After i put 55$ worth of gas in the truck it would not start. I waited about 5-10 minutes and it finally started.however,as i was driving, not even 5 miles from the gas station, the vehicle shut off at 45 mph. I pulled over and kept trying to start the truck. It was crankingbut would not start. After about 5-10 minutes truck did start right back up.then, not even another 5 miles the truck shut off again. This time i waited 20 minutes and the truck started right back up.i left it parked for about 5 wks then had the camshaftsensor replaced as well as the fuel pump and the fuel filter replaced, only this time the service engine light was in once these 3 parts were replaced. Service engine light was never on before these issues.ive had it scanned and it read 5 different codes, including the cam shaft sensor, speed sensors on both left and right side along with 2 more that weren't given to me. Drove it a short distance (7 miles)& it shut of again 55 mph on a busy street.had the codes cleared and drove it short distances in the last 3 days and today when i pulled up to a redlight it began acting as if it were gonna shut off.i came back home and parked it and dont plan on driving anywhere else until someone can give me an exact answer to the problem and i have it fixed!! i was told by 2 mechanics that they couldnt find an issue!!

The intake manifold cracked on the 1999 chevy 1500(suburban) and let water get into the firing chamber from the cooling system. It happened in 2002 at about 60,000 and again at 2008 at about 110,000... I was told by my mechanic that it was a plastic component that warbles when it heats and cools over time and cracks. It cost over $1000. To replace it each time it cracks. Is there a recall or any way i can get any money from gm for this poorly designed part???is there a recall or service bulletin out on the problem?????

I am having the same problem that the person stated about the abs braking on her 99...even when my truck was still under warrenty the dealer said nothing was wrong and blamed it on the way i drove...like he knows how i drive!!!....i did find that their wasrecall on othem and the dealer said my truck was not included ..in it ...well it should have been and should be...doesnt matter the conditions of the road they kick in whenever they feel like it..once it happened and i slid right out into on coming traffic and i was still told nothing was wrong...i think that the dealer never cared....i have 104th on my truck now at 102th i replaced then engine due to 2 broken lifters....i also have a trannie problem while under warrenty and again the dealer refused to admit a problem and i brought it to a aaa cert. Shop and they too also refused that there was a problem...2 1/2 months after the warrenty expired i completly lost my transmission and had my children in the truck when it happened!!!..and again the shops that i went to both still wouldn't acknowledge there was a problem and said i was a problem customer!!! i complained to the warrently place and they too did nothing about .... Remind me again why we have warrenties!!! this started in 2002 with these issues and the dealer refused to take back the vehicle!! and now in 2009 i still have issues with the abs.

While still accelerating after entering freeway traffic from a gently ascending freeway on ramp, this 1999 chevrolet suburban (100k miles) very suddenly began to loose power and shake (not vibrate) violently.although the engine did not completely stall, the vehicle decelerated very quickly, and there was a clear sensation that power steering and power brakes were becoming inoperable.this was very dangerous, as this freeway on ramp leads directly onto the #1 lane of the freeway, and there was no shoulder.an odbii code scanner indicated code p0300 (multiple cylinder misfire).the vehicle was towed to a gm dealership who advises that a valve stem has broken in cylinder 5.repairs have been quoted at $2000 to $3000 on a vehicle touted as "heavy duty" who's primary use is taking toddlers school and grocery shopping.the vehicle remains un-repaired because of the cost.this is inexcusable at a mere 100k miles.

I am constantly changing the passenger side back reverse & brake light.they go out 3 to 4 times a year.i see alot of other same model cars on the road with that same light out!!!!!is there a recall on this problem you can refer me to the correct party to contact.

Safety concern - no accident - 99 chevy suburban fuel pump failure.i change the pump.when i looked at the old pump i noticed the hot wire to the fuel pump inside the fuel tank had insulation melted near the top connection.i disassembled the connection and found it had been arcing inside the fuel tank.i have the fuel pump is you want to see it.9note:i sent a note to gm on the matter and only received a form letter e-mail in response).

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet suburban 6.5 diesel.when driving between 35-65 mph the engine will stall, especially on an incline.the fuel injectors and pump were replaced by the dealer.after the repair the failure resurfaced.since the warranty expired he was ineligible for a free remedy.thecurrent mileage was 147,000. The failure mileage was 97,000. Updated 11/17/09the injector pump needed to be replaced which had internal failure. Updated 11/18/09

Brake lines rusted through front passenger side causing minor accident dec 2015separate incident:: high-pressure fuel line rusted through causing fuel to spray around the front of gas tank area unnoticed for 2 trips. Thankfully no fire resulted.

I am unable to open my door from inside the vehicle (1999 chevrolet suburban)it appears that whatever mechanism is inside the door itself is broken (i.e., whatever holds connects the handle to the opening mechanism.i have to open my window every single time in order to reach outside of the car and open it from the outside.no repairs have been made to date since i can't afford a body shop repair bill.

1999 chevy suburban: passenger side back door, difficulty in opening door from the inside, have to roll window down and open from outside, seems to jam/get stuck and won't open!!!this happens quit frequently...

About once every 7-8 months the power door locks on my 1999 chevrolet suburban k1500 fail.when this occurs the doors do not open from the inside or from the outside at times.in case of a fire or accident you can remain trapped inside.i have replaced them several times.the five actuators from ac delco take turns going bad.i have replaced them at least 2x in the two years i have owned the truck.

My family has a 1999 chevy suburban.the rear passenger door lock has seized. We have four kids and we feel that this is a considerable safety hazard.in the event of some sort of accident access to every exit is key.i have done some research and this seems to be a common problem with this vehicle.this first occurred about 18 months ago, but fixed itself after two or three unlockings, now it appears to be completely inoperable.

I purchased 2 1999 chevy suburban , i had to replaced both rear end, rear end seal , and my transmission is bumping into 2nd geari have always purchasedchevrolet vehiclefor my entire family . I have spent over 3, 000 dollars between both suburban , i would like to know what is the problem with the 1999 suburban , i had to have both trucks towed . How much more would i have to spend before the chevrolet manufacturer realized that these are some defective partsin that year model.

The sealtbelt restraint locking system is faulty and this had to have been known during and after vehicle production .the seatbelts with passengers trrdtraunef travels to far forward which would end up in death or very bad head and neck injuries because the seatbelts do not lock when brakes are applied hard or forward momentum is stopped very suddenly! i have tried to cause a lock action by pulling on seatbelts very quickly and forcefully with vehicle sitting parked and also while driving to slam the brakes to cause a fast lock on seatbelts and no affect was apparent to safely restrain adultsadults, children,or even newborns in the car seatseat.this is unsafe and with airbag system in the front driver and passenger side this will lead to death in the event of a crash!

Seabelts on this model seem to not work as they should.in the event of a collision, or a quick stopseatbelts don'tstop the passengers in vehicle until seat belt is fully extended.all other vehicles that i own work fineand locking mechanism for seatbelts work as designed.these seabelts on this chevrolet suburban are not performing as required and the locking mechanism seems to be faulty.currently there is a recall for this model/vin # vehicle but it only convers the passenger restraint system in regards to the neck extension.my concern is that all seatbelts on this vehicle could be faulty too and could injure all passangers in a collision.request to have manufacture do a one time inspection on seatbelts to determine if indeed locking mechanisms on these models are faulty at not cost to the comsumer.

Drivers side seat heater on, started smoking/smoldering, burned through seat leather.

Brake lines rusted through front passenger side causing minor accident dec 2015separate incident:: high-pressure fuel line rusted through causing fuel to spray around the front of gas tank area unnoticed for 2 trips. Thankfully no fire resulted.

While traveling at very slow speeds, i have noticed that the vehicle takes longer than usual to stop.when i apply the brakes the vehicle will continue to move before coming to a complete stop.brakes are in good condition, brake fluid is at the right level and it is not leaking any brkae fluid at all.the vehicle takes longer to stop and could cause an accident if not inspected by manufacturer.request a one time inspection on barake system on this model and any other model that uses the same brake/parts for braking systems.there is a nhtsa recall # 05v379000 pertaining to the hydraulic antilock brakes, howver some vin#s are not included in this recall even though my vehicle is experiencing the same symptoms and seem to get worse.

I was turning left into a parking lot in dry weather and the anti-lock brakes kicked in when they should not have.i complained about this previously, but was not aware that this should not have happened and my complaint stated that they did not work properly when they came on almost causing a wreck.this has happened several times since, most recently yesterday.i was trying to stop at 8 mph, the abs came on, they pulled my vehicle to the left, and i have 106,870 miles on her now.my brake pedals is going lower to the floorboard each year and i have been told that this is normal and it cannot be adjusted!my master cylinder is not leaking, nor is my brake fluid at this time.i have had my front calipers replaced twice!i maintain my vehicle and have a lot of money put in my black beauty, with repair records to show for it.i have my children and friends ride with me and do not want to injure/kill them or anyone, myself included!you need to do something about this!

Driving on interstate and was slowing down to exit onto off-ramp. Brakes went to floor. Was able to coast and use emergency brake to stop vehicle. After getting the vehicle home, found the right back metal brake line was leaking with a hole in it and was rusted.never had a brake line rust and go bad in 60 years. I saw there is a investigation with the chevy brake lines corroding.

Brakes do not seem to be as affective as they should be.it takes a long distance to get the vehicle stopped. We have had the brakes replaced and even the master cylinder but does not seem to affect the stopping power of the brakes.the brakes just don't seem to be working the way they should be for this vehicle.

The suv does not stop and the abs activates when coming to a stop (approximately 5 mph).i noticed there is gm recall no. 05068 but my model is not included.that is strange because all of the suv and pickup trucks around that time are included, my model is not.abs light sometimes is on and sometimes not during these episodes.this safety issue happens periodically over many years with this vehicle.

Vehicle is a 1999 chevrolet suburban k1500.vehicle was purchased used on february 19, 2009 with 91,437 miles and has the corrosion and abs activation problem described in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000.chevrolet has advised that this specific vehicle was not included in this campaign.i believe the omission of this vehicle from the campaign is inappropriate.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet surburban 1500. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, he applied the brakes and the pedal depressed to the floor. The vehicle coasted to a stop. Upon exiting the vehicle, the contact noticed that there was a brake fluid leak. More brake fluied was added and the vehicle was driven home. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed. The failure mileage was 59,000.

July 21, 2010 my 1999 chevrolet suburban's brakes failed under normal usage at a traffic light, resulting in extreme loss of brake effectiveness.it was safely parked without injury or accident. A brake line failed draining the brake fluid.the rest of the braking system has been maintained and was in working order.the burst failure of the hydraulic brake tubing was due to corrosion. The vehicle has 201,400 miles, mostly in the louisville area, which is not an aggressive corrosion environment. I had it towed to a chevrolet dealer. After inspection, the service manager recommended all brake lines be replaced due to corrosion, not just the one that failed. The tow and repair cost $1105.i have documentation and failed parts.this unacceptable safety failure is design - manufacturing related and should be recalled; the repair costs should covered by chevrolet.there is high potential for injury/accidents.i want to be reimbursed for my cost to repair the corrosion brake line failure.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet suburban. The contact stated when the brakes were applied at a low speeds the antilock system came on and caused the brakes to fail. While driving 60 mph the power steering failed. There was a plastic electronic variable orifice ring with wires attached to the steering sensor which caused the steering to be uncontrollable when driving.the dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer stated that there were no recalls for his vin on any of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 197,000.

Anti-lock braking system on 1999 chevrolet suburban 1500.this vehicle has the exact same symptoms as the recall of pe-05020 and 05v379000.low speed activation of the anti lock abs.general motors states"the vehicle in question is not on the recall, it was manufactured in mexico".correction to the reported recall on 2000 to 2002 models is for the "dealer" to clean apply anti rust and then grease to the hub and reluctor.the recall and correction however does not apply to the 1999 chrevolet suburban even thought the vehicle is used in the "salt belt".low speed activation can and may lead to increased stopping distance and a crash.the dealers refuse to correct teh porblem due to the 1999 chevrolet suburban is no on recall.the vehicle has exact same problems as the 200 to 2002.

I started up my 1999 chevy suburban in my driveway this afternoon and the brake pedal went to the floor.i opened the hood and noticed brake fluid splattered all over the area below the master cylinder and all over the ground.i discovered that the line to the left front wheel rusted to the point of failure.i checked the other brake lines and they are badly corroded.this truck has never left me stranded in 13 years.i do not want to see it go, but this may be the end.also, a little over 1 year ago, i sold my 2005 tahoe to a man who told me he had a 1999 tahoe.he was buying my tahoe because the brakes lines on his had corroded and ruptured.he was careful to climb all around and under my tahoe to check for brake line corrosion before buying.i just researched this problem, and it appears to be common.many of these trucks are still on the road.how many will have to be killed before anything is done about it?

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet suburban 1500.the contact stated that on 50 separate occasions, while approaching a red light or stop sign, the abs engages and extends the stopping distance of the vehicle.the failure also occurs while driving less than 5 mph or when the brake pedal is not depressed.the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock), although the failures were identical.the current mileage was 85,000 and failure mileage was 75,000.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet suburban 1500.while driving 15 mph or less, the abs pulsates.the contact must pump the brakes in order to stop the vehicle.there is a recall for the 2000 suburbans (nhtsa campaign id number 05v379000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock)) for the same symptoms; however, the dealer stated that there are no recalls for the 1999 models.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure occurs each time the vehicle is driven.the failure mileage was 125,000 and current mileage was 130,000.

When slow stopping 5-10 mph speed, the abs engages requiring pressing brake pedal harder.

Started getting intermittent brake failure at slow speeds. Abs appears to activate greatly increasing stopping distance. Problem hasn't been resolved.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet suburban k1500.while driving at any speed, the contact noticed that the anti lock brakes were inoperable and the contact was unable to stop the vehicle. The failure was similar to nhtsa campaign id number: 05v379000 ( service brakes, hydraulic:antilock).the vehicle was taken to the dealerwhere they replaced the front lock wheel speed sensor; however, the contact continued to experience the same failure. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance due to the year of the vehicle. The current mileage was approximately 190,000. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Brake line running from front of vehicle to rear on driver side completely rusted through. Fuel line fittings are just as bad. Fittings on rear a/c went up over three years ago, haven't had ac.

My 1999 chevrolet suburban abs engage at any speed while driving on dry pavement.this is especially problematic at 5-10mph causing near misses with homes and businesses..recall found on the internet regarding the abs and wheel speed sensors although my particular vin was not included.many similar complaints with non-covered vin noted.contacted my dealership but they were unable to look back more than 10 years.contacted gm customer service who state nhb has not issued a recall and the problem is likely due to my vehicles age and mileage.they suggest i repair my vehicle and save the receipts just in case the nhb issues a recall in the future.onset of problem at 40,000 miles.much worse more recently.currently 60,000 miles on vehicle.

On 9/15/10, i was advised of a possible recall for a front wheel speed sensor on my 1999 chevy suburban. I researched the recall and located them at nhtsa #05v379000 and nhtsa action # pe05020. It seems that my brake pulsates when fully depressed. After contacting chevrolet corporation and numerous dealers, i was advised that even though i have the same problem as described in the recall, i was advised that my vehicle through the vin # was not included in the recall and that the repair can be made at my expense at any chevy dealer.

Chevrolet suburban k1500- brake lines are failing.

My 1999 chevy suburban k1500 exhibits the exact same characteristics as nhtsa campaign id number :05v379000 .it has 175k miles, i live in michigan, and the abs has been kicking in at low speeds in dry conditions for about 15k miles.website http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/1999/gmc/suburban and http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/1999/chevrolet/suburban+1500 are loaded with the same complaints - 1999 models with abs engaging at low speeds.this is an obvious safety issue.

The anti-lock braking system is kicking in when i try to stopthe vehicle in stop and go traffic or just regular braking. I looked online to see if there was a recall for the car to have it fix and there was. But my vin did not fall within the manufacture recall list even though i am experiencing symptoms 100% exactly as what is describe in the recall description.

1999 chevrolet suburbantotal brake failure due to corroded brake line rupture.send to dealer 10-19-2010 for repairs.

1999 suburban lt low speed brake failure!. Abs kicks in at 1-10 mph, groaning sound accompanies pedal vibration and no stopping power. Started at about 100k. Pads replaced brakes inspectedcontinues tohappen brakes pull, wear too quickly, vibrate at times. Poor braking system for such a large heavy weighing truck. This model suburban has many documented complaints of the same nature and should be recalled and repaired by gm.

Brake failure due to main brake line from front to rear was rusted through.the entire length of brake line was rusted.

Was preparing 1999 chevrolet suburban k1500 for trip.drove approximately 5 miles before the brake pedal felt spongy, then went to the floor.drove home slowly.when parked, the brake warning light came on.looked under car and found brake fluid leaking from rear driver side metal brake line.fluid in brake reservoir front compartment almost empty.appears metal brake line cracked and leaked near manifold above axle.the brake warning light never came on until stopped.i could only tell there was a problem by brake feel and then pedal moving to floor.i have not corrected the problem yet but will most likely replace all metal brake lines.i have never had this happen on any vehicle i have driven.could have been catastrophic if vehicle had been on the highway and needed to stop suddenly.could have been stranded on family vacation.found information online regarding nhtsa action # ea11001.my suburban has this exact problem.

1. Driving down a mountain road. 2. Brake failure. Barely any brakes. Smoke was coming from my front left wheelwell. 3. No action taken yet to repair. Need to replace corroded brake lines with stainless steel.

Abs activating when brakes applied on dry pavement at very low speed (almost stop) problem still exists.

Gm had a recall (05v379000) that did not include the year of my suburban (1999) nor my state (colorado).....yet, my problem is exactly the same problem that forced this recall.i think they should include colorado and 1999 suburban's - i find this to be highly unfair.today the abs acted up and caused my pregnant wife to nearly hit the car in front of her.

-the contact stated that while driving the 1999 chevrolet suburban at approximately 5-10 mph the abs engaged and vehicle wont stop immediately. The contact stated this generally happened when he was preparing to stop. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic ,who agreed that the abs engaged when it should not have been. Brake failure at low speed due to antilock.

Abs system kicks in at low speed or when ready to stop causinglonger distance to stop the truck and making it dangerous to drive. It seems thee is a recall on the 2000 suburban for the same problem, but not on the 1999.

Our 1999 chevy surburban's abs system started acting up, causing the vehicle to continue moving when the brakes were applied.our local mechanic informed us that this should be covered under a safety recall.nhtsa campaign # 05v379000.when we contacted our local dealer we were informed our vin number was not included in the recall.clearly, we are experiencing the problems described in your safety recall (nhtsa action # pe05020).i do not know why our vin # is not included and therein is my complaint.the problem started in the spring of 2006 but has continued to get worse.

Model 1999 chevrolet suburban 1500lt bought new in 2000. When attempting to brake at low speeds (< 10 mph) the abs system kicks in, the brakes pulsate heavily, but the vehicle keeps rolling for a few feet, depending on the moving speed at the time the brakes are applied. This has recently led to an accident whereby the vehicle slid into my garage door, luckily causing minimal damage to both car and garage door. The current mileage on the vehicle is 39,900 miles. I have found a recall, but this recall only applies to the 2000 model year suburban., whereas the symptoms are exactly the same in my vehicle.

Abs doesn't work properly to stop the truck at low speeds (1-10 mph), almost causing accidents or in one instance sliding down a steep drive into a parking area full of cars and people.this happens on every occasion at slow speed heavy braking.there should be a recall fix on all, not just the selected few.

Abs low speed failurereference:gm recall no. 05068nhtsa campaign id number : 05v379000.

The abs on our 99 chevrolet suburban began kicking in everytime we hit the brakes. We took it in the be diagnosed and was told that there is a recall, campaign number 05v379000, on this issue that covered over a million vehicles including other 99 chevrolet suburbans but that our particular vin number was not included in the recall. We were told that the sensors had rusted and were not recieveing the amps they needed to work properly. The repairs were cleaning the mounting surface, greasing, and replacing the sensors. This diagnosis and the repairs needed were the exact same problem as all the recalled vehicles. We believe our vehicle should be included in this recall. At this point we have not yet had the problem fixed.

05v379000 in regards to this recall i have a 1999 suburban that suffers the same issue and called gm and they say it does not fit parametershowever it does suffer from low speed abs activation.

Dt*: the contact stated when pressure was applied to the brake pedal at 5 mph, the abs brake system engaged which caused an increase in braking distance. The service dealer and manufacturer were contacted. The contact removed the fuse to the to the abs brake system.updated 09/11/06.

The contact owns a 1999 chevrolet suburban k1500.the contact stated that the rear brake lines were corroded, causing him to lose fluid to the rear brakes.after inspection, he also noticed that the front brake lines were wearing prematurely.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure.the contact diagnosed the vehicle and performed the repairs.the current and the failure mileages were 121,000.updated 12/29/11 the consumer stated he experienced low speed anti-lock brake failure as described in the recall. Updated 02/29/12

The variable effort steering on my 1999 chevrolet suburban c1500 is failing to attenuate during almost all turns from tangent.i get almost full power assist at road speeds from 45 to 70 mph; this can be quite unnerving even at slight steering wheel inputs.usually there is a "break point" at which the attenuation is normal up to that point, but beyond the break point, the wheel becomes quite "light".when this occurs, the steering input torque at the wheel is decidedly "too much" and more steering than necessary enuses.on dry pavement, i have actually heard the rear tires sliding during interstate interchange driving.on wet pavement, even with new tires and proper inflation, this is getting quite scary.

While driving at 55 mph on dry concrete limited access highway oninterstate i-820 southbound, approaching i-30 westbound at interstate interchange, slowed to 50 mph as turningto right at approximately 30-45 degrees of steering wheel input were applied to start right sweeping turn from tangent direction. ) as desired steering angle was reached, steering angle was unintentionally increased by the power steering system.vehicle turn rate to the right exceeded the necessary amount and vehicle initiated a turn-in oversteer. Steering angle was reduced, but when re-initiated, the turn-in oversteer recurred.this situation continued to plague this vehicle, today. No repairs have been attempted, since the dealership won't agree that anything is wrong.

The passenger side rear door lock failed in the locked position. The auto locks do not affect it nor can the lock be manually unlocked from the inside. The door cannot be opened at all from inside or out. No indication of breakage occurred, it just froze up one day with normal use.

Vehicle has just over 200,000 miles. At about 150,000 miles had drivers side door unable to open from inside, had to roll down window to open from ext'r handle. At same time back passenger door and window would not open. Spent way too much $ with chev dealer to fix, this is a safety issue. Now at 200k miles same thing again with driver side door, won't open from inside, and driver side window will not go down (failed at same time). Am writing this on behalf of my 89 y/o mother and 93 y/o father who own the vehicle in aurora, mo. Mom got trapped in the car and had to have help getting out through passenger side - when you are 89 years old it is difficult to crawl over a console. Will be contacting gm to see if they will offer to help or blow us off. If latter can guarantee i will never buy another gm product; had similar issues with 1995 gmc 4wd pickup i had owned, driver side door handle failed, inside and out, and cost several hundred dollars to repair. No relief from gm either.

1999 chevy suburban: passenger side back door, difficulty in opening door from the inside, have to roll window down and open from outside, seems to jam/get stuck and won't open!!!this happens quit frequently...

Turning out of my office parking lot i heard a "pop" - - - as i proceeded down the road i noticed a "funny wiggle" when i changed lanes or turned - - - i pulled off the road into a large parking lot and began inspecting the front suspension - - - then i noticed that the front stabilizer bar was broken completely in two where it meets the frame on the passenger side - - - glad i was not going 70mph on the interstate.

This is a design and a manufacturing defect. It's a manufacturing defect because the doors are failing in large numbers and it's a design defect because the doors can't be unlocked manually when the power locks fail. The dealer said the door actuators and latch assemblies must be replaced.what happens is rivets on the lock assembly are coming loose and when the window is half way down it hits the rivets causing the lock to jam and the door can not be opened.in a panic situation, collision or car fire the passengers not knowing why they can not open the door would have to climb over the seats to get out which may not be possible if there is a front end collision or fire.
