My new ss was modified with hand controls. I was goinginto a turn at 50mph and my knee got caught behind the hand controls not allowing me to push my brakes in going around a turn. I hit the curb taking out two trees then hitting a third tree to bring the vehicle to a stop. The front end of my car is now gone with the radiator pushed into the engine. The vehicle is totaled and no air bags deployed at all. Not exactly sure when the engine cut off but when i came to a stop it was no longer running and onstar automatically came on asking if everyone was ok since the vehicle had been in a crash. Luckily me and my friend riding along were not injured.

It started a month ago on my way to an interview i was on the i 35 here in dallas and the i was driving normally going mph 60 and i get a message in the dic to service the power steering and i lost complete control of the power steering.after doing some research online there seems to be a recall with numerous ss owners that have the issues. The thread can be found here http://www.ssforums.com/forum/warranty-service-issues/25833-power-steering-failure.html . There is a recall to just degrease the connectors but that doesn't seem to work and people are replacing the steering gears which have a recall on another vehicle which is the caprice ppv.

The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet ss. The contact stated that the power steering failed. Healey chevrolet buick (5216 ny-17m, new hampton, ny 10958, (845) 360-9821) stated that the failure codes matched the unknown recall repairs that were completed by the previous owner a year ago. The warranty period for the recall repair expired; therefore, the contact would have to pay for the repairs. The manufacturer stated that the failure codes did not match up with the previous recall repair and the contact would have to pay. The manufacturer and the dealer contradicted each other. The manufacturer offer to pay for 40% of the repair costs, which was estimated at $1,800. In addition, the contact believed freon was leaking from the air conditioner. The dealer and manufacturer refused to inspect the vehicle. The manufacturer provided a case number and stated that a case manager would call back. The failure mileage was 48,000.

My seatbelt cable broke on 8/9/2021. I put the belt on and as i was adjusting the belts, the belt/cable that is attached to the floor by driver side door broke. I took it to the chevrolet dealership to get it fixed andi did see that there was a recall on my model, butmy vin wasnā€™t listed so the dealership was gonna charge me for the repair. My car has the same issue with the recall but they wanted to charge me to get it fixed even though it was a safety issue!itā€™s not my fault that the cable broke! itā€™s chevroletsā€™!(nhtsa recall 16v518) so iā€™vebeen driving without a seatbelt now for 8 days.the dealership didnā€™t even sound concerned that i could have gone thru my windshield if i were in a wreck! yes, they actually let me leave the dealership without a seatbelt! no more chevrolets for me!

I was in the driver seat. I put my seatbelt on and adjusted the belts and pulled the whole seatbelt out!.i had to drive home without a seatbelt.pretty scary.

I was absolutely horrified today when i got into my 2014 chevrolet ss and the seatbelt detached from its anchor point in my hand without any warning. From the attached pictures, you can clearly see how fortunate i am to be alive. This has been my family car for the past five years, and just the mere thought that i have been putting my family's life at risk in this car is very upsetting. I am diligent with all maintenance and safety recalls. From the attached service invoice you can see that i brought my car to muzi chevrolet in needham, ma on 12/27/2016 to have service campaign 15822 performed to replace potentially faulty seatbelt anchor cables. Because safety should always be paramount, i acted on this very serious recall immediately, but i am now left wondering whether the seat belt was replaced with an updated faulty part, or if the recall was ever performed at all. I am the first owner of this 2014 ss, and was the first owner of a pontiac g8 gt for 5 years before that. I have always loved these performance cars, but my faith in gm products has been shattered. I now find myself without a car but i have every confidence that you will do the right thing.

2014 chevrolet ss.consumer writes in regards to seat belt replacement part to repair vehicle damaged old model seat belt not available.recall 16v-518 new seat belt replacement part not yet available.the consumer stated the seat belt was clearly and obviously showing dangerous wear.the dealer informed the consumer, they would replace the seat belt with the same type of seat belt, because the safe replacement was not available.when the consumer arrived at the dealer for her schedule appointment, she was informed the part was not available and the service advisor was trying to discourage her from getting the temporary seat belt replacement.the consumer informed the consumer, the mechanic looked at the seat belt and stated it was fine.the service advisor finally agreed there was wear on the set belt, but the part would have to be ordered.

Power steering failure while driving and making a turn.

Electric power steering went out and steering wheel got really stiff. Message "service power steering. Drive with care" appeared on the car's instrument panel. Vehicle was coasting to a traffic light at about 20~25 mph. Stopped at the traffic light, turned the car off and on again and power steering was working again.

Loss of power steering while driving in city streets

My cars power steering has failed. The dealership is putting in a new steering gear. My car had a recall done on it on 2/15. It was to lube a connector. Now it has failed again. My car has the same steering gear as a chevrolet caprice ppv recall #22010. Those are being replaced under the recall free of charge and i have to pay for mine being fixed for the same exact part.

The electric power steering failed whilst driving at 35mph on a straight road. The steering went heavy and simultaneously a message came up in the drivers information screen stating "service power steering, drive with care". After pulling off the road and turning off/restarting the vehicle, the steering assistance had returned and the message had gone. Three hours later, as i had just parked the car and was about to turn off the ignition, the same happened again. When i returned to the car a hour later, the fault had gone. Fortunately, in both situations i was not in any danger but i could imagine this being a serious risk if i had been traveling on the highway or driving on a curved road as the steering became extremely difficult to turn.

On april15, 2015 i took my 2014 chevrolet ss, mileage 6316, to the dealer in response to factory recall 14804. At that time they applied a dielectetic lube to the steering rack connector as per the recall instructions. This was to prevent a sudden loss of power steering while operating the vehicle. This condidtion had not ever occured at that time. One year later in april 2016 the car started experiencing sudden loss of power steering at random times. The vehicle drivers information center stated "service power steering, drive with care". All power steering assist was gone and stopping and restarting the motor was the only way to restore it, maybe for a few minutes, maybe for the rest of the day. The car was then parked in our garage until mid august 2016. The car continued the sudden loss of power steering and i took the car to the dealer on 9-1-2016. Mileage 16031. Took a picture of the d.i.c.screen as evidence of the steering loss. Dealer stated no codes were set and performed the lube procedure under recall 14804 again. I was told to bring car back with power steering malfunctioning. My concern is the loss of power steering dramatically increases the effort needed to steer the further the wheel is turned. If it were to fail on a cloverleaf interstate onramp the effort to steer would be very high, coupled with the higher speeds, a recipe for disaster. I would like to have the steering rack replaced. First recall repair procedure didn't fix the vehicle, second identical repair procedure surely will not. Concerns about this condition exist in nhtsa document id# 10057679.

I was driving to work when all of a sudden the power steering failed completely i could barely effect the car's direction at all. Barely missed another car with a lady and two kids. I was able to creep into a service center where they inspected the car. When they restarted the car the steering worked fine. They said definitely a controller or electronic part. I am afraid to drive the car for fear of causing an accident. I contacted the dealer but he didn't seem that concerned. I will contact again. I have read about this on the internet this am but it doesn't seem like the gov't. To concerned i guess were are going to have to kill someone first.

The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet ss. The contact stated that the power steering failed and caused a crash. The contact's vehicle struck the bumper of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The dealer diagnosed that the steering wheel assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,000.

The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet ss. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 17v382000 (steering); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted (thomas chevrolet in media, pa) and confirmed that the parts were not available for the recall remedy. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts were to become available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

This car has an intermittent, albeit dangerous issue. The power steering loses assist, warning message displays on the dashboard and the car is extremely difficult to control, if it happened during for example a highway offramp, i would have crashed. This occurs intermittently, without any precipitating factors, and at random intervals. If possible and stop, and turn the car off, the steering assist will work again and message will disappear. I have photographed the the actual message while driving, at my own great risk, at highway speeds, and it was impossible to pull over and control the car. The dealer is not helpful in this regard, they will either disregard it entirely stating 'they all do that' (!!!) or 'we can't duplicate it, so we cant fix it." quite frankly the dealer response seems extremely blaise about this, as if it was some kind of minor issue. I believe that there was a recall for this very complaint, and i had it performed, and the issue is still present. I am beginning to be afraid to drive this car, in case it happens again, and i can't bring the car to a stop and/or swerve. This is just as bad as if an accelerator was stuck! please help, gm does not care at all, lives may be lost before they will do something about it, or the car is outside of warranty!

While driving the vehicle, pulling out of a parking stall, we received a "service power steering, drive with care" error and all power steering was lost. Extreme amounts of force were needed to manually turn the steering wheel for a basic right turn.

Started the car up and got a warning to: service power steering. Drive with caution. Turned car off and on three tines before the message went away and steering was back to normal. This is the second time my power steering has failed. First failure was 09/04/16 where steering gear was replaced. It is now doing the same thing it did when it first happened in 2016.steering is very difficult without the power assist.

Electronic control of the power steering intermittently malfunctions causing loss of control of the vehicle. It has occurred while driving and while parked.

In the middle of driving, in motion can be going straight or turning, and my power steering cuts out, has happened 3 times.i turn car off and back on and it's ok until next time it cuts out. Have service appt on 4/6/17 but have read this has happened to others.

Eps failure while driving.it was very hard to steer the car.it would "reset" after turning off the car and restarting.my particular ss was the first one to experience the eps failure.i would not feel safe having my spouse driving this vehicle and having the eps randomly fail.

The power steering failed as i was slowing down to turn into a parking lot. Speed was about 10 mph. It became extremely difficult to turn the wheel. The dic displayed a message saying "service power steering, drive with care". After restarting the car, the power steering had returned. I am having it towed to the dealership to avoid having it go out again while driving. The car has 22,000 miles on it.

Vehicle has lose of power steering during normal driving conditions. The vehicles steering becomes extremely difficult and dangerous to drive. The vehicle was taken to the chevrolet dealership and inspected. The steering gear assembly requires replacement per chevrolet dealership. The vehicle steering gear assembly was inspected before and was not replaced on previous power steering recall. The vehicle is not labeled as part of the current 2019 and 2020 chevrolet ss recalls, although the vehicle is having the exact identical power steering problems. Dealership has stated that the repair will be $2800.00. Vehicle has not been repaired. This chevrolet ss and should be added to recall notice the prior recalls did not repair or fix the problem with the electric steering assembly. I have driven this vehicle during highway driving and the power steering has turned off and almost crashed the vehicle since this steering problem began. Vehicle is a 60k miles issues began at 40/50 and now 60 k miles. Steering system requires a major overhaul for vehicle safety. This is a dangerous vehicle to drive and can not be driven farther than maybe 10 miles.

Electric power steering assist quits. Driving 35 mph on a straight section of road on a city street all of a sudden it got extremely hard to steer the car. This car is the same platform as the chevrolet ppv which has a steering recall but there is no recall for the ss sedan. Gm's number for this recall is 22010.http://www.autonews.com/article/20160329/oem11/160329842/gm-to-recall-6300-police-cars-for-steering-defect.

Random failure of power steering system.while driving, the car will chime and the message "service power steering, drive with care" is displayed.at this point the car loses all power steering function and is extremely difficult to steer.this has happened on both city streets and major highways.this is an extremely dangerous system failure.

While driving away from my home last night, the power steering failed.the message "service power steering" was displayed on the dic screen.i was still on my street and only driving 20 mph.i pulled over and restarted the vehicle and the power steering came back on and the service message on the dic cleared.i am fortunate i wasn't in a curve or in the middle of a lane change in the interstate.

Power steering failure

Power steering failed again. Happened originally at 15,000 miles and then repaired, it was then repaired again under the recall and now it has failed again at 28,137 miles. Fortunately i was at a standstill when the warning came on. This is a serious issue that needs to be rectified with more than "silicon grease" which i was told was used on the electrical connection.

The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet ss. While driving approximately 50 mph, the steering lost power and the power steering indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to britain chevrolet cadillac (903-274-4401, located at 4495 interstate hwy 30, greenville, tx 75402), but the technician was unable to inspect the vehicle right away. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the steering needed to be repaired. The contact called the manufacturer, but no one answered the phone. The failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

While driving the car around a cloverleaf on-ramp for a highway at 40 mph the electronic power steering failed. I feel very lucky that i managed to maintain control of the car in the instant the power steering failed as this could have resulted in the car crashing.

Power steering failure while driving on interstate in straight line with message "service power steering, drive carefully". After car was stopped and parked for 8 hours, upon starting again, message and problem had disappeared. Dealer service unable to find problem. Indicated no gm bulletins.

Stopped at a traffic light to make left turn.once green, went to turn and power steering had failed.pulled into parking lot, shut off car, restarted and power steering was restored.headed for my home, 6-7 miles, power steering failed again while moving at low (30 mph) speed.got home, shut off, restarted, power steering restored.this lasted a couple days before power steering would not restore.took vehicle to local chevy dealer which had serviced the vehicle in early 2015 for the power steering service bulletin. Chevy replaced the power steering rack.

I took my 2014 chevrolet ss sedan to chevrolet service for customer satisfaction program a140804 "electronic power steering loss of power assist" zfat----field action recall9101225 - n140804 - inspect and lubricate steering gear control module connectoron 05/07/2015. The issue hadn't made itself known at this point. The resolution was the dealer was to apply dielectric grease to the steering rack connector to prevent corrosion, leading to a sudden loss of power steering. This issue hadn't occurred until 2017. But i have had two recent instances where the vehicle randomly looses all power steering and the driver info center message says "service power steering, drive with care". All power steering is out, you have to muscle the vehicle to the shoulder, turn the vehicle off until the "retained accessory power" goes out. Restarting then "fixes" the issue. I took the car to service on 05/18/2017 and was advised that there was no trace of dielectric grease on my electric power steering connector. The grease was applied during this visit and i was given my vehicle back on 5/19/2017, only to have the issue recur this morning, 06/03/2017. This vehicle is unsafe to drive and this remedy obviously does not work.

On the morning of april 18, 2016, i was drive down my street on the way to work.suddenly the power steering stopped working and the following message displayed next to the speedometer, "service power steering drive with care".i pulled the car over to the side of the street and turned the car off and then on again.when the car restarted the power steering started working again.i called the dealership on the way and they advised me to bring my car in for service.this must be a widespread issue because the dealership is telling me the replacement parts are 3-4 weeks out and are on national back order.

Electric power steering failed while driving on the highway, warning display appeared in dash at time power steering went out: service power steering, drive with care".car was very difficult to maneuver especially at off ramp and street roads. Gm will not cover this issue if outside 36k miles.numerous other drivers of this model appear to be having failures while driving: http://www.ssforums.com/forum/warranty-service-issues/25833-power-steering-failure-70.html".other gm models using the same steering rack are currently under recall, not chevy ss.

Power steering failed while making a right hand turn.vehicle became very difficult to steer and would have caused an accident had there been oncoming traffic.vehicle had 25,821 miles at the time of the incident.

The contact owns a 2014 chevrolet ss. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the steering wheel seized as the power steering warning light illuminated. The contact was able to drive the vehicle with difficulties to his residence. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was recently taken to cronic chevrolet gmc dealer (2676 n expy, griffin, ga 30223, (888) 809-5032) where it was inspected of the steering gear assembly nhtsa campaign number: 17v382000 (steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

Steering goes out. Upon restart traveled over 500 miles until service. Once service was done at chevrolet, weeks later same problem upon restart drove for less than 5 miles and same issue. Now rack and pinion has been replaced.first time on starting saw notice in screen. 2nd and 3rd happened while car was driving.

The trim in the chevrolet ss 2014 is highly reflective and during periods of high sun the driver is simply blinded by the trim around gps unit, around shifter, and even the little circle around the start button is enough to blind a driver.this happened on multiple occasions and was strong enough for me to try and cover it or block it while driving or by putting a hand in front of my face.wearing sun glasses does not help unless they cover the full 180 degrees as the reflection hits from the side.this is a common issue and there are many complaints about it on ssforums.com with people painting the trim and customizing it into any color other then the current, on brand new cars!gm already has the same trim in black in australia on the sv6 sedan and can remedy this issue.i have already spoken with chevy support who frequent ssoforums.com and they contacted lori (service manager) at 86th st chevrolet in brooklyn, ny and i was told that there is nothing they can do for me.for this reason, i am raising my concern here as this is a serious safety issue that already has a fix in place but nobody is willing to do anything about it.
