No deployment of the air bag during accident causing the consumer to jam his hand on the steering wheel and to injure his back.nlm
November 2004 i had an auto accident, i was driving home late at night after my husband and i had been out to dinner with a friend on leave from the military.we were on the way to pick our kids up from my parents and it was misting outside. I was on a 4 lane highway traveling southbound on the far inside left hand lane, the next thing i knew i was facing the police station head-on at 35 mph. I tried to correct the wheel and my husband also grabbed the wheel and tried to correct it, didn't work i think the wheel broke because we crashed into the police station. I had to kick my door open and run inside to have them call an ambulance, my husband was pinned against the wall, his face busted the passenger window out, and the dash, theradio and glove box was in our lap and the windshield shattered. We were wearing seatbelts and the front and side was totaled but the air bags did not deploy. The only working doors were the back hatch and the rear driver side door, the passenger door was caved in on my husband and he was forced across the console he had to be pulled from the auto.he was transported to the er and ended up missing weeks of work from his injuries , i refused treatment with only my knee and foot hurt. I was found not at fault and no tickects were wrote. We had been having front end problems that chevy mechanics and other mechanics could not explain. Yes they saw and heard the problem but didn't know howor have a way to fix it,i believe that is why we crashed something with the front end. I reported to the police that my husband grabbed the wheel trying to correct it but they wrote it as he grabbed me causing the wreck; needless to say i corrected the error but they didn't correct their report. I contacted chevy about the incident and wanted to know why my airbags didn't deploy, they called me on a sunday but nothing was ever done.

The vehicle was destroyed and towed to an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 270,000.
After taking my truck in for a complete fuel system cleaning service, i started to hear a rattling sound every time i turned on the ac.i took it back to the dealership (capital chevrolet in montgomery, alabama) thinking that they forgot to tighten up something -- only to find out i need a new ac compressor.i overheard the service technician say that there is a bulletin out on this.i called the 800# but have not gotten a response in over a week.i was told by 2 independent service mechanics that this is a major problem with that the suburban and tahoe!!!december 2002. Attempted to stop suddenly. Brakes locked and the car went into a terrible skid. Was unable to control the brakes by pumping. The car eventually skidded off the road into a ditch causing tremendous front-end damage. Air bags never deployed. Car was going about 25 miles/hour when brakes were applied.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 10 mph another vehicle struck the contact in the side at about 40 mph.the vehicle turned sideways in an intersection and the side impact airbags did not deploy.the contact and driver of the other vehicle, while wearing seat belts, sustained injuries.the contact sustainedneck/left shoulder, back, knees, and lower leg injuries, and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where she was treated and released.the policetook a report at the scene.the vehicle was totaled by the insurance agency.the manufacturer inspected the vehicle and determined the severity of the accident did not warrant side impact airbag deployment.
First incident: veh. Would crank but not start. Turned out to be fuel delivery fuse. Replaced, and ran fine for several weeks. Second incident: driving at approx. 55 mph, vehicle lost power, started sputtering as if out of gas although it was 1/4 full. Unable to exceed 25 mph due to little/no power. Was towed to autoparts store, cleared codes, veh ran fine for about 2 days, then lost power. Towed home. Looked up info on internet, found recalls for fuel pump. Called local chevy dealership, inquired about recall, was told that recall was only on half-ton suburbans and since mine is 3/4 ton, it was not covered by recall. I replaced fuel module myself and discovered the covering of the wires inside the fuel module assembly had melted, allowing the bare wires to rub against each other, shorting out the fuel delivery system (which likely caused the blown fuse to begin with). I am very upset that my suburban is not covered by the recall, even though it is virtually the same system as what is in the the 1/2 ton suburbans, and the same problem exists (as evidenced by not only my own experience, but many others' experiences as well). I am extremely disturbed that under the right circumstances, fuel vapors, plus spark of bare wires touching, could ignite, causing fire and/or explosion. Possibly with my family of six in the vehicle.
We noticed that the driver's side mirror of my wife's 2001 tahoe appeared to have a melted place on the bottom of the plastic housing.there was a green/yellow circle in the center of the mirror where it appeared to have gotten to hot.i removed the mirror which was connected by four wires.two wires went to the heating element and the other two controlled the automatic dimming feature.on the inside of the dimming feature wiresthere appeared to be black residue.you could clearly see thatthe molded plastic on the back of the mirror had melted along the outside edge (digital pictures available if needed). I called the dealer and ordered a mirror that only had the heated feature without the dimming effect.i installed this on the logic that i could leave the defective wires disabled.so far everything seems to be working just fine.the price of the replacement was $35.00 (heater only) and if i had ordered the dimming feature with it ($267.00) "which i think is ridiculous".even though i was out the expense and time spent fixing the mirror my hope is that you can research this and possibly keep someone else's vehicle from the potential of burning up or worse yet burning up in there garage and catching there house on fire.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact also mentioned that the ignition was abnormally loose. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
While driving or idling the electrical system shut down intermittently and caused the vehicle to stall.the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the dealer replaced the electrical system, but the problem recurred.the dealer still was unable to determine the cause of the problem.the rear floor plastic plate had broken, the left rear window motor was inoperative up and down, the driver's side seat was coming apart by the door, seat track had broken, the right front seat belt shoulder strap sometimes tightened up, there was noise in the rear end had a harmonic vibration, the right second window would not go down, the passenger side seat belt in the front locked up right front retractor locked, the rear passenger side door squeaks really bad, the molding for the rubber coming off, and passenger side front light had come out. *sc
Electrical:if key is turned to accessory; after approximately 10 minutes the battery is drained and car will not start.this has been going on for 3 years even with a new battery replacement.also, frequently the clock display will be on the wrong time and lights flicker when using the power windows.
We have a 2001 chevrolet suburban.starting in september 2003, when the gas level got to 1/2, the gas gauge would drop to empty and the low fuel light would go on, then the light would go off and the gas gauge would go back to 1/2.this happened intermittently.the vehicle was taken to the dealership october 20, 2003.they said they tested, inspected and returned the vehicle to me on october 22, 2003.they said they could not find anything wrong and could not get it to fail again. On october 26, 2003,the same thing happened only the vehicle "shut down" without warning.it could not be re-started and the vehicle had to be towed to a dealership, there they" replaced pcmb fuse blown and fuel system circuit had a short to ground, found wires at module burned.they replaced fuel module, fuel pump relay and fuses".on january 12, 2004, the vehicle again "shut-down" without any warning.it restarted in about 20 minutes.i took the vehicle to the dealership and they have been driving it for about four weeks, but can find nothing wrong with it and it has not shut down again.they have not done anything to fix it as the problem is "intermittent" and the problem of shutting down could not be replicated.they can find no specific cause.the dealership wants me to pick up the vehicle tomorrow, february 12, 2004. There is no advance warning when the vehicle shuts down causing loss of power to brakes, steering and all other components.this is a potentially disastrous problem, a very serious safety issue and could be life threatening.
On march 16, 2017, i was travelling on a mountain highway in northern california in my 2001 suburban with the driver's seat heater on.i was sitting on a thin seat cushion.twenty minutes into the 40 minute trip, i turned my seat heater off.ten or so minutes later,i smelled a horrible rubber/plastic burning smell.when i reached my destination, i lifted my cushion and saw that the seat had a burned hole through the leather and into my seat cushion.it was warm, but i did not see a flame.when i got home in the bay area, i contacted gm, and they opened a case number and told me to take my vehicle to a dealer, and they would investigate.i received a call yesterday from the customer service rep., and she told me that they would not be covering this as my car was out of warranty, in so many words.i asked what the dealer had found, and she couldn't tell me.i reiterated to her that this is a safety concern for me.my passenger side seat heater is now getting very hot, and i am concerned now about that.please note, the driver's seat heater is still working if you accidentally hit the button on the door.today, i found out from the dealer that they were not instructed by gm to look into the seat to see what caused this, only to take pictures, etc.nobody knows why it happened.how can they deny anything without determining the cause is my thought.aren't they concerned their seats overheat?should they be warning the public?my seats are in very good condition, even though it is an older vehicle.interesting to note when we picked the car up from the dealership that the service writer said i shouldn't worry since it is not working now because a wired probably broke (everything is probably or maybe).i corrected him and showed him that it does.he was very surprised to see that it still did.so, the question is why did it overheat.please advise.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start without warning.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the came shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired because the replacement part was not readily available. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000. Updated 04/15/14 ma
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the lights on the instrument panel stopped illuminating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer stated that the instrument panel needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 115,000 and the current mileage was 145,000.
Starting about three weeks ago, our 2001 suburban would "shut down" without warning.it could be re-started.this happened 15 - 20 times during these three weeks.it has been in and out of the dealership during this period and the problem could be replicated at the dealership on occasion.as of now there is no cure and work continues.it's believed to be electrical in nature.to this point, the wiring from the key-switch to the computer has been bypassed, the on-board computer has been replaced, the ignition module has been replaced.the problem persists, with a potentially disastrous out come.
My vehicle's "service engine soon" light continues to light up even after having the code erased.many other owners of chevrolet suburbans have the same issue.obd code p0332 states the knock sensor has low voltage.the problem many people have is when water or moisture gets into the engine compartment water begins to pool over the sensor and seep into the sensors.the lacking of water seal in this pooling area damages the sensors.the vehicle thus cannot pass it's bi-yearly smog test and also creates a false sense of vehicle reliability. If other issues come up other than the bad sensors the driver would never know.
Battery warning light comes on, vehicle engine dies. Can be restarted in a few seconds. Has happened 2 times in 3 months.dealer didnt rectify problem, they are puzzled.
We own a 2001 chevrolet suburban.beginning about three weeks ago the engine would shut off without warning.this has happened many times.the vehicle has been in the dealers shop nearly constantly for three weeks and they can find no specific cause or a cure for the problem.
Heated power mirrors with dimming feature has a liquid inside that has turned dirty brown restricting sight rearward. The power switch adjusting the rearview mirrors inop. Cd player inop. Sunroof inop. Sunroof gets stuck inside its rails in open position. Unable to open or close. Engine leaves polls of oil inside my garage approx 1qt. Pr 1000 miles. Just had a catastrophic transmission failure with a very close call accident, loosing 3rd and 4th gear requiring complete rebuild of transmission, drive axle leaking oil. And of course all this happens just out of warranty.this car today costs $ 50,000.-with this trim package. Has only 81000 on odometer. Gm this is not good enough, shape up or ship out. This is my 3rd lemon from gm. Do they not make cars that'll last past warranties any more??
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that he noticed smoke emitting from under the hood and after opening the driver side door, he realized that the driver heated seat had caught on fire. The fire department was contacted who filed a report. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offered any assistance and file a report. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 190,000.
Battery connection cables-cables wiggle loose and car cannot be started.this has occurred numerous times in the past 4 months. The dealership states that they know this is a problem however, they saythere is no way to fix it.
The horn fuse kept burning out. Consumer took the vehicle to dealer, and no dfects were found. Later, while parking in the driveway, it started to blow own its own.headlights went off while being driven, and currently they do not work at all.
We bought a 2001 chevy suburban , brand new. Since we owned it, the air conditioner motor failed the first month, front left shock pops when turning, driver's seat warmer doesn't work(possible faulty switch), the 5.3 liter engine knocks and pings like crazy even when using 93 octane fuel on a steady basis. The front passenger seat was found to have cracked seat rails but dealer had no replacement rails, have to order them. Gas gauge doesn't read right (when on the red line it still has 6 gallons in the tank or 20% fuel left) the thing is a piece of crap! gm didn't give a darn either. If you call to complain you get the run around. This is their top of the line passenger truck (suburban lt) and definitely not something they should be proud of. I definitely will not buy another, my parents just bought a new ford expedition since they saw all the crap breaking on this thing. Other friends have also not gm after seeing first hand my brand new lemon. Another friend of mine is on his 3rd replacement motor for his camaro window. He bought ac delco motors each time and they all stopped working within one year. All of these products, including my suburban are being made in mexico i just found out. I think that they must have a big problem with quality control down there or their sampling size is nil. Well i hope gm has made a bundle of profits off nafta because they've definitely lost at least 7 sales that i know of due to my $40,000 piece of crap. I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone. I have heard of others complaining of the same pings/knocks in their 5.3 liter gm engines. Does anyone know of a class action lawsuit regarding this? oh and the emergency brake is way too loose.
Vehicle stalled in the middle of a turn when driving 20-25 mph in a residential area.
Driving down the highway at 70 mph the vehicle ceased to operate.luckily we were on a straight-away and able to coast to a stop on the shoulder.however our routes usually take us through the mountains and when the vehicle lost all control,ie; no brakes no steering, at any posted speed limit that could be dangerous.the dealer informs me that the main computer went out. There was absolutely no warning what so ever.the component just failed. The dealer advises me that the replacement part is of the same "grade" no updates for this part exist.this is not a comforting thought.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact was driving approximately 55 mph when he noticed that the fuel gauge displayed empty which was inaccurate; however, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was towed to his residence. The contact repaired the vehicle by replacing the fuel pump module. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000. Updated 08/24/10 *ljthe consumer stated the electrical wring in the fuel pump module had melted the insulation and was causing a short in several placed. Updated 08/24/10
Wiring to fuel pump inside of gas tank getting hot enough to melt wire insulation and plastic connector resulting in gas leak at fuel pump module. Had replace fuel pump module, but its my concern that a fire could be caused by overheated wires inside of fuel tank.
Fuel pump wiring melted inside gas tank and caused vehicle to stall at highway speed in heavy traffic.power steering and power brakes were lost making it difficult to control vehicle and safely get to the shoulder.mechanic who replaced the pump owns an older suburban andhad his fuel pump fail multiple times until he replaced it with an aftermarket pump.
The electrical center would shutdown the total electrical system to the car. The first two time occured while the car was parked. But was indicated by the radio had lost power which locked the anti-thieft system. The last time was while driving the car at 45 mile per-hour. The car engine stopped running. The engine did restart after stopping.
2001 chevy suburban 1500electrical from time i bought vehicle radio would reset time to 1:00 (default) for no reason. Dealer replaced radio and problem persisted. Now the radio works some of the time mostly not at all, and the cd player works some of the time. Lights dim often when driving, obviously more noticeable at night and long trips. We had the alternator checked to be sure we didn't get stranded and it was fine. Last week, the low beam lights started working some of the time.when you switch from high to low beams you have no beams, next time you might have low beam. The seat adjustment for person one and two, has lost its memory on a couple occasions so chevy replace that. I am concerned that this is and electrical problem and going to turn into a fire hazard. I feel like chevy is only replacing what they can and not really finding the source of the problem.they have not been willing to look into far enough to resolve the real issue.
Vehicle lost allpower at highway speed.
While driving at high speeds (65 mph), the electrical system shuts down without warning.lost of engine power, power steering, power brakes, etc.this has happened twice in 6 months.the problem is the ecm-b fuse blowing.the dealer says that everything checks out and that it is a random problem.i can't imagine putting my wife and four kids in a car that shuts off with no warning.
Vehicle shut down whileconsumer was driving. The ecm fuse blew out and popped out. Consumer replaced the ecm fuse, and the vehicle started. Dealer did not know what caused the problem.these occurrences happened several times in any given day.the manufacturer stated there were nosimilar complaints.
Dt:the consumer owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban.in october 2004 the vehicle quit.a fuse was replaced at a cost of $137.75.this amount included the towing fee.on 12-07-04, the vehicle experienced the same problem.the consumer had to pay $306.00 to have another fuse replaced.this included diagnostic fees.on 12-14-04, the same problem occurred and the dealer replaced the fuel pump at a cost of $567.55.the contact received recall campaign# 05v155000 concerning the fuel pump about three-four months ago.the dealer and general motors refused to reimburse the consumer for the aforementionedwork performed because the recall hadn't occurred.the recall stated that the consumer would be notified on 10-19-05 because the parts were available.the consumer thought that this was a very unusual amount of time for him to wait for reimbursement.(11/22/05)*sc
Vehicle stalled on 4 lane highway----fuses blown- almost caused accident---has stalled several times- not repaired-still stalling and blowing fuses.

The bolts that hold the exhaust manifolds down are breaking off at the heads and causing exhaust leaks.which are in turn causing my catalytic converters fail prematurely.i hope gm fixes this massive problem with there ls v8 engines!

I just fix my head gasket from leaking 2 weeks later the transmission gave out a week later the sensor gave out then the other sensor knock sensor 2 thenthe sensor pump gave out too with in6 months and cost me about 4000 after tax chevy.
The vehicle displayed a loud noise that sounded like a muffler and or vacuum.the vehicle was taken to the dealer in which they had taken diagnostic tests but wasn't sure what the problem was.they then stated that there was a known problem with the intake system in which air would surround the engine.the problem seemed to worsen each time the vehicle was in motion.the right front window was inoperative due to the motor going bad.*sc
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the vehicle would sporadically become hesitant to start. The vehicle would also stall periodically without warning.the vehicle was inspected by the dealer and the contact was advised that the failure was caused by the camshaft position sensor. When vehicle is first started after sitting for an 8 hour period there is excessive engine lifter noise. After the vehicle warms up, the noise goes away. Local gmc dealer says they cannot hear the noise.
I have a 2001 chevy suburban that completely stalled out, (sept 29,2011) when i was getting ready to transport my four young children to school.please note, that i'm in an area that is not accessible by public transportation.this means that when my car is down, i'm at the mercy of friends and neighbors which is quite an inconvenience. I hired a service guy to diagnose the problem and he said it was a problem with the crankshaft.while ordering the part, he was notified that the part was on a recall list. I checked the website nhtsa.gov to verify and the recall#07v521000 did exist.i contacted the chevy dealer (nash chevrolet) in snellville and was told that my vin# was not in the batch and if they serviced it, the cost would be $2500. I contacted the manufacturer and was told that my problem could be attributed to wear and tear.i would like to know if there is any possibility to get the dealer to repair my carand if it'spossible to have the investigation reopened and the scope adjusted to include all 2001 suburbans that are nonconforming.i would like to also know, how does gm/chevy determine which customers deserve to be safe on the road, and why weren't all their qualifying consumers notified.is gm above the law?how is it that gm is not allowed to comply to these federal laws after an investigation has been conducted?does gm only respond to their customers if their is death and dismemberment or if litigation is involved? please advise.
While making a u-turn the vehicle stall. Condition causes loss of power assist and power brakes. No incident has occurred due to this issue. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban.while driving 70 mph, the vehicle would randomly shut off and completely stop.the other components, such as the radio, were still operable.the power steering and brakes were always affected and would become inoperable.occasionally, the vehicle immediately restarts and other times, the contact must wait a couple of minutes.the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v521000 (engine and engine cooling).the dealer was not notified.the failure mileage was 59,000.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while driving 15 mph the vehicle stalled without any warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was unknown.
Rear hvac coolant lines (2) were severed causing coolant loss.manufacturing defect involving frame mounted hvac lines that pass against a frame member junction.the lines were pressed hard against the frame member junction which eventually ends up slicing the hvac lines.when repaired, chevrolet routed new hvac coolant lines away from all safe points.*la
When the consumer slowed the vehicle down to make a turn, theengine shut off.
My 2001 suburban has stalled in traffic twice.i was able to turn the ignition off and then restart the engine both times.i have experienced trouble starting the car as well.problem goes away if the ignition is switched off and on several times.i am very concerned about the stalling in traffic.the vehicle is large and difficult to control without power steering and brakes.it is also very dangerous to be stalled in rush hour traffic.
Vehicle experienced engine power failure.*mr the engine continued to run, there was a rattling/ knocking noise but no power. *ph
I own a 2001 suburban. The truck uses 1 qt of motor oil to every 1000 miles. The dealer is fredrick chevrolet of lebanon, pa. The gm song they sing is that this is normal for a 5.3 engine. I can't believe that this is normal. Does gm have a problem and don't want to own up to it? what about pollution?
There was an engine knocking problem.the dealer and the manufacturer were contacted.the consumer was given a letter that certified that the manufacturer was aware of this problem, and the vehicle was okay to drive.the consumer disagreed, and felt the vehicle was not safe.there was a noise, rubbing sound when the brakes were applied.there were knocks during the initial start of the day, and the window was noisy while operating as the regulator cable was loose. *scc
Vehicle shuts off on freeway with no advance warning causing loss of power to brakes, steering and all other components.incident happened on more than one occasion.dealer could not duplicate or repair problem.
I had a 2001 chevy suburban with an oil consumption problem. It used 1 to 2 quarts of oil every 2000 miles. After several complaints to the dealer and gm i was forced to file a lawsuit which was heard by an arbitraitor. I was awarded full msrp vaule of the vehicle while gm maintained their position that nothing was wrong even after failing their oil consumption test. I now have a 2002 2500 suburban with no problems. The engine in the 2001 1500 suburban has an oil consumption problem !!! dealer still refuses to refund extended warranty monies .
Vehicle has shut off several times while traveling at highway speed.after coasting to the shoulder and several attempts, the truck restarts.the truck also sputters during acceleration.the dealer has replaced the crankshaft sensor several times and has replaced four warped rotors that caused the brakes to be spongy.two of the power window motors have been replaced due to inoperative windows.the oil level in the truck drops between (frequent) visits to the dealership.the low oil indicator light first illuminated when the truck had only been driven 3900 miles.the dealership can't find a leak.
Car stalled suddenly at 40 mph, losing power steering in traffic.after a few minutes the car restarted.intermittently stalls.while gm has recalled 2001 suburbans for crank position failures in this year model, my particular vin number was not covered by the recall.i purchased replacement part and corrected the problem.gm refused to reimburse.very dangerous situation.no wonder gm is in decline with the lack of response to a very strange and dangerous engine stall with absolutely no warning.
Oil consumption, steering column, side door panels, rear-end, seats cracking, front popping noise, steers to right constantly. This has been an ongoing thing since we bought the vehicle new in 2001. We have complained to the consumer reporting agency here in n.c. And also talked to the dealer and manufacture on numerous occasions. Dealer said they have had several vehicles with oil consumption that they have traded because of it and they just kept telling us it is within manufacture limits. They have tried to fix the oil problem but with no success. Also the steering has been broken down twice because of its problem. The door panels are still not fixed after 2 tries. The rear-end has been worked on 2 times because of differential fluid, the steering wheel still scrubs when turning to the right and the driver's seat is starting to crack. The consumer people in raleigh will not help us after we filled the complaint, they wrote us and told us to hire a lawyer and the manufacture only offered us a $1000.00 owner/loyalty certificate towards a new vehicle. What is our next step without hiring an attorney?
Engine knocking after start up. Much worse on cold days.
My 2001 chevy suburban 2500 lt has 52000 miles it is burning oil on long trips. It has been in the shop four times for this. Chevy does not want to pay for this problem because it is not a recall as of now. They want my private warranty to pay for this.i also have a fifty dollar deductible that i must pay. There is a tsb on this which i have a copy of. I also think the engine sounds like it has a slight knock. I was told there is a recall on the brakes for rust corrosion which it has been two weeks and i have not received my recall. I am afraid to drive this car. About four months ago, i was driving this vehicle and it would just die. I would lose all power . It was very hard to steer it to the side of the road. Luckily i never had anyone behind me or they would have slammed into me. It was in the shop for this twice. The first time they said it was probably the oil filter so i picked it up and it did it again. I told theservice manager i was afraid to drive this truck and if something happens to my family i would sue them well the second time they found the problem it was something with the fuel injector. I am very dissatisfied with this truck and i also feel chevy is not backing their truck.
Vehicle burns 1 to 2 quarts per 1,000 miles driven.have done 5 oil consumption tests and gm says that although vehicle failed oil consumption test the test were not done properly therefore i must do another. Asked gm what they would do if vehicle failed oil consumption test again and they stated that were not sure.gm refuses to fix oil consumption problem which could lead to serious mechanical failure and possibly bodily harm.
# 1. The day after i first puchased and picked up my vehicle it smoke us out of the parking garage on our vacation in oceanside, ca.#2 the brakes were very spongy and not anything like the one i demoed when i found this vehicle. I almost had an accident on route to oceanside. The last two trips in this has not been fixed and i had to rent a car again.# 3 about the 3 rd. Day into our new vehicle i noticed the parking brake wouldn,t always hold the vehicle, even after putting it in gear, with the brake fully applied it would fail but not all the time. # 4 after reporting the smoking problem, (still on-going) i had a no oil pressure warning and notice the gage didn't respond for about 10 seconds after starting the engine, then i had pressure but a constant low oil warning kept appearing on the message center. This is when it only had 1400 miles on it. I noticed some oil spots forming where i parked, i crawled under near the right rear side of the motor to find oil dripping from the engine and off the suspension near the engine. Its now been in 3 times for smoking, leaks and various other engine noises (lifters, right bank). # 5 the vehicle has pulled to the right since new. I called them, they said wait till you get a few miles on it so everything breaks in. Wrong answer. I checked the tire pressure. It was uneven on all tires, mind you they were supposed to check this before i purchased the vehicle. Average psi 30, should be 40-44psi cold. It helped but still pulled to the right. At 5000 miles i personally rotated the tires, this still didn't fix it. Upon bringing it in for all the formentioned and last problem which by the way required renting a car twice they finally took a look at it and know it pulls to the left and the steering wheel is no longer level. # 6 the right bucket seat won't lock in at the hinge point properly. They said there was a fix coming for the engine and the seat from the factory but as of yet nothing from chevy or the dealership.

Gas fumes can be smelled inside and outside the vechicle when outside temps reach over 105 degress.has been witnessed by two chevrolet service managers and head mechanic.has been serviced 5 times by bradley cheverot and i have been told that the regional rep has stated that the fumes both visable and odor are very normal.both the service manager and head mechanic have stated that they feel the car is not safe and would not put their families in my vehicle.the vechile smells up my entire home with gas fumes and has to be parked outside of the garage.the engineers have asked that a couple of parts be changed on my vechile to pasaify me, but that it is probably my fault, i must have over filled the gas tank - and i was asked "just what exactly are you doing mrs. Anderson to cause this problem?".i have been told by the dealership that several cars in las vegas and texas have reported the same problems.
Transmission has not been shifting correctly for a long time. Became very noticeable in july of 2001. Rear air sometimes does not turn off when ignition is off. Front airs sometimes cuts self off and begins to blow warm air. Although not applicable. The dealership has changed out front and middle seat covers from cracking problem i talked with gm and they advised the dealership to correct these since i do still have a warranty. I am still unsatisfied with the performance of my vehicle. This is the 3rd suburban i have owned. The other 2 were gmc's. I never had a problem of this nature before. This one has been annoying with small problems since day one!dt
My vehicle spontaneously caught on fire. The smoke started coming out of the cd/radio.within minutes the smoke was so thick that our eyes were burning and it was difficult to see and breathe.by the time i got the car over and evacuated 5 kids and a dog, fire was actually visible.the flame was coming out of the cd player.
*sc
The horn fuse kept burning out. Consumer took the vehicle to dealer, and no dfects were found. Later, while parking in the driveway, it started to blow own its own.headlights went off while being driven, and currently they do not work at all.
Automatic transmission failed, dealer only "reconditioned" the transmission, i have taken the vehicle back to the dealer for transmission repairs;rubbing , bumping noises from transmission, i hava not trust in this vehicle because of the long history of mechanical problems and defects, i want the manufacturer to replace this vehicle and not wait until a mechanical failure hurt me or my family or innocent people in the road. The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban.while driving 35 mph in the rain, the abs light illuminated.when the contact turned off the engine, it made a humming sound.he disconnected the module and the humming stopped.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer the following day and they replaced the module under warranty.three years later, the failure recurred.he purchased the third module and had it replaced by a local mechanic.three weeks ago, the contact noticed that the turn signals on his vehicle were intermittently illuminating.as of june 12, 2008, the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 80,000.updated 07/08/08.the consumer also stated there was a delayed engagement from reverse to drive.updated
Twice, consumer noticed a line of gas on the ground in parking lot coming from the vehicle.once was leaking from the fuel pump module connector and once from a faulty seal between the fuel tank sending unit and the gas tank.this problem only occurred when the tank was full.
Dt: the contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban.while driving on the highway on september 15, 2005 vehicle the fuel module melted wires that tripped the circuit breaker which shut the car off.the failure occurred under the hood.no crash reported.vehicle did go into other lanes. A recall was issued for the fuel module but the recall kit was not available.the dealer replaced the old faulty module with a new faulty module which mean that the consumer's vehicle could stall again.the dealer doesn't know when the recall kit will arrive.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the vehicle would either stall while driving various speeds or fail to start. An independent mechanic examined the vehicle and stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number: 05v155000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 141,229.
After filling up with gas at sam's, i drove down to the sams store to make purchases. When i returned to my vehicle, a pool of gas was underneath and beside my suburban causing a huge fire hazard. The fire dept. Was called to the scene and offered to escort us to our choice of repair location. The local chevrolet dealership replaced the fuel module which they said had "gone bad" and caused fuel to be pumped out of the tank. The possible hazards to me and my family associated with this fuel leakage terrify me.

Fuel leak due to fuel pump wiring and connector.lost 3/4 tank of gas.
The consumer discovered gas leaking from under the vehicle.thedealer stated the electrical over heating of the fuel pump module caused the leak.the wires entered the fuel tank charged and caused the cap to melt/deform which resulted in the leakage.
I stopped to get gas 1 mile from my house on the way to work.i filled the tank and got back in the car.when i tried to start the engine it continued to turn over but would not start.i tried 3 times.a person behind my 2001 suburban noticed gasoline leaking beneath the car.it initially was leaking about a 1/4 gallon per minute. The fire department and hazard response team was called.the spill was limited to 2 gallons.a toe truck took the car to the dealer.the dealer determined that a short had occurred inside the fuel tank which caused the fuel pump to melt and leak to the atmosphere.the service rep (trent) told me he had not seen this before.i was also told that it was unlikely to cause a fire because it is in a low oxygen environment.however, i found several complaints about the same problem with 2001 suburbans on the internet in less than 5 minutes of searching after returning home.the 2001 suburban has only $44,000 miles on it.i believe this is a very serious incident needing immediate remedy from the manufacturer.the cost of the repair was $731.01. A new fuel pump module 25315983 and filter 25171792 was installed.cost of parts alone was $441.88.the rest was tax and labor.in addition i paid towing cost in the amount of $ 99.84.
Vehicle stalledwhile driving. Also failed to start.these failures weredue todefective fuel pump. When the diagnostic test was performed fuel pump wasn't holding pressure.vehicle was serviced 11 times by eight different dealerships for this issue. The fuel pump was replaced, but the failure recurred.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that after receiving a recall notice in reference to nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) and for 05v155000(fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump). The first recall repaired the failure that occurred seven months later when the abs lights illuminated on the instrumental panel. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer who stated that he needed to replace the braking module and the ebcm. The vehicle was repaired. The second recall notice was issued the failure occurred later in 2010 when the vehicle stalled while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised him that the fuel pump and the fuel filter needed to be replaced. The fuel pump and filter were repaired. The failure mileages was approximately 120,600. Updated 03/24/11*ljupdated 04/28/11
I recently had the fuel pump unit replaced on my 2001 suburban for the 2nd time.the vehicle is only 2.5 years old with 19,000 miles.this is a very dangerous problem because the vehicle just shuts down while driving and will not restart.this most recent time i was in the middle of rush hour traffic on the upslope of a hwy bridge.luckily i was not rear ended while waiting for assistance.i feel there is some type defect in this product.i even asked the service advisor at the dealership if this is a common problem and he said yes.please initiate an investigation into this issue.to have this problem 2x within 2.5 years is dangerous and unreasonable.i saw the warranty papers and it cost over $500 each time to replace the fuel pump.when is it going to go out next?where will i be?and who is going to pay for it when the car is soon out of warranty?
Wiring to fuel pump inside of gas tank getting hot enough to melt wire insulation and plastic connector resulting in gas leak at fuel pump module. Had replace fuel pump module, but its my concern that a fire could be caused by overheated wires inside of fuel tank.
Fuel pump wires experienced an electrical short.as a result, the fuel tank produced a hole, causing leakage when putting in fuel.
The fuel pump failed, which caused the engine to shut down.

This is my 2nd complaint.first was odi # 10088120.since posting that complaint, my fuel pump has failed 2 more times.i have been trying to research this on the web, and have found quite a number of similar complaints in automotive forums about fuel pumps failing in suburbans and chevy trucks from many different years.these complaints don't seem to have made it to the nhtsa.it also seems that once the problem arises, it continues.there must besome underlying defect in the vehicle that is causing these pumps to fail.i think it is ridiculous that i will have to tradethis car in because i can't keep it running, and it isn't even paid for yet.
With engine running, there is always a loud whine noise from fuel tank. I suspect maybe fuel pump. 52000 miles. Http://www.automotiveforums.com/f1451-suburban.htmlyou should add "automotive forums" to your source list on this website.

The vehicle again had to be towed to a repair shop.this time i was told that a wire was burnt and it caused the fuel pump to short and blew the fuse.i have not been told why the wire burnt and would like to know if you have had this problem reported with other surburbans.

I have a 2001 chevy suburban k2500, it takes me 45 minutes to fill up the gas tank, i believe the air does not escape from the gas tank and it causes it to overflow when filling and may cause fire if unattended since when you press the gas pump to pump faster it overflows and leaks on the exhaust pipe and could cause fire, also gasoline might do harm to environment while overflowing, so, please help, its winter here where we live and 45 minutes at the gas pump is really something, thank you-valentin
Dt:there isrecall # 05v155000 for the fuel module reservoir assemblywherethe wire breaks the seal in the gas tank. Contacted the dealer. They took the gas tank off and that the fuel module was bad. The wire got warm and caused a hole in the connector, and fuel vapors leaked out, andengine light appeared on august 25, 2005 . That waswhy i the consumer took the vehicleto dealer.when the gas got low the gas gauge would go all the way toandback to the actual amount of gas that was in it.
Consumer smelledgas in and outside of vehicle with bubbling sounds fromfuel tank.whenconsumeropened fuel tank a 12 foot stream of fuel sprayed out oftank.dealer has been contacted, and could notduplicate problem.please provide further information.
Consumer states the fuel pump module (connector) was leaking fuel due to a fuel pump wire that had melted inside the fuel tank. Gm replaced the 10-amp fuse with a 20-amp fuse. This caused a fuel leak. Consumer wondered why the fuse didn't blow to prevent leakage. Gm did offer a 45/55 split but the consumer wouldn't be informed of the findings after an investigation was completed. *ph
Dt: the contactnoticed a very strong smell in garage that would almost burn theeyes, and leavea stain on the floor. He contacted the dealership, but since the vehicle was out of warranty they would not offer any assistance. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determinedthat the main plastic fuel tankcracked. There is a hose that goes between the two tanks it was not cracked at the hose, but it was cracked at the top of the plastic tank. The main tank was replaced atcontact's expense. Thevehiclewas never in an accident, andnever was used as an off road vehicle. Also, the manufacturer was contacted , and they provided the contactwith a case number and explained to him there was nothing they could do about it. This was always noticed after the vehicle was filled up. Updated 1/11/2006 - the consumer filed a complaint with the manufacturer.
Recall repair done on chevy suburban 2001 which involved taking down the fuel tank (new wiring harness installed).has serious concern now, that the car is now less safer due the fuel tank mounting and dismounting.in fact my fuel gauge started not working after this and now they have take down the fuel tank again.is there any evidence that this type of service work may actually cause further safety issues which may involve a vehicle fire ? is this really the proper way to correct a safety issue which has already created a recall ?
While driving noticed a fuel leak.
Consumer can hear truck percolating. Also, cansmell gas coming fromvehicle, and it goes all throughhouse.
No summary listed for abov evehicle.
Gas tank leak as described in previous reported claims.
When filling vehicle with fuel, fuel blew back out on consumer's hand.dealerhas been notified.dealer was unable toduplicateproblem.please provide further information.
Fuel tank three valve cap prongs were cracked andcaused the fuel to leak out.they werelocated on top offuel tank/ under, and torear ofdriver's seat. Had taken vehicle to dealership, and mechanic replaced valve cap.
Gasoline leaked from tank upon filling.i had vehicle serviced and dealer found that insulation had melted on wires on fuel pump internal to fuel tank.was advised to keep at least 1/4 full to prevent the problem.both the leak and melted wires imply a safety problem.
2001 chevrolet suburban would not start after sitting approximately three hours after driving it a distance of approximately one mile.vehicle had to be towed to local chevrolet dealership after hours so the vehicle was not looked at for about two days.when i call ed the service writer to inquire about the vehicle he stated it was still parked outside.when i asked what the problem may be he stated, "probably the fuel pump." the vehicle had not even been looked at by a mechanic when the initial diagnosis was made.it turned out to be a very expensive repair for a fuel pump replacement.
Fuel pump wires overheat when the weather is warm. As a result the vehicle becomes inoperative.
While driving on the interstate at 70 mph, the car suddenly died.luckily we were going down a hill and no other cars nearby, so we coasted to the shoulder.car would not crank - it was completely dead.it was towed to dealership.they said a fuse was blown which caused the problem.they did not know why the fuse was blown.they gave us several extra fuses in case it happened again.we were on our way home from vacation, so we took the extra fuses and finished the trip home.a couple days later the car would not crank.we took it to the local dealer, who found that the fuel pump was causing the fuse to blow.we had to pay over $800 to replace the fuel pump.we are hoping that gm will re-imburse us, since this sounds similar to the recall.they say that even though we've had to pay for the problem, we cannot file any paperwork until november.so it'll be at least until then before we get any money back, if at all.in the meantime, it sounds like the new fuel pump is susceptible to the same problem.
Significant fuel leak from gas tank of 2001 chevrolet suburban.will leak at approx. 1/2 gal per hour.will leak when running at idle, running at speed, and stopped, engine off.please take note - the vehicle would still run with the fuel tank leaking significantly.no error message was displayed in the vehicle message display.no fire occurred, but with close proximity to exhaust system, risk for fire would appear to be extreme.delivered vehicle to dealer to inspect.upon pressure test, dealer found leak at top of tank in pass-through connector.leak was occurring because wire inside tank (fuel pump lead) melted, and created hole in pass through connector.entire internal tank fuel pump and fuel level sender assembly replaced.dealer technician reported he had seen this before, but usually the vehicle would not run, or a check engine light would be displayed.this vehicle would run, and did not display any message in the vehicle message display. Dealer would not acknowledge a recall in their systems or support a safety issue search.gm would not acknowledge any recall or safety issue concern during calls placed on 5-13-2005.gm service request was submitted by owner via phone - open service requst #1-335303835.cost to repair was $996.38us, all paid by owner.owner (me) has all receipts and defective parts.failed wire lead on internal pump is visibly melted.cannot confirm replacement part (gm # 25315983) is not also defective, and may also lead to reoccurence of the same problem - melted wire, gas leak, potential fire or explosion.
Per the dealer repairman the fuel pump/assembly above fuel tank "cracked" causing large loss of fuel directly under the vehicle.the car without warning would not start after being filled with gasoline.after several attempts to get the engine to turn over, i stepped out of the vehicle into a large fuel spill.i quickly removed 4 small children from their car seats and evacuated the vehicle.the fire department had to come to secure the area and prevent ignition of the fuel spill.this is a serious defect that needs to be addressedwhichluckily did not cause harm/loss of life.
I had my chev. Suburban 1500, yr. 2001 in for the 60,000 mi. Service and a new fuel filter was replaced according to the needs. I had problems right away with fuel being below 1/4 tank. It was stalling out. No low on fuel light came on, but the service engine soon light did. That was at 1/8 of a tank. It felt like i was going to run out of gas.i reported it immediately to the oil can henrey's were the service was preformed. They manager gave me a fuel additive.didn't work.if i got to 1/4 tank it would do the same thing.it was recommended to me that i have a diagnostic check at the dealer.they replaced the filter and siad it was a defect.the problem is still present, it has been 7 months, 2 fuel filters, 2 sensors, and i still have a problem.i have to take it back again, and i took in the recall sheet that is still under investigation on my make and model.and also the last time i was not able to fill my whole tank. It would only take about 18 gal. And shut off. All the symptoms are what isdiscribed in your investigation. Please contact me.
Fuel gauge was defective.when the tank was full it registered half, andwhen it was half it registered empty. . consumer ran out of gas twice.manufacturer stated no complaints or recalls on this matter were found.

I replaced the gas tank on my 2001 chevrolet suburban on 2 jan because i had detected a gas smell.my independent mechanic discovered a leak in the tank because it had split at the midpoint in the side of the tank.when i contacted chevrolet, that said that they did not want to see the tank because an independent mechanic replaced it instead of a chevrolet service facility.my reason for writing is that the gas tank split for no apparent reason.since nothing struck the tank to cause the split, i believe that this is unusual and worthy of note.the original tank was defective, in my opinion.
Fuel leaked from the tank after the consumer put gas into the vehicle.the differential broke which caused a grinding noise.the vehicle was taken in for service and found that the elevtrical wires around the neck of the tank were melted and the tank had to be replaced.consumer stated that the short in the electrical lines could have cause a fire.on a road trip the vehicles right rear breakstarted grinding into the pads. *tc
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the engine failed to start. The contact had to depress the accelerator pedal and turn the key in order to start the engine. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic for inspection and they stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 60,000.
The bolts that hold the exhaust manifolds down are breaking off at the heads and causing exhaust leaks.which are in turn causing my catalytic converters fail prematurely.i hope gm fixes this massive problem with there ls v8 engines!
Fuel pump may falter or fail; fuel pump relay was non-functional, replaced it; other fuses passed testing with meter; vehicle started, would not run more than a few minutes. New fuel filter. Guy at service station banged on gas tank, and it would start then run great for a minute, then will not restart. Ordering a replacement fuel pump. Bought this vehicle in 2005 about the time of gm recall 05027. In doing online trouble-shooting today, i discovered the 2001 gm recall 05027. Have had this problem several times. Fuel filter was last changed in july 2009. Complete failure when in motion, backing out of service station onto main street (us 64 bus), just inches from lane of travel (6.14.19).what could be worse than fuel pump failure at a busy intersection during lunch hour? grateful it didn't catch fire, or get hit. As the service attendant tried to restart it, over and over, the relay in the ecu may have failed at that time. In the interim, my husband died.i replaced relay/fuses today 9/14/19, and vehicle started, but would not stay running. Another mechanic banged on fuel tank, it ran for a while, so he advised replacing pump, which is not rocket science after viewing youtube how-to videos. With the pump failing sporadically, and responding to the vibration of being banged, it seems likefaulty wiring or connection problem, or that something is loose or not fully seated anymore. Lots of folks say the chevy 1500 is widely known for fuel supply problems. Gas gauge has not been accurate ever. When full, it may show empty when turning or hitting a slight bump in the road. (track by computing mpg and mileage, to determine range). In short distances, it swings full-> empty->full. Wiring diagram shows tiny fuse labeled prime, none there.abs indicator lights up because sensor cable at right front tire may fail on left turn, or hard right turn, yet brakes are fine.
Dt:consumer owns 2001 chevrolet suburban. Two of the electrical motors had gone out on the power windows, two separate windows. Shetook vehicle a garage t to have window motors replaced , and the mechanic called the dealer for parts, and was told that the motor was already on back order, she said that this showedher that she was not the only one having this problem. Also, had aproblem with electrical locks, they failed. The driver's door will open automatically but the other doors have to be opened manually. The front doors had exterior locks , and onecould unlockthem from the outside.but, the rear doors did not have exterior locks.she had to reachthem from the front to manually unlock the rear doors to get in from the outside.
The vehicle failed state inspection due to the emergency brake being inoperative.took vehicle to dealer who diagnosed a manufacturer's design flaw with the emergency brake.the design of the emergency brake placed it in contact with the rotors which caused premature wear.
Parking brake does not hold when depressed.pedal goes completely to the floor.removed rear rotor and pads were very thin with only 48000 miles, and the only time the brake is used is during inspection one time each year.there are numerous reports on this problem and it is puzzling that chevrolet does not fix this problem.
Parking brakefailed.
The emergency parking brake experienced premature wear.*nlm
Emergency brake failed, and vehicle didn't passthe local inspectionin texas. Dealer stated , "we were aware of the problem but we didnt know how to fix it."
Complaint regarding manufacturing defect- parking brake.*mr(nar)
The parking brake on our 2001 suburban has failed for the 3rd time in 4 years.from discussions with repair shops and other suburban owners, it is apparent that gm has a real design flaw in the parking brake mechanism for the 2000 plus suburbans. We live in a very hilly part of the state of texas and a good parking break would normally be considered essential.i hope that the nhtsa opens an investigation and gets this bad design recalled before one of these large suv's accidentally breaks loose when parked on a hill and kills some child.
Dt:consumer states that his 2001 chevrolet suburban parking brake has never worked in his vehicle.he has taken vehicle to the dealer and they have told him it's a faulty design and there's nothing they can do about it.the transmission won't stay in park due to the problem.
Parking brake on 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500 does not hold. This is a known problem on chevrolet silverado pickups which have the same type parking brake.i am having to pay to have the brake repaired in order to pass state inspection. The design and functionality of the parking brake is apparently a known problem.
Bought 2001 suburban new. Never used emergency brake, but brake has failed and worn into my rotor to a point that both rotors now need replacing. This seems to be a very common problem and have found a number of complaints throughout the internet. Also have a family member that works for gm as a mechanic and says they have a defective system. He does these jobs all the time.
Parking brake on 2001 chevrolet suburban won't hold.when pedal is depressed to the floor, the vehicle can still roll.
Consumer stated that vehicle would not release the parking brake when driving. Dealer notified.
Consumer stated the parking brake failed to hold. Thedealer had been contacted. Several other suburbans had failed inspection because of poor parking brakes.
Consumer was told that because of normal driving emergency brake wore out, even if the emergency brake was never being used. Consumer decided to calldealer because he felt that it was a safety factor, knowing that the emergency brake was not effective.
Consumer noticed failure of the emergency brake retainer clip. Dealer has been notified, please provide further information.*mr
Went to get my 2001 chevy suburban inspected and it failed because the emergency brake would not hold.the inspector said this is a extremely common problem in these vehicles and if he got 100 suburbans in to be inspected 90 would fail because of this problem.
Parking brake failure.appears parking brake system defective which has caused brake to be inoperable and triggered a failed state inspection on 4/7/06.this will have to be fixed in the next 15 days in order to obtain inspection.have been told the defect in the parking brake system will necessitate another repair at the 15k mark from the date of original repair, as the system eats the brake shoes due to the defect.this problem is in no way related to use of the parking brake.
2001 chevrolet suburban, parking brake (emergency brake) has never worked.i thought this was a simple adjustment and since this vehicle is normally driven only on long trips--rather than daily use i was not too concerned.did not bother to report to dealer because too much hassle over other defects under warranty.recently consulted my mechanic friend (former gm) and have found this is a significant manufacturing flaw--wrong parts installed at date of manufacturer.a service bulletin was issued to dealers on this problem.because the vehicle now is four years old and has approximately 58000 miles the dealer will not address the problem without significant expenditure on my part.i believe this is a problem that should be addressed at the manufacturers expense.i have talked to other owners of similar vehicles experiencing the same problem.time and mileage should not discharge the manufacture from this safety issue.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's parking brake was not working.the contact never used the parking brake.the vehicle was inspected by the dealership, who informed the contact that the parking brake would go bad if it was never used. Updated 9/13/2006 -the vehicle failed state inspection because the parking brake did not work.
The emergency brake is not hold properly while the vehicle was parked. The dealer stated that nothing could be done vehiclewas out of warranty.
On 2/12/04,i took my 2001 chevy suburban in to the dealer because the emergency/parking brake did not work.being the first time i tried to use it and it did not work, i assumed it would be a warranty repair.the dealer said no, this is common and a normal wear and tear adjustment.i said i have never used it, how can it be!not being safe w/out a emergency parking brake, i had to pay!after their "adjustment" the brakes or something squealed.upon returning to the dealer, i asked them to check their adjustment and mentioned where i had seen on the nhtsa site about parking brakes wearing all the time.they adjusted again to spec and when i got it back, brakes still did not hold the vehicle well - it would never have held on a hill!i took it back again to the chevy dealer on 7/13/04 and asked them to check it again, and they said it was to spec and it was not an emergency brake, just a parking brake.i told them it would never hold a vehicle this size and weight on a hill!on 10/25/04, the vehicle was making a grinding/scraping sound when moving, so i took it to a tire store and they determined that the parking brakes were totally worn out and needed to be replaced ($160). I think there is a engineering design defect with this system in these vehicles.first the brakes do not appear to hold the vehicle well and second the way they are designed they fail without ever using them!you don't know they don't work until it's too late!very dangerous!!!please look into this asap - i think brake failure is a very dangerous problem.
I recently tokk my 2001 chev suburban to the dealership for misc repairs.one of which was that the emergency/parking brake no longer held the vehicle at all.either in forward or reverse.one day i went to use it and it didn't work at all.how long had it been this way?i rarely, if ever, use the parking brake so i assumed it was broken and would be covered under warranty since the vehicle is only 2.5 years old and only has 18,900 mi.the diagnosis was that the parking brake needed "adjustment" and this was a normal wear condition and would cost me $65.i felt i had no choice to not have my brakes work, so i complied.it was suggested by the service advisor to use it more often and that would keep it in adjustment?i feel there is something wrong with this brake or vehicle design, especially after reading others complaints on this website.i had my previous vehicle for 11 years and 90k miles and never had an issue with a parking brake.this is not something that you can afford to go to use and find out it doesn't work!based on the number of complaints i urge you to look into this dangerous situation - not to mention costly to the consumer for no reason at all.
Parking brake not holding-- goes all the way to the floor.*nlm
Parking brake failure - 2001 chevrolet suburban during state inspection (texas)apparent cause of parking brake failure is due to misalignment of parking brake shoe.chevrolet has redesigned their the retaining clip which holds the parking brake shoe in place.the redesigned clip does not allow the parking brake shoe to float or move inside the rotor of the rear parking brake assembly.in this case there was abnormal wear to the inside of the parking brake rotor on the driver's side as well as abnormal wear on the parking brake shoe.there was no noticeable wear on the passenger's side rear brake rotor of parking brake shoe.chevrolet has issued a technical bulletin to its dealers which addresses the parking brake shoe coming into contact with the rotor when the parking brake is not engaged or set.the fix is the redesigned clip which replaces the old clip.in our case, we do not use the parking brake on a regular basis (if at all) and the problem was found during a normal routine state inspection (texas) - as it failed to pass the test due to the parking brake not holding.
Consumer took vehicleto have a state inspection done and found that the parking brake was not holding the vehicle. It was taken to the chevrolet dealer, and they found that the parking brake shoes were wornout, and both brake rotors needed to be replaced.
Multiple locations will not inspect vehicle due to faulty emergency brake design.dealership will not cover and manufacturer will not warranty.$600dealership repair or $400 at local repair facility.
The parking brake was inoperable.the dealer would not fix because the brake was not under warranty.the brake shoes were replaced.the parking brake had never been used, yet the parking shoes were worn out.the lower left cowl cover was broken and was being held together by putty. *sc
Parking brake fails to hold.
My parking brake has been defective since i purchased it. I did not know this until the first inspection. It did not pass and i had to pay $150.00 to "fix" it. Every year after that is has failed. I have called my dealer with the problem but have not had any luck. I sure hope someone does not die because of this problem.
2001 chevrolet suburban - parking brake has failed.we did not realize failure until pointed out to us by mechanic; thought it normal that the brake goes to the floor.
I asked huffines chevrolet [plano, tx] to check my 2001 chevrolet suburban as the parking brake was not holding. The pedal would depress all the way to the floor and the vehicle would roll. Their service department found that the emergency parking brake had caused premature wear on the brake pads and rotors. The dealer indicated that this was the result of the body style change in 2000. The new design of the emergency brake placed it in contact with the rotors which causes premature wear.this is not a repair that is covered under the 36 month/36,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. Despite that, the dealer replaced the pads and rotors at no charge. I am still not clear as to why, but the dealer told me that i would have incurred the expense of the repair if the vehicle has over 30,000 miles. I'm led to believe that this is an item, that due to the number of reported occurrences, that gm is repairing under warranty up to 30,000 miles. I consider myself fortunate in that i brought my vehicle to them at 29,700 miles. As a side note, i will point out that when this vehicle was purchased new from huffines chevrolet, the parking pedal would depress all the way to the floor. My wife and i both found that to be odd. We always use the parking brake and we never had one operate in that fashion. But the dealer said that was normal and that brake was holding the vehicle.the existence of a potential emergency brake mechanism defect is a very serious and dangerous case for all owners of the 2000-2004 chevrolet suburban. Many households own and operate these vehicles and such a defect puts our wives and children at risk. I recommend, with extreme prejudice, that nhtsa conduct an investigation into this issue.
I took my 2001 suburban for the annual inspection.the shop called to say it did not pass due to the parking brake not holding.there is never a need to use the parking brake in houston, therefore i have never used it.there are 4 people in my office that have had the exact problem and had to pay to repair this problem because it is considered normal wear.i called chevrolet zone to report this, but of course they claim to know nothing about any problems with the emergency brake.the shop removed the tires and found that the brake pads were ripped to shreads and the rotor was so badly etched that it had to be replaced.total cost to repair the problem on a vehicle with 37,000 miles was 350.00 per side.please investigate this problem so hopefully chevrolet will have to announce the clear defect in the new suburban/tahoe design.the mechanic told me he sees this problem on a regular basis. *mr
I am concerned there is a chevrolet manufacturing defect, if what the lone star chevrolet representative told me is correct and an unused emergency brake in a 2001 suburban can destroy itself at any time making the vehicle unsafe to drive.on 3/10/2003 i took the vehicle to lone star chevrolet for its 50k mile routine maintenance.nothing was wrong with the vehicle, except for asquealing from the right side when the breaks were applied.i asked them to check the brakes.on their first call, the representative said the mechanic found the front brake rotors to be glazed over, causing the noise.i told them to fix it, a standard wear repair item.later, the representative called again to say the mechanic found the emergency brakes were broken, not holding against the drum, which caused, the car to be unsafe to the point it would not pass inspection.when i asked how that could be since i had not experienced any difficulty in stopping vehicle, he said the emergency brake was a totally separate system from the regular brakes.i pointed out several facts to him:1)i purchased the car new and have been the only person to drive the car except when it was in their shop for repairs. 2)i have never (not once) activated the emergency brake on the vehicle and i always check to make certain its not on when its returned from repairs.3)the car passed its annual inspection during 12/2002 with the inspection done by their facility.there was no mention about the emergency brake not working then.in light of these issues, i asked the representative to explain how a part that has never been activated got a drum that is so badly scored and worn that it no longer works and why the problem wasn't noticed during december.he then said normal road vibrations can cause the parts to slip out of alignment causing the damage at any time, and it was not damaged during december.he went so far as to say that their mechanics saw this problem all the time. *nlm
I took my 2001 suburban to have a state inspection done and found that the parking brake was not holding.i then took the vehicle to the chevrolet dealer and they found that the parking brake shoes were worn all the waydown and both rotors needed replacement because they were rusted inside and the parking bake shoes would not hold.i only have 37000 miles on the vehicle.the dealer was only willing to split the cost of the rotors and the installation of the rotors even though the parking bake wore out after only 37000 miles or even less.the dealer reported that the parking brake should last longer than 37000 miles.i am the only person who drives this vehicle and the parking brake was never left on while driving.there is a defect on the engineering of the parking brake system that it wears out this fast with only being used when the vehicle is parked.
I have a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1/2 ton with 39,000 miles on it.the emergency (parking) brake is defective.it will not hold the vehicle.i have never used my emergency brake, and was told by various repair people that it was a known defect and a recall should be ordered.this is a safety issue, as i am sure there are many unknowing owners with an unusable emergency brake.there was a service bulletin issued: # 02-05-26-002a.
Vehicle delivered with 305 miles. Noticed parking brake would intermittently not hold vehicle when parked on slight incline after about 1000 miles. Initially, parking brake pedal had a different feel to the last 2 to 3 inches of pedal travel, as if it were 'giving way' due to excessive pressure on pedal. However, whether the pedal was pushed all the way to floor or stopped before it had that strange 'give way' feel did not seem to affect the failure of the parking brake to hold vehicle when applied.eventually, after about 10000 miles, the strange 'give way' feeling ceased.also noticed that over time the parking brake would fail to hold the vehicle more often than not, and around 14000 miles, quit altogether.i took the vehicle to dealer and was adviced this problem was common with the new suburban body style (2000).service advisor said would have to disassemble parking brake unit to see if pads needed adjustment or replacement and more than likely would be needing replacement and thus not covered by warranty. I told him this was happening from the beginning and he said the pads for the parking brake on the new body styles were very small and wore out very quickly especially if used on an incline or driven with parking brakes applied.this being the case, it did not seem cost effective to bother replacing the pads as he was going to charge me about $150. Is this a design defect or an intentional scheme to rip customers off with frequent brake pad changes?
Vehicle with 25,300 miles failed the annual virginia state inspection due to failure of the parking brake to hold. The dealer statedrust had formed on the rotors and they had to be replaced even though they and the brake linings were not worn out. The dealer service advisor stated the design had been changed on later models, but there was no recall for this defect and i would have to pay $980.00 to replace rotors, pads and park brake linings. I called gm's chevrolet division customer service and the customer service rep said she would investigate and call me back in a few days.i picked up the truck and paid $775.71 the dealer having "given me a break on the labor"nine days later, the gm rep called to tell me there was nothing they could do as the "dealer diagnosed the problem as being due to the age and mileage of the vehicle"(4 years and 25,300 miles) and she was closing the file indicating i was dissatisfied with the results. I pointed out to her the fact that the nhtsa web page has numerous complaints about parking brakes on chevy suburbans. She was not moved and restated her intent to close the file.i immediately called the dealer service advisor who stated that vehicle age and mileage was not the cause but. The problem was a durability issue with the parking brake system on chevy trucks.he refused to contact the gm service rep on my behalf so, i left a message on her voice mail for her to contact him to discuss the issue. I then filed this complaint.
Consumer stated had problems with the emergency brake. Also stated that vehicle would not pass the inspection on his state. Dealer and manufacture was contacted and also said that since their was no recall consumer will have to pay for it. Tsdealer found park brake shoes worn to metal.dealer replaced park brake shoes and left rear rotor.

Parking brake did not disengage on drivers side, removal of wheel and disc showed actuating mechanism not fully retracted, fixed by pushingactuating lever towards wheel to "rest lever". Extremely poor design.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban.when the contact started the vehicle, the light that indicates the parking brake is activated was not illuminated.the gear was shifted into drive and the vehicle began to drift while the emergency brake was still applied.the contact turned off the engine.prior to the failure, the contact heard the sound of metal coming from the rear of the vehicle whenever the brakes were applied.the parking brake was replaced by a repair shop; however, the failure continued.the failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 90,000.
While in park, the vehicle began to roll backwards into an embankment.will be taking vehicle to dealership to have mechanic determine cause of the rollback. Please provide additional information.
Re; problems with gm about defective transmission on 2001 chev suburban.the transmission locking mechanism in the transmission failed which resulted in an accident.
I just fix my head gasket from leaking 2 weeks later the transmission gave out a week later the sensor gave out then the other sensor knock sensor 2 thenthe sensor pump gave out too with in6 months and cost me about 4000 after tax chevy.
During routine driving, the vehicle's wheels locked up and stopped forward progress.the vehicle was only going20+- mph at the time.the transmission had failed.the vehicle was able to move in reverse but no other gear.i had noticed some slipping of the transmission but was not sure if that was in fact slipping.the transmission was changed at my local dealership.
When the vehicle has warmed up and i am driving between 10 and 30 mph transmission seems to slip between 1st and 2nd gears. While slowing down to make a turn transmission doesn't know what to do. It can't decide to stay in the present gear or shift down to accomadate the lower speed. Therefore, it takes about 10 seconds for the transmission to finally find a gear so i can proceed. Also, when coming to a stop, the transmission takes about 10-15 seconds to shift into 1st, if i want to go immediately after stopping, the transmission is still trying to downshift and the engine races until the transmission finally catches up. Again, the dealer found "no problem" with the vehicle/transmission.
While driving the transmission failed.the vehicle was towed. The cost for a the transmission was $2,576.18. *tc
Transmission on a 2001 chevy suburban with 76000 miles failed while on expressway almost caused an accident.
While driving 20 mph vehicle stopped in motion with engine still running. Vehicle operated in reverse, but not in drive. Dealer was not notified.
Transmission disengaged at 80 mph, would not reengae until traction control was inactivated.
Please help me .nlm
I would like to request your agency to conduct a thorough investigation about a defective parking pawl on a 2001 chevy suburban, this parking pawl mechanism supposed to lock the transmission gear to prevent a vehicle to roll or moved while on park position, especially on a rolling hills or sloped parking lot.i am sharing this information for the safety of the general public and consumers who owned a 2001 chevy suburban, because the vehicle has the tendency to moved whileon parked position on a rolling hills or sloped parking lot. This problem cannot be detected easily by an average person. The vehicle need to be inspected at the dealershipservice shop and have it check for a sign of a worn out of the parking pawl mechanism.this information will benefit current owners of 2001 chevy suburban that gm is notmore than willing to pay any out of pocket expenses will incurred in case of an accident. Unless someone will get seriously injured as case may be.this input was on based on the accident happened on my 2001 chevy suburban last june 20,2002. The body repair cost of my 2001 chevy suburban was $4000 plus.
Catastrophic failure of transmission; lost all forward gears on nj turnpike after slowing down for stopped traffic. Transmission had to be completely rebuilt. Only 16,000 miles on vehicle; 1 yr 11 months old.
Transmission failures in 1999 through 2002 chevrolet tahoe's, suburbans, and k1500 trucks. I have owned several chevrolet vehicles. In my small circle of acquaintances, i have experienced what i believe to be too many transmission failures by the afore mentioned vehicles. My brother in law just had to have his k1500 transmission changed out. My brothers son had to have his 2001 k1500 transmission changed out at 60000 miles. My brother has had two transmissions changed out in his 2002 tahoe. And finally, today january 26, 2006, my wifes transmission in her 2001 suburban with only 78000, never used to tow anything but a lawn mower trailer, just went out with several school kids on board on a very busy road with no shoulders. This could have turned into a bad situation. What is the deal?
Transmission failure... Replaced transmission at 32000 miles and again at 61000 miles.
Performed a "kick down" to pass dump truck on highway. After passing the truck and back in my lane of travel the engine over revs to 5000+ rpms and car halts to a stop in front of the dump truck that i just passed, forcing him to swerve and stand on its brakes to avoid rear-ending me. The car now has only two functioning gears, 1st and 2nd. Transmission downshifts into first when trying to shift to 3rd. Car now has 81000 miles, my transmission shop says that my 3rd and 4th gear clutches are gone!!?? and a $1,500+ rebuild is necessary. The shop says its surprised that this happens to a low mileage truck like this. And so am i.
Purchased 2001 chevrolet suburban at the end of august, drove it for 1600 miles and the transmission went out.according to the mechanic, the transmission completely came apart inside.this bothered me because of the position of the transmission and my children in the vehicle, and the possibility of shrapnel coming out of the transmission.this, of course, did not happen but the dealership is refusing to take any responsibility and i have not heard from general motors.the vehicle is less than three years old and has 48000 miles on it.
Consumer stated every 43,000 miles transmission failed. As a result, consumer had to replace the part.
My 2001 chevrolet suburban got in an accident due to parking pawl failure while parked on a sloped surface. Parking pawl is a transmission gear safety locking mechanism that will prevent a vehicle from moving while in park position. I contacted general motors product allegation department to inform about this seriousdefect. General motors assigned an investigator to gather details and informationthe investigator submitted all the information and details of the accident to a general motors engineers who will review the cause of the failure of the parking pawl. Initial finding by gm authorized service repair shop, the cause of the failure was the premature wearing of the parking pawl mechanism. From a design standpoint this parking pawl mechanism by no means should not be subjected to any premature wearing. Otherwise, this is a serious and dangerous design error.after several months of review and investigations, gm said they found that it was material defect. The big question now is how many 2001 chevy suburban was affected by this material defect. Also, gm representative was reluctant to provide me a copy of the investigation resultsconducted by their design engineers. The parking pawl mechanism failure cannot be detected easily by an average person, unless a thorough investigation will be conducted or an accident will occurred. Also, my 2001 chevrolet suburban was discovered by gm authorized service shop that the emergency parking brake was having a premature wearing on the brake pads.this really a very serious and dangerous case for all 2001 chevrolet suburban forhaving a potential emergency brake pad and parking pawl mechanism defect.i am highly suggesting this office to conduct an investigation to avoid a similar fate with firestone case. Because i suspect gm is covering up this defect to avoid massive recalls on all 2001 chevrolet suburban.
While exiting the vehicle gear shift locked up. The vehicle would only go into reverse.tookvehicle to dealer, and dealer stated that a piece of metal got loose an tore up the transmission.
The vehicle is in awd or 4-wheel drive - step on the gas after being stopped, the transmission sounds as if it is about to fall off. When in 4-wheel drive the vehicle is difficult to turn.also, rear heater takes 30 minutes to heat up, and then only blows luke warm air when the gas pedal is depressed. Manufacurer states by design.
Our 4 year old child was able to put our 2001 chevy suburban in gear without starting the car or pressing his foot on the brake.the car starting rolling down the hill.fortunately my wife was able to jump in the window and press the brake to stop the car.we were very lucky that none of the children in the area were hurt and that no property was damaged other than a small piece of fence.apparently with the key in the ignition and in the first "accessory" position you are able to take the car out of park without depressing the brake pedal.i tried this on several other chevy models that have the gear shift on the column and you are able to do the same thing.i called chevy and the dealer and they both said that this should not happen and to bring it in for repair.the dealer even went to the lot and did what i described on a 2006 suburban and agreed that it did happen when he did it.if this in fact the way the car is manufactured it would be nice if they acknowledged that fact and put it in the owners manual.updated 12/12/2007 the consumer stated the manufacturer is being phased out, however would like to be notified if the older owners would be notified. Updated 12/12/07
Vehicle was in park with engine running. Driver left vehicle, and went around to passengers side. Vehicle started rolling backwards. While trying to get inside vehicle, owner's leg was ran over by vehicle and was broken in 3 places.
I see where chevrolet is recalling the surburban for a defective driveshaft. I have an early 2001 model and my driveshaft did cracked.i was stuck in san diego for two days for the dealer to get the new part.i was told by the service manager that this was very rare, thus hard to find the part. The mechanic told me that they could not find the part because this was so common and the other dealerships did not want to give up the part.first i am mad that i was lied to by the service manager, but i also wonder if the drive shaft probem is prevelent in the 2001 suburban model as well.i would be interested in your research.
Consumer states while driving at highway speed the transmission slipped causing the vehicle to stall. Ts
The passenger side second seat seat belt will not retract.
The passenger seat belt locked up so tight, the passenger was unable to move.the seat belt did not give any room for moving comfortably.
Nar 1/29/2003. Within the first 3 months of owing the vehicle, the safety belt on the rear passenger 3rd seat malfunctioned. The seat belt can't be pulled away from the seat back to seure it and any passengers. Gm would not cover the seat belt under warranty, they stated that the mileage limit on the warranty had expired.
*sc
Driver's seat belt squeaks randomly, causing a major distraction while driving until i figured out it was my movements, causing the noise.whenever i get the chance to take it in for service, it stops for weeks at a time.dealer stated he would have to keep truck and check it out.if a problem, then he would order parts and i could bring it in again to have it fixed.i cannot leave it for days, so i have not gone back in.
Driver and passenger side seat belts were inoperative and locked. When brakes were appliedthe seat belts failed.
Seat belts insecond row of seats directly behinddriver, andcenter seating positionseat belts are too long, which do not secure any child safety seat in either seating position.consumer has contacteddealer. Consumer noted that seat belts needed to be shortened in order to securechild seat. Please provide any further details.
The front passenager seatbelt locks up and won't allow the person to move about freely, replace retractor latch.
The front passenger seatbelt will lock up for no apparent reason while driving on any road surface, at any speed and all conditions preventing the person from moving freely about in the seat. The seatbelt must be unbuckled, let retract all the way back into the seat, then pulled out and buckled. The situation could happen as often as 5 minutes or one hour. The danger is having to undo the seatbelt while the vehicle is in motion. The dealer replaced it twice and the problem still exists. They said it is gm's problem and there is no fix at this time. I can't believe something can't be done, this is a serious safety situation. I called chevy and was tol there is nothing they can do, the new style seatbelt that is in the top of the seat has a design problem.
Length of seat belt stem with latch will not allow child safety seats to be secured tightly in center positions.belt engage plate at a 90 degree angle and does not keep the belt from loosening. Belt seems to tighten but when seat is pulled becomes loose. Could cause person to believe seat is secure when it is not.
2001 chevrolet suburban front passenger seatbelt frequntly locks up and will not extend enough to secure a person.seat belt often locks up when passenger is belted in and passenger cannot move.
Right front passenger seat belt will pin the occupant in the seat so hard that you can not move.the owner was informed that this is a design feature to assist with restraining child safety seats.no one will ride in the right front seat due to the tightening of the shoulder belt.please describe details.mr
Passenger's side seat belt will startretracting while your driving without putting foot onbrake.it feels like the seatbelt is sucking passenger into the seat.consumer has contacteddealer, andthey replaced seatbelt.consumer is still having the problem.
Seatbelt retractor, rear door seal.
Driver's seat belt will not pull out.has been replaced 3 times. Passenger front seatbelt will not pull out, replaced 4 times.
Rt & lt front seat belt retractors pin passengers to seat for no apparent reason.the only way to get out, is to release the seat belt.when driver or passenger tries to move forward, seat belt restrains person and will not let them move freely in the seat.seat belt retractors have been replaced and then will be ok for a time before they start restraining passenger again.this is a safety issue for the driver who is trying to check traffic out his side window and is a nuisance for the passenger who cannot move about in the seat.this problem encourages the occupants to not wear the seat belts because of the inconvience of being pinned into the seat.all of this is in normal driving situations and not in emerengency situations.
Consumer states:shutting on and off the idle will go low and high and will itselfshut off.had work done to have it repaired, but only lasted a couple of months. Had the smell of gas. Also, seat belts on the second seats are not working properly. Can't pull the seat belts out, they are stuck inside of the wall of the vehicle.

A passenger in my vehicle went to use the seat belt in the rear seat on the drivers side and the belt which was retracted at the time came out and failed to retract after a loud noise.the seat belt is unusable.
The 2nd row right out board belt was locked in the open position and the 3rd row left out board belt was locked in the fully retracted position.
Dt: the contact stated the third row passenger side seat belt was wrapped around the child'sneck.the seat belt had to be cut to free the child.there should be a way to turn off the locking feature of the safety belt.
The third row driver side seat belt was locked.

*sc
Driver's side, second row seat does not hold any brand/style child safety seat.dealer's service center has confirmed this problem, denies any defect.
Rear seat headrest cannot be removed to allow rear seat to fold down without moving front seat forward. Moving the front seat forward to allow the rear seat to fold down to maximize cargo area creates an unsafe driving position. Owners manual depicts headrest releases that would correct this unsafe condition. These were not supplied with this vehicle. Manufacturer refused to correct design defect.

The contact owns 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while parking in a residential driveway, the brakes failed to respond. The contact stated that the abs and the brake warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 140,000.
I was applying the brakes on my 2001 chevrolet suburban, model 2500, as i turned into my driveway.the brakes failed to engage.this resulted in the vehicle running into the front of the garage.the brakes now appear to be working fine.the brakes have failed on previous occasions, but never to the point of allowing the vehicle to hit anything.according to the gm dealer, they can't fix the problem without a failure code in the computer.an independent service garage said the same.
While driving brake line ruptured due to excessive rust , vehicle towed all brake line rusted and replaced especially at secure points.
Brakes failed on a rural road but i was able to stop. Tried to push the brakes like normal, but they went all the way to the floor. I was able to stop, but with much difficulty. Took it to the shop and even though i just had new brake pads, rotors and calipers put on, i need to but new brake lines in which is over $1000. Sudden brake failure is the most dangerous thing that can happen in a car. I was lucky to be on a rural stretch of road where i was able to stop without hurting myself or other people.
Pulling up to a stop sign i attempted to brake, but the brake pedal dropped to the floor and only offered a minuscule amount of stopping power, i limped 1.5 miles home using downshifting. Brake lines are completely rusted out and apparently burst, brake fluid container under hood was completely empty. I cant even think what would have happened if i had been on the highway and they failed.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that the rear brake failed to engage while driving 40 mph. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by using the front brake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where the contact was advised that the rear brake lines were corroded and leaking brake fluid. The rear brake lines were replaced. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 165,000.
While driving through downtown bethesda, brake pedal lost pressure all the way to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance through an intersection.pulled over and noted fluid leakage under front right side of car. Drove car to dealer at 5mph; identified extensive rust through brake lines.car was not drivable.i was charged $430 for parts and $2351 for labor to 'completely rebuild brake lines manually' because gm stopped making the kit.total $2808 and nine days out of service.
Lost total brakes.service shop noted severe brake line rusting.repaired ruptured brake line.truck will be undergoing total brake line replacement due to rusting.
Abs system activated and prevented the car from slowing down.lifted my foot off the brake and tried again, it seemed to work.this has happened multiple times and abs system activates incorrectly at about 5 miles per hour.
Three times i had complete brake failure.driving two times and had just arrived at my destination third time, which was today -- surprise!!!! had to slowly drive home, yet again, with no brakes!!!!!
The abs activate without reason when i slow to a stop.the problem began infrequently and i attributed it to possible slippery surface conditions.over the past year the problem has gotten much worse and happens frequently now.research indicates that this is a known problem and the subject of a recall for "snow" states - like dc and maryland which are just across the potomac river from where i live and use my suburban.this is the second serious brake issue with this vehicle.all three brake lines have been replaced over an approximate 18 month period two years ago as a result of sudden brake failure caused by corroded brake lines.this is also a well known problem (though not one i was aware of when my brakes failed and were repaired).my research indicates that many owners have suffered from these problems. The nhtsa should further investigate these problems and expand/initiate recalls for these problems.
I was traveling around 40mph on a local road on my way from dropping the kids off at school.i tried to slow down to turn onto my street, and the suburban brakes did not respond at all.thankfully, there was nobody ahead of me, and i slowed the truck gradually.i then idled back home, without any functionality in my brakes.upon inspection, we discovered the brake lines had ruptured.all maintenance is and had been up to date.
Brake failure.metal brake line between master cylinder and caliper developed a leak due to corrosion of the metal brake line.mechanic said all metal brake lines were rusted and corroded and needed to be replaced.i understand there is an investigation underway on these faulty lines.the replacement of these lines was very expensive and was definitely a premature failure in my opinion.luckily my 20 year old son noticed the brake pedal was going to the floor while on the interstate and was able to safely exit the highway.if the line would have failed a few minutes earlier, he would have been in a crash.
While thankfully driving at a low speed, my brakes completely failed with no warning..peddle went to the floor, i was able to stop by shifting the trans down to 2nd then 1st. Mechanic said knew exactly what the problem was when i explained what happened after i stopped, pumped the brakes and brake fluid flowed from under the truck generally under where the driver sits.mechanic explained that the brake line broke and is very common, and that it just started showing up a few years ago when these "c" body trucks aged. I spoke toanother mechanic at a chevy dealership near my home and he said the same thing that it's very common and that gm now sells a kit for a compete brake-line system replacement because it has become so common. A few days before i had been driving at high speeds through the mountains on i-81 with a carload full of people, had this happened at that time it could have been catastrophic.reviewing consumer complaints on your site i see this is a reoccurring compliantand i can't believe there has not been a recall on this, as there is no more important safety system on a automobile than brakes....chevy had a recall on my 98' buick for a valve cover gasket leaking that didn't come close to this potential danger.
While braking at a stop light the abs started making a buzzing sound; it failed. The anti-lock braking system no longer be used safely.
Brake pedal went almost to floor when approaching a stop sign. Stopping ability was very poor. We were close to home, so we returned home. Upon inspection brake fluid was dripping down frame rail under drivers seat, where about five brake lines enter the abs valve unit. The brake lines were all severely rusted to the point one failed. Very bad location for the abs valve, as the brake lines follow the frame rail from the front left wheel to the abs unit and are prone to collecting road salt spray.service access is limited and awkward. This same failure occurred on my 2001 silverado pickup in august 2010.
Brakes failed while driving. Repair was brake lines rusted. Cost to replace brake system was $2500.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. While driving approximately 5 mph, the anti-lock brakes activated without warning, which made the vehicle hard to stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vin was not provided. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.
This is the second time i had to make an emergency stop because of a rusted-thru brake line.this time, i was entering a high-speed merge from one four lane highway to another and traffic was backing up.i had to apply the brakes slightly hard to slow down in time.pedal went completely to the floor with about 20% of the normal braking power available.was not going to stop in time and was forced to drive off the road to avoid rear-ending another car and onto the road shoulder at speed.barely had enough room between a major highway sign which was next to the shoulder and the cars in my lane.after repeatedly pumping the brakes (which you are taught not to do with antilock brakes), the suv finally came to a stop.without the shoulder, i would've caused a multi-car accident with injuries.i drove the car at slow speed directly to my shop who recommended replacing every brake line (every brake line was horribly rusted and brittle).custom brake lines for this repair cost $1800!! i had spent $400 on the first repair.trust me, every gm suv from these years has this problem and are going to cause accidents and people will be killed!!! this vehicle weighs 5500 pounds.
I was driving along and without warning when i went to apply my brakes the pedal went to the floor. Luckily i was just going to slow down for an exit and nobody was directly in-front of me. This could have been a more serious incident under other circumstances i got the vehicle home i investigated and found the brake lines were all rusted and one of them had burst a hole. This has the potential to be a very serious problem for someone that might be in a different driving scenario than i was.please look heavily into this problem. Thank you
While driving in traffic loss of braking due to ruptured brake line. Upon inspection all line had severe corrosion resulting in replacement of all brake lines.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. While driving at low speeds, the vehicle experienced increased stopping distance when braking. The vehicle was taken to commonwealth chevrolet (155 marston st, lawrence, ma 01841, (978) 687-3000) where it was diagnosed that the driver and passenger side wheel bearing assemblies needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 210,000.
Brake pedal went to the floor when applied in a parking lot.parked vehicle. Upon return large puddle of brake fluid under drivers side front and brake line had failed. All brake lines are very corroded on this 12 year old vehicle.in addition, fuel lines are also very corroded but have not yet failed.
Brake warning indicator light illuminated.noticed fluid low.checked and found leak in brake line due to corroded/rusted line.
Brake line ruptured causing loss of braking ability resulting in car passing through red light.
Was driving vehicle on a 2 lane public road at approximately 35 mph when pedal suddenly became soft and required many actuation to stop.vehicle was unable to stop in the anticipated distance and a collision with cross-traffic nearly occurred.on investigation, the master cylinder reservoir was empty and there was leaking from multiple brake lines from corrosion.
2001 suburban - when i applied my brakes coming to a stop sign the brake pedal went almost to the floor leaving me barely any braking power, but fortunately since i was driving at a slow speed (25 mph) i was able to stop in time. I then drove to a garage which was very close to where i was and had them put it up on the rack to look at it. They informed me that all of my brakes lines were very rusty and the one rear line had broken, i left it there and had that line replaced but after replacing that line another 2 lines broke during their testing after the first repairs. I ended up having 3 rear lines and the 2 lines to and from the master cylinder replaced (3 that broke and 2 other ones that looked really bad) at a cost of about $800, i am now going to get the remaining 2 front brake lines replaced "before" they brake on me also. These 2 lines are the hardest to replace and i was given an estimate of about $700-$800 to replace them. The one mechanic told me that a couple of years earlier his brake lines also broke on his suburban coming up to a red light and he had to drive on the birm to avoid rear ending the car in front of him. He had to replace all of his suburbans brake lines.i live in western pa and have been driving here for almost 40 years with many different vehicles during that time but i have never had brake lines rust and break like this. From what i have been reading, this must be from faulty brake line material, none of my many other vehicles have ever had this happen so chevy cannot just blame it on living in a snow/road salt area.*** i plan on going with a different manufacturer when i get my next suv.
I had just accelerated from a traffic light and two cars pulled out in front of me.they were forced to stop immediately due to a vehicle in front of them making a left turn. This forced me to make an emergency stop.i jammed on the brakes, the antilock system activated, the tires started to squeal and the brake pedal went to the floorboard.fortunately, the turning car was able to make his turn and the two cars that pull out in front of me were able to get moving and out of the way as i slowly came to a stop.i took the vehicle to the dealer and they checked the brakes out.the brake line ruptured due to rust.they had to replace all the brake line due to extreme rust.they were rustier than rusty, they were trash.upon inspection of the brake lines i noticed that only the brakes lines were extremely rusty.rest of underside was not to rusty at all. As a retired quality supervisor with over 30 years experience in the metal stamping industry i am fully convinced that something is definitly not right here.the brake system is a safety related item the lines should not rust out as these lines did.i believe the wrong material was used for these lines or a step in the rust prevention process was not performed that led to this premature rusting.brake lines should not rust out like these lines did.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. While driving approximately 60 mph, the brakes failed. The failure occurred multiple times. A local mechanic stated that the brake lines were rusted. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while drivingbehind his father's vehicle, they had approached a stop and attempted to depress the brake pedal. As his foot was on the pedal, the contact could hear the abs making an abnormal noise as the brake pedal failed to operate as needed. Due to the failure, the contact hit the back of his father's vehicle without warning. Due to the low impact of the crash, the airbags did not deploy. A police report was not filed and no injuries were reported. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and they informed him that his vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000(service brakes, hydraulic) and offered no further assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 159,000.*dt
Tight turn in driveway abs brakes locked up and there were no brakes, vehicle kept rolling almost running into garage door. If had been at intersection i would have hit car on front of me! car towed to chevrolet dealership in arlington tx
Brake lines failed twice due to rust and corrosionbecause chevy used a inferior steel product on all trucks from 1998 to 2005. The dealer repaired my 2002 avalanche for $600.00 to replace all the brakelines. However they will not repair my 2001 suburban which has the same problems. Gm needs to re-call any vehicle or at least make a repair kit and installation at a reduced rate because this vehicle is unsafe to drive. This is not due to owner error of washing the frame during winter or winter maintenance. There is new lines that are coated to resist corosion and were used to repair my avalanche.my 2001 suburban brake lines failed in motion while in traffic applying the brake petal to stop.
I have 2 2001 chevys with abs problems. Suburban and silverado pickup. When coming to a slow stop, the brakes will release like one ice, but one dry pavement
On 1/4/04, we were traveling down i95 in florida.as we approached an overpass, the traffic had come to a stop.i applied the brakes and truck slowed down, but when it reached around 10 mph, the truck kept going.i had both feet on the brake and the truck wouldn't stop.i hit the car in front of me (2 adults, 3 children) who in turn hit the car in front of them (2 adults).no one was injured.when we got home, i went to change the brakes and noticed the rotors were flaking and disintegrating.
Have a 2001 suburban ltabout 10 to 5 mph the abs will start pumping the brakes coming to a complete stopor parking in a lot with the wheel turned. Happends alot.this all happening with no rain. When it's sunny and dry.
Abs light comes on and abs system does not activate when going under 15 mph
On august 19,2004 i had to stop suddenly to avoid stopped traffic ahead on the freeway.when i hit the brakes, the anti-lock brake failure lights came on and the vehicle went suddenly to the left, where it was hit by another vehicle.the body shop tested the brake unit before repairs and found nothing.after repairs, the anti-lock warning lights came on and they would not release the vehicle without replacing the anti-lock computer.the warning lights have ocasionally come on the entire time i have owned the vehicle, and i was told by mechanics at 3 different chevrolet dealers that this is normal and not a problem.i do not believe the unit functioned correctly from the time i bought the vehicle and this was confirmed when i needed the brakes and they failed.i do not believe the kelsey-hayes brakes are reliable and i will be selling the vehicle due to my fears for the safety of myself and my children.
The electronic brake control module (ebcm) has failed on my 2001 suburban.without manipulation of the abs relay, the abs motor runs continuously. This failure leave my vehiclewithout usable anti-lock brakes (abs).this is a heavy vehicle, and i consider abs to be a critical safety system.no unusual events or conditions preceeded this failure.this vehicle has around 47,000 miles on it, and has been in service since april of 2001.repair requires a part that costs $809.28.with dealer shop time and a replacement vehicle, i expect the repair to cost almost $1000.00.
Vehicle - 2001 chevy suburban, ` 46000 miles.the component failure involved an abs (antilock brake) module and pump.a relay or some other electrical component fails and the pumps runs continuously, even without the key in the ignition.apparently this damages the pump and the whole unit must be replaced at a cost of approximatley $ 1000.it seems that this should be considered a safety defect because it involves the critical component of the braking system.these must be failing at a significant rate due to a comment from the service provider that the chevy dealer had 6 units in stock indicating fairly active inventory.i felt it was important to notify a regulatory agency regarding this matter.
Abs module failed for no reason at 37000 miles, dealer suggest replace @ cost of 1198.00 very expensive for vehicle barely out of original warranty.
The abs control module has failed on my 2001 gm suburban
On tuesday, july 19th, i had 2001 chevrolet suburban serviced at a local shop, where i received my manufacturer's suggested 60k maintainence, which included an inspection of all my primary systems, including brake. No problems were reported. On friday, july 22, 2005, i was pulling into my driveway at approximately 3:45pm.as i approached my driveway from the street, i began braking with the intention of parking in the driveway in front of my garage; however, rather than simply slowing down, my brakes instead made a strange vibration (sound and movement), and the brakes appeared to malfunction.i attempted to pump my brakes, but the "vibrations" continued and my truck seemed to "slide", even though i was now pressing on my brake pedal with all my might.my truck overshot my driveway parking spot, and crashed into my garage door.the vehicle destroyed the garage door, and there was front end damage to my bumper, hood, grill and windshield. The driver's and passenger's airbags did not deploy. Immediately afterwards, my neighbor and i inspected the brake fliud, master cylinder and visible systems, which appeared intact, and test drove the vehicle around the neighborhood, without further incidence.however, i did not drive the truck until 2 days later, when idrove on sunday, july 24th, at which time the brake "vibrations" re-occurred as i pulled into a turn lane into a supermarket parking lot. I had the truck towed to the local chevrolet dealership, and after their brake inspection, i was told that the abs wheel speed sensor needed to be replaced, which would be at no cost because it was "under warrenty", and that they also wanted to replace my rear rotors, at a cost of over $800.when i asked carol, the service rep, if the wheel speed sensor could have casued my brake malfunction, she said possibly, but no definately.when i asked if the rear rotors could have contributed, she said no. No other braking problems were reported.
Problem with antilock brakes- longer stopping distances required when brakes are applied during low speeds.no incident has occurred
Unwanted activation of the abs braking system and increased stopping distance during low speed braking applications.
Rotors rusted, pitted, corroded at only 10,000 miles; 15 months old.all turned, but were under specifications, so dealer had to replace (under warranty)
I was taking my suburban in for it's annual safety inspection and was notified by my mechanic that one of the vehicle's brake lines (exiting the abs pump) was leaking and that all five of the primary brake lines are externally rusted and near breaking.all five lines need to be replaced resulting in very costly repairs.i have six children and we regularly travel as a family.this potential failure has jeopardized my children's lives and gm should be held accountable for selling an inferior product.the vehicle has 88,000 miles and is regularly maintained.
Main brake line leak in 2001 chevrolet suburban.the line rotted out and leaked so bad that it could not be driven.had to replace entire line.
The design of the emergency brakes is very poor and according to the 3 brake shops i visited, gm has a problem with the emergency brake system on suburbans.the caliper clips on and is not "fixed" into position.what happened in my case and is quite common is that the pads slip and rub the drum without the knowledge of the owner.the only way to fix this is with new rotors and pads because the original equipment is so thin.the emergency brake is not adjustable, so the only corrective action is the above, but there is no guarantee it won't happen again according to the brake shops i spoke with.the clip gm provides to hold the pads in place didn't work the first time, so why would it work in the repair?
Brake line to left front wheel ruptured and brake pedal went to floor.after inspecting brake lines it is obvious that every metal brake line is rusted from end to end and it appears that other metal brake lines are seeping fluid as well.
On june 25th, 2003, my wife hit another car with our 2001 chevrolet suburban.the driver of the other vehicle was injured.my wife said that she pressed on the brakes and they went to the floor.our suburban slowed but didn't stop.i told her that she needed to remember how heavy the suburban was and that it was probably because the truck is so heavy and not an issue with the brakes.there was a police report filed, and my wife was ticketed. Early in march 2005 i was driving our suburban and an oncoming vehicle made a left turn in front of me.i slammed on the brakes and they went to the floor.i turned to the right and missed the other vehicle by inches.luckily i avoided hitting the other vehicle and nobody was injured.i took the suburban to a local shop and they suggested flushing and changing the brake fluid, which we did.last month (september 2005) my wife was driving the suburban and the brakes did the same thing again.we no longer feel safe driving this vehicle. We are making a 450.00 car payment on a vehicle that is not safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban.while driving 10 mph, the vehicle took a long time to stop when the brakes were applied.nhtsa campaign id number 05379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock) was referenced.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they called a regional gmc representative.gmc would not allow the dealer to repair the vehicle according to the recall because corrosion was not an issue in the contact's home state.no other dealer has inspected the vehicle and no repairs were made.the failure mileage was 65,000 and current mileage was 77,000.
Dt: the brakes at low speeds were working poorly, causingextended stopping distances. They also made a thumping sound when the abs system failed.took vehicle to the dealer and they claimed it was other things besides the abs system. Dealership wanted consumerto spend money on the brake pads/rotors, and calipers first and then on defectivewheel bearing.took vehicletomechanic, and stated that wasnot the problem he recommended to the dealer, but dealer did notwant to fix the actual problem.the vehicle had excessive amounts of rust on it (frame, calipers, rotors and non-body parts). The calipers were rusted and leaking.the rotors were warped and corroded and the brake pads were worn and needed to be replaced.
While driving at highway speeds power steering and brakes fail, resulting loss of power steering and brakes simultaneously.this is due to the failure of the power assist and power steering pump.this is the second time these components have been replaced.this was first noticed and replaced in january 2002.the second time occurred in february 2003.on 6/11/2003 the vehicle again showed indications of a problem with the brakes and steering.the brake pedal began to pulsate, and a high-pitched whine could be heard when turning the steering wheel.the vehicle also experiences problems when braking over rough road, such as rumble strips.as this is a third problem with these critical components, the safety of this vehicle is in question.the last visit to the dealer was said to be loose bolts on the power steering gear box.the power assist design is a known problem with this vehicle.i have spoken with service writers, service managers and have read other reports concerning other incidents like i experienced with this vehicle. *nlm
*scc
I was driving my suburban in town at low speed when the brake pedal went to the floor as i tried to stop the truck. Fortunately it was not a complete brake failure and i was able to stop it after a much longer than usual stopping distance. The truck was brought to a local chevrolet dealer and the advisor noted that the brake lines were very rusted and leaking fluid. All the break lines had to be replaced at a significant cost to me. I have taken good care of this truck and the brake lines should not have failed due to excessive rust as they did. Chevrolet should have treated the steel brake lines or used a different metal to make them when the vehicle was manufactured to avoid this problem and possible serious and fatal accidents due to it.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that when applying the brakes, the brake pedal was depressed into the floorboard. The vehicle did not respond and the contact drove into the curb to prevent a crash. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic and located the failure as a ruptured brake line, caused by corrosion. The mechanic replaced the brake line and the master cylinder. The failure and current mileage was 113,854. Updated 9/16/11updated 2/23/12
Failed brakes due to brake fluid lead in corroded brake lines.
If i am applying the brakes and i go over a rough spot in the road like a bridge seam or speed bump, the antilock brake kicks in and takes away my ability to control the braking system on the car.i have almost rear ended cars in the past because i can not stop once the antilock kicks in.my mechanic cannot find an explanation for this but says he has heard this several times.
This concern has been occurring for over a year now. The abs light comes on and when you apply the brakes there is a loud noise and the vehicle does not stop right away but continues to move. On several occasions i almost hit the car in front of me. Took it to the dealer and was told the abs module is going and the price to fix it was absorbent. To me this is a safety concern that should be addressed by chevrolet and nhtsa.
Vehicle was serviced per recall below on 1/26/2006. Abs sensor was inspected and cleaned, but not replaced. Defect covered in recall is now being displayed by vehicle (braking distance is extended at low speed - caused by abs sensor malfunction). Vehicle is currently not driveable. Anti-lock brakes engage at low speeds over 50% of the time.started in early december.we had early season snows last year.passed inspection later that month.had it in for service at local auto service business & no obvious issues.talked to chevy dealer and they said they'd have to investigate.recently found gm recall no. 05068, but chevy says i don't have it.i've run over curbs and been close to hitting parked cars & walls.
Driving down a hill on my street the brakes gave way.i pushed the pedal to the floor and the vehicle did not stop.i was able to pull over and stop the vehicle.upon inspection, the service station indicated the rear brake lines failed due to rusting.the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the two rear brake lines were replaced as well as a frozen caliper.updated 08/27/14
While slowing to a stop, the abs brakes on my 2001 chevrolet suburban kick in, rendering the brakes ineffective.it started in the spring (wi) so i was unsure as to whether or not it was road conditions, however after the 2nd occurrence on what was a dry road, i took the car in.brakes were recently redone, but the shop cannot find anything wrong.still occurring, and yesterday i almost rear-ended someone due to the gap in brake effectiveness.seems that if i pump them, i can get it to release and brakes then allow me to complete stopping sequence. Have another appt. Tomorrow, but am concerned about safety in our family's vehicle.it doesn't happen at every stop, but randomly, so at this point i am giving the cars ahead of me a good bit of distance to compensate for extra time to stop.
After towing our travel trailer 60 miles, my wife was backing suburban into the driveway and pulled forward to adjust the trailer angle and lost all steering. When i went to see what it was doing, noticed that the brakes were also very difficult to operate. Was able to back the trailer into the driveway with much effort to adjust the steering. Hate to think what would have happened if it went while towing a trailer on the highway with the rush hour traffic. Verified fluid was full and belt and pulley were spinning normally. Mechanic suggested to check pulley, was able to move it forward from the power steering unit easily with a screw driver.
Abs system was serviced as part of 2006 recall campaign.sensors were cleaned and returned to service.please note that in 2006 when issue first surfaced, one week prior to recall, chevrolet dealer quoted a price over $800.00 to replace hubs.then when recall was announced, they said the hubs could be cleaned.in november 2011 sensors failed again and hubs (housing sensors) were replaced.the recall campaign was not effective.
2001 chevy suburban; abs activates at low speed. Taken to grossinger chevy for repairs on 11/23/05. Abs sensors replaced and fr rotors turned to remove corrosion which triggers sensors. Problem still persists; returned vehicle to dealer. Fr rotors turned again since small corrosion spot still evident. Now rotors at minimum thickness. Problem resolved - no charge for 2nd visit. Total repairs billed at 525.76+tax.
Abs module failed @ 37,000 mi and again @ 67,000 mi. Dealer charged approx. 1200.00 each time.
Multiple times while driving my 2001 chevy suburban and coming to a stop, at slow speeds, my abs brakes come on.it usually occurs at approx. 3mph.i have tried replacing my brake pads, my abs computer and a sensor.none of these actions have resolved the problem.the number of times it has occurred are too numerous to count.i also have two friends with identical problems in similar gm vehicles.to date i have spent over $1000 on the problem.
Abs sensor/braking issue.mechanics trouble shooting and research on internet shows that it is identical to issue reported in current nhtsa investigation identified in http://www.ebearing.com/news2005/053101.htmalready a recall in canada.very upset at these findings and that my family has been at risk for a number of months while we have been trying to isolate this issue.

- the contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban.the contact purchased this vehicle on january 26, 2007. On 2/10/07 the contact noticed that it was taking longer than expected to brake and he was too close to other vehicles at low speeds.the contact said that the brake pedalpush upward and then it went down.it became difficult to avoid other vehicles when coming to a complete stop.the contact took the vehicle to auto sale in pasadena md.the contact then called chevrolet, and was told that this vehicle did not fall under a current recall that describedthe same symptomsas in the vehicle. When applying brakes pedal fade appears to be be locked up requiring extended stoppping distance. .
I have the exact problem identified in pe05020. The abs comes on almost every time i stop. My wife almost crashed in another car in a parking lot. While i don't live in canada where gm recalled vehicles for the same issue, i live in the north state subject to the same conditions. What is gm waiting for, more casualties? this is on a 2001 suburban with a complete set of new rotors and pads. It started about 1 month or about 1000 miles after the brake job ( mid august). I have parked the vehicle until i can get it fixed. I am telling all my friends that have suburbans and avalanches to look out for this problem. I know i will stay clear of them in parking lots and stop lights.someone should put a warning out to the media -- these vehicles are dangerous!
While driving at 25 mph/apporaching a stop sign, and when applyingbrakespedal went to the floorboard, causing extended stopping distance. Brakes failed to respond. Consumer has contacteddealer. Dealer was unable to determine cause ofproblem. Please provide any further details.
Dt:while slowing down the abs brakes do not hold. The vehicle will not stop even if pumping the brakes. This happens when going 10 mph or slower. No abs warning light comes on. The consume r found out that the same vehicle was being recalled in canada for the same problem. Dealer asked him about the abs light coming on, and told him to bring vehicle in next week. He contacted the manufacturer and filed a complaint. Rotors and pads were replaced 8 months ago. The caller thought the dealer should have checked the abs system when replacingthe rotors and pads. He has had only one close call, and was very careful when he driving. The caller stated that t every third time he hit the brakes they failed.

Honorable senators & congressmen: we seek your investigation and protest over general motors' outrageous decision to exclude wisconsin from its recent truck/suv anti-lock braking system recall. Some 14 "cold weather" states (plus canada) were covered, including all bordering wisconsin---but not wisconsin! our 2001 vehicle experienced the anti-lock problem. Our gm dealer simply did the repairs, and stated that we'd be reimbursed after the recall went into effect. Thus, we had no need to file any formal complaint. Now gm states that wisconsin was excluded because it had not received sufficient complaints! gr-r-r-r!! this must not stand. We have also requested assistance from the national highway traffic safety administration. We would also appreciate your assistance. Warm regards, mark & sharon leider1319 woodview avenuesheboygan, wi [email protected].
This is a known problem here is a copy of what is wrong with my 2001 chevy suburban 4x4 2500nhtsa action number : pe05020 manufacturer : general motors corp. Component : service brakes, hydraulic:antilock date investigation opened : april 28, 2005 date investigation closed : open summary: in november 2004, gm notified odi that it was recalling approximately 150,000 model year 1999-2002 c/k model trucks in eastern canada to correct a condition in the antilock brake system (abs) that may result in unwanted abs activation and increased stopping distances during low-speed brake applications. Gm indicated that the condition can occur if corrosion forms under the wheel speed sensor and moves the sensor away from the integral speed-sensor toothed ring. The condition does not set any abs codes nor does it illuminate the abs warning lamp. Gm's recall procedure involved removing the wheel speed sensors, cleaning the sensor mounting surfaces on the bearings, applying zinc-x to the cleaned surfaces, greasing the mounting surfaces, reinstalling the speed sensors, and verifying that the wheel speed signal output voltages were within specification. Gm reported a failure rate of 0.32 incidents per thousand vehicles in the vehicles covered by the recall in canada. Gm indicated that the corresponding rate in u.s. Corrosion states was 0.03 iptv and that it would continue to monitor that experience. Odi has received 120 complaints involving my 1999-2002 c/k trucks in u.s. Salt belt states, which appear to be related to the defect condition addressed by gm's safety recall in canada. Twenty-two of the complaints allege that a crash occurred, including one that involved 6 vehicles and resulted in 4 injuries. A preliminary evaluation has been opened to assess the incident frequency and trend associated with the wheel speed sensor condition in the united states.
Abs and brake lights continue to come on.
When applying brakes intermittently pedal will fade, resulting in extended stopping distance. This happens at any speed.taken to dealer 3 times, cannot duplicate problem, and saidit was normal for this vehicle.
On 5/2/05 contact noticed an investigation for abs brake problems.car was taken to dealership, who reported no remedy for problem. At low speed 10-15mph vehicle keeps on going, when trying to stop.contact has service records, and vehicle is regularly serviced.consumer adds along with extended stopping distances, the abs would pulsate.dealer finally agreed to fix the problem. *sbconsumer went on to nhts web site and saw that corrojian a canadian vehicle was having the same exact problem with the abs sensor, and could not allow car to stop sometimes at low speed.*sb
Caller stated that he had unwanted abs activation on low-speed braking.brakes would kick in on dry flat pavement as he was coming to a stop.generally happening at lowered speeds of 10 mph or less.
Anti-lock braking system failure. Pump on anti-lock braking system continues to run causing pump failure unless disconnecting fuse at panel. Upon disconnecting fuse the anti-lock braking system is useless as is the traction control feature. All lights, abs, traction assist, brake become illuminated on dash board. I feel this is a hazardous condition due to the driver not having the anti-lock brakes or traction assist. I've talked with numerous owners of the same type vehicle and they all have the same complaints. The only repair is to replace the electronic brake control module (ebcm) that is mounted to the top of the abs pump. Gm is charging in the ballpark of $700-$900 for this part and they are aware of the problem.8jb
Front brakes malfunctioned causing the vehicle to swerve to the right approximately two feet, this event occured on smooth, dry, clean asphalt.
No known event led to failure. My abs engages unnecessarily on wet/snowy pavement. It even happens on dry pavement. It happens only at slow speeds and right before the vehicle comes to a complete stop. I had the speed sensors replaced and the seating for the sensors cleaned out. Cost for repair was $400.
According to the nhtsa there is a safety recall on my vehicle (nhtsa # 05v379000). Chevrolet denies any knowledge of this recall (not just my vin, but the whole recall) and won't even look at my vehicle. My vehicle has been showing this problem for years. I paid $600 last year to repair it, the vehicle still fails and when hitting pothole or bump, the abs is audible and felt through the pedal and the brakes fail and cause the vehicle to continue. Again, chevy refuses to acknowledge there is eve a recall-how do i get them to fix it?
When coming to a stop sign brake pedal went to the floor and it felt like abs engaged even though the pavement was bone dry.this has happened to me before, but the mechanic could not find the cause of the problem.then, i noticed that there was a recall for this situation.so i went to an chevrolet dealership, thorstad chevrolet, madison, wisconsin and they said that they couldn't fix the problem until november, when the kits are mailed out.also, ilearned today that the recall is not for wisconsin because it is not considered a rust belt state.how can they not fix vehicles that are defective.what do you think they put on the roads in wisconsin to keep ice from forming?salt is the answer.
Consumer states:the abs activated between 10-15 mph.the dealer determined that the hubs were deteriorating do to corrosion.
Driver noticed that the brakes were inoperative.while applying the brake pedal it went to the floor. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, but mechanic could not duplicate the problem.
While the consumer was driving the abs brake pedal goes to the floor without warning resulting in total brake loss.
While driving about 20 mph on a side road and without warning vehicle went into a skid, and a collided with a tree. There were no injuries.vehicle was towed to the dealer for analysis. Dealer determined that thecause of failure was abs braking systemmalfunctioning.
My abs engages at low speeds on dry pavement almost every time i come to a stop.
2001 chevy suburban - anti-lock brakes activate at slow speeds, when they should not. Vehicle takes longer to stop, almost causing accidents. Dealer replaced rusted wheel hub. But, indicated that it would not be covered by recall campaign number 05v379000. I believe it should be.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban.while driving 5 mph, the abs activated without warning and the stopping distance increased.as of september 24, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle.the contact believed that the abs wheel sensor caused the failure.the manufacturer stated that his vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock).the current and failure mileages were 219,000.
2001 chevy suburban was involved in a collision due to a defect in the abs system as stated in recall.***no answer required***
Anti- lock brakes activating at low speed even though no conditions exist that would require them to kick in.
Dt: consumer states: the abs systemmalfunctioned to the point were theabsbrakes won't work and neither will 4 wheel drive, possibly due to road salt. The abswill deactivate whenhitting a bump sometimes or sometimes when just starting the vehicle. Dealership saidmodule needed to be replaced. Took to shop, and claimed that the wire corroded.
Major safety problem- upon light and medium brake application abs is engaging, causing loss of braking control and increased braking distance. Chevrolet dealer was unable to duplicate problem until 12/13/2001. They observed the problem, opened a case with chevrolet and they advised that the rear brake proportion valve was engaging and the action was normal. This is very unsafe, chevrolet refuses to fix problem!!
Front brakes malfunctioned causing the vehicle to swerve to the right approximately two feet, this event occured on smooth, dry, clean asphalt.
The abs on my 2001 chevy suburban activates at slow speeds extending my stopping distance. I was subject to a recall in october, 2005 when i had no symptoms but took my vehicle to the dealer who says they completed the recall requirements. Now, i am having the symptoms and gm refuses to take care of the problem. I spent $80 at a dealer for diagnosis and they say it is a faulty wheel sensor(low voltage) and want another $330 to repair. The recall letter i was sent specifically states that "in some cases, the front wheel speed sensor may require replacement."gm offered me a 10% discount on the repair after i called them. I feel they should repair it.nhtsa recall # 05v379000.
Contact states: the anti-lock brakes are locking while slowing down. The brakes are jerking when applying pressure to brake.the brakes are taking considerable amount of time before car is actually stopped. This is even a problem in dry weather conditions.
Dt: contact stated the control module for the abs system shorted out. The indicator lights on the dashboard had been on. The motor to abs system would running continuously. He removed the fuse to the abs system. The abs system no longer worked. He contacted the dealer, who stated they could replace the motor, however, they offered no free remedy. Updated 12/27/05.
I have a 2001 chevy suburban that is also having the dreaded abs issue, abs engages at low speeds and while cornering while braking at low speeds.i notice there is a recall for this problem, but because i live in the northwest, not the midwest or northeast, it does not pertain to me. This is absolute horse caca. I live in a coastal town (salt air= corrosion) also a military area(people move here from the afore mentioned trouble areas). In today's day and age of auto auctions, interstate travel, etc... Autos are transferred everywhere. How can gm issue a regional recall? my first occurrence of this issue was last weekend on a road trip with the family.i entered a turning lane to make a left turn into the hotel parking lot, while slowing and then braking for the turn the abs engaged and kept me from stopping for approx 3-4 seconds( a suburban can travel quite a distance away in 3 seconds even going under 10 mph.the poor girl that was in the turning lane ahead of me must of thought her honda was about to become recyclable(crunched). Only by the seat of my pants did i avoid a collision.on coming traffic eased and i was able to take evasive actions. (hit the gas and fish tail into the hotel parking lot, stopping only by hitting a snow bank!i have a appointment with the shop friday to have it fixed. Even better, i'm only 800 miles out of the extended warranty we purchased. From the looks of it, $1000 to fix abs, $2,400 worthless extended warranty=$3,400. This chevy was my first and last american car purchase.have 2 imports with 250k and never more than routine service. Argh!just because there was not a injury, death, fire, etc.. Doesn't excuse gm from national responsibility.
Dt:the contact states when he applied the brakes the abs activated.this happened at lower speeds when the brakes were applied.on one occasion he panic braked and the vehicle would not stop.this resulted in the contact's vehicle hitting another vehicle.there was a recall for this type of vehicle, but the manufacturer said this vehicle was not included in the recall.the service dealer cleaned the abs sensors after the accident occurred.he assumed this was asafetyproblem. This corrected the problem.
I have noticed within the last 2 weeks that my 2001 suburban is having an intermitent problem at slow speeds stopping.the anti lock brakes engage and it takes longer to stop.a technician friend of mine looked at it and suggested that it was part of this problem and that it would be very expensive to fix.he suggested that i submit a claim form.he said that there is an existing investigation, inoa pe050020-20135p.
Owner was backing out of the driveway and the abs light came on. It locked up the wheels, and the vehicle would not move. Owner had the vehicle towed to the dealer, and was informed of the existing problem, and that this vehicle was the sixth vehicle of its kind to encounter this defect.
My abs and brake system lights turn on and off simultaneously and intermittenly, sometimes staying on for the duration of the trip and other times never coming on at all.i have had the brakes checked and replaced, however this did not fix the problem.i'm getting real tired of my 2001 chevy suburban having problems that are more related to sensors then actual mechanical problems.often the fixes for these problems are costly and of course, they all occur after the warranty.i have experienced the fuel sensor problem since 56,000 and i'm currently at 93000 miles.unfortunately, i have to wait till november to get it fixed under the latest recall.can you please check if there are others facing the same brake system/abs problem?when is chevy going to get their act together?
Abs/brake system warning lights continue to come on and stay on.once vehicle has been shut off and restarted, lights don't come on until after a period of driving.had brake system checked and everything checked ok.
Abs light came on today. The abs pump was bad and required replacement. This is a safety issue and needs to be addressed. Note that the part was in stock, hence this is not a rare occurence. I have several older abs (bosch) automobiles and they do not fail.
2001 chevrolet suburban 2wd.
About a month ago, the abs light came on when i turned on the engine of my car and it stayed on. A motor under the car continued to run, even after i had turned the engine back off. I took the car into my local chevrolet dealership and they replaced the module 4.720 in the abs motor. My car has approximately. 66,000 miles an is an 2001 model - this type of extensive repair should not have happened. The dealership stated that they have had to replace ~50 of the abs modules for the same problem. There should be some compensation and/or recall or something for persons whom have purchased autos in good faith that they were build well and the manufacture will stand behind their product. Old part is not available.*la
The abs module that gm has known is a problem.it's a problem in model years 99 through 02.i own a 2001 suburban with 54,000 miles.there is a relatively inexpensive alternative than replacement that gm will not admit too.search the internet for the alternative.it's not hard to find.this problem is so common it's difficult to imagine a company wouldn't issue a recall.
The abs brake light came on, then there was a noise which sounded like avacuum.consumer disconnected the battery.the next day the battery was reconnected, and the noise came back. Consumer took the vehicle to dealer for repairs, and it was determined that abs brake module needed to be replaced....several similar failures on vehicle in this small town. Vehicle should be recalled.

Took 2001 suburban in november 2005 to wilton chevrolet, wilton, ct, for gm abs brake recall, fixing brake terminals for possible corrosion in northeastern states.dec. 05 - october 2006 abs dashboard light would come on sporadically for short time and then go off with no reasoning.from august - october 2006 abs light would come on more frequently.after taking the vehicle to local repair shop they hooked up to computer and found vault code with abs module, ($99.00 charge), but said that i would have to take to gm dealer to replace abs module because they could not reset the computer code when the module is replaced.took vehicle to arroway chevrolet in katonah, ny and they replaced the abs module after also finding the same computer code vault.$1,300.00 repair cost.i have suspicion that when the abs brake recall repair was done that a short happened to the abs module causing it to eventually fail.
The consumer heard a motor running. It was later determined that it was the abs motor.this occurred while key was in "off" position. The dealership replace the abs motor and module.
Abs module failed at 56k miles - i believe this is a safety issue with a failure of a braking system at such low mileage.abs light came on and wouldn't go off.abs system kept running after car was turned off.gm dealership told me the entire module needs to be replaced and charged approx. $1000 to fix it.
Abs module failed at 40,200 miles with no apparent reason. Dealer said it was an internal failure. Gm did refund 50% of the repair cost as the part should not have failed so soon.
The abs ebcm module on my 2001 suburban went out. Chevy dealer will not warranty. A very expensive fix $1100.00 for the module alone.*la

2001 chevrolet suburban w/40,000k vehicle has excessive rear brake pad wear out ( 3 set rear brake pads). (0 front wear out)no assistance or remidy supplied by general motors. Currenty unable to get several other suburbans to pass inspection in n.j. Due to excessive rear brake pressure. I have also found this problem with k1500 series chevy trucks also w/ high amount of rear brake pad wear out.
The rear brake pads experienced premature wear.
Consumer took vehicleto have a state inspection done and found that the parking brake was not holding the vehicle. It was taken to the chevrolet dealer, and they found that the parking brake shoes were wornout, and both brake rotors needed to be replaced.

We have a 2001 chevy suburban with 26281 miles on it.on march 18 2006 we went on a 200 mile , round trip ride.brakes were fine then.no indication of anything wrong.stopping distance was the same no brake light illuminated on vehicle no noises coming from brakes at all.everything seemed fine.march 19,2006 :backing out of our driveway to go to church. Stepped on brakes heard awful grinding noise. At this point the stopping distance did increase substantially and every time the brakes were depressed they would grind.took to garage on monday to have looked at.needed to rotors and brake shoes installed on the rear of vehicle.at twenty six thousand miles this shouldn't have happened.chevrolet said it is due to road salt buthave lived in maine my whole life and have only had a rotor job done once before on a car with 1100000 miles on it.the dealer shere we bought the vehicle is 75 miles away, so i didn't feel safe driving the 75 miles to have the vehicle repaired there.they say talk to chevrolet to reimbursement and chevrolet says since warranty expired may 30 2005 and that i didn't take it to the dealer they will not cover any of the repair cost.rotors should not be wearing out at 26000 miles. This is a safety issue that chevrolet should be looking into.
Failed brakes due to brake fluid lead in corroded brake lines.
While attempting to depart from picking up out travel trailer, both the power steering and brakes went out on our 2500 4 wheel drive suburban. The only thing that stopped the suburban was the trailer's brakes. Luckly we were still in the parking lot and therefore going slow.upon exaimination, i pulled the surpinetine belt off and the power steering pully and shaft came off.from what i understand the steering and the brakes are connected. This can also happen when the brake booster goes out.the good thing is that this not only happened in town but not on the freeway going down a grade pulling a 9,000 lbs trailer.i have replaced the power steering pump and am in the process of having the brakes bleed as they don't "feel" right.
Simultaneous failure of brake and power steering system while towing a 25 foot trailer.. Both systems run off same belt. Power steering seized and broke belt.
Power steering pump flow control valve actuator or power steering gear valve imbalance causing tire wear and unnecessary alignments. Excessive tire wear in only 2 months since brand new. Vehicle was pulling to the right at all speeds. Two separate alignments and numerous tire rotations (costs to customer) failed to correct. Unique symptom is steering wheel turns to one side when engine is started (pump active) and steering wheel moved easily to one side and high steering effortto other side. Other symptom whine from steering pressure hoses (cavitation). Steering bleed of air did not fix.(http://www.automotiveforums.com/)
2001 suburban-steering shaft pop turn over bumps, cause steering to shake/ pop.steering shaft was replaced on 10/23/2007. Complaint how many other customers out there that don't know about this bulletin my truck have 116737 miles i should have been informed about this. What if i would have had a accident.(2) i have a steering gear box failure and like the bulletin says noise when turning to the right and left. I think the steering shaft cause the steering gear box to go out. Having this steering shaft problem for over 1,167,37 miles some related problem sure to cause another problem. Bill heard chevrolet worked on my vehicle. I found the bulletin and brought this to their attention.
Clunking from front suspension, gm knows there is a problem, what happens if intermediate shaft fails?
While driving at 25 mph consumer heard a popping sound coming from under the hood of the vehicle.then, the consumer was unable to steer. Consumer was able to spin the steering wheel on the column without turning the tires.
While driving the power steering failed making the vehicle nearly impossible to steer.after towing it to a chevy dealer, they informed us that the shaft in the power steering pump had broken.there is a nhtsa recall on gm/chevy trucks for this problem.gm does not acknowledge any recall for power steering pumps.
The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. While the contact was driving 40 mph he heard a rattling and knocking sound in the steering wheel. The vehicle has not been diagnosed or serviced by the dealer for the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000 and the current mileage was 111,000.
My 2001 chevy suburban made a clunking noise in the steering column.i took it to the dealer and they lubed the steering column intermediate shaft for $110.00. When i got home i looked this problem up on the internet and found lots of complaints and there is a service bulletin about this problem and a replacement shaft to correct what appears to be a factory defect. I can not find the service bulletin and would appreciate some help on finding it. I feel that i should be reimbursed for the work done and want my vehicle to get the replacement shaft.
When the steering wheel was turned or vehicle driven over a pump in the road entire steering wheel and column shook. Vehicle was taken to a dealership, who acknowledged the problem and packed the steering column. The problemrecurred a year later.the manufacturer was contacted, but didn't acknowledge the problem.
My 2001 chevrolet suburban has the power steering brief failure problem i read about in the wall street journal.usually at lower speeds, the power steering stops working momentarily giving one a brief moment of panic.
This is a life threatening failure!!. No safety defect listed.
*nlm
On april 30,2005 while operating the 2001 chevrolet suburban the power steering pump pully shaft failed. The steering assist was immediatly stopped.the vehicle was shut off before the shaft left the housing which could result in the pulley coming off and causingsevere damage, including but not limited too, front brake line severing and loss of front braking.gm notice 05v00500 is suspiciously simular in nature, but gm is accepting no responsibility at this time. File #1-332-115018 to gm is under review.the potentially hazardous nature of the failure has prompted me to contact the nhtsa.
While making a routine turn the power sterring failed creating an unsafe situation.further invesigation revealed that the pump shaft had broken.

2001 chevrolet suburban hydraulic pump driveshaft broke in the steering.*mrthe vehicle lost the steering and brakes.*sc
While turning sharply the steering and brakes suddenly became very difficult.took to dealership and they said it was the hydraulic pump driveshaft in the steering broke. This part was a recall in the 2000 gm truck line, while mine is a 2001. Since this is a safety recall why won't they pay for my repair?
Driving on snow covered road. Power sterring pump shaft failed making truck extremely difficult to steer.power steering shaft failed-replaced power steering pump-old parts are available. We were fortunate to be moving slowly .
Power assist pump shaft broke leaving me unable to steer or brake.power assist pump was replaced at my expense and old unit retained by dealer veh had to be taken by towtruck.the consumer received a letter from gm stating that the failure occurred because of lack of maintenance and low on fluid, however the consumer disagreed.
While making a left turn, the power steering failed without warning. As a result the steering became very difficult, however the driver managed to pull the vehicle off the road. The dealer stated the power steering pump shaft had broken.*sc
Simultaneous failure of brake and power steering system while towing a 25 foot trailer.. Both systems run off same belt. Power steering seized and broke belt.
*sc
Driving at 65 mph down the interstate, suddenly the sunroof glass separated from the frame and flew away into the road behind us. The inside sun shade was also sucked out. The sunroof was closed at the time.the frame and motor are intact and still operate normally. Sunroof was made by vermeulen-hollandia, model: tvs s/n 461569. There is a recall on 2002-up models from them but not for this serial number. Company name is now webasto.
Running board is loose and not fastenedproperly on both ends. Dealer andmanufacturer were notified. Feel free to provide any further information.
Cracking of core support causing radiator to fall into engine
Consumer stated the door panel was loose, the bumper light was broke, and the air bag light illuminated, and also the driver side panel heats faster than the passewngers side.
There is no warning (either a visual warning or an audio warning) that tells the driver when one of the doors are not closed properly. The chevrolet 1-800 number people say that the suburban should have such a 'door ajar' warning & refer me to the local chevy dealership to have this corrected. The local chevrolet dealership says that this is not an included feature in the new 2001 suburbans. I find this hard to believe, especially since a not properly closed door in a family vehicle such as a suburban could very easily result in the door opeing at high speeds or around a tight corner or in a accident with the end result being a child being thrown from the car. I personally think that this 'door ajar'feature (pretty standard now on all cars for many years) may have accidentally been left off many suburbans or was overlooked in the design of the suburbans, both of which should result in gm recalling the affected cars to put in the 'door ajar' warning. Lastly, this may also affect the gmx yukon & yukon xl vehicles as they are identical cousins to the chevrolet suburbans. Fyi - i originally notified chevy & the dealer about this starting late sept '01 & have been frustrated to date on getting any straight answer and/or correction to my suburban.

Contact states this past wednesday while his wife was shopping, she opened up the glass portion of the liftgate. Then she almost shut it, and then she reached under to get a hold of the liftgate handle and raised the entire liftgate above her head .when she raised this the entire windshield broke and shattered on her head..he has talked to the dealer about this, and they said that these things sometimes happen. He stateed that this was not acceptable to him.

Rear end went out on three occasions.dealer has rebuiltrear end once and replacedring and pinion wearing and seal. Please provide further information.
Receiver weld broke causing trailer to swing and roll suburban.
*sc

Consumer purchased vehicle advising dealer he did not want firestone tires on the vehicle.dealer informed consumer that the tires were specifically for the vehicle.the vehicle wanders on the highway, and there is hydroplanning on wet surfaces and it handles poorly, the dealer released some of the air out of the tires, consumer is having trouble in determining what pressure tires should be inflated to.*jg(firestone steeltex r45 lt245/75r 16e)

I blew out the original tire on my suburban in sept, and spent $112.00 for a brand new replacement, and blew that tire out in november, the guy who put on my spare told me that there were problems with these tires splitting, or blowing, so i am having all of them replaced tomorrow... I talked to goodyear people here in haskell, and they say there is no warranty on them,, so it is my loss,, i dont think this is right.. And if these are defective i think someone, either the dealership or someone should replace them.... And goodyear should stand behind them,,,these tires are not safe<, please ,look into this and adivse thanks much,,jennabeth kimbrough, [email protected].
I took new suburban in twice for vibrations and pulling. Chevrolet claimed nothing wrong. Tire blew out on 12/26/01. Chev said that it was not there problem. Firstone said they would replace the one tire but that chev had to pay for damage to suv. Chev said they will not as they can not see inside of a tire. Now the 800 firestone says i have to mail in the tire and they will investagate as to if it was a tire defect. The local firestone already said it was. Attorney said not to mail in the tire. Firestone refuses to fix damage and to buy tires back that are only 5 months old. These people should be put out of business. Local firestone says they will buy tires for 25 dollars each only if i replace them with more firestone tires. I have a 40k suv i refuse to drive because of firestone. I want the suv fixed and tires put on from another company. (tiresize: p26570r-16)

Trailer hitch failure: defective welds at key attachments points between receiver tube and crossmember allowed gusset plates to shear under lateral load, causing receiver tube to rotate 30 degrees off center.detachment from vehicle and loss of trailer was imminent when condition was noticed.
The trailer hitch welds broke lose while towing a trailer in i 80 in omaha , ne , the trailer overturned and the suburban.general motors refuses to investigate the case because i had settled with the insurance company, bolts came loose and the welds broke. Causing the trailer to swing and crash.
The rear passenger as well as front driver and passenger side doors were not equipped door chimes.the dealer stated that there was nothing they could do. The consumer started to drive and when he made a left turn, the door swung open.the child nearly fell out of the vehicle.there were no warning chimes to alert the consumer that the door opened. *scc
After purchasing this vehicle, we began to notice that the "door ajar" indicator seemed to be malfunctioning, and brought it to the dealership for warranty service.on 5 separate occasions, a passenger door was discovered ajar while i was driving, but there was no warning or indicator in the dash to alert this to the driver.the computer information system in the dash will indicate if the rear cargo door is ajar, but not any of the passenger doors, front, rear or driver.the service department at my dealership has informed me today that there is no such indicator designed for this vehicle.i called chevrolet directly and was informed that i "should have considered this 'option' before i purchased my vehicle."the dealership has confirmed to me that there is no "option" for a door ajar indicator; in fact, it isn't even available on this year's 2002 model, either.i honestly fear for the lives of my 4 children, who ride in the back seats of this vehicle every day.how can a manufacturer market this vehicle to "meet the needs of the american family" when basic, standard safety indicators weren't even included on this "top of the line" vehicle?they are leaving themselves open for a huge lawsuit when someone's child finally does fall out of the suburban, "like a rock."
Premature rear section of brake line rust out 2001 chevy suburban.
I have a 2001 suburban with 65000 miles that intermitently stalls while driving and doesn't immediately restart. The problem has occurred in hot and cold weather, and occurs while driving at highway speeds, neighborhood speeds, and slowing to stop speeds. Usually the vehicle re-starts after 10 minutes, but it has taken as long as 45 minutes before it will start. The vehicle also intermitently will not start after being parked for variable lengths of time. The vehicle has been to two different dealerships with the same result:can't duplicate the problem so can't fix it. I call the chevrolet customer assistance center and they tell me to take it to a dealer for a diagnosis, which has been done multiple times. The last dealer performed complete diagnostic testing and found nothing wrong. Meanwhile, i read many articles and postings about other suburbans exhibiting the same behavior- stalling and not starting. And meanwhile, i get to drive a vehicle that puts my family in dangerous situations.while there have been no injuries, accidents or deaths caused by this behavior, yet, i am concerned about the safety of my family while riding in a vehicle that could stall at any time, with limited control of braking and steering. Chevrolet needs to step up and take ownership of this problem and do something before people die.
Wife experienced severe acceleration, up to 100 mph, and could not stop it.we took the 2001 chevrolet suburban in for service.they said they could not find a problem.than, i experienced the same situation with a severe acceleration.the dealer service people still say they could not find a problem. *la
Throttle is sticking. Excessive pressure needed to excelerate from idle.
When attempting to accelerate vehicle stalled.
Please help me .nlm
Dt:vehicle speed control malfunctioned. When starting vehiclehavd to apply additional pressure on the accelator, it seemed to bestuck. This only happend when putting the vehicle in park or reverse.this started happening onmay 12, 2005. Dealer looked at vehicle but was going to chargethe consumer for repairs.nhtsa actioninvestigation ea02015 dealt withsame problem.
Every morning when i start the car, it "lunges" forward. This has only happened 3 or 4 times during the day but it does happen every morning. I keep the car in the garage so when it does move forward it is only a couple of inches, but when i am in a parking lot, i make sure to leave plenty of room between cars so i do not hit anyone. I have owned this vehicle since jan. 07 and this just started in november.
The vehicle accelerated unexpectedly. The vehicle was being driven at 65 mph then suddenly accelerated to 90 mph.the driver had to shut off engine in order to get the vehicle to stop.the vehicle was taken tothe dealership where the driver was told there was no problem, however the mechanic said it was too cold.provide further details.
While driving, the accelerator became stuck which was caused by an accelerator cable failure. The parts werereplaced.the accelerator would also stick when stopped.the pressure must be applied to the gas pedal until it suddenly released and caused the vehicle to lurch forward.the consumer also experienced the same problem with his 2000 suburban.the consumer was informed by several garages it was a common problem from the 1999's on up with chevrolet;gmc, suburban, tahoe, and pick up's.*scc
While vehicle was parked with engine running for 15 minutes and when attempting to drive consumer noticed that the accelerator pedal was stuck. This happened intermittently, usually the longer the vehicle sat.
When the consumer attempted to accelerate from a stop, the accelerator pedal became stuck. The consumer had to use excessive force . The cause was not determined. Please provide more information.
My accelerator keeps sticking on my 2001 chevrolet suburban.i feel like this is going to cause an accident.i have talked to the fleet maintenance people here at my work and they have had the same problem with other chevrolet fleet vehicles.please please check into this it is going to cause someone to lose their life!*la
Consumer stated the door panel was loose, the bumper light was broke, and the air bag light illuminated, and also the driver side panel heats faster than the passewngers side.
The 2001 chevrolet suburban which i own leaks cold air on the front passenger feet. I was told by my insurance co. There may have been a recall by gm on this as it isa defect in the construction of the heating duct, it evidently falls apart and cold air from outside pours onto the passengers feet.
Problem with antilock brakes- longer stopping distances required when brakes are applied during low speeds.no incident has occurred
*scc
Electrical:if key is turned to accessory; after approximately 10 minutes the battery is drained and car will not start.this has been going on for 3 years even with a new battery replacement.also, frequently the clock display will be on the wrong time and lights flicker when using the power windows.

The contact owned a 2001 chevrolet suburban. While driving at an unknown speed, smoke emitted from the engine compartment of the vehicle. The contact pulled over and discovered that the front end and front wheels were on fire. The fire department extinguished the fire. Fire and police reports were filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard and deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 204,654.
This is concerning a '01 z71 suburban. Had tires changed due to unexplainable vibration in wheels. After tire change tires deflated. Found aluminum alloy rims severely rusted and pittedon the back side, found one rim has a hole the size of a pea after brushing some rust away.
