The vehicle airbags failed to deploy in accident were it received severe front end damage.
My son and i was in an accident saturday february 16. My right front tire went off the road and i tried to correct it when my back right tire went off the road and i tried to correct and went to the left when my left back tire dug into the earth and caused my truck to flip over. When the truck flipped over my son was ejected from the vehicle and he was wearing his seat belt but the belt came undone. Also in the rollover no side air bags deployed when if they did it might have kept him in the vehicle. Beware is all i can say.
The third row seatbelt will not retract at all the top of the seatbelt will get stuck.please furnish additionalinformation.dealer is aware of the problem. Mr

Airbags failed to deploy in head-on crash.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. While driving at 45 mph, another vehicle failed to yield and the contact crashed into the driver side of that vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact did not sustain any injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an auto body repair center for body repairs, but was not diagnosed for the air bag failure. Three years later, while driving 25 mph, the contact crashed into an animal and then into a guardrail. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained back injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an auto body repair center, but was not diagnosed or repaired. Hit by a red light runner (45/50mph) on driver's side, hit a second car, then a concrete post head on.not one of the four air bags engaged at anytime.the car was totaled.i have documentation, pictures, police report, and have contacted chevy, they have no clear response on why?if you would like more detail on injures or have any question please fill free to contact me.thank you for your time, danielle hurst-stone.
Head-on collision at 50 mph and airbags did not inflate.
I was involved in a collision in my 2001 chevrolet tahoe where i rear ended a car. My vehicle was traveling 54 mph and the other vehicle was slowing to turn without blinkers or brake lights. My airbags did not deploy.
While traveling onto on intersection another vehicle ran the red light and hit consumer's vehicle. Upon impact, dual airbags didn't deploy.dealership was aware of problem.

While driving 50 mph, the consumer's vehicle was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact, the airbags did not deploy. The driver sustained severe head injuries andwas taken to a hospital.
Frontal airbags did not deploy in collision.
It had been raining slightly and as i attempted to use an exit ramp from the highway my antilock brakes failed i skidded and spun and ended up hitting the concrete barrier which did not make my airbags deploy even though the car hit hard enough to bend the frame of the front end by an inch and a half
Driving in large parking lot approx 25 mph, light pole with concrete base was in blind spot as i was turning.hit the concrete head on, $12,000 worth of damage to my truck, frame bent, front end replaced and the air bags failed to deploy.the dealer had no explanation other than the damage must have been in just the wrong spot.i went to the hospital with head and neck injuries.
Vehicle was involved in an accident while traveling at 50 mph whenvehicle t-boned a vehicle crossing an intersection.airbags failed to deploy.dealership could not provide a reason for failure ofairbags to deploy. Themaufacturer indicated that the vehicle skidded 20 to 25 feet after impact and the air bag failed to deploy for this reason. The consumer disagrees.
I was drivineg on the freeway. The cruise control was set at 70 mph. It was raining i went through a puddle and the car hydroplaned and headed towrd the concrete median, it would not straighten and i hit the median head on.the airbags did not deploy.
While traveling at 35 mph consumer was hit head-on, and vehicle almost tipped over.upon impact, front air bags failed to deploy. Please provide any further information.
Driver and passengerfrontal airbags failed to deploy when consumer was involved in a 40mph frontal collision. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Please provide further details.
Front crash at 30 mph, neither airbag deployed, damage about $6500, frame bent, front end replaced.
Airbags did not deploy during a side impact.he says he does not know where the air bag suppose to deploy, because the b pillar is resting against the side air bag.he wants to know if the b pillar is shoved against the side of the air bag where is the air bag suppose to go when it deploys. Ts
Airbags failed to deploy during side impact.he states that the "b-pillar" is shoved against the air bag.please describe details. Ts
Airbags did not deploy during side impact.he says that the b pillar is shoved against the side where the air bag is located, so where is the airbag suppose to go. Ts
Driver's side and passenger's side airbags failed to deploy in a front end collision. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Please provide further details.
My vehicle was struck on the passenger side-i was going approximately 25 other driver was approximately 40...drivers side air bag didn't deploy in a rollover accident resulting in injury to left arm...vehicle was totaled.
Chevrolet tahoe was double parked on east 15th street between 1st and 2nd ave in nyc. Truck was in "park" when both side airbags inadvertently deployed. There was no impact from any other car and the truck was not moving. This is obviously a manufacturer defect and replacement or repair must be the responsibility of general motors and/or insurance co (nationwide).
When the lights are in the on position and you are traveling at 20 -25 mph and take your foot off of the accelerator, the lights will dim for approximately 3 - 4 seconds.the vehicle was taken to a local dealership that stated they could not find anything wrong and that if it were a major problem it would show up some day. The battery has also come apart (the positive battery terminal came out of the battery), the windshield washer pump has been replaced due to leaking and is now currently leaking again, therefore the washer pump will have to be replaced again.a tire has separated for no apparent reason; dealer could not find anything wrong with the tire that would have caused the tire to separate.
My passenger seat cot on fire. My truck was parked in the mall parking lot as my self husband and two children came out from shopping to my the car i opened my passanger door i got in and adjusted my passanger seat for comfortand my husband was getting the gift and kids in the truck and then all of a sudden i smelled smoke.i got out of the car and i started to look where the smell was coming from and looked under my passenger seat and there was sparks coming from under the seat there was a black box under the seatthat was sparking i called 911 and the fire department came and put the fire out my whole passanger side burned and the fire department said it was the motor box under the seat that cot firebad electrical wiring he said. The car was parked and we had not started it the only thing i did was adjust my seat and as i was waiting for my husband to get in and kids tho get buckled i smelt something burning and my set got hot. I can't believe this happened
Abs brake light on dash stays on. I had all the sensors tested and they are ok. I had the computer tested and it shows a fault. But the abs seems to be working fine. It appears that in order to get this error light to go off i have to spend a $1000 for a computer, even thought he system appears to be working properly. I have had numerous electrical issues with this vehicle since purchase.
Attempted to turn vehicle off, car making a loud noise after i took key out of ignition. Loud noise would not go away until i disconnected the battery from the car. I attempted several days later to turn vehicle back on. Successful without any noise. Turned off after driven that day. Battery did not need to be disconnected this time. Left car in garage for 2 day (48 hours) untouched and not driven. Sitting in my house eating a sandwich and i smell smoke coming from my garage. I look underneath the car and flames have appeared. I grabbed anything i could to put fire out and successfully did. Car has not been driven since. There is damage underneath the car. The quote to fix is $1800 but have not fixed yet until insurance company approves. If i had not been home to put the fire out it would have burned down my home and killed my dogs. It also would have burned down my neighbors home too because we are attached.
The low beam headlights stop working when in use.
Noticed that the headlights became intermittent; started occurring more frequently once problem started eventually headlights would not stay on; discovered the problem was relative to the position of the tilt of steering column; vehicle was evaluated and repaired; repair included replacing the wiring harness and the multifunction switch; the wiring harness had shorted out apparently from the repeated movement of the tilt being adjusted; old part is available; i'm reporting this because the problem is dangerous when the headlights go off traveling at high speeds at night.it is also a fire hazard per the mechanic that repaired the vehicle.we did smell smoke at one time but didn't notice any other components damaged.maybe we were just lucky.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. After removing the key from the ignition switch, the engine remained on. The vehicle would shut off several minutes after removing the key. The contact also stated that the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 180,000.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. When the contact turned off the ignition switch, the vehicle remained on. The contact detached the battery and the vehicle shut off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the abs/brake sensors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the abs warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

Post on our battery - melted/fell off -2001 chevy tahoe 4x4.
Consumer noticed acid on top of the battery plate.
Consumer stated that while driving the battery terminal cracked, resulting in acid leaking on to battery tray and other underhood electrical wiring. Ts
The post cable came off the battery. The driver tried to restart the vehicle.the driver had thr vehicle towed to the dealer for analysis.*ph
Car engine cuts out, very dangerous, has done it on freeway and intersections. I do not feel safe.
Mileage-60813.1. Service engine light come on, engine haslack of power on take off. Took vehicle to north jackson chevrolet for service, dealer reports rodents have eaten through wires going to transmission, transmission not recieving siginal, repaired wires from fuse box, replace inigtion switch cost $634.00.after 600 miles same problems reoccures 6/16/2003, unable to get to vechicle. Will carry vehicle back today for for additional repair.
My complaint has to do with the running lights and the brake system for the 2001 chevy tahoe.i have had my running lights replace numerous times and there is an apparent short in the wiring connection that will have to be fixed.my parking and abs brake lights keep coming on even though the braking system has been replaced and the lines have been flushed.these lights go off once the car is restarted, but sometimes come back on.this will be my second trip to the mechanic to see what the problem with my brakes is.i think this is ridiculous because i have already spent several hundred dollars that i didn't have, in order to ensure my children's safety.now after reading about the parking brake, who knows how much more i will have to spend to have it checked to see if that is the problem? since there are parking brake issues, the vehicles should have been recalled at the cost of the company, not the consumer.
While driving passenger in the rear seat adjusted the passenger seat and noticed sparks coming from under the seat.later, the sparks turned into flames.the fire departmentextinguished the firebecause the wires kept igniting.
I own a 2001 chevy tahoe, the heater blower will not turn off even after the key is out.i have had it into the shop 4 times now with dealers and they have replaced the heater control head and that didn't fix it, then they reprogrammed the computer twice but that didn't help, then they replaced the blower motor resistor and that still didn't fix the problem.i am extremely frustrated and sick of running up charges to fix something that even the dealers can't fix.
Error message pop ups c01960. My abs light and brake light pops up while i'm driving almost daily now. My brakes feels as if their slipping when i try to directly stop or turn left. It scares me because my brakes system seems to feel like their locked or as if i'm sliding on ice and cannot stop. This is when the abs light and brake light will appear lit at the same time
Misfiring, exhaust leaking because of common problem (exhaust manifold bolts broken) many have complained of the same problem on the v8 engines. There needs to be a recall. Help!
Two exhaust manifold bolts are broken. The service engine soon warning on. There should be a recall by gm to fix this under warranty. Due to the research i've done, this premature bolt breakage problem is costing consumers millions in repair costs that should not be our responsibility.

Purchased brand new 2001 chevy tahoe and within first 3 months noticed oil level was lower than expected. Began 'oil consumption' test with tracy dealership that extended into 2004 until they finally agreed 2 tear down the engine...all 3 years was ongoing oil loss within the engine! they only went 2 the cylinder heads despite several requests by expert mechanic's advice 2 go further into the piston level. Tracy chevrolet reported their findings as 'parts missing from cylinder heads fromoriginal engine assembly'.gm's ceo promised 2 replace my engine if the oil consumptionwasn't fixed. Within 1 month of that repair, oil loss continued. Another 'oil consumption' test scenario was established and another 3 years passed with me reporting 2 them every 500 miles for oil level checks. Again, 3 years passed before they finally decided 2 tear the engine down again. (3/7/07). The cylinder heads were fine so gm recommended that they go down 2 the piston level (sound familiar??) where they found another missing part from original factory assembly! (oil control rings) they tried 2 have me accept they were doing me a favor as i was now out of warranty. I had 2 remind them that i reported this 2 them well within my 1st year, they were responsible for delaying appropriate repairs, and now, this engine was probably missing other parts. I was holding them 2 their original promise of replacing my engine. The ceo's office has it well documented yet they are going back on their promise and want me 2 just keep an unsafe, unreliableengine. They can't guarantee that other vital parts aren't missing and i doubt any of them would feel safe with this engine. Can you tell me what damage has occurred 2 other engine parts due 2 this extensive prolonged oil loss? they refuse 2 provide any further assistance, information, or my replacement engine. They are offering me instead 3 free oil changes for 6 years of worry, inconvenience, and enduring their complacency with this safety issue.
Every morning when the vehicle is started there is a "clicking" noise.it increases in speed with rpm.once hits 2000 (or so) rpm, noise will stop.noise will also quit after 5 mins of idle.cannot determine cause.happens regardless of outside temp, however is better in az summer months.mechanic cannot find source of the problem.all ideas/solutions welcome.
Vehicle failed to start and the security light came on the dashboard.
Vehicle stalling in traffic and in reverese
A loud embarrassing and annoying internal engine knock.defective due to design and manufacturing quality consistency problems.higher than normal levels of wear related materials in oil analysis.vertical piston and cylinder wall scuffing/scratching or scoring on the hammering (noisy) cylinders upon visual inspection. Reduced combustion chamber compression on the hammering (noisy) cylinders. Increased oil consumption. Increased exhaust emissions.
While traveling on the highway without prior warning the vehicle will shut down.pleaseprovide additional information, dealer is aware of the problem.ph
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe.the contact noticed that the vehicle was experiencing oil consumption failure.tracy chevrolet performed an oil consumption diagnostic that spanned three years.the result of the diagnostic was that there was potential engine failure.in 2004, the dealer stated that the cylinder head level was missing a part from the factory assembly.two months later, the vehicle continued to experience oil consumption failure.a general motors customer service agent promised to provide a new engine if the repair to the cylinder did not remedy the failure.three years later, the dealer performed another oil consumption test and found yet another part missing from the original assembly.the contact asked general motors to replace the engine as promised but they refused to comply.the current mileage is 83,600 and failure mileage was 15,000.
There is a loud squeaking noise when driving.consumer states' took vehicle to dealaer. Ts
Oil light flashed on the dashboard.this caused the vehicle to shut down. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for analysis, andmechanic noticedsludgeinside of the engine.
While driving at any speed consumer heard a loud noise coming from the front. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanicdetermined that the loud noise was normal.
The roof strut that the headliner attaches to is punched too big for the plugs they installed. Gm has replaced the headliner, plugs, and now want to install felt around the plud and "ram it back in" which is not a fix for the problem. I have been very patient waiting for them to either replace the strut or the car. I am at the end of my rope with this, can you please advise me what to do?dt
The consumer stated that the engine clicks when it is cold.
I have a 2001 tahoe with a 350 motor in it with 136,000. It began to make a noise so i took it to a mechanic. First we thought it was a pulley, but after taking the valve covers off it was noted that the noise was louder and the oil supply to theheads was not what it should be. Now i am told that it would be more cost effective to put a used motor in it for $3,000 (71,000 miles). They can not tell me why this happened and i did my part by maintaining my vehicle on time every time it needed scheduled maintenance. I am sick about this.
Nhtsa#00-v-343-000: consumerhas the same problemand dealer could not duplicate or correct the problem. Ph
I feel that i stopped the vehicle just seconds before it would have burst into flames, because when i opened the hood to see where the smoke and smell of burning metal and plastic was coming from the catalytic converter was completly red and glowing from the engine malfunction.
Why does the manual state that one can pull up to 8700lbs. If the tahoe can barely handle 3500lbs? the springs have been replaced twice the manifold is cracked the fuel pump went out, the universal joint is going out, the transfer case is leaking and has only been used twice in 3 years, and has already been repaired once last year, the steering pump is going out, these are only the problems i can think of.
The air conditioner compressor failed after only 2 years of use.i was told by a local dealer that this was a reoccuring problem with 2001 tahoes..
The consumer indicated that the parking brake failed and would not hold the vehicle when it was parked on a hill.the dealership inspectedvehicle several times, and the mechanic advised the consumer that they replaced the mechanical part, but the problem was never resolved.the rear brakes were replaced with factory parts.the consumer requested reimbursement.the a/c was inoperative, the vehicle would pull to the right while in motion and the brake shoes were worn and scored the rear rotors. *sc
Doors are not equipped with door ajar warning chime. Dealer / manufacturernotified, and informedconsumer that those vehicles were not manufactured with that equipment.

The low beam headlights stop working when in use.
Our 2001 tahoe has had problems with the drivers side lower light assembly for quite a while. It houses the turn signal, clearance light and daytime running light. It constantly fills with water. There are no cracks in the lens and i have dried it out and replaced bulbs on a monthly basis. I noticed that a large majority of chevy trucks, tahoes and suburbans on the road have one of these lights out also, one side or the other.
I pushed the override button on the dash looking for the fog lights in luther, michigan at 5:00 am.all the lights went out - i panicked and pushed the button repeatedly until the lights came back on.this has happened on numerous occasions.i could have been killed.
Defects: abs light on at 43,600 miles.when car is turned off a loud noise is heard beneath the drivers side of the vehicle my independent mechanic said the abs unit is purging.at 20 miles and regularly there after, when the fog light power button is pressed, the rear window wiper briefly makes noise as if it had been activated. At 3000 miles and regularly there after , all four doors squeak at the hinges and must be lubricated weekly.at 10,600 miles the rear differential began to leak.both driver and passenger seat squeak and do not firmly lock into position.the driver and front passenger seats do not lock into position.the parking brake has not worked since i purchased the vehicle.*la
When i fill my gas tank up with fuel the fuel light shows low fuel when the tank is full. I am unable to tell what the actual fuel amount is. The light comes on often. This has been happening for about 6 months now. I am not sure how to correct it.
Fuel gauge - not functioning properly, appears to read full when not and also will appear to be empty when not. Low fuel light comes on when tank is full.
The problem is ongoing, the fuel indicator is not stable, it registers low fuel when there is a full tank. The needle is not reporting actual fuel amount. The safety hazard would be running our of gas and possibly causing an accident.is this a defect from the manufacture or wear and tear.vehicle:2001 chevy tahoe mileage now is 98,000 plus miles.the problem has been ongoing for over a year.
Gas gauge had been broken for several years took to the dealership and was told that there have been reported problems with this happening but no recall had been issued after several years mybrother bought a new fuel pump and filter and fixed the problem or at least i hope it is fixed. Abs/ brake light has also been coming on and offi have also taken it to dealership for this problem about a year ago andwas told that it is just the sensor not to worry about it brakes will be fine or i could always take out the fuse so light will stay off which i have not done, so far lucky and no failure with brakes working.
While driving on a four lane divided roadway at 40 mph, i noticed that the truck did not accelerate when i depressed the accelerator pedal and appeared to be losing speed.i was less than 1 mile from my home and decided to turn around and return.i had 6 children ages 4-20 in the car traveling to a thanksgiving day football game.when i came to the next light about 200 yards from when i noticed the problem and began to turn, the car stalled and i lost power steering and power brakes.i was able to bring the car to a stop, but was now perpendicular to oncoming traffic and could not move forward or backward.i asked the three oldest children to exit the vehicle in the active roadway and push the truck slightly uphill to the side of the right most lane to clear the intersection.i then had to tow the car back to the house.i found that the fuel pump fuse had blown and replaced it.despite this the car was still hard to start.i researched the problem on the internet and found numerous references to this vehicle blowing fuses, in all cases requiring replacement of the fuel pump.i noted in one complaint that there was an nhtsa campaign (05v155000) related to this problem on the same model year chevrolet suburban that resulted in a recall.i am concerned that a recall for another nearly identically constructed vehicle affecting the same component installed in my vehicle would not warrant notice to me that i could suffer the same failure placing occupants in a very dangerous situation.had i been notified of the likelihood of this occurrence that could result in my vehicle and its occupants being stranded in an active roadway, i would have initiated preventative repairs.this campaign, or at a minimum an advisory notice, should have been made to owners of all vehicle employing the same faulty component.
Bought this truck used in 2007. Since day 1 the fuel gauge has not worked. It shows empty when it's full and full when it's empty. I have had to keep track of mileage to know when to fill up. Mechanic says that it is very costly to fix.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that all the brake lines were rusted and the fuel lines were corroded. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 144,000 and the current mileage was 154,000.
2001 chev. Tahoe. The gasoline evaporative canister vent valve draws in dirt and clogs the valve and the evaporative canister when driven on dirt roads. This has been addressed for 1999 to 2002 pickups with a new valve design that improves filtering and allows easier cleaning of the filter. (bulletin 02-06-04-037).

Car shut-off while driving down highway on sunday, april 16th, 2006 with no forewarning.other cars in the land could have very well collided with my vehicle.i took my vehicle to the valley stream, ny dealership for the 90,000 mile service check-up the next day.the told me they found nothing wrong.the following morning my car would not start.i searched the internet and discovered that there was a recall on this particular part causing the problem.gm informed me that it did not pertain to my specific vehicle because the vin # was not listedcampaign number:05v155000 date:2005-apr-14 component:fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pumpdefect summary:certain trucks and sport utility vehicles were built with fuel module reservoir assemblies that contain fuel pump wires connectors may overheat under certain operating conditions. Consequence summary:if the ignition circuit wire is exposed, the fuel pump fuse will blow, disabling the fuel pump and causing an engine stall or no-start condition. If sufficient heat is conducted to the pass-through connector, a hole in the connector may result, which may cause a 'service engine soon' light to be illuminated during the emission system diagnostic routine. Fuel vapor and in some cases liquid fuel may leak out of the fuel tank through the hole in the connector body. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire. Also if the ignition circuit or ground wire is exposed and shorts to the fuel level sender card wires, inaccurate fuel level readings may result.corrective summary:dealers will remove the fuel tank, and remove the module reservoir assemblies from the tank, and install a new service kit free of charge. An interim letter to owners was mailed on may 25, 2005. The owners were re-notified on october 19, 2005, since parts are now available. Owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 and gmc at 1-866-996-9463.
Vehicle stalling in traffic and in reverese
I was driving down the road doing only 25 miles a hour and had my kids in the car i went to stop at a stop sign and brake pedal went right to the floor. When had it looked at they said all brake lines rotted. With a truck that only has 50,000 on it this should not happen. My husband keeps my truck mint if had to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 i would say it is a 9.5 looks bran new.
My daughter was running less than 35 mph through town went to stop at a red light, brake pedal went to the floor and both front and rear brake lines failed leading to me rear ending the car in front of me. Upon inspection both front and rear brakes were leaking fluid due to rust and corrosion.i had to have my car towed home and have been un able to drive it since.
On 6/8/2001, i purchased a 2001 chevrolet tahoe from sewell cadillac-chevrolet.in 2003 hinges on the rear door cargo window had to be replaced/repaired because the window would not close properly because the hinges were coming loose from the vehicle.the cargo window on the rear door was rarely used.the last time it was opened was august, 2009.while the car was being driven on the highway in may, 2010, the cargo window flew off the car.it is my understanding that failure of the attachment of the hinges to the window is due to the rubber bonding material that is used and is not an uncommon event.the occurrence of a window flying off a vehicle while it is being driven is, in my opinion a significant safetyhazard that could result in accidents and severe injury.i paid to have the window replaced.general motors was informed(file # [xxx] ), were not concerned about this problem, and to the best of my knowledge has done nothing.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I am the owner of a 2001 chevrolet tahoe z71. I purchased the vehicle new and i am the sole owner.yesterday (7-13-2010), i had just returned to my vehicle after a visit to the grocery store. I opened the rear hatch (upper glass portion) and placed my groceries inside the vehicle. When i tried to close the glass hatch it would not close. After further visual of the connecting latch, i noticed that the plastic right latch had broken off the glass portion of the hatch. Thus i was not able to close the glass hatch.after continued attempts, i pushed the glass hatch back into place, but the window is severely out of alignment.i have since researched this problem on the internet and i have noticed that many other tahoe and suburban owners have had this same problem.i took my tahoe by a local chevrolet body shop and i was told that this is a common problem with tahoes and suburbans. The shop foreman said that this is a product defect that chevrolet never corrected or admitted fault to.i am now concerned, as this is a complete unit and that the replacement costs appears to be rather expensive.if this is a product defect, i would like to know if chevrolet is willing to compensate me for the repairs or at least pick up a portion of the bill.thanking you in advance for your review of my complaint.
I tried to open the window hatch and the whole thing fell off its hinge.in looking into this to try to get this fixed, i have noticed that this seems to be a very common problem and seems to be a manufacturing defect.there needs to be a recall on this.if i was driving down a highway and this was to fall off, this could be devastating and can cause deaths to anyone behind me.
Chevrolet tahoe 2001 notice of gm failure to address a manufacturing defect.***no answer required****mrthe cargo doors would open while the vehicle was in motion.the latch on the cargo doors had rusted and failed to latch creating a safety hazard.*sc

The consumer was concerned that vehicle would roll on any incline while the emergency parking brake was engaged. Dealer was notified. The consumer stated the vehicle was on an incline and the vehicle was in neutral, the consumer pushed the park/emergency brake to the floor and took his foot off the regular brake pedal and the vehicle just all of a sudden rolled away.when the consumer took the vehicle took the dealer he was told the left rear rotor drum assembly and both side shoes were worn beyond limits.
I believe there is a serious problem with the emergency brake system in 2001 tahoe's. I learned of this problem when i went to have my car inspected in memphis, tennessee. When i drove up, the inspector said, " we might as well try your emergency brakes first since they will probably fail." i asked her why and she said that almost all tahoe's do fail. Mine did.the inspector told me i needed to have the brakes fixed at a dealer. I went to a chevrolet dealer and i told them i had a tahoe and it had failed the inspection, the service manager interupted and said, "your emergency brakes failed, didn't they?" i asked how he knew andhe said. " they almost all do." he said that the vast majority of them fail within one or two years. He explained that when you do not use your emergency brake there is something that makes them activate and rub against the drum. Eventually they wear out. He stated he wished chevrolet would recall the system. I wrote to chevrolet. They claim my brakes wore out with regular use. To the best of my knowledge, i have never used the emergency brakes on my car. In fact i still have the same factory installed regular brakes on my car. I believe this eventual emergency brake failure in cars could cause a seriouse accident by failing at the wrong time. So do the mechanics i spoke with and the city inspectors in memphis. I find it hard to believe that chevrolet does not know of this problem. While i do not believe chevrolet will be honest about this situation, i believe any dealer mechanic will. The one that worked on my car volunteered that it was a serious problem and recommended i call you.
My parking brake does not work, although i have never used it.i tried to get my car inspected, but they would not pass it due to the brake.they said gm is aware of the issue but is doing nothing about it.
Dt: consumer's wife pulled into driveway which had a small incline and applied brakes to park, and this particular style of emergency brake failed.felt it was worn out.had to be replaced by owner.no problems since the replacement, but feltit waspoorlydesigned by gm.
I had my vehicle serviced because i was hearing a scraping noise coming from the rear of the vehicle and the parking brake not engaging. Parking brake pads were replaced at 39,707 miles. I paid $246.99 to have this repaired. I have never,(never)driven the vehicle with the parking brake on and was shocked to find out that the pads needed replaced. I have owned two new vehicles in the past 17 years as well as used vehicles and have never had any parking brake issues. I feel there may be a problem with the braking system which is causing the brakes to engage on there own.
Consumer states that when vehicle is in drive or reverse, emergency brake will not hold truck.vehicle checked by dlr who advised that the lining on the rear emergency brake shoes has worn out.*mr
Emergency parking brakes failed to hold vehicle when it was engaged due to premature brake pad wear.dealership indicated if vehiclewas driven within 10 feet with the parking brake still engaged the pad wouldwear out. That was the way the pad was designed.*mr
Consumer 2001 tahoe brake did not catch, took vehicle to the dealer and was told that the rotors were damaged and brake pads needed to be replaced. ***nar received 10-18-05***the consumer was told a clip that was used to hold the pads was not very sturdy which caused the pads to shake and wear out prematurely.the emergency brake would not grab even though the consumer had never used it before.the consumer was told the reason why the rotors were damaged was because the emergency brake was never used and it was considered a wear and tear item.customer service informed the consumer that the emergency brake must be used periodically so that it would center the pads and keep them lasting longer.
Dt*: the contact stated the parking brake rubbed down the brake pads and shoes causing the pads and shoes to be replaced prematurely every two years.the parking brake was rarely used and does not hold.the dealership was aware of the problem and informed the contact there was a special spring that needed to be installed to keep the brake from rubbing against the pads and shoes.
The emergency brake on this car and other models (suburban) is faulty.regardless of use, the emergency brake needs adjusted every 15-20k miles.(recommended by the dealer).the new emergency brake design does not use the normal rear brake pads..it has its own seperate brake pad inside the wheel well.this "emergency" pad burns out regardless of use.a chevrolet mechanic and dealership told me this is a faulty system and that i will need to return every 15-20 k miles to have approximately $130 of work done to adjust it...even if i didn't use it.this is a horrible design and i wish chevrolet would be responsible for their bad engineering and faulty system.
Parking brake doesn't work.
I went to have my 2001 chevrolet tahoe inspected and the vehicle failed the inspection due to the parking brake failing to function.i told him that i had only engaged the brake no more that 5 times since i had bought the vehicle new. The inspector told me that practically every 2001 tahoe he inspected failed due to the parking brake not functioning.i went to another repair shop that did inspections and asked if they were aware of any issues related to my 2001 tahoe.they immediately mentioned that the parking brake probably did not function.i then searched the internet and came to the nhtsa site and found all of the complaints regarding this issue.i took my tahoe into champion chevrolet in austin and had them inspect the parking brake.they called me and said that the parking brake shoes were completely worn out and the parking brake rotor/drum was rendered unusable.they told me that the cost would be over $750 to fix.i told the service manager that i was aware of the defective design of the parking brake system and requested that the work be done at no charge.they called me back and said that cheverolet would cover approximately 60% of the cost.i ended up paying over $300 to fix the manfacturers defect.i told them that i was concerned about the parking brake becoming defective again and they said that the replacement system had been redesigned to fix the problem with the original parking brake.i feel that the nhtsa should begin a defect investigation and force chevrolet to recall these vehicles and fix the defective parking brake system.
2001 chevrolet tahoe: during texas required safety testing the parking brake has been found to be non-functional due to abnormal wear for the second time in three years.this requires hundreds of dollars in repairs each time.
When thebrakeswere applied they would make a noise. When applying the emergency brake on an incline it did not hold.
Applied parking brake while assisting another motorist with a dead battery.after reentering my vehicle i started to back up and noticed that my parking brake was not holding.i tested the brake as described in owners handbook.the parking brake did not hold.i feel lucky that the vehicle did not move while i was assisting the motorist with the dead battery.had the vehicle moved forward i would have been trapped/crushed between the two vehicles.i also own a 2001 chevy truck and it had a recall on the parking brake.why has general motors not recalled the parking brake on the 2001 tahoe.i guest it will take a death or serious injury before they will fix this problem at their cost not mine.
Parking brake / emergency on 2001 chevrolet tahoe is inoperable.parking brake has never been used on this vehicke.brown and brown advised 300.00 dollars to put new brake pads on emergency brake.
Dt:parking brake was defective. Nothing happened before failure. Emergency brake did not hold. Upon inspection it was found to have a problem. Has to have brake pads replaced before it canbe inspected.
Abs module, transmission, parking brake, throttle body, windows, rear a/c, steering suspension. Since we purchased the vehicle we have had to spend over $4000.00 on repairs that should be recalled due to safety.
Emergency brake failed causing vehicle to roll down a hill andcollide with another vehicle. Phone interview update (april 5, 2006): ms. Arnecke said that the vehicle did not roll away; the vehicle failed the texas state inspection because of the parking brakes.
Failure of emergency bake system.both rear rotors had to be replaced with only 54,828 miles on vehicle because emmergency brake pad had worn all pad material off and was rubbing metal to metal cutting into the surface of the emergency brake part of the rotor.
At 24,000 miles the parking brake failed. The dealer states becausethey produced a thinner part the brake wears prematurely. Please provide additional information.*ph
2001 parking brake worn down to metal to metal at 25,000 freeway miles.parking brake was only used when car was in the garage at night on level ground.local dealer said it was normal to wear out in that mileage.
Scraping noise from the rear of vehicle determined to be park brake shoe contacting drum when parking brake not applied.was previously repaired under warranty with re-designed parts, but failed again.parking brake does not hold.
I just watched this a.m.'s local news and saw a local man extremely upset and concerned about his 2001 chevrolet tahoe's parking brake system failure. I, too, have a 2001 chevy tahoe and have had consistent problems since shortly after i purchased it brand new in february 2001.the man claimed his parking brake was not safe and in fact had failedto the point of him having to pay to replace it because gm would not. (over $300) this, after he had discovered gm had sent notices to all chevy dealerships due to the number of complaints on this very issue. The fact is that my parking brake does not work and i feel as the man in the news report said; that gm should send out a nationwide recall to have this very dangerous problem fixed! we bought our vehicles in good faith and gm should stand behind their products, particularly when safety is an issue! gm...do the right thing!for your reference, the local news channel is nbc affiliate channel 12 in phoenix, az.
Park brake failure, premature wear-out.park brake shoes drop and rub on inside of drum.looking at the shoes, clips and the wear on the shoe surface it is obvious that the design of the shoe retention system is not adequate for the duty these brakes see. Normal driving heats the rear brake disc repeatedly.after several hundred heat cycles the spring clips holding the park brake shoes relaxes, allowing the shoes to drop (by gravity) from their intended design position, and the lower brake shoe rests on the normally rotating brake drum.with a brake shoe resting on the rotating drum the result is lower shoe premature wear-out and leaves the upper shoe without wear.this will happen even if the park brake is never used.having worked for gm myself, in cpc-advanced suspension design group, i understand the complexities of brake system design. During my employment with gm, i worked with delco brake engineers and i am sure this failure information has been reported back to them and the appropriate department.i will be requesting to see a 2004 tahoe system to see if the design has been improved.if it has changed it indicates that there was a problem and that gm addressed it by implementing a change.since many gm customers are experiencing this problem at $200 per fix, at 200,000 vehicles thats $40,000,000.00 might be a class action.
Parking brake failure.i asked my dealer to check out my brakes and was told the parking brake ruined the rotors and needed a complete replacement costing $ 800.i have never used the parking brake.i still could hear a squeak and returned for inspection, now i was told the backing plate is rusted, they cut off the bottom of the plate stating is doesnt need it?something is very wrong with gm not taking responsibility for an obvious mistake.
I took my chevy tahoe (2001) in to get the inspection done on 10/1/03 -- this is the first time the inspection has been due since the car was manufactured.i bought this truck used 6 months ago.the inspector told me that he would have to fail my truck due to a defective parking brake.i was told that he had seen a lot of them recently and that he would let me take the truck back to the dealer to get it fixed.he said the other 5-6 that he had seen very recently had taken it to the dealer because it was a recalled part and they fixed it for free.unfortunately, when i took it to my dealer, he informed me that it was not a recalled part and would not be covered -- in fact, would cost me $200-$300 to fix.he said that six months ago, when he inspected the car, it was fine.so, in the past six months, my parking brake had gone bad.i only drive my truck back and forth to work and have not used my parking brake, so it seems to me that something else must be wrong!!please help -- if it is known by so many that these are failing, why will chevrolet not do something about it?if i used my parking brake everyday, that might be one thing, but i have not used it at all.
The parking brakegoes to the floor whenconsumer presses it down. This could cause the vehicle to roll back on a hill. Manufacturer was contacted by consumer.
The parking brake was inoperable. When parking on an incline and the park brake was applied, the vehicle rolled.*sc
Ever since i purchased my 2001 chevy tahoe, i have experienced problems with my parking brake.it never has worked properly, having slipped on numerous occations.when i push it down, it goes all the way to the floor.i went to have it fixed under warranty on 12/7/002, but it continued to fail.currently, there is a service bulletin out on it that says they're supposed to be inspected, and chevrolet has put no demand on the dealers to inspect them.this is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately.
Consumer complained about aparking brake problem. The parking brake will not hold.owner has to take the vehicle into the dealer for an adjustment to the parking brake every 5,000 miles. Owner contacted the manufacturer anddealer, andowner was told that the parking brake has been redesigned, and to bring it in for an evaluation.provide further details.
Our tahoe failed the state inspection due to the parking brake not holding.both parking brake pads were replaced and then 2 years later we failed the state inspection again due to the same parking brake issue.this time one of the rotors was destroyed with about a 1/4" groove in it which made the repair even more costly.our region is totally flat, so we don't even use the parking brake!there is no reason why there should be any wear on the parking brake what-so-ever.especially twice in the 5 yrs we've owned the vehicle. After asking around and researching on the internet, it appears that there is a serious recurring issue with this brake design and up to this point it has all been at the owner's expense.old brake discs are not available but destroyed rotor is.
When the parking brake would be engaged, the pedal would go all the way to the floor. If the vehicle was on an incline, and in neutral gear, the parking brake would not hold.the dealership indicated that was a normal position for the brake and they were self adjusting. Please provide more details.
2001 chevrolet tahoe parking brake defect:each year now for the last 3 years i have had to replace the parking brake shoes on my 2001 chevrolet tahoe due to the poor design of the parking brake system.the current design allows the brake shoe (1 piece) to shift position within the drum cylinder resulting in premature wear and eventually brake pad failure.i understand that gm is aware of this problem but refuses to take steps to correct the defect.i feel that this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed and corrected immediately.my vehicle will not pass the annual vehicle safecty inspection at this time due to the faulty parking brake system.it costs me about $350 annually to have the parking brake pads replaced.please have this safety problem fixed before someone is seriouly injured or killed.i do have the previous worn pads if needed for review.
Parking brakes are not designed to hold vehical on slopes in excess of 11 degrees.chevrolet "claims" that it is not a parking brake but rather " a parking assist".on a vehical that weighs about 3 tons, with a 8,000 lb towing capacity it seems to me that a parking brake in a requirement.
I have a 2001 chevy tahoe.the parking brake has always barely worked but i never had it repaired because i didn't realize it was a defective.i just thought it was a crummy brake. After reading some web sites i now realize it is defective and needs repair.i believe that this is a big problem but that people just don't realize it is not working.the only thing that holds my car from rolling down the hill and killing someone is the transmission.you really should make gm do a recall and fix this problem.
2001 chevy tahoe - emergency/parking brake not functioning.has not been functioning for years. I bought the vehicle new and i never used it, but when i was parked on a hill recently, i tried to use it but it did not work.from what i understand, this is a common problem with this vehicle.if it is a design defect that does not allow the vehicle to safely park without possibly hurting innocent people or damaging property, should the manufacturer be responsible?
Consumer states that twice in the past year the emergency brake shoes and linings have disintegrated resulting in damage to vehicle's rear brakes.the vehicle's rear brake pads and rotors had to be replaced.incidents occurred on 10/24/01 and 11/15/02 respectively. Ts
I took my 2001 tahoe to get a yearly inspection.i was then notified by the service dept. That the parking brake was not holding the vehicle and it would cost approx. $400.00 to repair.i told him that was crazy since we have only used the parking brake a couple of times and that was the first vehicle that i have ever owned that had needed a parking brake repaired at just 40000 miles.upon further research of the problem, i have come to find out that the 2001 tahoe has had a problem with this.i checked recalls and was positive i would find a recall for the parking brake, but to my mistake, there has never been one for a fault parking brake.i have yet to get it fixed as i have just found out, but i would only wish that chevy would take a look at this problem and have it recalled.i would hate to find out about a vehicle parking brake failing and rolling over a child.
I previously filed a complaint for the rear seat belt malfunctioning but this vehicle has several dangerous issues..the throttle sticks and happened with my 2 children in the vehicle driving 55 mph..not fun!the outcome could have been detrimental.the parking brake does not work and has been "fixed" 2 times..it still does not work and will not pass inspection...the antilock brakes engage for short stops and the vehicle slides!! this is just unbelievable to me.gm must have many lawsuits in the works and many to come.
Faulty emergency brake.
For a 2001 chevrolet tahoe regarding the parking/emergency brake.this brake has been adjusted no more than three times since it was new, the first time being at about 15000 miles.it is now non-functional and the pedal presses easily to the floor.we feel this problem is a design defect as a parking brake should not 'wear out' this quickly.
Parking brake show wearing out prematurely, gm has issued a new retaining clip that allows the shoe to be centered and not wear prematurely.
Dt*:the contact applied the parking brake and discovered the parking brake would not engage.there were no previous problems with the parking brake.the vehicle was seen by a dealer.the dealer replaced the parking brake shoes which remedied the problem.the consumer stated the parking brake still doesn't hold, more work is needed. Updated 02/27/06.
Vehicle was purchased used with 21000 miles.parking brake was'nt operable and was repaired by dealer to close sale.parking brake inoperable 30000 miles later.needs left rear hub replaced, right rear was salvageable.dealer stated it was not repairable under extended warranty. During repairs i searched web and found it was not just my vehicle.
Dt*:the contact stated there was a grinding noise coming from the rear end, upon inspection the contact found the parking brake was completely worn.this occurred without the parking brake being used.the contact repaired the parking brake and the problem reoccurred.
The emergency break went out (which made a metal to metal noise all times when the suv is moving) causing the rear brake to go out. I have been in contact with the dealer on previous occasions and they stated this is not covered under warranty therefore if they look it will cost me. The dealer stated i drove with the emergency brake, which caused the brake to go out, which is untrue. I went to a personal mechanic who stated that this should not have happened and it should be covered under the warranty. After speaking with other gmc / chevrolet owners they are experiencing the same issues with the e brake going out, all have had the same response from the dealers.. *nlm
Parking brake on 2001 chevrolet tahoe has failed, and dealer is unable to repair it.dealer is aware of this problem because it is common to this vehicle, but stated that gm has not developed a fix.we have spent several hundred dollars to repair the brake over the last couple of years without success.unfortunately, now we have to rely on the automatic transmission to hold the vehicle in place when parked on hills.i always use the parking brake with my other vehicles and have not experienced any problems like this.parking brake certainly would be unable to stop the vehicle in an emergency if the primary brakes failed.i certainly believe that gm should make it a priority to find a solution to this problem and recall the effected vehicles.
I have a 2001 chevy tahoe i could not get my car inspected because the parking brake would not work .i took it to my repair shop and found the factory parking brake clips that hold the brake shoe in alignment were not designed properly.they now have an upgrade clip after the fact.the brake shoe causes $200 or more in damage to the rotor and pads and more concerning than that is you don't know you have a problem until the parking brake doesn't work! general motors does not take this serious enough to have a recall or warranty the repair this is a dangerous situation.people don't know about this problem. Thank you david.
Would not pass inspection. Man told me 3 out of 5 tahoes do not pass because parking brake does not work.
Emergency brake fails to hold will not permit vehicle to roll back but will permit vehicle to roll forward esp on hills.dt
Parking brake, starts to malfunctioningevery 15k, even when is rarely use, cost 130.00 to get it adjusted every time.
Dt: consumer file a compliant regarding a parking brake failure.contacted general motors and spoke with tiffany. Called 800-222-1820. General motors called the service center for this issue. Spoken to the service manager ,and his response was togiven\ the mileage on the vehicle, which was 80,000 miles. Expected the brake pads to wear down or be replaced. Whenengaging the parking brake the vehicle went ina roll ing motion. The brake pads should still be in good becauseconsumer did notuse the parking brake.
Premature emrgency brake failure on 2001 chevrolet tahoe. I have noticed a very loud "metal to metal" noise. Upon inspection it was found that the "emergency" brake was worn out. Research on the internet revealed other complaints of this nature on 2001 tahoes.
As with many other tahoe owners, i have the problem of premature parking brake failure in my 2001 tahoe.i rarely use it.at 50,000 miles it needs a second replacement.it is definitely a safety issue, because if you don't test it you will never know that there is a problem until your transmission park feature fails.then it is just a matter of who or what is down hill.
Parking brakes worn out pre-maturely.
The emergency brake was found defective when applied, the vehicle would still move at will, even with the brake pressed all the way to the floor.*sc
2001 chevrolet tahoe emergency brake wore out pre-maturely at 18,000 miles of freeway driving.always parked on level ground and kept in a garage.when taken to the dealership they said brakes were not covered under warranty and that this was normal.they wanted over $300.00 to replace the brake shoes in the separate emergency brake drums.this is more than a complete brake job on that car typically costs.
Parking brake on 2001 tahoe fails to hold vehicle.it will not pass state inspection until fixed.i have never used the brake and is my understanding that this is defect in 2001 tahoe that was never recalled.chevy needs to recall and fix the defected parking brake in all models.
The emergency brake on my 2001 chevy tahoe was diagnosed as having bad parking brake / e brake. I was unaware of this situation since i rarely need to use the parking brake. I will have to replace this item at a cost of approx. $575. Many other 2001 tahoes have experienced the same problem..i have replaced the parking e brakes twice since i purchased the tahoe and now they have failed a third time.i never use the parking brake!!virginia safety inspection has failed and i have already been pulled over for not having a safety sticker for the parking e brake.there is also a strong burning smell from the rear tire / brake area, i am sure the vehicle will catch fire from the friction the bad design has caused.parking brake pedal goes to the floor and will not hold the vehicle in drive, neutral, or reverse.also discovered that the passenger side parking e brake actuator lever is missing and the parking e brake cable is not connected to the passenger side, this same lever is reported online as mysteriously missing from other chevy trucks as well, it is bad when the same part on various vehicles is missing on the same side, coincidence or bad assembly line process, maybe defective part that breaks.repair is over 1000 dollars.parking e brake fails to hold the vehicle safely and is endangering lives.virginia law and safety inspections are not being met due to a serious design flaw of missing parts and a safety device not working properly on a vehicle.missing safety parts from the assembly is hazardous, if parts were not missing, then they fell off and is still dangerous.
2001 chevy tahoe parking brake failed - worn completely through in 35,000 miles.premature wear also damaged brake rotors.parking brake was completely inoperable.same issue occurred again october 29, 2004.next set of completely new rear main and parking brakes wore completely through within 6,000 miles.
Consumer stated theemergency brake failed to hold the vehicle, dealer had been notified, however consumer was informed the vehicle was no longer under warranty.
Parking brake failed inspection and has never worked right since the time of purchase. Parking brake pedal goes to the floor and will not hold the vehicle in drive, neutral, or reverse. Estimated cost for repair is 400.00. Repairs have not been made yet. It makes me very angry to read all of the complaints regarding the parking brake and all of the money people are having to pay to fix it temporarily. What makes me even more angry is that general motors/chevrolett seems to be aware of this problem and is not taking the responsibility to fix it. Does there have to be a death first?
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe.while the vehicle was parked on a hill, the contact attempted to release the hand brake three times.the hand brake loosened and a piece of metal with cable attached to it detached from the vehicle.the vehicle began to roll and nearly struck an older couple.gm advised him to bring the vehicle in for diagnosis, but he has not done so at this time.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 49,600.update 04-02-08
The left front and rear caliper are not working properly on my 2001 tahoe.the left rear is shot, and the pad has worn clear to the rivets witch ate up the rotor.the cooling shield has rotten away.i haven't checked the right rear yet.the brakes sound like they are grinding.the truck is now at my mechanic shop to be fixed.
The emergency brake on my 2001 chevy tahoe was diagnosed as having worn completely down to the metal. I was unaware of this situation since i rarely need to use the parking brake. I will have to replace this item at a cost of approx. $275. I understand that several other 2001 tahoes have experienced the same problem. I will hold onto the old part for awhile once the repair is completed.
Parking brake failed to hold vehicle with engine running and in gear at idle.vehicle jumped curb and hit shrubbery by building.
Parking brake friction pad premature wear and failure.it creates a dangerous situation when parking on a steep slope when towing a heavy loadif the transmission lockup mechanism should fail.operator manuals state to set the parking brake when parking a travel trailer.repair includes replacing the brake shoes an drums if necessary.
Dt*: the contact stated while having the vehicle inspected by an independent repair shop for a squeaking noise while braking, the repairman determinedthere was no problem with the service brakes but the emergency brake would not engage properly.the independent repair shop referred the contact to a dealer.the dealer confirmed that the emergency brake would not engage properly.although the contact did notuse the emergency brake nor did the emergency brake display any noticeable problems. While driving the contact was unable to determine how the emergency brakefailed.the dealer performed a vehicle history report based on the vin and notedthat the previous owner had several service records concerning the emergency brake.
Went to have a virginia state inspection done on the 2001 chevrolet tahoe and it failed becausethe emergency brake /arking brake was sticking, and that the emergency brake shoes were metal to metal.they stated that they had never seen this before.so to make it inspection worthy i had to pay $250.00 to replace the emergency brake shoes!!i have read this in many instances on the internet.
2001 chevrolet tahoe has an inoperative emergency brake system. Problem is currently be investigated and repaired.
The parking brake does not prevent vehicle from rolling.this has been a problem since the vehicle was new.dealer heard our complaints several times and has "serviced" the brake.independent service station affirmed that the brake can not be reparied to the point that it will prevent the vehicle from rolling.with the parking brake pedal applied to the floor, the vehicle freely rolls on even gentle slopes.the only thing that keeps the vehicle from rolling when it is parked is having the gearbox in the 'park' position.this is not only harmful to the transmission but we are reminded daily that the car has no mechanical means of stopping if we lose our hydraulic brakes.
Emergency brakes - missing parts new from factory. (non functioning)yr and vehicle - 2001 tahoe 1500i have all records on this vehicle from new.the emergency brakes on this truck, is missing the "actuating pin"(one passenger side) which allows the brake emergency shoe (inside the rotor) to expand when the cable is pulled. This caused only one rear wheel to work, ......wearing out the shoe and scoring the rotor..............(the other rotor and shoe are still new).since the vehicle has over 36,600 miles, it is out of warranty.what is more important is how many other, tahoe, suburban etc. Are missing "actuating pins" inside the adjuster, rendering it useless.in the case of a brake failure, the e-brakes would be useless.this has been this way since new......i have the diagrams from gm showing the missing part, and photos of my brakes with the missing part (please note the part is inside an enclosed piston........not able to get lost, also one shoe is completely gone the other is still new.
The consumer stated the emergency brake cables has failed completely.please provide additional information.
*sc
2001 chevrolet tahoe, went to have it inspected and the emergency brakes failed. I never used them so how can they be worn out? also, when i went to adjust the cable, it was already adjusted all the way that it could go. It should not have been adjusted out all the way. This came like this from the factory and i bought it new. Now the garage want $300 to replace the emergency brakes which are different than the disc pad brakes. They even said that the rotor might be worn out also. This is ridiculous! that's another $300 plus labor.
My parking brakes failed the annual safety inspection.i was told it was a problem with a cable and that if not fixed could cause damage to a rotor.fortunately, i have an extended warranty to help pay the cost.however, it seems the parking brake on this vehicle has always been weak since purchase.yet it has passed the safety inspection in the past.
Brakes failed to function properly. Brake pedal suddenly retracted to the floor and braking power was nearly lost. The brake fluid reservoir was almost empty. Upon investigation it was clear that fluid was leaking through a rusted steel line on the left rear of the vehicle. The line showed significant rust particularly within several inches where it connects above the rear differential. The right rear line was also very rusted in the same location but not yet leaking --- both lines where replace at owners expense. The steel line that leads up to the master cylinder is also very rusty.
Bad transmission there's reversebut no forward gears
Gas pedle stuck or linkage in cold weather. Did not drop our of paqssing gear but held in passing gear for a couple of seconds.pressing break could not overcome the engine reving.
I was traveling out of town in my 2001 cheverolet tahoe when the transmission started "slipping" it would not chg past 2nd gear. I had less than 55,000 miles. It cost me $500 bec i wanted another gm transmission and not the transmission the warranty was offering with only 12000 miles

Power train:transmission, would not go into reverse, have to have transmission rebuilt. This was without any noise or failure prior to this happening. Thankful i was not driving with my kids when the transmission locked up. I had just had this serviced in march of 2004. Without any warning this happend, and now i am faced with a 2000.00 repair bill.
Transmission was slipping due to insufficient fluid/paint thin primer showing through.
Consumer stated the automatic transmission was slipping from 2nd gear to the 3rd gear. Dealer had been notified and will replace the transmission .
Abs module, transmission, parking brake, throttle body, windows, rear a/c, steering suspension. Since we purchased the vehicle we have had to spend over $4000.00 on repairs that should be recalled due to safety.
Automatic transmission stopped shifting while driving. Dealer determined that transmission must be replaced.
Transmission was slipping due to insufficient fluid/paint thin primer showing through.
Transmission failure.vhicle became inoperable and required towing to repair facility.transmission required replacement.
When the vehicle shifts from 1st to 2nd, there is a shuddering noise coming from the transmission.*la
Vehicle was taken to a transmission shop for jerking between 10-20mph... I was told that the transmission had internal problems and it was common for the chevrolet trucks from 1996-2001 i have found well over 50 complaints of transmission failure on the internet in a matter of hours.i feel this is a serious problem that general motors needs to address.
I have a 2001 tahoe that has been relatively problem-free.recently, the transmission went out on it without warning.my wife was driving on the highway, heard a pop that sounded like a flat tire.she pulled off to inspect the car, but did not see anything visibly wrong. Turns out, she had no reverse, and could barely reach 50 mph, so i am guessing she was missing some gears.she was lucky enough to be able to get if off of the highway, and from there i had it towed to the dealer."something exploded in my transmission" were the mechanics words.i wondered how something could just "explode" in the transmission without warning, so i went searching the internet.turns out alot of people have seen this related to sun-shell failure.tsb 00822b/00822c, nhtsa item number 10005474.
Dt*:the contact stated without warning the vehicle slipped between 2nd and 3rd gear.the next day upon entering the vehicle, none of the forward gears worked.the vehicle was reversed out of the parking lot and towed to an independent repair shop.the repair shop determined the front planetary drive snapped because a bearing broke loose.the transmission needs to be rebuilt.
Very poor wet road traction, spinning wheels starting from stops.sliding to stops on wet roads with only moderate application ofbrakes. (tiresize: p265-70-16)( dot number:tire size: p265-70-16 )
The shift lever arm on the automatic transmission had rusted sufficiently that the shift cable connection slipped off the nipple on the shift lever arm. It appears to be a snap fit without any positive retention.it was then not possible to shift gears or re-start the engine. Luckily this happened in my own driveway just after i had driven home on the freeway.the repair shop replaced the lever arm and the complete cable assembly. I have the defective parts.
While driving in dry weather vehicle tries to engage into 4 wheel drive. Vehicle starts to shutter. Took to dealer ,and dealer greased yoke in transfer case, changed oil, but problem still exists. Cannot find cause.
Immediately after application of the anti-loch brakes at low speeds in 2 wheel high mode, the vehicle seems to "lock up" the wheels as if it were in 4 wheel drive. We get severe wheel hop and when we stop the vehicle, then restart it there is a very loud clunking sound. After that the vehicle preforms normally. The problem also goes away if the vehicle is turned off. The vehicle goes into 4 wheel auto, 4 wheel low and 2 wheel high normally at all other times. Again, the problem only happens when the antilock brakes are activated at low speeds (no problem from high speed stops) and it has happened twice in the past 5 minths.

I have a 2001 chevy tahoe. I purchased the vehicle 2 years. For the year i have heard a clicking noise and a knocking noisewhen i turn and then the noise starting getting louder.four months ago i was pulling out of my drive way and the noise turned into a scratching sound. I parked the vehicle for 2 days took it to dealer ship and they said nothing was wrong with it. Well little did i know that nothing turned into the rear end gear differential going completely out. Now i am with out a vehicle. This is while i have my 4 children in the vehicle with me on our way to the doctors office. I broke down on the side of the road. Could not go forward what so ever. Every time i would put it into drive it would make this horrible loud noise. I am not sure if i should contact the manufacturer or what. Can some one tell me anything if it has happened to you and how much it coast to be fixed. I have an extendedwarranty but it will not cover it.
The consumer stated that the transmission had shifted from drive to 3rd and back again while the vehicle was in motion. Also, the trasmission clunks when put into reverse and the engine revved up and down while shifting.

The front passenger seat belt locks up and can't be adjusted.it continues to get tighter after fastening and allows for no movement.it is very uncomfortable and does not allow for any movement. It has been that way since original purchase in 2001.i have brought to attention of chevy dealership.answer always being that there is no recallfor this issue.

On august 3, 2003, christopher moffeit, audrey moffiet and their twin daughters, mackenzi moffiet and mallory moffeit, were involved in a motor vehicle rollover accident while traveling in their 2001 chevrolet tahoe.mackenzie and her sister, mallory, were securely buckled into their child safety seats which were fastened into the backseat of the tahoe with seatbelts.forensic evidence indicates that the seatbelt securing mackenzi's child safety seat released during the rollover collision.mackenzi's child safety seat was ejected from the tahoe.as a result of the injuries she sustained, mackenzi passed away several days after the accident.forensic evidence indicates that the seatbelts of christopher and audrey also released during the rollover collision.both were ejected and died august 3, 2003 as a result of the injuries they sustained in said accident.
Passenger side seat belt when used for an large sized adult rachets if the passenger leans forward.the passenger would then have to take the seat belt off and refasten the belt to get it fit properly.the dealership has put a seat belt extender on the passenger side to accomadate the extra length needed.the owner still feels this is not a proper fix for the seat belt.please provide detailsts

2001 chevy tahoe; rear passenger seat belts does not retract, the seat belt has to be manual adjusted with a screw driver and doing so cracked the panel.was only one side but over the years now it is both side.one side just will not retract at all anymore.i have read complaints from other people having the same issue thought it was just us but it must be a manufacture defect.do not like that they do not retracting if we get in an accident and does not protect our son!thanks
The front passenger seat belt does not work - it chokes the passenger.the seat belt has been replaced twice; the entire seat was replaced once, but it is still a problem.we have a seat belt law in my state, but the seat belt cannot be worn.
Drivers seat heating senor over heated.the dealer made repairs at 28,000 miles. Now at the present mileages of 33,000 miles the problem hasresurfaced. The passenger seat belt would continue to tighten on the occupant while driving.the spare tire cable plastic connector would not release the spare tire. *sc
I bought a 2001 chevrolet tahoe in march of 2004.since that time the front seat belts have been replaced 2 times.currently the tahoe is in hawthorne chevrolet in hawthorne nj, trying to get it repaired for the third time.i have contacted chvrolet themselves about this.i am worried that it will be unable to be repaired.if that happens chevrolet seems resistant to stand behind the safety defect of there manufactored truck.my truck obviously can not be released from the dealer until fixed.october 13 was the 5th day in the shop for the truck and it was returned there that day and is still there.
I bought a 2001 chevrolex tahoe used in march of 2004.since then the front seat belts have not worked properly.it has been to the dealer 6 times for 3 replacements.still not fixed.gm has moved my issue to custoimer relations and i was supposed to call me back on novemeber 8 and as on novemeber 29 i still have not been called back.contact person at gm is craig king (813)635-4084.driver belt locks up as you try to put it on and sometimes can not get belt on.passanger belt locks up on passanger and will not unluck even when passanger leans back.person gets trapped against seat and realesing belt from buckle only way for person to move.
Passenger's side seat belt locks up and gets very tight and continues to get even tighter upon any slight movement. Consumer has contacted dealer, and they are unable to correct problem. Consumer was advised by dealer that belt meets gm's spec, consumer feels belt is unsafe since the passenger must remove the belt to retract and reset, a larger person can not wear the belt.
While drivingwould step onbrakes and seat belt will not holdbody like others vehicles that seat belt will hold.
Seat belts locks without any apparent reason. Belt will not release unless belt is removed and allowed to recoil completely into the seat. Belt is then reapplied. Tahoe has been in for service four times. Belt has been replaced three times. Last time date of service 10-30-01. On 10-31-01 gm rep reviewed problem and instructed service dept not to do anything else with the belt that the locking was "normal procedure". I fail to see removing a safety belt is normal procedure. Manager at martin burks stated chevrolet was aware belts were defective and recalled them (i never received a letter). On the third visit to the service dept the "new" non-defective belt was installed - seems to me the belt is still defective considering rider has to remove the belt to unlock it.
Shoulder restraint fails to lock, it continually retracts while driver is wearing it.with every movement seat belt continues to tighten restricting any movement of your upper body. Driver restraint is very dangerous. The driver is forced to make a decision as to whether wear the shoulder restraint and cause an accident or not wear it and be in danger as well as breaking the law! although the retracting mechanism squeaks all the time, the retraction difficulties are intermittent.the problem started when the vehicle was less than 3 years old, but general motors refuses to repair the seat belt under warranty because the vehicle has 49k miles, despite the obvious hazard to the vehicle owner and others sharing the roadway at the time.

Consumer received a recall notice regarding the seat belts.consuemr followed the instructions provided and signed the recall notice because the parts that were under recall did not apply to consumers vehicle.consumer sent recall card in but received another recall notice saying the recall was not done.a third recall notice was sent saying the same. Consumer will make an appointment to have the recall looked at again.consumer objects to what chevrolets records may show.*jg
Very concerned about inablility to maintan seat mounted seatbelt shoulder strap on shoulder with any shoulder movement.shoulder strap continues to slide off shoulder concerned about safety implications because of positioning of shoulder strap in event of accident.unable to get any safety information from gm concerning this issue or seatbelt protection for this vehicle in general.i don't wish to be one of your stats in the next four years before this may carefully be looked at.thank you.
While driving down rote 17m in monroe ny two of the passengers complained that their seat belts locked up on the again. These the 2 females now in the 2nd row seats who were injured by the seat belt failure in the 3rd row seats just one week prior. Both girls had the factory adjust on so the seat belt sat properly on their shoulders. The seat belt only loosened up after being released from the buckle. Chevy refuses to repair/replace the seat belts/tahoe. At this point this have made failures of all 6 seat belts with shoulder straps. This time the girls were sitting on opposite sides of the tahoe as compared to the 6/12/2005 incident and were lucky not to have received bruising on the opposite shoulders as last time
Rear middle seat belt will not retract and therefore is not safe for use.this has been serviced yet still hangs up frequently.have to remove panel to get access to apply temporary fix.
My chevy tahoe was being driven back from watching the nascar race in the poconos pawhen driving along interstate 84 two of the third row passengers complained that their shoulders hurt from the seat belts not moving. The seat belts locked in place and only would loosen up when the seat belt was released from the clip. Before passenger female girls ages 12 & 11 used the adjustment straps in the vehicle so the belt would sit properly on their shoulders. After stopping to eat. The 11 year old was unable to strap in again since the belt would not extend the 6 inches more to get it to lock into place. Both girls did receive bruising to there shoulder. Gm says there is nothing wrong with the sea belts in the tahoe and refuses to fix or replace the tahoe/seat belts.
The contact owns a 2001 chevy tahoe. The rear passenger seat belts do not retract and has caused the passengers to sit in the middle of the rear seat to use the lap belt. In order to use the seat belts she has to make adjustments to them with a screw driver. The contact feels this is a safety issue since someone can be injured due to the seat belts failure. The current mileage was 122,350 and the failure mileage was 99,000.updated 10/21/09. *ljthe consumer stated the rear shoulder seats belts continue to jam and don't retract.when they do retract, they are very slow.updated 10/20/09
Seat belt malfunction!!since the purchase of my 2001 tahoe...(new) the back right passenger seatbelt continues to lock up.it has been replaced and "repaired" several times to no avail. I believe there is a defect somewhere!i also have 2 friends with the same exact problem!same seat belt.i have 2 small children and this could be dangerous.is gm waiting for an accident to happen?
Abs module, transmission, parking brake, throttle body, windows, rear a/c, steering suspension. Since we purchased the vehicle we have had to spend over $4000.00 on repairs that should be recalled due to safety.
Seats are designed to accomodate a male not a female. Since females are more likely nowadays to buy this vehicle, comfort issues are problem. A major deal is the way the seat folds you in half opposed to reclining you. Also the seat support presses against your middle back causing you to have to push your torso outward while your legs are downward. You feel like you are constantly having to flex your abs and it is just a major discomfort especially with your back. Please note that only 1man noticedthis problem but each and every womennoticed it also -immediately,resulting in loss of sale to other manufacturer's vehicle. I have names and complaints even from a female owner of an older denali with comfort seats who dislikes the new seats. Also the seat-belts are extremely tight. The seats dont go back far enough and the rear seat has no leg room.my compalints resulted in different solutions like "we can't alter the seat at all or it'll void the warranty" "you should have noticed that before you drove it off the lot, it's yours now" "you can take it to an upholstery shop but you'll have to pay for it" "the latest, take it to upholstery shop and see what they can do which the upholstery shop said not much since gmc put the airbag in the seat" knowing all this, i should have purchased the plain tahoo because the discomfort was not worth 13,000.00 difference!

Safety issue: while traveling at highway speed, the drivers seat right side back support bracket failed. The only thing keeping it upright is the left side bracket and seat covering in tension. In my opinion, a seat bracket should not fail during the life of the vehicle. I do not push back on my seat, as i have seen others in there vehicles to create more space behind the steering wheel. In fact, i sit up close to the steering wheel in an upright position. The vehicle has not been involved in any collisions during the life of the vehicle. I have been driving the vehicle since 5 miles on the odometer.

I own a 2001 chevy tahoe.on october 5th, 2005 i smelled something burning.when i parked my car and pulled a file folder off the seat, it was singed and there was smoke coming from the passenger seat.there was also a brown burn mark and the leather seat was melted.i went to an appointment, making sure there were no indicator lights on.two hours later i started the car and the smoke began again, this time much worse.i went to sandberg cadillac; they were going to charge me $110 to disconnect the seat.the service manager had gotten into the car to move it and said the seat was still smoldering.they tore the seat out of the car and there was a fire under the leather. At that time the $110 discussion was dropped.i made a comment to the 5 gentleman that this is under warranty, but isn't this safety issue all agreed.steve and i went back inside and he arranged for a loaner car, through enterprise.sergio said that he would be putting a call into his gm rep and that he would talk to them about covering the expense of the seat and getting my car back to the original condition of before the fire.there was chemical smoke damage on the interior which dan; the technician assured me they had a machine that would be able to get rid of that smell.october 6th, i speak with sergio and after speaking with the gm rep he is not willing to cover the damage and the extended warranty will cover the hardware, but not the actual seat cushion or cover.at this time we are looking at $1000 worth of damage not including the any rental car expense. I at that time requested a corporate number and reached a bruce mitchell.i gave him the details of the incident and he assured me that someone would be in contact with me between 24 and 48 hours.i am now at the 48 hour mark and have heard nothing.
About 3 weeks ago driver's side seatoverheated. At one point the seat got so hot that it scorched the leather.consumercontacted dealer, and was told that there was no recall on this problem.consumer had it repaired because he thought that it wasa safety issue.
Consumer 2001 chevy tahoe passenger seat was burning . While the vehicle was in motion the consumer smelled burning.there was a blown burn mark in the leather seat where there was melting.the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they simply disconnected the seat warmer.the consumer requested that the vehicle be placed back in it's original condition and be reimbursed for the car rental.*sc
I am writing to you at the request of general motors service advisor.i have a 2001 chevrolet tahoe.at 39,000 miles one of the third seat latches in the back broke.this prevented the seat from latching down in place and let the seat pop in and out of the floor mounted locking brackets.general motors customer service sent me to the dealership and agreed to cover the item as a warranty issue and then subsequently asked me to file a complaint with nhtsa so that the issue could be looked at to see if there are any other similar circumstances in which the safety of an occupant riding in the seat could be compromised.2001 chevrolet tahoevin1gnek13t51r101941part number 12478359
Consumer states that the bench portion of the middle row of seats collapsed forward ,and the middle row seatback is stuck in position and cannot be adjusted at all.
Brakes went to floor before holding - no hydraulics. Brake line failure/rupture with heavy leak of brake fluid under driver seat area. Suspected corrosion.
Two rusted brake lines from the master cylinder to master distribution block under the truck caused the brake pedal to go to the floor at 50 mph and ran thru a 4 way stop intersection in a rural area, thank you jesus i'm alive, lot's of rust on the lower rockers etc. On both sides
Abs low speed activation.any time coming to a stop or slowing the abs will activate at low speeds around and under 10mph. Very unsafe and dangerous to have your brakes locking up when simply trying to come to a stop.
Rear steel brake lines rusted out. I was driving on the highway at about 50 miles per hour and the brake pedal went to floor & had to pump brakes. Had to turn off to berm of road to keep from hitting car in front of me. Had to have rear brake lines replaced and the mechanic suggested all brake lines be replaced because of the rust. I had all the brake lines replaced for over $600 dollars. The tahoe has only 41000 miles on it and almost caused an accident. It happens all of a sudden& it take a few seconds before you can figure out what to do, taking much longer distance to stop. They need to recall these brakes as soon as possible before more accidents happen.
Anti lock brakes are jerking and make a noise at slow speeds.
Truck brakes lines just rotted out completely had to replace entire lines.
My wife was executing a turn, headed downhill, and stepped on the brake pedal, only to have it travel to the floor, and not stop the truck. I had been towing a trailer with surge brakes the day before, which would not have activated without being able to slow the vehicle. The problem was a failed front brake line from the master cylinder to the antilock actuator, resulting in a complete loss of front brake hydraulic pressure.i had also had it inspected recently and it passed safety. In locating the burst brake line, it was above the frame rail, in a spot i would not expect to be visually inspectable. I am replacing all the lines in the truck with the same material used by bmw and volvo now, and consulting with my service tech about relocating the antilock actuator to an accessible area under the hood, for less line exposure to elements. This truck has been garaged most of it's life, and undercarriage washed after exposure to road salt. This is clearly a manufacturer defect. I have a 2006 tahoe at work, garaged all it's life and rarely driven in wet weather, 60,000 miles, that had a rear brake line fail in 2011 or 2012. I'll file a separate complaint for that, but as a fleet vehicle, it's maintained meticulously. It's also essentially the same vehicle as my 2001, which had it's lines last longer, but still fail without warning. I want gm to recall these vehicles and fix the problem. Mine will be fixed with better materials, so i don't want a recall on mine, to have cheap cost-cutter parts installed. I want them recalled before someone like my daughter, an inexperienced new driver, has to deal with a loss of brakes during a normal life and maintenance routine of her vehicle.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact was driving 65 and applied the brakes to to avoid crashing into a deer. The brakes seized and the vehicle failed to respond. The contact lost control of the vehicle and rolled over multiple times. Also, the front and side air bags on the passenger and driver's side failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained a concussion and several lacerations. Prior to the crash the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the abs system failed. The vehicle was taken to another dealer for a second opinion who was unable to find any failure codes. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The current and failure mileage was 160,000.
Operating on the rear access road to a mall and noticed brake pedal almost went to the floor and it took a strong effort to stop the vehicle.tried pumping brakes to see if pedal would rise, it did not. Checked brake fluid reservoir and it was slightly down.looked under truck and no leak at all four wheels or on inside master cylinder cowl.drove slowly to nearby mechanic and this time noticed dripping under driver side floor.mechanic said i needed brake line replacement and am awaiting repair.vehicle is well maintained, always parked on paved driveway, and waxed along with undercarraige car washes during the winter months.purchased used from chevy dealer and found left rear backing plate had almost rotted off exposing rear axle seals which dealer replaced within week of my purchase.
While driving on interstate 676 approaching a traffic stop i pushed on the breaks and the pedal went to the floor forcing me to try to avoid a collision in front as i tried to turn into the middle lane veering right i hit the drivers side door of another car. I immediately took the tahoe to a repair shop who said my break lines were corroded ant the break fluid came out of them ilve in northeast pa where salt on the roads if used a lot in the winter.
When attempting to stop my vehicle going about 5 mph, there was a vibration in my brake pedal and the vehicle continued to role in the path way of a tractor trailer. I thought my life was about to end so i hit the gas and ended driving up on the curb to get out of ongoing traffic. My boss told me that there was a recall on our department vehicles that were tahoes because of an antilocking brake issue. I looked up the recall on motortrend and the recall explains exactly what happened to me when i almost died. I took my vehicle to the chevy dealer and the guy ran man vin number and stated there are no active recalls on my vehicle. I called the chevy dealer and the female on the phone stated that recalls are done by vin numbers and maybe my number was accidentally skipped. This is off motortrend. Recall date: aug 29, 2005 model affected: 2001 chevrolet tahoe summary: certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles may experience unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. This condition is more likely to occur in environmentally corrosive areas. This recall will be launched in the "salt belt" states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maryland, massachusetts, maine, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin and the district of columbia only. Consequences: this can cause increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications, which could result in a crash.potential units affected: 1353718 notes: general motors corp.read more: http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2001/chevrolet/tahoe/recalls/#ixzz38lpommdc.
At low speeds coming to a stop, my abs has been engaging and not allowing me to stop when appropriate. I have avoided several rear ending incidents, 3 today. I have seen that ther has been a recall on this issue but my vin hasnt been included. I really need this issue taken care of. I have four children that are with me on normal occasions. This happens at nearly every stop, stop sign, light, parking ect.
Brakes failed do to rusted brake lines. Driving on 55 mph road stoplight turned just as i approached it stepped on the brake peddle and it slowly went to the floorboard. I could not stop in time and went through a red light, i was lucky, this could have been a disaster with loss of life. I was told all my brake lines were rusted and needed to be replaced at a cost of $1500.00.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph and attempting to stop, the brakes malfunctioned and caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The contact crashed into an embankment and several trees. The contact suffered from a left leg injury, multiple hip abrasions and contusions. A police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the failure was caused by a ruptured brake line and the fact that there was no brake fluid in the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 141,597.
My daughter was driving our 2001 chevy tahoe, that we have owned since new, in columbus ohio.she was doing 35 mph down a city street, when she went to stop, the brakes went to the floor.after running a few red lights and almost getting into 2 accidents, she slowed the vehicle down and into a parking space.i had it towed to jack maxton chevy and they said the brake lines were completely rusted away and gave me a quote of $5000.00 to replace everything.i did not do the repair and am currently weighing my options.
Brakes failed due to brake lines rusted through.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that he attempted to decelerate but the brake pedal failed to respond. Upon inspection, it was found that the brake lines had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.updated 08/27/13*lj
When coming to a stop antilock fires noisily then the brake pedal goes to the floor and vehicle keeps rolling forward (in traffic- into buildings- into fences- onto curbs) antilock brakes are failing and making the system not work properly.
Metal brake lines rusted and corroded. Lines placed in an area of the vehicle where they will rust and corrode then causing them to burst at very un-opportune moments. Causing wreckage. My vehicle lost its brakes on a highway when the vehicle in front of me came to a stop to turn off the highway, waiting for another vehicle to clear. I started braking and lost my brakes, so i took the side of the road to avoid an accident. I got myself home and looked under the vehicle
I had to replace 2 brake lines that failed on separate occasions .the brake lines are covered in rust, the abs system does not work and is now disconnected.the dealer stated abs problem was front wheel sensors, after they replaced both sensors they than determined it was my abs computer.i told them to learn how to troubleshoot on someones else's vehicle and removed it. The under carriage of this vehicle had been coated with a lite undercoating from the factory, as the coating falls you can see extensive rust on the exposed metal surfaces. In my opinion the metal was not prepared correctly before it was coated, for this to happen.the service manager from the dealer stated, the rust condition should be a class action law suit.i have purchase no corrosive brake line and will change lines as needed.
I started to have the brake light and one other light come on while driving.i discovered that there was a recall for this but it was for vehicles in 'snow-belt states'.i bought this car from carmax in charlotte nc which was not on the list for 'snow-belt states'.i have since lost my abs system.i don't know if it is now part of the recall and is my vehicle still eligble?
Our son and a friend were traveling on major street approaching a stop light controlled intersection, applied the service brake to have it push to the floorboard. He narrowly avoided rear ending stopped traffic and swerved across the yellow line onto a side-street in attempt to stop vehicle without a crash, next to the police station. All the brake lines required replacing due tothe hidden rust on the lines as they are mounted on top of the frame. Our son had just returned from college with the vehicle, had this happened on the highway at 75 mph this could have had tragic results. The repair shops were familiar with this issue as a number of customers with similar gm models have recently experienced the same issue. This was a very time consuming and expensive repair, and we consider ourselves lucky to not have a different conclusion.
Live in minneapolis, and just lost the brakes on my 2001 chev tahoe lt this week. Had been going down i-494 at 65 mph minutes before this. Four blocks from my house driving on a main road, snowy and icy, made a left hand turn to my side street, and the car kept going straight. Hit the brakes, the abs activated, and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.virtually no brakes, but i managed to complete the turn without hitting anything, and limp it home. In the garage now getting fixed, estimated $500 - $1,000.with some googling and talking to 4 garages, it seems to be a pretty common problem. Amazing to me that gm has not been forced into a recall over this. This could be fatal, if it hasn't been already.
While driving my chevy tahoe i experienced complete brake failure luckily i was able to stop the vehicle with the use of the emergency break and i did not have an accident. I had no indication that the breaks were going bad until i lost them completely. I had the vehicle towed to a shop the mechanic told me that two break lines were busted and that the rest were corroded. He told me that he has done 5 chevy break line systems in the last 3 months an apparently this is a know issue with chevy trucks. It seems like the break lines only last a few years before they are corroded and rusted and eventually the break without warning or notice this is unsafe and i think chevy needs to do a recall on this issue. I have never had any break line issues with any other make of vehicle.
My son was driving on i-95 into baltimore when he had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting another vehicle and the 2001 tahoe immediately lost braking power.he was able to maneuver onto the shoulder to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of him but the brakes were no longer operating properly.there was no longer any resistance in the brake pedal and minimal stopping power. `he was able to bring the vehicle into a parking garage by driving slowly and in low gear. I had the vehicle towed home and examined it and determined that the brake fluid reservoir was empty and that it had leaked out of a corroded and broken brake line at the midpoint of the chassis.all of the metal brake lines are corroded and will need to be replaced.there was no advance warning of any impending brake line failure. The vehicle has been registered in maryland since purchased new and there is relatively little snow that falls in the winter and as a result there is almost no other corrosion on this vehicle so seeing the brake lines corroded leads me to believe that an inferior grade of steel was used on this critically important component.to make matters worse the brake line in the area of the failure is located above the frame and is not visible from below and therefore cannot be inspected for corrosion. When the oil is changed and when the brakes are replaced the brake lines are checked but in the area of the failure as stated they cannot be inspected. I believe gm should be required to recall all vehicles with this type of metal brake line and be required to replace them with a better grade of stainless steel as it is reasonably foreseeable that fatalities will be the logical consequence of this type of failure in a significant percentage of these incidents.
On may 20, 2015 our 2001 chevrolet tahoe experienced a hydraulic brake line explosion due to excessive corrosion almost causing an accident. There was no warning light indication. The warning light came on long after the fact when testing the brakes while the vehicle was stationary.the steel hydraulic brake line to the left rear wheel ruptured totally unexspectedly.this is a serious safety related problem. General motors is aware and only a technical service bulletin has been issued, no recall. The nhtsa must demand that gm recall these vehicles for replacement of all these inferior hydraulic brake lines before deaths and serious injuries occur. I am submitting this form to make it public knowledge that this is a serious problem that could cause death and serious property damage if not addressed on all the affected vehicles. I am truly grateful that my wife was not injured or killed.
Emergency brake wears itself without being engaged to the point when you need it, it does not work.
We were driving the vehicle and the brakes stopped working.we discovered that all the brake lines were corroded .research on the internet showed that numerous people have had the same issue with chevrolet vehicles built at this time.there has not been a recall by chevrolet at this time.
Abs brake light would come on when trying to stop then it would not stop correctly and almost ran over curb onto sidewalk. Replaced sensor twice before the light and brakes worked correctly.
I was driving north on rt 67 in southbury ct. When a deer crossed the street in front of me.i applied the brakes firmly and at first they felt fine, then they just went to the floor.fortunately thecar slowed from the first application of the brakes since i no brakes after that point.using the e-brake i inched my way to a safe spot on the side of the road and called a tow truck.the car is currently at a repair shop and i am waiting for an estimate.this incident appears to match many others related to ea11001.as you know, this might have turned out differently under other circumstances.fortunately in my case, the deer jumped out at the right place at the right time.if the deer did not jump out and the brakes failed later in my trip i might have been on a hill or at a busy intersection where injury and property damage would have been a certainty.i find it remarkable that ea11001 is taking so long to resolve given the seriousness of this issue.please provide me with any updated information.thank you.
I had just come off the highway and fortunately was completing a parallel parkwhen the brake pedal could be pressed to the floor. Thecar did not stop.i essentially rolled into the car in front of me to stop.a large amount of brake fluid was on the ground near the rear drivers side wheel.when the car was stopped i opened the door and looked back as i pushed the brake pedal to the floor.i saw colored fluid spraying out sideways from the rear. Subsequently had brake line repaired.
The steel brake line from the abs unit to the rear brakes has corroded and is leaking from above the steel frame forward from the left rear tire.fortunately this occurred as i pulled into my garage after driving over 150 miles round trip at highway speeds and in city traffic.this could have been disasterious, causing serious injuries, death, and/or property damage if the line would have failed during the trip!after searching the internet, this brake line failure looks like it's a common problem!
In pressing the brake pedal it went all the way to the floor because, as i found out later, all of the brake fluid had leaked out due to brake line rust and corrosion. No warning at all (e.g. Soft pedal) and this vehicle doesn't have a speck of rust on it. I replaced all of the brake lines at a cost of nearly $1400.00.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the brake pedal felt like a sponge when it was depressed. The contact discovered that the brake lines were rusted and corroded and the brake fluid reservoir was empty due to brake fluid leaking from the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 81,845.
The parking brakes do not work have owned the tahoe for 2 years and never used the parking brakes now all the sudden the parking brakes makes a loud squealing noise and i think there is enough complaints about the brakes to warrant a recall before some one does get killed or injured .also they had a recall on the brakes and abs but only in the so called salt belt and the owners that don't live there shouldn't have to pay to get the same thing fixed that the recall should cover in the first place no matter where you live.
A brake line burst from abs module to rr brake and pedal went all the way to the floor. Lost half the fluid and fluid continued to drain when brake was applied to park the vehicle. Gm claim that the vehicle has a dual brake system apparently does not prevent complete brake failure. Wife was very upset as the pedal was completely at the floor. Luckily vehicle was not on thruway at 65 mph when failure occurred. The vehicle is in mint condition inside and outand washed frequently. Repair shop indicated that the brake lines were badly rusted. Gm should be obligated to notify owners of similar vehicles and truck of the danger of complete brake failure.brake lines should not be made of mild steel that is subject to rusting through as this is life and death safety issue.
2001 tahoe brakes failed...line rupture, causing my wife to plow through a red light at an intersection and narrowly avoid a crash. This is my third gm brakeline failure. The other two occurred on a 1999 pontiac bonneville, again with instant, no warning, loss of brake power. Fortunately, those events were in parking lots at very low speed.yes, there is some, maybe 30% of brake power left on the tahoe, but the stopping distance is magnified greatly once speed is above 15 mph. I can cite at least six other acquaintances with simialr brake line failures on gm vehicles from the y2000 era design.something is grossly wrong with gm, and perhaps others, brake line components. Just visually examine the brakelines and they appear ready to crumble at many places due to substantial exterior corrosion. Never had this problem on the many vehicles owned over the years. Make them fix it at their cost, please. I can't think of a single more critical system for driver safety on a vehicle than the brake system. It has to be physically reliable for the life of the car.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. While driving approximately 10 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but failed to respond. The contact was able to slow the vehicle down by pumping the brake pedal. The abs warning and brake warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 100.
Brake line failure, resulting in loss of brake control.brake line corroded.
Driving home and pressed on brakes at a stop light and petal went to the floor.pumped brakes and just barely stopped before hitting another car.tahoe brake lines were completely rusted to nothing.this is a big problem!!many people don't look at their brake lines until they crash.please get gm to fix this problem before more customers are hurt.
Low speed abs failure (brakes pulsate) when stoppingor turning between 3-10 mph.issue appears to be cooroded front wheel sensors.
I was driving my 2001 chevy tahoe at moderate speed when the abs and parking indicator light come on.in addition there was pulsing which i believe is from the abs system when i tried slowing down from 25 mph.i did research on tsb and did find there was an issue with this kind of problem affecting gm suv from 2000-2006 regarding speed sensor and corrosion of brake lines .i informed the chevy dealer of this tsb and they refused to acknowledge this issue and wanted me to pay in excess of $1200 to fix this problem.i feel the dealer representing gm is not acting in good faith.as i told them this is a safety issue and not asking for anything unreasonable considering the assistance from tax payer.i appreciate your assistance.regards.
I was driving on the pa turnpike. Lightly applied my brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor.the brake lines are corroded and blew.
My brake lines keep bursting. I wasn't even driving, i was in park, applied the brakes to put it gear and the pedal went right to the floor. This is the second time, i just spent $400 to have the rears replaced while on the road. I was stuck out of state. Now it happened again. Please help, i can't afford a repair right now.
My daughter was driving along the freeway when suddenly she had to brake and the pedal went down to the floor, the truck not stopping. She got in the slow lane and had to go very slow to her destination. Thank god she's a good driver or she could've killed herself or someone else. I met her at her destination to check out my truck and found that when you stepped on the brake pedal, brake fluid poured out from under the chassis of the truck in the area of the rear driver side door.so i looked at the rest of my brake lines and they are full of rust.
Was coming to a stop at intersection. And could not stop, brakes failed.. Mechanic says all lines are completely corroded.. Extremely dissatisfied, seems many other gm owners have same issues, should be recalled huge safety issue with these vehicles.
Steel brake lines are rusted.all of the under body lines show a lot of rust. Rear feed line from abs block ruptured at rear axle.i repaired that line, when i attempted to bleed the system the rear feed line and the in flow line popped leaks.luckily i had enough braking to stop.
Corroded/rusty brake line ruptured causing sudden brake loss in heavy stop and gotraffic in a work zone. Used the parking brake to avoid collision.
Started car and brake felt squishy and unresponsive.no braking power and foot completely depressed to floor in order to eventually stop when traveling just with foot off accelerator or less than 10mph. Was rear brakes.same thing happened to front brakes in april 2015.vehicle driving fine.stopped to get gas and when started car up brakes were squishy and foot had to be depressed all the way to the floor in order to stop and that was traveling without using accelerator or going less than 10mph.both times complete replacement of all hoses and brake fluid.didn't seem like normal wear and tear at all.if i had been driving at speed it would most likely have resulted in an accident both times.
In the past i have sent several emails to chevrolet corporate office re the abs brake system on my tahoe which first failed with only 130 miles on the vehicle.vehicle almost tipped overbut i recovered the braking system and stopped vehicle only inches from going off a cliff and into the ravine below.i love my tahoe which now has 109000+ miles on it but the abs brake system has never worked and on several occasions almost wiped out myself and a passenger because brakes failed to engage.i filed several complaints with the chevrolet dealer in austin, tx where i bought my tahoe and also here in taos, nm where i currently live.recently i had the chevrolet dealer here in taos run a diagnostic on my abs brakes.result was that the brake system was defective and would cost $2000 to repair!i feel chevrolet should pay for the repair since my tahoe was delivered from the factory with defective abs brakes.as it is, my tahoe cannot be resold since the system as is could kill anyone in this vehicle if they did not know how to recover when pedal is all the way to the floor and vehicle is picking up speed rather than slowing down.certainly even i could hit an elk standing in middle of highway because i would not be able to recover brake system in time.
My abs light in on and when i push down on it makes noise plus it push back a little
Brake system failure.
On a number of occasions when stopping the vehicle at a low-speed, typically pulling up to a stop sign, a vibration can be felt in the brake and the vehicle does not slow down.under additional pressure, the brake pedal then slips down a bit and the brakes then engage.i have not taken the vehicle back to the dealership yet as the problem occurs infrequently.so far, other than an extended stopping distance, there are not been any adverse consequences.the most recent incident 07-may-2005.
Driving on 93s in somerville ma in am rush hour traffic.the van in front of me stopped and i applied my brakes, they never worked.i was travelling approx. 10-12 mph and never stopped, therefore crashing into the van in front of me and pushing him into another car.
A loud air blower sound could/can be heard from the car. Took the car to two mechanics who both told me the abs system had failed and needed to be turned off in order to not drain the battery. The only corrective action is to purchase $1,200 part + labor from the same manufacturer with no guaruntee the part will work. Was told by mechanics they see the abs failures in chevy products daily. In november i was in an accident because abs system had been disengaged due to failure. I do not feel safe driving this car and will sell as soon as possible.
I have a 2001 tahoe with an abs problem.after i turn the vehicle off i hear a motor sound under the truck, and te abs light stays on. I popped out that 60 amp abs fuse and the noise stopped, so i guess its possibly a stuck relay switch.
(unwanted activation of abs system when braking at low speed) i first took my vehicle in to mckluskey chevrolet in cincinnati, oh., to diagnose and advise a method of repair on 06-07-08. They responded that i needed new wheel hubs on both right and left front wheels, at a cost of approximately $780.00. I advised them that there is a gm service bulletin #03-05-25-007a issued that gives instruction on how to clean the sensors, etc. They advised that they had tried this approximately 10 times on other vehicles and that the procedure never worked. I contacted mr. Bob mckinney, local gm service representative, who called the dealership and instructed them to perform this procedure at no charge. I dropped the vehicle off today, 06-14-05 at 8:00 a.m., and their service advisor called me back at 9:30 a.m. And left a message stating that they tried the service bulletin procedure, but it did not work. I question how they were able to complete all aspects of the bulletin and retest the vehicle in less than 90 minutes. Regardless, i have also been in contact with two different gm customer service representatives who have been unable to assist me in any manner. This is a dangerous situation, and because there is a recall in canada, and a service bulletin issued, i feel as if gm is responsible for correcting this problem. However, i find myself situated between the dealership and gm, with no one working on my side. My vin # is [xxx]. Electronic brake control module failure.required relacement of module and battery that failed as a result of continuous brake module operation.total repair cost $939.01.
I have a 2001 tahoe recently the abs light came on.later that day when the ignition was off, the abs pump was still running.i disconnected the 60a fuse that feeds the abs system and it stopped.i took it to the dealer but with 52,000 miles it was not covered, and wanted $1000 to replace it.while looking online, i found endless complaints on multiple web boards claiming the same problem.i have found a company "circuit solutions" that can fix the problem, a bad switch that they call an inadequate switch for $100.they say on thier site that the switch is too small for the powerful abs motor.the new switch they install is supposedly 30% higher rated than the one used.
Just before i reached 36000 miles with my 2001 tahoe, the antilock brakes started to constantly engage.the service dept. Changed the sensor on one side and the problem went away for a little while.it happened again and the service dept. Cleaned the sensors, said there was corrosion or debris on them.i left the garage and it was ok but started again a couple of weeks later.i took the truck to the service dept again and they test drove it for 32 miles, but nothing happened.after about 100 or so incidents, i called the garage again and told them i almost had 2 accidents because the antilock brakes kept engaging on their own.i just took it in again, and they said that gm's technical department said the only thing they could do was replace the brake hub on one side and clean the sensor again, at a cost of gm's deductible amount of $100.00.they said nothing else could be done unless gm issues a recall on the truck. I told them this is unacceptable and what would i do if they fail again and i get in an accident?they said i would have to take this up with gm.this is a very dangerous situation and i don't feel safe in my vehicle.
My abs light came on and the abs motor started to run.i turned the car off, but the abs motor continued to run.i had to go under the hood and pull the fuse to prevent the motor from burining out and to prevent the battery from draining.the dealer wants $1000 to replave the ebcm, but some compaines on the internet who were formed solely to fix this problem will do it for cheaper.there are many many people on the intenet sites who have this problem for all types of chevy trucks from 1999-2003.
Abs computer module causes the pump to continuously run the abs light to turn on. It seams that many 2001 tahoes have the same problem, as per the parts department attendant at my local chevy dealer. After discovering that the part was about $800.00 at the dealer, i contacted many salvage yards and they all had meany tahoes, but they said that the abs module was one of the first parts to sale. I did some research online, and found that meany people were in the same situation. I belive that there shude be a recall to correct this problem.
Abs motorfailed on my vehicle. Replacement motor was estimated to cost roughly $1,000. I have heard this was common with chevrile, tahoe vehicles.
I've had two anti-lock brake modules replaced, 1 at 40k miles & again at 130k miles. They went bad for no apparent reason. The cost on the first one was $900, andthe last was over $1400. I saved the last one.
Abs pump motor is staying on continuously after the vehicle is turned off.after researching online, found that an internal relay in the electronic brake control module is shorting and causing the abs pump motor to continue to run while operated and even after vehicle and ignition is turned off.without disconnecting plug to motor or abs fuse, either failure of abs pump motor will occur, failure of ebcm will occur and even possible fire hazards due to overheating abs pump motor.since i was able to read online that many others are having the same problem, it seems that there should be a recall to fix the problem and prevent future failures of abs equipment, possible car fires due to continuous abs pump motor activation even with vehicle turned off, resulting in possible injuries and even death to the public.
When the brakes were being applied, the pedal would travel further than normal. Mralthough the problem could not be duplicated, the dealer stated that if the abs light did not not illuminate, then there was not a problem.*jg
Vehicle has been serviced 4 times for malfunction of the brakes. Manufacturer notified but not willing to do anything.consumer feels vehicle is unsafe.
The right rear brake line cracked and failed, causing brake failure 3 times in 18 months.the first time it was repaired at the dealer.the second time it was replaced at the dealer.the third and most recent, it was repaired at a truckstop in the new mexico desert.
Was driving a rural two lane road when the car in front of me slowed to turn left. I tried to brake and the brake pedal wet to the floor, no brakes at all. I veered of f to the shoulder and was able to avoid collision and slow the car using the parking brake. I called my husband and he had me check my brake fluid which was almost empty. He brought some,we refilled and saw a large puddle start to form under car near the driver side door. Upon getting the vehicle home ,we found a two foot section of hard line so corroded it was leaking in three places . To find the leak it was necessary to remove the gasoline tank to see it . And replace that section of line . We are in the process of replacing all the lines a there are many sections that are corroded (rusted ) very badly . I see no other way to feed secure in this vehicle and dealer cost are said to be $1200 to $1500 . The area around the brake line was clean and we saw no cause for this corrosion.
Consumer stated thatbrake system has failed 3 times within 1 year.
I own a 2001 chevy tahoe that has the brake / abs lights coming on while driving.after learning about earlier recall i took my vehicle into a dealership and told them about the problem.the lights did not come on for awhile but started to light up again.i feel the dealership did a 'quick-fix'.i would like to know why i was not contacted about this recall when i have brought my vehicle in before with a previous recall.
The rear steel hydraulic brake line rusted through and rendered the brakes inoperable. The brake warning light did not come on immediately after the failure.all hydraulic fluid was lost to the rear brakes.
05v379000 service brakes, hydraulic: antilock.recall date 8/29/05my 2001 chevy tahoe is activating my antilock brakes while trying to stop.i have come close to several accidents. I bought it used in february of 2006.i called gm and they will not honor their recall and fix my tahoe. I do not feel safe driving it and i have a small child. I want to know what i can do to have my tahoe fixed. I do not have the money to pay for it to be fixed. Gm should honor their recalls and fix this problem.what can i do?
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated was driving 25 mph when the brakes were applied, but the vehicle would not stop.the contact had to pump the brakes for the vehicle to come to a complete stop as the brake warning light illuminated on the instrument panel.a local mechanic inspected the vehicle and found that the front brakes were rusted and leaking brake fluid. The same brake failure was repaired for the rear brakes prior to the failure.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was made aware of the failure.the failure mileage was 145,000 and the current mileage was 153,000.
When traveling at low speeds, the braking system has failed.it usually occurs within the first couple of minutes of driving.it has probably happened 6 or 7 times over the course of owning the vehicle (3 years).no lights are on.when you press the brake, it goes further than normal, and then it finally works after taking several extra feet to stop.it happens irregularly, so we can't duplicate it for service.*la
Steering becomes difficult when turning into a parking place or turning left at slow speeds. There is a recall for this same issue for my make of vehicle (tahoe) but not for the year (2001).it is id 04v045000.no repairs have been done.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the assist brake system failed in 2005. In addition, the abs module was replaced and the failure continued. The contact notified the manufacturer to file a complaint. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 78,818 and the current mileage was 130,000.updated 03/24/11*lj updated 1/4/11
While driving 40 mph driver hit the brakes suddenly and vehicle hit the curb and rolled twice. Upon impact, airbags did not deploy.people were ejected from the vehicle. As a result, they died.
2001 chevy tahoe brake failure.very sudden.this is a major safety issue that could have been catastrophic.there is corrosion on the brake lines and is reportedly occurring on other chevy makes from 1999-2003.we need to replace all of the brake lines per dealership.
My brakes suddenly failed as i was approaching a red traffic light.when i pushed on the brake pedal it went all the way to the floor and produced no deceleration of the vehicle.i was able to narrowly avoid an accident, but the situation could have been deadly if traffic had been different.the cause of the failure was diagnosed as a rusted brake line.i found a report of an ongoing investigation of rusted brake lines that covers my vehicle make/model/year, and i want to add my event to your database.
While driving at speeds above 50 mph the front end and the steering wheel will shake violently.at the same time the brake pedal pulsates and is very firm.vehicle has to be brought to a complete stop to return it to help eliminate the shaking.dealership has been notified but feels this condition is not a problem.*nlm
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe.while driving 15 mph or attempting to come to a stop, the abs engage automatically and cause difficulty stopping.the contact must apply a significant amount of pressure on the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle.the failure has been occurring for almost two years, but has recently become progressively worse.the vehicle has not yet been taken to the dealer.the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000, nhtsa action number pe05020 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock), although the failures were identical.the contact believes that the recall should apply to his vehicle.the failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 127,000.
On approx. September 8th, 2011. My anti lock brake system on my tahoe started to engage at low speeds, even though it was dry pavement. When you pull up to a stop light or into a parking space, at low speed, the abs system kicks in and does not allow you to stop properly. Almost causing an accident. I took the vehicle to my regular mechanic and he informed me that there was a safety recall on this vehicle for this problem. I called chevrolet inil and spoke toservice advisor. He asked me the vin number of the vehicle and then looked it up and told me that this was done in 2005, but there is a lifetime warranty due to the safety recall and it being the same problem.i set up an appointment for september 15th, 2011 at 10:00am. I took my vehicle in to them and again was told that it was covered under the safety recall and has a lifetime warranty. After a few hours, they called me back and now told me it was not covered and that i now owed them an inspection fee on my vehicle.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated while driving 10 mph, she applied the brakes and the pedal depressed to the floor. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle. The contact noticed that the brake lines were fractured and leaking brake fluid upon exiting the vehicle. The vehicle was safely driven home and parked. The vehicle was then taken to an independent repair shop, but repairs were not performed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 126,000.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe.while the vehicle was parked in the garage for two days, it caught fire.the contact extinguished the flames.a mechanic inspected the vehicle and stated that the fire was caused by the brake relay system.the current and failure mileages were 62,000.
Brake line ruptured and the fluid leaked out resulting in damage to vehicle.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph and approaching a traffic stop signal when the brake pedal was depressed with a delayed response in the activation of the anti-lock brake system. In addition, the parking brake and abs warning indicators illuminated whenever the engine was in operation and remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. There was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock). The recall was offered in the salt belt states which excluded the vehicle from being eligible for the recall repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.updated 09/28/2011 *ln
I experienced brake line failure on my 2001 tahoe due to rust. I was hauling a trailer last week in southern utah and traveled over some high passes. In escalente, i put my foot on the brake and it went all the way to the floor. Scary to think what might have happened an hour earlier when i was driving in the mountains. The brake line running over the gas tank had completely rusted through.all the brake and fuel lines were severely rusted.fortunately, the only shop in town was able to make up a replacement line and that got me home. I'm in the process now of replacing all the brake and fuel lines.this is not due to neglect.i wash and clean the undercarriage often during the winter to remove salt and sand.i first noticed rust within a year of purchasing the car in december 2000.about 5 years ago, i had my mechanic install a "counteract gsl-2-lc corrosion control system".the rust continued to worsenthis failure could have been catastrophic!i'm getting my lines replaced but what about all the other tahoes experiencing the same problem?
Driving at under 10mph going to brake, anti-lock brakes kick in when unnecessary which caused me to be unable to brake properly and crash into the vehicle in front of me.
*sc
While driving on an interstatefrom new jersey, the abs light activated on my vehicle. I was informed by a mechanic to pull the fuse to prevent the abspump from being ruined.upon doing so, the brake failure light activated. My concern was that if an additional problem arouse we would not have any warning.researching i found gm has a recall for this problem in approximately twenty states, but not in sc.i feel this is an across the board safety problem that should warrant a recall of all vehicles on the recall.this repair is very expensive, and gm should be responsible for the repair regardless of the location of the vehicle.this is a very important safety recall that research shows these faulty abs systems are all over the country, not just in salt belt states.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that he got his vehicle repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The contact stated that at low speeds the abs activated, which made the stopping distance for the vehicle much longer. The vehicle was repaired in 2006 and identical failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 125,000 and the current mileage was 130,000. The vin was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated when the brakes were applied the antilock system activated and the vehicle would not come to a complete stop. Previously the vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired under nhtsa recall campaign id number: 05v379000, service brakes, hydraulic: antilock; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 100,126.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. The condition was likely to occur in environmentally corrosive areas. The vehicle was repaired under recall number05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). Six years after the repair the vehicle experienced unwanted antilock brake activation.the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer who stated that the abs sensor needed to be replaced.since the vehicle was repaired under the recall the manufacturer was not willing to repair the vehicle under the recall again.the contact stated that the remedy repair did not fix the failure and the manufacturer should extend the recall.the failure mileage was 108,000.
On november 23, 2010 we were traveling on i-95 just outside of washington dc when we were in some heavy traffic.we needed to stop quickly & the brake pedal on our 2001 chevy tahoe lt went to the floor.we were able to stop but when we were able to get off to get gas & check on the brakes we noticed brake fluid leaking from the rear of the tahoe. Was able to get to a brake shop when we found out the brake lines were corroded. The shop figured something must have hit the brake line while we were driving & since they were rusting it ruptured the line.we ended up having to spend the night in fredricksburg, va & paying $1,500 to just get the rear lines fixed so we could continue our trip to myrtle beach. We still need to get the front lines changed but we don't have the money to get them fixed at this time. So the tahoe sits in our driveway until we can afford to get it fixed.
Our 2001 tahoe had brake failure due to a corroded brake line. We were told all five were corroded and needed to be replaced. We have lived in both ny and nj and are the only owners of the truck. We found out that gmc 1999-2003 trucks are in your engineering investigation for brake line failure due to corroded brake lines in the salt belt states which we live in. I wanted to add this complaint with the hopes that others will as well and if a recall is issued we can get compensated for the very hefty repair bill.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated the brakes seemed to fail whenever they tried to stop the vehicle on a bumpy surface. The contact stated the anti-lock braking system failed when the road was not even. Recall campaign id number: 05v379000 (services brakes: hydraulic anti-lock) repair was performed in 2005, but the failure recurred. The contact did not have the vehicle inspected, but stated the stopping distance and lack of brake response was the same as it was when the original recall was performed. The failure mileage was 156,000 and the current mileage was 157,000.updated 05/31/12*lj
Brakes failed when trying to slow down. Consumer was traveling at 30-35 mph.when at firstconsumer tapped the brakes, and then when trying to slow down, vehicle would not stop.consumer rear ended another vehicle. Contacted dealer, anddealer was not willing to do anything.
Dt: 2001, chevrolet tahoe. Having severe anti-lock brake problemsat low speed,3-5 mph. This happens on dry pavement. When coming to a stop the pedal starts to pulsate violently and the vehicle will not stop.this occurs when it is in two wheel drive. The tahoe is a 4-wheelanti lock. The truck was taken to the dealer.however, they refused to fix the problem.dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the abs system.second dealer which was aware of the problem replaced the front wheel rotation sensors. There have not been any further problems.*sb
2001 chevrolet tahoe abs module failed at 40000 miles.replaced the part, then it failed again at 80000 miles. Two failures of the exact same safety related component in 80000 miles seems excessive.
While traveling in inclement weather tire has no traction. Vehicle will slide while applying brakes. Goodyear, wrangler ,t30/5135-955. Dealership is aware ofproblem.. Consumer states the tires are not adequate for vehicle or braking system is not working properly, which cause the abs to engage frequently.*jg
Bought a used 2001 tahoe a year ago. Recently, the abs and brake light would come on and stay on. After reading all the complaints concerning the matter, the dealer diagnosed it as ebcm failure. Repairs would be $1200+. It's an obvious defect with this model and a recall needs to be done and repairs made for free.
While traveling to nj we found the abs pump would not shut off.this occurred on 06-07-06. We contacted a mechanic who advised us to pull the fuse for the abs brakes.i have found that this is a common problem with several gm vehicles. I have a 2001 chevy tahoe. The control module is bad and will cost over $800. Both the abs and brake warning lights now stay on. If there is a further problem with my brakes i have no way to be warned.kelsy hayes is the manufacturer and should be made to correct the problem.
Anti lock brakes activated during normal stopping conditions. Truck does not stop as quickly since brakes are not applied as normally they would be. Dry conditions, normal road conditions. Leads to longer distances to stop since anti-lock is being applied when it is not necessary and should not be. Can seem like truck is not going to stop since the stopping distance is longer than what the driver is accustomed to.
Unwanted anti-lock brake system activation on a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. In reviewing the details on an existing recall (gm recall no. 05068) my tahoe is exhibiting the characteristics described, where upon deceleration at low speed brake applications intermittently activates the anti-lock brake system. Unfortunately, i have been advised by a local dealer as well as chevrolet via their recall hotline that the recall is not applicable in my state. I believe this omission of de from the recall when several adjacent states are included is arbitrary and does not adequately resolve this potential safety issue for all of those impacted, including myself. According to the existing recall, the condition is more likely to occur in environmentally corrosive areas and has resulted in the recall being launched in the "salt belt" states which for some reason does not include de. I can say with the utmost certainty that de does receive snow, and that the dept of transportation uses salt during snow fighting operations every winter, potentially contributing to the problem experienced with my tahoe. Furthermore, the previous owner of the vehicle resided in pa, which is included in the list of recall states. To date, no repairs have been made as i don't feel the repairs should be made out-of-pocket.
Dt*: the contact stated the abs activated at 10 mph.a nhtsa recall, #05v379000 was performed on the vehicle in august 2004 concerning the service brakes, hydraulic: antilock, however the recall did not remedy the problem.the dealership would not offer a second repair under the recall.updated 10/17/2006 -
In cold weather when applying brakes vehicle swerved left into other lane out of control without warning. *jg
I currently own a 2001 chevy tahoe lt 4x4 and just had my brakes fixed because of a problem with the design related to the anti-lock sensors.for the past few months i've been having problem when coming to a slow stop the anti locking brakes activate, then having to use the emergency brake to get the suv to stop. When i had the system reviewed, there were no indications in the various onboard computers that there were any abs errors, so it was suggested that the brakes will need to be done.i spent over $1000.00 replacing brake parts and the problem still continued.the next review of the problem, the warranty company suggested that it could be the wheel bearings, but to first try and clean the sensors first.since the wheel bearings are over $350.00 each, we had the sensors cleaned.my local mechanic cleaned the sensors and at this point i've not had any more problems.but they told me i will again because of the design of the vehicle.the repair shop that fixed my car is located in so. Burlington, vermont "autoworks".
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that his vehicle was involved in recall 05v379000, antilock brakes.the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred after 5 years. The current mileage was 107,000. The failure mileage was 90,000.
Vehicle jerked forward when brake were applied at low city speedbut would not stop vehicle. Vehicle has been serviced several times. *sb
I own a 2001 chev tahoe, when braking at low speeds the car will not stop. On several occasions we have nearly hit other cars especially when pulling into parking spots. Once pulled into driveway at home and hit wife's car. Not much damage was done but one of these times i felt like something was going to happen. I took it to a shop the said it was a faulty right front wheel sensor. Replaced bearing/hub assembly with labor $429.00 . Now three months later itis doing it again although not near as often. Thinking its the other side??? don't feel safe driving vehicle. Please help.
The anti-lock brakes activate when they are not supposed to.2001 chevrolet tahoe / 4 wheel drive.they activate on moderate braking on dry pavement.this increases stopping distance.i had a minor accident as a result of this problem.incident date is an estimate.i noticed that gm has a recall for this problem - but it does not cover my vehicle since it was not registered in a state that salts their roads.my vehicle was bought and operated in maine (recall state), but i had it registered in south dakota - i am active duty navy.
Dt: the contact received a recallconcerning the brakes.she took the vehicle to a dealer for e recall repair, and the recall service was performed accordingly.after completion of the recall repairs she discovered that when applying brakes at speeds of 3 mph or less the abs will activate followed by a loud noise.the vehicle stops but at extendedstopping distance.she contacted the dealership, but they could not offer any explanation.the regional office was contacted regarding this situation and she was waiting for a response.no further repairs or corrections have been made..the contact stated the problem has been taken care off.
Low speed anti locking brakes activate and vehicle doesn't stop.a recall has been issued to correct problem, but i've already had that done once, and am having the problem again!!!!i don't believe the recall fix issued by gm will correct the problem,, just prolong it, causing additional accidents.
Saw your recent article re defective anti-lock brakes. I have had, on numerous occassions, incidents where the anti-lock brakes failed and caused my vehicle to roll much further than normal. These incidents seem to happen if i am applying brakes and either hit a pothole or bump in the roadway while braking.
Whenever brakesare applied in a panic/sudden stop during highway speed of 50 or more it causesextnded stopping distance. Dealer notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
Dt*:the contact stated the service abs light illuminated indicating the antilock brakes were engaged.this happens at all speeds.the manufacturer was alerted.there is a nhtsa recall # 05v379000 concerning the antilock brakes for which the vehicles vin is not included. Updated 5/16/2006 -

My chevy 2001 tahoes suffered an abs malfunction at low speeds in the summer of 2004.it was repaired at a dealer.in august of 2005 i heard of the recall of 2001 tahoes in 14 northern states for the exact problem my tahoe was in the shop for, the remedy for the recall is exactly what the dealer performed on my car in july 2004.my tahoe will be going back to the dealer 11-25-05 for the same problem again, gm has told me there is nothing they can do since i am not in one of the recall states.gm has acknowledged that this malfunction can cause accidents since it increases braking distances.i have already spent 300 dollars on the first repair and am looking at spending the same amount again.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe.the antilock brakes would engage during deceleration and while driving on dry pavement.occasionally, the vehicle would not stop at the appropriate times when driving between 1-15 mph.the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer.nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) was referenced.the failure mileage was less than 115,000.
Customer reports emergency braking system failures detected at 11,000 miles, with complete in-operability by 19,000 miles.dealer/manufacturer only warranties this safety device to 7,500 miles, while "vehicle warranty" states 36,000 miles.
1)2001 chevy tahoe - antilock brakes engage any time brakes are applied at low vehicle speed (under about 5 mph).multiple events in stop-and-go traffic lead to loss in brake pressure.2)typical consequence is annoyance and increased stopping distance at low speeds, worst event was loss of brake pressure during stop-and-go traffic leading to "bump" of vehicle ahead, no damage, no injuries.system requires manual pumping of brake pedal to restore pressure after 2 or 3 braking events in a short time span (2-5 minutes).3)problem still exists, as gm has no recall for this problem in us, only canada.
Dt: the contact states therenhtsa recall campaign 05v379000 concerning antilock brakes.this vehicle has the sameproblemsas indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to vin. The vehicle has not been repaired.updated 1/4/2006-
Anti lock brakes did not hold at low speed. Vehicle crashed into a truck.
My vehicle exhibits the same problem as nhtsa recall #05v379000 .i purchased the vehicle new in portland maine and operated it there for 1 year.i am active duty navy and hence was not a residence of maine.i did not title the vehicle in maine.gm will not honor the recall since the vehicle was never titled in one of the target states.
During the past 2 weeks, my abs has activated when stopping at speeds under 10 miles per hour.this has happened approx 6 times, and is intermittent.

At low speeds, anti- lock brakes activate. This causes brake failure and increased stopping distances. Because of many near accidents, we have since pulled out the anti- lock brake fuse. This way the brakes will at least stop the vehicle.
Intermittentlywhen applying brakes pedal wouldgo tofloor and commenced to make a popping sound .vehicle was taken to dealer shop, and informed that they could not duplicateproblem.feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
Abs brakes activate at low speeds causing increased stopping distances.also humming nosie from abs system.
Vehicle would not stop when brake pedal was applied.pedal pulsated but did not vehicle resulting in accident. Happened on more than one occasion but the last time hit another vehicle. Will sell vehicle if problem not corrected. Dealer says no codes present, could not duplicate problem and never had similar complaint.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the abs system would independently engage when driving at low speeds, increasing brake stopping distance. The contact stated that the failure was sporadic over a period of six months. The manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was not under recall and did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was approximately 85,000.updated 1/19/2010the consumer stated he purchased a complete bearing assembly which came with a wheel speed sensor. He also had to purchase an axle socket to get the hub off. The consumer made the repair himself and the problem has not returned. Updated 03/31/11
The abs brakes do not stop the vehicle.once the vehicle was taken to the dealer, the sensor, the rotors, and bearings had to be replaced. The dealer found a technical service bulletin regarding the problem.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. Nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000, service brakes, hydraulic:antilock repair was performed on the vehicle; however, the contact's failure is directly related. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 55000. Updated 9/23/09 the consumer stated when coming to a stop, the abs activates and it makes the brake pedal push back toward the him causing greater stopping distance.the abs light does not illuminate when it happens. The consumer received a recall and the problem was repaired on oct 25, 2005, however the problem has returned. Updated 09/28/09.
Gm recall for hub bearing areas and abs activation. I went to the chevy dealer in florida bob taylor and service advised us the repairs were not necessary in florida. They did not inquirewhere the vehicle was located etc. We had to insist the recall repair be done. They did not even want to inspect. With our insistence it was done. How many vehicles have been turned away without inspection by this dealer. It is not up to the driver to decide on a recalls necessity. We complied but with dealer indifference. I am concerned about other individuals who would not have the legal background to insist. They will be told they did not comply when they did. No record would be kept of the dealer discouraging the service and the defense if this is linked to an accident is that they did not get the repair/inspection. This may not be the spot to notice but i am concerned to have this occur.
Front wheel speed sensors fail and so do the brakes...very hard to stop the vehicle.two feet on the brake pedal and push like hell.
I brought my truck to hawthorne chevy for an unrelated repair. They asked me if i wanted them to do the abs recall while it was there at no charge. I agreed. The brakes were working fine when it went in, but when i got it back the abs kicks in every time i brake. Then they told me that i needed new hubs because the procedure ruined them and it will cost $700.00! this repair is not covered, they say, under the recall. I told them that i am unprepared for such an emergency repair so they showed me the fuse to pull so the abs would stop. Now it does not function and i am unprotected by this feature. Nice goin' guys! once again you only went half way and fumbled the ball! i'm so glad that a gov't. Agency is looking out for my safety. Nice fix. Now it doesn't work at all. I will tell anyone who has a truck like mine not to have the recall done.
We reported to the dealership 5 times that something was wrong with this vehicle. We took it to an independent auto mechanic who discovered thatabs sytem was failing. We attended an arbitration where our 2001 tahoe was ruled defective by theharbitrator and chevrolet was ordered to repurchase it. The repurchase date was nov. 8. On nov 5, the abs lost control and my husband rolled down a 200 ft cliff. We are currently seeking any help we can get.
Experienced unwanted anti-lock brake system (abs) activation twice with 2001 chevrolet tahoe owned in alabama.activations occurred in 2004 and 2007.crash can occur due to increased stopping distances during low speed brake applications.abs module replaced twice by certified auto mechanics.
When thebrakeswere applied they would make a noise. When applying the emergency brake on an incline it did not hold.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that at a slow speed while attempting to stop the vehicle the abs engaged extreme pressure was applied to the brakes, extending the stopping distance.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the were familiar with the failure.nhtsa recall campaign id number: 05v379000, service brakes hydraulic, antilock was related to the failure; yet, gm informed him his vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired.the current and failure mileages were approximately 103,000.
Abs brakes engage at any speed under 10 mph.i am aware of the canadian recall on this model for the same problem and don't think that i should be responsible for paying to fix a manufacturer defect myself.i have pulled the abs fuse and completely disabled abs braking.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the abs failed.whenever he approaches a slow stop at 5 mph, the abs makes it difficult to stop the vehicle.the dealer stated that the braking system was disabled.the contact had to pay for the repair.he called the manufacturer, but they would not assist.the failure mileage was 111,000.updated 8/24/09 updated 08/26/09.
2001 chevy tahoe lt 4wd, 5.3labs brakes activate without warning (intermittently) and when they should not be activating, under 10 mph when coming to stop, increasing stopping distance.abs light works but does not come on.96000 miles on vehicle.no corrective action has been taken at this time, as i have been researching possible causes of this problem.i have just learned that gm has issued a recall for this problem in canada.
Dealer is unable to fix and we are scared to drive the car. The car startsshaking and feels like it is goingto flip.the car goes from 70 to 50 instantly and the brakes get extremely hot.
I own a 2001 tahoe, purchased from ed bozarth chevrolet in grand junction, colorado. During late july or early august, i heard a tv news story saying that tahoes including my year and type had been recalled due to a corrosion problem affecting the anti- lock braking of the vehicle. At that time i called the dealership and was told that there was no recall he/they knew of and therefore no problem. On october 4, 2005, i pulled up your website and found a service bulletin advisory # 05068 regarding the above situation. I then clicked on the get summary button and saw that there was a recall on this situation. I called the dealership again and was again advised that there was no recall on my truck by the service manager. He also stated that they would find out right after a media announcement which is inconsistent with the first conversation i had with him (at that time he indicated that the media always"jumped the gun). So the question is, is there a recall or not and how do i get my truck fixed if necessary?
Abs sensor is not working properly.abs "dummy" lights goes off and on intermittently.
Abs activates when coming to complete stop on smooth, dry road surfaces. Occurs at speeds from approx 10 mph to 0 and with increasing frequency, now perhaps 15% of stops. Results in slightly increased stopping distances.
Dt: contact stated that abs light andbrake lightcameon. He noticed that other vehicleshad this problem. Dealership disconnected the abs. Also, whenturning the steering wheel all the way to the left or to the rightconsumer will hear a clicking noise usually while reversing.
Dt: theconsumer complained about abs brake problem. At low speeds when trying to stop the brakes stuck as if activated. This resulted inextendedstopping distance. Consumer called dealer, and dealer indicated that wheel speed sensors werecorroded due to road salt. Consumer has not contacted chevrolet/gm.dealer would not perform repairs because there was no recall.
While drivingwould step onbrakes and seat belt will not holdbody like others vehicles that seat belt will hold.
Anti-lock braking ebcm failure, this module was replaced in may of 06 and has now failed again in september 06. One day the anti-lock warning light comes on along with the traction lock light. The cost to replace is in excess of $1000.
The abs is malfunctioning on my 2001 chevrolet tahoe. During an internet search i discovered that the problem matches that found in campaign #05v379000, however, my vehicle's vin was not included in that recall. I believe that my vehicle, and possibly many others, should have been included.
While driving a whizzing sound came from the abs brakes. Somehow, the computer for the abs brakes caused a lock up. The cost of repairs was quoted to the consumer as $1,100. Tookvehicle to dealer, who indicatedthat abs brakesneeded to be replaced.
Dt*: the contact stated the abs light illuminated causing the antilock brakes to malfunction.the service dealer stated the electronic braking control module needed to be replaced.the contact expressed concern that this was a defect.
2001 tahoe abs module went out after doing research realized there is hundreds of people with same problemafter paying 30,000 for a tahoe you shouldnt have this problem so soon and it be so expensive to fix.
2001 chevy tahoe.abs pump running all the time even if the ignition is tuned off.this has happened twice on the same vehicle.the first time it happened, we replaced the abs control module.it happened again today.unsafe driving and costly repair.
A problem with corrosion on the front wheel anti-lock sensors. Making you feel like the brakes are failing at slow speeds when stopping. My understanding is that this is already a "recall" issue in canada. My dealer in a small town noted he has fixed 8 of these already this month alone.
2001 chevrolet tahoe--abs light came on.when vehicle was turned off, noise heard below vehicle.service tech advised the abs sensor module had gone bad--@$1,000.00 repair.saw similar incidents on nhtsa website--thought it may help to include this incident.*la
The abs warning light flashes on and stays on while driving, when this occurs it drains the battery.this problem is caused by the abs control module shorting out.
Anti-lock braking system failure.pump on anti-lock braking system continues to run causing pump failure unless customer disconnect fuse at panel.upon disconnecting fuse the anti-lock braking system is useless as is the traction control feature.all lights, abs, traction assist, brake become illuminated on dash board.i feel this is a hazardous condition due to the driver not having the anti-lock brakes or traction assist.i've talked with numerous owners of the same type vehicle and they all have the same complaints.the only repair is to replace the electronic brake control module (ebcm) that is mounted to the top of the abs pump.gm is charging in the ballpark of $700-$900 for this part and they are aware of the problem.
Abs ebcm shorted causing abs failure, abs dummy light to come on, and abs pump to run incessantly.had to pull fuse on abs to prevent abs pump wear/failure, which caused brake dummy light to come on - could not tell at the time if this was due to removed fuse or actual brake problem.dealer cost to replace is $1100 although this is obviously a common problem with this unit (on many vehicles) - am having part repaired by 3rd party instead for $150 - hopefully will not cause other brake problems.
Abs sensor bad, causing improper braking, causing vehicle to not stop at slow speeds.happens almost every time brakes are applied at slow speeds.removing the abs fuse is the only way to stop the malfunction short of an overly expensive repair. Life safety issue without working brakes.
Abs module, transmission, parking brake, throttle body, windows, rear a/c, steering suspension. Since we purchased the vehicle we have had to spend over $4000.00 on repairs that should be recalled due to safety.
Abs light came on and motor would not stop running, even with engine turned off. Had to have ebcm for internal ground fault module replaced at charge of $1132.48. Tahoe only has 54,891 miles on it.
The vehicles abs module failed which caused the abs light and brake light to illuminate.*nlm
(abs)abs motor went bad two years .(why?) had it replacedthree years ago ,went bad againa year later. Been riding with a bad (abs)system for another year with the (abs)and traction light on because that should not happen that soon. I mad e quick stop and the (abs)motor started running and the (abs and tractioncame on. Replacement too soon.
When shutting the vehicle off t abs motor continued to run. As a result, abs sensor light stayed on.
Abs brake module. Low traction light comes on while driving, and drains the battery. Vehicle has been repaired twice . Cost covered the first time and gm paid half for last repair.
Dt*: the contact stated the abs light illuminated causing the antilock brakes to malfunction.the service dealer stated the electronic braking control module needed to be replaced.the contact expressed concern that this was a defect.
My 2001 chevrolet tahoe lt 4wd would have its abs brakes engage at speeds of 3 to 7 mph. Thi happened hundreds of times and cause it to become difficult to stop the vehicle at times. The problem was fixed by replacing the abs speed sensors. I am aware that gm has a recall for canadian trucks regarding this same problem, however i was required to pay for the repairs out of my own pocket.
Heard a noise coming from vehicle. Consumer called nearest certified dealer and was told that it was the abs module.
Abs system will not shut off, made noise while driving and would not shut off after ignition turned off. Abs system did shut off after pulling the 60amp breaker.
I have only had my 2001 tahoe for a month or less and one dy when starting my vehcile the abs light would not go out. When the car is off some type of motor is still running. The dealer said it was the bscm this controls the abs system. It will cost me $1000. To fix. I have read where other people are having the same problems with there brakes. I need help!
Low speed abs failure (brakes pulsate) when stoppingor turning between 3-10 mph.issue appears to be cooroded front wheel sensors.
While drivingbrake system failed. Had heavy vibration, and wouldbe hard to stop. Dealer has been notified.

2001, chev tahoe, 28000 mi brakes squeal.have taken the tahoe to the dealership 5 times since purchase. Finally took it to a trusted mechanic and he agrees that there is not a problem with the brakes mechanically except the loud squeal.i am told that i can replace them if i want to get rid of the squeal, but i don't think i should have to pay to replace the brakes since they sold the vehicle to me with a squeal.the vehicle was only 5 days old the first time i took it to the dealership.
Dt:parking brake was defective. Nothing happened before failure. Emergency brake did not hold. Upon inspection it was found to have a problem. Has to have brake pads replaced before it canbe inspected.
Brake pads wear unevenly. Inner pad wears well before outer pad wears. No wear sensor on inner pad. Only indication is metal to metal grinding, by that time the rotors are destroyed. 11-22-2006 had front pads replaced, found rotors damaged. 11-28-2007, rear rotor grinding, inner pad gone, outer pad intact. Heard of similar troubles on full size suv and pickups manufactured by gm 1994-2004.
Routine check on brakes for my 2001 chevy tahoe found at meineke car care center that my aluminum calipers on rear of brake system were locked in place wearing the rear brakes out. The front brakes were 40% used. Informed by lee, manager, this is a problem with this type caliper, uneven wear and locking up.jb
While driving at normal speed consumer applied the brakes, and there wereno brakes. An independent repair shop replacedall four rotors. Consumer paid $1,200.00 for repairs.

I have a 2001 chevrolet tahoe with an abs brake module failure.the motor/pump that controls the abs brakes won't turn off.it keeps running even when the ignition is turned off.my abs light turns on and abs brakes are now not operative.i read many complaints on this issue on 2001 model chevy/gmc full size suv/pickups.i think this is a safety concern that should be addressed immediately to prevent accidents and deaths due to abs brake failures.

The rear brakes had a tendency to wear out every 18000 miles.dealer examined the vehicle twice, and claimed that the rear brakes were wearing out normally. Consumer felt that the rear brakes were wearing out excessively.
2001 chevrolet tahoe has an inoperative emergency brake system. Problem is currently be investigated and repaired.
The truck failed state inspection because the parking brake wouldn't hold. The dealership indicated that this failure is due to premature wear of the brake shoes. This is also a common problem with the model vehicle. There's a tsb for this issue 020526002.please provide any additional information. .*nlm

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. While travelling at 2 mph and applying the brakes, the contact noticed that the brake pedal extended down to the floorboard. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership where the brake line was replaced due to corrosion. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000. The current mileage was approximately 110,000.
Brake lines (all) are rusting to the point of failure.must be replaced before someone dies. Gm should make good for repairs.
Both brake lines to the rear wheels have cracked, leaving me with no brakes after the fluid leaked out.pebbles continually get wedged between the rear calipers and wheel rims, causing wheel lockup, and scouring of the aluminum rims and rotors.the right rear top caliper bolt fell out, allowing the caliper to rotate forward and lock up the wheel.i was told that these vehicles were not designed to travel on a gravel lane, but where west of the mississippi are there not gravel lanes?this is a very widespread problem , and dealers in ranching country are getting a flood of complaints, and have even designed rock shields for the rear disc brakes.it is a very large safety problem, for if the brakes do not completely fail they are impaired due to scoured rotors, etched wheels, and deteriorated pads.
Brake failure.complete loss of brake function without warning.master cylinder replaced, but did not correct.had to replace 2 brake lines.both had rusted thourgh (beside the frame under the drivers seat).the 2 failed brake lines each had at least 10 rust blisters that could easily rupture.vehicle was not from the north east or near the ocean.
Steering shaft - clunking noise and can feel vibrations in the steering wheel. Have to keep paying for mechanics to pack with grease rather then fix the problem. Have been told that is will eventually go completely out and will have to be totally replaced. I have a 2001 tahoe and a 2003 gmc sierra. Problem on both vehicles. I feel this should be recalled and manufacturer should replace and fix the problem.
Loose steering and loose clunking coming from steering column.coming out of turn i hear a noise not normal after turning and the steering feels loose/floaty.i have had the noise for a couple of years but never thought anything of it.had the front end checked out and the steering looked at about a year ago and it all checked out ok.i still had the clunking and looseness.i recently had a steering fluid flush and check and all turned out well but the noise is still there.it feels as if the steering shaft is floating and snaps back into place after the turn.
Steering feels loose when turning and hitting slight bumps at normal speeds. Soft clunking sounds comes from steering column area under dashboard when turning steering wheel and moving.
While traveling on the highway there is a clunking noise coming from underneath the vehicle.also the pittman arms broke from underneath the vehicle without prior warning.the dealership is aware of the problem.ts
Abs module, transmission, parking brake, throttle body, windows, rear a/c, steering suspension. Since we purchased the vehicle we have had to spend over $4000.00 on repairs that should be recalled due to safety.
Total loss of steering in my 2001 tahoe. This was preceded by a clunking noise that could be heard under the hood and felt through the steering wheel. Fortunately, the loss of steering happened at a low speed and no accident resulted. In my owner's manual, it states that in the event of power assist loss on the steering, you can still drive the vehicle, it will just be more difficult to steer. This is not the case. The vehicle cannot be safely driven at any speed due to the amount of strength required to turn the wheel. This is a dangerous defect in the steering mechanism.

The steering wheel suddenly locked up while driving. This went unnoticed until the steering wheel was turned.this failure occurred at least twice daily. When this occurreddriver had difficulty steering the vehicle. The steering wheel has to be turnedwith force, in the opposite direction ,locked into unlock.
Clunking under hood that can be felt in steering wheel.the steering gear is defective and needs to be replaced.
2001 tahoe, excessive play in the steering. This has not caused an accident, yet. The steering was beginning to get noticably loose around 25,000 miles. We now have 50,000 mi on the vehicle and the play is getting worse. The wheels will catch in any imperfections in the road and jerk the vehicle that direction requiring the driver to oversteer to correct. We have had the vehicle into the chevrolet dealership 4 times in the past 2 years to try to correct the problem. They say there is nothing loose. I suspect that it is in the steering box itself and chevrolet is unwilling to admit this problem. This is a very dangerous problem and must be fixed. Any support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Steve acker
I have a recurring knocking in my chevy tahoe 2001 steering column that has to be serviced every 8-10 mos. I would like to know if this is something that has been investigated as a problem/concern of other consumers. The dealership states that the knocking is caused by some type of calcium build up around the steering column at a cost of $200-300 each time this problem is repaired.this has been occurring since i purchased the vehicle in 2001.i do not feel that this is something that i should be continually paying for annually. This is not a rare occurrence.is there something that can be done on gmac's end to repair this problem without any monetary loss of the consumer?
I have a 2001 chevy tahoe & a 2003 gmc sierra. Both vehicles make a clunking noise with lots and lots of vibration in the front end when turning corners or moving slowly over bumpy areas. I was told that the steering shafts are bad. The gmc has already had the steering shaft replaced and the problem is back. The tahoe i purchased used and the previous owner told me about the problem and said he has taken it in for service and they pack the steering shaft with grease. My father in law has a chevy truck and is having the same problem. I don't understand with such a huge problem on a variety of years that this is not recalled. If you can check into this problem and if there is any solution other than continually re-greasing the steering shaft which is a very expensive and time consuming job. Talking with others with the same problem, i have heard that the steering shaft will eventually wear out and i don't know if this could be dangerous as far as causing an accident if something happened while driving. I have two young children that i drive around constantly and i am somewhat worried about this problem.thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
While driving at low speed, intermittently the power steeringfailed.when this happened it was very difficult to steer the vehicle. The dealer had heard of a few instances, but the manufacturer had not.*sc

On many occasions while driving, the steering wheel has locked up, dealer has replaced the steering wheel rotation sensor on three occasions and the power steering pump assembly, consumer is concerned that problem is not resolved.
Consumer states that power steering failed while driving affecting control of vehicle.dealer diagnosed that power steering pump failed. Ts
While driving at 55 mph in heavy (bumper to bumper) traffic on a 4 lane highway, i had a gut feeling to get off that main road so, i took a right onto a small country road.not even a mile down the road there was a loud thump from the back of the tahoe - sounded as though the bumper fell off and hit the road.looked through my rearview mirror and saw something shoot straight back (would have been even with a car's windshield) and the thing curved up and went oven an embankment.husband got out while i looked under the back of tahoe - the spare tire had broken loose and it was the tire that went down the embankment.the bracket holding it had broken.had i stayed on the main highway, the tire would have shot through the car's windshield behind me and chances are 100% the person would have been decapitated.took the tahoe to the dealer first thing monday morning and they fixed it. Telling me they had never seen anything like this before.this tahoe had about 50,000 miles, never been off road, never towed, never abused, and never bottomed out.my tahoe is 2001 and just turned 122,000 miles - don't do a lot of driving and i keep it serviced.do take care of what i own.just in case you own a 2001 tahoe, may want to have the bracket checked.mine had just snapped - there was no rust - nothing that would cause this. Than goodness no one was hurt/killed.last year the tahoe had a bent rod, front end bracket/tie rod broken, transmission would not go out of 4wd, had it in the shop - all problems have come back- i spent over 4,000.00 and i'm not spending anymore - this tahoe just turned 122,000 miles.what the heck. I take good care of all my cars and this on just keeps having problems.(i'd have to find the list from the shop - but i have no more money to fix it or buy another - and i just love this thing :(
The consumer tried at least 10-12 car seats and none of them fit in the vehicle without a lot of play in them. The consumer went to thepolice dept and they could not get the seat to fit properly either.

The truck is a 2001, has been in the garage for over 90% of its life.i noticed 2 months a small patch of paint starting to bubble on the roof.this patch has now extended to approximately 2 sq ft in size.
Two rusted brake lines from the master cylinder to master distribution block under the truck caused the brake pedal to go to the floor at 50 mph and ran thru a 4 way stop intersection in a rural area, thank you jesus i'm alive, lot's of rust on the lower rockers etc. On both sides
My rear doors on my chevy tahoe 2001 are becoming impossible to open.
Involved in incident where 2001 chevrolet tahoe lost control at approximately 60 mph and flipped end-over-end multiple times totaling vehicle.both driver and single passenger injured requiring ambulance transport to er.airbags did not deploy.
2 door latches and rear door will not open as the door handle will not spring back in place after opening. Need to push in the handle on the outside after closing the door to be able to open the door again from the inside or the outside.
Both side-view mirror casings (not the glass) broke within a month of one another.must be a defect.it is dangerous since they can fall off at anytime and if that occurs i am unable to see my surroundings as needed to provide a safe driving environment for myself, my passengers, and other surrounding vehicles or pedestrians.the first mirror broke in september 2005 the second on october 5, 2005.
The liftgate glass hinge has separated from the molding causing the liftgate glass window to become unsafe since it is now held onto the car by only one rubber hinge bracket.the glass in the liftgate will not close and could becomeseparated from the car while the car is moving down the highway causing serious injury to cars following my car.the local dealer stated that he had seen the problem before but there is no recall and my only recourse was to purchase a new rear liftgate window at a cost of nearly $1000.i am now on record as having stated in writing that, in my opinion, this is a serious situation and this manufacture defect could cause the rear glass to become separated from the car at highway speeds and hit another vehicle on the highway. The odometer on my car reads 40,000 miles.
Bumpers on inside are not properly treated for rust and corrosion. Dealer andmanufacturer were notified. The manufacturer has made no effort to prevent rust nor to remedy the problem.consumer is concerned that if the bumper rusts through that it may cause injury to self and others.*jg
Passengers side door isn't closing correctly.doors will lock.butdoors aren't secure.dealership is aware ofproblem.
Doors are not equipped with door ajar warning chime. Dealer / manufacturernotified, and informedconsumer that those vehicles were not manufactured with that equipment.
Passenger's door wouldn't lock properly.
Rear window hinge is cracked, could notclose window so we to takethe piston off.even with that it was difficult to close.read other people have had the same problem and also mentioned the window falling off.truck is garage kept and not expose to too much weather.think this could be manufacture problem and not the consumers. Bought a used 2001 tahoe june 4, 2004.opened rear glass on hatch many times with no problems.in late july my husband opened and one of the hinges broke.the metal actually tore.to correct this problem the whole glass must be replaced, the hinge is part of the glass.i have since heard "through the grapevine"that this is a common problem with the chevy tahoe.when the service depart. At my local chevy dealer ordered the new glass, by computer, the part # changed many times, as if many changes had been made and eventually the part (glass) had to come directly from the glass manufacturer.obviously gm is aware of the problem.my concern is that had one of my children, or even myself with not as much strength as my husband opened the glass on the hatch,we would not have been able to catch and hold the end with the broken hinge resulting in the remaining hinge "tearing" and there could have been serious injury.my tahoe is not under warranty so i was responsible for the 700.00billthat i truly feel gm should be responsible for as this is a safety issue.
Consumer noticedrear hatch glass fell out. Dealer had been contacted.
Upon opening the liftgate glass on my 2001 chevrolet tahoe the passenger side body-to-glass hinge separated from the glass. The glass will latch but does not make a weatherproof seal and can not be opened.
Back glass lift gate hing came unglued/unattached and when we opened the window, it sprung way out of wack and wouldn't close properly.chevrolet dealer that fixed it, said they have seen many of these hinges fail.
Liftate glass separates from hinges.local dealer and local glass shops say this is common problem. Chevrolet denies ever hearing of this trouble. If this had happened at highway speeds the back window would have shattered and who knows what the end result could have been.
The headliner on my 2001 chevrolet tahoe lt has been losing the retainer plugs since i took delivery on the truck in 2001. I have had the dealer replace the headliner because they "claimed" it was the wrong one for the truck. Since it was replaced and plugs replaced numerous times, they decided that it wasn't critical enough to warrant new design or repair. My headliner has dropped down and remains so today. Their fix is to wrap felt around the plugs and "ram them back in" as the service writer explained to me. This is unexceptable to me and i have tried to get them to fix it another way to no avail.
Rear tailgate glass hinge separated from plastic material in which it was embedded.failure results in improper securing of rear tailgate window, can lead to glass separating from vehicle at speed.glass was replaced.*la
I recently traded my ford expedition for chevrolet tahoe. Upon opening rear taiilgate one night noticed that the hinges that hold glass to tailgate had separated from vehicle. This seems to be a common issue with this model after reading other owners complaints.
I was stopped at a traffic light and when i accelerated the spare tire hoist cable broke due to fraying causing the spare tire to fall from underneath the truck. The driver behind me ran over the spare. Fortunately, i had just began to pull off so speed was not a factor and there was no damage to the other vehicle or person.*ln
When engine is started there is a ditinctive sound that lets you know that you are in a truck, however after driving and then stopping at a red light or stop sign while in drive thae vehicle has a vibration that can be feltfrom any seated position in the vehicle. This vibration was not present at the time of purchse nor during the test drive. We purchased vehicle on 10/30/00 and the vibration did not start until approximately the middle of august 2001. It has been brought in to the dealer twice for this problem and the first time they said they could not duplicate consumers concern at this time, the second time the shop forman test drove with us and saidthere was a new bulletin just released on this problem, and he was not aware that the vehicle was in the first time for this problem, however it was called unnecessary idle.he said he had to put it on the computer to reset it,after 2hours of waiting the service advisor came to us and said they were renting a car for us because it was taking so long.there was a problem with the shop forman taking our vehicle to lunch with his father not a rainbow employee and another technicianwe did not leave vehicle for rainbow to fix after it was brought back from lunch, we left came home made complaint to chevy customer care, was helped by another very rude customer manager names marla. We then took the vehicle to sewell cadillac-chevrolet 701 barone st. New orleans, la. 70113 (504) 581-7585 they could not have been any nicer or more professional however they too could not duplicate concern ,brought it back a second time to sewell after speaking to customer care center again this time they brought out another tahoe with 6500 miles on it and it had the same vibrationthe service advisor told me he spoke with the engineers and they said they were aware of this problem but had very few complaints on it so therefore they intended to do nothing.sulphur smell is strongsince purchsed,at full & 1/4 & lower tanks of gas.
Abs module, transmission, parking brake, throttle body, windows, rear a/c, steering suspension. Since we purchased the vehicle we have had to spend over $4000.00 on repairs that should be recalled due to safety.
*sc
In wet road conditions and when making slight turnsvehicle fishtails. Dealer recommended putting vehicle in 4-wheel drive when this happens.
While driving andturning right or left between 0 to 10 mph steering wheel feltloose, and made aloud noise.dealer inspectedvehicle several times, butcould not duplicate or correct the problem.
Was driving taking kids to school in a residential neighbor hood . When i made a turn onto a street the truck dropped to right side and the tire and axle rolled into another car. Turning 5 mile hr
When turning onengine there was a loud screaming noise infront end. Took vehicle to dealer, anddealerstated there was no solution.
While driving between 60-65 a vibration in the front started to occur.the vibration would be so bad that i could bearly hold on to the steering wheel.it would then fade in 5 miles or so.i had it back to the dealer twice and they could not find the cause.i recently discovered that when the vibration started to occur i could use my left foot and lift up on the brake pedal and the vibration would immediatley stop.i have not had the chance to tell the dealer this new information.
While travelingbetween 55mph and 65mphsteering column vibrated.dealershipwas aware ofproblem.
While traveling at 45 mph and without any indication right front control arm had broke off tire as a result of an accident.consumer added that the power steering went out without any indication while driving at 45 mph causing a right front crash with one vehicle from behind and side swipping three other vehicles before stopping. Manufactuer was contacted.
The bearing and the hub assembly have malfunctioned. As a result the brakes failed. The cause has yet to be determined. Please provide additional information.bearing and hub assembly, front wheel both replaced.
While driving 30 mph, the abs light came on.the vehicle was taken to the dealer.the dealer informed the consumer that the problem was the right front wheel bearing need to be replaced.

Chevrolet dealer will replace all 4 tires with goodyear tires.tire was a firestone wilderness le.
Right front tire blew out.dealership claims a nail caused the entire sidewall to blow out.we strongly disagree with them.the tire wasn't leaking air, wasn't underinflated, there were no steering problems, and the tire didn't show any sign of wear. The entire sidewall blew out and cause damage to the tire and rim.for our safety we have removed these firestone tires from our vehicle, and they are here at our home for inspection.we believe there is a problem with this make of tire.

After purchasing vehicle, found that tires were of all of different sizes. Vehicle has four goodyear 17 inch tires installed, the spare tire which is a firestone has a 16 inch wheel, owners manual states that driving with different size tires is dangerous, therefore, owner feels manufacturer should be held responsible for installing tires that are all the same size.
Spare tire missing.i believe the cable snapped and the spare tire fell off while vehicle was in motion creating a danger to other vehicles.i do not know if this caused a crash or injury to other drivers.i do not have a date of the incident.
While driving 65 mph the spare tire cable snapped which caused the spare tire to fall off from under the truck.
I was sitting at a drive up window at my bank when a man knocked on my window and asked if that was my tire on the ground. My spare tier had fallen off of the vehicle. I took my 2001 chevy tahoe to my repair man and he said that the cable rusted away that mounts the spare under the vehicle. I still have the rusted peice that attaches to the cable and it is all rust. The vehicle is only 7 years old and i have to wonder how many other suv or trucks that are aging are going to have this problem. I sent an e-mail to gmc two days ago but i have not heard from them. Please let me know what i can do to make people aware of this problem becasuse i can not stop thinking about what if i was on the highway and my tire killed someone and how many other vehicles on the roads are in this same condition. My taho is going in this week to have a new cable put on but there needs to be a different set up so that if the cable rots away or breaks these tires will not just fall off.
Tread separation. No punctures, no flats, no strikes to tire. About 30 miles north of brady tx. Temp about 80f, light rain. Road was hard packed gravel under contruction. Heard noise from rear of turck. Slowed down but continued droving. A minute later a loud noise and the right rear tire was flat. Did not swerve off road as our speed was only 30mph. Pulled off road onto soft ground. Changed to spare. Replaced tire at del rio tx goodyear store on 6 july 2001. No signs of a nail or other puncture. No holes in sidewall. Tread was completely separated from what looked like an inner tube. The side wall was gone due to the rim and the road after the loud noise. The goodyear dealer had no explanation for the failure. I am concerned that there may be a defect in either the tires or the truck, and this could happen again. I still have 4 original tires on the truck.

Accelerator pedal got stuck, causing a vehicle crash. Consumer adds while applying brakes vehicle would not stop.
When driving 10to 20 mph or starting upvehicle surges and will hesitate. Dealer contacted.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet tahoe. While attempting to complete a turn at 2 mph, the vehicle abnormally accelerated. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by applying the brakes. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and was examined but was not serviced. The failure had not recurred. The failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 60,002. Updated 07/14/2010.*ljupdated 07/15/10.
Vehicle surges when going up grade.
Gas pedal sticks when the truck is taking off from a stop or park position, when driving it is fine.
Throttle sticks closed requiring excessive force to push throttle pedal. This causes sudden acceleration when you get past the stuck area.
2001 chevrolet tahoe, only 51,000 miles and accelerator sticks which is very dangerous.had it repaired today at dehaven chevrolet.they had a service bulletin on it and repaired it at a cost of $193.59, but truthfully $139.95 directly related.i feel this problem should not happen so soon in a vehicles life, and is so safety related, that chevrolet should repair under a recall, or at their expense. I've never had a stuck accelerator problem and i am glad the kids, and my wife mentioned it. It did stick on once or twice. I had fixed within 2 days.*nlm
Throttle pedal on truck needs extra pressure to depress.this problem has occurred many times, resulting in vehicle lunging forward or acceleration pedal sticking.please describe details.
I took my 2001 chevy tahoe to the local dealer to fix a sticking gas pedal.since the vehicle is under the original warranty (3 yr/36,000 mile), i should not incur the cost of repair.and with only 25,000 miles, a sticking gas pedal is not normal.however, chevrolet/gm does not agree (please see email traffic).i feel that this "carbon buildup" is a known defect and a safety issue - not a normalemissions operation.could you please look into this matter?nobody deserves to have a sticking gas pedal at any time.thank you.sincerely, joseph c. Cua >>>>>>>>>>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<dear mr. Cua,thank you for your continued patience as we have researched your questions regarding the gas pedal sticking in your 2001 chevrolet tahoe. We appreciate your patience.we did contact gunn chevrolet and spoke with service manager, stephanie rocha. Ms. Rocha advised us that in the owners manual, under the section of maintenance services, it specifically states at 15,000 miles that the vehicle may require emissions service and then possibly again at 30,000 miles. Ms. Rochas states that the sticking pedal is due to carbon build up from gasoline and is deemed normal maintenance and is part of the emissions service. Throttle sticking. I see mai=ny complaints have been filed. Does someone have to die befoir gm has to fix the problem???
Gas pedal sticks closed, and requires a large amount of pressure to depress brake pedal.happens every time the vehicle is stopped.when you start up in morning, leaving parking spaces, at stop lights, etc.
The rear hatch glass is mounted to the body by a rubber hinge attachment process, the bonding failed which allowed the rear hatch glass to fall off of the body hitting me in the process. This causes a dangerous condition that could harm another motorist if the glass falls off while traveling at highway speed. It is a very common failure that is a manufacturers defect.
I was loading groceries through the open liftgate window.when i finished and tried to close the window it wouldn't close.it was off center, i was finally able to close it by pushing up on the passenger side of the glass allowing me to secure the liftgate glass.i bougth this car through carmax in charlotte and never received a notice about this problem but with research i have discovered it to be a fairly common problem.
I was driving between 30 to 40 mph with my daughter in the passenger seat and my 3 year old grandson in the back seat. All windows were rolled up with the temperature outside being around 70 degrees.without seen cause or warning the passenger window instantaneously with a loud bang broke into a million pieces covering my daughter.i pulled over to see if i could see anything that could of caused this.it was very frightening.my daughter was o.k. And i called the police.a report was made.there was no rock thrown,no bullets fired, no one around doing any landscaping or construction to cause an object to be projected toward the window.this could have caused a major accident but fortunately it did not.what could have caused this?the police suggested a defect in the window.the window had no previous cracks, or problems.could you please let me know if this has ever happened and what can be done about it.thank you, jill

The driver and front passenger windows have defects. The consumer heard a poppingnoise when rolling the window down, and then the windowwouldnot go up or down.the window on the passenger side is half way.the driver side has been repaired.
Both front door power windows fail to operate. The motors make a grinding noise and the windows will not fully open or close. The glass panels apparently are not attached as they can be moved by hand. The failures have occurred within two days of each other and have been vary rarely been opened since the vehicle was purchased.
The rear drivers side window went down by itself, and now is inoperable from either the drivers electric window switch or rear passenger switch, so it is stuck down.all other windows work fine. I have not fixed the problem yet.
I have this same problem as jb---driver's outside rearview mirror (heated and light dimming) reflected image is severely distorted. There has been no damage to the mirror, but it is distorted and at night it is very hard to tell how many vehicles are behind because each headlight appears to be 3 or 4 headlights. This is a safety issue.
Would not pass inspection. Man told me 3 out of 5 tahoes do not pass because parking brake does not work.

Windshield wiperswill only work on high.when the wipers are turned off they will not return to their appropriate place of rest.this creates a distraction while driving.i will take to a gm dealer for repair.i hoped to find recall information on this web site, but i could not.i suppose this has not been recalled, but from hearsay seems to be a common problem.
Windshield wiper shear pins broke (4 separate times) during snow conditions-compromises ability to view through front window- creates hazard while driving in snow conditions.
I take good care of all my cars and this on just keeps having problems.(i'd have to find the list from the shop - but i have no more money to fix it or buy another - and i just love this thing :(
Was driving taking kids to school in a residential neighbor hood . When i made a turn onto a street the truck dropped to right side and the tire and axle rolled into another car. Turning 5 mile hr
I took my vehicle for a 90,000 mile service call.the dealership did not make the recommended adjustments which are on recall then, or on a subsequent scheduled appointment.make / models : model/build years: chevrolet / suburban 2000-2001chevrolet / tahoe 2000-2001gmc / yukon 2000-2001gmc / yukon xl 2000-2001 type:truckrecall number:00v343000summary: vehicle description: light duty pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. Consumer stated that stones get caught up between the rear rims and the disc brake which caused the rear tires to lock up. Ts
This vehicle picks up small stones between the rear brake calipers and the wheel rims.this causes a loud grinding noise, and upon removal of the wheel the inside of the aluminum rim is found to have deep gouges in it where the stone was grinding.if enough stones rubbed here, it could cause the tire to lose pressure through the rim, or if the stone rolled up just right, it could cause an explosive crack and deflation of the tire possibly causing loss of control ot the vehicle.i contacted my dealer who said they have had several vehicles with this problem, and that gm is going to have to do something to address this problem, but at the present they have done nothing.i also contacted chevrolet, and they said contact the dealer, there is nothing they can do.my wife and children use this vehicle for a school bus, and i am very worried about their safety, and there seems to be no recourse for this engineering defect.
