The shifting gear gets stuck, and it cannot be moved from park to drive. To move the gear from park to drive and have to use a lot of strength to make the gear change. But sometimes it gets so stuck i have to wait to make the change. When the car is turn off i have to wait 2-3 minutes to remove the key. This happens on and off for no reason. This happens when the car is parked, it does not matter where.

A few buttons on the steering will are not as well working for some reason. My fuel gage for miles changes and not set up correctly with pump. It will show 280 when full the. Move up maybe 15 minutes later then back down. Not like it was when i first purchase my vehicle.
Yesterday 9-9-2018, i started car, drove it one block and airbag light came on.car has 30k miles, never been in an accident, and never had any safety problem.dealer says it went out of warranty 5-26-2018........

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (chevrolet -5925 us 90/ milton, fl 32583) where it was diagnosed that the failure codes (dtc c0186, c0196, c0287) appeared. We was informed that isn't a recall for this problem on this models.( air bags and seat belts are a safety device, this fault should be a recall issue). We fount a service bulletin : sb-10059177-1527 from gm for the failure.

If the car is then put into drive, the airbag system still remains off. This seems to be an obvious issue as the airbag may not activate in an accident when there is indeed someone in the passenger seat.
My wife was driving on a straight road with cruise control set at 60 mph when she saw a deer in the road - she swerved and braked hitting the deer in the driversheadlight area above drivers front tire and both driver side doors.the air bag did not deploy and the seat belt did not lock in place and hold her in place.

My husband and i were traveling straight in a 2015 chevrolet sonic lt at approximately 35-40 mph when the driver of a 2002 toyota corolla made a left hand turn causing a collision. Simply put we t boned the other vehicle. 2015 chevy sonics are equipped with weight sensing restraint systems. I was the passenger and weigh approximately 142 lbs. Both driver front air bags deployed, knee and steering wheel. The passenger front air bags did not deployed. Almost all of the damage was to the front end passenger side. Total mileage at time of collision was 3,191. So far insurance has estimated repair costs to be $8,863.10, note this is before tare down. Final cost will rise considering they failed to include front bumper and radiator. I have been advised that we are looking at a possible total loss. I have contacted gm concerning the air bag failure, and the report has been passed along to now the third person. The report was "escalated to central claims" on 4/2/2015, i was told then that i would receive a call within 24-48 hours, it is now 4/7/215. I did not receive a call, called gm yesterday and was given contact information of the 3rd assigned person, sent an email asking for a return call, no response received. It has now been 24 hours since email. Please be careful when allowing adolescents/children to ride in front passenger seat.
My wife and daughter hit a deer going about 60 mph. The deer hit the front drivers side from the grill to the corner. After the impact the airbags did not deploy. The damage could be a totalloss just waiting on the insurance adjuster.

1st at 20k miles (2019) my car wouldn't start, stuck late night. Called aaa, battery had dead cell so i purchased one for $200. Months later found out it was covered under the warranty. I started smelling coolant (2019). Dealer said it was the water pump. It was covered under warranty. Started smelling coolant again (2019), it was a valve, wasn't covered. The car wouldn't start, dead cell in the battery again (2020) started smelling coolant (2020), needed a new radiator, wasn't covered under warranty. Started smelling fumes & had a leak. It was the purge solenoid needed replacing, another $500. Two months ago (nov 2020) the ambient sensor went out $450. Now today (jan 5, 2021) the airbag light is on and i'm told it's the internal sdm fault and will be close to a $900 repair.

Hazzard lights button would not deactivate. Had just replaced all front headlights and 3 weeks later they both went out. Side mirrors switch is not working.
While driving my car "gliches"the lights go on and off, the power steering stops the locks go up and down and all electronics in the dashboard go on and off.last week, it shut down in the middle of the road and i could not start it for about 5 minutes or so.got it home and it did it again the next day while it was parked.this started years ago.brought it to dealer they said "well it's not doing it now".i was not educated at the time to push for anything to be done.the stopping completely while driving that happened last week.
If you are driving in the rain and you have your high beams on the doors will unlock. The wipers will turn off, the rpm's race high accelerating the car into almost a spin if you do not counter correct the steering. The engine and radio shuts off at random times as well. Had a diagnostic check done, nothing wrong with the engine, electrical systems, battery or alternator. Was told it is a manufacturer is with the computer system, but nhtsa will not address the issue until someone get's killed, so general motors will not fix it, until they are in probate court. As a leo this is unacceptable behavior, especially after our government just bailed them out again with our tax money.

Hello,the chevy sonic dash an information center is not working properly,there is no radio , no turn signal indicators , no seat belt indicator an dash gets really dim at times , all of these issues happened all at once . I tried calling my local chevrolet dealer but they keep saying my vin is not effected.but all the other makes of this model of that year is having the same recall issues . Please help !!!. I have small children an ever car ride is unpleasant an we dont feel safe .

Key gets warm on short drive and hot on drives over 90 minutes combined city and highway. When i stop the car and take the key out, the metal shaft that goes into the ignition is hot
While driving down a city street my doors unlocked, all of them. While still driving i pushed the button on the driver door to lock the doors and they all locked. Shut my car off at my destination, got back into car and started it, began driving and again it happened, i re locked all the doors again. Next day, started car, put into reverse and a warning flashed across my information screen about my back up camera not functioning correctly (this was not an option on my car when i bought it, there is no back up camera) since then i don't have the outdoor temp showing anymore and the radio volume, phone buttons on steering wheel do not work, just the ones on the right ride of steering wheel. This has happened just since my warranty on these items has expired. Was this done on purpose by the dealership, using software installed while getting my complementary oil change (that has now also expired)? i have not had my car in for a recall within the last year. If i remember it has only been in for one recall right after i first bought it (around january 2016) so i know it's not that. I have searched the world wide web to learn that many other people are having the same issues with no resolve and there are no recalls. I feel my doors unlocking while driving down the road is a safety issue.

Car was running while listening to radio. Once it was cut off, i could not lock the car or cut it on again.it completely died.

But today it stalled sitting in mcdonalds parking lot and not only didn't start again, but had to be jumped.i can only imagine what would have happened if my granddaughter and i had her in heavy traffic when that happened!every other time it's been going down the road. One time i was in traffic and it almost caused an accident.it happens almost every day. Especially if i'm running the air conditioner.it happens at all speeds. I have taken it to 3 mechanics and it doesn't 'throw any codes'. It did show a little issue with the alternator so we replaced it but it didn't charge anything.i've done some research and this is a common issue with several years of chevy sonic cars. Unfortunately our outcry is going nowhere.gm seems determined to ignore us until someone dies and they get sued. Can you please get them to recall the engine or whatever it is that's causing this issue?please?!!!thank you!

2015 hatchback 'my link'/infotainment system just 'froze'/pushing on screen to activate usual functions became unresponsive. The vehicle was stationary.
Vehicle alarm sounding. With all doors shut properly. I push the lock door control on the key 2x to enable the horn to sound indicating the vehicle is locked and secured with alarm as it should. As of 28 oct 2015 i do the same and now alarm is going off as if a door is open or someone is breaking in. All fuses have been checked and are good. Vehicle is parked in garage on level surface. Checked with both car keys to make sure it wasn't a key electrical issue. The red signal light in the car indicating alarm is on flashes more brightly than usual. I would like to be able to secure my vehicle. Thank you for you time.

Vehicle felt like it was vibrating while in idle and when pressing down on the brakes. There was very low acceleration and it felt like my car was in neutral. Antifreeze overflow has a leak and is bubbling over the engine light on even after taking it to chevy dealer.car stuttered and had bad smell air does not get cool we had to pull over and the second time this happened the car would not start

Car is less than 3 years old and the radiator is rusted/corroded. This kind of corrosion should not happen on a car less than 3 years old.i kept smelling something burning when driving on the highway, so i started monitoring the coolant levels. I was adding more than a gallon of coolant each month.

I have had my vehicle in the shop multiple times since i had it. First there was a smell of coolant in the cabin. Although misdiagnosed initially, the meachanic later found that there was truly an issue with the car. But in the last year i have had to have the thermostat replaced, the housing of something was replaced a month later (i do not remember the name of the part). And a third repair was also done. All for thecoolant that continues to find a way toleak out. Now i am being told again, by the dealer, that the coolant is leaking again, this time from the water pump. I have paid a nice chunk of change to and being told i need to spend yet another $400+. I have owned many cars and never had this issue. I was also told by the dealer that many people with sonics are having the issues with the cooling system. I asked about a recall and he told me to make a complaint.whenever the issue arises again there is always a strong smell of coolant in the cabin of the car. Then the car stops blowing heat and air, or blows it intermittently.
I purchased my car about a year a half ago and it has been giving me non stop engine and leak issues. I have a 2015 chevy sonic turbo and so far i have taken it to the mechanic 8 times to fix coolant leaks, fix my fuel thermostat as well as replace a head gasket after having it blow.
Vehicle doesn't always have to be in motion however motion is triggering the engine to stay on or at times disappear for a short period of time. Constant diagnostic testing code is p0011. I have been to general motors dealerships as they refuse me to go outside their dealers for repairs; results possibility of denying me coverage under my powertrain warranty. I have put in case after case with their complaints and only results into something i already do is 'simply' call dealership. I am driving a very unsafe unpredictable vehicle that is not being fixed. I have been to 3 of their dealerships total times of 8 times. Currently still till this day with same issue.

June 2015 the dealer switched cars when we refused the options at the closing of the deal to a base/standard car. A week or so after purchasing the car a tire popped as we drove down the street. It is very loud in the morning. A high pitched squeaking sound. Next we have been smelling gas,oil/fluid leaking from the car. The driveway is stained from it. The thermostat has been changed 3 times. It has been jerking,stalking, sputtering. The antifreeze reservoir has boiled over several times. It smells like something electrical is burning. The air conditioner doesn't cool well. The windshield wipers toreup in less than a year.thealership doesn't know why these things have happened they want to do maintenancing to see if that fixes it. Over $1000. We got this compact car to save and survive. This has been an expensive cheap car.

Hello,the chevy sonic dash an information center is not working properly,there is no radio , no turn signal indicators , no seat belt indicator an dash gets really dim at times , all of these issues happened all at once . I tried calling my local chevrolet dealer but they keep saying my vin is not effected.but all the other makes of this model of that year is having the same recall issues . Please help !!!. My wife was driving on a straight road with cruise control set at 60 mph when she saw a deer in the road - she swerved and braked hitting the deer in the driversheadlight area above drivers front tire and both driver side doors.the air bag did not deploy and the seat belt did not lock in place and hold her in place.

The wipers will turn off, the rpm's race high accelerating the car into almost a spin if you do not counter correct the steering. The engine and radio shuts off at random times as well. Had a diagnostic check done, nothing wrong with the engine, electrical systems, battery or alternator. Was told it is a manufacturer is with the computer system, but nhtsa will not address the issue until someone get's killed, so general motors will not fix it, until they are in probate court. As a leo this is unacceptable behavior, especially after our government just bailed them out again with our tax money.

Some days it will be on and other times it will not. My screen glitches here and there and not working correctly even with touch. A few buttons on the steering will are not as well working for some reason. My fuel gage for miles changes and not set up correctly with pump. It will show 280 when full the. Move up maybe 15 minutes later then back down. Not like it was when i first purchase my vehicle.

The thermostat has been changed 3 times. It has been jerking,stalking, sputtering. The antifreeze reservoir has boiled over several times. It smells like something electrical is burning. The air conditioner doesn't cool well. The windshield wipers toreup in less than a year.thealership doesn't know why these things have happened they want to do maintenancing to see if that fixes it. Over $1000. We got this compact car to save and survive. This has been an expensive cheap car.

2015 chevrolet sonic hatchback ltz- fuel filler tube leaking at tank connection, causing gas to spill out on ground. Could be a potential a fire/explosion hazzard. Discovered when check engine light was activated. Ran an odbii code check indicating a p0442 error "emission system leak-small". Observed gas flowing to the ground as the car was being filled with gas. Had the car less than 1-week after purchasing "used" with 19k miles.
Transmission is surging in gear, in motion and stationary, at any speed. Sensation is strong enough to notice even at highway speeds. Feels like resistance building and then releasing rapidly. Seems to happen more in colder weather. Unsure if clutch is slipping/grabbing. Equate sensation to someone bumping the car from the rear or pressing on the gas pedal briefly with the brakes applied.
Vehicle doesn't always have to be in motion however motion is triggering the engine to stay on or at times disappear for a short period of time. Constant diagnostic testing code is p0011. I have been to general motors dealerships as they refuse me to go outside their dealers for repairs; results possibility of denying me coverage under my powertrain warranty. I have put in case after case with their complaints and only results into something i already do is 'simply' call dealership. I am driving a very unsafe unpredictable vehicle that is not being fixed. We own a chevy sonic at roung 28000 miles the button on the gear shift would get stuck and not pop out; one leaving the car in gear, two not allowing you to remove the key after you have "parked" and turn off the engine. Because the button does not pop out the car stays in gear and thus even after parking and turning the engine off the car can shift and roll out of gear. I have read numerous complaints about this problem on all year sonics.the button stuck, while we drove, and parked. We then had the park replaced.the second button snapped at the base two months later!!!!now afriad to use the car. I believe only replacing the entire gear shift will make this problem go away. The buttons just dont work.
When shifter from any gear into park the button on the shifter sticks in the depressed position making it easy to bump the shifter back into gear after parking the vehicle. After the shifter if put into the park position the vehicle will not release the key from the ignition until after the button slides slowly into the latched "not depressed"position. The issue occurs only when placing the vehicle park and does not affect any other shifter position.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (chevrolet -5925 us 90/ milton, fl 32583) where it was diagnosed that the failure codes (dtc c0186, c0196, c0287) appeared. We was informed that isn't a recall for this problem on this models.( air bags and seat belts are a safety device, this fault should be a recall issue). We fount a service bulletin : sb-10059177-1527 from gm for the failure.
The headrests are too tall and wide. They obstruct visibility when backing up and when changing lanes on the highway and city streets.
There is a problem with the passenger presence module according to our mechanic. When an adult is seated in the passenger seat with the car turned on and stationary, sometimes, the airbag system does not turn on as if it does not recognize a person there. If the car is then put into drive, the airbag system still remains off. Other times, the air bag system will turn on at the beginning of the drive and then turn off randomly during the drive while someone is still sitting in the passenger seat. This seems to be an obvious issue as the airbag may not activate in an accident when there is indeed someone in the passenger seat.

This sonic sun visors will not pull out to extend and also have no pull-out extensions.people driving north in the in the p.m.or south in thea.m. Have to drive with one hand only in order to block the sun with their left hand.there is probably a higher incident of accidents at these times of day involving sonics. Stationary. 2015 chevy sonic. The gear shift button/knob was sticking and finally broke. I've had to fiddle with it (for the last seven months or so) to get the car in and out of gear using a screwdriver. When the button was stuck in the in position, the gear shift did not lock in place and when in park i could not get the key out of the ignition. When the button was in the out position, it was difficult to push in at times. It finally broke. I've got the casing completely off and the broken button out. There's a plastic lever/spring/contraption that you can press down with a screwdriver to unlock and move the gear shifter. I took my car in for the recall for the manifold. Within 30 days, the check engine light was on. Took it in for service for that, all or the o2 sensors had gone bad, a crack in the housing at the thermostat and a few other things. Got it back and 100 miles later the check engine light comes on again. The catalytic converter is bad.

Car has rough idle and when parked running the car it stalls out. Also after putting gas in the gas tank the car will not turn over to start. The check engine light is on now too. The car wants to stall at intersections and in traffic.
The shifting gear gets stuck, and it cannot be moved from park to drive. To move the gear from park to drive and have to use a lot of strength to make the gear change. But sometimes it gets so stuck i have to wait to make the change. When the car is turn off i have to wait 2-3 minutes to remove the key. This happens on and off for no reason. This happens when the car is parked, it does not matter where.

My chevy sonic stalls while driving it.the engine shuts down, door locks cycle, lights go on and off, power steering and brakes go out, rpms drop, and until today, it turns back on, the rpms jump sky high, and the motor revs back to life and it goes fine again for awhile. But today it stalled sitting in mcdonalds parking lot and not only didn't start again, but had to be jumped.i can only imagine what would have happened if my granddaughter and i had her in heavy traffic when that happened!every other time it's been going down the road. One time i was in traffic and it almost caused an accident.it happens almost every day. Especially if i'm running the air conditioner.it happens at all speeds. I have taken it to 3 mechanics and it doesn't 'throw any codes'. It did show a little issue with the alternator so we replaced it but it didn't charge anything.i've done some research and this is a common issue with several years of chevy sonic cars. Unfortunately our outcry is going nowhere.gm seems determined to ignore us until someone dies and they get sued. Can you please get them to recall the engine or whatever it is that's causing this issue?please?!!!thank you!

Takata recall. I bought this car in may,not even a year old and this car has been in the shop because it keeps dying. It has left me stranded about 8 times now and had to get towed to the chevy garage.nothing has ever been pluged in to the car. It is brand new. I dont feel safe in it i dont trust it i cant rely on it. I am not happy and want this car bought back.
1st at 20k miles (2019) my car wouldn't start, stuck late night. Called aaa, battery had dead cell so i purchased one for $200. Months later found out it was covered under the warranty. I started smelling coolant (2019). Dealer said it was the water pump. It was covered under warranty. Started smelling coolant again (2019), it was a valve, wasn't covered. The car wouldn't start, dead cell in the battery again (2020) started smelling coolant (2020), needed a new radiator, wasn't covered under warranty. Started smelling fumes & had a leak. It was the purge solenoid needed replacing, another $500. Two months ago (nov 2020) the ambient sensor went out $450. Now today (jan 5, 2021) the airbag light is on and i'm told it's the internal sdm fault and will be close to a $900 repair.
I had just pulled into a parking spot at the grocery store, i pressed the button on the shift stick and attempted to put it into park, however the stick got stuck and would not allow me to shift up past the "r" or reverse position, i could not place the vehicle into park. I had to call someone to come help me get the car into the park position. This shift stick button was getting stuck several times before this but it has never gotten stuck like that. I have to contact the dealership but i doubt they will be of any help.

I have a 2015 chevrolet sonic. Every time i've been into the chevrolet service center to have the oil changed, the chevrolet service center underinflates my tires. The chevrolet manufacturer calls for 38 psi in all four tires. The chevrolet service center sets the psi in all four tires at 35 psi. Now, i'm questioning all oil and lube service centers. Are they also underinflating tires? this happened last about 7 months ago. I've used three different service centers since i"ve owned the car. Service centers in wichita, ks; oklahoma city, ok; gulfport, ms.
On the morning of april 07 2016 my son was driving my wife to work on highway when they heard a loud pop, made his way through traffic to side of road. And was told "you have no warranty coverage in our system", he tried to tell them, but was rudely told "well if your parents had purchased or has a tire warranty we could help you". Well that's a lie gm cover tires under their 3yr/30,000 mile warranty program i have submitted pictures of the tires, which i took earlier this morning when i got home. I want the tire replaced the dealer is not standing by their own warranty program and per my son was not to concerned when he told themthe issue nor offered professional service
