While driving vehicle at 40+ mph, the engine cuts off completely.feel that this is a safety concern as the vehicle just "dies"and vehicle has to be guided to shoulder.first incident happened on interstate 95 n , just south of richmond, virginia, returning home with our 4 children.found out later from a dealership that the 20 amp fuse called the ecm was blown.since the first incident in may this problem has occurred 4 more times.we guide vehicle to side of road and replace the fuse, start the engine twice and we are on our way.at this time, the vehicle is at the dealership, hooked up to a "tech ii" computer for further diagnostics.have informed dealership that i will not accept vehicle until this problem has definitely been resolved, as we are once again headed onto interstate 95 and may not be so lucky next time.thanks for your time, please do not hesitate to contact me as we are very eager to get to the bottom of this potentially dangerous problem.maryanne combs(703) 266-3173.

Consumer brought vehicle back in for solenoid problems that has been going on for a month and a half, currently the vehicle is operable.

While driving inside of driver's door caught on fire.consumer managed to pull over, and had vehicle towed. Dealershipwas notified, but the problem was not resolved.

Consumer stated the driver's side mirror caught on fire. The fire department stated it was an electrical fire.the vehicle was parked beside the house and was not driven for 3-4 days, the drivers side outside rear mirror assembly spontaneously ignited.it was found that the fire started due to wiring in the exterior mirror. *scc

Windows don't always come down when consumer pushes window button control or main control, possible wiring failure which causes the inside light dims when the window buttons are pushed.

Twice while driving at 65mph the engine control fuse has blown shutting down the engine and causing the power steering and abs braking to also quit.fortunately, we were driving on a straight road.could cause a big problem in bad weather and curvy roads.have seen that there is another similiar incident in your complaint files from the same make and model

On four different dates, my fuses for in instr. Panel blew out. The first time i had to be towed to a dealer in ga. They said i got bad fuel, and that it was not under the 3yr/36,000. That i had to pay for the repair. I since found out they took me for a ride. This was back in 2001. This year i have had my fuses blow 3 times with in a week. I have notice that every time they blow is when i'm blow a 1/4 tank of gas. I changed the fuse on may 26 th of 2003 and may 31 th of 2003 and june 2 2003. I think there is a big problem with this. I was driving 2 of the four times. I could have had a wreck.

Suburban dash fire while sitting in costco parking lot.car fully engulfed in flames within three minutes.fireman says it was a electrical dash fire.cause unknown.

On september 22, 2005 at approximately 7:45 p.m.i parked and locked my 2000 chevrolet suburban at the local elementary school.approximately 10 seconds later, the car alarm sounded.i unlocked the vehicle and immediately noticed smoke coming from the dashboard.almost immediately thereafter the fuse box began to spark and ignited.i immediately called 911 who arrived approximately 4 minutes later at which time the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames.the fire inspector determined the cause of fire to be electric.the car has been determined a total loss by our insurance company.general motors was notified of this incident on september 27, 2005.their investigator inspected the car on october 1,2005.they contacted us on october 6, 2005 to ask for witnesses and an official fire form fp-33c which we promptly provided.general motors has not determined the nature of the fire.we are concerned for other consumer's safety.we are shocked at gm's lackadaisical approach to this safety concern.we must know what the cause of this automobile fire was.general motors thus far has shown no sense of urgency in this matter.

I was having body work done on my above vehicle and discovered the brakes lines were rusted.i had a gm mechanic look at them.he informed me they were rusted and should be replaced.i have ordered stainless steel brake lines and will have them installed prior to using the vehicle again .certain parts of my frame is also rusted to the point of peeling.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle caught on fire between the accelerator pedal and engine firewall. The fire department was notified and was able to extinguish the fire. A fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The contact sustained minor blisters to the bottom of the feet, which did not require medical attention. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 232,000.

Dt*:the contact stated the service engine light illuminated.a nhtsa recall was performed on the vehicle however; the recall did not remedy the problem.the recall information is not available.the dealership would not offer a second repair without charge under the recall.

Dt*:the contact stated parking brake wasnot working.the vehicle was taken to the dealership, where adjustments were made to the parking brake.the adjustments made to parking brake did not repair the vehicle.additionally, the check engine light cameon intermittently.the dealership looked at the front end of the vehicle and stated there was nothing wrong.updated 01/25/06.

While driving at any speed steering wheel stuck.when this occurred it felt like driving without power steering assist. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the power steering pump.alsowater and fuel pumps were replaced.

The 16 lifters in the engine failed and need to be replaced, per consumer. Problem recurred.

Without warning vehicle stalled, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.consumer contacteddealership on three separate occasions, but the problem still occurs.

Loud noises from muffler. 600 cases chevrolet not willing to fix.

2000 chevrolet suburban problems with the hoist mechanism that is holding the spare tire underneath of the vehicle.*mrthe tire dealer was unable to release the spare tire, because the hoist mechanism was corroded.another dealership informed the consumer it was not uncommon for the mechanism to become frozen from corrosion. The dealer was unable to lubricate it, so therefore the entire unit had to be replaced.

The air conditioner compressor sheared contaminating the whole system. Gm recommends changing the whole system at a cost of 3to4 thousand dollars. The second compressor has already failed.i have checked into this and happens quite often. Gm needs to step up and issue a recall on these faulty compressor this happens just after the warranty runs out. *nlm

I have been through 4 air conditioning systems in 8 months.each time they have completely replaced the entire system including the compressor.the first time the system actually imploded into the refrigeration lines.

Air conditioner compressor seized up resulting in failure of the entire system and causing it to be contaminated. The dealer recommends replacement of the complete a/c system. Gm has developed a new design implying they are aware of the defects in the system however; they are offering no compensation to the consumer.

While changing a flat tire the factory crow bar bent and the jack broke and would not allow consumer to lower the vehicle, consumer had to dig out the jack to get the vehicle down.nlm

While driving at night all the lights including dash lights went out.then, 5 minutes later, lights came back on after playing around with the buttons.

While making a u-turn..the whole engine shut down..brakes. Lights. Steering. As if the car was turned off.not very safe at all

On multiple occasions, the low beam headlights suddenly stopped working.high beams and other lights all work.the low beams came back on after 1/2 hour the first two times, but now are not working again.i found several complaints about this problem in online discussion forums (for example: http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic303104.htm ), and the problem apparently involves wires that are pinched in the steering column due to the design of the tilt wheel.this is a very dangerous problem when driving at night and the lights suddenly go out.

While driving the consumer heard a bell sound and at the same time the vehicle head lights went out and the daytime running lamp failed to turn on resulting in poor visibility, the vehicle is equipt with an automatic headlight sensor which failed, the consumer had to turn on the headlights manually with the headlight switch.nlm

On three occasions whilevehicle was being driven at nightheadlightscompletely went out, cause unknown.dealer cannot identifyproblem.please give any further details.

The front headlights blink on and off randomly. *et

While driving with the low beams on in a snow storm, this allows the high beams to be covered with glare ice.when the conditions change and the high beams are needed it is worthless.*jg

While my carwas just sitting at a light andthe moment i triedto pull off the car stalled as if it was not receiving any gas. It putted and then it stop in the middle of the street. While the car behind me was clearly not paying any attention i was rear-ended. The dealership stated it was due to my fuel pump. I just purchased my 2000 chevy suburban in oct. 2006. My question to is how long does the recall last?

Fuel leak with full tank on level ground. Appears similar to defect summary ea04026. Vehicle had had fuel sensor replaced 06/2002 at 36000 miles for sporadic fuel gage / temp gage failures. Expect this is caused by the melted electrical terminals at pump module. Possibly related to sensor replacement.does not leak on level after driving 10 miles after fillup, but will leak if pointed down hill - very noticeable fuel leak. Certainly a fire hazard. Have talked with chevrolet 1-800-222-1020. They acknowledge the "engineering analysis" but will not authorize footing the bill for repairs.

2000 chevrolet suburban.truck refused to start-would finally start, then stall immediately.took several tries to get truck running.took to dealer-$800 to install new fuel pump.2 weeks later, same problem.back to dealer, new fuel filter (second in two months) and fuel injection cleaning.i researched internet and found that there is a problem with fuel pump.confronted dealership who then admitted that there is a problem with fuel pump--and that they have to replace 2 - 3 per week.

I believe it is bad business to have this many window motor complaints and not have issued a recall, in addition to have had this many problems on a year old vehicle is ludicrous.chevrolet has lost a once loyal customer.

Fuel pump wires melting together and causing vehicle to stop suddenly and shorting out pcm board.*nlm

Vehicle was equipped with power windows. The power mechanism failed, and windows did not work. There was a short in the battery. There was a bad cell. Also, there was a short in the fuel pump module. It had to be replaced.

Dt: the consumer owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban k1500. He stated there was a recall nhtsa campaign05v155000 but his vehicle was not included due to vin.he contacted the dealership and the manufacturer. The vehicle kept blowing the ecm fuse.this fuse controls the fuel pump and the computer. This recall was a fix for the fuse blowing. The consumerwas driving down the road 70 mph when the fuse blew and the car just died.

Filled the tank of 2003, suburban with 41,776 miles on it, but did not top it off. Consumer drove 16 miles and parked.15-20 minutes later, someone came in to tellconsumer that gas tank was leaking. Expecting maybe a small drip, but found a steady stream and a puddle that had spread under the car parked next to consumer's vehicle. Aaa toldconsumer to call the fire department, who in turn called the hazmat team. Firemen removed the gas tank protective shield, but could not gain access to stop the leak or pump out the tank.three hours later, vehicle had to be hauled by an approved tow to an authorized storage site over the weekend.apparently, a seal had failed on the sending unit, and the entire sending unit had to be replaced.had a spark ingited the vapors or spilled fuel the consequences could have been serious.

The fuel pump module was defective. The wiring on the fuel pump module often melted when the fuel tank was routinely run below a quarter tank of gasoline. This caused a short and a fuse to blow in the vehicle, there was also an immediate lost of all power. Which causes a dangerous position for the driver. The fuel pump was replaced 4 times.

I was going on vacation and driving and engine died .failure was fuel pump short and was bare wires exposed by melting same as in your nhtsa action number pe04042 and ea04026. Parts were replaced and please note that nota general motors dealership within a 100 -miles plus had the fuel pump in stock. I was told it was too expensive to stock . This is their one of their main engines and no one stocks them!? plus this was a friday and no said they could get to my 2000 suburban till tuesday period!

May 8, 2003:odometer 45,428 miles. Check engine dash light on. Vehicle left with dealship who stated that the code read "gas and/or vapor leak" but was unable to locate it at this time. Was advised that it was ok to drive until i could return vehicle at alter date. Aug 13 2003 i filled up tank, normally have @ 3/4 tank of gas, and after driving 5 miles home found gas running off the tank onto drive way, had to get pans to contain it. Aug 14 dealership took in vehicle and replaced the sending module at a cost of $600.00 +. Was advised it "was a good thing to fill it up as it isolated the problem".

Fuel pump assembly and leaky sealall wires melted together causing a safety issue.

Fuel pump failed while driving on interstate freeway causing engine to shut down.there was no warning, no 'service engine light', no fuel odors.car had a full tank of gas, was driving at normal speed (75mph) on freeway when all engine power was lost.car was towed to chevrolet dealer and repaired.this is the second fuel pump for this vehicle, the original fuel pump was replaced in february 2004.note that there is a recall on the fuel pump, issued this year, but no date when the repair will be made.

Car was traveling at 65 mph car shut down because of fuel pump fuse and module failed this caused the brakes and steering to fail not good at 65 mph!!!!

Dt: whendriving at speeds of 65-70 mph the vehicle stalled while accelerating to pass another vehicle on the interstate.the vehicle operated at a reduced speed.the engine did not die, but with hesitation the speed dropped from 65- 35 mph. The consumer continued to press the gas pedal, and the engine coughed and shot back up again.the consumer pulled over on the shoulder to avoid a tractor trailer.the consumer received a consumer service bulletin alertingthe issue ofengine stalling. The consumer lost h letter and called gm, who said this would not be a recall until november.the consumer took the vehicle to a certified pep boys mechanic, who determinedthis was a fuel pump problem. The fuel pressure, test that showed a low fuel pressure level at an idle due to fuel pressure, dropped even more.they replaced the fuel pump. Gm would not reimburse for corrections.since the fuel pump was replaced there have been no problems.

2000 chevrolet silverado 4x4 replaced the fuel pump 3 times by 70000 miles it was bad when i traded it in on a 2000 suburban, have 66500 miles on suburban and have replaced the fuel pump twice and its bad again, something needs to be done i'm starting to look at...gulp... Fords.*nlm

While driving at any speed steering wheel stuck.when this occurred it felt like driving without power steering assist. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the power steering pump.alsowater and fuel pumps were replaced.

2000 chevrolet suburban traveling at 45 mph the engine stopped, message center said "low oil pressure" and another (forgotten) message. I shifted to neutral, cranked the engine but it wouldn't start. I coasted off the highway and stopped. I telephoned the dealer who said it was probably the fuel pump. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, the fuel pump, the fuses and the fuel filler rubber connector hose were replaced. The removed failed pump module had shorted wiring just under the mounting plate. The gray wire had almost one inch of its insulation at the top melted off the wire and left dangling. This bare wire apparently chafed one of the two purple wires about 1/2 inch from its top and the resultant contact caused a short and blew the fuse. I have enlarged photos of the damaged wiring in place. The dealer was exceptionally helpful and efficient in repairing the failure. I am concerned about the high number of failures of the pump in the suburbans and the unexpected engine failure in a critical situation can cause an accident and possible injury.*la

Vehicle stalled, hestitated when started, smoked when vehicle is first started, did not register gas correctly, gas needle would float.i was told my vehicle is not part of the current recall, however, i have experienced the same problems as noted on the recall and my vehicle was manufactured the same year.

While traveling approx. 70 mph, car quit suddenly and completely.quickly lost power steering and brakes.luckily, we were on a straightaway not the mountain road we were travelling one hour earlier.car towed to quality chevrolet in escondido.diagnosis = catastrophic fuel pump failure.this is highly dangerous.we have a friend who had exactly the same failure at approximately the same mileage, 85,000 - 90,000 miles.notwithstanding the danger, this repair cost over $900 to repair.this is a bad design...failure results in a lifethreatening situation and repair is exhorbitantly expensive.

Dt: the consumer was traveling to north carolina at 70 mph on8-8-05, and he was in the passing lane when the car cut off,and there were trucks practically on top of consumer's vehicle.there was no warning. He could not steer. He had to go over 3 lanes of traffic to get out of the way.the consumer had the vehicle towed to a garage. They replaced a 20 amp fuse going to the electronic control module (ecm) he picked it up. He drove another 400 miles. On 8-17-05 the car quit again on the highway.had it towed to a chevrolet dealer in north carolina, and they determined that it was the electric fuel pump in the fuel tank. He received apending recall 05v155000 noticeabout 3 weeks ago pertaining to the fuel pump. He had the car serviced before going to north carolina, and they did not diagnose any problems with the car.

Chevy suv stallschevy 2000 suburban 5.3l bi fuel cng and gasolinespent most of the summer driving around mesa on just cng, sometimes for a whole month. Gasoline tank was almost always full.during the past 2 years have used about 50 % gasoline and cng each and have 29,500 miles on vehicle.took a trip on friday 23 august up to an area northwest of williams az started to drive home on sunday 25 august and was now running on cng at 79 mph (speed limit was 75mph), 107 degrees outside when the engine stalled completely on a moderate acceleration. While still moving i tried to switch to gasoline but that did not work. Noticed the engine had stopped and the suburban went into neutral.brakes faded and stearing went to manual.transmission went to neutral. Coasted to a stop. Could not restart. Got a tow to chevy dealer in prescott az and tried to start the suburban but nothing happened.found the ecm b fuse had blown. Replaced fuse. Drove 94 miles on gasoline and the fuse blew again at 70 mph on the freeway.replaced fuse and drove 18 miles home without a problem. Gasoline fuel tank at 1/3 full.monday 26 august, dropped the suburban off at the chevy dealer and they replaced a module that they said had an internal ground in it.fuse blew at least 6 more times, very scarry. Replaced fuel pump and problem went away.they said pump was drawing to much current at times and was failing.

Drove two hours, stoped at rest area, car wouldn't restart. Saw possible recall on nhtsa.gov for feul pump wires overheating. Called gm, they said there was't a recall out. Have not been driving the vehicle to far away from home.

Fuel pump failure - dangerous highway speed, stall, abrupt stall while driving at interstate speeds - very lucky to coast to construction traffic only entrance zone in area without shoulders.almost rearended during stall out.dealer states that fuel pump is defective and requires replacement for $700+chevrolet customer assistance center does not show indication that this problem is significant.web search shows that numerous people have had similar experience.car websites such as msn show fuel pump as possible future repair requirement in their evaluation.extended warranty expired at 100,000 and car at 107,000 miles.no consideration given.dealer authorized to make repair at my expense.

My gas tank read at half tank when leaving my driveway.after approx 9 miles while driving on the i-80 wb frwy on the fast lane my vehicle(v) began to quickly decrease in power, the fuellights, the service lights, and then all warning lights began to flash.the fueld tank read empty.my car was fully disabled within approx 40 seconds.i was able to react quickly and pullover on the side of the freeway on i-80 wb on barrett ave/san pablo ave.i called a relative for assistance who put in 5 gal of gas since the fuel warning light first flashed when the (v) began decreasing in power, the (v) would not start.it did not appear to be a battery/starter problem.i called a tow truck tow the (v) to my house and have my husband examine it since he is a master certified lexus diagnostic specialist.he said it may be the fuel pump, and was going to order the tools to repair it.i recalled receiving a letter about a fuel pump recall but could not locate the letter.i then did an internet research and called gm. I was told that my (v) vin number is not part of the recall,i strongly disagree because my vehicle duplicated the recall without being fully aware of the recall description. My vehicle has been maintained since it has been in my possession and the original owner serviced the car at dublin chevrolet in ca. This incidence could have led to a disaster for my 10 yr old daughter and i.i could have panicked and gotten stuck on the fast lane of the freeway with no power at all to my (v). We were stranded on the side of i-80 westbound freeway near barrett avenue/san pablo avenue exit for 2 hs until around midnight while waiting for a tow truck-my relative had to leave because of work, we were approached by 2 homeless while waiting for the tow truck; we were stranded in an unfavorable area of the freeway.i want my suburban's vin number included in their recall since it duplicated their recall description, and pay for all my towing costs.vehicle is disabled on my driveway.

While driving at high speedfuel pump went out on my 2000 chevrolet suburban which has 54.000 mi. It was softly recommeded the fuel filter be changed at 30,000. However the dealer and gm is aware of the fuel pump problem. The repair was $812.00 verses $34.oo for a fuel pump. The public should know that this could occur. Many women w/children drive this vehicle. There should be a strong warningbefore lives are lost. But of course the dealership wouldn't profit as much if all the fuel filters were replaced. Gm refuses to own up to the problem even though there have been many incidents, why else does the fuel filter last only 30,000 miles? i was told it was my faultby c&m chevrolet in san diego and gm, customer service. A stronger warning should take place instead of a soft suggestion to replace the fuel filter. So many women and children are usethis vehicle. I know that other makes and models have a much better fuel pump life than the chevy suburban. Is this a defect?i paid almost $40.000,i should have purchased a toyota.

Drove two hours, stoped at rest area, car wouldn't restart. Saw possible recall on nhtsa.gov for feul pump wires overheating. Called gm, they said there was't a recall out. Have not been driving the vehicle to far away from home.

Strong fuel smell detected, fuel injector and regulator leaking large amount of fuel on top of engine.

Total loss of engine power and steering control and braking while at highway speed was caused by fuel control module shorted out and ecm-b fuse blown. Fortunately, my wife was able to steer the vehicle off the highway safely, but she and two passengers were terrified.

After fuelingvehicle fuel tank leaked. Had vehicle serviced, there was a leak in fuel tank.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the check engine light illuminated.afterwards, the odor of gasoline was present.the vehicle was seen by a dealer for inspection.the dealer determined the fuel tank assembly was cracked and needed to be replaced.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop for replacement of the fuel tank assembly which corrected the problem.

2000 chevrolet suburban, gas tank cracked around fuel pump. Needed to be replaced. The fuel pump also makes a loud whinning noise.

The consumer's vehicle engine is stalling, and the fuel pump was just replaced from overheating . Now, heard about the recall from gm. Bought in 2001 and had problems since the vehicle was bought. When stopped at a stop sign the vehicle completely stalled out, this has happened numerous times.*sb

Consumer statedfuel gage was not working properly. Sometimes when fillingvehicle up, fuel gage showed empty. At other times when the vehicle was empty the fuel gauge showed full. Also, it was hard to tell whenvehicle needed fuel. Consumer had spoken with other suburban owners and they were having the same problem.consumer felt this is was a design defect with these vehicles.

Fuel - gas tank leak after refueling

In the process of replacing the fuel pump for the 3rd time..first one was under warranty but the next 2 are on me..now my mechanic informed me of a newer design ... Should have came out earlier.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban. The contact was driving 70 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road but was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic stated that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The contact did not call the manufacturer. The contact had the fuel pump replaced two months prior to the recent failure. The failure mileage was 201,000.

The lock actuator on the door broke and my wife was unable to open the door and get out of the vehicle. After discussing this issue with the service manager it was brought to my attention that this problem is not an isolated one but has occurred in many chevy surburbans. I believe that this type of problem is a safety issue in that someone could get trapped in the car.

I have a 2000 chevy suburban and a 1999 gmc sierra truck both vehicles have problems with the door handles not coming back to the proper position to latch properly without manually pushing them in after you close the door. This has caused my doors to open and almost having one of my children fall out while going down the road. This is a problem that has been ongoing since i bought the vehicles. The door handles stay in the out position when closed instead of being pulled into the door handle and latching. It also prevents a person from getting out of the car if the door does latch they need to roll the window down to push the handle in or have somebody else push the handle in so you can unlock the door.

Back window on my 2000 chevy suburban is a lift hatch window.it has separated from the hinges, we can't open it anymore and i feel like it will separate to the point of being blown off as i travel down the road.i've taken the vehicle to a local dealer and was told that they would have to replace the whole class instead of fixing the separation of the hinges and that my warranty does not cover glass replacement.also i took the truck to a local glass shop to see what they could do and was told that he had seen at least four other vehicles of the same make that had this problem.i don't think this is normal wear and tear; this is a manufactures defect that should be looked at and maybe a recall started by gm.

My son opened the rear window glass hatch of my 2000 chevrolet suburban and the window glass came loose from its hinges which are glued in some form of rubber/plastic. The glass was catapult upward by the pistons and away from the car. Dealership service advisors are aware of this problem, but will only replace for warranteed vehicles. The pieces that broke away from the glass were never adhered properly and should never have come loose.

I purchased a 2000 suburban in february 2004 nad the parking brake was not working then.i have adjusted the cable to the maximum extent possible and still no help. From the research i have down this appears to be a tremendously common problem, with no fix from gm other torepair the parking brake at the owners expense every 5k to 20k miles.

I purchased a 2000 chevroletsuburban new in july of 2000.within 2 years of purchase the emergency brakewould not hold very well.living in houston, texas.this seemed odd since the emergency brakewas rarely used.i noticed it gradually getting worse.in august of 2005 we moved to a part of texas with hills and needed the parking brake, but it would not hold even if fully depressed.repairs at the chevroletdealer totaled $485 plus tax.how could the lining, rotors, shoes, and retainers of the parking brake need replacing if the brakejust holds the vehicle in place when and if used? this seems like a defect to me.

Vehicle was warming up and out of gear when emergency parking brake failed, causing vehicle to roll forward ,down a hill, and hitting a tree.

Parking brake needed repaired.

I am the original owner of a 2000 chevy suburban.i keep it well maintained with proper service.on nov 1, 2003 i engaged my parking brake on an incline, i left the car for approx. 90 seconds and my passengers stayed in the car.when the passenger driver turned off the engine to follow me, the car swiftly rolled down the hill, jumped the curb and hit utility boxes and a house.the passengers experienced minor back pains.the accident could have been much worse if people were outside and in the path of the car.upon research, i have found many complaintsabout the emergency brake system on the suburban's.what is the emgerency brake for, it not to hold the car.

I am the original owner of a 2000 chevrolet suburban purchased from mac haik chevrolet in houston.i have complained about the inability of the parking brake to hold the vehicle in my driveway, and have had the rear pads/shoes replaced and the brakes adjusted more than once.each repair seems to last a few thousand miles so i gave up returning to the dealer for repair.however, i have been informed that the vehicle will not pass a safety inspection required in texas and do not feel that i should have to pay to have this repaired now that i have learned that there is a tsb that addresses this concern (02-05-26-002a-(01/28/2003).i am requesting that this issue be researched more thoroughly.if more drivers actually used their parking brakes on a regular basis this would be more commonly reported.

Emergency parking brakes fails to perform its function.when the parking brakes is engagedvehicle rolls. Dealership has serviced the vehicle several times for this issue, but the problem still exists.

Parking brake didn't work when vehicle was new.adjusted during warranty but only moderately better.the parking brake won't hold vehicle on level ground with transmission in drive with brakes were applied.it's a serious design issue. The dealer wants $200+ to adjust again but this won't solve the problem.*la

Purchased 2000 suburban used in 2002 with 37k miles. I have replaced the rear brakes and emergency brakes 2 times and is needing replaced again at 80k miles. Dealer is unwilling to concede problem with design or components and just says it is the nature of some vehicles and they have some customers that have to replace there brakes and emergency brakes every 15k.this is unacceptable and dangerous. I am frustrated at spending $700 every few thousand miles, and am looking at switching back to japanese brands!!!

Consumer states when stopping and activating the park brake, withabout 20,000 miles on the vehicle, the vehicle would coast an inch or two and a click could be heard as the transmission positive lock engaged. With vehicle in neutral and the foot brake released, the park brake has no braking effect.also, the parking brake foot lever goes all the way to the floor.dealer claims this is the design of the parking brake and there is a self adjusting feature.

Wheneverbrakes are in use vehicle can slow up, but fails to stop right away.stopping distance isincreased. Had hit a wall & a fence due to a lack of braking power. Vehicleequipped with abs which was not the problem. Brake pedal wentto the floor. Also, parking brakewent to floor.taken vehicle to dealership at least 6 or 7 times. Now pursuing the lemon law.battery failed.vehicle stalled.exhaust leaks and is loud.air comes through the center vent when the floor control is on.4-wheel drive would not engage due to a short in the module.fuel sending unit was replaced.

Emergency brake failure on my 2000 chevrolet suburban , i never used it, inspection time came and i spent eight hundred dollars getting brake fixed. Bad e-brake design on tahoe and suburbans, need to have recall gm.

Emergency brake failure, went to have suburban inspected ,had no brakes ,had brake pads and both drums replaced, never even used emergency brake once since i owned the vehicle since 2001.

I am the orignal owner of a 2000 chevy suburban. I have religously taken the truck in for service every 3,000 miles to mac haik chevrolet in houston where i bought the vehicle. I brought the truck in for an inspection and was told there was an inherantproblem with the emergency brakes on all 2000 suburbans and that it would be $200 to get the truck to pass inspection. I cannot remember ever using the emergency brake so it cannot be from over use. I then readthat those whom do have the problem fixed say it lasts for only a 1,000 miles or so. If it is a design failure own up to it and fix it once and for all before someone gets hurt. If not when you sell the vehicle tell the prospective buyer the emergency brakes do not work and we have not figured out how to fix them.

Brake pedal suddenly and rapidly went to the floor with little to no braking effectiveness.front brakes retained minimal braking while rear appeared to have no braking effectiveness.was able to bring vehicle to stop and looked under vehicle and observed brake fluid running onto the ground from under the left (driver side) rear passenger seat along the frame rail by the gas tank.upon investigation found the main brake line from the abs unit to rear axle hose connection was severely corroded and blown.the repair required replacement of the affected brake line and the system required bleeding.

The parking brake shoe was coming loose and gouging into the rotor and also the backer plates rusted away.*sc

This is an old complaint but is being submitted because chevrolet and gmc have failed to correct this. The emergency brake on the 1500 series suburban has been broke since the first year of owner ship.i contacted chevorlet and gm by email 22 ddec 2001 and all i received was acknoweledgement of the letter.i attempted to get it repaired last year in june at wallace chevorlet dealer with negative results.to date nothing from gm or chevorlet has been done to recall and correct these vehicles. Two notes here: this defect results in vehicle inspection failures in states requireing inspections.note two: it's a serious safety defect because it flat out dosen't workand i tow a 5,000 lb trailler and all the brakes are important. As i stated eariler chevorlet and gm to date has donenothing. One last point the 2500 series suburban has a properly design emergency brake. The same style can be applied to the 1500 series and solve the issue.

For the second year in a row my 2000 chevrolet suburban has failed the texas safety inspection because the parking brake failed. A chevrolet dealership repaired it last year and it failed again. I have been told the brake has to be used regularly to keep it working and was charged for the repair. There are no instructions in the manual stating this.

Dt*: the contact stated after jacking the vehicle up while changing the oil the parking brake failed and the vehicle rolled off the jack.the vehicle was taken to the dealership but no repairs were made. The manufacturer has been alerted. Phone interview update (april 5, 2006): mr. Sutton said that the transmission was in 'n' when he lifted the front end of the vehicle with a floor jack. The garage floor had a 5 degree incline and the vehicle rolled off the jack.

Emergency brake failure

The parking brake failed to hold. The dealership ajusted the brake, however the problem recurred.

After being serviced twice in the past year, the emergency brake has failed to secure the rear wheels when parked on an incline. Repeated visits to dealers have failed to address the problem.

Parking brake will not hold the car on steep surfaces. Came this way new. Many like vehicles have the same problem. Gm denies that there is a problem. The shop manual describes an adjustment procedure. The dealers can't find an adjustment in there computerized manual. The impass has lasted several monthhs.

Parking brake does not work at all. When truck was new, it was weak at best, now it will not function at all. Taken to dealer who agreed it did not work at all. Vehicle out of warranty and insists i must pay $180+ for repair/adjustment...even though it is a "known problem" (in their words). They stated even under warranty it would have only been covered for 12,000 miles since it is an "adjustment"even though they told me there was no adjustment for it and the entire rear brake assembly has to be removed to repair problem. Vehicle is a 4x4 with neutral transfer case capability and i feel the parking brake is essential for safe operation of this feature. It is obvious this is a known defect yet i am required to pay for the problem.

I bought the vehicle from a private seller and soon found that the parking brake pedal would go to the floor with no resistance and would not hold the vehicle on even the slightest grade with the transmission in neutral. The parking brake shoes were worn down to the metal and one of the parking brake drums was deeply gouged. The shoes and one rotor was replaced, which allowed the vehicle to pass state inspection, but now the pedal goes to the floor again and the parking brake does not hold.it is due to be inspected in september and probably will not pass without another $500.00 in repairs. I have not driven the vehicle with the parking brake on. I have found through internet research that this is a very common problem with this parking brake system and feel that gm should fix this problem. I have the old rotor but not the shoes.

2000 chev suburban parking brakes lost effectiveness about 40000 miles. At 79550 miles all pads, rotors and parking brake linings were replaced. Very similar to many other complaints to nhtsa. One side lining was good, the other gone. One rear rotor could have been resurfaces, the other very bad. Good life for service brakes. Very poor life for seldom used parking brakes.

Consumer states that the rear cable to the mechnical brake is one half inch form the right rear tire.this does not enable consumer to put chains on the vehicle.consumer also asks is there a possibility that the local dealer can move the brake cable so that a set of chains can be installed.*jg

Parking brake failed vehicle inspection. Mechanic replaced parking lever assembly because of a stretched cable. Still wouldn't work. Found malfunctioning parking brake adjuster. Local dealer says he is selling between 10-15 parking lever assemblies a month. Inspection station says they are rejecting on average 15-20 vehicle inspections a month from new suburbans because of emergency brake failure.

Consumer placed the vehicleinto the garage and transmission felt as if it slipped.the next day the vehicle would not go over 40 mph. Transmission had to be replaced at a cost to the consumer.the consumer's vehicle was not included in the driveshaft recall 05v005000.*tc

I was driving on the highway at 60mph when the vehicle went from 60mph to 30mph all of a sudden. Once i was off the highway the vehicle wouldn't drive over 30mph. I took the vehicle to a local dealer who informed me that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle is maintained properly and the transmission fluid isn't scheduled for changing until 100,000 miles.however, i check it when gasing up.the fluid is never low or burned.so the transmission suffered major mechanical failure before the fluid was even scheduled to be changed.the vehicle has 77,000 miles on it and the manufacture stated they wouldn't replace it.i don't pull trailers or boats with my vehicle. So i beleive there was a flaw with the transmission when it was purchased.when i spoke with other surburban owners with the same model and year they stated that they also had concerns about their transmissions.however, they hadn't yet experienced full system failure as i have.luckily, when i was on the highway no one was behind me.had they been that individual or myself could have been injured or killed because the vehicle went from 60 to 30 all of a sudden.i've talked with customer service reps and managers at gm who didn't care about the potential safety hazard on these vehicles even when properly maintained or the fact that thay had a customer who spent 48'000 dollars on a vehicle that would need a new transmission after 3 years.

Consumer states that the vehicle would down shift without warning. Dealer notified.

Vehicle was placed in park on a slight upgrade, as consumer was stepping out of vehicle and removed the keys, the vehicle began to move down the grade damaging another vehicle before coming to a stop against another vehicle, the vehicle was still in park when it finally stopped, consumer contacted manufacturer and after the inspection consumer was informed by manufacturer that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and no financial assistance would be given.

From the day i picked up this truck new i complained about the rusty chassis.i was told it was surface rust and that it would not cause any problems.now the chassis is rusted to the point that i do not think the truck is safe.

While making a low speed sharp left turn, my power steering suddenly stopped working.i was able to avoid hitting anything.diagnosis at the dealer was that the shaft on the power steering pump had snapped.while looking around on the internet to see if others had this problem, i discovered nhtsa campaign id 05v005000 issued in january 2005 which appears to describe my exact problem.i had been informed of several recalls by chevrolet for other problems but had not received any notice of this particular issue and was unaware of the potential danger.the dealer indicated that the vin number of my suburban was not on the list of affected vehicles.i contacted general motors customer care (case #71-523372221) and they verified that my vin number was not part of the population of suburban covered by this action. This is a dangerous matter.if my wife had been driving or if i had been trying to avoid something in the road at high speed, there would have been an accident. I do not know if i just happened to receive an isolated defective pump or if the population of defective suburban is larger than chevrolet currently acknowledges.the pump was replaced.

Transmission causing noise, vibrating and a skipping feeling to the tires when turning, this condition is especially noticeable while turning the wheel in reverse, the problem goes away when vehicle is placed in 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive.

Transmission would not shift, consumer states that the transmission did not have an external coolant which could have been requested at the time of purchase, the transmission burned itself up.

While drivingat 25 mph an accident occurred, and seatbelt did not tighten/ airbag did not deploy. . please provide any further information, and identification number.

Plastic part ofseatbelts when connecting the retractor broke. Dealership is aware ofproblem.

Child safety seat does not fit securely due toseat belt in rear middle seat being too long. Dealer contacted.please add vin.

While driving, brakes completely failed, resulting in an accident. There were no vehicle warnings. Cause unknown. Seat belts did not restrain in accident.

Ratchet for locking seatbelt in rear for carseats wouldn't stay tight at pinot needed for carseat and have had three rear windoe failures in 6 months of ownership.

Rearleft shoulder belt after being pulled tight will release again. Being repaired at this time. On other two back belt buckles, female part is too large, so child seat cannot be used. Dealer found no solution for this problem so far.

When placing child safety seat indriver rear seatseatbelt will unlock fromlocking mode as soon consumer tightens it.also, both rear center seat female parts of buckle is too large to accomodate css.

Driver's shoulder harness retractor does not retract shoulder harness assembly.have had the vehicle into the dealership for warranty repair on the shoulder harness assembly, but the repair work did not remedy the problem.

Passenger's seatbelt will tighten up whenclickingretractors inside. Consumerhad to take seatbelt apartto take it out.he felt like he was in a straight jacket, it was so tight. Dealership was aware ofproblem. Dealer states they have fixed problem, however have not.

After purchasing new 2000 vehicle, unable to properly secure child's safty seat into middle position of third row seats due to position of seat belt.additionally, there is not means provided to secure safety strap. There is only one secure point provided, but it is next to a window and seat belt can'nt be properly secured to permit no movement with car seat. Also, the seat belt snaps are not positioned in the seam of the seat but several inches out from the seat back, thus making it impossible to secure any seat without movement. Manufacture representives have assured me that the safest seat in the vehilce for children is the middle position.then why is a secure point next to a window and using a seat belt that relies on sudden stop of vehicle to stop the the movement of the seat belt? 2nd issue - firestone tires provided by manufacture were only inflated to 24 psi (that should have been 80 psi),with vehilce was delivered at sale.thus giving false safety to new owner.it would appear that dealer might not be following prescribed saftey requirements in prep of vehilce prior to delivery to buyer. In light of the national concerns regarding firestone tires, it would be assumed that all firestone tires not to mention all brands should be up to proper safety inflation standards prior to sale to public.please provide input on how these issues can be resolved.

On 4-8-00 i was stopped in a parking lot .my 6 year old son was sitting in the rear drivers side in the last bench.he reports turning around to look behind the seat .he stated to cry when i found himm he had the seatbelt around his neck with very little room left to breathe.i tried very briefly to help him. The seatbelt would only tighten.i released the buckle.my son had seconds tobe saved from choking to death.thank ghod my older son ran out of the car and someone had a pocket knife and we cut the seatbelt.my finger held the seatbelt and my son from moving and having the seatbelt squeeze tighter.if i were alone in the car my son may not be alive today.i now carry a scissor with me in the car.i never want this to happen to anyone else. Please look into this seat belt system.my understanding is the seatbelt system is made for the safety of car seats.my children have outgrown carseats .i need this system to be safe for them!!!i have not had my seatbelt repaired yet.i am waitng for the part from gm.gm was contacted.they told me since my son was not severely hurt this matter may not be investigated.my pediatrician gave me this website.my sons neck was bruised.my son was very traumatized.i have to convince him the seatbelt won't hurt him and that he has to wear it.i had achrysler town and country lxi 1996.this car did not have this seatbelt system.please help me. We spent 40000 dollars on a neqw car that was supposed to be safer for my children.i would like my old seatbelt system in my new car?the front seats in the suburban are fine, they are adifferent system.

Passenger seat back moves forward during braking.this poses a potential safety hazard since the seat belt is integral to the seat back.

Driver seat back is loose, 1 inch of play in it, when start and stop the seat shifts forward or backward with the movement of the vehicle.

Seatback rocks forward for passenger at stops and in stop and go traffic. My concern is in an accident the mechanism will fail allowing the passenger to collaps forward causing further injury.

Rear seat has no heating facility eventhough it was designed with the controls. Dealership indicated no corrective solution for problem from manufacturer.

The center seat that slides forward on the passenger side of vehicle will not remain locked and slides forward when brakes are applied.once the seat is locked you cannot slide if forward to enter the rear seat.the cam mechanism is plasitc and does not work.this is a dangerous problem as i carry 7 children to school each day.

While driving 55 mph rear passenger side seat collapsed backward with a child seat installed.dealer stated the outboard recline latchfailed. The part was repaired twelve times. However, the problem recurred.

The brake line on the driver side has corroded and caused a loss of brake fluid.as a result, the vehicle has lost significant braking ability. Upon examination of the other lines, it is apparent that corrosion has affected all visible brake lines.the metal has begun to flake off on all the lines due to corrosion.there is a visible leak in the brake line, below the driver side passenger door.the vehicle is not drivable in this condition.

Was slowing down for a light at an intersection. Was traveling around 15 mph when i started to brake then the pedal "popped" and went to the floor. It did come to a stop about 20 feet into the intersection, lucky for the 7 passengers that where with me no one was coming through the intersection. I cannot believe that my break lines are in this condition at this age. I owned a 78 chevy for about 12 years, the brake lines looked as good as new the day i sold it. Looking for a garage that can replace all the lines with non-gm parts. Unlike gm i value the life of my family. Gm just lost another customer.

Steel brake line along right rear frame member corroded and failed resulting in loss of brake fluid and braking action.inspection of other steel brake lines show extensive corrosion, drawing reasonable conclusion that other lines will fail.all steel brake lines need to be replaced to make vehicle safe to drive.

Rear brake lines needed to be replace due to corrosion in june 2012.now the front brake lines need to be replaced due to corrosion july 2013.i purchased this vehicle new in 2000.

Brakes failed, had to drive off the road in fear of hitting car in front of me. Corroded rear brake lines, rear brake line blew out.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban. The contact started the ignition and the brake pedal extended to the floorboard without warning when it was depressed. The failure recurred four times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake cable failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.

My family and i (2 adults and 2 children) along with 2 other boys (age 14) were driving down a hill and experienced a complete brake failure. My husband attempted to stop at a light and discovered that the brakes were inactive. The road declined steeply for some time and it was a nightmare as he tried everything (e.g., shifting to lower gear, emergency brake, park) to stop the car. As we were close to a major highway and river, my husband had no choice but to stop the car by crashing into an embankment. Given the speed of the vehicle, it was a horrific crash. I'm still recovering from multiple broken bones. My son had to have extensive surgery on his face. We are lucky to be alive. It appears brake failure in this age and model of chevy is not uncommon and the company is aware of this problem. How can they stand aside and risk so many lives? one month prior to the crash, our car had passed its annual inspection at a chevy dealership. No brakes issues were identified. Between the mental and physical chores of recovering, it has taken me this long to gather the energy to write this complaint. Owners should band together to submit a class action lawsuit. Chevy needs to be held accountable. Our family is lucky to be here. We will never purchase another chevy vehicle again.

Steel brake lines along rear differential corroded and failed resulting in loss of brake fluid and braking actions.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban. While driving approximately 4 mph on dry road surfaces, the abs engaged when the brake pedal was depressed. The failure recurred whenever coming to a stop. In 2005, the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, the contact had not experienced a failure at the time. Theremedy was insufficient and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.updated 04/08/16*lj

I was traveling down a city street in philadelphia taking my young kids to daycare, when i had to come to an abrupt stop to avoid a vehicle making an illegal u-turn. The truck would not stop the brake pedal went to the floor then slowly brought the vehicle to a stop. I had the truck towed into a repair facility and was told by the mechanic my suburban was the third in two day period to come in with ruptured brake lines due to corrosion. This matter needs to be addressed before someone is seriously hurt or killed. I just arrived home a week prior from vacationing with my entire family in this vehicle. My vehicle has been routinely checked and serviced by bryner chevy in jenkin town pa. I was never informed my brake lines were corroded.

I was sitting in my driveway and i pressed on the brake to engage reverse when the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.this is not a normal braking for our suburban.brake fluid was added to the brake fluid compartment and brakes were re-tested; brake pedal continued to go to floor.further investigation of the vehicle outside the suburban found brake fluid leaking from brake line when brake pedal was engaged.

When approaching an intersection today the traffic light turned red and when i depressed the brake pedal it collapsed to the floor causing me to run the light and pass into the intersection. I thank my lucky stars that nobody was injured. My wife and child were terrified, as was i, but we managed to pass through unharmed.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while entering a parking spot at an unknown speed, smoke emitted from the front passenger tire. The contact also mentioned that there was a brake fluid leak. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was found that the brake lines were corroded. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 238,000. The vin was not available.

While driving at 30 miles per hour applied the brakes and brake pedal became soft and went to the floor.the vehicle barely came to a stop before i hit anything.no warning lights or messages appeared before this happened.found brake fluid leaking from rusted metal tubing on frame just behind driver's side front wheel.

The brake pedal went all of the way to the floor while i was in traffic going about 20 mph. I was able to stop my suburban without hitting the car in front of me by putting the car in 2nd gear and using the emergency brake. There were no warnings lights or messages in the message center before or after this happened. The brake line burst along the frame rail at a spot approximately between the front and rear driver's side door.

I was driving on york road in maryland going about 35 miles per hour when the car in front of me suddenly stopped. I pressed on the brake pedal but it went straight to the floor. Fortunately i had kept a good distance between my car and the car in front of me. My vehicle came to a stop about half and inch away from the car in front. After this i had to pull over and take the vehicle to the dealer. Dealer found that the brake lines had rusted and brake fluid was leaking hence the reason for the car not braking properly.

I started my suburban like any other day, step on brakes to release the shifter, put into drive with no problem,i went onto the highway aka freeway with no problem,i needed to make a panic stop, and the brake pedal went straight to the floor, trying to use the emergency brake pedal, that also failed.. When did a american made product like the chevy suburban gat such a cheap manufacturing of brake components... My previous car, 1987 volkswagen vanagon camper never needed steel brake lines replaced. The rubber hoses i can understand... But steel brakes lines should last longer than 25 yrs.

I was traveling at 40 mph when traffic stopped ahead.applied brakes but brake pedal depressed to the floor with only very minor braking.avoided accident by using emergency brake and swerving on to the right shoulder. There was no warning on the instrument panel of low brake fluid, lack of braking capacity or any other pending brake malfunction.after getting vehicle safely home a visual inspection revealed a major loss of brake fluid from the master cylinder and brake fluid leaking from above the vehicle frame, below the drivers side floor board.major corrosion has occurred in the vicinity of the leak.although this is a 2000 vehicle, it only has 74,480 mile of use.an internet search reveals that an nhtsa action number : ea11001 has been established for similar complaints.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban.the contact stated a routine maintenance he was notified that the brake line was corroded. My husband was backing our suburban down the driveway (a hill) when he completely lost braking. Pedal went to the floor and vehicle wasn't slowing. Emergency brake was ineffective. He turned into a bush at the bottom of the hill and ran it over, and that plus level road slowed him enough that he was able to stop and drive back up the driveway. There is a trail of brake fluid all the way up on the left side.front brake lines were replaced 2-1/2 years ago due to corrosion.

Abs/brake light illuminates intermittently.dealer says brake control module must be replaced at cost of $1100.this is a potential safety issue and should be covered by warranty in my opinion as the abs system is inoperable when the light is on.i almost wrecked driving in rain on june 7, 2004 when applying brakes and rear locked up - not realizing abs was not operable.

2000 cherolet suburbanat slow speeds when braking the abs is activated, which increases my stopping distance. This creates the possibility ofhit something or more importantly someone.

We experienced problems with the brakes on our 2000 suburban last fall and took it in for work.we were told the rear rotors were completely rusted and would need replacement, and the front rotors required significant machining to repair.the brakes still weren't right, and we noticed the antilocks were kicking in even on slow dry stops.the dealer discovered the antilock unit was defective and replaced it.we've begun noticing 'grabbiness' in the brakes and took it back in.after only 10,000 miles since putting new rear rotors on, we again need new rotors.the first time we were told trucks from the northeast (we bought it at an upstate ny dealer) always needed new rotors because of all the salt.the truck has maybe been in ny for 20% of its lifespan.this most recent time we were asked if we had been trailing a boat in the outer banks.we were charged $800 the first time to repair this and now, 10,000 miles later we're being charged another $1200.

While driving on the highway, vehicle all of a sudden seized, consumer had vehicle towed and after diagnostics was performed,it was determined that it was an acuator problem.

Brake line blew. Front right.other lines looked corroded. Subsequent line blew 11/13/11.this line was from master cylinder and rendered brakes unusable immediately.

Dt*:the contact stated the dust shield to the rear brakes rusted and fractured.this was noticed during a routine inspection by the dealer.the dealer determined the rust was due to climate conditions and road salt.updated 5/11/2006 -as a result of the rusting dust shield, the inboard brake pad does not contact the disc resulting in a rusted disc on the inboard side.

I have had problems since day one on this suburban.most recently the two above.i checked the warranty work that was done on my suburban and it was over a page of claims.i just cannot remember the dates the items i checked occured. The fuel pump problem was long in the coming, they just didn't know what the problem was.i spent outside of warranty hundreds of dollars on the fuel system.this left us stranded 3 times!this last time cost me $765. Today, the abs sytem died.they say it's going to cost me close to a $1000 to repair. I purchased the suburban because it was safe to carry my wife and 7 kids.so far, we have been stuck on the road, lost vacation time and just can't feel safe anymore.now i don't have brakes.thanks for letting me vent.kent dold

From the day i picked up this truck new i complained about the rusty chassis.i was told it was surface rust and that it would not cause any problems.now the chassis is rusted to the point that i do not think the truck is safe.

My 2000 chevrolet suburban at low speeds (around 10 miles per hour)the abs braking system will engage for no reason. This action extends my stopping distance and on several occasions almost causes an accidents. I'm told it is a problem with the speed sensors on the front wheels.

Have had issues with anti lock brakes on 2000 chevy suburban. Twice have had it in for service for low speed antilock brake failure. 10/27/2010 brakes failed at 50 mph and resulted in crash. Investigation thus far shows no faults on system computer and mechanic has been unable to duplicate incident. Weather at time of incident was light mist and road was not slippery.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban.while driving approximately 15 mph, the abs warning light illuminated when the contact applied pressure to thebrake pedal.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they were unable to diagnose the cause of the failure.on a separate occasion, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for an identical failure, but they could not locate the cause of the failure.the failure mileage was 78,000 and current mileage was 85,000.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban.while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle began to pulsate when the brake pedal was depressed.prior to the failure, the abs warning light illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they could not determine the cause of the failure.on a separate occasion, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for an identical failure, but there were no resolutions.the failure mileage was 78,000 and current mileage was 85,000.

I was recently informed by mechanic as i took my vehicle in for inspection that it could not be passed due to "emergency brake" issue.i do not use my emergency brake yet the rear rotors and brake shoes have worn beyond use.i was also informed by the mechanic that 3 out of 4of their customers who own the same make/model of vehicle (2000 chev suburban) have had the same problem.although i am not aware of any "safety recall" i am curious to know if any others have complained.because i was not aware that my brakes were wearing, this could have possibly resulted in an accident when i may have needed to use them.also informed that the brake issue could cause poor fuel efficiency.not good in this day & time (gas is too expensive.).any help/info you could advise at this point is greatly appreciated.thank you in advance for your help. /tm.

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban. While driving approximately 10 mph he applied the brakes and the pedal depressed to the floor. The vehicle continued to move forward momentarily before stopping.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where he was told that the brake lines ruptured.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileages were 126,000.the vin was unavailable.

2000 chevrolet suburban.consumer writes in regards to reimbursement for recall claim denied.the consumer stated he had the hub assemblies and sensors replaced by a certified mechanic due to the speed sensors being rusted. The consumer stated he had them replaced, for much less than the dealer would have charged.

Intermittentlybrake pedal fails.brake pedal didn't respond when applied to slow down or braking. Vehicle was going 25-35mph.dealer was notified, anddiagnostic reading couldn't determine the cause.please provide more information.

Abs would improperly engage when apply brakes at speeds of 5-7 mph causing longer braking distances.

Dt:the consumer stated the abs did work. On friday 7-15-05 three deer ran out in front of her and she slammed on her brakes and the car skidded. This has happened in the past. The abs kicks in when she comes to a stop. No lights come one. She did take it to a dealer and no codes displayed.the consumer saw on t.v. About a possible recall on the abs. She noticed problems with the abs when she bought the car but it has became progressively worse. It does not matter what speed she is going, it has happened when she was going 55, 35, 15 and other speeds. It occurs during normal braking and emergency braking. The pedal goes all the way to the floor.

Dt: the contact states there isnhtsa recall campaign 05v379000 concerning anti lock brakes.this vehicle had thesameproblemsas indicated in the recall, but wasnot included in the recall due tovin. The contact repaired the vehicle at his own expense.

The consumer stated when the brakes were applied, the abs activated. The dealer found the left front speed sensor dropped out at 8 mph, the left front hub bearing was replaced.also, the air bag light illuminated on the dashboard, the dealer found the air bag opened and ordered a driver side air bag.

Due to a malfunction within the abs braking system, upon depressing the brake pedal, service brakes pulsated which caused extended stopping distances.

2000 chevy suburban.anti-lock brakes activating under dry normal conditions causing longer stopping distances.investigated nhtsa website and found future recall notice relating to this condition.presented vehicle to dealer to fix problem.dealer performed recommended fix, but this did not remedy condition, in fact it may have exacerbated the problem.dealers only recommended solution was to replace the front wheel hubs containing the anti-lock sensors at a cost of $850.dealer indicated that it has had to replaced numerous hubs for the exact same problem on theses vehicles and that chevy has not taken responsibility for any of these services under warranty or recall status.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 10 mph or less the abs activated.the independent repair shop determined the abs sensor and hub needed to be replaced.there is a nhtsa recall, # 05v379000, regarding the abs.the vehicle had the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the vin. Anti-lock braking system (abs) traction control module failure.

Recall on the abs activation wheel sensors was performed and i still having the same problem with the brake system and they want to charge me more to work on the car. I feel that they never fix the problem with the system and the car is still having brake problem at low speed and in parking lots and we are afraidthat we are going to have a crash in the car. I would like them to look at it again and fix the abs system they should work to stop the car.

I have a chevrolet suburban 2000 k1500. My rear brakes the dust platesrustthrough andlarge parts of the plate are missing.should these dust plate rust and break in only four years?

Hard stopping on my 2000 suburban 2500 4x4, felt like you were not going to get stopped, there was a very soft brake pedal and normal stopping distance was increased dramatically. Inspecting the brakes & rotors revealed extreme rust on inside of rotor and only a fraction of the brake pad was contacting the rotor. I replaced all 4 rotors & brake pads which corrected the problem. I still have all of the defective parts.

Within 55,000 miles the rear brake pads have worn out twice.the front pads, which should wear more quickly, show little wear and are still the factory original.this causes reduced braking.

I took my 2000 suburban to the garage before leaving on vacation in june of 2004 both back rotors needed replaced. Both were so rusted they couldn't be machined. They had to be replaced. Then in july of 2005 before going on vacation both front rotors were rusted. They must be replaced also.because of the rotors being so rusted it caused the back brakes to become worn out and now they need to be replaced also.you spend over $35,000 dollars on a vehicle so you can be safe and havea safe vacation and before you leave it costs you hundreds of dollars.you would think that for the price you spend on these vehicles, that the company could at least use metal that would not rust and fall apart within 50,000 miles.

The emergency brakes on the car will not hold on even a slight grade. They have been adjusted multiple times, and recently i authorized re-lining the emergency brakes.i was told only one side was worn the other was like new, i have been told by the technicians that the design if faulty.only the automatic transmission park setting keeps my car from rolling down the hill.i'm not sure if this is a safety issue that would be addressed by nhtsb, but i wanted to log the complaint.dt

The contact owns a 2000 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated he noticed an unknown fluid leaking from underneath the vehicle. The dealer confirmed there was brake fluid leaking from the front driver and passengers side brake lines. The dealer advised the brake lines were leaking due to corrosion. The brake lines were replaced by the dealer and there were no additional failures. The contact believed the failure to be directly related to nhtsa action number pe10010 (service brakes, hydraulic: power assist: hydraulic: hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). The failure mileage was 140,000.

While trying to steer vehicle it is very hard. Dealer has been contacted.problem returned after repairs.please provide further information.

While drivinga rattling noise was heard in the steering column. Consumer scheduled an appointment with the dealer for repairs. The dealer discovered the intermediate shaft was loose and needed to be repacked.

Intermediate steering shaft was replaced before it failed due to noise heard while operating the vehicle.dealer reported to me that they had replaced several others under similar circumstances.

Dealer recently replace part (with no charge) but did not perform a front end alignment to ensure vehicle is safe. New part (9per the limited warranty) is good for 12 months after sale or replacement. Steering shafts should be designed for life vs failing after 18 months. Unsure of other 2000 suburban's but, this was a critical part of the vehicle and if not fixed surely would have caused and accident..

2000 suburban 2500 [xxx] - loss of steering and brakes at speed.my 73 year old father was driving my 4 year old daughter to school and was rounding a corner when the steering wheel became nearly impossible to turn and the brakes barely able to stop.he went straight midway through the turn and applied the brakes as hard as he could.luckily, no cars were approaching and he eventually stopped.i had the suburban towed to the dealer and was informed that a recall was in progress for my vehicle and the parts and labor would be replaced for free.i would have to put the repair on my visa and then be reimbursed.i called gm and they said they would send the reimbursement forms.they then called on march 17th and said that my vehicle was just outside the vin recall range but was in the same year and i would not be reimbursed.my concern is that the parts that were recalled were in my vehicle but gm claims that my vehicle is not affected.here is the recall description from gm - "the hydraulic pump driveshaft can fracture in the 98,221 vehicles mentioned, which causes immediate loss of power steering assist and can result in loss of braking assist". The repair was over $600 but more importantly, many of the vehicles with the bad parts (like mine) will not be recalled and someone could easily be killed ( a pedestrian, a head on crash, etc).we're talking about catastrophic steering and brake failure at the same time!normally, i'm not too caring about this stuff and i regard it as someone elses problem but i don't want this blood on my hands if i don't do something about it. Popping noise coming from front, always hear this noise when turning ,left or right.noise started when vehicle had about 38,000 miles on it and has progressively gotten worse.

Continued intermittent popping noise with steering, loss control twice, involved in accident 04/22/00,popping was evident prior to accident but not reported because the suburban was new and we thought it was the wear in of a bracket, lemon law procedure filed and arbitration tentatively scheduled for 01/29/01.gm's position is the popping and steering problems are directly related to the accident.our position is evidenced by the fact that nt.pt chevroletadvised us to begin lemon law and invoices detailing warranty repair and internal charges for repairs to the linkages., the accident damage was only cosmetic with no compromise to the frame or engine.the popping noise has now become a rattling noise and rattling vibration in the steering column not necessarily resultant of turning.

2000 chevrolet suburban, sliding sunroof (option cf5 i think) - annoying gurgling noise comes from this area during rain and while driving approximately 30 mph or faster.dealer has worked on problem for past 3 years periodically - always "unable to duplicate" until recently.they rerouted water drain tube in roof area to eliminate problem with no improvement.gm needs to find a solution.*la

Rear back glass is detaching itself from the molding that holds the window to the hinges of the vehicle. I had the local chevrolet dealer look at the window and they told me that it was normal wear and tear.i know that this is not normal for a vehicle of this age,(only 4 years old when problem found).nothing has been done to fix this but i think that there should be a recall by gmc since i've talked with body shops in this area and this is not the first time they have seen this type of problem.for safety if this window were to separate while you are driving it may possibly cause a mishap on the road.

Have had the car in the shop 4 differant occasions for clicking or knocking noise from front and rear end when turning the wheel.....still not fixed.

Vehicle was taken to dealer for a loud noise that could be heard from the right front wheel when the wheel was turned hard to the right, the dealership would fix this by greasing the steering stops, however after a couple hundred miles the problem would return, a service rep informed consumer that the area of the suspension was metal on metal and would need to be frequently lubricated because there was no way to retain grease on those parts.

As i was driving, i hear a noise coming from outside and could feel roughness in the ride and the steering. I pulled over within 30 seconds to find that my tire was 80 % flat. Upon replacing the tire isaw that there was no evidence of puncture or nails to the tire. Afew minutes later after i had put my spare tire on, i stopped and inflated the flat tire to see where the damage might be. After inflating to about 10 psi i stopped because i noticed that the sidewall near the outside edge(near tread) had a very soft spot that i could have probably pushed my finger through. It was almost as soft and thin as a inner tube. Then i also noticed several lumps about 1 to1 1/2 inches in diameter almost all the way around the tire casing near the outer edge. This was all on the white letter side of the tire. I briefly look at the back side but did not notice anything. All the time i never heard an air leak, although an hour later it was flat again. As i stated earlier i only put appx. 10 psi. When i saw the knots appear i stoped in fear of the casing rupturing. It definitley appears to be an internal problem such as belt or ply separation. Before i contact chevrolet or firestone i wanted to bring this to your attention since i think this might be related to the current problem the the other recalled tires and did not want the evidence(my tire)possibly lost or destroyed with you having a chance to see it if you wish. Non the less i now need a spare, so i have to do something soon. I will keep the defect though. I really do not want to put another firestone on mytruck.until today i thought the problem was only on the 235 tire.me and my family need your help to assure us that my firestones are safe or should i be looking for another tire. Please advise soon as possible. Thanksgeorge( dot number: v672wli070 tire size: 265/70r16 )

Tire had bubble that was caught before it failed.(tiresize: p265/70r16)

While driving with my 3 children and preagnant wife we experienced a total failure of the left rear tire. I was traveling about 80mph, i heard a repeating thud which sounded like the thud produced when driving over expansion joints, however, i noticed it was louder than typical and didn't coincide with expenation joint timing.i took my foot off the gas and began to slow down by coasting.all this transpired in about 4 to 10 seconds.then bang, we hear a loud noise, and our vehicle rear drops.i looked behind me and i see tread and peices of tire flying everywhere.i coasted for a few seconds, not wanting to upset the balance of the vehicle and then gently applied the brakes.we stopped.the only thing left on the rim were the two side walls.there wasn't any tread left.i have since retrived the tread.the tread is separated from the carcus of the tire.i assume this is the repeating thud sound i heard.then the tire carcus and tread ripped completely from the side walls.my rim is scratched and dented.gm says this cost $480.tire is obviously gone.about 2,000 miles earlier i had firestone, check, and rotate tires on the vehicle and after the incident i checked the other tires and tire pressures where 35psi +or - 2psi.upon examination of the tread that came off tire it can be seen that there is a puncture which looks like a nail or screw penetrated the tire.my gm dealership is saying that this caused the tire pressue to go down and i drove on it so it got hot and this caused the faulure.i believe that the tire may have lost some pressure, but i think it was probably a slow leak.my wife and i didn't notice a low tire by the way the vehicle was handling.it is my belief that the low pressure may have precipitated the tire failure, but the tire was defective because it shouldn't have failed so catastophically with only a minor tire pressure loss.if the tire would have been almost flat, then we would not have felt the vehicle drop.

Both left and right rear power windows inoprable.

Rear power windows fail to work consistently.will work if you bang by the speaker grills.replaced a few months after purchase and started again.65,000 miles.was told gm has changed the configuration of the motor but i would have to pay for the new ones.*la

Vehicle was equipped with power windows. The power mechanism failed, and windows did not work. There was a short in the battery. There was a bad cell. Also, there was a short in the fuel pump module. It had to be replaced.

Windows don't always come down when consumer pushes window button control or main control, possible wiring failure which causes the inside light dims when the window buttons are pushed.

Center hub of factory alloy wheel (left front) has 2 visible radial cracks. The vehicle is currently at the dealer for service and gm is replacing the cracked wheel and checking the other 3.*nlm

At the end of a 1320 mile (round) trip from fairfax, virginia to brunswick, georgia and back, the left front wheel hub suddenly disassembled, locking up the wheel and sending my 2000 chevrolet suburban out of control.fortunately, i had left i-95, wher i had been travelling for 10 1/2 hours at 70 mph, and was travelling on a side road.there was no warning.the wheel made a loud, grinding noise and then immediately locked up.upon having the vehicle towed to the local chevrolet dealer for repair, the technicians examined the wheel and found no apparent reason why the wheel should have disassembled itself.i see no other option other than a defect in the product.considering the way that the vehicle handled when this happened, i am sure that if it had happened 10 minutes earlier, while i was travelling on i-95 at 70 mph, the vehicle would hve careened out of control causing maximum damage to the vehicle and serious injury to myself and family.coincidentially, i had the vehicle serviced just the day before at the local chevrolet dealer in brunswick, georgia, and had requested that the front end be examined prior to the long drive ahead and due to a rattle that i had noticed.it had also been checked approximately 3 weeks prior.i was advised that there was nothing other than lubrication that needed to be done in the drive shaft.there was nothing unusual noticed with the wheels, etc.the final note in this situation is that i have paid $570.80 for this defect to be repaired, and been without my vehicle for a week.again, this was a very dangerous occurance, even at a slower speed than i had travelled at all day long.

My 3 yr old son has received 2nd degree burns to 3 of his fingers from reaching through the rim of our suburban. I would like to see all car makers to make the rims differently so little fingers do not get into danger! i have called gm as of 10-13-05. I would like to see some type of guard placed on all rims to prevent this from happening to someone else. Please contact me to advise me of your findings.

Original wheel has a crack going through the entire rim.no external damage to the rim just a crack that appears to be ready to cause complete failure of the rim.i have pictures of the cracked wheel which is very scarey when you imagine our family of 6 driving at 65-70 mph while on vacation.i have kept the wheel for review by anyone that would like to see it in hopes that if there is a problem, this might help avoid unnecessary problems.the crack appears to have been there for some time as it is not a clean metal appearance.it is filled with what appears to be road dirt and looks as if it has been there for a while.
