I purchased a new black 2013 chevrolet silverado crew cab in october 2012 from marine chevrolet in jacksonville, nc with a 3 yr/36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. On 16 may, 2015, i called marine chevrolet's service department about a 1 1/2"crack above the center of the passenger side airbag. My truck had 37,017 miles and was no longer covered under the original factory warranty. However, i wanted to know if this was a common issue with this model. The dealership schedule a service appointment for 8:30 am on 18 may, 2015. After conducting research over the weekend, i learned that other chevy and gmc owners of truck and suv models between 2007 and 2013 reported cracked dashes near the passenger airbags. On 18 may, i brought my truck to marine chevrolet's service department to examine the crack. The service representative initially told me that since the warranty had expired, chevrolet would not be responsible for the repairs. I explained that the crack happened less than three years after i purchased the truck and i was aware of the history of these dashboards. The service representative talked to his service manager and later told me that gm would pay the majority of the maintenance cost and that i would only be responsible for $100. Based on the number of online complaints i have seen in forums and online news articles, i feel gm may have installed defective dashboards in 2007 - 2013 truck and suv models and passed the cost of defective parts onto the customer. Additionally, if the passenger side airbag deploys with a crack dashboard surrounding it, there could an increased likelihood of dashboard shrapnel flying into a passenger's face. I think nhtsa should investigate the cracking dashboard issue in gm's suvs and pick-up trucks from 2007 - 2013 and influence gm to issue a recall or service bulletin to address this problem.

Cracked dash. My vehicle only has 30k miles and already has a crack

Dashboard is cracked in 2 places adjacent to the airbag cover.gm and the dealer are willing to replace it out of warranty but are requiring me to cover nearly half the replacement cost of $700.this should be a recall issue as an airbag deployment would create plastic projectiles in the cabin that could injure a passenger.i can provide a photo if requested.

Hit a deer at 47mph on left front of vehicle.air bag light came on with code b0052 deployment commanded.no air or pretensioner deployed. Contacted gm they sent an inspector out to retrieve crash data from recorder.they contacted me after they received the info from the inspector , and said i needed to take the vehicle to dealer to diagnose concern. There were no codes. They have not told me if there was a problem with the sdm that was replaced.

The contact owns a 2013 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph a drunk driver crashed into the contacts vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The passenger sustained a broken foot and was taken to the hospital. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

There is a crack in the dashboard on the left side of the passenger airbag.it runs from the corner of the airbag cover to the edge of the dashboard piece.the dashboard piece is elevated on the right side of the crack.there is also a second crack forming on the left side of the same dashboard piece near the driver instrument panel hood.

On tuesday march 18, 2014 i was driving a 2013 chevy silverado and rear ended a chevy tahao at approximately 20 mph without hitting my brakes. Conditions at the time were clear and dry although very windy. I was the only passenger in my truck. I was wearing my seatbelt. I hit the steering wheel with my chest. The onstar system called to say they could see i was in an accident and help was on the way. I exchanged info with the other driver and returned to my vehicle. The seatbelt was in the extended position and would not extend further or retract. On the display panel it had an 'airbag deployed' icon and message 'service airbag'. My insurance company gave me a auto repair shop to go to for an estimate, however, the shop told me they would not touch the vehicle until a gm representative investigated the system first as they felt the seatbelt should have prevented me from hitting the steering wheel. I called gm and spoke with walter in customer service. He arranged to have a 'third party' investigator come and do a interrogation of the system and arranged for a loaner vehicle. Raytheon representative 'jeff" called me sunday march 20 and stated he was to interrogate the system and would contact me from the airport when he got to town on wednesday march 23. On wednesday march 23 i called jeff to see if he was in town and he stated he was at the airport 'leaving' town, he had done his investigation and determined everything worked like it should. I asked him if i was supposed to hit the steering wheel and he stated he did not agree or disagree.

Air bags do not recognize someone is sitting in the passenger seat and remain off. Person sitting there weighed over 230 pounds. Seat belt warning lights remain illuminated despite seat belt being fastened.

On the way to work on monday morning, sept 1st, 2014 as my husband approached a stop light he noticed the vehicle at the light backup lights come on. He thought they may have pulled too far up under the stop light and were just going to back up a little bit so he applied his brakes. The driver of the other vehicle proceeded to push the gas and slam in to the front of my husband's truck then drive off. My husband proceeded to the nearby pilot fuel stop looked around to see if the other vehicle was there then called the police to file a report. After that he went on to work a few miles down the road. Worked his shift, stopped and put a little gas in his truck and drove the 9 miles home. Parked in the drive went in the house and came back out a few minutes later there was smoke then fire coming from around the front tire of the truck. On acceleration from a stop, the rpm's race while shifting. Vehicle acts as if the transmission is slipping from 1-2.early in the life of the vehicle i thought this was only something that happened the first time shifting after pulling out of the garage however, as the truck gets more miles on it, the problem happens more often and when taking off from stops when hot. Vehicle was brought to dealer to diagnose complaint and was told there was a bulletin to address this problem but since the tech couldn't verify it, they didn't do anything. Dealer said i have a good powertrain warranty so if something breaks later i should be covered.not only is this unprofessional and poor customer service, they literally did nothing to attempt to diagnose or confirm the problem.there seems to be numerous complaints on this site related to rpm racing complaints.

I have now had my chevy 2013 silverado in for oil consumption tests for the last 3 months and it has failed them. When i first brought it in i was told thatthey would replace the piston rings. When it finally failed they are now saying the are only replacing the head gasket and the rocker arms. Neither one of these have anything to do with my truck burning oil. This is the second vehicle i have owned that has has issues burning oil the first one they told me that it was normal for it to burn oil. They need to do what they originally told me and replace the piston rings. What happens if this engine goes while i am going down the highway

The contact owns a 2013 chevrolet silverado. While the vehicle was parked, there was an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. In addition, the check engine light and the traction warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the lifters needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.

I have a concern about the 5.3 liter engine in my 2013 chevy silverado. I am encountering piston slap for up to 5 minutes when starting vehicle. I have contacted gm multiple times, and i have had the piston slap noise documented at roy robinson chevrolet in marysville wa. I am attempting to get my defective engine replaced under warranty, but gm does not seem to care. I am concerned one of the pistons could fail, causing engine failure, putting myself or a family member in a fatal situation. I believe this issue is important to have documented. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you

The 2013 silverado truck i own has a loud popping noise in the exhaust system when the truck is turned off.i have been told that it is normal, but the service manager at the dealership said it didn't sound right to him.this is causing concern to me that the truck may be a fire hazard since the exhaust gets so hot that it pops loudly as it cools off.other trucks do not make this much noise if any.i am getting more afraid that the truck may catch on fire when i'm driving it.i have been working with the dealership and general motors since jan. 2014 to try and resolve this issue.as of today, oct. 13, there is still issues with the exhaust.

April, 2013 - truck was parked out side, and i left for a 70 mile trip early in the morning, after the dew had fallen.june, 2013 - a tropical storm swept through the area, dumping tons of rain; causing the humidity to rise a few hours later as well as causing everything to be moist/wet.both events were either in the early morning hours or in the evening after the sun went down, and involve wetness/moisture, humidity, and the inability to "dry" the windshield.problem:there is a "condensation film" that forms on the windshield due to the outside elements being more moist and humid than the inside of the windshield.usually, when turning on the defroster, this will "dry" the windshield and make the condensation film go away.however, the defroster on this model does not "dry" the windshield on the right side (passenger) of the vehicle.the air coming out of the defroster on the right side is not as strong as the left. There is a constantcondensation film that forms and remains.the wipers will clear the wetness/moisture away, temporarily, but the film remains and the moisture/wetness returns.this makes the visibility on the right side of the truck non-existent, and when turning a right hand corner, or entering an intersection, you can not see out of the right hand side of the windshield.this is a liability and accident waiting to happen.......confirmation/manufacturer knowledge:i took my vehicle into the dealer - twice - and was told this was "normal" for this model.i contacted the gm hotline, who escalated the claim to the engineering claims department and was told that this is a recurring problem, that they were aware of it, and told the dealer not to do any repairs at this time.i also talked to the dealers head mechanic who said that he has seen this numerous times in the past.is gm waiting for a death before fixing?pictures available...

Transmission down shifts multiple gears when i decelerate. The first occurrence happened at 70 mph causing a very hard deceleration and near loss of control of the truck. I have had three other like incidences at speeds between 45 and 70 mph. These happened on dry pavement and i was able to slow safely. Had this occurred on wet or snow covered roads, i have no doubt there would have been an accident. 2 . At times when i accelerate there is no throttle response for several seconds. When the engine does respond, the truck accelerates as if i have the throttle floored. Again this has happened on dry pavement. Slick conditions would have caused a spin out. 3. Vehicle surges between 20 and 45 mph. Engine rpm continually jumps 200-300 rpm causing constant surging. Besides being very annoying, it would be dangerous on icy roads.

The contact owns a 2013 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that she shifted into park, turned the vehicle off and was attempting to exit but the vehicle began to roll away. The contact then restarted the vehicle and secured the vehicle in park once again. The vehicle was later taken to the dealer where they advised that they were unable to diagnose the failure. Since i purchased this truck in june 2013, i've had several occasions where when the truck sits without being used for several days, when i back out of my driveway and put the transmission in drive, the transmissions slips. The truck won't move for a second, the engine rpm's race and then when the transmission catches, it will actually squeal the tires. Then at times it will continue to do this for the first several times i stop at a light or stop sign. This doesn't seem to happen once the truck has been driven for a distance, and it doesn't happen everytime the truck is used. I've talked to the service manager at the dealership and he says they've not had any issues with other trucks. I'm actually going to pick up the service manager and have him with me when i start my truck today after it has set for four days. I hope it does this with him in the vehicle so he can feel what's happening. I've been a loyal chevy owner for over 30 years but i'm really disappointed in this truck which costs $45,000.

The driver and passenger headrest square in the middle are hard as a rock. I feel in the event of an accident when the occupants head hits the headrest it will definitely cause harm to the back of the persons head. There is next to no cushioning in the center, the sides are soft but not the middle. I feel this is a big safety issue in the event of an accident.

The problem i have been having has been going on for almost a year. The steering wheel seems to have a "dead spot" in it when the steering wheel is turned 3/4 turn to 1 complete turn. You can feel the slack in the steering box when making a turn(left or right)the steering wheel will have up to 2 1/2 inches of "free play" when turning(there is no "free play" when driving straight)it has been doing this since the day i bought the pickup new off of the lot. I have had it looked at since then and been told by gm mechanics that it is the steering gear. If you tighten up the steering gear it will take the "free play" out, but the steering will be more sensitive when driving down the road. So tightening up the steering gear solves one problem but causes problems elsewhere??? according to the federal motor carrier safety administration(fmcsa) section 393.209 steering wheel systems. That(depending on the size of steering wheel) the steering wheel lash shall not exceed 14 degrees angular rotation for manual steering or 30 degrees angular rotation for power steering systems at any given position of the steering wheel. With rules and regulations like that on commercial vehicles, how is my personal vehicle considered "safe" with 2 1/2 inches of "free play" in the steering wheel???

We have many problems with our truck. I don't remember all the dates so i am starting with the most recent and will work back. On 7/17/14 i was driving down the highway when the steering wheel of my truck locked up on me and the truck would no longer accelerate. I could no longer steer. Had i not been trying to make a lane change when it happened, i would have been ran over by 2 semis who then had to scramble to avoid hitting me. One took the turn lane while the other almost ran a car off the road to get around me. Everything else on the truck was still working, lights, ac, radio, windows, everything, just not steering. One time i turned on my truck and could not switch through the gears so that i could drive and the dash had no information on it (no compass, temp reading, mileage). It would move through the gears but it wouldn't drive. I had to turn my truck on and off 3 times before i could drive. Our driver side window no longer auto rolls down, our bumper is falling apart and we have never been in an accident, the drivers door leaks when it rains, and our door locks will occasionally not disengage so when we go to shut the door it just bounces of the latch. This has caused one of our doors to come off the hinges and almost fall off our truck. We have had all 4 door locks replaced and they are still doing it.

I bought this used 2013 truck in late nov 2015. When making (usually) a right turn at low speed, especially from a stop like entering traffic from an inclined access driveway, occasionally (maybe 3 times per month) there is a sudden and total failure of power assist in steering, making the turn extremely difficult and unable to keep from drifting out of the intended lane of travel. Collisions were avoided several times by (thankfully) oncoming traffic veering out of the way. This sudden loss of steering control particularly at this unexpected time while accelerating to negotiate a traffic entry is extremely dangerous.this one-ton truck is not like a subcompact that is easy to turn 90 degrees without power steering, believe me. If my wife were driving, the truck would surely go completely across all lanes of oncoming traffic. After completing the turn, the power steering returns to normal, however the power assist steering on this 2013 truck has always been far less effective than my previous identical model, but 8 years older chevy diesel one-ton truck.

The contact owns a 2013 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the power steering assist failed without warning and the steering wheel became hard to turn. The failure recurred intermittently. The dealer test drove the vehicle but was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,289 and current mileage was 11,500.

Traveling at 55 mph steering locked up and was unable to steer the vehicle.15 minutes later did the same thing at 45 mph during busy traffic and again approximately 10 minutes later at 45 mph.

Traveling 70 mph on freeway, naturally veering left to right went to correct to the right and steering wheel locked up.i could turn to the left more but could not correct back to the right.had to slow down to about 35 mph nearly causing someone to rear-end me, then it finally broke loose.the entire ordeal lasted aprox. 12 seconds before it was corrected.

Dash has cracked above passenger side airbag. This has caused safety concerns such as the possibility of the air bag deploying or pieces of the dash coming out and injuring someone if it was to deploy in an accident. I purchased this vehicle used and have only had it about 5 months.

The contact owns a 2013 silverado. The contact stated that the rubber coating on the rear frame was becoming detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 11,940.

Since i purchased this truck in 12/2013, the rubber door gaskets develop a very strong chemical smellwhen truck sits in the sun, or when weather is warm, which is most of the time here in florida. It smells bad enough to cause nausea, which is a distraction when driving the vehicle. I would like to know if there is a remedy to this problem.

The contact stated that upon inspection, it was found that the frame was rusted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired. Exact repair information was unavailable. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 26,632.

It soon became engulfed in flames despite the efforts of the local fire department. The truck was a total loss.

I purchased a 2013 silverado, while taking possession of the truck i noticed the undercoating had fallen off of the frame rail above the right rear tire and had begun to rust. I immediately complained, but was told they would contact gm. I immediately filed a complaint with gm. The repair was to spray after market under coating from a spray can on the already rusty parts. I complained again and was told that was all they were going to do to remedy the problem. This vehicle if left on the road for the next 10 yrs will end in someone's death as the frame will be completely rusted through.

The contact owns a 2013 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that the tire became prematurely worn approximately every 17,000 miles. The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 9,500.

Recently purchased silverado 3500hd truck, i had no idea it did not have tire pressure monitoring system until i got home and was going through the vehicle driver information center. I thought all consumer vehicles has this safety feature. As it turns out everyone at the dealership was also surprised. Chevrolet has this listed as an option for a 3500hd, however they say it is not a supported configuration. I think the nhtsa needs to revise their tpms to all vehicles sold not just those below 10,000lbs. Tire pressure monitoring is a big safety issue for all vehicles, and can help avoid many mistakes. I appreciated it in my previous vehicle, i was alerted to a nail in leak and found a nail, i could have easily driven on the tire and had it fail while driving. Nearest i can tell, the components except for the sensors are in the truck as it is the same as the 2500hd, gm just refuses to make the required software changes to support adding tpms to my new truck.i've gotten every excuse under the sun until i got the its not a supported configuration, note i was not told it was not possible. (though someone did, stating the tires were the issue, but the tires on this vehicle are the same as on the 2500hd).

Cracked dash. My vehicle only has 30k miles and already has a crack

Stalls in reverse..2013 chevy silverado

Had vehicle approx. 2 weeks on 4-10-13 would not start for several attempts. It started i pulled out into oncoming traffic and it died i was able to restart immediately. Dealer had it one day said they could not duplicate issue so did nothing. Second time it happened was about 3 weeks after that this time i was going about 45mph and with no warning it just died in the road almost got hit by 2 people behind me. Took over 8 minutes to get restarted during which time several more people had to swerve to miss me. I drove about 1/2 mile to work parked, tried to restart it wouldn't start was towed to dealership. After couple days dealership said could not duplicate problem. I pressed the issue and made it clear this was extremely unsafe and someone was going to get seriously injured. After about one week they said the problem duplicated and the part i need is on back order (a module).this is where the truck is now. After 'googling' this issue the first time i found not starting is a common problem with the passlock system malfunction and the fix is one of two things one of which is the module being replaced now.i relayed this information to the dealership at the time of the first incident but nothing was done.i feel this is a serious safety issue especially considering it happens at speed with absolutely no warning.hopefully this will fix it but gm must be aware of this considering all the online forums pertaining to this precise issue and should be more eager to fix serious safety issues before someone gets hurt or killed even if it can't be duplicated while in the shop. (additional vehicle description--2500 hd diesel crew cab ltz)

Wax coating is coming off of frame rust showing.

The dash has cracked in 2 places next to the passenger airbag. Should it deploy there will be a piece as long as a big knife that will become a projectile.

2013 ltz silverado 47,000 milage dash cracked in the upper left corner of airbag area. Feel could be a safety hazard if in an accident and airbag is deployed causing the dash to throw shards of plastic in cab. It cracked one day just as i started truck while stationary.

Vehicle unexpectedly accelerated at a gradual increase form 25 to 40 mph on its own accord. Vehicle did decelerate once brakes were applied. Manufacture notified through the visit to the dealer ,and.

Driving at approx 35-40 mph approaching a hairpin turn tried to break and vehicle did not slow down slid through the corner into a rock, put the vehicle is reverse and pressed accelerator the vehicle rpm increased on own tried to break the rpm did not diminish(foot off accelerator) before i had time to shut the truck offihit a tree behind me. It appears something stuck in accelerator (mechanical) or the computer system( electronics)failed.the vehicle has not yet been tested.

The contact owns a 2013 chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated. The vehicle failed to decelerate when the brake pedal was depressed. As a result, the contact crashed into a mail box and two utility poles.a police report was filed of the incident and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for further investigation. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 10,100. The vin was unavailable.updated 10/08/14the consumer checked there was a fire, but did not elaborate any further. Updated 10/21/14

The contact owns a 2013 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving in first gear and taking the foot off the accelerator pedal to apply the brakes, the engine rpm's would not decrease and the throttle would not release for approximately 3-4 seconds. The failure caused abnormal forward movement from the vehicle. The contact also stated that while driving in first gear and shifting into neutral, the engine rpm's increased by approximately 200 ripens before decreasing. The vehicle was diagnosed at the dealer but the cause of the defect could not be determined. The contact stated that a representative from the manufacturer came to the home and drove the vehicle. The representative experienced the defect while driving the vehicle but did not identify the cause of the defect. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 20. Updated 03/11/14*ljthe consumer stated by the time his foot reached the brake pedal, the engine was holding a constant 1400 rpm, resulting in not only trying to slow the mass of the vehicle, but also attempting to brake against an engine locked at 1400 rpm.the consumer also stated that he removed his foot from the accelerator as a test and then popped the steering column gear shifter into neutral and the engine gained another 200 rpm for 3-4 seconds. Updated 03/13/14

The contact owns a 2013 chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle independently accelerated and the brake pedal had to be depressed firmly to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.

My wiper blade was damaged from ice and road spray during a storm.i tried to buy a replacement.found wiper uses an odd vehicle specific mount.wiper blade seems to be only available from chevy.not even a delco blade is available. There is no reason to use a new style mount, the basic arm and blade are the same as always.not having the ability to quickly replace a damaged blade during bad weather creates a real safety issue especially nights and weekends when chevy dealers are closed.

The passenger windshield wiper does not touch the windshield to the extreme right in the lower position. This causes a streaked windshield and ice build up in the winter. It makes it hard to so a car approaching from the right in rain and almost impossible to see in the winter weather conditions. I've taken it to the dealer. They replaced the blade but the new blade still doesn't wipe the full windshield. I've called gm and they siad there is nothing that they can do since it must be a design flaw in the wiper system. I am afraid to drive at night in a rain and in the winter when there is any ice or snow. There are two websites that are gm truck owners and there are several comments very close to the problems i am having with my windshield wipers.
