While in motion seat belt would come undone or wouldn't unlock from lock in order to use. Brakes would slip. My boyfriend was killed in an accident because the seat belt malfunctioned which then caused the airbags to malfunction and the brakes stuck so he wasn't able to slow down sufficiently.

Vehicle was involved in a rear collision at about 70mph, causing the vehicle to surge forward intoanother vehicle.upon imapct, the airbags did not deploy, and the seatback collapsed.the manufacturer will be contatced .

Consumer called and stated that she was involved in a collision and none of her air bags deployed and also stated that the front passanger seat belt did not lock which cause the passanger to bang her head on the windshield which also caused her phisical damage and cracked the windshield. Dealer was contacted.ts

Faulty airbags with a high speed head on collision.

Consumer's vehicle was involved ina collision.vehicle flipped over an embankment. It flipped down a hill, and rolled over6 times, andlanded in a ditch. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy.

The windshield wipers intermittently fail on my 1997 chev tahoe.also, have experienced temporary power loss of electrical components.observable affected components are the windshield wipers, all dashboard lights, head lamps and interior lights, accompanied by buzzing sounds.has occurred more than once.has caused near accidents during rainy weather and in poorly lit roadways.

The power window on the driver's side of the vehicle will stop working all of a sudden.it is not all of the time, but sometimes, when i have the window down, and i push the power switch to close or open the window it will not work.this could lead to a very serious problem, if for some reason i am unable to open the door and then the window will not go down.we live in michigan and you recently recalled vehicles because of a problem with the master power window switch causing fires in the driver's side door, which ended up melting and/or burning the door.there must be corrosion of the wiring in my vehicle that is causing theproblem with my window.i know that your recall was not for the same year as my vehicle, but it sounds like the exact same problem and i don't want to end up having my car door catch on fire, especially if me or my family are in it, or if it is parked in our garage it could burn our entire house down.when we purchased this vehicle from the dealership it was brand new, and there have been no other owners.

I am the original owner of a 1997 chevy tahoe. The other day while listening to the expanding recall of gm vehicles i tried to remove my key from the ignition switch. To my surprise once the vehicle is started i can remove my key, shift into any gear and drive without a key in the ignition. Maybe this is due to the age of the vehicle, but it has only 148000 miles on it. Thought you would be interested to know. Could video this issue if you are further interested.

I bought this car at car hop in arlington tx. I was sold it with no brake lights, no hazards, bad tires, bad brakes, one of the back doors will not open, bad battery, bad inspection, no cover for fuel filter, driver side door will not open, keeps dying, spare tire flew off on highway and brakes went out while my kids and i were driving. I am a disabled mother of two and they knew they gave me a bad car. The first i had 5 kids with me and it was a kia mini van didnt even make it home, they had to come tow it. Then thay gave me this tahoe. Please help me i have no other car and it scares me and they will not help me. I am paying every month on this vehicale and went all the way to corporate. They sent me to their mehcanic and he even wrote a e-mail describing the condition and still did not care car hop. Please help me!!!!!! god bless.

The vehicle seemed to be running perfectly,no leaks or smells or warning, 65mphin cruise control and engine caught fire.i was towing a very light trailer, empty. I had a fire extinguisher but it was not able to stop the fire. 1997 tahoe, 97,000 approx miles, bought used summer 03. Previously a federal vehicle in well maintained condition as far as i could tell.

The vehicle would not start due to delco battery failure, which resulted from the battery leaking acid and in securely installed.the windshield washer failed due to the reservior and connection lines damaged by the leaking battery acid.

My steering has locked on me while driving, my car would not start due to crack in the battery and acid leak, my car had to be towed to repair shop due to starter cable popping off. Currently,i am stranded due to my brakes losing power somehow.

Battery failed due to positive post separating from case.this caused battery acid to leak onto front brake line causing brakes to fail.chevrolet contacted and notified but not concerned with potential safety problem.had speed been increased, the possibility of death/serious injury was imminent.several mechanics in local area stated that acdelco batteries have a history of this type failure.

They have replaced the battery 3 times and removed an add on feature that they blamed for the drain on the electrical system.i requested copies of all records for this vehicle but were never given them.

Had come to a stop, was making left turn, steering failed to operate & could not make turn. Vehicle could go straight. Battery light came on. Vehicle towed to mechanic. Noticed tensioner belt had broken. Had no warning that it broke.

Battery case cracked, fluid leaked out and corroded and thus requiring replacement of the battery cables and the battery. I feel that the original battery cable is too short causing stress on the battery case at the cable mount to the battery, resulting in a cracked case and subsequent damage. Repair costs at dealer $285.53. I see that investigation into this problem has already begun.

Vehicle will not start intermittenly due to a short that dealer could not determine where it was. This defect caused battery to die, consumer had replaced batteries 3-4 times. Also, alternator and door locking mechanism were replaced. Defect is still occurring.

Steering gets loose when warm, maybe somthing wrong with variable assit system, can cause dangerous lane changes.

Have speed sensitive steering, while driving tension on wheel would decrease & would lose control; would swerve off road; speed would vary; happens on straightaways, but often on curves; happens intermittenly; took to dealer & informed working like it suppose to.

My steering has locked on me while driving, my car would not start due to crack in the battery and acid leak, my car had to be towed to repair shop due to starter cable popping off. Currently,i am stranded due to my brakes losing power somehow.

Wires inside the fuel tank became so hot that they melted the installation on the wires going to the fuel pump assembly. While driving vehiclecut off twice. Once at 55 mph, and once at about 25 mph. The dealers have changed the fuel pump assembly under warranty.*ml

Consumer states the turn signals are inoperative, the fuses keep blowing out, also hazard lights do not work, the dealer has already replaced fuse once already, but the turn signals still do not work.. Consumer stated the turn switch assembly was replaced.

On 3/24/98 my 1997 chevrolet tahou was 10 months old with 5400 miles on it when the truck caught fire under the driver's side dash while i was driving and was totally distroyed. When the fire started it was late on my way home from a movie with my wife . We smelled smoke and i stopped but couldn't find anything. We had gone a little distance when fire started falling at my feet, i ran off the road and hit some small trees to try to stop the truck then truned across the road and finilly hit a tree big enough to stop the truch. Where i got out and had to pull my wife out and called 911 on my cel phone. My wife had hit her head and was a littlle out of it and passed out on the ground. She passed out again just before the medics got there. The truck contenuied to burn untill the fire dept. Got there to put it out. Gm claims that there has not been any other claims of chevrolet trucks catching fire from the dash in '97 or any other later year trucks and would not take any responcealility for the fire. If there are any other people who have had any thing like this please let me know. R.w. Parker

While driving at 40-60 mph and when turning to the right consumer lost control for a fraction of a second, causing the vehicle to go straight, then pulled to the right. It felt like driving over a patch of black ice.

1997 chevrolet tahoe caught on fire . Updated 03/08/06

I own 2 gm vehicles. A 1997 chevy tahoe and a 2005 gmc yukon. The chevy tahoe isand has(for several years) experiencing severe cooling system malfunctions and has now totally failed requiring expensive and extensive repairs. I have always followed the owner's guide and the manufacturer's recommendations as to using only "dex-cool" coolant and as a result it's use has caused the described failures to occur. The use of "dex-cool" has corroded and eroded all of the components in my vehicle's cooling system from the water pump, radiator, hoses, thermostat, heating core, etc. Gm is denying that "dex-cool" played any role in these failures and therefore i must pay out of my own pocket for the repairs that gm knew would result from "dex-cools" use. My vehicle overheated and shut-off several times while on the highway and each time i was amid traffic traveling at "highway speeds". It was very dangerous! each time that it occurred i had the vehicle towed in for repairs and i was told to flush and refill with fresh coolant and that would solve the overheating/shut-off problem. The service was performed as per gm specifications and requirements each time. This most recent time is when the coolant "spilled" out from the water pump area and left me stranded once again. This time i was informed of the problems that now exist inside my cooling system and the expensive costs that i would incur for the repairs, replacements and "flushes" that would be needed in order to get my vehicle back on the road. All of the various mechanics and research into this matter have one common factor and that is the use of "dex-cool"!

Dt*:the contact stated while driving the vehicle on the highway on normal road conditions, the engine suddenly stalled without any warning lights.it was also very difficult pulling over and controlling the vehicle without power steering and power brakes.this failure has been occurring since january 20th, 2006 and it has occurred about 100 times.the vehicle has been taken 10 times to various chevrolet service dealers for this problem.it was also taken to two auto repair shops with independent certified mechanics.diagnostic testing results from all dealerships and independent mechanics showed no malfunctions.

Engine appears to miss at highway speeds with air conditioner on.

Vehicle stalling due to failure of the fuel pump, however after replacement of faulty pump stalling continues.

The vehicle experienced stalling and no starting.after replacing the fuel filter and the fuel pump relay, without success, the fuel pump assembly was removed from the tank.the wiring to the fuel pump and the fuel guage sender was melted together, and a great deal of the insulation was melted off one of the wires going to the fuel pump.the particular wire that was melted/burnt shows severe discoloration in the metal of the wire itself, as if from extreme heat.this is on an in-tank assembly!

While traveling noticed engine idled. Also, when making a stop noticed a leak under vehicle. Please provide further information.

Air condition surges.

Air conditioner compressor failed.yh

Air condition compressor fell apart.

While driving spare tire fell fromvehicle. Dealer has remounted the tire.

Ongoing problem with brake light failures.this has happened several times over the last few years.i ordered the tahoe through my local dealer in 1997.it only has 84,000 miles on it and has not been abused in any way.spent several hundred dollars at the dealership for repairs.the brake lights keep going out.the dealer cannot explain it.i received a ticket on february 15, 2008 for not having any brake lights.this is a dangerous situation which needs resolution.when i took my vehicle to the dealership the first time for the brake lights it cost me over $500.00.the brake light situation has never been resolved and ever since their "repair" the antilock brakes do not function correctly and we have had to have the brakes replaced several times.

Near miss with deer due to headlight lens obscurity:- while driving down fm 2252, i almost struck a dog that was walking toward the road- the plastic headlight cover has become fogged and nearly opaque, leading to obscured visibility and greatly decreased the distance the light carries- new headlight lenses (~$240 a piece) were obtained.

Plastic headlight lenses have become cloudy reducing light projected onto the roadway ahead.frequently the headlights of a vehicle following are so much brighter then mine that i can see the center line better in their lights.you can't drive safely if you can't see the road and lane markings.

The turn signals quit working at the dealer and they never did pin-point it.the 4wd system engaged on it's own at 75 mph and the trans, cut out resulting in no power and then it returned but the 4wd system was gone.the barkes failed and then started working ok.the parking brake was in need of adjustment every 2000 miles.the abs would kick in for no reason.

The vehicle stalled without warning. It was determined, the fuel pump module and connector, had melted.

Wires on outside of fuel pump are fused. Second time in 20,000 miles.after many hours of tracking down problem, dealership is stumped, says it is a fluke. They originally found a blown fuse under hood, a faulty fuel relay which blew the fuse, and now a faulty fuel pump wiring assembly which they claim is responsible for everything. Seems rather unusual since this is the second time around for the same thing in a little over a years time.

Second time to replaced fuel pump&module, steering gives out on corners with no warning.

Fuel pump failed at high speeds, causing vehicle to cut off completely.seal between the housing and the tank had to be replaced. Consumer stated that the fuel pump failed, while traveling on highway at 65 mph, when the engine shutdown without warning, the problem was traced to a gasket between the pump and housing that failed.

Windshieldwipers work occasionally on high, but most of the time not when it is e fuel pump has had to be replaced two times and does not give a warning that it is going to to quit. The steering has a bad place in it a approx. 50mph going around a curve and will pull harder in to the curve, either there something wrong with parts to this truck or i have a lemon.i have spoke with others and their wipes do the same thing.

While driving at about 35mph, engine lost power completely. Consumer says luckily they were able to make it to the other side of the road.with engine going had he been in a lot of traffic there could have been a serious accident.also, fuel pump malfunctioned.

Vehicle's fuel pump has failed six times since new purchase once on expressway causing near fatal accident.

Dt*: the contacted stated the engine bucked and hesitated when the accelerator was depressed, then the engine stalled. The vehicle was towed to the service dealer where the defective fuel pump was replaced three times. The manufacturer was notified.

Fuel pump had to be replaced 4 times due to melting of wires within the assembly. Dealer can't find solution.

Due to problems with fuel pump vehicle is not getting enough gas while driving. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.

In 3 years we have replaced 6 fuel pumps.replacements have ranged anywhere from 1 hour to 2 years.i paid for the first replacement but the 4 others were under warranty but not without a major battle with gm.the last and most current dealership will not pay for due to a 2 yeartime period had elapsed since last failure but did issue a $1000 coupon off our next vehicle.

Fuel pump has failed 4 times previously. Fixed it myself this time after chevrolet refused to pay for it.no problems since.power steering assist is very jerky.goes in and out without warning.saw other complaints and decided i should report this one as well.

While drivingtransmission began to slip and engine check light came on vehicle slowed down in highway traffic had to coast to nearest service station and had vehicle towed to dealership was told that transmission needed to be replaced.also, fuel pump had failed simultaneously since incident fuel pump has been replaced 3 times and counting.

The fuel pump and fuel line failed without warning, while driving.

Fuel pump stopped working and was replaced.vehicle was driven another 1000 miles when the replacement fuel pump failed (chevrolet fuel pump not after market).the wiring harness going to the fuel pump was melted and there were burn marks on the underside of the car.mechanic stated the wiring harness was coming lose from the connection with the fuel pump and arcing to the vehicle underbody.

I purchased a used 1997 chevrolet tahoe and since that time the fuel pump has gone out 5 times, once in april, june, september, twice in october and in november.the latest incident was on 12/06/06.i have yet to find a mechanic who can tell me the problem that i'm experiencing.the wiring seems to faulty is all i hear.please help!!!!

The location of the fuel linecauses it torub against another part which resultsin aa fuel leak, and may catch on fire.dealer does not have the parts available, common problem.please provide further information.

The fuel pump and fuel line failed without warning, while driving.

In july the fuel filter was replaced in santa fe, nm.in august i was driving on i-25 to castle rock , colorado and 1-1/2 mile from the exit to castle rock, the car suddenly lost power and stopped running.was able to get the car to the shoulder but it was very scary.there was barely room for the car between the very busy interstate and the ditch on the other side of the shoulder.i had the car towed to castle rock, they couldn't repair it until a part was ordered and received from denver, so i rented the last car rental in castle rock and drove home.then went back two days later to pick up my car.this was very costly to me because the towing was covered by my insurance, but the other costs were my responsibility.it cost $130.90 in santa fe to replace the filter ($91.50 labor) at the santa fe chevrolet dealership.the cost to replace the pump module and strainer was $533.80 ($232.00 labor) at the south street automotive as no chevrolet dealership was available.the rental car cost was approximately $300.00.i can understand replacing a fuel filter on a three-year car perhaps, but the other failure (for which there was no warning) was not only very costly but a very scary safety hazard.

Gas tank is supposed to hold 30 galons but only holds about 24 gallons.

Gas tank has failed two times resulting in gasoline expulsion.

When attempting to changefuel pump consumer noticed that insidegas tank there were burned wires. Dealer had acknowledged the problem to be common, and replaced the tank.

This failure could have resulted in serious fire. Mechanic replied he was very suprised when the vehicle did not catch on fire due to the fule tank module wires being burnt to the inside wall of the gas tank. The only indication of the problem at time of driving was a total system shut down on the road.

Gas tank failed resulting in leaking.

Unexplained illumination of interior dome and map light, not sure was the reason is at this point. They will time delay off then come on again by themselves. Follow up if problems deteriorates further.

Interior door handle mechanism failed.

Emergency brake handle broke.

Transmission started to shift real hard from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd gears after driving on highway for 30 minutes. Drove this way for 3 years. Had trans rebuilt june 2003 at 68k miles and went on road trip 900 miles and problems started while on my vacation trip. Had to have the valvebody replaced at the cost of $400 while on vacation. I was told that was why my transmission burned up time.brakes started when the dealer replaced a leaking master cylinder. I brought it back for a spongy / low pedal and was told there was nothing wrong and there was nothing gm would do about it. Still stuck with spongy / low pedal

Transmission:i believe the part is called the reverse drum in the transmission.the car would not reverse and had a difficult time shifting from 1rst to 2nd.the first transmission went out at 32,700 miles and replaced by gm (under warranty) with rebuilt transmission from factory per gm, for same problem, shifting and reverse.since car manufactured in 1997 this is it's third transmission and it has less than 66k miles on it and is used 99% of the time for open road trips only.when i had this problem again i was driving on an open highway (road trip).per repair shop mechanic: reverse drum was defective, cheaply built and constructed to fail.also, my vehicle transmission was the mechanic's 16th chevrolet transmission repair for the same problem on chevrolet vehicles in the last couple of years.he knew what the problem was when i explained what had happened re: noises, and how it drove, reverse etc... And he verified same by the transmission check and work performed. He saved the part for me, which i have in my possession. Gm would not participate in any of the cost of repairs since i decided not to let them tear the transmission down @ $300.00 cost to me to determine the problem, and , if i decided i wanted someone else to do the work, they would have to come pick the broken down transmission and haul it away to work on it.in the event i would have the dealer do the work, then it would have cost me approx. $3,000.00 worst case scenario, and maybe gm would assist but not sure if they would help or not or at what level.since they repaired the first transmission and it went out at approx. 32k miles after that, i did not have a comfort level that they would do a good job or that it would be repaired.i was stuck on a road in the early evening with my elderly mother and my sister in the vehicle with me upon our return from a day and evening trip to ruidoso nm, located approx. 2.5 hours from my residence when the transmission went out.

The brakes abs system activates at every stop when the car downshifts from 2nd to 1st gear and when parking.speed sensors have been replaced twice at dealership and still a problem.*la

When putting vehicle into neutral the vehicle will be in drive, and when putting it in reverse it will be in neutral.when putting the vehicle in park, the vehicle will be in drive.the rpm meter works, and the consumer can see when shifting while driving.

The automatic transmission failed.

My 1997 chevrolet tahoe transmission just failed. Have no 2nd, 4th or reverse gears, always worked perfect until now. After a web search found out this problem is happening very much. Sun gear shell breaking on 4l60e transmissions. There is a big defect and gm has done nothing to fix the problems to all the gm owners. Seems they cut back a little much on quality control this time and don't seem to care about it from what i have seen. You probably heard about it before. Please help us get this problem recalled. I have not had any repairs done yet. Keep hearing $2000 to $2500 t0 fix this $40 part. Dealers want to replace transmission with new one just of this porblem. Does it seem right to you?

Proud owners of 1997 tahoe. In the past year we have: replaced rear axle seals twice, replaced the fuel pump and filter, replaced the 4x4 motor, repaired the radiator, replaced 4x4 actuator, replaced fuel injector (third time), replaced the upper intake gasket, had the transfer case rebuilt, replaced the alternator twice, replaced the manifold gasket and a fuel nozzle. Car has had recurring problem of coolant disappearing from reserve tank while no leaks could be found. When this happens and level gets low the vehicle will shift very hard from first to second almost jumping when you hit ten mph. When you stop and add coolant this stops. The last time it happened the engine light came on. The leak has finally been located in a very small hose but now i'm being told that the transmission is going out quickly and must be replaced. Great vehicle!

While putting vehicle in parkrear end fell apart.gears broke and axle released. Vehicle started to roll backward and could not be stopped.dealer contacted. Please add vin.

Automatic transmission failure. Extremely common to my 97 chevy tahoe. Required complete rebuild and lots of money. I called probably a dozen transmission repair facilities and almost all said i was lucky i made it to so many miles before this happened as it is very common in this transmission. All say it comes from a structurally flawed in design piece in the trans that breaks and of course completely contaminates the trans with metal and destroys the majority of the remaining parts.

While traveling notice vehicle shifting hard with noise. Dealer has repair three times, but problem returns. Please provide further information.

Have a 1997 tahoe two door 4x4 with126,000 miles... Transmission housing cracked yesterday.upon investigation i see that chevrolet has known about this problem for over ten years and have yet to correct the problem.i am very disappointed with chevy. And their quality of workmanship.i hope something will be done about this for the american consumer.should have bought a toyota like my friends said ha ha.seriously, quality should come before profit!!!!.

Noticed a humming vibration under acceleration. Had transmission serviced but problem persisted. Then while traveling at highway speed (70) with cruise control engaged the vehicle suddenly lost power and rpms jumped way up. Vehicle was then towed to a local transmission shop where it was found that the transmission cases was cracked. The crack occured due to the u-joint breaking. The u-joint could have been repaired for under $100 but now to fix the truck will cost $1700. Bad design in my opinion.

Normal driving conditions: light traffic, non-towing, non-four-wheel drive

Suddendly and without warning driver heard a loud "bang, after driving a few hundred more feet the vehicle would not shift into second gear or into reverse, vehicle towed to dealership for transmission failure. *cj

Reported clunking noises for the past year, on our 2nd transmission is 2 1/2 mos.

The abs system would kick in for no reason and didn't matter what the road surface was.the vehicle would pull excesively to the crown of the road, if you took your hands off the sterring wheel, you would end up in a ditch in less than two seconds.the cruise control would work when it wanted to, same as the horn.the brakes would pulsate.it went through one of the front pads every ten thousand miles; the other three padshad over 50% left.the transmission would shift way to early from first to second; causing the vehicle to alomost quit accelerating because of the lack of power.

After driving for 20 to 25 miles then coming to a stop.when you take off again car slams into gear from 1st to 2nd.we currently have $1,100. In service bills and still have not been able to have the problem fixed.in doing research found many other gmc owners have the exact same problem.we feel this should be investigated and hopefully recalled as a factory defect.

While driving at highway speed consumer heard a grinding noise.the oil and rpm needles started fluctuating back and front . Also, when this occurred consumer pulled over to investigate. When vehicle was put into reverse it failed to go backwards, hesitated, then jerked into first gear. Prior this incident, transmission was replaced for this same issue.

At about 95,000 miles the service engine light comes on intermiittenly after the truck has been driven 20 to 30 miles, after coming to a stop, the auto transmission shifts from 1st to second so hard, it feels like it is going to come out of the truck.once the truck is put in park and turned off, it is good again until it has been running for 20 to 30 miles.upon doing some online reseach, calling a dealer and local mechanic, i have fount that it can be one of three things:1) a sticking shift valve 2) accumulator piston or 3) a servo.no one can tell what it is without tearing the transmission apart.i have also found this is all too commom a problem for this transmission.should be a recall, wiilll keep me from ever buying another gm product.

After driving 30 miles at highway speed, i stopped to exit the highway. When i began to turn left,i heard a loud clank in the rear of the vehicle.i continued for about 5 more miles and parked the vehicle.after allowing the vehicle to rest for approx. 8 hours,i backed the vehicle out and began driving home.the drive was approx. 30 miles at 75-80 mph.iafter stopping to exit the highway, the transmission made a loud whinning noies as though it was slipping, the engine reved to about 3000rpm befor ethe transmission would shift.this happen ever time i excellerated from a stop or from slow coasting (3 more times in 6 miles).when i arrived home,i checked the fluid level,it was fine and there was no discoloration of the oil or any abnormal smell. When i attempted to back the vehicle,it would not go into reverse,i would drive forward, but the slipping continued when it was road tested by the repair shop.i loaded the vehicle on a trailer and trailered it to a repair shop.the following was found to have failed.the sunshell failed causing debris to be circulated through the transmission.the reverse gear did not function anymore, the torque converter was contaminated with debris and had to be replaced as it could not be cleaned locally.sprage and numerous gears and bands were damaged as a result.total cost of repair with labor and tax....$2453.17. There was no warning or condition that lead up to the failure.the vehicle only has 65,600 miles on it.pretty sad performance for a tranmission designed for this type vehicle.

Consumer slowed down at a light, and when trying to go vehicle started to jolt/ and made a loud noise.contacted dealer, and dealer wanted to replace transmission.

While driving at 65 mph, and without warning, vehicle started to lose speed.rpms went higher than normal. All gears, except 1st and 2nd, failed to work. Please provide further information.

Failure of sunshell and 2-4 band assembly.

The failures initiated back in june (27th) 2001.an hour on the nys thruway from buffalo going towards penn stateline. The transmission blew, throwing fluids everywhere.towed to continental transmission. Paid for the transmission to be replaced.within the end of the 1 year warranty, the transission began slipping and bumping after 2ndgear before going into 3rd.this would occur after the truck was warmed up and following thruway driving. Once you exited the thruway, came to a stop; it started immediatelyand consistently. Seeing as i drove the thruway everyday, the problem occurred everyday. Took tahoe back to continental transmission.they initally didn't see anything wrong and asked that we advise in the future if it got worse.we took it back and forth, losing use of the vehical for weeks at a time.finally, in jan 2004, the tranny just stopped altogether and we had to tow to continental.the truck supposedly had another tranny replacememt, as well as replacement of the computer.once again, we were without the truck for 4+ weeks.we picked it up and the the next day, fluid all over the garage floor (of a newly built home!).took it back, another week went by.picked it up, within another month, tranny was not kicking into 3rd...again.took the tahoe back to continental, supposedly all new parts were put into the tahoe. Yesterday, same problem, tranny not kicking into 3rd, when it tries, the rpm skyrocket to 6000 and you don't accelerate.brought it back to continental this morning.they called to tell me that they don't know what to do.they can't get us a new tranny, maybe a remanufactured tranny, but they will let me know after they contact the dealer.am i the only owner of a 1997 chevy tahoe that has experienced these extensive defects with a gm automatic transmission?this is a travesty! please followup with continental transmission, their number is 716-828-1121, ask for pat, the owner. He is just as frustrated over this as i am!

While vehicle was in motion, the gear shift hit by passenger and went completey back to park.this caused the rear differential to lock up and driver lost control of vehicle.

On or about 7/6/02, my wife was loading our three children into the tahoe (which was parked and running with the ac on due to the heat).after putting the three year old and the four year old in the car, but before securing them in the car seats, the 3 year old went to the drivers seat.he then shifted the car from park to drive without depressing the brake (he is 2 feet tall and can not reach them).the car moved forward striking a retaining wall, causing minor cosmetic damage.fortunatly, no one in or out of the car was injured, although this could have easily not been the case.i am very concerned about this, and would like it looked into.i have been able to duplicate this event (shifting without depressing the brake) every time i have attempted it since the crash incident.i reported the incident to tom, the service manager at tate chevy in annapolis, md, who advised that he was aware of this happening once or twice a year with chevy vehicles.he advised me to have the car checked during our next routine service, or to bring it in to specifically have this problem looked at.i plan to do this as soon as possible, but certainly would prefer chevyrolet to comp the cost of this safety repair. Thank you for your help.

Please help me!!!!!! god bless.

Driving on freeway, brakes faild and rear ended truck at 55mph causing a chain reaction.

Under normal driving conditions (not snow and ice), i have experienced numerous brake failures. On one occasion, for example, in april i was driving at approx 40 mph on a suburban road (no ice or snow) when the traffic light ahead changed from green to red. There was one vehicle in front of me. I applied the brakes as usual, and the abs brakes engaged. The truck shuddered and shook as i was accustomed to feeling when the abs engage in snow and ice. But there was no stopping the vehicle. I was forced to swerve off the raod to avoid hitting the car in front of me. This failure has occurred many times, but the dealer has been unable to reproduce the failure. Other chevy service departments have not found the problem. I called gm and was given a "file number":980 496 553. But gm told me that they have had no other reports of faulty abs and they insisted the dealer is the party responsible for fixing the truck. My truck has spent many many weeks in various dealerships, to no avail. Now i understand that the ntsb has documented thousands of such failures in gm vehicles. But apparently not on 1997 models, only 1992-96 models. Let me inform you that the 1997 model chevy tahoe has the exact same problem as the vehicles that were mentioned in news reports last week, reports that 3.5 million gm vehicles are being recalled to fix the problem. Can you advise me what i am supposed to do since gm has closed the door on my case and insists that there's nothing to be done with my brand new truck. By the way, this problem surfaced within the first month that i owned the truck and has occurred intermittently ever since. Furthermore, many other people who have driven the truck have reported the problem to me, so it's not a problem with my perception of how abs brakes are supposed to work, as gm insists. Please advise me of where i should go to get this matter solved.

I own a 1997 chevrolet tahoe which i purchased from a private party about two years ago. The mileage at the time of purchase was in the mid 20,000, and is now just under 35,000. Having driven just 15,00 miles during the past two years makes it evident this vehicle has not been abused. I have recently experienced frequent problems with the anti lock brake system which often is activated for no apparent reason, resulting in a expensive brake job way before that type of repair would normally be anticipated. My mechanic has seen this same problem in several other general motors vehicles, and is convinced the problem is related to the wheel speed sensors. He is also of the opinion that general motors has known of this problem for some time, yet has failed to issue a recall which would correct the problem without cost to the owner. Why hasn't this been addressed, and are there any plans to do so? thank you.

This occurs every day, all day. It is a well known fact with just about all late model chevy/gmc tahoe/suburban owners, dealers, mechanics & many in the auto publishing indusatry, that these vehicles have extremely inadequate braking systems, bordering on failures & extreme fading & warping & premature wear on the front mechanicals/pads/rotors especially. You can ask just about any mechanic & gm/chevy dealer& they will acknowlege this fact. They even tout that the newer models have such an improved braking system over the previous years. I own a 97 tahoe 1500 & the previous owner & everyone i meet who owns a late model gm truck has the same problems. There are even some independent mechanics who refuse to warranty their work & parts when they do brake jobs on these vehicles. I am talking mostly about the front disc brakes. Have come close to accidents quite a few times due to warped rotors & faded brakes, especially when coming down an incline, even if it is a slight to moderate descent for not a long distance. The brakes need to be replaced more often than any vehicle ihave ever owned & for the technology that is out there. Sometimes every year!!! i cannot believe that these brakes were ever certified safe by the ntsb or ??? and that there are no recalls on this extreme safety hazard to the public.also.. The wiper motor on these vehicles is prone to failure (intermittent or complete,) and is also a well known problem in these circles & a serious sagety hazard as you might expect. Thank you.

While driving at highway speeds around 50 to 60 mphvehicle wanders and drifts to left or right. Dealer has been contacted.brakes do not function properly; extended stopping distance.brakes have been replaced twice. *ml

My wife was driving my 97 chevy tahoe home with my 2 kids in the truck when the rear brake line blew. Luckily she didn't have to come to a quick stop. When she got home i inspected the brakes and found the rear brake line rusted out and looked at the rest of them they are all rusted severely.

Brake failed while driving at 45 mph causing the driver to run a stop light.

When pulling out of driveway, brake peddle went to floor.pulled back into garage to see what caused the problem and found that the brake line running down drivers side frame rail was rusted through back by where it exits the frame to go to the t fitting for rear brakes.

Vehicle has been serviced five times for problems with brakes pulling to the left or right.

Abs engages intermittently, dealer repaired vehicle at consumer's cost and also informed consumer that the vehicle was not covered under manufacturer's recall, front hubs and sensor were replaced.

I am constantly having problems with the braking system on my tahoe. I have had a scraping sound when i first start out in the morning, and also a shake when braking, i have taken it to the dealer where i bought it two times, and he has replaced the pads, and then the drums and rotors. He said that the factory rotors were no good because they couldn't be turned so he installed after market rotors and drums.the second time. The brakes worked fine for a couple of weeks and then begun doing the same thing again.

My steering has locked on me while driving, my car would not start due to crack in the battery and acid leak, my car had to be towed to repair shop due to starter cable popping off. Currently,i am stranded due to my brakes losing power somehow.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

When applying brakes in a sudden stop, the brake pedal would not go down, it would remain in an upright position until applying brakes in a normal condition.vehicle has been to dealer's shop on several occasions, and the problem is still reoccurring.

Repeated rotor and pad warping and premature wear.every 3-4,000 miles.

Dear nhtsa:i am a senior mechanical engineer and owner of a 1997 chevy tahoe 4wd vehicle.i have owned the vehicle since mid-2001.a few months ago i started to notice that periodically, the brakes would not work properly when pulling to a stop.i can hear and feel the abs system pulsing the brakes rapidly, but it provides extremely poor stopping ability.i have had several close calls with cars in front of me, not to mention pedestrians in crosswalks.this is not correct.i am a former engine designer and have worked for ford motor company.i understand mechanical systems and can tell you this isn't good...or safe.i noticed in the paper that there is a known issue regarding gm truck anti-lock brake systems.additional internet research confirmed this.i am logging this complaint so that nhtsa is aware of my problem in the hopes that gm will fix the problem for me.i have not taken the vehicle in for repair yet, as i was researching to see what could be done about it.is nhtsa aware of the best course of action?i live in madison, wisconsin...land of a lot of salt and metal corrosion.please let me know.sincerely, tim higgins.

Abs brakes locked up during a 25-30 mph panic stop.

Major clunk and vibration after braking to a stop

While driving about 65 mph down the mountain when applyingbrake pedal vehicle did not stop.consumer had to place vehiclelow gear to reduce speed, then it stopped.

My 1997 chevy tahoe had the same problem with anti-lock brakes as the batch of trucks in today's gm recall.the anti-lock brakes went on when the car was at very slow speed, like pulling up to a stop light or sign.i paid $300 to a mechanic to clean the same sensor in the recall.why did the recall stop at the 1999 model year?

At slow speeds when the brake is applied, just before the vehicle is about to stop, the brake releases and the vehicle rolls 2-3feet. Before it stops. It has been a great expense to myself replacing brake parts that did not solve the problem.i recently found a service bulletin that describes this problem. I thought it should be repaired at gmc expense for a poor design but they do not agree.the vehicle is a 1997 chevrolet tahoe

Ea94-038;upon depressing the brake pedal in any type of weatherconditionsthe vehicle becomes very difficult to stop.the brake pedal gets very soft, resulting in brake fade away, causing extended stopping distance. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer states there is air in the master cylinder. Please provide futher details.

Anti-lock brake system locked.

Brake pedal goes to floor when braking hard, vehicle does not stop. Complained to two different dealers but they say that the brakes are ok

When applying the brakes, road was a little wet and the pedal went all the way down and the vehicle did not slow at all,hit another vehicle in the rear. Vehicle being repaired at dealership.

Abs brakes lock up when making a right turn. Also replaced ring and pinion gear and front drive axle.

While backing out of driveway, applied the brakes, but vehicle failed to stop, abs system came on prohibiting the vehicle from stopping for some distance even though conditions were dry, vehicle taken to dealership, dealer aware of problem, owner paid for the replacement of two front hubs and would like to be reimibursed. Consumertookvehicleto dealer for a brake job, and the attendant replaced brakes.

No accident yet.my 1997 tahoe is exhibiting the same symptoms as described in the media for 1999 and newer gm trucks regarding the wheel speed sensor for the antilock brakes.stopping from speeds under 5 mph, the brake pedal chatters, the antilock brake unit moans, and the truck is slow to completely stop.this started sporadically last winter and has gotten worse, now about 30% of the time.i called chevrolet's customer service today (10/13/2005) at 11:10, spoke to bagaya bonner who told me the recall affected 2000-2002 tahoes.mine would not be included, and if i had the problem fixed, it would be at my expense (gm would not reimburse since there was no recall on my vehicle).i am using today's date as the incident date, but the problem began late fall 2004 and is ongoing.

Owner has 4-wheel abs brakes, has difficulty in braking, there seems to be excessive play in brakes, pedal must be pressed 2-3 inches before brakes respond. Also passengers side seat belt has problems retracting.

Brake failure.

For about a year i have noticed that the abs braking system activates intermittently on dry pavement at slow speeds, making it difficult to stop the vehicle.the issue has become increasingly problematic, activating nearly every time i apply the brakes (many times even if i don't apply the brakes!) and i am not comfortable driving the vehicle for fear that i may not completely stop before making contact with the vehicle in front of me.although there is a recall regarding the failure of the abs system on chevy tahoes, it does not include vehicles manufactured in 1997.i researched the problem and found that the nhtsa web site had posted a remedy:remove the wheel speed sensor and clean the wheel speed surface, grease the mounting surface, reinstall the wheel speed sensor and check the peak-to-peak output voltage to ensure the wheel speed signal is within specifications.i took a copy of the remedy to my mechanic, who promptly followed the instructions and notified me that the remedy failed to fix the problem.i contacted an nhtsa customer service representative and asked if an investigation has been launched regarding this defect and was informed that there is no investigation as of yet.with all of the complaints i have been reading regarding this problem, my question is:why hasn't this issue of abs system failure in 1997 tahoes been addressed?if the problem is occurring in vehicles (regardless of the year model) and the recall has been limited to only a few year models, does this mean that the abs system failure on the 1997 tahoe is no cause for concern regarding safety?i am requesting the board to look again at the abs complaints and initiate an investigation so that gm will take financial responsibility for the repair or replacement of the abs system.thank you.

While driving 25mphbrakes failed, causing a near accident.

When slowing down the brakes will not engage. When brakes do engage they lock up. The dealer has been notified.

Steering gets loose when warm, maybe somthing wrong with variable assit system, can cause dangerous lane changes.

Abs brakes malfunctioning.abs comes on intermittently even on dry pavement.

Started noticing approx. 1 year ago that the antilock brakes activate at low speeds (less than 10 mph) when it shouldn't (ie: dry conditions, clear road) which makes coming to a complete stop a scary and questionable event.

Dt: the contact owns a 1997 chevrolet tahoe.contact complained thatwhile driving the abs brakes activated. Contact did not even have to be driving he could just put it in gear and the brakes will activate.when driving at speedsless than 15mph abs brakes will activate. No recall campaign #. No crashes. No police reports. No injuries.

Dt*:the contact stated at 10 mph the antilock brakes engage.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, regarding the antilock brakes.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the year.no repairs have been made.

While driving vehicle about 35 mph and whensteppingon the brake pedal to stop vehicle, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.also, whenraining consumer has trouble stopping and loses control of vehicle sometimes.akconsumer stated front and back brakes were replaced twice.

Abs braking system is defective. But, regular brakes do work.but whentraveling in snow or iceabs braking systemtakes longer to stop.dealership is aware of the problem.

Abs system failed at 55097 miles,it should beunderwarranty.

I have been involved / responsible for 2 rear end collisions that have occurred as a result of my abs system not stopping my vehicle.the first time this happened i felt that the brakes did not operate correctly, but continued to operate the vehicle.just last week i was involved in an accident at low speed with more than sufficient stopping distance and the vehicle slid into the rear of other.i have not had any accidents in over 20 years with multiple vehicles and to have two similiar accidents within a year of each other for the same cause leads me to suspect something is wrong.have there been other compliants regarding the abs capability in chevy trucks?

Speed sensors failing on my 1997 chevrolet tahoe.

Dt:the anti-lock brakes do not work properly, when gettingbelow 10 mph the brakes surge and increased in stopping distance.the consumer could hear the brake pedal pulsating. This happens on dry roads. This started happening onjuly 1, 2005. It happened intermittently, and now ithappen every time when the consumercomes to a stop. Contacted the dealer, they charged the consumerto fix the brakes. There is a recall, but only for canada.

Ongoing problem with excessive wear of brake pads. Replacement needed every two -three months.dealer notified, and informed consumer that brake rotors also needed replacement, and it would only be done at consumer's expense because partswere not under a manufacturer's recall. Feel free to provide further details.

When brakes are applied the pedal goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance.vehicle has been into the dealer 4 times for this problem.

Consumer was traveling at 15 mph and applying the brakes, abskicked in and the consumer rear ended the other vehicle.

Intermittently when the brakes are applied the pedal goes partially to the floor, resulting in extended stopping . Dealer has been notified.

Abs system comes on at low speeds without brake pressed-vehicle then is hard to stop and pulls to the right. I have replaced all pads and calipers.machine bled system and replaced left frt speed sensor. Took to dealer and was told that the front hubs are exposed and most of the time tear apart and cleaning solves. When traveling over 30 mph and upon depressing the brake pedal, the brakes pulsate, resulting in extended stopping distance. Consumer also noted that the pedal almost goes to the floorboard. Problem occurs on wet or dry pavement. Cons umer has contacted the dealer.

Under normal braking conditions when applying the brakes there is a long pedal travel, the pedal goes almost (3) quarters to the floorboard before brakes engage. Dealer stated this condtion is normal.

The contact owns a 1997 chevrolet tahoe.the contact stated that the abs engages when the ground is dry and pulsates very hard when stopping the vehicle.the failure was noticed while driving 10 mph.he stated that this should only happen when there is snow on the ground or when it is wet.in november of 2000, there was a voluntary recall and chevrolet repaired the brakes.there were no failures for 18,000 miles.currently, at 40,500 miles, the failure has recurred.the contact called the manufacturer and they stated that there was no recall for the brake failure.the failure mileage was 40,500.updated 10/16/08.*ljthe dealer replaced the left front hub. Updated 10/17/08.

Abs brakes do not work properly, causing extended stopping distance, resulting in a rear end collision .

Brakes are not working correctly when driving and trying to apply the brakes.consumer will push brakes all the way to the floor before the vehicle comes to a stop. Contacted dealer, and the dealer cannot find cause ofproblem.

Abs activation during slow motion, under 10mph.this is the third time i've had this problem.both times one of the hubs had to be replaced.this time i asked the mechanic to clean the sensors (as suggested by chevy service updates) to try and save money.it didn't work along with trying to replace the sensor.now i have to have a hub replaced again.i've been luckily so far because i know of the problem, but i've had a few close calls with hitting cars in parking lots.

Abs brakes; when applying brakes in wet weather, pedal went to the floor and brakes failed to stop the vehicle.

The consumer has been experiencing problems with anti-lock brakes. Whe applied brakes, they went to the floorboard.it was hard for the consumer to stop vehicle.the manufacturer has been contacted.

Intermittently when brakes are appliedthe pedal goes to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance.the dealer has repaired the vehicle several times.

Another vehicle cut in quickly infront of consumer's vehicle.consumer appliedbrakes (abs) & heard hissing noises, like releasing of air, before vehicle stopped. Took vehicle to dealer & mechanic indicated power assist module's rubber diaphragm was badly damaged. It needed to be replaced.

When applying abs brakes on dry pavement, they locked up, causing extended stopping distance, snd resulting ina collision.please give any further details.

Steering and front supension getting very loose .dealer says normal but is not

3rd set of brakes in 29,000 miles. Total brake failure, close call to hitting car in front of me. Could not stop, brake pedal all the way to the floor. Gm & dealership have been no assistance in getting problem resolved.

When backing out of the garage the brakes failed.had i not really pressed on the brakes extremely hard i would have hit the motor home that was across the street from my driveway.i stopped about 5 inches from it.i hate to think what would have happened if this had occured while i was on the freeway and making an emergency stop.this component failed without any notice.it should not have failed at such an early age and is obviously a defect.i called the local dealer , and he told me that there was no service bulletin on the issue, and that i would have to pay for it since it was out of warranty, so i took it to a local shop instead of the dealer.the chevy dealer had the nerve to tell me that it would be about $500 to replace the booster, and they would give me no assurances that the replacement would not fail in the same manner!

Derogate pressure developed in braking system (on damp rainy day.)probable cause: total loss of apparatus . Potenetial result: crash.

At 13000 miles poor braking and noise in front end. Dealer checks brakes finds that specs are met.29000 mi. Brakes are shot and replaced at my expense. Gm says dealer must have misdiagnosed take it up with them even though historical data shows problem reported at 13000 miles.it isn't right that serious injury or death is the wake call that one of the usa's largest corporations needs to step-up to accepting responsibility for a product they engineered, designed, and marketed. I would expect that from china.

Came to intersection at about 30 mph and brakes failed to even slow the vehicle when depressed.the pedal was as firm as always, but it was as if there were no drums or discs on the wheels.my wife had a similar situation a few days earlier and i thought she had just had the abs working and wasn't used to it.there was no abs pulsing.dt

4-wheel drive:ondry conditions and at slow speeds, abs braking systemactivated, causing extended stopping distance which may result ina crash.dealer said theproblem was due to the front hubs wearingout which caused the abs brakes to malfunction.

When the brakes are appliedpedal goes partially to the floor and the vehicle vibrates.the dealer has inspected the vehicle several times, and theand the problem still exists. Manufacturer has been notified.

Chev steadfastly has found no problem; vehicle, however, sails on...

Brakes are consistantly inadequate due to abs system.yh

While driving at any speed and going over railroad tracks and rough roads and gravel, vehicle didn't stop, causingconsumer to rear end another vehicle.

Dt: the contactcomplainedanti lock (abs) brake system.the abs will activate while driving at slow speeds.the speeds when the abs activatevariedfrom 3-10 mph.this happened under any driving conditions.no indicator lights came on to indicate there was a brake failure.the dealership was called and asked him to bring the vehicle for repairs at contact's expense.there was a recall but it ddid not include this vehicle.

When applying the brakes, during a normal stop, the pedal went to the floorand the truck did not stop. Driver used both feet to stop the truck after driving onto the shoulder.dealer has been notified about this problem.6 sets of brakes have been put on this vehicle in 2 years. Please provide any further details.

My 1997 tahoe exhibits the same antilock failures that are listed for the 1999 models for nhtsa campaign id no. 05v379000 but it is not included in the recall. The same is the case for gm recall no. 03023/nhtsa id no. 05v37900, the windshield wiper circuit board. I have the same failures continuously in my '97 chevy tahoe but the recall was extended only to suburbans. As a former gm engineer i know that the same parts and suppliers are used across the board for all of the gmt 800 series (tahoes, suburbans, yukons, etc.). So i don't understand how one model can be recalled when essence all models should be recalled.

Vehicle will not stop had 2 rear-end collisions within 3 months

While driving vehicle the comsumer tried to stop vehicle, but the brakes didn't respond and had an accident, rearending two other vehicles. The dealer checked everything out. According to mechanic didn't bleed the brakes; the manufacturer said they will investigate.

Consumer states that the brake makes a loud noise on hard stops and there is extended braking at speeds over 40 mph, brakes have been replaced twice in four years. *yd

Abs brake systems does not work, when applied the brakes at 30-40mpg the brakes will not stop vehicle, experience accidents over a 2 year period.hit two cars due to failure.

My tahoe has warped the front rotors under normal use(no towing) under warranty 6 times and twice more out of warranty with only 38k miles total. Cheverolt dealer claims there are no technical bullitens on this problem even though i've learned the suburban has a similar issue requiring a proportioning valve replacement. On average this tahoe has warped the front rotors every 4000 miles. What can be done to resolve this issue?

I am constantly having problems with the braking system on my tahoe. I have had a scraping sound when i first start out in the morning, and also a shake when braking, i have taken it to the dealer where i bought it two times, and he has replaced the pads, and then the drums and rotors. He said that the factory rotors were no good because they couldn't be turned so he installed after market rotors and drums.the second time. The brakes worked fine for a couple of weeks and then begun doing the same thing again.

Dealer reported that master cylinder failed, had to replace along with front brake shoes and pads, rotors turned.we were charged for all this, dealer charged that it was normal wear and tear.we have found numerous other people who have experienced the same problem.think that master cylinder is a defective part..unfair to charge owners for this...could lead to serious crashes, mine failed without warning!

There was bad vibration when putting on brakes, truck would shake.then, pedal seemed to go tofloor. Took to chevrolet 7 times to have different parts replaced for brakes.consumer stated that a month ago brakes had just been serviced, and on yesterday brakes locked up.

Ongoing problem with excessive wear of brake pads. Replacement needed every two -three months.dealer notified, and informed consumer that brake rotors also needed replacement, and it would only be done at consumer's expense because partswere not under a manufacturer's recall. Feel free to provide further details.

Vibration experienced when applying brakes, caused by warped discs.

Rotors warping with normal use every 3000-4000 miles.had to redo front brakes 5 times in 20,000 miles. Replaced rotors, pads, calipers, brake hose, rotors turned and still have problems.

Front disc brakes do not function properly.i bought this vehicle in may 1997.approximately 6 months after driving this vehicle i started noticing front disc brake problems.the vehicle was taken to gunderson chevrolet were they "grinded" and lubed front "knuckles?" .problem continued and consisits of "jerky"and "clunky" front brakes.vehicle has been taken to a private repair shop were front disc pads were replaced and front rotor were turned due to warping. Vehicle continues to exhibit a "jerky" braking motion which is annoying and could possibly cause an accident due to improper braking.i believe that this front brake system is very poorly designed and would expect that gmac should repair this $35,000 vehicle which should have a reliable and smooth front braking system.( dot number: tire size: 235/75/15 )

Front brake components and u-joints failed at less than 50,000 miles

Repeated rotor and pad warping and premature wear.every 3-4,000 miles.

Caliper slides froze due to tolerance/corossion, causing vehicle to effectively utilize one brake pad for braking.dealer noted that this is a common problem and offered to charge me for filing (service bulletin # 99-05-24-001) down the caliper slide to be within tolerance (not covered under "bumper to bumper" warranty - chevrolet customer service file #000014560).according to napa brake installation istructions for applicable pads (gm part numbers 7024a or 7081a), there is a posssibility of this condition breaking contact between the pad friction material and the metal backing, which would severely hamper or remove all braking power from that wheel.i have a brother with a chevy astro van of similar year, and an uncle with a full size chevy truck of similar year, both of whom have experienced front brake excessive/uneven wear.thier vehicles were out of the warranty period at the time it was noticed.i feel that chevy has denied me a warranty claim, because this is an inherent problem with thier brake design, and would be too costly to recall.i also feel that because it involves the front brakes (which provide most of braking power) of many large vehicles, that many use for towing, this should be considered for a safety recall, or at least covered under warrany, if discovered under warranty period.thank you for your time.

Am upset the dealer charged a diagnostic fee for something he could have told me on the phone!

When taking truck in for service with 20,000 the brake pads were shot and had to be replaced.

Front brake pads wore out causing damage to rotors.yh

Front & rear brake pads failed four times.

Brake pads need to be replaced due to contamination of chassis fluid.

Steering was like on ice, had to replace steering sensor, front disc rotors warped twice, had to replace.

Vehicle experiencing ongoing problem with both front rotors overheating, andcausingrotors to warp. Dealer/manufacturer notified.

Rotors failed causing vibration.

Front brakerotors are warped, causing the brake pads to wear down quickly, and when brakes are applied the vehicle vibrates and shakes . Dealer has been contacted.

Rotors warping with normal use every 3000-4000 miles.had to redo front brakes 5 times in 20,000 miles. Replaced rotors, pads, calipers, brake hose, rotors turned and still have problems.

Left front brake rotor separated.that is to say, the disc actually separated from the hub.the separation caused loss of braking on that wheel.the vehicle pulls hard toward the right(because of the remaining active brake).concerns: an inexperienced driver may have rolled the vehicle with the sudden hard pull to the right; had both rotors failed at the same time, a complete loss of front brakes would have been the result.i have the failed part.the repair shop who fixed the vehicle told me they see this kind of failure on a regular basis.thus type of composite rotor is common on many gm vehicles.having experienced the failure, i can't help but wonder if crashes may have been caused by the rotor failure, but the "broken" rotor could have been assumed to be a result of the crash?i have not contacted gm at this point.i have several complaints concerning this vehicle i am attempting to address with gm, but for the most part am being told the vehicle is out of warranty.this is a safety issue that i felt nhtsa should be aware of, and will, hopefully, look into.thank you, and i hope to hear from you soon.

Rotors replaced, turned frequently. Repair facility says this frequently happens with gm cars. Is there a solution?is this dangerous? the vehicle vibrates in the front end when the brakes are applied unless rotors are new or just turned.

Rear drums on both wheels malfunctioned, both where replaced by dealer, drums where out-of-round.

Rear brakewheel cylinder was totally defective.brake fluid was coming out of the deteriorated caps onwheel cylinder, damaging the rear axle seals.consumer wants reimbursement for the rear brake work done.*ml

While driving, consumer attempted to brake, instead the brake pedal went to the floor, and the vehicle crashed into a store, consumer states that the master cylinder, although full of fluid, had failed, there were no injuries.

The driver's side seatback bends to the right, causing the seat to be in a cocked position. The dealer has replaced the seat twice prior to this.also replaced leaking master cylinder/leaking power steering pump.

Poor design of rubber cover on the brake pedal came off causing driver's foot to slip to the floor resulting in a rear end collision.

While driving consumer noticed a difference in the brake pedal when stopping at a light. The brake became harder to push and consumer could hear a hissing sound, the repair shop replaced the vacuum power brake unit.*jg

Power brake booster is leaking vaccum causing the brake pedal to be hard, replaced the power brake booster.

While driving could switch lanes with oversensitive power steering, consumer believedthat powering steering pump andbrakes booster faile d at 43000 miles.

When negotiating curves (while driver is turning steering wheel and holding fairly consistant pressure on the wheel to maintain the turn), the steering wheel will suddenly turn (twitch) in the direction you are turning. This sometimes causes an oversteer to correct .problem is worsewhen veh. Is cold and does it mostly around 35 mph although regularly does it at all speeds also.my sense of the problem is not that the vehicle is "steering itself" , but that there is a sudden change in boost to the steering (defective speed sensitive pwr steering?) and since the driver is holding pressure on the wheel in a curve, the sudden change in steering boost causes the driver tooversteerandthan overcorrection in steering, which to some complainants apparently is perceived as a loss of steering.my wife perceives it as a loss of steeringand i drive the veh as much as her and can tell you the loss of steering is in the mind due to "pucker factor"! i can tell you without a doubt that the problem is very real and i have had 1 or 2 near misses with a car and jersey barricade as i oversteered with the sudden change of boost.what you need to understand is that the sudden change in boost probablyoccurs regularly at the appropriate speed, ( as designed into the speed sensitive steering system),but when the driver has turning pressure on the steering wheel, and the normal steering wheel back-pressure is suddenly released (or signifigantly reduced)the 1st action is a sudden oversteer (as though someone quickly jerked the wheel loose from your hands in the same direction you are already turning).i see many similiar complaints in the complaints database and a nhtsa action # ea99011 open investigation since may 12, 1999, seems thatthis is a definite widespread problem.is there a fix on the horizon?i see that some dealers have replaced the steering speed sensor, but it is not clear if that is the cure.any suggestions?

Steering wheel jerks to left or right on cold days when driving at moderate to high speeds.after reading the number of complaints for same exact problem it appears the gvt is waiting for a fatality before taking action.nhtsa action number ea 99011 was closed 02/27/2001 with no action taken.

While driving there is tension on the wheel . When slowing down to to turn, the tension loosensand jerks to the left. The dealer has ordered the parts to repair vehicle.

Intermittently when driving at various speeds steering wheel will turn to the left, sharp and fast.dealer has not been notified.the slip yolk went dry, causing vehicle to lurch forward after stopping.

The steering in my 1997 chevy tahoe has recently started to "jerk" while i am driving.*la

Ea99011, intermittently while driving, steering system malfunctioned, causing vehicle to wander which could result ina crash.dealercould not determine cause.

Steering loses resistance, changes lanes if not counter steered. Dealer replaced evo sensor on 9 april 2002.

Steering is erratic at medium speeds.you will be going around the corner and then the wheel will give and the truck pulls very quickly, as if you oversteered, but then it will stop.*la

Vehicle is very difficult to steer, it wanders all over the road, dealer replaced tires, serpentine belt and tensioner and performed front end alignment, this did not remedy problem.

Consumer was traveling 55mph on the highway went to make a slight turn, and the steering wheel was fightingwith him.after turning the ignition off at a rest area, the problem went away for awhile.after it reoccured, owner had faulty evo sensor replaced, no problems since.*ml

The vehicle's power steering is over sensitive andwill react to the slightest movement of the steering wheel. Dealer says it needed a new steering box. Problem still exist.the steering sensor has been replaced to correct problem.

When turning onto an on-ramp (usually right) the vehicle will momentarily lose power steering and the steering wheel will jerk right. This jerking motion also happens intermittently while driving at highway speeds with no turning involved. Even though there is more jerking motion on a turn both are extremely dangerous situations. This has been happening for several years.

Steering eov sensor failure caused steering twitches or jerks when changing lanes.yh

Vehicle steering loses control. I have complained about this several times to the dealer while it was in warranty and nothing was done about it.i see that others had the same problem. I told the dealerthis is a serious safety issue that could cause serious injuries and even fatalities. Note: i took it to the dealer and this is what they saidvehicle experienced a tsb (76-30-01) failure of the electronic variable orifice (evo) system as a result of low voltage condition of the steering wheel position sensor, which resulted in accident due to loss of control.

1997 chevy tahoe - after making a u-turn, power steering failed.in addition, while driving curved roads, an abrupt jerking would occur in the steering.

Power steering over-assist, bad evo sensor.

Over steering occured because of sensor failure.yh

Ea99011, due to a defective steering speed sensor, steering system malfunctioned, causing erratic steering while driving in high speeds. This couldresult in a crash.dealer was aware of problem, and would extend the warrantyonly if the he couldduplicate the problem.common problem.please provide further information.

Steering was like on ice, had to replace steering sensor, front disc rotors warped twice, had to replace.

Steering position sensor failed, causing the power steering system to lose resistance at speed.incident occurred while driving on a sweeping left hand turn.i was applying constant light left hand pressure on the steering wheel when the power steering system lost resistance and the wheelturnedfreely and quickly to the left.before i regained control i had moved 1/2 lane to the left.the problem was very intermittent at first but grew increasingly more regular.the steering would seem to twitch and cause momentary loss of feel.i finally replaced the steering position sensor and the problem was fixed.when i purchased the replacement part at the chevrolet dealership, the parts counterman new exactly what i was talking about and commented that it must be a big problem because they had a whole bin of steering position sensors.it is my contention that this should be a recall item.the sudden loss of steering control can be very un-nerving.

Ea99011, while driving on the left lane, the vehicle moved to the right lane unexpectedlywhich could havecaused a crash.incidents happened twice.please provide further information.

Power steering input/effort had became erratic causing increased effort or worse, oversteering midway through turns.first noticed this problem last fall at winter tire changeover.i initially blamed it on icy roads but then noticed it on obviously non icy roads as well.occurred just occasionally at first.i kept blaming tires but this spring when i changed back over to my summer tires the problem did not go away.dealership had indicated some worn front end parts needing replacement so i had that done along with a front end alignment following.didn't help.found many discussions with similar experiences on the internet and most indicated replacing the steering evo sensor as the cure.i replaced that part and it seems to have fixed the problem.the sensation of the loss of steering midcorner is at the least a little disconcerting and at the most could lead to an over-reaction and a severe crash!with as many complaints online as i found i don't understand how this could have been let go and not called to my attention by the company.the company knows about this problem as the parts clerk told me they even have a retro kit available to replace this assisted steering system period!

While driving vehicle steering wheel suddenly slips or jerks to the right.this problem is intermittent, but has increased over time.on january 28, 2003 the vehicle was taken in for this problem, and the dealership replaced the steering sensor.the problem has recurred 22 months later, causing driver to lose control of the vehicle at 35 mph.this resulted in lose of control of this vehicle and accident followed.chevrolet customer care service was contacted and said that they would pay for inspection of said vehicle.they responded that if no problem was detected during inpsection, that customer would have to pay for repair.inspection is still pending.

Steering briefly and suddenly goes "light" in sweeping right turns at 40+ mph.feels like you hit a patch of ice.sounds related to other complaints on your site i found while researching possible causes.have not taken to dealer yet - appointment next week.

While turning the steering wheel, the consumer noticed that the steering wheel jumped.the technician serviced the vehicle and a replaced the sensor. This problem occurred many times over the past three years and would fail while turning at low, medium and high speeds. *sc

Noticed erratic steering during right turn. Became more severe over time, to the point it was difficult to maintain control of vehicle.had vehicle inspected by local mechanic.failed evo (electronic variable orifice) sensor in steeringwas replaced.

When turning left or rightsteering wheel will jerk in that direction and cause vehicle to turn more than intended, like someone is jerking it out ofconsumer's hand. Consumer stated thiswa svery dangerous. Dealer said it was a sensor that needed to bereeplaced.please provide any further information.

Consumer states that while driving and no warning they will have erratic steering control and it will be hard for the consumer to control the vehicle. Dealer notified ts

While making turns steering sensor goes out intermittently, andsteering becomes very loose, no resistance. Consumer checked our complaints database, andon january 3found 40 complaints withsame problem.

1997 chevrolet tahoesteering problem in curves.very dangerous.when making a turn in a curve or a lane change you experience a temporary loss of steering followed by a release causing a oversteer condition a very hazzardous situation.

When making aleft hand turn, and then straightening vehicle out, steering will push to the right.

The play in the steering increases and becomes loose with high speeds. The ves system is working the opposite of what it is suppose to do. Truck will be checked by the dealership on jan.25-1999..et.

While driving and attempting to make a turn, the vehicle over turned, causing loss of control.driver has had to drive off the road.

1997 chevrolet tahoe steering at 83,000 miles. At 45-55 mph when turning left steering has a momentarily twitch/hang-up/resistance/jerk. After many attempts i finally found a dealership to diagnose that the steering wheel position sensor was failing & needed replacing. After searching the nhtsa i see several complaints of the same problem. It is hard to believe with a serious problem that impacts steering ability for chevrolet tahoe owners & others driving safety that there has not been a recall.hopefully something is done before there are injuries/accidents/fatalities.

Power steering sensor has been replaced twice at 34000 miles and again at 60000 miles. When making a turn steering wheel will jerk away fromturn.

During vehicle operation the steering is loose, and vehiclepulls to left when making a left turn.

While driving steering wheel felt as if vehicle was on ice.there was no control. When vehicle hit bumps vehicle could not be controlled. Took to dealership. Was test driven. The problem was felt, but dealer could not locate steering problem for repairs. Steering was weird, but nothing was wrong. New tires put on & vehicle realigned. Problem still exists.

While traveling onhighway consumer noticed that steering wheel was moving all over the place.

Steering wheel unexpectedly moves slightly at moderate and high speeds.dealer has replaced various parts of the steering column.

Steering wheel develops excessive play when vehicle warms up. Especially noticeable at 30 mph.dealer has failed to fix the problem in 4 attempts.

At high speeds steering wheel will jump 2to 3 feet.the dealer has been notified.

Consumer was traveling 55mph on the highway went to make a slight turn, and the steering wheel was fightingwith him.after turning the ignition off at a rest area, the problem went away for awhile.after it reoccured, owner had faulty evo sensor replaced, no problems since.*ml

The evo valve insteering wheel failed, causing wheel to become very loose.

I read about the investagation in the steering problems as described as sudden oversteering or jerks.i wanted to inform you that i had similiar experience.i took mine tahoe back to the dealer and they replaced the steering sensor.i also have previously owned a 1997 k1500 pickup that did the same thing.

When making a left turn the vehicle is easy to turn, causing the vehicle to pull. Please describe in more details.

Steering wheel is defective.steering wheel will turn on its own.problem started three years ago, and it has happened every two months. Took vehicle to the dearlership, andmechanic toldconsumer that they couldn't find thecauseof the problem.

While travelingat all speeds steering wheel & column gave in& became very loose.could cause an accident.dealer hasn't looked at the vehicle, he was only assuming what the problemwas. *ml

This vehicle experiences a failure in the steering position sensor mounted in the bottom of the steering column that makes you severely oversteer.i have complained to my local chevy dealer and they are aware of the issue, however, they are unwilling to do anything about this.as a certified auto technician,, i feel that this is a extreme safety issue that should cause a recall for repair.i also feel that gm should be liable for any accidents this definately would have caused as they are not correcting this safety issue!

Ea99011-erratic power steering assist.while driiving vehicle goes down a straight road, hits a slight bump, causing the tension in the steering column to release, which results in loss of control. However, the same problem is more intensified when going around curves.within the past month, the vehicle has been at the dealership 3 times for this problem. The steering sensor / steering boxhave been replaced. Consumer is still experiencing similarproblems.

Due to a leak insteering gear boxsteering system malfunctioned andvehicle turned to the left.vehicle lost control and resulted in collision.

Steering gets loose when warm, maybe somthing wrong with variable assit system, can cause dangerous lane changes.

Steering and front supension getting very loose .dealer says normal but is not

While driving steering would actually jump & vehicle would go into oncoming traffic. Took vehicle to dealership & informed by service manager that steering shaft was the cause of jumping.it can be repaired.

The steering assist on the tahoe suddenly goes away and the steering goes completly loose, and then suddenly it gets firm again. This causes erratic steering and over/under adjustment which can lead to a serious crash. I took it in 2 times and the problem still comes and goes, esspecially while in a turn. This should be a recall because of the seriousness of the problem. If the pwer steering fails it should fail to a firm steering condition not a total loss of steering!!

Vehicle will oversteer when changing lanes to the left or turning left, steering will pull to left.

When making a slight right turn in a curve or a lane change you experience a temporary loss of steering followed by a release causing a oversteer condition a very hazzardous situation.i contacted the dealer and asked about a recall on this. The person in the servicedepartment said it was only a problem with the 1997 models. This problem needs to be checked out beforesomeone gets killed. Please contact me with reply ts

Steering on my 97 tahoe has for many years 'twitched' when driving at a slow right turn such as on ramp to freeway or slow curve in the road. It never does it on left turns, only right. The steering wheel suddenly pops to the right and only for a second. It then repeats that if the turn on the road is continually to the right. If anyone other than me drives the tahoe, it will surprise them and cause and accident. Ive read about this problem in many forums online as well as here at the nhtsa site. Gm should be recalling this dangerous steering problem immediately.

My problem seems to be summarized by nhtsa action number: ea99011.the resistance on steering wheel is erratic, especially at highway speeds.

Erratic power steering assist while driving, see nhtsa action number: ea99011.

My steering has locked on me while driving, my car would not start due to crack in the battery and acid leak, my car had to be towed to repair shop due to starter cable popping off. Currently,i am stranded due to my brakes losing power somehow.

Ea99oii/erratic power steering operation: vehicle would jerk while traveling at highway speed . Dealer/maanufcturer were not contacted at this time.

Car has erratic steering responsiveness, especially when changing lanes or negotiating a curve. It feels like the steering wheel skips. It could easily cause an accident.

When driving the speed sensitivesteering has full boost at all times which makes the steering very sensitive and dangerous, overstear and lane changes happens everyday.

Problem with steering..momentary loss of steering, seems to slip then catch.service dept advised known problem with speed sensor.no factory recall.cost $250.00 to replace.

Erratic power steering assist while driving - this is already being investigated by you.

When you start turning it will pull you real fast in that direction everyone i talk to has the same problem with this model veh. It is very dangerous.

When turning wheel either left or right, a momentary loss of control causes the vehicle to oversteer.feels like the steering wheel has become disconnected or the power steering has surged.

Loss of steering control in cold weather conditions on snow and ice covered roads on my 1997 chevrolet tahoe.the variable assist steeriing would make a rapid and unexpected over adjustment when making small steering corrections.i lost control and started a "fish tail" when traveling in new york.i live in virginia and found this to be a minor problem in this climate, however, it is unsafe on slippery roads.

While driving the steering occasionally pulls to the right without warning.i read in usa today a recall was being considered and was wondering about the status.

Steering is real loose. Itfells as thoughconsumer is driving over oil when making a left or right turn. When consumer contacteddealer about the problem, consumer was told that the problem was with the steering assist sensor. The problem has not been corrected. Please provide any further information. Report given by husband, robert wisemore.

Power assist seems to be erratic - happens often at various speeds

The speed sensor for the power steering was defective; causing eratic steering responsiveness....quite dangerous.

Second time to replaced fuel pump&module, steering gives out on corners with no warning.

Steering becomes spastic at times.it felt like i was driving on ice.the steering has also become unusually loose making driving difficult.

When making a turn power steering boosts the turn, causing the turn to be further that expected.dealer has inspectedvehicle, and the manufacturer has been notified.the cause for power steering boosting is found to be failure in electronic varialbe orifice system (evo).

The variable effort steering intermittentlyand very sporadically goes from normal steering effort to almost zero steering effort causing an oversteer and near loss of control situation. This usually occurs (but not always and not the only situation) during a long continued turn such as found on entrance and exit ramps of a freeway or highway. Sometimes the opposite problem occurs where instead of an oversteer situation, it is difficult to get back out of a turn. This is a tremendous safety problem especially at highway speeds where a normal lane change can suddenly turn into a s-turn.this is difficult to duplicate on a test drive since it is sporadic and comes suddenly without notice.

Steering jerks left or right without warning -intermittent problem. Seems to be worse going around corners, but can happen going straight.

While driving along a road at about 25 mph my power steering failed and never returned. The dealer indicated that a sensor became loose and caused the power steering pump to fail. They suggested that i call the gm hot line. Gm was not very nice or helpful. They asked how much mileage. They indicated that anything that they would do would be under their good will program. They then asked me how much i was willing to pay. When i indicated gm=80% and me 20% of a $462 repair bill they asked me to hold on and then came back and said that they were not willing to pay anything.i asked them why they even bothered to ask me how much i would be willing to pay--and they indicated that the truck had a lot of mileage and that i should have taken the extended waranty program. I feel the dealer was trying to inform me that this power steering pump should not have gone in the mileage that i had. I believe that a bad accident could have resulted had i been driving on a curvey road. Gm appears to be disinterested in my welfare. I thought that beonka jones was very rude in handling the matter.

My problem seems to be summarized by nhtsa action number: ea99011.the resistance on steering wheel is erratic, especially at highway speeds.

The steering problem felt like i was driving on ice.it seems to slide for a second andthen the steering comes back.the problem happened last week and i just had the truck back to a chevy dealership to change the sensor as warranty work.i got the truck back yesterday and did not notice the sliding action any more, but it has been just one day.i'm sending this complaint because i heard about the investigation and wanted to submit my information.

Both times the steering sensor failed was at highway speeds.the first time i was switching lanes and all of a sudden it over corrected and almost sent me into the ditch at 65 mph.the second time my wife was traveling on the interstate at 65 mph and turned the wheel a little and it sent her into the next lane cutting off another vehicle. The first time i had it fixed the guy said "oh yeah we have been having problems with these."the next time i had it fixed i figured they would just replace it since they know there is a problem with them, but they charged my $150 parts and labor.i am going to contact the manufacturer next. It was very dangerous and i cannot believe something like this isn't being corrected.

This is to confirm that ea99011 concerning the steering on the 1997 tahoe, 350 5.7 assembled in mexico.the jurking in the steering is not a constant problem.i t does not happen all the time.however, there have been instances where the vehicle was travelling at high speed and this uncommanded imput was enough to induce the vehicle to lurch to the next lane.this sever action only happened once, however as the vehicle ages, the severity seems to get worse when it does happen. Yje vehicle has done this since i purchased it new in 1997.i also have confirmed this same thing with a friend who owned a 1997 saburban,he sold the vehicle as a result of this condition.

I bought this vehicle at tax time in 2014. I absolutely love my truck. It's a lifted, automatic 4wd with front and back towing pkg, and perfect for the mountain roads and snow where i live. Less than a month after i bought it i had to travel 300 miles to tucson and the transmission went out, didn't have the money to get it fixed so i transferred my job and started over in tucson. After much deliberation with the dealer, they finally had the transmission rebuilt. They gave me a 300 mi warranty (all i needed to get back to tucson) and less than a week after i got home, the fuel pump went out. So i let the truck sit for 2 months before i got it fixed. I came across enough money to get me and my children out of dv situation and proceeded to drive them to michigan. Made it to ok and it was completely burned out again. I always have routine maintenance done, i do understand how to use an automatic 4wd, i don't push my vehicle too hard. I made it to michigan but here it is winter and i have a truck in ok that i love and am still paying for and can't use, and do not understand why the transmission keeps going out and in the mean time i have 2 kids and one on the way and can't afford to fix my truck or get a new one. I was told there was a recall on my transmission, but cannot find one. Please let me know if there is anything i need to know or can do.

On dec 24, 1997 for the first time in chicago, ill, my sister in law and i were on our way back home from thier company x-mas party. There first real storm of the year winter that is.on our way back we could not get the vehicle warm the windows were frosted right up my sister in law was helpnig me scrap the ice off the inside of the windshield. All windows were froz in the insidewith three kids in back covered with blankets.i thought may be i was doing something wrong because this was the first time i really drove it anywhere.we went really slow all other vehicles were going slow or already off road stuck i had the vehicle in 4wd so weplowed right through everything. We got home and i told my husband he was in another vehicle with my brother i wanted my child in my vehicle because of the weather being so bad i figured he is safer in a bigger vehicle.when my husband went out he started the vehicle up and did not believe me nor my brother.a few days later we left and sure enough on our way home to michigan not but a few miles the heat quit working .we stopped about 5 hours later to warm up and eat we went back out vehicle had heat again not for long thou.we then in return brought the vehicle into dealership right away.theyreplaced the control head.this is the first time if more info please right or call please help us!

Front windshield wipers work intermittently or become inoperative during inclement conditions. The dealer was notified. The dealer informed the consumer that the vehicle was not covered under a recall.

Windshield wipers will intermittently work. Contacted dealer. *yd

Consumer stated that windshield wipers were not working properly while driving at 65 mph in the rain.

Thank you.

While driving the windshield wipers would turn on and off. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.nlm

Dt: the contact complained about windshield wiper/washer motorproblem.the windshield wipers worked intermittently or not at all.the vehicle has not been inspected to determine the cause of the problem. The contactreceived a letter from the manufacturer approximately 2 years ago, and it stated there was a problem with the windshield wiper/washer motor for this type of vehicle.at the time of the letter if she was having problems withvehicle she needed to bring it to dealerfor service.

Failure of the windshield wiper motor which results in decreased visibility during rainy conditions-recall of 1997 suburban, but not the 1997 tahoe-same unit used in both vehicles nhtsa campaign id# 03v159000.

Windshield wipers work intermittently or not at all.called dealership but was told that recall had expired.why is there an expiration date on a part that is only used periodically (when it rains) and why is there an expiration date on a part that deals with safety?also, according to odi site, the recall was on 94-96 tahoes.it seems to still exist on the 97's according to all of the complaints.

Windshield wipers would only work intermittently.manufacturer / dealer are notified and nothing could be done at this time.

Windshield wipers work intermittently. Consumer has to get out and pull the windshield wipers to get them working. Recall 03v159000 was issued.however, this vehicle is not included due to vin.also, mirror adjustment buttonon the driver sideoverheated.the cover came off after it melted. Recall 03v093000 was issued concerning rear mirror failure.

The window washing/wiping function on the turn indicator will only work some of the time.when i can get the wipers turned on, they won't shut off & they instead go another 5-10 times.when it doesn't work i can hear the motor groaning as if it is trying to function. (winter is here!! and so is the rain!). *la

1997 chevrolet tahoe was part of a recall for defective circuit board in the windshield wiper motor.wipers work intermittently or not at all.have stopped in the middle of a rain storm at night.luckily, made it to an exit ramp off of a highway.very scary and dangerous !!!!! can't get dealersto repair because vin nbr wasn't on their list, but model, year and problem same as others.

Windshield wipers do not work all the time.

Tried searching on this website about the recall number but have no clue to what a odi number may be for my truck. I have a 97 tahoe ls 2wd and basically my wipers stopped working ever since it hit 88,000 miles. Sometimes they work, but now they don't at all. I contacted chevy / gm and they told me my truck's vin did not match the recall order. B/s because my brother in law has the same exact year yukon and his wipers also stopped working all of a sudden. Basically what im asking for is for gm to replace my wipers / motor assembly whatever is defective as i am not the only one with this problem as i can tell from cosumeraffairs.com please help as i do live in a rainy state and the hurricane season is approaching. I am a family man that travels periodically.

Exact same problem as 03v093000 on my 1997 chevrolet tahoe. Gm states it is not in recall group. Had to have emergency repairs done while on vacation for same failure as stated above. Paid $94.+

No summary listed for this vehicle.
