Air bag light was on for no apparent reason, and consumer had it looked at.was told that the air bagcoil was open and it had to be replaced. Dealer was contacted.

Defective abs system resulted in an accident and drivers side air bag failed to deploy.

Horn would sound while driving or when the vehicle is vibrated (example: door is shut, hood popped open, adjustment of steering column).had this problem 2 time previously,a gm authorized dealership look at situation and could not find a problem without going into a detail diagnostic.pulling the fuse for the horn would not stop the horn for sounding.finally had to pull the horn relay located in the fuse box under the hood to stop horn from sounding.finally had a detailed diagnostic was performed and the only thing that the dealership could find was a problem with the airbag.supposedly the airbag expands when it the area around it heats up, which in turn applies pressure on the horn ring, ergo the horn goes off even when the fuse was removed.dealership could not find an electrical problem during their 2 hours of diagnotics.recommended soultion replace airbag / horn ring$638.00 (parts only).supposedly new airbag has a new design to prevent this from occurring again.

While driving the truck the driver went into an tree which caused the truck to flip over. The driver states that she was going 45mph. The tree struck the passenger's side. Driver's and passenger's air bags failed to deploy.

On 3/13/2001 was involved in an mvc when another vehicle pulled out in front of the vehicle i struck off road.i was traveling aprox. 40-45mph when i applied the brakes immediately and slid aprox. 75 feet on road and continued to slide off road for another 50 feet when i collided with the other vehicle. Abs system never kicked in,and the vehicle slid uncontrolled until collision with injuries to myself when the seat belt did not hold my body and allowed me to travel forward striking the steering wheel with the air bag not deploying with a frontal impact and sudden deceleration.(tiresize: 245/75r16)

The light indicating that the airbag has been deployed is on constantly and could cause the air bag to deploy at any time. Manufacturer has been notified about problem. Manufacturer said that they would inspect the vehicle to find out cause of problem, but could make no promisesas to the repair of the vehicle because warranty is over.

The rear driver side window became inoperable, followed by the entire door (it won't open at all). Then, the rear passenger side door wouldn't open from the inside, followed by the driver door and recently the passenger door. The driver door, front and rear passenger doors can only be opened by rolling the window down and opening the door from the outside handle. We noticed that around the same time the doors went out, so did the back brake light panels (replacing the bulbs and housing units don't make a difference). The back brake light panels are intermittent and seem to work on occasion(if we hit a bump or something). This is a severe safety issue and i'm afraid we will have to junk our truck due to it. Are there any other tahoe owners with similar issues? any recalls related to these issues? this doesn't sound like normal wear and tear related issues to me...

My battery failure was same as power failure that newspaper said nhtsa was investigating. I still have battery which will show why vehicle loses power. I also know of one more exact same failure with a suburban which probably has'nt been reported. The cargo door hinges are another failure that gmc refuses to address and blames it on poor maintinence by the owner.

Onseptember 25, 1998, i was driving my 1995 chevy tahoe, suv and had a complete brake failure, which almost caused a terrible accident. This was amazing in that on august 7, of that same year only a little over a month after the brakes had been serviced they failed. It was concluded that the battery had failed and leaked acid onto the brake lines causing them to fail and leakout the vital fluid. On 1/23/00 s.d.union/tribune carried an national a..p article saying the the ntsa was investgating this very problem in tahoes/yukons & suburbans

Recently learnd that this has happend with other tahoes. No safety defect listed in summary.

Reported problem of leaky battery to dealer not covered by warrenty.

Original mfg's battery side terminals leaked with pressure and spewed acid out and down on other components of the engine compartment, including the rt sir deployment sensor, electrical wiring, brake lines, transmission cooling lines, and other items, with resultant corrosion. Dealer refused to fix, owner cleaned up best possible.

During routine maintainance i noticed positive terminal on the battery was leaking.notified dealership and was told it was not covered.i replaced it with a sears battery and cleaned up to be best of my ability the leakage that occurred (which i was concerned could affect the braking, anti-lock system, and other components.)i was not happy with the response from the dealership, but i was not going to buy another battery that would leak, from the dealership.i noticed the article in the newspaper regarding this situation, recently, which has prompted my report.thank you.

The battery leaked battery acid. The positive battery cable was corrodded by the acid and had to be replaced. Acid also leaked onto the inner fender and the brake line. The acid removed the paint from the fender which began to rust. The brake line appears corrodded but has not failed yet.

I recently read of your investigation of tahoe battery leakage.i think the problem is bigger than power failure.my brakes failed on the highway, and when i took the vehicle in for repair i was told that acid from the battery had leaked onto the brake line and destroyed it.all the fluid was lost.the brake line, right front hose and (of course) battery were replaced.someone should tell gm that it is not too smart to put leaky batteries over a brake line.the vehicle has been (and still is) dealer maintained and serviced.

In nov 1998, the same instance occured in as the battery + cables cracked the side mount battery cable attachment. This causes acid leakage (undetected) to leech into both cables, with eventual cable failure, possible total power loss. In my 1st report (odi # 724340) i paid $405.95 to the dealer + towing charges to have this repaired. This time i purchased a new battery with both side and top mount posts, 2 new cable assy's, and attached the starter + cable to the side mt, and the power control + cable to the top mount to eliminate the weight/pressure on the small side mt 3/8" bolt. The weight of both cables on a single side mt post is excessive, and with vehicle vibration during driving this incident will continue to occur. I have hopefully eliminated this issue by splitting the cable mt locations. Hopefully chevrolet will recall this issue because it is a major problem costing consumers allot of cash. And the kicker, it is not covered under a standard or extended warranty due to battery failure, with resultant cable failure is not covered. Feedback requested if possible.

Original battery leaked corrosive fluid on holding tray and wheel well, resulting in aproximately $375.00 worth of damage, plus the replacement costs of $150.00 for a new battery.

While driving would experience hesitation. Took to dealer & mechanic indicated that acid had corroded several of battery's cable wires which caused the problem.battery was replaced with an ac delco.problem with the original battery, corroded cable wires, happened with the delco battery. Ignition coil failed causing vehicle to lunge while at idle.

Passenger side floorboard reaches high temperatures directly over exhaust pipe and catalytic convertor.right side floorboard temperature inside cabin measures 120 degrees under normal driving and has been measured at 146 degrees while towing approximately 3000 lbs on a vehicle with 5500 lbs rated towing capacity. 146 degree temperature was recorded during optimal towing conditions, level driving, night, low wind and 50 degrees air temperature.clear indications that temperature exceeded 146 degrees during previous usage. (towed same trailer and load many times in the past without temperature spikes.) this problem was reported to the dealer and chevrolet who have refused to admit a problem exist and these temperatures are what they call "normal operations".engine and transmission temperatures were well within norms.dealer service representative suggested i buy a fire extinguisher!

This vehicle is kept in meticulous condition, always garaged and maintained regularly.after numerous no-starts and general poor running condition i have had to replace both fuel injectors, the map sensor as well as having a major tune-up.

We have complained several times about the driver's side seat not feeling as if it is "locked" in position and were told that it is normal.it felt as if the seat were "rocking" a bit.now the seat has broken all the way and can "rock" as if you are in a rocking chair.this took effect on the freeway.very dangerous!!! .....in connection with the egr valve i am currently in need of having it replaced for the 3rd time.my "service engine soon" light has come on all three times.the vehicle has not run the same since the first egr valve has been replaced.to my understanding, it is not a part that should wear out so frequently.none of the times has the egr valve been covered under warranty.

Nhtsa campaign#95v124000 indicated a wiring defect on the high mounted stop light for 1995 checrolet tahoe. Mine fails.i took the truck to jerry hamm chev. In jacksonville on 5/4/00 to have the anti-lock brakes fixed for the second time,and asked them to also repair the high-light. They refused,stated the recall was not in their database. I provided them with a printed copy of your campaign,and they still refused. They also made me pay forthe abs modulator repair on 02/22/99 even though it was common knowledge that tahoes were having anti-lock brake failures. I don't think the abs modulator (heart of the abs) system should have failed at 47,000 miles. The only thing they did was split the cost of the part after i complained and indicated i was calling chevrolet

While driving down the road with the cruise control off vehicle began to accelerate on its own.hitting the brakes would not stop the engine from revving. Lifting up on acclerator pedal would not slow vehicle.had to turn engine off and restart, this allowed the vechicle to resume normal operation.this first occured on a sharp curve and could have caused an accident.a call to my dealer showed there were no recalls that were outstanding for this vehicle.this is a dangerous problem and i have read about other complaints.i'm sure nothing will ever be done as it is probably not cost effective for chevy to fix it.

The contact was a certified mechanic who placed a patch on the fuel tank himself. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failuremileage was 264,349.

The design of the seat mounting is unsafe.the seat is mounted to a weak cross brace instead of the main seat frame rails.this design is doomed to repeated failures and is unsafe.if the seat was mounted by the main frame rails there would be no problems.chevrolet should redesign the slide bracket to mount to the proper mounting points.

Driver's seat failure on a 1995 chevrolet tahoe.the design of the seat places the front left seat fastener on a thin piece of sheet metal rather than on the re-enforced corner of the seat frame.it appears to be some kind of design error.the thin piece of sheet metal split apart, allowing the fastener to come free, and the seat then rocked back, almost touching the rear seat behind it;the driver was left looking up at a 60 degree angle at the inside roof of the vehicle, and holding onto the steering wheel for support.this failure occurred in the driveway as the driver was backing up.i shudder to think what would have happened had my wife and two children been in the car and in traffic when this occurred.gm should be forced to fix this, as it is clearly a safety hazard to the occupants of the vehicle as well as to other vehicles on the road.in my case, a call to the local dealer generated a "never heard of that" response;i ultimately disassembled the seat and had my local welding shop stitch in a 1/8 inch piece of steel across the entire front of the seat frame structure so that the re-enforced corners are connected by more than the flimsy piece of sheet steel (this is what gm should have done with the original design of this seat). *nlm

Front left corner of drivers seat broke loose and started rocking back and forth. I was sitting parked and reaching in the back seat for item.

The seat frame on the drivers side has broken away from the rest of the seat frame causing it to rock back and foward. The mount in the floor now has bearing that move the seat track these are worn from all the movement in the seat.

While driving at 30 mph i went to get some thing out of my pocket and my seat broke lose. I pulledover and got out and looked under my seatandto my surprize saw that the seat had broke lose of the base. *mjs

This vehicule has a drivers power seat, upon pulling out onto the road the seat broke loose from its mount. I did have both hands on the steering wheel at the time and was able to keep control of the vehicule as it lifted from the front left mounting bracket. After looking at the seat i discovered that the seat mounting bracketon the left side of the seat is bolted into thin sheet metal to the seat frame and not into the seat frame rail. This appears to be a design problem since the passenger seat frame rails are bolted to the seat brackets as should be. I contacted the dealer and he said they would fix it , but that i would have to pay for the new seat frame and labor as a normal service call. Contacted the customer assistance line and filed a report and was told it would be put on file as a complaint file # c01348445, have not heard anything in a week. I will be fixing the seat my self in the near future by taking 3/16 x 1 1/2 flat bar and bolting it to the seat support brackets and bolting the seat frame to the flat bar. Will try to take pictures of the problem before it is fixed and after it is fixed, anyway the damage part will still be there as the flat bar will just give it strength. What it appears to look like is the vehicule has a full size seat installed on support brackets made for a s10 size vehicule. If my seat broke i am sure there are others that have the same problem or will have the same problem as it is just a matter of time, they may not be so lucky as i was.

Drivers seat is loose causing slight rocking motion and clunking noise when stopping / starting.this seems common in 95 - 9? full size chev / gmc suv's.i have read many nhtsa customer complaints for this same problem - some resulting in failure of the seat to remain upright and resulting in a dangerous situation.i do not believe i should have to pay to repair this defect which i hear may cost as much as $1,000 in parts and labor.this is an obvious and dangerous safety defect which requires correction by the manufacturer.

While researching info. On the web i noticed that nhtsa is investigating batteries. After my tahoe didn't start i found the oem battery was leaking from + terminal. This occured some time ago and the vehicle had been in for service one month prior so i thought the mechanics had over tightened it. I replaced the battery and + cable myself; so far so good. On to my cheif complaint; approximatly one week ago while driving i felt a snap in my seat. I wrote it off as a spring until i stopped, suddenly my drivers seat had become a rocking chair. Upon returning home i found that the seat was secured to the pedastal via less than 1/8" of metal. It seems gm in its quest to save a buck not so cleverly figured that the stress in normal operation on a power seat is not as much of that in a manual seat. My problem is i payed more for a seat that potentially puts my family and countless other people in life threatining danger. What good is a safety belt on a seat that will not stay connected to your vehicle in a crash. I am fortunate to have found this problem without the latter. I have a problem beleiving that the same people who egineered this mess can get an internal combustion motor to run. Currently i am awaiting my local gm service shop to fit me in so they can spare 1 measly minute to look at my seat; the closest appointment was a week away. In my opinion anything less than their current seats would be unacciptable. I find it hard to believe that i am the first to have seen this problem. Please investigate.

Excessive corrosion on poorly coated/treated brake lines led to a failure to stop at a stop sign and allowed the vehicle to coast into traffic at an intersection on a busy major highway. Use of downshifting, the emergency brake, and shifting into 4wd was the only way a major accident was avoided. The rear drum brakes were not strong enough to compensate for the compromised line in the front.

Onseptember 25, 1998, i was driving my 1995 chevy tahoe, suv and had a complete brake failure, which almost caused a terrible accident. This was amazing in that on august 7, of that same year only a little over a month after the brakes had been serviced they failed. The anti-lock brakes on my 1995 chevy tahoe are activating spuriously at slow speeds when braking. This typically happens as i approach a traffic light or stop sign or when parking in a lot. This activation causes an increased stopping distance. It has not resulted in an accident at this time, but i could see how it could. From some online research it appears that it is a known problem with rusting of the speed sensors. It would seem to me that this is a manufacturer problem for which a recall should be initiated to fix.

Nhtsa campaign#95v124000 indicated a wiring defect on the high mounted stop light for 1995 checrolet tahoe. Mine fails.i took the truck to jerry hamm chev. In jacksonville on 5/4/00 to have the anti-lock brakes fixed for the second time,and asked them to also repair the high-light. They refused,stated the recall was not in their database. I provided them with a printed copy of your campaign,and they still refused. They also made me pay forthe abs modulator repair on 02/22/99 even though it was common knowledge that tahoes were having anti-lock brake failures. I don't think the abs modulator (heart of the abs) system should have failed at 47,000 miles. The only thing they did was split the cost of the part after i complained and indicated i was calling chevrolet

The description of the abs brake failure in the washington post article on july 22, 1999 is an exact description of the cause of an accident i had in february, 1999.i was traveling about 10 mph and applied the brakes.i was unable to stop because no matter how hard i pushed the pedal, the vehicle continued to roll and bumped into the truck in front of me, damaging my bumper.i had the dealer replace the bumper and check the brakes.they said they didn't find anything wrong with the abs brake system.

On 3/13/2001 was involved in an mvc when another vehicle pulled out in front of the vehicle i struck off road.i was traveling aprox. 40-45mph when i applied the brakes immediately and slid aprox. 75 feet on road and continued to slide off road for another 50 feet when i collided with the other vehicle. I have previously corresponded with your agency (odi# 10098003) on 10/29/04.although general motors has recently issued an antilock braking system recall, it includes only certain models after 1999. Be advised earlier year models have experienced the same problem, and repair to those has not been addressed. I have incurred $200.00 in repairs caused by the problem with corrosion described in the recall. My mechanic has disabled the system by removal of the fuse to prevent the activation of the abs system for no apparent reason. I therefore have a system designed for safety which is completely and totally useless. And in need of repair. Lets get gm to address this problem in total.

Gentlemen, i am not sure what constitutes a safety hazard, but i am having to put on my fifth set of front brakes as the current ones are now worn thin, chatter, and squeal. This is a familiar pattern of excessive wear. I have even had the abs chatter on me when going over a rough section of pavement - both during breaking and immediatly after braking. Scary. It seems unreasonable to me that i should be going through front brakes every 18,000 miles! and they frequently make funny noises!

The steering is exceptionally hard and the truck has power steering, especially at low speeds. Excessive steering effort is necessary.

The rear driver side window became inoperable, followed by the entire door (it won't open at all). Then, the rear passenger side door wouldn't open from the inside, followed by the driver door and recently the passenger door. The driver door, front and rear passenger doors can only be opened by rolling the window down and opening the door from the outside handle. We noticed that around the same time the doors went out, so did the back brake light panels (replacing the bulbs and housing units don't make a difference). The back brake light panels are intermittent and seem to work on occasion(if we hit a bump or something). This is a severe safety issue and i'm afraid we will have to junk our truck due to it. Are there any other tahoe owners with similar issues? any recalls related to these issues? this doesn't sound like normal wear and tear related issues to me...

This report regards a chevrolet tahoe 4 door truck which i purchased new. During the past 16 months both interior door handles ( the left and right front doors) have snapped off rendering that door inoperable when attempting to exit the vehicle. It appears that this is a safety defect since the possiblity exists that these door handles could fail at any time in an emergency. I have been required to replace these door handles at my expense and i was informed by the chevrolet dealer ( hustedt chevrolet of floral park, n.y.) that the door handle failure is a common problem with these vehicles.

The framing on the drivers power seat has failed, causing the driver to fall away from the steering wheel without warning.

My battery failure was same as power failure that newspaper said nhtsa was investigating. I still have battery which will show why vehicle loses power. I also know of one more exact same failure with a suburban which probably has'nt been reported. The cargo door hinges are another failure that gmc refuses to address and blames it on poor maintinence by the owner.

This was manufactered at the decatur, illinois firestone plant in 1998, lt265/75 r16, dot 7bw8 pda148 n07r; explosive belt failure at 72mph shot belts into the wheelwell of truck with proper inflation and maintenance (35-40psi).(dot number: 7bw8pda148tiresize: l265/75r16)

Consumer stated that the firestone tires on the tahoe were not included in the recall because they were "16", when the ride was becoming rough, consumer took vehice to the tire store, and they found that two of the four tires had the belts separated on the inside.*yd

A tread on the passenger side rear tire separated enough to allow the steel belts to come through.there was no complete separation, more like a tear.tire pressure was completely lost.the tires were 2 yrs old with adequate tread according to the service station that checked the tire.(tiresize: p245/75r16)( dot number: tire size: p245/75r16 )

Bridgestone dueler 684 tires, lt265/75r16size, dot#: 7bw8pda148,and after market tires. At 72mphtread on the left rear tire separated frombelts, causing minor damage tovehicle. Firestone has inspected tire.

3 bolts had broken from dash,rattling is getting worst / spoke with chevy reference # co2357402, (gmpp) reference #807001694.

Dash is vibrating.

1st thing noticed is orange indicator showing what gear vehicle is in was not working, when truck was in forward motion ran very rough not much power.next day before truck was brought to dealership driver noticed dashboard readings were not working.vehicle brought to dealership.they replaced vehicle speed sensor , problems cont., but before they could futher test truck was operating normally.told to bring vehicle back if happened again.happened again 6/7/99.vehicle back at dealership,.

I realize that i am beyond the 3/36,000 but gmc is claiming no responsibility for this. I have maintained my car and polished it faithfully.clear coat just does not peel unless there is an application fault or faulty product. No safety defect listed in summary.

While driving the driver's side mat became caught under the accelerator pedal which caused the vehicle not to stop. The driver removed the mat and was able to avoid a collision.on 1/8/2004, another driver of the same vehicle applied pressure to the brake pedal while driving downhill but the vehicle accelerated.the driver sustained knee injuries.

The owner had just started the car and it was in park the owner left the car for a minute and it started rolling backward, it was in reverse when it stopped.

With the cruise control engaged the vehicle experienced sudden acceleration the foot brake failed to disengage the cruise control resulting in vehicle collision, air bags failed to deploy upon impact and the seat belt failed to restrain him causing his head to strike the passenger side windshiled knocking him unconsious.nlm

Re: incident ae00013 - the airbag light came on intermitantly, took it to dealer, they couldn't find problem with it.about a mont later the tahoe started intermitantly losing power when trying to accelerate, causing several near crashes.took it again to the dealer that then determined the battery was leaking acid on to the airbag sensor.had to replace the airbag sensor and battery.they charged over $700 to do so, including $89 labor just to install a new battery!about a week or so after that similar loss of power was occurring.took tahoe to a different chev dealer who the found alternator was now bad, which i suspect may be related to the ongoing bad battery problems.

Windshield weather stripping failed. *dh

Rear window has shattered while vehicle was sitting with no one around, for the third time.

Windshield wiper failed several times.

Front windshield wipers intermittently work. Second time in a week where the low speed, high speed, or intermittent wipers would not come on.

Windshield wipers fail causing poor visibility.

Windshield wipers:when driving the windshield wipers will automatically shut off without any warning. This is an intermittent problem, cause is unknown.

While the windshield wipers were on they cut off, causing loss of visibility. The dealer has been notified.

Windshield wipers will completely stop working in rainy weather. They will start back after about 30 seconds being off.consumer sometimes gets out of vehicle and opens the hood to hit the wiper motor, and they will start back working. No warranty.dealer contacted, and wants the consumer to duplicate the problem before considering repair of vehicle.

The mounting bracket of the front power driver's seat has broken and caused the seat to tip into the reclining position. The windshield wiper motor has been replaced twice because the windshield wipers stopped intermittently, and the problem is still occurring.

Windshield wiper malfunctioned prior to recall 98v150001, dealer replaced the motor and the module, consumer feels he should be reimbursed.

Windshield wiper motor/relay malfunctioned, causing wipers not to operate properly in inclement weather.

Driving the truck in rainy weather andturning on the windshield wipers, the wipers will come on, and then they will stop functioning, causing poor driving visibility for the driver.the driver has to get out of the truck, and move the wipers before they will start working again.took truck to dealer and had repaired.was told that the wiper motor was causing the wipers to not work.

Windshield wiper motor fails intermittently.

I found out after i had to replace the windshield wiper motor because the wipers would only work intermittently andthat there had been a recall.i had purchased a motor and installed it myself to save $100 over the cost of a motor from the dealer, not to mention labor.the dealer would only reimburse me $42, which it said was the cost of the circuit board.at the time i had to replace the motor, the circuit board was not available to me.i only think that i should have been reimbursed for my actual expenses which totaled about $70 for a rebuilt motor. (the dealer wanted $170 for a motor).
