The front airbag sensor has failed and the airbags are no longer operable.this appears to be an issue with the year and model of chevy truck.this should be a recall item due to its impact on safety.given the low mileage there is no legitimate reason for this part to fail.

For approximately the last 4 years the airbag light has been on indicating an issue with the airbag system.given all the airbag problems in recent years and the fact this seems to be a common problem with 2005 gm suvs and given airbags are vital safety equipment gm needs to provide owners with these problems a free fix or be forced to recall these vehicles immediately for repairs before alot of people get hurt or killed.

I turned my 2005 suburban on and the air bag light came on.i took it in to the chevy/gm dealer who said, "the right, front, air bag sensor was the cause." it would cost $375 to fix it. I did not get it fixed at that time. It is dangerous because the air bags are inoperable. The problem occurred at about 150,000 miles. From what i have seen this is a huge problem that needs to be address by the company.

Air bag sensor has failed causing the airbags to be rendered inoperable.

Vehicle was in shop one time all ready because air bag light came on. Took in for service they said loose ground all fixed.then on 9/11/2006 i was involved in an accident. A driver failed to yield while making a left turn. I hit him broad side at 45 miles per hour.smashed front end of my vehicle, smashed the side of his vehicle in buckling his dash and his vehicle flipped on its side.my air bags did not deploy on the vehicle.i contacted gm and they said everything is ok,they sent out a person to investigate and he states that everything is ok. But at the scene of the accident every police officer did not believe me when i told them the air bags did not deploy, nor did the paramedic, they had to go look for themselves and see because they thought that they should have gone off.i have pictures of both vehicles if you should need them.i feel there is a safety defect.

2005 chevrolet suburban 1500 4x4 flex fuel, 5.3l. This vehicle's instrument cluster does not work. Tachometer pegs and sticks. The speedometer is stuck at zero. This is a very serious safety concern that general motors/gm should do a free recall for as many owners of this vehicle have the same problems.my abs sensor light comes on and off numerous times a day, and cluster states service air bag. General motors should also fix this for free under a recall as others have the same issue with this vehicle.my third major complaint, is the vehicle starting problem/hard start. It takes two turns of the engine for the vehicle to turn on and stay running.i have researched this on various search engines, forums, and including recall.gov.general motors should address this issues as well under a recall. Gm installed faulty fuel pumps or fuel pumps with faulty components in them. A vehicle should start with one try.i should not have to get the fuel pressure going in the on position, or crank it twice for my truck to start.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban 1500.upon purchasing the vehicle in october of 2008, the air bag warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel.the dealer failed to repair the air bags at the time of purchase.the contact could not have the vehicle registered in the state of texas with the warning indicator illuminated.the dealer denied all liability for the repairs to the air bag.the failure mileage was 80,000 and current mileage was 85,000.updated 05/18/09. *ljupdated 05/20/09.

Had to replace the sensor for the air bag.this should have been covered by general motors.i know that a lot of people would not have this problem fixed due to the cost.when the service air bag light comes on it deactivates the air bags.this is a major safety issue.we have a 2000 chevrolet tahoe in out family that has not had this problem.i feel there needs to be a recall.

Just got into my 2005 chevy suburban 1500. The speedometer stop working. Registering 100mph while i was at a stop light, not working at all while i drove back to the house. There is a lawsuit for 2004 models and only up to 70,000miles. This is a cluster failure affecting thousands of suburban, tahoe, and similar model owners. The dealerships are charging an average of $450.00 to repair this defect that, judging from the lawsuit is a common problem. It affects my monitoring of my speed and endangers the public and also puts drivers in a bad position with law enforcement. Gm is obligated to repair a problem that they had knowledge of. There are too many of these vehicles on the road to allow this defect and potential safety issue to go unchecked.

I have a 2005 chevy suburban with about 55,000 miles on it.for the past 6-8 months, my speedometer and other gauges (oil, etc.) will stick causing inaccurate readings.at times my speedometer is about 30 mph off from the real speed, and for the months the oil gauge has read off the charts.

My daughter was driving down the road and speedometer began acting erratically.at a stop light speedometer reads 25 mph. Ignition was turned on/off with no results.

2005 chevy suburban the speedometer just went out @ 42,600k miles.

Speedometer shows 110 mph when cars are passing me.i believe am going about 55 or 60 mph.i understand the problem is with the instrument cluster in the dashboard.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated he noticed while driving 30 to 40 mph that the speedometer read 120 mph, and when driving 70mph the speedometer read 0 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed. The dealer advised the contact that the instrumental cluster panel failed. The manufacturer advised that because the vehicle was over the extended warranty coverage, they would not assist with the repair. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 69,000.

Speedometer not working properly, even when the car is stop it show 70 mph.

The speedometer in my 2005 chevrolet suburban has developed a ticking noise in the past few days. The vehicle has 83, 300 miles. It started as a low clicking noise and has continued to become louder. I have contacted the local chevrolet dealership, which gave me no satisfaction for repairs.

We have a 2005 chevrolet suburban with 50,000 miles.our instrument cluster is not working properly.speedometer is stuck, other gauges (i.e. Fuel, oil, temp) work intermittently.i believe this is a huge safety issue for obvious reasons!the cost to fix this is $650 and after much research i see many complaints of the same nature!chevrolet has even recalled the 2003/2004 models for this reason!why not 2005?

2005 chevrolet suburban 1500 4x4 flex fuel, 5.3l. This vehicle's instrument cluster does not work. Tachometer pegs and sticks. The speedometer is stuck at zero. I was driving on a trip to florida when at 65 mph my speedometer kept increasing and pegged out at the 120 mph mark. I pulled over to try and resolve the issue but to no avail it stayed stuck at the 120 mph mark. When i restarted the vehicle all my cluster gauges were pegged out: oil, battery, temp, and even gas gauge. I also started getting info that my airbag system needed attention. Four wheel drive light came on just a different array of malfunctions came flying across my display. To this date my battery gauge is still pegged out my airbag light is on, service four wheel drive light still flashes inadvertently and now my drivers side heater and controls are not working correctly. Brought in to repair shop & they said no recall has been issued so my cost would run well over $1500.00.ridiculous. Own up chevy fix this.

I noticed corroded and what i would call charred or burnt wiring on the wiring harness for the rear lift gate of my suburban.i noticed it when i opened the lift gate to gain access to the rear of the suburban.it appears that the rubber grommet material protecting the wiring harness, was burnt or melted away. The rubber hose that supplies water to the rear window washer/wiper had a hole in it, and may have been leaking windshield washer fluid onto the wires for a time.the wires were bare in some spots, some of the wire insulation looked melted/burnt away, and they looked corroded/with a green color to them.the connector that connectsthe harness, to the rest of the electrical system, looked like it has some black/ possibly burnt residue on it.i can take a guess at best, that because of the hole in the rubber hose, water may have been leaking onto the electrical wiring/connectionswhen i used this feature to clear dirt from the lift gate window, but i don't really know for sure if that is how the damage to the wiring harness has occured!thanks!

Speedometer on our 2005 surburban has been malfunctioning like all others reported on this site - ours for well over two years: sometimes reads zero when driving at highway speeds, other times is tacked at over 120 mph.we can be at a stop and it reads 90.afraid to use cruise control - who knows what will happen!waiting for nhtsa to demand a recall these vehicles: what will it take? someone dying because they hydroplane, or roll, or rear end someone because they have no clue how fast they are going?

Electrical cluster speedometer went haywire then quit odometer did the same.

At 99k miles the speedometer started acting erratic. There are times it is correct and times when it reads 5 to 25 miles more than my traveling speed. It is definitely hit or miss as to when this will occur. Now the oil pressure gauge and the rpm gauge are acting faulty as well. I have not taken any measures to correct the speedometer but it will reset itself after several times of turning the car on an off. This is definitely a safety hazard when the speedometer reads errantly while driving on the interstate.

2005 chevy suburban speedometer failure.while driving highway speed speedometer stopped indicating correct speed, indicated 120 miles per hour.speedometer is not working at all.

The driver side seat heater randomly turns itself on. When you turn it off it comes back on again and randomly cycles through the various settings. It's almost a constant battle trying to keep it turned off which creates a hazardous situation equal to, or worse, then texting while driving as you have to keep looking down to push the button, especially here in florida where you don't need (or want) seat heat in the summer. I've fought this to the point that i've worn the paint off the switch. If you search the internet this is a very prevalent problem with gm vehicles during these model years. I also have a 2006 gmc sierra that does the exact same thing. I've been to at least 5 different dealerships and either they can't fix it or they claim they've never heard of the problem. That can't be true since gm issued a tsb for this problem but the recommended fix (reprogramming the driver door switch) actually does not fix the problem. In fact, when the dealer reprogrammed my gmc it actually made it worse to where it happens much more frequently. I contacted gm and even though i took it to a dealer 4-5 months ago where they couldn't fix it, gm says i have to take it back to the dealer (pay another $100 diagnostic fee) to meet their policy that they will only address the issue if you've been to a dealer within the last 30 days. Some reports are the seat heater elements are shorting out. Either way this creates a very unsafe situation for drivers. Gm says i can pull the fuse for the seat heaters. However, when you remove the fuse labeled "seat heater" it actually does nothing. The seats are still powered and the problem persists. This clearly indicates an electrical problem and design flaw. The only sure cure is to remove the 30 amp breaker under the dash rendering your driver/passenger inoperative. Gm must fix this problem before someone gets killed from being distracted.

Speedometer very erratic, shows excessive speeds (120mph) or doesn't register correct speed at all. Called dealer numerous times about problem and never told about the tsb only that it would be over $600 to fix. Did research online and found tsb and called again. This is a huge safety hazard and one that chevrolet should address across the board with the vehicles affected by this. Then was told can't fix it because of mileage unless i pay out of pocket. Now needle is stuck at zero and unfortunately being military we don't get paid enough to just shell out $600+ on a whim. Someone needs to make chevrolet take care of their faulty products, if you pay for a premium product you should get one.

Instrument cluster failure.gauges not accurate. I was told instrument cluster would need to be replaced at my cost.

A/c system would randomly blow hot air; then fan would run with ignition off; then fan speeds would quit working; finally blower quit altogether.gm has 2 service bulletins out with exact problem description, but they claim my vehicle not covered.

On a highway trip home, the speedometer got stuck at 73mph and steadily increased in speed until it just points directly downward.it stays facing downward and doesn't move at all no.the chevy dealers also say that there is a recall but our cars vin number doesn't meet the recall.they agree chevy should repair the vehicle.when i contacted chevy, they told me the would offer no assistance and to stop contacting them regarding the problem.

We own a 2005 chevy suburban, and the speedometer began to jump around and act erratically.it now shows about 60 mph, even though the vehicle is at a stop.goes up above 120 mph while driving through town.we called the dealership, and just like others reported, was told we were going to be taken for over $600 for a repair that is occurring in virtually every 2005 gm truck (along with other years).we can no longer tell what speed we are driving, which is a serious safety hazard, especially for my teenage drivers that drive this vehicle.

Speedometer does not work on my2005 chevrolet suburban 1500. Stopped working at about 60,000 miles - there should be a recall as this is a common problem on this vehicle and it costs approx. $500 to fix and it is a safety hazard.

I have a 2005 chevrolet suburban z71 with 59,799 miles. The speedometer on it recently stopped working correctly. The day the speedometer stopped working correctly i was on an hour long trip on the highway. During the trip i noticed the speedometer showed i was going 95 mph. The speedometer continued to increase even when i slowed down, until it passed 120 mph where it was stuck for several days.it started to slowly go back down. Since that day then the speedometer continues to show the incorrect speed of the vehicle. The speedometer sometimes reads as high as 120 mph when the vehicle is not moving, and at other times displays the vehicle going 10 mph when the vehicle is not moving, and other times shows correctly at 0 mph. The problem seems to get worse when i drive the vehicle on longer trips.i have contacted the local dealership and was told there is a recall to correct this problem but that my vin number is not included in the recall.

Speedometer operates erratically, sticks when changing speeds, or reads erroneously (e.g. 5 mph on the freeway doing 70 or 100 mph when parked).

In november, my speedometer on my 2005 suburban 1500 started fluctuating all over the place. Sometimes it doesn't even read on the numbers. Called dealer and they said their was a recall only up to 2004. I read on line that alot of people were having trouble with the cluster. Now in beginning of february my gas gage is reading wrong. Things on the instrument panel are not working right. This all started happening under 50,000 miles. My husband is laid off and we just don't have the money to fix it. Please help!!

While driving the speedometer began to give erratic readings, the needle bounced around and gave inaccurate information. This initial problem seemed to resolve itself when i stopped and turned the vehicle off and then restarted it. Since the initial incident the problem has been sporadic but becoming more frequent. The vehicle is currently scheduled for service.

2005 chevy suburban odometer is faulty.it stop working properly on my chevy truck. It overshoot the speed all the way to more than 120miles/hr when i do not go over 30miles/hr. Gm needs to take ownership of it. Needs to have recall. It is safety of general public. Please force them to recall for the odometer.

Speedometer stopped working on our 2005 chevy suburban. Started out going from 20 to 100 and not registering the proper speed. Now is stuck at 120 mph. Cost ranges from 300 to 1000 dollars to fix. Having to use gps for speed which is a distraction and safety concern.

Speedometer stick at 65mph, next time i start moving it moves up to 120 mps. Other times it stuck at various speeds. I depend on my speedometer to keep me safe. The first time it happened i almost crashed. Since then i have had a couple of close calls. If you can't rely on your speedometer it is very stressful anddangerous! " please help us fix this dangerous problem".thank you, michael j. Sanfilippo

The speedometer on my 2005 chevrolet suburban at 50k miles without warning started to indicate incorrect speeds. The speed readings initially were slower than my actual speed and later as the problem progressed much higher. The initial incorrect speeds were only noticed after friends following me questioned my high rate of speed. My wife drives my 4 children around in this vehicle.

I have a 2005 1500 chevy suburban that the speedometer reads erratic. It goes 120+ while at a red light or 25 cruising down the interstate. This has been going on for about 5 months now. I talk to the dealers and they say there is nothing they can do that i will have to pay the 600-900 dollars for the repairs. Not knowing how fast or slow you are going only guestamating is very dangerous for myself along with everyone else i share the road with.

Issue with instrument panel (including stereo, lights on panel, instrument gauges), power windows/locks & security system - randomly shuts off. Sometimes the odometer works and other times it does not.the instrument panel gauges all move to the left with the gas light coming on.the tire pressure monitor is activated.panel indicators come on (engine light, security system, seat belts, etc.).stereo system is completely off with no lights on the panel.the heater/ac system sometimes goes off also.the power windows and locks do not work during these times.

I have a chevy suburban 2005 my speedometer has stopped working. I also have a 2005 duramax that this has happened to. I would like to see a full blown recall placed on all gmc/chevy vehicles. Apparently these are hundreds of thousands people with this issue across the u.s./ world according to forums i have been on.while there is a class action lawsuit out there for a very limited group of gmc vehicles, making lawyers rich. Instead of taking care of the people whom make this world actually run.this issue needs to seriouslylooked into.my next step is to get the media involved showing how again the average consumer can get screwed by the big companies.i am not keeping my mouth shut about this.thank you

I received a letter stating that the speedometer of my model vehicle had a recall (2005 suburban).i misplaced the letter but decided to take my vehicle in to the dealership but was told that i had to pay $100 deductible. I'm not understanding why the speedometer can not be replaced without presenting the letter.

The speedometer needle began reading higher and higher speeds even though there was no acceleration. When sitting still, the speedometer read 70 mph. The needle will not return to zero, even when the vehicle is parked.i have contacted the dealer and was told it would cost $400.00 to $500.00 to repair. I cannot drive the vehicle, not knowing how fast i am going.

Defective speedometer, have contacted chevy on several occasions and they refuse to pay for cost.gm recalled same defect on other models except mine which is a 2005 chevy suburban.chevy told me my car exceeded all warranty due to mileage which is in the 80k range.this is a defective part and should be replaced no matter what miles i have on the car.currently this problem is intermittent so i'm never sure if speedometer is right or wrong.my teenager drives my car and is unable to know what actual speed he's driving.this is potentially dangerous and i cannot afford to repair myself.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban 1500.the contact stated that the instrumental panel clusters do not operate properly.while idling at a stop light, the speedometer gauge displayed 10-20 mph.the manufacturer issued a tsb for the 2001-2003 models, but not the 2005.the manufacturer and dealer would not repair the vehicle under the tsb.the instrumental panel was replaced in january of 2008 and the contact paid for the repair.he would like to be reimbursed by the manufacturer.the current mileage was 53,296 and failure mileage was 53,250.updated 04/16/08.*lj

We bought a 2005 chevrolet suburban in early 2006.in early 2008 the speedometer started to act up (bouncing, steadily decreasing until zero)we have just completed a long trip and the speedometer was not working for 4 hours.

Speedometer for chevrolet suburban 2005 no working properly, even when the car is stop the speedometer show 70 mph.

2005 chevrolet suburban48,500 milesspeedometer quit workingfrom what i have read online this is a problem with many 2005 chevy vehicles.

I have a 2005 chevy suburban. At a little over 49,000 miles my speedometer needle began to report inaccurate readings while the truck was in motion. After a couple of days the needle fell all the way to the right of the panel and wouldn't move. After getting quote from the dealership to replace new and checking with some area junk yards i learned there were possible recalls on other chevy trucks and suv's. Once i check on the internet and found numerous people experiencing the same problem. On tonight i called and learned that the 2004 suburban has a recall but not the 2005 so i opened a case with cheverolet consumer assistance to see about getting my truck fixed as i can't afford $500 to fix a mechanical defect which should be covered chevrolet expense and not the consumer. I'm now driving around not knowing what speed i'm driving and risking getting a speeding ticket which is another expense. I'm a single mother with 2 kids and this is my only means of transportation.

Instrument panelfailure. Speedometer stuck below 0 (zero). Tire pressure readings keep changingin minutes ranging20-46. Schedule for replacement of the instrument panel cluster and will cost $450-600.

While driving the speedometer jumped to 20 mph and never dropped back down.

I have a complaint about there not being a recall on my 2005 chevy suburban on the instrument panel and electrical components. Sometime earlier this year my speedometer started jumping to higher speeds as i was driving and then got to the point it was going all the way past 120mph. Sometimes it would reset to 0 after the vehicle was turned off. Most recently it has gone past 120 and will not return to the normal functions it should have. It is very dangerous not to know how fast you are going, however, like everyone else i cannot afford the $400-$600 to pay for something that is a manufactures defect obviously! with so many complaints listed exactly the same on this site, it has to be a manufactures defect. Besides the speedometer not working properly, all the instrument lights are starting to go out or not work. Such as the radio on/off switch no longer lights up. Some of the other radio lights do not light up. On the steering wheel, some of the controls do not light up.i cannot believe that i have received a letter letting me know others are also experiencing problems with their chevy vehicles and they have started a law suite. My vehicle is a 2005 model, but since i bought it in march 2005, so it must have been manufactured before jan 2005. The letter says it covers up to 2004 models and may later include the 2005 models.as i see it mine is doing exactly the same as everyone else and nothing is being done. Could someone explain what happens next? and when will chevy be responsible for all these complaints?

2005 chevrolet suburbanapprox. 64,000 milesi have a faulty reading speedometer, which i feel is a safety hazard.i never know how fast i am going.thankfully i have not had a accident or gotten a speeding ticket yet.i took it in to my mechanic, who tried replacing the speed sensor in the transmission, to no avail.i know there is a recall for 2003 & 2004 models.i tried calling the gm hotline and was told there are no recalls for 2005.i called a local dealer who told me the same thing.i don't know where to go from here.i would like to get it fixed before it reaches 70,000 miles.the dealer did ask if i was the original owner.i assume they would say if i wasn't, they would not fix it.i don't know what that should have to do with anything.what or where do i go from here?

2005 chevrolet suburban.failure of the abs / traction control computer (gm part no.15234605).failure occurred at 62,000 miles due to corrosion inside the module.

My 2005 chevrolet suburban z71 switches randomly and without specific cause into reduced engine power which nearly go me killed when merging into a high-speed interstate pulling a trailer. The only way to "fix" it (make the engine run normal again) is to pull to the side if the highway (dangerous!) and shut the truck off for a few minutes. This happen randomly but at least three times a day. I know others have this problem and gm says i have to bring it to then when this is occurring but i can't do that when the truck is barely limping along! this is a safety issue and is well documented on gm chat sites across the internet.

I was driving on the highway and looked down and the speedometer said 100! cars were passing me and i knew there was no way i was driving 100.once i got to my destination, sitting still the speedometer was at either 50 or 60.when in motion it usually reads about 105-115 when going between 60-70 mph. (i think, i really have no idea since my speedometer is broken!!!)i have just over 75,000 miles on a 2005 suburban 1500.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 50 mph on a dry highway in a passing situation,a light stating "reduced engine power" illuminated in the vehicle.the vehicle lost a majority of the engine power, and the tachometer would not pass 1200 rpms.the vehicle was not immediately taken in for service.

My 2005 k1500 suburban sustained a cracked head with 73,000 on the engine.the service department at my dealership has no information that a manufacturing problem exists.the repair cost over $2,000.this is not a normal occurrence or expected vehicle wear.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that the socket and wires for the rear brake light were melted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact notified a parts store and they stated that the part was on back order. The manufacturer was notified and stated that there were no recalls and advised the contact to continue looking for the part. The failure mileage was 190,000.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban 1500. While the contact was driving she smelled fuel. When she reached her destination, she noticed that fuel was spilling outside the vehicle onto the ground. Thirty seconds after turning the vehicle off, the fuel stopped leaking. The vehicle was taken to two repairs shops where the contact was informed that the fuel pressure line from the tank to the crossover and the motor had rubbed together which caused the failure to occur. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer who advised her to report the problem to nhtsa. The current and failure mileages were approximately 140,000.

Smelled fuel looked under vehicle and fuel was spraying out of fuel hose.immediately drove to dealer service department to be looked at.on the way the vehicle lost almost all remaining fuel.dealer is replacing parts at a great expense.

Gas smell when idling....took to dealer and they found the (flexible) fuel line leaking. They showed me the problem and it sure looked like the lines were crossed when they were installed, even the mechanic said something to that nature, but i will guarantee you he would never admit that......it is going to cost me $651.00 to have just one line replaced............the line wore a hole thru it where the lines were crossed and rubbing on each other.

My vehicle was manufactured with a defective fuel pump. I have had nothing but problems with the fuel gauge and delayed starts. I changed the pump and noticed the original pump was missing a spring on one of the push rods. The wear and tear made the pump hang. I have the pump and photos to deliver. This pump is a flex fuel pump. There are so many posts on this delayed start issue. I have recently posted the cause of my issue. I noticed the defect immediately because i performed the repair and not the dealer. They were quick to offer me a quote for over a thousand dollars to replace a defective part.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated the rear liftgate power lock mechanism became inoperable and prevented an occupant from entering or exiting from the rear. The vehicle was not designed with a manual key lock feature. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000. The vin was unavailable.

I own a 2005 chevrolet suburban, the rear lift gate has a window that is incorporated into the lift gate and can be opened independently there are plastic hinges attaching the glass to the lift gate and one of the two hinges failed and is broken. I have searched the forums on this issue and it appears to be widespread and chevrolet wants $1000.00 to replace the glass with the defective hinge.

Under any conditions, the shift lever position indicator located in the instrument cluster does not illuminate. Which does not allow the driver to know which gear the vehicle is in. Which increases the drivers chances of crashing.

The auto transmission 3 and 4th gear clutch failed in this unit which research shows is a common failure.when the transmission was opened for the repair there were two parts that showed a lot of rust which indicated an exposure to water.i would not be writing this if the transmission shop had not shown me a chevy avalanche transmission they had just came in with the same parts showing the rust pattern.both transmissions were made in the ramos, mexico gm factory in within a short time frame.this is major concern if the transmission had failed on an interstate and the loss of speed could have been catastrophic like an accident locally in lowndes county, ms where a crown victoria was hit from behind when something failed in that car and slowed down.two people lost their life.

I was driving with my two young children in the car and my car made a clicking sound and then begin to shake and vibrate.then all of a sudden it made a really loud noise that sounded like the bottom of the car fell onto the road and was being dragged along and the it would not go anymore.i tried putting it in park and it would not stop, it rolled backwards until i put the emergency brake on and turned it off.i had it towed to mechanic who informed me the drive shaft broke in two.it was a very scary incident with my two small children in the car.they were crying inconsolably and scared.i would like to know why this happened and if there is some kind of defect in the 2005 chevy suburban that caused this.

Had serviced the transfer case and had taken it back twice now besides a noise like that of a power steering pump going bad ( whining ) ,had a turningclunk noise coming and at a stop light i saw smoke coming from passenger side, got to park it and smelled like something is burning .bring it back to see if the mechanic will work on it since it hasn't been 30 days.please notify me of anything do to the transfer case.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the gear shifted into neutral independently. The engine was turned off and restarted. The vehicle resumed in the four wheel drive mode. The failure occurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic twice where the shift gear actuator was replaced. On a separate occasion, the push button gear selector was also replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

Transmission hot light came on as traveling the interstate. Pulled over until light went out. Left the interstate, light came on again. As trying to pull off road, truck stopped (engine on, but would not advance forward). Had to replace with another transmission.

My 2005 suburban chev.has 46,000 and the transmission will not shift between 3rd and 4th gear.the dealer said this is fairly normal to happen.it is not included in the power train warranty.the cost to repair is $3000.00 to $4000.00. The car started making an awful noise, the instrument panel said transmission hot.when i pushed on the accelerator the car would not go it just made an awful noise.thank god i was on a road i could pull over on.the car had to be towed in to the dealer.i have a $50,000 car that can't be driven.is this a common problem to 2005 suburban?

Transmission needed to be replaced with a rebuilt transmission @ 51,100 miles.children and other passengers were stranded in pa @ 12:00 am.

Transmission failure.as i began accelerating from a stop, in order to make a left turn across opposing traffic lanes, i had a complete failure of forward momentum.the vehicle behind me narrowly missed a rear end accident and opposing traffic was forced to quickly stop as i was left blocking their traffic lane.vehicle still under warranty with 25,122 miles.dealer repaired transmission and identified "sprag gear found damaged ... Clutches also burnt replaced as needed...".possible tsbs 08-07-30-027.

Dt*: the contact stated that the vehicle was built with water inside the transmission.the service dealer determined it was rain water. The transmission was cleaned and completely resealed.a cowl water deflector was added to solve this issue in the future.updated 9/18/2006 -

My 2005 suburban the drive shaft was broken at only about 40 mph.if it happened on highway, probally will cause an accident because i has lost the control totally.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban 1500.the driver side shoulder seat belt in the center row will not retract and appears to be jammed.the failure occurred 100 miles after the warranty expired.the dealer has not been notified.nhtsa campaign id number 05v163000 (seat belts:rear) was referenced.the current mileage was 42,000 and failure mileage was 35,900.

Front brake line failure/brake line rupture. 6 months ago it was the rear brake line failure/rupture. Brake fluid caused smoke and small fire on the exhaust headers.

I had a rusted brake line (driver side front) fail june 25th, 2017. This truck is 12 years old and has less than 90,000 miles. Immediately all braking was lost and the pedal pushed to the floor. Repeated pressing the brake only pumped out all the brake fluid. This was a sudden and catastrophic loss of braking. The worst part is, braking is supposed to be split and independent between front and rear brakes, so if you lose the front, the rear brakes still work, and vice versa. Well i lost all braking, i had no front or rear braking! this should be a clear safety problem and a mandatory recall!i crashed into the car in front of me, because of course my emergency brake didn't work either. Despite gm's insistence that somehow this premature brake line failure is normal and the owner's maintenance problem, it should be a very simple issue for the nhtsa to simply open a single brake line and test to realize the affected vehicles do in fact lose all braking, not just front or rear. I've already completely lost faith in gm to do the right thing, but i'd like to believe the nhtsa will still do the right thing, and not let gm off with a clear safety problem with their brake design.this crash was pulling up to the stoplight in prescott, wi, heading into town across the prescott bridge. I was driving maybe 30 mph when i realized i had lost all brakes.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban 1500. While driving in reverse, the contact was unable to stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal. The contact had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard in order to stop the vehicle. The mechanic stated that the brake lines were rotted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.

Went to move vehicle to attach landscape trailer. Brakes went down to the floor. Upon investigation, found brake fluid on ground from driver side right front. Had vehicle towed to repair station and asked mechanic to replace brake line and check all other brake lines. Mechanic ended up replacing 80% of lines due to corrosion. This could have ended up resulting in an accident if the vehicle was moving with the trailer attached carrying atv's. In addition, the cable holding the spare tire had to be cut in order to get access to rear brake lines. The cable was rusted meaning that a tire could not be changed in the event of a flat.

Catastrophic brake failure, without any warning , caused by complete corrosion of entire brake line!ran car off road to avoid cars at stop.emergency brake also failed due to corrosion.

First incident eastern pa: 05/19/2014 aprox 119000 miles: after hitting the brakes hard to avoid a vehicle that pulled in front of me, the brakes failed (brake pedal would go to the floor with little braking action). Managed to safely stop. Found burst brake line in the rear end of vehicle.two rear corroded rear brake lines replaced by local repair shop.second incident milford ma: 09/17/2015 127336 miles: hit brakes going down driveway. Brakes were soft and sank to floor. Brake line going to front passenger wheel was burst.all the brake fluid drained quickly out of the master cylinder onto the driveway.ordered acdelco 22932592 gm original equipment hydraulic brake pipe kit and am in the process of replacing all brake lines as all of them other than the two replaced in pa are very corroded. The replacement lines are not really oem as they have a nylon coating for better corrosion protection

One week ago i was driving to my back about 6 to 7 miles and my brakes went out. I was so scared i almost died it was a heavy traffic area. This time it was my front rotor cracked right in half. I see a big problem with this especially when the car is only 5 years old. I have asked around and nobody has ever seen or heard of such a thing. This is crazy and i take my kids in this car.

The traction control activates itself on my vehicle even when on dry pavement with very conservative driving.when turning or entering out into traffic suddenly the system will engage and power down the vehicle to a creep.it then re-sets itself after 2-5 seconds.however, while engaged i am rendered helpless and a sitting duck to the upcoming traffic.i have been told that when it becomes more frequent (hopefully my family and i won't be killed before then) that it might show a code so that they will know what to do.in the mean time i am told they have no idea. The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, the hodo latch failed and the hood opened, blocking the view of the highway. The dealer and manufacturer were notified, but denied assistance with repairs of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 125,000.

Rear hatch of my 2005 chevrolet suburban failed to open. There is no device inside the vehicle to effect escape, if involved in a crash that would affect opening of any of the four side doors, and quick exit mandatory. I am a retired jersey city firefighter, and did not realize the safety issue.

I have a 2005 chevrolet surburban. The back hatch window has plastic or rubber hinges to hold it to the frame. The window also has a bolt to hold the piston cylinders so the window could close and open. The window frame where it holds the hinge broke off and now the hinge or bolt that holds the cylinders for the window is coming loose. I have cannot open the window hatch in the rear or it will not close. I bought the suburban brand new and i don't thing this should be happening in four years.

The speedometer needle began "catching," not moving smoothly. After about 2 weeks it would not reset to 0 when stopped then after 1 more day it quit registering completely.

While driving oninterstate when speedometer started reading 80 then 90 then 100, then eventually 120 mph. Pulled over, speedometer only returned to 45. Had to start and stop engine 7 times to get to reset.happens approximately every 2 weeks. Can't count on its accuracy for my safety in driving.

2005 chevy surburban speedometer(55,549 miles) is not working properly.speed varies when car is in use making it unsafe to drive.i don't know what the actual speed is at times/and sometimes the speed drops to zero and stays in this setting. *ln

I purchased my vehicle last year and i am having problems with my speedometer and my rpm gage. I was driving and my speedometer just kept moving up and finally it just got stuck at 120. It doesn't move from there and it is a very big safety issue. My wife uses the vehicle mostly and is on the freeway quite a bit and its a concern because you have no idea what your speed. We are basicallyguessing and that isn't safe for me or my kids. We have contact our dealer were we purchased it and i would have to pay $100.00 for the deductible. I have looked in several different websites (edmunds.com) regarding this issue an was very surprised to see that there are many people with the same problem and frustrated that chevy won't fix the problem. There is an obvious malfunction and it should be replaced at there cost not the consumers. My vehicle has only 57000 miles and this should not be occurring. I also have a 1994 chevy truck and it has never experienced problem like this. I really hope someone can help with this problem.

The contact owns a 2005 chevrolet k1500 suburban. The contact stated that the spare tire carrier on the vehicle would not latch or detach properly. The vehicle was not inspected, diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 91,175.
