I was on my way to work on 1/25/2013. Coming through an intersection i was struck on the drivers side by an 18 wheeler. I woke up in the hospital almost a month later. Pictures of my vehicle show that my airbags did not deploy. Good thing i had my seat belt on. Md say the bruising to heart other internal injuries would have been prevented had airbags deployed.

While travelling on the highway at approximately 50 mph, vehicle struck an adult deer - front end square hit offset to passenger side. Front passenger lights, grill, radiator supports, bumper, side fender, and hood all severely damaged. Airbags did not deploy. Damage to the vehicle ended up at $4,386.

On january 29, 2014, my husband was driving my suburban traveling on a snow and icy road when the suburban begin to spin and went down an embankment. He was trapped in the vehicle between the steering wheel and windshield. He was wearing the shoulder and lap belt.the air bags did not deploy. Two other passengers in the vehicle had only minor injuries. The tennessee traffic report i received stated: airbag available-no deployment.

Went to start my 2001 chevy suburban and it wouldn't start. I listened for the fuel pump to engage and it wasn't working. I checked the relay and noticed it was melted on one corner.i have researched this online and found several complaints about the same problem.also noticed that gm has done nothing to fix this issue. I have been a gm fan all my life and would like to continue being one. Please recall this on going problem gm.

Driving on highway at 75mph battery, security and low fuel popped on into message center. Gas gauge, volt meter, and temperature gauge quit working, had to pull off the side of the highway because of it almost got hit. I know numerous people with same issue.

While backing out of driveway, our 2001 chevy suburban 1500 began smoking from under the driver's seat.as i parked to investigate, flames began to came out from under the seat and i put out the fire with a water hose.the fire seems to initiate from the wiring for the seat control. Left minor damage under the seat, burnt rug and water log from putting the fire out.insurance company to follow up investigation.

Abs recall 05068, clean & inspect wheel sensors, 18 nov 2005. Abs & traction control warning lights on,16 jun 2006 (55977 miles). Dealer diagnostic code c0265, ecbm ($925.59 part) and also bpmv ($761.14 part) plus approx 2hrs labor. I asked if it would be safe to disconnect the pump from the abs system until i could see if the recall would cover this cost, it hasn't happened as of this date. The vehicle has been in operation since this system failure. I now have learned that the relay on the ebcm that controls the power has contacts that weld closed which causes the pump to run continuously. I asked if i could have the old part when i get it fixed and was told no because it must be returned. I also feel that when i was told it may also needthe bpmv that the check valve holding the pump pressure could be the true cause of system failure. I feel that people that buy this safety feature should have it work for the life of the vehicle. I also know that the repair costs have since gone up.

When vehicle is idling while not moving extreme amounts of exhaust fumes are entering the cabin area through the ventilation system. This is due to defective exhaust manifold bolts which are breaking allowing the exhaust manifold to open and allow fumes to enter the engine compartment which results in the exhaust fumes entering the passenger cabin area through the ventilation system. This is a health issue for passengers inside the cabin breathing the toxic exhaust fumes. This should be a safety recall on gm to fix the problem due to poor engineering design and for using poor quality components which fail for no reason. Also this is an extremely dangerous situation for passengers inside the vehicle, which have to breath the dangerous exhaust fumes. Gm should be made to repair all vehicles affected by this problem which were designed and engineered with inferior parts which are causing this dangerous situation for millions of people across this country.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500. While driving at 65 mph, the engine stalled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000. Updated 7/28/15updated 10/18/2017

Exhaust bolts broken and causing a leak making the vehicle unable to pass emissions also.steering stabilizers broken.

The check engine light came on, on my 2001 suburban at 29,000 miles.this was my dads vehicle and was garage kept and driven on trips or to church in rural texas, which is why after 8 years it only had 29,000 miles.i had it scanned at auto zone.a #1 cylinder misfire was detected.i moved the coil, spark plug, and wire to other cylinders to isolate the problem.the scan still detected #1 cylinder misfire even after driving over 50 miles.the misfire was not detectable by the way the truck was running.i went ahead and replaced the injector on that cylinder just to rule it out.once again after over 50 miles of driving it still scanned as a #1 cylinder misfire.i had planned on taking it to the dealer on monday, august 24, 2009.on saturday, august 22, 2009 my wife and daughter were on their way back to the house and the truck died driving down the freeway.they were able to restart it and limp home.i found no compression on the #1 cylinder and took off the rocker arm cover to find a broken spring on the exhaust valve.had it only been 3 years old it would have been under warranty.this seems to be a bad spring bad luck story.i was curious to know if others encountered the same problem or did the black cloud just dwell over me.since i can repair it myself i am.this problem might have happened to others without their knowledge since they had it repaired by the dealer.the cost to me for parts is about $350.the greatest cost was gaskets.repair at a dealer would be between $1500 and $5000i'm sure (there was a bent valve i replaced, and a mark on the piston i am leaving alone, i'm not sure they would repair just what was needed or go further).it is disheartening when something that should not happen does.there is more i would like to vent here but that is not the purpose of my complaint.i just wanted the complaint registered somewhere.thanks.

Noticed no bolt head on drivers side rear exhaust manifold, was not sure if it was supposed to be there. Then found another bolt head in skid guard during oil change, this was from the front bolt of same exhaust manifold! the heads broke off cleanly for no visible reason. Fixed front bolt but rear one requires exhaust manifold removal at cost of $400.00. This could be very dangerous if more break!

2001 chevy suburban fuel gauge reading empty when it is not empty. Smell of fuel and burning coming from car. Fuel gauge floating, shoeing empty, full, half full. *ln

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500.in august of 2004, at 99,551 miles, the engine stalled while driving 55 mph.the vehicle shut off suddenly and was towed to a repair shop.the contact paid for the fuel pump and fuel filter to be replaced.in july of 2008, the fuel pump and fuel filter were replaced for the second time.the failure involved two defective fuel pumps that were placed on the vehicle.the first was replaced by a second defective pump.after the second replacement, the fuel pump failed again and the shop reimbursed the contact.the manufacturer did not assist.the contact decided to purchase a fourth fuel pump that was installed by an independent repair shop on july 1, 2008.there had been no other failures because the vehicle cannot have less than a quarter of a tank of fuel.otherwise, there will be failures with the engine cranking and stalling due to the pump losing pressure from the lack of fuel circulation.the current and failure mileages were 188,000.

Since my last major repair which was july 2010 when my radiator and timing belt had malfunction, which i paid $653.34 for repairs, the surburban began to stall after my last oil change at the dealership which was 10/04/2011. The vehicle would stall each time the ignition key was turned, then it would stall completely after a couple of tries. Now, the 2001 suburban 1500 vehicle of mine would have afuel leakage and the engine stalls with no restart.i told the dealership after my oil change this problem occurred right as we were leaving the dealership, but my husband and i were told it was due to the recent oil change. Now the problem still exist with no restart and the dealership said to bring it back with a $90 fee to examine the vehicle which they believe its the fuel pump. I believe this should've been observed the day of the oil change when we initially observe the problem. It seems each time we have the vehicle oil change a problem occur the same day, inwhich its costly to us. This problem continues to exist now with no start and the dealership charges us each time after the oil change to determine what the problem is which as previously stated, occurs after each timely oil change.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500.while driving less than 35 mph, the vehicle stalled.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the dealer stated that the fuel pump and filter failed and could be replaced at an estimated cost of $1,100.the failure and current mileages were 130,000.

Dt*: the contact stated a noise was heard and the vehicle hesitated while traveling various speeds.a nhtsa recall #05v155000 concerning the fuel pump was performed on the vehicle a year ago.a leak was now noticed under the vehicle in the driveway.it was taken to the dealer, who determined the fuel pump needed to be replaced however; it was not covered by an update of the recall.

Steering, fuel pump module, wires connectors. I took it in to fix but i had to pay for it $ 1.054 why if there's a recall on it that was just for thefuel pump moduel call me about this

My 2001 suburban completely shuts off and the steering stops when i am at speeds below 10 mph, if i am making a turn, backing out of my driveway, or come to a stop at a stop sign. I took it to many places to have it tested and they all stated that everything is fine nothing was detected. I have had the fuel pump replaced by dealership when it just completely stopped running on the highway. I am at a loss for words and this is dangerous when it is the only car you have to haul yourself and kids around in. This is happening everyday and it seems that i am not the only one having this problem. This is a serious problem for americans trying to make an honest living.

Consumer wants to be reimbursed for recall work performed on his 2001 chevy suburban. Manufacturer denied his claim to be reimbursed.the consumer had already had the work done regarding the fuel pump prior to the recall.

Engineshuts off during first initial run. If i leave the house and get to the stop sign. It will shut off. Even after the first few minutes of driving when i try to turn it will shut off. After the engine runs a while it operates normally.

2001 chevy suburban with vortec 5.3 l engine.during hot days or warm engine, the throttle sticks in "idle" position, requiring significantly heavier pressure on the accelerator pedal resulting in a sudden and uncontrollable acceleration when it releases for the stuck "idle" position.this event occurs at irregular intervals, on the vortec 5.3 engine, as a relative has a similar problem with the chevy pickup and the same 2001 5.3 vortec engine.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500.the contact stated that the vehicle was shifted into drive and the vehicle failed to move forward. The contact also stated that the brake warning light illuminated. On another occasion while driving at approximately 5 mph, the engine stalled without warning.the failure recurred multiple times.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced.the mechanic also stated that the anti lock brake system failed and unknown parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired for the anti lock brake system failure but the fuel pump was not replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 05v155000 (fuel system, gasoline).the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the fuel pump was disabled and the odor of fuel was present. Also, the contact indicated that the fuel gauge displayed inaccurate fuel levels while operating the vehicle and the service engine sensor light had illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v155000 (fuel system, gasoline). The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 260,000.

Emergency brake went out for no reason.we have never used emergency brake since owning the car in 2001.

I own a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500 2wd 5.3l v8 with automatic transmission.this vehicle was bought new and from day one, the emergency brake has been completely ineffective in holding the vehicle when applied.a cursory check on the internet reveals that this is a widespread and very well-known problem for owners of similar gm vehicles. Visits to two separate gm dealerships in dallas confirm that the dealers know of this as a widespread and well-known problem as well.oddly, the nhtsa had a chance to review this vehicle safety defect at the request of the north carolina consumer council back in 2005, yet the nhtsa decided at the time that this defect did not warrant a safety recall.the summary concludes that for auto-transmission-equipped vehicles, the presence of a "park pawl" serves as sufficient holding power for these vehicles and therefore the appeal for a safety recall was denied. There is at least one major problem with this conclusion -- no state is going to allow a vehicle without a working parking brake to pass a state safety inspection.i know this first hand, at least in texas i do.it of course makes no sense for the nhtsa to have a different standard of vehicle safety than the constituent states do.either this is an issue worthy of a national safety recall, or the lack of a working parking brake should not serve as a vehicle for failure of a state safety inspection.

The parking brakes have failed and unable to restrict movement of the vehicle.this was discovered while a safety inspection was performed.the cost to repair the parking brake system is extensive.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500.upon inspection of the vehicle, the emergency brake did not function and the vehicle failed inspection.there is an open and closed investigation regarding this failure.the vin and investigation number were unknown.the failure mileage was 68,000.

Parking brakes fails to work.tried to adjust.did everything short of replacing to whole thing.i did not work from day one.

Parking brake, failure to disengage or indicate that the brake was engaged, leading to wear of the rear rotor/drum,and requiring replacement. Replaced once, only to have it happen again. Parking brake wasa safety feature that should be subject to recall.

I was driving my 2001 suburban and when i stepped on the brakes, the pedal went to the floor. No warning or brake light came on. I was able to limp the truck home and i saw the rear axle was wet with brakefluid. The left rear brake line had rotted and broke. The truck is very well kept up and i always pressure wash the undercarriage after the snow & winter.

2001 chevy suburban 1500 lt, 5.7 stalling problem.stalls at low idle rounding corners, and in parking lots entering and exiting space.runs fine at normal speed.no stalling during regular highway speed driving unless slowing to round a corner.

I have a 2001 1500 chevy suburban that i purchased brand new.it was 109,000 miles on it.my transmission went out with no warning at 50,000 miles. We fought with dealership and manufacturer and had them replace it with a new one.well guess what? i haveappr. 59,000 on this transmission and it just went out on us on our thanksgiving trip. We were 4 hrs. From home when it started going out. When we were 3 hrs. From home we lost 3rd gear and drove in 2nd at 40 miles per hr. Stopping several times along the way to let it cool down. We made it 2 hrs from home and made the decisionto park it somewhere it will be safe to leave it overnight.thank god our son was following us in his vehicle to give us a ride home.the following day we had to return to tow it home.i am beyond livid. This vehicle is only driven in town and the occasional vacation or road trip.it has a tow pkg but hasn't been used to pull things.it has always been meticulously maintained by my husband that is a mechanic.this vehicle has never been misused or abused. So what is the problem with chevrolet suburban's?we have had absolutely no other issues with it and have loved this vehicle. I have researched and noticed i am not the only one with this issue.. What is the problem? how does chevrolet plan on handling this issue?three transmissions in one vehicle with that low of mileage is ridiculous. Chevrolet you are producing faulty products.there is no excuse for 2 transmissions going on a 3rd, in a vehicle with that low of mileage... Third transmission, really?i have always loved and promoted chevrolet, but not any more.the taxpayers bailed chevrolet out of bankruptcy and you still screw over the consumer.if anyone else has had any issues like this please let me know.i am furious that i have to have a 3rd, yes 3rd transmission in a vehicle with under 110,000 miles on it....

I was driving on the nj turnpike near exit 10, travelling to boston.ahead, all traffic was stopped in both the inner and outer set of lanes.as i decelerated, i heard a noise and the truck jerked slightly.when i tried to pull off the road into the service lane, i had no transmission and had to drift to the shoulder.i was told there was a catastrophic failure of the transmission and it had to be completely rebuilt (under warranty).when the vehicle had around 70,000 miles (about 2 years ago, 2013), the transmission failed again and had to be completely rebuilt again. Pathetic.the vehicle currently has 83,000 mi on it.

I have a 2001 chevy suburban and this is the 5th. Transmission i have put in the vehicle.the transmission first failed at 15,339 miles and was repaired under warranty.at 50,525 miles it failed again and cost me $1802.94 to fix.at 62,823 it failed again and a chevrolet dealer in oklahoma repaired it,for $2279.24, and gave it a one year warranty.11 months and 10800 miles later it failed again. This time the chevy dealer in missouri wants $1600 to repair it and said the same exact parts did not fail so the one year warranty does not apply!!!!!!!!this vehicle is driven by my wife around town.all of a sudden you loose power.

I own a 2001 chevy suburban 1500, the middle row bench seat is a 70/30 split. The bottom ( part you sit on) of the larger side (behind drivers seat to middle of vehicle) will not stay latched or "locked" into place. I contacted gm and they said that since my suburban has more than 100,000 miles on itthey are not responsible for any issues or defects. Very frustrating! this is a total safety concern, specially since i have four children who ride in this truck!

I have a 2001 chevy suburban 1500while going over a speed bump at the speed of 20mph the lumbar support in my driver's seat "popped". We heard a very loud exploding sound and at the same time i felt a extreme pressure and pain in my lower back... I now have lower back pain a day later.

The brakes failed and the pedal last all pressure and went to the floor.was successful in stopping the vehicle from 35 mph without incident.upon inspection, the rear driver's side brake line was severely corroded and failed.further inspection showed that other brake line are in the similar condition.*ln

I pulled into a parking lot and proceeded to park my suburban. I hit the brake pedal and the brakes did not work. They pulsate and gave out completely. No service lights or warning light came on previous to the incident. When the brakes didn't work i tried to pump them to get them to work but nothing worked and my suburban smashed into a bush and over the curb. I just had my brake lines replaces which was quoted $1700 at my local chevrolet dealership. I am no looking into the issues with the abs system.

While making a sudden stop, a hydraulic line serving the front brakes ruptured causing complete loss of front brakes. This is the third hydraulic brake line failure on this vehicle. The first two lines to fail were on the rear axle. All of the remaining hydraulic brake lines are heavily rusted and pitted, they all are at risk of failure at any time. This problem is widespread on this year and model vehicle. It poses a serious risk to the drivers and to the persons and property of others. Every one of the owners should be notified that their vehicle may require replacement brake lines. Whose responsibility it shall be is up to nhtsa, but the need for information is great. This is a heavy weight vehicle for ordinary consumer use. Most such users are unprepared for a brake failure of this kind. Interestingly, gm does not offer replacement parts. Precision formed lines are available on the aftermarket. The local chevy dealer uses non-corroding copper-nickel replacement line, and fabricates the lines locally. The same brake line metallurgy was used in high end european cars (volvo and porsche) beginning in the 1980s.

Moving my boat in the driveway and when i went to stop my brake line from the master cylinder to the abs controller failed causing no braking!!!pumped them like crazy and it just pissed out all of the fluid.i had my children playing in the area and i was fortunate that they were not killed!upon inspection the brake line rotted at the points where they are held onto the frame by the hangers!this is incredibly dangerous and i believe that gm should have some liability in this matter.the vehicle is barely just over 10 years old and this is a major flaw in design.the scary part is the lines look great overall but where they are placed in all of the hangers they had rot spots in them that was only apparent after dis-assembly.a normal safety inspection would not pick up on the corrosion hidden within the hangers.

Chevrolet has continued to ignore the abs brake issue within the brake control module. This is separate from their wheel sensor issue.the brake control module.has a circuit board issue which deactivates the abs system and shows a brake and abs light on dash.in snow today my abs failed and i slid through an intersection narrowly missing a school bus a f$%^ing school bus.there is so much info on this issue on the internet but chevrolet seem to be ignoring it.the problem is centered around a circuit board in the brake control module.

I was slowing for a stop sign while leaving a parking lot when the steel rear brake line spontaneously split and dumped all line pressure. The brake pedal went straight to the floor, and i rolled right into traffic before i was able to pump the pedal enough times to stop the vehicle against a curb. Had i neared the stop sign 2 seconds earlier or later, i would have either been t-boned by a box truck, or t-boned a small sedan.i emphasize that the brake lines showed no warning signs beyond the typical surface rust that can be found on any vehicle that has been driven for more than a few winters in the "rust belt".however, those vehicles do not have brake lines spontaneously fail at the rate that these gm trucks do.this truck's primary purpose is towing a camping trailer for vacations with my young family, so this could have ended very differently.i urge you to take gm to task and force them to fix their mistake of cheaping out on brake line materials!

This issue occurred in july of 2016 while we were on vacation in florida. We began to lose braking ability until finally the vehicle became almost inoperable, only able to travel at about 20 mph and still be able to stop without hitting anything. One of the steel brakes lines had blown a hole in it. We had a shop repair it and when they tested it, it blew another line. We ended up having all the lines replaced because of the level of corrosion.

While driving on the highway at 55mph i was near my exit and activated the brakes and the pedal went to the floor.i was fortunate to have the room to change lanes and pass my exit and downshifted to slow and eventually stop.i had tried to apply the parking brake and the cable snapped on the spot.after getting the car to a mechanic i was told that every brake line was corroded and most were failing.the mechanic also said it isn't recommended to replace just the leaking lines because once the pressure is restored, the remaining lines would then likely fail.the vehicle is currently in the shop and i am waiting for what i am sure will be a sizable repair bill.

Brake lines severely corroded and blew out. Severe corrosion under truck too.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that while performing routine maintenance on the vehicle, he attempted to engage the parking brake but the vehicle continued to move. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where it was confirmed that the emergency brake failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 115,700 and the current mileage was 115,736.

Complete break failure.break pedal went to floor and almost killed my family.noticed leaking break fluid coming out of rusted break line under vehicle.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was put on a lift and it was discovered that the brake line was corroded, causing a leak. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The contact called the ed bozarth chevrolet dealer (877-721-4901, 3731 sw topeka blvd, topeka, ks 66609) and was told that there was no recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 140,000. Consumer stated brake lines corroded and was leaking. Updated 12/18/18

I had a major brake failure the other day while driving.i had no brakes, but i was able to stop with the emergency brake.i had the truck towed to the mechanic and they reported that the brake failure was due to rusted brake lines.

I having a problem with my 2001 chevy suburban 1500 regarding the abs brake module control that failed, after resource its looks like many thousand of 2000-2002 have the same problem , i call gm and they saying their is no recall. If you check that issue would you think it should be a recall ?[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)the abs computer on my 2001 chevrolet suburban failed at just over 70,000 miles. I contacted chevy about this and was told it occurred often and that it wasn't covered.. I have searched the internet and have found numerous other complaints about this same issue and everyone thinks it should be a safety recall issue. Can you please investigate this and get back in touch with me?[xxx]

Initially purchased suburban with 61,000 mi. Had no problems with anything.i received a notice from gm for a recall on 2001's for activation of abs braking system at slow speeds.having no problems with it at the time i waited a few weeks before going to bergstrom chevy in neenah wi.i let them take the vehicle in the garage to do the recall work. 2 and a half hours later they called me from the waiting area and said it was ready.i drove away and continued to have no problems until approx. 14 months later when the abs started to activate at every stop at around 5mph.it continues to do this now and has since the summer of 2008.i contacted bergstrom and gm about the problem and they say they no longer do this recall work without charge. I looked at the bolt heads on the front brake calipers to see if they were marred by removal and there is no evidence that these bolts were ever removed for servicing the sensors. The facing of the bolts is still intact with no marking of any kind on these bolts so i am certain bergstrom never removed the calipers to clean the sensors. I am furious with gm and their products - i have always been a gm customer since beginning to drive in 1976 but with the products they've been producing in the last 10-15 years i will never buy another late model gm product.( i am also having issues with the intake manifold on my 1998 buick park ave - another inferior gm product) it's no wonder the company is having financial difficulty with all the complaints i've been hearing about and experiencing with their products.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph when the abs system activated independently. The contact stated that when the failure would occur, the vehicle would become increasingly difficult to stop. He called the manufacturer and was advised that his vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:anti lock). The vehicle was not repaired and the failure became progressively worse. The failure mileage was 108,650 and the current mileage was 111,821.

The abs system activated for no apparent reason, this is the first time it happened with just the pedal application, on dry pavement under 20 mph. Activated and increased stopping distance, while keeping pedal pressure on. Luckily i try not to follow cars closely. Have had similar problems when hitting a bump, which can activate abs system due to loss of wheel traction. It should not happen on dry pavement, and can cause an accident. Gm should address this problem, i did the previous recall but i still had the problem.

I have a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500.i had rear brakes and rotors replaced at 87813 miles in 02/08.at approximately 78713 miles the front brake pads were replaced.the vehicle now has approximately 104783 miles on it and the rear pads are gone and the rear rotors are warped.the front pads curiously still have 2/3 of the pad left.when going online i found a recall effecting the brake system of the vehicle nhtsa # 05v379000.doing my due diligence i called gm customer service about the problem and they stated that this particular recall is not open for the vin # of my vehicle.after reading the actual recall on your website it would appear my vehicle which is in fact registered in the state of ohio a "salt-belt" state which was one of the primary considerations for the recall.i am curious as to why the recall would not be in effect on my vehicle.does my vehicle first have to be involved in an accident causing injuries because of a brake failure before this will be addressed?no common car owner would suspect that after 15k miles rear brakes would need to be replaced and would more than likely continue driving the vehicle until there was a catastrophic brake failure that could lead to serious injury.i would like someone to get an explanation from general motors as to why this is not being addressed in these vehicles not supposedly affected by this recall.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban k1500. The contact stated that the abs braking system failed due to rust and a leak. While stopping at slow speeds, the brakes do not stop the vehicle and the pedal extended to the floorboard. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who replaced the abs control module; reprogrammed the computer, the front hubs and the bearings on both the right and left front wheels for $2,000. The vehicle was never taken to the dealer.the manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 78,000.

Service brakes,hydraulic,antilock.

Huge safety issue !!!!!!1.vehicle maine state inspection2. Two rear and side brake lines are severely rusted and will not pass state inspection3. Must replace brake lines; side line replacement requires removal of 30 gallon gas tank! have not yet repaired.

I own a 2001 chevy suburban. Yesterday, for the 2nd time since i have owned the vehicle the abs light came on and stayed on. When i got home and turned off the ignition, a noise that sounded like a generator was running under the truck. We disconnected the abs fuses both inside the truck and the engine to make the noise stop. Called chevy dealer and was informed that a bulletin has been issued about the abs system, but no recalls. Was also informed it would be $1500 to fix. I had it replaced the first time in 2005. A mechanic has told us that the abs pumps should never go bad.

2001 chevy suburban 1500 lt, abs problem.recurrence of failure of abs pump to deactivate.pump runs continuously until it burns up.replaced previously (not under warranty).over $1000. At this time the abs fuse is pulled so pump won't burn up again, but i have no antilock brakes.apparently a sensor or something is failing and causing an expensive repair.

Main brake line leak, located on top of chassis leading to rear brakes, leaked at clip point under passenger door where road salt residue can sit and corrode line. Line was also heavily rusted in other areas of line on top of chassis. Entire line needed to be replaced!

2001 chevrolet suburban brake failure due to corrosion on left rear brake line. I verified the corrosion by climbing under the truck to see what happened.this failure is not due to an accident with the truck nor has the brake line been crushed due to running over a large obstruction.the brakeline is located above the vehicle frame rail.no accident occurred due to this failure as it happened while exiting my driveway. I managed to stop the truck using my emergency brake. I understand there is a current investigation concerning this problem on chevy and gm trucks and suvs.i went to my local chevrolet dealers service department but was informed that as there is no recall the expense would not be covered by gm.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated that while attempting to park, the brakes were applied, but the pedal depressed to the floor. The vehicle continued to move forward until crashing into a median. As a result, the median moved and crashed into another vehicle head on. A police report was filed. An independent mechanic examined the vehicle and stated that the brakes lines were completely rusted through. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 110,000.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500. While driving approximately 20 mph, the brake pedal was engaged and the vehicle failed to reduce speed. The vehicle uncontrollably crashed into a building. There was no personal injury; however there were exterior damages to the building. The vehicle sustained minor damage. A police report was not filed of the incident. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the four brake lines and gear shifter cable were replaced. Also, the abs would need to be replaced. The vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock). The failure recurred after the repair. The abs had been replaced a total of seven times. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

After entering the parking lot of the local shopping center i applied the brake pedal to park in the marked space but the truck did not stop, the pedal travelall the way down but no breaking effect at all, fortunately that section of the lot was mostly empty and i let the truck roll to almost a stop, push the brake pedal again and did not stop so ended up using the parking brake to stop the truck. No warning light ever came on so i went to check the rubber hoses and brake lines under the truck finding a brake fluid dripping from the area under the driver's seat, close to a big rubber " doughnut " ( chassis mount ). I pushed the brake pedal and fluid sprayed again from that area. There are several brake pipes running to and from a sensor or equalizing valve mounted on the chassis in that area. After towing the truck home i went under it and follow the tubing leaving from that area to the front and the rear of the truck, and it is all rusted with the exception of the flexible hoses going to the calipers. I own two other cars ( not chevy's) that are older and used under the same conditions as the suburban and the brake piping looks like new on those, so i'm inclined to think this condition is particular to suburbans or chevrolet in general. Would this incident had not occurred in a parking lot it would have ended in an accident or a fatality. I'm calling the local chevy dealership monday to check for any outstanding recall for my truck but never received a recall notice. This truck was bought new and have always been used in maryland, the winters are not extreme here and my only theory for the excessive rusting is that the brake lines are too cheap. Truck will be parked indefinitely and available for inspection if requested.

Same symptoms as was subject of a recall to brakes done 09-06-06 (service ticket ctcs224790). Intermittent abs activation on slow speed stop that causes the stopping distance to increase. No slippery surface or tire skidding that would cause the activation.prior to the 2006 recall, these same symptoms had begun on the vehicle and gradually worsened. I took the vehicle to the dealer (damascus chevrolet 301-253-2151) on 8-24-07 (service ticket ctcs233310). Service writer butch eccard states the mechanic could find nothing wrong except one front backing plate touching the rotor. No code stored in the computer. Abs activation occurred two more times since the service.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500.the contact stated that the abs was engaging prematurely.while attempting to park the vehicle at 5 mph, the contact attempted to depress the brake pedal, but the vehicle did not stop.the vehicle crashed into the wall of his garage.the dealer repaired the front hubs and abs sensors for free and the contact was reimbursed for the damages made to his garage doors.shortly after the repairs were made, the manufacturer issued a recall on the same defect he experienced.the contact stated that the failure recurred at 87,000 miles.the abs light illuminated and the vehicle failed to come to a complete stop until a few seconds after the brake pedal was depressed.he called the manufacturer to notify them of the failure, but they were not willing to authorize the repair of the abs for free.the vin and recall number were unknown.the failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 87,000.

The nhtsa campaign id #l 05v379000 on my 2001 chevrolet suburban was performed in 2005 at the valenti auto mall in mystic, ct. The intent was to treat a gm recall no. 05068 to fix abs front hub sensors that would corrode.supposedly they did this at 85,000 miles in 2005. In 2009, i have been having recurring abs issues and they replaced the inaccurate sensor signal at $675. Recurring issues they now need to replace the passenger side sensor at $675.the issue is that the sensor recall did not solve the problem, gm has stated the customer must pay for the very issue the recall called out, which was corroded senor hub assemblies and the customer must pay.this has been a very dangerous condition that gm/chevrolet knew of and did not fix in an appropriate manner. The suburban barely does not stop well at all and is very dangerous.

Abs kicks in at speeds under 10 mph even after recall fix in oct 2005dealer kindly did a goodwill repair at minimal cost to me on 11/7/2007 i just want people to know this problem is recurring.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500. The contact stated that the anti-lock brake sensor would independently engage when driving at speeds of at least 10 mph. When the abs would activate it would cause an unusual increase in stopping distance. The contact previously received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic: anti-lock) but was advised by the dealer that because the vehicle was over 100,000 miles, they would not make repairs. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 113,000.

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling 55 mph, the vehicle's abs and parking lights illuminated.the vehicle was driven to the service dealer, where computer diagnostics identified the component failure as the service brake; electronic brake control module, had an internal failure. The service dealer mechanic also determined that the pump might damage a new module. The manufacturer was notified.

Ltr re his 2001 suburban which caught on fire after noticing the abs system sensor appearing on the dash board; seeking reimbursement for repairs.when the consumer attempted to start the vehicle, he discovered the battery was dead. After the consumer jump started the vehicle, that was when the vehicle caught on fire. The consumer had the vehicle towed and was informed the abs was bad, but it was not the cause of the fire. The cause was a computer system that had overheated as a result of the abs malfunction.the consumer had replaced the abs module previously.the dealer replaced the electronic brake control module and brake pressure modulator.

My wife was driving to work and the abs light came on.this was accompanied by a loud noise from underneath the suburban.after the car was shut off the loud noise persisted.she turned the car off and on several times and there was still a loud noise.she called me and i came over to her work and crawled under the car.i found that the electric motor on the electro-hydraulic control unit (ehcu) was constantly running and the unit was very hot.the only way to stop the unit from running was to disconnect the power harness.the ehcu is right next to the fuel filter and it was so hot that it could have caused a fire in the fuel line/fuel filter if i had not disconnected it.it might have also got hot enough to start the car interior on fire.there should be some sort of shut off mechanism when the ehcu fails.i talked to a number of mechanics and they said that the problem is normally with a relay in the ehcu and this causes the motor to run non-stop.they said this is a very common problem for 1999 + chevrolet silverado, gmc sierra, and the 2000 + chevrolet suburban/tahoe and the gmc yukon/yukon xl.they thought there was probably a recall on them but apparently there is not.the part is only available from the dealer and costs approximately $950.it takes almost two hours of labor to install it so the repair costs about $1150.the suburban is now in the shop being repaired.the car only has 51,000 miles and this module should not fail with such low miles and it should not cost nearly this much to repair.

The abs electronic module failed again today. This will be my second module.the first module failed in 2004 and was replaced. The cost of replacing these has risen to over $1200.00 a pop. Why doesn't nhtsa investigate these failures? this module failure results in no abs when you need it in a crisis situation.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500.when attempting to make a right turn, the steeringfroze and then corrected itself.there were no warning indicators.the vehicle has not been diagnosed.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage is 131,186 and failure mileage was 98,000.

When making sharp turns at low speed power steering fails. This has happened at least 25 times. Brought truck to mechanic and he has checked belts and fluids and says he doesn't see anything wrong with those items. Sometimes when i am driving i feel like steering is extremely loose.

Exhaust bolts broken and causing a leak making the vehicle unable to pass emissions also.steering stabilizers broken.

The 2001 suburban's body frame and front wheel wells are poorly designed in that they allow extensive amounts of water spray from flooded roadways to saturate the windshield while driving, causing the drivers view of the road to be completely obstructed creating an unsafe driving environment.

I have suburban 2001, the rear window (tailgate window) glass separated from the hinges suddenly. This is common problem in gm suburbans and i am afraid this may result in a serious accident as the tailgate window may separate, fly off and hit something. I am not sure if the window will fly off, mine was hanging from one hinge until i corrected it.

I purchused 2001 suburban and tried to contact the recall people at 18006302438 about recall #54628-05v379000.they told me that they could not help me because the service already been done. But the vehicle is doing the same thing the recall said its doing.

The spare tire assembly's steel wire broke while spare tire was stored under the truck.this occurred while backing the vehicle out of the driveway.

Driving on highway at 75mph battery, security and low fuel popped on into message center. Gas gauge, volt meter, and temperature gauge quit working, had to pull off the side of the highway because of it almost got hit. I know numerous people with same issue.

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500.the contact stated that the accelerator pedal would stick during the initial starting.the failure generally occurred during warm weather.as of december 11, 2007, the dealer had not inspected the vehicle.the failure mileage was 68,000 and current mileage was 78,000. 24 hours previous the driver side window switch made a clicking sound. The car then caught on fire at the door, burning to the frame.

The auto-dimming heated mirror on my 2001 chevy suburban suddenly cracked after bumping into the side of my garage door.the mirror immediately started dripping a green substance on the driveway.i started to clean up this substance with my bare hands which caused a burning sensation.i then noticed that the green liquid was discoloring/melting the paint on the side of my vehicle and eating the concrete in my driveway.i sprayed the areas down with water and found the paint on my vehicle damaged.my skin became very red and irritated after contacting this material.i can not believe that gm could knowingly sell a product to the public with no warning of any kind.theblack plastic housing of the outside of the mirror also has melted due to contact with the material.i want to know what this material is and what health problems i can expect to have due to my direct contact.i want to have access to an msds report for unknown material.this is a very caustic chemical.

I was driving on the highway 95 coming back from daytona when a driver let me know that my tires where low so i when to a gas station to put some air in and thats when i notice that my tires had a lot of nails lthe 4 tires. This is ridiculous. My tires are lnot even 2 yearsold and i have the receipt to prove it. Someone has to do something. Because i have a new born baby with me and driving with flat tires is notan option. Please take my complaint in consideraration. Thank you

The contact owns a 2001 chevrolet suburban 1500.the contact stated that three of the four wheels have failed on the vehicle.the welds detached from one of the rims and caused a flat tire.thecontact stated that the vehicle began to vibrate.the contact has pictures of the vehicle.the current mileage is 141,352 and failure mileage was 106,532.the consumer states that the vehicle is owned by middleburgh central school. The consumer provided copy of invoice. Update 05/23/07
