The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle crashed into a lamp post that was surrounded by cement.the front end was pushed in, which caused the engine to shift.the air bags failed to deploy and the driver sustained injuries to his back and neck.the vehicle was towed to a local repair shop and the mechanic stated that the air bags should have deployed.the dealer was not notified.the manufacturer filed a case and stated that they would be in touch with their decision.the current and failure mileages were 144,000.
While driving consumer hit a patchof ice which sent the vehicle sliding, and causing an accident. However, the air bags did not deploy, and consumer was injured. Consumercontacted the dealer, and manufacturer. Consumer feels that much of the pain and suffering might have been prevented by the protection of the 4 air bags in this tahoe-none of which deployed upon an impact that crushed thefront of the vehicle. Jammed th efront pasenger door which consumer could not open , and bent the car's frame beyond repair.
Right front tire (no make or model provided) experienced a blowout, causing the vehicle to go off the road, come back onto the roadway, and crash into a cement wall, the consumer stated that he believed the back right tire experienced a blowout as well, during the crash the airbag experienced a no deployment, one person was injured due to the incident. (ohio traffic crash report)
I was recently in an accident and my 2 children were in the vehicle with me.i was in a 5 car wreck in which my vehicle, and the one in front of me were totaled.upon impact on the front of my truck, my air bags didn't deploy nor did my seat belts lock.my 11 yr old hit his head on the dash, requiring immediate medical attention for a severe laceration which required stitches. I learned from gmc there was a recall on my truck for air bag malfunctions and i was never notified.
There appears to be a malfunction with the connector of the air bag system located under the front passenger side seat.this malfunction causes the air bag system to shut down, it is frequent, known by chevrolet, and seems to be difficult to repair since after 4 times of taking the vehicle into service, the problem has yet to be solved.
Purchased vehicle 5/27/00 was returned for service 6/6/00 airbag light came on received vehicle back 6/9/00, 6/11/00, airbag light back on again, back to dealer 6/12/00, received vehicle back 6/23/00 so far the airbag light has not come on again. I was told that the airbag could deploy for no reason when the light is on.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. While the contact's son was driving 40 mph, he crashed into a vehicle that ran a red light. The air bags did not deploy. The contact's son sustained chest, lower back, and neck pains that required medical attention. The contact's son went to the emergency room two separate times. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The contact was waiting for finalized information from the insurance company to determine if the vehicle was totaled. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The cause of the failure was not determined. The failure mileage was unknown.
Air bag light is activated. I have had my 2000 tahoe ls in for service to correct this problem once already, but after about 2 months the light is back on. I felt i needed to file this report because of several articles i have read on this subject. I have read everything from air bags will not deploy, to air bags will deploy for no reason at all, both of which should be considered unacceptable and dangerous.
August 2003 airbag sensor light came on. We were told that ifthis sensor came on, there was a problem with the airbag system and that none of the airbags would deploy. In researching the problem, we found that 525,254 chevy tahoe ls, year 2000 were recalled for defective sensors(sensing diagnostic module) and/or airbag problems.during a routine oil change a diagnostic scan was run on the vehicle. We were then told to bring the vehicle into a dealer for possible warranty work. Eisinger motors, 1000 west idaho, kalispell mt 406-755-5555 told us that we would be responsible for paying for the repair costs.since the vehicle was on the recall list (actually there are 5 nhtsa recalls on the chevy 2000 tahoe ls), are we actually responsible for repair costs? nhtsa states that dealers will recalibrate the sdm on the affected vehicles andthat owners who do not receive the free remedy should contact chevrolet or gmc. If the airbag deployment system is not immediately attended to, the driver and or passengers could receive severe injuries.
Consumer was in two accidents.one in novemer of 2000 and the other in september of 2002.the air bags did not deploy in either incident.consumer described the incidents to a representative of general motors.consumer was informed that the air bags should not have deployed, in the first accident there was one injury, in the second accident, there were two injuries.*jg
On november 11,2000 i had a head on collision (not my fault) and the airbags didn't deploy. Then on sept 1,02we had a accident on interstate 95that we totaled the tahoe and the body shop called gm since the airbags didn't deploy again. Mr. Lattermere from gm callled me and told me over the phone after i describe the accident to him that , as he drew a picture on paper, "that the air bags shouldn't have deployed". I find it very difficult that a person can draw a picture and tell me this. I would like for your organization to inspect this vechile and retrieve the computer information and let me know what you think. Gm sent an "indepedent" inspector out to do a report but i have nothing from him or gm on the finding. I have left messages for mr. Lattermere to call me to no avail.
While drivingsrs light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.this caused the horn to malfunction.vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic could not duplicate the problem.the consumer stated that problems continue after the dealership assured him there was no problem.on two 500 mile trips the light was on the entire time.*tc
While traveling at 35 mph lost control and car flipped, hit an inbankment. Upon impact, airbags didn't deploy, hood released, cutting consumer to the bone.
Drivers door took a direct hit from a semi at an intersection and no air bag deployed.
Front crash at 60 mph, neither airbag deployed.prior to accidentvehicle had been to dealer 5 times, airbag light was constantly on.
Consumer states while driving 55mph hit concrete divider and air bags did not deploy.
Head on collision, impact on front right side, hit and sheared in half a wooden utility pole, no air bag deployment on either side, bumper is curled under front end of vehicle.
I took my truck to island chevrolet for the antilock recall and i mentioned about the recall for the air bags on the chevrolet tahoe 2000 because my air bag light has been on.i was told my 2000 tahoe is not on the recall because it was the model made later in the year.but when they put the truck on the diagnostic they found it had right& left side deployment loop resistance low.they were going to charge me $800.00 and since i had to fix my 4 wheel drive also i could not afford it.but it seems to me that the recall should be extended to the later models of 2000 also.i know of a couple of people that also have this problem and they also have the later 2000 model.
While driving, the consumer was involved in a major accident, but the driver side door air bags failed to deploy. The consumer suffered injuries.
The consumer was involved in a major accident but the driver side air bags failed to deploy. The consumer suffered injuries.
It has been noticed that over a course of two monthsair bag light has been illuminating on the dashboard.vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the cause of the problem was the improper connection of the side air bag plug.
My sunroof leaks, my brakes do not work well, my rear windshield wiper went crazy, wouldn't stop ,now is broken; my two back power window motors have stopped.i cannot roll one down, the other one was replaced while under warranty.my parking brake does not work.my 2000 tahoe also leaks underneath the steering column somehow causing my driver's side floorboard to get soaked and there are pieces rusting underneath due to this.my car smells of mildew because of these leaks, my leather seats are ruined and the floor boards are ruined.
Dear sirs, i own a 2000 chevy tahoe, that i bought new. Ocacionally the engine ( 5.3 l), would stall without warning. Usually when braking but just before a complete stop.it always happened when the engine was at operating temp.i also noticed that the engine, atidle, would dip down to 200- 300 rpm's, with the a/c or defroster on, and the engine would stumble and shake the vehicle. If i tap the gas peddle a little, it produces the same results.i took the truck to harbor cheverlet, michigan city on 2-25-02for service after it had stalled on me 8-10 times since new,and they reprogrammed the pcm per tsb #00-07-30-006, and sent me on my way with 33092 miles on the truck. I returned to the dealer again on 4-12-02 ,same complaint. They said no problem found at this time. It is now 12-18-02 and in the last month it has stalled around 15-20 during idle conditions.there are no other problems with the engine other than at idle. I am taking it back to the dealer on satuday with 49000 miles on, and out of warranty to see what they say about fixing it. Do you have any information on the number of complaints for this vehicle and problem, and could you e-mail that to me? thank you.

My 2000 tahoe caught a fire - it started cranking by itself w/o the keys in it and then flames started shooting out of the drivers side of the suv and burnt that side of the dashboard and busted the windshield. I was able to put the fire out with 2 fire ext. And a water hose.i had to jerk the cables from the battery to get it to quit cranking.and if you connect them back it will start cranking again w/o the keys.i was not having any problems with it and i don't know how it could start by itself w/o keys or anyone in the suv.i asked gm to assist me and they stated that the statute of repose in ky is eight years from the original purchase and they will not assist me.i could understand that but not something like this when a vehicle starts on its own and burns - please help me.thanks
My 2000 chevrolet tahoe was up on a ramp and i was checking the brake pedal on my truck. The column shifter was on p position and the keys were off the ignition. My lower body was outside of the vehicle and as i was checking inside the brake pedal the vehicle started rolling back on its own off the ramp. The driver door pulled down the pole from the back porch as it was backing up and shut back hitting my knee and injured it. I have a bruised left shoulder and back pain. My knee is badly swollen. I was able to limit the damage by pressing the brake pedal otherwise the door would have hit the second pole holding the back porch and it would have collapsed altogether.i incurred damage on my back porch; my vehicle.after that incident i found out that the atc fuse somehow blew when i was underneath: the 4wd indicator was not lit up at all, while it was set in 2hi the whole time. It had somehow switched to neutral on its own when the fuse blew. When i replaced the fuse the light went back to the 2hi position. The column shifter was on p the whole time even after it rolled.this incident is extremely serious and requires a recall because this problem could cause extensive injury or death in case this fuse fails in other circumstances. I would like to be contacted by gm to fix the issue and compensate for all the damages.
Delco battery failure.

A co-worker and i went to a christian book store during lunch on thursday, march 19, 2009, we left our office at 12:30 pm.we arrived at the store approximately 12:50 pm.we went into the store, we weren't in the store 10 minutes and my alarm was going off on my 2000 chevrolet tahoe.i tried to unlock & relock the truck because i thought it was just a fluke.i looked out the window of the store and saw a little smoke coming from the hood (near the windshield).i thought maybe it was overheating (we never had any trouble with overheating in the past), fire never entered my mind for a second.i ran outside and opened the door.when i opened the door there was a bunch of smoke and fire under the driver's side dash.then the fire went crazy.the fire department said it took all the water they had to put it out (500 gallons).they are pretty sure it was electrical.we have never had any trouble with this tahoe.we didn't have anything mechanically done to it.it literally caught fire sitting in the parking lot.if this had happened when i was still driving my friend and i wouldn't be alive.this has been a very traumatic event in my life, don't know what the insurance is going to do if anything and can't afford another vehicle payment.plus the tahoe was only 4 payments from being paid off.called chevrolet on friday, march 20th , talked to oscar robins and he was suppose to talk to my husband, instead he had his representative call him and ask him useless questions (like my height??).my husband said that representative was going to call me with some more questions.they never did.
When turning left at slow speeds, my wife noticed that the steering wheel had a good amount of resistance. When she turned the wheel further to the left, the vehicle had a complete loss of power. At the time of the incident, my wife was in north conway nh,so she had the vehicle towed to the nearest chevrolet dealership (crest auto world, north conway, nh, (603) 356-5401). The service rep at crest auto world found that the main engine harness had wrapped itself around the steering column and when my wife turned the wheel, the harness was severed, thus removing all power to the vehicle. The service rep found that the harness was not installed properly. My dealership in va beach was notified. The dealership in north conway nh repaired the wires in the harness and recommended that we have the entire harness replaced when the vehicle returned to va beach.
This happened twice in the last week.while accelerating the gas pedal has gotten stuck and the vehicle increases with speed. In a panic i shifted the transmission into neutral; the engine kept revving. As i continued to attempt to un-stick the gas pedal i noticed it was all the way down to the floor.after about 20 seconds it finally un-stuck when i stomped on it several times.this happened first on a public street and last while entering the highway.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while attempting to come to a complete stop, the abs system disengaged causing the vehicle to lunge forward. The contact stated that the abs system would re-engage if the brake pedal was released and then depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds, there would be an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle would veer to the left. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hub bearing assembly on the drivers side of the vehicle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure recurred on three separate occasions. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds for a period of time and then turning off the vehicle, a burning oil odor would come from the vehicle. The contact stated that while having the vehicle serviced by an independent mechanic, it was informed that there was engine oil leaking from the main seal and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, however the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Vehicle does not start. It has plenty of battery power. Engine stumbles for a second then starter just spins with no ignition.had chevy roadside assistance p/u vehicle and it did not start for driver. Vehicle was taken to rk chevrolet vineland nj where vehicle sat for a day and a half before it was even looked at, and then guess what, it started. Vehicle was returned to me as no trouble found. Now i have to wait until it strands me again and hope it can be looked at in a more timely fashion in hopes they might be able to figure it out. Looking forward to being stranded again.
This vehicle has been returned to a dealer (tony's chevrolet) because it is under warranty.the vehicle engine dies when put into gear after being started.it also runs very rough and "chugs" while idling or while driving, as if it is going to die.the dealer says that it is a timing problem that will be fixed when a new software card is available (approx. Sept. 1).they claim that no damage is being done to my car.chevrolet customer service claim that they they have no reports of this problem in tahoes.after talking to tony's, chevrolet c.s. Said that it is a timing problem, off by 12%, and that it will be repaired with a new software card.i am not convinced that this is not causing harm to the car.i am convinced that it is increasing my gas consumption.i feel unsafe and uncomfortable in this new (6 months old) and expensive vehicle.it is totally unreliable.i am concerned about being out at night or this winter with a vehicle that may not run.
Dealership damaged body while replacing engine, was alerted to the obvious damage and repaired.
While driving engine willdie without a prior warning. Consumer is concerned because is will cut all the energy onvehicle. Had taken vehicle to dealer, they explained that it was due tofuelbeing used.please provide more information.
I have had this vehicle back a three different dealerships. Two of them informed me that these conditions are normal for this vehicle and there is nothing that the can do. Wallace lundgren at least kept the vehicle for a week and apparently tried to duplicate the symptoms. These problems are occuring intermittantly and me being an automotive technician know how hard intermitant problems are but because of the safety of my family i believe that a vehicle that intermitantly has no brakes should be taken seriously. Also i would like to note that lundgren chevrolet gave me a 2000 suburban as aloner and guess what no brakes intermittantly. Also my service manager fred scharnberg has had the same problems with his new 2000 suburban. I believe g.m is about to have a very big problem when these vehicles start killing people because the can't stop.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. The contact statedthat the check engine light illuminated onthe dashboard. He took the vehicle to a local repair facility for diagnostic testing. The mechanic advised that the exhaust manifold bolts were fractured; two on the passenger's side and one on the driver's side. The mechanic stated the engine would have to be pulled from the vehicle to perform repairs. The contact also stated that when he would open the hood, smoke would emit from the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated he was able to locate numerous complaints on his year, make and model pertaining to the failure. The failure and current mileage was approximately300,000.

However, this vehicle is not included due to vin although this vehicle is experiencing the same problem that is described in the recall. Also, the brake lights are inoperative.

While driving could smell fuel inside of vehicle.consumer has to roll down the windows, but smell will still be there.no leak had been found.however, technician said that cause of the smell had been a burning on differential.
Brake line corrosion!! (all lines!), one ruptured, lost brakes, forced off road to stop, extended braking distance, almost crashed.driving home from airport at 1am, getting off highway, brake pedal went all the way to floor.... Brakes kicked in approx. 90-95% of the way to the floor, but took forever to stop. Another car was at traffic light off the highway, and i was forced into the grass on the side of the road before car came to full stop. Towed home - i replaced master cylinder thinking that's where the failure was, but then i couldn't bleed rear brakes and noticed the puddle under the truck and crawled under to discover there was a brake line that was completely rusted through.this happened at the abs module, where 5 brake lines connect, and all the lines show dangerous corrosion levels and need to be replaced.it also affected a fuel line right there too, (fuel filter is right there).... I have owned the truck since new, and there is 1 line that looks brand new (never replaced), and all other lines in that area are dangerously corroded. Very odd that one line looks good, and all the other lines are bad.i have pictures of all lines and corrosion available.
Dt:the contact stated the fuel pump short circuited inside the fuel tank while driving at 70 mphand it lost power.he managed to pull the vehicle off the road without any power steering or power brakes. He found the fuse tha blew out and changed it. He was able to drive the vehicle home.took the vehicle to a certified mechanic, the fuel pump was replaced atcontact'scost.he contacted the manufacturer, and there was recall, but did not include this year, make and model.
I have had the ps pump, steering gear box, fuel pump, 4wd switch, and all rotors/ brakes replaced. My sunroof rubber seal had to be replaced. All my work has been done by a gm dealership from north carolina, mo & wa. My vehicle has never been off road, it is more for looks. But i am not pleased with this $38,000 maintenance trap. I have all documented work and services.
Whilst driving home from upstate ny to my home in nj, thefuel pump on my chevrolet tahoe failed suddenly and catastrophically. I was driving at 65 mph at the time and with the failure of the pump, i lost all power, including steering and brakes. I very narrowly avoided an accident and other traffic. This was very scary and trying to steer and brake without power is not easy. This is the 3rd time that a fuel pump has failed on a tahoe owned by myself, although the other 2 times the failure was while parked and not at high speed. My current car has 72,000 miles. The previous incidents were at approx the same mileage. Is this normal? have any other accidents been caused by sudden and catastrophic failure of tahoe fuel pumps?
Dt: 2000 chevrolet tahoe . The car would back fire through the fuel injection. The fuel pump has been replaced three times. The car was bought less than 2 years ago.

After fueling vehicle and driving short distance, then parking on front-end-down slope, a large amount of fuel (apx 1 gallon) began dripping on ground from top of fuel tank.i turned vehicle around so front of tank was higher than rear of tank and dripping slowed and stopped.mechanic said fuel pump assembly on top of fuel tank was leaking.mechanic now in process of replacing fuel pump, and will give me old pump.mehcanic said possible cause that he has seen before is due to corrosion, however, vehicle has been operated at all times in arid, dry desert temperature that is not conducive to vehicle corrosion.
I have a 2000 tahoe chevrolet ltd.since 3/04 it has failed to start about 7 or 8 times.it usually occurs in the morning when i'm leaving for work.once we were on our way to the hospital for my 14 month old's broken arm.it turns over but will not start.i have had it checked several times.when the shop checks it several hours later, it starts.they have replaced several items.none of which have worked.they told me that they couldn't find anything wrong with it and they were just replacing things that might be causing the problem.it's very frustrating.

The truck was equipped with federal emissions instead of california emissions. He was informed of an written announcement /letter that was sent to some tahoe owners.the truck experienced the same failures as the consumer's which received the information for "sequential fuel injection system".the manufacture zone rep agreed to fix it at first but is now denying.the service engine light came on while driving along with misfiring of the injectors.
Fuel tank leaks. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer replaced fuel tank assembly. Had fuel tank replaced 4 times, and problem still exists.please add vin.
I took my chevy 2000 tahoe ltd, for its first calif. Smog test and was told "everything was fine except the gas tank cap." "the cap failed the pressure test and escaping fumes could cause an explosion."i had the cap replaced and was further told, "this test failure is happening to all 2000 model year tahoes, surburbans & sliverados" this technicians has tested.is this possible hazard and correcting it the responsibility of chevrolet/gm???

My rear windshield collapsed into pieces when i opened the cargo door. The shattered glass flew everywhere and resulted in minor cuts scrapes, and not to mention incontrollable tears on my 6-yr old daughter and myself. The service dept. Employee stated several vehicles have gone for the same reason. My parking brake is inoperable and caused my vehicle not to pass inspection. My co-worker had the same problem just yesterday and it needed all of the cabling replaced. When my vehicle was still under extended warranty we lost 3 tires and the men at the tire shop told us that our truck was missing the pinions on all four wheels and the dangers it caused. I had them added to my truck and haven't had a tire bust since. Never got compensation. I think this is something i should be compensated for. Its ridiculous how these new vehicles are falling apart and no one is on our side.

Living in the city limits of memphis, tn a resident is required to pass vehicle inspection before renewing vehicle tags.my 2000 tahoe chevrolet failed inspection for the emergency break did not work.after having fixed and return to re-inspect my vehicle the first thing out of the ladies mouth when i pulled in was let me guess you failed b/c of your emergency brake i said yes, how did you know.she proceeded to tell me that several tahoe/yukons including 2003 have failed this year.wanted to make you aware of this issue so further investigation can be done.thanks. *nlm

The parking brake is a mechanically operated drum and shoe brake independent of the hydraulic caliper.the design is defective in that the shoe assembly is held in place only by friction of the actuator surface and a clip.under vibration, the shoe falls and rides on the drum wearing in to the drum.on my vehicle, the top of the shoe brake surface was not worn but the bottom was down to the metal and the drum had worn 0.100 into the radius.as a result, there was no parking brake.the local chevrolet dealer service manager told me that gm was working for a fix in the 2003 models and that they replaced many drums and shoe assemblies at an estimated cost to the owner (or new vehicle warranty) of $1000.discussion with a local tx stated inspection station indicated that they reject many 2000 and newer gm vehicles due to parking brake failures. ***dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis****762856
The parking brake on the 2000 or newer chevrolet tahoe fails over time even if the brake is not used.my parking brake has been used three time in three years.each time was during the vechile inspection only.this third year the brake failed to stop the vehicle.the inspection agent says that all 2000 or newer chevrolet tahoes have this issue.gm has not provided a recall.in (flat) texas this is not a problem but it would be a problem in a more hilly geography.
The emergency brake/parking was replaced the first time on 10-30-2002.the consumer took the vehicle in for inspection and was told the emergency brake had failed again. Please provide any further information.
The parking brake on the 2000 chevrolet tahoe failed inspection because the emergency brake failed to stop the vehicle.the problem was diagnosed by three separate mechanics all of whom notified me that this is a common problem among 2000 chevrolet tahoes, suburbans, & trucks.i have rarely used my emergency brake.this problem ruined my brake drums and cost me nearly $1000.00.
Took vehicle for yearly inspection, and the emergency parking brake failed.this is the second time in two years that this has occurred leading to expensive reapir work. We never even use the parking brake!
Parking brake is junk on my 2000 chevrolet tahoe. Issue a recall please - i already had it replaced once.
The emergency brake pedal went all the way to the floor. *nlmconsumer had the emergency brake cable adjusted twice. After the second failure, the consumer was informed the emergency brake couldn't be adjusted. The dealer gave him the specs from general motors stating that he couldn't park his tahoe on a hill with over a thirty degree angle. The consumer had purchase chalk blocks to place under the tires when parked on a hill. The consumer wasn't informed of this before purchasing the vehicle. *ph
Consumer states when emergency brake was applied brake cable snapped.cable was replaced, and 28,000 miles later.

Although the dash says "apply brake to shift from park", my 3 year old son was able to shift out of park causing the vehicle to start rolling backward down a hill.what i discovered was that he had turned the key halfway between the off position and the accessory position and in this intermediate position the vehicle freely shifts out of park without pressing the brake at all.i contacted the dealer and he indicated it is the brake shift lockout switch that controls that safety feature.clearly if my 3 year old son can get around that safety feature, it is not a safety feature at all.
While driving over a period of time, and when making a stop , vehicle slams into gear very harshly.cause unknown. Please give any further details.
Dt*:the contact stated that the vehicle was unable to shift into reverse.the transmission also slipped between neutral and drive.the dealer determined that the sun shell of the transmission was defective.
While driving could smell fuel inside of vehicle.consumer has to roll down the windows, but smell will still be there.no leak had been found.however, technician said that cause of the smell had been a burning on differential.
I have enclosed a letter with fax describing events.thank you. No component mentioned in summary.the consumer wrote a letter on behalf of her sister who is the owner of the vehicle in question. The owner took the vehicle to a repair shop where the mechanic stated he had never seen a rear differential in that state and found it to be rare and very unusual for a vehicle of that age/mileage. He advised the owner to check to see if there was a recall. Upon contacting gm, the consumerlearned there was no recall. Gm instructed the owner to have the vehicle towed to another dealership to have gm look at the vehicle. The second mechanic agreed this was unusual and that gm should cover at least 75 percent of the repair. By this time, the owner had the necessary repair completed.*ph
Consumer called complaining about the transmission.consumer also stated that the transmission burned out and had to be replace. Dealer was contacted and had stated that it will be cheaper to replaced it than to fix it . Mr
I own a 2000 chevy tahoe.it will not allow me to shift out of 4wd.i have researched similar complaints on the internet and have found many.there seems to be a correlation between the cold weather and the proper operation of that function.in a cold weather state such as michigan, this could be a problem all winter long.as a recurring condition it can be expensive to repair.just to diagnose the problem is at least $100 at most dealerships.
Passenger side seat belt tightens and does not loosen gets tighter as you go over bumps, you get locked into your seat does not loosen.
Rear front side seat belts would not engage properly.retractor failed to latch or release on its own. Driver took vehicleto the dealer, andmechanicdetermined that the seat belts needed to be replaced.
Front seat belt continues to tighten while passenger is in the seat.
Consumer's childwas in the third seat, and seat belt on commenced to tighten down on the child.unable to release the retractor, cut the shoulder belt to free the child. Dealer notified, and refused to replace the belt unless consumer picked up the charges.
Mid year in 2006 the passenger side seat in my tahoe started to slide on its track about 2 to 3 inches, back and forth. Then about 4 months later the same thing happened with the drivers seat. The seat slides back and forth about 4 inches. This is very hazardous when driving, because when you accelerate the seat slides back with a bang, and if you come to a quick stop, the seats sling you forward. I contacted the dealership which told me to contact chevrolet customer care. I explained to the i feel this is a defect in the way they assembled the seats. If it happened in just one seat i would agree, it is not a defect, but this has gradually happened to both seats. And there are other similar complaints on this website. The dealership denies this is a defect, and therefore chevrolet is denying this is a defect. I would appreciate any additional assistance with this problem.
Dt:the consumer owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. The front seats would slide on the rail. The passenger side began to do this first and the dealership told the consumer he would have to replace the motor. Both seats are now sliding about 5 inches back and forth.the gm manufacturer told the consumer to take the vehicle to a dealer to see if it was a manufacturing defect and maybe they could work with him to get it corrected if it was a defect.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that when his daughter drove down hill and the brake pedal was engaged, the brake system failed to engage causing the driver to hit a person that was driving a bicycle. The vehicle went up a hill and the driver proceeded attempting to stop the vehicle but it went up a hill, rolled backwards into bushes, and crashed into a tree where it came to a stop. The police was present and a report was filed; the police report number was not available. The person on the bicycle was taken to the hospital and suffered unknown fractures to the body.the driver did not sustain any injuries. The vehicle was towed to the contacts father residence and he noticed that the brake lines were corroded and brake fluid was on the ground. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was called however there was a long wait time and a representative was not available to answer the call promptly.the approximate failure mileage was 166,000. The vin was not available.
Brake line failure due to corrosion around clamps.
I was driving at roughly 45 mph on a public road when i was cutoff by another vehicle who also nearly came to a stop. I quickly brake and while the brakes did momentarily work the pedal then became very soft and fell to the floorboard.the offending vehicle then made its turn or i would have hit them.i limped the vehicle home where i found a busted brake line due to bad rust.this is a very dangerous situation.
Total brake system failure. Fortunately happened driving in neighborhood and not on highway or another higher speed road. There was no warning light or indication of any sort. Just hit the brakes and they were not there. This could have been a serious accident at anything over 20-25 mph!!!!!!!
This is the second brake incident i have had with our tahoe within the past year.in october 2012, i was driving the tahoe to an auto shop for the yearly inspection.upon arrival, one of the brake lines blew.at that time, we had all of the soft brake lines replaced due to corrosion.we were living in the northeast at that time.that repair was $800.on january 6, 2014, i went to do some errands.as i arrived home and pulled into my garage, the brake pedal went to the floor and the car made a hissing sound from the back.i turned the car off and there was fluid leaking from behind the driver's rear tire.unbelievable!we had the tahoe towed the next day to an auto shop and were told that the "hard" line in the braking system is rusted and corroded.we were quoted between $1500-2000.we also called the dealer for an estimate and were quoted $3000+.this is ridiculous!i've had more than one mechanic tell me that this is a known problem with the tahoes and the rust.both of these incidents we were very lucky not to have had an accident.why they are not doing on a recall on this is beyond me.how many cars does it take to have this failure before they do???or god forbid, they are waiting for a certain number of injuries or deaths before that sparks a recall.i am tired of shelling out money for this matter over and over.we haven't decided on whether it's worth repairing but if we decide to buy, it won't be chevy.they obviously don't care.
While driving on the nj garden state parkway vehicle was cutoff by another when brakes were applied a loud hissing was heard brake pedal went to the floor could not stop suv. Brake light came on and check engine light. Had to swerve out of the way of another car. Upon inspection of brakes the steel line to the back brakes right above the gas tank where you could not see it was rusted out and burst all of the brake fluid emptied out of it covering the bottom of tahoe.all metal brake lines were heavily rusted and corroded.
While driving my vehicle , i applied the brakes to stop at a traffic light , and the brake pedal traveled all the way to the floor . The tahoe finally stopped after a much longer than normal distance . After inspecting the master cylinder , there was hardly any brake fluid remaining . I found that the brake lines were very rusted , and that the line going to the rear brakes was rusted through . This rusting of the brake lines should never occur !

In 2011 my abs/brake light starting coming on took to dealership was told how much it would cost to repair.in searching online how to fix, i see a recall was given to salt belt states in 2005. I own truck since 2002. Told by gmc today the recall although it states salt belt states recall only affected certain vin #'s is this correct? first owner lived in salt belt state and truck manufactured in salt belt. I see there are additional gmc products with same problem. Why don't they repair?
In 2011 at a traffic light intersection brakes failed on my 2000 chevy tahoe (60k miles). Brake pedal fully depressed slowed the vehicle enough to swerve and avoid a collision. Repair revealed extensive corrosion on brake line that caused it to rupture. The repair is extremely costly since these lines are difficult to access, and they must be custom bent and fitted. To replace all lines would have cost $1500-$2000 to repair. As a result, like many people affected by this defect, we opted to only repair the damaged lines. In hindsight this wasn't the best choice, but the vehicle was undriveable and we didn't have the money to repair it fully. Predictably this failure happened again about a year later in a similar situation. Luckily again it was on a residential street and we were able to avoid yet another collision. I can only imagine if it was on the highway, on a mountain road or while trailering a boat etc. Subsequent to the latest failure we sold this vehicle.gm has been negligent in addressing this issue. The dealership offered nothing, stating that we live in the "salt belt, and this can happen". This statement is only a half truth since millions of other vehicles also in the salt belt don't have their brake lines fail during their useful life.gm is hoping that by delaying this they will avoid the enormous expense of recallingand repairing these vehicles. This is shameful because this type of safety issue is very dangerous and sneaky. It can come up at any time, anywhere.

Went to stop at stop sign at approximately 4mph and no brakes. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor without any resistance or hesitation. The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. While approaching a stop sign, the brakes failed. The contact had to apply excessive force in order to stop the vehicle. As a result, the contact crashed the vehicle into a pole. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 256,345.
While coming to a stop in traffic my brake pedal suddenly dropped to the floor. I tried to pump the pedal to gain some sort of pressure and stopping power but the pedal was not responding. Luckily i was already slowed down to a speed that did not cause injury to myself, my passengers or the vehicle that i had hit in the rear bumper. When i exited my vehicle i noticed brake fluid coming from the area were the fender and the door come together and also towards the back of the door were it meets the rear door jam. Under inspection it appears i had 2 failures at the same time. The front brake line failed and so did the rear. The corrosion is horrible and has also consumed the fuel lines. I believe they are the next to go. I don't understand how a company will spend the money to install a stainless exhaust system that will survive almost forever but they will not invest the money on the brake and fuel lines to be made out of stainless steel. I am very fortunate that i was not traveling at a high rate of speed, the outcome would have been much worse for everybody involved.
Tried to stop and brakes failed due to rusted thru rear left steel brake line. Now have 2 others rusted thru.

I took my tahoe in for a state inspection and as the mechanic pulled the car into the bay, the brake line failed.he could not stop the car.i have spoken with two different auto shops who told me this is a known problem with gm.sure enough.i did some research online and found complaint after complaint about this same exact issue.some were even involved in crashes.i am grateful that this did not happen while i was driving with my kids in the car.$800 later, i have my tahoe back.why is gm not doing anything about this?this is a rust and corrosion problem with the brake lines being open and exposed underneath the car.(model years 1999-2003)is gm waiting for a few fatalities to finally do something????
Hello i am experiencing the exact symptoms described in gm recall 05068c"these vehicles may have a condition permitting corrosion to occur between the front hub/bearing assembly and the wheel speed sensor. If the brakes are applied while the vehicle is traveling at a speed of greater than 6 km/h (3.7 mph) but less than 16 km/h (10 mph), the corrosion may cause an unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. If this condition occurred where stopping distance is limited, a crash could occur. "however, my vin is not included in the breakpoints, even though i have a 2000 chevrolet tahoe.i can demonstrate that this is the problem in two ways, first by reproducing with a scan tool that shows unexpected abs activation during stopping at this low speed, and second after pulling the abs fuse this problem does not happen.this clearly points to the abs issue mentioned in the recall.i have contacted two local dealerships, and after i asked about recalls they said my vin was invalid.then i contacted the chevy contact center and they said there are no recalls for my vehicle.so now what - should i just replace the abs sensors and move on, or is there any chance of getting this acknowledged by gm as part of the recall?
I on8/30/2013 noticed a very soft brake pedal and drove home carefully. I did not drive the car the next day out of concern for the brakes.i tested the brakes on sunday and found i had no brakes. The truck was towed to a repair facility on 9/2/2013. Inspection of the system shows all brake lines need replacement. Three have failed and the others when moved to allow replacement of the bad lines will fail. The bleeder valve is rusted and new calipers may be needed. Estimated total cost approx. $2000.00 plus. I have owned many cars and never encountered this problem before. I suspect inferior materials are being used for brake lines.i am told this is a very common occurrence. I am lucky that there was no accident caused by my brake failure. I am sure many others are not so lucky. The problem seems very common among cars built by the big three and less so among european auto makers. I suspect bean counters are saving a few dollars per car and to hell with safety!
Driving to gas station prior to going on vacation, appliedbrakes and peddle went to the floor with no warning lights on to indicate failure of the brake system.i found brake tubing failure on rear drivers side. The tubing is so rusted that it can not be repaired and must be replaced at a dealer the cost is around $3000.00 for all new brake tubing, probably why gm has not fixed the problem it's a big money maker.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000. The vin was unavailable.
It wasn't an accident, i was driving my tahoe and stopped and got out when i got back in and started driving i put my foot on brake and it went to the floor, at the time i did not know my brake line had busted. It was very scary for me. No warning light went on till i was almost home.. We took it to a shop to hear the brake line had rusted through. I sending this complaint do the fact i heard on the news that this has become a problem with this tahoe. We were planning on leaving that evening with our camper. Its a good thing it happened before we left otherwise there could of been a serious accident pulling the camper and not being able to stop. Please look into this matter.
I have a chevy tahoe 2000 new and my car has a very difficult time stopping at slow speeds.i have been having this problem for about a year now and have brought the car into a gmc service station numerous times.each time they have just charged me for breaks and not fixed the problem.
Antilock brakes activate at under 10 mph on clear road. This is on a 2000 chevrolet tahoe
I have a 2000 chevy tohoe which has massive corrosion on the anti lock brake system.we bought and used this vehicle for couple years in minnesota. We now reside in texas. We have been told this problem is not covered and is common with vehicles from up north.we find this hard to believe.the vehicle is only 5 years old.
Abs motor will not stop running.dealership pulled fuse to deactivate the abs system.abs light and parking brake light are now constantly lit.
The abs pump / valve system completely failed on my 2000 chevrolet tahoe, rendering my abs system useless.my vehicle has 56,000 miles and is in other wise very good condition.the replacement cost me slightly over $1000.as the braking system is a safety system, shouldn't this be covered by gm?
When slowing down to a stop, my chevy tahoe's anti lock brakes randomly kick on and keep my vehicle from coming to a regular stop, my braking distance is varied.
Consumer states brake pedal goes to floor. Brake lines to rear rusted through. Replaced 4 lines from front to rear.while brakingthe vehicle's brake line ruptured causing extended stopping distance.during repair of the brake lines the dealer advised the consumer that the antilock brake system self activates and will need new hubs to correct the problem.within days the consumer obtained a copy of the recall and contacted the manufacturer.the consumer was told by the representative that the recall was only applicable in canada.
The consumer stated thebrakes seemed to lose gripping power when brakes were applied, when the consumer hit a pot hole the brake would release under medium speed.weather condition has no affect on the brakes.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the abs system was failing and when driving at a slow rate of speed, the brakes would intermittently fail. The vehicle was inspected by the contact's personal mechanic who advised that the failure was within the braking system and that the contact should have the vehicle inspected by an authorized dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired in 2003 under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The dealer advised that the vehicle could be repaired at the contact's expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage 150,000.
I was pulling into an angle parking place and the abs brake system suddenly engaged, the vehicle surged forward striking a dumpster. Later it happened while slowing for a traffic light, almost causing me to rearend another vehicle. The dealer and gm have told me they fixed the problem once under a recall and will not cover it again.
Driving home from church 20 mile trip, about midway pressed on brakes and pedal went all the way to the floor with total loss of braking. Managed to make it through two red lights with horn and hazard lights before coming to a stopwith use of parking brake. Immediately i popped the hood to check for brake fluid and reservoir was still half full. Had the wife cycle the brakes so see if there were any problems with the master cylinder or booster. All looked good, walking around the car i found a large puddle of brake fluid inside drivers side rear wheel. Limped car home, and noticed the rear brake line which sits above the frame rail was completely rusted through. I can not replace this line myself so i will be returning vehicle for service to chevrolet dealer.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 8 mph, the anti lock brake system engaged without warning. The vehicle was not taken to dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance because the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 84,000.
I have a 2000 tahoe i busted a brake line thankfully i did it while pulling out of my garage after i came back from leave. Now my brake pedal depresses all the way to they floor and takes longer to stop. (real dangerous)i didn't think much of it b/c its a third vehicle until i looked online and read so much about rusted brake lines. When i looked at mine they were all rusted. Scared to see what the damage will be to fix all the lines. Funny thing is the underbelly of my 2000 tahoe looks worse than that of my 82 c10.
On dec 24th 2008 upon pulling into my driveway at about 5-7 mph anti-lock brakes activated for no apparent reason causing me to collide with my house after applying brakes for over 20 feet.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe.while driving between 3-6 mph, the brake pedal pulsated when it was depressed.the contact stated that the sensors failed.the dealer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock), although the failures were identical.the contact would have to pay $705 to repair the vehicle.the state where he resides is included in the recall.the contact still drives the vehicle and shifts into neutral or turns off the vehicle when needing to brake, in order to avoid crashing into the preceding vehicle.the recall indicates that the failure occurs in corrosive areas.the failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 127,000.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. When the contact attempted to engage the brake pedal at low speeds when it rains, she noticed that the abs brake control activated and disabled the brakes which caused the vehicle to continually move forward. The failure has not been diagnosed by a dealer. The contact also stated that when the vehicle was driven during very cold temperatures that the braking distance would increase greatly. The current mileage was 84,588 and the failure mileage was at 70,000.
When applying the brakes at low speeds the abs kicks in making the vehicle shutter to a stop which makes the vehicle unable to stop right away.
I own a 2000 chevrolet tahoe.i began having trouble stopping at low speeds, the abs system is engaging when i drop below approximately 10 mph, making it very difficult to stop at low speeds.the first time it happened, i almost drove off a cliff on a mountain road because i couldn't stop the truck.the cliff is approximately 1,500 feet down - we are very lucky we aren't dead because we only stopped a few feet from the edge. Through online research, i found a nhtsa recall (campaign id number 05v379000), which stated that certain pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles may experience unwanted antilock brake system activation. The condition was more likely to occur in environmentally corrosive areas. The recall was launched only in the "salt belt" states.the chevy tahoe i own was originally purchased in wisconsin and driven there for 5 years before i purchased it and moved to colorado.i called the manufacturer (gm/chevy) to inform them of the abs issue, and they stated that the vin was not included in the recall even though the failures were identical. The mileage is 222,400.
Driving in the fast lane on the freeway, had a sudden stop in traffic, my brakes went to the floor, and skipped to a stop.brakes went to the floor thereafter having to coast to a stop.brake line had rust corrosion and cracked.the same thing happened again october 2010.my son was driving us to his driver's education class and the brakes went completely to the floor having to coast to a stop.thankfully, no one was hurt.another line had rust corrosion and split in two.
Abs intermittently came on when i apply the brakes. After several weeks of this happening the brakes became very mushy. Changed both front wheel sensors but didn't fix the problem. Took to repair shop and they said the brake modulator was bad - $1200 to repair.we disconnected the anti-lock brake system at this point.brakes work fine without it.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that when driving 35 mph or less, the vehicle would exhibit a loud grinding noise. In addition, the brake pedal would become soft when applying the brakes, increasing stopping distance and time. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failure where the dealer replaced the brake and the rotors several times but the failure persisted.the failure mileage was 58,000 and the current mileage was 84,000.
A few days before the complete failure we noticed that the brakes had started to feel "mushy". On 9/29/12 my husband hit the brakes hard and that is when the brake line blew out in the front and the rear. The brake line is completely rusted from front to rear.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. While driving thevehicle at a speed of 35 mph, the abs warning indicator illuminatedand the vehicle experienced unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation. When the engine was shut off, the antilock braking system would continue to run. The contact confirmed that the only way to deactivate the abs system was to remove the fuse and the failure had occurred on numerous occasions. The contact believed the failure to be directly related to nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock). The dealer advised the vehicle was not included in the recall and the recall would only apply to the salt belt states. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. The current mileage was 133,000 and the failure mileage was 70,000.
Have been complaining about soft brakes since the odometer read 18000.the master cylinder was replaced and i have paid for new front brakes twice and was told that the new braking systems did not last as long.dealer told me that is just the way the new cars are.i have taken to an independent brake shop and they told me the car looks like it has 70000+ miles on it when it is less than 2 years old and has 33000 miles on it.it needs a complete brake overhaul and is deemed unsafe to drive.the total cost of the repair will be 1112.96
Dt*:the consumer stated the abs activated at low speeds.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, regarding the anti-lock brakes.the consumer experienced the same problem as indicated in the recall; however, the vehicle identification number was not included in the recall.
The service departments informed me that they had replaced approximately 6 other chevrolet sports/utility vehicles (ie tahoe or truck) abs modules, and believed that the modules should have been recalled.this is a fairly small dealership.chevrolet dismissed my report because the truck and tahoe were different models.however, from what i understand the tahoe/suburban and trucks are the same basic vehicle, except for the chasis.
Dt*: the contact stated after having a recall performed in october 2005, the abs and brake light continued to stay illuminated.the front end shook very badly.when the brake was depressed, the pedal pulsated.the dealership inspected the vehicle numerous times and could not find the problem.the recall was campaign id #05v379000, regarding service brakes, hydraulic: antilock.
Dt:the contact stated while driving abs activated at low speeds without warning.this occurred on normal road conditions under normal braking, and this problem occurred repeatable. The wheel sensors were replaced.there was nhtsa recallcampaign 05v379000 concerningthe antilock brake system, but the state of virginia was not included.he contacted the dealership, and the manufacturer ,and they indicated more states were going to be added to the recall list.

No brakes at low speed on my tahoe.the truck was recalled in 2006 for anti-lock brake issues.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that when attempting to apply the brakes at various speeds, there was an unusual increase in stopping distance. The dealer made repairs under nhtsa recall campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock) and the failure continued to occur. In addition, the abs would abruptly engage after repeated pressure was applied to the brake pedal. The vehicle was not taken back to the dealer for additional repairs or diagnostic testing. The failure and current mileages were unknown.
Severe vibrationwhile driving at 50 or more mph. On one occasion it almost causedvehicle to tip over. Vehicle been in dealer shop on 2 occasions, and unable to locate problem.prior to the vibration proble, air bag sensor, both rear window motores and peeling das-board had been replaced.the dealer replaced brake sensors as a possible cause of vibration but the problem was not solved.
Dt: while driving on dry pavent at 45 mph, another car cut consumer's vehicleoff, as he attempted to brake, unreasonable stopping was needed. Narrowly avoided collision with the other vehcile. No warning prior to failure. This occurred under emergency braking conditions. Front anti lockb rake system was replaced by the dealership. The brake pedal responded by depressing almost to the floor, but vehicle was not responding.
Vehicle did not stop at intersection when brakes were applied.the abs sounded as if it had engaged but my wheels did not stop.i had my 2 children in the vehicle and fortunately nothing was coming and therefore no one was hurt or killed.i reviewed the nhtsa website to investigate and found that campaign number 05v379000 covers this problem and that a recall had been issued to remove corrosion from the speed sensors and apply rust inhibitor.i contacted apple chevrolet in york, pa and on 2/28/07, they found the that my wheel speed sensors had excessive rust build up.i was also informed that my vehicle was not included in this recall.i was charged $241.65 for these repairs and i feel that i should not be responsible for this.how can oer 1.3 million vehicles made between 1999 and 2002 be recalled for this same problem and my vehicle is not included?
Abs would intermittently engage itself during normal braking. This condition caused loss of braking or extended stopping distance.vehicle was taken to the dealer, anddealer informed the consumer that they could not duplicate the problem.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe.in an attempt to park the vehicle at 5 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle would not stop.the brakes had to be applied again in order to stop the vehicle.the vehicle was taken to the dealer.the contact discovered nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock), which relates exactly to the failure.the current mileage was 90,000 and failure mileage was 88,000. Minnesota is a "salt" state.the bearing/abs sensor assembly has become "bad" on my 2000 tahoe causing unwanted and unsafe abs activation at slow speeds parking or just before coming to a full stop.the recall should cover minnesota as a state with corrosion impacts.a $35,000 vehicle 5 years old, truck class should not require consumers to pay $578 per wheel to correct an obvious and unsafe design flaw.
2000 chevrolet tahoe brakes failed to stop the vehicle. Upon inspection mechanic determined rear brake shield was rusted all the way out. The consumer discovered a recall on internet, however he was told his vehicle was not included in the recall.
Brake system failure, warped front rotors continuously.
Incident occurred on concrete city street.brakes appeared to fail while braking on uneven road surface.
Dt: the contact states there isnhtsa recall campaign05v379000 concerning anti lock brakes. This vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but itis not included in the recall due to vin.
Anti- lock brakes activate when i am below 10 mph causing near rear end collisions due to excessive stopping distances.
The vehicle continued to movewith the brake pedal to the floor.the abs system appeared to be in operation.the accident stopped vehicle.
Dt: the consumer owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe that has been experiencing a problem with the anti lock brakes.this happens at low speeds.it sometimes feels as though it may not stop the vehicle.the consumer took the vehicle to a dealer for the problem.the consumer found recall 05v379000 about the anti lock brake system.the dealer said there was nothing they could do about it because the consumer did not live in the state in which was affected, but he felt he was having the same safety problem as noted in the recall.the consumer has not contacted gm at this time.no repairs or corrections at this time have been performed at the dealership.
When slowing down to a stop, my chevy tahoe's anti lock brakes randomly kick on and keep my vehicle from coming to a regular stop, my braking distance is varied. My car was extended into intersections numerous times because the abs kicked on. I have had problems in parking lots with other cars because they will kick on.
Exiting freeway brakes were applied at a slow speed , brake pedal pushed back on my foot and vehicle did not stop as if i didn't have any brakes.had to take my foot off the brake and pump them.i was very fortunate that there was no one (car or person) ahead of me.these were abs brakes and at slow speeds they fail.according to a new media there is no recall on my vehicle (2000 tahoe) because we do not live in rust or salt belt.our area does have significant amounts of rain and snow and use of salt on the roads to cause problems with these brakes.it is interesting that when this happens in other states, there is a recall but in wi there is not.apparrently life and limb are not as important as in other states.i will be awaiting your immediate reply by phone, letter, email or fax.thank you in advance.floydj. Michaels.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 5 mph in reverse the anti lock braking system engaged involuntarily.once the vehicle reached a complete stop he was able to continue driving as normal.the failure began to recur intermittently so he took the vehicle to an authorized dealer where he was informed his vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000, service brakes, hydraulic:antilock.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileages were 111,092.
General motors and dealer refuse to recall and fix hydraulic anti-lock brake problem on my 2000 chevrolet tahoe. Recall date was aug 29, 2005.
I heard of a recall on cnn, and investigated it further on your website, campaign id number 05v379000, dated 8/29/05.when i called chevrolet to get this fixed on my vehicle, because i was having the same trouble with the antilock brakes, they informed me this recall did not include the state of utah.my antilock brakes activate quite often at low speeds and cause me to skid, which could very easily cause an accident, but has not yet to date.where the recall is known, i don't understand how this could not include my vehicle when i am experiencing the exact same problems.i have experienced this literally hundreds of times in the last few years.
Gm recall; 05068 states "certain ...vehicles may experience unwanted anti-lock brake system activation. This condition to more likely occur in environmentally corrosive areas.this recall will be launched in the "salt belt" states of..." and excludes mn and wi.this is due to fewer complaints.this is irrelevant since the safety consequence is"this can cause increased stopping distance during low-speed braking applications, which could result in crash."the root cause seems to be salt corrosion and that should determine the location, not "complaints, accidents or fatalities" as i was informed by my call to gm.i have not been given a valid reason why i am safe from this issue because i live in minnesota and use more salt than 50% of the other states on the list.
When making 1 out of 50 to 100 normal brake applications vehicle will not stop. Consumer will press harder which will activate abs. Consumer has taken vehicle to dealer 3 times . Dealer replaced master cylinder, but defect has reoccurred . Tsb had been issued which stated defectwas normal. The consumer experienced a delay in brake reaction on numerous occasions.the problem occurs at speeds of 25-35 mph cause air bag light comes on at times due to internal failure.
The abs brakes activate at very low speeds (1 - 5 mph) on dry surfaces causing the breaking distance to significantly increase.
The brake system does not work appropriately the brake pedal goes to the floor without proper stopping ability with noise, the consumer has taken the vehicle in on four occasions and they say the system is responding as designed, consumer believes the problems is either with the abs system or the master cylinder.*mjs
Dt*:the contact stated the abs activates at low speeds or when the roads are icy or wet.this caused the contact to rear end 2 vehicles.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, regarding the anti-lock brakes.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin.there was no damage to either of the vehicle. Updated 02/27/06.
Dt: the vehicle will stop, but there wasextendedstopping distance. Manufacturer's recall # 05060 was issued.the consumer could hear the abs kick in with extendedstopping distance. Started noticing this problem on august 15, 2005. This usually happened on dry pavement. Contacted the dealer, they said this only applied to the rust belt states.

Brake squel and thumping/vibration, vibration/thumping worse when towing small jetski.latest dealer vist 1/08/02 states that they are unable to duplicate.feel is as though the anti-lock mechanism is deploying prematurly.no computer codes or abs lights during thumping.
Dt: contact states there is nhtsa recall 05v379000 regarding the anti-lock brakes.this vehicle manifeststhe same problemsas indicated in the recall, but is not included in the recall due to the vin.
I have a 2000 tahoe and am having a problem with the abs as described in the recall.gm is telling me it was not included in the recall because of the manufacturing location of my vehicle. This is absurd.i live in an area where road salt is used and winter corrosion is possible.this is a dangerous issue and should include all vehicles regardless of where they were manufactured.how does gm know where the vehicle went after it was purchased, they don't.i almost hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk a few days because the abs came on while i was going very slow.
While pressing on brakesvehicle surges forward.
Intermittently whenbrakes are appliedpedal goes to floor, resulting in extended stopping distance.dealer has inspectedvehicle, and could not duplicate or correct the problem. Manufacturer has been notified.
Dt: the contact stated when the vehicle was being inspected he was informed that the rear rotors were flaking and chipping along the insides.he took the vehicle to a local repair shop.the mechanic replaced the rear rotors. Recall repairs was performed.there have been no further problems since the repair.updated11/29/05.
Upon stopping on slick roads, the antilock system activated and the motor continues to run all day, even after shutting engine off.had to remove the maxi fuse to shut it off.i know of two other gm trucks of the same model and year with the same exact problem.this is not a coincidence.this is a small town and 3 vehicles with the same safety problems in the braking system should be addressed by a recall.
Had to get on my brakes very hard when the abs kicked in then the brake pedal went all the way to floor and the brakes failed causing me to hit another vehicle. It has happened a few times to me, just one accident from it so far.
Dt: the contact stated when applying brake pressure the abs activated followed by a vibration, allowing the pedal to go to the floor.he took the vehicle to a dealer, and they could not duplicate the problem.no repairs were made.there wasnhtsa recall 05v379000 involving the anti lock brakes. The contact's vehiclemanifested the same symptoms as indicated in the recall . However, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe.while depressing the brake pedal and decelerating from 20 mph, the antilock brake system (abs) unexpectedly activates.the failure increased the stopping distance.the vehicle was taken to an auto service center and the contact was informed that the front wheel sensors failed.the dealer stated that his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock).the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage was 79,000 and failure mileage was 77,000. Abs activates at speeds under 10 mph.increase in stopping distances has caused many near miss collisions.
Abs and brake warning light comes on randomly.
I own a 2000 chevy tahoe.for the past 2 years, i experienced occasional problems stopping under 10 mph due to the faulty activation of the abs.on several occasions i barely avoided a dangerous crash.i called art moehn chevrolet in jackson, michigan about the problem and was told i could make an appointment to have the problem repaired.no mention was made of the possible recall.i took the vehicle to art moehn chevrolet in jackson, michigan on april 7, 2006.the problem was repaired at a cost to me of $241.60.i did research on the internet about the abs problem and located a recall for 1999-2002 gm trucks (see nhsta recall campaign number 05v37900).i contacted the dealer and was told that my vin # was not part of the recall.the brake work done on my 2000 tahoe is the exact repair sent to chevy dealers by gm for the recalled vehicles (see gm bulletin # 05068b).i am seeking full reimbursement of my costs for repair under the recall notice.thank you.
There is nhtsa recall campaign 05v379000 concerning the anti lock brakes. This vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to vin.dealers have been telling me that this recall does not cover 2000 tahoe with the old body style (ie. As indicated by the vin).
While driving, the anti-lock brakes engaged without incident and failed to disengage, even when the ignition was turned off and the key was removed, the module continued to run.dealer diagnosed the abs module had failed.
Problems with vehicle's anti-lock brakes every time the consumer went to drive the anti-lock brakes will cut on.while driving the abs brakes engaged and would not disengage although the ignition switch was turned off and the key was removed.the dealer diagnosed the problem as an abs module failure. *mr*nlm

Abs activates at speeds below 7mph while braking. Have almost run into a vehicle and person due to this failure.the tahoe was originally purchased in texas but has been in pa. For 3+ years.my vehicle should have been included in the recall but i was told it was not, doesn't make sense.
Abs and brake warning light comes on randomly.
From the time of ownership there were concerns with the braking system, when pedal is mashed it would go almost to the floor, master cylinder was replaced, but still did not solve problem there was still no pedal, was advised by mechanic that this is the way new vehicles are being made, second occurrence unable to brake, the vehicle he made an awful noise and had run completley off the and hit the dirt bfore stopping.
While driving 40mph, driver applied the brakes and pedal went to the floor. Vehicle did not stop, only slightly slowed down.was informed by dealer, after taking vehicle there, that problem was due to air getting into brake lines and causing a loss of brake fluid.dealer bled brake lines to release the air.dealer found master cylinder low due to pad wear, replaced front pads, cleaned and adjusted rear brakes as well, consumer also added that brake warning light lamp did not illuminate.
While driving brakes started making noise. Had not contact dealer.
The brakes fail under panic stops,. The dealer found nothing wrong, but the consumer states that the brakes were still unsafe.

Dealership is trying to charge me $900.00 to replace rear pads, emergency pad and new rotors. The vehicle was in for inspection at 74504 miles and reported to me that the pads had 50% usage. Now 9 weeks later they tell me that the rotors have a problem of flaking and that caused the unusuall wear to the pads. They mentioned that they have seen this occurence in as little as 11,000 miles. If this is true, there are many vehicles out there that could suffer braking problems without due notice. I wanted to check if this is in fact a problem with these vehicles, or if it is just a "scam" by the dealership to get me to buy new rotors, or if i was misinformed at my last inspection and they are trying to cover up their error.
While traveling about 35mph on a side road vehicle suddenly and abruptly pulledto the right. Vehicle started vibrating.brake caliper had froze. Dealership is aware of the problem.ak
Brake failure 2000 chevro tahoe. Originally believed to be premature engagement of abs system. Found due to "rusted and pitted" rotors that tore apart all four brake pads. Previously (3x) advised dealership of brake problems and told that "everything was o.k.". Service manager advises this is a continious and ongoing complaint and problem with the gm vehicles (premature rusting and pitting of rotors.
Rear brake rotors are comming apart, sections of the rotors are missing.
Brake system failure, warped front rotors continuously.
My friend deputy sgt. Perkins of the garfield county sheriff's office drives a 2000chevy tahoe. As his "office" for up to 18 hours a day. He has had nothing but trouble with it since the county purchased it and assigned it to him. The brake system has failed 4 times since this january alone. Chevy refuses to see the danger with this. Deputy perkins' wife has filed complaints as has danny himself.\with all of us getting the same "it's too old and you are the only ones to say anything about it.

The contact stated that upon inspection, it was found that the brake lines were perforated due to rust. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was confirmed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure.
Have been complaining about soft brakes since the odometer read 18000.the master cylinder was replaced and i have paid for new front brakes twice and was told that the new braking systems did not last as long.dealer told me that is just the way the new cars are.i have taken to an independent brake shop and they told me the car looks like it has 70000+ miles on it when it is less than 2 years old and has 33000 miles on it.it needs a complete brake overhaul and is deemed unsafe to drive.the total cost of the repair will be 1112.96
Consumer's left foot is interfering with the brake pedal due to the location and design of the electrical panel which is bolted to the right underneath the brake pedal, not allowing significant leg and foot room.
The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet tahoe. The contact was driving in a residential driveway approximately 5 mph in reverse when the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was able to resume normal operation after a few minutes. The failure recurred whenever attempting a turn. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised that the power steering pump would need to be replaced. The power steering fluid was drained and replaced but the power steering pump was not replaced. The approximate failure mileage was 115,000. The vin was not available.
Vehicle is a 2000 2wd chevrolet tahoe.vehicle was being backed out of a parking space when a loud bang was heard. After this bang, the steering was very loose and it was hard to control the vehicle. Immediate problem was determined to be 2 of the 3 bolts holding steering box in place had sheared. Chevy dealer has not offered a good explanation for this failure.he keeps stating that the vehicle hit something to cause the bolts to shear. Vehicle is in excellent condition and well maintained.
Steering loses power when turned mostly to the left. Also loses power in left curves and has to be manually steered in the curve to keep from crossing the center lines on the highway. This has become a frequent occurrence as of late.
Intermittently steering wheelwill lock up in the direction it's being turned, driver has to apply brakes to unlock it.the dealership indicated that because the steering column has bushings instead of bearing, thebushing wear out, which causethe problem.please provide more details. Ts

When backing up or driving at very slow speeds and turning, the power steeringwill not work, dealer could not find a problem.. Consumer stated problem usually occurs when the vehicle is sitting still and trying to turn for a parking space, there would be no power assist at that time.
Steering broke loose and caused loss of control. Wife was injured minor but caused huge damage to vehicle. Thankful my kids were not with her and she is o.k.

My 2000 chevrolet tahoe spare tire cable(s) broke on sunday, sept 12.i was traveling less than 40mph coming onto an exit, looked in my rear view mirror and suddenly saw a tire that was not there seconds ago.i pulled to the side, backed up and realize my tire was in the middle of the highway belonged to me.thank god, the person driving the car behind me was able to miss hitting it.monday, september 13, i called chevrolet customer service.i asked if there were similar reports of spare tires coming off from underneath vehicles?i was told by jovi no.'there were no reports of spare tires coming off (i find that difficult to believe when i see the many stories online).my vehicle is 10 years old, (i've owned for 8) it is in great condition, body looks goodand runs well, at that time it had 208k miles.jovi advised that i take to dealership, have them inspect and based on their findings, chevrolet will have to decide if they will assist w/ having it repaired.she gave me a "heads up" that it may be due to the age, and mileage of the vehicle and if so, chevrolet will need to make decision.royal chevrolet service personnel informed me "the cables broke".they were unable to tell me the reason why.jovi contacted the dealership to know their findings she informed me on thursday, september 16, she was told the tire coming off "could" be due to age, mileage and wear and tear, however the vehicle was in good condition and well maintained per the service department.
Opened tailgate glass while vehicle was parked in my driveway and it shifted to left and then the whole top came loose.and this could injury someone.themetal hinges the attach the glass to the vehicle are attached with a plastic or glue of some type that degenerates.if this occurs while diving the glass could detach and pose a safety issue. My understanding is that in 2005 gm redesigned the glass with bolts attaching it.many owners on gm forum have had this problem and it is difficult or impossible to safely fix it.i contacted gm support and they stated that i would have to take to a gm dealer and have fixed at my cost.i feel it should be a safety recall due to poor design.

The window regulator on the passenger side my 2000 tahoe has broke twice. The regulator's cable rusted out the first time. This second time i've just left it alone. I'm just glad it stay stuck in the closed position. My complaint is that i have to buy the whole unit including the motor with the regulator, and its very expensive.my extended warranty only covers the motor not thewindow regulator but 9 time out 10 its going to be regulator, what a scam. When the vehicle was less than two years old therear passenger window went out. The rear passenger doors hinges squeak and grind. I've already had the right rear passenger door hinge replaced, now the left rear passenger door hinge is getting worst. *nlm
I have a 2000 chevy tahoe.recently the rear window glass hinge in the liftgate failed. The glue that connects the glass to the hinge failed and now the rear window is being held in place by only the latch and the other hinge.this is a major safety issue.if the glass were to fall out in the road it would be a major hazard to other motorists.this hinge has failed under normal use conditions and was in no way abused. I just called my local dealer, cox chevrolet in bradenton, fl and they informed me it is not covered under warranty and the cost of a new one is over $1,000.this is a manufacturing defect.i noticed other posts on the internet be persons who had the same failure and did not have the problem corrected by general motors.please advise on any thing that can be done to get gm to address this product flaw.

Driving on clear paved road 30 miles per hour right rear tire suddenly felt flat. We immediately pulled to side of road and found tire completelyflat and ripped open at tread line about half of the full circle of the tire. We changed to spare and immediately drove to firestone retailer in scottsdale and showed him tire. He claimed we had run on it and caused tread seperation. We ran about thirty feet after feeling tire go flat.to pull off road and safely stop on side. I have been driving 50 years and experienced several flats under far worse conditions and never had a tread seperate from the sidewall like this.i would like to send you the tire so that you may see if this is faulty manufacture and if we can get rid of these tires and get some replacement cost. Tires routinely require air to be added. Tires have been replaced and continue to require air be added every few weeks. Have asked the dealer regarding this and was told they were not aware of any issues related to rim leaks or reasons for this. Have noticed this issue on other tahoes.
The tires were checked and inflated to 39 psi before leaving home for the 112 mile trip.on the return trip after approx. This is a problem with the "rear window/door hinge" of my tahoe. There has been a recall for 2003 models which use the identical hinge. My 2000 tahoe has th esame faulty hinge chevrolet/gm used for the rear window and it is broken on the top right. My rear window is hanging on one side and water coming in. The only thing holding the window right now is the left faulty hinge ! i called gm many times to make point that the faulty hinge they used on rear windows in 2003 is the same hinge i got on my vehicle. It is faulty also. Service confirms it but can't do anything until gm says go fix it. I am driving around with a hanging rear window because of faulty gm hinge. Gm knows the hinges are faulty but only agreeing to fix 2003 models. I have been emailing, calling gm and talking to my local service also, just to change the faulty hinge they put on my vehicle, i nedd to buy a whole rear window costing $1,000. Outraged !

I got on hwy 26 at the white rock ballentine exit. I was traveling on 26 when i saw a maurice barbeque truck come onto the highway so i moved over one lane. As the truck was coming onto the highway, at an extremely fast speed, at the lake murray entrance i saw something fly out of his truck. It had to have flown out his window and it hit my windshield and made a crack in it. I immediately tried to honk my horn to get him to pull over. He gave me the finger. So i slowed down went behind him took his plate number down and called maurice's bbq number right away. I unfortunately didn't have time to follow him because i was in the middle of taking my kids to an emergency doctors appointment. I felt i took all the right steps to make sure i reported this properly. I continued to call maurices 3 times a day and left messages and no one responded finally 3 days later a woman called me and told me she sent it to the insurance but they weren't gonna pay for it. The insurance company called me and said the driver said he didn't do anything wrong and because you didn't follow him we wont pay for it. This is so unfair to me as i didn't even get a chance to state my case... I am appalled and disgusted by how maurices bbq handled the situation ... Please let me know if there is anything i can do.

*nlm
Rear windows intermittently would not work and then both failed at the same time.n eeded to replace both motors and regulators.cost of repair exceeded $425.00.apparently there is a service bulletin on this and a known defect like this should be covered by the manufacturer.
The two rear power windows on my 2000 chevy tahoe developed internal intermittent shorts at the exact same time. I have also experienced trouble with the two front power windows not working at times. The dealership stated they have seen prior problems with the power windows in the tahoe's. My vehicle only had 23751 miles on it at the time the back window motors were replaced. I was charged over $400.00 for these repairs. It seems to me the problem with the motors is a factory defect and i shouldn't be held liable for the expense of replacement.
While the van was parked in the driveway with the engine running toddler pokedhead out of the rear passenger side window, and puthand on the door arm rest, where the power window controller switch was located. The window started going up,toddler paniced and pushed down harder on the controller switch, and window continued going up and chocked the toddler.consumer felt that a child proof device should be installed in all of the windows to prevent such incident from occurring.
Vehicle haselectrical doors/windows.window onpassenger side andtwo rear windows will not go down at all.he has contacted the dealership.
Neither one of the electric passenger windows will work. One will work at times and then at other times it will not. The window will not go down or up.this could purpose a problem especially with people with small children. You would have to break a glass to get in the passenger windows if needed. Chevrolet should fix this problem as it is a recurring problem in the tahoe.i would be glad to know they are willing to fix this problem.*la
All of the windows except the driver's window would not roll up or down. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer that the power window motor needed to bereplaced.
While lowering driver's power window a snap occured and the window fell to the bottom. I contacted my local repair center. They informed me that it was a dealer only item. That the entire regulator assembly would have to be replaced. I spoke to the dealership and they informed me they had gone through hundreds! i veiwed the broken item and the steel cable seemed to be a design flaw, allowing water to settle at cable entrance. Why replace the entire regulator $235.91?
Left rear passenger windows intermittently would not operate properly. Dealer was not notified at this time. Please feel free to provide any further details.
Vehicle continued blow fuses/ problems with side view mirrors.*mr
Consumer stated the driver side mirror hits on mirror frame when folded in, and cracked mirror glass, consumer believes the design of the mirror mouting is flawed.*yd

Mirror is mounted so as to cause a blind spot to cross traffic coming from zero to ninety degrees from the drivers seat.
Vehicle was sitting outside in 102 degree weather and consumer's wife went to put some things into the vehicle and glass wasn't broken. Came back 5 minutes later, anddriver's side door window was scattered all over the place. Windows were rolled down about an inch. *ml
While driving in heavy traffic the windshield wipers do not remain in contact with the windshield to adequately clear it, the consumer believes the problem is temperature related because when the vehicle is taken to the dealer in the warm shop and the vehicle is not moving the wipers work fine, possible design flaw.nlm
Windshieldwiper motor circuit board failure.windshield wipers worked only intermittently, then stopped operating totally.after further investigation and troubleshooting, found open circuit in pc board contained in the the wiper motor housing.looks like gm has still not addressed this issue even though their are recalls on earlier vehicles for the same type of failure.
I work replacing tires. I noticed the rims are being gouged on the insides by rubbing on the disc brake housings on tahoes and silverados with 4-wheel disc brakes.some gouges are very deep.
