end.sometimes when you take your foot off brake and go.no one can figure what it is.

I have had to have the steering column in my 2002 chev. Tahoe replaced twice and fixed another. The vehicle starts making a noise when it is turned. After a period of time, the steering gets loose and it sounds and feels like worn ball joints.according to the mechanics at the dealership, this is a very common problem and occurs with the other similar gm vehicles (yukon and escalade). I had my steering column replaced in july and it is already making the noise again. They claim it is not a safety issue but i don't see how it couldn't be. My extended warranty will run out soon and the next time i replace it will be out of my own pocket. I am very concerned that this may be an issue that would cause me to loose control of the vehicle.

Vehicle would wander across the road while driving at multiple speeds and got more severe at higher speed. Vehicle been to the dealer on two occasions, problem reoccurring. Consumer states that the steering wheel is not centered, this is causing tires to feather, dealership has aligned the front end on two occasions, however the problem still exists.

Steering column is not centered properly withinvehicle, air bag deployment may cause severe injury. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving various speeds, the steering wheel vibrated without warning.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who determined the steering column needed lubrication.the manufacturer was not contacted.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe.the steering column rattles when driving various speeds over a bump.the dealer greased and injected the column with a special grease at the cost of $100; however, the failure was not corrected.when making sharp turns to the left or right, the steering fails.the current mileage was 97,000 and failure mileage was 30,000.

I recently took my 2002 chevy tahoe in to the dealer for a long over due repair.after describing my problem to the service technician (a clunk sound and feel through the steering wheel which i had first noticed at about 20k miles), he told me the problem was a "common occurrence" in the year/model and that it was "due to poor lubrication/design" with the intermediate shaft of the steering column.he shaft would cost $140 plus one hour labor.... However; it is on a long back order.seems strange that an item, which is a "common occurrence" and the item is back ordered (must be a lot of replacing going on) would not be subject to a recall for a free replacement.i paid top dollar for this vehicle and for such a standard piece of equipment to be needed to be replace at this low of mileage seems a bit out of the normal wear and tear.after reviewing many sites on the internet, it seems this occurance is common enough that it should be a recall.walter goodall.

Dt: the consumer experienced thumping and torsion within the steering wheel.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who remedied this condition by lubrication.the problem soon returned, and the dealer replaced the steering column.however the problem recurred and the dealer replaced the entire steering column.he contacted the manufacturer, and they stated they would not accept any financial responsibility now or in the future.there have been no further repairs at this time.updated 11/16/05.

Dt*:the contact stated while the vehicle is driven at any speed there is a cracking noise that can be heard from the steering.this started with only the noise now it is very hard to turn the steering wheel.the vehicle was taken to the dealer; upon inspection grease was added to the steering column.the problem has now reoccurred and the dealer must re grease the steering column.the manufacturer has been alerted.

I've taken my chevy tahoe in a number of timsefor a knocking noise coming from the steering column area. They would lube it up and send me on my way. I think it's wrong and something should be done about it they are aware that there is a problem with this but they except know responsibility. When is there going to be a recall on this ,when someone get killed! this is the date about when i first took it in 04/10/02 only a few months after i bought the truck cash.

I have a bumping noise in my steering column. I have a 2002 chevrolet tahoe with around 70,000 miles. The noise was evident when i purchased the vehicle with 12,000 miles. I do not know if it is a safety problem they are not any recalls listed. I have 3 friends with the same issue with the similar vehicle.

Vehicle steering column keeps failing and needs lubricating. This is ridiculous. Im going on the 5th time since june of 03 that this has happened. Why isn't there a recall on this! what a crappy way to treat a good chevy gm customer! 2002 tahoe ltneed a recall for everyone affected and there are many many many affected by what i see on the net!

While driving steering wheel locked up, causingconsumer to lose control of the vehicle, and it rolled over.upon inspection of the vehicle by the consumer noticed that lower control armsnapped in two.

When making turns from 5 mph or more vehicle experienced severe vibration, and it caused the vehicle to jerk and thumpintermittently. Vehicle was taken to two separate dealers. First dealer was unable to locate theproblem, and the seconddealer determined that theintermediate steering shaft needed to be replaced.the consumer stated that the shaft has not been replaced because it is on back order.*tc

Dt: the contact statessteering shaft has been replaced, packed and lubricated over 5-6 times in the past 2 years. It vibrated and made a knocking noise. Could feel the vibration in the steering wheel, but there was nothing they could do about it. The contactfeltthe car was unsafe and unstable. Gm said there was no way they would trade back or buy back the vehicle. This happened on any type of road condition, and all of the time. It was getting progressively worse. Gm told the contact it was not life threatening.

Vehicle was taken to the dealer for a clicking noise coming from the front when making turns. Results showed that the cross member that holds the engine from frame to frame need to be replaced. Also, there wasa problem with the intermediate steering shaft, which was making the steering loose, and unable to control the vehicle.

2002 tahoe engine stalled when pulling into a parking space.the vehicle was towed to the nearest chevrolet dealership.the consumer was told that the shaft to the power steering had broken and needed to be replaced as well as the motor to the power steering.

At 60+ mph, the power steering feels unstable. This may be a failure in the variable assist system although dealer was confused if tahow still had this system.it may be front suspension instability.vehicle handles very well at lower speeds but over 60, it wanders and the steering feels like it will overcompensate or oversteer. Unknown if the tahoe still has a variable power assist steering. I would like to speak to a chevrolet representative that can provide this information and assistance.

My mechanic was putting air in the spare tire underneath the vehicle and the cable broke and the tire fell on him. Luckily, he was not injured badly.

During the recent high temperature weather we had last week, the molding of the rear hatch separated from the window. The hinge that secures the glass to the hatch tore from the molding which is part of the glass. With this tear in the window molding, the window could separate from the vehicle while it's in motion. I would guess that the trim/seal which the hinge is part of becomes too soft during extreme heat, and makes it soft enough to tear when the window is opened and closed. Vin: [xxx] gm claims that this is considered "normal wear and tear". Updated 07/19/2012information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Paint peeling and delamination on passenger side back door of 2002 chevy tahoe.

Approximate date above when the paint started to delaminate on all areas of the vehicle.

While traveling on highway there is oil fluid leaking from underneath the vehicle.dealership is aware ofproblem.

Water leakinterior passenger side floorboard. When it rains or vehicle is put through a car wash water entersin behind dash and flows down onto passenger side of floorboard. Approximately 8 trips to dealer and 2 carpet replacements have yet to rectify the problem. The dealercannot seem to find problem. *la

The vehicle has shown significant signs of rust under the rubber stripping and roof rack.due to rust being hidden under the roof rack or behind the weatherstripping, problem was not discovered until after end of warranty period.contacted manufacture and was informed vehicle was out of warranty thus no claim could be filed.it appears the inserts in the roof contributed to the rust problem as the roof rusted through and the rack came off the vehicle.

All areas of my paint is peeling, cracking and de laminating as of last year. The car pretty much sat for 10 years with only 20000 miles and was in excellent condition.i bought it in 2012 and i've driven it daily for 4 years and it now has 64000 miles.i just googled and found a recall on the chevy paint problem but chevrolet said there was no recalls on my vehicle and that i had no recourse.

We have now had to replace all four of our door handles. The black plastic and hardware just rots away. Eventually you pull on the door handle and the piece breaks off of the car and hangs by one remaining fixture. Money pit for sure.

All door locks stopped working, dealer replaced sensor. Please provide additional information.ts

To whom it may concern:i have a 2002 chevrolet tahoe lt 4x4. I recently noticed a popping sound each time i lifted the cargo door. We soon realized that the glass was loose and when we went to lift up the glass which lifts separately from the door, we realized the hinge had separated from the glass. The other side is also starting to crack. I was told by the dealership that it was not covered in my warranty that i had purchased at the time i purchased the tahoe. It will cost me 802.50 to replace the back window because it is all onepiece. This does not even cover the labor. I was also told not to drive on the freeways until i have it fixed because the window could rip off from force of wind. To me, this is a very dangerous problem and could ultimately kill someone. I have done some research and noticed that there have been others that this has happened to as well. Therefore, i am wondering if it is a manufacturer defect and if these models should be recalled.

Rear window hatch frame broke away from hinges on the body frame. When opening the rear hatch window the hatch separated from the body on the right side. The left side broke/separated as well on its own. The car is not drivable in this condition as the window could now easily completely become detached from the car thus causing serious injury or death. I filed a complaint with gm #1355994572 which is pending resolution.

Vehicle was taken to the dealer for a clicking noise coming from the front when making turns. Results showed that the cross member that holds the engine from frame to frame need to be replaced. Also, there wasa problem with the intermediate steering shaft, which was making the steering loose, and unable to control the vehicle.

Consumer states vehicle was involved in a minor accident.at any speed, especially at speeds of 55-75 mph, there is play in the steering wheel and it pulls to one side.the steering remains unstable regardless of several return trips to the dealership.dealership advised that this was normal.

Steering feels unstable over 50mph.tahoe wanders requiring you to correct alot. Seems unsafe, wife won't drive tahoe anymore.

While driving and/or braking, steering wheel will pull to the left.when braking, steering pullled sharply to the left, resulting in vehicle spinning out twice.dealer found caster and camber out of alignment and performed alignment.

Vehicle pulled to right when applying brakes at any speed. When making a left turn at 30 mph it felt like the back of vehicle swung out to the right. When driving straight and taking hands off the steering wheel vehicle drove straight. Vehicle had not been checked by dealer.

I was making a right turn and right side swaybar snapped off at rear housing. I never carried a heavy load or towed anything with this truck since i have owned it.

I was coming home on my road going 30 miles an hour going around the curve 25 if that my steering did not work i went on the road started rolling in twice and landed upside down not one of my airbags went off i went to the hospital the ambulance had to come and get me

When pressing on the brakes front end will go to the right andback will go to the left. This could cause an accident. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.

I own a 2002 tahoe that i bought new.with in 6 months it developed a knocking in the front end.it sounded as if the front end was about to fall out.part of the steering shaft was replaced and it stopped.it is now doing it again.is there a steering danger that could possible cause an accident?

Autoride system causing severe vehicle instabilities, unsafe characteristics. Will cause accident. Vehicle is unstable and i am afraid to drive it. Operation of autoride causes vehicle to wander and wobble off track.

*sc

I have owned my tahoe for almost 3 years, and i have had the front hubs/wheel bearings replaced 3 times.since they were a one piece assembly, theywere rather expensive.i have put almost 70000 miles on it since i have owned it, and never had any other problems with this truck.

Traveling south on ca. Highway 99 through macfarland ca. On 11-20-2002 at approx. 2215 hrs the right front tire blewout. We where traveling at approx. 72 mph on straight flat stretch of hwy and were able to keep control of the vehicle. Upon inspection of the tire, i noticed that the sidewall had blown out. The tahoe was purchase on aug. 9th of 2002, and only had about 3842 miles.we did not hit anything, the tire just failed.

While driving on highway (i-70 sb)my left front tire suddenly went flat. Initially it felt like i was traveling over a seried of minature bumps, this lasted approximately 30 seconds, then the steering became difficult/sloppy: at that point i was made my way to the shoulder of the road, fortunately i had room to get over at an easy pace without having to veer sharply, i gradually made it to the shoulder. As i neared the shoulder i sensed the tire was no longer between the rim and the road. I was able to stop within approximately 10 seconds of that sensation. After stopping i immediately exited the vehicle and inspected the tire. I found the left front tire to be completely ruined. The entire sidewall (outer sidewall) was detached from the tread. It looked as if someone took a sawsall and cut the entire perimeter of the sidewall. Luckily two west chester police officers discovered my situation and provided warning lights to alert traffic, while i changed the tire and spare. This all happened on08/01/2002 at approximately 5:00am. My father and 13 y/o son were with me.i went to schmitt huelsman auto mall (where i purchased the tahoe) and i asked to have all tires replaced, requesting a different brand. The service manager was not authorized to do this. For now he is going to replace the defective tire with the same brand. I prefer not to have this same brand. I have absolutely no confidence in this brand of tire. At this time the dealer is in possession of the defective tire.

Problems with front alignment on 2002 chevrolet tahoe.*mrat approx. 7-8k miles, consumer started having tire problems. He rotated them but to no avail. Dealership was contacted and they said rotate them again. Consumer did. At 14k miles new tires were put on the vehicle. This didn't solve the problem. Chevy said to rotated the tires every 2k miles but the consumer felt this was ridiculous and did it every 3k miles but to no avail. Consumer noted they never tried to repair the problem.(ph

I have a 2002 chevrolet tahoe.i had the recall service performed for the wheel speed sensor problem approximately 2 years ago.i am now experiencing the same problem again with the anti-lock brake function occurring at low speeds.

Upon returning from a 2000 mile trip my wife left her place of work and upon exiting the lot heard a loud thup she looked in the mirror and noticed that the entire spare tire assembly was lying in the roadway.a fellow employee ran over and collected the tire and the additional partsthat use to hold the tire up.we are taking the vehicle to the dealer. My warrenty just went off in september. I feel that this is defenitly a safety issue that we should not be charged for along with the fact that some one could have been seriously hurt or killed as a result of a fully inflated tire hitting the roadway i will let you know the results i also climbed under neath the tahoe and noticed the the cable is very small in diameter i have a suspicion the cable is rusting out near the crimped end. This really needs to be looked into by general mtrs.

In 2006, i noticed that my driver's side mirror was leaking the green "goo" that dims headlights reflecting in it at night.once all of it was leaked out an oval, that had the appearance of an oil slick, came in the middle of the mirror.now, the silver top layer of the mirror appears to be sliding off.it had a "funhouse mirror" appearance to it once the "goo" started leaking out of it, but now it is much, much worse.everything is very blurry, you can't see how to back the vehicle at night, and it is extremely difficult during the day.i have inquired twice about the potential of a recall on this issue, and of course, chevrolet has downplayed this.the mirror itself costs over $400 - not the entire casing.the entire casing is over $500.there was no incident, accident, or injury to the vehicle that caused this problem.it just happened.i also see many tahoes with these same mirrors with the same problem riding around the town where i live and work.

The contact owns a 2002 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the drivers side mirror was non-reflective and discolored and is obscuring his visibility while driving.

When driving at low speed and coming to a stop the abs light comes on and the brakes slip and grind where it takes twice as long to stop the car. I have had the car looked at and was told all pads and rotors are fine also told it could possibly be a problem with the the abs system.
