One morning came out to start my 2005 suburban and the service airbag message popped on along with the airbag light. Took it to my service center and was told it was a front impact sensor. Was also told this is a common problem on these vehicles. After doing some research online i have found this to be a very common problem rendering the airbag system inop. I believe gm needs to step up and fix the issue with the sensors as not everyone has $400 to fix a faulty sensor. The odometer on my suburban is 127,000 miles, so by no means driven hard.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, she crashed into the rear of a trash truck. Upon impact, the air bags did not deploy. The driver sustained injuries to the left arm and left leg. The police were contacted and a report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where they deemed the vehicle as being destroyed. The manufacturer was contacted and after diagnosing the vehicle, they advised her that the vehicle was not traveling fast enough at the time of impact for the airbags to deploy. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Check air bag light is on. This has happened before and after a few weeks the light may go off. Dealer could not find a problem. There needs to be a recall on this. Thousands of people having the same problem.

Air bag sensor failure rendering the airbags inoperable.

Had to replace second faulty impact sensor for air bag on my vehicle.this is located in front of vehicle.the first replacement of the other sensor wasjuly 26, 2013.this vehicle was never in a crash and had not damage to the front of the vehicle.when the air bag comes on they tell me my air bags no longer work.my family has a 2000 chevrolet tahoe that has never had this problem.i am sure there is a lot of people whowould not have this item fixed.

The wiring for the lighters, power ports and computer link melted. It's all part of the under-dash wiring harness.

The airbag system has stopped working 6 times since i bought my brand new suburban. The service air bag light comes on which means the system will not work if in an accident.the have attempted to fix it six times.now gm stated that they will not do anything further and their solution is for me to buy a new car when my car is only 2.5 years old and only has 36,000 miles on it.

Truck door is not opening, fuel gas defective, rear light system has electrical problem all the times, a/c system electrical problem.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the air bag warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and the air bag sensor was replaced however, the failure later recurred. The vehicle was not further repaired and manufacturer was not made award of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 75000.

In ,may 2009 my speedo was out of whack says im driving 100mph down street, buried at 120mph on highway. Came back to life later but now its hit or miss if it works. I have to use my magellan for speedo now and chevy dealer said if i was under 70k they could fix it for freebut since im at 85k and they say i have to pay in full (approx $750.00) and chevy never told me about this i learned of the problem from a friend.

As i have read this is a recurring problem. My speedometer on our 2005 chevrolet suburban 67,000 miles quit working. On a long trip it would only show 45-60 mph. I know i was going alot faster. When i accelerated it would slowly jump up to speed. Several times the oil pressure gauge was affected also. We had the cluster replaced at the dealership. Luckily we had an extended warranty. In my opinion this is a safety concern from dec 08 until may of 09 it happened 10 times.

I went to washington auto show today 2/4/2012 and one of your rep gave me a card about your service. I came home and check out your website and found out you have been receiving complaints about instrument panel of chevy suburban. I bought a 2005 chevy suburban in march 2005 from win kelly chevorlet in clarksville, md. About middle of last year i noticed that my speedometer is always stuck, running high than the speed i am driving and just exactly as being described by other owners of these vehicles. What is the department doing to help with this manufacturer's defect and have it corrected rather than we consumers being saddled with unexpected repair cost?

Speedometer stopped working. It is stuck on 30mph. There is no way to tell what speed you are traveling at.

I have a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The speedometer has been going out for some time. It will either not register or register off so that the person driving has no idea of speed. I have contacted chevy and my dealer and have been informed that chevy knows of the issue but will only cover replacement through model year 2004. There is a class action suit to try to force coverage of additional years.

Driver side seat heater randomly comes on and goes off. Majority of the time the heater stays on constantly and becomes uncomfortable. This happens more especially in wet conditions and when you attempt to turn the heated seat off, the controls won't work. This issue happens when the suv is started, continues while idling and while driving. Some days it is hours before it will go off. Other days it will not go off. The scary thing is you can hear the dashboard clicking when the heater turns on and off, constantly cycling though high to low, back of seat to bottom of the seat. Adjusting the seat in any way does not help. I think this is a concern due to the fact that it turns off and on and you can hear it cycle through. It's also a major concern because the heat stays on without any way to turn it off. This started a week after i purchased this vehicle and has continued since october 2016.

My oil pressure gauge started reading "0" in november 2008 but there is nothing wrong with my oil.(mileage approx. 49,000) i check it often and have the oil changed regularly.in february 2009 my speedometer started registering inaccurately.first, it would say i was going 40 mph at a dead stop.currently, it is past the 120 mph mark and holding. (mileage 52,000)i took it to a chevy dealer for diagnostic evaluation.i was told it was the dashboard circuit board and that it would be $500 to replace it.the service manager told me that this part had been recalled on the 2003-2004 models but not the 2005.that i could pay for the repair and if it was recalled i could be reimbursed.this is a huge safety concern especially with young teenage drivers.it seems obvious to me reading through all the complaints for the 2005 model and the recalls of previous years that the 2005 model should be recalled as well.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban.the contact stated that the speedometer displays inaccurate readings on the instrument panel.he cannot determine the appropriate speed, which is a safety issue.the dealer stated that the instrument control cluster needed to be replaced at the cost of $600.the manufacturer stated that because a class action lawsuit does not include the contact's vehicle year, they would not assume any responsibility for the repair.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was unknown.updated 5/26/09 the speedometer is broken and the electrical communication makes a buzzing sound. Updated 05/28/09.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban.the contact was driving approximately 45 mph and noticed the speedometer, fuel and oil gauges failed to operate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.

Erratic speedometer...often the needle sticks at 120 mph when only going about 30...sometimes at 40 when actually not moving at a stoplight. It reads erratically all of the time. Started about 2 years ago (75,000 miles). Very costly to repair, so i keep my portable gps running to get actual speed.

At approximately 4 years and 45,000 miles after purchase of my 2005 suburban, the tachometer began failing with intermittent low readings or no reading.since the vehicle was out of warranty and the tachometer isn't really very useful for an automatic transmission vehicle,i was not overly concerned and i did not bring the vehicle in for repair due to the anticipated high expense.shortly after the tachometer failure (about 55,000 miles)the gas gauge began failing with erratic readings.ultimately the behavior degraded to a pegged counter clockwise condition where the reading now stays at all times.although inconvenient, the 'miles to empty' information display seemed to continue to work normally and i decided i could use that method instead of having a repair performed.i've been using that method ever since without any issues, but i tend to be conservative and fill up before i come close to being empty.within the next six months after the gas gauge failed (about 60,000 miles),the volt meter began giving erroneously high readings of about 20 volts. It was a pretty rare event. When it showed this over voltage condition,i checked the charging voltage at several locations and found the voltage to be normal.when i determined that there wasn't an actual over-voltage condition,i wasn't too concerned about this infrequent issue.several months after the gas gauge failure, the speedometer began failing with low or no readings.it started out to be a very rare occurrence. The issue now seems to be occurring with greater frequency.the increased failure rate concerns me since it can result in a safety hazard as well as could result in a costly speeding ticket.i was not notified of any of the gm campaigns for this issue on the same model vehicle on different vins.gm's position is any repair will be at my full expense (approx $600).

Our speedometer just all of a sudden stopped working, from time to time it looks like it is working but it is not going the speed that it says. Since this started our oil gauge, and now fuel gauge has stopped working.

Erratic speedometer... Says the vehicle is moving 120 mph when in a village and 30 on the highway... It reads erratically all of the time. Started about 2 months ago (78,000 miles)this is a huge safety issue. Is chevrolet going to fix this problem?i have read numerous similar complaints.

Heated seats randomly turn on and off and goes thorugh the diffeent levels of heat and then off and then back on repeat for hours while driving and is very distracting as have to turn off every 10 sec and have almost crashed multiple times taking me eyes off the road but have to turn off as heat is too much in summer months, this is a known issue in almost ever suburban 01 to 05, how is this not a recall yet, there is massive amount of documentation of this issue online.

Instrument panel - cluster device -- panel/speedometer went dead.gm service dealertold us, " the entire truck could die and stop working as a result. "

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning blower not fully functional on all blower speeds, runs continuously with the ignition off.discharges battery with ignition keys removed, and has a burning smell.

Attempted to lock the vehicle using the key fob - all four doors locked - the rear hatch did not - tried thekey fob several more times with the same result - opened the driver's door and used the manual lock button - got the same result, the four doors locked but not the rear hatch - for my 2005 model, and for several model years other than my 2005, i read many complaints about the same problem on this website prior to sending this - and many complaints about the opposite problem, namely, the rear hatch door locks and cannot be opened - there is no key hole in the door, only the key fob operates locking and unlocking the door - obviously a design problem that you ought to issue a recall on -and, read many, many complaints about the instrument cluster over many model years - again, obviously a design problem - why don't you folks make gm fix these faults ? - they are not few in number - they are not isolated - they certainly are not owner generated - make gm fix them - isn't that your job?thanks for your help and good luck, waiting to see in alabama

I have had nothing but electrical problems ever since i bought this car.i didn't even have the car for a month and the dash lights and head lights would dim on and off brought the car in to where it was purchased from and had my car for a week and replaced control module car still proceed to do the same thing brought it in to another dealership told me that this was normal because car had pcm after 4 months of going back and forth with these dealerships car was finally fixed due to a recall in a screw and wire not being grounded correctly.now my car is in the dealership with numerous electrical problems and are trying to say that car was hit by lighting car would not start burning smell came from underneath hood of car. Now car does not run over 15 mph with dying out battery only hold charge of 10 volts.

The wiring for the lighters, power ports and computer link melted. It's all part of the under-dash wiring harness.

On august 3rd, 2012 my 2005 chevrolet suburban 1500 first showed signs of the instrument panel cluster failing.the tachometer showed a reading of 5,000 rpms with the engine idling.this continued for a few days and then seemed to go back to normal.about a week later the speedometer began to indicate incorrect readings.by september 6th, 2012 i had noticed it would sometimes show a speed of 120 mph while going an actual speed 50 mph or sometimes show 29 mph while going 50 mph.for a while it was moving the needle below 0mph.i can no longer rely on the gauges of this vehicle with only 65,000 miles on it.

My speedometer recently started malfunctioning. It read 20mph when i was driving at least 50mph, then it read 90+mph when i was actually driving 30mph. Finally, my speedometer gave out and is "stuck" in the 120+mph position. Thankfully, i have a gps navigation system that has a gauge on it so i know my rate of speed. I contacted gm and they refused to remedy this "widespread" problem. They said that my "special coverage" has ended (referring to the 2008 class action suit that prompted it). I am very upset! i have read many, many forums and found that this is a very common issue. My mechanic says they replace them "all the time" and charges $700-$1,000 to fix it. In my opinion, there should be a recall on the instrument cluster panel. I just don't understand why gm won't step up and fix it free of charge.

My speedometer on my 2005 chevy suburban went out and the dealer say it would cause $500 dollars to replace it i thought that was ridiculous i went on line and seen that other people was having the same problem with their gmc vehicles there all to be a recall on the speedometer gmc is getting a bad reputation.

My 2005 chevrolet suburbanhas 79,985 miles and this week while driving route 95(70 mph highway in the south) from new jersey to south carolina my speedometer started showing a much higher speed then i was traveling. I was using my gps at the time and it said i was doing 69 mph while my gauge showed a constant climb till it reached 120 mph and flat lined beyond that point.this was a 1600 mile round trip and if i had not had my gps with me i would not know how fast or slow i was going. I was waiting for something else to go wrong.while in south carolina i went to recalls on the internetwith 2005 gm suv's and found a whole bunch of similar complaints, yet gm (chevrolet) has not done anything that i could find.i returned home today and called my local chevrolet dealer and explained to the service department what had happened and they said they never heard of thisand gave me an appointment for next monday 1/3/2011 to bring in the suv.since this car is out of service i am holding my breath as to what the bill could be.this is a very dangerous thing, i could be not looking at the gauge and be running right into a high speed error and putting my family in harms way.can anyone help?

The speedometer in my 2005 chevrolet suburban just stopped working. The needle is indicating 30mph all the time. This initially lead to me thinking i was going slower than i really was until i figured out that it wasn't working properly.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the two wheel or four wheel drive light failed to illuminate. The failure prevented the contact of knowing which gear the vehicle was in. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. While driving approximately between 55-60 mph, the speedometer displayed inaccurate readings. While traveling at any given speed the failure occurred without warning. The authorized dealer stated that the instrument cluster required replacement. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. The failure mileage was 55,000. The vin was not available. The current mileage was 56,000. Updated 11/16/10. *lj

Speedometer was ticking up and down rather than smoothly increasing and decreasing.we used cruise control when on a trip and then the speedometer started malfunctioning.since this occurred, the speedometer has been stuck past 120 mph on multiple occasions when we were going about 30.this is certainly a safety hazard for which a recall should be issued.this could cause an accident if it malfunctions while you are driving and you are unable to determine how fast you are going. You would tend to drive slower and you could be rear-ended by someone else who was either speeding or doing the correct speed limit.i was surprised to see the number of complaints about this problem and chevrolet has not stepped up to the plate and acknowledged that it is a manufacturer defect. I found out accidentally that when you start the vehicle, the speedometer resets by 5mph.i would have to start the vehicle repeatedly to get it back to zero.although this is not good for the starter, this was my only option at the time.i just saw something on the internet that said to put the vehicle in reverse and then try to start it.by doing this it would reset the speedometer by 5mph every time without engaging the starter.this did work, but when i drove the vehicle the next time, the speedometer did not work at all.i tried resetting the speedometer again by putting it in park and starting, but to no avail.after trying many more times to reset by starting the vehicle, the speedometer started to work.this is unacceptable at every level.the consumer should not have to beg and plead to get a manufacturer defect fixed.what will it take to cause chevrolet to fix this defect, accidents or fatalities?if you look at the website http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-tahoe/t2bgkbgi55eknu77c/p3you will see this is a common occurrence.

2005 chevy suburban speedometer does not show the right speed.first is was up by 30mph eventually it settled down to 10 mph and that is where its stuck, it does not show my proper speed any more.

The speedometer on my 2005 chevrolet suburban stops working at random times. It started approx. One week ago at 73000 miles.since it is out of warranty, chevrolet will not pay.there is a class action lawsuit filed for my vehicle.

The speedometer on my 2005 chevy tahoe has been acting erratically.sometimes it will work normally.other times, it will not register at all.additionally time it will read erroneously when driving traffic speeds.the selection process did not allow me to register a tahoe, only a suburban, which is why the vehicle information looks as it does.

Speedometer stayed at speed i was driving when i stopped the car.when i restarted the car it did not return to zero but started at last speed i was driving, then increase from there.speedometer finally stayed at 100 mph, it did not return to zero and i was unable to determine speed of car when driving.rpm also malfunction, it stayed at 1.5 when driving and didn't vary when i increased or decreased my speed.had to have it replaced as i could not determine speed i was driving.no official recall, only a class action suit.my make/model/year was part of the cars affected in the suit, only i didn't qualify for reimbursement of repair becausethe problem occurred outside of the 7 year 80,000 mile parameter gm set up for reimbursement.

Speedometer would go up when i increased speed but would not go back down when the vehicle slowed down.i was able to get the speedometer to reset to zero by repeatedly starting and turning off the vehicle.over the course of the next month the needle would do the same thing.i could reset it the same way.as of now its pegged at the bottom and i cannot reset it.

2005 chevrolet suburban.consumer writes in regards to vehicle odometer problems.the consumer began having problems with the speedometer approximately 2 years ago. Intermittently, the needle on the odometer would climb above the actual speed he was traveling, then move up and down tens of miles above the actual speed, at times, it would rise to 120 and remain there. When he turned the vehicle off and on again, it worked fine, until the next time. *jp

2005 chevrolet suburban. Consumerstates defective speedometer.*tgw consumer sent in duplicate letter on 3/25/2010.the consumer stated the speedometer was stuck at 120 mph. The consumer was informed her vehicle was not a part of the recall, as her vehicle identification did not fall within the range.the second problem with the vehicle was the transmission. The consumer stated the vehicle had to be towed to the dealer, due to the interal failure of the transmission. Updated 04/12/10.

Started engine, depressed brake pedal to shift into reverse. Brake pedal goes to floor with no pressure, brake and stability warning light go on. I back up, then go into drive, travel about 50 feet, apply pressure on brake pedal and again no pressure on pedal, suburban slowly stops forward movement on level surface. I return suburban to parking area and turn off engine, call service shop and make appointment for repair. Next week, 4/22 slowly drive suburban 1 mile to repair facility for service. 4/23 repair manager calls to tell me that all the brake lines are excessively rusted.

The contact owns 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that when turning the vehicle off the engine fan failed to turn off. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

Exhaust manifold bolts broken, two at back left, driver's side closest to firewall. Causing audible exhaust leak.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the abs light illuminated and there was a rattling noise coming from the engine compartment. The contact mentioned that the key would not always turn the vehicle on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the contact refused to have the vehicle diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 118,000 and the current mileage 118,500.

Oil pump oil rings to lead to oil pickup tube failed causing drop in oil pressure. This happens when driving vehicle 2 hours plus.

In motion on city and highway

First the transmission failed right after i purchased the vehicle 2 years ago. I had to buy a new transmission that wasn't cheap around $3,500. Then the front wheel bearings started with the right side last year just had a ton of play in it my mechanic found it when lifting up my truck for a tire rotation. Then the left front wheel bearing just started making a load roaring noise but had no play in it at all that i could feel when checking it out. Both cost around $250 a wheel to replace. Now my 5.3 liter engine is having a knocking sound when at a stop after driving about 30 minutes or when the engine is hot. Also i am hearing a slight ticking sound from the engine cold or hot. I have 4 small kids so i need a very reliable large vehicle and this is suburban is driving me and my wife crazy having to poor money in this vehicle every year. I am the soil provider for my family i cant afford putting all my money into a vehicle like this.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban.while driving 35 mph, the contact released the accelerator pedal and the rpm's decreased to 1,000.when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle would clunk forward.the vehicle has been diagnosed by the dealer, but the failure remains.the current mileage was 13,000 and failure mileage was 11,638.

This is a pre-cautionary complaint as a result of my shock regarding gm's 8.1l engine in the suburbans.also would apply to silverado hd as well.the vehicle is using excessive oil which to my surprise gm says is normal.oil usage is 1.25 qts per 2000 miles and gm indicated that the vehicle could use as much as 1qt per 1000 miles (assuming 10 miles to the gallon).the concern is regarding emissions durability and indirect failures as a result of this oil loading into the exhaust and catalytic converter.gm would not provide details to me but, industry norms are assuming worst case 1/2 of this level of expected oil usage.gm was unconcerned and has a bulletin for their dealers stating this.i feel this should be investigated both from a safety standpoint for potential engine failure and for emissions durability and environmental compliance.

Consumer 2005 chevy suburban navigation gives incomplete data. The dealer suggested to the consumer that he borrow the latest version dvd version 4.1 to see if the situation improves.

Gas leaked from fuel lines which were crossed when vehicle was built as result rubbing occurred and lines ruptured causing fuel to leak out.went to dealer first time this happened and wouldn't admit this is why the leak happened originally.husband has patched a few times now while we wait for new gas lines to come from gm becaus we refuse to go to dealer and use our own garage.hope new law goes into effect regarding that as well.very dissatisfied and it looks like there was another complaint about this.will not buy chevy ever again.tt

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that when she walked around the vehicle he smelled gasoline and couldn't tell where it was coming from, but noticed that there was a leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that the odor came from a fracture in the fuel lines. The mechanic advised the contact to leave his vehicle because driving the vehicle was causing the fuel lines to rub together. The fuel lines were repaired from the front and rear of the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.updated 5/2/11 updated 05/16/11

Last week, i filled up my gas tank as usual.when i went to pull off, the gas light failed to go off, the gas needle did not move and the bell to indicate that the tank was empty went off.the dealer stated that it's my fuel sending unit and that he's seen several of these defect lately...and that i should check for a recall.since, i've had to monitor when i gas up and how far i drive...which is not only frustrating, it's scary!the needle now floats from full to empty and everywhere in between, but for the most part, it rests on e.vehicle in question is 2005 chevrolet trailblazer...this model is not given as an option in later screen where i entered "suburban".i own a chevy trailblazer.thank you

Brake and fuel lines are corroded.i learned yesterday from win kelly chevrolet in clarksville, md that my brake lines are so corroded i should replace them immediately.also observed were rusty fuel lines.i, and many other suburban/silverado owners apparently agree, that this is design flaw and should be resolved by a manufacture recall.this was my first gm product; all others were dodge.i never had this issue with any of the 17 other vehicles i've owned over the past 34 years.if the corrosion is that bad i'd like to know why it wasn't noted in previous "bumper to bumper courtesy inspections".

After running vehicle, gas runs down sides from top of fuel tank, and drips under vehicle.continues to drip if car idles.stops if car is shut off.strong smell of fuel after driving vehicle

The fuel line that is on top of the gas tank rotted through. The brake and transmission lines rotted and leaked. The chassis is rotting in different places i have less than 77,000 miles on it since i bought new. I have a 1969 malibu that i've had since it was new and i keep it outside in all kinds of weather and not one part of the chassis is rotted. I don't know what kind of steel they use now to build these cars and trucks, but it should be unacceptable. I don't know the exact dates these things happened, but i do have all the repair bills for them. When the brake line rotted through i was going to the store and when i came to a yield sign the brake pedal whet to the floor. It's a good thing it happened then, because i live on a mountain and we have a road called breakneck and it is a 25% grade. It was raining the day that this happened and all i had was a little bit of foot brake and the emergency brake. I surely would have had a bad accident if i made it to that hill.

I noticed a gasoline leak in my driveway coming from under from under the 2005 suburban. The leak was almost in the center of the vehicle. I drove the vehicle to the dealership to get the gasoline leak repaired. I was billed $2,230 to repair the gasoline leak. I was given the following description on the invoice. "tested for fuel leak found sending unit & all fuel lines leaking ...". I was told that the entire fuel line system had to be replaced due to corrosion on the underside of the vehicle. I googled the corrosion problem for chevrolet suburban's and read several instances of brakes failing on gm vehicles due to corrosion. The brake failures that i read about were the result of corroded brake lines. To me the corrosion problem is a very serious safety issue, especially when you combine the fuel lines and brake lines into the problem. I asked the service tech about how long the new fuel lines would last. He told me about six or seven years. I asked if they used stainless steel fuel lines, and was told "no". Since this appears to be a design flaw, i feel that general motors should put out a notice to their customers, or at the very least help with the cost of the repairs. How can i let my family, or anyone else, ride in my 2005 suburban with only 125,000 miles and a corrosion problem? while driving all i would be thinking about is that the brakes could fail at any moment, or something would fall off the vehicle due to the corrosion problem. It's time for general motors to step up and take responsibility for the corrosion problem.

Smelled gas in garage and moved vehicle outside garage to investigate.found puddle of gas on garage floor where vehicle had been parked.crawled under vehicle and found two braided fuel lines crossing each other and resting on one another.they had worn a hole in the braided fuel line and was leaking a substantial amount of fuel.took to local repair shop for repair.mechanic had to custom rebuild fuel line to avoid criss-cross route originally installed.mechanic very concerned with existing design - pressurized braided fuel line was spewing fuel beneath vehicle.this appears to be a common problem as a quick search on http://www.aboutautomobile.com/ under "consumer complaints" finds quite a few related instances with both the 2005 avalanches and suburbans.reference complaint numbers: 10465537, 10402272, 10384217, 10275857, 10417685, 10373464, 10401501.i didn't search other model years.

Liftgate does not have a key lock entry and will not unlock using thedriver side lock/unlock door panel or the hand held key remote therefore i cannot open it at all. It is extremely frustrating since we got the suburban for the space but, besides that - in case of an emergency this could be extremely dangerous. There is no manual release. If the front end of the car were damaged and the side doors were unable to be opened there is no way of opening the rear door.i have two small children and this is of great concern to me. I get flashes of a car accident and a fire with my kids trapped inside without being able to open the rear door from outside or inside! i cannot believe there is no manual safety lever! i have seen numerous complaints about this issue with the liftgate not opening on several blogs and websites.all you have to do is type in suburban rear liftgate won't unlock.please review as i do feel this should be a recall issue before it affects the safety of consumers.

1. The rear liftgate was periodically sticking in the locked position even when unlocking the car with the key fob or the lock/unlock buttons.2. The rear liftgate is now stuck permanently in the locked position making it difficult to load/unload the rear area of the car.this is also a safety issue as rear passengers may become trapped in the event of an accident, since there is no manual unlocking mechanism for the rear lift gate.3. No corrective action has been taken yet.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that there was no key slot for the rear hatch and now the switch, which was on the drivers sidewill not open the vehicle. The contact was unable to open the window on the rear hatch as well. The dealer stated it was not under warranty, but the module that controls the rear hatch and window had failed. The failure mileage was 60000 and the current mileage was 61000.

The lift gate lock actuator on my 2005 chevrolet suburban has failed. It has no means of manual operation creating a safety issue concerning emergency exiting of the vehicle from the rear, such as frontal impact or fire.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban.whenever the contact attempts to open the rear hatch, it fails to open from both inside and outside the vehicle.prior to the failure, the contact noticed that the rear hatch would not lock properly and would trigger the vehicle's alarm system.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 51,400.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the rear lift gate lock mechanism would not operate. The vehicle was neither taken to the dealer for inspection nor was the manufacturer contacted. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 100,000.

Truck door is not opening, fuel gas defective, rear light system has electrical problem all the times, a/c system electrical problem.

Gear status indicator does not display selected gear.

Began hearing a "whining" noise under the vehicle. Noise was progressively louder at accelerated speeds. Left vehicle at local chevrolet dealer (ca) who did an inspection and diagnosed a mechanical issue possibly with the differential [ref. Claim check 175]. Service writer stated estimated repair cost for an overhaul was $3,000 vs. Higher costs to replace with used or new differential. Service writer furtherindicated continued driving could cause further damage and added cost if axle was also affected. Decided to take vehicle to a recognized powertrain repair facility who determined (also with a drive test) that the differential was the problem and gave initial $1,200 estimate. Authorized repair. Final cost was $813 and includes 1 year full warranty. Now runs smooth / quiet when driving. Technician indicated that although fluid level was good (sealed at factory), a ring inside the differential was bad (had become pitted and could have caused further issues if unchecked. Changed out ring and bearings but all other components including casing were fine. Technician stated such wear is uncommon for a vehicle with only 126k miles and with no towing on factory tow package. Is this an annomily or are there other cases of bad parts in differential for this make / model? would like to discuss further with gm zone rep. But no response!!!

In motion on city and highway

Dt*:the contact stated while being on an incline and with the gear shifter in drive the vehicle rolls back if the brakes are not applied.upon inspection the dealership determined this is the way the vehicle was designed.updated 4/14/2006 -

Faulty transmission and pressure pump.

The transmission began slipping; the car would not move from 2nd to 3rd gear; the transmission had to be rebuilt or replaced on 2/06/2008, we had it rebuilt.the vehicle only had 69710 miles. We were in a rural area at the time rather than rush hour traffic.thank goodness.

Dt*:the contact stated that the 2005 chevroletsuburban has no quick exit from the third seat and the tailgate. It takes too much force to open from the inside.the vehicle is so long the side view mirrors do not show the road very well even after adjustments are made. The brakes on the vehicle take too much force to stop the vehicle in an emergency. Lastly, the pickup on the transmission is sluggish which is a concern in emergency conditions when accelerating from a stopped position.the contact spoke with the dealer, and was referred to the manufacturer because all issues are with the design of the vehicle.

Dt: the vehicle has been in the shop 3 times for transmission problems. The dealer has changed different parts, however the problem continued.

2005 chevrolet suburban (less than 1 week old)-car was placed into park on a driveway with hill-parking foot brake was engaged-i left the vehicle and started walking into this house-at 30 yds i heard something behind me and turned to realize the car was rolling-i ran back, jumped into the car and slammed the brake on -i tested this 3 more times and repeated this condition.-the dashboard indicator is saying the car is in park, but it is not locking-an additional concern was that parking brake did not hold upwith 3 children in my household this is a major concern.not to mention it nearly ran me over.this is a brand new car!!! not more than 400 miles on it.car is currently being looked at by the chevy dealer.this is serious and thought it was important to inform the agency.i*=-

While driving into work the rear end housing exploded and the drive shaft dropped to pieces both flew all over the highway some coming out red hot.

I have a 2005 chevy suburban 4x4 and within the first 14,000 miles it has started to engage into 4w lo while driving on the freeway, in reverse, going 25 mph in residential neighborhood(this is a gear that you cannot drive over 15mph in). Needless to say that shellworth chevrolet located in vacaville, ca has been trying to fix the problem for over 25,000 miles and over 6 times in the shop. They have been unsuccessful with the last time it was in the shop unwilling to do anything for me. It has even been towed into their shop on one occasion. They no longer want to provide me with service, told me to file a complaint with gm for a buyback purchase and shoed me off. Gm says it is not eligible for the buyback program probably because of all the false and inaccurate information the service writers have documented on the work orders. I have asked to speak to gm district manager who has made this decision and he has declined to speak to me, as well as the service manager at shellworth has not returned my last 2 phone calls. The law states that they either fix my vehicle to a working order or give me a replacement vehicle. They are not doing either. On oct. 31 after arguing with them because they didn't want to handle the issue that time either they decided to go look at a different bulletin and found something, so they replaced some parts and released the vehicle to me. Since then the light has came on 2 times which is the start of the process in which it then engages to 4w lo all by itself.

The driver and passenger's side mirrors failed. The objects appeared far away than normal.this caused poor visibility.the vehicle had a tow mirror package.the consumer took the vehicleto the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that this was a design flaw from the manufacturer.the mechanic informed the consumer that the mirror could be replaced, but the driver had topay for it.the four wheel drive light had come on. *sc

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 35 mph, the seat belt on the passenger and center second row seats came unlatched on three occasions.the vehicle was driven to the dealer each time where the buckle assembly was replaced twice, however the problem recurred. Updated 12/1/2006 -

While driving the driver side heated seats ingauge by themselves and come on every time we use the vehicle. We have tried turning them back off, but they come right back on and will cycle up and down a few times then stay in the high position. I thought at first that my husband was accidentally turning them on but he wasn't. It does it all the time. There is no ryhme or reason to it. Its very distracting trying to turn them off over & over again. I could see where it could be a safety issue. I research end on the internet and have seen hundreds of post on the same issue. None of them helped with a souloutin to the problem. I put my vin # in to see if their were any recalls on this issue. And couldn't find one. My question is why? with as many complaints as there are online. Not sure if they were not complaining here about it but now at least i have. It doesn't matter whose driving it, wheater isn't a factor either. In town or highway makes no difference help please

When you apply the brakes sometimes they seem to lock up then some times the broke peddle fails to be jumpy sound like a air booster from under the dash board the car has newbrake disc and rotors.

As i was about to exit a parking lot onto a four lane roadway, the brakes on my 2005 chevrolet suburban failed. I lived approximately 1/2 mile from this location and proceeded to drive home. It was a little scarey without any stopping power, even the emergency bake would not hold. When i got home, i used a flashlight to try to find the source of the problem. Found a pattern of brake fluid leaking. Removed the spare tire to get a better look and found a brake line between the abs and rear of the vehicle had rusted out. From the looks of the line condition, they need to be all replaced. Never in my 70 years have i seen brake lines on a ten year old vehicle look like they did, really in bad shape. Looked at other lines, fuel, transmission, they all looked like they should be replaced.

I was driving on the expressway when i had to apply a strong force to the brakes in order to avoid hitting a vehicle.simultaneously, the surburban brakes became very stiff and i lost power steering at the same time.after applying an extreme excessive amount of force i was able to stop the vehicle and avoid an accident. I had to find the nearest exit and while doing so it was extremely hard to make a 15 degree turn and also extremely hard to come to a complete stop.it was very dangerous and i was scared for my life.i told a mechanic about this and he said it sound like a bad hydro booster.i looked it up online and saw that there was a recall on it.when i looked it up it said 0 open.this is definitely a safety issue.please help!.

On 4/11/2020, while traveling northbound on n. Main street, fayetteville, nc and accelerating from the stoplight at the intersection of camden road, i was required to apply the brakes forcefully and suddenly due to the actions of another motorist. Almost immediately after applying the brakes, i lost all braking power and resorted to utilizing the manual parking brake to bring the vehicle under control and drive it carefully back to my residence. At the moment of failure, the dashboard brake indicator light (aka, idiot light) illuminated and a "service brake system" message appeared on the instrument cluster. The brake indicator light continued to illuminate sporadically during the trip back to my residence when testing the brake pedal for resumed functionality.after arriving home, i performed a quick inspection of the braking system and found that the portion of the brakes lines located on the outboard portion of the driver's side frame rail had rusted and perforated near the abs module, causing the failure along with massive fluid loss (see attached pics). I performed a cursory internet search and discovered that the nhtsa has already performed an investigation into this exact issue and the investigation was subsequently closed with no recall issued by gm. Of note, gm vehicles use a manual pressure differential switch located within the brake combination valve that isolates the damaged circuit in the event of failure and also illuminates the dashboard brake light. This system did not operate in this instance as evidenced by losing all braking, as opposed to reduced braking, as well as the brake light not remaining illuminated.based on the appearance of the undercarriage and indication of rust in several spots on the body (e.g, tailgate), i believe this truck was operated in one of the rust belt states for a period of time by a prior owner.

The 2005 chevrolet suburban 2500 was traveling on a city street and the brakes became soft instantly, a collision was avoided by steering away from the cars at the intersection and the emergency brake was used.there was no warning on the sudden failure, other than a indicator on the dash.a short drive to the home driveway, the remaining brake fluid has all leaked out under the drivers door location.

Loss of brakes due to sudden loss of brake fluid from rusted main line off of master cylinder.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. While driving 20 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The contact had to apply the emergency brake andveered the vehicle to the shoulder of the road, which allowed the vehicle to come to a complete stop. The vehicle was towed by onstar to denooyer chevrolet (127 wolf rd, albany, ny 12205, (518) 458-7700) where it was diagnosed that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,795.

Brake lines have corroded and yesterday one of the lines below the driver's side door ruptured resulting in a complete loss of braking.

Rear brake line failed.my wife and kids were in the 2005 suburban 1500,she managed to press the ebrake then turn the suburban into someone's front yard where it eventually came to rest on a hill.she was headed downhill on a residential street at the time of failure.took to hundru chev in manheim pa i was told the repair will be somewhere around $2300.00

My 2005 chevrolet suburban has rusted brakes lines that will cost me $2,000 to repair.interestingly i see many national articles about the problem and a significant number of complaints filed.gm has refused to issue a recall to cover this dangerous problem; other automakers have done so.the nhtsa has been investigating this for well over 3 years and done nothing about it to date. I don't have $2,000 to have the work done, however i also can't risk the lives of my family and those of other drivers and pedestrians. This problem needs immediate action and gm should take full responsibility for the repair. Prior to this i would consider buying another suburban, however, no more gm for me! its a disgrace the gm does not value its customers and their safety and that the nhtsa has not stepped up to force a recall. Just how many people have to be seriously injured or die for action to occur?

Brakes gave out suddenly without warning.chevy dealer said lines are rusted and need replace at cost of $1600.also just replaced steering gear box pitman arm and idler arm and wheel bearing hub at a cost of $2300 because your nuts on the steering assembly have a tendency to come off.

While driving around town i noticed my brakes feeling mushy and the pedal needing to be pressed further into the floorboard. My "check brake system" light came on and upon inspection noticed that i was low on brake fluid. I filled the brake fluid reservoir to the max line. The next day the same warning light came on and i further inspected the brake lines to find that the lines from the abs box to the rear had rusted out and were leaking badly.

We bought our chevy suburban in may of 2014, 73,000 miles, garage kept vehicle. The suburban is in beautiful shape, engine compartment shows very little signs of rust or corrosion, same goes for the underside of the vehicle, very clean. This past weekend while traveling down a large hill, my wife had our two boys with her in the vehicle ages 5 and 7 when all of a sudden the brakes gave out completely, no braking power at all. If it wasn't for the emergency brake they would have been seriously hurt or worse. Upon inspection of the vehicle we found that the brake lines are completely rotted, the only part on the vehicle that looks like this. We know who owned thevehicle before us, one owner, and she did not drive this vehicle very often in winter weather. She works for a school district and has off when it snows. She also had an older car that she drove when the weather and roads were bad. These brake lines are faulty. There is no way these brake lines should look like this after 9 years on the road. My neighbor has a 2005 yukon and has the same problem. My friend [xxx] has a 2003 gmc pickup, same problem, he almost crashed into a lake when his brake lines failed. Something needs to be done about this and fast as people are going to get killed. I have pictures i can share with anyone who wants to see them. You can also contact me at any time. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Total brake failure due to steel line corrosion or rust.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban.the contact was driving approximately 5 mph when the brakes locked and the vehicle would only accelerate at a very low speed.the contact continued to drive at a low speed until she heard a loud bang and the vehicle suddenly began to pick up speed.the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired nor was the vehicle inspected for the failure. On a later date while driving 45 mph, she applied pressure to the brake pedal and the pedal abnormally depressed into the floorboard.the brakes did not respond and the contact shifted the vehicle into neutral and coasted to a stop.the vehicle was examined by an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the brake discs had failed.the vehicle was repaired.she also stated that the speedometer was inoperable.the vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was unknown.

The antilock brakes come on at low speed, which is startling and increases stopping distance.this defect is acknowleged by general motors, though they refuse to issue a recall. They tell me to pay for it myself. I am afraid that this defect will cause an accident.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the abs brakes and the stabilitrak were out of order until the abs control module part becomes available. Part#15234605 has been on back order for over three weeks and each week the dealer added two additional weeks as the availability date. The gm manufacturer was contacted and stated that there was nothing they could do. The contact filed a claim with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 88,000.

General motors recently announced an suv/truck recall for defective and unsafe anti-lock brake systems. The recall went into effect in 14 cold-weather states and canada...but it excluded wisconsin!!!! it did so because gm said it didn't have enough complaints from wisconsin.that's ludicrous! many here had the same problems as in iowa, michigan, and all the rest.i experienced the problem, took my 2001 suburban to my gm dealer for repairs, and was told i'd be reimbursed subject to the recall. Then the wisconsin exclusion was announced.many people here will be operating unsafe vehicles...and that's not right!please help.mark & sharon leider.

Manufacturer promised to purchaseconsumer's vehicle due to the hydroboost brake recall.they promised to make the first payment upon receipt of the new vehicle.owner had in her possession an alert bulletin about the hydroboost.neither manufacturer nordealership claimed responsibility.notice stated, effective immediately to stop delivery and any purchases for the suburbans and other gm trucks dated february 4, 2005.highlighted sentence stated not to allow consumers to purchase.

The events leading up to the failure was normal vehicle operation for approximately one year.the failure to the vehicle was a vibration in the steering shaft.consequences could have resulted in a loss of steering.chevrolet service lubed the steering shaft per a gm service bulletin.this repair was covered under warranty.approximately one year later, the same failure occurred.chevrolet service stated that gm has developed a new steering shaft to eliminate this problem.i will be taking my vehicle in for repair 3 days from this writing.chevrolet suggested this complaint as a method of obtaining a recall and subsequently a reimbursement for the repair.

Steering wheel. When i start my van it wants to keep turning over.and when it finally starts, the steering wheel locks up.the car lot that i bought it from says there's nothing that they can find that would cause this problem.but it keeps accruing.this has nothing to do with the dealer.they didn't make my van,gm motors did. I want to make it clear that the dealers service department was great.

This is a preventative complaint about a 2005 chevy suburban rear glass hinge. Since finding ours broken for no apparent reason, we have found many other owners of suburbans and tahoes with the same issue, some even stating the glass flew off into the road.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the liftgate failed. The contact mentioned that she was unable to open the liftgate from the inside or the outside of the vehicle since it did not have a key entry.the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the liftgate door actuator failed and the contact was unable to release the door in an open position. In addition, the vehicle was not designed with a manual lock to access the rear liftgate. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.

The driver was sitting at the stop light for approximately one minute. Both the driver and passenger heard a revving noise.the driver's right foot remained on the brake.she never put her foot on the gas pedal, yet the vehicle accelerated forward into the intersection.the suburban was struck on the driver's side by a truck, spun and was hit again on the front of the vehicle.the driver sitting at the light behind our suburban agreed that our car was at a complete stop when it suddenly went into the intersection.the suburban was deemed totaled by our insurance company.

Liftgate does not have a key lock entry and will not unlock using thedriver side lock/unlock door panel or the hand held key remote therefore i cannot open it at all. Lift gate will not open. Danger of accident and not being able to escape from the rear of the vehicle and cannot manually open.

The rear window in the rear lift door has delaminated and cracked at the passenger side of the window causing the window shift.i called general motors on 3/26/13 at 4pm and talked to a phone rep.the case #[xxx]was given to me by rep. Manager was called.bottom line, i was told that they could do nothing as it was due to "age, wear and tear".the dealer said it would cost $862.00 & $200.00 to install.they also suggested i could call safelite auto and they would install an after market glass for $462.90, parts & labor.i have seen many complaints online regarding this issue and general motors will do nothing.i did see the new suburban and seen changes in the way the window is mounted.something need to be done!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The hinge on the rear hatch glass came unbonded from the glass.this can probably cause glass movement and shattering at highway speeds.

Air conditioning will randomly switch to hot air while driving.if you stop and restart the car air conditioning will work again.

As has been reported by many others, it appears that chevrolet's problems regarding the instrument cluster in their light trucks extend beyond the 2003 and 2004 model years for which they were "offering" to extend the warranty to 70,000 miles.the speedometer in our suburban also began reading erratically about a month ago and has now pegged itself and is stuck at 120 mph.fortunately we did not have any incidents when the speedometer failed.however, i believe chevrolet may have a continuing problem and more should be done to correct this very important safety component.additionally, i would also like to mention that while i was searching for other incident reports on this matter, i discovered that the scope of this problem may be masked by the fact that it is applicable to numerous different models and years.it might be helpful for you to compile the reports for all models of the suburban, yukon and silverado trucks and their gmc clones for the 2003 to 2005 or 2006 model years. I believe that if you combine these different models, you will see that the scope of this problem is quite larger than it might appear for each of these models separately.

The wiring for the lighters, power ports and computer link melted. It's all part of the under-dash wiring harness.

Truck door is not opening, fuel gas defective, rear light system has electrical problem all the times, a/c system electrical problem.

The rear liftgate will not unlock.there is no manual release or "key bypass" for the rear liftgate lock. This presents a serious safety issue in case of fire or crash.

On two occasions my 2005 suburban has stayed on cruise control even after turning off cruise control.my vehicle kept a constant speed at which it was set when i had the cruise control on.this has occurred on flat highways.i was not descending.

The driver was sitting at the stop light for approximately one minute. Both the driver and passenger heard a revving noise.the driver's right foot remained on the brake.she never put her foot on the gas pedal, yet the vehicle accelerated forward into the intersection.the suburban was struck on the driver's side by a truck, spun and was hit again on the front of the vehicle.the driver sitting at the light behind our suburban agreed that our car was at a complete stop when it suddenly went into the intersection.the suburban was deemed totaled by our insurance company.

Tach and speedometer not workin

2005 chevrolet suburban.consumer writes in regards to vehicle odometer problems.the consumer began having problems with the speedometer approximately 2 years ago. Intermittently, the needle on the odometer would climb above the actual speed he was traveling, then move up and down tens of miles above the actual speed, at times, it would rise to 120 and remain there. When he turned the vehicle off and on again, it worked fine, until the next time. *jp

The speedometer issue started 1 year ago, the speedometer shows needle stuck on 0 or all the way down to right side.now issues with the gas gauge and oil gauge are happening also mechanic has checked on this and stated that replacement needed.

The rear window in the rear lift door has delaminated and cracked at the passenger side of the window causing the window shift.i called general motors on 3/26/13 at 4pm and talked to a phone rep.the case #[xxx]was given to me by rep. [xxx]@ 866-790-5600 ext.[xxx].i was advised to go to the chronic chev. Dealer in griffin ga. Where i purchased the vehicle so they could see the situation.the area dist. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the glass window detached from the rear lift gate hydraulic hinges causing it to hang loosely. The contact mentioned that he had to completely remove the glass from the rear lift gate to prevent it from breaking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician verified the failure and stated that the glass needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure and current mileage was 94,000.

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning blower not fully functional on all blower speeds, runs continuously with the ignition off.discharges battery with ignition keys removed, and has a burning smell.

*sc

It wouldn't let me pick tires i have a set of 4 bridgestone deuler h/l and the tires have 2 tires have 6/32 of tread and the other 2 had 8/32 and on all 4 tires the belts are separating !!! i used to have a cdl license and drive tow trucks and if i got pulled over by the state whether it be by d.o.t. Or state police i would receive tickets and possibly be stuck at weigh station waiting for a tire repair service to show up !!
