This was a very heavy front end collision. The visual dammage est. Is 10,000 dollars and still rising they do not have the internal damage est. I called gm and filed a formal complaint. They told me that they were very busy and did not have time to investigate this failure. They also told me that this would cost the to much money to do an investigation. The rep from gm told me that they could tell if the wreck was bad enough by the description of the wreck over the phone with out even seeing the wreck. The dallas fire department, dallas police department, tow truck driver and huffines chevrolet which is a certified chevrolet body shop said that this was way to much damage to the front end and they should have went off. But coprorate gm said that it was not and they could tell that without seeing the vehicle. Gm also told me that the other vehicle in the accident took all the impact, without even seeing the vehicles how would they now this?i still have 10,000 dollars of front end damage tomy vehicle and that is way to much if the other vehicle took all the impact. They repeatedly told me that it was ok that they did not go off because the rest of the saftey equipment worked "i.e. Seatbelts, crumple zones" but that does not change the fact that the airbag system did not work and this would have kept my 7 month pregnant wife from hitting the dash board!if you have any question i will be more than happy to answer them large or small. Thank you!

The vehecle was traveling approx 40 mph when it hit black ice andm slide off the road and hit a big rock on the passenger side front.the passenger side front body and axle was pushed back approx 6 to 8".niether air bag opened passenger or driver. The passenger my wife suffered a broken back.the vehecle was totaled by the insurance.one reason we bought the chevrolet tahoe was because of the duel air bag.i feel that the severity of the accident the air bags should have opened.i have taken pictures and state farm insurance is also investigating the accident for the failed air bags.

While driving my 99 tahoe down a 4 lane road, a drunk had pulled out infront of me. I had slammed on my brakes and swerved to avoid him but still hit him pretty hard in his rear quarter panel. As a result of the accident, i had suffered a double hematoma to my brain and had brain surgery to stay alive. My complaint with my tahoe is 1) my airbag in my steering wheel did not deploy. I think if it did, my injury would have been avoided. 2) i question the stopping ability if my anti dive front brakes. I was on the brakes hard with the vehicle nosing down but i think my stopping distance should have been shorter.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that his pitman arm was recently replaced and the clockspring was fractured and also needed to be replaced. The contact stated that since the pitman arm was replaced, the air bag warning indicator began to illuminate. The contact took the vehicle to maxie price chevrolet atlanta (3600 us-78, loganville, ga 30052, 770466-7000) and nash chevrolet (630 scenic hwy s, lawrenceville, ga 30046, 678-369-3889) and was informed that the parts to replace the clockspring were no longer manufactured. The contact's only option was to find a junk yard that may carry the replacement parts. The manufacturer was not notified and the air bag indicator continued to illuminate. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 191,000.

Took vehicle to have tether anchors installed t child seat. Dealer usedfront tie down brackets afterowner's manual read do not usefront set of tie down brackets to install anchors. Dealer also indicated manual was wrong.

My vehicle had no failure.i am concerned that my 3 year old can far too easily unbuckle himself.i would love to see an item that would prevent him from doing so.

Went to visit inlaws in canada for chrismas, arrived late at nite. Got up in the morning truck will not start, local mechanic diagnosed it as the anti-theft system,{ passlock }he got it running and said i need to go to the nearest dealer to get it reprogrammed be fore it happens again. Next morning was going to dealer it would not start again. Three days latter it finally started. Dealer charged $330 to reprogram {passlock} two days latter when i was going home it would not start again. I haven't got it running yet. Was supposed to be back to work in texas three days latter. I got fired , and i'm still stuck in canada and broke now. Thank you chevrolet!!

1999 chevy tahoe a/c blower motor inoperative. Mechanic traced related electrical circuits.pinpoint immediate problem to faulty a/c control head and burnt connector.this problem was a fire hazard and had to resolved or completely disabled to eliminate the possibility of fire.labor and parts cost $700.00.

Corrected steering problem. Concerned that the design and function of speed sensitive steering on this vehicle could be a safety hazard.the vehicle steering became loose while making right hand turns, 3244 miles.the dealer replaced the speed sensor that controls the speed sensitive steering.the upper brake lamp shorted at 15311 miles.the battery failed load test at 22085 miles.the left front speaker was inoperative at 30715 miles.the mirror switch was hot to the touch at 32291 miles.

Experienced problems during right hand turns where a complete loss of steering feedback occurred. (speed sensitive steering)this was an intermittent problem.the upper lamp shorted, battery failed load test, left front speaker was inoperative, the mirror switch was hot to touch, dome light stayed on and the radio button were hot to touch.the consumer requested reimbursement. *sc

Fuel pump went out on 1999 tahoe. Took to dealer to service under extended warranty. I was told that there is a service bulletin about the wiring harness with a warning that they can be faulty and short out the fuel pump, in which case the new fuel pump would not be covered under warranty unless the wiring harness was replaced. I was also told that there is a recall coming out on this very problem but only for 2000-2003 (or 2004?) tahoes. My concern is that if this is a know problem that happen to thousands upon thousands of 1999 tahoes why aren't the 1999 tahoes being included in the recall that is soon to be released? i was told this by my dealer.

Upon starting the vehicle there was a ticking noise.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer and the dealer said that the manufacturer told them not to touch the vehicle.the reason is unknown.*nlm

I purchased my 1999 chevy tahoe in 2004 with 87,000 miles from original owner. I received all maintenance records from original owner, as well as original dealership price/option sticker.i noticed once over 100,000 miles there was an electrical malfunction or problem, like a power surge anytime the power window buttons are depressed and when i accelerate, there is a surge and when truck slows down or is in park, there is n surge. There is sudden energy! there is also a problem with the dashboard/radio and switch buttons below lights working. They have failed! electrical problems can cause fires and i have noticed it is not my tahoe only with the same existing electrical problems, as i have been looking for a second vehicle, as i have my kids both of driving age and my 1999 tahoe ls is my only vehicle.i feel safe on the road in my tahoe. I love the four wheel drive option, as i live in minnesota and i could not live without it over the winter months! i am also very proud to point out, my tahoe has 343,000+ miles on it and still going strong!!!!i can not afford a new tahoe, as i am on a fixed disability income now, so i am shopping for a 1999 or newer at a reasonable price. I am satisfied with all the years i have driven mine and hope to get many more years out of it. People are amazed when i tell them how many miles are actual miles on my tahoe. I am amazed, as well. :)[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the security warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that it might have been the pass key that failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.

The failure mileage was 187,000.

Suspected defective ignition switch and/or ignition switch passlock securityon or about jan 17 2014 i was traveling about 30 mph when the engine stalled with loss of power steering and brakes.i was able to stop without incident. After 10-15 minutes i was able to restart the vehicle and drive as normal.for several years after driving the ignition key was warm or hot when removed from the switch.in early 2013 the engine would occasionally stall immediately after starting but would restart after waiting 5 to 10 minutes. On jan 14 when at a gas station the engine stalled but i was able to move the car to the curb.after 10-15 minutes i was able to restart and drive normal. * passlock ignition security feature is widely reported to be a cause of these symptoms.

Speedometer not working most of the time, it sticks at 30 mph when traveling 70 mph and fluctuates sometimes it works and sometimes it does not, i have spoke to several mechanics about the problem and no one knows for sure what it could be with out a high dollar fee.i searched online and found there are numerous complaints about the same problem.

Problem: battery acid is leaking from the positive terminal.the acid released falls on pressurized a/c lines and the right front brake lines and fitting connecting the brake hose.this is the second battery to be replaced in my vehicle.this problemwas found in when disconnecting the first battery (3/2001) for charging.acid released from the orginal battery was contained and neutralized immediately.this second instance was not found until, acid was found on the garage floor.extensive corrosion has occured on all metal parts below the battery. Dealers has stated this problem is prelavent in all 1999 chevrolet with continuous head light operation.two gm dealers have stated they are seeing leaking batteries inone or two vehicles per day.the service manager at hallowell chevrolet in clovis, ca, stated that gm has been working on a new battery design to correct the problem for 8 to 10 months.the uncontrolled release toxic substances poses both an environmental and safety hazard.one failed battery may be an expected probability, although the prevalence of the numbers scene at two dealers and two instances in my vehicle, warrant and require governmental action and oversight. The leaking acid is affecting the integrity of the air conditioning system (not a seafety problem, ulness the escaping r-134/

Truck was taken in repeatedly for brakes, transmission, air conditioner and headlights prior to warranty expiration and was told they could not duplicate the problem or it was under "chev specs" or we were experiencing anti-lock brakes.water pump began leaking and had to be replaced 2200 miles outside of warranty.entire brake system, lines-calipers, everything had to be replaced because "foreign fluid corroded" the system.no one has touched the brakes but the dealer.we repeatedly complained about the brakes taking too long to stop the vehicle, having a spongy feel and absolutely no confidence that they would stop in an emergency situation.overall, the brakes just did not feel safe and we reported this when the vehicle was still under warranty.intake manifold is leaking and needs to be replaced.battery exploded and leaked battery acid everywhere damaging other engine parts.transmission is in need of an overhaul/replacement either as a direct result of the battery exploding or mere coincidence considering we have always complained that something was wrong with the transmission and you could push the truck while in park a fullfoot.the air conditioner has always leaked after driving approx. 2 hr as well as the driver's side high beam headlight always has water in it.detailed complaints have been filed with the attorney generals of az and fl, as well as copies sent to the dealer, manufacturer and leasing company involved. Chevrolet should be ashamed of the shoddy product that rolled off their assembly line and the manner in which they conduct business surrounding consumer complaints generated as a direct result from poor workmanship at one of their factories.there is a long list of "cosmetic" defects as well.for instance, the custom leather seats that we paid extra for are wearing holes in them; the driver's side door handle is cracked, drink holders are rusting, and the list goes on and on.

Battery post broke loose from battery and battery acid leaked from battery onto frame members and electrical wire harness dirfectly below battery with considerable corrosion to insulation.dealer replaced defective battery under warranty with same battery model, but accnowledged that gm had redesign a new battery (plantinum) due to heat and virbration problems from 1995 to current on truck and suv's.dealer said that gm had not recall on existing batteryies or any policy to replace at owner request the old defective designed batteries with the new redesigned plantinum model. Dealer inc ca, , in montana and aaa acknowleged that these batteries are failing in large quanties.i filled a formal complaint with gm customer service on faillure of gm to recall and to offer new model battery to owners with failues....today no response on corrective action received for gm.gm magaizne article also wrote on new improved delco plantinum battery's improved design for both heat and affects of vibration.failure of battery appearently is cause by gm having added the second battery cable to the positive post which fails under normal road vibration due to the extra stress on the post assembly.our dealer did not repair the damage to the frame protective coatings or the wiring harness.

Ac delco battery leakage twice in the last two years.both as a result of acid leak from the positive terminal.

Battery acid leaks from positive post, causing corrosion in brake line.

The positive terminal on the original delco battery broke off, leaking acid down the wheel well onto the right front brake lines and the abs electrical connector to the right front brake.the acid corroded the brake line, electrical connector, and removed the paint on the frame and lower a-frame.the failure occured in our driveway and the vehicle was disabled.had to buy a new battery and 2 cans of battery acid cleaner to remove the acid in the right side engine compartment and lower frame assembly.the brake problem occured as my wife was driving home.she said that the steering was shaking and rumbling.it was pulling to one side.i found the left front caliper had seized in the cradle assembly and worn the outer pad to less than a tenth of an inch.she said it had been squealing for a couple of days.the right side was ok, but, i changed all front pads any how.i had to clean rust from the caliper and mount to allow movement in the assembly.i still have the bad battery and the brake pads.

The battery positive leaked onto the brake line which in turn ate through the brake line and a loss of brake fluid and brakes without warning happened.i was traveling at 40mph when went to apply the brakes and they went slowly to the floor as i was stopping and then dropped to floor and i went thru the middle of a intersection (i thank god that traffic was light).i see that in this data base that this is common problem and i can't believe that this is not a recall.how many people have to be hurt of killed before gmc does something about this.i have purchased 8 new gm vehicles in the last 10 years and if this is the way they are going to treat customers, i will not buy another.needless to say the vehicle will be for sale as soon as it is fixed and another brand will be considered.

The battery in my 1999 tahoe has started leaking from the postive post and has done $ 480 damage to the cables and starter motor.the service rep said that it had been leaking for a while.i had it in for service just 10 days before, and nothen was said about a leak. Reailable said that the battery is a 6 yr. Battery, but when it is put into a new vehicle the warrenty is for 3 yrs or 36,000 miles.he said that delco has a problem with their side post batterys and they are changing out a lot of them, but because i have over 36,000 miles, i will have to pay for my work.when i bought the vehicle, i was told that it would not need a tune up for 100,000 miles and it has a maintance free battery.here it is 28 months later and only 59,000 miles and the battery has done $480.00 of damage, and i find out it is happing a lot with delco batterys.this can be a hazard, because the acid gets on driveways and kids play there.when i bought the vehicle, i ask fro a gm extented warrenty.i paid $540.00 for this and now i find out that i got some other warrenty, not the gm one and it doesn't cover batterys.what is the consumer suppose to do.i have had the regular maintance require by gm done at reliable and only 10 days eariler it was in their shop for oil change and greased and i was not notified of this damage.any help you can give me will be appreciated.to make thing worse, i was charged $34.95 by reliable to run a diagnosis test to determine the battery was leaking from the post.the service rep raised the hood when i carried it in and said it is leaking from the post, this is a problem with delco batterys.i don't see why a test was then ran.

Second time the positive terminal from an delco battery has leaked causing the battery cables to melt.acid leaks have caused rusting on the frame and near brake and a/c lines

Additional components replaced, these included:alternator replaced twiced, battery replaced, injectors pluggingtreated three times, tail shaft leaking - replaced, intake manifold replaced, stereo replaced, tall lamp circuit board replaced (both, intrument cluster replaced twice - unsure in current mileage readings are correct, head lamps continue to flicker whil edriving replaced three times, water pump replaced, ball joints replaced, and sterring components replaced.continual problems and no answers.

Vehicle was parked in front ofconsumer'shouse.she got inside ofvehicle and attempted to start it up, butvehicle would not start.her husband opened the hood, and battery had exploded, and leakedbattery acidall over the vehicle.

Battery leak.caused positive post to corrode/disconnect.truck is only 1 year old, with less that 15,000 miles.battery acid all over engine and hoses.

Ac delco battery leakagae.second time

Battery has leaked acid ontobrake line, causing allfluid to leak, amd a loss of braking power. Deaelr has been contacted.the battery acid corroded the brake line.

Engine died while driving in st louis traffic approx 2 pm- traffic was light butif this occurred 10 mins earlier would have been on i 170 or 30 mins later on i 270 deal :er says :loose battery connection: sounds like a :loose" explanation to me as i did have warning flashers when ocurred. Am i driving a time bomb??

Vehicle starting/ ignition problem. *nlm

Vehicle has a no start condition which will persist for 1 to 4 hours.vehicle will start and then immediately die. It appears to have something to do with humidity or damp weather. Several repair shops have ran diagnostics and reveal a theft deterrent code which comes up on computer. The vehicle has been in for repairs at least 10 times to different shops for the same problem with no results. It is currently at the shop and has been there for over two weeks. This problem has occurred at least 30 times in the last 3 years .my towing insurance is rising and my patience is thin.i am at wits end, help please.

The distributor cap and the housing that holds itis made out of plastic. When cap was tightened it cracked the housing without excessive force being used.

We would drive the tahoe up north around 150 miles park the tahoe camp for 2 days not using the tahoe during the 2 days pack up to go home and the tahoe won't start it turns over trying to start but does'nt it's getting gas, 3hours later the tahoe will start, this also happened about 5weeks ago,we had it hauled to a dealer ,they whet to put it on a scope to check it but the tahoe started, when it's working the scope check shows nothing wrong with the tahoe, ??????

My 1999 chevrolet tahoe intermittently fails to start.the engine cranks and then dies.it will do this, then i will let it sit for a while (45 min. To several hours) and i'll go back out and it will start right up.mechanics have told me there's nothing that can be done until it does it consistently.on 8/19/04, i tried to start it @ 7:45 a.m.it took me until 8:25 a.m. To start it, after which i drove to work (late).i went back out to leave the office @ 10:30 a.m. - no start.had it towed to dealership - started right up.according to the bcm, a code of dtc1626 showed up, which indicates something like the theft deterrent system is preventing the fuel enable signal from being received.the dealership soldered the wiring connections on the theft deterrent harness (previously, connections were crimped), which they said had helped several other tahoe owners.two days later, my husband was stranded with my non-starting tahoe and my receipt for $161.84 for "fixing" the problem.there has to be a fix for this problem!!there are at least 6 other similar complaints on this website as well as 4 service bulletins, but no one seems to have a clue as to why this is happening or how to prevent it!i've owned 2 silverados and 1 yukon since 1984 and have been extremely happy with gm's products, but this tahoe takes the cake!if it hadn't been an anniversary gift from my husband, i would have sold it by now!

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that when starting the vehicle, the engine would only remain on for a few seconds before stalling. The security warning light was illuminated and the vehicle would reset independently. The failure would only occur in colder weather and the contact stated he had experienced the failure at least ten times.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer and was not repaired. The contact replaced the battery in the vehicle but the failure persisted. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.

Consumer stated thatignition anti-theft controller was defective. When starting it will not crank, and consumer needed to wait at least 20 or 30 minutes before the problem with the ignition will work. Consumertowedvehicle to the dealer at least 5 times.while atdealersthe modulator was changed, and the problem will be corrected, but only temporarily. Currently, the problem recurred.

I have owned a 1999 chevrolet tahoe for a little over 2 years.on at least 6 occasions, the vehicle won't crank up.the engine doesn't even turn over as if to crank, but if you wait 1 to 12 hours, it will crank right up.the engine decides how long it will take to reset itself and allow us to crank it.we asked a friend who is a chevrolet mechanic about the possible cause of this problem.he said that it was a common problem with tahoes of that year.he said that the vehicle alarm system thinks that it has been broken into, and tries to protect itself from theft and won't crank.on none of the occasions that it has disabled itself have we had the alarm system disrupted.our mechanic friend says he has seen it several times, but the chevrolet company says that they never heard of this problem.it costs several hundred dollars to fix the problem, therefore i live with it every day.on a recent vacation to the mountains, i was afraid to turn the vehicle off when we got out of it to take pictures for fear that it wouldn't start back up.is there any information on this problem?have you heard it before?

When starting vehicle it starts sometimes, and sometimes has towait 1 to 4 hours before it starts. Contacted dealer. Keys were not programmed for car. Reprogrammed vehicle, problem reoccurred 1 year later.

Ignition switch is unable to be switched off due to an electrical short in steering column. Vehicle at dealer for repairs. Feel free to provide any further information.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that the plastic under the ignition switch was melting without warning. The contact also stated that the wires began to melt. The vehicle was taken to an independent dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch assembly failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 218,000.

The brake lights on the vehicle failed because a wire in the system burned out. There is no current recall for this harness but the replacement part is of heavier gauge wire. The circuit is fused but the fuse was stronger than the circuit it is supposed to protect. I think that in some cases this could be a fire hazard and in any case the loss of brake lights is certainly dangerous.

Fire in drivers sidr door area-defective circuits not fused.

Failure of the electrical wiring in the door caused a fire in the passenger compartment, claim 05-4614-070.

Fuse in fuel pump circuit blew, shutting down engine. Problem caused by internal wiring to fuel pump in fuel tank shorting together. Fuel pump replaced and old pump discarded. Recently read in washington post that this may be a common problem in gm products.

My 1999 tahoe caught on fire at the remote mirror switch in the driver door, burned all around the mirror switch, i was able to use a fire extinguisher and get the fire out.i noticed there was a recall for a specific problem with a mirror switch, but not with tahoes, just chevrolet trucks, suburbans.gm refuses to accept any blame for this faulty switch, and insist it happened due to high miles.they want to pass the buck; however, i don't buy it.my tahoe was manufactured in sept. 1998 and the other vehicles were 1997 - 1998 models.i think it could be possible that my tahoe received one of the faulty mirror switches.i would like for it to be checked out more thoroughly.i would like to know how many other people have had a problem of this nature.

Fuse burned out and there was no turn signals.dealership changed the fuse.they didn't know what the problemwas.

1999 chevrolet 4x4 2 door tahoe, corrosion and shorting of pin connections in high/low beam headlight dimmer switch.on going problem for 3 mo. Of headlight failure when operating at night. Found switch on steering assembly to have corrosion and indication of wires overheating due to excess heat.turned on headlights and move connector wires at switch, headlights failed.headlights also fail when steering column is tilted.problem is due to poor contact of pin connections at switch due to corrotion in connection possible poor construction of connector.arcing can be heard when connection on switch is moved.this is a very well maintained vehicle driven by my wife.i am a federal government employee with 30 years experince in automotive and equipment inspection, repair and rebuild with extensive knowledge in diognostics and use of tmde.

Dt*: the contact stated the air conditioning and heater fan switch, connector plug and attached insulation to the wiring overheated and melted, while traveling 55 mph.the service dealer and manufacturer were notified.

Pinion bearing failed at less than 2000 miles.drivers side door mis-aligned.bad seals at connections for tranmission coolin glines.clunk when accel. From stop and shifting hard.reoccurring noise in passenger side dashboard.reoccurring fan type noise under hood.reoccurring failure of exhaust gaskets.

350 cid engine threw rod at 69,000 miles.replaced with new mr goodwrench engine.new engine stops mysteriously on highway after about 300 miles.restarts easily before it coasts to a stop.one time it had to sit nearly half an hour before restarting.dealer cannot fix the problem.

The consumer was unable to roll up the rear powered windows. The engine warning light also illuminated while vehicle was being operated. The cause was not determined. Please provide more information.

I brought my 1999 chevrolet tahoe to alexandria buick-pontiac-gmc in alexandria, virginia on december 14, 2005 because the abs light kept coming on in the dashboard. Mechanic diagnosis was speed sensors were missing. He replaced the hub assemblies and speed sensors. Total repair was $1064.54. I then found out that a recall on the problem i had just repaired was going on in the "rust belt" states and canada. The recall was for the whole northeast part of the country down to and including washington dc. I work in washington and live about 5 miles from the city. I wrote the gm claims department with copies of every receipt and a copy of the recall letter. They contacted me and told me the repair was indeed one included within the recall, but they were denying the claim because i live in virginia and the recall is only valid in "salt belt" states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, maryland, massachusetts, maine, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia, wisconsin and the district of columbia. I want the recall to be opened back up and to include additional states.i spend every single day in washington, what makes my claim any different from the person that lives 5 miles away from me, but happens to live across the state border? what is different from someone who lives in washington and works in virginia? since my home address was virginia, my claim was denied. The recall campaign # is 05v379000.the engine light illuminated, the serpentine belt was repalced. The water pump was leaking abd the pinion seal was replaced. Updated 02/09/06.

The air conditioner lines on my 1999 chevy tahoe started to leak and gm has told me throughout the summer that the part needed (part #15010337) is on backorder. This has been a hot summer, and with young children and aging adults, this is not just unaccepatble, but dangerous.

Smells of antifreeze in cab.took to mechanic, intake manifold gasket must be replaced.this is due to bad part installed.this is a known problem with gmc.

Continuously having to fill with coolant due to leak. No leak from hoses etc. The problem comes from a defect in heads that are produced by castech. Went on line to research this and found numerouscomplaints about this and gm/chevrolet will not fix. Extended warranty companies will not fix because it is a defective part. Dealerships will not talk about it but if you talk to an mechanic at a dealership and describe the problem they are quick to tell you exactly what it is and that it is a defect. The coolant seeps through the poorly manufactured castech heads. Called some of the local mechanics and they are saying the same thing-defective part. Now like i said i have checked on line and hundreds or more people are having this problem and are having to have the heads replaced and engines at out of pocket. I did not see where a lot of people are complaining on this site because like me they did not know where to go. I found out from a lawyer who also had this problem to complain on this site. He just simply got rid of his tahoe.one said they were stuck on the side of the interstate with young kids and no phone and no way of affording to getting home from out of town. Now that is bad.

The heater hose is attached at the intake manifold with a quick-connect fitting that is made of pot metal.when this fails (and it is inevitable due to the type of metal used) the engine loses all coolant and leaves you stranded.there is no "quick repair" for this failure.older engines had a connector into the intake manifold made of steel or brass which was more reliable and usually did not break off flush with the manifold.nlm

The engine stalled and the fuel injectors have been replaced twice.please provide further details.*nlm

Engine just stops running without warning or symptoms as if the key were turned off. Starts again without problem.. No warning lights on dash except battery symbol at time of stall. Could be fatal if passing on 2 lane.. Extremely dangerous on freeway. Countless hours trying to locate problem to no avail... I traded the car. Unsafe to drive.. Worried it will be sold without being fixed.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving the abs activated, causing the contact' to lose control of the vehicle. The contact applied pressure to the brakes twice before the vehicle stopped. After the first incident there was extended stopping distance at low speeds. The dealership determined there was corrosion on the abs sensors.the abs sensors were cleaned in december of 2004.the abs problemrecurred, and outdoor temperatures decreased.the serpentine belt was replaced. Air conditioning manifold hose is broken on 1999 chevrolet tahoe - extended warranty does not cover replacement.according to two mechanics contacted - they are apparently a frequent repair made on this vehicle.one of the two mechanics spoken to was in the process of repairing the very same item at the time of the phone call.

There is a popping sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The dealer determined that the plastic fuel tank is expandable and causes this popping sound. Nlmdealer remedied problem and found the exhaust system to be the problem.

My husband and i were in route one evening when the check engine light came on. Following the manual's instructions: check the coolant gages, it had a reading of nearly 260.we pulled over at the next exit, into the parking lot of a gas station.we checked the coolant recovery tank, it was empty.inspected the engine fan, it was operating normally.waited 1 1/2 hrs to let engine cool down.removed radiator cap.radiator was dry.i asked the gas station for the recommendedbrand 'dex-cool'.fortunately, they didn't carry that brand.(the reports i've read today, indicate brand dex-cool coolant is the #1 cause in gasket corrosions, it eats plastic.added a 50/50 coolant and arrived home without further incident.the following morning i took my vehicle to a reputable mechanic.after giving him a very brief description of what we'd experienced the evening prior, he immediately stopped me in mid-sentence and said "vickie, you don't even have to finish telling me.i know exactly what the problem is.it's common for this engine in chevy's from 1996 - 1999 to leak coolant from the intake manifold near the rear firewall"he went on to say, that their service center has had many customers come in with the same complaint frequently.he estimated the cost to replace the intake manifold gasket is between $250 - $300.if this is such a common problem, then gm should not only be required to notify the owners, but should assist in the cost to replace the defective gaskets.the mechanic also stated, if the fluid enters the engine, which could very well happen, then the engine would lock-up.this is a safety issue, and can easily be prevented.need there be a fatality before gm voluntarily notifies the owners and rectify this problem?i demand that gm inform current owners of this problem, reimburse owners who've already paid to have their vehicles repaired, and finally, stop recommending the use of dex-cool brand coolant in the owners manual!!!

1999 series chevrolet tahoes (several years before and after) have a serious wiring safety issue.failure of the turn signal / emergency flasher switch can result in total loss of brake lights under all conditions with no indication failure has occurred.brake lights required to work at all times, even when car ignition is off.yet because chevrolet has "looped" the brake light wiring "through" this switch, failure in the switch function for emergency flashers, results in total brake light failure, even with car turned off, yet the turn signals continue to function and drivers are unaware of the failure.unfortunately, the local dealer also wants over $445 for the switch and $175 labor to change it out.this results in a very unfair charge to the consumer of over $600 to fix a malfunction that must be repaired for safety reasons, when a simple wiring change in design would prevent such an old "christmas tree light failure effect" completely.gm should be forced to recall such vehicles and make an alternate change in wiring to protect the brake lights from such failure.

When driving the vehicle there is a fuel leakage, and when stopping and taking off, consumeris not getting enough power when driving. Vehicle has been in the shop four times, and the dealer fixed the problem. But the promblem returned.

Bought from new 99 tahoe. Has had 2 runaway over speed events. The 2nd was yesterday. It has been having also, loss of power at time when first starting off. It goes away quickly, usually in few seconds. Hear at least one exhaust popping noise during event. Never looses power during long highway travel. Both times the runaway acceleration was after a hard acceleration. Goes into bauck ( loss of power) & then into full acceleration!last runaway required 3 key off shutdowns to relieve. Neutral caused it to rev to 5000 rpm. Brakes seem to control run away a bit at 40mph, but not down hill! we never use cruise control & it was in off position. Hard to steer of course with engine off at 40+ mph! suspect fuel injection system. Was in drive position at occurrence. First occurrence was about a month previous. It was controlled by full braking stop then. It was then only at slow speed to start. A less experienced driver on the steep hill i came up on during run away could have been killed into trees on side of hill. Ex nasa engr with only carburetor knowledge!

Intake manifold leaks coolant at front and rear.talked to technicans and was told this is a problem that they do these all the time.they had two in the shop the morning that i was talking to them.i asked if the replacements would solve the problem and was told that they would last long enough for the vehicle to get out of warranty. I have two gm vehicle with the same problem one in warranty and one out of warranty. Ugh.

Regarding your defect investigation peo4042 fuel system, gasoline delivery, fuel pump, 2000 - 2001 chevrolet suburban:complaint that fuel pump wiring overheats, resulting in engine stall and fuel leakage from the top of the tank:fyi, this is a common problem with all 1996 and newer chevrolet / gmc gasoline engine trucks, all of which have the vortec engine series.this engine requires high fuel pump pressure (55 - 60 psi), which requires high electrical current for the pump, particularly under conditions of high fuel demand, such as towing (the circuit has a 20 amp fuse).possible root causes of the problem may be:(1) inadequate wire gauge to the pump, causing a voltage drop and consequently high current draw; (2) high resistance at the fuel pump connector; (3) restricted fuel filter; (4) running the tank low on fuel; (5) increased frictional drag in the pump with high mileage. Unfortunately, there is no recommended "fix" other than to change the fuel filter often, keep the tank over 1/2 full, and replace the fuel pump every 30,000 miles ($600 repair at a gm dealer).i became aware of the problem when the fuel pump fuse blew in my 1999 tahoe at 33,000 miles, stranding us in a remote part of montana.the cause was shorted wires at the fuel pump, requiring replacement of the pump. A search of the chevy truck owner's website (google) will show many owner complaints and suggested fixes for the problem.

While driving at 70 mph vehicle stalled in the middle of the highway. Dealer examined the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump was defective.

Fuel pump failed on the highway, causing the vehicle to stop without warning.mileage was only 33,100 at the time.i have searched a chevrolet truck owners website (google alt.trucks.chevy - advanced search:fuel pump) and found many reports of fuel pump and/or fuel pump fuse failure in 1996-2001 chevy trucks.the typical failure seems to be melting of wires inside the pump, causing internal shorting, which was the failure in my vehicle.failures were reported typically at 30,000-75,000 miles.failure can be intermittant and difficult to diagnose.an additional cause of fuel pump fuse blowing is shorting of the oil pressure switch, which is in the fuel pump circuit.repair was covered under my gm extended warranty, but would have otherwise cost approximately $700.

Vehicle was parked in garage & owner noticed fuel leaking from fuel pump. Took vehicle to dealership & was informed by mechanic that top of fuel pump's electrical connector was causing the leakage.fuel leakage problem is repairable.

Vehicle stalled out due to a fire started by the fuel pump, which burnt through the gas tank. Wire going to fuel pump shorted out on frame causing fire resulting in damage to the vehicle.

On 2-11-03, the california epa announced that general motors has been required to extend the fuel injector warranty on '96-'01 model year light trucks, suvs, trucks & vans to 10 years/200,000 miles. "malfunctioning fuel injection systems (scpi) cause significant increases in air pollution". Gm will fix the problem at no cost to the vehicle owners. The fuel systems were replaced with the new mfi units. Gm settled with the california epa to avoid a threat of a nationwide recall. I own a vehicle that falls into this category but do not live in california. I contacted local dealerships as well as the chevrolet customer care center for assistance and was told that only vehicles in california were eligible to be repaired.all affected vehicles manufactured by gm with the defective scpi fuel system should be treated in the same manner as this is not only an issue for vehicles driven in california. The fuel injector (oem part number 17091432). Replacing plugs, wires, distributor cap & rotor, cleaning injector & induction systems does not eliminate the basic problem which is a defective scpi fuel system.see url (http://www.arb.ca.gov/newsrel/nr021103.htm) for specifics.

Consumer states that the fuel tank leaks at the top of the tank.mr

The gas tank rusts out around where the fuel pump is attached to the gas tank due to lack of drainage and precipitating the failure of the fuel pump. Just in my circle of friends who own chevrolets all have had the same incident happen. Poor design by manufacturer. Fuel could also leak from this type of failure.

Is the nhtsa recall campaign 05v155000 (chevrolet suburban 2000-2001 fuel pump failure) going to be expanded to other gm trucks?my 1999 tahoe had the exact failure described in this recall, and i expect it will fail again.if the recall will be restricted to the 2000-2001 suburbans, i will perform my own modification to my tahoe's pump (i will bypass the internal pump connector and solder the wires).however, if the recall will be expanded to the 1999 tahoe in the near future, i would rather have the official gm fix applied.

Fuel pump wiring failed causing fuel pump to burn up. Obvious issue as gm now includes replacement wiring with replacement fuel pumps. Safety issue for the following reasons, any wiring failure in proximity to the fuel tank could cause a fire, failure of the wiring resulting in failure of the fuel pump leaves the vehicle immediately stranded, whether on a high speed freeway, in local traffic, in a an unsafe area or sitting in your driveway. There is no symptom so that preventive maintenance can be performed.

Consumer was backing outof driveway, and brakes had to be pumped to stop a little. There was brake fluid on the ground.emergency brake was not working, as well.dealer found alot of battery acid that badly corrored both brake lines. Dealer was suppose to clean away the rust, but it was still was there.

I submitted a list of problems on this vehicle to you several days ago, this is a new one, it just keeps falling apart what a lemon. No safety defect listed in the summary.

When the gas pedal is released the car continues at current speed for 5 to 8 seconds before decelerating.the tachometer reading does not drop during this time. This happens at highway speeds and driving around town speeds.it's scary.it will decelerate and the tachometer reading drop when the brakes are applied, but i'm never sure.

While driving with my family in the car and without warning, the car stopped moving. In the middle of an intersection it was as if it was in neutral. This was terrifying, then all of a sudden it felt like i was hit from behind and the car popped into gear and shot forward. I now have no reverse and unsure which gears might work, as i immediately got it home. I am a disabled veteran on a limited income and no am facing possibly huge expenses for transmission repairs that i now have read have been complaints on my car for years! i can't understand how gm/chevrolet doesn't see transmission issues as a safety problem. This transmission has had way too many complaints. Having no warning and the inability to be able to move the car in an intersection could have been catastrophic!! alos when calling a local dealership they should be better informed about any tsb's as to inform consumers. I just thank god my family is safe, however am now out of a car. Thanks general motors/chevrolet, looks like youre losing another loyal customer.

Windshield wipers, junk, transmission junk, transfer case junk and rear end junk.had the exact same problems with 1997 4x4 suburban, know many people having same problems now. There should be some type of recall or service bulletin. These problems have existed for years. May start buying foreign at least they stand by what they build. Must we wait until people are injured.

Clunk in rear suspension when starting after a full stop.dealer has lubricated driveshaft yoke, replaced u-joints.i lubricated driveshaft yoke myself, found it well-lubed, not the problem.noone knows how tom fix it.

Transmission on 1999 chevy tahoe i took to elliott chevrolet3 days after i purchased it. Was told that their was not a recall but i was informed by an employee that there was on some part and it was covered. I could not get the dealer to cover this. *ph

While driving the automatic transmission didn't shiftfrom the first to the second gear properly.*nlm

Vehicle started surging while going down the road, also hard shift between 1st and 2nd gears.also have wiper problems.

Whenever shifting from drive or park into reverse, the light would indicate it's in reverse, but actually it was not in reverse. Took vehicle to dealer to check. Dealer was able to dupliate problems, but no corrective action was identified to date.

While driving between 55 and 75 mph and when vehicle is shifting into overdriveentire vehicle severely vibrates, cause unknown.dealer replaced the transmission and the driveshaft along with other parts which did not correct theproblem.please give any furthr details.

After several trips to the dealership to have the problem connected to the transmission fixed, the dealership finally replaced the entire transmission. The problem presented itself when after the truck was going, when i had to stop for a light, stop sign or whatever, i would then engage the gas pedal. The truck would only inch away, when my foot was completely down on the gas. The sideview mirror on the passenger side shattered for no apparent reason, while driving on an open road. When i took the truck in to have it fixed, i was told the entire brake system would have to be replaced. The master cylinder was leaking and the shoes and pads were gone. Now my truck is currently going back to the dealership because there is a knocking noise in the steering wheel column and a buzzing noise when the fan is turned on for heat.

The consumer complained about six month ago about problems with the transmission.the dealer replaced the torque converter, six month later, the transmission failed while driving 40 mph.the dealer rebuilt the automatic transmissions at the owner expense.the transmission was completely rebuilt and had been serviced prior to purchase which included a transmission flush.the vehicle leaked fluid, found front pump leaking due to the bearing failure(both were removed and replaced), when the vehicle would get warm, a loud rattling noise would be heard, the a/c would get warm, the fan would stop blowing(fond terminal burnt/wiring repaired), the transmission slipped upon acceleration(found the input carrier bearing coming apart and metal throughout/the transmission was completely reconditioned). *sc

Vehicle is pulling, feels like cruise control is on.when at 35mphvehicle goes a mile before it kicks into another gear. Will make an appointment at the dealer.

While driving about 30 mphtransmission went out, no prior warning, mileage at the time was 27000. *al

Just driving down the highway and car just stopped going after several attempts i got the vehicle to go into gear and drove to dealer the vehicle was working fine and the was no indication of pending transmission failure. Have to put in new transmission this is the second one in this vehicle that has 119,900 on it.

Consumer attempted to put vehicle in reverse, the vehicle strongly resisted any movement, consumer realized that some how the 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive were engaged and at no time were either turned on, vehicle was towed to dealer and no problem was found, these failures could possibly be due to a faulty transmission control module.

When driving to work in the morning i came to a stop light a couple of blocks from my house and when i came to a stop the 99 tahoe lurched forward a couple of times and then stopped. I had to hold the brake down hard to keep from hitting the car in front of me. After that light the automoble worked fine. After work the same thing happened on the way home. This happens every morning and afternoon or when the car sits for a long period of time. The dealer had a hard time finding the problem but what he came up with was that the wiring harness inside the transmission had shorted out causeing the pcm modual to burn up. They didn't seem to think it was a safty hazard. The car is in the dealer now getting the wire harness and the pcm modual replaced and reprogramed. I cannot find any recall notices for this problem. I asked for the old parts to be returned to me.i will pick the car up today 09/01/04 with the bill at over a thousand dollars.

While driving at any speed and coming to astop, their is a banging noise and too much play within the transfer case, and within the slip yoke of the transfer case, it binds.

Transmission stuck in 3rd gear.upon dealer diagnosis they found transmission harness chafed within the transmission housing.this component is not exposed to outside elements.because it is wiring with no exposure, the insulation on the wire should not deteriorate unless subjected to extreme high temperatures or rubbing.

While towing a travel trailer well within the tahoe limits, the tahoe broke down at 13,800 miles on 5/10/99 with rear end problems, itwas repaired. Broke down again at 14,531 miles on 5/14/99 it was in the shop until 5/21/99 with rear end problems, then repaired. Then it broke down again at 15,319 miles on 5/29/00 repaired by the dealer each time. We were told it would not happen again. We went on vacation this year and got back home. We heard a noisefrom the back area. We took it in and they said it was the rear end , we were at 33,915 mileson 8/17/00, they however would not repair it even though we are still under warranty (3 years or 36,000 miles).we had to authorize and pay for the repair to be completed, and under protest we did. We had to go have the trailer and tahoe weighed and get a certificate to show we were not overweight.we did and were within towing requirements.we have all the required and proper weight distrubution hitch assembly. We have all our work orders if needed for futher inspection. This problem could have or may result in a serious accident in the future.

Differential failed and both axles came out from under the vehiclewhile travelling at approximately 30mph.

All of the gearingshad to be replaced two times. First replacement was at 10000 miles.dealership has advised thatproblem existed becauseweight limit was exceeded.consumer was not exceeding weight limit.right rear axle seal and another seal on drive shaft failed.

Vehicle shudders when braking from high speeds, and pulls to the side when braking from low speeds, vehicle was inspected and it was determined that the right front hub leaked grease on the pad and brake drum rendering the brakes useless, the cause was a seal leaking, four months later consumer experienced problems again, mechanic found that both rear axle seals had leaked grease/oil on both rear brakes rendering then useless and causing excessive wear on the front brakes, consumer requested that the rear axle be replaced entirely which would probably eliminate the brake failure, however dealer stated that they only replaced the axle seals.

Exhaust pipe fell off while driving.pipe has been repaired by dealer several times and continues to fall off.consumer is concerned about exhaust fumes when operating vehicle.also, vehicle will stall intermittently while driving.the clutch assembly was also replaced.the engine stalls intermittently.there is a noise emmiting from the fuel pump.*jg

I have been trying to get the truck repaired by numerous dealers since the day we bought it. The truck had 823 miles on it when we bought it "new"later on found out it was a "demo". Arbitration did nothing. We still have the shaking truck. Out of despiration from the vehicle shaking violently, causing me to pass bloody stools, i decided to replace the differential myself. It seems to have cured the problem. Now that the differential is out, i can see that it is bent and the axles crystalizing due to the violent shaking. Chevrolet dealers now say that i have "voided" my 3 yr 36,000 mile warranty. Several chevrolet service consultants rude and threatening to hang up on me. I did have a very good service consultant whom i have spoken to lately who was shocked at my ordeal and agrees with me that this is a safety issue. I am now trying to get reimbursed for my out-of-pocket expenses on my "warrantied" vehicle. I do not wish to be reimbursed for my time, diagnosing and repairing this truck, but perhaps the problem should be aknowledged by chevrolet and somehow reimbursed by them. If i had not changed the differential myself, i feel that it surely would have caused a major accident and deaths due to the failure of chevrolet not taking care of this. I feel that before we bought this truck, someone really romped it through the desert. It had really large tires on it that we had the dealer change to what was reccomended on the door panel. We asked a mechanic who works on trucks all the time how the axle and differential could have gotten bent like that. His response was, "they probably drove it off a cliff". There are numerous complaints to chevrolet regarding this truck. They have a complete history of our complaints after we bought it. There were no records before we bought it. Perhaps they repaired the vehicle themselves and didn't have to report what had happened to it. If you would like to discuss the truck in depth, please call me at the number i listed before.

Differential failed and both axles came out from under the vehiclewhile travelling at approximately 30mph.

The 10/22/00 defect was taken to a chevrolet dealer in michigan.it was fixed and we got the vehicle back on 10/27/00.on our trip back to indiana on 10/30/00, the differential fluid was flying out and it started the high pitch humming again.that was basically twice it went out in one week!as of this date, 11/2/00, it is back to a dealer in bloomington, indiana.

Loud bang/clunk noise when stopping or starting to move

Vehicle whenaccelerating from a stop sign or from a redlight vehicle makes noise due to driveshaft being loose . The remedy remedy is to go in and put grease onsplinesof the output shaft to take out the slack of the connection.

Driveshaft and rear end vibrations can not be rectified.

Vehicle clunks in the rear when starting from stop.dealer lubed the slip yoke and replaced the drive shaft, which did not solved the clunking noise.dealer believes manufacturer is aware of problem but has not released a remedy.

When taking off or stopping theres a squealing noise coming fromrear.took vehicle to dealer, and they said driveshaft needed to belubed.

The floating driveshaft was inadequately lubed causing a popping noise at the driveshaft yoke, the consumer believes this problem caused damage to the transmission.nlm

This is the second time i have had to repair my transmission in my '99 tahoe.the first incident left me stranded at 50k miles. Lucky i had and extended warranty. The repair shop had to do a full analysis to determine the failure which had something to do with a weak ringreverse gear? this time it appears the same problem has occurred again, only now i have 170k miles. I would have expected the engine to go first. The repair shop said something similar has happened this time as well.

I have a 99 tahoe that i was involved in an accident. I hit a car while doing 40mph that had pulled out infront of me. My air bags didn't deploy and my safety belt didn't keep me from hitting the steering wheel hard. Upon review of my safety belt, i noticed that it is routed incorrectly at the top holder. It binds on itself preventing it from retracting. My passenger side is routed correctly and works perfectly. I suffered a brain injury because of this and am quite concerned.

The rear left side seat belt anchor bolt was not torqued properly and came loose. Dealer says it was a manufacturer's defect.

Front seat belts will not retract out from spool mechanism.dealer has been notified. Consumer stated passenger seat belt/shoulder strap does not pull out of floor mount.

The seat belt in the rear passenger side will not retract or come out. It doesn't seem to be anchored. I have toddlers so, i need this seat belt. This leaves my children with no seat belt option. It's snow and ice out and my vehicle is now a hazard to my children's lives!

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 00v122000 (seat belts); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer on various occasions since 2003 for other repairs after the technician was asked to repair any outstanding recalls. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer stated that they would order the parts and they would arrive in approximately two weeks. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

My 16 year old son was injured resulting from a side collision to our 1999 chevy tahoe. The tahoe was struck by a pickup truck traveling approximately 55 - 60 mph.the pickup struck the tahoe on the driver's side of the vehicle behind the rear passenger door.the side window in the cargo area was broken by the impact and the tahoe spun around.all four occupants of the tahoe were wearing safety belts with shoulder harnress.my son was sitting in the back seat on the passenger side of the vehicle.the force of the impact appears to have caused the 60/40 rear seat to shift a fraction of an inch allowing the seatbelt harness to release where it attaches below the seat.when the seatbelt came apart he was thrown to the rear of the vehicle and his foot went through the broken side rear window. He sustained a severe laceration to his left foot severing tendons, ligaments and nerves.none of the other occupants of the vehicle were hurt as their seatbelts held secure.it appears the attachment which secures the buckle to the smaller rear seat requires a more substantial attaching pin.the 2000 model tahoe has a bolt and nut that secures the buckle attachment whereas the 1999 model has a small pin with a flimsy press cap holding it in place.

Consumer was traveling about 15-20mph, and vehicle was struck on the rear driver's side. Rear passenger's side seat belt released, throwing child torear of the cargo area oftruck. Child's left leg went through the side window. Dealer side couldn't help the consumer & to send letters to the president of gmc.

Vehicle hit a tree. Upon impact, seat belt did not retract, andair bags did not deploy, resulting in injuries.

Vehicle was involved in accident, the force to the side impact possibly caused the seat bracket to bend causing the seat buckle attachment bar to pop free from the holding pin, this resulted in the back seat consumer to somersault over the back seat injuring his foot. Consumer feels this is an unsafe design.

Rear seat belt won't lock, and the radio doesn't work.

The right rear passenger seat belt would not pull out from seat bottom.as a result the seat belt could not be used.*nlm, unable to use seat belt. *nlm

The consumer experienced a problem with the driver's seat. The seat was off the bracket. The bolt that holds the seat to the framebroke. Ownercontacted the dealer, who estimated a price of $501.15for repairs. The while driving the driver leaned back on the seat and it became detached from the frame on the upper left hand corner.the seat now feels totally unsafe, rocking back and forth every time a turn is made, or when accelerating and braking.consumer feel mounting brackets for seats should last more than a lifetime and should be fully covered as a defect when one breaks. The consumer wanted the known the status of his complaint.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 40 mph on normal road conditions, the front passenger side heated seat control module was activated while an occupant was sitting in the seat.there was unexpected and excessive heat penetrating from the seat, which caused the occupant to sustain second degree burns on his right thigh.the heated seat module harness connector was disconnected due to the malfunction.the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer.the vehicle will be taken to the authorized dealer for diagnostic testing.the vin was unknown.the failure and current mileages were 168,000.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at a slow speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the abs would erroneously activate and the vehicle would not immediately respond causing the stopping distance to be increased. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs sensors failed. The failure was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,000. The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. While driving various speeds, the brakes would seize and release without warning when the brake pedal was depressed. In addition, the vehicle shook violently. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the abs failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Abs failure caused vehicle to travel further than it should have.there is a current recall for 1999 tahoe for the issue of low speed abs initialization but my vin is not included in the recall.every time i come to a near stop my abs actuates and the car continues to roll farther than it would if the braking system were working properly.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. While driving approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal was engaged and the abs prematurely activated. The failure occurred only at low speeds. The vehicle was taken an independent mechanic where both front and rear brake pads were replaced. The problem persisted after the repair was performed. There was a recall under nhsta campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The manufacturer was notified and they informed the vin was ineligible under the recall. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

I was coming to a stop on dry pavement.the antilock brakes engaged at less than 10 mph and about 3 mph before causing a failure to stop in time for stop sign. Almost caused an accident by not stopping to avoid collision.no antilock light or fault code appeared. This a has occurred numerous times when driving forward or in reverse. .ialso experience low brake pedal occasionally. Had all brakes parts replaced new or rebuilt. Brake system has be flushed and bled at least 3 times without a change in failure of antilock.

Brakes lock up & release suddenly at speeds under 45mph while coasting or accelerating. Brakes, rotors, & drums all replaced. Problem continues to exist. When brakes lock, it usually chirps the tires and releases. This happens several times in a row. At times it will cause vehicle to skid to a stop. Brakes lock up without ever touching the brake peddle. As the brakes lock up & release it hits so hard that it throws passengers forward. This happens at random. At times it happens when first operating the vehicle & other times after operating the vehicle for a several miles. At times vehicle is operated for over 50 miles with no incident. Other times there are 10-20 incidences for every mile traveled. The vehicle has been taken to more than one mechanic on a multitude of occasions with no success. The brakes have never locked up while applying the brakes. No accidents so far but have had a close call. Traveling at approximately 20 mph on about 1/2" of snow, the brakes locked up and caused me to slide within inches of a guardrail.

Rear brake line broke due to corrosion . My mechanic said .he replaced it with a non corrosive flexible line . Why didn't they use this to start with.

Backing out of my driveway and my brake pedal went to the floor with very little braking power.brake fluid running out of the front center of the vehicle.checked the vehicle and the brake line had rusted completely through causing loss of brake fluid.

In reference to the current investigation of gm trucks and suvs for brake problems (abs) at low-speed. This was reported on the news today (05/02/05). The corrosion around the abs hub sensors is a well-known problem. My 1999 chevy tahoe has had this problem for months. Most repair places want to replace the hubs for a very high price ($500+ per wheel). This is ridiculous!!! i pulled my abs fuse until i can get rid of the corrosion myself. Recall these vehicles now! the chevy/gmc truck-suv community has been aware of this forever, gm ignores it!!!

During the past 6-9 months, my vehicle anti-lock brakes activate while attempting to slow/stop from slower speeds.the result is a severely increased breaking distance and threat for impact.this has occured several times

The wheel speed sensor failed causing noise from the left front of the vehicle upon braking.nlm

Nhtsa recall 05v379000:at under 5 mph rear-ended another car.despite standing on brake peda 1999 tahoe 4x4 would not stop.the stopping distance was approximately35 feet. Often when front tires were turned right rear tire locked.i think the abs sensor problem extendedto more states.

Brake rotors are warped causing pulsations under braking conditions. Worsens with wear.

Since purchasing the vehicle (dealer demo) in late 1999, front rotors have been turned four times and replaced once due to warping. This problem has been attributed to the fact front brakes are doing all the braking. It seems the rear brake adjusters do not hold adjustment for more than a few applications of the brakes. The rear pads have never been replaced because they are not worn due to alack of application to the drum. The vehicle has had the adjusters cleaned several times and the brakes have worked for a few days only to have the rear brakes lose adjustment again. Obviously this is a serious saftey issue as the vehicle takes much more effort to stop its motion. Athe replacement cost of the front pads and truing of the rotors has been expensive. The cost far higher than normal for most vehicles in this class. A very near accident was barely avoided this past week due to a loss of stopping power as the rear brakes do not assist the front discs. Also the emergency brake does not hold the vehicle. When firmly applied a few weeks ago, on a slight grade, the vehicle began to roll.

Bought vehicle used from gm dealer jan 2003. In sept 2007, this gm dealer replaced left front hub assy due to abs stopping problems under 10 mph charging me $605 (vehicle had 95,000 miles).in dec 2011, at 151,000 miles the vehicle again had abs stopped problems under 10 mph. This time repairs required from another gm dealer were replacement of two new front abs sensors charging me $340. Both dealers stated not covered under nhtsa 05v379000.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe.while driving 5 mph, the brake pedal stiffened when applied.the brakes also made a squeaking noise.the brakes were replaced, but the failure still occurred.the current mileage was 81,000 and failure mileage was 75,000.

At slow speeds, the abs activates on dry pavement and it is very difficult to stop the vehicle.

Brake lines rusted, loss of brake fluid, brake failure in heavy traffic...verified by wastlers auto in md.

Brakes acted funny at stops - would slow down then keep moving until i slammed on brakes. Had the brakes checked and was told they were fine.on friday 11/10/06, i was moving my 1999 chev tahoe lt 4x4 - took my foot off the brake and it would not stop when i put the brake to the floor to miss a building. The vehicle ran into a building causing damage to the building and injuries to me, the driver and only passenger.

Abs engages on my chevrolet tahoe as i come to a stop, preventing me to stop in a reasonably expected distance. I have a 1999 tahoe that seems to have the exact same problem addressed by nhtsa recall campaign number 05v37900, gm recall number 05068. The problem occurs every time i come to a complete stop. As the vehicle slows to 1 or 2 mph the abs engages and increases the stopping distance. The vehicle was purchased and registered and used in new york from new till present. New york is one of the salt belt states that is covered in the recall listed above.i have contacted gm and they told me the recall did not apply to my particular tahoe. I bought the vehicle brand new in 1998 . The rep at gm could not explain why my particular vehicle was not covered by the recall..the vehicle was looked at by a gm mechanic. He said the sensors would have to be removed, cleaned, anti-rust material applied, and replaced. The work has not been done yet.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle experienced sudden abs activation. The failure occurred within the first 5 minutes of driving. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop but the failure could not be assessed. The failure mileage was 105,000.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe.while traveling at low speeds, the contact could feel the brakes grab when she depressed the brake pedal.however, the pedal released for a micro second before it grabbed again and stopped the vehicle.the failure began when the vehicle was purchased but has currently become more frequent and severe.if the contact slams on the brake pedal, the vehicle brakes properly and stops the vehicle normally.the dealer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock).the failure mileage was 500 and current mileage was 56,000. Dt*: the contact stated while driving 5 mph, the brakes failed, causing an accident.two occupants in the vehicle directly in front of the contact's vehicle were injured.that vehicle was totaled and the occupants were taken to the hospital by ambulance.there were no details about the injuries sustained.there was a total of five vehicles involved in the collision.the contact's vehicle sustained damage to the grill, bumper and both front fenders.the air bag deployed and the seatbelt was worn.the three other vehicles sustained minor damage, although no information was available.a police report was taken.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer, but the vehicle was not part of nhtsa recall # 05v379000 for the service brakes: hydraulic: antilock.the manufacturer was notified.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe.in an attempt to engage the brakes at 10 mph, the abs warning indicator illuminated and the brake pedal extended to the floor.the contact was unable to engage the brakes normally, which resulted in less braking distance.while driving low speeds in a parking lot, the abs remained activated and made a grinding sound.a local mechanic discovered nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock); however, the dealer stated that the vin was not included in the recall.the failure mileage was 166,000 and current mileage was 168,000.

Concerns regarding brake lights and steering on 1999 chevrolet tahoes and gmc yukons.*mrthe consumer feels an immediate recall of the brakes and steering should be issued.

Brake line to rear axle corroded and ruptured on 1999 chevy tahoe. Rupture occurred where the brake line passes below the fuel tank support strap attachment point. My son was able to control the vehicle and get home safely with no rear brakes, but was scared as a result. I have just finished replacing the brake line from the abs module all the way to the rear axle as a result of wide spread corrosion and structural weakness in the line. I also had to replace two fuel lines that pass through the same area as the brake line for excessive corrosion as well. I have the old parts.

My 1999 chevrolet tahoe has had an ongoing brake problem from the day i bought it. The brakes seem to apply themselves during normal driving. I have had to replace two sets of tires and two sets of front brake pads in less than 50000 miles. Sometimes when i smell something getting hot while driving i will stop and feel the front wheels. They will be so hot that i cannot touch them. Then the other day i had to make a panic stop and the anti lock system did not work and the whole car shuddered and shook and i thought for sure i would hit the car in front of me. I have not taken it to the chevrolet dealer as i am on limited income and cannot afford a large expense. I have been following the problems with these cars for years hoping that gm would finally issue a recall. The tire dealer that installed the last set of tires told me that the tires failed because of the front wheels getting so hot. Because of this i have put very few miles on the car and do not drive it over 50 mph. I still have the tires from the rear but threw away the ones from the front because of the damage to them.

Original owner of 1999 tahoe.since purchase, i have felt that the truck was not stopping well, even at low speeds.i returned to dealer and they continued to say nothing was wrong.since that time, i have had four different dealers in three states and two private mechanics look at it. All have said it "performs as intended". The brakes were worked on seven times that i have records for.at 17k miles, 32k miles, rear brakes were cleaned and adjusted. At 36k, front rotors were resurfaced, rear brakes cleaned/adjusted.at 47k, front rotors were replaced and rear drums were turned.replaced pads.rears adjusted at 59k.at 72k, replaced front brakes and machined rotors.cleaned/adjusted rears.this continues on every 20k miles or so and still the truck does not stop under normal conditions even at low speeds. The rear brake adjustments only last about two weeks, then back to the same thing. Luckily, i have not had an accident yet but have had to pull to the side to avoid hitting car in front of me.

When the brake pedal is depressed at speeds of 5mph or less the abs activates causing to lose control of your anticipated stopping distance.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that when trying to decelerate at low speeds, the brakes would exhibit a loud noise and there was an increase in stopping distance. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired by a dealer or mechanic. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.

The metal brake line that runs along the frame. Where it goes up and over the rear axle on the drivers side. It rusted out without any warning. I was turning into my driveway and the brake pedal went to the floor. Luckily my drive goes up a small incline so i coasted it up the hill by barely giving it any gas and stopped it by my house.

When driving slowly, like around a parking lot, the brakes make noise and when the pedal is engaged it feels spongy and the brakes grab. ***nar received 10-20-05***the consume heard that gm has recall brakes in other states but not in wisconsin.

Went back out to my 1999 tahoe to leave a cvs...brake pedal went to the floor and had no brakes.brake line feeding the rear was rusted and broke.

I havechevy tahoe 1999,while traveling in low speed about 20 miles per hour,i needed to stop behind cars stopping in front of me for red signal.i pushed the brake pedal and it felt soft, braking power was week and eventually i hid the car in front of me. Fortunately no injury. I had my suv checked and to my surprise, i havebeen told thatmy tahoe has ruptured break line du to complete rust in all the break lines.to me this is a very serious safety matter, and as i hear it is very common with gm trucks .considering the size and mass of my suvicould be involve in fatal accident compromising life of many peoples.

Consumer has had to replacebrakes every 12000-14000 miles.dealer is unable to determine why brakes are wearing excessively.

Anti-lock brake activation under 5 miles per hour. Call chevrolet, said vehicle was not covered under recall 05v379000 due to being one model year prior to the recall. There is a service bulletin for the same problem on my model year.

Purchased vehicle from chevy dealer, shortly after noticed brakes do not function correctly, especially at low speeds. Now the brakes consistently do not stop at low speeds in a secure distance.have not had a crash yet.i do not even drive the vehicle much anymore and want to sell it but i can't let someone get hurt. I am an engineer that works with the automotive industry and i practice very defensive driving especially with this tahoe.

There have been several incidents, 2 of which could have resulted in serious injury. The brakes on our 1999 chevrolet tahoe don't always work properly. The anti-lock brakes activate even on completely dry surfaces. We have an extremely steep driveway that runs directly off of the main street. While attempting to stop on the driveway for a passing car we could not, and only split second timing was the reason we did not hit the passing auto. Another close call occurred when we were parking in a stall in front of a local store. I applied the brakes but there was a delay before any braking started and we almost it the building. If there had been a person in front of the vehicle i would have crushed them against a brick wall. These incidents have caused both my wife and myself to loose confidence in the safety of the vehicle. Brakes are the most critical safety feature on a vehicle and must function properly.

Dt: without warning the brakes will not work.the consumer has to hit the brakes hard at times to get the vehicle to stop.the consmer said there is a recall in canada on these brakes.the dealer said there is no problem with the brakes.the manufacturer has not been called yet.*sc

Abs activated when attempting to stop on several occasions on october 17, 2010 on my 1999 chevy tahoe.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. The contact was approaching a traffic stop at 5 mph and applied the brakes. A loud noise then emitted as the vehicle began to lunge forward unexpectedly. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the front and rear brake pads were replaced, including the rotors. The anti-lock braking system was also disabled. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000. Updated 08/20/13*lj

Dt:the contact states there is a nhtsa recall campaign 05v379000 concerning the anti lock brakes. This vehicle has the same problemsas indicated in the recall before it was sold, but itis not included in the recall due to vin.the contact repaired the vehicle at his own expense and wanted reimbursement.

I tried to stop the car and i was not able to get the vehicle to a complete top.the car only slowed down until i hit the vehicle infront of me.i have reported the brakes failure to the dealer previously.the dealer's response is that this is normal.

Dt*: the contact stated the abs activated at low speeds and there was an increased stopping distance.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe.when pulling into a driveway and applying the brakes, the antilock braking system activates.as a result, the contact drives slowly and applies the brakes gently.the stopping distance has increased.the contact was informed that her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock).the speed and purchase date were unknown.the current mileage was 104,000 and failure mileage was 103,000.

Experience unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation and increased stopping distances during low speed brake applications. We have filed a previous complaint for nhtsa campaign id 05v379000 which prompted gm to recall some of the vehicles affected by this problem. Vehicles in our state of wisconsin were not included in this recall. When asking for the number of failures, i entered 100, but it happens everyday at just about every attempt we make at stopping the vehicle.

Chevrolet has recalled 1999 tahoes for abs sensor failure due to corrosion. I didn't receive a recall notice, so i called chev. At 1-800-630-2438. Their representative told me that my vehicle's identification number did not fall within the "breakpoint", so my vehicle isn't covered in the recall, despite the fact that i had to have the abs sensors replaced in nov, 2004 at a cost of $741.the rep. Couldn't explain why my vehicle didn't fall within the so-called "breakpoint".my vehicle's ident. # is [xxx]. The vehicle has always been used in maine, which is one of the "salt belt" states. Abs brake problems: when applying the brakes under normal braking conditions, vehicle is slow in stopping. This happens while traveling on smooth road surfaces and no inclement weather. It seems as though the braking system is inadequate for the truck.dealership stated that the brake system is working as it was designed. Please provide any further information.

I have a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. There has been a limited recall on the wheel sensor that controls the abs brake system. I took my vehicle in for the recall but was informed it was not included in the recall. It has the same problems that chevy's included in the recall.the problem is...sometimes the abs activates when the brakes haven't even been applied. Sometimes it activates at very low speeds causing longer braking distance. I finally pulled the fuse to deactivate the abs.

1999 chevrolet tahoe [xxx] has been experiencing increasingly severe brake shudder and activation of abs system at low speeds for the past 6 weeks.happens nearly every time i come to a slow stop and has caused dozens of near miss crashes in city traffic.brought vehicle into dealership on october 14, 2005 and was informed that item was a corrosion problem and part of a recall.gmc was contacted directly and informed me (and the dealership) that my vehicle vin was not part of the august 2005 recall notice and that problem was my own problem.inspection of brakes by local dealership confirmed that defect was consistent with other recall items and involved a component that was actually operating defectively (as opposed to preventative replacement of the part).recall should be re-examined and expanded.updated 07/18/2012 information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

The anti-lock brakes come on intermitently when comming to a slow controlled stop in any weather condition. I pulled the fuse the controls the abs system to prevent this from happening because i figure it is a costly repair and isn't under waranty any longer. Yesterday i read in the cleveland plain dealer driving section about other motorist having this same problem on 1998 chevy trucks. I thought that sounds like my problem. The article suggested that we contact you because no one including the dealer has been able to diganose this problem. They suggested a failure of an inclement weather sensor. I am concened because i know this is a heavy vehicle and abs allows you to control a vehcile better in an emergency situation. I can provide the vin if you need it i just don't have it right now at work.

Had to stop quickly.brake pedal went to the floor without even getting close to squeelingthe tires at all.was able to stop, but not very quickly. Brakes smelled following the stop.asked the delear about the problem and got no good explaination.still having problems with weak brakes!

Could not stop almost wrecked!replacement cost almost $500. Very dangerous!!!. No safety defect mentioned.

Within the past 2 weeks, my 1999 chevy tahoe began experiencing a problem with the abs brakes.when slowing down and performing normal braking prior to coming to a stop, the abs kicks in at very low speed (<5mph) and the brakes essentially fail.i contacted my dealer about this problem and they said the 1999 tahoe (old style) is not covered under a recall.

Antilock brakes activate with no reason while braking.

I am the original owner of a 1999 chevrolet tahoe.i have been having trouble with the brakes since 2001.i have had them replaced twice since my mileage on the vehicle is over 70,000.my problem is that they still don't feel right....i've mentioned this to both a gm dealer and private auto garage and they can find nothing wrong.i feel that the abs recall just announced will fix my problem.i looked at the list of states at www.kyw.com and noticed that delaware is not listed.how can i be a part of this recall so that i don't become an accident statistic?i phoned gm and they don't have any information in their computers about this recall yet.i was informed that you it is still in the works.

Chevy tahoe 1999, we have owned this vehicle for four years and put 40,000 + miles on it, it now has 102,000 miles. In that time frame we have had to replace the front roters and pads four times. In january of 2002 i had an accident at slow speed in slushy road conditions where the vehicle did not stop over a travel distance of 100'+/- it was blamed on driver error and poor road conditions, since that time we had a complete failure of the front brakes with no accident and fortunately no injury. A third incident resulted in no property damage or accident.

Abs activates at speeds under 10mph whether applying the brakes or not. There is increased stopping distance. The pedalgoes to the floor. Has almost caused accident on more than one occasion.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, he experienced unwanted abs activation. As a consequence, he experienced extended stopping distances. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and a technician concluded that the abs sensor and the wheel hub needed to be replaced at an expense of$2000.00 . No repairs were made. The failure and current mileages were 128,000.

My 1999 chevy tahoe has a conditionwhere if the brakes are applied while the vehicle is traveling at a speed greater than 3.7 mph but less than 10 mph, i get unwanted anti-lock brake system (abs) activation.no accidents have been cause by this yet, but it has been very close many times.

Brake failure.

The abs brakes seems to activate all the time while driving at low speeds when i press down on the brakes to come to a stop.

Whenabsbrakes engage, there is a "screeching" or "loud moaning" noise, and abs fails to bringvehicle to a stop. Consumer has not takenvehicleto repair shop to be examined.please provide any additional information/attachments.

I had onlythe vehicle a couple two or three months when one day i found myself in a situation to have to make an emergency stop while going about 35 mph, when i stomped on the brakes the rear brakes locked up and the tires skid and screeched. The front end went to the right and the rear end went to the left on the inside lane of a four lane street which put the front end in the right same direction lane and the rear end in the inside on-coming lane. It really scared me as i expected a true straight forward stop without any skidding. Also at times when the brakes are applied normally they at any speed the brakes will pull hard on the steering wheel either left or right. One never knows until the brakes are applied. I have this vehicle into three different dealership service departments several times for repair of this and many other things over the past year while working with the chevrolet customer assistance office. Finally i was allowed to meet with the south central region area service manager for general motors. He drove the vehicle and about lost control of the vehicle while making a simulated emergency stop. He has advised me that it was normal. I do not agree with him as i have and have had other vehicles with anti-lock brakes that have responded like that. I feel like the vehicle is defective and dangerous. I requested gm to purchase the vehicle back from me for that reason and they have refused.

Dt:the contact stated the vehicle experiences extendedstopping distances.the problem was intermittentat first and has continually gottenworse.she replaced the entire braking system , trying to correct the problem, and discovered a recall recall 05v379000 for a different year.the dealership replaced the abs sensors due to corrosion.11/29/2005 -

Abs intermidently working at slow speeds. Mechanic thought cleaning off the abs sensors would help. Instead mechanic had to replace pads, rotors, calipers and slides and wheel cylinder. My 1999 tahoe only had 65,890 miles on 2/14/05 when repairs were performed. Cost $785.00 and is well documented. Mechanic is gm certified and was surprised at the amount of repairs needed.

In reference to the current investigation of gm trucks and suvs for brake problems at low speed.as i slow down or have to stop on clear/dry roadways, i have been fortunate not to smash into the vehicle in front of me or to cause an accident by going past the stop sign.i have had this problem with my 1999 chevy tahoe since december, 2004 and it's getting worse.it used to happen just once in awhile, now it happens 99% of the time when i slow down or need to stop(at a speed of under 10).i'm having to double pump the brakes and still pray it will stop in time.most repair places want to replace the hubs for a very high price of $500 per wheel or more. I am a michigan resident living in a "salt belt" state and i'm not understanding why the 1999 year chevy tahoe isn't covered under the recall for repairing the anti-lock brakes.i would like to challenge the national highway traffic safety department to drive my vehicle and then determine if it shouldn't be covered.

I have a 1999 chevy tahoe.there have been a few instances when i have applied the brakes at low speeds; the brakes lock causing the truck to skip and skid.this is terrifying, as i do not know when the truck will stop.sometimes the skip and skid will go for 10-15 feet before finally stopping.twice i have almost hit another vehicle.a third time i had to drive off the road to avoid a collision because the truck would not stop.there is a current recall issued by nhtsa #05v379000 but does not extend to california.i reside in northern california.this vehicle is used in the snow/sleet/rain.the condition (summary of recall) is in occurring in my vehicle here in northern california and should be considered in the recall.this is a very dangerous occurrence with the brakes that could result in a motor vehicle accident.

There has been a recall issued for 2000-2002 tahoe for front wheel speed sensor corrosion (product safety recall 05068) from gm. This should have also included the 1999 tahoe.this abs issue is currently happening to my tahoe.its been occurring since the middle of 2005. I heard of the upcoming safety recall back in august 2005. But when i took my 1999 tahoe to the dealership, they stated my vin# was not on the list for recalls.when i looked deeper into this recall, it only includes 2000-2002 tahoe. I know of this happening on another 1999 tahoe sport. It would be nice to have gm expand the recall coverage to include all 1999 tahoe.

Abs speed sensors are faulty as per a recall on 1999 chevy tahoes, gm states that my vehicle is not part of the recall, i went to the dealership, the told me they could lube and clean the parts, then they told me they were frozen and would have to be replaced. Since i didn't have the extra money they offered to unplug the abs sensors so they would not kick inn. I am not sure how they can guarantee that the parts on my car are not the faulty ones that were placed on the vehicle at the factory.

1999 chevrolet tahoe is plagues with activation of the abs system at low speeds (ie bumper to bumper traffic or slowing to a stop sign/traffic light) when the abs system engages thedriver has no input to the brakes and the stopping distance is greatly increased leading to possible and likely crashes. I happens intermittantly, but numerous times daily! dealer is aware of an existing recall involving 1999-2002 gm vehicles from my area..but will not cover my $700 for repairs that shoul dbe covered by the recall(nhtsa # 05v379000 wheel speed sensors)

About 2 months ago the anti-lock brakes on my tahoe started activating as i was slowing down or stopping on clear/dry roadways. It took longer to stop, and the first few times it happened i was fortunate enough to stop without smashing into the car in front of me, or that there was no car in the intersection when i went past the stop sign a few feet. I was told by a mechanic friend that it was caused by a dirty or defective abs sensor. He also told me that gm does not sell the sensor seperately and you have to buy the entire wheel hub, which costs around $500 per wheel. I have not had it repaired yet due to the cost. I simply allow myself more time to stop. I was told that i could disable the anti-lock brakes. I am hesitant to do that because i feel i have better control with the anti-lock brakes than conventional brakes with the weather in the area where i live.

On 1/27/06 i took my vehicle to a certified mechanic for a problem with my abs.he informed me that there was a problem with corrosion on the sensors causing the abs to activate at slow speed.he disassembled, cleaned and reassembled the sensor for a cost of $148.00.i drove it again and the same problem occurred.i looked to see if there was information about the problem.i found a recall nhtsa # 05v379000 gm campaign # 05068.i took the vehicle to a chevrolet dealer today for a diagnosis and was told i needed a hub assembly which would cost $350.00 labor $180.00 and that my vin number was not included in the recall.as of today 1.4 million trucks and suv's are recalled with the same problem.i called gm customer service and was told that because i did not buy the vehicle new and did not have it continually serviced at the dealer there was nothing that they could do.i don't understand how they can pick and choose vehicles to be covered by this recall.my vehicle falls into the category of every stipulation except for the vin number.

In an unloaded (normal) condition. The brakes are very ineffective. Almost to the point of not being useful. I've had them looked at by both a dealer and midas and they both said everything seems fine.the lack of sufficient braking power has made me come very close to causing an acident on multiple occasions.i have been told by more than one people that this is the norm for this series of chevy.i consider this a very hazardous item and i would be selling the vehicle if my finances allowed at this time.the truck is a 99 model and i bought it used in 04.

Original owner of 1999 tahoe. Since purchase, i have felt that the truck was not stopping well, even at low speeds. I returned to dealer and they continued to say nothing was wrong. Since that time, i have had four different dealers in three states and two private mechanics look at it. All have said it "performs as intended". The brakes were worked on seven times that i have records for. At 17k miles, 32k miles, rear brakes were cleaned and adjusted. At 36k, front rotors were resurfaced, rear brakes cleaned/adjusted. At 47k, front rotors were replaced and rear drums were turned. Replaced pads. Rears adjusted at 59k. At 72k, replaced front brakes and machined rotors. Cleaned/adjusted rears. This continues on every 20k miles or so and still the truck does not stop under normal conditions even at low speeds. The rear brake adjustments only last about two weeks, then back to the same thing. Luckily, i have not had an accident yet but have had to pull to the side to avoid hitting car in front of me.

Constant activation of abs brakes due to corrosion between the front hub/bearing assembly and/or the speed sensor being defective. This issue is being addressed by gm on some vehicles but they won't fix mine because they say it's not in the vin number range. The problem is very real and very dangerous. It started almost 12 months ago, and i was told to wait for the state of wisconsin to be added to the recall list, they have added wisconsin but have selected certain vin numbers only that the bulletin applies to.

The recall that chevy has for the antilock brakes only goes back to 2000. Mine had the same issue and i had to replace the entire hub assembly on each side because it got so bad that they were activating all the time. I do not have the parts, but i got it repaired at a service garage and have the receipt.

(1) braking on dry ground(2) abs engages at speeds below 5 mph, brake distance is increase unexpectedly(3) no repair yet, dealer says entire brake assembly needs to be exchanged.

I purchased this vehicle from my nephew on 11/30/07. Since then, at least a dozen times, the brakes pulsate at very low speeds. An online search seemed to indicate this is a problem with rust or dirt causing the abs sensors to register incorrectly. On 12/05/07, i took the vehicle to a dealership to have the abs sensors and ring cleaned. I was informed later that 3 of the 4 sensors were electrically bad and needed to be replaced and it would cost almost $800. The abs warning light has not once come on to indicate there was an abs problem. Gm should be required to recall all vehicles suspected to have abs sensor/ring problems and vehicles in which the abs warning system does not function correctly.

Contact states:poor brake performance on 1999 chevrolet, tahoe.the anti lock brake system wasn't working .

At any speed, brakes only work if pedal is pushed to floor, need lots of stopping time. Dealer said that was the way tahoe's work. Finally replaced them somewhere else.they used an upgrade that they said tahoes have for the 2000 year. Also both back drums cracked.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe.while driving approximately 5 mph or less, the contact felt a vibration and heard a noise when the brake pedal was depressed.the contact observed that the anti-lock brakes were not stopping properly at low speeds in any type of weather conditions.also, the stopping distance increased.there were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle will be taken to an authorized dealer for repair.the vin was excluded from the abs recall, although the failures were identical.the nhtsa campaign id number was 05v379000.the failure mileage was 110,000 and current mileage was 135,000.updated 10/07/08. *ljupdated 10/08/08.

My 1999 chevy tahoe 4x4 starting having the abs system act up starting a couple of days ago. I called chevy about a recallthat is on the website for 99 tahoe and they said that my vin number was not in the effected range of 99's. The problem is that at low speeds around 5-8 mph the abs system kicks on and i can't stop the truckalmost getting into many accidents with it. This is a big safety problem now and they wont fix it. Now i need the truck fixed and its doing the same thing the recall states its doing. Its says there was a problem with the wheel sensors. Please help me with this since they won't. This truck is very dangerous to drive now that there is snow and i don't think i should have to pay for something like this. Please help thanks for your time.

But whenthe consumer contacted the manufacturer they told her that this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin.

My anti locking brakes seem to be engaging when i break at slow speeds.i had an accident in slow traffic when i pressed on the breaks, but the vehicle did not stop.this happened to me twice on the way to work this morning, almost causing another wreck...that is why i am writing today. It doesn't do it all the time, just sometimes.i didn't realize what the problem was until i began doing research.

Gm issued a recall #05068 on over 800,000 trucks & suvs involving improper abs activation at low/slow speeds.(nhtsa campaign id #05v379000).i took my 1999 chev tahoe to the dealer today for the repair, and was told this recall did not effect my vehicle, that it did not include my vin #.the service person said he did observe the fact that my vehicle indeed has the problem, but they cannot fix it per gm's guidelines.i do not understand how - if it is evident the vehicle has the unsafe equipment/actions that warrant the recall, how can it be excluded from the recall?as of this date, i do not have an auto accident and/or personal injury on record due to the fact that i have learned to adjust my driving to avoid the obvious fact that, yes, i would have one or two rear-end accidents a week if i did not.this vehicle was purchased by me dec 2004 and was a problem from the beginning.we did not immediately have the money to pay to have it fixed.my husband was checking to see if the wiper system had been recalled for some reason as they rarely work, when he discovered the brake problem was being investigated.so we have waited this process out, only to discover it does not include our tahoe.as a matter of fact, when he printed the recall information out on 9/29/05, it listed the 1999 tahoes, but now as of today, it has been changed to 2000 and newer.how can that be when my vehicle has the problem?

Dt*:the contact stated the abs activates at low speeds of 3 to 5 mph.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.upon inspection both wheel speed sensors were corroded due to salt on the highway.there is a nhtsa recall, 05v379000 regarding the anti lock brakes. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin.the consumer stated the abs warning light never illuminated.updated 03/03/06.

When applying the brakes pedal went all the way down to the floor, there was a popping noise and there were no brakes. Driver lost control of the vehicle and flipped over into median. The vehicle has not been totalled. Please provide any further details.

Safety bulletins, 1000062 (020525006) and 1000749 (020525006a) both describe a problem with the antiskid. When i took my vehicle in i was told that it does not come up on the computer so they refuse to fix it. It has the problem so how do i get it fixed by the dealer (gm)?

We purchased the 1999 tahoe in june, 1998.we had the rotors turned in december 1998 and then replaced aug. 1999. This should not happen on a new vehicle, let alone one that costs as much as the tahoe.the brake pedal was going to the floor and the vehicle was not stopping very good, especially at a speed greater than 40 mph.the brakes were bled in the summer of 1999. That seemed to help for a while. But the problem seemed to reappear.we took the truck back to our dealer.they then replaced the brake master cylinder. That seemed to help.but i feel the brake system still is not a good system when you must press the pedal down so far to get a good stop.the manifold gaskets also had to already be replaced. For a fairly new and expensive vehicle, we have had alot of problems with this particular vehicle. (we had a 1995 chevy suburban before, and we had no problems with it.we really liked the braking system on it and wish we had never traded for the tahoe.)one thing i noticed on your recalls, on the 1998 tahoes, there was a recall on the rotors and braking system.since our truck was built early in may 1998, and listed as 1999, could we have possibly inherited the same problems as the 1998 tahoe? i would love to purchase a 2000 tahoe, but hesitate because of the braking system they may have. Please inform me if there could be a recall on our model and year. I feel the 1998 recall should be extended to the 1999 since everything on the vehicles are the same.

Dt: on september 16, 2005 noticed at low speeds the abs systemactivated. Have contacted the dealer, and there was recall05068, but this vehicle was not included. The abs system activated no matter what the road conditions were. Could hear and feel abs system activate, andthe vehiclecontinued to roll.had to increase stopping distance in order to get the vehicle to stop. There was no for warning when this happened.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe.the vehicle madea jerking motion at any speed when the brake was depressed.the dealer stated that the wheel speed sensors needed to be cleaned.the dealer cleaned the sensors.however, the vehicle continued to jerk.the dealer replaced the speed sensors, but the failure continuedto persist.the contact has not taken the vehicle to the dealer since the sensors were replaced.the current and failure mileage were 123,000.

- the contact owns a 1999 chevrolet tahoe. When preparing to stop the vehiclewhile drivingat 5 mph the abs activated, and took longer to stop the vehicle during clear road conditions. The dealer stated that the wheel speed sensor caused the abs to activate. The dealer stated that the sensor should be cleaned. There wasrecall 05v379000concerningthe wheel speed sensor. The manufacturer stated the 1999 chevrolet tahoe was not included in the recall. The current and failure mileage were both 132,000.

I own a 1999 chevrolet tahoe.it has a severe brake problem.sometimes when you are going under 40 and step on the brakes the abs seems to activate making a loud noise and the vehicle does not want to stop unless you stand on the brakes and then it stops slowly.i had a complete brake job done and it didn't get any better even though i took it back 2 more times.while i was on the internet trying to find a site that might be able to tell me what was wrong i ran across a site called www.ohiolemonlaw.com.they listed my vehicle model and year as having a recall for exactly the problem i was having.i then checked with gm and my local chevrolet dealership and they were both aware of the problem and the recall but said my vehicle's vin was not included in the recall.if there was a recall on the 1999 tahoe for exactly the same problem as my 1999 tahoe then i feel that my vehicle should be covered under that recall.i also looked under the nhtsa site and found a recall campaign number 05v379000 for exactly the same problem i am having.please let me know what my options are.my vin # is [xxx] and i am the original ownerthank you.updated 07/16/2012information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

Brakes failed at 19,443 miles.both pads and right rotor needed replacement.dealership will not stand behind warranty even though there are service bulletins out on both the brakes and rotors.

Warping of front discs/rear drums and premature wear of pads/shoes @ 15k miles. Dealership aware that there is an issue but not covered under warranty except unwritten 12/12. Had rotors and drums turned and newpads installed. Problem has been corrected and will hopefully last.

Brakes on right passenger's side keeps wearing down metal to metal. Had replaced 5 times. Dealer contacted.

Dealer gaveconsumer front & back brakes all the around & they were just changed.brakes were always purcahsed fromdealer (delco).brake drums pads & rotors were changed. Dealer was saying it was normal wear.last time they were changed was in august.

Pulling up to a red lightand upon applying brakes to slow down, vehicle started pulling left to right and jerking violently.contacted dealer, they were unable to find the problem.

Was driving& starting to apply the brakes. Felt a pulsating motion in the pedal. Took vehicle to dealer & was informed the pads had worn unevenly, and that rotors were warped. Also that the shoes needed replacing due to being worn out. Entire front abs brake system needed replacing.

The exhaust manifold was falling out causing vehicle to lose gas mileage. Vehicleexperienced pulsated brakes when driving on the hwy at 55 mph. Dealer replaced brakes and surfaced rotors to correct the problem. Brakes failed after serviced.however, the calibers got very hot which boilded the oil in the brakes system which caused the failure.

Power booster failed, causing brake pedal to hitfloor.also, dealeradvised that brake pads will have to be replaced.this will be the third replacement.

Excessive wearing of brake pads, brake shoes due to the intermittent engagement of the power booster while driving.took vehicle when it first had this problem to two different chevrolet dealerships and was told that because i could not prove the booster's premature triggeringthat it would not be covered under warranty, in other words they told me if we don't see it as being broken we aren't fixing it..they did not acknowledge the existance of a safety bulleting saying in fact that the power booster was prone to failure.since then i have had to change out the brake pads twice at my own expense.i replaced all parts with gmac factory parts and replaced the power booster with agm rebuilt power booster.

Experienced excessive vibration when braking. Mechanic advised that rotors were warped and needed to be turned.this was done but problem reoccurred after less than 5,000 mi.advised this time that rotors are warped again and need to be replaced, probably due to "the way i drive". I have never had this happen with other vehicles. After asking that they look further for a cause, i am told that this is normal wear and tear.after pushing a little harder, i am finally advised that the rotors on this year/model are prone to warping and should be replaced, but are not covered by warranty even though i puchased extended warranty. I am told that the gm replacement part will be identical to original. Rear brakes were screeching @27489 mi (i purchased at 23326 mi).told that shoes nead replcmt due to wear.i, nor anyone i have spoken with have heard of rear brake shoes wearing out at this low mileage.

When driving around a curvesteering wheel suddenly had a lot of play, . Almost resulting in loss of vehicle control. Causeunkwown.

Vehicle experiencing steering problem.nlm

Pulled away from stop light and steering locked up.steering wheel moved around.

My 1999 chevy tahoe been giving me problems with the steering wheel snatching the wheel to one side of the road i have liked to wrecked twice because of this i had my tires changed thought it was that had the truck lined up still doing it i think this is a very important safety issue that needs to addressed before sombody gets hurt when the truck snatches it pulls like it out of limit bad but then go's back to its self i noticed it mostly does it in a turn around a curve while on the highway

Experience unanticipated steering wheel movement at moderate speeds (20 to 55 mph). Steering wheel "jerks" unexpectedly while driving, especially while driving on a curved roadway (in a moderate turn at speed).vehicle has done this for about 3 years, but problem has progressed.found the problem posted on www.carcomplanints.com and realized i've experienced the problem, too but didn't know what was wrong.

While drivingsteering would jerkvehicle to left andright at any speed. Took vehicledealer, who told consumerto replaceconnector, that remedied the problem.

Vehicle drifted hard to the right. After repairs drifted to the left, the vehicle wandered on the road. Also, there is alot of play in the steering, more than it should be.dealer contacted and stated the problem was a characteristic of the vehicle, and could not duplicate the problem.

I own a 1999 chevrolet tahoe that has an ongoing on and off problem with the steering whereby the steering wheel will jerk suddenly in one direction or the other (usually pulling to the right) while i am driving.the feeling is as if i have hit a patch of ice or oil.on occassion it happens once, maybe twice in a commute.on other occassions, such as this morning, it is much more frequent.it feels as if i am losing control of the car.there is no rhyme or reason as to when it happens - it happens in dry weather, wet weather (when it is particularly scary), when the outside temperature is warm and when it is cold.

*sc

1999 chevrolet tahoe- steering problems.steering wheel inconsistently loses tension and offers too much play - causing dangerous jerking and unpredictable swerving.

Dt*:the contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the steering wheel locked. When the steering wheel locked the wheel was curved to the left, causing the vehicle to collide with a roadside tree. There was a police report filed.the vehicle was taken to a private repair shop, where the cause of the problem was notdetermined.

When turning steering wheel to left, then letting it go it will not go back to original position, vehicle keeps turning left. Vehicle has been taken to dealer 3 times, cannot remedy the problem. Dealer stated this was normal.

When driving in cold weather and turning to left, steering wheel will lock up, causing driver to lose control of vehicle. Dealer has seen vehicle and can't fix it.

I own a 1999 chevrolet tahoe 4wd. I have been experiencing erratic steering while turning at speeds above 30mph as well as it requring manual input to bring the wheel straight at the end of a curve.i will be contacting my local dealer on monday 8/02/04.

Excessive play in the steering wheel, making the vehicle wander and hard to control

Ea99011, while making a right turn steering move back unexpectedly which may cause a loss of vehicle control.dealer said needs to replace the steering box.please provide further information.

Intermittently when making a right turn, steering wheel disengaged for a brief moment.the dealer has repaired the power steering box.

Power steering is erratic on curves, mostly to the left.tends to oversteer suddenly when engaged.very tricky when road conditions are not optimal,i.e., rain.happens intermittently so it can catch you offguard.danger of an accident is imminent if not corrected soon.

Power steering assist unit became overpowered at high speed.this caused the truck to handle upredictably when small steering inputs where used.it was hard to keep the truck on the road and in one lane.the problem was fixed by replacing a steering sensor but the problem is begining again.

When turning right, steering wheel will jerk and vehicle will rock and swerve due to evo sensor module. Had evo sensor replaced. Dealer contacted.the evo sensor controls the power steering pump, the sensor is located in the steering column near the firewall on the cabin side.

Steering feels like it is slipping or overpowered rt turns. The center position is gone when making a right turn. You need to turn the wheel back to center which can require multiple adjustments of the wheel causing swerving. Problem i am told be chevy dealer is common and caused by evo sensor.

The power steering failed, which caused the vehicle to jerk to the right.

Erratic power steering assist. Steering wheel input of approximately 15 degrees to the left results in unwanted additional left turn. Most noticable at speeds greater than 40mph.

Driver experienced a sudden momentary loss of power steering.yh

When driving vehicle, the steering jerks to the right and then is ok for awhile and then jerks again to the right. It is like someone jerks on the steering wheel.

Power assist would cause too much assist causing vehicle to swerve suddenly. Failed part was sensor at bottom of steering column. Part failure common according to dealer parts salesman.

I have a 1999 chevy tahoe.the steering wheel jerks itself like someone grabs the steering wheel.it is very noticeable on two lane curvy roads.it feels like the truck hits a patch of ice.i have not had it repaired yet but was told by a service adviser that my truck has speed sensitive steering - it has an electrical wire hooked to the power steering pump to provide slow driving assistance.i am told that it sounds like the sensor or evo sensor for this system is bad.i have replaced the power steering pump to no avail.my step daughter has a 1997 chevy 1/2 ton pick up with the same problem.she has had dobbs auto disconnect the system.i think this isvery dangerous especially if you over- correct when the pressure changes or briefly gives way as i would describe.i wonder how many crashes are caused do to this gremlin in the steering system.the service manager as my local chevy dealer seems to be aware of this problem.

Failure caused steering at speed to be dangerously sensitive and steering would torque to the right or left when decelerating on an off-ramp when sensor tried to switch level of steering assist, as if running off road onto shoulder.dealer states this is a problem they have seen and replaced sensor out of warranty.was not obvious what the problem was until i realized the vehicle had speed sensitive steering.most drivers would never realize failure had occured.significant probability of contributing to a loss of control accident.

The hydraulic power assist sytem does not function properly is is a very dangerous problem. The steering wheel "slips" at high speed cause the vehicle to swerve suddenly while going around corners. Itook the vehicle to the dealer to have this problem repaired, but after $1,000.00 of repairs, the problem still exists.

Steering wheel doesn't come back after turning, which contributed to consumers accident.yh

The sway bar in the front right passenger side of my 1999 chevrolet tahoe broke while driving the vehicle causing the right arm of the sway bar to hang by itself while the rest of the sway bar is still connected through the front and across to the left front side of the vehicle.

My 1999 chevy tahoe was just diagnosed with a fatal case of frame rust.i purchased the vehicle new and have had it maintained by qualified and certified mechanics, as required.on nov. 23, 2009 i brought the vehicle in for a scheduled oil change before i went on a trip.they notified me that the brake lines were almost rusted through and that the vehicle was not safe.they had to replace the brake lines.when the vehicle was put on the lift they saw that the frame had severe rust throughout.the plate on the differential was so bad that they were concerned that it may rust through.the final diagnosis was that the vehicle may not be serviceable in one or two years.the vehicle only has 66,000 miles and is on otherwise excellent condition.i saw the recall on the same year tacoma tacoma trucks and it seems like this is the same syndrome of a truck frame rusting out before it should.i think that chevrolet should recall these vehicles the same as toyota and remedy the problem.i invested over $35,000 in this vehicle and i would not have purchased it if i thought it would rust out in only 10 years of service!i feel defrauded.

My tahoe has been brought in for repairs 6 times for a knocking or crunching noise when turning stopping or going over bumps.the dealer has changed both rear springs, shackles, u-bolts and re-tourqued the front control arms, trans cross member bolts, fuel tank mounting straps and brackets to proper specs.the vehicle contiues to make this noise.

Vehicle drifted hard to the right. After repairs drifted to the left, the vehicle wandered on the road. Also, there is alot of play in the steering, more than it should be.dealer contacted and stated the problem was a characteristic of the vehicle, and could not duplicate the problem.

I have 99 tahoe i purchased new, i know its old , but its was always a 3rd vehicle, only 188,000 miles on it, just writing to let people know the entire frame rusted out ,always garaged, brackets for shocks etc, something iswrong when these cars can last longer then this, car was in being serviced every 3,000 miles, and not once did they say there was any issues.

Leaf springs hitting nerf bars. Previously notified don hewlett chevrolet dealer october 13, 1998 with 11,694 miles during 12k mile checkup. During review we checked another tahoe which also had the exact wear/damage markings on the nerf bars. Referred to covert dealership where vehicle was purchased. Vehicle in for service at covert dealership, this is one of the items to be inspected/repaired. Service manager (danny nichols) indicated the nerf bars only fit one way and no adjustment is possible. I'm concerned that continued damage caused by the nerf bars design going too far back under the vehicle allowing the leaf springs to bottom out and damage the nerf bars will create a safety hazard. Damage to nerf bars may in time cause corrosion and weak spots which may break while passengers are exiting / entering vehicle. In addition, continued wear and tear by leaf springs contacting nerf bars may cause bent leaf springs and noise from bent leaf springs.i have not checked any suburbans but they may also experiance this as well.

Truck pulls to one side, brakes shoes found to be cracked, master cylinder leaks

The vehicle had no stability while driving, the consumer stated the vehicle moved in different directions.

I doing research i noticed another common complaint from others about something i am also experiencing.when traveling at high speeds, my steering wheel will jerk.for instance, when i am changing lanes, my steering wheel will jerk, causing the wheel to turn more than i want to.this causes a real sharp turn, and i am afraid that i will one day lose control and flip my vehicle with my children inside with me.is there something i need to do to fix this?i also submitted a complaint about abs failure and want to know if there is something i can do about that, also.

Vehicle experiencing vibration whenever it reaches highway speedof approximately 60 or more mph. Vibration coming from the front end of vehicle. Vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on five occasions, and problem still reoccurs. Can nhtsa help inthis matter.

When we took delivery of vehicle, we noticed it was sitting at an angle to the ground (it sagged down 1 1/2 to 2 inches on the left rear) it looked as though the body was twisted. We were assured that any problem would be taken care of. We took back the vehicle to be repaired several times, 4 times we got a rental vehicle to use. The first time we left the vehicle, they changed the gas tank because it had a 9 gal. Dent in it although the skid plate had no damage whatsoever; the bumper was misaligned; the taillamp was protruding as well as the rear-lower portion of the passenger's rear window(too much glue) and the tires were cupping. They have had the truck to aligned and balance tires, however we had a goodyear dealer rebalance those same tires to get the vibration out to no avail. Courtesy swapped different rims and tires from another tahoe. Now it vibrates even more! we were told to be @ courtesy on 6/14/99, that they would have a machine that would pinpoint the source of the vibration. When we got there they didn't have the machine and instead sent a mechanic on a roadtest with us. We were pointing out the vibration to him. He then took us out in another '99 tahoe, this time the ride was smooth, however the mechanic said that it had a low speed vibration(which it did not). We were then told that they could work some figures on another vehicle. We called the next day and we were told that if we gave them $2,500.00 more dollars, we could get the identical vehicle on their lot. First of all, we spent more than the sticker price and had the add-ons taken off with no credit given to us for that. Second of all we were told this was a new vehicle w/ only a few miles on it. After we got in the truck to go home(after it was paid for), we notice that the vehicle had 732 miles on it!!! they sold a damaged demo as a new vehicle. Most of the miles put on this truck are from running it up to phoenix and back. We had pre-arranged service times and were turned away several time

This veh. Has been in the shop 7 times and problem is the same. At high speeds the front end vibrates. When you go around a curve at certin speed and hit a bump you lose control of the vehicle. This has happened twice to me . One time i lost partial control into oncoming traffic at 75mph. They have blamed the tires (although they replaced them 5 times) they have realigned the front, balanced the tires endlessly and tried everything they could think of and accomplished nothing. This is truly a dangerous to have on the road and is going to kill someone one of these days.

Ever since i purchased this auto i have been complaining about a front end problem.the auto dealer kept telling me it was nothing.sensing it was a male/female problem i took my son in one day and they finally looked and said it was because i had "glazed brakes".the siutation did not improve after the so called fixed it.shortly thereafter, i noticed something very funny about the tire on the front passenger side of my vehicle.i had already had the tires rotated so there would be not reason for excessive wear and bubbling on one tire only.i then took the auto a front end alignment shop.it was determined that the front end was out over 3/4" and could not be aligned without proper manufacturer adjustment of the holes.they refused.chevy has acknowledged this problem by manufacturing the elongated hole on the 2000 model.please be aware that neither chevy or my dealership would assist us.i was able to pay for this repair and have it done before i had a major front end blow out.please, please make this information available to the public before we start reading about tahoes as well as fords.

I am unable to get the recall taken care of by a dealership due to the age of the vehicle

While merging and acelerating vehicle loses steering control, forcing vehicle into a guardrail. Manufacturer notified. Feel free to provide any further information on this matter.

While pulling out from a parking lot at 15mph and when picking at speed at 30 to 40 mph, vehicle accelerated at 40 mph and kept accelerating.consuemr applied the brakes, and the vehicle kept accelerating. When the consumer got to a red light, turnedvehicle off, and when restarting, vehicledid'nt accelerate.

Vehicle does not slow down when accelerator pedal is released, unable to rectify problem due to possible design defect. Mjs

Cruise control automatically engaged without anyone activating the cruise control device, whatever speed that was accelerated to was automatically engaged with the cruise control, when the brakes were applied the cruise control did not disengage as it should.

Vehicle does not decelerate when consumer takes foot off gas pedal.

Vehicle fails to slow down when accelerator is released.when releasng the accelerator i notice that tachometer remains at the same rpm.at first this trouble was intermittant but has progressively failed more often until now it is continous.the only way to slow the vehicle down is by braking using the vehicle's brakes.when the engine braking was working ok, about two seconds after taking your foot of the accelerator it would slow down properly.i contacted the dealer on 2/22/2001 and he supposedly took it for a test run, however, the odometer in and out were identical, 26528 miles.when i contacted them again, their latest response was that they all do that and there is nothing i can do to have it corrected.i feel that if the problem is not corrected shortly it will cause premature brake failure because of excessive braking which could lead to an accident.

While trabeling on highway depressed the gass pedal, and vehicle stalled without indications, engine checklight came on. Dealer has been notified, also manufacturer.

I was driving from sc and attempted to turn on the wipers and they didn't work. I pull to the side and waited a few minutes and they just started working. I check the fuse but they were good. This has happened several times on the last year.

Driving my vehicle down the road in the rain try to turn on windshield wiper an nothing happened so i had to pull over until i could see good enough to get back on the road to drive an that's always happens to me.

Rear view mirror disconnected from glass.

Heater/air cond. Fan switch fails to actuate fan intermitently, causeswindows to fog up during rain or cold, in winter can not defrost winshield.have noticed same problem in other tahoe's from 1998 and 1999 production years.creates hazerdous visability during driving.

Three individuals at my work have had the knob fail which prevents the defroster from working creating a hazard with iced windows.dealer was smug and noted that they replace lots of these.the failure of the knob is internal to the module and prevents an easy inexpensive fix.repair is 285.00.

On four ocassions i have had cold air blow out of my heater after the engine temperature gauge was over 100 degrees.after contiuously moving the control knob on and off, eventually, sometimes an hour later the heat comes on.this just started to occur this year.by the time i was able to get to a dealer there was heat coming out and they could not find any problems.when there is cold air coming out, you can depress the "flow thru air and air conditioning" buttons and the light on these buttons do not illuminate.when the heat comes back on, the lights on these buttons illuminate.i have told this to the dealer but their "diagnostic" check, again, shows no problem.it appears to me that this could be an electrical problem or a bad switch.just the other day, two days ago, when this last happened, i had the radio on am and when i moved the heat switch from "off" to "on" this created static on my radio.

While turning on the defogger water was leaking from the vents.also, drivernoticed thatvehicle was running hot. Drive took vehicleto the dealer for inspection and mechanic determined that the heater core andhead gasket needed to be replaced.

Power window is completely inoperable, and unfortunately is in the down position. 2000 suburban at work-same problem except r.r. Window, and it is in the up position.

Over a two week period both side view mirrors fell off the vehicle. Gm/chev. Would like me to purchase the entire assembly for $280.00 each times 2 or $580.00. I checked with auto parts recylclers they can't keep them in stock. It is a very common problem. The adhesive will not stand up to temperature variations.

The consumer was unable to roll up the rear powered windows. The engine warning light also illuminated while vehicle was being operated. The cause was not determined. Please provide more information.

Rear windshield wipers failed on their own.

Problems with windshield wiper equipment working intermittently. *mr the windshield wipers were working, then all of a sudden stopped working for about 10 seconds, then had come back on.there was a recall that did not include the consumers vin.a computer chip was found to be defective.the wipers were intermittent and hesitated in the rain from one second up to thirty seconds at no particular interval. *scc

Consumer stateswindshield wipers are inoperative when wet. Dealer states vehicle is not included in the recall due to vin.

While driving at 40 mph, the consumer smelled smoke and noticedsmoke was comingfrom the left door the panel, the consumer pulled over and heavy smoke entered the vehicle.as a result, the door panel melted.the consumer indicated there was a recall regarding the same problem, nhtsa recall 03v093000,pickup trucks may develop a short circuit in the electric outside rearview mirror switch.please provide further information.*sc

Dt: the contact stated while driving the driver's side door developed a short circuit in the electric rearview mirror switch and caught on fire. He was able to put the fire out with thewater hose.the manufacturer sent an inspector to estimate the damage, and the vehicle was repaired.updated 1/11/2006 - recall 03v093000 was initiated but it only covered the 1997 and 1998 models.

While parkedpower side view mirror switch caught on fire. As a result, the plastic on the door was damaged.

Windshield wipers/washer fails to either start or to continue wiping when on. They just "stop" for no apparent reason.

Intermittent inoperative windshield wipers. Same as recall 98v150001.has been going on for a year.i now know what the problem is.

Intermittently while driving at any speed the windshield wipers did not work properly.this problemoccurred ten times in the last three months.tahoe had a recall on the wiper motor circuit board and cover on the 1994 through 1997 vehicles. *sc

Windshield wipers failed while driving in moderate rain resulting in near zero visibility through the windshield. Symptoms are exactly as described in nhtsa campaign #03v159000. Vehicle affected is a 1999 chevrolet tahoe and chevrolet customer service representatives say this vehicle is not affected by the recall issued for 94 through 96 model vehicles.*la

Windshield wipers on my 1999 chevrolet tahoe suddenly stopped, then become intermittent, then may work fine for a few minutes then stop again.acts like there is an intermittent issue with the circuit board for the wipers.very dangerous to happen when i was driving in hard rainstorm.

Windshield wipers are erratic in operating. Sometimes they will not work at all , or start and stop on their own. Intermittent operation is almost non-exisistant. You have to either tap on the motor under the hood or pull on the arms to get them to work.sometimes you have to wait for the rain to stop so you can continue to drive.this has been an ongoing problem for months and i have called several dealers in my area with my only option was to pay for the repairs. I have since talked to a lot of other owners that have the same problem.

Drove into rainstorm.turned on wipers.after two sweeps, they quit, but motor continued to run.pulled into service station.attendant raised hood, jiggled the wiper wiring harness. Wipers worked; then quit.repeated jiggle; wipers worked until i reached home.checked with local chevrolet dealer. No recall listed, but service agent said she was familiar with problem and had seen it on several other chevrolets.*la

Intermittently when the windshield wipers areengagedthe motor buzzes but the wipers don't engage. A service rep,.told the consumer to bang on the casing when this occurs. The truck's vin # is not included in the windshield wiper recall03v159000.... If gm knows ther eis a problem with this wiper motor and has recalled certain vins. I see no reason why my vin shouldn't be considered- aproblem-is a problem-since this model was on early 1999-purchased in may of 1998. Is it possible it has parts that were recalled on other vehicles earlier models. I do not feel i should have to pay on other vehicles, earlier models? i do not feel i should hav eto pay for a known problem tha tis a factory recall.

Windshield wipers don't always work. Sometimes they will turn on but not turn off. Delay function almost never works. Several times they have failed to work at all.

Frequent recurring failure of front wipers.most recent: nov 18, nov 20 and nov 23, 2004.wiper will quit in mid-sweep.remedy: raise hood, jiggle wiring harness plugs on gear box and/or tap on front of gear box.remedy may work hours, days or weeks.

When drivingin the rain windshield wipersfailed and resulted in poor visibility.the consumer had too off to the side of the road.consumer contacted the dealership. The dealer replaced the wiper module.

Wipers often fail when in use.they will run stop, run stop.they stop in the middle of the windshield, stop at the bottom of the windshield, stop anywhere.while driving in a rainstorm this is quite dangerous, you are unable to see.i owned a 1997 chevrolet suburban that did the same thing, recall was issued.why no recallon my tahoe.i am sure it is the same problem.do i need to be involved in a traffic accident first?

Vehicle experienced the same defect with itswindshield wiper as stated in recall03 v 159 000.

99 chevrolet tahoethe wipers stop working during use. *nlm

-- faulty solder joints on the windshield wiper motor circuit board.my windshield wipers have intermittently quit working when the switch is turned on. This is hazardous to driving my family during the rain, due to the windshield wipers not working during heavy rain.

Faulty windshield wiper motor failure on 1999 chevrolet tahoe (not covered in gm recall #98043).problem has persisted over 6 months during intense rainy season in central florida.i commute between 2 military bases macdill afb in tampa, and patrick afb in cocoa beach where wife and daughter are stationed.

While driving in rainy weather front windshield wipers failed intermittently.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. A recall was issued for this problem but the consumer's vehicle was not included due to vin.

Vehicle experienced the same defect with its windshield wipers as stated in recall 03 v 159 000; but thisvehicle not included in recall due to vin.

I have a 1999 (manufactured april 1998) chevrolet tahoe.was returning home with family in middle of thunderstorm, when windshield wipers totally stopped working. Had a heck of a time making it home safely. Immediately took tahoe to dealer, where after mis-diagnosis of problem, was finally resolved with replacement of $400 wiper motor.i know that there was a recall of 97 models and this was manufactured in april of 1998. Could there be a link? chevrolet/gm has stated in no uncertain terms, they will not fix this under a safety issue, and i am on my own. Not only is this the 1st vehicle i've ever had a wiper motor go bad, but that coupled with the recalls of the prior year's ??? that's my complaint. *nlm

Windshield wipers will either quit working while engaged or will not come on , the motor will just run. Recall 03v159000 was issued on this make/model; however, this vehicle was not included due to vin.

Windshield wipers failed intermittently. There was a recall issued; however, this vehicle was not included due to vin.*tc

Loosing air pressure from all 4 tires. Tires in good shape. Could not understand why loosing pressure. Caused vehicle to pull in whatever direction of tire pressure loss. Sometimes pulling really hard and making vehicle hard to handle. Could not let my teen learning to drive to drive this vehicle because of this. Took the vehicle to tire dealer and according to them they have seen this a lot with chevrolet and the chrome dipped rims. What is going on is the inside of the chrome rims is rusting and flaking and causing the air to seep out. The rims have to be sanded down and painted with a special pain in the inside and according to the dealer this is not a long term fix and the rims would have to be replaced. Though they look good these chrome dipped rims could cause a big problem for people who are clueless to watching air pressure in their tires. I watch around and often see these tahoe with low air pressure in the tires. I happen to work on cars myself and have good maintenance habits and can spot things such as low air pressures. Had i not i may been in a accident by now. I bought this vehicle used but had original rims. Also when we bought this vehicle the dealer had to put air in one tire and had it check before we left and all looked good and it was just assumed it was from sitting or something.
