2003 chevy suburban i think it is called the cluster where the speeodometer and the fuel gage are located. Fuel gage does not work and speedometer is stuck . Air bag light has gone on twice took to vehicle to dealer they changed front sensor and the light came back on a month later 06/20/2010.
Was hit on the passenger side and the side impact airbags did not deploy. Truck then flipped and no airbags deployed.
Speedometer has failed.shows 120 mph, even when shut down.it slowly began to go from zero at startup, to 35 at startup, to 70 at startup and now to 120.apparently, there is a known defect in the instrument cluster which chevy and dealers are aware of.
The battery keeps going dead and something is not shutting the car down causing a parasitic battery draw killing battery i have gone through 4 battery and after about 3 days or 4 the truck does not start and 2hen i take it to autozone they say its dead and give me a new battery and tried looking up issue and see alot of people having issues and when i took to check alternator or starter nothing they are good
"reduced engine power" light comes on and truck slows to less than 10 mph and the power steering stop working. This has happened six times in the last year. 1st incident i took it to the dealer and they said nothing was wrong with it. Diagnostics performed and nothing came back wrong. I think the wiring to the throttle is possibly to blame. If i hit a bump in the road or cross railroad tracks, the reduced engine power can come on.i have a hunch after researching online & finding that several other people have the same problem, that leads me to believe that chevy knows about it & is doing nothing about it. "typical"!! i am very displeased, especially because i love my suburban. I suggest an investigation & recall of this problem.i ask that chevy takes responsibility for poor quality & repairs the problem pronto! oh, and the power seating fuse caught fire and exploded the little fuse in the fuse box, now the seats won't work & neither does the passenger side windows. The wiring done on this truck is cheap! the parts are cheap! not a happy customer!
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that while idling at a stop sign, the speedometer provided an erroneous reading of 60 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the speedometer cluster needed to be replaced. The vehicle not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.
We are having serious electrical issues with our 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500 z71.it started with the seat warmers only workiing occasionally, then when i was trying to start it one day the ds automatic power seat deployed me and smashed my chest and legs all the way into the steering wheel and dash i was pinned against the steering wheel and dashboard until my husband heard me screaming and came to get me - it did this on its own, i hadn't touched a thing other than turn the key to start position.then the ds power seat buttons starting working in reverse i.e. Pushing forward on the button sends you backwards and pushing back sends you forward, then the service 4wd light came on the dic and stayed on for awhile, the seat warmers started to work again on occasion and then quit altogether...again., now the cluster panel ...speedometer, rpm and other gauges are incorrect more often than not.we are having to use a gps to maintain speed limits.
My '03 chevrolet suburban has developed what appears to be a very common condition where the entire instrument cluster becomes inoperable.for example, while traveling at low, in town speeds, the speedometer will have readings in the 60s, 70s' and 80s. While in the park position, the speedometer will read 55mph. This is absolutely a safety issue and i am really shocked that the nhtsa hasn't forced a recall. There are literally thousands of reports online of this exact problem. General motors is aware that this is a wide spread problem, as they even extended. General motors even provided owners with a special coverage that extends the warranty on the instrument panel cluster for the condition described above, as long as the vehicles age and mileage falls within certain parameters. Those parameters are the main reason for my complaint. Those parameters are 1) 7 years of the in service date, and 2) 70,000 miles, which ever occurs first. My claim to have the instrument cluster in my vehicle repaired under the special coverage was denied on 9/4/09 because the mileage of my vehicle was 93,000 miles at the time of my request. I believe that this is a large scale safety problem that warrants a recall by general motors rather than an extension of warranty with unreasonable mileage parameters. Extending the warranty alone is a clear admission of a known widespread issue. Is nhtsa in bed with gm too? i guess i shouldn't be surprised.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph when the speedometer suddenly failed. In addition, the gear shifter indicator light would not illuminate and the rear center seat belt would not function. When the left turn signal was engaged, the hazard warning lights would illuminate sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was awaiting a diagnosis of the failure. In addition, the contact stated that the fuel kit had to be replaced twice as well as a fuel injector cleaning. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The anti theft system caused the engine to quit going down the hi way several times and was very dangeroussome of the times and left us stranded sometimes. Gm acts like they do not know what is wrong but there is ample info on the internet and even a fix but it disable the ats, it turns off the fuel to the injectors killing the engine. This happened many times. We had to be towed twice because it would not restart.
I was driving my 2003 chevrolet suburban down the road and my speedometer stopped working. I looked online and i found over 40 incidents on www.safecar.gov alone. Whats the problem with getting this safety problem fixed. I can go to the dealer and get it fixed for $500 or more. Do people need to get hurt or die before this problem is noticed by chevrolet or gmc?
Speedometer fluctuates, indicates various speeds other than actual speed.never a standard offset from actual speed.might indicate 20 mph at 55 mph actual as measured by gps one time, then 10 mph at 60 mph actual another time.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was operating as designed. The failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,000.
2003 chevy suburban i think it is called the cluster where the speeodometer and the fuel gage are located. Fuel gage does not work and speedometer is stuck . Air bag light has gone on twice took to vehicle to dealer they changed front sensor and the light came back on a month later 06/20/2010.
Got a 2003 chevorlet surburan. The rear door be showing open n the oil gauge, temperature gauge, rpm, n speedometer not working.
2003 chevrolet suburban hvac blower not fully functional on all blower speeds..service bulletin 11046, april 2010..chevrolet has known defect wiring connector and electrical terminals of relay resistor module as described in service bulletin which results in blower motor not functioning on certain or all blower speeds setting.gm has issued special coverage adjustment for up to 10 yrsper bulletin but refuses coverage purportedly based on my vehicle not being in the special coverage vin:two phone calls to customer service resulted in a hang up, put on hold and not returning to the call, and upon escalating the call to joy, the supervisor refusing to further assist...and refusing to escalate the call further explaining no manager is "likely" available, we've told you your answer....gm case #71-107-8244378 2nd issue with electrical;instrumentation cluster fails to work properly and digital display which indicates whether you are in park, reverse neutral drive (gear) dims or goes out completely.same problem i had on 2005 chevrolet suburban 1500.both vehicles they have refused to fix. 2003 had special coverage 07187 to repair this condition but the previous owner was not properly notified to fix this condition during the manufacture special coverage period.lthey know it existbut once again are using any excuse to do the proper thing and fix the problem. Also reported under 71-107-8244378request nhtsa and appropriate agencies further investigate these matters and hold gm accountable do not let gm continue to skirt recall repairs for known problems by narrow defining which vehicles they have to fix.recalls should cover all vehicles that have identified safety issue and gm should facestiff punishment to encourage them to voluntarily fix problems rather than stonewall, stall, avoid, and make it more difficult than fixing the problem.
I can unlock truck with key or remote put key in start and dash lights come on but no start. After being told it was the fuel pump, the started, and key i know it has something to do with the anti-lock. I have reprogrammed it several time but each time a different way. I have research it on line and it is a on going problem with gm cars and trucks. However i am not sure if it is a recall. I am recently the second car owner of this truck and experiencing this major problem. I am a single mother with children and grandchildren and this is not good for me at night or during the day if at a shopping center. I have had to have it towed to my home then the next day it started. If any one can help me please email [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Just finished driving vehicle for 1 hour at highway speeds without incident. Parked car for 5 minutes, upon trying to restart, the car displayed "reduced engine power" on the driver information console. Approximately 8 restarts and the message did not display. Drove car 5 minutes and parked it for 1 hour, upon restart displayed same message, car was virtually undriveable. 3 restarts later message no longer displayed. This message has now intermittently occurred ever since seemingly without any pattern.the message is related to a failure in the "drive by wire" system that allows for the elimination of a physical cable from the gas pedal. It causes the car to be completely undriveable until seemingly randomly fixing itself.
Ever since we purchased this huge pile of junk, it has been every problem to changing fuelpump several times, catalytic converters, batteries, major electrical problems, every gauge in the vehicle is off from gas gauge to speedometer to coolant! there is not anything that is not wrong with it. After thousands of dollars and so many times of being stranded on the side of the road with 4 little kids in the dead of winter with no heat. I would like a lifetime warranty from chevroletto cover any expense incurred while owning such a piece of crap and for the humiliation i have incurred by being seen in a chevy because they are junk!!!!!or would like book value of vehicle so i can go buy a ford because they run for 250,000 miles plus!!! not 125,000.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that the speedometer began to fluctuate erratically while driving. The failure began as an intermittent problem before progressing to a contact issue. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.
I was driving to a store in my city when it felt like i was not doing the speed limit and going slower than normal.when ii got to the store and turned off the car, i saw that the speedometer was registering 20 mph.i started the car back up and it dropped the speed reading by 5 mph.i did this 3 more times till it registered zero mph.when driving home, i noticed that i was still driving slower than normal and when i got home and turned off the car the speedometer reading was showing 25 mph.i looked online and saw that others are having the same problem.this problem continues to occur every time ii am driving my 2003 chevrolet suburban.i have not taken it to get fixed yet and have contacted chevrolet to see if they will fix the problem for free since it should not be happening.this could possibly affect the vehicle speed control when set.
I got a 2003 chevrolet surb. The rear door keep coming open on it own,the speedometer does not work, oil gauge, and the temperature gauge not work. It had start now when start to cranked it the brake booster light come the battery light come saying not charging.
My entire instrument panel does not always work when i start my truck. It will occasionally come to life after driving a bit or sometimes it doesn't work at all. No pattern as to when, where or driving conditions. Started a few months ago where it would always work shortly after i started the engine and has progressively gotten worse,
When driving vehicle kept falling dead on highway and city streets
The speedometer on our 2003 chevrolet suburban randomly stops working.we understand that it is a defect and that it will only be replaced by chevrolet if the vehicle has less than 70,000 miles.our suburban has 85,000 miles on it.since it is a defect in the instrument cluster, and not because of wear and tear, chevrolet should replace it free of charge.we can't afford to pay the $550+ to have it replaced so we will drive it without the speedometer working, which is unsafe.
2003 suburban speedometer not working. Started malfunctioning in december 2007, the needle would jump all over the place and then stopped working in july.
While driving in a 45mph zone, i checked my speedometer as i passed a police officer and it read 75mph so i immediately hit the brakes to slow.i didn't think i was speeding as i was going with the flow of traffic.upon further investigation i discovered the default position of the gauge was 30mph.eventually the speedometer was fully pegged at 120+ mph.i discussed the failure with colleagues at work and two independent mechanics and i discovered 1) the problem is common in gmc trucks in model years 2002-2006 and 2) the only way to correct it is to replace the entire instrument panel at a cost of approx. $700.i believe this is a safety hazard for two reasons: first, the failure is insidious and can cause an overreaction (one case ii know of where someone was pulling a boat trailer on a wet road, looked down and saw 90mph, hit the brakes and skidded off the highway), and second, because of the high cost of repair for older vehicles owners (as i am) will be hesitant to spend the money to fix one indicator needle.thank you for assistance.
I have a 2003 chevrolet suburban and the speedometer stays at 30 mph when the vehicle is stopped. When traveling down the road i have no idea how fast i am going but am sure that 110 mph is not correct.
The speedometer in my suburban 2003 will not return to zero when i stop.therefore, it reads higher speeds than actual due to this offset.this morning i had it past 120 mph while driving slower than other cars on the highway.i searched the internet and it looks a common problem.why it is not a recall.speed is safety, is in it?why nhtsa is keeping silent?
I have a 2003 chevrolet suburban that the speedometer has quit working in. Chevrolet refuses to take care of the problem. I have researched this online and found many others having the same problem, some have even filed lawsuits. This item is extremely costly and i can not afford to replace it, nor do i feel that i should. I think the manufacturer should recall them and take care of the problem.
I own a 2003 suburban made by chevrolet and the speedometer will know longer work . This seems to be a very common problem with gm vehicles of this year class. It seems dangerous and the fix is $500 or more depending on dealer for the total instrument cluster. Seems like a faulty product to me.
2003 suburban instrument cluster stopped working, speedometer is erratic, sometimes it gets stuck other times it reads extremely high also battery gauge is dead. I have found numerous web forums with countless threads dedicated to complaints on 2003 gm instrument clusters. Whole cluster must be replaced, as it is very dangerous to not know your speed.
Speedometer clicking, sticking. This happened without any warning. Started acting erratic. Stopped vehicle and speedometer showed 80 mph. Started driving slowly and registered 110 mph. Through research on internet found many had same issue. Can turn off engine and restart multiple times to get speedometer back to zero, however, within a short amount of time it is stuck back on a higher speed when stopped. Cannot tell what the correct speed of the vehicle due to this problem.
2003 chevy suburban 53000 miles, instrument cluster failing, speedometer pegged at 120 mph.started intermittently at 49,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500.while driving at any speed, the speedometer would display inaccurate readings.the contact stated that this was an intermittent failure.the dealer stated that the motors inside the speedometer failed.as of october 30, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle.the failure mileage was 35,000 and current mileage was 49,000.
While driving speedometer randomly locks up at different speeds. Sometimes it shows i'm doing 55mph in a 25mph zone. I've called gm on several occasions in the past but was told it was an issue with my vehicle. I called the dealership and was informed the cost to fix ranged from $500-$600. I got a letter from gm today but was told since my vehicle was over 70,000 i was stuck with the repairs. This i think is absurd. If it is clearly a defect then it should be remedied regardless of the mileage on the vehicle. I am the second owner of this vehicle so i took the liberty of calling the previous owner this evening and he told me he had this problem around 46,000 miles. He said he was informed since the vehicle was past 36,000 miles gm will not cover it. Therefore, he traded the vehicle in due to this same issues with the instrument cluster.
Speedometer jumps while i am driving hwy speeds.it jumps to 120 mph while i am doing 60 to 65 mph.
2003 chevrolet suburban.speedometer acts very erratically, often indicating incorrect speed.the problem causing the speedometer to fail also seems to affect the oil pressure gauge. 2004 gmc k1500 z71- speedometer is erratic also.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500.whenever the vehicle is driven, the speedometer freezes and displays inaccurate readings.the vehicle was taken to the dealer once.there is a customer reimbursement, but the vehicle exceeds the mileage requirement.the current mileage was 120,000 and failure mileage was 90,000. Updated 4/29/08
About 18 months i hadthe instrument cluster on the 03 chevrolet suburban. I was told then that this is a very common thing with chevrolet brand clusters. Well, apparently it is. It has happened again. Only now,all of my stepper motors need replacementthis time. I can be driving down the road about what i believe is 60 mph, but my speedometer measures 120 mph. I willget this fixed this week, but i believe chevrolet ought to recall these. If you look online or talk to enough repair shops, you will quickly find out that this seems to be a chronic problem. As such, you will also see vendors online, or ebayetc selling repair services. To me, any misreading of speedometer is a very serious safety issue and ought to be fixed by the manufacturer under a recall.
I was driving at about 50 mph and looked down and my speedometer read 120 mph.i stopped, shut the car off and started again, the speedometer froze at 20 mph.now it randomly freezes or reads a much higher speed than i am going.
I have a 2003 chevrolet suburban which has experience several episodes of speedometer malfunction while driving on the interstate. Usually, the speedometer will malfunction when disengaging the cruise control, speeding up or stopping. After 1-2 days the speedometer will gradually return to baseline. The malfunction has caused me to assume that i was driving slower than i was which has resulting in a high risk for accidents.
My speedometer on my 2003 suburban doesn't work. Concerned about driving not knowing the speed i am going. It stopped working several months after i bought it used, couldn't afford to get if fixed then. After recall obtained recently, i took it to dealership and they said it was over mileage claimed in recall.
Oil pressure gauge drops to 0 after about 20 minutes of running.
The speedometer quit working (gets stuck and reports in accurate speeds or sticks below 0 mph) on my 2003 suburban with only 59000 miles. I am told this is a common problem with the instrument cluster and that gm issued a tsb but no recall even with the many reports and complaints of safety concerns.i am told the repair cost will be $500-$700.i also had to replace a bad a/c compression costing $1k and intake gaskets $320 in the last 3 months.this is ridiculous for this new of a vehicle. I thought gm built better quality products than this.it's a safety issue not knowing how fast you are going or if the other gauges are working correctly.i am nervous putting my wife and 4 kids in this vehicle due to these safety concerns.i will not risk my family's safety due to this low quality of product.
Speedometer and other gauges in the instrument cluster of my 2003 chevrolet suburban not working properly.speedometer indicates 60 mph when at a full stop and 120 mph when moving.
Speedometer failure in 2003 chevrolet suburban.speedometer is producing inaccurate readings. Will read 0 mph at highway speeds, will also read higher speeds while vehicle is stopped. Instrument cluster was replaced at a cost of $550.
Speedometer defective, jerky behavior, incorrect speed displayed, not returning to zero when car is stationary.
Speedometer does not work correctly.it has been this way on and off for the last six months.it will jump around or the needle sticks in the 120 mph position.i have received a notice in the mail regarding this issue elclosure letter 07187.i have just went over the 70,000 warranty stated in the letter by 712 miles.i've contacted chevrolet and the dealer which they have told me that i fall outside the warranty.the cost of repair is around $560.i would have had it fix six months ago but could not afford it.this should be a recall and be repair at no cost since this is clearly a manufactured defect.
Instrument panel failure:speedometer, gas, gauges.2003 chevy suburban.
Speedometer stuck while driving at highway speed home from wisconsinand keeps going up until it tops out around 140 mph.speedometer does not go down when decelerating.when shut off needle returns to about 70 mph and does the same thing.cannot determine what speed vehicle is traveling.
My speedometer displays incorrect mph, creating a driving hazard. I would like gm to fix this problem that so many others like me have had.
Instrument cluster: at any given time, the speedometer will stop registering the vehicle's speed and go past the maximum speed (120mph in this case).when you stop, the speedometer usually stops on approximately 80 or 90 mph depending on the speed you were originally traveling.also, the oil pressure gauge does not show the accurate reading.the oil pressure gauge will all of a sudden go down to zero, or max out at 80 and stay there.it takes several days for the speedometer to go back down to zero, or several times cranking the vehicle and turning off the ignition to get the speedometer to go back to zero, causing premature wear on the ignition components and starter.
Speedometer is erratic, reads incorrectly, sometimes doesn't work at all.
Speedometer reads 120 when stopped. Works when it wants, but right now the speedo is buried as far as it can go. Dealer wants $500.00 to fix when they know the stepper motors are bad. Very unsafe!!!
Speedometer on our 2003 suburban quit working back in march 2008 with approximately 106,000 miles on it.(it now has 110,000 miles)the speedometer went up to 120 when we were going approx. 40 mph and then it stuck down past 160 and has net moved since.so far i haven't been able to find a recall notice from chevrolet/gm.we have owned many different makes of cars along with another suburban with many more miles than this one and the speedometers never stopped working.i was told it would cost over $600 to fix and have not been able to come up with the money yet.searching on-line, this is obviously a problem that gm is not willing to fix as many, many other people have reported this same problem.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. He stated that on november of 2009 while driving approximately 25 mph, he noticed the speedometer was failing. The speedometer began to increase and decrease in speed until it stopped working.he took the vehicle to the dealer. The diagnosis located the failure as the cluster program. The dealer replaced the cluster program. The cost for repair was $500.00. The manufacturer took a report and stated that they will not assist with the repair. The failure mileage was 94,000 the current mileage was 106,000.
Speedometer is currently stuck at 120 mph.problem started with it being stuck at 45 mph when vehicle was stopped.
Common speedometer problem on my 2003 suburban (79k miles).gauge reads erratic incorrect speeds.pulling the ipc/dic fuse resets the gauge temporarily.many, many complaints about this issue can be found, yet no recall has been issued.
Speedometer sticks in excess of 120 mph or is very erratic. Fluctuates between 30 mph (while stopped) to >120 mph.
Speedometer stick and jumps. Only way to resolve is to pull fuse or start/stop ignition repeatedly until it reaches 0. It then works for a while and then does it again. The starting/stopping the ignition surely is not good for started. It first started back in january and continues to happen.
Speedometer failure:speedometer calibration error resulting in incorrect speed level.
Tamara inflators i'm loosing brake fluid as i drive i'm leasing the automobile from quality auto also they said it's okay to still drive the car with a gas in the truck but it's saying needs gas i keep smelling gas after he said it passed road inspection test ! i'm very concerned it more wrong if i jam or pump the brakes i can not stop i'm immediately. Im unsure what my actual mileage is . The sensors are not working when i went to uncle ed's or even other auto shops i do have photos and videos
Just finished driving vehicle for 1 hour at highway speeds without incident. Driving on the highway and i lost all power. It said (reduced engine power) on the dash. This has happened several times and i haven't found a mechanic who can fix it. I've looked all over the internet and there are many other people with the same problem. This is very dangerous and almost caused an accident. It comes out of nowhere and for this to happen to someone for the first time, it's going to cause some deadly crashes.
Suburban loses power and engine dies while driving.no warnings before shut off and no codes after shut off.after waiting 5-10 minutes, vehicle cranks and runs again.randomly, it may shut off again in 1-2 miles or run for days without the problem.this is very disturbing when one is on the interstate running 70 mph and your engine shuts off.you lose power steering and brakes as you try to make it to the emergency lane.someone is going to get killed!!!the battery died after several attempts to restart yesterday.the dealer cannot identify why the engine shuts off, so no repairs have been made.
For the past 4 yearsi have owned a 2003 suburban 1500 z71.3 of those years i've had a/c problems. We have replaced everything and anything that has to do with a/c. Thousands of dollars and now something else has come up.driver side hot air blows out and passenger side cold air comes out. We don't know what to do with this suburban anymore. I have friends with suburbans and have the exact same problems with it,what can we do?
2003 chevy suburban 1500 4wd 5.3l gm has a known issue with the heads on these vehicles with the 5.3l engines. The company (castech) who made the heads let them go with a defect that allows coolant to leak into the motor. Gm has a tsb on it as well #06-06-01-019bit can cause possible overheating due to coolant loss, as it leaks into the engine it creates rough idle and a slight missfire which will damage the converter sometime in the future.they know about this defect and should be forced to replace these heads with different ones.the only way to correct this issue is to replace the heads with another company.
Vehicle stalls at highway speeds, specifically, under load (up hills, accelerating, etc...) when gas is given, the car stalls. The tach still reads a number, and all cabin electronics remain active, without showing any hint of a problem (no spike, dimming of lights, etc...) engine just dies. (again, this typically happens at highway speeds [40-80 mph.])no check engine light comes on, and there is no indication of the possibility of a failure electronically [ie, no "messages."] the only discernible symptom is sluggishness on the part of the accelerator, as if slamming the accelerator to the floor would cut out the engine, but slowly pushing the accelerator to the floor would permit (somewhat) the acceleration. (mind you, that i almost never push my accelerator all the way to the floor.)further, any acceleration (however slight,) can cause the engine to stall when the car is in the mood to want to stall.(the problem is somewhat intermediate - it has happened about 10-15 times in the past 6 months, once on the throgsneck bridge in ny.)the problem has happened on numerous occasions, (the first time around the beginning of july '06, [about 2 occasions on one day, 4 more another day that week,) and then again around october 10th, on which there were another 5 or so incidents. On oct 11th, i brought the car back to the dealership, and they saw no error codes, so couldn't do anything to diagnose the problem. Onstar was similarly unable to diagnose any errors with the vehicle.
2003 chevrolet suburban 5.3l gas engine.vehicle started making a ticking sound. Upon investigation i found the driver side rear exhaust manifold bolt head had snapped off.no work had been done to the vehicles exhaust system prior to this.upon further inspection visual soot can be seen on the firewall indicatimg exhaust gasses are coming in conact with the passenger compartment.i feel this poses a huge fire hazard if left running long enought to generate sufficient heat for combustion.i also feel it is an emissions related concern since exhaust gasses are escapng the system upstram from the catalytic converters and posing the risk of exhaust gasses entering the vehicle.i have contacted gm and have recieved no positive response to dealing with this issue.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500.while driving 30 mph, one of the tires flattened.the contact was unable to use the spare tire because the tire release cable latch was rusted and impossible to remove.he walked to a gas station and had the flat tire repaired.the dealer and manufacturer stated that the vehicle was ten months over its warranty.the current and failure mileages were 32,200. *updated 12/12/07
While driving the vehicle i noticed the air conditioning compressor was audible while running.i am not the primary driver, so i wrote the noise off as normal.a few days later home my wife started the vehicle and turned the air conditioning on and smelled something burning.the compressor had seized up and the clutch was burning up. I took the vehicle to my mechanic who diagnosed it as needing a new compressor, dryer-receiver, orifice filter, and a recharge and i should be all set. Not the case, the entire system was filled with metallic particles and immediately plugged the filter.now, i was faced with replacing most of the major components within the system to the tune of nearly $1000.00.the mechanic took pity on me and extended me a discount, but the price should have been several hundred dollars higher.the vehicle had 61,000 miles on it at the time of failure.i have had countless vehicles with a/c and never heard of this, until it happened and i began to ask questions and found this is not uncommon amongst gm air conditioning.
The high center (3rd) brake light on my 20003 chevy suburban has gone out for the third time. I see many many similar vehicles with their high-center (3rd) brake lights out. There has to be some electrical system glitch to cause the failure. Gm recently announced a recall to replace the entire dash board because of electrical problems. The problems may be relatedthis is a safety issue as the high-center brake light serves an important function and at $120 plus labor to replace is can get expensive.
During cold months only vehicle has power surges whenever driving. Interior lights and headlights flicker consistently to where it appears i am flashing my lights. The higher the rpms, flickering is more frequent. Apparently a known issue with no solution or recall. Alternator and battery testing out good.
When the left turn signal is activated the hazards flash.
2003 chevy suburban 1/2 ton four wheel drive inaccurate fuel level reading on gauge. Ran out of fuel multiple times. At first fuel tank was empty when gauge read 1/8 tank, now empty when gauge reads 1/4 tank. Have not replaced any parts yet as cost would be too much at this time. Just being aware of how much fuel we have used. No injuries or crashes, but this could lead to something serious on the road or expressway if the engine were to shut down because of lack of fuel.
2003 chevy suburban i think it is called the cluster where the speeodometer and the fuel gage are located. Fuel gage does not work and speedometer is stuck . Air bag light has gone on twice took to vehicle to dealer they changed front sensor and the light came back on a month later 06/20/2010.
Fuel gauge malfunctioned on our 2003 chevy suburban.it indicated more gasoline was in the car than was actually in the tank.
I'm having this problem now, i went to the dealer, and they want $280 just to look at it. I have sent it to another dealer and they have had the car for two days, but they cant find the problem. They even asked me to take the suburban home, but one block it happened again. Im so frustrated, and i spent so much on taxi going back an fourth. And no one knows the problem. I was driving down the road and it just dies. When i pulled off i put it in park and started again, i was able to go one more mile and bam it did it again.why cant anyone figure it out? why aren't there any recalls? i lost all control of the vehicle because the engine died.what does it take to get someone's attention?when the engine cut off at 69mph i pressed the brake which made it harder and harder to control the vehicle. There are no error codes or anything to describe the issue. I'm afraid to drive the car, for fear that i might slam into someone else. While i was driving, there was no detection of misfire or anything, it just died.

Defective fuel level sensor provides erroneous data to fuel gauge resulting in gauge showing more fuel available than actually in the tank.hazard of leaving motorists stranded in remote or unsafe locations/conditions, or of running out of fuel during vehicle operation.chevrolet has identified the problem as a faulty fuel level sensor/fuel strainer and documented the problem by corporate bulletin 04-06-04-012c but is not offering repair of the problem for out of warranty vehicles.

The hinge for the rear liftgate window failed.there is a horizontal crack across the hinge.it appears to be metal fatigue.this failure is a safety hazard for the following reasons:1) the window no longer seals properly and could allow exhaust gases to enter the vehicle cabin, resulting in carbon monoxide poisoning.it is very possible that this failure would not be detected immediately.2) the hinge failure causes additional strain on the remaining hinge and latch.further failure would result in the window detaching from the vehicle.a) if this occurred while driving, the window could impact vehicle behind the suburban or shatter on the roadway leading to debris related accidents.b) if this occurred while stationary, the glass could (which is heavy and sharp edged) could injure a person standing or walking at the rear of the vehicle.this exact same failure occurred previously on this vehicle at ~ 13000 miles of operation.the repair was made by a dealer at no charge to the owner.the recent recurrence of the failure of the same hinge occurred at ~107000 miles.the problem was reported to general motors customer service and was logged as service request # 71 743 851 820 by jatta flores.jatta denied owner's request that gm repair the defect.

(reduced engine power) will not accelerate faster than 30 mph. Shut off engine for 15 seconds and start up again and it happens 10 to 15 times a day, even at 65 mph on the highway. (no power) and no help from gm dealer ship.*ln
I got a 2003 chevrolet surb. The rear door keep coming open on it own,the speedometer does not work, oil gauge, and the temperature gauge not work. It had start now when start to cranked it the brake booster light come the battery light come saying not charging.
2003 chevrolet suburban with traction control.control cuts in when making sharp turn from side road onto main highway.this causes vehicle to rapidly slow to almost a stop until transmission catches up and vehicle speed increases.dealer says it is because of sensors in wheelbearing and the wheelbearings need to be replaced.this is a definite hazard when entering ahighspeed (55 mph or higher) highway from a side road.i complained to gm and they said there were no recalls about this.dealer says they have hadproblem on several vehicles.

Over the past 3 years, the cover on all three seat belt latches in the second row of our suburban have failed.they are made of 2 pieces of plastic that clip together to cover the mechanism and provide guidance for the seat belt tab to be inserted into the latch.not having the latch covered makes it extremely difficult to buckle any seat belt for passengers in the second row.it is also difficult to press the button to release the seat belt.this is a huge safety issue as it is very difficult to buckle the seat belts even for an adult.none of our children can secure their seat belt when riding in this car.we have to make sure each time we get in the car to assist them.in addition, it is easy to scrape against the exposed metal of the latch mechanism when entering and exiting the vehicle.i was not able to find any recalls or other inquiries about this issue.

Subpar material used in brake/fuel lines they rust premature
Was driving behind a school bus when it stopped to let kids off. I applied my brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I had no brakes, i am not really sure how i managed to stop without hitting the bus.i pulled over in a parking lot. Got out of my 2003 chevy suburban went into the bank to call my husband to come get me. By the time i got back out to my truck there was a puddle of brake fluid under the drivers side door. My brake lines where shoot.
Driving down the road and the brake pedal became mushy, took precaution to get home with slow speed. About 100 yards from my driveway the brake service light came on. Complete loss of hydraulic braking power.coasted into drive and applied parking brake.checked brake lines and found all brake lines rusted but the front right brake line rusted through allowing all brake fluid to leak out.the brake reservoir was completely empty.
On approximately april 7, 2014, while engaging vehicle in parking lot, i depressed the brake pedal, and the pedal went all way to floor.had vehicle subsequently towed to chevrolet of gadsden, al for examination.was informed that the brake line on drivers side had developed a leak, and the brake line was so corroded that they would not be comfortable with a standard repair. I.e., they refused to work on vehicle.the vehicle is at the dealership, and i have been advised that i can come and pick it up.
Brake pedal went to the floor and car would not stop.had to use the parking break and run into the curb to stop.found there was no fluid so filled the master cylinder and pumped brakes.fluid was running out of the line just under the driver's door.i inspected all the brake lines and found them severely corroded and will now replace them all.the last time i had to change a steel brake line was on a 1952 buick, but that was in 1984, when the car was 32 years old.there should be either a recall or at least a notice from chevrolet that this could happen.i could have easily wrecked my truck and/or killed a pedestrian.
Brakes failed on highway. Had to have front and rear brake lines replaced due to severe corrosion.
Went to stop when traffic stop and felt the brake pedal go to the floor with very little braking power to stop. Had to swerve to miss the car in front.i limped home with very little braking power and when i got home i check the oil resolve, it had almost no oil.looked under the truck and found a leaking brake line.the line was rusted out.
Rear brake line corrosion and low brake fluid.chevrolet dealer replaced rear brake lines.lost brake pressure on december 23, 2003 and towed vehicle to chevrolet dealership.dealership diagnosed problem as front brake line corrosion and recommended replacing brake lines.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a curb. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The contact was advised that the brake line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
Getting onto exit ramp at 50 mph . Began pressing brake pedal. Suddenly no braking power at all.
It's make a weird sound when turning the abs indicator light is on ther dash stationary i came outside to start up the vehicle is noticed a liquid leaking from underneath
Was traveling in city down a slight hill when the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and the service brake system warnings went on and sounded. Immediately shifted vehicle into a low gear and pumped brakes. Was able to bring vehicle to a stop off the road. Upon examination it was obvious there had been a catastrophic brake line failure as brake fluid was all on the ground and covering the spare tire. Repair shop confirmed this was due to rusting of the brake lines.
I was driving on a paved highway, when the upcoming intersection light turned red. When i applied the brakes the brake pedal was very soft and just kept going all the way to the floor. After the pedal was all the way to the floor then the red warning light came on. I was able to stop the vehicle before entering the intersection and luckily there was no one in front of me. If there had been, i would have hit them. I drove to a nearby truck stop and got some brake fluid, the vehicle took the whole container. I had no fore-warning of any problem with the brake system. I carefully drove home and by the time i got there, approximately 12 miles, my brake fluid was down again and the brakes were failing as i pulled into my drive. Again, the warning light did not come on at any time until i pushed the brake pedal all the way to the floor.my husband looked at the car the next morning and the rear brake linings were corroded and leaking.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that while exiting a parking space the brakes failed. The brake pedal was applied and pressed to the floorboard but to no avail. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the brake line on the drivers side needed to be replaced due to extensive rust. The undercarriage was extremely rusted for an extended period of time and the local dealer had not provided a remedy. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000.
Brake flex lines between abs and master rusted and failed, twice, within 2 years, brake lines rusted out between 90-106 k miles, gm does not make the parts anymore, and aftermarket parts are sketchy quality from china!poor design, cheap steel lines, too thin, and no support of their products! clearly gm has a myriad of other recalls and failures, but these are brakes, a critical part and safety component in vehicles that are supposedly their bread and butter- if your going to design safety parts to comport with federal requirements, support the product for reasonable use which is 25 years, better designs. 3 brake failures in 3 years, over $1800 now and no peace of mind it willnot fail again.
While traveling 35mph i began to brake for a changing light signal.the initial application of brakes began to slow the vehicle until the brake pedal went to the floor and a complete loss of braking power was experienced.i rapidly let off and re-applied pressure to the brake pedal with no gain in braking.i coasted through the intersection on a red light.there was no collision.i downshifted and used the parking brake to slow the vehicle and eventually stop.a brake warning light came on only after the complete loss of braking power.inspection of the brake line revealed a rupture to the front right brake line next to the frame rail.
While driving my 2003 suburban i was approaching a stop sign and attempted to brake.the brake pedal suddenly went to the floor with no braking action.as the truck continued through the stop sign (thank goodness no other car was crossing) i attempted to engage the emergency break which failed to slow down or stop as well.i then intentionally turned to truck over a curb into a grassy area as to stop the vehicle prior to rolling down the hill into highway traffic.upon examining under the truck i discovered an area under a clamp leaking brake fluid.it appears that it had corroded through.
While transiting the parking lot at the end of the work day last thursday, i was approaching the street entrance when i attempted to slow my vehicle.when i pressed the brake peddle, i encountered normal braking resistance for about a half second before resistance stopped and the peddle floored.i pumped the peddle several times to attempt to build pressure in order to stop the vehicle.this was unsuccessful.i abandoned the hydraulic braking system and deployed the parking/emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle before entering rush hour traffic on the cross street.the parking brake system was able to stop the vehicle before it entered traffic. There were no accident or injuries.the hydraulic braking system appeared to have suffered a sudden and complete failure without any warning.in fact, the "brake system failure" indicator light did not come on until several minutes after the vehicle had come to a complete stop.on site inspection showed rusted brake lines and no brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoirs.there were large puddles of brake fluid on the ground at both the left front and left rear wheels and a trail of brake fluid leading back up the parking lot.there was also a small puddle of brake fluid by the right rear wheel. The mechanic at the dealership, where i purchased the vehicle new, confirms that one brake line ruptured due to corrosion and that the others were also corroded and should be replaced.please note: this vehicle was purchased in and has been continuously garaged in central virginia and has never been operated for significant periods of time in traditional "salt belt" states or in marine environments which would accelerate corrosion.were "stainless" or corrosion resistant alloys mandated or used in these brake lines?
Was driving with my childrenin vehicle. As i was approaching intersection, stepped on brake pedal and it went completely to floor. The brakes were not working at all. I had to downshift and use emergency brake in order to avoid collision.had to have suburban towed.
I just started leasing the vehicle from quality auto that says that the car is road ready but have lots of hazardous things to it a very bad gas leak that there taking there time to fix and my hood of my car won't stay down ...it's 7 days into my car lease and there promises have been broken and won't trade me another car .
Brake line rusted through causing dangerous situation where vehicle is slow to stop and does not stay stopped when needed such as traffic lights, hills, stop signs, etc.
Re: loss of brakes. The hydraulic brake lines failed and leaked brake fluid. The brake system suffered a loss of loss hydraulic pressure.the brake lines showed heavy corrosion. Corrosion caused the hydraulic brake lines to fail.
Brake lines rusting. Twice in a month the brakes failed after a hard stop at a traffic light. Lucky for me & others there were no cars in front of me or trying to cross the intersection. After applying the brake hard to stop, the brake pedal continued all the way to the floor and the car did not stop. The mechanic told me that the brake lines rusted and therefore thebrake fluid leaked out of the system
As i was backing my vehicle from my driveway i noticed a puddle of brake fluid where the vehicle was parked. Upon closer inspection i noted that the front brake line leading from the master cylinder to the rear abs controller was leaking fluid onto the roadway.the vehicle is no longer safe to drive until the brake lines are replaced.all of the brake lines on this 2003 suburban are heavily corroded and look ready to fail at any moment.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, he applied the brakes at an intersection but the vehicle did not stop and crashed into a curb. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that all of the brake lines and the front calipers would need to be replaced due to severe corrosion. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 80,000.
Brakes completely failed without any warning or warning light.brake pedal went to the floor with no brakes response.rolled to a stop going up a hill.car was towed to the local dealer, who told us the brake lines had corroded and failed.second time the brake lines failed in two years.
Without warning brake line blew a hole and no brakes. No warning and total loss of brakes. Service brake system light came on. No help with that. Fortunately i was able to pass on right shoulder threw the grass. Almost a three vehicle accident. Need to have this problem addressed and taken care of. People could have easily been injured or killed.
Was backing out of driveway and brake pedal went to the floor and would not stop. Threw shifter into park before it rolled out of driveway and down embankment and into woods. Inspection of vehicle found brake fluid leaking from corroded brake lines at rear of vehicle on driver's side. Further inspection showed that all brake lines are corroded and must be replaced.

We were driving down the highway at 55mph when i saw a deer on the side of the road.i pressed the brake pedal and it didn't respond properly.instead, the brake pedal went nearly to the floor and the vehicle took a long time to slow to a stop.i began driving again and tested the brakes; they did not work properly.i had to press the pedal to the floor to get the vehicle to brake, and even then it took a very long time to stop the vehicle.it was dangerous to drive the vehicle at this point. I took the vehicle to the nearest chevrolet dealership and was told that all four brake lines had rusted and ruptured.the vehicle has been stored indoors and driven very little in the winter months.this incident upset me greatly as it put my family in serious danger. I have subsequently learned this is a common problem with gm vehicles of that model year. I have owned 25 automobiles over 45 years and have never had sudden brake failure. I am concerned that someone will be injured or killed, if this hasn't already occurred, and i implore you to consider a safety recall. Thank you.
Applied brakes and had to press almost to the floor. Once stopped, the vehicle would start to roll again unless i applied further pressure on the brakes. I drove the vehicle home and the next morning there was a puddle of brake fluid under the car.
A complete loss of braking ability, ruptured brake lines. Lines between proportioning valve and abs pump ruptured and failed completely. Lines rusted and failed. No accident and no injuries. My wife was driving, vehicle was operated in reverse {backing up}, she then shifted to forward, brakes failed, pedal went to floor, and rolled from a parking lot into a highway, fortunately no other traffic was present.
The rear drivers side brake line broke. While at the repair shop, they informed me the other side brake line was bad and needed replaced. Two months later two more lines broke. The main rear line and front supply line from the master.
Brakes failed while driving vehicle shortly after leaving my house while driving down my driveway.the brakes were working fine when i started the truck and completed a 3 point turn to turn the vehicle around in my driveway.as i started going down my driveway and went to apply my brakes to slow the vehicle down that's when the problem occurred.luckily i was driving slow, under 15 mph, when i experienced the issue:the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and the vehicle barely slowed down.i started to pump the brakes which did slow the vehicle some and i also employed the emergency brake which enabled me to bring the vehicle to a stop.had i been in traffic, and not just in my driveway, i most likely would have collided with another vehicle as i had very little control over stopping the vehicle when the issue happened.the issue was due to a rusted rear brake line under the vehicle.the single brake line feeding both of the rear brakes had burst in the vicinity under the drivers seat.the brake line burst while i was going down my driveway as evidenced by the amount of brake fluid spayed onto my driveway when i first attempted to apply my brakes while driving down the driveway and at each point where i pumped the brakes.i was shocked that a single brakeline bursting would leave my entire vehicle without brakes.why is there a front and rear reservoir if they don't matter?there should have been at least a safety alert about this potential danger so i would have known to watch for this obvious safety flaw on my chevrolet suburban.after inspecting the rest of my brake lines i have found that 100% of all my brake lines are severely rusted and will need to be replaced. The chevrolet dealership near my house has already quoted me a repair estimate of $2,100 over the phone, but will need to see the vehicle first to be more precise in their estimate.
The red brake light is on. The abs module is not allowing the two rear brakes to work. The a/c control box in the dash blows hot air through the driver side only. In fl that is dangerous because of the heat already.
I was driving on the road coming up to a stop sign getting ready to enter on to the freeway. My brake pedal went completely to the floor and i could not stop. I had to use the parking brake to avoid hitting the cars in front of me. No easy task at 45mph. I veered around the cars and went off of the road.after looking, my suburban i found that 2 brake lines had blown out and were severely rusted. The area that they rusted was directly below the drivers area. I looked at the rest of the brake system and all of the lines are severely rusted. In 28 years of driving i have never had a brake line go out on me. I've owned some cars with upwards of 250,000 miles too. My 03 suburban has 75,000 miles on it. This is ridiculous. I could have been killed or seriously injured or killed someone. I have been researching this online and see that there is complaint after complaint of this problem. When is the nhtsa going to act on this? gm should be recalling these vehicles and fixing them. These are family vehicles that can carry as many as 8 or 9 people. This is a tragedy waiting to happen.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for an unrelated repair when they noticed that the brake and fuel lines were rusted severely. In addition, the spare tire carrier exhibited rust corrosion and was removed from the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.
Brake pedal almost to floor, extremely long time to stop.no warning just driving in columbus traffic and lost brakes. Found master cylinder almost empty. Brake lines rusted through left side drivers floor/frame rail area. Dealer estimate $1200 to$1600. Seems to be a common problem as on line investigation verifies.web site shows open case,no re-call to repair.
Vehicle infront of me stopped quickly.when i applied the brake; peddle went to the floor.i was far enough back to avoid a crashbut had no brakes. Brake system failed with out warning.towing agency told me brake line burst.
I was on my way to the grocery store with my two children and i noticed while going to leave my driveway that when i went to brake there was a lot of play room that was not previously there. I went to test them again and had to push down all the way to the floor to get our vehicle to come to a complete stop. I then parked the vehicle until my husband got home. After having our vehicle looked over a couple times we were able to see that the brake lines were corroded in some areas.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was applied, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and the brake warning light illuminated. The emergency brake was applied in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the brake lines were replaced on two occasions but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed back to the independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
10/11/2 brakes failed plus parking brake failed and parking brakeshoe assembly was not found upon dealer inspection. Replaced disc brakes and had parking brake shoe installed.11/09/12 check engine light revealed ignition problem. New ignition wire set installed.01/29/13 dash cluster failed, had no horn, no headlights, no interiorlights, no speed control , no steering wheel lightsfor control buttons, no speedometer reading, no radio. Replaced dash cluster.05/05/14 check engine light and stranded when vehicle would not start. Misfire messages on dealer equipment reading. 06/16/14 stranded again , vehicle would not start. Replaced ignition switch.07/15/14 stranded again , vehicle would not start. Replaced starter relay.02/16/15driver heated seat coming on/off while driving on its own. 4 wd engaged on its own while driving and made driving uncontrolled. Awd engaged on its own while driving on dry smooth road.stranded, would not start. Vehicle at dealer again today for this list of problems.
I had to have all 4 rotors replaced at 40,000 miles. They were full of rust and down to the metal. Most of my miles are highway and this repair was expensive.
Experiencing unwanted antilock brake system (abs) activation on my 2003 suburban particularly at slow speed stops.
I got a 2003 chevrolet surb. The rear door keep coming open on it own,the speedometer does not work, oil gauge, and the temperature gauge not work. It had start now when start to cranked it the brake booster light come the battery light come saying not charging.
1.speedometer faied s daily.it will read 90 mph when i have just began accelerating. Other times it will read 10 mph when i am driving with traffic on the freeway.problem has not been corrected, dealership advised it wasnot covered under a recall although they have received numerous complaints. 2. Second row middle seat belt failedto retract.second middle seatbelt fastener got stuck and unable to unfasten seat belt without force.has not been corrected.3. Paint on radio controls & dashboard is peeling off - paint was originally grey and now some areas are black and other clear with the bright light shining through when the radio is in use.4. Brakes squeek excessively, replaced brakes & pads noise ceased for a month and then began again. 5. Rear access door rattles constantly6. Rear access door plastic molding on inside of door cracked7. Front passenger seat belt plastic cover cracked and broke off8. Left rear passenger door light casing cracked and fell off9. Steering makes an abnormal noise when turning.
Upon backing into the driveway after returning from a short errand, the brake pedal went to the floor with no braking action. No damage occurred since the emergency brake stopped the car at low speed. All instrument panel lamps for the braking system were lighted and the message "service brake system" came on. Upon inspection, the brake fluid reservoir was empty and the fluid was dripping from the underside a little forward of the driver's side of the car. After having the car towed to the auto repair shop it was found to have rusted out steel brake lines in a cluster of four leading from the master cylinder back toward the rear of the car. Luckily this total loss of braking occurred at the very end of the trip since there was no warning of any problem beforehand. Six lengths of the rusted steel brake lines needed to be replaced.
Corroded brake lines on 2003 chevrolet suburban caused a front end crash when brake line burst at corrosion. I was lucky to have had a snow bank in my path and not another car. I applied the brakes coming to a stop light when the brake pedal went to the floor. Myself and my wife went through the red light, unable to stop, with no traffic coming from the cross street, luckily. I was able to get home slowly and found the brake line corroded and brake fluid squirting from the brake when pressure applied upon inspection.
2003 chevy suburban 1500 4wd 5.3l, gm has a known issue with braking on these trucks where it takes too long to stop. I have replaced all pads, rotors, and calipers. Also performed abs brake bleeding to see if air was in the abs module/pump assembly. Truck still at times seems to not want to stop. It always takes a long distance to stop. There is no abs activating during this time. This has been an issue since i bought the truck in 2007.
After an initial failure of the hydraulic brake (line ruptured about two feet behind the abs valve) while the car was moving, and after this line was replaced, i inspected the rear wheel brake lines and noticed extreme corrosion on both lines that run from a junction connection above the differential to the hoses on each caliper.while checking the fittings and inspecting the left line it literally crumbled, broke and started leaking.i replaced both lines and bleed the system.the car had been into the dealer within last year (approx.) for brake line inspection after observing a lot of rust.the dealer claimed that lines were ok and that a lot of rust was normal and ok. I had to pay for this inspection.
On oct.7, 2011 my wife was driving our 2003 chevy suburban. In just normal driving conditions she applied the brakes. A warning sound came on and the brake pedal went to the floor. Just that quick !, brake line failure! if she had been driving faster than 40 mph. Their might have been a bad intersection collision. She nervously was able to creep the vehicle to a stop. I researched this condition on-line and was startled to find nhtsa is investigating over 6 million vehicles with the same conditions.it's a travesty that this can go on.it must be the goverments way of not being able to police its own company.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph approaching a stop sign, the brake pedal traveled rapidly to the floor upon engaging and the vehicle failed to slow down. The contact shifted into neutral gear in order to apply the parking brake and stop the vehicle. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000. The vin was unavailable.
Abs would incorrectly engage when stopping at low speeds (< 5 mph). Increases stopping distance since abs starts pumping instead of just applying brakes. This happens on ideal road conditions and at low speed/non skidding stops. Mechanic replaced wheel hub assembly on both front left and front right wheels (wheel hub included new abs speed sensor). Problem was fixed.this is obviously a safety issue. Gm has already recalled 99 - 2002 (mine is a 2003) suburbans for this. Mechanic indicated that abs sensors were badly corroded (presumably) from salt getting into contact with the sensor.mechanic also indicated that he has fixed this in *many* suburbans and in many cases that came after owners had unsuccessfully tried to get dealers to fix the issue. Mechanic said dealers were replacing the abs computer, at a cost of thousands of dollars, and problem still wasn't fixed. Important note: it appears that regardless of whether a recall is done, dealers should at least be aware of this common safety problem with suburbans from this time period.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. When approaching a stop sign and depressing the brakes, the anti-lock braking system would engage unnecessarily and the brake pedal would fall to the floorboard. Whenever the failure would occur, the brakes would not engage and the vehicle would fail to stop. The dealer was notified and would offer no assistance. The contact has experienced the failure for approximately two years.the failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 59,000.
2003 chevy suburban requiries too much pressure on brake pedal to stop.
In 2003 i purchased a new chevrolet suburban 1500. The vehicle has been garage kept and presently has 26,000 miles on it. Three weeks ago my wife experienced a total brake failure at 30 mph. She used the emergency brake to stop the car without incident.on inspection of the brake system, the front passenger steel brake line was rusted completely thru. On further inspection, all the brake lines were rusty and in bad shape. I have inquired information from 6 chevrolet dealerships in the state of maryland, all of which have seen and repaired the exact problem many times. I am told that in 2006, gm started annodizing their steel brake lines again. But for the suburbans built in 2003 and 2004, the problem was never rectified and gm has no recall on them. Since suburbans are primarily used to transport people, i would think this issue would be of great importance to you. I replaced the brake lines with after market stainless steel lines at my own expense, $1200.
1) sudden loss of braking power during stop with no warning.2) pedal travels almost completely to the floor.braking force is much less than normal.this is not an intermittent condition.3) examination shows that a hard (steel?) hydraulic brake line has corroded and ruptured.
The brakes failed due to rusted brake lines blowing out in the proximity of the abs motor, which is located on the driver side, along the frame, underneath the drivers seat.
Brake lines rusted out.brakes gone !
When applying brakes to avoid hitting a deer, the pedal went completely to the floor. No abs, no partial pedal, straight to the floor.vehicle was towed to chevrolet dealer where it was determined that both front and rear brake lines needed to be replaced due to brake line corrosion.dealer provided rough estimate of $1500 plus tax to repair.
Based on nhtsa #05v379000, our 2003 chevrolet suburban has exhibited the same problem of engaging the abs system when coming to a stop at a light or intersection.this only happens on a slow stop. The referenced recall does not include year 2003 and chevrolet will not repair at no charge. This problem happens intermittently, sometimes three times in one day and then not at all for a couple of days.my auto mechanic has confirmed the problem is a corrosion of front wheel speed sensor.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated when braking at low speeds, the abs would independently activate. The failure progressed over time and would occur several times while in transit. The dealer advised that the abs was defective and the sensors would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. Failure mileage was approximately 55,000 and the current mileage was approximately 60,000.
2003 chevy suburban is having the same abs problems that led to the recall of 99-2002 suburbans in the "salt belt". I have talked to the dealer as well as gm, but to no avail.the 2003 needs to be recalled as well.thank you.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact was driving 5 mph when he applied the brakes and they did not respond. The contact had to engage the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the mechanic advised him that the metal brake line was rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 38,900.
This is the second time i have had to bring my 2003 chevrolet suburban in to replace the noisy look steering column. The first time it was repacked. The second time was this week. This time they replaced the parts inside the steering column.

This is the second time this has happened to this vehicle, a 2003 chevy suburban. I fixed it the first time in 2006 and now it has happened again. A loud clunking noise around the steering wheel shaft. The dealer said it was not a recall item but one that they have had numerous complaints about. I guess because no one has died from it, chevy thinks that shabby workmanship and defects are okay to pass on to consumers. This is an annoying clunking and one that could mask a real problem if you can't hear it. When is someone going to do something about it?

It's make a weird sound when turning the abs indicator light is on ther dash stationary i came outside to start up the vehicle is noticed a liquid leaking from underneath
Intermediate steering shaft needs replacing again. This will be the 4th time that it has to be replaced.24,451mi, 26,094mi, and65,655mi. You start to hear a clunking noise when turning or slight movement of steering wheel. Has more play then usual as well.gm should be forced to replace these as they know it is a known problem.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500.in june of 2003, while driving approximately 15 mph into the driveway, the contact heard a thumping noise in the steering column.since the first incident three years ago, the vehicle continued to make a thumping noise and vibrate whenever making a left or right turn.the vehicle was driven to the dealer and the mechanic stated that there were no recalls or defects relating to this failure.several mechanics inspected the vehicle and stated that the intermediate shaft was defective and caused the failure.the manufacturer has not been notified.the vehicle has not been repaired.the current mileage was 62,000 and failure mileage was 18,000.
2003 suburban 1500 4wd ,rattle and clunk in steering column, nothing loose in the steering just clunking noise while driving. Vehicle has 26000 miles on it,butwas over 3 years old. Curt warner chevroletsaid it was a common problem... No warranty or recall. In fact he pulled a u-joint and shaft from his desk to show me what the noise was comming from in the column.
One of the two rear plastic window hinges has snapped.i first noticed on 10/11 as i was accessing the rear of the vehicle by unlatching the window. I went online to check the issue and now realize this issue is widespread, that gm is aware of it, and actually re-designed the hinges starting in 2005. What they haven?t done (as i know it) is issue a recall for this obvious manufacturing defect. I'm writing to ask whether the nhtsa is aware of this issue, and if it and/or gm have already decided this does not warrant further attention. The concern is it?s easy to latch the window in place, even with 1 of the 2 hinges broken, and therefore delay or simply ignore the repair need (as the repair cost is significant), assuming it?s safe as long as you don't use the window further for access. By continuing to use the vehicle w/out repair, the one working hinge and window latch itself are forced to keep the window in place. This is a potential disaster waiting to happen. Under the added stress, the single hinge will eventually fail, and likely at speed as the vehicle hits the last bump the hinge can withstand, or as reported by owners online, a window is simply rolled down, increasing wind force on the rear window. If either happens the result is always the window is jettisoned from the frame and lands on whatever it lands on behind the vehicle.as you might imagine, this would be a significant event, as the window is 4-5 feet wide and large and heavy enough to potentially cause disaster to traffic traveling behind the vehicle.i've called 2 chevy dealerships in the area so far and asked their service departments if this issue is being addressed and their response has been they've never heard of the part failing. That may be true, but in my opinion not likely. I worry this is a trained response, specifically targeted to minimize attention on the matter.
The contact owns a 2003 chevrolet suburban 1500.the contact stated that he was experiencing catastrophic failure with his vehicle.the hinges that support the back windows are separating from the hinges.this causes the entire window to realign and shatter at any time.it is currently being held together with adhesive tape.the dealer and manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 03v037000 (structure:body:door:hinge and attachments).the failure mileage was 50,000.

While driving on the freeway a loud pop was heard inside the vehicle followed by a sudden and pronounced increase in wind noise.the vehicle suffered a structural failure in the rear tail gate window hatch.metal fatigue caused the left window hatch hinge to separate from the vehicle frame.this produced a potentially hazardous situation if as a result of the vehicle speed the window had fully separated from the vehicle at high speed in traffic. The glass window and frame would have struck the trailing vehicle resulting in possible injury or death.
Noticed recently that the dashboard developed a crack near the air bag and extending forward to the windshield.. Vehicle was stationary.
The hinges that support the back window are separating from the hinges. This causes the entire window to realign and now there is a gap where you can feel and hear wind constantly. It looks like it could fall off at any moment. Occurred around 60,000 miles.

Rear window hinge broken passenger side.

Rear window hinge broke off from window frame on 2003 suburban.very rarely opened window by itself always opened entire hatch.can not find any recalls or complaints by gm but yet can find several 100 complaints by individuals.gm wants 1,000 to fix.it is obviously a design flaw after paying $43,000 for it gm should step up. They will check the welds on rear window for a flaw but not the hatch part which is what breaks.have always bought chevrolet and this is the longest one i have owned but i will be heading to a different real soon.read about the window blowing out at highway speeds--guess we shouldn't care if it is blowing away from us--right.

Normal use for four years. The failure was the window on the rear hatch has mostly separated from the vehicle as the glue holding it on is no longer sufficient to hold it on. There is a gap at the bottom of the window where it is raising up, looking as if it could fly off and hit vehicles behind while driving. Nothing has been done yet to replace it as the cost is astronomical in the amount of $1200 quoted by the dealership where vehicle was purchased.

The red brake light is on. The abs module is not allowing the two rear brakes to work. The a/c control box in the dash blows hot air through the driver side only. In fl that is dangerous because of the heat already.

Speedometer reading incorrect when idle or moving.registers over 120 mph while traveling approx 40 mph.dealer made recall but limited to under 60,000 miles.i put on almost that amount of miles in the first year of ownership.chevy should just recall & repair period.
We have a 2003 suburban and the speedometer is failing to tell the correct speed it is going. This is an extreme safety issue that should be recalled by gm, i have always bought chevy/gm products but will reconsider when i trade in due to the lack of safety recalls when needed.
2003 chevrolet suburban speedometer quit working when vehicle had 55,000 miles.
Driving 65 mph on highway, speedometer creeps up to 90 mph. When i stop it stays at 30 mph, then creeps up to 90 again. Also oil gauge is pegged all the way to the right.
I was recently pulled over for speeding . The patrolman clocked my @68mph in a 45 mph speed zone. My speedometer showed 52 mph.now 2 weeks later it reads 75 mph parked in my drive.i can be driving 30 mph and my speedometer will read 105-100 mph or driving somewhere around 50-60 mph and it will be pegged out above 120 mph. I am reading on the internet and i'm not the only one having this problem.
I have a 2003 suburban with 72k miles. About 12 months ago, the rear window began making a whistling noise while driving. When i inspected it i found that the hinge on the passenger side had separated from the window. I have tried to go through gm with no avail. Their answer is "it shouldn't have happened", but they are not going to do anything about it.
The rear windows of the 2003 chevrolet suburban and tahoe automobiles (and presumably other model years as well) are simply glued to hinges. A great number of these windows have delaminated from the hinges. I was told by the chevrolet service advisor two days ago (when i took my suburban in for replacement of the rear window) that he has seen a large number of the window delaminations. He further advised me that if both hinges delaminate (which will eventually occur due to the extra weight being placed on a remaining hinge) that the window will separate from the automobile. If this occurs at high speed the consequences could be fatal for the automobile following behind.the service advisor stated that there should have already been a recall on the rear windows of suburbans and tahoes.
I just started leasing the vehicle from quality auto that says that the car is road ready but have lots of hazardous things to it a very bad gas leak that there taking there time to fix and my hood of my car won't stay down ...it's 7 days into my car lease and there promises have been broken and won't trade me another car .
Rear window of our suburban is ready fall out. This would not injure us, but would be devastating to cars following us. General motors knows of this defect as they changed the design of the rear window in the following two years. Their response to my complaint was that a fix was available through safe lite, but not performed by chevrolet.
Read about the window blowing out at highway speeds--guess we shouldn't care if it is blowing away from us--right.
